Reviews (page 12 of 14)

This was quite ahead of it's time

Didn't expect much from this album, but it was a good listen. The tracks are different enough from each other to be actually distinguishable. I appreciated the genre bending from track to track. Favorite tracks: Bye Bye Bad Man, Made of Stone, This Is the One, Fools Gold

• rating : three of five • overall thoughts : I enjoyed the album at some times but not at others. Fantastic sequencing, however many of the songs blend into eachother a little too much, making them sounds very same-y. I'm also normally a fan of the Madchester sound but it didn't do it for me this time. • overall favourite track : 'I Wanna Be Adored' • best tracks : 'I Wanna Be Adored', 'She Bangs The Drum', 'Made Of Stone' and 'I Am The Resurrection'. • instruments : big fan of the basslines on many tracks. use of non-instrumental noise provides nice atmosphere but can get messy and forgettable at times. • background : major jumpscare (affectionate) to see Peter Hook producing on 'Elephant Stone'.

Fav song: song for my sugar spin sister

Vackert sound

Throughout most of this I can really see why it still resonates, but it's not quite my brand and there were too many tracks that lost me for me to go back. Fave track: Waterfall

a mix of the beatles with gin blossoms and a *hint* of simon and garfunkel. good album. very listenable.

Period appropriate British pop punk. A good listen, but nothing mind blowing.

I really loved the instrumentals.

Solid brit pop but didn't hold my interest. Although one song got added to favorites.

Started strong. Somehow derivative and groundbreaking at the same time. Got lazy at the end and devolved into crap that smelled like oasis.

Ok with it - but not quite my style.

Have never really listed to The Stone Roses - good album, find it a bit all over the place tho (last song is really good). Unfortunate that I.B. went on the anti-vaxx train/PPE during the pandemic.

Gegen Ende wird das Album fröhlich gut. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

All the songs on the album were okay listens. The sort of album you’d expect to be playing in a slightly grungy bar with rock poster on the walls

Very laid back album that gets a little more funky as the album moves along. This is very much a on in the background type album, not anything that I would put on headphones and give 100% of my time to.

A bit 80's for my taste but overall the whole album was pretty decent. I think I preferred the album's less popular songs because the sounds less 80's in comparison to the rest of the album

This is the type of music I would’ve walked laps around my high school to. Avoiding math teachers too. Not sure I’m grooved in the same way anymore, but I’m still pacing. Really transports me back though, even with this being my first listen. That I know of. Would either be great during a night drive or absolutely abysmal and sleep-crash inducing. I’m tired so this isn’t making much sense. Not a fan of the waterfall song. Elizabeth, My Dear was a nice interlude. Very British. Not feeling it right now. Honestly might give up because I get the gist.

Fools gold best song on the album 3/5 didn’t not like it but might not listen again

Overall pretty good.

Heard before, still mid

i listened to this while i was biking home. super mid. two tracks stood out and only because there was some semblance of s bass line. i def need to listen again and give it a fair evaluation but it really was super middle of the ground. at least Who's Next had Baba O'Rily and the CSI song. but this album being so mid makes me also want to give it 3 stars. the first song takes like a full minute to start smh. the last song is pretty cool but it's 10 minutes long. Song For My Sugar sounds like I might have liked it if it was in the Shrek soundtrack. it's probably because I've heard music that was made after this and NOT in a garage but this album just strikes me as so mid in every way. I wanna listen to 60s rock or 90s+ rock and these guys found the middle ground and i HATE it. but that might be exactly what you want. booooring. i listened more and this album would be a good one to grow on but not something that strikes me as immediately gripping.

Rough and awesome

Can definitely hear the big influence that these guys were to Oasis. I thought it was a pretty enjoyable album. There are a lot of good tracks but I'm not sure any ever elevate to exceptional. I thought quite a few of the tracks blend together and sound very similar, the middle of the album espeically drags. Overall a pretty solid album. Highlights: I Wanna Be A Door (there is no one that can convince me he is enunciating that last D in adored) She Bangs The Drums Fools Gold

Jam band. Grunge.

Pretty cool stuff yet I don't think I'd go back to it ever. However if I'm in a movie dream sequence having a conversation with myself in a bar, this would be on

Ágætis plata. Minnir óþarflega mikið á ljóta bucket hatta, en það skiptir kannski ekki mestu máli.

I only knew “I wanna be adored” from this album, but so far I’m really enjoying it :) Particularly, the song “She bangs the drums”

Easy listening

its good, dont get me wrong. but im not a rabid SR fan, as so many of thier fans seem to be. meh....

Decent album but not great for me. Would listen again.

Fine. Easy to listen to

It was good but nothing really grabbed me. I really liked their sound though.

At times the album is like an updated Simon and Garfunkel sound, at others it is distinctive. Not enough vocal variation by the lead singer to make the album interesting all the way through.

A very modern Beatles. Nice and relaxing.

What a surprise! A cross between Oasis and the ??

I was surprised how old this album was. I thought it would be mid-to-late 90s, instead of 1989. Few very known bangers, but otherwise not that memorable.

Not my style but nice to listen 7/10

foi um album bem npc, sei lá.

Some good songs, but not edgy enough for me

Theory would suggest I’d really like this, but the pieces don’t quite fit in practice.

Interesting, quite listenable music.

Some good moments especially on the B side

I was around when this album was released and I thought it was drab. I didn't pay it any more attention until Second Coming was released. I really like that album, so I figure give the first one another chance. Still not interested. So I spent the next two decades enjoying the Stone Roses album that everyone pisses on. It's third time the charm? Nope. I Wanna Be Adored is maybe the only intriguing track. Although, I Am The Resurrection gets pretty good and reveals the band's future sound. I don't dislike this album, I just think it's vastly overrated.

I've listened to this album a bunch over the years, and it's just "just alright" for me. I guess I'd rather listen to Jesus and Mary Chain instead?

I get the hype. This struck me as a hazier, more washed-out progression on the pop sounds that The Beatles first brought to Great Britain in the 1960s. It effectively integrates dancier, indier undertones into this sound turning it into something really unique and dynamic. That being said, as original and creative as this album is, British pop sounds have never really interested me that much on an individual level. As well-orchestrated as this project is, it lacks some heart in its overly bright, ear-pleasing instrumentals and vocals. All in all, a well-made project that's worth listening to, it still isn't one of my favorites though.

It all kind of sounds the same.

The Stone Roses do a great job showing who they are on their debut album. And who they are is essentially The Byrds doing punk rock. Could be worse. Rating: 7.5/10

This was alright. Toe-tappy but nothing remarkable. 👍, but nothing special.

Halfway through the album, began to sound the same. Nice music, but wears thin after a bit.

I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs the Drums, Elizabeth My Dear, (Song for My) Sugar Spun Sister, Made of Stone and I Am the Resurrection (best song). It feels like the vocals are being sung from 10 feet away and I can’t understand what is being said.

the album was a letdown after the first song. i wanna be adored is a 5. the rest are mostly 2s.

A mixture of some amazing instrumentation and some bland generic brit rock. 3.5/5 FS: Elephant Stone, Elizabeth, Made of Stone, Resurrection, Fools Gold

This album art is truly an eyesore, already it's being deducted 0.5 stars for such an atrocity. Sounds great so far though, in fact, I'm rather sad that I had never heard anything by this band before. Waterfall is so good holy shit hell yeah. No more thoughts, but the album is very fun (3.5)

I really like their sound. Most of the songs were very similar. I’m not sure if that is strictly true, or if I am just missing the subtle differences upon first listen. I really liked the last song on the album. It sounded funkier than the previous songs.

I listened to this on three different occasions, and on each, I liked what I was hearing and barely remembered what it was I was listening to. Not sure if that's on the music or the listener, but it clearly failed to make a lasting impression, so it gets the 'ol middle of the road rating.

Nothing that blew me away, pretty chilled music though

I’ve heard of this band but never bothered to check them out. This album was pretty good. Kinda on the tail end of that 80s new wave sound but mixed with early britpop. Also some 60s psychedelic aspects as well, taking inspiration from bands like The Byrds.

Good stuff!

Good but not great. I wouldn't put them on intentionally but I wouldn't turn it off either.

I wasn't really feeling this one, to be honest, but I can't really say it was the fault of the Stone Roses or anything like that. Just wasn't feeling it. Made of Stone is a right banger though, that's for sure.

kind of boring tbh

Sounded like a song came twice, the second time in reverse. Did they really record it in reverse? I might have to look that up. + Elisabeth My Dear + Song for My (Sugar Spun Sister) + Made of Stone + Shoot You Down

Better than I thought it was gonna be

While I liked the dreamy, reverbed jam vibes this brought, I can't help but feel like it never hit the mark fully. It's unfortunate, I was hoping for a bit more here.

What a Rollercoaster, probably started around a 2, then rocketed to a 4. But The songs overall are too long, and I'd way I'd have preferred some truncation here.

I like the album cover. The album itself is pretty good and quite british sounding. The instrumentation is very good and the songs are catchy.

Decent soft rock that was easy to listen to while driving. Not something I would regularly listen to, but pleasant just the same. I’d give it 3.5 stars if I could.

great opening and ending, lacklustre middle section but overall is pretty good. Best tracks: waterfall, I wanna be adored, she bangs the drums

I like the atmosphere of it but some is a bit plain.

Dear Britsbongs: Please stop chomping on pills like they’re tarts, it doesn’t make you as interesting as you think it does.

Another Brit pop choice that I only knew the name before today I don’t know why, but I liked this one, especially Waterfall and Don’t Stop

Overall good. It was extremely well produced and decently interesting. I’m sure it was ground breaking for it’s time but it’s a 3.5 for me

I was hoping that this would grab me more than it did. I feel like I'm missing something here. My favourite song was Bye Bye Bad Man.

Bland, but decent if it is playing in the background.

I tried to imagine myself getting excited about this and I couldn't do it. Best track: She Bangs the Drums

Based on 'I Wanna Be Adored' and 'Don't Stop', I expected to like this a lot more than I actually did. I think it started out strong, but it really fell off towards the end. Shame, because I was really excited for this to my new album.

This is one of those that kills me inside. The genre is great, the instrumentals are great, it is all set up for success, then the lead singer mumbles like he's trying to chew on cotton. Sing clearly so we can understand you please. This would be a fringe 5 otherwise. I'm not mad, just disappointed.

It’s a pretty good album. They want to be The Smiths so bad.

Decent stuff, guitars carried

Have actually had this one on my planning list for awhile, so glad it showed up here and I finally got to here it. It's...fine, pleasant. To be such a foundational baggy record, it sounds very different from what I know as baggy, has more of a throwback 60s psychedelic pop vibe. The singles are great, but a lot of the album tracks don't stick. Don't love it, but wouldn't mind hearing it again. 3.5/5

Enjoyed some of the songs and the overall sound.

This is another one I felt some resistance toward - I think because of negative associations with one or two big fans of this album long in the past. Turns out I rather enjoyed it. Not so much that I'm going to rush out and buy it, but enough that I'd happily consider giving it some more attention at some point. The rhythm section in particular was much more interesting than what I (wrongly) expected of the era and the locale. I think Ian Brown is a bit of a knob and the arrogance of some of the lyrics sure doesn't help in overlooking or moving away from that, but he's also pretty good at what he does. This one may eventually move up for me

…Fools Gold is the memorable track that cemented this group in the era.

the second half of the album was pretty good

Some solid indie rock! Big fan of the opening track as well has Made of Stone. Guitar work is great and it’s a fun listen. Last two songs get a little psychotic and reminds me of KGLW Fav Tracks: I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs the Drums, Made of Stone, I Am the Resurrection, Fools Gold Worst Track: Don’t Stop 7/10

I wanna be adored, made of stone , this is the one , I am the resurrection

Pretty good. Deserving of the hype surrounding this band/album? I hardly think so. Maybe you had to be there. Sounds pretty good in headphones though.

Some interesting moments but mostly a blaze snooze of an album

I have such a soft spot for this album. Critically, I don't think there's a whole lot of note to it; but it creates a vibe that just hits the spot.

Its role as a progenitor of Britpop is well-earned. Like Britpop, it starts off better than it ends. It was a good record and you can see why they had trouble following it up.

Really thought I knew this one better than I did, the only track that really triggered the member berries was Fools Gold. Great track but overall I liked but didn't love it and maybe that's why it didn't stick with me all these years.

This is fine. I’ll keep trying at some point.

I dont love it as much as Ryan does.

Elisabeth my dear

I’m surprised this was so well regarded. It’s a decent sound and Sugar Spun Sis is a good song but I don’t get why it was so popular. Perhaps in 1989 it didn’t sound so vanilla. Elizabeth My Dear made me laugh lSimon and Garfunkel took composer credit for Scarborough Fair when they released it even though Simon didn't write it. They did make it popular though and it is so fitting that The Stone Rises includes a sub 1 min. version with no mention of the or the name Paul Simon or the title Scarborough Fair .

I was mistakenly preparing for Queens of the Stone Age, waiting for the guitar onslaught that didn’t show-up (and barely, at that) until track 3, Waterfall. Once I got over that, I found a number of songs catchy in a jangly, sixties way, especially Made of Stone. I should give this a higher mark based on the quality of the song-writing but it’s hard for me to get excited about this genre, especially in 1989. As Robert Christgau would say, it’s a “likable effort consumers attuned to its overriding aesthetic or individual vision may well enjoy”.

If the Beach Boys did Shoegaze they would probably sound like this jangly indie band. To me, I wanna be adored is their best song and it came out on their debut album no less. This is a solid 2.5 for me, but since we're not doing decimals it gets rounded up.

Never quite got The Stone Roses. Ian Brown's lyrics aren't great and this album is just way too long and indulgent. The only place it would make sense is on a stoned comedown after a big night at The Haçienda.

I should surely love this album more and there are some great highlights (I Am The Resurrection) but I’d rather listen to a little Stone Roses than a lot.

This feels ahead of it's time.

Beatles meets Dandy Warholls. Good. Nothing too remarkable but I vibed with a lot of the songs

I'd say a 6/10.ok at parts made of stone is fav

Doesn't really stand out. Almost a 2.

Dad Rock as a proof of concept. Which is cruel, (and, for someone who knowing enjoys albums press-ganged into this snark, a bit close to the bone). But this is (more or less) what TSR has become. Needless to say, I Am The Revolution and Fools Gold are worth the rice of admission many times over.

This ones neat, Ive listened to it a couple times but I feel like I can only appreciate it for it's novelty and how ahead of the time it was

it was okay

Gives me kind of beatles vibes (the harmonies). Clearly British.

Not a bad album. Enjoy the beach. Not really my kind of music. But then again, I don’t know what is.

kind of nineties sound quite boring

This is a solid album that falls apart at the end. it goes from being a rock/shoe gaze esque affair to an almost jammy/spacy vibe. if it went post rock, chill, but jam? nah son. nah.

I liked the start, but not the end as much.

I'll have to revisit this, but all the sonics surprised me.

Really liked some songs; I Wanna be Adored, Fool's Gold

It's okay, it's just that nothing really sticks for me

Never as great as I imagine it is.

Most songs are good, some songs are way too long, but the songs that aren't too long are good Favorite song: She bangs the drums Worst song: Fool's Gold

fint, men kedeligt

Okay. Nothing really stood out. Might have to give a second listen

3.4 nothing special

This was fine, the opening track pretty killer. More jangle alt rock from a Brit band, similar to the Smiths. So why is it on the list when this territory is so well covered?

This was okay but didn't grab me.

Had to listen to the album a few times. First time it all felt the same, second time I had a much better appreciation for it. I liked Sugar Spun Sister a lot. Overall pretty good album for a casual listen. The voice is nothing spectacular

wow dat eerste nummer 'I wanna be adored' heerlijk. Dat pak ik mee

Decent alterative (?) late 80s album. So interesting song-to-song variation that doesn't stray too far outside the genera. The album ends with 2 "long" songs (8 and almost 10 minutes) that unfortunately drag tremendously (especially the 10 minute one) and bring down my rating of the album.

Þægilegt rokk, rennur þægilega í gegn.

Pretty good - I wanna be adored was favorite Elizabeth my dear also good

It was alright for a debut

Pretty derivative, but great atmosphere.

75/100: This has been the first album by an artist I’ve never heard before that I would listen to again. I’d never heard of the Stone Roses before, but I absolutely loved their sound and really want to dive into their discography more; however it does appear they were mostly one hit wonders with this album. To be fair though, this is a very good album. Any artist releasing this as their debut would have a very difficult time trying to trump it. The lead singer’s voice is really what sells this album to me, every song feels that much more interesting and easy to listen to because of his voice. I also appreciate how this album, released in 1989, even sounds like an album released near the turn of the 80’s and 90’s in that it’s a fun fusion between late 80’s rock and early 90’s grunge.

sounds like it’s inspired by bands like ‘the clash,’ and ‘tears for fears’

I don't think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it's inoffensive to my ears and easy to listen to.

Will need to give it another listen. Enjoyed the first listen

Wikipedia said the album was not instantly a success, but it grew to be extremely popular. I kind of felt that way listening to it. It didn't grab me when i first heard it, but it started to grow on me. I mean the whole jangle rock genre is not big on me. But the songs are crafted well. The fade in and fade out of "I Am The Resurrection" was pretty good. The vocalist was... okay. I was hoping for. bit more emotion in the lyrics, but I guess I wasn't going to get that. So, I guess a "meh" for me. Maybe if I listen to it again I'll get the appeal? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Listened very loosely to this one. No qualms but don’t want to rate it higher due to lack of attention given by me.

Not a genre I usually listen to

New to me and interesting. Need to hear more to form a good opinion.

First two songs are great, overall an overrated album

like the sound so far. im surprised ive never heard this band before. she bangs the drums is good. pretty good overall. will be listening to again. i thought it was going to be alot better but i kind of dont like alot of the other stuff

Solid alt rock album. Sound pretty fresh for 1989.

meh, it was fine

It was pretty good. Catchy but not I couldn't tell you any thing about what I heard.

Feels like the perfect album to get stoned to. Lay on your back in the grass for the first 11 songs and then dance your heart out to Fools Gold.

Pretty chill; good to listen to while doing errands.

Five great tracks bookend this album, around a somewhat anonymous middle section. Quite why they decided to drag "I am the Resurrection" and "Fools Gold" out to well north of 8 minutes each, is beyond me - ended up turning good tracks into tests of endurance.

fool's gold for a generation

The tunes are banging. The album tracks drift a bit ok.

I shrugged. 2.5/5

It was aight. Better than expected for a British pop band from the 80s

Seemed like they were a trend setter, but kinda just sounded like Brit pop. Not bad! Not great either!

Good album. "Fools Gold" top song.

Average album. Nothing really stood out for me.

This album built as it went on. I’m curious to see on multiple listens if my impressions improve further. Love the sound.

I WANNA BE ADORE MADE OF STONE SHOOT YOU DOWN

Pleasant, however, it didn't make much impact on me. A forgettable record.

This album has chased me around for a couple of decades. It's the kind of album that, even though I've listened to it more than once, I feel like I haven't heard it. And I think that's because I don't really like it that much? But I feel like I should, in the sense that I like everything around it, but I don't like very much what's in it. I mean, it's solid, but I just don't love it.

Did we listen to another Stone Roses record already? I can't remember, but feel like we did. Anyway, yeah it's very listenable. I never raced for the skip button, but I sure as heck did a quick glance up when the song that is every bit a cover of "Scarborough Fair" by Simon & Garfunkle came on, and I'm genuinely confused why it's called "Elizabeth My Dear." Can you just change the lyrics and do that? I guess so. Huh. (And kudos to this list maker for finding a way to put even MORE Paul Simon in here, which I didn't think was humanly possible at this point.) I liked enough of the rest of it to not be mad we listened to it. And I can see why people thought this was cool in 1989. It feels easy and safe to say there might not be Oasis without the Stone Roses, unless I'm wrong about my dates.

Not previously into Stone Roses and not familiar with much other than Fool's Gold. First listen and feels like a group evolving from a mixture of post-punk c1979 through C86 indie to their strongest material, as represented by Fool's Gold (far and away the stand out track), She bands the drum and Waterfall. Ian Brown's vocals get a bit lost in the mix - and he doesn't have the most commanding of voices anyway - and give many of the songs a slightly ghostly feel. A pleasant listen and would happily repeat play without necessarily wanting to further check out Stone Roses catalogue

Spent most of the album with this at a two, as in "why is this generic boring shit on here". But some of the later tracks reminded me a bit of A House (a superior band) and it softened me to a 3. IT'S ALL FINE

Enjoyable enough

Would do 3.5 if I could

I feel like the Stone Roses are a band I'm never going to properly get. The bookends of this album are well known but not must-listens to me at any given time, and the middle of it leaves me bored.

I know this is a big one, but I've never spent the time with it until now. It's pleasant enough I guess. I don't really understand all the hype that surrounds it, but I can certainly see how it paved the way for Britpop.

First track was really good and definitely my thing, but then it went a bit too much into brit-pop for me. Still good, just not my thing.

British pop punk - fun

See, I don't hate all white-dude UK rock.

Not really the genre I’m normally into, but it was a fun listening experience nonetheless. A lot of the songs sounded really similar to me, probably because I don’t listen to enough rock music. I was the biggest fan of I Wanna Be Adored, and She Bangs The Drums.

Quantomeno simpatico

Ok but not that interesting

3/5. I head this album many times, and the songs just aren't standing out or sticking with me. I want to love it. It's just good.

This album is a mixture of very blah mushy boring guitar music, the guitar solos really irritate me, not good enough or exciting enough to be so self indulgent. Thennn I really like the song Waterfall and there were a few other decent moments... I do like the overall sound, it's both nostalgic and also cheery/relaxing. A nice 3.

Some great moments here but it doesn't blow my mind the I wish it did. It probably has many ingredients that I enjoy in an album: electric guitars used in a non conventional way, electronic sounds, some psychedelia, some 60s jingle jangle, and so on.  I probably should stick with it for some time.  Also, as many albums from the CD era, bizarrely the Brit pop ones mainly, it sounds tinny at times, which really bothers my ears.

This is an album that I constantly hear I'm "supposed" to like. Given it a try many times and although it's good it's not as special as they make out. Perhaps I was a little too young at the time, coming into my own as Oasis who were massively influenced by this came through, but find them just listenable like morning tv background music.

I love the guitar work here but more mid than I remembered

Disco popero suave bastante repetitivo.

An ok alt-rock album that has paved the way for some similar sounds we hear in today's music. Some of the songs could have had less instrumentals and be tightened up a little. Best: I Wanna Be Adored Worst: I am the Resurrection

Pretty decent British pop album. There are times when it felt like 80s music and other times when they felt like an older band as well. The music felt like standard Brit pop that has been made for a while now. Not bad just standard. 6.4/10

I could never get into them.

Didn’t really stand out. Songs were monotonous

Reminded me why The Beatles are the most influential music group in human history, 3.5/5

Kerrassaan hieno levy. Menee the Smithsin ja Oasiksen väliin mukavasti. Ripaus komiikkaakin on upotettu kaiken vaihtoehtorokkailun ja -poppailun sekaan.

Decent album, not a huge fan of the vocals.

I walked into this album believing the Stone Roses to be a very overrated band with a lot of vapid meaningless songs in their back catalogue...

It’s ok

I’ve not taken nearly enough ecstasy to make this album more than just passable.

I listened to this for the first time about four or five months ago. It's not exactly my style, and it's kind of uneven, but I respect it for being one of those albums that was clearly an important stepping stone in music's evolution.

Track 1.) Decent album opener. Nice chilled rock vibe about it, should have listened to The Stone Roses much before now Track 2.) Definitely a overhyped song. Strays away a little bit from the rest of the album but an album has good and bad songs. Track 3.) Some would say Waterfall is kinda the same feel as She Bangs the Drum but there’s something about the guitar in this song that makes me like it compared to the one before. It might be that guitar riff where it tops She Bangs the Drum Track 4.) I can gather that they’re going for the rockstar approach on this track but it just doesn’t hit the mark with me. Track 5.) Completely different song. Nice acoustic feel to it probs one of my favourites of the album. Track 6.) Even more different, 50 seconds of fingerpicking guitar and a poem of lyrics to marry the two. Track 7.) Much better song compared to the first half of the album. More of an alternative tone to it. Really like this one. Track 8.) Again more alternative tone much better than first half of album. Ian Brown just knows what to write when it comes to writing lyrics. Nice little guitar solo aswell. Much better tone. Track 9.) I feel they take a lot of inspiration from 50s and 60s bands with this song and some parts it works and other not. But again nice guitar tone. Track 10.) This is the One starts all big to guitar and bass. Big kick drum and lyrics. Then into what I think the Stone Roses should be big drums and bass with the guitar just heard but rememberable creating a more rockstar feel about the song. Track 11.) Very 60’s, but brought into the 80’s and 90’s. Some of the songs work and some don’t. The instrument at the end brings it back and changes the whole aspect of the song for the better. Track 12.) Fools Gold. Classic I can perfectly see why so many people love this album and the success it had on release with Madchester I can’t fault it. But it’s just not my thing but am not against listening to The Stone Roses again and adding them to the playlist.

Just a whole lot of nothing. It's not awful but just nothing to it.

Really enjoyed it......3/4* ?

1. Chill rock 2. Rock and slight psychedelic 3. Super husky vocals 4. Mostly rock drums and fills 5. Distortion guitar riffs

I liked the album art. I thought I would like this as background chill rock music but it didn’t move me.

The first couple of songs were pretty great but then the album took a nose dive and I had a hard time getting with it.

honestly couldn't make up my mind on this one

Good solid rock. A bit ageless - this could easily be mid 90's, or mid 00's, or more recent. Some driving baselines in a few tracks made for a repeat listen.

Fairly cool album I hadn't heard - I can definitely hear the influence they had on Belle & Sebastian who I love, especially on She Bangs The Drums which sounds a lot like an early B&S track. Fool's Gold is a tune also, I'd heard it but didn't realise it was them, v. different to the rest of the album tho. Didn't find the album mind-blowing but it's pretty pleasant and an interesting early Brit-pop entry in between The Smiths and Oasis, Blur etc. with some interesting 1950s/60s influences that made me think of bands like The Zombies and The Turtles.

This is a real "album." It sets a nice consistent mood for an hour without ever jarring you out of that mood—even with a particularly catchy tune. An hour of "like" without any moments of "love." It does take me back to late 80s moody college dorm rooms, but I can't say I knew it in particular.

I've always thought that this was an overated album and have never listened to it intently. I still don't enjoy it that much but it has grown on me a little more!

Started kind of meh but after maybe the halfway point I started really getting into it.

Pretty good, seeing the time it was released. Reminds me of Turnover and other bands of the 2010s. Not entirely my cup of tea though

Can't believe this is the first time I ever heard this. Not at all what I was expecting and not a huge fan.

Well put together and varied. Surprisingly palatable.

Not bad!

It was all right but I think a lot of it was samey and a bit like listening to them having a jam session. A couple of good tunes however

Sounds like the Beatles doing new wave jangle rock. Pretty good and something I could get into with more time dedicated to it. Favorite tracks are “She Bangs The Drum” and “Made of Stone”.

// Favs: — Score: Strong 3

Great background music

It was ok? Was kinda distracted, didn't hold my attention

decent kind of pre-grunge combo Brit sound. Probably won't go back.

Gutes Album!

Strong solid

Nice, but far from extraordinary.

I’ve never heard of this band and didn’t recognize a single song. I liked it overall, but nothing really jumped out as amazing. Lots of reverb though. lol.

Kindof a bipolar album. 50% is pretty standard issue 80s Brit rock close to the Cure or the theme song to Pete & Pete. 50% is jangle with a dance beat, and its rad. I'd like 100% jangle dance. A whole album of it with seamless transitions between tracks. Just let it play and a whole hour breezes buy, feeling good, getting shit DONE at work, and GROOVIN. I most appreciate the last two songs for not being afraid to jam in circles for 9 minutes each. B

Quintessential Brit Pop. Pretty good, I liked the synthy 80's vibes that were going on

The Beatles, by My Bloody Valentine for most of the album. Cherry picked, some songs are fun, but overall it still feels a little too long with rare alternatives to the shoegazy, distant rock sound. Good guitarship comes to save your ears from sleepiness on most tracks tho and that's a good thing.

Sounded like the byrds or Dylan

Good but there wasn’t one song that really drew me in

02/09 - Today I worked on setting up details for the trims around the fume hoods, helping Vidula with miscellaneous tasks in the model, and coordination at the Drum Storage building (conversations during the break out meeting). The Stone Roses were a band I had not heard of before I received this album. I thought they had some great songs, my favorite being Made of Stone. The only issue I had with this band was the stage presence. The lead single seemed extremely boring and the songs are so slow I image a concert would be quite boring.

Disco popero suave bastante repetitivo.

ok. just ok.

Favourite track: I Wanna Be Adored

One of those classic albums that I had never really sat down around to listen. It's really good! Love how pre-90s it sounds.

jotenkin meh, ei oikein irtoa, perus taustamusakitarapoppia

Great album, the last song is shit though. [Song For My] Sugar Spun Sister and I Wanna Be Adored were the best. Don't Stop has a very KKB vibe.

I am the insurrection, fools gold

it was p good but didn't rly stand out

Good album, representative of this era of music. The end was very intense. Probably wouldn't listen again

Twas alright. I enjoyed it for what it is, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to listen to it.

Starts off ok (with " I want to be adored") but then gets a bit bland for me. The singing gets real soft and seems to be overtaken by the instrumentals. Then the songs tend not to distinguish themselves from each other, until "made of stone"(one of the final tracks on the album, which I enjoyed the most) and "this is the one" and " I am the resurrection ". The last 4 songs of the album really shine.

First time listening to it.

got through about half of it. Actually a pretty good mellow album - need to finish it...

I guess I have to be chalked up among those who find the extreme hype around this album baffling. I thought it was fine, I enjoyed listening to it well enough and didn't dislike any of it, but I also wasn't over the moon about any of it. A little soft and slack throughout. Certainly there is Madchester scene music I like better.

Was feeling it for a while but meh

Very interesting intro to rock, chill vibes but all the songs sound similar and drag on..? maybe im too young

That was quite a pleasant surprise. I was dreading listening to this, I have never been a fan and always wondered why so many seem to think The Stone Roses are amazing. I've had people try to convert me in the past, to no avail. This time round I rather enjoyed the listen. I probably wouldn't choose to put it on, but I am no longer cringing at the mere mention of the band. It was quite enjoyable.

There's a wistful sound here that is enjoyable but I don't think I would seek it out. Though I see wouldn't change the radio if any of these songs where on.

Prettyyyyy pretttyyyyy pretty good

OK album

Wikipedia says this is considered to be one of the greatest albums of all time. I'd never heard of THEM, much less IT, and can't agree. It's solid enough, but I compare it to what I listened to yesterday (Ziggy Stardust) and find it wanting. 3 stars.

Singers voice is soothing, almost nostalgic. Gives me soft, summery vibes. I dig.

Meh. Left very little impression, TBH. It's not bad by any means. It just doesn't do much that's new or interesting. I might need to give this one another try later.

Some brilliant songs. And some boring songs. Prefer Oasis.

Had a pretty strong start, but started falling off to the very end. It felt like a mix of alternative rock and psychedelic. While there were some seriously strong guitar licks that kept it going, the lyrics and stories that were being told didn't align. Towards the very end, it turned more jam band like, compared to the beginning which felt more like singles. The mesh didn't fit. Album Rank: 5.6 Favorite Song: She Bangs the Drums

I don't know, not my cup of tea.

It’s not really doing anything for me… I think if the singer did more than the bare minimum it’d be a fun album, many of the instrumentals are great.

A frustrating listen. I Wanna Be Adored starts so well, but then Ian Brown's voice kicks in and takes all the shine off. (Reminiscent of Tonight, Tonight by The Smashing Pumpkins in that respect). I Am The Resurrection is a wonderful song with a self indulgent funk-rock outro. The rest is a mixed bag, some of which I quite enjoyed but a lot of which irritated me. Two stars.

There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but I just found it incredibly boring. I genuinely had to force myself to listen to it twice and in those two hours I didn't connect with the music once.

Yikes this was boring and monotonous. The first track was a real struggle to get through and I think that was the single! The music was commonplace and the singing was lackluster.

Decent but boring

Not my thing, really. I’m not the right age. I don’t like the sound they make - guitars or vocals. Some good riffs and good songs though

I like a couple of the tunes on here... but not much else.

Lo he escuchado y ni me acuerdo de haberlo escuchado, so…

Aight vibes. The last song was a little unexpected.

Yay! More 80s British bull shit. You won’t make me quit MI6! No matter how hard you try or how much terrible British music you keep throwing at me, I ain’t going anywhere.

Unknown band. Decent R&R. Fair album.

I dont really like it

The definition of meh.

I wasn’t super impressed with this album but I didn’t hate it either.

Kind of boring

Playing one song from this on a long ride is fine, but it gets boring very quickly. Background effects are annoying.

Look at you pulling it out of the ditch at the last moment. Final track far & away the best of the bunch. Small handful of interesting bits sprinkled throughout. 2 stars

Incredibly boring. Saved from a 1 because at least it wasn't offensively bad.

Experimental. No es muy lo mío
