Reviews (page 6 of 8)

Genres: Alternative dance, acid house, dance-rock Formed: (Manchester?) England in 1980 Run time: 9 songs, 39 min, 55 sec After the death of their lead singer (Ian Curtis), the remaining members of Joy Division formed New Order. This is their fifth studio album. There are no particular stand out tracks on this album. They range from 1-5M plays on Spotify. I’m sure if you like dance music, and the Manchester sound this would be a great album to listen to. I’m not a particular fan of either. The songs are well written and played. Listen Again?: No My Rating: ***

Upphafslög plötunnar voru alveg off við fyrstu hlustun en seinni hlutin var skárri. Önnur hlustun var mun skárri. Heilt á litið óeftirminnilegt en ekki leiðinlegt. Má alveg vera í bakgrunni.

I do not know New Order at all, and had no preconceived notions coming in to this. My initial response, and it's likely a drastic over-simplification is that this is just a better version of The Smiths with no Morrissey to boot. The electronic dance vibes are a bit stronger for sure, and this album is a good time. Not for me, but it's an enjoyable enough album for sure.

I guess the natural evolution of Joy Division would have been something like this even with Ian Curtis on board. A cute synthpop album. No longer any goth energy to be found, and you're left with something even the hoes can dance to. I don't fully get why this is on the list instead of "Power Corruption and Lies" though. Strong 3/5.

Some really fun and hypnotic, trancy dance music. Has some surprisingly deep lyrics. Warrants a full relisten, but would great to put on to hype some people up or have on during afters

Good album mixed bag

I was surprised how much of a band like The Cure I can hear in this, especially since New Order are contemporaries. It's kind of like if you took that dour post-punk and mixed it in with some of the Madchester scene. It feels like it bridges a gap I didn't realize there was. Favorite tracks: "Mr. Disco", "Vanishing Point"

This feels like kids goofing around with synthesizers taken to its logical conclusion on the billboard charts.

I don't dislike this, but it doesn't feel like a consistent album. Though I'd imagine any band that recorded the majority of an album whilst partying in Ibiza, who then went straight to a rural hideaway to record the rest, would have similarly schizophrenic results.

Album art is the coolest part.

I liked 'all the way' quite a lot, it touched me a bit even though I don't really agree with its core concepts, sort of thing. Thought the album was alright!

I'm not sure what I think about this album. It's not bad but I've heard other songs from New Order that I think are better. Overall I think it's a 2,5/5.

Huh. This is different. This is what happens when you let New Order take a pill in Ibiza. Makes you wonder what Ian Curtis would have thought about them. For what it’s worth, this is a good dance record. Maybe not as floor-rattling as ***BIG*** Beat (though that genre wouldn’t be shaking the world until nearly 6 years later with the Chemical Brothers), but still bop-able. Not quite Acid House either. It sounds unique, and still sounds unique today considering all the electronic subgenres that have developed since it was released. My one problem is that the songs aren’t really different from one another to stand out, paradoxically with the record’s unique sound. I’d definitely come back and listen to this one again, but I doubt any songs from this album would find their way onto my playlists except for maybe “Love Less”, which even so sounds inferior to “Love Vigilantes” from “Low Life”.

funky!!!!

Pretty cool record with nice songs! Especially love the rhythm section in this band, cool bass lines and nice proposing drums. And the cover is very cool! 7 out of 10

Is this an indie album or a Prince album?? I will say, the house production is top-notch, even for 1989!

This had to be the prototype for jellyfish jam. Cool sound but I probably wouldn’t seek it out.

semi interessant

Very middle of the road.

For being a very 80s album I really liked this. Not quite 4 stars but I appreciated the variety of this album and the bass lines were fun.

Nothing too special.

Tuommosta ihan ok elektronista britti poppia

sounds kind of flat? I dont know much about drum machines and synths so I just assume its from the technology of the time and experimentation. Anyway the drums go hard on all the songs. Its an energetic vibe but also sounds sad. The bass also sounds great on the songs. Also, I feel like so many indie songs sort of sound like this album! they were definitely the blue print. Although it does sound a little dated, and maybe a little repetitive at points, i still enjoyed the album.

Catchy but definitely not 'must listen'

Electronic music. Blegh.

Not usually what I’d throw on to add some lift to my day, but this did the job anyway.

Solid 80’s electronic. Nothing too up my alley, but was a good listen.

Lots of nu wave vibes with mediocre midi tracks.

litt rar new order, men blir bedre lenger ut i albumet 3.7

Ah, Technique - the musical equivalent of a time capsule from the late 80s/early 90s. This album is like a melting pot of genres, with songs that blend alternative rock, new wave, and electronic dance in a way that's both exhilarating and sometimes a little jarring. It's like the band went to a musical buffet and decided to try a bit of everything. While the genre-hopping can be a bit confusing at times, the best songs on the album manage to amalgamate the various styles in a way that feels cohesive and satisfying. "Fine Time" is a prime example of this, with its catchy synth hooks and guitar riffs that are just begging to be danced to. The one constant throughout Technique is, of course, the unmistakable voice of Bernard Sumner. Whether he's crooning over a slow, moody track like "Love Less" or belting out the upbeat, funky "Run", Sumner's vocals are the glue that holds the album together. Themes-wise, the album seems to be about finding joy and freedom in the face of adversity - a message that feels especially relevant in today's world. "Round & Round" urges listeners to keep moving forward despite setbacks, while "Vanishing Point" encourages us to embrace change and the unknown. Overall, Technique is an album that requires a few listens to fully appreciate. But once you get past the initial shock of the genre-hopping, you'll find that it's a fun and eclectic ride that captures a specific moment in music history. So put on your dancing shoes and let New Order take you on a journey through the 80s and beyond!

3 stars

Kept hoping Bizarre Love Triangle was the next song, still hoping … aw nuggets.

Happy little techo bump. Great Thursday morning drive time

Interesting sound. Never heard a lot of this of music. Good guitar and synths.

2-3 songs I loved

Very neutral to me

One of my favorites from my teen years. Not as impressed with it now.

An absolute scandal that this is on here but their 5 star album 'Power, Corruption and Lies' isn't

Album cover is very vaporwave… Instrumentals are great, every song sounds distinct because of them. The vocals, however, are shite. Got the vocal range of a squid.

Meh, dancy, disco-ey, and ok. Fave track would be Mr. Disco.

alan_partridge_shrug.gif This was fine, I suppose, but didn't excite me. Definitely preferred "Low-Life". Fave track - "Run", maybe? None of them really stood out that much....

Neat and likable, but ultimately forgettable

The first track is extremely misleading for the rest of the album. Other than that, this felt very appropriate for the 80s. Not bad but not too memorable either. Fave track(s): All the Way, Dream Attack

Some fun funky beats on a few tracks, but the vocals brought it down. Can't decide if I like it enough for more stars

Soulless pet shop boys.

Typische vunzige depri 80s sound.

"Substance," "Brotherhood," & "Power, Corruption & Lies" all should have made the list before "Technique." 3: Good, not great.

Liked this, pretty good!

I listened to this twice on Friday but have completely forgotten it

Fine, but not NO's best work.

3/5. A fun pop album but nothing standing out as amazing. May have to listen again for better rating.

Theres a couple songs on here that are pretty good bops, but I wouldn't say I would go back to this.

I've never heard of New Order before today. They are a synth pop/electronic band that formed out of the remnants of Joy Division after Ian Curtis killed himself. After learning this, I didn't have much hope for this band, as Joy Division is a shitty goth rock/mood rock band with unenthusiastic music delivery. This, however, was very different. Joy Division's keyboardist/guitarist Bernard Sumner took over as lyricist, and his voice is 100 times better than Ian's ever was. I find that New Order sounds a lot like Duran Duran or Depeche Mode with their strong 80's synth/electronic sound, and heavy reliance on drum machines. Some of their lyrics are super weird too, like from the song "Fine Time": You know, I've met a lot of cool chicks; But I've never met a girl with all her own teeth... Where was he soliciting women, a meth house? Overall, not a bad listen, and a definate improvement from the Joy Division days. This was actually listenable. Favourite songs: Round and Round, Mr. Disco, Fine Time, Vanishing Point, All the Way Least favourite song: Guilty Partner 3/5

Can hear Joy Division in a lot of this. Kinda mixed with pet shop boys. The riff on the second track sounds exactly like a cure song Not generally a big fan of electronic synthesiser sounds and I much preferred the less synthy tracks Think without the electronica I may have liked it more..... However all that being said, I listened again and found it was growing on me... Might go back to this

Favourite song: Vanishing Point

Quite nice. There's some nice melodies in there. Nice.

Helt okej platta dock.

Cool techno sounds.

I never liked this New Order record compared to nearly all that came before. For me this was album that firmly signaled the end. All the pathos that made their brand of pop more interesting was finally fully drained. Being a New Order record that’s still 3 out of 5 stars.

Mid-tempo consistent, clean and punchy beats with soft vocals similar to Depeche Shop Bois.

For an 80s pop album, it wasn't terrible

I prefer dearly joy division like new order and you can hear a little bit on this , but more then that is a diverse synth pop/ EDM sound

Decent album, but nothing really on here that hits like Bizarre Love Triangle.

Never listened to New Order, but they sounded how I thought they would. Not really my kind of music, but it held my attention and kept me listening. The synths and fake drums were okay and it blended well with the music, so I might explore more from New Order in the future.

At first it reminded me a lot of sega genesis music (compliment), but then the vocals started kicking in and the effect was ruined

I kept thinking this was The Cure and waiting for a song I knew. Then the album finished and Spotify played one and I thought it was the same artist still. 3.5

Good easy listening. Nice while I work. Not my new favorite, but definitely enjoyed it. Definitely some hints of that 80's "we have new tricks and technology to add to our music", but it's not too much so it just feels nostalgic without being obnoxious.

Pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable this New Order album is... even though it's only a few years after the hits everybody knows for some reason I was expecting it to be a letdown? 3.5 stars, somewhat likely to revisit.

Never heard this before, but didn't hate it. Really felt the Cure in this one and for that, I'm rating it higher.

Not their best effort, but I love New Order. I'm a 3.5 on it...

3.5-3.75 but didn’t wanna round up. good fresh album.

Rätt cool synth-pop

I didn't know that New Order has been making albums pretty much nonstop for the last 40 years. This one apparently is in the middle of that period, so it's kinda interesting to see how their style has evolved. Overall, it was fine. Pretty solid 3. Standouts: Love Less, Round & Round, Run

it's okay, nothing remarkable for me

Emmitt loved it

Finally some 80's synth that's actually fun! Not something I see myself coming back to often, but it was nice.

Yet another three star album that is decent but nothing special. Never been a big fan of this style of new wave. I don't mind it, but I don't love it either. 3 stars.

It's Alright, few repetitive songs but good for the most part

Fine and techno-y not my thing. Prefer Joy Division

Idk it seems well put together but Acid/Dance Rock isn’t my thing and it was all pretty forgettable

Seems ok. Don't know any of the song. Typical 80s sound. 3/5

This genre isn't really my bag, but this was a solid album. Normally, I'd expect to like a song or two on something like this, but there was a consistent quality from start to finish on this. It's still not really my thing, but I'll give them credit for at least keeping my interest the whole way through. Well done.

I liked a lot of individual aspects of this album, but didn't love it one the whole. Songs felt repetitive and sleepy. It is also kinda erratic, with some songs being heavy, synth loaded bops and others more like singer song-writer post-punk alt.

Parani lopussa. 3.5/5.

Varsin geneeristä kasari-elektrorokkia, mutta ei huonolla tavalla. 3/5.

5-7/10

A fascinating album. Not really to my taste, but I enjoyed listening to it.

Better than expected, but not the best of new order

This album was decent. Nothing memorable for me here, but not bad. 3/5

a lot of the same cheesy 80s cliches not as good as the other album

Is that a fucking sheep?! 2 I like it 3

One of New Order's weaker albums that came after their peak and precipitated their new image of post-90s synth-dance. This is coming from a New Order fan as well. 3/5.

If I didn't know otherwise I would have bet a lot of money on the opening track being by the Happy Mondays. The rest of the album is a mix of classic New Order bass groove driven dance rock and tracks with a stronger house influence. I like the former but not so much the latter. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: All the Way Date listened: 12/08/22

Pretty good listen. Definitely not a necessary one. Pretty generic in the end.

It’s not a bad album, just nothing stood out to me.

Fine enough I suppose

This is too Ibiza for my taste.

This is a surprise, I am not a fan of dance music, kinda over 80s music and I don't like electronic music. Why then did I find myself really enjoying this album? The melodies are quite catchy. I feel like they have a bit more depth than your usual 80s dance synth music. Also the lead singer's voice, while characteristically 80s sounding was so soothing and pleasant. I really feel like I could get into some of those melodies.

It is an interesting mix of early electronica and new wave melodies. Not bad

I find them boring. There. I said it

Pretty good time. Mellow. Chill.

it's clear that this album was very ahead of its time, in terms of the production - but I've heard other stuff from New Order that I've personally preferred over this

Música dance ochentera. A veces recuerda a Depeche Mode. Ni fu ni fa.

I want to listen to this again.

Great first half but gets weird in the second

From Synth to Indie and back. Indie parts could be catchier and the vocals are slightly underwhelming. All in all, a solid record that pulled some surprising stunts

Decent mix of techno and alt rock, with about half the songs being great. Would say Vanishing Point and Round & Round are the best songs on here but also like All The Way and Guilty Partner as nice album cuts and Fine Time is a good opener. Rest of the album sounded a bit generic for New Order.

“All the way” and “Dream attack” fav tracks

In 1983 New Order were my favourite band and Blue Monday was played on constant repeat. They promptly hit the high-life and things went downhill. It's a problem with a lot of bands I think. It's not to say this isn't good, but that it has been done by them before and lacks integrity. This is dance pop. Very good dance pop with a New Order slant. Synths, weird/lame lyrics and programmed drums and guitar chords strumming this has all the hallmarks of New Order I like but in an Ibiza nightclub.

Bueno, al estilo de new order

J'ai cherché ladite technique pendant tout l'album. Ràs.

I... actually didn't hate this. Tracks 2-5 were kind of decent. I wouldn't listen to it again, but I didn't find it objectionable. The definition of a 3-star album.

Well I’ve herd of them and I know joy division’s music fairly well. Cover art is cool… The album opens with fine time which has this incredible instrumental buildup throughout the start eventually forming into this pretty cool dance rock tune with a good few little effects that work amazingly on headphones ; The song seems to not follow any given formulas which works in it’s favour but is hard to catch on to for a first listen. The bass line in all the way is just power you know. The rest of the song is just an amazing little pop rock tune. Love less keeps the same pros of the last song while still sounding completely different, this one in particular is glossier and poppier sounding instrumentally which is cool but the singing isn’t the best on this one. Next is the nightclub ready round and round it isn’t my favourite song but still a great song to blast in a club due to it’s rhythm and futuristic sound. This band really know how to do a bass line but the songs lack a real, special, unique factor to them, guilty partner is no exception. Run is a step up from the last two a really well performed song with (pretty much) great everything I just don’t like where the guitars are in the mix. Mr disco has one of my favourite grooves on the entire album very disco ready the lyrics are some of the better ones but feel like just a catalyst to push the song forward. The electronic drumming at the start of vanishing point has an odd “ bouncing ball” kinda sounds it then disappears to form my favourite song on the album especially in the mixing department! This album ends on dream attack it’s a really lush sounding one with a brilliant build up not my favourite song on the album but a brilliant closer even if it could’ve honestly went anywhere in the album. The bookends of this album were fun, unique and an exciting experience but the middle of the album just couldn’t click; the thing is, I get that this band were obviously influential on future dance and rock artists to come but I don’t think influence can carry an album enough to get a 5 or even a 4.

I am old, so I always prefer earlier New Order albums.

Not bad but nothing that great either

Not as good as some of their other ones, but quite boppy.

As a kid, I always loved New Order's design and I had no idea what they sounded like. My older sibling just wasn't into it, I guess. I'm very glad it sounds like this, though. Nothing that fully grabbed me, but I welcomed the background.

First song is techno like. The rest is more new wave. A few good songs.

the indie sleaze girls would have loved this

Painfully 80s, but good to bop around to.

its ok. i would call it one of the best 1001.

Suck vad man ändå gillar new wave!!

Okay, a few standout tracks but the rest were a bit flat

Cool 80s party , a worthwhile listen

A decent mix of synths and songs but generally “good” or “fine” and never “great”. The whole album I was waiting for something to kick into True Faith or even Inbetween Days but it never quite delivered. I did get some sunny, last day of school vibs but not enough to elevate above 3 stars.

Coming right after Duran Duran's Rio, I initially wasn't excited to listen to another 80s electronic pop. However, the first track "Fine Time" came in hard, and it wasn't what I expected. Mainly unfamiliar with the band, didn't know the sound I was on the look out for, and the prog dance track was something I didn't even know I wanted. But once it fully got me ready for a full album of prog dance music, it suddenly starts into soft 80s pop. What happened? Shouldn't at least instrumental experimental tracks come at the end, if that's the only one?

som agradável, sintetizador epa

Nothing super special, but I enjoyed it. Favorite songs were All the Way, Run, and Love Less. 3.5

I can see the influence, though it gets lost in a sea of the many new wave and post punk artists on this 1001 list. To me, it’s a bit bland and lacks something in the song writing to really engage me.

Suprisingly decent electronic album because, except for the first song, all the songs have vocals and its not as experimental as some of the 90s electronic. In essence, this reminds very much of the early 80s synth pop, so actually fairly decent, easy listening

Not my jam, music largely devoid of emotion, with lyrics that sound rushed and uninspired. Not the worst Mancunian band of the 80s (that is the smiths) but disappointing and unimpressive.

Back to their former glory on this album. Electro pop anthems with their famous pulsing kick drum .

Simplemente pop

Not my thing, not that interesting, but fine

3.9 - Compared to other UK dance-rock acts of the era (e.g. Depeche Mode), it seems that New Order didn't get as much exposure across the pond. It's a shame because this is a powerful pop sound melding so many great sounds. I love the bass sound, hollow and plodding. Also great are the interplay of acoustic and electric guitar, along with electronic rhythm elements. Bernard Sumner's vocals sound slack and cool, with an almost conversational cadence and tone. It works best ("Love Less", "Round & Round") when they're able to corral all of these elements into a focused and layered sound. But a couple of tracks ("Mr Disco", "Vanishing Point") struggle under the weight of all these elements. From what I can gather, "Technique" marks the tail-end of a string of great New Order records. I definitely look forward to exploring their catalog further.

Interesting 80’s synth.

it wasn’t boring but it also kinda was..? i feel like i’ve heard a lot of music lately that’s just completely meh and this is one of those. nothing to really comment about it

New Order's "Low Life" surprised me a few months back in terms of how much I liked it - really made me re-evaluate my preconceived notions; great record. So today when I saw this come up I wondered if it'd be the same... Who can tell with this band? The opening track "Fine Time" was probably exactly what I'd thought they'd sound like overall - it seems a very dull/unimaginative synth dance tune and not much of a song. So my initial instinct was that that wasn't starting out so well... but then "All The Way" and "Love Less" are great tunes - lovely melodies, good pop construction. ...which are followed by "Round & Round" which is back to the sequencers and electronic formula that seem so meta-New Order....but I like this one? Are they just indoctrinating me? What's happening here? This is a weird album obviously - did New Order just not know what kind of a band they wanted to be? And if so is there anything wrong with that at all? (Of some note: so many of their non-sequencer songs sound very much like The Cure) Not really sure how to rank this one; I still think I like Still Life better but this is growing on me. 6/10 3 stars

Once again, propa synth chunes. This album seems to change every time I listen to it, this time there were more outdated synth sounds than I remember

Would listen it again

Funky fresh 😎. Loved it!

Funky music, makes me wanna do the shroomsss 3/5

I kinda like New Order but this album isn't the NO stuff that interests me. After the album ended Spotifiy segued to their song Shellshock which is more my New Order sweet spot.

It's interesting that they would consider this up there among NO's best. Yes, they are transitioning to more electronic dance music sound, but if you were to compare this to what was happening on that scene in 1989, it would be pretty average.

It is an 80s album. I was not familiar with the album or any of its songs. I do not believe I was familiar with the group either.

3.1 - A bit like Depeche Mode. Decent listening, but nothing stood out.

i like the album art, i thought i was in for some vaporwave. opening tune music is not as doomer as i knew new order to be. it is fun but it kinda sounds like someone whos figuring out their casio keyboard for the first time. I liked the 'vanishing point' track but i wouldnt listen to the other songs recreationally. u can really tell these guys are from the uk btw.

New order The beats are super memorable love em All the way feels more like my style The beats and thr Tempo variations are sooo fun. Will probably revisit this Album kinda fizzles out (doesn't feel like it has that amazing energy (also more weird beats) anymore) Vanishing point has good vibes tho Dream attack is sooo up my alley. Tempo is perfect, kinda cool lyrics, nice instruments

I like New Order and have heard several songs and at least two other albums from the band. The only track that sounded familiar was "Round & Round", but the whole album sounded like New Order so I'm not sure if I've heard anything from Technique or not. "Love Less", with a calm yet hook-filled melody, got my highest rating for an individual track. The beginning of "All the Way" sounded like it had elements lifted directly from "Just Like Heaven" from the Cure. "Run" reminded me of Lemon Jelly. Overall, the album was good. I'm not sure if I will make it back to a full re-listen of the entire album.

"Spin magazine's 1995 Alternative Record Guide cited Technique as New Order's best album because it represented the perfect synthesis of the band's abilities as a punk-influenced rock band and as synthpop pioneers." 3.25/5

Which New Order album should I hear next?

It's like new wave but dancier. Can't say it's my favourite thing ever but it's a short album and there was nothing downright bad about it. 3/5.

A lot better than I had expected. A welcome surprise.

The first track had me intrigued - this album came out in the same year as Pretty Hate Machine, which I love. However, the album sank back into 80's synth instead of getting harder.

This album was on my list for a long time, and I'm happy to finally check it off. The music is a bit too subtle for first impressions to be accurate, but it stands up well against similar, later currents.

A step down from their first four albums but still pretty decent pop. 6/10

Hit me as a blend of pop and dance/electronica that just didn’t do a whole lot for me.

Started out exciting. Quickly became repetitive.

I love the in your face synths. Reminds me of The Cure a bit I like New Order but this is definitely not my favorite of theirs, feels kinda uneven

Nice drum machines. Pretty cool, but not as good as I'm used to hearing from New Order, I think this is their later stuff?

80's disco, but some of the songs have bizarre and misogynistic lyrics. Pretty standard 80's beats and melodies.

I was looking forward to this one as I had given our previous New Order album (Low-Life) 5 stars, favorably noting comparisons to The Cure and The Smiths. This album is much more like a darkish dance-pop album however. It's not bad by any means and quite pleasant in the background. But it's a far cry from Low-Life.

Maybe -an extra half for some of Hooky’s bass

Quite samey throughout, alright though 3*

Música dance ochentera. A veces recuerda a Depeche Mode.

Was ok, didn't stand out

Was a fairly solid album overall. There were a few standout songs like All The Way and Vanishing Point, but most of it sounded pretty much the same. 3/5 stars.

New Order, but without the classics

Techno music is not my preference anyway this album is not bad

An album that just kind of ticks along without ever really exciting the listener or delivering anything memorable

Before they became the New Order I love.

Some great moments and the sound of a band embracing club culture and doing it well - hasn’t necessarily dated great but still enjoyable although far from their best work

Enjoyed!

It was the most distinctly 80s thing I have heard

very nice! Some slower pop but made sense for late 80's. Nothing to write home about or have any reason to be on this list but enjoyable none the less.

Pop electrónico. Sosegado. Bien ambientado

Decent album…kinda what I expected

New wave and industrial is pretty good mashes together on this album. All the musicianship is excellent and the songs are all well written and catchy, but not exactly memorable.

Better than I expected, but I consider it more of a fun listen than a great album. Whenever I heard the cheesy deep voice near the end of "Fine Time," I couldn't help thinking of Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords.

Super 80s but with hints of Joy Division for sure

Fun album, glad I listened but probably won’t listen to again.

First song...meh. the three that follow are quite strong. Always good to hear Peter Hook's familiar sound. I'm trying to get over the fact that they are NOT Joy Division. Their style not one I listen to a lot. Still as I near the end I find myself really enjoying this album. Tempted to give it a 4, but a string 3 🌟 is what I'm giving.

Rätt bra ändå. Bästa låtar: All the Way Round and Round Dream Attack

At first I found it repetitive and boring, but some parts were a bit interesting. Not usually into the 80's synth sound, but that was the most interesting part of this album for me.

Not their best but still new order...

Nice disco vibes

Not my favourite New Order album by any means, but Round and Round and Fine Time are excellent tracks.

Wow! What can I say, New Order is and was a huge inspiration for many Techno/EDM artists and lovers. Good album! Personally I'm more into the Techno sounding songs over the ballads; but to each their own.

Not their finest in my opinion, but still a great album

pretty hip 80's sound, decent.

- A few good songs mixed with a whole bunch of bad songs. - Vocals are fine, production is not my thing at all... - Guilty Partner is pretty awesome damn. - Second half production is very good like it a lot - The whole second half in general is good

Run, All the Way and Love Less are great songs and might tip it to a 4star. If I could give it 3.5 I would but I've got to be harsh, 4 stars are for great albums and I did enjoy this but I know I'll put ones I love on 4.so it's 3.

very 80s pop, beginning sounds more indie. synths and nice drums. good length. ROUND & ROUND

5/10 Decent album, consistent all throughout. Nothing that stands out however. Favs: Dream Attack

Average, probably the worst of New Orders 80's records.

Как и за New Order.

Nota :5/10

not too bad.

Ok but not amazing

I surprised myself by liking this. Not my usual cup of tea, but this seems like a good gateway to acid house. Doubt I'll go much further down the rabbit hole, but Im glad that I listened to this album.

Fine, wouldn't seek it out.

Pilled up New Order. They finally started to smile. Best Tracks: All the Way, Round & Round, Run

Valtakunta mahdollisuudesta antaa puolikkaita arvosanoja. Liian helposti tyytyy heittämään kolkkia musiikille, mikä on sellaista perushyvää mutta ei saa aikaan suuria tunteita. En muista aiemmin kuunneelleni New Orderia.

I don't really get New Order, sorry... I understand Joy Division was a pioneering band, but it feels to me like New Order then kept doing the same thing for 3 decades. It's just 80's synth pop with some cool beats = fine, but I'm not into it.

I like bits and pieces of New Order and I rate them for being pioneering in terms of the electronic elements, but I didn't find this album particularly interesting or memorable. It was a nice listen, but ultimately I found the songs a bit too meandering and the music a little bland. 7/10

Decent

Was will das sein?

I only know and like one New Order album (blue Monday), this one I enjoyed listening to, and I liked it, but it is not as good as blue Monday.

No standout great song but overall good

La mejor para mi gusto "All the way".

good but not my gig, don't like those synth arragements

Some really fun acid house tracks mixed in with 80s new wave pop songs (almost sound like the cure). generally a little flat, missing their usual intensity.

reminds me of my dad. Very 80s, similar to Depeche Mode.

Like an electro version of The Cure. Probably the most I could like an electro dance leaning album like this.

No saves but not bad, probably won’t revisit 2.8

very enjoyable 80s album

Kind of neat, a different new agey/technoish type vibe, but got old after a bit

This is the 80s stuff that is familiar

Not a huge impression of this one. Was fun. If it were 1986 again this would be in my rotation.

Sounds like a precursor to trance

Average. Standard late 80’s/ early 90s New Order

I wouldn't say that this was from 90's.

Not a huge fan of this but want to dive into the Joy Division/New Order universe further as I know they've got a bit of a cult going on. Also love 24 Hour Party People which got pretty deep into the Manchester scene at the time, especially The Hacienda's influence on club life and partying. This one's not for me but am keen to here earlier stuff.

Enjoyed it

hits remain hits, good to hear the rest

Really enjoyed the different sounds this one came out with. Techno, synthy, some typical 80s alt rock. Good album

Really enjoy New Order. It's crazy that this band is Joy Division, aside from the deceased Ian Curtis, and the the sound is so unique and driving.

I liked it. It gave me some The Strokes vibes and of the surrounding genre (which I don't know the name of). I'd listen to it again, and I probably would.

Not my usual thang but p solid

Some good songs in there

Eh. 6.5/10 FT: Guilty Partner

It is fine, but I didn't enjoy it as much as some other new wave stuff I have heard.

Weirddddd

Started out really rough and didn’t get that much more enjoyable for me.

I liked some spots on this recording but not enough to listen again

Dream Attack, the last track, was my favorite I think.

I would have preferred that when Ian Curtis passed the band would have continued as Joy Division with Bernard Sumner handling lead vocals & had released two more albums (Movement, I would have named New Order) and Power, Corruption and Lies (I would have kept the title) and an EP called Low Life (4 tracks) then they would have broken up. Outside of a handful of tracks what New Order (formerly Joy Division) released between 1986 to 2015 (with the exception of the Peel Sessions 1982 which was released in 1986) has been largely forgettable working horse dance music and have not released anything I would ever rate above 3 stars or listen to more than a couple times and certainly never would have added any of it to my home library. Technique isn't a bad album but it's also not a good album. It's a bit of a chore to listen to it but it does have its moments but mostly sounds like dumb disco music played at clubs where horny 20-something males gather to buy expensive cocktails for the horny 20-something sitting pretty females in hopes of getting laid or at least a 'well he did spend $100 on drinks...' lazy two fingers sideways hand job. I hope to never hear Technique again (or anything released after it) but if I do it better be at a club where the boys are trained to buy the horny and/or entitled GenZ girls expensive cocktails with visions of sugar bums dropping knickers in their heads.

Not my cut of tea. Early EDM, just doesn't do it for me

A bit bland, vocal sounded off key and there should be a law banning the abomination that is the drum machine. Other than that it was just about ok.

Forgot to write something when listening, and I've forgotten the music now. Sort of says it all.

New Order has 4 (FOUR) albums on the Top 1001 yet their sound hasn't changed at all. The AI write up says "Their first UK number-one album, famously recorded in Ibiza, introducing Balearic beat and acid house influences" - that's resoundingly vague without much umph. Honestly, if you've heard one New Order album it's not much different than the one before or after it. They didn't break new ground on this album and there's certainly no justification for having 4 albums in the Top 1001. That puts them on par with REM, The Clash & The Who, that's complete horseshit. There's not a single US hit song on this album, none of these tracks makes an 80's playlist here. This is again a complete Euro pick. Influential band yes, good band yes, but is this album something someone has to hear before they die, not even close. Joy Division sucked, there I said it, someone had to. There's some illusion about them that people think they're great but they had one good track and no one knows them in the States. Boring album, no hits, no change in sound other than it lacked real hooks. They mailed it in on this one. 2 stars. "Tolerable" is my review

Mostly harmless

just couldn't get into it

Bit dull, not as vibrant or scintillating as I used to remember.

Ross from friends is eating this up

mmmmmm no se, 2.5 que bajo a 2

I feel like I should like New Order, and I've tried a few times, but it just doesn't click for me. I don't think it's bad, I just don't personally like it very much.

New Order is just in this awkward transitional phase where this kind of music will eventually become something I love, and that gap between what is and what isn't there yet probably makes me harsher on it than it deserves

it was eh 2

A bit disappointing. Uncommitted and lackluster

Bonne techno mais faut aimer la techno... Ce qui est pas spécialement mon cas

Seems to be either trash or average songs not sure why it is on here personally

I think I just don't like most music from the 80s. Preferred the less synth heavy tracks that just sound like The Smiths but overall this was pretty unmemorable for me.

Not my favourite. Far too 80's new wave. Next...

It was more interesting than Low-Life and the club elements were of interest but it did nothing to change my view of New Order being a good singles band who never really made a coherent album.

Found this to be a pretty weak showing from New Order. The drum machines sound relatively stock and don’t have the punch as they might on other songs. Sumner’s voice has never been the best but it was particularly ropey on a few of these songs. Just nothing that really punched through here and although some songs were better than others (‘run’, ‘vanishing point’), there are much better New Order albums to choose from.

Not too intrigued by this album. It was very average nothing really stood out.

609/1001 (2026.05.07) 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑

I found it hard to engage in this album. It mostly didn't interest me. Some of the dancier tracks had some cool synth parts but maybe not enough to make me want to come back. That said, if I was high as a kite in the Haçienda 1989 and they played the final half of Dream Attack I would probably go friggin nuts. Excellent end to a mid album

No es de mi gusto. No lo disfruté mucho.

I had higher hopes. Somewhat interesting at times but not enough to keep me engaged for the whole time.

Some catchy beats, but not my style overall.

I just find it very annoying. Not that it's bad, but definitely not for me.

Flip-flopping track to track between 80s house music and alternative folk rock, this album has no idea what it wants to be. There’s no coherent theme or musical style, it’s almost like they recorded whatever they were feeling that day, and then chose something else completely different the next. Not a lot to like here, but a couple of the house tracks at least had some interesting elements. Plus no vocals that sounded like an injured cat. 2/5, I guess.

Feels like two EPs thrown together, neither which I want to explore more of.

I'm not a massive New Order fan but this seems like a weak album, to me.

Another day, another meh

Anyone notice the couching at the start of love less. Music somewhat tinny

Yes! Another 80s British band that wrote their entire album on a Casio keyboard. I had no idea that so many of them existed. The author of this list certainly has a type. The psy-op is going beautifully. MI6 you win again.

Well, it's good for what it is and they are good as a musicians and songwriters, but it was a depressing listen for me, fueled by all the sounds and ideas I don't like about 80s

I was on board with that beginning riff and the album cover but what started out as hopeful acid rock quickly dissolved into a late 80s keyboard party. This could have been so much better.

Heavy pop-funk energy with simplistic lyrics and catchy main melodies - the guitar line really carrying these songs. The drums and beats definitely paved the way to house music as I can hear the similarities within the genre. Not 100% my thing but a few songs caught my attention - 'All the Way' and 'Love Less'.

I really like Power, Corruption & Lies. With that being said, I was highly confused when Fine Time hit me. It feels like so much going on spliced together only for 20 seconds to be memorable. Of course I'm going to really like the more indie sounding songs here. Though I feel that some of them run too long or delve into the Ibiza thing too oddly. I'm not going to act like these songs weren't catchy at times. Its problem was sustaining that momentum for most of the runtime leaving me bewildered and back to the classics (5/10, 3/5 on this scale) (Update: 2/5)

not so much

i think my personal version of a band that i should love that just doesn’t do it for me is New Order. this wasn’t bad i just was not interested or enthralled by anything. i think an uncool dad would think this was the height of cool

New Order are one of music’s most sincere, and although that comes through at times, the electro pivot holds everything back.
