Reviews (page 8 of 8)

Interesting to hear cutting edge music from the '80s. Those poor drum machines...

Sounded like late 80s/early 90s generic synth. Although it was probably trailblazing in it’s day, this album didn’t really stand out for me. Meh.

Not great. Sounded like play school lyrics.

Lost their direction after Lowlife.

I honestly never gave New Order much of chance back in the 80s. I was more on the punk side and there was plenty to listen to. I find their overreliance on drum machines(?) to be a little dull. However some of the tunes like Guilty Partner and Run are a little closer to The Cure and are kind of interesting.

not for me, too electro-80s for my liking

This didn't move me. I've never appreciated overly-sequenced dance music.

Perfect transition from the 80s to the 90s

I remember this band from the 80s. I wasn't interested in them too much -- I think they had one or two songs I can remember -- and listening to this album now, well, it's still not my thing. Some decent sounds here and there, mostly when I can hear a non-digital instrument someone is playing, but just too dance-club sounding for me.

I always struggle to believe that the band that can produce stunning guitar+synth-driven powerhouses like 'Age of Consent' can revert to such dull, one-note tracks. While some of the melodic lines here are catchy, there's not nearly enough variation to hold interest for the 4-5 minute runtimes most tracks occupy.

Bruce is Bruce

This was fine. I won't listen to it again on purpose.

80s ridiculousness

Bit of a come-down from the last two albums.

I'm sure this is impressive but this is not the vibe today. Maybe I'll come back to it later this afternoon.

Just blah 80s type music but it's not bad nor good. Really as average as it comes, lifeless but hey at least they're trying. 5/10.

First Listen. This band has some great songs but I have never heard any of these songs before. I like their sound and look forward to getting to know this one better. Standouts: Round & Round, Run. 2/5

The parts I liked, I liked because they were rock-ish. But even those parts kinda bored me.

I knew there was a reason why I stopped listening to New Order after Movement...

Lots of energy here, pretty different from the New Order stuff I know. So well produced. Slick. Not keen on the drums. Unmoved. Unimpressed.

Not a big fan of electronic albums… Seems like they use more computers than they did musical instruments

It's very strange for me how "New Order"'s albums could be so different among them. They have some great albums and things like this one that does not deserve so much comment. By the ability to do so different things I'll give 2 stars, but this album is 1 star for sure.

Vanishing point is a bop. Otherwise it's kinda uninteresting, just washed over me without anything else really staying with me

Sounds like it’s pure 80s dance with the synth pop sounds. Not really my style as it’s slightly too poppy and too dance/electronic. I can see how people like it as the style and instrumentals are pretty decent. 5.3/10

Just crap

Not my jam, but again I can see how it influence tons of artist that I love. So much chorus on guitar lines. I like the doubled vocals.

Not bad, it all kind of blended together though, nothing stood out.

Not really into synth pop, but this was very boring.

Very specific sound. Was bored after 10 minutes.

It's fine, but it's hardly "OH MY GOD HAVE YOU HEARD THE NEW NEW ORDER RECORD", is it?

Emo techno. Not great.

Sounds like Flock of Seagulls, Duran Duran, Thompson Twins... anything in that era. Catchy electrice dance tunes.

An ok album. I’m not really a fan of New Order and this album hasn’t changed that. Find them a bit middle of the road.

Teknojumputtelua.

I found the synthesizers lifeless, the lyrics banal, and the vocal performances to be uninspiring. The songs felt super empty. Maybe this is just a bias I have against dance music, but I can’t imagine being in a place where I really want to listen to this music. “Round and Round” is really the worst offender on this album, I don’t know if I can make it all the way through without distracting myself from the music somehow. It just sounds awful, from the truly terrible lyrics, the strange off-kilter and off-beat way he's singing, the clashing synthesizers that aren’t mixed well, the odd echoes on the lead’s voice, the strange sounds just tossed into the composition. This is the bane of my existence as a musical listener. There are some highlights on the album (although, not that many). “All the Way” and “Dream Attack” are pretty good. But so much of the album really sounds like the soundtrack of an 80’s movie in the very worst way possible. 3/10.

Yeah, not for me.

Miscellaneous 80s techno. Listenable, but not crazy good.

Everything about 80's music I don't love, plus some weird sound effects (literally goats). A few decent techno/electronic parts but not enough.

Amazingly Underwhelming

Goat based techNo.

Complete mehs-ville. A generic 80's pop album with no real redeeming qualities.

I never got on the New Order train - I resented that they weren’t Joy Division, and they seemed to steer so hard towards shallow. Anyway I ought now shelve prejudices for a listen through. But quickly seems to me there are two types of tracks here: tacky clubbing tracks (jumble of robotic riffs and rhythms), and indie pop things (banal lyrics over weedy chord sequences, with various tinsel tweaks and bass burbles). This album certainly prompts memories of tacky clubbing, not something I was looking for. A struggle to get through. It's Bad, 1/10.

Oh, wow, an English synth-rock band! Cool! Thanks, 1001 Albums!!!

Mierda

In case anyone forgot, white folk still don't have rhythm.

This made me feel nothing

Unlistenable.

Not my cup o’ tea

I hated this even more than i thought I would. Just absolute garbage. Sorry for anyone that likes this, but also... I'm not sorry.

Not for me. 1/5

Hirveää kasarin syntikkameininkiä. Heti nousee niskavillat pystyyn

Disposable trash.

New Order just isn't my thing.

I hate this genre so much

I found this pretty boring—repetitive house music with lyrics brought to you by a children's rhyming dictionary. I lost count of how many times I'd think I must be close enough to the end of song that I could safely skip to the next, only to find I was less than 2 minutes into a 4+ minute track. Best: "Vanishing Point" Worst: "Fine Time"

Terrible, everything I hate about the 80s sound

Same same, next album!

My two young children play the demo music on their keyboard + theses awful noises on some 'kid DJ kit'. This sounded frighteningly similar to their 'concerts' that I am asked to attend. No thanks.

Late 80's techno-pop. I didnt recognize any of the songs. 1/5

It is half time in the 80's and New Order have racked up a lot of points. The aptly named Low Life being the final points scored before things started to slide. Love Vigilantes and The Perfect Kiss were their last great Hooky bass driven tunes. Listening to this took me back to that strange period in the late 80's when the Cure et al needed a reboot. This album was such a disappointment at the time, but i think it was still a hit. There is something off about the production; Hooky's hard driving bass kept them within a rock and roll framework. Here it is so muted and things are becoming borderline disco, methinks Bernard won out. Listening to the half decent Vanishing Point makes you think what it would have been if Hooky had hit it hard. Listen up deadbeats, it's not even a curio, go and listen to Low Life or Power Corruption instead.

Booooooo

Although i quite like this 80s style genre, I've heard many more better "exponents" of this elsewhere. A watered down version in my opinion.

Ok, that first song threw me off. It wasn’t New Order to me at all. It was sort of what Daft Punk would have done. Now we are at All the Way and this isn’t what i think of New Order either. It’s softer than what I’ve known and expected from them. All the Way could almost pass for a Pet Shop Boys song. And so on and so on. Nah, this is weak. It’s weak for the 80’s. It’s weak as a retro listen years down the line. It’s not memorable.

More New Wave music...this one is like the forerunner of EDM. Thirty seconds in and it feels like an assault on my ears. This is like the poor man's The Cure. The 80s were a dark time. This is like a greatest hits of terrible New Wave music, each song is just the ultimate in 80s music. Mr Disco is one of the worst songs I've ever heard...it's like someone heard video game music, a child's xylophone and techno and thought it was a good idea to combine them. The best that can be said about this album is that it is a forgettable exemplar of New Wave music.

Strong dislike

The beginning of what made 90s music sound like 70s disco, ugh no thanks

Sorry, I hated the 80s pop music scene, this is just another example of it

Blue Monday, True Faith, a few songs from the Get Ready album. The more New Order I listen to, the more I'm convinced that that is the entirety of works that justify New Order ever existing in the first place. This album, or any track from it, certainly doesn't justify the band's existence.

I can't listen to an album of techno pop.

1. time - 1.5 2. uuay - 1.5 3. love - 1.5 4. round - 1.5 5. guilty - 2 6. run - 1.5 7. dizco - 1.5 8. point - 1 9. dream - 0

I’ve always said I was a fan of New Order but after listening to this maybe I shouldn’t be lol. It sounded like an AI Generated 80’s synth album and it was incredibly boring unfortunately. I genuinely feel like Simon Cowell doing these reviews but we just haven’t had a good album yet. Final song was class though tbf.

Tedium set in by track 4, very samey throughout. Probably sounded great back in the eighties, but really dull now.

Really did not care for this album. The music didn't really impress me, the vocals didn't hold me, and the lyrics didn't seem to say anything all that interesting. As a result, I found it bland and lacking an impact; it was just kinda lame. I felt like the band themselves sounded bored a lot of the time. It did get slightly better as it went on, but the majority of the album suffered from these issues to me. I don't see myself coming back to this one. Overall: 1.25/5

Blue Monday and True Faith are amazing songs - unfortunately neither of these are on this album. What we have here is New Order on the cusp of their team up with the England football team and well on the slide into mediocrity.

malardio

Very dated stuff. Hasn't stood the test of time. Dull.

Electronica garbage throughout the entire album. Favorite Song: "Round And Round"

This is like one step removed from Right Said Fred. Next.

More British noise

More shit from the 1980s. It's value cannot be understated though. Without this, counter movements like Grunge, Punk, Nu Metal and Hardcore may not grow.

skimmed some songs not for me

Not sure why this particular New Order record is on the list. Nothing to hear here. I guess it’s the album they when into Acid House - which is unfortunate because it really blows. Gone is the Post-Punk brilliance and I’m not on ecstasy so 1 star.

What an incrediblly boring record. The first song on this record is so jammed full of music... It just comes off as noise. Nothing has room to breathe on that song. If punk rock has the worst vocals, new wave or synth-pop, or whatever you want to classify artists like this, is second. It's very tiring listening to records like this. I'm happy it was under 40 minutes. I didn't enjoy one minute of this record.

Tbh didn’t listen

I never really liked how artists in the 'old' days tried to combine dance music with rock. To me, it always feels kind of cheesy and cringy. To this day, only a few artists could really find a good and organic balance/synergy of rock with electronic influences. Linkin Park comes to mind. Also, the soft pop/rock songs on this record are very boring, plain and unengaging.

Rollo, rollo

not my genre

not for me. Saw them once, and they were good, but I'm not buying it.

Not for me.

I tried but I couldn't take it and did not finish the album.

Not a fan. Really wasn't a single song that stood out to me. 1/5

Never understood the appeal of this one for some listeners, even among hardcore New Order fans (seems to me previous LP "Brotherhood" aged far better, in retrospect). It seemed logical for the band to embrace the club sounds of the late eighties, sure. Unfortunately, the results are underwhelming to say the least. Two sorts of tracks occur in *Technique*. First there are cheesy discotheque tracks displaying far too many dumb dance rhythms, noodling and repeating themselves with no clear goal in mind. And then there are the more "post-punk" songs, yet they have little or none of the depth that could redeem the self-indulgence of the other so-called "experimental" electronic tracks. This "depth" I'm talking about is the sort of depth New Order had used to great effects for *Power, Corruption And Lies* and parts of *Low Life*, and which allowed them to create genuine moments of grace. And if remnants of this previous creative spark can be found in "Love Less", "Round & Round", and "Guily Partner", they are still conspicuously absent fron the rest, sadly. All that is left is a shallow displaying of sounds and melodies that had either been conveyed better in other New Order Lps, or that are clearly sounding quite ridiculous today, as "hip" and "modern" as those sounds seemed to be at the time. To put it in a nutshell, *Technique* reminds me of the soundtrack of a dumb TV cop show from the eighties, when the police come to a dive bar (the post-punk cuts) or a night club (the dance cuts) to interrogate a suspect. It's filled with clichés and stereotypical situations. And after the umpteenth rerun of the show, such a scene becomes tiring to say the least. 1/5 fo the purposes of this app, translating to a 6/10 grade for more general purposes (5+1). Next, please. Number of albums left to review: 397 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 271 Albums from the list might* include in mine later on: 144 Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 190 (including this one)

That was the most annoying 30 minutes I've spent in a long while. And yes, I bailed before the end.

joy division was bad enough they didnt have to make it disco

eh didnt like it

piece of shit.

I like some New Order, but this album was too electronic for my taste.

Not a fan

New Order were rubbish anyway and Technique is completely full of terrible 80s sounds without a single redeeming track, 1/5.

2.7 not my type of genre I think

NO. MORE. EIGHTIES. PLEASE. istg 80's music is meant for 2000's coming of age movies and that moment at a party when no one even cares anymore. nothing more. look. some of these aren't that bad, actually. i think it's cuz it's 1989 and we were getting somewhere. the synths are still annoying tho lmao. oh... i can't stress enough how much i hate round and round idk how to feel, i'm actually really torn on this opinion. on one hand, i might be biased because i usually dislike songs from the eighties. but also some of these are kind of good?? but then again they're not- and they miss.... personality. they give me the cure and the smiths vibes only... with no personality. just the depressing vocals and linear melodies. also the lyrics are preeeeetty bland. and never have i heard a guitar so boring as the one in this album. not even that funky to dance. ugh. EVERY SONG IS EXACTLY THE SAME HELP. skipped a bunch of songs at the 30 s mark,,, i just coudn't. wanna put two stars but there wasn't ONE song that is worth remembering. bye.

It's the emperor's new album. The sound of a a band indulgently reveling in past glories, with a halo effect of too many nights in Ibizan dance clubs giving it an accidental glow of summery dance-ability, polished off with some expensive production at Real World studios. There are only really two songs on this record (out of three singles), and they aren't that memorable. Ho hum.

Not for me.

80s new wave, not great, maybe one song for playlist. Love Less, the only song that sounds like actual instruments

I couldn't get through jt

Faz força pra ser ruim

i just don't click with new order at all - couple of ok songs. i think it's sumners vocals. who knows. A bit soulless.
