Reviews (page 3 of 14)

This was very soft. It was hazy, in a way. Dreamlike. The Last Resort was a great finisher for the album. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning. New Kid in Town was great. I hear Hotel California and Life In The Fast Lane weekly. Victim Of Love will be getting more plays by me. Fantastic album.

a classic. quality is very high

Favoriten Hotel california New Kid in town Wasted Time Pretty maids all in a row Try and love again

Legendary album. Not just the hits but it's pretty great all the way through, I also particularly enjoy Wasted Time and Try to Love Again. Not sure it's musically that ground breaking but these are just really solid songs, good harmonies, good guitar solos, cynical lyrics. What's not to like?

Ekstra. 5/5. Lubię taki rock hardrock z lat 70 i 80.

Sounds like a blast, I just hope it doesn't have Bed Bugs.

The Joe Walsh contribution stands out, of course. Perfect.

Welcome to the Hotel California—such a lovely place, such a lovely face, and somehow still one of the most hauntingly perfect albums ever made. From the edge-of-paradise mystique of the title track to the wild rhythm of Life in the Fast Lane, this album walks the line between dream and disillusion. New Kid in Town is heartbreak with a smile, Wasted Time aches in all the right places, and yes—Pretty Maids All in a Row still gets an invite to the party. Try and Love Again? Don’t need to. This album already nailed it. It’s The Last Resort, the top shelf, the forever play. You can check out any time you like… but you’ll never want to leave.

Awesome album. Top 20 all time!

I have not listened to this album in its entirety in years. I must say it is excellent from beginning to end. The songs all meld together great so it feels symmetrical as you weave from one stpry to another. This album shows the talents of all the songwriters in the band and highlights the great playing from each member. Favorite songs are “Victim Of Love”, Life in the Fast Lane”, “The Last Resort”, and of course the title track.

When I was 15, I took a trip to the East Coast to visit family. Lots of driving from New Jersey to Maine, so I had my trusty Walkman with me. When we stopped to see my brother in New Hampshire, he gave me Hotel California on cassette. On the drive from Concord all the way up to the most northern part of Maine, it's about an 8 hour drive, and it's nothing but trees, I had that tape on constant rotation. This may be the first time I have listened to the full album since that trip, 35 years later. So let's see if I enjoy the album as much as I did back then. The title track, in my opinion, is one of the greatest songs ever written, multiple interpretations of the words, a classic rhythm and melody, and an excellent solo and instrumental section to end the track. But that is just track one, how does the rest of the album stand up? I was just watching an interview with Billy Corgan last night, and he was mentioning how musicians just know when they have that hit song or record that is going to be remembered. So it's interesting that the Eagles released New Kid in Town as their lead off single for this album. They had to know Hotel California was the song that was going to carry this album. Regardless, New Kid is a great Glenn Frey song. Probably the only bad part of this album, is we only get one Frey song. I think the beauty of this album is the pace. It has all the ups and downs in all the right places as the third track is a banger with Life in the Fast Line, then we bring it back down with Wasted Time to end side one. We start side two off with another great rocker, Victim of Love, then it wouldn't be a classic Eagles album without Joe Walsh, and Pretty Maids All In A Row. The second half definitely mellows out, as Randy Meisner gives us another slower piece with Try and Love Again, but this does not slow down the momentum as we prep into the epic closer with The Last Resort. There is something to be said about 35 years ago, without the need to pull out my smartphone and look up every detail of this album. Just to have the grayish cassette with the song titles to look at, and just the music and your own thoughts to take you away. That old cassette is long gone, lost to time, but my love for this album remains. So I think I will be upgrading that old cassette, for the current preferred listening format ... new vinyl.

Pretty much impossible not to give this 5 stars. The bookend tracks are amongst the best of this genre/era, shades of Thunder Road/Jungleland as far as storytelling and thematic strength. The instruments across the album are so freaking tight. Having different voices and feeling is also a major strength for them. Pretty Maids All in a Row and Try and Love Again didn't hit as hard as the rest of the songs, but I'd like to listen to this album more frequently and really let them hit because there's still stuff to love.

One of my favourite albums. Absolutely fantastic

Classic.

a classic album... every song is a banger... five stars... Don Henley was established as the lead singer... of the 8 songs, he is lead singer on five... one each get Frey, Walsh, and Meisner... and they all hit homeruns... a first ballot hall of fame album.

Some really good depth. I enjoyed this - driving down the I-5 south in California.

Wasted Time is an aptly named song. However, the rest of the album is comfortable listening and fits like a 10 year old Birkenstock. Hotel California (song) is genius and somehow doesn't get old.

One of the classics. The only downside is that this one has been so overplayed over the years, but there's still magic here.

This album was released when I was a college student. The Eagles were pretty big at the time and this album propelled them to a super duper top band. Just about everyone had the album then (not me, strangely). I know every song on the album except the Joe Walsh track. The Eagles promoted the album with a tour in early 1977, with Jimmy Buffett as the opening act. Jimmy was just getting popular back then. I saw that show at the Richfield Coliseum (which no longer exists). I think having seen the band in concert requires me to give the album a high rating.

Thought I’d hate it. Never listened to the eagles before so there must be a reason. Loved it. Great singers, great guitarists.

Excellent 👌

I don’t think I can name a single complaint I have with this record. It’s truly a classic. It’s really hard to overstate what a massive positive impact Joe Walsh joining the eagles had. The title track is legendary, but the rest of album really stands up. A bunch of musicians from the south recording an album about California in recording studios in both LA and Miami makes this, in my opinion, one of the best and most American rock albums of all time. It’s got just enough of that country twang shining through to differentiate itself from a lot of contemporary albums, but it never feels forced or fake. The song “Wasted Time” has always stood out to me as being crushing and beautiful at the same time. It’s far and away my favourite Eagles song. This is one of those records that I’ll put on every few months, and I love listening to it every time. 5*

I have no need to listen to this. I know how good it is. I will though. 5/5

Between the SoCal-Laurel Canyon themes, the storytelling, the guitar brilliance, the excellent harmonies, and especially having Joe Walsh spread his vocal wings (pun intentional) and belt out a ballad, this is purely majestic. VICTIM OF LOVE ~ NEW KIND IN TOWN ~ LIFE IN THE FAST LANE just straight cAsH mOnEy!!

This one is a no-brainer for me. One of my favs.

One of the best overall albums ever. Stacked with hits.

Classic

There's not a lot to say about this album that everybody doesn't already know. It was the #1 album in 1977, the year I graduated from high school. Personally I've worn it out, but there's a couple of tracks on there, namely "Wasted Time" and "Victim of Love" that are timeless to me and which I consider the best on the album. If this album doesn't deserve 5 stars I don't know what would qualify.

i lovee this album my favs r probs hotel California and the last resort but rly all the songs r amazing also new kid in town, life in the fast lane, try and love again, pretty maids all in a row honestly the whole album is so amazing

Love you mom! You’re favorite album is here

iconic

A beautiful masterpiece, creating waves through each track. Really taking you on a journey

This is really good! I guess I never really listened to the eagles. I knew of hotel california but I don’t think my brain knew it was them

Nonstop bangers. They could re-release this album as a Greatest Hits album and I wouldn't bat an eye. Badass technical guitar work, some of the best harmonies in rock, (mostly) good songwriting, and solid band cohesion make this a Top 10 album for me. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This album has this one great track which is Hotel California.

This album is the definition of a deep cut. So many massive hits. One of the all time greatest albums made.

Hating on the Eagles is dumb... Hotel California, the track, is a masterpiece, and the whole album is a solid 5 even w/o this song.

One of the best American bands

Love this one.

Awesome album. Great song after great song.

Nothing groundbreaking but they are the best at what the do. And this is their best

Best Eagle album by far. This should be in everyone's collection.

If a near perfect album was ever made, it is this one. From the guitar master class by Felder/Walsh in the title song, "Hotel California", to Don Henley's soaring vocal in "The Last Resort", from start to finish, it is onenof the best albums, ever.

Absolutely beautiful, love this song, it’s pretty popular and for good reason. If you don't know what song to play at a white dad party this is probably your best option. The lyrics are fantastic start to finish, no notes. I still wish I had the strength and memory to learn the guitar riff without my fingers falling off.

As with most Eagles albums, everything by Glenn Frey or Don Henley - which is most of the album - is extraordinary.

Like catching up with an old friend.

I cannot recall ever listening to this album, yet I knew virtually every song. When I was a small, small kid, I definitely listened to a ton of Eagles, especially Greatest Hits vol 2 (which explains knowing four of these), The Long Run, and Hell Freezes Over (which explains another three of these). Ah, there we go, only “try and love again” hasn’t been permanently etched into my brain. I knew I’d know the first 3 big singles, but it was a pleasant surprise getting hit with nostalgia on every other song, too. “Hotel California” was one of the first songs to make me realize lyrics can have deeper meanings, too. (Before that, I was not probing Kriss Kross for meaning. They’ll make you jump. Full stop.) Also, in the “life is funny” category: distinctly remember listening to “the long run” on cassette tape while I played video games, age 10 or so. Today, how’d I listen to this album? On my phone while playing video games. Hard not to give that a 5: I’ve loved all these songs for a long time. Maybe not “life in the fast lane,” which sounds the most dated, but some of the others hold up. I may have to hand in my hipster card. I will also say, apart from any nostalgia: these guys can write a great final minute of a song. I’m not confident the songs in whole would stand on their own if I was just hearing them for the first time, but the last minutes of Hotel California, New Kid in Town, and Try and Love Again introduce musical ideas that are the best parts of the songs (the entire solo of HC is its best part), the final minute of Wasted Time complicates its lyrics interestingly, and the final minutes of Victim of Love and Life in the Fast Lane just thump you over the head with their respective best parts, which is never a bad songwriting idea. The final minute of The Last Resort is a fitting coda to the song and album. I award no bonus points to the final minute of pretty maids. You really blew it, pretty maids.

Awesome classic.

I personally think this is the best Eagles album. Amazing beginning to end.

Epic rock album. "Hotel California" is legendary, as is "Life in the Fast Lane." "Wasted Time" comes at the right time in the record to slow things down a little bit, and the vocals are very strong in that song. The guitar on this record just shines through from start to finish, you go Joe Walsh. "Pretty Maids All In a Row" and "The Last Resort" don't quite work as well as many of the other songs on here for me on first listen, but overall great record.

Fantastic

5 stars.

Classic for a reason....can't hate on it.

This is one of the most revolutionary soft rock albums of all time. It is quite pleasant.

Y'know, come to think of it, I'm not actually too sure why The Dude hates the Eagles. I don't think he ever really gives a specific reason why... Which, I mean, given the state he was in when he said he hated the Eagles, I don't think he was in too much of a mood. If I could throw out a wild guess, I suppose if you hate typical 70's rock an album like this ain't gonna do much for you. Y'know, this is no real frills 70's rock, unlike Creedence with their swamp thing, or Dylan with his folky-ness, or First Edition and their hard psych. No, this is just **the** typical sound of 70's rock, take it or leave it. And I'll take it all the way to the damn bank, thank you very much. I believe this is the first time I've found a "classical genre" album for a whole decade. Like, if I were to imagine what 70's rock sounded like without much extra added on top of it, like Queen's theatricality, Led Zeppelin's heaviness or Elvis Costello's nerdiness, I think I'd end up coming pretty close to this. That's up to and including the CSN(Y) harmonies, even, and they're my favorite part of this album next to how fuckin' hard the guitars on this thing rock. Seriously, I always knew the guitar work on the title track ripped, from the moment it starts to the twin solos at the end, but goodness me. This is just so much, at the most basic level, the shit I wanna hear from a 70's rock album. And I really wanna emphasize that, like with every other "classical genre" album I talk about, being a genre at its most basic isn't a bad thing. Sometimes all you want are meat and potatoes, no extra garnish. But I tell you, it takes a true talent to make meat and potatoes rival more gourmet dishes, and I think Eagles are chefs like that. Now, the thing for me is that I kind of didn't even expect this. See, when I think of the Eagles beyond "Hotel California" (and before now I've never heard this album beyond that song), I tend to think of, like... Soft country rock. Stuff like "Desperado" or "Lyin' Eyes" or, honestly, this one parody of the Eagles I heard called "Dead Cicada". And it's not like this country influence can't be heard across this album (particularly in those aforementioned CSN(Y) harmonies, and a little bit of slide guitar here and there), but goodness, I'unno what happened ONE OF THESE NIGHTS and here that got them to rock the hell up so much, but I sure as heck appreciate it. Well, shucks. I think I'm gonna hafta enter this album into my 70's rock album rotation then. It sure as heck proves it and then some, even just by the guitar work (to bring them up one more time) if nothing else. I always knew I was gonna give this album high marks 'coz of the title track, but it makes me very happy to know that the rest of it holds up, much like something like Rush's 2112 or Funkadelic's MAGGOT BRAIN. It's an easy, easy, **easy** 5 from me, and if I wasn't late on getting this review out and didn't need to hop over to the next album on my group's docket, shucks, I'd listen to this all over again right after I finished writing this. Well, it looks like I'm gonna hafta wait a little longer, 'coz believe me, I'll be checking in again as soon as I can.

a Classic of 70's rock, no doubt about it. Solid 5 Stars.

I’m at a 10. I always assumed this would get high marks from me whenever it came up – my dirty little secret is that I’ve never listened to the full album. Everyone on the planet knows “Hotel California”, but past that, I’ve never listened to another Eagles song ever. I know about the talents of Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and the rest of the band, and I know that a compilation album of theirs is the best-selling album of all time in the U.S., so I figured the talent had to be potent, and the hype had to make sense. I always assumed this was going to be a 4 at bare minimum. Boy, I wasn’t expecting this though – this is up there with Band on the Run for me as a seminal 70s album, and that’s on a first listen. Someone else has probably written words that could praise these compositions better than I ever could. Perhaps there’s an irony that I’ll end up writing more about Mariah Carey than I will about an album like this, but I just… ugh. The only real “eh” here is “Pretty Maids All in a Row”, and even then, I still liked that one a lot. Every other track hits like crack – there isn’t a miss among the other 8, and that includes the lovely orchestration of “Wasted Time (Reprise)”. It’s about as good of a 70s rock album as I’ve ever heard with this sort of style – it’s got a nice country lean that just attunes me even more to it, and I truly think the mixing is perfect. Every single instrument sounds more crisp than I’ve heard on almost any other 70s album, and it just makes each track feel that much better to listen to. The lyrics are great too, and the emotion gets pulled out from the vocals in a way that makes them both feel even better. I’m serious when I say that there hasn’t been a 70s rock album that’s worked this well for me since Band on the Run, and in terms of an initial impact, I feel oddly close to how Rumours absolutely blew me away. I can’t bottle up that feeling into words that can truly aptly describe my currently rattled brain, but just know that this is a high, high recommendation. I have been sleeping on the Eagles for far too long, and I need to listen to more of their stuff. They are far, far beyond just “Hotel California” as a single song, and even if most of the tracks here do qualify under “70s dad rock”, I can only hope the rest of their discography is just as good “70s dad rock”, because I’ll rock with it as long as it rocks. As far as this album goes, this is a 10, through and through – just a fantastic album.

I dont care how dadrock and uncool Eagles and this record is. There only good songs on it, and both the riffing and vocal harmonizing are pure gold. Love it!

The first album by the Eagles that grabbed me. As tight and talented as they were in the past, I needed something heavier and this delivered

Top notch

Um the answer is always hell yes regarding the Eagles. This is an album i reserve my 5 star ratings for

Great album. Well paced.

5/5. This is just a greatest hits album. Sometimes, a band will release an album that just includes only great, well-written songs. Each song, even the ones not well known, are just perfect. The guitar work has a good mix of heavy and soft. The vocals are beautiful and the strings in almost every song are gorgeous. The last song is not a masterpiece but it has a special place here. Just a great album overall. Best Song: Wasted Time, Hotel California, Try and Love Again

Parents didn't listen to (much) secular music but they did listen to this album. Man I loved this thing.

Хотел Калифорния песня это моя римская империя, остальные песни плюс вайб, чилловые для фона, добавила себе

1976. Rock. 9/10 Hotel California / New Kid in Town / Life in the Fast Lane / Wasted Time / Wasted Time" (Reprise) / Victim of Love / Pretty Maids All in a Row / Try and Love Again / The Last Resort

Love the eagles

Plenty of room at the Hotel California Any Time of Year You can find me here Overplayed Overjoyed That penultimate song always throws me off

Classic album with a 70's sound that still fresh and relevant in the here and now

Even if you aren't a fan of this band you can't deny these are some great songs

It’s become fashionable to hate the Eagles, and some of them don’t seem to be particularly likable people, the current touring version of the band is a cynical money grab. The truth is, in the 1970s, they were very good at what they did. I still listen to Desperado on a fairly frequent basis but I haven’t listened to Hotel California for a good few years. It’s an excellent album. There isn’t a bad song on it. It’s well played, it’s incredibly well produced, and Don Henley, no matter that he appears to mime certain songs these days, was an excellent singer. Meisner and Frey were good too but Henley was top drawer.

Westcoast music at its best

A classic classic. Even though I own the album this is the first time I think I’ve listened to the whole thing and certainly all in a row. I was very impressed by the final song and wish it got more play possibly in place of the title song because admittedly if you listen to the right (wrong?) radio stations it can get tedious with overplaying.

I did not expect this album to be that good (people online said it was overrated). Surprisingly Hotel California is NOT my favourite song on the album (that honour goes to Try and Love Again).

Such a lovely place. Such a lovely face.

Always felt an irrational hate for the Eagles, not really sure where it came from. And upon seeing this album today, I was sorta hoping for it to be worse so I could rate it down a bit… however, the production was phenomenal, masterful instrumentals, soulful clear vocals, this really is a great album. 4.5/5

This album is such a good listen! I especially have to mention the track New Kid in Town. I really do think they should’ve had Glenn Frey sing more songs on this album. Nonetheless, it’s fantastic and well worth the listen. 10/10 !!!

Classic. Excellent.

Amazing album with rich instrumentals that fill the room, along with the vocals that play like an instrument and guide the songs fluctuations. Loved the story telling in the songs, and will be listening to the Eagles much more often.

Great album front to back, no complaints.

The ultimate dad rock album, there's not a single person born in the 70s or 80s who's dad did not own this on either vinyl or cassette. This was the soundtrack to road trips, always was, always will be... Opens up with 3 huge all time songs in "Hotel California", "New Kid In Town", and "Life In The Fast Lane" before settling into a deep groove like the slow sad vibe of "Wasted Time" and its reprise and the straight up rock and roll of "Victim of Love", the rest kind of follow what came before. A victim of its own monster success often leads to people turning on it, but this is an easy 5 star album.

Album 620 of 1001 Eagles - Hotel California (1976) Rating : 5 / 5 A long time favorite. I once wore Side 1 out but rarely gave Side 2 the time of day, especially the last 2 songs. Giving a closer listen, after so much time, I'm happy to say I was wrong to basically ignore Side 2, while in my teens. Awesome album.

I liked it a lot, the songs are beautiful and perfect for a walk. Although for my taste they are quite soft, I still think it is a great album and highly recommended.

Great album

This was the definition of chill. Not a bad song in this album. Stand-outs: New Kid in Town, The Last Resort

Jugamo fuimo al frente, ganamo y a otra cosa

I don't like the Eagles but this album is flawless. It's as if they put together their greatest hits and decided that a whole album should sound that good.

I was raised on the Eagles, so I guess they bring out the defensive side of me. It's perfectly valid to like or dislike them. I've decided, however, that hating them excessively is the most boring opinion in music. No, they're not cool. Yes, The Dude hates them. Yes, Henley and Frey are/were assholes. So are at least 2/3 of YOUR favorite artists. But I feel like the performative hate they receive comes from people who feel like they need to take the default "cool guy" position. What is so hateable about them? That they're really good at their instruments? That their harmonies are just "too clean"? I feel like any criticism of the actual music boils down to broad, purely subjective adjectives like "soulless". Well, Mr. Eagles Hater, I think you're a poseur. Quoting The Dude in your review does not make you The Dude. Anyway, this album rips. Not a weak track among them.

Stone cold classic with amazing songwriting and musicianship

Possibly the most front loaded album of all time? Hotel California, New Kid In Town (one of my favourite songs of all time), Life In The Fast Lane really sweep you off your feet on this album until they totally change gears with Wasted Time. After this, all the songs work together cohesively as an album but individually don't hold a candle to the opening 3 tracks. When I first listened to this album in its entirety last year, I was a bit let down with how the B side slows down compared to the first but with repeat listens I have greatly grown to appreciate it. Special mention to Pretty Maids All In A Row, Walsh kills it on vocals and lyrics. The instrumentation and vocals here are much better developed than the Eagles' debut album, each band member is allowed their time in the spotlight. I will never stop glazing New Kid In Town, Frey's vocals, the instrumentation, the lyrics, everything works together and fits the theme of the album. Though I'll never be able to relate to the feeling of being yesterday's big thing/hasbeen in the music industry, the feeling that's cultivated in this song of being over the hill and past your prime is something that really moves me. I don't think I need to say anything at all about the title track. Every song is a highlight. I've had a great day and I love the fuckin' Eagles, man.

It's one of those albums that is in popular culture because it is up there as a great piece of work. Musically interesting, good songs. I mean it's not going to start a revolution but everything has its place.

Fantastic album. The reprise for wasted time is beautiful.

I love this album so much, hotel california has been one of my favourite song ever for a long time and the rust of the album is all such a vibe! Definitely deserves a 5 star rating

Awfully good, measured and polished, for all the sublimated angst, anger and cynicism. The first four cuts are as good as any rock history. Title cut is a masterpiece for all the usual reasons and "New Kid in Town" might be the all-time soft-rock tune. One doesn't have to think that "Wasted Time" and "The Last Resort" are epic codas/fond farewells/curtain-droppers on a lifestyle to think they're great songs – richly sad and resonant. One can't help but think that the Byrds deserved this level of success. And there might be an issue that maybe they didn't have the best fans. Punk had no chance against anything executed this masterfully, this thoughtfully layered; even if it was the last breath of a dying civilization, the weather in Southern California might be the best revenge.

This is one of the greatest all time albums cover to cover!

De helft van de Eagles-haters praten alleen een quote na volgens mij. Dit is oprecht wat mij betreft een van de beste albums ooit.

05/10/24 Surprisingly a good album.

I know this album well. I have listened to it all the way through several times. It's definitely an album that you can listen to all the way through from beginning to end.

The best of the best

Life in the fast lane is a banger

Classic. One of my top 10 of all time.

(Insert The Big Lebowski line about hating the Eagles here) I know every note, every word and probably ever instrumentation on this album. I have been to three Eagles concerts and I am not a Boomer. I understand why people do not like them and I think this book does a good job of putting the two essential Eagles album in here. This album is just hit after hit though. A great encapsulation of the band's songwriting and production prowess. This has everything you need in an Eagles album on it. Hotel California: A strong, original guitar-led song with lyrics by Don Henley that are super-serious and have some allegory that have the audience could give a shit about. New Kid in Town: Probably one of my favorite Eagles songs. The harmonies and the way they are arranged is just perfect. This is Glenn Frey wanting to do country music but realizing Don Henley will get mad at him if he goes too far country. Life in the Fast Lane: Riffs that Don Felder and Joe Walsh tear up, along with a lecture about the life the Eagles led. Do as I say, not as I do. Wasted Time: A perfect (yes, perfect) soul song that may be my very favorite on this album. It's a journey and a real highlight for me. Wasted Time (reprise): A needless instrumental to justify paying for the orchestra on the previous song. Victim of Love: Another rocker that is very simple and has slightly misogynistic lyrics because Don Henley is above it all. Pretty Maids All in a Row: Joe Walsh's vocal introduction to the Eagles. I like the wistfulness of this one, which is something Joe Walsh is pretty good at when he sets his mind to it. Try and Love Again: Randy Meisner's only vocal on this album as Don Henley firmly grasped vocal control of the songs and choked the very life out of other vocalists' ideas they can sing a song, simply because Henley had an excellent voice. Fair, but unfair. The Last Resort: I mean, the lyrics are true! This is the true beginning of the Don Henley lectures about the environment and how capitalism can ruin everything that was good. This song is a slippery slope that brought us a variety of lecture-songs by Henley. So many of these songs are cheesy/played out, yet I still find myself connecting with them. I love this album and it absolutely deserves a spot in this book and it is okay if you hate the Eagles, man.

Wow! This was amazing. I really enjoyed this. It’s very calming and 100% my style. This band is great! Setting: driving and on a hammock in Eisenhower.

Great record

One of the best selling albums of all time. Concept album for a more modern America 1976. Deep themes, great songs throughout and highly iconic.

Yaaas.

Nice album. "Hotel California" song is a masterpiece.

The definitive Eagles album!

What a great way to start my day. Pure joy!

Banger after banger. I really like the Eagles style. Soft rock, but still with some shredding guitar now and then. Good singing, good music, some variety. No complaints from me.

Always amazing

A timeless classic.

Absolutely love the Eagles. I own their greatest hits 1971-75 on vinyl too, absolute classic :)

One of my fav

Ahhhhhhh music perfection! ❤️❤️

The title track alone earns this album 4 stars, add a couple more iconic tracks and you get one of the most iconic albums of all time.

your uncle’s favorite album

Does anyone need a review for this album? It's one of the most famous classic albums of all time. In addition to the constantly played title track, Hotel California delivers one great song after another. It might be the best album of that soft country rock genre ever recorded. You don't need me to tell you how great this album is.

bunch of bangers on this one, hotel california was a classic, lot of great tracks i’ve never heard on this so was a great listen.

Great variety, every song is super solid, powerful lyrics

Favourite tracks: hotel California; new kid in town; life in the fast lane; last resort

Really a great album. So many hits. Not just hits, all-time great songs. They were true masters of the trade.

Fun album with a fantastic diversity of tracks

Most people on the planet recognize at least the title song, and a good percentage at least one or two others. It’s a classic for a reason! Good songwriting, great melodies and harmonizing. There are a few weaker songs at the end. It’s probably a 4+ album, but I’m going to round up to compensate for the reviewers who are hating on it just because it’s popular with an older crowd. (or because of a fictional character ‘s opinion!)

I have such a love/hate with the Eagles, bordering more on hate these days. But this album? I can’t deny that it is a masterpiece top to bottom. Even though it is overplayed to hell, “Hotel California” is a perfect way to open the album and really sucks you in and sets the tone. I can’t really pick favorite songs but “Wasting Time” and “Try and Love Again” are what I enjoyed most on this listen. The only song on this album that I don’t care for consistently is “The Last Resort,” but everything else is fantastic.

I mean, come on. It's the damn Eagles!

Listened to this collection of harmonies and SoCal melodies more than I would like to admit.

Fucking terrific

Great variety of fun and interesting tracks on this album. It’s touching, sweet, sometimes distant and longing, and vibrant. I had heard some of the songs before, but the new ones were also great. Nothing’s out of place here and it felt well rounded. Standouts: Hotel California, New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane, Wasted Time, Victim of Love, and Try and Love Again.

I feel like i've been on a great streak. This album is absolutely outstanding. You have the certified bangers that are singles; hotel california, New kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane. But the key is 3 outstanding album tracks, Wasted Time - one of my favourite Eagles tracks Try & Love Again - amazing The Last Resort - incredible the other two album tracks are great too.

One of the strongest opening tracks of any album. Funny how their Greatest Hits was released a year before this came out. Great fucking tunes. Sort of teeters off at some points, but I can excuse that when there are so many bangers on this album even outside the title track.

I think this is as close to a guilty pleasure I have. I hate the people that listen to this band and I hate the members of this band, but this is such a solid, emotional album. I probably listen to it a couple times a year.

great album!

A Classic! One of the best ever!

I feel like every single song on this album was a hit. I know basically everything here despite never having outright listened to this album before. It's so crazy for an entire album to be that absorbable by cultural osmosis.

Beautiful album, surprised I hadn't already listened to it

Classic

That’s a hell yea from me brother

LOVE IT SO SO GOOD

Banger

Yes Please.

One of the all-time classic albums

I enjoyed it a lot

I went into this expecting sonic torture, but like…this is really good??? And fun?!?! It makes me want to have a woman with excessive lip filler sit on my lap while I drink a piña colada and imagine Ms. Lip Filler is my ex-wife who left with the kids 5 years ago today, and, simultaneously, it also makes me want to lean over the bar and bat my lashes at a man until he comes over and asks what I’m drinking and I make him order a Sex on the Beach just to hear him say, “Sex on the Beach,” while he tries to nonchalantly move his hand down my waist. Hotel California is just sleaze in its totality – as light-hearted fun, as a deep and dark sadness. It feels like flipping through a guest ledger of a Motel 8 in a beach town on a cold January afternoon. Sometimes it’s a bit self-indulgent and on the nose, but for the most part, it’s virtuoso without being too serious, and a sincere depiction of a time and place. After actually listening to it, I just think it became overplayed and that its time and place got a reputation as a result. But don’t let that fool you, because this is an excellent album, through and through. Not flawless (I am clearly not living “Life in the Fast Lane”), but pretty damn close. Also, Providence, Rhode Island got a shoutout, so it’s an instant love, in my eyes. *EDIT*: Yeah, finally admitting that this is a 5-star record for me, because I have ridiculous taste. That said, it's not a perfect record, and I think it really has a specific time and place. Like, it's fun to drive to, to listen to while you drink, to listen to on the beach, to listen to during the summer, but like...it's a bit of a silly choice for a house party, or cooking dinner, or riding the MTA, and like, I'm mostly doing the latter nowadays, not the former. Truthfully, I thought this would sit better with me over time, and it has, but it's aged like mid-tier wine. Still, I think as I've gotten deeper into this challenge, I've rated albums 5-stars that I think are worse than Hotel California, so it really only feels right to bump it up regardless. But this is more like a 9/10 record for me. But that's still better than most people would give it, and I think it deserves a lot better than most records. (Re-rated from 4/5 to 5/5 on June 2nd, 2025)

Helpful to separate the art from the artist. This is a fabulous record made by some terrible people.

Hotel California is one of the best selling albums of all time, and there are many reasons it has that place. Starting out with a legendary tracklist of rock classics like Hotel California, Life In The Fast Lane, Wasted Time, most of these are legendary songs I’ve come across multiple times across various classic rock stations growing up. Don Henley’s vocals pair wonderfully with the elegant background vocals and beautifully powerful, simple production. Lyrics are simple and introspective with enough flavor to keep them from being absolutely dull. Every rock trope that plays a part in dating it is executed so perfectly that it’s impossible not to love it. Cheesy Piano and strings sections during Wasted Time. The dedication to simple rhymes. The sequencing transferring from more energetic stuff to slower more sincere stuff. Cheesy love songs written to you. There's a level of simpleness with enough care and attention put into the finer details to make this improve that I think this album gets underrated under a critical lens for remaining towards the surface in its material and more relatable side of things. I personally love what Hotel California achieves and think it accomplishes a ton while remaining very mainstream and there’s a lot to be said about how impressive that is. Low 10/10

Great album ... A classic one . everyone knows most of the songs. I enjoy seeing the lyrics as some of the songs have vague words, etc. Can't go wrong w the Eagles.

No skips all bangers

Love this album.

Now this is a great album right here. It's been a while since I got an album with a song I've definitely heard before. I think the last one was British Steel which I listened to about 3 weeks ago. Today, we have one of the best selling albums of all time, Hotel California by Eagles. I find it weird that they're called "Eagles" and not "The Eagles" but whatever. Anyways, this album absolutely deserves all those sales because it's great. I'll start with my one problem that isn't even really a problem. It peaks at the beginning. The title track off of this album might just be one of the greatest songs ever made. None of the other songs capture that perfection to quite the same degree, though they are all good songs. Everything that makes Hotel California a great song does apply to the other songs and the album as a whole, just to a slightly lesser extent. I do like the vocals, but the song and album as a whole stands out with the other aspects even more so than that. The writing is great, the pacing is effective, and the sound is amazing. I really like the guitar work. It lends itself to some great moments, with the highlight easily being the solo at the end of the title track. Overall, this is an amazing album that absolutely deserves the praise and fame it's gotten over the years. 5/5.

Awesome.

hotel california

Ultra-solid songwriting wrapped in a neat 70s soft-rock package. Me likey. There's plenty to compliment here and not much to fault. In terms of track listing, the first three (Hotel California, New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane) leave little to be desired. They're so darn catchy while (importantly) not making you feel like your brain is decaying slowly. I do feel that there's some punchy, electric element missing from all three tracks (particularly Life in the Fast Lane), but then the same applies to all Eagles music. Eh, whatever. They knew what they were doing, probably. Except for that weird accent in the title track. There aren't any major standouts in the remaining six tracks except the pretty, acoustic finale, The Last Resort. They're all inoffensive and, while still catchy and musically complex enough in their own right, aren't quite as memorable as they could be. Still, it's hard to find specific faults. Still lacking the gritty element I'm looking for, but that would be incongruous with the Eagles' style that made them so successful. (But there's a flaw - they played it safe.) In terms of general sound, the band's firing on all cylinders here. The textures and vocal timbre/harmonies are incredibly smooth, like sonic mousse. Chocolatey, too. The guitar solos are groovy, catchy, and deceptively simple. The drumming is fairly standard but works excellently in every song. Key tracks: Hotel California, New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane, The Last Resort 5/5

Epic in every way.

Such variety. Love this album.

Sign 37 that I am getting ready to reproduce: I now enjoy The Eagles. In all seriousness — this got so much! The melodic creaftmanship, great musicianship (the riff on Life in the Fast Lane is way to often overlooked), and the ability to craft a cohesive album that works as a whole. I will say that I am not huge on the title track, but listening to this proved that is probably just a result of it being excessively overplayed. Listening to this also shows why it is so overplayed, cause this is brilliant.

How can I not give it a 5? One of the best selling album of all time, and one of my dad’s favorite bands. I grew up knowing who Don Henley was before I ever owned my own CD player. Even the non-hits were stellar.

its classic rock for a reason. short but sweet, doesnt overstay its welcome.

What else can I say besides this album slapped. Eagles obviously figured out how to make popular, groovy songs and this album encapsulates that greatly. I didn't even get bored with the long songs. Just a well written album that has a few legendary bangers partnered with nice, smooth-listening tunes.

Incredible. Love the harmonies, awesome guitar riffs, easy listening. I've said it on a couple other albums, but this is peak music. Didn't know the Eagles were so good tbh.

Solid album - only previously knew Hotel California but a lot of songs on the album are very listenable and catchy

One of the greatest albums of all time.

There is a reason this has been an iconic rock album for decades. Every song has gotten radio play, all but one was an actual “hit”. Hotel California has one of the greatest rock Solos of all time. Wasted Time is a beautiful heartbreak ballad. Joe Walsh’s Pretty Maids All in a Row is melancholy and haunting and The Last Resort stands as a political position against man’s tendency to make the worst out of the best life has to offer. It’s an introspective piece that even makes a person, like me, in the construction industry think about things. All 5 stars here.

What more is there to say about this? Hotel California the album basically defined the term "classic rock." The balance of perfect guitar solos, pitch perfect vocal harmonies that deviate from dark and edgy ("Life in the Fast Lane") to soft and twangy ("New Kid in Town"), sweeping orchestral ballads ("Wasted Time/Wasted Time Reprise") and overall expert songwriting just flow perfectly together. There's no doubt in my mind that this album is a 5/5. When I first started playing guitar as a teenager, I was incredibly jealous of the 12-string guitar melodies featured on the title track and recall being amazed that anyone could ever play such a daunting instrument and make it sound so gorgeous. If you're reading this: I still bow down to you as a guitar god, Don Felder. I'd never actually heard the album closer, "The Last Resort," and it's such a fantastic end to a truly special record. Cheers to you, Hotel California. Interesting factoids from Wikipedia: *It was the band's first album with guitarist Joe Walsh, who had replaced founding member Bernie Leadon, and the last to feature founding bassist Randy Meisner. * The album was also nominated (at the Grammys) for Album of the Year but lost to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours (1977). * (Eagles frontman, guitarist, drummer) Don Henley said of the themes of the songs in the album: "They're the same themes that run through all of our work: loss of innocence, the cost of naiveté, the perils of fame, of excess; exploration of the dark underbelly of the American dream, idealism realized and idealism thwarted, illusion versus reality, the difficulties of balancing loving relationships and work, trying to square the conflicting relationship between business and art; the corruption in politics, the fading away of the Sixties dream of 'peace, love and understanding.'" *The title for "Life in the Fast Lane" was inspired by a conversation between (Eagles guitarist/keyboardist Glenn) Frey and his drug dealer during a high speed car ride. *While the band were recording the album, Black Sabbath were recording Technical Ecstasy in an adjacent studio at (Los Angeles') Criteria Studios. The band was forced to stop recording on numerous occasions because Black Sabbath were too loud and the sound was coming through the wall. The last track of the album, "The Last Resort," had to be re-recorded a number of times due to noise from the next studio. *According to Henley in a 1982 interview, the Eagles "probably peaked on Hotel California." Henley said: "After that, we started growing apart as collaborators and as friends." *MusicRadar called Henley one of the greatest singing drummers of all time...In live shows, Henley plays drums and sings simultaneously on some Eagles songs. Standouts: Hotel California, New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane, Wasted Time/Reprise, Victim of Love, The Last Resort

Love the Eagles, never tire of listening to their music.

Such classics on this one. Haven’t listened to the eagles in a while and it’s just good easy listening. We had a radio station at home called 97.3 the river “classic rock without the hard edge” and this embodies that 💯

I mean, Hotel California is one of the best songs out there imo. I also love the Eagles. Definitely wasn’t the most exciting album out there but it was still phenomenal. Thoroughly enjoyed the listen through.

Dit was puur genieten

Did they invent alt rock?

One if the most recognized albums in rock history. It is an important lesson in musical history. And it's good. I mean really good. Like top 10 albums ever. Thought provoking lyrics, perfect composition, and incredible musical talent.

Great music! Love the Eagles!

4.6. Classic album. Certainly deserves all of the accolades. Strong guitar work.

Hotel California ist ja der Super-Ohrwurm. Dagegen fällt der Rest ein wenig ab.

Best album ever

The ultimate in Dad rock. Has become antiquated over time but the songwriting, musicianship, and vocals are unparalleled to this day.

Ikonisch. Ganz tolle Album, bei dem man jedes Lied genießen kann.

One of my favs

Almost too good. Now hated by those who consider it "dad rock" etc, but come on - this is world class choonage.

In fairness, two of my all time favorite songs are on this album, Wasted Time and The Last Resort. This album is an American masterpiece and yes I am biased towards this album.

Clásico atemporal.

A classic and excellent songs

Fifth studio album! They've moved past the fourth studio album phase! This album was released the same year Rumors was released. Good time for music, apparently. Musically, it's got a lot of different elements from the acoustic driven title song to the electric guitar Life in the Fast Lane to the piano forward Wasting Time. And then having Joe Walsh say, "Hi there, how are you?..."

Hotel California is quite an exceptional song and a great album. Plenty of Eagles highlights come from this album and the songs that you aren't originally familiar with are decent, keeping with the harmonies and soft melodies. Excellent.

Classic. Flows like water. Excellent road trip album.

Loved it

Featuring the Eagles’ best lineup and their strongest song selection to date.

My goodness, do I love this album! It is so nostalgic, because it was one of my favorite albums when I was a child, and that was in the 90’s. That is about 15 years after the albums debut! I was too young to understand the concepts and the analogies used. But, the album was mixed so well that it taught me what good recording is — creating very clear layers and messing with the listener’s perceptions with stereo field trickery. Couple these things with the passionate delivery of very perceptible lyrics, and it causes the listener to want to know more about the song (even at a very young age). Thank you Eagles for teaching me what analogies were indirectly! Thank you for showing me the art of music instead of just the pop Britany Spears albums (unabashedly still bangers). Thank you for stirring something in me that would eventually lead me to want to produce music myself. One of the few perfect scores from me!

One of best rock albums of all time. Some of the songs do meander, though nothing splits from the general mood of the album. I grew up with California rock, and I always appreciate some of the callbacks to the band's Country roots.

Dan ben je even gekalmeerd komt Life in the fast lane. TTTTRiiinnggg Trinngggg, "Who dis?".. Het is Wasted time PART 2. ja goed, geen woorden voor. Viooltje. Dannn, Victim of Love, begint echt sterk, luistert verder oke weg. Pretty maids begint als een zoetsappig nummer. Helaas. Try and love again voelt iets origineler.

Every song is a diamond. love this album

You forget that there are 8 more songs on the album which are very, very good. I think this is the Eagles at their prime. Writing good songs and just making great music. Am I huge Eagles fan, no. Is this a great album? Yes.

Some great classic jams, life in the fast lane, obviously the title track, great album overall

Eagles fly right?

Great album, no need to say more.

Tja, ist in meiner Plattensammlung und die ideale Cabrio- und Strand-Musik. Einfach gut und unvergleichlich.

This is a classic album, in fact, beyond classic. Loved it start to finish

Love it. Great classic rock

love this album

When we were much younger having gone back to somebody's house after the pub this was one of the albums we played. You hear Hotel California on the radio still but it is a long time since I listened to the whole thing. Still love it.

I understand where people are coming from when they say the Eagles are overly perfect here. It doesn't matter, it's great

MUST HAVE

I have nothing to add … one of the GOATS

Great album. Title track is awesome, as are the next two. The second half of the album doesn’t contain as many hits, but it’s hard to find things to criticize. The instrumentation and vocals are on point throughout.

Classic, had songs that I recognized but didn't know was the eagles.

Enjoyed re-listening to a classic from my high school days. The Andalusian scale used in the guitar work is mysterious and hypnotic, along with the riff repeated thru the entire song. It’s a morality tale about the lure of drugs (colitis, mirrors and addiction) and trying to escape.

Fantastic

The mainstream bangers on this album were a big part of my childhood family road trips. The non-hits were a pretty good complement. The voice, the guitars, the rock!! Solid album!!

A reminder of my childhood. This is one of my dad’s favorite albums. Song by song I’m taken back to when I first heard it. For what it is though is a chill vibed, well-written piece of rock n roll. From the iconic opener to the subtle lowkey closer this is track for track one of the 1970s best and most complete albums!

очень нежно и романтично (иронично что находится между 2 нойз панк ебанутыми альбомами)

I didn't even need to listen to this to rate it - I know pretty much every word to every song on the album, and the title track is not just hugely ingrained in American culture, it's one of those songs that become one of "our songs" and my mom and I have sung it together on more road trips than I can count.

11/10. This is THE album.

This album is ingrained into my soul because of my dad. I grew up listening to it countless times. And I like it, it feels like a pair of shoes worn in just right. But it’s also the best the Eagles have ever been, this is the song and album most associated with their name. It’s their most iconic record. The songwriting veers into cheesy, sappy territory too often, but it’s impossible for me to neg on a core sonic memory that will always remind me of dad.

There is a reason this is one of the best selling albums of all time. All band members except poor Don Felder get a turn at the mic. Classic songs.

The Eagles only make greatest hits - funny that Hotel California isn't even a top 3 song in this album, with Wasted Time riding high at number one

Solid vibes music really liked it

Classic rock in a classic album. Since I live at The Hotel California (in Hollywood, where the album sleeve was shot), I have listened to it numerous times. It holds up. I also love The Big Lebowski. Of their types, each is great.

“I fuckin’ hate The Eagles, man” - The Dude

Damn het regent 5en op het moment

I first listened to this album in full in early college years, about 1985-86. I, of course, knew most of the songs from the radio, which was always playing as we swam in the above ground pool out at my grandparents farm. I aunts, who were only a very few years older than me, had a transistor radio playing near the pool ladder. As well, throughout my high school career from 1981 to 85 the radio filled my time in my bedroom, and the Eagles played often. When I started buying 33 rpm albums in 1980, which quickly progress to cassette tapes, I focused on the pop songs of the day, which did not include the Eagles. Today I consider this a top 20 album for my ears, containing one of the top five songs of all time.

Probably the pinnacle of '70s California soft rock. Creepy title track, Life in the Fast Lane, great harmonies, cocaine fueled Don Henely - what more could you ask for?

There’s some self-righteous filler (both Wasted Times and The Last Resort) on this but you can’t go around acting like the first three songs aren’t perfect. The title track really is universal. Great stretch of hidden deep cuts from Victim of Love to Try and Love Again.

The Eagles have achieved rock super stardom for good reason. Hotel California is an album could very well be mistaken for a greatest hits compilation. The album contains beautiful compositions and excellent lyricism from front to back, with stellar guitar solos sprinkled throughout. Amazing record.

I won this album on a radio call-in contest! Eagles are one of my all-time favorites. This album is perfect.

Ok fine, it's a 10/10. No matter how much I can't stand Don Henley as a person, this album is damn near perfect.

Amazing

A Classic, nothing new to report, was great then, is great now

masterpiece

I like this one. Lots of songs I hadn't heard before or hadn't heard much. I like the slower pace of the album and of course hotel California never disappoints. 5 stars

Amazing, obvs.

Pretty much the definition of classic/dad rock. A great album front to back.

This is one of my father’s favorite albums and groups so this was very fun to listen to all the way through.

No words needed. One of the best albums ever made

I mean, it's a classic for a reason. Not much else I can say about it that hasn't been said. I'll give better reviews on other albums, sorry.

puno gemova

Country rock at its best

Not an album I need to play again to rate. Has there been a less likeable band than The Eagles. Much of their music has been so overplayed that it's out there in the ether without anyone needing to choose. I would point out The Last Resort as my personal highlight of what is a pretty perfect album, the definitive statement of LA country rock and one that should be as celebrated as Rumours. Why isn't it? See maybe they're just not that likeable as people...

All in all a good album. First four tracks hooked me, especially Hotel California right off the bat. But who doesn’t enjoy that song? The sixth song was kind of slow. Picked back up with the remaining songs. The Last Resort hit me harder than I expected, great song! (More notes tbd)

One of my favorite albums of all time across genres. Takes me back to grandpas apartment the second it starts.

Classic, if it came out now it would probably be called yacht rock

So great

Some of the greatest songs ever written on an album with no real weak songs

I loved it actually. Heard some classic songs in a new way.

Absolutely incredible! Loved it

SUCH A LOVELY PLACE SUCH A LOVELY FACE New Kid In Town Is Great

Plenty of room in my vinyl collection for Hotel California.

Absolutely solid album. There's a reason it's 26x platinum in the US. (Full disclosure, I'd actually probably rate it a 4, but I accidentally gave the Lynyrd Skynyrd album a 5 and it should have been a 4 and I think they're about equal)

#30 The Eagles have a reputation of being a love them or hate them band, but honestly I feel indifferent to them. I don't own any of their albums, and have only sought them out twice in my life. The first time was when I picked "The Best of The Eagles" out of my father's CD case during a road trip. The second time was when I played them for my 3 year old kid, as I like to expose them to new, influential music during bath times. This album, to me, is the pinnacle of soft rock. While some of it may seem "safe" to some people, it is just so airtight. The. 50 minutes go right by without you realizing. I don't know if I'll ever listen to this again, but I walked away from this respecting the hell out of the band and producers. 5*

Great album

Unreal album. Finished it then had to listen to the title track once more. Reminds me of the Jesus bowling scene in Big Lebowski...

This is definitely the most famous album that I've been given yet, which adds its own challenges. The quick answer here is that this album is great, and I very much see why it's considered a classic. Hotel California (the song) kicks it off, and it's obviously iconic and great. I don't think I had listened to the full album before, and I was surprised by the country twang that comes through on a number of the songs. I thought this worked well to complement the more typical rock vibes on songs like "Life in the Fast Lane". I also liked the slower tempo songs, and thought The Last Resort was a great way to wrap up the album. The hard part about something like this is that its pretty much the poster child for what's considered "classic rock" to a 2023 listener (at least to me). Because of this, there are moments that feel dated or even a bit hokey today (e.g., the guitar riffs on Wasted Time gave me this feeling), and as great as this is, this makes it feel somewhat uncool which makes me second-guess whether it's actually good or not. So clearly I'm overthinking things. It's great and there's a reason it's popular. Not everything has to hold up perfectly over time, but this manages to mostly do so anyway. Hotel California (the song again) probably gets a 5 rating on its own, but there's plenty more going on here too that's worth a listen and relisten. Favorite song: Hotel California Other: New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane, Pretty Maids All in a Row, Try and Love Again, The Last Resort

A classic for a very good reason.

I listened to the 5 songs I didn't know all day to see if this was a 4 star or 5 star. I think they were pleasant enough

classic for a reason!

excellent album

Kleine carry van hotel california, maar buiten dat om een heerlijk album

Great album start to finish. It may go out of favor over time but I genuinely feel it deserves to be considered for top 50 or 100 albums of all time. And it lost to Rumours at the Grammys for album of the year so, while we're at it, lets throw Fleetwood Mac into that category as well.

Such a great album, a classic. But then again it WAS 1976

The guitar, singing, and lyrics work so well together. Fun and easy listening.

Solid album. Knew all but one track. The Wasted Time (Reprise) was incredible. The Last Resort is an underrated classic track.

Awesome album! With life in the fast lane as a personal favorite

Really good stuff!

Dark desert highway Music we have heard too much A stone cold classic

Bang average album.

I was pleasantly surprised by this album. On first listen, I wasn't jazzed about the first song, but the second song caught my attention and the rest of the album kept it.

Awesome

the dude abides

I hate the fuckin' Eagles!

great album with incredible instrumentals and vocals 9/10

One of my all time favourites. This record has such high highs for me, it’s almost like a standard for other country rock albums to get compared to. A lot of incredible songs and beautiful vocals. The songs are really well crafted and feel very timeless. 9,5 out of 10

They were still young then but... also worth straight 5 star

I can’t help but love this album. Yes I’ve probably listened to 5 hours of Hotel California in my lifetime, but the title track still somehow feels fresh, and the other songs don’t feel like filler. I’m a sucker for music that feels palpably American though.

the title track might never get old to me, it’s so good every time. everything else was quite good as well! didn’t expect to enjoy it but i really did.

Heard it before:)

очень напоминает moscow summer nights, same vibe!

Alleen al de intro van hotel California verdient 5 sterren

Iconic. If ever there was an album to divide us between 1 star and 5 stars this is it. One of my favourites of all time and one of the Greatest albums imo. I love the whole vibe- West coast laid back Rock. It conjures up hot 70's evenings driving down the freeway with the top down. Bright lights as the hungry sharks circle. Sitting here in the cold wet North of England I'll let you make the choice?

Excelente!

this slaps

Look at that scene. Hazy, balmy, the day settling into the night. But for all of its allure and its promises, there's a dark side to paradise. That's a central theme of the Eagles on Hotel California. It was intended as a concept album, but the band navigates that water cleverly. Some tracks deal more directly with the album's dark themes ("Life in the Fast Lane," "New Kid in Town," "The Last Resort"), but others address similar themes of disillusionment and uncertainty on a more granular level, through the lens of sex and romantic relationships ("Victim of Love," "Wasted Time," "Try And Love Again"). The title track is of course *the* rock allegory of all time, maybe a little on the nose, but with some of the most vivid and memorable lyrical/musical imagery ever put to record. There isn't a rigid concept to follow or understand on this album, and every song stands perfectly well on its own outside of the framework of the album as a whole. That makes Hotel California a real pleasure to hear and not just some intellectual exercise. The album itself is gorgeously made, really a masterclass on how to make an album. Any flaws you might pick out of the Eagles' earlier works are absent here. Their trademark harmonies and pop sensibility are there, with a decided lean into the "rock" part of country rock. The combined guitar mastery of Joe Walsh and Don Felder can be searing or lovely and delicate as each song requires. Don Henley and Glenn Frey bring a potent combination of introspection and cynicism to their songwriting that gives these songs incredible substance. Add a dash of Randy Meisner's sweetness and sensitivity to the mix, and you have an album that hits you at just about every level. The band is operating at an artistic level here that outshines everything they had made up to that point and, frankly, none of them has ever come close to repeating, as the Eagles or as solo artists. A lot of people have personal issues with the Eagles for some reason, but their work speaks for itself. This album is a masterpiece, for the band, for a genre, for an entire era. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Hotel California, Wasted Time, New Kid in Town, Victim of Love, The Last Resort, Pretty Maids All in a Row, Try and Love Again, Life in the Fast Lane, "Wasted Time" (Reprise)
