Reviews (page 6 of 13)

Pretty good. Nice chill vibes.

I liked it! This felt like a proper 80s pop album in all the best ways possible. It was smooth, it had bops I had it on repeat all damn day! I mean it, I had a ton of fun with this album, was it like high art? No, but the music was really good and had those nice jazzy tones that I do love so much plus it kept me in a high spirit all day so you cant beat that. It wasn't perfect but very deserving of a 4.

I really enjoyed this album more than I thought I would (common thread in some of my reviews). Sades voice was amazing. The sax solos and intros were smoooooth. The instrumentals were on point. Just really good album all the way through for me. Main reason I knocked a star off is all of the songs felt long to me. Like just droning on the last 30-45 seconds or so. But still, excellent album overall!

I only knew "Smooth Operator" (and I thought I hated that song when I was fifteen). But after listening to Diamond Life, I think I'd listen to Sade sing the damn phone book. It wasn't a perfect album, but I enjoyed it WAY more than I thought I would.

Smoooooth

Loved it

I liked this one! Kind of a mix between Joan Armatrading and the early 1990s R&B that I'm familiar with. Also reminded me of the kind of thing my mom might like. :)

delicinha hein. super sexy! smooth operator é boa demais vsf

Enjoyed this one

Wished we could do half stars. I'm gonna Fantano this with a Light 4. I didn't expect the intro to Smooth Operator lol

Previous to me listening to this album, I had only heard Smooth Operator and thought it was a good if overplayed recent trend song. However, this album has so much great stuff to offer besides the most popular song. The smooth jazz/soul vibes are beautiful and Sade’s voice is incredible in tone and flow. I’m stunned by how much I found myself enjoying the sound of this album, and I can see myself playing this over dimmed lights and cocktails any night.

8/10….Soul/Soft Pop

4 stars

Classic 80s smooth jams

Love! Veryy nice

The stellar debut from Sade is just as funky, groovy and sensual as always. This one doesn't quite hit the high peaks of their later releases, but it's still a damn fine listen from start to finish.

Eating this one up. Love the vibe of the whole thing and Smooth Operator is just a banger. Her voice feels like rain on my skin. Favorites were Smooth Operator, Your Love is King, Frankie's First Affair, and I Will Be Your Friend

This sounds like driving over fresh asphalt feels. Her voice is great and the backing instrumentals complement it nicely. Favorites were Smooth Operator, Your Love Is King, Frankie’s First Affair, and Sally.

smooth operator

Enjoyable listen, well sung and played. Takes me back to the Eighties!

Sure is sexy. Damn.

Diamond Life is the debut studio album by Sade, originally released in 1984. This is really smooth. Like silky smooth. Like bordering on corny 80s slick. For some reason I was really digging this today. The sax definitely gets cheesy at times but this album made me feel like I was living in NYC in the 80s. Definitely perfect for late night listening. The production is amazing too. This would definitely be one of those albums that audiophiles use to show off their systems.

That sound, designed for 80s hi-fis, her voice. It never rocks the boat, but it never needs to.

Each song is enjoyable but listening to them back to back makes them feel samey. Still a rocking album.

Really liked this, Sade has such a unique voice

This album is a tough rate. I can say I liked what was going on for the whole album, but something just wasn't clicking all the way, for me personally. I enjoyed the smooth jazzy vibes a lot. Felt like I was in a 1940s black and white detective film. The main vocalist I think is what leaves something to be desired. She is by no means bad, but I'm not so sure she matches the best with the music. I think a true rating would be 3.5, but I'll round to 4 for the sexy sax.

Hang on to your love continua la racha imparable de gemas, que sigue con Frankie's First Affair y When Am I Going To Make A Living. La cara B abre con una delicia como es Cherry pie y, tras Sally, sobre todo I will be yoru friend otra de la mejores canciones publicadas por la banda. El disco se ciera con una buena versión del Why Can't We Live Together de Timmy Thomas. No fue mal año 1984 con otros debuts como los de Run-DMC, The Smiths, Dead Can Dance, Nick Cave, LLoyd Cole and the Commotions, The Style Council y clásicos instantáneos como Purple Rain, Ocean Rain, 1984, Recknoning, Learning to Crawl, Ride the Lightning, Like a Virgin, Let it be, Zen Arcade, Knife, Born in the USA... o Deseo Carnal y Make it Big.

Definitely a classic for a reason. Her voice is so smooth, and the instrumentals here are slinky and varied. They keep it interesting enough to stay exciting throughout, but also leave lots of room for her vocals to breathe.

Diamond Life is the debut album from Sade, a British band that takes its name from their lead singer. Sade make a smooth-jazz style of soul, that had international appeal. The album's and the band's success was pushed by their hit single, "Smooth Operator." Sade's strong, smooth vocals are accompanied with a simple, downbeat jazz band: bass, guitar, organ, and drums - with an occasional saxophone. The band made great pop songs in their modern rendition of jazz vocal standards.

What a voice!

So smooth, very laid-back. Really wanted to give this a 5 but didn't click with me to the extent I was hoping it would

The opening track doesn't work for me. Your Love is King got me back to at least pay attention. When am I Going to Make a Living is a cool track. Great voice, vocal skills, and solid instrumentation and compositions. I think this is a cohesive album and very listenable. I would like to say don't see myself listening to it in the future, but it may have won me over.

Hang On to Your Love's instrumental was amazing. That saxophone on Sally holy crap. 3.5/5 but I'll round up.

Love it

Coming into this I only knew of Sade from Smooth Operator, this album was a delight. The whole album had a funky, silky smooth groove to it. Every track was enjoyable.

Sade's first album, never heard before even though I've listened to her quite a few times. Contains a quite a few songs that are of similar "cheesy love song with saxophone lead" as 'Careless Whisper' 'Smooth Operator', and 'Your Love is King' for example. But that's not all the album it is, the album is loaded with lots of electric piano and really tasteful grooves and basslines and I just find myself nodding along. Most songs are pretty good actually, but 'Smooth Operator', 'Why Can't We Live Together' and 'Cherry Pie' are some examples of songs that stand out for me. A thing with 'Smooth Operator' that someone pointed out is that "Coast to coast, L.A. to Chicago" makes no sense since Chicago is not at the coast. In summary I didn't expect this album to last all the way through, but I think it didn't and liked it more than I thought I would. Weak 4!

8/5/24. This album will always remain one of my favorites, and love Sade's vocals and the song structures.

Rating: 8.5/10 So damn smooth, the best songs are incredible and have fantastic instrumentals, vocals, and production. The rest are definitely more generic, still have some nice instrumentation but no where near the quality of highlights. Favorite songs: Smooth Operator, Your Love Is King, Hang On To Your Love, Cherry Pie, We Can't Live Together. Worst song: Frankie's First Affair.

Cleaned the house and felt like I was in an episode of Miami Vice the entire time....would listen again.

A very sensual, smooth album. Sade has a great voice but the musicians (esp. the rhythm section) are great too. Great to chill.

Smooth operator and hang on are great! Sade has an inherent coolness that makes you feel cool listening, and then there you are being all cool with a cool head bob on your cool commute, crushing it

I had a buddy in the service that played this record almost on repeat and I would get a little irritated at hearing it so many times. The reality is that this is a good record and hearing it again I was nostalgic, I need to give my friend a call.

I'm torn between a 4 and 5. It's really good. I just don't think people get how good it is.

You need to listen to Diamond Life removed through the prism of emerging yuppie shit that was taking hold at the time. This is a product of the Ldn Nu Jazz that was coming up from the clubs, and not twats wearing red glasses. Sure, it's highly polished. But that's the appeal. Clean living under difficult circumstances, etc.

The fact that Sade doesn’t rhyme with Suede makes me sad HL: “Smooth Operator”, “Hang On To Your Love”, “When Am I Going to Make a Living“, “I Will Be Your Friend”, “Why Can’t We Live Together” July 12, 2024

Really liked it. Great vocals, great jazz influences, and the beat made me move.

I enjoyed her voice very much

Enjoyable listen - nice and smooth. I don’t really have anything else to say on this.

When I got this album I was kind of dreading listening to it. It's not really my kind of music, but I wound up enjoying it. It's not something that I would go out of my way to listen to, but is very pleasant background music.

Very cozy ...

Silky smooth music and vocals. There's nothing particularly mindblowing about this album, but is is very much easy listening. Very chill. I've seen a lot of negative reviews complain about sax solos, but I'm quite fond of a saxophone solo, even though I don't care much for most jazz elements. Smooth Operator is the most memorable track for me, but that's probably because of Carlos Sainz.

This album was super groovy. Definitely not a jazz album but jazz pop fusion with a lot of soul! Smooth Operator is a classic and I was dancing to a lot of the songs on this project. 8.5/10

Sade, the woman who marked an entire generation, because not everyone might have admitted they liked her music, everyone kept listening when one of her songs was being played on the radio. Should be 5 🌟 but to be fair to other artist, I will give her 4 1/2 instead. But what a joy to listen to this week.

Lækker!! Fantastisk stemme!!

This was new to me, really enjoyed it.

That voice That production Those backing vocals That sax 4

Album 455 of 1001 Sade - Diamond Life Rating : 4 / 5 I've had this one around for a long time and have always enjoyed it. Love the beat...love the sax...love her vocals. Good tunes. Another old friend I hadn't heard from for a while.

Sooooo sultry. Sade's voice is so warm and enticing. This is great. But not perfect. After the first two songs, the rest mostly blur together. But there's not much out there like this. It's sultry without being cheesy lite jazz (fine line). 4 stars. (And Sade has better albums. Great debut though.)

If you not fuckin’ with this u r just a misogynist sorry I did not make the rules

Smooth

Gorgeous gorgeous vocals, perfect sunny day walk album - your love is king tops them all, amazing song.

smoooooothhhhhh operator

Comfy listening. It's like she's singing with a very low falsetto. One classic song and a bunch of others I never really heard.

I have a soft spot for Sade, Sade Abu voice and that 80's smooth jazz sound.. It just hooks me in. It's odd there's quite a few other bands with that Sax up 80's sound that I just can't get into. Hang on to Your Love... Ughh what a song. Love Deluxe is another excellent album.

Smooth Operator, enough said. On top of that - Sade has a beautiful voice and incredible style. I'll admit that O would have to losten to this album more, to properly appreciate it, but as of right now, a very solid 4.

smooth

Smooth. Very well done.

Smooth indeed.

Smooth, jazzy and saxy for days. It’s a mood and that mood is a sophisticated lady driving a convertible in Miami to meet up with Crockett and Tubbs. My 13 year old self wore this cassette out. 4/5

Sounds ahead of it's time.

Day 16 - June 17, 2024 Does it remind me of elevator music? Yes. But is it a great album? Also yes. 4/5

She is wonderful in soft jazzy love songs, but their thematic sameness can wear on you.

I would never choose to listen to this but it's nice. No real complaints, just not my favorite.

Smooooth.

Great listen all the way through!

I'm very familiar with the first song. Easy to listen to; similar to jazz.

Smoooooth

Smooth operator

i'm 6yo, it's sunday morning, sun is shining through the window, my dad puts this on while making breakfast, the world is okay

Loved every track, wouldn't be able to listen to it always but "When am I going to make a living" definitely is in my liked songs rotation now

Smooooth

Unique, soulful sound. One of a kind.

This was pretty sweet. Definitely interested in listening to more

Very good

Excellent for making Açorda soup too

Listened to this many times one of my wife’s favorite albums uniquely beautiful and immediately accessible

A certain “je nais se quois” comes around when this album plays, cigarette smoke fills the room and you find yourself with your (drink of choice) in hand listening to… Sade’s “Diamond Life”.

Beautiful calm album. My boss introduced me to Sade 25 years ago and I remember thinking that it was ok for a lounge bar when it was quiet but no more than that. How wrong I was ! Cheers Stephanie you wackjob!

Some artist’s music just transcends the realm of normality. And they are capable of expressing otherworldliness simply through themselves. In many ways, I interpret Sade Adu’s music in that same way. Some people are just special. And there is no denying that. I don’t think it’s within anyone’s right to claim that people like Erykah Badu or Bob Marley, and especially their music, aren’t tapped in to some other level of the soul. Sade might have one of the most powerfully emotive and expressive voices ever. You could hook me up to an IV and pump straight liquid gold into my veins and it still probably wouldn’t warm my heart like she does. I’m just so infatuated with her voice and how incredible it sounds. One of the best vocalists to ever live, period. Her voice is not the only thing this album has going for it though. Her band is also great. And they elevate this album into becoming one of the best sophisticated pop albums ever. Its jazz influenced sound is done perfectly, and for an album released early on in the 80s, it actually sounds ahead of its time. This contains a lot of ideas that I feel became much more commonplace in modern contemporary R&B music. There are some fantastic moments of pure bliss on this album, where Sade and the rest of the band just lock in so perfectly with each other. I’m a little heartbroken that Love Deluxe is not on this list, or really any other album from her, because I would love the opportunity to talk about those as well. Rating: 8/10

Chill music that’s easy to listen to. An enjoyable experience.

I’m so into her vocal timbre. It’s so smooth and scrumptious in which to listen!

love deluxe is far better but this is jazzy and gorgeous, smooth operator :)))))))

Nice. Smooth. Beautiful music.

This is something that I expected to be right up my alley. I had only heard/loved Smooth Operator before, and thought 45 minutes from them would be an easy 5. It was everything I expected (the band slaps and her voice feels tailor made for this), but I am less excited than I expected I would be and a little bored by the end. Torn between 3.5 and 4 but going up for being jazzy.

"А мы встаём из-за столика, и в зале играет Шаде Она поёт бесподобно, подобно томной пизде Она поёт бесподобно о том, что было, ушло А мы выходим свободно; о, да, мы выходим легко" Бле, тут гладкий оператор. Мне нравится. Бальзам на душу КОСТ ТУ КОСТ ЭЛЭЙ ТУ ЧИКАГО В целом, кроме этого бангера в альбоме ничего не было, но я поурчал, я кайфанул. Мне понравилось.

Chill and funky

Strong 4, Smooth Operator is an all time song, and the vibes are great.

Favourite song hang on to your love

Shes so cool, this album is great love you Sade

My dad loved Sade, so this gets one star right off the bat just for him. Fortunately, it’s a good album, too. This isn’t the most exciting, upbeat music, it then it wasn’t intended to be. It’s relaxing soulful jazz, of sorts, and she has a voice that’s smoother than butter on a baby’s butt, too. Not my go to, but pleasant and well made.

I had fun the whole way through. I can see the complaints of the songs blending together, but there are albums that do it worse. If you aren’t familiar with Sade’s work (or any artist of a different genre), then their songs will probably sound the same. However, I personally was pleasantly surprised with how diverse all the tracks are. It isn’t the most diverse project, but at only nine songs, she made a heavy hitter of a debut album with this one. The arrangements are nice and complement the vocals well. Writing and lyrics were also engaging. Honestly confused with all of the hate this album gets. 4/5

Music designed to get you laid if that's your thing. Or even if it's not. Unless you're one of those people who insist on having to point out that Sade is a band and not the lead singer. Or you pronounce it "SayD" instead of "Shar Day", even if you're trying to be what the common folk consider "funny".

Favorite Tracks: Smooth Operator Cherry Pie

I'm pregnant. It's no wonder you get the influence of Marvin Gaye with songs that preach about love and wonder at the differences between race, creed and class. She is missed but I hope she's enjoying her retirement. 4/5

Easy listening blend of soft jazz and pop. Fantastic album, and have enjoyed this band for years. Always a smooth listening experience. 4 / 5

smooooth operatoor - het aber au no es paar anderi gueti songs!

The vibes are immaculate. 4/5

I was familiar with a bunch of the songs on here from a greatest hits CD but never listened to the album in full. A pleasant journey and a nice smooth voice.

this is so snazzy i love it. makes me wanna go to a jazz club at night in a cute outfit. update: i think sally is the best song on this album omg update 2: OH MY GOD I WILL BE YOUR FRIEND IS SO HEAVENLY

I liked it and am a but surprised about that! But the funk influences combined with the smooth instrumentation were really great!

I really like the style of music, a good relaxing album. I liked Smooth Operator, Your Love is King and I Will Be Your Friend.

This had me listening to sex music all morning long. No sex though

Enjoyed listening to this. Smooth sound, good to mellow to.

Great album, cohesive and sweet, Sade is a star with a unique voice. Best Song: When am I going to make a living Worst Song: N/A

This is pretty good stuff, 3 big Top 40 hits followed by a bunch of pretty nice tracks. Gets a bit repetitive overall. I remember she was in heavy rotation on MTV, perhaps due to her being African and MTV was trying to get more black music videos on, and she fit the bill but was pretty safe music.

I’ve heard 42% of children born in 1985 were conceived to this album. Facts aside i really enjoyed this album. Yes, it’s as smooth as silk, and the production is a bit dated in places but ‘your love is king’ sounds timeless and Sade’s voice distinctively beautiful.

Smooth Operator alone nets this a four. No voice quite like hers. I wish more female artists sang in a lower register these days. It adds so much levity to her longer songs, drawing the listener in.

I was surprised but I’ll be playlisting these

smooooooth operator

Excellent album!

Smooth operators indeed, but in a good way. Very relaxed music.

So smooth an sultry real sexy time jams, timeless vibes A+

Really beautiful album. Sade has a unique R&B voice that works really well with the 80s sound.

Smooth and chill.

"When you came my way You brightened every day" great album and great memories, timeless songs

Such a voice. She was one of my first celebrity crushes.

Glat operatør 3 Nicer than expected 4

Diamond Life took me right back to the 80s Quiet Storm era, which those lush r&b vocals. Reminded me of Anita Baker, Seal, Chaka "the wrath of" Khan, etc. It was music 20something John thought showed a more adult taste. (20 year old John might have been a bit of a poser.) Good stuff, not sure it makes it into the rotation.

I was so happy to see this album pop up this morning. I love Sade, and this is the album that put them on the map. Love the vibes. Great way to start off a Friday.

impressed...

ugh, it’s nice. there is a reason they called this easy listening. what a smooth lady.

It's easy to listen to this album, it doesn't fit neatly into a genre or decade. Smooth vocals and instrumentals that just melt into the background. I don't think I've intentionally listened to a Sade song before, but it also feels like I've heard every song on the album a hundred times and am not tired of it.

Effortless chillout jazz to the hauntingly beautiful smooth voice of Sade. I was barely a teeneager when this came.out and i thought this was a good album then, and it has stood the test of time.

Amazing! I remember this being a huge hit, now it sounds like a classic. Even the songs I hadn't heard before. Especially the songs I hadn't heard before.

4 stars. Great album and I love Sade. It’s not 5 stars because I love her other albums better.

I liked this better than I expected. R&B isn't really my thing.

Pretty fun and groovy. It is a little outdated, but for the most part it still holds up

Schade Sade : )

Really good!

Wat een start! Best wel nice!

A jazzy, smooth RnB classic!

Has that mid 80s production groove that screams summertime in France. Pretty easy listening.

I agree with Owen in that the last song is a bit awful lyrically, but regardless the album created a nice atmosphere and Sade has a nice voice

Had not listened to this ftb before. The substance is lacking, but the vibes and musicality of it makes up for that!

Just very groovy and a great debut album. The bass slaps.

Greatness. This hits a certain spot that nothing else does. Probably half of the effect is sentimental nostalgia, but still. Only half.

Stylish, elegant, restrained and sounding immaculate, the only two criticisms I have is that Diamond Life is not the most immediate album, and at times it rings a little hollow. Still, tracks like 'Sally', 'Frankie's First Affair' and 'Smooth Operator' simply ooze class and quality. Sade Adu's cool, smokey vocals are so, so good that it could elevate the most humdrum material. As an aside, she's possibly the most beautiful woman alive.

4/5. A grooving and smooth album. This is very close to 5 but some songs I skip sometimes. Such good instrumentation and lyrical passages. A beautiful, low crooning voice guides this album, so unique and honestly, sexy. Hard to not like the vibe of this album.

It’s not all bangers. But it’s a solid album. You have interesting influences and the hits are great.

Me encantó.

Pretty nice sounding jazzy album.Very relaxing.Sade has a beautiful voice.Great instruments as well.

This was a welcome change from most of the generic pop of the early 80's. Sade's sound oozed feminine cool and was anthemic for many at the time. Very nice.

« Smooth jazz » est devenu synonyme de générique et cheesy; ceci prouve que ça peut être mélodieux et très travaillé. Interprétation vocale impeccable

Excellent

Rolling stone sucks. This singer isn’t in the top 50 but bob dylan is. Shame.

This is the smoothest smooth jazz I've ever heard. She is the definition of this genre. So beautiful, but I do feel like I'm walking around a Macy's when I hear this style. But I like it

Love deluxe>>>

Smooth Operator

|Great album

Beautifully done album here. Favorite track: Sally

Pop ochentero.

Great album! I could only listen to it once though, because I can only get so aroused, even while working from home.

Very smooth and chill

love it, perfekt rolig men gøy

Another one I normally wouldn’t have listened to but I like it

Honestly, didn’t start off with high hopes. Smooth Operator was always a fringe song in my mind that lived somewhere between a cheesy Jimmy Buffet song and Faith Hill. However, i really listened to it instead of passing it off and I was pleased with the song itself. What’s more is that as this album went on I really grew to enjoy Sade’s voice. The tracks are minimal and backed with simple drum tracks that appear to come from an electric piano, but are saved by some beautiful sax. Ultimately, her voice is what carries the album and conveys thoughtful lyrics and style. I enjoyed this album.

Some really lovely classic R&B, would have liked a little more variety in style and tempo but I really enjoyed this listen

AAWESOME SAX

loved it- felt like i was in a nightclub i loved the rhythm beat and flow of the music. will definitely listen again

enjoyed

Smooth, sexy, beautiful. A very easy listen. The perfect album to relax to. I am already familiar with Sade and have listened to this album many times before. It's not one that I frequent, but one that sometimes pops into my mind, and listening to it again always feels like sinking into a warm bath, or curling up all cozy in bed. Favorite tracks: "Smooth Operator," "Hang On to Your Love," "Frankie's First Affair," and "Why Can't We Live Together."

Score: 80 Album art: 70 When am i going to make a living? This album is produced and mixed impeccably, and not in an annoying squeaky clean way either. It just sounds fantastic. Every single track is good with the exception being the last one. It's just a tad too slow but the lyrics are just not very well thought out or interesting and just come off as corny. I'm not disbelieving that Sade's feelings are genuine but they just don't seem to fit here on the album. Make a living is a much better seriously toned song. Was a very fast listen. Not sure how other people think this is worthy of a 1 or that her vocals aren't good. You're on crack bruh

This is sexy, saxy music! Patrick Bateman would love this shit. There is A LOT of hate on this album but I love me some smooth jazz because I grew up listening to it and I just love this sound. It's perfect background music, but with a little funk added in. Sade has such a pleasant voice and I think she adds enough soul to make this not so incredibly bland. I can agree it probably is too boring and clean for some people to enjoy, but it's a winner for me. Fave Tracks: Smooth Operator, Hang On to Your Love

Myślę, że będę do niej wracać, szczególnie do When am I going to make a living, Frankie's first affair i Your love is king. No i oczywiście Smooth operator.

Good album, other great vocals other than Smooth Operator. Of my favorite 80’s pop singers, Anita Baker and Whitney still lead out, but Sade’s voice is also amazing

I enjoyed this quiet a lot. I'm pretty new to Sade and the only other album i've listened to is Love Deluxe. I much preferred how this album took the jazz rnb route as I think it fits Sade's voice really well. This album had some great sax playing and solos but some of the songs didn't go the jazz route and I would've preferred if it stayed consistent throughout the album 8/10

Nice feel throughout the album. Overall quite smooth and soulful.

Smooth and very relaxing

Nice surprise. I had heard of Sade but never got into it. Well written, very smooth songs.

This album was so smooth

This album fucking slaps!

So, usually, I don't like things that are too smooth and polished. I like a little bit of grit. But this album is an exception. I really love it. I love her voice; smooth and airy, no over-singing, just a little bit of breathiness. The lyrical content, I think, adds just that little bit of frisson. The romantic situations described a bit seedy, a bit gritty. I was interested to read that, because they were working at a relatively inexpensive studio without automation, they recorded live and with six people working the faders to mix, so I think there is a touch more human feel than something recorded to the grid, with samples and lots of synths and super smooth mixing. This sits right on the line between smooth jazz that becomes wallpaper lite and a laid back, mellow reverie. A quiet storm. I think this is on the right side of that line, and set a path for a whole range of British jazz-inflected music to come (Soul II Soul, trip hop, etc). Really, though, the reason I love this album is because my first girlfriend really liked it, and we listened to it a lot together. So, some fond memories there.

Nice vibes

Smooooooth

Very smooth sound.

Reference for Jazz

It doesn't get much more smooth than this.

it sounded nice to me

Lovely album. A little low key for me, but very smooth

Really cool and catchy album. Definitely will be listening again. 4

Don't care what anyone says...this is great. Happy, chilled and smiling.

Lovely, really enjoyed this on a Friday afternoon

Actually like this one a lot - 4 stars

Trailblazing R&B sound. I definitely get lost in these songs and feel like they have been going on for much longer than they have. Such a nice smooth blend of jazz and pop.

Flawless production front to back, lined up with Sade's vocals sounds very nostalgic. However, some of the hooks could've been executed better. PROBABLY DO COME BACK TO (A FEW SONGS)

Silky smooth soul. Most will of course gravitate to the big songs like ”Smooth Operator”, bit the others aren’t bad either! Very good debut, and she only got better coming out of the 80s

So smooth, So groovy. Need more albums like this. Such a vibe. So much charisma and style.

An album that emobies confidence sexiness and class. As diamonds are forever so is this album. Sade and instrumentation complement each other so well adding to the whole experience. Beautiful instrumentation, tight jazz arrangenements paired with glamourua song writng and story telling make this an album worth a listen. Highlight tracks Your lovw is king and smooth operator

Silky smooth

Great R&B tracks, soulful, subtly profound lyrics

Somewhat hit or miss, but the highs were incredibly hight and the lows were still enjoyable to listen to. A few songs went on a little long, but the vibes were solid so I definitely didn't mind it. Top tracks: Smooth Operator, Hang On to Your Love, and Sally.

no need to ask, he’s a smooth operator

Notes - Smoky voiced soul & R&B singer’s debut album - Themes of love, life as an artist - Some latin influences especially in the percussion - Just a great sounding album front to back - The band knows when to keep it reserved and low key and when to kick in - The keys are so good on this album, perfect compliment to her voice - Listened to this album for the first time a couple months ago and enjoyed it, still enjoyed it this time too! Fav - Cherry pie - Cool bass line and chorus Least fav - Sally - Cool lyrically but a bit of a let down instrumentally 4/5

Sade is always classic, and I haven't listened to this album yet but really liked it. Saved Hang On to Your Love. I love her voice and it's a beautiful blend of easy listening and R&B.

Side One is 5/5. Side two is good, but not nearly as good as the first half. 4/5

Very pleasant album to listen to, with smooth instrumental and vocals. Favourite songs: Smooth operator, Your love is king, hang on to your love, cherry pie 4/5

The percussive intro to this album is one of the iconic moments in 20th century popular music. The end.

That was so nice.

3rd Coast represent

Great voice

Used to listen to this a lot. Good at the time.

4.1 - Cool, composed, sexy, sophisticated. Sade and band toe all of the lines, and land smack-dab in the middle of a Venn diagram of many emotional circles. Consummately smooth playing complemented with some lusty saxophone and, of course, Sade's incredible voice.

No duds here — just a quiet storm of sultry smooth, jazzy sophisti-pop.

Household staple from my youth - love all of it, with extra cheese

Smooooooth operatorrrrrrr. Similar vibes in all of the songs, she has a great voice.

I listened to this one many times when it was new. On re-listen I found it still enjoyable, if a bit tired.

Smooth

No només 'Smooth Operator'. 'Your Love Is King', 'Hang on to Your Love', o fins i tot 'Sally' són igual d'atemporals.

Music to sex to I wish we came back to R&B without autotune

Not perfect but close. Great listening experience

The vibe is incredible on this. It's classic R&B and pop at its finest. I really find Sade's voice to be unique as it's more of a sing-talk. I am interested in hearing more albums from her now.

Smooth operator

Smooth and charming. A lovely album. Really close to giving it a 5 but it just needed something extra to blow me away to get there.

Heel soulfull! Top zangeres ook

Smooth

A fabulously smooth jazz album, perfect for enjoying a warm cup of tea on a rainy day. The main attraction here is Sade Adu’s gorgeous voice; it slinks around a lyric like a silk scarf, finding the nuances with the greatest of ease.

Diamond Life is a great album with a ton of killer tracks, and it makes up as a total one of those perfect cross section "sounds of the 80s" kind of vibes. 4/5

THIS GOES HARD.

R&B, Soul, 1984. The vocals on this record are extraordinary and the whole LP feels like a deep experience full of passion and love. The songs on the album are really sexy and smooth, and "Your Love Is King" is a hit which is still iconic nowadays.

It's a vibe. It's a mood. It's a groove. It's smooth.

I’ve herd of her and seen the album art but I don’t know her as such… Smooth operator is a fairly good opener I like how the instruments build up at the start and the fact that she drops the album’s title. The song definitely gets much better after the first chorus as there are added instruments and actual singing as opposed to talk/ singing! Your love is king is decent, I really love the vocals on the chorus and the sax breaks are killer! For a pop album the bass line in Hang on to your love is amazing, this album has to be perfect so far! (but we’ve only had singles). The storytelling in the first non single Frankie’s first affair is top notch and when the it explodes into a jazzy mess it’s amazing but I don’t think sade’s lounge pop style works with these lyrics. When am I gonna make a living is good not a favourite but I do like the more optimistic and slightly funky feeling that the song gives. The bass player knows how to do a cool bassline and the band really know how to build up a song cherry pie is no exemption. The only flaw here are the lyrics but at least they’re memorable ( actually a shortened version of this could’ve been a single). Sally is the most gloomy song so far and has one of the best chorus on the album also the fact that it’s apparently about the Salvation Army is cool. I like the Hercules line in I will be your friend but to be honest this one was a little boring compared to the rest of the album. The album closes with why can’t we live together there’s some good bass work but it isn’t a very interesting album in terms of the album as a whole. The last two tracks ruin what would be the 4th 5/5 in a very short space of time as up until that point it’s all so amazing every song was so interesting and provided something new. But I guess it has to be a 4/5.

Smooooth Jazz great sax Great songs: Smooth Operator Frankie's First Affair Sally

So silky and smooth! This album was part of the "cleaning the house" rotation of CD's my dad would blast through big speakers growing up, so I somehow smell Windex now.

So, usually, I don't lie things that are too smooth and polished. I like a little bit of grit. But this album is an exception. I really love it. I love her voice; smooth and airy, no over-singing, just a little bit of breathiness. The lyrical content, I think, adds just that little bit of frisson. Ahh 80's Smooth Jazz/Pop.... Sade was a sensation on the Live Aid Wembley show, super smooth and so elegant... I bought this soon after seeing her on that show. Love "Smooth Operator" "Your Love Is King" "Frankies First Affair" and "Sally" Worthwhile addition to this list in my opinion.

Fantastically produced, warm tones, expert instrumentals, and soo soo smooth.

Solid album. Very well mixed and mastered. Smooth operator is a banger.

i thought this was pretty good! not sure if i’m gonna come back to it but it was a fun listen

I'd forgotten just how good this album is. Smmooooottthhh, but in a good way!

what a bass lines, I loved her

Better than expected. Smooth Operator is a banger

Nice, feel-good music. Elements of blues.

Wow. Pretty much everyone associates "Smooth Operator" with Sade. And thinks the one track, because that was her big crossover hit. But MAN this whole album just exudes sultry. I didn't think it was possible, but she was able to outdo the sax there all throughout the album. "Sally" really struck a chord with me, not sure why. I really liked the lyrics and how she brought those out. I had to listen to more of the band's stuff after listening to the album, which says a lot about that first album. Really enjoyed the whole first album. Close to a 5-star rating, although the "Why Can't We Live Together?" seemed kind of forced. Still, all in all a really good album.

I kept picturing someone like Christian Bale in American Psycho putting this on the stereo after bringing a date home. I dug it, some great sax on here

Smooth Operator en Hang on to your love waren bij mij al bekend. Rest van het album klinkt vrij hetzelfde. Goed voor diner of s'avonds. Stand out van het album is voor mij why can't we live together. Soms herhaaldelijk maar zeer goed album

Muito bom! Outra artista para conhecer mais. Melhor música: Your love is king

Enpä tajua, miksen oo tätä ennen jaksanu kuunnella. Varmaan avausraidan kuluneisuuden takia. Mut on kyl todella jees. Sopivan hillittyä ja ehkä vois sanoa urbaania.

That’s back to back days of just vibes

Just a really nice album, love her voice and the piano and the smooth pop/jazz/rnb tunes which have a style of their own.

The songs + her voice are absolutely beautiful. This is not my style of music but the merit rates it

Powerful voice, gets a bit nothingy at points but still good stuff

Honestly great.

smooth jazz isnt my thing but maybe this one caught me on the right day. thought it was pretty cool

I was not expecting this to be so good. Sade as a whole was ok, but this album was amazing.

7/10 nice smooth 80s pop with a good vocal performance, kind of cheesy though and definitely got weaker in the second half

Solid sound but had its share of sleepy moments. 7/10

Delicate, exquisite, soulful, stirring, eloquent, elegant and a chock full of diamonds. No wonder why the first track was called smooth, hehe. Favorites: Smooth Operator, Your Love is King, Frankie's First Affair, When I Am Going to Make a Living, Cherry Pie.

The sax had me like 🤤😍

classic

This was a lot better than I was expecting. This was always my go-to stereotype song to play when a bar was closing down and you wanted people to leave but I never actually listened to it. Her voice is smooth and the songs are all easy to listen to. Does the job.

Sade has a great instrument. Classic mid-80s with sax and fretless bass.

Very smooth and nice to listen to

Sade's voice is absolutely amazing and I loved the 80's groove to this album, especially on Smooth Operator. I did wonder if there was any connection between the album being produced in 1984 and Orwellian predictions for 1984, but probably not.

Liked it! Great voice.
