Good Album. Enjoyed it.

Great album, very easy listen.

CLASSIC

Blowin' and burnin', blinded by thirst They didn't see the stop sign, took a turn for the worse She said, "Listen baby, you can hear the engine ring" "We've been up and down this highway, haven't seen a goddam thing" He said, "Call the doctor, I think I'm gonna crash" "The doctor say he's comin', but you gotta pay him cash" They went rushin' down that freeway, messed around and got lost They didn't care, they were just dyin' to get off, and it was Life in the fast lane OK, a couple of things - One, 1976 was a fucking amazing year for music. Two, this album is one of the handful on the list that I 100% agree is one that every human should hear. 5/5

Awesome!

What can be said of this classic album that already hasn’t. It’s been played throughout my childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. I wish Henley wasn’t such an ass.

Fat stack of hits

5/5. Classic. I love every song. Perfect album, and it brings back memories.....

Classic album, pretty timeless.

It rocks, it has soul, blues, tenderness, good guitar soling, vocals other than Don Henley’s. Every song is either immediately likeable or grows immeasurable on 2nd or 3rd listen. Gentle songs often have moments of melodic or bluesy guitar brilliance. Great singalong. A bona fide classic.

Amazing!!!

Look. The Eagles get a bad rap. It seems a lot of "serious" music fans find them corny or annoying. But I am an unabashed Eagles fan. Their harmonies, their tasteful playing...all of it, great. There are more pop-rock masterpieces on this album than most artists have in their entire discographies. It goes down SO smooth. I genuinely think this is a 4.5 star album, but as we can't use half stars on this site...

igh, The Eagles begin to walk their way back to something more meaningful. they fall in and out of love (“Wasted Time”), reconnect with old friends and lovers (“Pretty Maids All in a Row”). they’re willing to try any and everything to give life meaning again (spoiler alert: love. love is the balm, the glue that holds the fickle heart of bruised nomads together). by the end of the album, on “The Last Resort”, it’s obvious that the idea of paradise, that idyllic wonderland, is in itself a toxin, and yet… the cycle of creating an all-consuming facade is set to begin again. humans are victim to their own proclivities — the greed and consumerism, drugs and promiscuity, it’s all rosey and alluring. set to soft rock and light, country-tinged power ballads, The Eagles place a mirror before those desires, moments before they lead to the demise of the ones who stoked them in the first place. gosh this is a breathtakingly stunning album. a cautionary tale and reckless advertisement all at once. truly astonishing.

Good, relaxed, classic rock.

Loved new kid in town

Excellent album. I listen to it often.

It's one of the greatest albums during the pinnacle of rock. Good mix of complexity, intricate lyricism, and classic songs.

Perhaps a little too front-loaded (aside from 'Victim of Love' in the back half), but I think that's the only bad thing I can say about this album. And if the worst thing you can say is the opening of the album is too good, then you don't have much to complain about. I didn't realize they were so divisive until I read some of these reviews, but I love the Eagles and I love this album. It goes from rocking to soothing so effortlessly, and it's just really good, enjoyable music.

So classic. Amazing.

This is the Eagles strongest album both musically and thematically. Here we see the Eagles tire of their notoriously drug fueled life and start to see the cracks in the illusory California dream. What was once a haven becomes a prison and elements of their old life start to break down around them as they find themselves replaced by newer artists, the drugs begin to become unsatisfying, and romantic relationships come to an end. The ending track widens the view to show that it was always a dream; California remains a colonized place and no matter how much it's dressed up, the dark truth remains. Joe Walsh's guitar work is a shot in the arm here and helps solidify the Eagles' hard rock bona fides. There is still a tinge of country rock, but the new heavier sound juxtaposed against the softer songs serves to highlight the tumultuousness of confronting the illusion of California.

I always listen to every album before I review them. Which is totally unnecessary with this one. I have no idea how many times I've listened to this. Hundreds, easily. I still love putting it on again because it is a piece of genius that should get a higher rating. That's the problem with great albums from a certain era, they get overplayed so people get sick of them. Not me. It's note perfect. All killer, no filler. Some of the greatest harmonies this side of The Beach Boys, twin guitar leads from Felder and Walsh, Henley's bluesy voice.

love it.

Awesome and great album

I really liked this one! Great album by a great band!! It’s the Eagles, what else is there to say?

"I hate the fuckin' Eagles, man." A parte la citazione, che andava fatta per forza, questo è un album imprescindibile della storia del rock. Non posso non dare cinque stelle.

Top Album

Always enjoy listening to the Eagles. Super talented musicians and songwriters. This is one of their best albums.

How did the Eagles manage to rescue Frodo and Sam at Mt Doom and still have time to record "Hotel California"? Really, the question answers another commonly asked question: why didn't the Fellowship fly to Mordor with the Eagles? Simple. They were writing and recording one of the greatest songs of all time. Gandalf was their manager at the time, and after meeting with the Eagles after Orthanc, he gave them the idea for the song. Hotel California is actually about Saruman imprisoning Gandalf. ("You can check out anytime...but you can never leave") Rescuing Frodo and Sam was only a PR stunt orchestrated by Gandalf before the release of their album to gain publicity. In fact, some experts believe Hotel California would not have been as popular if the Eagles had not saved the ring bearer.

The title track is so overplayed that I forget how amazing and late 70s iconic the rest of the album is.

The popularity of this album, and especially the title track has kept me From listening to the entire album for many years. Even as overplayed as it is, “ Hotel California” still very listenable. One of America’s iconic songs. Rest of the album is really strong as well, although a little mellow for my taste . “Life in the Fast Line” - classic rocker. “New Kid in Town” popular, but one of the weaker songs in my opinion. Good stuff, and I always liked the album cover. 4.5 and rounding up.

I know this one already ! Great album

I've already listened to this album many times. It's been with me my entire music listening life. My dad owned this album and when I was a teen I used to borrow it a lot. It has always been a to go-to classic, although not really among my favorite albums. Lately, I haven't given this album much attention. It's nice to be reunited. Favorite songs: Pretty Maids All In A Row, New Kid In Town... Actually they're all great songs. Just a little tired of Hotel California and the Wasted Time reprise is too soon (maybe should have been before or after The Last Resort).

A masterpiece.

We've been living in Hotel California Ever Since!

This album is FINE!! You all scoff at The Eagles but this is quintessential dad rock, and I love it! Favorite tracks are New Kid In Town, Victim of Love, Try and Love Again and obviously, the title track. And although many of these songs I've only heard for the first time today, it still evoked memories of sitting in the back of a car at 6 years old while my parents drove us to a long weekend roadtrip out of town. Fast forward two decades later, I am now a girl in my late-20s but I still strongly believe in the power of dad rock!! 🤘

Hotel California is one of those songs like Wonderwall, in that if you told me you’d never heard it before I would call you a liar and punch you clean in the chin. I do very much like the songs I already know if this album, so let’s listen to the rest! Songs I already knew: Hotel California, Life In The Fast Lane Favourites after listening: Hotel California, Life In The Fast Lane, The Last Resort Many times during this album I found myself covered in goosebumps. The solo of Hotel California even gave be goosebumps on my scalp, so I was likely looking somewhat similar to Doc Brown for a little while. I loved this album from front to back - the singing is buttery smooth, the guitars and drums are beautifully played, but the highlights for me were the piano and strings dotted around throughout. I think the Eagles seem to be seen as a bit of a cringey band these days (like the boomer version of Nickelback) but I can earnestly say that I enjoyed this very much, and will definitely be listening again.

This is one of my top 20 albums of all time!!!

Amazing Album. Hotel California is such a well crafted song, everyone knows. I can't remember which album my dad had when I was growing up, but it contained an acoustic version of Hotel California which is always the "real" version to me. Lots of good songs elsewhere on the album too! Definitely ought to listen again.

Fantastic, iconic album without any bad songs, and no two songs are the same. The obivious, most-well known, monster-hit song is Hotel California, but the likes of Wasted Time and The Last Resort are nearly equally as good. West Coast country rock has never sounded better. 5/5

great album

good shit I think the title track surpasses the rest of the album in quality (unlike say, Elephant by The White Stripes where there are plenty of songs I found to be just as good as Seven Nation Army) but still, extremely enjoyable album 10/10

I hate the fucking Eagles man

Great album

This is the first album I've recieved that I have listened to many times before. That didn't stop me from listening to it again! I love The Eagles, and this album is a gem! Glenn Frey & Don Henley's vocals are amazing, and the harmonies reached by the band are wonderful! The addition of Joe Walsh on guitar was awesome, and his solos throughout this album are terrific! The addition of strings in Wasted Time brings that slow ballad to a whole new level! Favourite songs : Life in the Fast Lane (awesome, rocking song), Hotel California, Victim of Love, Try and Love Again Least favourite song: if forced to choose, Wasted Time 5/5

These are iconic songs with great production, themes, writing, and execution. Near entirely perfect album. 5/5

Nice, chillige musik. Hotel california geht immer

Grew up listening to this. So many great guitars , great Melodies and Harmonies. What a pleasure!

mid, though H.C is a classic.

Absolutely awesome album. Eagles at the top of their game.

Took me back instantly to my childhood, lol. Listened to many more songs that followed on spotify, was a great time.

Classic solid album, you can't beat the Eagles

Solid album. Non-singles are better. Growth and life changes in the songs.

classic

Automatic Hit. One of my favorite albums of all time

One of the greatest albums of all time Enough. Said.

Studs: Hotel California is legendary. Harmonies on New Kid in Town are outstanding and give me chills. Life in the fast lane is just great too, of course, just love the bass line, plus it features like 4 different iconic guitar riffs. Victim of Love is again a total classic. Duds: At first I felt that Wasted Time brought the record to a screeching halt, but by the end I was completely on board, and the symphony on the next track was beautiful. I felt the same way again when Pretty Maids All in a Row came on. I stand by that one. boooooring lolz. Vibe: I was obsessed with the Hell Freezes Over CD for a period during my youth. That's where I learned all the eagles songs I love. Never heard a single one of their full albums though. Glad I remedied that. This fucking rocked. This album is STACKED.

idk yet

This album is perfection. Everything amazing that evolved in music in the 60s and 70s from lyrics, production and composition, is in this album.

The A Side with its 4 powerhouse songs is among the best that's out there. The B side falls off, because while the songs are pretty much the same concept, they do not work as good as the previous ones and are way too long. Nonetheless a great album, however falls short of a masterpiece

Well, that's a 5 no doubt People say that Hotel California is the devils song. Quite right, just as I listened to it today I saw a weak moth crawling on the floor. I took it in my hand because I thought that moths were pretty harmless and brought it outside, it stayed there for a little while. What I didn't realize was that this was a vampire-moth. So it jabbed it's strawlike mouth right into the palm of my hand and began sucking my blood. This was a strange coincidence. 5/7 Perfect Score, would get sucked again.

El disc definitiu del so californià i un dels grans discos dels 70, i de la història del rock. Tot en ell és magnífic, des de la portada fins a l'últim segon de 'The Last Resort'

Snilld. Elska þetta nánast of mikið.

Ah, to be but a traveler, seeking shelter for the night, wellcomed by a pretty face into Hotel California. The songs are more contemplative but engaging, the vocals clear, distinct and carrying powerfull emotions, the stories they tell evocative. I must say I enjoyed this album a great deal. Highlights: Hotel California, Wasted Time

Best guitar solo ever?

It is hard to review this one as objective. This was released soon after I turned 16 and it was omnipresent during the last few years of high school. The inevitable backlash occurred (not just to the album, but Eagles in general). Nonetheless, I was and still am a huge fan. The album is strong from start to finish and has four distinct vices and songwriters. A classic and masterpiece of the genre.

A near-perfect (if not outright perfect) album from start to finish. Just one great song after another. Sonically outstanding. It's Henley/Frye's masterpiece that sounds as great today as it did when I first heard it! Truly one of my top albums of all time.

Great album. Hard to listen to the title track objectively because I’ve heard it so many times. Victim of love is currently my favorite Eagles song.

A great album but honestly, I've heard the songs so many times over the decades - especially in high school - that I wouldn't have sought the music out if not for this website. Still, it's well worth the listen and well worth adding to your collection.

My parents used to listen to this album all the time. Brings back a lot of good memories. 5/5

Love the song, more familiar with them on playlists and a greatest hits album. But as an album, its great. Need to listen to more of the Eagles in album format.

Awesome sound. I loved this album

The high school football coach pulled his middle linebacker out of the game, grabbed him by the facemask and growled, ‘You need to git your head into the game, son, and now. What is it with you tonight anyway? Are you ignorant or just apathetic?’ To which the kid replied, ‘I don’t know, coach, and I don’t care.’ What is it with lyricists Don Henley and Glen Frey, do they not know or just don’t care? 'Hotel California' was IT, in 1976, my senior year of high school. With the possible exception of 'Frampton Comes Alive,' 'Boston,' and both 'Fleetwood Mac' and 'Rumours' (essentially, the same fantastic LPs), there was nothing bigger than Eagles, and this particular album. Musically, the interplay between guitarists Don Felder and Joe Walsh throughout shine like the southern California sun. Everyone else is great, too: Henley, Frey, Meisner, and even Walsh’s vocals are simply sublime. You might not be the biggest fan of their country rock genre (this album purposefully leaning more towards the rock), but you can’t deny how stunning these harmonies are arranged and performed. Speaking of arrangements, Jim Ed Norman’s score and conducting of the ‘Wasted Time’ reprise is practically worth the cost of the entire LP, a bargain $6 in the mid-70s as I recall. Yes, I’ve got no beef with the music, although its not really my bag much these days. But I played the shit out of it in 1976, on my mighty AMC Gremlin 8 track player (google it, kids), with a matchbook cover jammed in the bottom to insure a tight fit to prevent another song from faintly bleeding on to the one actually playing (again, google it.) It’s the lyrics that concern me; or, more accurately, the lyricists’ intentions. Despite the artful writing, the major problem I have with 'Hotel California' is it’s core ideology. No, that’s not it exactly. It’s Henley and Frey’s (and not Walsh’s; not enough intel on Meisner to make a call) ignorance and/or apathy about their own selves as participants in the very things they are criticizing. Virtually every song beginning with ‘Life in the Fast Line,’ the tale of a couple 'rushin' down the freeway, messed around and got lost, THEY didn't care, they were just dyin' to get off,‘ to the end, ‘The Last Resort,’ ‘THEY call it paradise, I don’t know why. Somebody laid the mountains low, while the town got high,’ are attitudes and behaviors the lyricists themselves are equally guilty of. If this whole concept were a subtle commentary on their own transgressions, then I would call it an outstanding work of art. But given their subsequent interviews, most especially Henley’s continued arrogant insistence that there’s no good music being made anymore, I can’t find any clues on Hotel California that indicate he and his bandmate are turning the mirror on themselves as well as the rest of us materialistic, mass consuming, environmental ravaging, racist, genocidal, drug abusing Americans. Hypocrites! Don Felder, chime in here anytime you want. And then, of course, the famous opening and title track, with its claim on the one hand that ‘We are all just prisoners here of our own device.’ Ok, I’m hip to that. But then to turn around and make another claim that the hotel management is ‘programed to receive. (And) You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave’? Those two takes on hell (or the American culture of the 1970s, or rock star fame and fortune, or whatever else the Hotel California symbolizes) seem very different to me, the latter option being the worse, not to mention just bad theology. Methinks the lyricists are spiritually confused. Too much cocaine will do that to you. And too much adoration without the necessary restraint of the ego. And too much money, or at least the love of it. Thank God for sweet, good-hearted Joe Walsh. Sure, he could drink and snort more substances in his day than the rest of the band combined. But he also had more humility, and self-awareness that eventually got him straightened out and flying right. His song, ‘Pretty Maids All in a Row,’ contains these lyrics: ‘Seems like we’ve come a long way. My, but we learn so slow,’ and ‘all you wishing well fools with your fortunes, someone should send you a rose.’ Contrast that with Henley’s statement on the song immediately before, ‘Victim of Love’: ‘I could be wrong, but I’m not.’ This is one of the best albums that I wouldn’t regret never listening to again. And that’s a real shame, because I love to sing, and I love to harmonize, and 'Hotel California' offers that gift in spades. It deserves 5 stars, so I’m going to honor that. But I’m also considering American writer of Christian literature, Warren W. Wiersbe’s advice that ‘What I am is God’s gift to me. What I do with it is my gift to God.’

I call this album a masterpiece. This was my first time listening to this album from start to end and i'm really impressed with the high quality. My top 5 songs: Hotel California, New Kid in Town, Victim of Love, Try and Love Again and The Last Resort.

One of the all time great albums. Easy rating here!

What can I say? This is a deservèd classic.

A classic, no doubt.

Great guitar hooks and memorable lyrics. Splendid!

HOTEL CALIFORNIA is packed with incredible songs. The title track is one of the most incredible rock songs ever written. After that it’s packed with hits like “New Kid In Town,” “Life In The Fast Lane,” “Victim Of Love,” “Try And Love Again.” The quality of the remaining songs are every bit as compelling despite the tendency to overlook them. My favorite is one of those other songs. Over the years "Last Resort" has continued to expose new facets and has become my anthem of loss as I have come to perceive the world as a much more harsh and less magical place. Humanity is failing to stop - or even alone acknowledge - the wheels of our own destruction. Listening to it at the closing of HOTEL CALIFORNIA is a powerful statement. HOTEL CALIFORNIA is an incredible work whose indictment of American exceptionalism grows more urgent with each year that passes.

Absolutely, positively perfect in every way.

This album just starts out with greatness. Hotel California, New Kid in Town, and Life in the Fast Lane are some of my favorite Eagles songs. After that, you get a nice mix of classic Eagles sounds. Great album.

There is not one bad song on this album for me. There’s some better than others but what the Eagles do musically with their harmonies and simple instrumentation will always impress me.

This is an excellent if not epic album. 43 minutes of very emotive and powerful instrumentals and lyrics. I believe this to be the epitome of the eagles. Each song has a specific message that it conveys perfectly. I especially enjoy ‘life in the fast lane’ as it perfectly encapsulates the album's message of a rockstars life in the 70's. Every lyric of every song seems to have more than one face-value meaning. It is a masterpiece with excellent guitar, drums, vocals and piano. I also really like the album cover with its contrast between light and dark.

This is what I'm fricken talking about.

Música que nossos pais escutavam

Saw the Eagles on tour at Giants Stadium in the Meadowlands NJ summer of 1980. My first stadium concert. Sold out. The opening acts were Little River Band and Heart. Hotel California had been released more than 3 years before and The Long Run was out in 1979, yet this was still a Hotel California tour. I remember the cover art on the stage background and the roar of the crowd when Joe Walsh started playing those famous opening notes. Crazy to thing they had already released a greatest hits album before HC was released. Yet when Walsh joined the band it took them to a new plateau without losing their roots, unlike some groups that shifted so much with a new member (ex. the Doobies). This album offers so much beyond the title track—Life in the Fast Lane’s driving beat, the emotion of Wasted Time, New Kid in Town, Victim of Love. Just an amazing album from an amazing band.

I had a rough night and I hate the Eagles man. I can't hear an Eagles tune anymore without thinking of the Big Lebowski. I admit the genius of the title track but I also admit I'm so sick of it. Still, 30+ million people who bought this album can't be wrong, right? Kudos for the different stylings from song to song - e.g., Hotel California (complex, operatic), New Kid in Town (Country & Mexican), Life in the Fast Lane (LA Rock - with a Joe Walsh twist?), Wasted Time (minimal, piano-driven plus an instrumental reprise), Victim of Love (more rock, but more chords and less plucking), The Last Resort (sweeping, piano-driven). Also, the lyrics are really smart, full of analogy and innuendo - it makes it fun trying to figure out the meaning (or double meaning). I thought I was tired of the album after the first few tracks but Wasted Time and Victim of Love reminded me how good these guys are at both soft and hard rock. The latter in particular made me re-appreciate all the guitar and bass work on this album. And though there's a lot of good Hendley lead singing, Try and Love Again reminded me there's also good lead singing from Meisner (and Frey...Walsh kinda sucked on Pretty Maids All in a Row). The Last Resort is probably equal to Desperado in terms of my favorite Eagles track ever (the lyrical commentary, the beautiful arrangements). Yeah, 30+ million people ain't wrong.

One of the best. Beautiful album start to finish

Oh lord do I love this album! Solid 5, in my top favorite albums.

Guter Rock, ein Klassiker.

Listened Before? Y My first entry for an album I've listened to all the way through in the past! Pros: Hey, it's the Eagles! It's the Eagles best known album, and it's a widely acclaimed masterpiece! Also, Hotel California, and The Last Resort are a couple of my favorite songs of all time. Amazing album. Stellar songwriting. Stellar instrumentation. Cons: The only con I have for this album (and actually the band as a whole), is that in MY opinion, Don Henley has such an amazing voice that nobody else should sing. Ever. I don't understand the rotating singers thing and it actually annoys me a lot. Added to Library - Y Songs Added to Playlist - Hotel California, The Last Resort

Great album

But you can never leave...

Outstanding! Best of the Eagles!

One of the easiest 5/5 I can give. Love this album. Heard it at least a thousand times over the years.

Wow! Shockingly good. Had no idea. Good orchestral sounds.

Classic rock is classic.

One of my all time favorites. The addition of Joe Walsh was a real turning point for the Eagles. So many fantastic one-line lyrics and fantastic guitar riffs. An amazing study of American mythology

September 15, 2021 Another one of my favourites. Soooo good.

It is so chill. I love it so much

perfect

Great album!!! Brings back high school memories

Loved it from Welcome to finish. Hotel California, Life in Fast Lane & Victim of Love. Great strumming on the guitar 🎸. Truly has held up over all these years. “Such Lovey Place”

De lo mejorcito que he escuchado hasta ahora de la lista. Un imprescindible sin dudarlo.

Tip 10 imho

Love this album, musical masterpiece

Great album. So a good variety of Eagles sounds.

-Hotel California is basically a bad help review and a 2 minute guitar solo -New Kid in Town has a hint of country with the twangy guitar -Why are there two Wasted Time's? -"Victim of Love" was a nice jam

Welcome Joe Walsh. Obviously a classic.

Classic

One song carries the album, but it is a great album nonetheless

Such an incredible album. Really great musicianship and incredibly well written material. A classic. Favorite tracks: “Hotel California,” “New Kid In Town,” “Life In The Fast Lane,” and “Wasted Time”

The imprescindible album.

Yesss.

Tenho que dar 5 estrelas pq se não fosse por Hotel California mãe não teria deixado eu fazer aula de guitarra

It's one of the greatest albums of all time. Hit after hit.

Great social commentary.

Picture slow dancing, fireflies, and a rocking chair and you've got the Eagles. Welcome to Hotel California!

So slick and pleasant to listen to. Nothing lives up to the opening track, but it's still very good!

heavy on the "Catalina Breeze" cheese but I think people (millennials?) are a little too harsh on this band/era of music (Lebowski's fault?). this is a great LP. although I wish Randy Meisner would take lead vocals more often

I went in only knowing one song, and I'll leave only remembering that same song. But it's good classic American rock, with extra dollops of cheese. Old man rock (basically pop ballads with guitars). My head says three, but I'm a bit of an old mam myself.

I did not want to enjoy this as much as I did. I made a concerted effort to try and block out any previous feelings I had about the album based on the ubiquity of Eagles hits on classic rock radio etc. This was one of my dad’s all time faves in high school in the 1970’s (of course) and so I tried to put myself in the headspace of a kid hearing these sounds for the first time and MAN, I have to admit this is just a stunning sounding record. Even the title track, which we’ve all heard a thousand times and feels like it has the potential to induce some rolling of the eyes, is so thoughtfully constructed and composed, it’s tough to find anything to criticize. Joe Walsh was operating at such a high level here. The ‘Life In The Fast Lane’ riff? Get outta here, man. Ripper. Idk dudes, I think I just fw the Eagles now. Whatever.

I totally forgot that Life in the Fast Lane was on this album haha

I was surprised to learn that the song, Hotel California, is the opening track on the album. I would have thought it was the closer.

Classic

BEFORE: I'm generally with Jeff Lebowski when it comes to the Eagles. I was over-exposed to their earlier Greatest Hits by various drunk bogan relatives at family holidays, wedding receptions etc. but I'm a little more open-minded with this album and even partial to the singles in the right context. AFTER: The production is incredible. Every instrument sounds crystal-clear in the mix while preserving a strong sense of dynamics. The music itself is more of a mixed bag. HIGHLIGHTS: The guitar work on Hotel California, Life in the Fast Lane (I like Joe Walsh), Victim of Love apart from the the chorus, Try And Love Again even the ridiculous falsetto outro, the harmonies and production throughout. LOWLIGHTS: Wasted Time is turgid and forgettable in a way that no string section can fix. A Peter Cetera-level turd rolled in glitter. The Last Resort is a better ballad but is at least 2 minutes too long. Pretty Maids All In A Row is forgettable and the intro is cheesy. VERDICT: A light 4 stars. Too many ballads but otherwise better than I expected.

GOT HELLA EXCITED SEEING SOMETHING I ACTUALLY RECOGNIZED BUT gawd i zoned out the whole time listening to it

Franchement bien sympa

Lungijees

I was ready to not enjoy this, partially in bewilderment that an Eagles compilation album was once the biggest selling album *of all time* in the US. However, it actually is a pretty good listen! The opening title track is of course iconic (transports me back to a family holiday in California where my dad pretty much only played songs from a playlist of California-themed music), and New Kid in Town and Life in the Fast Lane were nice surprises to hear next (I didn’t know they were Eagles tracks!). The rest is fine but comparatively unremarkable. Still very listenable and good value for 4 overall.

The Eagles might be one of the corniest, most ‘yacht-rock’ American bands ever, but I have to admit I do really enjoy them. The opening trio is just brilliant: the undeniable classic title track, the relaxed, country-infused ‘New Kid in Town’ and the riff-driven rocker ‘Life in the Fast Lane’. The middle of the album isn’t quite as good, but it ends really strongly with ‘Try and Love Again’ (my favourite of the more ballad-ish tracks) and the great environmental lament ‘The Last Resort’. It sometimes verges on the schmaltzy, but the melodies, guitar solos and vocal harmonies are fantastic.

First song is of course a banger , rest of the songs are typical feel good eagles songs def classic good rock very strong album.

The dude and I differ on one major point. I love the eagles man.

#982. People that don't like the Eagles are silly people that are not to be trusted. 4/5: great.

Legendary, every track sounds big and like it was made to be a classic from the start. It's definitely the type of album that even non rock listeners would enjoy.

6/22/26. I obviously know the title track, but the whole record delivers! It might be the epitome of 70s soft rock and approachable sound. Really liked the strings on Wasted Time.

Hotel California, bonne toune mais overplayed rendu là! J'ai bien aimé mais préféré leur début qu'on a eu 4 jours avant. Bien aimé Try and Love Again en fin d'album.

Great album, classy.

Surely there's an irony in setting out to make a big statement about the hollowness of American life, its consumerism and excess, business and art only to have it become one of the biggest selling albums that everyone had to have, so it became almost a symptom rather than a diagnosis. It's expert, if, at times, overblown with its own importance, although any thought of the Eagles being desperado cowboys has long gone. This is about as AOR as it gets and at times veers dangerously close to yacht rock. Probably seemed a lot more daring in 1976, before everyone had heard it too many times.

I liked the album much more than expected

I've heard the hits off of this but never the full thing, incredibly beautiful album wow.

I’ve never been a huge Eagles fan, their music has always felt a little antiseptic to me. That said I knew basically every song on this album, which says something, but it suffers from overexposure. I might feel differently if I didn’t associate the Eagles with the background noise of every restaurant, grocery store, and car ride growing up. But it’s undeniably a classic, even if it’s not really my thing. 4/5.

Definitely a lot better than their self-titled album. Having to hear Hotel California over and over again for the past 5 years of my life because of marching band has given me a weird love/hate relationship with the title track. I've probably heard that song a triple-digit number of times at this point, same with Mirrors by Justin Timberlake and Sweet Child o' Mine by Guns and Roses. If you can't tell, the staff was split pretty down the middle between people in their early 40s and early 50s. Anyways, I'd say "I can't hate it" but that implies that the only reason I like this album is because I associate it with being in band. That's not even kind of true, I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. Being stockholm syndromed into liking the title track probably had a part in it (damn you Ms. Russell), but even the non-singles are pretty good to me. Those last few slow songs at the end even got to me a little.

Hotel California as a track is overplayed. But it is still good, and the rest of the album holds up. Not floored, but also not hating it.

Lots of 12 string guitar ballads, excellent and memorable lead lines, Don Henley and Glenn Frey bring warm, smooth and elegant vocals with tracks like “wasted time” fast becoming my favourite. The production on this album is exceptional also big fan of that.

One of the most heavily frontloaded albums of all time. It cannot be a 5

Good album. Wish there were More 6 minute songs made today. Try and Love Again is my favorite. Hotel California you will always be famous

It's funny, because I was just listening to this apropos of nothing. So obviously I think it's a pretty good one 4 or 5 out of 5.

It’s slick and perhaps over produced. It’s almost a cliche of 70s pop rock. It’s not my favorite version of the Eagles. But it’s still pretty great: the songs pop and the lyrics capture and satirize the post-60s malaise.

Some generational classics. Some soft ballads that didn't work for me. 7/10

Very nice

Pretty good

Rating:★★★★ Classic. Lots of great songs here, not to mention the intro title track that everyone's heard on the radio. a great group of songs.

I was primed and ready to hate on Don Henley but unfortunately this is a really solid rock album. Some fantastic songs on here, with Try and Love Again being a surprise standout for me. The softer songs definitely bring the album experience down a bit, but I was honestly pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed this album.

Classic album lots of hits

Good shit right here.

Rocking out. Good lyrics would seek out.

This album is so canonical that people rarely say the obvious thing. It is also the moment when the Eagles’ strengths become inseparable from their weaknesses. The precision can feel icy. The professionalism can feel bloodless. The emotional distance is part of the point, but it also keeps the album from hitting with the raw human force of the very greatest records.

Excelente disco. La verdad que sólo conocía la primera, que es un temón, pero el resto estuvieron muy bien también.

Several hits here including the title track and Life in the Fast Lane. This album is not available on YouTube music for some reason, so I had to listen via a playlist on YouTube. Wasted Time, Try and Love Again are also top notch. New Kid in Town is solid. Victim of Love and The Last Resort are ok songs. Overall a very good album.

I feel The Eagles went from overrated to overhated. Are they a revolutionary band? Nah. But they know how to make catchy music with engaging enough content -- the prime of which is Hotel California. Not exactly high art, but happy to play it on any road trips.

Started off strong, but the songs kept getting worse as it went on.

So many people supposedly love this album that you kind of expect it to be great. And Hotel California (the song) is great. New Kid In Town and Life In The Fast Lane are pretty good. After that, the album is a bunch of mostly soft rock that is half ok and half boring. I'm still giving it a 4 just because of the title track.

It's crazy how the two tracks on this album that I knew, I feel like I have heard over a thousand times, but knew virtually none of the rest of the album. I think the angles are misrepresented as a rock band , if rock is what you're looking for I think you'll be disappointed. That said, this blend of country inspired , soft ballads and solid songwriting scratches an itch I didn't know I had. I can see why this album was so huge.

I really like how smooth the music feels. I am definitely more of an Eagles fan than most. It was interesting to listen to "Hotel California" in the album context, because it was clear that the other songs added to its meaning.

I'm digging this for sure. Feels very classic rock, not super experimental but just a very solid and great sounding album

Great album! A classic! With a few of the eagles timeless classics! Hotel California is literally one of the best songs ever constructed!

Hotel California has aged like a fine wine. Some of the other songs are decent too, but honestly not what I expected. New Kid In Town is probably my second favorite.

I liked this album quite a bit. Another one difficult to find on youtube music, but fortunately someone put together a collection. But I liked this quite a bit. I can see why their greatest hits album sells so well. The hits are outstanding, but the other can be so-so or a miss, but never bad.

i think this might be one of my favourite title tracks for an album ever, i’ve been familiar with hotel california and the eagles forever but this is the first time i’ve actually payed a bit of attention fully to her and this song is incredible. that is an impeccable opener. okay taking into account that I have been familiar with the eagles, but I have only ever known a couple songs at best through the radio or just in the wild, i didn’t expect more of a country sound tbh, i thought it would be a bit more rocky but its actually pretty fantastic. three songs in and i’m hooked, that riff in life in the fast lane is sensational. i think the first three tracks is my favourite 3 track run of all time

I like

honestly, I liked it. It deserves a 4!

Klassiker. Geile Gitarren und catchy melodien

I grew with this one at home. Brings back a lot of memories. Besides great songs & great singing Joe Walsh really kicks ass one this one.

The Eagles was a perfect choice for a chill Monday morning.

A few absolute bangers, a few bits of filler makes it a four

Obviously some classics on here and songs I legitimately but 1 star off because I hate the fuckin eagles, man

I can understand the people who love The Eagles as well as those who hate them. They were the masters of their particular brand of Laurel Canyon country-rock in the 70s. However, they all earned their reputation for being coked out, thin skinned, vindictive assholes. Regardless of their personality defects, this album is a high point of its era. Nearly every song on this album receives regular radio play. Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane are considered the high points of this album, but I'd put them low on my list after Pretty Maids, Victim of Love, New Kid in Town, Last Resort. There is a melancholy behind all of the sun-soaked-LA sheen they are trying to sell.

*angry rant only tangentially related to the music incoming* I made a terrible mistake by reading some of the more popular negative reviews of this album (and, by proxy, the Eagles) at the ripe ol time of 4:30am this morning. I think Ive stumbled upon one of the more noticeable instances of people hating for the sake of hating. Something similar to the phenomena back in the day of hating Nickleback because it’s popular/funny. A lot of hate also directed at the band members for what is, most of the time, standard rockstar misbehavior - lawsuits over naming rights, despising critics, lyrics about how women are often in the wrong about a relationship etc etc. If any violent or physically harmful acts were committed that I dont know about, I'll happily retract my statement on that. Where the hell is this vitriol for folks way more deserving of it?? Like Steven Tyler, anything he’s been involved in shouldn’t be on this list imo, he did some actually BAD stuff. Or Neil Young, if you wanna come to your senses and make it actually about the music. Neil’s voice is hackish and shrill, and clearly paved the way for the Eagles. He’s also flippant and just as annoying than the Eagles, if not way more. Additionally, I feel like the conflation of Eagles music with hardline American conservatives and ladder-pulling boomers is so lazy. Like yeah, of course there’s a correlation there. The sky is also blue. This is what was popular back in the day. Very popular. And it turns out, for some good reasons! Conflating the eagles cultural impact with conservative America is just as bad as conservatives criticizing music they think has “gone woke”. Above all of this, the Eagles music clears most American rockstars of their time! Ok, with the rant mostly out of the way, how was this album? Pretty darn solid. Not the bastion of perfect music, but not at all grading on the ears either. The Eagles can be observed taking the fusion of country and rock to it's logical conclusion. Perfect harmonies, quick hooks, standard guitar solos. The opening title track has got to be America's version of Stairway To Heaven (maybe Free Bird can claim that title though). Instantly recognizable melody with a linear but mysterious story. "New Kid In Town" is not the best of their slow, acoustic jams in their rock era. Yet they still pull off a chorus that ends in such a sticky way. "Life In The Fast Lane" is really on the nose, but is one of a few songs on here that are critical of the American maximalism of it's time. I keep going back to these songs and then try to understand what people want from this band when they're so critical of them being pretty boys from L.A. with hypocritical habits. They're literally making pointed critiques of the awful lifestyles they steep themselves in. "The Last Resort", line by line, is about destroying the natural land in America for capitol gain. What more do you all want from them. I also really appreciated the reprise of "Wasted Time", it was a thoughtful touch right when a little change of pace was needed. I've been so heated about these negative reviews, it derailed my ability to get through this review cleanly. The Eagles greatest hits goes nine rounds with most other classic rock bands greatest hits. 4/5

las más baladosas me gustaron

I prefer “One of These Nights” to this album but it does contain a couple of bangers. I added “Life in the Fast Lane” to my playlist as it is less heard than the title tune.

The go-to testing album. It's solid, but not the best.

Decent album, has a couple stand out tracks

GRAN DISCOO, dios tienen un tema que solo pensaba que sexy es el rock loco! Life in the fast line sos mi corazon entero. Me guarde varios temas.

Quite good

The instrumentals sound really incredible so far.

Hotel California is just so good and I'm saying that after listening to this song literally all summer because I'm in California. The rest of this album is decent. 4/5

Hotel California is a banger, duh. I rlly enjoy the eagles more mellow songs, I've been listening to New Kid in Town since listening to this, other stuff is good too but stands out less to me.

i always enjoy the eagles and i really really love their harmonies. i’d only heard two of these songs before and i really liked it

3.5, I liked 4 of the songs and overall vibe was cool.

love it

muy bueno la verdad, si bien hotel california fue la unica que conocia, las otras tenian su magia igual

Was not expecting the title track to be one of the weakest. Does not lose itself in its grandiosity. 4 flat.

Es un disco que tiene ese equilibrio perfecto entre lo melancólico y lo envolvente. Su atmósfera tiene esa cadencia relajada. como un hotel de emociones.

eh acceptable. hotel california is a classic for a reason. you can see why dads love the eagles. but perhaps i am not that dad just yet. give me 20 years and maybe it'll be my time.

Great album! Classic

I thought this would be overshadowed by the title track but to my surprise this was actually quite a great album all the way through. Some of the slower more piano led tracks didn't do as much for me as the other songs but I thought each track here had enjoyable qualities and there was nothing here that I hated. Very simple 70s rock music, but I enjoyed it. Favs: Hotel California, New Kid In Town, Try And Love Again, Life In The Fast Lane Least Fav: Wasted Time 8.1/10

Commanded by Hotel California, this album mix ballads and classic rock songs, making it very easy to hear, soft melodies and a couple of guitar solos. Top songs: Hotel California, Wasted Time, Victims of Love

웰컴투더호텔캘리포니아~

For the culture, it’s a 4. Personally probs closer to a 3 for me but eh

The Eagles are an interesting case study in nominative determinism. Bernie Leadon plays guitar like a guy named Bernie Leadon, and Joe Walsh plays guitar like a guy named Joe Walsh.

Álbum excelente! Vai além da faixa título, é um disco muito agradável de ouvir. Tudo muito bem tocado e com vocais ótimos. Kawanoaudio Horaiko.

Es imposible que no se te venga a la mente la canción que representa básicamente al álbum.

All time classic album

I liked it.

Hey this is actually pretty good!

Nah this whole album had it going on

Favorite Track: Hotel California

Еее рок

Surprised by how much I enjoyed. Not as crusty as expected

Amazing rock album that has hits and is really kind of timeless something that everyone who enjoys rock and especially more older rock should listen to at some point

Legendary, didnt care for some of the slower songs but GG fantastic

This was my second time listening and I think I’m a little less sold on it than the first time I listen still amazing by any standard and I think the eagles second best album.

For some reason, my mother gave me a Hotel California t-shirt for Christmas a few years back, before I really listened to the album, but listening to this list makes me really appreciate the album and her gift. This is such a quintessential 70s album that still holds up well, with nice harmonies and classic tracks. It has brilliance in its hits and enough in the album tracks for a really enjoyable listen. Such a great driving album, and I'm happy to wear the shirt.

Vind ik gewoon super chill. Kan ook 5 miss

quintessential Dad rock

A classic. Although the whole album was not available on Youtube Music.

Really good, not quite as perfect as eagles by eagles but still enjoyable. Specific rating - 4.4 Fav song - try and love again Least fav -wasted time (reprise)

Starts off with an all time classic that never gets old but fails to reach those heights again. Still a good album though.

Rock on, dads.

3.5; it was a pretty good album and the single was amazing

Thoroughly enjoyed. I put off listening this album for such a long time because of the false notion that it would be a bore. I was pleasantly surprised, I don’t really have anything bad to say about it

No. 390/1001 Hotel California 5/5 New Kid in Town 4/5 Life in the Fast Lane 4/5 Wasted Time 3/5 Victim of Love 4/5 Pretty Maids All in a Row 4/5 Try and Love Again 3/5 The Last Resort 4/5 Average: 3,88 Didn't know any song aside from Hotel California beforehand. Overall the album was better than expected.

I came a lil, 1 or 2 skips

There’s a reason it’s so well known, yk?

Favourite Track: Hotel California or New Kid in Town

“I had a rough night and I hate the fucking Eagles, man!” I don’t hate the Eagles but I can’t hear a single note of their music without that quote popping in my head. I think this is the best Eagles studio album, but it’s hard for me to say it’s some masterpiece. The title track is iconic, of course, but in my humblest opinion it drags a bit at times even though it’s a modest 43 minutes long. Outside of Hotel California and Life In The Fast Lane, it’s the softest of soft rock and often walks a fine line of beautiful and cheesy. I think The Eagles were a tremendous band who wrote a handful of amazing songs, but something about the production of their studio records hasn’t aged well in my opinion — outside of Don Henley’s incredible singing. I think that’s why they’re a band best consumed live (the first half of Hell Freezes Over slaps) or via their greatest hits album or playlist.

why do people hate the eagles? what the fark is wrong with them? this was incredible!! poignant lyrics and showcases why the eagles were EVERYWHERE in the 70s. people just love to hate i fear. Fav Song: New Kid in Town Least Fav: Wasted Time (Reprise)

Great! Really fun and nice even though the title track is overplayed.

"New Kid in Town" was good, but this album was a 3 in my mind with the first 3 tracks; they're a classic rock band and "Hotel California" has been played so much that it's difficult to engage with it with any enthusiasm. But hearing the strings at 1:48 and pianos in "Wasted Time" pushed it to a 4, it felt like one of those deeply inspired musical moments that gave me immediate goosebumps. From there it maintained my expectations of it, with more of that classic rock sound.

Nice job was done in this release. But damn wdym frank should pay every time performing American Wedding?

no puedo creer que conocia la mayoria de las canciones y nunca habia escuchado el album completo!! es muy bueno y tiene mas sentido asi me genera nostalgia de algo que no vivi

great music

After the obviously classic opener, it all becomes a little uninteresting. The album is front-loaded with the better melodies then sort of slips off a cliff. 2.5

are you allowed to do a reprise of a song that immediately came before it? guess it makes more sense if you consider the format. kind of peters out at the end. solid. joe walsh is the best part of the band.

Nice album to listen to on my birthday but it doesn’t hold up to the promise of the title song.

Buen disco

This is one of the best albums, I think, to come out of a band. I think that this is a no-skip album, worthy of its praise. There are some softer tracks mixed into this record, which I think work really well. Wasted Time (Reprise) is a beautiful filler to split the first and second half of the album. There is a clear difference between the first and second half of this record, but unlike a lot of others, this doesn't make you want to turn it off after the first five tracks. Favourites: New Kid in Town Life in the Fast Lane Wasted Time (Reprise) Hotel California

Title track is obviously an all-timer. One of the most memorable songs ever written. The rest is less so. But still smooth fun. (3.5 stars)

One of my dad's favorites. And I can clearly tell why. What a banger.

70s rock at its finest. Tight band, fun songs, and lots of nostalgia. 4.3.

I've been a hater of this album for so long but it has some gas. For whatever reason, this trope of songwriting really does do it for me. It's likely the musicianship and harmonies but even then it's like wow where did that chord change come from so often (positive). Hotel California is an overplayed mess but it's a great song; in a vacuum of not hearing it 24million times I can fully see why this is one of the best songs ever written. New Kid in Town is beautifully written and fun, SICK harmonies, sick chords. Life in the fast lane is good and silly; what would we be without Cars the movie as a culture. I might just really like Joe Walsh, he writes such interesting guitar parts and the Eagles are only better with him. Wasted time didn't do a lot for me, victim of love picked it up a little bit but mainly Joe Walsh again. I'd be remised to not note that I sort of forgot I was listening to the album at this point as one song folded into the next. Other than the occasional Joe Walsh lick the rest does nothing for me. Maybe "they" were always right and this an album that starts off strong as hell and just fades out to nothing.

Pretty iconic album, heard many of the songs many, many times. The one’s I hadn’t heard before, were surprisingly good.

Classic

Daneben etablierten sich New Kid in Town und Life in the Fast Lane als eigenständige Klassiker.

Solid hits. You can't really go wrong with this album. Even the more obscure tracks are solid. I mean, yeah, it's country adjacent rock, but it's good. My Rating: 4/5

yt musıcde albumum yarısı yoktu rezıl uygulama 💔

West coast dad rock at its finest

A classic, great stuff with OK stuff

Hotel California is such a classic song, I was surprised that I recognized a lot of the other songs on the album that I didn’t realize that the Eagles played also.

Such a good album, surely the best opening and title track of all time? Hotel California is the ultimate story song, it’s so good, each part intertwining and keeping you engaged. Then following that the rest of the album stays on par, beautiful songs. Eagles get shat on quite a lot and perhaps often rightly so, but this album is great. Maybe they don’t always deserve it. 4.0/5.0 Best Song: Hotel California

What can you say about it, they are american rock distilled, very american, very rock. They have some GODDAMN harmonies and they are a lot of fun, but i still feel like i can't ever truly say i love the eagles. There is always something that doesn't fully align with me. Best Track: Hotel California obvs

bem top visse hotel calioca

Makes me want to drink shit beer in a red flannel shirt on the porch of my farm house. Man I fucking love Eagles

I don’t love this album as much as the self titled album, but it’s still a fantastic classic.

Real MOR sounds. Inoffensive but not particularly noteworthy. Majority rules means this is popular but not with me.

First two tracks are perfect. Middle section drags on a bit. Last two tracks are great. Kitschy but has tasteful palette of the 1970s.

lowk had some bangers. i felt it in my bones fs,

"Hotel California" ja "Life in the Fast Lane" siin plaadil, uskumatud lood ikka.

Will struggle to listen to this without thinking of Yacht Rock. Overplayed? Overlistened? The opening track is a banger, love the bass - stays on the same simple melody but it flits beautifully in and out of the drums. The aolo is almost too iconic to objectively judge, but beautifully clean and laid out. Why the Carribean feel drum fills give it a more californian sense i dont know, but they do. My question for thie album is how can it have groove, swng, funky elements, etc but still sounds like the whitest music ever. Shit there are even disco elements in there. Its a good album.

Lots of really enjoyable songs. Won't ever be unhappy listening to this.

Third album I ever owned. Probably could karaoke the entire album.
