Chill and listenable!

All bangers tbh

Highlights: Green Onions

A vibe, but a little repetitive

Nice selection of instrumentals

Cool soul/rock album.

It starts really good, what a groove !! But after it's only an instrumental version and you do know the influence it has but sorry I won't go over 3 stars. A nice live version with good chorals may have reached a 4th and even the 5th star if it's was really excellent... but that's not the case => 3 stars

The tone is set right away, with a joyful vibe sprinkled with Louis Prima-style bluesy grumbles that kick off a kind of humorous boogie groove. It’s light, warm jazz/R’n’B, nice, even really nice to listen to, though to me, not quite as intricate as pure jazz.

Pre: I'm Fan of organ blues/jazz I will like this and did want on vinyl at one point Post: don't need it on vinyl, did like it. Was a bit more pop and commercial sounding compared to Jimmy smith

blues scheme up and down, music is a bit boring but really nice keyboard sounds

Dated, but pretty cool. The songs are very much alike though.

Bra tittelspor, resten er litt kjedelig i lengden

Cool 60s keyboard vibes

It could be easy to dismiss this as random library music but I had a chill time with it. Great musicianship and my favourite version of Ive Got a Woman (no lyrics)

Decent album, it is just a jam sessions of which one became a huge hit. 3/5

You see, there are two kinds of situations with title tracks on albums. Sometimes the song feels like it was made for the album, like on Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. But then you have situations where the album feels like it was made for the song. Typically, the song in question was released before the album and the album then capitalized in some way off of the success of said single. That situation is the perfect descriptor for Green Onions by Booker T. and the M.G.'s. I've seen some describe this as "'Green Onions' and 11 weaker versions of 'Green Onions.'" I kind of agree, but I still enjoy the rest of the songs. Obviously, "Green Onions" the song is fantastic. Everything from the organ part to the song's whole groove is the perfect recipe for a great piece of music. The rest of the songs? They're all good, sure, but none of them reach the high of the title track. "Mo' Onions" is notable to me not just because of its clear parallels to the title track, but also because the guitar line at one part reminds me of Pink Floyd's "Hey You." Like, you know the part where the guitar has the motif of "Another Brick in the Wall?" It sounds like that. The album goes by quick and the songs go by quicker. I don't think this'll stick in my head for too long, but the overall sound is very pleasant. It's got a good vibe. High 3/5.

Nice vintage rock and roll album. The title track is the most well known but the rest of the album holds up pretty well too.

I really dug this debut album from Booker T. & The MG’s! I knew that I recognized the song ‘Green Onions’, turns out it was in Pulp Fiction! This album had a great mix of soul, blues, and r&b vibes and I would definitely jam to it again if I was looking for something lowkey to listen to in the future.

Not very exciting. I know the big single, of course.

So you have to look at this through a specific lens: 1. Yes, we know that music has come a long way. 2. Yes, we know we even have singing in music 3. Yes, antiquated music can still be interesting. And so this is worth a listen. It’s not amazing. Relatively simplistic even. But it has a certain charm.

First song is one I recognized and enjoyed it and from track two onwards, well it just felt like a bunch of filler. No real punch to it, nothing too exciting, it was fine, it just felt very meh. I suppose it was 1962 but they sounded talented enough to take some risks. 3 stars

It's decent, I've know Green Onions for a long time, but there's something missing for me. Maybe it is words... It's great musically but feels a bit old very fast.

Fun album but a little monotonous. A long 35 minutes. The organ is probably my favorite instrument but there's a reason it's a supporting character.

Mixed feelings. A lot of it is just background music to me but a few songs actually are cool even without vocals.

Listened Before? N This was really good as far a full instrumental rock albums go.... and I can't think of even one other - so I guess that's open to interpretation. Anyway, Not bad. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Green Onions

I can appreciate this album. Love Green Onions. Twist & Shout was interesting, ended up reading the history behind the song and its various renditions. Not my favorite, definitely something to put on in the background.

Pretty funky but this organ is kind of wearing on me

I originally had this album generated on day 5 of the project before I joined a group with some friends. I gave it a 3/5 then and feel about the same now. Green Onions is undeniably cool, but I also feel like someone imposed a 3 minute time limit on these songs and it really limited where the album could have gone. As a whole it feels more like a demo tape for a band rather than an actual album. If these songs could have been fully fleshed out to at least 5-6 minutes they would feel much more complete, but as it is they all fade out in what feels like the middle of a song.

So I thought, 'well here's the first album I won't know a single song.' Press play and <BOOM!> Straight in to every 60's heist movie I've ever seen soundtrack. Solid. Not a huge organ R&B guy but much better than I predicted.

Fun, but not totally exciting album. I recognized a few songs but nothing that was like "wow". 3/5.

Komplett instrumental, aber bekannte Melodien. Tauchen gecovert in vielen anderen Songs auf. 3/5

It's fun. It's ok. It's groovy and easy. It's 3/5 as fuck.

The organ music had me feeling like I was at an old school hockey game. Second one of track one will hook you instantly.

Iconic instrumental music that will always be replayed again and again. Blues and early rock for the history books.

Smooth instrumentals. I didn’t expect to know any songs going in, but immediately recognized “Green Onions” (never knew the name of it).

stock music ass album

Sākumā vispār nepatika, bet tad sapratu, ka laba background mūzika

Classic

1st few songs were enjoyable but got old kinda quick

Good ol jazzy R n B. A cool listen.

Музыка: 6/10 Разнообразие: 4/10 Тематика и вайб: 7/10 Цепляемость (отдельные песни зашли): 4/10 Реиграбельность (можно ли рандомно врубить на фон): 8/10 Итог: 5.8

There's not much to say about the album: 12 jazz-rock compositions (I'm neither a musician nor a genres specialist, but I'm pretty sure it can be called that in some way), that are nice to listen on a background once in a while. Nothing amazing or astonishing.

Groupe inconnu. =>3.5/5

I enjoy the music but a whole album of the same stuff is pretty excessive.

A few standout tracks but mostly feels like background music. Good vibe but not irreplaceable by any means.

That's a lot of hammond. now i know where the music for all those scenes in films where they're doing something slightly surreptitious came from

Hauska levy vaikka ei lauletakaan. Osaan arvostaa. Vähän liikaa tuota sähköurkua kun en saundista piittaa, oli kuitenkin taidokasta

Pretty interesting at first, but the more the album goes on the more the sound gets repetitive. It's fun, its's groovy, I understand why it is here, but not sure this will be a main stay and included in the rotation

Starts strong, ends strong, a little soggy in the middle.

some good ones

No Charlie. We found a map, to Candy Mountain. Candy Mountain, Charlie. Yeah, Charlie, we're going to Candy Mountain. Come with us, Charlie. Yeah Charlie, it'll be an adventure. We're going on an adventure, Charlie. CHARLIE Yeah, Candy Mountain, right. I'm just gonna, you know, (puts his head down and closes his eyes) go back to sleep now. Noooo, Charlie. You have to come with us to Candy Mountain. Yeah, Charlie, Candy Mountain. It's a land of sweets and joy...and joyness. Candy Mountain Charlie. Yeah! Candy Mountain! CHARLIE Alright, fine! I'll come with you to Candy Mountain. so much organ

Don’t normally like instrumental music but this was kinda fun

Bonkers

70s detective/buddy cop theme music. I swear several songs are used in movies.

I have heard this Green Onions opening track so many times in my life and it never occurred to me to wonder or figure out what that song was called or who it was by. Wild to play this record and have that song start it off. This was enjoyable enough for sure. It's not surprising that these songs have stood the test of time.

Instrumental was god but the music wasokay

Track 2 was on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, so automatically rounding up

This was pretty cool!

I have heard the track "Green Onions" many times, but this was my first time through the entire album. It was a fun listen. Booker T. was a beast on the organ, and he was backed by a formidable group of musicians, including Steve Cropper.

Yeah, you know that song. It's a good song, it's cool. I don't know how many people wanted a whole album of that song.

It's got some funk, it's got some swing, and it's surely got some groove, but something about this produce seems unproductive, fallow even, as if I've walked past a lunch-hour jam session where everyone knows their parts too well and nobody's particularly interested in surprising themselves.

9/10 for single Green Onions

Green Onions works well as some laid-back background music. It’s pleasant and easy to enjoy without demanding too much attention. Still, it leaves you wishing for a bit more, more variation, more energy, something to push it beyond just “nice.” Solid, but not particularly exciting.

First album I ever reviewed, one hit wonder album

Funky Hintergrundmusik mit 2 Klassikern

2.5 Always loved the title track but I didn't enjoy sitting through a full 40 minutes of that organ.

The song Green Onions stands out far above the other songs on this album, I'm a bit disappointed the rest weren't as good.

almost elevated elevator music, nice to listen too but forgettable

Turns out instrumental soul is a bit like cheeseless pizza. Tasty enough, sure, but it's a shame the best ingredient is missing.

Unique sound and distinct sound scape

Nice smooth instrumental album

Les Alanos from Phoenix Nights vibes!

I’m pleasantly surprised to see this one appear on the list of 1001. This is the debut album for Booker T. & the MGs, and it is an all-instrumental album. Instrumentals were a big part of popular music in the 1950’s and 1960s. Almost all the tracks are covers of other songs from that era. Booker T. (Hammond organ) and Steve Cropper (lead guitar) are still alive and kicking, so maybe they’ll have a reunion.

This album cover has a certain appeal. Not only does it tell it like it is, but the text looks like MS Word WordArt circa 1998. Extremely ahead of its time! Surprisingly, I do know the title song, which according to Wiki is "named after a cat known as Green Onions, whose way of walking inspired the riff". I like that. Probably a chonky cat. :3 OK, I guess these are all instrumentals! I like that too. Although I find it hard to imagine an instrumental finding commercial success these days. I wonder what the most recent one is. (Answer: Google says 'Harlem Shake' in 2013, but that is not what I'd call an instrumental. Anyway, lots of other people asked this question and had the same reaction as me, so that's nice.) Overall, this was fine. Very middle of the road, but unique as an album.

Recognize their sound, and of course the song Green Onions. Just wish this music had vocals to accompany it.

I've heard the title track of this album so many times, but today is when I learned its name. Groovy. The rest of the album is alright, too, though with all of the songs performed in the same style the gimmick wore thin by the halfway point. Still, it was an quirky soundtrack for my Friday. Standout track: Green Onions

I have long heard and enjoyed the title track. Most of this album isn't as classy or enteretaining. A couple tracks are great, and the musicians are top notch, of course. 2.5/5

Great title track but the album lacks depth and feels like a perfunctory collection of 60s rnb tunes that are well-played but lack any excitement. It's good jukebox fodder but would not reward repeat listens. 5/10.

Niiice!

Classic music of like 1,000 movie soundtracks. None of the other songs are quite as eternal as the title track, but they are mostly on the same mood and vibe, so it's not like you'll be disappointed. Just put Booker T down with Nas as two guys who put out memorable game-changing music when they were under 20 years old. 3/5

The first track is 5 stars. Rest is 2

Instrumental old school r&b, rock, and soul with fun organ and a good beat. Well-played, nothing too fancy. Green Onions is a wonderful song. The rest is enjoyable enough but doesn’t stand out much. Nothing bad, nothing wowing.

pré-écoute: je suis tannée de la musique des années 60 :/ post-écoute: pas si pire

Rock and roll organ needs to make a comeback. 3/5

Recognized the title track immediately. Whole album was great, I loved hearing the organ play around with the guitar. Green Onions and You Can’t Sit Down were my favorites.

that one song is genuinely called "green onions"?

Härlig instrumentalplatta! Uppenbart legendarisk, mer än hälften är hits. Kul ljudbild, håller bra fortfarande även om många år på nacken. Funkade fint i bilen. Imponerande och kul att så stark skiva kommit till av en slump. Kommer lyssna igen: ja Bästa spår: Rinky dink Betyg: 6 av 10 (Daniel) 7 av 10 (3 av 5) - Dawid

What is this random mf album I've never heard of it in my li- ohhhhhhh I know this song. Pretty good, laid back, swanky.

This is fun background music. The fourth track, green onions, I unknowingly know quite well from popular culture so it's fun to now know and have this reference. The cover of Twist and Shout is also a lot of fun. Really overall quite enjoyed this, fun background music, nothing too abrasive or offensive.

Green Onions, the song that was used to signify that a character was "cool" in movies for 40 years. Nowadays it sounds very dated, sure. But loose blues/funk (?) really was out of place at the time. Unfortunately, to my ears, it's never as good as the title song.

As charming as I find the concept here, this 3 still feels like a stretch. Something about these songs feels ever so slightly cloying, or maybe unfinished and over-polished at the same time. That said, they certainly put a smile on my face

שומעים באלבום הזה הרבה מאוד שירים של הkinks, doors, deep purple, chicago ועוד אבל האלבום עצמו לא משהו שיר מועדף - green onions

Nothing so far has felt like more of a time capsule than this record. Crazy to think this kind of music was on the charts. Still great but idk how much I'd listen to this again

The title track is incredible but across a whole album it's pretty one-dimensional

Pretty good. I appreciate a good instrumental only album.

Green onions is an iconic album. The album is a slog and ultimately repetitive.

adri: 7, tiene buen ritmillo pero no me ha matado. mar: 6, origenes del blues-rock, solid.

I recognized some of the songs but for what I was doing I wasn't into it.

Um disco mega redondo e onde temos o casamento perfeito de órgão e guitarra, tudo dentro da caixinha deixando cada instrumento ter seu momento de brilhar.

This was ok.

Before: cool. Only familiar previously with the title track. The title track is an awesome piece of music. The rest of the record was always going to struggle to keep up. I'm a bit disappointed at the rate of the fall off though. For a brief moment I thought I might get a bluesy Jimmy smith, but definitely not. So much less energy and not really pulling off a cool feel in a compelling way to me

Green Onions is an all-time great instrumental song and a strong contender for best first track off a debut album. Rinky Dink is not terrific and there are better versions of I Got a Woman. Mo' Onions is an alternate take on their big hit, but I like it. Twist and Shout is not the best version either. A lot of ups and downs on this album because Behave Yourself is really good. Sometimes the Hammond B3 makes it sound like the kind of music you'd play at a funeral. Stranger On the Shore has a They Can't Take That Away from me vibe. I am generally a fan of the organ in popular music, but by this point in One Who Really Loves You, I'm ready for less. Half of this album could be the theme song for a 60s detective show. I love Green Onions, but everything else kind of blends.

The whole thing has this charmingly effortless cool to it. It’s mostly just coasting. All groove. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions: - Green Onions - Rinky Dink - Mo' Onions

They're okay.

It's serviceable.

Can't hear Green Onions and not think about The Sandlot. Iconic tune on a fun album. Definitely captures a space and time in American music.

Where does this instrumental album from 1962 fit for me? I can hear these in a mixtape for a bar-b-q or pool party for sure. "Green Onions", "I Got A Woman", and "Comin Home Baby" all make good sense to me.

Fond memories of this from childhood but doesn't quite live up. 3.5 stars. Closer to 3 than 4.

Cruisy lowkey groove for a Monday. The best song is the most well known but otherwise nice and relaxed

Ok, so this isn’t typically my type of music. I can see how this could be good to listen to after a shit day of work, and you want to unwind without hearing another loser humans voice. And since I had that kind of day it worked for me. Still was kind of a chore to listen to……. But I’m willing to give this a passing grade. Thanks for not singing, but could you also minimize the organ play next time?

Great album loved it. 3 stars.

3 sterne

The hit being the first track of the album always makes for a nerve wracking start - will it all be downhill from there? I actually quite enjoyed all of it, in a background music kinda way. Though this make directly correlate with how much I enjoy Hammond organ on anything. 3/5

I could have sworn the title track was in the Blues Brothers movie but looked it up and I was wrong. Wikipedia says they covered it (which makes sense since Cropper was their guitarist,) but I don't know where I would have seen/heard that. Who knows. This album is obviously a classic but I think it suffers a bit by including instrumental versions of songs that originally had lyrics. "Twist and Shout" almost sounds like an organ in a baseball stadium.

Not entirely suitable for active listening. Great background music.

Fun, but not exactly going to return to it.

Heard of this band but didn’t realize all the music was instrumental. Not bad though.

green onions is so fire. the rest of the album is a vibe too. favourite thing about this album is, of course, that Donald Duck Dunn from the blues brothers was the session bass player.

I’ve had Green Onions in my music library for quite some time but never had the full album experience. Even as talented as Booker T & The MG’s are, I still have a little trouble getting through a whole record of just instrumentals. I do love that organ, but probably in smaller increments. Not 12 straight songs. Again, I think these guys are really talented but listening to this whole album multiple times probably won’t happen. This is a 3 rating for me. 3/5

So many songs you know from samples it's crazy.

Behave Yourself, Lonely Avenue, You Can’t Sit Down, A Woman, A Lover, A Friend, Comin’ Home Baby : d’autres belles pièces, penchant plus du côté du blues. Quand le groupe s’éloigne de ce genre (Rinky Dink, I Got a Woman, Twist and Shout, One Who Really Loves You), je trouve le résultat moins intéressant. Donc... Intéressant, quelques bonnes pièces, mais le tiers de l’album tombe à plat (à mon avis, mais qui suis-je...).

Cool hammond playing, but would have been better with some vocals. 3.5 stars

Green Onions is a pretty good album. Thankfully, it's pretty short, because the instrumental soul/blues stuff does sort of wear on you after a bit. Still, the title track is an all-timer and there's some good covers of "I Got a Woman" and "Twist & Shout". "Behave Yourself" is also cool. 3.5 stars.

A bunch of dusty Hammond blues doodles plus the title song which is actually completely timeless and classic. I guess the album is okay but I would enjoy this album more if the other tracks were deleted and the title song was put on loop 12 times over.

The album started out very strong with the title track, which (like many people I’m sure) I feel like I’ve heard a thousand times without ever knowing how or why I know it. The next 2 or 3 tracks kept me engaged as well. Like every song on the album, they contain so much soul and groove. I did however, by the end, feel as though I’d heard the same song multiple times, and I simply wasn’t in the mood for any more organ solos (as much as I had been enjoying them at the start). I was also thrown of by the ‘Twist and Shout’ cover. I felt removed from the album by the inclusion of an instrumental version of a song I’m already so familiar with. While this isn’t the band’s fault (as this was released before the Beatles’ version with which I’m most familiar) I still felt as though it disrupted my listening flow. Nonetheless, it’s an album I’m glad to have heard.

Latter half is better Mostly unremarkable, but not bad

It’s good. I like this.

Nice listening

Even tho i love green onions I didn't love these.

It's fun but outdated fun. Did not age too well imho. I LOVE the organ here.

Timeless. Green Onions is probably the most famous song that absolutely no one knows the name or where it even came from. It’s a walking around background music 6.0/10

Great entertaining instrumentals but I really need some lyrics to truly enjoy any album.

Onions

Not bad. Lots of music I've heard but didn't know was from this band.

really really fun house band that’s transferable

Great players. I don't love instrumental records in rock necessarily but this is a good one

Can hear the influence on later music but also felt at times like I was on a seaside pier.

If there were one ever track to define ‘sauve cool’, it would be Green Onions. I adore it. It’s just a shame the rest of the album doesn’t quite stack up the same, but maybe that’s just an impossible task.

It's a chill instrumental, and the big single is cool, but I just kinda start tuning out of the album. Still something that would be good for some background ambiance

Sample, the album. Fun listen, had some simple yet groovy records

Some certified classic blues riffs in this one. Fun to experience the history but all tracks being blues instrumental leaves me wanting a bit more

You’ll recognize a lot of these from sports arenas, commercials and radio talk shows.

Funky folk

Short instrumental album, of it's time. Good background music with some good toe tappers. Would suit a Tarintino soundtrack.

A fun new album to listen to when I need to do some groovy tasks.

A nice listen while walking the dogs as it was nice background music.

Bit unsure what I'm listening to here. Instrumental electric organ/early 60s "groovy baby" type stuff?

While I know and enjoy the title track, my assumption that this album would be a bit of a repetitive slog to get through was proven correct. Another album that is best to pick and choose from, rather than listening to the whole thing front to back. That being said, the cover of Comin' Home Baby slaps.

Although I was pretty sure I'd heard something from this band, and at least one song would likely be familiar from this album, I was impressed that the opening title track would be as iconic as it is. And I'm not sure I've ever appreciated until now that "Green Onions" (the song) is an instrumental--I can't think of many classics that have endured that are strictly instrumentals (even "Tequila" has that one lyric). It's also interesting, although a bit disappointing, that the *entire* album is composed strictly of instrumentals, mainly because the tracks on this album aren't long-lasting jam sessions, or even particularly musically complicated, and most are covers of songs that originally *had* lyrics. Maybe the album was meant to be played at parties as a poppy background? The more I listened, the more it felt like a weird novelty album. But those onions are pretty compelling, I'll admit ("Green" and "Mo"), and I also enjoyed their renditions of "I got a woman" and "Twist & shout".

Enjoyable instrumentals. Can see the influence it had. Wouldn’t mind another listen

1962. Iconic and groovin throughout. Southern Soul in a simpler time. All instrumental songs that stick with you.

Enjoyable, but repetitive.

Får jo lyst å handla på dressmann

Cool to understand these guys better and put a name to the first track, but got pretty tedious. 3 for the music, 2 for getting bored listening… low 3 overall

Started off strong. Pretty good album for instrumental music, which I'm not typically into. Solid 3*.

Favorites: Green Onions, Rinky Dink, Mo' Onions I'm unsure as to whether I want to call this ballpark music core, movie theater organ core, or Napoleon Dynamite score core, but I think it's fun enough in any case. Not my thing for a full LP, but for what it's worth the title track is iconic and wonderful, and as are some of the more memorable riffs that have stood the test of time.

It’s a real cool funky instrumental album. I have to say I personally find it harder to connect to music without vocals. Anyway super cool super influential three stars. Crazy to think it was released in the early sixties.

Was consistent, they knew what sound they were going for.

Nice lol

I feel like if I was playing a southern version of super Mario bros, yeehaw. I like it, it adds excitement to any mundane task and I’m glad they kept it without lyrics, which I feel would clash with the smooth flow of the music. I think they manage to captivate a joyous, playful and energetic atmosphere without the need of lyrics. They remind me of Otis Redding who creates a similar atmosphere.

Mindede mig faktisk lidt om Bongo Rock? Positiv overraskelse

I really liked this. The organ sounded great. The arrangements were solid, and a lot of them were songs that I knew.

Just background music. Definitely not bad and has its moments, but most songs don't catch my attention with their pretty basic and repetitive melodies.

In a nutshell: when session musicians make their own album... The first time I heard Booker T. & The MG's was on The Sandlot, where Smalls and Benny's mates have a roast battle with the rival (ie cashed up) junior baseball team. Iconic. I like an instrumental album, but there is a lack of variety on here. Specifically with the Hammond organ. Title track, brilliant. Some covers are okay. Overall: 5/10

i liked this a lot. i can see myself listening to this while doing crafts in my home with a candle lit. weirdly cozy?

6,5/10 Highlights Green Onions

This album is also known as "Oh, that's where that song/riff is from."

Green Onions was the birth of not o my Stax Records but the entire Soul Genre, and the Blues Brothers! With the guitar work of Steve Cropper, Al Jackson on drums, keys by the famous Booker T. Jones and bass work by a personal favorite Donald Duck Dunn, these four guys made history! So…the rest of the album…. This is one of those albums that’s hard to judge because it has significant historical roots, great musicians in their prime (their early 20s), and a record company in the rise, but the album as a whole is kind of forgettable. There are some key tracks such as the bluesy Comin’ Home Baby and stranger on the Shore, which show their Memphis combo of country, blues and gospel roots which would define Soul music in the mid-to-late ‘60s. However, this is not exactly a throw-on-after-work album, unless you are a mortician or a baseball organ player. There is a reason Green Onions was a single-45. I may be rating this too high.

9 instrumental cover songs out on a 12-song album? Sorry, besides Green Onions, which I've heard, I don't see redeeming qualities to this album.

Just OK.

Good collection of instrumentals. Some I think I even recognized, but can't place where from. Nothing bad to say. Don't imagine myself remembering this one

What is Green Onions? (4 seconds later) OH Ok background music for household chores but I can’t see myself seeking it out in the future unless I was having a themed party.

Just from the opening notes, you know it should be included. Great for exposure on music history and a solid listen.

Археология.

Crazy how many familiar instrumentals from this project have been covered, sampled, etc. It's a pretty important album to music as a whole. That said, pretty much all of the iterations spun from these songs are improved versions. I'll give it a 4 for impact on the industry and 2 for actual listenability. Averaging out to a 3.

Groovy, no lyrics

Marvelous Green Onions - and then Rinky Dink with a Fender Telecaster...

It was good and jazzy. Some really fun songs. Really good background music.

some killer, some filler

Fun and recognizable but as an album it's very monotonous.

Good, something I would listen to at a restaurant and enjoy without thinking much

Mild background blues, used in soundtracks for a reason.

Didn’t necessarily dislike it, nor did it make me feel really much of anything. Maybe I’m just not the biggest organ fan, who knows. Did serve as some nice life background music, I especially liked the slower, more bluesy tracks. Overall, probably a 3/5

Como puedo puntuar mal un album teniendo un piano tan prendido fuego? Que se yo, seguramente no lo vuelva a escuchar pero le encuentro la genialidad en todos lados. Nota: 3.4

Its a good fun album. All songs are instrumental which is fine, but towards the end they do tend to sound the same. Good effort tho

I really like green onions but the rest was not quite as good, sounded almost like kid tunes.

Just instrumentals

There's a lot of "cool" on this album that doesn't entirely make up for some of the clashes in sound, or the fact that a lot of this sounds like one track played through over and over

I like Booker T. & The MG's; I like the title track; I like instrumental music featuring a funky organ - evidenced by the two Jimmy Smith records I own and play regularly - but this album just didn’t work for me. I wouldn’t call it bad, but it’s one great iconic song and then 32 minutes of filler. Pretty decent filler, but filler just the same.

A mixed bag for me... I love the title song! Yes it's 12-bar blues but it has this unique sound with the organ and a very catchy groove. But - the album has only three original songs, the other nine are covers. The originals are the best by far, IMO. The covers would have been great fun at dance parties in the early sixties but aren't my thing (I find them all worse than the originals). Because this album is a bit of a one trick pony, and it's mostly covers, I can't give it more than a 3 even though this is an influential album with an interesting sound.

Once upon a time, in a bustling garden filled with vibrant vegetables, there lived a green onion named Booker T. Booker T was no ordinary green onion; he had a dream that set him apart from the rest. While other vegetables were content with their roles in soups, stews, and stir-fries, Booker T yearned for something more. He wanted to be part of the perfect tuna salad. Booker T had heard tales of the legendary tuna salad from the wise old carrot, who had once been part of a grand feast. The carrot spoke of the harmony of flavors, the balance of textures, and the sheer delight of being part of such a dish. Inspired by these stories, Booker T set out on a journey to find his place in the perfect tuna salad. His first stop was the herb garden, where he sought advice from Basil, the sage of seasonings. "Basil, how can I become part of the perfect tuna salad?" Booker T asked earnestly. Basil smiled warmly and replied, "To be part of the perfect tuna salad, you must first understand the essence of balance. The tuna salad is a symphony of flavors, and each ingredient must play its part harmoniously. You, Booker T, bring a sharp, fresh note that can elevate the entire dish." Encouraged by Basil's words, Booker T continued his journey. He met with Celery, who taught him the importance of crunch, and Pickle, who shared the secret of adding a tangy twist. Each encounter brought Booker T closer to his dream. Finally, Booker T arrived at the kitchen, where the chef was preparing for a grand feast. The chef looked at Booker T and smiled. "Ah, a green onion with a dream," the chef said. "Let's see if you have what it takes to be part of the perfect tuna salad." With great care, the chef chopped Booker T into fine pieces, mixing him with tender chunks of tuna, crisp celery, tangy pickles, and a creamy dressing. As Booker T blended with the other ingredients, he felt a sense of fulfillment. He had found his place, and together, they created a tuna salad that was nothing short of perfection. The guests at the feast marveled at the delicious tuna salad, praising its perfect balance of flavors. Booker T had achieved his dream, and in doing so, he had become part of something greater than himself. And so, Booker T, the green onion with a dream, found his place in the perfect tuna salad, bringing joy to all who tasted it. His journey was a testament to the power of dreams and the beauty of finding one's true purpose.

honestly it sounds good it’s just not my favorite i almost fell asleep listening to it but that doesn’t mean it’s bad it’s pretty like comforting id say

Listened to the 1962 mono version. Green Onions - the whole album, but more specifically the song - reminds me of jamming with my friends in high school. We weren't nearly as cool as this album, though. Favourite song(s): Green Onions, Mo' Onions, Behave Yourself, Comin' Home Baby. I kind of wish the whole album was just Green Onions/Mo' Onions for 35 minutes.

I mean, it's okay I guess. At least it is the OG blues wankage instead of derivative blues wankage.

Not bad. An enjoyable little blues/rock album. Feels like these songs were in a ton of 80’s or 90’s movies usually as background music when the new kid in town rolls up on his BMX bike and takes off his sunglasses and stares into the camera to let you know that he’s “cool”

Recently finished a great documentary on Stax Records on Now TV. Satisfying to put records like this into context. That title track is just a classic. One of those songs that feels like it's always existed. More a part of culture than a song in its own right. Rest is mostly enjoyable enough filler.

An album of instrumentals, nether the less still a good sound. Triggering many a cover.

Would have been groundbreaking in its time, though it sounds like very generic RnB these days.

A bit like Mike and his organ end of the pier show! Listenable but not memorable.

Yeah, that song is on it.

They really just had one song.

I always had a sweet spot for those instrumental retro albums, especially when they're organ focused. A great and pleasant listen, even if I can't call it a masterpiece at all.

Some really high points.

Songs all sound similar.

Good vibes, definitely gets old quick, but if I heard this in 1962 I think I would have played it on repeat

Good background music not my style for active listening

Instrumental. Lots of familiar sounds. Good stuff.

Instrumental R&B. Didn't know what to expect when I started this album but it hits you with a very recognizable track straight out of the gate. Don't see myself reaching for this one often, but it does make a pretty pleasant background for working.

Wish everything was as great as the title track.

Instrumental old school honky tonk

After Green Onions the album becomes background music. Does not draw me in in a meaningful way. Pleasant enough. 5/10

65/1001 - Messy and samey. Opening track is very good.

All a swingy kinda soulful sound. Easy listen that didn't wow in any way either. 3.5

Very good listen. Nothing particularly standout besides the title track, but an overall pleasing groove and some sexy ones too.

I have definitely heard of this artist. And I know this song right off the bat, damn baseball anthem song. I know nothing else but Green Onions by Booker T.

A pleasant listening experience. Good job Green Onions is a good song because half the album seemed to be based around it 3/5

Lot o onions

Solid stuff, not too much to write home abt. Green onions always makes me think of the Sandlot scene where the rich baseball team pulls up on their bikes Fav song: Green Onions

Wouldn’t choose to listen on my own but not bad for what it is

Fun music. Reminds me of baseball, The Sandlot and childhood.

Why don't they make the whole album out of "Green Onions"? I could listen to that track endlessly. The rest of the album is okay, but only a couple more tracks catch the ear and the organ music gets a bit repetitive.

Decent Album, an old time classic! Some of the songs were amazing but overall quite good

++: Green Onions, I Got a Woman, Mo' Onions, Twist and Shout, Behave Yourself, Stranger on the Shore, Lonely Avenue, You Can't Sit Down +:A Woman, a Lover, a Friend, Comin' Home Baby +-: Rinky Dink, One Who Really Loves You 7,6/10

Hmmm best leuk maar instrumentaal

Excellent background music, not really worth an active listen though.

I quite like the Hammond organ in mid 60s Dylan, but here I don't love it. I don't necessarily dislike this album, but the concept of recording instrumental versions of other people's songs does make me feel like something is missing. Songs like Green Onions work well in film soundtracks, but I don't listen to many film soundtracks on their own, except a few by jazz greats. I suppose wind instruments can replace the human voice, but I find instrumental albums with only guitar/piano etc. to be lacking something like a human voice if I'm actively listening.

Classic sound of organ and backing fender guitar

Huge amount of respect to this band, but this album feels stuffed with filler and non-essentials aside some very good instrumental pieces.

This is fine but doesn't seem like a must. Nice background music. Bet a lot of these tracks have been sampled in hits over the decades.

Can't deny the importance of this band and this album (and the Stax label). Some of the songs on here are great (as is the title track, of course). Some of it feels a little bit like filler, but that's how it was back then. Solid album.

Green Onions might be the most well known song that most people don't know the name of. It's great, and I wish there was more of it. So I was pleasantly surprised by Mo' Onions, which is just what I wanted. Most of the rest of the album is instrumental covers of other big hits, and though they're good, those songs were written with lyrics, and they do feel like they're missing something. The other original, Behave Yourself, feels complete, so this seems inevitable if you're going to do instrumental covers. They're interesting and well performed covers, but I'd prefer a recording of more originals. They are clearly great musicians, and I'd love to hear them really embrace that.

green onions song is lightning in a bottle/ more onions is the afterglow. the rest of the album is so-so. if you like soul music or organ music, it probably does a lot for you- it's all very well played by a super-tight band. it's just not my thing. I dig it a bit more when the blues brothers stand in front of them....

i had a busy day today, i couldn't really find time to properly sit down and listen to the album. in the end i listened to the album in the background while doing house work. i enjoyed it but definitely want to go back and give it a more focused listen.

Nix schlechtes aber hat mich nicht umgeworfen

A really catchy and enjoyable instrumental R&B/soul record, with a distinctive Hammond organ sound front and centre. It would perfectly soundtrack various daily tasks like doing the washing up, spreading toast or walking through a town or city.

No más instrumental T.T

Good listen. I didn’t know I knew the title track, but I totally did. Had no idea the artist or song title, but there it was leading off Green Onions. This genre is not my favorite and this album didn’t do anything to change that, but at ~35 minutes, it was a nice break from the usual.

I don’t think BT&TMGs were an album band. This sounds OK, cool and laid-back, but it doesn’t feel very relevant today.

tarkistus kävi... lista läpi... obj. 3..

Yeah this went alright, good background listening.

Really groovy stuff, I instantly recognized the opening track. Lots of great grooves on here and a lot of elements I've heard elsewhere too, a strong 3 here for me.

I liked Green Onions but wasnt sure if i needed a full album. It turns out it was ok. The sound, the vibe and the generally chilled happiness that permeates through this makes it pass happily, but theres not much in the way of originality and interest here.

This is decent, pretty laid back rhythm and blues. The organ has a bit of a churchy or basebally vibe to me Whole style becomes slightly stale after a while, just guitar and organ playing off each other with little to break it up or add some variety. Because of that, and the whole thing being instrumental, it does feel quite samey. Behave Yourself slows it down quite a bit so that does help break it up a hit I do like the title track but it's become advert music, or the sort of thing you hear during a montage to indicate the passage of time or some hard work being done 3.5 Highlights: Green Onions, Behave Yourself

Good music to have in the background while doing chores. Very upbeat and full of hooks. The simple melodies will stick in my head for a bit. I don't think I'll go out of my way to listen again soon, but I enjoyed this album while it was on

This was nice!

very nice but honestly if it weren’t for the title track would we give a crap?

Booker T and the MGs are kind of a one-trick pony. It's a good trick, don't get me wrong. The sound has a good groove, the keys are nice and funky, and it's just an enjoyable listen. However, it gets old after a while. I guess this album is really just nice background music, and not necessarily something I would dig into over and over to get deeper into it. There are some absolute bangers, and obviously "Green Onions" is the shining star, but beyond that it's just a solid listen and nothing more.

I love the title track, and the whole album is good. A bit on the sleepy side as a whole

Too much Hammond organ after a while

Of it’s time, nice enough to listen too if a bit samey-samey. No need to listen to much beyond green onions as you’ll get the vibe of the entire album. Fun keys in many places and in summary this is decent early shift music at the legendary Café Kelvinos

Great chill funk music. Fully instrumental which isn't a problem, but doesn't leave that big of an impression. The title track is legendary though.

Somehow it rung a bell when seeing the artist and album name pop up... Who knows how many times i'd heard that song without knowing what it was called. The rest of the album is top quality elevator music, not bad but a bit mild.

An incredible band and one incredible song. And some other stuff.

Норм

This was so much less terrible than I was expecting. It was actually sort of cool in a nerdy pre-hippie middle-schooler thick-framed-glasses sort of way, ya know?

Dug it but in the end its a lot of covers and sorta blurs together

Listening to this album really drives home just how influential it really was. I feel like this really laid down the rudiments for what would become the most basic rock, funk, and popular rhythms and grooves. It’s not something that I would put on just for the sake of it really, but it’s influence can’t be denied and it’s definitely a fun time.

Ja classic maar ook weer eentonig blues ofzo

Dislike instrumentals

Fun little album, but nothing too special. It was definitely unique with its combination of instruments and almost surf rock feel, yet often times I missed some lyrics, which would've added to the fun. Overall the record is plain fun its something you listen to if you aren't feeling too serious. Favorite track: Green Onions. Overall score: 6.0/10

Instrumental album, couple classics that anyone would recognise, easy listen to cook to.

Saknas något

it was not bad, but nothing stood out, something i would probably listen to again in the background. but mot to sit down and listen to

Whimsical and fun these popular songs using a Hammond Organ instead of vocals emphasize the musical talents of the band.

Enjoyed the title track, but covers are not what I expected on this list

Good but quite repetitive. Green onions was great though.

Nice BG/instrumental songs. Nothing special, but pleasant to listening.

not my favourite, i love the instrumentals and i can see why it became a big hit in it's time period but i see it as a fit for a specifc vibe but not generally blasting it on a random

A pleasant listen. I was quite entertained and I actually saved this album for future listening, but that is mainly because of its nature. So easy to listen to and good for kind of background music, while actually being decent quality. It's limited though and the vibes get a bit too similar after a while. A strong 3.

This is an enthusiastic “ok”. The title track throws thunderbolts down on everything around it, but the record is consistently pleasant. It just makes me wish they’d stretched to write more of their own compositions, rather than this bunch of covers that slide smoothly down amnesia alley. Gives me the feeling of walking into a sleazy bar in an old movie, which I like. 2.5⭐️

a pretty cool album in certain moments, just sneaking in at a 3 star rating of 60

nice and cruisy, but boring

What an unusual album... all instrumentals with the first track "Green Onions" being well known and used to this day in commercials and movies--almost timeless in a way. And the rest of the tracks are reaaaallll dated sounded. It's the keyboard sound that dates it the most. It makes it feel like a joke song. They feel like songs I would use in a spot that something silly is happening in. Like the spots I did a long time about about a guy whose roommate is the Earth and he is being a douche to the Earth.

Great organ but all the songs started to blend together

This is a fun album to listen to! Apart from the title track, not any other particular song to highlight, but still a great ride.

Instrumental sound of the 50’s and 60’s. Good music.

Не моё, но мотивы знакомые

It's a fun album, but the title track outshines most of the rest of the album.

“Green Onions” is about as cool and smooth a track as one can get. The rest of the album made me feel like I was at the hippest skating rink or ballpark around. It’s too bad the organ-sound has been co-opted in that way. Was a little hard to take it seriously.

green onions is phenomenal but literally every other song on this album is a cover which sounds like they added 5% of green onions into.

Fun but not particularly great, feeling more like a novelty than anything else.
