Reviews (page 6 of 13)

really just a group of guys jamming for 35 minutes. goes hard

Veldig Kult konsept, men litt ensformig

it's giving spongebob battle for bikini bottom goo lagoon vibes

AJ: Amazing. Fucking amazing.

Very close to being a 5 for me. I think if there were vocals it’d be a 5 for me. I totally recognize the significance of this album, but something about it just misses what it’d need for a 5.

the original songs are amazing, and the covers are quite interesting, though they fall a bit flat for me. it’s squarely in the realm of a medium idea executed extremely well. ends up better than i would expect but not perfect

For relaxed listening, well composed with some old sounding recording equipment. Nostalgic even though i’ve never listen to it before.

Great album...exactly what I expected it to be which was just a solid jazzy album. 3.5/5

Rautane levy saatana. Elokuvista tuttu. Alkoi toistaa itseään loppua kohden

From a time when instrumentals were cool (actually they still are). Great little combo, as they used to say. Bonus points for Green Onions, and the sequel Mo' Onions. Loved it.

Cool stuff. Too cool for you!

Thick oozey funky 70s guitar music. You have everything: tracks to strut to, tracks to make smut to. Basically v v cool

I’m familiar with the first song but had forgotten all about it. I always liked it and with the rest of the album being similar, I enjoyed this.

Oh boy oh boy these cats were cooking, I mean they were grooving. They punched in their time card into the studio and said mind if I ball tf out. Good album got me through a jam

3.5/5 just chill

Really fun and short album. Just classic 60's R&B. If you like instrumental music you will love this but as someone who is not that big on instrumental music that isn't Jazz I would not say I love it. I think I would rate it a 8/10 with the title track unsurprisingly being the best track.

I'm on board with this. My foot was tapping the whole time.

Meters-lite

Very hard not to like such a classic album with foot tapping songs all the way through and slabs of hammond organ at every turn!

Ble plutselig Dressmann i monitor... Kul musikk ellers! Stilig orgel - og blir faktisk ikke "kjedelig" i lengden selv om det er rent instrumentelt!

Odd pick for the list but enjoyable instrumental organ-driven R&B.

Cannot believe that they made baseball music into a real thing!

This a fun album, full of easygoing, soulful grooves. It's like a trip into another time and place, some smoke filled little 60s club where the drinks are plentiful and everyone is cooler than you. The title track is the obvious star of the album, one of the most killer instrumental tracks ever made. It's a genre-defining and era-defining song that never gets old. Nobody else sounds like this, and if you can find someone who does, they're absolutely biting this band's style. The album as a whole could never match up to that song, it's just not possible. It's almost entirely comprised of covers, a common practice for artists at that time. But Booker T. & The MG's pretty much owns these covers, with an incredibly distinctive sound that's catchy and affable and hip as hell. The band's own songs are among the best on the album, for what it's worth. I would have liked to hear more of their original stuff. Fave Songs: Green Onions, Lonely Avenue, Comin' Home Baby, Behave Yourself, One Who Really Loves You, Stranger on the Shore

Bit samey, good though.

This is great!

like it, chill!

good vibe. I am quite biased towards organs and electric pianos of any sort but this was a cool album

A groovy, smooth and very pleasant instrumental album which was ahead of its time when it was released in the early 60s. I love the sound of the Hammond organ. If you want to put up a record for an afternoon tea party or little garden party, this album would be a good choice.

Didn't realize how many of these songs I knew.

Classic organ+guitar riffs.

Sounds like my music, liked a lot

Green onions??? Why??? I thought that this is something awful but when you hear the opening…you are ready to give 5 stars. Unfortunately, all other tracks are not so perfect. Anyway I will think about this vinyl.

good stuff 5 4

Classic old school groovy funk. The first two songs have been heavily used in movies, completely forgot that this band did those!

Classic early American Soul. Everyone knows the song Green Onions: it has appeared so many times as the song people explain how the Heist is going to go down. Lots of great organ and instrumentation and enjoyable covers. Research led me to McLemore Avenue, a Booker T. and the M.G.s All Beatles cover album

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would...

Lovely album to chill to but a little too much organ for my taste

So many classics

Hardcore classic.

Fun instrumental album.

3.75/5 An instrumental album? This was cool as a cucumber man. I actually really enjoyed this album. I got it while driving through mountainous canyons, and somehow it was really fun. The organ sounding instrument was like a voice. It was a moment, and I enjoyed it.

I like this, but apart from the iconic title track, I don't love it. Still though, it's a very pleasant one to listen to!

Similar to Yu-Gi-Oh's fusion mechanic, here we have an amalgamation of Slater, Kelly and BB King. Nothing to spectacular but in general a very good album with a specific genre havbing a "continuous" vibe, giving it, its own unique characteristic's of surf jazz fusion. I wouldn't call it memorable, but it's ok. Stranger on a Shore - 4 Mo's Onions - 4

Excellent instrumental album. Not all of the tracks are essential, though, but the sound is amazing.

Excellent, instrumental

Already on my list. Classic

Rinky Dink is standout here

Really cool 60’s instrumentals with several covers. Everybody knows green onions of course

Dia 4. Disseste que os nossos corpos florirão em lágrimas com a certeza de quem nunca regou uma planta na vida.

In a lot if respects, this is pretty simple music. But then the soul searing magic of Booker T's Hammond plays right through you. And you get that complexity is not an indicator of beauty.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Green onion, You can’t sit down

Not really a big fan of instrumental music, but yeah this is an ok album. Has some great covers minus with lyrics. Keyboard 👌

vibbin'

R&B album released October 1962. No vocals, just Hammond M3 organ (Booker T. Jones) electric guitar (Steve Cropper) drums (Al Jackson Jr.) and both electric and double bass (Lewie Steinberg). Almost all songs are covers of older songs from artists including Ray Charles, Mary Wells and Jackie Wilson. Overall, a very decent album especially for its time. Not really my thing, but it made for great background music. Would listen again.

Fun R&B instrumentals some classics in here

Blues, funk instrumental. Muy bueno!

The definition of chill. It's not mind blowing by any means, but great music for when your hands are busy.

Fun funky background music. Good party soundtrack

This was a fun listen. Each song is a fusion of genres between funk, r&b, gospel, surf rock, jazz, blues.

Great instrumental R&B on here. Hammond organ + guitar (possible telecaster?) duo sounds great. Everyone recognizes that title track.

Fun blues album of instrumental covers.

pretty chill and nice to listen to. mostly instrumental, there’s some organ and it’s a little jazzy. you can definitely tell this is coming out of the 50s but in a good way

classic songs and sounds. very good album

Pleasant background music. I like how the instrumentation makes it sound like somebody is singing along to it.

1962, electric piano awesomeness. Instrumental. Lovely. Listenable. Anytime.

It's a fun instrumental album by a great band. These guys were the house band at Stax Records, and it shows. I'm amused that Apple Music requires them to change the title of Rinky Dink to Rinky D**k. It seems to give them an edge they never needed. It's a clean record made by some great musicians.

Awesomeness abounds from title track and onwards but surprised worst track to me was Twist and Shout. too much expectation. Took me waaaay to long to figure out Rinky Dink was using the rift from Mickey and Sylvia's Love is Strange...just kept thinking, Dirty Dancing, I know it's in Dirty Dancing.

So. Much. Organ.

groovy

4.5/5. Solid album, one of my favorites in my collection. Very enjoyable to listen to.

Blues Brothers moment

I love the cool funky vibe hehe

If it contained only the title track, it still would have to be on this list. 1962. Brought to the attention of so many a style of music that had already been developing for a long time, and accelerated a whole movement. Brilliant.

nostalgia!

The only song I've ever heard by Booker T. & the M.G.'s is the namesake of this album, Green Onions. It was in the film Pulp Fiction. Because of this, I am looking forward to today's listen because Green Onions is a rockin' song! What I discovered is more of the same for the whole album, funky, bluesy, fast, dancing music. This album is fully instrumental, which worried me at first, given my short attention span, but it was such a great album, and the songs didn't drag on like some instrumental works tend to (Avg. song length is ~3 mins). The heavy inclusion of the Hammond Organ front and center has a tendancy to remind you of being at a baseball game, but the way that Booker T. Jones plays the shit out of the organ quickly brings you back to reality. There is one point during the song "Lonely Avenue" where Booker T. is playing so fast, that the electric keyboard can't keep up, creating a clipping sound as the keyboard tries to deliver all the notes (perhaps a downfall of the electric vs acoustic organ). I also enjoy the way each instrument has its time to shine in the spotlight, making it seem like the band is just having a ton of fun jamming together. This was a phenomenal album, I wish it was longer. I will definately listen again. Favourite songs: Green Onions, Mo' Onions, Lonely Avenue, Rinky Dink, You Can't Sit Down, Twist and Shout, "A Woman, A Lover, A Friend" Least favourite song: Stranger on the Shore, Behave Yourself 4/5

goofy ah album rlly indicative of its time

Have heard the title track a million times and had no idea that was its name.

The track' Green Onions' is an absolute classic! Very good instrumentals of some classic songs as well. 4/5

It was pretty nice and enjoyable. Some nice covers in there too. Always interesting to find out the name of a song I've heard so much but not known the name of until now. Favourite: Green Onions

Some very good classics:)

The album gets a lot of things right. First the songs on do not drag on, as the album is not even 35 minutes long. Second this album influenced a lot of other of songs and artists. While none of the songs have lyrics, I found myself singing the lyrics from the other songs. Third, the organ was an interesting touch but they pulled it off. It is a close call but I will round up.

Simple and cool.

Fire instrumentals 8/10

Himmailuklassikko! 4/5

Essential cooking music.

Fun old school music. Sound like organ trio jazz but far bluesier and poppy. I could listen to this album a thousand times, will be in my rotation for sure. Clear guitar but not offensively loud.

i won't lie, i was disappointed by the lack of vocals, but this was a solid album full of groovy bops and i'm glad to put names to some songs i've heard before!

Classic R&B/funk album. One famous song and lots of other good songs.

A funky good time.

Green Onions is an unstoppable banger. The rest of the album is less inspired and a little too same-y, but still fun to listen to. I’d say the next best song is the surf-rock-esque You Can’t Sit Down

Great album. Feels like being inside a Quentin Tarantino film. Very cool.

Great album to listen to while floating through my workday. Will definitely revisit this in the future when I need some nice background music to keep me relaxed and calm, yet still attentive

Brilliant instrumental RnB/Soul album. The title track could be my new obsession.

Pure gold.

so many classic riffs, enjoyed the last few tracks especially (and the title track of course). Makes for great background music

Instrumental masterpiece. I can't help but think of The Blues Brothers when I hear the title track. Such a groove

A delight!

Enjoyed sitting down with some Booker T. Great album start to finish though the organ was starting to get to me near the end.

Good stuff

Classic!

Interestingly I recognized a lot of songs on this. Very good foot tapper that will get you through a crappy day of programming and talking to customers.

Groovy

Green onions is a top 5 song all time

Good music

Great electronic organ and drums Album starts out fun, the middle contrasts with some nice slowed down songs, the ending picks up fun again Favorite songs - Green Onions, Behave Yourself, One Who Really Loves You, You Can't Sit Down

Great music. Only instrumental though

Classsssic!

ery much has that so-underrated-that-it’s-come-to-be-overrated energy. Moody and groovy. It sounds more classic than dated actually (though organ is a bit in its prominence, sounds hockey rinkish at times). But, overall, it’s all a bit too basic to be any sort of major musical milestone. Everyone loves an underdog (in this case studio musicians), wants to root for good guys (i.e, unsung heroes) to make it, and even more so to flatter their own taste and perception by discovering hidden gems and the non-obvious. But such overcompensations often distort the fundamental truths of thing; and for this album that truth is that it’s cool and groovy and an authentic artifact and should be better known, but is really only above average along each of these vectors. I bet there are in this class rather more underappreciated such artifacts out there waiting to be discovered. A 4 but just barely.

“Green Onions” has got to be one of the greatest rock songs of all time and I didn’t even know what it was called or who performed it. It’s just wedged in my brain from being featured in so many movies and TV shows. Top notch blues riffing on this album. A great inclusion on this list. Feels like an important piece of rock history.

Green Onions is featured prominently in the VERY IMPORTANT film "The Sandlot", where they smack-talk each other in a way only wholesome pre-teens can. My dad told me that the song was called "Green Onions" while I was jumping on the bed watching the movie for the millionth time, and I always remembered that. Anyway, this album has a lot of tracks that were sampled one way or another, so you can definitely tell that a lot of modern artists were highly inspired by it.

It's a classic album, very easy to listen to, albeit a bit repetitive. They riff on some similar ideas pretty often. What I find particularly interesting is that there's a lot of melodies in this album that other people took and ran with. There's a lot, like I could spend an afternoon piecing together melodies in this album that have then ended up on other people's records. That's weird right? I feel like that says that this record is pretty influential then.

Lots of songs that you know but can’t name. Fun jammy jazz.

Nice, upbeat but still chill vibes. Bit repetitive after a while but would probably be good in a playlist or to have on in the background while cooking or cleaning.

Really warm and fun, they set up a groove and it just keeps coming.

I have soft spot for the organ sound but man my ears really perk up when I hear Steve Cropper's guitar. So bright and twangy. Some real jams here. All elements balanced so nicely. Really miss the days when instrumentals could still be hits.

Quintessential instrumental R&B. Pioneering use of the Hammond and electric guitar interplay. Green Onions (the song) is obviously huge, but the rest aren't bad either. They don't quite hit the same high as the title track, though.

Feel good music for the soul. Steve Cropper is a legend.

Listened to on 7/10/22 4/5 Favorite song: green onions, twist and shout, runny dink Very familiar songs all instrumental but still phenomenal

that first song is so famous. Bonus star because it putme in a funky place all weekend.

Was great, good to hear the origin of so many samples.

Gillar de poppiga melodierna och det lite dammiga ljudet!

The album itself grows a little repetitive when you consider how far a southern Hammond organ-based soul group can go. But when you add in Booker T & The MG's are the house band to the current label that is driving the sound for 60s R&B Soul - STAX. AND Mr. Booker T is an 18 year old prodigy at the time, this album becomes amazing. How many other infamous house bands - the Funk Brothers, The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, The Wrecking Crew should have put out their own albums? 4/5.

Cool as ever.

Blues instrumental con una canción conocida. Un 4.

Very enjoyable!

Green Onions is a true undisputed classic. Mo Onions is also lost as good. And there are other great renditions of classic tunes that Boomer T turn into instrumental classics ...I've Got a Woman, Twist and Shout and the album closer, Coming Home Baby make you forget that they originally had lyrics, so adept are Boomer Ts organ and Steve Broker's guitar at filling the tune with melodic goodness. 4.5 stars

Cool vibe, lots of recognizable bits

Me gusta.

17years old! wow. Great album. I loved it

The title track is iconic and obviously why it's on the list. I think it's the first official album Stax label. It's bit uneven as a whole album, so not something you back to listen to often. The MGs are much better backing band esp when Dunn joined later on bass.

Ahead of time!

Very interesting even without any lyrics! If I need to find out some BGM for making indie games or videos for uploading on YouTube, I'd like to use these. My favorite track so far is the second one, "Rinky Dink". And I love their version of 'Twist and Shout'. I wonder if the original versions of other tracks had lyrics. I searched for "Rinky Dink" for instance, but it had no lyrics, too. What makes Booker T. & The MG's version so special?

Realno najbolji luk. I said what I said.

Sandlot

Great background music to work to. Green Onions always makes me think of the Sandlot.

A fun listen! Great background grooviness to work to. Fave track - gotta be the title track!

Tästä tuli hyvälle mielelle ja varsinkin kun kuuntelu jakautu kahteen osaan niin ei kerinnyt kyllästymään tms. Nelonen kyllä hieman yläkanttiin, mutta menköön. Hauska!

green onions is LEGENDARY... the sandlot baby! but the album does sound like itself.

This album is good but I prefer their greatest hits album.

Plucky blues guitar, lots of recognizable jams, including that one from The Sandlot. Good stuff.

Very good album. Essential and captivating. Great for working.

More like 4.5 stars. Classic

Funky great hooks. no vocals which could have pushed to a 5, as it is it's great background music.

Классика.

The kind of classic album you didin't know you knew

Está Okeish fuera de los enormes clásicos y referentes culturales, pero siendo del tamaño que son, merece más que mi propia opinión

WHAT okay I pressed play and immediately recognized the title track, Green Onions - and so do you if you've seen/heard even a handful of American movie trailers. Booker T. wrote that riff when he was 17 and later improvised heavily for the recorded version that became a huge hit and shaped the sound of groovy Southern soul. But did you know there's 'Mo where that came from? That's right, 'Mo Onions is track 4! Besides the onion songs, Behave Yourself is the only other original on this instrumental album. The rest are covers of songs you probably already recognize - I was surprised to find out I knew most of them. Also, fun fact, this band and the Beatles had mutual appreciation of one another, and John Lennon affectionately referred to them as "Book a Table and the Maitre D's". This warmed the cockles of my Beatles-loving heart. Anyway. Great album, and glad to have filled in this particular gap in my musical history knowledge.

About as smooth and Iconic as it comes. Inject that fucking organ and guitar directly into my veins.

Cool keyboard centric instrumental music. First track is well known.

Green onions is a song everyone’s heard but doesn’t know the name of but everyone should hear the rest of the album. Really catchy and led me on a binge of this and Smokey Robinson and such. Favs: green onions, one who really loves you

This is a true blast from the past with Booker T and MGs bringing my teen years to life. This is a jazz classic that is underappreciated.

Whole album's a bop. Loved it.

Filled with songs I knew but didn't know the names of, a very chill time

Enjoyable... and though green onions stands ahead by a long measure, the organ blues works for me.

Wanted to get up and dance

Exciting instrumentals. Lack of vocals and lyrical content are fully compensated for in the simple yet full music. 7/10.

lots of hits I didn't even know were all from one group

Green onions is an absolute classic! Cycling along to this gave me serious main character energy on my morning commute! Dangerously bouncy and fun! This is right up my street, the only reason it doesn't get top marks is because I prefer music with vocals and felt some of the tracks are better with vocals than only instrumental, but this is perfect for so many situations. Musically it's so interesting and impressive, I LOVE that the title track was written during a spontaneous jam which they then had to recapture. Musical genius.

A very pleasant listens and some classic tuuuunes

Thought this was really fun! Enjoyed it.

This was great, just really enjoyable.

I went into this album thinking I've never heard of this band, I've never heard a song by them, and I probably wouldn't enjoy it. It took literally 4 notes before I realized how wrong I was. Despite being unfamiliar with them by name, I've been hearing the songs on these albums for years. They've appeared in movies, they've been sampled, and artists have "stolen from" them. I can tell this band is truly legendary just by how familiar I am with their music. Even though it's not my usual style, I found the music interesting and enjoyable. It is all upbeat and just sounded like the musical version of sunshine. The musicianship was also incredible. Overall, despite my reservations, I thoroughly enjoyed my listens and feel like my musical mind has been expanded.

The title track, "Green Onions", is one of my all time favorite tracks. I will listen to it EVERY time. I know I have heard at least a few other tracks from Booker T., but I couldn't name the tracks. This album easily qualifies as "I would listen to this album again" -- > 4 stars. "Lonely Avenue" and "You Can't Sit Down" were happy surprises, but I rated each track on the the whole second half of the album with 4 stars each.

Thought this was great. Had it on whilst I was writing a proposal for work.... not one of my favourite tasks but it's impossible to be miserable with this soundtracking whatever you're doing

so groovy! green onions was just the right song at the right place at the right time and stands up forever. the rest of the album was great too, but didn't meet the same level of perfection as the title track for me.

Loved it

A lot of fun from beginning to end. I had heard Green Onions a million times and never knew the title.

Pretty good! And cool to hear so many crossreferences to other songs I already know.

Immediately recognizable opening, Green Onions is such an iconic jam and everyone should have heard it at some point. The whole album is instrumental jams, and a lot of recognizable songs. Not sure if they are covering them like Twist and Shout and Rinky Dink, or if these are the originals that were then covered by other groups. Sounds very 60s in the synths and guitars, pretty straightforward album with lots of hits from the time period.

The covers were meh, and the rest (other than "Green Onions") were a bit repetitive. But "Green Onions" is one of the coolest songs in human history. It's this album's saving grace.

Damn, lot of my instrumental favorites are on this album. I didn't like it AS much as the other instrumental albums but it was still really really good.

Title track is one for the ages - and the other albums cuts are pretty frickin' close. Good upbeat grooves. 3.5 stars.

Until I started this journey, I had thought surprisingly little about how influential some of these albums were at the time. I've heard Green Onions a thousand times but never knew it by name.

Great R&B album. Steve Cropper is the man.

Me gusto mucho! Parece un soundtrack de película basada en los 60’s.

Nice classic instrumental blues track with a flavour of "I know this song but did not know where it came from". Really liked it.

Groovy funky, could definitely listen to again

Man känner igen många låtar från typ dokumentärer på barnkanalen. Gött sound kort och lagom

First is classic!

The title track is one of the funkiest jams of all time, and the rest of the album’s tracks don’t slouch either. Steve Cropper’s guitar work here is the type of thing that makes someone want to pick up a guitar for the first time. And to think this is the house band!

A warranted classic. These guys don’t get as much praise as they deserve. 4.5.

I'm not sure if I had the right version but I only heard instrumentals

Instrumental bem interessante

Classic group that defined the Memphis Soul sound. The song Green Onions is something i think many people have heard, but do not know the name of.

wow. so many classic riffs. amazing.

Starts with an absolute banger and while impossible to live up to that start the rest of the album is funky as...

Great blues

Dug it. Have not listened before but really liked it.

Vibey instrumentals

Instrumental, used a bunch in pop culture.

Está chido

Very good, I recognize some of these from general poo culture and music history.

1. Green Onions has an iconic opening. Everyone knows it. High Hopes for this album. I am hoping for vocals because I generally prefer albums that have vocals. Guitar sounds great, beat is steady and good. Nice synthy, keyboard sound. Enjoyable opener. 2. This is another non-vocal album, oh no. Rinky Dink feels summery. Really nice beat and melody is simple and repetitive but in an enjoyable way. Guitar solo is a nice touch. 3. I Got a Woman has a lovely intro, drums sound great. However, the sound is very similar to that of Rinky Dink. If this is another same shit, different song album I will lose my mind. 4. Mo' Onions has a very different sound. Guitar chords sound great. The synthy sound is consistent but sounds better here than on IGaW. 5. Is this where The Beatles got Twist & Shout from???? Oh my god. The melody sounds the exact same. I am in shock right now. 6. Behave Yourself has a lovely intro. Calm, still, cool. Very nice. Very soulful. 7. Stranger on the Shore sounds very similar to BY. From around 1:10 onwards, it is gorgeous. Sounds absolutely beautiful in my opinion. 8. Lonely Avenue sees the return of the earlier sound, but in a different way. The beat is slow and steady, not sure what instrument I am listening to but whatever it is it sounds great. The guitar sounds fab, I can nearly see the person playing it. 9. One Who Really Loves You contrasts greatly with LA. The key change is lovely, very very nice. All songs have faded. 10. Although there are no lyrics, you can almost hear them in You Can't Sit Down. Bit repetitive but still enjoyable. Beat and bass is nice. That breakdown and build up was very good. 11. A Woman, a Lover, a Friend's intro has been my favourite so far. Again the lyrics are right there just need to be sung. This melody is gorgeous. 12. Comin' Home Baby's intro reminds me of The Monkees for some reason. Very enjoyable. Really liking this. Final Thoughts: Although without lyrics, this is a great album and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Classic. Important album, you can hear that they influede a lot of artists

The instrumentals were great, so I’ll rate it off that. Probably wouldn’t listen to it again though, since there aren’t lyrics and I prefer my music to have lyrics.

Bit unsure if all of these are original songs or covers. Nonetheless, the album is a vibe.

Knew the title track. Was interested to hear the rest. Enjoyed it.

Leuk instrumentaal album. Het nummer 'Green Onions' kwam me bekend voor

Dat ene lied van die film daar!

Fun, quirky stuff.

Nice to do homework to, sounded good. 7

When you become a meme it’s usually because you’re iconic

Just sounded really nice. 8/10, may listen to again.

"Green Onions" disco instrumental

Blues instrumental con una canción conocida

It sounds nice and Green Onions is classic but it’s mostly background. 7

Never had a name for the familiar opening track Green Onions.

Overall very soothing, easy on the ears and the slower songs really struck an emotion with me. I really enjoy this style of blues. A lot of rock jam standards are found here.

pretty darn fun

Seriously good R&B instrumentals.

awesome album. love jazz

elsket det, digg å høre på, nok av hits osv. kan være som følge av oaseeffekten etter en ørken av middelmådige album men hadde en fin stund med denne. Har en lekenhet som jeg setter pris på.

This whole album felt like an Austin powers sound track. And I loved that about it.

Fun fasho

The theme music of having a fun cool time in the 60s.

Solid classic jams to clean your house to

Groovy

The definitive Hammond organ album. Great jams. Best track: Green Onions

I know all these tunes but have no idea why... California Games? Movies like the Sandlot Kids? either way it's awesome 4/5.

Fun instrumental rock n roll album. Didn't know Green Onions (the song) by name but I know I've heard it before, probably in multiple places. Rinky Dink was a pretty fun track too. Some upbeat and slower songs alike, but still with a consistent sound. Best song: You Can't Sit Down Notable(s): Green Onions, Rinky Dink

Title track was not enough to save this one for me

Green onions the obvious standout but the rest is good fun. Nothing too demanding. A toe tapper

Great opening track, but overall repetitive and boring

Infectious in its simplicity. The drum parts were often almost comically simple and often mirrored rhythmically by at least one other instrument. The electric organ is the main highlight for me; very staccato and soothing to the ear. I'm pretty sure a few of these songs are covers, if not most of them. Honestly that kind of cheapens it for me, because if there isn't going to be much unexpected or particularly impressive instrumentation I'd rather hear originals. I'd probably prefer the originals if I heard them. Then again, jazz tunes don't always have an "original," because everyone plays the same ones. If it's a 3, it's not a very strong one according to my taste

It's an instrumental album of 60s standards played on the organ. It's good at being what it is. As long as you go in expecting only that, then you'll be quite pleased.

nao gostei

Pretty good if not samey album. Title track is of course iconic, and the rest are good tunes that kinda sit in the background.

Perfect 3.5. Great sound. MO ONIONS

If I walked into a barbecue joint and this was playing I would be very happy. Goodbye belt, hello heartburn.

Smooth and simple. I'll give it a bump for it's place in history (3.5)

Decent instrumental organ music.

liking the swing, feeling like im driving down the coastline in my 1970 plymouth fury. liking how during the midway feels to slow down, but the vibes stay uninterrupted, smooth flow from song to song. not really my taste, but still not bad :) enjoyed more than i thought i would

This makes for nice background music for chill activities like cooking

Listening to this album whilst dying in the heat while picking up my groceries was probably not the ideal event to do so however that was the cards I dealt myself. What stands out most on this album is its organ grooves, very bouncy and gives the same vibe as being at a baseball game, while I did overall enjoy the album, nothing really stuck with me too much apart from the title track which while I’ve heard it many times, never knew it was from this album. I completely understand why many other artists have covered the song as it’s got such an infectious groove while being extremely lowkey. It does give the energy of a 30 minute jam being turned into an album but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it. It’s not to be ignored however the impact this had on soul and music as a whole, these guys managed to propel themselves in such a way that allowed them to become the band behind some amazing songs and events in music history, namely backing Otis Redding across his sadly short career and have a mutual peer ship with The Beatles.

Title track is fantastic, unfortunately the rest of the album completely blended together and just wasn't anywhere near as interesting. Points for influence but forgettable as a full project.

THEY GOT MO ONIONS ON THIS THING? Great for background, not so good for active listening

Can't be mad at this. More variety would've been pretty neat, but who am I to say that the Hammond Organ isn't an iconic enough sound to necessitate an entire album? As somebody who's slowly been getting into the history of Stax records, I found a lot to enjoy on this album, but maybe not enough for me to come back to it anytime soon.

Oh shit that one song

Vibey background jazz album

Fun to hear songs I have heard for a long time actually came from, green onions was fun

Good instrumental R&B, but starts to sound samey after a few songs.

Did not like the synth that much

A real fun little ride this, the organ playing is pretty cool. Enjoyed it thoroughly but not much more to say otherwise.

Cool instrumental tracks. Couple classics

Title track is a classic, everything else is just kind of trying to be Green Onions 2. Handful of fun songs, but not my thing. Standouts: Green Onions, I Got A Woman, One Who Really Loves You, Comin' Home Baby

lowkey what spongebob vibes to under the sea

Infinitely listenable. Just a fun soundtrack vibe I could put on in the back of anything and always enjoy.

Fantastic musicians. I'm just not a big fan of instrumental music. It feels like background music and I tend to tune it out.

Fun little songs, but unfortunately they've become mostly muzak level.

Not really my kind of music

Escuchando

That organ reminds me of the music played during baseball games.....and I don't like baseball. Several tracks did not hurt me. ⭐⭐⭐

The title track was in my instrumental focus playlist for a while before I changed it up. I think that'll go back in now, with one or two additional tracks. The organ did get kind of old by the end.

Interesante, la muestra de que se puede hacer un buen álbum instrumental sin necesidad de que sea música de ascensor.

Some nice tunes from the heart and soul of Stax Records

Solid enough southern-blues and gospel album, just wish it went harder into those stylings instead of getting distracted and doing baseball game covers of pop songs.

A really cool album, but what holds it back is that despite having 2 excellent original tracks the rest is a breezy series of instrumental song covers. It's a vibe but I'm not choosing to listen to any of these over the originals.

One of the things I kept asking myself while listening to 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘖𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 was: what exactly is this? Jazz, R&B, soul, or some combination of all three? The album never sits comfortably in a single category, which is both its biggest strength and the reason I find it a little difficult to connect with. The real star of the show is the Hammond organ, which gives the album its unmistakable sound. Combined with the tight rhythm section, it creates grooves that are relaxed, soulful, and instantly recognizable. Even today, the title track sounds effortlessly cool. At the same time, the album never fully pulls me in. I enjoy the playing and the atmosphere, but I often end up admiring the sound more than the songs themselves. Still, there’s something appealing about an album that sits so comfortably between jazz, R&B, and soul without ever fully belonging to any of them.

Classic.

Green Onions track is iconic, but the rest was same- same.

Thought this might have more teeth to it but alas it was well played but the edge i hoped for.

Makes me want to go down to the soda shoppe with nothing but two quarters in my hand.

Cool album sounds more like a movie or video game soundtrack yet was simple and effective. However would never put this on by myself

The album is fine. It starts strong but gets repetitive way too quickly for an album that’s only 12 songs and 35 minutes long. I’ll probably never listen to it again. 2.5 rounded up

Solid instrumental album. I know it's a classic but this kind of thing only does it for me in middling doses.

a primeira faixa? 10/10 o resto do álbum? parecia a mesma música em looping infinito

Fav song: Rinky Dink

I guess I should investigate them further, but I already have this album and a compilation and tbh, I’m not likely to go much further. They might just be an incredible bunch of musicians who, as an act in their own right, belong in the 1001 “songs” book rather than albums. The title track is an all time classic and I was very hopeful of hearing a few more in that realm here, but the rest is just a perfunctory run through of a bunch of contemporary hits and unremarkable blues. It still feels like they should have a decent album in them, as talented as they are, so I will do some research, but Green Onions the album has been disappointing for me, particularly after waiting years to find a copy.

it’s hard to properly rate this. so many of the tracks have been so heavily sampled that it feels like i’m rating an album of royalty-free youtube soundtracks.

Love Green onions and Mo onions. Unfortunately the rest of the album didn’t really do it for me.

Very recognizable, but by the end of it I was ready for a different sound.

In some ways this is a perfect chill vibe and in others it's a little but Muzak, which is why it's right down the middle for me. All in all it's fine, with the title track being an all time standout. But more importantly, this is amazing background music, as a positive. It's upbeat but mellow, punchy but not dramatic. It's quintessential party soul and the band is incredibly on point. It's good - it's just not great.

good stuff

Green Onions is a great track. The rest are pleasant but nothing I'd get the itch to hear again. Worth a listen!

My second instrumental album in a row! And - just like the last one - every song sounds the same! Yargh. It isn't bad, it just seems like they had a big hit with "Green Onions" and they needed to put a record out fast. Maybe I'm wrong. I love Stax. But.....this is pretty meh. THREE STARS

Serious whiplash from the title track, guess i know where that comes from now lol. Super skilled all the way through, a good instrumental

Well performed and Green Onions was great of course but a lot of covers that were just fine to me. 3/5

a very good silly album for moving day. instrumental and fun

The first track is iconic. Nothing really bad to say about the rest, the sound just gets old. Still a pleasant listen. 3.5/5

I was not expecting to hear one of the most iconic instrumental tracks right out of the gate! I have heard Green Onions my entire life, but I did not know the band that produced this masterpiece until today. I wish the other tracks had been as iconic. I definitely preferred the original tracks to the covers.

As far as 60s instrumental rock sub genres go, I’d rather be listening to some surf rock, but this was fine and the title track is a classic

Some great tunes.

Iconic instrumentals but I’m taking a star off because they’re in so many commercials

Music is good!

Was pretty smooth but a bit of a nothing burger..

favs: green onions rinky dink mo’ onions behave yourself one who really loves you you can’t sit down comin’ home baby rating 2.9/5

The title track is a classic, most the rest is instrumental covers of other 60s songs which don't feel essential but still go down smooth

Good songs and musicianship but not something I would put in just to listen to. Would make great music for any soundtrack I am producing and cool music for a cocktail party. My guess is that these guys ripped it live (and to that point, I will check out the live at Monterey set) but maybe we’re tightened up a bit in the studio. Maybe add a half to this score. At least a quarter.

+ Green Onions Hørte ikke hele, blir litt ensformig

You can’t hear “Green Onions” and not immediately think of The Sandlot. That song is permanently tied to kids playing baseball and absolutely cooking some poor kid at the plate. The rest of the album was easy listening in a good way. I enjoyed the instrumental organ covers, especially when it was a song I already knew. Nothing here blew me away, but it was smooth, familiar, and pretty enjoyable for what it was.

Enjoyed this! It sounds almost cliche in many places, which I assume reflects how much they influenced later groups
