'Shout' has always been a classic opening track, and this album is very strong in general. Favourite tracks: 'Mother's Talk,' 'I Believe', and 'Listen.' Overall I love the instrumentation of this record.
I find it hard to review given his controversies but I will say you can definitely hear how a lot of contemporary hip-hop has been influenced by this album and his early work in general. Overall, this album isn't really the type of hip-hop I'd listen to, but nonetheless crucial to the scene.
Not really my thing but I can see why it's popular. I like a lot of their contemporaries but this just doesn't do it for me. As a debut album, it's definitely a strong piece. I just find this style of rock/alternative kind of grating.
Kind of like the Killers album on this list, not really for me. I will say that the second half of this album saves it, namely Assassin and City of Delusion. I love the cover though.
Absolute classic and a must-listen.
Some of the subject matter hasn't aged well at all, but you can't underestimate this album's impact on hip-hop. Absolute classic.
One of my personal favourites and a monumental record for the 80s. As a follow up to Thriller, MJ and Quincy Jones make magic once again. Each track has something special.
Not my style but I appreciate the musicianship nonetheless.
Very much a product of its time. Not really my thing.
I won’t lie, it's hype and better than I remembered. Really it's a 3.5/5 for me, but we can't give half stars. Fave track: New Romantics.
Love the jazz incorporated into this.
You can't go wrong. Timeless record.
Legendary and funky. You can't deny its significance on contemporary grooves.
Just brilliant.
Catchy and jazzy, love it.
pretty inoffensive really, not bad at all.
Baba O'Riley has got to be one of the greatest opening tracks.
Timeless classic.
Not for me.
Her voice is unforgettable.
I've never listened to a full PJ Harvey album but I'm pleasantly surprised.
Beautifully melancholy.
Never heard this album before but I absolutely loved it.
It's sad how many people can't see the greatness of this record. As 2000s kid, this was a pivotal album that introduced me to a whole world of 90s rock and beyond. RIP Chester.
Essential album. So happy to see it on this list!
Great beats, but his lyrics never really appealed to me.
Not my favourite by them but 'One' is undeniably a metal classic.
Album cover saves it.
