I love the Eagles and I don’t care who knows it

Love it 4/5

A lot of classics on this one. On the strength of Hotel California alone, this has to be better than average. That said, the Eagles are great, but a little vanilla. Remember liking them more when I was younger.

137/1001 I don’t play this one much. I do enjoy it quite a bit though. A couple of stinkers but lots to love between that big opener and epic closer. 8/10

I'm not a huge Eagles fan, but this album is really good. I had not listened to it for a number of years, but I really enjoyed it. It's definitely in the 4-5 star range.

1970s with a girl... hard to screw that up.

Amazing! The first song sets the tone

Great overall sound with some absolute bangers.

Great classic rock, some of the greatest solos ever and a mid 70s hopeful feeling in the near the end songs

With this album, I officially begin my journey to 1001 albums you must hear before you die. Before that, I had no idea about this album, except, of course, the song Hotel California (I'm so in love with California, God). Before listening to the album, I read the reviews and realized that many people called the album boring, so I didn't expect anything AT all. And because I didn't have any expectations from this album, it seemed very good to me. New kid in town is just a great song for me. I don't know why so many artists use Johnny's name and what his allegory is, if there is one, but it's funny, I love that name (Johnny Depp, call me). In general, the album is not bad, pleasant in sound, wonderful vocals. I don't really know anything about the discography and biography of the band, just as a listener, I'll rate 7.5

Dad rock that I don't hate actually. I wasn't alive at the time to understand why people hate the Eagles. I love the ballads. The titular track is an amazing story. Lots of high points here, even though it's not something I'd normally listen to.

This is perfectly fine. Hotel California itself is a great song, but the Gypsy Kings cover is better, so how high can I rate this? This is a great album to listen to when you don't need to pay too much attention to it. It's good.

I enjoyed the slower paced songs on this album more than the higher tempo ones. I think the vocals and instruments really shine in those songs. Overall pretty good album, great recommendation cuz I def wouldn’t have given it a chance just cuz rock isn’t my main genre of music.

classic

Top 3: 1. Hotel California 2. Victim of Love 3. Life in the Fast Lane Least Favourite: Try and Love Again

A great album that even without the title track stands up pretty well. Well crafted songs that I enjoyed revisiting.

not my thing but undeniably good

This is not something I previously would have jumped to listen to…BUT this was really good. Not too long. Soundscape and melody choices were so interesting i was engaged the entire time. I’ve listened to another Eagles track on here this is by far my favourite so far. Fav songs: Hotel California - what an opening, New Kid in town and try and love again overall: 8.5/10

100% certified classic

lowkey sick with it

Groooovy! Loved the vibes

Classic

Great album - almost all of the songs and of course the epic ones.

One the biggest albums of all time, and one that I knew partially. I was surprised by the quieter parts, which isn't a criticism, but generally it delivered on the legacy of this album. Great record!

Några riktiga klassiker och överlag nice vibes!

Starting off with one of the greatest and most popular guitar songs of all time, the title track of Hotel California; which I know by heart as I've listened to it many times (like most people here, I assume) and I played it on guitar at some point. Beyond that, I hadn't listened to any of the other songs before. I'd say all the tracks are pretty solid, even if they're not up to the level of the first one (which obviously sets the bar pretty high). It's evident that the opening track is the best, but there are other highlights like "New Kid In Town", "Victim Of Love" or "Wasted Time". Personally, it was the more guitar-driven songs that I enjoyed the most. Apart from "Hotel California" and "Victim Of Love", one of my favorites was the reprise for "Wasted Time". A lot of the time a reprise or interlude is not even discussed as a possible highlight or even as a proper song or track. However, in this case it was such as outstanding string composition. Overall, a 4/5 for me.

This album was a big part of the soundtrack to my childhood. My older sister had it and played it a ton and the singles were all over the radio. My 10 year-old self was fascinated by the lyrics to "Hotel California" and it scared the hell out of me with its imagery. "New Kid in Town" was another one that seeped into my consciousness. Now, I better appreciate the lyrics to songs like "Life in the Fast Lane" and "The Last Resort." The thing is, the first half of the album is WAY better than the second. And they should have closed the album with the title song. Nostalgia goggles or not, this is a really good album.

this was so much better than i ever could have expected.

Cool album, already had the first song of the album saved so it was cool to listen to the rest of it.

3.94/5 Stars Top Songs: Hotel California, The Last Resort, Life in The Fast Lane

Hotel California itself is one of the greatest pop-rock songs I like.

Random thoughts: * I actually like the Eagles quite a bit and think they might be actually a little underrated thanks to all the haters out there. * this was the album where they added Joe Walsh and started rocking. Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane (love the kick drum) and Victim of Love happen to be the best tracks and the rockingest ones. * New Kid in Town is a poor man’s Tequila Sunrise. * Wasted Time is the best of the ballads. I’m assuming on the actual vinyl, side one ends with Wasted Time and side 2 opens with Wasted Time reprise. I love the way Victim of Love kicks in. * Pretty Maids and Last Resort were a preview of the bloated 80s Don Henley music. * the highs are pretty great on the album but it can’t be sustained throughout. Near classic with one of the all-time great songs. You can check out but you can never leave.

I really liked this album, it was different than songs I've listened to in the past. I really enjoyed this album, I found myself putting almost every song on my playlist.

Such a nostalgic feeling

it was an amazing listen, i did doubt it at first as it is usually not up my alley of music but HEY I LIKED IT

Better then just hotel california. Makes me want to go on a roadtrip.

While I don't harbor the vitriol some reviewers have for the Eagles, I always considered them boring dad rock. (after reading other reviews, maybe I need to research why everyone thinks they are pieces of shit) I love "Seven Bridges Road" but that's about it. "Hotel California" might be a great song, but I have heard it so much it has lost all luster. I'm at track 5. It is really hard to hate the musicianship on this album. These guys are spectacular. Not quite my favorite genre, but undeniably great.

Great album! Nonstop bangers right from the get go. Slows down a bit in the second half, but still good. Solid 9 out of 10

A lot more relaxing than I thought! Loved that about it. Already knew Hotel California and love it but after listening to the full album, my new favorites are New Kid in town and The Last Resort.

not their best album. but a classic nevertheless

Not my favourite but….

Solid mainstream rock album that doesnt try to be anything else. Makes it fairly predictable. But hey, if people like your sound, why mess with it, right? The song quality and production of this particular lp is nice. Hotel california and life in the fast lane are classics. I really like try and love again as well. Would land at a 3.5. Lets round up.

Hotel California is actually the weakest song on this album funny enough. Wasted Time into Wasted Time Reprise… I’m SOBBING

V good liked a lot

This album has long annoyed me not because it's not good- it's very good all-around often great but rather because I don't like it as much as others like it whose opinions I often admire and always respect. It doesn't hit me like other classic albums from that era (Rumours, Animals, Destroyer, Rocks, etc. ) and it's difficult for me to really narrow down the reasons or even a single reason other than it simply doesn't have the same impact. Hotel California (the album) never cuts loose fully; it feels a bit like the Frankenstein monsters in the sense that little happens on it that feels natural and an awful lot feels calculated and engineered, put together piece by piece. On the plus side it doesn't sound one bit dated, and it has some of the very best songs to ever come out of the 1970s. It's entirely possible that I'm missing something and that this is a 5/5 album to anyone with ears and a little taste but it's just not a perfect 5/5 album in my book and I'll just need to accept that and move on. A great album whose own artistic restrains keeps it from being essential listening.

It's been a long time since I've listened to the Eagles, and I'd forgotten how good they were - or how serious their lyrics were. I didn't know this was a concept album, and it hits a little differently now as we reflect on the idea of America. - Heard before? Yes, but it's been a long time since I heard the entire album. - Will I listen again? Yes. - Does it inspire me to listen to more of this artist? Yes.

I don't care how overplayed Hotel California is. I can't deny that it's a really good song just because it's crazy popular. I wasn't around for their glory days, so I cannot get the idea of how oversaturated the radio was with their music. Man, I wasn't even conscious enough to get the Nickelback hate in its prime, so I really have no idea how that could've influenced my opinion on this album. I really enjoy this type of mellow rock, I think? Idk it's slower, softer, more relaxing. I like to have it as background music. I couldn't care less about what anyone thinks, call it boring, call it overrated. I just enjoy it, and I don't think that's a crime. Also worth to mention Life in the Fast Lane is the weakest on the album in my opinion. No idea why it's the second most streamed song.

Classic great album

It’s ok

Only knew hotel california. The rest of the album was just as good

Excellent classic rock vibes. Good basic songwriting -- not super novel, or groundbreaking but very well done. Great lead guitar parts.

really solid album, easy to listen to & enjoyed every song. personal favourite was Try & Love Again, pleasantly surprised

Very good… my favorite is, of course, “Hotel California.” However… I rather enjoyed “Try and Love Again” and “The Last Resort.” I wasn’t paying the best attention, admittedly, as I was reading for my history class. This is an album I’d like to listen to whilst on a country drive.

fav songs from the album: hotel california, life in the first lane. also loved victim of love.

Smooth listening with a few chunky hitters. Life in the fast lane will always be one of my fave songs of all time.

Favorite Track: Life in the Fast Lane

Classic

hit that guitar solo

I really liked it and i dont know what else should i say. I like to listen to albums like that when my mood is good for this exact type of music, so i wouldnt be listening to it the whole time

An amazing album and great to listen to

-hotel california my beloved -these harmonies are what keep the beach boys' legacy alive -wasted time reprise omfg????? not much to say but very good me likey 3.5/5

Everybody hates the fuckin Eagles but I love the fuckin Eagles. NIEMNIEJ DON HENLEY I LOVE YOU

The last two albums being Jimi Hendrix proceeded by the rolling stones, really puts this album in perfect lighting. It's like starting a gnarly greyed rock rolling at the top of a hill and finding a perfectly polished gemstone at the bottom. Taking a new music genre and polishing it to perfection is what the eagles did with their run, and it all lead up to Hotel California. I can hear my dad drumming along on the steering wheel and softly singing when this album cuts on. They put in the work to get here and earned the accolades. Classic rock at its absolute best.

Loved this album

Not radical or groundbreaking and the title track overshadows the rest, but it's a well-performed and well-produced 70s rock album, with sound quality that puts a lot of 21st century recordings to shame.

7.5/10 Solid album

Listened with Jane at 7 am while we made our morning oatmeal.

hotel california is such a classic song - i was delighted that this is the first album i was given. easygoing, lonely and melodic rock. heavy use of strings too which was surprising, pretty romantic.

So many classics. Such a smooth easy listening album.

Okay, i was not expecting Hotel California to be this good. I only really knew this album for it's title track (and maybe Life in the Fast Lane too) and after hearing their self-titled album quite a while ago and finding it to be just alright. I thought that this album was just gonna follow in that album's footsteps but i was pleasantly surprised here. Outside of the two songs i mentioned that i initially knew this album for, this album was packed with quite a lot of good songs and i don't even think i found a single one to be bad or even meh, it managed to remain consistently great. I wouldn't say that its perfect but i still really liked this one. Best Song: Life in the Fast Lane Worst Song: Try and Love Again

hotel cali is a classic that i’ve heard atleast 50 times growing up. i didn’t expect this album to be pretty good too 8/10

“Hotel California” is enough to get you to four stars. Of course. And “New Kid in Town” and “Life in the Fast Lane” are nearly as compelling. The rest of the album doesn’t quite hold up to those levels—but, really, how could it?

My hot take is the actual song Hotel California isn’t very good. Does not deserve to be as famous as it is. That being said, the rest of the tracks on this album were good. Overall a good listen.

“Hotel California” is like the boomer National Anthem.

This sure is some dad rock but damn if it's the smoothest dad rock there is. Look, it's coming into this with a lot of negatives: I hate the fuckin' eagles, man; it's a genre that really isn't bringing anything new or exciting to the table; it's not doing anything new or exciting to the table. But...it's just so god damn /good/ at being radio-friendly rock that you can imagine your 50 year old dad doing bad air-guitar to that you have to love it. It's just kinda unfortunate that it goes for more piano relaxed ballads at the end. That knocks it down to 4/5. It would've been a 5 if it had kept the first 2/3rds up.

I have come to the realization that I under appreciate the eagles because this was amazing. Wasted time might be one of the greatest songs ever.

Just casually drumming and singing

I think this album is a great mix of rock n roll bangers mixed with great piano ballads! Lots in store in this one. :) Favorite Song: The Last Resort Least Favorite Song: Wasted Time HM: Wasted time reprise (unexpected, but not unwelcome)

3.5 (43:28, 9 tracks, 1976, 5th album) Rock (future country) Eagles became essentially the proto-type for 90's country revitalization. I don't love every song on this album but there are some great ones. Only album with the greatest Eagles Lineup (Joe Walsh, Randy Meisner bass, Don Henley and Glenn Fry) Singles: New Kid in Town Hotel California Life in the Fast Lane Lost best album to Fleetwood Mac's Rumors; however, remains one of the best selling albums of all time.

Great opener. But the rest of the album just doesn't hit the stop. I'm with the Dude on this one.

One of the greats.

Major classic first song but haven’t listened to the rest so excited to dive in! 1. Hotel california has one of the best guitar solos with it really building up to something special 2. New kid in town very satisfying and feels familiar, musically interesting and nice lyrics weaving along seamlessly to tell the story 3. Life in the fast late shows a change of vibe and pace fitting to the name. Do already know this one. Reminds me of the race scenes in Grease and Drive in the classic LA landscape. 4. Wasted Time a lovely ballad with a nice addition of strings and some interesting moments with bass and vocals. A little boring but satisfying. 5. Wasted Time Reprise this is exceptional. 6. Victim of love did not grab me at all sadly. 7. Pretty Maids all in a row was pleasant but I lost interest. 8. Try and love again comes full circle with the same themes lyric wise with interesting moments lyrically but misses a great guitar riff imo 9. The last resort a stunning ending, the second half opens up something that felt missing in the mid section of this album, ties everything up perfectly. Overall very enjoyable with great moments however a couple of songs leave more to be desired.

Rating: 75 Very important album to me in my teens, kinda my gateway to listen to older albums alongside queen

Enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Gorgeous guitar sound. Try and Love Again was a standout.

Incredible

Solid album, always a bit skeptical when the biggest hit is track 1 but there were a good few tunes in there - 4/5

classic songs i grew up kid to but i didn’t expect to hear some softer melodies

i can see why the eagles are one of the bands with th most sold records of all time. it’s just classic rock and timeless

Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5

Actually really lovely.

On kyl kovia biisejä

Another one I know a couple of songs from, but have never actually listened to. Known songs going in: 2 Rating: 4/5 Favourite song(s): Hotel California, New Kid in Town

Very good one

Another album where I've loved the popular songs for years, but also really liked the other tracks. It's definitely a classic rock album for a reason!

This is another album that I can feel is great, so 4 stars, but isn’t for me other than the title track and Life In The Fastlane.

The first four songs of this album are incredible. What a treat! The latter half wasn't nearly as strong. I'm noticing that as a trend with a lot of albums from the 70s. Bit of a sidetrack, but it was also a little bit annoying as a YouTube music user to dig around for all of these tracks (I think they only allow a single instance of each track, so songs on the Legacy album are not available on this album. Had to frankenstein a playlist together from 2 different albums). Don Henley's unique vocals really had me pulled in. I think this is one of the strongest vocal performances I've heard so far in the 1001 albums list. Of course, the guitars were great as well. I thought the weakest track was "Pretty Maids All in a Row." "Wasted Time" really stood out to me with the strings and the vocals. Some of the songs are a little bit too long. Very strong album overall and I would probably listen to it again (with a couple skips). 3.8/5

beautiful

Won't quote Big Lebowski here, just a decent piece of 70s music

Classic album with a lot of great songs

A classic and good album

The title track is 5/5 masterpiece. The rest of the album is very enjoyable as well, a great piece of classic rock.

So many hits. Hard to deny this album

Four for memories of dad driving me to karate classes, especially for "New Kid in Town."

I’ve never been tapped in to the discourse on why The Dude hates the Eagles or why the cab driver loves them so much that he tried to fight over them. What I can say is that listening to this album with the windows down on one of the last warm days of the years was an immaculate vibe.

Some absolute classics, and I find a lot of the songs here to be quite beautiful.

Piękny album, a jednocześnie jeden z wielkich komercyjnych sukcesów w historii muzyki. A całe otwierające trio to mega hitowe kawałki, szczególnie "New Kid in Town" zapada w pamięć.

I’m not the biggest fan of Joe Walsh’s voice, but still a great album nonetheless. Solid rock classic.

such a classic. great listen for my early morning commute. i had never listened to the whole album front to back, and i must say i love the way it flows together

Incredible album that only stumbles once or twice.

I had heard the hits from this album but never listened to the entire record. It’s a great album. Great vocals, great instrumentation, great lyrics, and awesome harmonies. Great driving music.

Never thought I was much of an Eagles fan, but I really enjoyed this. Hotel California is obviously great and one of their better known tracks but Wasted Time and Wasted Time (Reprise) reminded me of storytelling I have been missing from just listening to tracks on Spotify.

Southern California had a good thing going in the 70s huh Came into this wanting to give a contrarian take on the title track and the overrated nature of the Eagles in general but I can admit when I'm an idiot. The first twenty seconds of Life in the Fast Lane is on the Mount Rushmore of dad rock. This is short of a five because I didn't really care for the Wasted Time interlude in the middle.

The eagles fuck

How many times have I heard so many of these songs on the radio. Very many...

Great album and the first one where Ive listened to most of it before. The final track is my favorite

I don't know much about music, but I think I can recognize something as true art when I hear it, even if it isn't exactly to my tastes. I really liked this album, especially the tracks "Hotel California," "Wasted Time," and "Victim of Love." Really great!

Classic album, an absolute powerhouse for the entire first half, but maybe loses its momentum in the second section.

so far favourite is life in the fast lane it's ok, favourite is stil life in the fast lane, new kid, and hotel california, for the rest maybe honorable mention victim of love, but meh

Good album, a couple songs I really like.

One of the first albums I ever owned. And I still have it, some 40+ years later. Rarely played side 2 though, this is a 3.5 rounded up for nostalgia. 4.

rocking with this, lfg!! happy monday

There's so much emotional depth to this album, way beyond Hotel California - which in itself is a fantastic album opener! The harmonies, the guitar playing, the drumming, the lyrics - which my husband says is nice to be able to have a singer who you can hear and understand what they're saying! It doesn't get a five as there were a few fillers for me, but right up there with one of my top albums.

The album started off great, like the energy went up pretty fast. However, after just three tracks, it suddenly died down. The rest of the tracks are still decent, though, and "The Last Resort" is okay for a closing track. But they're kinda forgettable.

Alot of people on the comment thread have mentioned how they hate the Eagles. And they are quite hateable - in their pompous, Dad rocking, money grubbing, California hippie boomerism. That said, if they had a moment - ever - this is probably it. Joe Walsh gives the band some edge, Don Henley take center stage to productive effect, and the theme of the record adds some substance and heft, exemplified by the title track. Never will be a big fan, but willing to give them their brief due.

i discovered the eagles through my dad when i was young, i remember we used to watch the hell freezes over DVD and i loved it. that said, i have never listened to a full eagles album until the last few months, and setting aside don henley’s personality - i quite like this album. it’s not amazing but i really love a few songs on here. wasted time is such a beautiful song that is probably at the top of my eagles songs. 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I'm glad that this album was chosen because I have listened to it on a variety of systems over the years but the one thing I never did was plug headphones in and listened while I spun the vinyl. I've played it in my car and on a CD player but putting the remastered version on with high end noise cancelling headphones presented a new experience. One where each member of the band is able to breath on it's own. And that proves the reason this record is timeless and one for the ages. That said, it gets really sloggy in the middle. One mid-tempo beer fest raise your lighters track after another. Boy is this thing front loaded...

I'm a sucker for passionate vocals and catchy melodies. This record delivers that. Favourite Track(s): Hotel California, Try and Love Again, Pretty Maids in a Row, Victim of Love Least Favourite Track(s): The Last Resort

Surprised by how the Eagles sound outside of the title track but honestly pretty good

An absolute classic album. The musicianship and vocal harmonies are outstanding.

I'm a little biased because I'm not the biggest Eagles fan, but this album is a classic. I'm not sure this is a 5 but it's really really close.

It's probably easier to enjoy this album if you're not from the US. I must admit I was completely unaware of the controversy surrounding the Eagles, something I am only finding out now through the reviews I'm reading here. As an Italian listener, this album doesn't feel like "supermarket music", I'd say there's only a couple of songs that are widely recognized as big classics here, and with good reason: Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane are absolute gems. While the other tracks don’t quite reach the same heights, I still found the album very enjoyable overall.

What a great album. Of course the title track is the biggest, but I can listen to whole album very happily.

I’m trying my hardest not to be a hater as a die-hard frank ocean / american wedding fan. But im messing with this so far — great album all around. They just need to not yell at clouds.

A few great songs does not make a great album, but at least it's good.

Well, well Hotel California... Lauded on release and still a staple of classic rock, but often deemed a unimaginative choice when it comes to favorites. Sure it's not the wildest most progressive record from time period, but it's still phenominal. The opening track is a mysterious theory-inducing hit that hopefully will never be forgotten. One of the most recognisable sounds ever created and the album doesn't stop there. It goes on with pretty much banger after banger, even the ballads are solid. Until the end, which carries it's only misser, The Last Resort, the only slow ballad that sounds more whiney than anything else. Should it pop up on so many best of all time lists? For it's initial impact alone, one could make a case that the answer is always and undoubtetly yes, even when it might not end in my personal top 100, if I were ever forced to make one.

In the mid 1990s my Mom had a 1987 Lincoln Continental that in addition to having a air shocks problem that made the backend sometimes drag like a much cooler car that you would see in a Compton's Most Wanted video, also had a Panasonic CD player (that loaded the CD upside down) with Eagle's Live stuck in the player. For some reason or another whenever you turned the car on the CD player would come on and start blaring "Hotel California." You could turn the CD player off once the car was started but if you wanted to listen to any music this was your choice as the FM/ AM radio also did not work. Sometimes we would choose to listen to this CD despite being subjected to it any time we started the car. Other times we rode in silence. Based on the above and being the perfect age to dislike the Eagles based on The Big Lebowski/ alternative music/ the ascendance of hip hop , I have always had a complicated relationship with the band. It is undeniable that they were too popular. However, it is also undeniable that they were really talented at making the kind of music that made them so popular. This was my first time listening to the album in its entirety and the 200,000th time listening to Hotel California. I can't let nostalgia make me denigrate this finely recorded album that contains in addition to the three huge singles at least 3 or 4 other songs that would have been the best songs on many of the artists on this lists catalog.

Lebowski jokes aside, this is a classic for a reason. The title track was already on my Liked Songs, and I added Life in the Fast Lane.

Listened to the band before : Yes Songs I already knew: The whole album Favourite Songs: Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane Exquisite guitar work by Joe Walsh. Great harmonies though a little high pitched for my liking. Easy listening and well produced. A couple of classic songs and let down by a few songs otherwise a 5. Strong album.

Hits were good, honestly solid

One of the best classic rock albums, not much to say. Title track is basically perfect. Favorites: Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane

Classic

A very enjoyable soft rock album. Hotel California is arguably one of the most legendary rock songs of all time, featuring one of the most recognizable intros and guitar solos ever recorded. It’s my grandad’s favorite song

Turn up The Eagles the neighbors are listening!

Not a huge Eagles fan but this album is pretty iconic.

This one's a classic banger for a reason. A bit inconsistent in parts with particular tracks not reaching the heights of its best in the first half (such as Hotel California, obviously), but it's great listening. fav tracks: Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, New Kid in Town

Don’t understand all the haters as this is a pretty decent album. OK so it’s mellow but we cant all be Motörhead!

Espectacular 8.5/10—>4/5

Q puta pasada me encantó.

Considering they had just released a Greatest hits album earlier that year, it's crazy that they didn't wait to add a few songs from this one first. The first three songs are classic Eagles hits. The rest of the album is alright. The B-side tends to slow down a bit too much for my tastes though. Overall this a great album and worthy of 4 stars. "Life in the fast lane", is still one of my favorites and will make the playlist.

Some gold stars, some duds. Overall enjoyable

I really like Wasted Time + Reprise, Try and Love Again, and The Last Resort

listened to again super classic album

classic rock more than just the title track

Eagles bore me but this was very good. I really like the song Victim of love. Did this one have more don henley singing than usual? Not sure but easy 4 stars.

Easy listening at its finest. A pure distillation of the safest corners of mainstream American in the 70s.

Very chill, very cool album. I've heard these songs SOOO many times on the radio over the years.

Familiar with the Eagles but not much outside the two hits at the beginning. Enjoyed this. Easy listening, not repetitive, feels crafted by actual musicians that understand how to play well together.

definitely want to see that hotel

Another top tier dad rock album, great guitar arrangements and as Don Henley said himself - the band probably peaked on this album. Top 3 are hotel California, life in the fast lane and new kid in town.

Some bangers on this, love the more guitar heavy tracks, the piano tracks aren’t quite as interesting but still a really good listen overall

Not an album I have listened to before but I knew more songs than I realised. I have to say, it’s clear why this album makes the list (and other lists of this sort), it sounds good throughout, Hotel California is an all timer.

Luistert lekker weg. Ook de minder bekende stukken

I've heard the song "Hotel California" a million times, but never the rest of the album. As a side note, I love the Frank Ocean 'remix' of Hotel California - American Wedding. The song slaps, the guitar part is legendary. It's another one of those songs that's hard to talk about because you've heard it so many times. I like "New Kid In Town". "Life in the Fast Lane" is fun. It's got sweet riffs throughout. "Victim of Love" also has some sweet riffs. "Try and Love Again" is nice. I like the vocals a lot. This album is really good. It's a great execution of a brand of rock and roll that I am not in love with. It's a little too 'Dad Rock' for me. Still good though. 7/10

This gets a 4 for the single, but the album doesn't really do anything for me. Many of the songs feel long and repetitive.

GOOOO BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRDS 🦅 Okay with that out of the way. Bold as hell to open the album with the clear hit, but it also perfectly sets the theme for the rest of the tracks to follow. Sorrowful tones all over the place (ignoring Life In the Fast Lane). The orchestral interlude smack dab in the center of the album was a complete shock but beautiful. Found less purchase with Victim of Love / Pretty Maids All In a Row but oh MAN do they pull it back with Try and Love Again / Last Resort. Great listen, and a great end to the Eagles.

I was just listening to them the night before this posted :) the harmonies and impossible heights that Randy Meisner reaches are nothing short of stupendous. Although the radio tried to kill HC by playing it every 15 minutes for 30 yrs (another Stairway to Heaven), this is a mighty fine album is a flowy, flawless easy listen

Influential, but overrated…

The Haunting contrast of the verses to the upbeat chorus really bring the song to life. None of the rest of the album is as great, but it's all still good.

I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man! That's just, like, your opinion, man. I don't know if I like the Eagles per se, or as people, but I like most of the songs on this album. They are the songs of driving out of town, driving to a new home, driving off to see the country. I can remember which exit I was at on I-57 for certain lines of Life in the Fast Lane, and realizing that other shoppers in the grocery store were singing Hotel California along with me.

It was fun to listen to. Many radio classics came from here

Great collection of songs, really the pinnacle of the eagles output. Great guitar work throughout.

Title song is a classic, I don't care what anyone says. Whole thing is very good.

Album is unavailable on YouTube Music.

I'm generally a fan of soft rock, and I certainly get that in this album. Hotel California is great, and there are a couple of other cool tracks as well (gotta love the reprise of Wasted Time coming right after the original), but too much of this album feels bland to me as well. I'd give the album 3 stars for Hotel California, and 1 star for the rest of the album. Favorite Track: Hotel California

1. Hotel California - 11 An all time classic. Lyrically a masterpiece, instrumentally it builds so well from the elongated intro and through the verses. Bridge is absolutely stunning, with a superb guitar solo that world class. Just an amazing track. 2. New Kid in Town - 7 Decent track. Instrumentally and lyrically it's okay. I don't think it's anything phenomenal but the sound is good and it's a well structured track overall. Does get a little repetitive towards the end of the track. 3. Life in the Fast Lane - 7 Another decent track but I feel like the presentation of the lyrics is a little weaker than what it could have been. Guitar solo at the end is amazing but the transition from the chorus into it is very weak. 4. Wasted Time - 10 Brilliant track. Lyrically very strong and instrumentally loud and soft at exactly the right moments. The strings are the perfect addition to the guitars and drums, accompanying them in setting a brilliant mood for the track's message. 5. Wasted Time (Reprise) - N/A Reprises are not to be rated. 6. Victim of Love - 10 The guitar is fantastic on this track. Lyrically it's a lot slower and the flow is extremely rigid but lyrically the verses are incredible and that's what makes this track so enjoyable. If Hotel California wasn't the opening track, this would be the best one on the album. It's excellent. 7. Pretty Maids All in a Row - 6 It's not a bad song but it's just no where near as strong as others on the album, mainly lyrically. Instrumentals are good for their limitations in it being a slower and more melodic track. The pass over track of the album. 8. Try And Love Again - 11 Brilliant track. Lyrically it is absolutely moving. Instrumentally it's got a great sound that gives the track an incredible mood and builds superbly throughout the track. Stunning song. 9. The Last Resort - 7 Decent track to end with. Lyrically it's strong at parts but weak in others (mainly when they sing about God). Instrumentally it builds well into a wonderfully fading outro. Average Rating: 8.63 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 4.31 Rounded Down: 4 Stars

Some cool mid 70s rock, obviously knew the title track but overall the rest was very fun as well. 4 stars

Classic dad rock or not, Hotel California doesn’t deserve the level of hate it gets. Sure, the title track has been played into the ground, but dismissing the Eagles outright is lazy. This is a tight, polished record, and the craftsmanship is undeniable. The harmonies are gorgeous, the playing is sharp, and the production is spotless without feeling sterile. Songs like Life in the Fast Lane show the band’s edge, while New Kid in Town highlights their softer, more melodic side, and that one in particular could pass for Steely Dan. I wanted to give it 5 stars but the album really lost me because of the last few songs (I am talking about you Try and Love Again!) It is still a piece of classic rock history. 8/10.

I have a lot of nostalgia for the Eagles, often listening to it with my mom who loved country and it wasn't as bad as some of that for me, but the songs don't stand up as well as I remember. Yes, there are some catchy gems, but I had to focus not to tune out some of the back half.

Good album, had already listened to it.

Side A is close to being a masterpiece. Side B is a little "meh."

welcomd to the hotel california

This one reminds me of my childhood. Hotel California will never get old.

Good, slow but melodic

Classic. Many consider it overrated but in my opinion that's just because of how ubiquitous it is. My wife can’t stand it because she was forced to listen to it on every family road trip on repeat. Just for that I give it another star. 4⭐️

good, but listened to it too often

I haven't listened to this album in its entirety in a long time (actual, I still haven't because I was jumping around.) This has a number radio regulars and some chill easy listeners. I remember every song and always enjoyed it. This is one I would listen to again when time permits. I wouldn't rank it a 5 because some of the deep tracks are very melancoly but still well produced.

Good old classic rock. The highs here are excellent, but some of the songs are treacle, pop songs with no distinguishing merit aside from the fact that they're not particularly annoying. (Wasted Time) The song "Hotel California" is a classic rock staple that I must have heard literally 1000 times. And I still don't hate it. "Life in the Fast Lane" is simply a really good rock song. Great musicians doing solid work here. I don't ever go out of my way to listen to this band, but I would rarely turn it off if it plays.

If you grew up with the Eagles you come to expect eye rolling at their constant never-ending hit parade. But hearing this fresh, it actually shows a band at the peak of their skills. Joe Walsh joining the band is a perfect decision, adding an edge on guitars they desperately needed to break out of the country-rock vibes they’d built on. The songwriting is definitely 70’s but earnest, and the technical skill is still unmatched. There’s still a few lulls - “Wasting Time” does exactly what its title says - but this is a really nice surprise of an album.

The hate for the Eagles is forced. This album is lovely and practically ubiquitous - everyone knows Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane. Parts of the album were a bit boring, but these guys are great and I loved listening to this all the way through.

There are three things bother me about this otherwise-incredible album. (1) Glen Frey has only one lead vocal. He was my favorite Eagle. (2) why do we need a symphonic version of Wasted Years? It’s pretty but not really necessary. (3) I’ve never really like “Life in the fast lane.” Everything else is amazing.

> the Beatles

I’ve heard the classics before but was pretty amazed with New Kids in Town, Pretty Maids All in a Row, and Try and Love Again. This isn’t really in my wheelhouse so it was nice to explore something new.

There are some great tracks in the shadow of the title track.

i forgot that hotel california is longer than like 3 minutes

Actually expected to not like this very much - but it's quite good. 3.4 stars? Yea.

Mixed feelings about this album. I quite like the album, with my favourite track being "Life in the Fast Lane", although I prefer their earlier album "One of These Nights". It's the title track, "Hotel California", that I have issues with: I still think it's a great track, but for me, it suffers from being overplayed, particularly during a family holiday to Thailand in 2010 when every bar, taxi, and hotel was playing this song, and not just the original version - everyone Tom, Dick, and Harry seemed to be doing a cover version.

A classic. From iconic guitar riffs to ballads, all songs are recognisable and very 70’s. Nothing much to say, might be a bit overplayed but the singles make up for it. Huge fan of the title track, as well as “Life in the Fast Lane” and “New Kid in Town”. Surprisingly, I also really liked the Reprise of “Wasted Time”, although that might be an unpopular opinion. Great album.

Second half is a snooze

Me gustó.

Listened in the truck via YouTube music. It’s a classic. Also listened to the live album attached to the 40 year reissue. It had Funk #49 on it which was cool.

Sounds a bit dated nowadays, very 70s production which does feel old (unlike, strangely, Rumours which came out in the same year). There are classic songs to be sure: title track and Last Resort being my favourites.

There are some great songs, and many hits here. And they are great. But the others are duds. 3.5 if allowed.

I do love some adult radio rock sometimes.

I was surprised I liked this so much. I think it was over played and I got sick of it. Was glad to revisit, only reason not a 5 is the last three tracks really drop off

One of those albums I’m never mad to see.

Obviously has some of the greatest Eagles songs they ever wrote, title track being the most obvious. There are some fucking cheesy songs on this album though. The highs are so high and the lows aren't awful but woof, does it feel scattered.

Whatever, i like the eagles and this album reminds me of my parents. You can check out any time you like but you can neverrrrr leave….stuck between a high 3 and low 4, I’ll round up and call it a day

If you need an album to sink a few beers with your father-in-law while watching the sun set over the ocean, then it's hard to go past this. Like a macro lager, it goes down easy without much thought.

Starts strong with hotel California, keeping the pace up throughout with life in the fast lane and victim of love. One of the best Eagles albums

Noko av det verste eg har høyrt

Not loving the vocals.

More hits than I realized!

Decent easy to listen to middle of the road album would have given 3.5 but have gone 4

Pretty good album, even if it is carried by its singles a tiny bit.

This is the sort of album I look forward to on the list - a classic and beloved album that I've somehow never got around to listening to. Unfortunately I only actually like every other song. That makes for a disjointed listening experience, and I never truly got into it. The good songs are pretty great though.

It’s a classic for a reason.

It's been played to death but there are a couple of classics on here. I don't want to listen to it again but the hits are undeniable.

Though I am not a fan of the Eagles, I respect their work. This album, in particular, builds on earlier success and adds the masterful guitar work and overall vibe of Joe Walsh. And while it is uneven, the strength of Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, and Victim of Love elevate the overall work from a 3 to a 4. It hurts to do it because I am not a fan of most of their earlier work. However, listening again, I am compelled to give them the extra nod of approval.

The strong songs are strong, and the others are not. This album had a huge impact and the title track and a few others have stood the test of time. It drags on the back half for sure but “The last resort” is a decent sleeper.

I was always a bigger fan of earlier Eagles material when Bernie Leadon was in the band, but the magnitude of this album can’t be denied. The title track alone merits solid ranking, but with three other hit tracks also onboard, I’m begrudgingly pushing it into higher territory. Maybe because my 7-year old self hearing these songs everywhere as a kid wanted my current self to like this more. The front half of the album is more rocking, but I was surprised to hear such banal dad rock on the latter half. The Eagles abide…

Three great songs with and the rest is pretty meh. Seems like they did a pattern of: rock, easy listening, rock, easy listening...etc. I'm rounding up based on the strength of Hotel Cali, Life in the Fast Lane, and Victim of Love. 3.75/5

This is a good album! I'd heard Hotel California many times before but wasn't familiar with any of the other tracks. I really grooved with the guitar and the harmonies. One of the only things I knew about the Eagles (other than Hotel California) was how the Big Lebowski hates them haha. I put that aside and enjoyed the album. Afterwards I looked at the global reviews on this site and damn, this band is apparently super divisive. People love them or truly despise them. They seem to be associated with conservative boomer corporate rock, and I kinda see it. Seems like people put a lot of baggage on the music without really critiquing the music itself. I'm sure if I was alive during their heyday I'd have my own associations with them, but as a fresh pair of eyes the hate seems a bit unwarranted though I could be naively seeing just a glimpse of who The Eagles are. I also admittedly don't really listen to lyrics very closely, especially on a first listen. At the end of the day, I liked this album a lot, though it wouldn't be one I'd throw on very often. Standouts: Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane, Victim of Love, Try and Love Again Rating: 4/5

Good album with 2 great songs and couple of good songs.

I really like this album cover. It gives off a weirdly nostalgic feel, even if I wasn't even born in the 70s nor was I ever in California. The music, despite being (ugh) the Eagles, is actually the best the band has ever made. Many great tunes here that, in the right conditions, capture the same feeling as the cover. Key tracks: Hotel California New Kid in Town Life in the Fast Lane

So close to a 5 but on second listen, Try and Love Again bumped it down over the line

The gold standard for dad rock

This album surprised me, I obviously knew Hotel California but the whole album was good. An album I would of never listened to without the challenge

Enjoyed this more than I expected

Solid. Better than the other Eagles album by far

Iconic.

Its the Eagles, they're good, good songs, good album, good good good. Lose a star for ruining the concert industry forever booooo.

Love the album, but prefer some of their others.

R3ally enjoyed this album and see myself listening to some songs quite a bit but there was just something I was slightly unsure about

Really enjoyed it was such a good vibe

This has a bunch of hits. Great album.

It was nice. A couple of songs I knew and the whole album flowed.

Man, it must be hard when your biggest, best, most-loved song is a one-off that you forever are chasing down, trying on out lightning into a new bottle. ‘Hotel California’ is a masterpiece and, while the Eagles have lots of other great songs, hangs over every one of their songs that come after it. Solid alt country with a monster to start….

Classic stack of their best hits.

Good album. I liked the different themes they explored in their songwriting. Iconic guitar riffs throughout and the title track is a certified classic. 3.5/5 Fav tracks: Wasted time and The last resort

Hotel California is iconic but overall I dont know why this get's listed in various Greatest of All Time lists other than it sold a tonne. It's easy listening that was very popular but theres nothing ground breaking here. 3.5/5. Raising to a 4.

Easy Listening.

Classic from war back

Enjoyed this - smooth, 70s easy listening. They’re no Fleetwood Mac but it was still very good. Hotel California absolutely slaps so maybe a little all downhill from there.

The morning after listening to this album I'm humming a new kid in town

This album is divisive. Which is fairly ironic as the Eagles themselves seem to be laid back and easy going. You either like it or you don't, I suppose. 9 songs (really 8 songs and a reprise) on this one. I happen to enjoy pretty much all of them. I'll give this one a high 3 low 4.

I haven't listened to this one in a hot minute. The Eagles are for sure a greatest hits kind of listen for me. The first 3 songs are absolute bangers. Then it sort of lets up in the middle, before coming back strong for the close. If they had kept up the pace set at the start of the album, this would be a 5/5 no brainer. But "Wasted Time" through "Pretty Maids" just brings the album down for me. That being said the guitar throughout the album is amazing, and the vocal melodies really hit when they hit. Standouts are "Hotel California," "New Kid in Town," "Life in the Fast Lane," and "Try and Love Again." Big Lebowski jokes aside, Hotel California gets a pretty solid 4/5 for me, it's always a good listen but isn't a perfect album.

Classic. Enduring music. All songs well produced. 4.5

Awesome

Great album. Hadn't heard much beyond the title track before, but enjoyed it as a whole after a full listen. Every tune offered something new but contributed equally.

I've got to say I disagree with the Dude, I enjoy The Eagles.

A 70s soft rock classic with incredible vocal parts and harmonies and subtle arrangements that makes all the difference from a bland soft rock album.

The eagles are the first band I was ever obsessed with. I would go to Sam Goody and try and get every CD I could. Read biographies about them. They were a favorite of my dad too. I’ll always have a place for them in my pantheon. With that said, I think they’re great tunes and as good as it gets for 70s rock. Their lows are…awful. I think that HC is considered great because I don’t think it has lows. Bringing in Walsh was huge as well as he brought an edge to their sound that hadn’t been there. Henley is an underrated singer/drummer. Great songwriter as well. The band’s animosity towards each other is impressive and I really need to watch their documentary. I also like bands who have different singers. Here we have Henley, Fry, Walsh, and Meisner. The vocals are so strong.

Possible to not like a band but quite like an album? Yes.

Pretty good.

So many good songs on it and a masterpiece of the country / rock genre.

Dad Rock at its most Dad Rockiest! Being a Dad I enjoyed it.

Didn't think I liked the Eagles, but I quite enjoyed this one. Easy listening. A very accomplished album - hangs together and moves through a few hits with good additions. Not sure how often I will listen to it but probably a bit more now that I've listened through our little group! x

Iconic album from one of the most successful bands of all time.

Surprised not to be giving this 5 stars, but just because some of its great doesn't mean all of it is. Some incredible moments and world class tunes, but also some moments where it fell into middle of the road soft rock. Blinding guitar playing throughout though.

3 hits in this one, the biggest is of course Hotel California. The rest is like three songs that are good but not as great.

Ah, at long last, I get to review Hotel California. My parents listened to The Eagles quite a bit when I was a kid, and I kept that tradition going through most of my college years. However, I don't think I've ever listened to all of this album. Other than reviewing The Eagles' debut album a while back, I haven't listened to them much since college (about twenty years ago, yikes). I have higher expectations for Hotel California than I did The Eagles self-titled album, so I'm hoping I'll really enjoy listening to this today. I thought Hotel California was really good overall. There were definitely parts that I enjoyed more than others, but as a whole, this is a solid album. I’ve had a soft spot for the title track on this album since I was a kid. The guitar playing is absolutely fantastic throughout the song, the bass playing is great, and I love Don Henley’s vocals. The songwriting here is fantastic as well, and I love how the theme of addiction on this song can be applied to so many different things in life. As a kid, it drove me wild that this song’s story wasn’t completed by the lyrics, but as an adult, I feel like the solo at the end completes the story. “Hotel California” more than earns its reputation as one of the best classic rock songs of all time. Even though I love the title track, I don’t particularly care for “New Kid in Town.” It’s a fine song, but after the high of “Hotel California,” “New Kid in Town” feels like such a bore to me. However, “Life in the Fast Lane” is great. The bass is groovy, the lead guitar has a perfect desert flair to it, and the lyrics tell a captivating story of a couple whose life has been taken over by their desire for material excess. I love the piano and Don Henley’s vocals on “Wasted Time,” and even though its sound is a far cry from the songs I like the most on this album, it’s absolutely beautiful. The strings that kick in about halfway through are great too. I really love how the second side of the album starts with the reprise, opting to continue with the beautiful string arrangement that kicked in on the second half of the song. Even for a short reprise, I love the mini-crescendo the song builds to. “Victim of Love” goes back to the guitar rock with the southwest flare that I love on this album. This is far from my favorite Eagles song, but listening to it reminded me just how much I love Don Henley’s singing. “Pretty Maids All in a Row” and “Try and Love Again” are fine songs, and I don’t mind Joe Walsh’s or Randy Meisner’s vocals, but they just don’t hold a candle to Don Henley. Even though I’m not crazy about either of those songs, they do both bring a good sound to the album. “The Last Resort” isn’t a favorite of mine either, but I love the synthesizer that’s used towards the end of the song. Even though I’m not fan of it, it’s a nice song, and it’s a great closing track. I was really hoping that this would be a five-star album for me, but it falls a bit short. “Hotel California,” “Life in the Fast Lane,” and “Victim of Love” are all stand-outs on here, but I feel like they blow everything else out of the water, and I wish more of this album kept with the rock sound that was prevalent on those songs. Still, this is a really good album, and I can understand why it was so well received by critics and why fans of The Eagles really love it. However, I can also see why Rumors took home the Grammy award while Hotel California didn’t.

Fantastic album. So many songs I already love. The middle section could hit a bit harder so I’d give it a 4.5. It needs to be a perfect 5 to be a 5 so for that, it gets a 4.

Genuinely didn't know that the Eagles made music other than Hotel California. Like, I've heard other songs, but I didn't make the connection to the name. 4/5

I mean "Hotel California" is one of the greatest songs of all time. I'll say the same as for Bohemian rhapsody; if most of the world population knows the entire lyrics for your sih and a half minute long and 50 year old song, you've done something right. "New Kid in Town" is great as well. 4/5

Hugely popular album from my teenage years. Still had plenty of interest.

4/5 classic

Enjoyed it more than I expected.
