Reviews (page 4 of 13)
I don't care that these are like Kid A B sides, this is one of my favorite Radiohead albums. I even like it more than Kid A. I've heard people think the opposite but I think these songs go well together. And the whole album has a unique sound and feel to it.
I love the horns in “living in a glasshouse” it’s one of the best endings for an album- so classic. I love all the weird rhythm stuff in sardines and revolving doors. Drums in pyramid song make the tune. Morning bell is one of my favorite Radiohead songs - I love the contrast from the verse and choruses.
I don’t know this record as well as some of their others, but I’ll definitely be coming back to this one. Quintessential Radiohead, amazing songwriting and really interesting arrangements.
They are so good. Each album is a complete album and so different. No song pops out for me and I rarely go back and listen to this album but I think they get a 5 just for cohesion and production.

Yes. Just. Yes.
J'adore 4.85
Always have liked Radiohead and this album doesn’t disappoint.
Radiohead kan weinig verkeerd doen voor mij. Zalig album!
comfort album. a fave
Two thumbs up
It took me years to get into this record. I’d never really got anything they did after OK Computer, but You & Whose Army came on the radio one day and I got completely lost in it. Might be their best album. Maybe. Possibly.
Solid Radiohead.
A very interesting album. Good to just zone out to and listen with your eyes closed. A bit of a musical journey.
notes - oooooo ive been WAITING for radiohead - if not my #1 band theyre absolutely top 3 - this album is the other half of kid a - part of radiohead’s switch from rock to electronic influenced more experimental music - i could listen to this album any day at any time and enjoy it - pyramid song even brings in some jazz influence that becomes stronger on future releases fav - knives out - the descending guitar melody that wraps around itself with thoms desperate sounding vocals is such a perfect match least fav - life in a glasshouse - still a really good song but the weakest on here
GHOSSSST HORRRRRRR SESSSSSSSS
If I had to choose between Kid A or Amnesiac, I’d likely choose Kid A. Having said that, this companion album is good enough to be the pinnacle of any other band’s career. The presence of Pyramid Song alone is enough to eat it 5 stars, but Radiohead being Radiohead is not content with just that. This album, from the opening percussion of Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box to the languid Dixieland jazz of the closing track, covers an insane amount of sonic ground just like its predecessor
Super album after listening twice…
Imagine yourself in Radiohead's collective shoes as they worked on Amnesiac. They managed to follow up the titanic breakthrough of OK Computer with the otherworldly Kid A, and then here they are needing to find a way to follow up Kid A with an album that is neither a step backwards nor a facsimile of their previous work. And they fucking did it. Amnesiac is my least favorite out of the three albums, but it absolutely deserves its place on this list and among the greatest recorded albums of music history. It picks up where Kid A left off, but it does its own thing. While Kid A is ethereal, alien, and psychedelic, Amnesiac is far more ground. The Radiohead's anger and disillusionment show through more on this album. It's as if they thought releasing Kid A was going to change the course of the world in some way, and they created this album to tell everyone that they're disappointed that the world is still bullshit, but that that fact isn't going to stop them "After years of waiting, nothing came. And you realize you're looking in the wrong place" This album still gives me chills to this day. Easily a 5/5 5/5
Probably my 3rd or 4th favorite Radiohead album but still 5 stars for those with taste.
Combining the intensity of The Bends with the style of Kid A, this album truly breaks new ground for both Radiohead and music in general. Synthetic soundwaves create melody as Thom Yorke’s familiar voice croons brokenly in the background. This collection does have a few songs that probably can be skipped, but the standout tracks are Radiohead at their best. Standout songs are Pyramid Song and I Might Be Wrong.
great
this is very soothing to listen to. it gives me a sense of calmness i have not felt in a long while. automatic 5 stars for how soothing it is, another 5 for how good the music is in itself.
Master piece
Depressed, heavy, futuristic vibes ring out from track one. "You and whose army" really accentuates these emotions. It's as if the entire album could exist within both Blade Runner films.
An aural feast
A good album by one of my favorite bands, but not necessarily to the level of most of their catalogue. Still great compared to most other bands. 4.5/5
4.5 rounded up to 5 - hard to believe this isn't even in my top Radiohead albums and yet is so good
I hate that I like this
Somehow this isn’t in my Radiohead top 3. With most other bands this ranking would’ve meant a good but not GREAT album. That isn’t the case here. I would have liked for a couple of the tracks to be a bit more focused, but with Pyramid Song, Knives Out and Life in a Glasshouse appearing on this thing… Who actually gives a shit? Best: Pyramid Song / I Might Be Wrong / Knives Out Worst: Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors / Hunting Bears
Not huge on this. Realised that Geese sounds exactly like this. How have they got away with ripping this off. Specific rating - 3.7 Fav song - pyramid song Least fav- like spinning plates
seit dem letzten album ist mir radiohead sehr ans herz gewachsen. sehr schönes album wieder, You And Whose Army absoluter banger, Life In a Glasshouse sehr interessante komposition
Some really good songs, but some songs feel a little out of left field in a weird way. 4/5 for me
One point off for the Zionism
I have a lot of feelings about this album. I came in sure that out of all the Rafiohead albums, this one was a four. The Amnesiac version of Morning Bell feels unnecessary especially considering how good the Kid A version is. Like Spinning Plates is not essential at all. BUT, registering to this album after all this time, this isn't just Kid B. It stands on its own and contains some essential Radiohead songs ( Pyramid Song, Knives Out, I might Be Wrong, Life in a Glass House, etc). It's excellent, and is closer to a five, but I'll still give it a four due to a low point or two near the end. Also, they fucked up not including the trumpet solo at the beginning of Life in a Glass House. The extended version of the song with the trumpet solo is superior.
I'm not sure how this album was received at the time; I'm sure it was divisive. No obvious hits, slower tempo, more experimental. Wouldn't recommend as a way to introduce someone to Radiohead. But this album goes to show how great Radiohead is because musically it's delightful and their popularity didn't suffer from this bold album. 3.5
I love his voice. I wish more songs were like hunting bears. Some songs definitely surprised me including life in a glasshouse. I keep going back and forth between 3 and 4.
Good album for the morning if you want to take it easy. Has one of my favorite guitar riffs with I Might Be Wrong. Not their best but still good.
Not one that’s up there with my favourites from Radiohead but I do still enjoy it. Pyramid Song is up there with the very best songs they’ve recorded. Top Track - Pyramid Song
yeah good new radiohead for me, liked it
Really liked I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Dollars and Cents, and the jazz departure of Life In a Glass House. A very broody, yearning/lamenting kind of emotion behind everything here, has a rainy day feel but it was sunny out, maybe that hurt the rating here
Great album, Pyramid song 🔥
80/100. A good and thought-provoking album. Artful, slightly disorienting, and quietly powerful. While not every track lands with equal impact, the overall experience is immersive. It’s a record built on atmosphere and tension rather than hooks.
I enjoyed this way more than expected. Super soothing. Not a radiohead guy historically, but I've listened to two albums in the last two months that are making me start to question why I'm not listening to more
I was first introduced to this album in a college music theory class, when the professor played the final track as a rare example of polyphony in modern pop music. It’s an interesting point, and that track is still a favorite of mine. There are plenty of polyphonic compositions released in recent decades – but crucially, this is indelibly pop music. It’s a beautiful balance between convention and experimentation. Much of this is due to the talents and interests of the group, but when I hear songs like “I Could Be Wrong,” I think that maybe Radiohead are really just trying to be a dad rock band like Rush or Zeppelin, but they’re just too eccentric to pull it off.
This was a slow burn for me. Started as I would expect a post "Kid A" Radiohead would. Tracks 3 and 4 disconnected me from the album for a bit, I found myself listening just to get through it..and then "I Might Be Wrong" brought me back to the heavy bass and overdriven guitar that I come to look forward to in Radiohead's music. From that point on, each track left me satisfied and ready for more. Great, cohesive album. This project continues to prove me wrong about Radiohead.
Solid
wish i could listen to it for the first time again when i didnt understand half the things thom yorke said t may not be the band's most experimental work, but it contains some of their most creative recordings, and i think it is a sonic statement that reflects the potential of the ideas they work with the choice of sounds, the production, and the influences shown in this album reinforce the feeling of uncertainty, of being lost, and of difficulty in putting together the pieces of a fragmented memory to achieve a clearer picture, a concept that works very well and that, despite being in the title, is often overlooked despite not being able to rationalize its flaws, i still feel it needs a little push to reach five stars
Oooh Radiohead, another critic and general public darling, whom I've never actually listened to a full album before now. Well, this is as good a start as any! Yorke's wailing vocals are mostly all the right amounts of devastating, but other times grating to the ears. The album straddles the line between artistic and meandering, but thankfully that directionless-ness was usually more hypnotising than stagnating. Overall, "Amnesiac" is an impressive and technically interesting showing of experimental rock!
Overall: 4.27 (rounded to 4) Consistency: 4.09 Originality: 4.5 Enjoyment: 5 Virtuosity: 3.5 1. Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box - 5 2. Pyramid Song - 5 3. Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors - 4 4. You and Whose Army - 4 5. I Might Be Wrong - 4 6. Knives Out - 5 7. Morning Bell/Amnesiac - 4 8. Dollars and Cents - 4 9. Hunting Bears - 3 10. Like Spinning Plates - 3 11. Life in a Glasshouse - 4
favs: pyramid song, you and whose army?, i might be wrong, knives out
No 5s tho
I've always associated this as one work with Kid A so it's interesting to listen on its own. Morning Bell is a beautiful song ... overall I prefer Kid A slightly but this is still a great album.
I can see why some folks say Amnesiac is full of Kid A’s leftovers. Would they feel different if Amnesiac had come first? Hmm. Anyway, both “Pyramid Song” and “Knives Out” are outrageously good. I love this album. 4.5?
A strange album compared to Kid A. But still better than latest Radiohead albums
this is a classic
COOL
Gorgeous and wide, expensive and interesting record. I just think sometimes the experimentation does not work for me, it's titters on annoying versus interesting, but in a very manageable way too. A good diversity of sounds, and a vision
Skide godt radiohead album
Just a good atmospheric album with some great tracks. Is definitely not anywhere near my top Radiohead album, but still think it’s great. More of a fan of their bends and ok computer era.
Radiohead.
I'm running out of things to say about Radiohead. I like them, but at 900+ albums I've listened to enough Radiohead for a while. This isn't their best release, but I appreciated the toned down soundscapes.
Sweet. Heel atmosferisch
i think this album requires to have a more mature palate towards music. I say that, cuz, i remember listening to it some years before, and it was such a different experience from now: felt boring and weird. But after listening to some of the genres this album is clearly inspired, and after dipping my toes on making music, it's noticeable how hard is making music and how hard is making electronic music the way they did here. What i mean is that it's easy to listen to some rock group made an album with electronic elements, some electro-pop or synths. But I think Radiohead made an album with some songs that are primarily experimental electronic music with some rock sounds and instruments. It's clear with the use of these textured and complex sounds that feel primordial and the center of interest on most of the songs. It feels like such a logical and better version of OK Computer, or KID A in the sense that here is a full immersion in that electronic sound. Besides that, i really dig the nocturnal vibe and thematic here. Is obviously melancholic and sad, like other albums from them. But more than that, feels somewhat minimalistic and more personal in its sounds. More close. I must say, i probably prefer other albums from them. But this one is a shocker under the new lens of perspective, time and experience.
My radiohead ratings are all over the place. I really really like this. I actually prefer it to Kid A, which i think is controversial. I think its prefer Hail to the Thief, which i also think is controversial. But I like it alot. The last track with the clarinet or whatever the fook is bonkers. Great High 4, eventually higher
This was the last Radiohead album I really loved, and I didn't love it as much as Kid A so it felt like a slight disappointment to me at the time. The high points were basically as high for me, but I didn't like this album's weaker tracks/moments as much as I liked the weaker ones on Kid A. After this I liked each subsequent Radiohead album less than the previous one, to the point where I don't even check out their new music anymore. (From my Hail to the Thief review a few months ago: "I remember this album as the one where I realized I no longer LOVED everything Radiohead released, for the first time since Pablo Honey. I didn't hate or even dislike this one, I just didn't love it and have felt pretty much the same about everything they've released since then, which seems insane that it was 23 years ago now.")
I'd say I enjoyed the later parts of the album more than the beginning. Feel like I always hear about pyramid song but did not find that the highlight of this project. All those chromatic mediants, the sliding strings, distant muffled sounds and stereo usage along with the surrealistic lyrics really do leave an impression of emptiness and amnesia.
I like it
this is actually one of the only radiohead albums i HADN'T listened to in full. thought the sounds on here were very interesting, first three songs especially. i imagine most of this would be sick live, wish i was around at release for it
You know, I was a religious fan of Radiohead back in highschool. I tended to drift toward the more obscure releases and for a while was a huge fan of albums like Amnesiac and TKOL. Over the years I've broadened my musical pallate, and while I still rate the band highly in general, their output is in no way perfect. Amnesiac, to me, sounds like leftovers from both OK Computer and Kid A with a couple of novel tracks mixed in. Individual songs have the 90s rock aesthetics of the former and the electronic tinge of the latter. The songa with heavy piano use tend to be the most stand out. All that to say I really enjoy the album, but it is less impressive than some of their other works.
I'm a big fan of this band admittedly. This album is a bit of a dip for me though. Knives Out is the highlight. A few other songs are solid but there is a bit of dead weight. A few interesting ideas that are not entirely fleshed out. 3.5/5 rounded to 4.
Solid 3.7 / 5
Hadn’t listened to this one. I like Kid A (the part 1 of this) a bit better but maybe that’s just because I’ve listened to it a lot. This is probably objectively a 5 but it’s a 4 rn for me thank you thank you.
When I first got into Radiohead, I was a bit adverse to their electronic leaning records. But, the more I listen to them, the better they get. While this one has a few tracks that aren't great for listening to on their own, when listened to in the context of the flow of the record as a whole, it's great. Highlights: "Pyramid Song", "You and Whose Army?", "I Might Be Wrong" and "Like Spinning Plates"
Okay at this point I expect to get all but two, maybe three of Radiohead albums. I do think Amnesiac is a great album, but for as strong as it starts it gets kind of boring by the end. I'd say it's comparable to Hail to the Thief, which maybe doesn't have as many really solid stand out songs as Amnesiac does, it's a more cohesive album from start to finish. Those two are probably going to be the worst rated of the Radiohead albums that are on this list because they simply don't compare to the likes of OK Computer, Kid A, The Bends, or In Rainbows. I remember hearing that Amnesiac was almost like the b-sides to Kid A, or that it would function better if they were released as a double album set. I kind of agree with that sentiment. The two together are a masterpiece but when you put them side by side Amnesiac doesn't compare to Kid A even though they're very similar.
Strong 4
I loved this when it came out, it was nice to revisit. Favorite songs: I Might Be Wrong, Pyramid Song,
yaaaaay radiohead yaaaay yaaay
I kind of struggled with this one because I like probably 5 or 6 Radiohead albums better than this. It's hard not to grade on a Radiohead Curve. With that said, there are still a lot of really good songs like Pyramid Song and Knives Out. I enjoyed revisiting it.
Finally... Kid B. Of all the Radiohead albums on this list, Amnesiac is definitely the most redundant of all to include, knowing its history. Amnesiac is basically the leftover album for Kid A. It's like "The Final Cut" to Kid A's "The Wall" or the "Steal This Album!" to Kid A's "Toxicity" for all the Pink Floyd or System of a Down fans out there. However, there's nothing wrong with leftovers if everything goes right. As long as the food was good originally, isn't expired, and is reheated properly, leftovers can still be really freakin' good. Amnesiac is really freakin' good. It's not Kid A levels of good, obviously, but it's still great. The electronic sound that made Kid A so special is still here, but Amnesiac feels more cold than Kid A. The atmosphere is more... claustrophobic for many of the songs, especially the opener "Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box." Other than that, yeah it's Kid A 2: Electric Boogaloo. Not the best sequel on the planet, but the core is still there and the album absolutely has its highlights. "Pyramid Song" is genuinely up there with Kid A's best songs in terms of quality. I also really love the three song string of "You And Whose Army?," "I Might Be Wrong," and "Knives Out." Not every song is a winner. Some of the songs near the end just kinda happen and I'm really not huge on "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors," but even the worst stuff here is still good. It really says a lot that an album like this that's generally seen to be among Radiohead's weaker releases is still as good as it is. Radiohead really were at an unreal level of talent in their prime. So yeah, Amnesiac is good and I will not accept any slander of this album. Strong 4/5.
RADIOHEAD ARE SUCH SUPER FUN!!! (also, as usual, it sounds great)
Nice!
cooooll
I fell in love with Kid A when it came out so when this album dropped I was disappointed. This album is where I stopped listening to radiohead thinking they had peaked creatively over their first few albums. Recently I have gone back and listened to the albums I missed out on from newest to oldest. I was wrong, they did not peak, they just kept the great albums coming . This album is probably still my least favorite but I enjoy it more today than I did all those years ago. Glad I got back into radiohead.
i dont think this is much weaker than kid a. people got fatigued maybe?
Amazing wow
I've never listened to Radiohead that much because something about the idea of being a Radiohead fan sounds annoying and embarrassing, so I was surprised that I actually liked this quite a lot. I only ended up saving the first track, some song title that mentions sardines, on my main current playlist, but the rest was good too. It's less generic than I expected, I don't think I will ever be very passionate about this band but they're not bad.
I’m not a big fan of theirs but I do like this record
4.1 it took me several listens to get into at the time admittedly, but when it sinks in it leaves you extremely fulfilled. Starts off extremely well, the two openers are phenomenal. Admittedly a slight dip with Pulk/Pull, but I can appreciate that more since getting a lot more into experimental electronica in the last two decades. After that there are several standouts - I Might be Wrong, Morning Bell, Spinning Plates. Even my formerly least favourite track on the album, the closer, got a new lease of life when it was used extremely well as the closer of a Peaky Blinders episode. Might be the 6th best Radiohead album, but still a fantastic offering. Not many bands can say that.
Good to work to
Niet mijn favo Radiohead, maar oerdegelijk
Nice, but the songs are not as memorable as on Kid A or OK Computer.
More experimental than some of the others. Pyramid song is one of their best songs.
Great.
Lovely listen!
It's Radiohead, it's good. Not their finest of course, but no complaints. Fave track: You and Whose Army?
Would have to be amongst the greatest B-sides of all time. More of a companion album to Kid A than anything else. 4/5
*Pyramid song I might be wrong Knives out
Radiohead may be the most creative, inventive band of their generation. Amnesiac is one of their most boundary-pushing albums, full of chilly textures and electronic experiments. But is it one I would put on again and again? -- no.
A really difficult one to grade. This would be a five star album for almost any other artist in the world. The experimentation, crazy effects, unique song structures, and wild swings of creativity show Radiohead pushing almost every boundary. Yet, you can’t help but notice all the best songs from this era still ended up on kid A.
Art rock igjen. Top 3: Like In a Glasshouse, Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong
Pretty good. All Radiohead albums are Radiohead albums and this one is no different.
Less interesting than Kid A. More on the electronic side (or just felt like it?). Some highlights: - Pyramid song - I Might be wrong - Knives Out - Morning Bell
I like it, kinda short tho
radiohead second album lol ,l makes me feel like i'm in a movie
Decent
Really great album, musically. No hits though.
4.5/5. During the Kid A sessions, Radiohead recorded enough material for a double album but opted to cut down to a more standard length record, becoming 2000’s Kid A. however in 2001 we’d get to hear a lot of those cut tracks in the form of the sister-record Amnesiac. And honestly, I think Amnesiac is better than Kid A. Takes the electronics from those sessions but makes it feel much more claustrophobic, leading to a record that often feels slightly unsettling. This unease is felt best on songs like “dollars and cents” or “Like Spinning Plates.” And there’s of course “Pyramid Song” which is a moment of beauty on the album in what feels like an odd time signature but actually isn’t. When the drums finally kick in on that song it’s fantastic. Another highlight for me is the closer “Life in a glasshouse” which sees the band take in some jazz influence leading to a song that sounds like nothing else in their catalogue. Fantastic record overall, only weak spot is maybe the interlude tracks (pulk/pull revolving doors an hunting bears.)
cool
6.5/10 Not my thing but decent
Nice.
Not as good as Kid A but still very interesting and good
It's a fine Radiohead album. That's it, really. Not bad by any means, but it really is just 'Kid B'. 8.5/10
Some weird songs, but radiohead is always amazing.
A number of absolute belters packed into the middle section, though it lacks the spark of the albums that came before and after.
This album is a Radiohead 4, which is like a California 8. The highlights of the album (Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army, I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Life In A Glass House) are absolutely stellar - beautiful and at times haunting, and up there with some of Radiohead's best work. In many ways it would feel like a more natural transition between OK Computer and Kid A, but then again that would take away from the WTF moment of hearing Kid A for the first time. If I'm being super critical, the track ordering feels slightly off. There's maybe one too many album tracks, and they either hit too early and break the stride (Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors") or too close together and late on (Hunting Bears and Like Spinning Plates) which makes it feel like the album tails off, and kind of maroons Life In A Glass House. Having heard the live version of Like Spinning Plates I kinda wish they had used a piano based version.
Ooh very nice but not as good as like OK Computer
I should really listen to Radiohead more. I know I’d like them a lot. This album is a bit repetitive, but it’s incredibly atmospheric. It sets a mood and totally submerges the listener in it, in such a cool way. They kind of feel like soundtracks in a way because of that. That’s neither a compliment nor a criticism, just an observation. Yeah, this album is good. I guess my biggest criticism is that, like I mentioned before, it gets repetitive at times. And Radiohead has better stuff than this.
It's Kid A, but sinister.
Shoutout kid amnesiac exhibition
Better than I remembered. There's some all-timers, 1 or 2 songs that didn't need to be there, and a sequencing issue.
This is Comedown Machine by the Strokes, but better. Literally, you and whose army sounds like Life is simple in the moonlight(which is angles but whatever). Ethereal. The lyrics, the electronics, and the genre mixing. Hunting bears with its country sound and 60s guitar, it sounds like The Last of Us. I read online that pulk pull is like hated. I kinda like it, I like the similarity and the atmosphere. I would only listen to this in an album setting, but I love the way the music flickers. I think this might be my favorite Radiohead album. I really like this. The lyrics stutter; the album's concept and vibe is very well curated. It does feel like memory loss, and the last track really pulls it all together about the state we are in, and you can never forget to stay alert because you are not safe.
1–cool track. v cool track. I wouldn’t listen to it casually, but it’s a pretty cool sound and different/more electronic than other radiohead songs I know. i feel like if I were trapped on an infinite plane, this is what would be playing as I wander around aimlessly. but the kind of plane in that old cgi simpsons episode with 3D homer. 2–yummy piano. delectable vocals by mr thom yorke. wow so pretty sounds like ok computer a lil bit. BEAUTIFUL instrumental im in love. 3–hmmm… 6–beautifully beautiful goregeous guitar beautiful sound and melody so mellow im in love 8–weird but in a cool way 11–fav track by far. brass instruments are so freaking cool I love them so much. so beautiful and a wonderful end.
The first Radiohead album on this list, what a great day this is. I am surprised at its inclusion, but I'm very happy that this gave me another reason to listen to this; an album that I definitely have overlooked. Its wonderfully dark and unsettling throughout, with the most creepy/macabre lyrics of any Radiohead album. The first 6 tracks are all fantastic in their own crazy ways, and the closer is maybe my favourite of all, with it's awesome saxophone accompaniment. There are a few tracks that don't quite hit for me so I can't be giving this a 5*, but it's remarkably close and definitely an overlooked album in their discography. Favourites: Packt Like Sardines In A Crushd Tin Box Pyramid Song I Might Be Wrong Life In A Glasshouse
Never listened to it as an album. I looked at it as the lesser follow-up album to Kid A. Loved On Life in a Glasshouse with Humphrey Lyttleton. 1 song added to playlist.
Radiohead is one of my all time favorite bands. I remember when this album came out. I hated it. It was pretty quick after Kid A which to this day is my favorite album of theirs and possibly top 3, at least top 10 album released in my lifetime (born in late 83). It was hard to deal with Amnesiac after the roll they were in with since OK Computer, but with time I felt it matured very well and I found liking almost every single song by themselves. Packt Like Sardines, Pyramid Song and Dollars & Cents are my favorites, specially Packt, one of my favorites from them in general. Remember Knives Out and I might be wrong from listening to the radio back in the day. You can cover many genres with each song, melow, electronic, jazzy, instrumental, rock, indie/jangle. I love it, not perfect, but could have been.
Great album
Different and pretty dang good
Kid A's even weirder little sibling. Amnesiac has some fantastic ideas on it, and sounds great with headphones. Pack Like Sardines, Pyramid Song, Morning Bell are all great. I love the experimentation inspired by everyone from Aphex Twin on Pulk/Pull to Miles Davis on Life in a Glasshouse here. My only critique is that sometimes songs are a little too skeletal- I know thats kind of the point, but a few tracks sound really cool but dont develop into something dynamic like Radiohead's best.
Sometimes there is time in my life when I rediscover Knives out and the I play it on repeat whole week or month. I still haven't gotten bored of it. I love Knives out. I wish I could put this song in my weins to carry it around with me for my whole life. And then the rest of the album is just good. I don't really like electronic sounding songs on this alum but there are another stand outs like Pyramid song, which I absolutely adore, I might be wrong, Dollars and cents and Life in glasshouse. This alum is 7/10 for me. I love Radiohead. But i like their earlier more alternative rock sounding grunge-like albums than these later electronics ones.
Just listened to this the other day. Great one.
3.5
Certainly not my favourite Radiohead album, but it's good, not 5 star good, probably not even 4 star good, but it's better than a 3 star album. If I could give it 3.5 stars I would. Thom Yorke has an amazing voice, so that rounds it up to a 4.
I do like me some Radiohead!
Pulk/Pull Revolving Door, Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army?
My first time listening to amnesiac and i actually loved it. The eletronics on this one are so good!
I don’t know whether it’s just the context but this, despite not being high up on a lot of Radiohead lists, has landed best with me. Wandering through a post-industrial city on a grey day, this just seems to work. Some of those textures are just perfect! Special shout out to the closer _Life in a Glasshouse_ which is brilliant and a close second to my fave track, _Pyramid Song_
With Kid A and Amnesiac, Radiohead clearly wanted to move away from the conventional song format that they had mastered on The Bends and OK Computer. This is almost jazz and i have to admit that i was bit disappointed to these records when they were released, but since then they've grown on me. Especially the 3 record compilation of Kid A, Amnesiac and left overs from that period is perfect in all it's grandiose. So in this case surprisingly 'more is more', and the 3 album package rates 5/5 whereas single albums don't quite match that.
Enjoyed the album. Not my favorite Radiohead. But still good.
Gotta love Radiohead. Really original sound.
Actually didn’t listen yet
Can definitely tell that this is the leftovers from Kid A, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I did really enjoy kid A, definitely is a weaker album however but not by a lot Feels less "cinematic" than Kid A did and that there is more of a focus on the lyrics If this album is just kid B like a lot of people say, I'm surprised the Pyramids got left off the first release (4/5)
Tranqui
I love the downbeat, broody, experimentalism of this record but it never really occurs to me to put it on. In my memory, it's a long, slow, indulgent, trudge, but listening again now, there are some real highs. Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army?, and the spectacular Knives Out, really leapt out at me. I'd kind of forgotten how good this record is. I've always loved how Radiohead have ploughed their own furrow - they're not always an easy listen and that they seem to push the boundaries and remain so successful is as thrilling as it is mystifying.
Ah Radiohead. Tällä superhyvii biisejä ku Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, Knives Out, I Might Be Wrong... Vähän tällasta konemaisempaa Radioheadia mut ihanaa.
listening to anything by Radiohead is such a special experience
Great
"i like this sound of this album but kinda want an entire track where thom talks about doors in a weird voice" I'm not sure if this is the most accessible Radiohead album for the masses. I can imagine the people coming to this from The Bends and going "what did I just drop $15 on??" I think Pyramid Song goes kinda crazy, and that's maybe all you need to get out of it.
In my opinion the worst Radiohead album. Still 4/5
Wow I love Radiohead
Unfortunately, I liked it.
I like this actually. It sounded kinda melancholic.
Me me like it
Once again, different from what I expected. Ok, some songs where "weird" in the Radiohead style I knew, but there were some songs that were much easier to like from the first listen. And I heard things that made me want to hear the album again.
Will be listening to again
4.1/5 Stars Top Songs: Life in A Glasshouse, Pyramid Song, Knives Out
I don‘t like every Song on the record, still find it outstanding. Fav: Pyramid Song
An excellent but not quite as good companion to Kid A
This was an enjoyable listening experience while I relaxed in bed. Pretty depressing music for the most part. It's the best time to listen to this one. Will put you to sleep in a nutshell. But don't wait til the last song with the blaring horns.
Thom Yorke sounds like an unreasonable man though he claims otherwise on the first track of - what’s this album called? He’s at the end of his rope on Pyramid Song, but that’s okay, because the piano takes care of him. I am always hesitant to start listening to Radiohead. The music is so complex, and I don’t always want to think too deeply when I listen to an album. But somehow, as I listen to this, it sounds familiar- like OK Computer or Kid A. Yes, I heard and appreciate those, but never gave Amnesiac a fair chance. I’m glad I did. This album holds its own in the Greatest Albums list, just not as high as the aforementioned masterpieces. 5 stars? YES FIVE STARS.
Pretty great.
Surprised to see the sixth best Radiohead album on this list.
I'm not sure how to rate this. The whole album seemed to ride the line between music and noise. There's some talent, but it's definitely overrated.
I'll give the benefit of the doubt because I haven't actually heard Kid A yet. Maybe I'm missing something, but I wasn't blown away. I had really high expectations and they just weren't met. There are solid tracks, great vocals and eerie sounds throughout which keep the album interesting. It's very solid. This wouldn't be my first choice of a Radiohead album though.
Somber, emotional, with styles ranging from IDM, to blues. A definitive album in the Radiohead discography
Not my favorite by them, but still solid Pyramid Head is one of their best songs, and I love the jazztronic vibes
Subdued, jagged and despairing, this is an album which lines right up with its cover art.
Finally, a new album from Radiohead in this list. I had heard the album before and was excited to hear it again. Well, it was very good, but I expected more. Too bad. 4/5
I have no idea how to rate a Radiohead album other than to say, “it’s fantastic and strange and upsetting and I want to hear it again.” This album is less explosive and experimental than Kid A and OK Computer - quieter is not quite the right word - but it still hums and pierces my listening like an existential bee zipping around my head. Favorites: Pyramid Song, Morning Bell, Like Spinning Plates
what can I say I like radiohead
yeah
Radiohead, Amnesiac ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Album #10. My first Radiohead album on the list, and probably one I’m least familiar with. I’m a big Radiohead fan and I love most of their music. I would question the inclusion of this album on the list, despite it being very very good, as it’s essentially an outtakes album from the Kid A sessions. It does feel like that in a lot of ways. It doesn’t feel as cohesive as some of their other projects, but why would it? It’s not really a full blown studio album in the same sense. It gets four stars because it doesn’t reach the level of consistency of their other masterpieces like OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows. That said, it absolutely does reach those heights at times, particularly with Pyramid Song. This is as good a song as any I’ve ever heard in my life, and might possibly be their best ever. It’s a very top heavy album. The first half is absolute spectacular and includes a lot of their staples. Radiohead at their best. Funnily enough, this period is often seen as their departure from guitar rock, but this album actually has loads of guitar on it, and whenever it appears it sounds incredible and fits the tone perfectly. I Might Be Wrong has an absolutely crunching riff, and something about the guitar interplay on Knives Out reminds me of In Rainbows and even parts of The King of Limbs outtakes, like it was pointing towards where they’d go later. The second half undoubtedly drops off. I wouldn’t call it filler, because by definition it isn’t, these are outtakes. But anything from Dollars and Cents onward doesn’t really do it for me. Life in a Glasshouse is clearly a complete song, but it’s not a personal favourite, even though I know some people love it. Finally, this album is dark. Dark as a pitch black night. It’s probably their darkest record, even darker than Kid A. There’s no Optimistic here. It’s bruisingly bleak. I really enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to more Radiohead as the list goes on.
An interesting album but just not as interesting when you compare it to other Radiohead albums.
Yes, it does sound like Kid A b-sides, the ones too experimental to reach consensus on putting on the A album. Some experiments are interesting, some foreshadow some dead ends the band got stuck down later... 3.75
Not hooking me. Fine for background. First song is interesting tho.
This album is gorgeous. There are very few weak songs, and the first two opening tracks are some of the most intricate stuff I've heard from this band. I would say the album is underrated, but when you are competing with Four Horsemen of Kid A, OK Computer, In Rainbows and Moon Shaped Pool, you are appreciated enough just by being lumped together on ocassion. I was really lucky that the two of the first three albums on this site were from some of my favorite bands of all time. While Radiohead is a specific band to say the least, which is to say they are not an everyday listen, the impact they leave once you discover them is pretty significant. I believe I have never heard the vocal and musical innovations being as interesting and heart-wrenching as with these guys. I firmly believe they are one of the best artists of the past century, and cannot wait for their next masterpiece. Until them, ocassional relisten is all we can really do.
In true Radiohead fashion, you should be high or depressed listening to this. If your not, you are now.
Pyramid song, Knives Out are standouts in a mixed bag.
I'm going to listen to some more Radiohead. They seem to be quite controversial, with their listeners having strong opinions each way.
Not one of their best albums but would listen again. I love Radiohead
This has really grown on me as I’ve sat with it for a while. Still a little too whiny for my taste, but I really like the sparseness and the groovy, jazzy elements. 4/5 Highlights: - Packt Like Sardines In a Crushd Tin Box - You And Whose Army? - I Might Be Wrong - Hunting Bears - Life In a Glasshouse
9/10. good songs
What I love about Radiohead is how the instrumentals so effectively reflect the mood of the lyrics and Yorke’s voice. It creates such a depth to the music that enables it to Really Take You There. This album is a great example of that and I enjoyed being in my feels for an hour. Pyramid Song/Life in a Glasshouse were highlights for me and I loved the switch up at Knives Out; it served to pull me back into the album when my brain started to wander.
This had such a soothing opening. I love those little flickering electronic beats and pyramid song is so good. It is very kid a: the sequel, but that’s pretty good for me and it for sure reminded me of how good Everything In Its Right Place sounded in the cinema during 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (I know wrong album). I will admit listening in the bush was maybe not the ideal location and the second half didn’t stand out much to me but it was nicely atmospheric in the vein of sigur ros
Given that these were the songs NOT picked for the excellent Kid A and therefore can be thought of as cutoffs (I know that’s not how they’d think of it but still), this is a pretty great effort. Radiohead are at their best when they lean into this mish-mash of different genres and they were at the peak of their powers during this era.
Not their best work. Definitely better than most of the albums on this list though.
A good album, I liked Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong and Morning Bell/Amnesia the most.
Its a 5 star album with a janky end that is always slightly jarring to listen to
Good album but not their best
Please stop crying in small constellations, little man. Even though I love Radiohead, this album didn’t fully land for me. That said, it’s not completely fair to say I didn’t like it, because I still gave it an 8/10. Some tracks like "Pulk / Pull Revolving Doors" and "Hunting Bears" honestly feel like they should’ve stayed in the studio bin. Still, there are some genuinely great songs here. "Pyramid Song", "Dollar & Cents", and "I Might Be Wrong" do a lot of heavy lifting and make the album an enjoyable listen overall. For me, this sits in Radiohead’s bottom three albums. Solid, but far from their best. 8/10.
very beautiful and underrated
Bizarre
e bas mi je ovo dobro bilo, bas ima smisla ime albuma, nekako dobro opisuje osecaj izgubljenosti, paranoje, melanholije nzm bas mi bilo dobro

Radiohead is one of my favourite bands of all time. This, however isn’t an album I know very well. I don’t think I have listened to the album from start to finish more than one time before(?) It’s from their experimental phase with a lot of different expressions. I think some of the songs are great, and a a few are more forgettable. All together a good album, but far from their best one. Why they made a new and soulless version of Morning Bell has always baffled me. Favourite songs: I Might Be Wrong, Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army, Knives Out, Packt Like Sardines In a Crushd Tin Box.
It’s radio head, the musical equivalent of family guy funny moments.
love Radiohead though this isn't my favourite. It really is great on a long drive. At least 4.
Ok, Radiohead were a band that I thought were overrated back in the day. Now I think I've grown to appreciate them a bit more. They certainly have a fairly unique sound. This was a good album to be listening too while I was working on SharePoint library permissions. Kind of a jazz feel. Nothing particularly stood out but it was a good experience overall.
200/1001 Radiohead - Amnesiac Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ✅ When I first heard this and Kid A together, I found this a lot harder to get into. It's more of a standoffish record and requires patience with its often cold and glacial sound. However, the more I listen to it, the more and more I appreciate it and its experimental nature.
I wasn’t that familiar with the Kid A/Amnesiac period of Radiohead’s discography, but I had a general picture. Amnesiac is beautiful, lonely, and immersive. It’s been a minute between listening and now writing this review but I’ll be returning.
Good album, not the best Radiohead but thats a pretty high bar
i really liked this album. not my favorite of theirs and not my usual listen, but it’s an album that i think captures me. also this album came out 12 days before i was born. really nice to know our birthdays are close.
Benoit Blanc mention
Wisselend.
Not their best album but still a strong project. There are a few that just don’t hit for me but there are plenty of bangers on here.
Idk why I don’t listen to more Radiohead I thoroughly enjoyed this album - my first time sitting down and actually selecting them by choice
vaime rogor gamixarda radiohead. ar vicodi es album da momewona, dzaan didi msmeneli ar viyo axla mara sxva albumebs ar gavs mgoni???? idk mara momewona
Liked the album as a whole piece, saved maybe 3 songs in my favorites
A rasgos generales brutal, vibras postapocalipticas.
Last song is cool, good length.
It’s hard to describe Radiohead’s post-modern progressive rock. Is it jazz? Techno? Ambient noise? Rejected ideas from Yoko Ono? Yes, and it’s fantastic. Nobody does what Radiohead does and nobody else should. We really don’t need any more of this.
It’s basically worse kid a and the worst Radiohead album on here.
First Radiohead I’ve listened all the way through.
eclectic amalgamation of sonic waves. pretty odd vibes but i like it and i think there are some bangers. not my fav radiohead tho, still good however.
Definitely in the "I appreciate this, but don't love it" category of Radiohead albums.
Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box, Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army?, I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Morning Bell / Amnesiac, Like Spinning Plates Menos favoritas: Pulk / Pull Revolving Doors, Dollars & Cents
I really enjoyed the different styles they use. I enjoy the different ways they incorporate electronic and rock.
Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box - 4/5 Pyramid Song - 4/5 Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors - 2.5/5 You And Whose Army? - 4/5 I Might Be Wrong - 5/5 Knives Out - 4.5/5 Morning Bell/Amnesiac - 3.5/5 Dollars and Cents - 3.5/5 Hunting Bears - 3/5 Like Spinning Plates - 3.5/5 Life In a Glasshouse - 4/5 A very dark and melancholic album that feels like its the rejects leftover from Kid A, but in a good way. Thematically the album's more of a collage than having a cohesive throughline, but it still manages to make it work. Definitely not one of Radiohead's strongest albums but still a good album nonetheless Overall: 4/5 Favorites: I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out
Strong first quarter. I can appreciate the sound and their presence. Easy listen.
I’m not in the mood to listen to Radiohead. Thom Yorks voice is very specific
Clásico de Radiohead
Great album from Radiohead. Doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessor but still wonderful album front to back. 8/10 Favorite tracks- “Packt Like Sardines…” I Might Be Wrong” “Dollars & Cents”
#229/1001. I've always liked Radiohead, but never been their fan. Does that make sense? Does it matter? Does Radiohead matter? Does it make sense? Does life make sense? This review doesn't. Typical reactions to radiohead? Perhaps, but time has also caught them. Nevertheless, good memories.
January 3, 2026
I’m not a giant fan really, but it’s hard to argue that this isn’t pretty great.
reminds me of matt reeves batman, first two immediate existential dread banger, arcane soundtrack
Radiohead have so many amazing albums, this one has a couple of my favourites songs, tracks 2 & 5, ‘pyramid song’ and ‘I might be wrong’. They capture a hypnotic layered sound that flows smoothly with unexpected quirks. Thank you Radiohead!
Listening to this album while there's snowing outside such a perfect match
While not my favourite Radiohead album, it still has (long) moments of absolute awesomeness. I might be wrong and Knives out are the songs I liked the most. Morning bell/Amnesiac is a masterpiece.
Haunting and probably not my personal favorite from Radiohead but I do like it
My first time hearing this record. Dark, entrancing, and unnerving. I loved it. There were moments, while listening on headphones, that the way they mixed the album really caught me off guard and took me on a journey through forgotten dreamscapes and dystopian nightmares. Never cared much for this band before, but so far, each Radiohead record this project has presented to me has changed my opinion of them and intrigued me more than expected. Killer album.
Very melancholic, a bit experimental, time flew by while listening. Good for staring at ceilings or out of windows. Would give 3.5☆ if possible.
All the Drum machine stuff is good but the song ahh songs idk about Krautrock Mingussian Deep fried electronica Pulk/Pull favorite track
Gitarrerna, rösten .... Stark fyra
𝘈𝘮𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘤 feels like a companion to the more radical shift of 𝘒𝘪𝘥 𝘈, but with its own, slightly more fragmented personality. The album leans into disorientation and blurred emotion, using jazz-tinged textures, uneasy electronics and brittle rhythms to create a world that feels both intimate and alien. 𝘗𝘺𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘥 𝘚𝘰𝘯𝘨 is the clear centerpiece — a slow, tidal swell of piano and strings that turns weightlessness into something spiritual and devastating. While the record doesn’t have the same unified impact as 𝘒𝘪𝘥 𝘈, its scattered, dreamlike structure is part of its charm. It’s a collection of ideas that feel haunted rather than polished, connected more by mood than by coherence. A weaker sibling to 𝘒𝘪𝘥 𝘈, maybe — but still a deeply compelling one.
Solid Radiohead that I’ve never heard before
I bought this album and was underwhelmed by it. Then I saw them live a couple of months later and it all clicked. (Seriously, Radiohead are incredible live.) However, if someone put forward an argument that if you’ve got Kid A on the list, you don’t need Amnesiac too, I’m not sure I’d have much of a rebuttal.
I’ve been possibly unreasonably turned off by Radiohead. It’s another fuck me moment. This is pretty great. I’m into the lush orchestration, the electronic experimentation, the jazz trumpet in the last track. “I might Be Wrong” is a stand-out bootyshaker for me. Respect. A strong 4.
Whilst Amnesiac is often viewed as a lesser sibling to Kid A given it comprises tracks that were deemed unessential/unfitting a year prior, it's an incredible album in its own right nonetheless, arguably encroaching into even more experimental territories than its predecessor. A dense, glacially tinged experience, the feelings of detachment and isolation within Kid A are more than potent here as well, but it's an album I've been consistently fascinated by and drawn to despite its self-contained, unwelcoming nature. It sounds like it's from another universe entirely, as though we shouldn't have access to it but somehow do. I vividly remember hearing "Pulk / Pull Revolving Doors" for the first time several years back - the experience was akin to having my soul airlifted into the cosmos.
Certainly more of an acquired taste than their other albums but still a classic
I wish I could do half stars. I love this album and this flavor of Radiohead - with some electronica - is my favorite. But it can’t shake off Kid A. This album is for winter nights and dark drives.
In general, this album was ok. But I listened to it whilst driving at sundown, with a red sky silhouetting the clouds and mountains, a dark road lit by weaving brake lights - and so it was perfect.
Very distinct vibe from my favorite band ever. Not my favorite from them But very respectable.
Interesting listen. There was something less refined about the sound on this album that made me think it predated Ok Computer and Kid A, but I was wrong. Knives out is the clear stand out track
I was able to listen to this on my way back from work. I walked from the capital about 4 hours through the city to my home during a festive Saturday night. This album was an exquisite companion, adding textures and depth to things I feel used to, to moments we let slip through our fingers as if we had infinite moments to spare. It's still an odd project, not my favorite by this band, but there was something about the background of everything else when this is playing that I appreciate. Then I listened to their compilation of this record and the prior effort. Kid Amnesiac would've been one of those projects where I ask it to be cut down. Luckily for me it's been done, and Kid A is that perfect version. I suppose every once in a while we're just in the mood for straight up Radiohead, and when that's the case, this extension of an album might be listened to again. 3.8/5
Probably the most underrated Radiohead album. It obviously doesn't quite compare to its predecessors or In Rainbows or anything but it still has a lot of great moments on it. I've always really enjoyed the closing track "Life In a Glasshouse". The horns on that track are really unique for a Radiohead song. "Pyramid", "You And Whose Army?" and "I Might Be Wrong" are some other stand-outs. Great album, if you like Radiohead you'll enjoy it. Favorite track: Life In a Glasshouse
This record has a lot of haters, as does its predecessor. I feel KidA is a bit overrated leaving Amnesiac as underrated. This has all of the atmosphere with better 'songs'. A bit less of a cohesive work, sure but holds its own.
A lot of "better than I remembered" type tracks on this, some slow spots where they get too experimental. I love it because Radiohead is one of my favorite bands, but its not their best album and its not really even an album per se. Still good stuff.
This is really good. I think Radiohead is probably the modern Pink Floyd. What do you think?
I have never listened to this album, I really enjoyed it, pretty good to listen to while working
One of Radioheads better albums. I gave it an extra star jusy for being somewhat current. Spotify wrapped just came out and it is clear that this project has thoroughly trashed my algorithm. Listening age of 73 it said. Superfan of oldies it said.....No rhanks.yo.both of those. Big sad with that one. Only 700 days to go give or take.
Not an easy listen, but complex and rewarding. Would definitely listen to again, if in the right mood.
Album #2: Amnesiac - Radiohead Genre (according to Wikipedia): Alternative rock, electronica, experimental rock, post-rock Singles?: Pyramid Song, Knives Out Have you heard any songs from this album or group before?: Yes. Radiohead is one of my favorite bands of all time. I have heard several songs off this album, but never in a full chronological order. Thoughts?: I may be biased for Radiohead, considering one of my favorite albums was Kid A, but I love their overall sound and versatility with their music. Some of these songs, namely “Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors” hurt my ears, but I’m sure I can handle the sound with repeated listens. Favorite songs: Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army?, I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Morning Bell/Amnesiac, Life in a Glasshouse As a writer, what can you use this music for when honing your craft?: The uncertain anxious nature of the album can help me with certain scenes that are inspections of human psyche. For example, meltdowns. The more experimental sides inspire me to explore more about mythology and other sorts of art forms, much like Radiohead did with this album and Kid A. File correlations: Experimental: File #004 - C*O*M*A*T*O*S*E. Anxious, conventional: File #007 - Tallis Tales.
i love Radiohead
Close to their best but not quite 4.5/5
they are great
Feels mostly like kid A leftovers. Still really solid but a bit inconsistent. Pyramid song is one of their best songs
Perfect example of a really good album that doesn’t deserve to be on this list. Radiohead do not need more than 3 albums; no one does (apart from the Beatles maybe)
It feels pretty whole (to be updated when i have time)
Radio HEAD??? WHERE?????
Great album First listen was crazy Few misses but very good
I don't love the shift to electronica. This does not hold up to The Bends. You And Whose Army? is the most melancholy song calling someone out I've ever heard. I also like it the best of the songs so far. Radiohead is like what Coldplay would sound like if they were sad and experimental. I love the line in Lego Movie 2 when 1980-Something Space Guy Benny says he finally gets Radiohead in Everything's Not Awesome. I Might Be Wrong has a Link Wray feel about the guitar riff. I wonder if these guys watched Lost Highway and this song came out of it. Knives Out feels more like "classic" Radiohead. So far, every song from You And What Army forward is more like the Radiohead I love. They're losing me again, rewins noise or moth flapping near a microphone noise in Like Spinning Plates is annoying. Ok, Like Spinning Plates is a jam. Too many space noises on this album. Life in a Glasshouse works somehow, it's like Radiohead's take on a jazz funeral.
A collection of odd little nuggets. Most of them are both off-putting and incessantly hummable.
A dark, experimental electronic album with a touch of rock and jazz. I really liked this album and will be adding it to the collection
4.5! Still docking half a star for “Morning Bell / Amnesiac”
odd
I love their first 3 albums, with The Bends being one of my favourite albums of all time! Some of their stuff can be at best challenging at worse almost inpenetrable. This is nearer the challenging and therefore more enjoyable end of their spectrum.
Amnesiac is a strange one. When it followed so closely on the heels of Kid A, I was ecstatic. More Radiohead! And so quickly! But being released so soon after that major release, Amnesiac felt slight in comparison. Partially, that has to be attributed to its less cohesive nature. It also doesn't help that it includes a handful of sound experiments that would normally not even be released as b-sides, and a new version of an old song from Kid A. [Speaking of - I'm pretty sure "Morning Bell | Amnesiac" is my least favorite Radiohead song of all time. It is an instant skip from me.] Anyways. There are some amazing songs here- "Pyramid Song" is hauntingly beautiful; "You and Whose Army?" is a fun exercise in dynamics; "I Might Be Wrong" is funkily hypnotic. I really enjoy everything here (excepting the aforementioned rendition of "Morning Bell"). But I can't shake the feeling that this isn't a "real" album, on par with any of Radiohead's major releases before or since. For that it can only receive - FOUR STARS
Pretty good, pretty weird
Not my favourite Radiohead album, but the layers of sound and musicality come through with every listen
Fantastic, obviously. But feels more like Kid A outtakes
I really love Radiohead. This special kind of nostalgia hits hard, especially now, as I played it on a morning walk in the park with my dog in the middle of November. I see this one gets a bit of hate and I can probably understand why, it’s definitely not for everyone’s taste. Still I believe there are some objective bangers on it, I Might Be wrong and knives out stand out in particular. 4/5
Great album if you like moaning. Favs: Pyramid Song- I like how the piano part sounds super disjointed until the drums come in and make it make sense. Strings sound Beatlesy. One of their best songs. I Might Be Wrong- Sexy bass. Life In a Glasshouse- I’m a sucker for funeral jazz. Least Favs: Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors- Instrumental is very cool but Thom sounds like a depressed Crazy Frog.
This album makes me feel like I am RobPatt Batman and the world is my Gotham.
Radiohead was so popular. Maybe they still are. I find most people I know like them but are tired of them. Same for this album. I like it until I get tired of it. I’ll rate it higher for its adventurousness.
A middling Radiohead album is still better than most of the dross this site recommends.
feels like a collage of textures.
After two “best albums” in a row, it's hard not to see it as anything other than just a collection of B-Sides. Particularly given the a clearly inferior, lazy re-tread of Morning Bell (not to mention the lyrics for Amnesiac songs appearing hidden inside the jewel case for Kid A). Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors and the backmasked Like Spinning Plates aren't the most accessible tracks either. But the highs are still so high here, and revisiting this was a blast. Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, I Might Be Wrong are some of their best work of this era and easily go toe-to-toe or even surpass much of the material found on Kid A (heresy!) Packt Like Sardines, Knives Out, Dollars & Cents and Life in a Glasshouse are solid as well. I don't think it quite acquits itself from being painted with the 'non-essential Radiohead' brush, but any other band would kill to have an album of this calibre in their discography.
