Reviews (page 3 of 13)
One of my favorites. Hauntingly beautiful.
It’s tough to follow up the two most revolutionary albums in popular music in a (my) lifetime but Amnesiac holds its own with a bunch of amazing compositions that feel humbler than those of Kid A but are no less dynamic and inventive.
“Amnesiac” has a reputation for featuring some of Radiohead’s most experimental electronica, which is true. There are plenty of glitchy, programmed drum beats and ghostly samples. The opening track “Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box” sets the tone right away for some sort of dystopian dance party. And “Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors” is all distorted drums and ambient chaos. But paradoxically, this album also features some of the only songs in the band’s catalog where they actually swing. “Pyramid Song” has a hypnotic, jazzy beat. The drums on “Knives Out” are light and loose. And the closer “Life in a Glasshouse” is a stunning, drunken lounge number. It’s a fusion of rock, jazz and electronica that only Radiohead could make. It’s got a vibe all its own. One of those albums that gets better every time I hear it.
Went through a very long phase where Amnesiac was my favorite Radiohead album. Though the more time went on I grew to prefer Kid A and OK Computer, but I still believe Amnesiac has some of their strongest material and my favorite song of theirs, Pyramid Song.
I understand the criticism of this one. If you don’t like Thom’s voice you will hate it. The songs are strange. For me there is a hook in every song. Pyramid song might be their best song ever. Thom has an incredible range and the album has a unique sound.
Probably the best Radiohead. I can't fathom how this could be seen as a step down from Kid A.
The weakest of the 5-star Radiohead records, but still an easy corker. It's such an odd album. I'd describe it as "quietly apocalyptic", beginning with the unassuming synth mumble Packt Like Sardines In a Crusht Tin Box and moving in haphazard leaps and bounds until it arrives at the brash, depressed, paranoid semi-jazz number Life In a Glasshouse. And between those two tracks are a strange array of different styles and sound experimentation. It really is the perfect example of a band trying out new sounds and those sounds being weird but surprisingly (maybe accidentally?) good. Pyramid Song is a juggernaut track. It incorporates a 4/4 rhythm that sounds like 5/4 with intermittent pauses between bars. (So already you have a classic to share with your non-musical friends to confuse them.) Add to that the excellent keyboard chord progression and you have one of the most fun songs to play on piano – not just of Radiohead, but ever. It's an exotic, eerie piece of art, in the key of F# but using a ton of non-F# chords to create a Phrygian-mode sound. Fitting for Egypt, I guess. Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors is justifiably memed about on the Radiohead subreddit. You And Whose Army? is another chord- and melody-heavy track with two separate parts. The second section explodes out of nowhere from the muted, underwatery first section. There are so many oddity tracks after this point. The murmured vocal over a heavily charged guitar riff in I Might Be Wrong. The biting lyrics of Knives Out. The dreary, dreamy Morning Bell/Amnesiac, which is essentially an alternative take of the namesake track on Kid A. The fighting major/minors and Thom Yorke's obvious dislike of his own vocal in all tracks, but very noticeably in Dollars and Cents. The slightly ominous guitar instrumental Hunting Bears. The incomprehensible post-psychedelia dub Like Spinning Plates. They're all such weird numbers, and separately they'd be lower than 5 stars. But these songs, as a collective, hold a special place in my heart. 5/5 Key tracks: Packt Like Sardines In a Crusht Tin Box, Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army?, Life In a Glasshouse
increible
this is the jazziest radiohead album! the opener (“packt like sardines in a crushed tin box”) is one of the worse tracks on this album. it only goes uphill from there because the next song is “pyramid song” ❤️ i been on the hype train for this song before i even liked radiohead. if you like slow, kinda sad songs in the minor key please listen to this one. “pulk/pull revolving doors” SUCKS because of the weird voice changer stint they have going on. however. it is saved by “you and whose army?” which has genuinely one of the best buildups in all of music history. this might even beat “pyramid song” in my book. “i might be wrong” is next up…. and let me tell you that thom yorke is DEFINITELY not wrong. this song has a really great driving bass line, reminiscent of the home depot theme song. listen to this if you love home depot. also it has a really cute guitar and vocal outro. “knives out” is great. couldn’t really say why. just a masterpiece of a song, though that’s probably more my music taste speaking than an objective appraisal of its musicality. HERE WE GO…. because “morning bell/amnesiac” is next. this is the better “morning bell” (the other is on kid a). the backing vocals are so haunting and really support the dark lyrics. it’s creepy in the best way. it’s also slow and takes its time. i HIGHLY recommend this if you like your music on the more unsettling side. then, of course, we have “dollars and cents”. i recently put myself onto this song when i finally did my full listen of amnesiac a few months ago. underrated for sure. it also has those really satisfying driving instrumentals. one of the jazzier pieces in my opinion. i like when everything goes slightly flat in the middle, a nice intentional choice from radiohead that makes you feel like something is off. the harmonies in this one also really make me happy. “hunting bears” is a good instrumental. doesn’t particularly float my boat but it’s definitely respectable. “like spinning plates” also was not my favorite previously but listening again has changed my mind. it’s really pretty! “life in a glasshouse” is a peak closer. THIS is what jazz is about. there is in fact a clarinet in this song. also a plus. another fav. all in all this album is a masterpiece. not peak radiohead but still super solid. 5/5.
Love Radiohead, probably too abstract for many people but heard this many times personally
Electronic Radiohead
This is not my favourite Radiohead album, but even Pablo Honey would get at least 4 stars. Pyramid Song and Morning Bell/Amnesiac are absolutely sublime, and the rest is really good.
a very cool bridge between their earlier rock/alt sound and what evolved into the masterpiece of Kid A
I know this one well
Listening to this is like wading through a wistfully melancholy dreamscape. A bit disorienting, unreal, and deeply textured. Struggling to describe this in a non abstract way but I found myself thinking that all the songs shared a similar frequency/hum. A lot blends together but in a way I find pleasant to get lost in rather than boring. Really enjoyed this album.
Holds up.
Amazing, maybe Kid A best, but this is 4.5 stars. I may be biased becayse I listen to this on my 20s (not two decades later). Still holds.
*5*
I considered giving this a 4 because - I can't rate every Radiohead album a 5, right? And I don't love Amnesiac on the same level as some of their other work. But, I still really, *really* love Amnesiac. It's a 5 star album and I can't argue myself out of it. Every one of their releases from The Bends through In Rainbows was straight fire. I mean, what an incredible run of albums. I don't know how many of them are on this list, but they're all 5s on mine. Amnesiac is a darker, jazzier, slightly more defiant sibling to Kid A. (I'm a reasonable man, get off my case!) I really like the trip hop influences, especially on Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. And oh, that clarinet and those horns on Life In a Glasshouse! They really weren't confined by anything when making this album. It also features Pyramid Song, which is among their greatest. Yeah, I'm giving this 5 stars.
A more mellow album even for them. Still great.
Bomb
say less....
probably my favourite Radiohead album, with my favourite Radiohead song: Life in a Glasshouse. so jazzy and sleek and aggressive
Loved it
Excellent. A contender as favourite Radiohead album, switches places with kid an and back again both excellent. Claustrophobic complex. I’m a reasonable man!
It's telling that a record that sits in the bottom half of Radiohead's discoraphy is still an easy 5. Not a lot of bands have 6 or 7 perfect records. This is one of them.
10/10. I love how artistic Radiohead's music is. :)
имба.
Yeah so listen to this while you watch total recall with Arnold. You’re welcome.
Темный, меланхоличный звук, сумрачные темы. Немного авангарда, немного рока, электроники, поп-музыки, джаза. Если не страшно нытья и занудства, то можно смело пускаться в путь!
Much more than a "b-sides" to kid a.
Innovative, experimental, musically deep, unmistakably unique and purely divine much like most of Radiohead does, no wrong!
Can you imagine this and Twin Peaks? Damn, man...
I have a great memory of listening to this album while flying; as we came in for landing at my home airport, the plane banked and the sunlight broke through the clouds just as You And Whose Army reached its crescendo. Chills. I love this album.
Very nice album.
Очень атмосферная музыка со своим неповторимым грустно-задумчивым настроением
My favourite Radiohead album- the classical and jazz influences give me shivers Pyramid song is one of my fav songs of all time, makes me feel so emotional I can’t put into words how much I adore this album and every song on it
Amnesiac popping up right after I typed out my review for PJ Harvey and said I was a Thom Yorke shill was funny. I guess it’s hard to be a shill and not have Radiohead’s discography at 100%, so fair enough album generator - this was a blind spot! What a nice surprise! This thing is grimy and filled to the brim with jazz. Really dug it and it wasn’t anything like I expected. “Knives Out” was a blast, “Pyramid Song” was spectacular, and what a finale with “Life in a Glasshouse.” Should be a 4.5, but alas.
Another solid Radiohead entry. They really are so much more than just Creep. Not sure if I like this more or less than Kid A. Everything is either more or less experimental and trancy than Kid A. So individual songs might be better than on Kid A, but Kid A might be stronger as an album. Regardless, just give me more Radiohead.
I quite enjoyed this
I love this album. I don't know what there's to not like. People just want to act like they're better than everyone because it's really good. Every time I listen to this album, I listen to it in it's entirety.
Great
oh thom
Really liked this one
First song was good
Radiohead top album. One of my favs.
The more Radiohead the better for me. Not the first album that comes to mind when I think of Radiohead's best, but every time I relisten to it I'm reminded that it's really not far off. Pyramid Song and Life in a Glasshouse are certainly top top tier Radiohead songs. Fav tracks: Life in a Glasshouse, Pyramid Song, Knives Out
I really feel like this is too good for me to subjectively critique
Hey there 👋🏾. I know this seems crazy but do you want to hang out Xoxo ~N
I Might Be Wrong, but it’s Radiohead so it’s going to be top notch.
Amnesiac is such a strange album to me. Recorded in the same session as Kid A but this definitely isn't any B-side album. Packt fuckin rules and you can tell it's from the same session as Kid A. Really playing with some of the synths on this one. Pyramid Song which is one of the best songs ever created and if it doesn't make you feel something you're a robot. Pulk/Pull is my least favorite song on here but has massively grown on me over the years. Used to be an instant skip but I sorta like it now. Flows well with the album but I can understand people hating it. You and Whose Army/I Might Be Wrong are songs that just sound familiar. The buildup on You And Whose Army is sick. Knives Out was the easiest for me to get into initially. Just a classic standout and the most "normal" song on here. Morning Bell. I do think it's cool that they recorded the same song for both albums even though the Kid A version destroys this one. Points for creativity though. Dollars & Cents floats into mayhem in the best way. Like most Radiohead albums they have an interlude song that fits perfectly into the album. Like Spinning Plates is an anxiety inducing track and one of my favs and like most Radiohead songs, hauntingly beautiful. If I remember correctly Thom learned to sing the song backwards, and then reversed that so that's why he sounds so eerie. Life in a Glasshouse is some awesome jazzy blues and a perfect end to the album. It's not my favorite Radiohead album, but goddamn what a trip of a listen. Radiohead does such a good job of evoking emotions and while this album has its flaws, it's still cream of the crop for me. Low 5.
Timeless.
Amazing
If you asked me my favorite Radiohead album back in high school, Amnesiac was my answer. Today, my answer would probably vary depending on which day you ask me, but Amnesiac is definitely up there as one of my favorites. Some of my very favorite Radiohead songs are on this album. Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army?, I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, and Like Spinning Plates are all such strong songs, I honestly have a hard time understanding the grief this album gets as simply being Kid A's sloppy seconds. This album has a strong identity of its own, to my ears anyways. Easy 5 stars.
A masterpiece
You definitely can see why this album is on the list
This is really fantastic, but since its Radiohead, it gets overshadowed by other albums they did that are somehow better. This album is nuts all over the place, hard to predict what's gonna happen next
Transcendental
Right up there with Kid A, but somehow feels underrated in xomparison. Sounds better every year, and so cohesive as an album.
thom yorke
that was such an experience, I loved it so much. that might be my favourite Radiohead album. it was such a musical experience, instrumental and vocals were amazing. my favourite song was definitely "You and Whose Army?" but Pyramid Song was so haunting and beautiful and Life in a Glasshouse was an excellent way to close this album.
Superb album
Very vibey and good, a must listen
Ethereal, deeply moving
I like radiohead 5 booms BOOM 💪 BOOM💪 BOOM💪 BOOM💪 BOOM💪
Great
Rightly, upon re-release, Radiohead merged Kid A and Amnesiac as a single album. They were recoerded at the same time, represent the same grear shift in music and are more than just sister projects, they are simply opposite sides of the same coin. But this album is the soundtrack of the 21st century. Its splitting hairs that it is anything but a continuation of Kid A. Yet it even manages to have a mournful nostalgic lookback to the 20th Century - even as far back to the forties with ;life in a glasshouse'. What a way to staer tthe 21st Century.
5/5
Masterpiece!
I am a massive Radiohead fan. They’re probably one of my five or so favorite bands of all time. Going into this I would have ranked Amnesiac just ahead of Pablo Honey and The King of Limbs at the bottom of their discography. I gave it three listens for this. It’s definitely the stoniest of Radiohead’s albums. I like it much now. One more masterpiece, it is. For Radiohead. The wolves could not get this one. Conquered as they, Radiohead. For the victory. This is not a drill. It is one. Hay in the stray.
Not quite the best Radiohead album, but it's my introductory one and I'll always have a higher opinion of it for that (plus it's jazzy as shit)
thom yorkes vocals sound the same always but i appreciate the variety in instrumentals. i really liked life in a glasshouse
Reminds me of whiny & sad teenage days, listened to it in the gym tho, not recommended
Another of my favorite albums by Radiohead. I prefer it over Kid A, though, with the release of Kid A mnesiac, they are restored to the double-album as originally intended and do compliment each other.
Yes, Radiohead, yes.
Ein wunderschönes Album
Et sublimt, smukt mesterværk med SÅ mange højdepunkter: Lige der hvor instrumenteringen kommer ind i You And Whose Army ❤️❤️❤️ Den hoppende basgang i I Might Be Wrong ❤️❤️❤️ Thom Yorks måde, helt roligt at synge: If you’d been a dog, they’d drowned you at birth på Knives Out ❤️❤️❤️ Trompeten på Life In A Glass House
Von Anfang an ein spannendes Album. Ich konnte gar nicht anders als es bis zum Ende anhören. Das hatte ich Radiohead gar nicht zugehört. Danke für dieses Erlebnis
9/10 Excellent album, perhaps less coherent than those either side of it, but contains done real RH classics Musically it is like a bridge between OK Computer and Kid A, more accessible to those who prefer the guitar rock RH. A great mix of styles and genres: rick, electronic, jazz, even delta blues Best: Pyramid Song
Arguably the album that makes Radiohead Radiohead? The sheer amount of invention and willingness to push themselves creatively is astounding, even at the expense of creating something that they just have known wouldn't have been hugely popular. The experimentation covers all sorts including electronics, distorted vocals, changing time signatures, unorthodox structures, jazz influences and lots more. It's kinda hard to listen to in places, and but I love Radiohead so will overlook that. If they weren't trying these things they wouldn't be the great band that they are
Great album, but not as great at Kid A.
Ha nem sütne a nap százágra, eret vágnék 10/10
relistening to this album for this project and discovering it was as good as kid a all along is potentially top 10 plot twists of my entire life
I am biased but this is brilliant
This is another album that I have a hard time being objective on. Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army, I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Morning Bell/Amnesiac, and Life In a Glasshouse are some of my all time favorite songs (which granted is a very large list). Those ones really take me somewhere else when the setting is right. Hunting Bears, Packed Like Sardines, Dollars and Cents, and Like Spinning Plates are cool and I do enjoy them, but not to the same level. Pulk/Pull I actively dislike. 5 stars because I love those previously mentioned songs so much, even though I don't see it as a perfect album. Album cover: A. I like the little guy.
Radioheadin levy, jota on itsellä tullu vähemmän kuunneltua -- ilman mitään hyvää syytä. Aivan loistava. 5/5.
Вот у группы есть такие альбомы как OK Computer, Kid A и In Rainbows, да? Лучшая песня - Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box.
Really liked the opening track vocals. Yorke sings without his signature falsetto which caught me off guard. Pyramid Song is a masterpiece all of its own with its much debated subject of time signature.
Slower and eerier than their prior albums. Ok computer and Kid A has a lot of similarities in writing style and I think a lot of the songs were written at the same time just split into two albums, insomniac seems to be the start of the gradual evolution into more electronic feeling music (not sure what exactly makes it feels more electronic, maybe just the drums) and playing more and more with creative ideas around the songwriting process, like pyramid song’s unsettling chord progression. I just feel like Radiohead makes really good complete albums that flow together while also having great songs that stand alone
Wil niet weer 5 sterren aan radiohead geven maar jezus
I mean come on
This album didn’t capture me on my first listens like ok computer, this one (like Kid A) are more slow burns. I like them more and more as I listen to them.
Radiohead no falla. Les juro que sí me baño. 10/10
Brings me back to freshman year
Radiohead recently re-released this and Kid A together, which is could, because this is the companion piece to a decidedly consistent one-two. Use Your Illusion this is not.
Love love love
Fuck you guys I liked it.
Astonishingly unexpected from Radiohead. Loooved it, really creative and unusual songwriting that got me really lost in a sound I wouldn't normally be fussed about. I will say it was better when out for a walk than walking around and around the store trying to find something they apparently don't have lmao, that became a bit disorienting. But I'm not going to take that out on the rating because it's not Radiohead's fault but the shops. And ofc the rating goes rocketing up again because they have a clarinet tootling around in the last track! I am really blown away by this album
An all-time favorite. Some of Radiohead's greatest deep cuts appear on this album.
I feel like this is an easy 5 stars but looking back I only gave Kid A 4 stars... I guess I wasn't ready to commit back then :). Anyway, this album, along with Kid A, Pablo Honey, and OK Computer are at the top of my Radiohead charts. Faves from today: Packt..., Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army?, Life In a Glasshouse
Yes, I'm giving it five stars and I love it, but I'm also gonna carp on about Dimery being a fool for including this AND "Kid A" in the list - they're doing the exact same thing a year apart - completely unnecessary. 🙄 Fave tracks - "Pyramid Song", "You and Whose Army?", "Knives Out", "Like Spinning Plates"
It’s a scattered brain album that works great. The instrumental helped improve the overall sound in a delightful way
Phenomenal Whole album is amazing. "Pyramid Song" still stands out to me
Initially wasn't as taken with this as Kid A. It never quite caught up, but it's still fucking great. 4.5/5
In my eyes one of the most perfect albums. Just so many ups and downs and the musical layers are amazing!
Radiohead manages again and again to not only be experimental and progressive, but to produce real beauty that reaches the listener on a deeply emotional level. This is one of their best efforts.
¿Me gusta mas que In Rainbows?
Great stuff.
Excellent
First Radiohead album listen - immediate fan
One of my favorite Radiohead albums. 5/5!
awesome, love radiohead.
Acquired listening As oddities come to life Pretty as a bloom
Sometimes I think I like this album better than Kid A.
Soooo cool! Timeless!
It’s a no brainer this one. Seeing Radiohead live was a bucket list moment for me. Simply beautiful
really like the more experimental cuts on this, but even the slower songs are quite enjoyable
Finally some Radiohead! Radiohead and System of a Down are my two favorite bands (I know it's a weird combo) so I am going to nerd out a little. There are a lot of really good songs on this album that don't get enough attention in the Radiohead fandom. Personally I think the I Might Be Wrong guitar riff is so cool and I find the melody that goes with it so catchy. And I can't believe Like Spinning Plates and Life in a Glass House don't have more streams. **Note to future listeners**: I like to substitute Pulk Pull Revolving Door with Pulk Pull - True Love Waits Version it doubles my enjoyment of this album. I just think the original version is too long to be so weird (and they ruin a really good beat with the vocals) I have a hard time picking a favorite Radiohead album, it is probably not this one, but if you ask me one specific day a year I might say this one. Spoiler alert: I am going to give every Radiohead album a 5 Also Check out the KID A MNESIA virtual exhibition, it is definitely worth the experience.
Loveeee this, love the mood, guitars, and the incredible synth work. This is the first Radiohead album if listened to in full in a while, looking forward to the next one. 5/5.
The more I listen to this, the less I think it’s my favorite Radiohead. But it has Pyramid Song and Whose Army.
great
Ye mmm Thom Yorke
Brilliant and underrated work in the formidable Radiohead canon.
Oof. "Pyramid Song". The creative concept behind "Pull/Pull" intrigued me and made me want to experiment with spoken word+ tech. Haunting lyrics and delivery, soaring vocals, experimental instrumentation, balanced production. I love this, but recognise that the moods evoked are not for every person/every moment. Radiohead does beautiful dark chaos very well.
When I first heard the piano syncopation of "Pyramid Song" it was a random mash of chords and atmosphere; when the drums kicked it, it all made beautiful sense. Thom Yorke's vocals are ethereal and haunting, as they are on "Like Spinning Plates" as well. Though there is the meandering industrial soundscape of "Pulk, Pull Revolving Doors", it is more likely that a structured song is hidden amongst the sparse instrumentation and beats of "Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box" and "I Might Be Wrong." Amnesiac successfully infuses electronica into what is essentially guitar rock with the guitar removed. "Morning Bell/Amnesiac" is another version of "Morning Bell" on Kid A, and what I imagine was probably closest to the original writing of the song. "Life In A Glasshouse" first turned me on to appreciate jazz clarinet; they never sounded like that when playing "Louie, Louie" in marching band! "You and Whose Army?" is especially good live, where Thom taunts the audience in an "audience vs. Radiohead" showdown before the epic climb. Bonus points for pushing the boundaries of their genre, again, again.
Oh man, this album came out in my grade 11 year and I loved it!
Liked it way more than I thought I would.
kid b, es un grower xq al inicio no me gustaba tanto, hoy creo que es top5 de radiohead
TTPD para los alternatives traumados, ta bien I guess
Pretty great, honestly. It’s like the brother to Kid A. It has all the positives of Kid A IMO. But is it better than Kid A? I don’t think so. While it has all the positives, it pails in comparison to it. Still pretty good listen though.
genius
Tied for my all time favorite band. 6/5
Not as pop friendly, but the journey of the album is fantastic.
Superb album, so many classics in my opinion. Not there best album but all are so swell
A fun thing that Radiohead can do: record two nearly perfect albums at the same time and then, like, just hold off on releasing one of them for a year because why not.
basically a continuation of Kid A, so much so that they recently released both of them together. Pyramid Song and Knives Out are excellent standouts. A logical next step from OK Computer although some wanted more rock like Pablo Honey.
I was borderline going to go with a 4 here just because my standards for Radiohead are astronomically high. But that's bullshit because it's all relative. I gave Ice-T a 4 yesterday which by definition means Radiohead is a 5. Here's the thing. You may be a "musician" - some of us are. But you can't play Pyramid Song. Yet I've seen these guys do it live and they are brilliant. Thom is up there with Prince as a multi instrumentalist. Radiohead's talent is epic.
I'm not very familiar with Radiohead's electronic era (I haven't listened to Kid A either outside of two songs), and I don’t normally like electronica. That being said, something about Radiohead just resonates with me. Every album that I've heard is a transcendent, almost out-of-body experience. It just takes me to a place, a mood, a headspace that not a lot of other music can.
The least commercial thing you could imagine, ironically helping propel them to become one of the biggest bands in the world. This is pure we-don't-care-about-success, capital-A Art, and it is brilliant.
For some reason I thought I’d gotten all of the Radiohead albums that’d be on this list so this was a very pleasant surprise today. Of all of the “good” Radiohead albums this one is probably the one I overlook the most for some reason. I don’t know why because it’s fucking great. It not only proves that kid a wasn’t a fluke but that they knew how to do even more with their new electronic sound by making it more aggressive, more futuristic, and even more orchestral in some places. I’ve always liked knives out and you and whose army while being generally positive about pyramid song but this listen I really gained a new appreciation for the first track and I might be wrong.
amazing album, no bad songs
Kid B! I'm a reasonable man, get off my case. A staggeringly complex and important record from a band in one of its golden periods. Absolutely love this record!
honestly, just what i needed today. 5/5
No one else writes music like Radiohead. So affecting, such wild chord progressions, such sonic landscapes.
Wow I had Kid A last week and now it's companion Amnesiac! I think I like this one slightly better but both are awesome and as I mentioned in previous review if these were a double album that would be up there with best double albums ever!
Love this album but it shouldn't be on this list. Especially not at the expense of Kid A/In Rainbows/the Bends
The weather outside is frightful. Apocalyptic, dark and windy, at 10:00 am. The music is delightful. This album is just what I needed this morning. Thanks, Tom Yorke and Radiohead.
I hated this when it came out because it didn't have enough guitars on it. Now I love it because it doesn't have enough guitars on it. I think Radiohead's best album exists in the gray space between this and Kid A; they're both a little patchy but some really good songs do the heavy lifting. Here, it's "Pyramid Song," which breaks my heart a little more every time I hear it.
Decent
Fantastic album! Easy listening (except for the highly unsettling ‘Pull/Pulk Revolving Doors’). My favourite songs are ‘Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box’, ‘Knives Out’ and ‘Morning Bell/Amnesiac’ (I much prefer this version to the one on Kid A). One to listen to many more times!
All timer
Hadn't listened to that enough...
Way better than I thought this would be. Weird of me to describe but it just sounded like how Radiohead should sound. Rock/electronic/experimental. Everything about it sounded solid a really well produced.
My favorite Radiohead album as if you care
Gear: Aür Audio Aurora Mix (KID A MNESIA 2021): 🎧😘🤌 Musik: Das Album in diesem Moment gerade mal wieder zufrieden wippend zum dritten Kaffee auf/in den Ohren gehabt...Zufall!? - Ich glaube NICHT! Wertung: 🐳/5
Brilliant
Fantastic album! I could listen to Radiohead all day and night. True classic.
Unlike anything else out there. Except for Kid A. Which is also a 5
Another excellent album from Radiohead. Love Knives Out, Pyramid Song. Didn't realize till today that it's Humphrey Lyttelton's band on Life In a Glasshouse.
This is Radiohead's fifth studio album, containing a few of well known tracks like "Knives Out" and "Pyramid Song." The songs were recorded in the same sessions as their previous album, Kid A. As such, some have critiqued this album as a collection of "B Sides." The band members felt differently; they felt that the Kid A songs were a complete set, and these songs were from a different place than the Kid A material. Radiohead continued with their exploration of experimental alternative rock and electronic music. They explore different textures and arraignments to create mesmerizing soundscapes in their work. With Amnesiac, they continue to define modern music.
Like spinning plates, knives out
Not everyone’s idea of a five star album but it does it for me. Not for parties - for headphones, quiet mornings or late at night. Challenging and thoughtful.
Was in a bad mood, this made it worse.
This is actually the first time I listened to Amnesiac this closely. Usually I’m a fan of Kid A. Even though these were said to be recorded around the same sessions these songs seem be more traditionally structured. So on balance feels like Radiohead synthesising their different styles. I like it.
WOOOHOOO! Every album, from Ok Computer through In Rainbows, is absolutely brilliant.
Radio. Head.

There's something about this album that I like. I think it makes me understand why some people really latched onto Radiohead. It's got complex things going on, including punky/grungy/whiny stuff, but has a dreamy lofi sonic atmosphere that downplays, masks, or even belies that complexity. Highlights: "Knives Out"; the famous "Pyramid Song";
Classic. Delighted that the 1000s of people on this 1001 journey will get to listen to this.
Love Radiohead, love tis album.
This is not my first listen to this album and I feel like if it was it would be a very different review, but the album really grows on you over time. This album is often called as Kid A b-sides and I am not denying that that is true, but these songs still hold their own and have a whole different sound than Kid A and I just love this band so much. They’re on a whole different level.
Headphones on. This soundscape opens beautifully and builds layer on layer and then strips it back again. Thom Yorke's voice captures the human in among all the electronics even as it is itself manipulated. It is a journey into the head of someone who not only wants you to feel what they are feeling, but to be there with them. The opening bass line on Dollar and Cents is a quietly understated foundation. Strongly electronic, the music does not simply fall into tape loop of infinite repeats but overlays and underlays like a fabric of sound that shows a pattern. What is amazing is how seemlessly the various pieces are joined and interwoven. Listen once. Listen again. And then again. Different pieces ascend each time.
My body's floating down the muddy river...
radiohead go full jazz odyssey and the world is better for it!
If this album generator challenge taught me anything, it’s taught me that I LOVE Radiohead!!! I love the singers voice, love the background instruments, and I love how calm and slow it is. You can tell they had fun with this album because it sounds very different than the first album we had to listen to. Was much weirder! Like I said, I loved this and can’t wait to hear more from them. 10/10
Definitely a bit more challenging songs than average for some Radiohead albums, but Pyramid Song, Packt, You and Whose Army, I Might Be Wrong, Morning Bells are all amazing. I've really enjoyed Thom Yorke's vocals... they are unique and perfectly suit the music. A favorite.
so weird and i love it
Another Radiohead masterpiece. I’ve always been grateful they chose to release this as a stand-alone album that acts as a companion to Kid A (rather than a lengthy double LP, or cutting them completely). There’s such an incredible atmosphere and mood to this album. It’s insanely creative, passionate and timeless to me.
Where Kid A was a divisive record that most people can be convinced on how incredible it is despite the weirdness and inaccessibility, Amnesiac is the even more experimental and divisive follow-up that those people say "you've already used your excuses with Kid A, now what?" The mainstream audience will listen and be left confused. Critics will hear this and shrug off the more experimental tracks, and claim the better ones are merely Kid A B-tracks. Fans will say this is them at their most creative with the most thoughtful and constructive tracks in their repository. Compared to Kid A, this one places less of an emphasis on ambient in favor of krautrock and jazz. What this means is that the tracks are glitchier and static. Kid A was smooth and delicate but also loud and flashy. The tracks in Kid A had many complimentary dimensions that created a world in your head. Amnesiac has less layers, and yet those layers are more pronounced and repetitive, creating a sound that is colder and more ominous yet still knows what it tries to be. Two other observations. The first is that the tracks are less coherent than Kid A. Because of how harsh each of is, songs don't transition as well. Sure, the track ordering is still fine for what they have. Tracks 4-6 are rock-oriented and the most accessible, while "Hunting Bears" and "Like Spinning Plates" nicely build to the mood of the closer "Life in a Glasshouse". But the tracks stand on their own a bit too much, and it makes it harder to enjoy it as a full satisfying experience. The second is that the tracks are less fun and accessible. Beyond the strangeness, Kid A has some very beautiful melodies in maybe half the tracks that anyone could catch on to: catchier flashier melodies, but also more emotion in Thom Yorke's vocals. But here, even the acclaimed songs like "Pyramid Song", "Knives Out", and "Life in a Glasshouse" are more disjointed and confused, even a bit shy. It's harder to get into them or sing along. That is where a lot of the charm is though. These songs are less predictable but subtle, delicate, and intriguing. Many people may consider these characteristics as worse as an art form. I don't believe that to be the case. I think it makes it more difficult to appreciate and listen to casually, but it doesn't take away to the impressive work Radiohead has put in to every track. They're master classes in production work, breaching beyond what is conventionally possible with soundscapes. And you have to appreciate the crazy effort they have put in, perfectly incorporating rock, pop, electronic, jazz, and other sub-genres into something that creates such a unique and outstanding mood. Very few albums could compete in what Amnesiac has achieved.
Found this highly enjoyable. Thom Yorke’s vocals are delivered with passion and soul over an ever-shifting soundscape that defies gene. Separate the numerous pieces of instrumentation and you’ll find yourself wondering how it all fits together; but sitting back you let the alchemy work its magic and don’t ask about the man behind the curtain. Highlights include “knives out” “packt” and “morning bell.” Loved it.
Moody and melancholic.
Amazing album and an amazing band. It's not just music, it's art.
every Radiohead album is a 5/5, I don’t make the rules
The unbelievable subtle details in the music throughout this album reveal what a great effort they went through to record it. Wonderful experience!
I was obsessed with this album when it came out I have to give it 5 by default
Jazz and horns. Very low key
Everyone talks about OK Computer. And I understand why that is. But man, this album is such a good damn vibe.
Highlights: Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army?, I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Morning Bell/Amnesiac Disliked: Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors (just not my thing, don't like electronic voices or talking in songs anyway, that was always my problem with Fitter Happier on OK Computer as well). Hunting Bears just feels like filler. Like Spinning Plates is an interesting song and I like the way it builds but I find the fluttering noises a bit unpleasant. Overall: I'm a big Radiohead fan and this is an album with a lot of my favourite Radiohead songs (Pyramid Song, Knives Out, , but not my favourite album of theirs overall - I did think as I was listening to the first song that if this was my first exposure to Radiohead I might not really get the hype immediately, but as an existing fan putting it into the context of the rest of their catalogue I like it a lot. Thom Yorke's voice is ethereal and beautiful as always. I like the combination of their more classic guitar riffs with electronic drum beats, I like a lot of the experimental stuff they did. Tough to know whether to give this a 4 or a 5 - It's a 4 compared to their other albums, but a 5 comparing it to all music. So I think in the context of the project it's a 5.
It's not the best Radiohead album so I was considering giving it a 4 but I listened through again and it's a masterpiece still.
Excellent!
Not cohesive for obvious reasons but gozzy being gozzy
Sad boi classic

This sounds fresh, maybe it was ahead of its time?
Not even the best Radiohead album.
This is actually one of my favorite Radiohead albums. The top 5 on this album is just so great, although weird in some parts: ‘Pyramid Song’, ‘I Might Be Wrong’, ‘Knives Out’, ‘Like Spinning Plates’, and ‘Life In A Glasshouse’. What can I say? This album also just hits so different from the rest of them. I don’t know why, but it just feels like it’s in its own world. Anyway, great album bye
Love Radiohead! I can’t wait for there next concert
Spooky jazz. A much better album than I thought. And I’m finally embracing Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors!
My kind of weird
Surreal and beautiful
Back to front 5 stars f'real
This is peak Radiohead for me. Dripping with emotion and class.
huge radiohead fan. I think this is radiohead at their most weird/experimental (yes even more than tkol) still love this album as a whole, even though i just regularly listen to half of it. Kid A morning bell >>
R A D I O H E A D
Good album. I feel so relax wneh I listen it
I never appreciated it enough at the time
A great moody album
the best
After years of waiting nothing came
An absolute masterpiece, this album is a a timeless triumph of music, creativity and experimental bravery. There is nothing that sounds like this album and its companion album, Kid A, either before or since - a testament to its genius.
Fantastic album So underated People call this record "kid A leftovers". Amnesiac is so much more than that Probably my favourite radiohead album
what a beauty this album is. album number 1000 for me on the list. the excitement over what treat could possibly await as album 1001 is palpable. If it's anything other than the seminal 'Up & Down : the party album' by the Vengaboys i will be sorely disappointed.
AfTerYeARsofwAITing,nO-th-ingCamE this is the soundtrack to my early 2000s life
Another S tier album from Radiohead. Kid A is my favorite album from them but this one is such a great compliment to it.
W RADIOHEAD LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO
Fantasy
awesome
god Radiohead is one of the best bands ever 10/10
Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out
Weird and depressing. Well, that's like my two favourite things in the world. I also dig the noisiness, it's almost like this album was made specifically for me. Direct hit
classic radiohead. sounds like bonus tracks of OK Computer and I'm here for it.
Like 👍🏼
Front to back bomb tracks
Not my favorite of theirs.
Not a huge Radiohead fan, but this was the one I liked to listen to all the way through. It’s beautifully crafted with immaculate production. It’s underrated because it doesn’t have any massive hits
So much to love about the album. From the weird songs, to the Radioheads classic sounds. Really enjoyed lessoning the whole way through
This is a great album i love All radiohead albums equally. I think this album has some weird songs but it also container so many amazing songs
I mean… I genuinely feel sorry for people who dont love them as much as I do. This one especially takes you to another world. Amazing
Great album
Kid A was a dream. A frigid, postmodernist dream experienced by a soul unable to process its own emotions, and holding back any clear feelings it goes through--doubting them, even. It's a dream about modern alienation--a weird dream that might or might not be linked to the influence hypertechnology has upon us all, disconnecting us to ourselves instead of connecting us to others. Underlining this state of affairs at the turn of the millenium, the pardoxical miracle that this record operates is unique. The more feelings in it are repressed--the more their expression is muddled by static, oversaturation and informational entropy--, the more kindred souls can be moved by the failed attempts of Kid A's protagonist to convey their emotions in any recognizable or expected manner. Some of this thematic groundwork is covered by the lyrics, but most of it is expressed through the music itself. And contrary to what happens in Radiohead's other masterpiece *OK Computer*, emotions in *Kid A* surge out of a lack of emphasis, and not through a wealth of it. This is where the oneiric character of the record is pivotal. Disconnection and alienation are so prominent in its aesthetics, everything looks and sounds like a dream. It's not even clear if it's a good one or a bad one. *Amnesiac* is the companion piece to *Kid A*, recorded during the same sessions. And it feels like waking up from the dream that *Kid A* was. You try to pick the pieces in the morning and solve the puzzle. What was this strange dream about? What is wrong with me? Is there a way out of the labyrinth? You ask those questions to yourself as you're taking the tube to work, you and other commuters "packed like sardines in crushed tin box". Whiffs of the dream come back to haunt you in those waking hours (that other version of "Morning Bell"). You look tired and despondent and worried. And after a while, as you start contemplating the "real" world--real but kafkaesque, dystopian--you wonder if the dream is not actually going on. Except that this time, any sense of elatedness is gone. Only melancholy and frustration remain. *Amnesiac* is therefore less cohesive, more disjointed than *Kid A* is, but such disjointed aesthetics also serve a purpose in this record. And the album's got highlights every genuine Radiohead already knows about and love. It's got "Pyramid Song", a song for the ages with its strange meter, Escher-like chord progression and tortured wails in the dark. It's got the paranoid, dry and hieratic "You And Whose Army". It's got "Knives Out" and the cyberpunk, Bladerunner-like moodpiece "Like Spinning Plates", with its inverted vocal parts sounding like telepathic brain waves reaching your skull from afar. It's got cyclic "I Might be Wrong" and the brass-band-enhanced cri du coeur "Life In A Glasshouse". It's got soul and anxiety and so many questions for you. And just like *Kid A*, those question marks can resonate in you long after you've listened to the album. 4,5/5 for the purposes of this app, rounded up to 5 here. Number of albums left to review: 424 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 265 (including this one) Albums from the list might* include in mine later on: 141 Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 175
Aah, I wrote a whole review comparing and contrasting Amnesiac to Kid A but obviously didn’t save it. Bugger
Love
Gorgeous. Could not stop listening to this album.
In the ever-evolving landscape of alternative music, Radiohead stands as a monolithic force of innovation and sonic exploration. "Amnesiac," the band's 2001 release, is a bewitching journey into the depths of their artistry, offering a disorienting yet deeply rewarding listening experience. This album, often considered a companion piece to its predecessor, "Kid A," deserves recognition for its enigmatic charm and audacious creativity. Clocking in at just over 40 minutes, "Amnesiac" feels like a dreamscape woven together from fragments of forgotten memories. The opening track, "Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box," sets the tone with its glitchy beats and Thom Yorke's haunting falsetto. It's an unsettling introduction, inviting the listener to venture further into Radiohead's labyrinthine world. One of the standout tracks, "Pyramid Song," is a masterpiece of melancholia. With its ethereal piano melodies and Yorke's poignant lyrics, it evokes a sense of longing and existential contemplation. The accompanying strings create a sense of weightlessness, as if the listener is floating through an otherworldly realm. "Knives Out" brings a more straightforward rock vibe to the album, with its catchy guitar riff and Yorke's cryptic storytelling. It's a testament to Radiohead's ability to balance experimental elements with more accessible songwriting, providing a bridge for those who may find the album's overall sound too unconventional. "Amnesiac" also delves into electronic experimentation, most notably in tracks like "I Might Be Wrong." The pulsating rhythm and Yorke's distorted vocals create a sense of disorientation, mirroring the album's overarching theme of memory and its unreliability. It's a track that feels like it's constantly on the verge of unraveling, keeping the listener in a state of suspense. The album's title track, "Amnesiac," is a short but impactful interlude, with eerie vocal effects that reinforce the album's surreal atmosphere. It serves as a brief respite before plunging back into the enigma. Radiohead's sonic explorations reach their zenith with "Like Spinning Plates." The song is a disorienting experience, with Yorke's vocals reversed and reconstructed, creating an unsettling sense of distortion. It's a testament to the band's willingness to push boundaries and challenge conventional notions of song structure. Closing with "Life in a Glasshouse," "Amnesiac" takes an unexpected turn into jazz-inflected territory. With a mournful brass section and Yorke's emotive delivery, the track feels like a lamentation for a world that's slipping away. It's a poignant conclusion to an album that constantly questions reality and memory. "Amnesiac" may not be Radiohead's most immediately accessible work, but it rewards those who are willing to dive deep into its intricate layers. It's an album that challenges preconceptions, blurring the lines between genres and emotions. With its enigmatic aura and sonic experimentation, it's a testament to Radiohead's commitment to pushing the boundaries of what music can be. In the end, "Amnesiac" is a haunting, elusive masterpiece that continues to captivate listeners with its intricate tapestry of sound. It's a reminder that Radiohead's legacy is built not only on their commercial successes but also on their unwavering dedication to artistic evolution. This album stands as a testament to the band's audacious creativity and their willingness to venture into the unknown, inviting listeners to join them on a mesmerizing journey into the depths of their musical psyche.
Excelente
What a masterpiece! This is what rock in the 21st century is. The way they play as a band mixing different sounds and making them into a song is like a painter mixing colors in a canvas and coming out with a full picture. Johnny Greenwood is by far a genius
Not a bad song on the album and some of my all time favorites, including Pyramid Song, Knives Out, and Hunting Bears.
One to sink into and let wash through you. This album captures the anxiety and anomie of the millennium - the dark depths below the shallow sheen of Blairism and Brit-poptimism. Unsettling poly-rhythms, dissonant harmonies, glistening shimmering textures that shift and mutate as instruments come in and out, fade outs where you realize there's been a guitar hiding in the mix that entire time, that warbling thin and piercing singing (I get way it's not universally loved, but it works so well for this music - how insane would this sound if they had a normal rock singer on this?!), the fluttering panning what is that sound snyths, electronica inspired drums and bass, melting horns and washed out strings. Korn for softboys, dance music for shut-ins, this is dismal and alienating exploration of the dismal and alienating feelings of shiny glass cities and the empty boom of the FIRE economy.
I can see how some don’t like it, but the super cerebrial, almost ghostish voice of Thom Yorke is indelibly seared into my head as interesting and not ott. But I think that’s also because I came of age during the Napster era when they reigned as the mainstream “thinking man’s” music
Loved it!
I’m such a huge Radiohead fan that even an album like this, which most don’t think is their best effort, starts with a presumptive 5. Call it the Radiohead floor. But they earn it here with Knives Out and a Pyramid Song alone. Pyramid Song in particular is just epic. It really rises so far above most music of the time. But to me Dollars and Cents sounds like classic melodic Radiohead, I Might Be Wrong sounds like classic guitar-band Radiohead, and Sardines sounds like a bridge between Kid A and the Radiohead sound that was to come in the ensuing decade. And You and Whose Army is just so pensive. Those are all songs I like to sit and listen to. Others aren’t, but they’re still good: Pulk/Pull, Spinning Plates, Hunting Bears and Glasshouse for me represent the band’s willingness to experiment with new sounds and constantly evolve, but all in different ways (from dueling guitars to New Orleans jazz), which is what makes Radiohead so great. Even so far as to take a song they had just recorded on their last album (Morning Bell) and rerecord it here in a different time signature. None of those are meant to be the next hit single. They’re just the product of talented, curious musicians who found them interesting. Yeah, still a five, and I think they’ve earned it.
Very nice.
I love Kid A so it is little wonder I love this too. It might be a little less broody and dark but still packs a punch. One of the great albums to feed the disillusionment time has bestowed upon me.
9/10
I'm a big Radiohead fan so this is straightforward for me. This is a musically strange random album about fear and isolation. It is one of the greatest albums ever created. Considered by many to be the rejects from KidA but there are many tracks on here I consider very highly and in fact better than on the earlier album.
I love radiohead and this album is a great one. I haven't listened to many songs off of this before, but it's really just a great blend.
I was already familiar with 3 songs, and Radiohead in general, but this album blew me away. The album encapsulates the worst emotions, the sheer eeriness of these tracks is harrowing to me (in a good way). There is not a single bad song on this album, I love how the experimental and haunting nature of the record intertwine with each other. Favorites: Packt Like Sardines In a Crushd Tin Box / Pyramid Song / You And Whose Army? / I Might Be Wrong / Knives Out / Morning Bell/Amnesiac / Dollars and Cents / Like Spinning Plates / Life In a Glasshouse
early 2000’s radiohead is the best radiohead. definitely their most sonically diverse album ever. perfect blend between all hail the thief (my fav album of theirs) and kid a. fav songs: pakt like sardines in a crushd tin can, pulk/pull revolving doors, i might be wrong, like spinning plates, life in a glasshouse.
Classic radiohead
So this is supposed to be a bunch of throwaway songs that didn't make the cut for Kid A? I'm so glad to live in the same timeframe as Radiohead.
In my top 3 of Radiohead's great discography. A masterpiece.
This powerful album knows exactly where to pull all the heartstrings in my soul.
I've loved Kid A ever since it came out, but I never realized this album existed. I've never paid much attention to Radiohead otherwise, for shame. That said, it's basically just Kid A part 2, so I obviously loved it!
Absolutely fantastic follow up to kid a
fajne
No way. This is my second favorite album - right after kid a -
I've always been under the impression that Amnesiac was a b-sides album, but understanding that it was recorded with the intention of essentially being a split double album seems to ring truths to me now I'm relistening to it. There's definitely purpose to the album that I didn't hear before. As for the review, it's Radiohead. Easy 5. Something about these guys just resonates so hard with me through this time. Definitely didn't at the time, but as I get older they sound stronger and better.
11/12
Luego de In Rainbows mi prefe.
Amnesiac (and Miles Davis' In A Silent Way) has contributed more, from a technical perspective, to the recording of popular music than any other album made in the last...60 years? Yup. I do believe this.
My favorite Radiohead album.
I like this era of Radiohead quite a bit. This, OK Computer and Kid A are a holy trinity to me. This may be the weakest of the bunch as it's something of Kid A leftovers, but its still great.
Brilliant album, brilliant band!
5. It's Radiohead, always happy to listen to them.
Next cloudless night you're out in the country - far away from any city lights - get in the car and find an isolated place to park, then put on the song "Pyramid Song" at top volume, turn out all the lights, and lie down and stare up at the universe. It will change your life. Additionally 20 years on and I still can't entirely get the timing right on that song. Which I kind of enjoy that it's still a challenge. (also: if your wife hates Radiohead this album *really* isn't gonna change her mind and I'm not gonna push it (e.g. "Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors" on the stereo would get me a tent in the backyard without a key to the door).) Related: this one is gonna have an absolute deluge of 5s and 1s. I get it. This (and "Kid A") was my gateway to breaking out and discovering a wider world of electronic rock/pop. The sheer variety of music on this album is just whacked; just thinking of the percussion sounds alone: digital tickety-tack, noise-percussion, then standard acoustic kit (the latter esp. on "Knives Out" which is arguably the most "normal" song on the album but with the standard Radiohead disquieting chord progressions). Electronic washes and digital manipulations ("Pulk/Pull...", "Like Spinning Plates") - utterly bizarre and almost incomprehensible yet it all works. Truthfully, the album falters just a bit in the second half on a song-quality level (n.b. I'm not a big fan of this version of "Morning Bell" - the Kid A version for me is unassailable, this is oddly too straightforward, almost plodding); it was *almost* enough for me to dock it a star, but the impact this album had on my overall music listening is probably something I'd not thought enough about. I wouldn't call this my favourite Radiohead album because ... well oddly partly because of everything above (i.e. difficulty/entry level: HIGH). At the same time it came out at the exact perfect time in history and my life to change everything. Played amidst or just thinking of the backdrop of 2001 is forcing the issue but holyshit was it the right soundtrack for the apocalyptical shit that launched in that year and has never ended since. Amnesiac is more of a "whole is greater than the sum of its parts" vibe and taken as a singular 43 minute unit it's in my pantheon of most-influential (to me) albums. 9/10 5 stars
One of the most amazing things ive ever listend to
I've always thought that if Radiohead had released this before Kid A, then everyone would probably be gushing over Amnesiac instead. It's quite obvious that they are two halves to the same thing, and I'd feel a bit disingenuous giving it another rating. It's awesome.
I've always had an affinity for this album. When it was released, I think Amnesiac was generally regarded as a lesser album than Kid A, but there is a warmness to these songs that I think is missing from Kid A. Maybe its the red album cover. I love Life in a Glass House, but so many of the songs rank in my top Radiohead tracks.
Give them another 5 already
Love Radiohead. Always playing with the formula and trying new toys.
Probably my favorite radiohead album. Just as experimental as kid a, but it feels less cold and isolated. This one has a bit of the warmer, more organic feeling sounds of later albums while still making you cry.
Thom
I went into this not liking Amnesiac a huge amount. I always saw it as just leftovers from Kid A that weren't as good as Kid A. But on this listen I found a lot more appreciation for it. It felt weirdly hopeful and curious, whereas Kid A was just bleak and stark. The closing track is this multi-layer orchestral piece that feels like the cheerful closing credits to the duo of Kid A/Amnesiac, the band basically saying "thank you for coming on this journey, we hope you enjoyed your stay." So while I still prefer Kid A, I have a newfound admiration for Amnesiac.
I Might Be Wrong is just so cool, that funky bass line is a joy. You and Whose Army? Wow! I've been too busy listening to write notes. Dollars and Cents just got completely under my skin. Maybe I want in the mood, but I found Kid A to be disappointing, whereas this weird collection is just magnificent.
Not their best album but I love Radiohead
This is a great album. I really enjoy Radiohead and their albums were big for me in high school. This and Kid A together are an amazing set of albums. For whatever reason I felt like people would always make you pick which of the two was your favorite back then and I tended to lean towards Kid A. But now I'm an adult and we don't have to choose. 5/5. Standout Tracks: Packt Like Sardines In a Crushd Tin Box, Pyramid Song, You And Whose Army?, I Might Be Wrong, Knives Out, Morning Bell/Amnesiac, Dollars and Cents, Like Spinning Plates, Life In a Glasshouse
This album feels the most experimental of theirs, with some tracks ("Revolving doors") that are a little hard to digest at times. Yet it also has some of Radiohead's most sublime work. "Pyramid song" might be my favorite across their whole oeuvre. "I might be wrong", "Pakt like sardines..." and "Knives out" are classics. I can't not give it 5.
Spectacullar album, but then Radiohead rarely misses, its the kind of experimental music that is enjoyable to listen to
I was really thinking when I clicked the button it was gonna be like a Yardbirds album, but nope!! We got Amnesiac instead. This is some of the very best music in the world. The best band of our generation. The paradigm schism. What else can I say. Everything is basically perfect. I kept thinking about all the styles and all the instruments on this one album and how masterfully they are orchestrated. Just tip top.
I'm a reasonable man, but you've gotta admit this isn't as good as their other stuff, either before or after. Still a five, tho.
I did not know that this was going to be a double album with Kid A and was produced at the same time but then separated because it had too much in it for one double. I absolutely love this, super beautiful and unusual and catchy. Morning Bell/Amnesiac has been in my head for weeks now for some reason so really nice to listen to that. I don't know how he writes these tracks, so mystical.
Goooooood weird stuuuuuuuff
Was my least favourite Radiohead album when I was younger and first got in to them, now love it. Like Spinning Plates is a beautiful song (really recommend listening to the live piano version on the I Might Be Wrong EP). Also love the version of Morning Bell on this album compared to the one on Kid A. They were pumping out so much great stuff in those 1999-2000 recording sessions.
That's cool. I mean, this album offers you a broad variety of genres, also incorporating unusual moves.
Yess!
Great album but I need to be a bit in the right mood to appreciate the voice of Thom Yorke and the Morning Bell version does fit but is less good than the version on Kid A. Anyways, I liked it then and like it now so let me give it the full stars it deserves.
This is the Radiohead album that won me over. Probably still my favourite, along with Kid A.
Collection of wonderful songs that remain intact under heavy experimentation. Just listen to Like Spinning Plates.
Favourite Radiohead album.
4.5+
I always thought this album was underrated compared to Kid A. It doesn't get better than Pyramid Song.
