Back in 1989-90, this was my favorite record. I was introduced to it by my sister, who is 3 years younger than me. I still love it. It's perfect. John Squire's guitar work is impeccable.

By far the best UK album from 1989. The year after Some Friendly got out but I still rate the SR album higher.
Better than expected. Fools Gold is still by far my favourite song from them, but there were some other pretty good tracks as well.
Incredibly pleasant to listen to. The flow and consistency of the album is just perfect.

Definitely their best album. 'I wanna be adored' and 'Fools gold' are great tracks to top and tail the album. New found appreciation for The Stone Roses and a good album to work too.
Feels like the perfect album to get stoned to. Lay on your back in the grass for the first 11 songs and then dance your heart out to Fools Gold.

Five great tracks bookend this album, around a somewhat anonymous middle section. Quite why they decided to drag "I am the Resurrection" and "Fools Gold" out to well north of 8 minutes each, is beyond me - ended up turning good tracks into tests of endurance.
Beneath the hype is a pretty decent album.

3.5, will round up today. The album definitely grooves but not sure if it did anything unusual or out of the ordinary.
The jangly guitars and lush harmonies of the 60s meet the slick production of the 80s, and the marriage is blissful. To produce a debut this confident and fully-formed is rare indeed, but the Stones Roses manage with flourishes of true brilliance.

A less depressing Smiths Beach Boys meets late British Invasion
I love this kind of English rock. Great guitar. Chill, and definitely an album I could have on in the background just to pass time. A lot of it feels like music that would’ve been used in the moody teen dramas of the late 90s & early 00s, and I can dig that vibe.

Really enjoyed the dreamy/mesmerizing rock beats. Unfortunately I found the lyrics to be bland and way too repetitive which brings down the album just a touch. I can see myself listening to this passively as background music because the instrumentals are just so good. Definitely not an album I'll forget about.
Seemed like they were a trend setter, but kinda just sounded like Brit pop. Not bad! Not great either!

This was about my 3rd listen overall to this album and it gets better every time. All the songs are great and I was disappointed when it was over.

For what these guys were trying to do, I think they nailed it. The variety of sounds is great, and they're woven together well, giving each track a well-polished feel.
Pleasant, however, it didn't make much impact on me. A forgettable record.
Ciężko mi powiedzieć cokolwiek o tym albumie. Nic mnie nie wciągnęło. Miałem wrażenie, że niektóre piosenki były lepsze od innych, ale już nawet nie pamiętam które. W gruncie rzeczy to jest typowy zespół, który jakby na koncercie wyszedł jako support to by człowiek powiedział "No mają jakiś talent, coś tam grają, fajnie". Ale w 1001 najlepszych albumów album, który brzmi jakby generowała go jakaś SI? Z takich pozytywów ponad 3 to ta ich adaptacja Scarborough Fair bardzo przyjemna!

This album started off ok but quickly went onto pretentious indie hipster sounds. I was genuinely annoyed by some of the songs on this album. Many went on too long and this album felt too long in general. To my surprise it was only 60 minutes? Can you also imagine how stupid this guy is that he meant to draw a French flag, but actually drew the Dutch flag! Would've given it 3 stars but deducting one for that too.
I really enjoyed this album. I wanna be adored is the highlight for me (and is also the only one I knew beforehand). This is going in the rotation! Is it a 5? Sure, let's be nice.
One all time favourite - tunes start to finish !
This album has chased me around for a couple of decades. It's the kind of album that, even though I've listened to it more than once, I feel like I haven't heard it. And I think that's because I don't really like it that much? But I feel like I should, in the sense that I like everything around it, but I don't like very much what's in it. I mean, it's solid, but I just don't love it.
It's fine, whatever. Faded into the background. I know people who rave about this album but it barely left a mark. A couple of tracks sounded like 1980s era Stranglers. Oh well.
Did we listen to another Stone Roses record already? I can't remember, but feel like we did. Anyway, yeah it's very listenable. I never raced for the skip button, but I sure as heck did a quick glance up when the song that is every bit a cover of "Scarborough Fair" by Simon & Garfunkle came on, and I'm genuinely confused why it's called "Elizabeth My Dear." Can you just change the lyrics and do that? I guess so. Huh. (And kudos to this list maker for finding a way to put even MORE Paul Simon in here, which I didn't think was humanly possible at this point.) I liked enough of the rest of it to not be mad we listened to it. And I can see why people thought this was cool in 1989. It feels easy and safe to say there might not be Oasis without the Stone Roses, unless I'm wrong about my dates.
the sheer brilliance of the music overcomes the fact no album with Ian Brown singing should be five stars, or even three.
Wow, does this albums start off super strong. 'I Wanna Be Adored,' 'She Bangs the Drums,' and 'Waterfall' are all fantastic songs that set a strong tone for the rest of the album. The other songs don't quite live up to what was set up, but they're still great to have on. This is one of those albums that introduces you to a band and makes you wonder, "How have I never heard of these guys before?" I don't know if the rest of The Stone Roses albums are of the same quality, but I will definitely be listening to more from them in the future.
Pretty good listen. Loved a lot of the tracks especially Waterfall and it's subsequent track: waterfall in reverse. Was caught off guard but was actually enjoyable. I thought the bass throughout the album was top notch
Not previously into Stone Roses and not familiar with much other than Fool's Gold. First listen and feels like a group evolving from a mixture of post-punk c1979 through C86 indie to their strongest material, as represented by Fool's Gold (far and away the stand out track), She bands the drum and Waterfall. Ian Brown's vocals get a bit lost in the mix - and he doesn't have the most commanding of voices anyway - and give many of the songs a slightly ghostly feel. A pleasant listen and would happily repeat play without necessarily wanting to further check out Stone Roses catalogue
Really solid Brit pop album, though I prefer Blur more. -1 star because they’re from Manchester and being from Manchester isn’t a personality
I really like this a lot. I only know I wanna be adored and Fools Gold, but i can see the rest of the album growing on me.

Spent most of the album with this at a two, as in "why is this generic boring shit on here". But some of the later tracks reminded me a bit of A House (a superior band) and it softened me to a 3. IT'S ALL FINE

Massive formative part of my life was spent listening to this album. if you took don't stop off then this would be very close to perfection for me. i wonder what the yanks think of the whole baggy manc thing?
As a very famous 90s footballer, I know this record incredibly well. The boys in the dressing room would always stick this on after a big win and suck eachother off. Those days when the entire Chelsea first team and backroom staff would jizz all over me were some of the best times ever.

I feel like the Stone Roses are a band I'm never going to properly get. The bookends of this album are well known but not must-listens to me at any given time, and the middle of it leaves me bored.
This is really, really good. One of the best we've had, comfortable 4 and not far off a 5. It flows really nicely (like a proper album), there are quite a few really good songs on there (it'd still be a decent album even if you only had 2 out of I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs The Drums, Waterfall, Made of Stone, and I Am the Resurrection, let alone all 5), and there's not a lot of filler. It does dip a bit briefly in the middle (the main culprit being the weird reworking of Scarborough Fair into Elizabeth My Dear), but not a lot. Without a couple of those tracks, it'd be close to a 5; if you tightened it all up and took 30s to a minute out of most of the tracks, it'd comfortably get a 5.
Not bad music, but the vocals/lyrics tether nooses to the vibe to make it all a bit drab.
At times soothing, at times exciting, but more "blah" than I prefer. The songs "Waterfall" and "Shoot You Down" really caught my attention.
I know this is a big one, but I've never spent the time with it until now. It's pleasant enough I guess. I don't really understand all the hype that surrounds it, but I can certainly see how it paved the way for Britpop.
First track was really good and definitely my thing, but then it went a bit too much into brit-pop for me. Still good, just not my thing.
I didn't get the hype over this album. For me, it just sounds like old pop. Sounds old today as it probably sounded in 1989.
British pop punk - fun

I didn't hate this as much as I expected to. But it is undeniably, very much, a late 80s non-Seattle alternative album. Every song was the same and it went forever, fuck. 2/5.
Not really the genre I’m normally into, but it was a fun listening experience nonetheless. A lot of the songs sounded really similar to me, probably because I don’t listen to enough rock music. I was the biggest fan of I Wanna Be Adored, and She Bangs The Drums.

Ok but not that interesting
You can tell the musical quality of The Stone Roses at this time was supreme not only through the amount of singles of their debut, but also the songs left of the album. Fool's Gold, Mersey Paradise and Elephant Stone are some of the excellent tracks that were left of the original release. The tracks that made it instead are decent at worst and brilliant at best. I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs the Drums, Made of Stone and I Am the Resurrection are the cream of the crop. The instrumentation is top-notch as well with the rhythm section knowing where to fire all cylinders and when to be understated. There is also some innovative tactics applied here as well, like reversing the instrument tracks on Waterfall to make Don't Stop. The vocals are calm and laidback which fit the songs very well, and the guitarist takes the songs to another level.
Classic 5 out of 5
3/5. I head this album many times, and the songs just aren't standing out or sticking with me. I want to love it. It's just good.
Some great songs
This album is a mixture of very blah mushy boring guitar music, the guitar solos really irritate me, not good enough or exciting enough to be so self indulgent. Thennn I really like the song Waterfall and there were a few other decent moments... I do like the overall sound, it's both nostalgic and also cheery/relaxing. A nice 3.
I thought this was great, obviously knew quite a bit of Stone Roses and this album as a whole was a lot less heavy than some of the other stuff I am familiar with. I was mostly introduced to them when I visited my cousin in Wester Australia, and we had a great time on a road trip blasting his fave Stone Roses songs in his big 4x4. Great times
I'd never really listened to the Stone Roses before, I always knew the name and the album cover but when it came up I realised I didn't know it. Probably for the best because I found it completely naff dad music, so boring and wet.
Strong record from the indie rock movement of the late 80’s college radio scene. 10 minutes of self indulgent Fools Gold can be forgiven.

Some great moments here but it doesn't blow my mind the I wish it did. It probably has many ingredients that I enjoy in an album: electric guitars used in a non conventional way, electronic sounds, some psychedelia, some 60s jingle jangle, and so on. I probably should stick with it for some time. Also, as many albums from the CD era, bizarrely the Brit pop ones mainly, it sounds tinny at times, which really bothers my ears.

This is an album that I constantly hear I'm "supposed" to like. Given it a try many times and although it's good it's not as special as they make out. Perhaps I was a little too young at the time, coming into my own as Oasis who were massively influenced by this came through, but find them just listenable like morning tv background music.

Definitely a contender for one of the best debut albums, this is a classic that deserves its status. The vocals are mellow but never boring, the guitars jangle with bite, the bass throbs and the drums drive. There's some nice psychedelic touches but it always remains accessible. It's groovy enough to dance to and they remembered to bring some decent tunes along. Yep, this is a corker of an LP.

Nostalgia strikes again! I was a bit too young when it was first released, it wasn't until the mid/late-90s when the rock nightclub in Liverpool, the Krazy House, used to always play I Am The Resurrection for their penultimate song. I picked up a copy of the album and it became a regular listen.
Meh.. There were some good moments. Some good grooves. Otherwise, I felt like it was pretty corny. Just seems like it didn’t age well? Maybe? Idk.. it didn’t seem super long even though it was an hour long. That’s a plus, by the way. I wanted it to end the whole time. I guess the universe answered me.
More British dad rock. I've listened to this before and it's alright. Better than most Madchester and Britpop shite. Fools Gold is a great track which didn't appear on the original tracklist (as it was a non-album single). If they made a whole album with that funk-leaning sound, I'd be into it. As it stands, lots of the tracks are dreary indie-pop. Waterfall is catchy dreary pop. Then there's a song that sounds like Waterfalls played backwards, just because it's psychedelic, innit our kid. 2.5*
angsty and nice
For this album, we have New Order to thank. Not only did the Stone Roses get their start in New Order's club The Haçienda, but they would be heavily inspired by New Order's alternative dance innovations. Mixing this together with neo-psychadelic sounds and some jangle pop from the 60's, and we have the Stone Roses' debut album. With this new sound in their hands, The Stone Roses, alongside Happy Mondays, would be at the forefront of the Madchester genre, a precursor to britpop which would flourish later in the 90's. In the meantime, The Stone Roses would be releasing music that is rhythmically non-stop and upbeat while pulling from sound textures from the 60's and 70's. It's uniquely British, but still pretty good! Not quite for me I think but I can still appreciate quality music when I hear. Also of note, the official release didn't have Fools Gold which is fantastic song, but streaming services will include it at the end so I'm considering that version to be the official one.

Pretty decent British pop album. There are times when it felt like 80s music and other times when they felt like an older band as well. The music felt like standard Brit pop that has been made for a while now. Not bad just standard. 6.4/10

Man that was some proto Britpop fun
I had heard "I Wanna Be Adored" many times and always liked it, yet for some reason, I don't think I listened to much more of their music. I'm glad this album came up in my rotation. This band is really good. Love their sense of groove, which they interweave wonderfully with nice pop hooks. To me, they seem to include a fun sense of pop and rock composition without getting snarky or cynical about it. Snarky and cynical can work in some music, but at times I must confess I kind of roll my eyes a bit (or a lot) when I hear the same themes on that front. There are some outstanding vocal harmonies here, and the musicians play so well. Everything comes together nicely, production is solid, and it's overall rather enjoyable. "Fool's Gold" is super-fun; such a great track with which to end the album. Nicely done!

I could never get into them.
I like how so many 4/5 reviewers seem surprised by this album. That was me back in '89 when this band showed up. Believe me, they surprised all of us. 1989-90, my freshman year in college. Stone Roses may have technically debuted in the middle of '89 and this gets talked about as an ‘80s album, but really the band is more about the ‘90s and what was to come. The Stone Roses sounded ridiculously fresh at the time, ushering in a sound that was really different from what came before it. It was all over college radio for a couple of years, and I carried a cassette of this album everywhere with me. There wasn’t anything particularly revolutionary about The Stone Roses that you could point out. But they took all the best aspects of what came before them (pop, post punk, psychedelic) and somehow managed to make a sound and a genre that was distinctively theirs. It really changed the way music sounded, for years. They were a bridge between the post punk sound of the 80s and Britpop and Indie music to come, while somehow skating past a lot of what was going on with alternative here in the States. The songs are unabashedly lovely. They’re jangly, shimmering, melodic, gorgeously hooky songs. The lyrics are occasionally hazy and lacking in depth, but it's forgivable when the music sounds this good. It’s sometimes trippy, sometimes self-indulgent, but enjoyable from front to back. It's a downright shame this band was around so briefly. But they left behind a perfect album. Fave Songs (All songs, in order from most to least favorite): I Wanna Be Adored, I Am the Resurrection, (Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister, Made of Stone, Shoot You Down, Bye Bye Bad Man, She Bangs the Drums, Don't Stop, Waterfall, This is the One, Elizabeth My Dear. Fool’s Gold, which wasn’t part of the original UK version, but was on my well-worn cassette, deserves a 5 all on its own.
This is first time listen for me. I thought the album was arranged beautifully and studio engineered to perfection. Wasn't necessarily in love with the techno rock rave song but the rest of the album is exceptional. They sound they have musical influences from everybody. I heard Morrisey, The Beach Boys , Pink Floyd and others. Really enjoyed and will be doing a deeper dive on the The Stone Roses.

I thought this album was cool. It definitely mirrors a lot of what other alternative rock groups were doing in the 80s, and as a consequence it doesn't stand out as much as some of the other early alt-rock albums I've listened to, like Surfer Rosa. Still, they made a lot of cool choices on this album. 4/5

Mulle henkilökohtasesti biisien puolesta ehkä 3-3.5/5, mutta Fools Gold on niin bängeri että nostaa kirkkaasti neljään.
Uuh, paluu ikisuosikkien pariin. Varsinkin ekat 3 biisiä mennään oman musamaun zeniitissä. Loputkin maistuu ja fiilaan tunnelmaa. Fools Gold on tietty upea ja kai sen voi tälle levylle laskea. Ehkä tää on puolet 5/5 ja puolet 4/5, mutta pyöristetään nyt ylöspäin, kun ei vitosia tule liikaa jaeltua.

Decent album, not a huge fan of the vocals.
This album feels uninspired and repetitive. The songs are fine, but nothing that you haven't heard before or that was made in a better way after.

(3) I appreciated being slapped in the face with weirdness for the five minutes of the fourth track of this. Don't understand the acclaim, but Don't Stop and what followed it make the Stone Roses' self-titled a worthwhile listen. Those first three tracks are pretty conventional, and so are the general arrangements. Th roughness of the entire presentation is intriguing but not quite right.
I walked into this album believing the Stone Roses to be a very overrated band with a lot of vapid meaningless songs in their back catalogue...

Great album
Having never heard of this band before, I am completely blown away. I loved every song on the album and this is the first time that I can remember tapping my foot to any album yet (7/26/25); between the varied styles, the lyrics, the presentation, it all kept me guessing and I couldn't get enough. That's the thing that really got me, they never stuck to a genre really, but their style stayed the same. You know it's their music but are pleasantly surprised with the direction. Stellar album, really makes me happy that I decided to do this list. Favorite songs: I Wanna Be Adored She Bangs the Drums Waterfall Elizabeth My Dear Fools Gold
As I think back to the summer of 2012, I believe that it would have been utterly bleak if it weren't for this album. I don't remember much from this period of time but, what I do remember, this was the soundtrack. A path down the rabbit hole ensued with this band (I never ventured into the third album) and they are forever engrained, in my mind, in these sublime sounds they created. Thank you Stone Roses, you are adored indeed.
I hadn't purposely listened to The Stone Roses before, but I really enjoyed this album. They're a new staple.

I’ve not taken nearly enough ecstasy to make this album more than just passable.
I listened to this for the first time about four or five months ago. It's not exactly my style, and it's kind of uneven, but I respect it for being one of those albums that was clearly an important stepping stone in music's evolution.
I think this album was a big step forward in music at the time. It continues to have some appeal but a lot of the songs just don't seem as innovative as I imagine they must have been back then. Still a very solid work, but I just don't see it as belonging in the upper echelons that the critics seem to place it.

Great Debut album! Never explored this band before, but this album is an amazing gem.
Track 1.) Decent album opener. Nice chilled rock vibe about it, should have listened to The Stone Roses much before now Track 2.) Definitely a overhyped song. Strays away a little bit from the rest of the album but an album has good and bad songs. Track 3.) Some would say Waterfall is kinda the same feel as She Bangs the Drum but there’s something about the guitar in this song that makes me like it compared to the one before. It might be that guitar riff where it tops She Bangs the Drum Track 4.) I can gather that they’re going for the rockstar approach on this track but it just doesn’t hit the mark with me. Track 5.) Completely different song. Nice acoustic feel to it probs one of my favourites of the album. Track 6.) Even more different, 50 seconds of fingerpicking guitar and a poem of lyrics to marry the two. Track 7.) Much better song compared to the first half of the album. More of an alternative tone to it. Really like this one. Track 8.) Again more alternative tone much better than first half of album. Ian Brown just knows what to write when it comes to writing lyrics. Nice little guitar solo aswell. Much better tone. Track 9.) I feel they take a lot of inspiration from 50s and 60s bands with this song and some parts it works and other not. But again nice guitar tone. Track 10.) This is the One starts all big to guitar and bass. Big kick drum and lyrics. Then into what I think the Stone Roses should be big drums and bass with the guitar just heard but rememberable creating a more rockstar feel about the song. Track 11.) Very 60’s, but brought into the 80’s and 90’s. Some of the songs work and some don’t. The instrument at the end brings it back and changes the whole aspect of the song for the better. Track 12.) Fools Gold. Classic I can perfectly see why so many people love this album and the success it had on release with Madchester I can’t fault it. But it’s just not my thing but am not against listening to The Stone Roses again and adding them to the playlist.
The singer has a pretty good voice, but awful enunciation. It constantly sounds like he’s slurring or mumbling the lyrics. Between that and the terrible mixing it was a struggle to understand a word he was saying, even when I relistened after reading the lyrics. A pretty definitive “meh” from me; it’s catchy in a generic sort of way, but the aforementioned issues with the vocals made it a chore to listen to otherwise.

Overall pretty solid

MADCHESTER. BIBLICAL.
I always slag off The Stone Roses because of their reputation in Manchester despite only having one album. But this happens to be that album and it is a damn good one to be fair and very iconic
I've always thought there was a disconnect between the Stone Roses' lad-rock following and the kind of music they actually made. I also thought they were largely overrated - just accomplished musicians with a few good tunes and a few dull ones. That may still be true, but I'm happy to concede that this is a strong album. I still think I Wanna Be Adored and I Am The Resurrection are clear stand-outs but the jangly stuff in between has grown on me too.
Easy 5 stars. Sublime They do lose a star due to Ian Brown's dangerous anti-vax conspiracy spreading but they also gain a star due to Ian Brown's impressive nunchuck skills

The first couple of songs were pretty great but then the album took a nose dive and I had a hard time getting with it.
I've listened to this extensively in the past. Remastered version is very mellow and strangely paced but has some excellent songs - she bangs the drums and I am the resurrection are highlights, and fool's gold is a brilliant song. Good start, even if it is unlikely to become one of my favourites.
I was surprised by how much I liked this one - it's like a little psychedelic alt-rock adventure. My favorite track on the album, "Fool's Gold", has a funky almost trip-hop beat that carries it along, and it's very nice. I have a feeling that I'll be coming back to this album.

Brilliant, classic, hear its influences all over the place. I was a bit surprised how may of the songs I knew, but they released SIX singles, and one of the other songs is one of the singles backwards! Really enjoyed it, but now frustrated they didn't kick on from here.

This will always be one of my favorite albums ever. It's certainly their high point as a band. Song For My Sugar Spun Sister, Fool's Gold and especially I Am The Resurrection are the highlights.

Catchy tunes with lots of hooks, jangly guitars, groovy rhythms - what's not to like? I enjoyed this quite a bit. 4 stars.
Fairly cool album I hadn't heard - I can definitely hear the influence they had on Belle & Sebastian who I love, especially on She Bangs The Drums which sounds a lot like an early B&S track. Fool's Gold is a tune also, I'd heard it but didn't realise it was them, v. different to the rest of the album tho. Didn't find the album mind-blowing but it's pretty pleasant and an interesting early Brit-pop entry in between The Smiths and Oasis, Blur etc. with some interesting 1950s/60s influences that made me think of bands like The Zombies and The Turtles.

This is a real "album." It sets a nice consistent mood for an hour without ever jarring you out of that mood—even with a particularly catchy tune. An hour of "like" without any moments of "love." It does take me back to late 80s moody college dorm rooms, but I can't say I knew it in particular.
Had no idea what I was about to listen to. I found the first track (I Wanna Be Adored) unbelievably boring the first time through and was afraid I was going to loathe the rest of the album. But I smiled through the remaining songs and immediately started the record over. Love the Brit-pop vocals and jangly guitar. I'll come back to this one. p.s. If no one's done it yet, "This is the One" would be the perfect soundtrack to the ending of a manic pixie dream girl movie.
How have I never heard any of this before?! Really enjoyed the easygoing sound. The guitars shimmer over the ethereal vocals on (This Is The One is a great example) and their songs seem to unfold delicately to reveal their story. Was Don’t Stop was recorded backwards? I Am The Resurrection is a wild mix of poppy music over some seriously angry lyrics, with a killer guitar ending. Love it so much. My favorite song from this album. Still perplexed how I missed this group entirely but very exciting to realize things like this are out there just waiting to be discovered.

What a fantastic album this is. My favorite from this Madchwster scene. So melodic and soulful. One great song after another and my vinyl copy doesn't even have Fools Gold. 5 🌟
Started getting a bit samey towards the end, but still quite good musicianship. I felt as though the band were really a band, if that makes any sense. I enjoyed it for the most part.

Great music to cross-stitch to. Originally, I was going to say relaxing, but not a sleep sort of relaxing. Then I reflected upon the album and realized everything was fairly upbeat, but not in-your-face up beat. All in all, great all-around album for an all-around average sort of day/task.

This album manages to bring together a host of influences in a coherent and interesting way. I can hear Beatles, the Smiths, Joy Division, dance sounds and more in this album. The 'Madchester' scene of which the Stone Roses were a key player, was born of the indie dance scene fused with psychedelia and pop sounds. This movement found mainstream success but started to decline in the earlier nineties as Britpop and Grunge became favored.

I didn’t enjoy this album to the point where I started daydreaming and didn’t realize it was playing. It had little fleeting moments of “ooo ahh okay” but none that stuck.

Shame he's an absolute whopper
This album is something else. While it very much feels like a product of the 1980's, carrying it with it the feel of the decade's pop or new wave artists, the way those elements are fused with the rock/alt-rock underpinnings results in something unlike anything I've ever heard. It's like The Smiths or New Order, but poppier and dance-ier. The album starts off incredibly strong with 'I Wanna Be Adored' and 'She Bangs the Drums', the latter being my favourite track on the album. However, it remains strong throughout - 'Waterfall', 'Bye Bye Bad Man', 'Sugar Spun Sister', 'Made of Stone' - this album is filled with bangers.

Sounds like the Beatles doing new wave jangle rock. Pretty good and something I could get into with more time dedicated to it. Favorite tracks are “She Bangs The Drum” and “Made of Stone”.
Some of it gets a bit wanky, especially the backwards parts but it doesn't really detract from the high points

Never heard of these guys before but was a solid album, good guitars, chill music with some oomph. Another review compared to Oasis before there was Oasis and I could see where they're getting that. Dig this, will be adding some of their tunes to my playlist.

Highly influential album, especially to me. It's a damn shame everything they made after this was pretty meh; I suppose some groups are only destined to make 1 really great thing. But hey I'm not complaining, if the best I could do was make 1 album as incredible and timeless as this I'd be pretty damn happy. One of the best albums to ever come out of Manchester, period.

Dear god, the shimmery chorus pedal… inject that directly into my eardrums. Cranberries-esque. I love it. Vocal melodies and harmonies are great. I bet the Uninvited guys love this album. There’s a clear influence there. “Elizabeth, my dear” - cheeky “Scarborough Fair” parody. But she’s still queen, you poor bastards! 32 years later! First time I have rolled it back for a second listen. That’s probably a good sign, lol

So this album...it was good, but I felt like it was nothing that special. Nothing really stood out. But I liked the vocals on every song.

Right off the bat I know I'm going to like this album. I recognize "I Wanna Be Adored" probably because it usually ends up on some of the indie playlists/radios I already listen to. Just based on the first song, it kinda reminds me of artists like the Pixies or My bloody valentine. I had to skip through "dont stop" because it was making my little adhd brain too overstimulated lol.
"I Wanna Be Adored" started out like I was listening to Pink Floyd. "She Bangs the Drums" gives me Beach Boys vibes. Beach Boys might not be right but it's a band I know I've heard. "Waterfall" is really good, I like it. Probably a good concert song. The beginning of "Don't Stop" sounds like it would be from Aerosmith. "Bye Bye Bad Man" would have been good in Legion or HIMYM. "Elizabeth My Dear" who is this, Garfunkel and Oates? "(Song For My) Sugar Spun Sister" not much to say but I liked it. "Made of Stone" was reallllly good. I like this one. "Shoot You Down" Beach Boys vibes again? "This Is the One" it sounds familiar but I don't know where I would've heard it. OH! Previous songs reminded me of a cross between Beach Boys and The Cherries. That's what it was. "I Am the Resurrection" without listening to the lyrics closely enough, is this Christian themed? "Fools Gold" long, but good. I liked this album. It's not what I typically listen to but I liked it.
3.5 if I could. But after a second listen it tips over to a 4.
