Working on the Highway is on here. You don’t need anything more.
Really enjoyed this album
Super cool album. Harmonies are amazing
Loved this one
1-Star Albums (23)
All Ratings
Interesting guitar for the time but gets to be endless noodling. About half of the album is strong, other half is ok.
Not available for streaming
Slow, sappy, generally boring. Don’t hate it but wouldn’t bother with another listen.
Kind of a downer album. Imagine is ok and the last song Oh Yoko was kind of fun. Not overtly impressed.
Sounds a lot like Springstein. OK but not outstanding.
YYZ
Biggest album of my freshman year.
Not a fan. Way too mellow.
Super chill. Good start to finish.
Would be ok to listen to high. Otherwise not great, not bad, just chill.
Fun, totally 80's album First two songs are pretty good.
Way too many skits and other talk on the album. Decent songs but nothing amazing.
Laid back country rock from the late 60’s.
Good album but not the best Tom Petty
Classic blues album
Beautiful album all the way through
Unoriginal, uninspired. No idea how this album is one you must listen to before you die.
Same two measures of music with no melody repeating over and over. Just a showcase for the female vocalist. She has a great voice but every single song was about a relationship. Absolute crap.
Just average
The album that made the Beastie Boys what they are. Totally changed their sound from the first album. Egg man is a favorite.
Decent enough album but other than Good Time Boy, nothing made me love it.
Couple of good songs but otherwise kind of boring.
Cool, chill, alt album. Worth another listen.
Ok chill album
Cool album. Need to revisit for sure
First two songs are great and rest of the album is solid. Only six songs.
Great voice.
Such a great, chill album.
Nothing interesting
OK but nothing that really interested me. Way too much distortion.
Takes me back to college. Cool album all the way through.
Holy shit, what an amazing album.
Interesting hip hop but not my taste
Kind of cool new wave album.
Classic Depeche Mode from freshman year in high school. Album starts strong but fades at the end.
Orchestra pop. Really kind of liked it
Interesting album and totally different sound from anything else at the time. Three really good songs on it.
Interesting hearing early Ozzy. Good album but didn’t love it.
Album rocks start to finish. Not a bad song on it.
Super cool album. Harmonies are amazing
Absolutely generic 60’s folk rock. Entirely forgettable.
I think I was listening to Spinal Tap. Pretty much a crap 70’s album.
Pretty cool R&B album. Mostly instrumental.
Typical 70’s rock. Not overtly impressed.
So trippy and unusual
Blah blah blah
Just not into it
Pretty chill but nothing that hooked me.
Xmas music sucks
Just too damn weird.
Totally cool mid 80’s album that I had never listened to.
Entertaining
Distorted can’t understand a lyric. Absolutely shit.
Sounds kind of like a sucky REM.
Ok; kind of ambivalent
Great old school country.
Ok, don’t love it or hate it.
Ok punk
Way too many skits and only a couple of decent songs. Not sure what the hype was about this album.
Figured out that I actually like Bob Dylan
Interesting chill album
Not sure how they changed the music world with this. Roll Over Beethoven as atrocious.
Several classic songs but the filler songs are just crap.
Every single song sounds like Smack My Bitch Up.
Boring as hell folk music.
After listening to OK Computer a couple of times and just not getting the band, this album helped me understand why people like Radiohead. Chill album.
Cool electronic music for the 79’s
Three songs just repeat the same phrase over and over. The rest of the songs probably sounded good on X at a club in the 90’s.
Really just one good song. They do have great vocals.
After five listens finally see what people like about them.
Not going to turn me in to an Oasis fan but better than the other album
Not something I would listen to all of the time but was a fun.
Shit lyrics and uninspired music.
Pretty solid album start to finish. Surprised that I knew most of the songs.
Really just one good song
Kind of cool early 79’s rock
Interesting and drumming by Ginger Baker was cool
Took me several listens but I converted to a fan of this album finally
She just keeps repeating the same phrase over and over in each song. No love for this album.
Awesome album start to finsh
Standard Chili Peppers
Interesting but way too heavy for me
Jazz that makes you happy. Classic cool.
70’s rock was weird but interesting.
Kind of standard light alt rock
More average 60’s rock
Mmmm, ok I guess
Interesting album but probably wouldn’t listen to that often
Rocking album
I just didn’t get into it. May have to give it another listen
Meh
Enjoyed the album. Need to revisit it.
Maybe the worst Smiths album. Not horrible but they have better.
Late 80’s club music. Meh!
Interesting country. Really enjoyed it. Didn’t realize Illegal Smile is a year older than I am.
Too fucking long and like most live albums, sucks.
Interesting listen. Definitely enjoyed it.
Ok but nothing crazy amazing like this album is always held up to be.
This album swings. Loved it on the first listen. Got to get this on vinyl.
I wanted to be able to give it two stars but just couldn't.
Not sure it deserves a 4 star rating. Some songs I enjoy on it but some real crap too. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons aren’t great singers, the music is basic, and the subject matter only two subjects.
Really enjoyed this album
Very interesting
Too many damn skits
Not normally a style I would listen to but holy shit Meatloaf can sing. Five stars
Wish I could give it 10 stars. Just an amazing album.
Fun little album
Interesting but wouldn’t revisit. The Beatles apparently liked this guy better than I do
Kind of interesting for 70’s electronica but not worth a revisit
Weird as shit but somewhat interesting. Probably won’t give it a second listen.
Quite possibly the most perfect country album ever.
Interesting sound scape
Love her voice. Chill album.
Awesome album
Not quite my taste but I really did enjoy the album. Seems like this is something she made later in life but not sure. If so, it shows age hasn’t knee capped her artistic ability.
Interesting for the late 70’s
Just not into the tango I guess
Very old school. Don Draper would have loved it. I wish I spoke French, would have probably enjoyed it more.
I tried to like it but just couldn’t
Had never heard of this guy but totally got into the album. Solid four stars.
These guys were supposed to be the shit and this album was just so meh
Very chill album for just kicking back. Very old school.
Good album to have playing in the background. Very chill
Ok album but nothing to write home about.
Decent enough 70’s rock
Way too repetitive. I really don’t care that Slim is fucking in heaven. If that’s what’s up I want to be in hell.
Incredibly generic 90’s music
Forgot how hard this album rocks
Interesting but too damn long
Super chill. Need this on vinyl
Chill album. Not bad
I always heard amazing things about Wilco but maybe this wasn’t the album to introduce me. Not bad by any means but it just didn’t work for me.
Was going to give it three stars but the rapping sucked so hard it gets two stars.
Kind of fun time capsule listen but I don’t think I would listen every day.
Boring 60’s shit
Never got into this album
Bought the album the day it came out. I remember bringing it home and putting it in my dad’s high fi stereo and just blasting it. Still sounds as good as that day!
Old British dudes.
Basically the same song over and over
Very trippy. Enjoyed
I seriously thought this was a greatest hits album. So much good shit even though I was never a huge Pearl Jam fan.
Haven’t had one that sucked this hard in awhile
Fine in an elevator I guess
No Come On Eileen
I quite enjoyed the album.
Good new wave
Only knew the one song and never listened to the whole album before. Pleasantly surprised.
Hopefully she doesn’t have any more albums on here. Two in a week is enough
Solid heavy metal.
Interesting
Probably need to listen to it a few more times to truly get it.
My least favorite new wave album so far
Chill, sad album. I really enjoyed it.
Never heard of the guy but I really liked the album. Definitely listen to again.
Liked a couple of songs but otherwise just ok
Holy fuck I hate this album. Joplin’s voice is just grating. The band is only middling talent. People give way too much credit to anyone in the 27 club.
Loved this one
Went nice with a double scotch.
Every song sounds the same
This album started out so strong and then just fell off a cliff.
Totally loved it
This album was a whole lot softer than I would expect from a band named Hope headed by Courtney Love. Maybe bordering on pop music. Gave it 4 stars even though it probably only deserved 3.
I love Nick Cave but this shit sucks. Rare one star rating.
Completely depressing country album but damn Merle can sing. Also loved the guitar playing.
Amazing album start to finish
Got pretty good after a couple of plays through. Chill
Hated Fast Car when I was 16. At 53 I’m upset with my younger self for not realizing how beautiful this album is.
Hated Fast Car when I was 16. At 53 I’m upset with my younger self for not realizing how beautiful this album is.
Seems like this album was included just to troll people. I fully expect to get Rick Rolled next and I’ll definitely enjoy it more.
Weird and cool
What a fantastic album
Ok to start but just went on and on
Fuck Clapton. Shitty album
Lots of distortion
Maybe the greatest rock album of the 80’s.
How was Lars able to keep time with actual musicians? I would hate to have been the conductor with his shitty drumming. Falco did the symphony album infinitely better than this and I doubt he shows up on this list. Utter and complete crap.
This fucking sucked!
Normally not a bid techno fan but I just grooved on this. Probably rocks with acid
So generic 60’s
Wish I could appreciate this but it is just too much of a chaotic mess for me
Whatever
Some great songs but some crap on here as well. Doesn’t hold up all that well 30+ years later.
There are a few good songs on this one but over all I was unimpressed. Least favorite album by them
Shiite
Half the album are interludes
Love this album
Thought I would like it more than I dod
Had heard some songs but never listened to she entire album. Glad I finally did.
This was so weird and cool. Really enjoyed it.
I thought this was a soundtrack for a movie I wasn’t going to watch
Decent enough 60’s album
Reminds me a lot of The Rolling Stones country stuff. Really enjoyed this
Really loved this album
Way too much repetition on the lyrics
One good song and the rest just was lame
So generic for both genres
I really thought I was going to like this one. Couldn’t understand a damn thing the chick was singing. I think I’m going to keep hanging out with the Thompson Twins instead.
Really thought I would love this because I remembered a few songs from the 80’s that I liked. Unfortunately they weren’t on here and nothing really stood out.
Was expecting more punk
Just kind of average country. Lot of other country albums from the 70’s would have been better.
Even worse than I thought it would be
This album did not hold up well at all. Plus I hate skits on albums and this one has really shitty skits.
Never had listened to the whole album. Totally dug it
Boring as fuck
It’s just too disjointed and all over the place for me. Wish I was cool enough to like it.
I wish it didn’t have all of the banter but it lets you feel like what it was to be there.
Didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would. Actually some decent stuff on here
What an annoying voice.
Fucking boring
Pretty good album when you are high
Working on the Highway is on here. You don’t need anything more.
Awesome album to listen to stoned. Lot of Ska vibes
Definitely thought this had a cool sound. Definitely need to give it a few more listens.
Decent for getting high and letting it play in the background. That’s about it.
What an amazing album start to finish.
Didn’t realize I was folk fan. Really enjoyed this one
Decent enough chill album
Meh
Kind of interesting
Strange and kind of ok for at least one listen
Falco did non English rap way better
A two plus hour double album was fucking torture
Punk as fuck. Really loved this one
I’m glad I finally listened to a full Slayer album. Grew up in the 80’s and was well aware of them but they always seemed too heavy for my taste even though I loved Iron Maiden. I think it is the lack of any melody that keeps me from being a fan. The music is aggressive and I can dig that but it just doesn’t have anything else that appeals to me. When I got the album I really wanted to become a fan this morning but 53 year old me just isn’t in the same place that 15 year old me was. Solid 3 stars even though I wanted to give it more.
I ended up listening to this four times. The mellower middle part of the album was my favorite. Difficult choice between four and five stars.
Thought ones going to hate this. Kind of cool funk
Experimental Crap
Really solid album. Had heard a couple of songs but ended up enjoying the entire album.
I thought these guys would be way harder. Turned out to be some kind of weird punk that I mostly enjoyed.
Weird as fuck and a very loose definition of music. I would have probably enjoyed it more if I was high as fuck but this one gets two stars just for being unique
I just have never been able to get this chicks music
Laid back chill album
Went in with low expectations. Ended up enjoying the new wave
Not as good as the other Crimson album on the list
Chill cool album
The most perfect country and western album
Grrrrhhhh. Deeeggggg hhhdddd fffrreee. Pretty much the only lyrics I could understand. Also way to fucking heavy for me
Our House is good but the bike and car song sounded like the same song
Chill music for the background or to be totally locked in.
Love It Was. Good Day but all of the media clips spliced into every damn song gets old in a hurry. I’m glad he included the song that warned me about getting robbed by a big bottomed ho. I’m at high risk of that.
I really enjoyed the hippie hate.
Next by The Entirely Adequate Alex Harvey Band was somewhat ok
I really thought this would be better because of all the hype.
This album was fun as hell. Wish I could have seen this act in Vegas in three 50’s.
Not sure what all of the dog barking was about
Cannot believe that I have had 50 years to listen to this album and just now got around to it.
At least the songs were really short
Kind of sounds like everything else from the late 60’s
Kind of fun early punk
Start to finish one of the best new wave albums. Love the music and how he puts his emotions on display through his voice.
Badass Jumpin Jack Flash cover gives this one 4 stars
Pop crap
Rocked fairly hard
Not good, not bad
Feels like the same drum track on every song
Pretty decent punk
Enjoyed the heavy layered sound. Kind of makes me think of the Beach Boys and Beatles got access to electronic instruments. Probably not a heavy rotation album but would be good to have some shrooms and chill.
Pretty good new wave album
Enjoyed but not my favorite rock
It was pleasant enough playing in the background and I’m kind of partial to 80’s pop. It gets a weak 4.
Lot of variation for electronic album. Never heard of these guys but really enjoyed it.
This punk album is fire
Not really my type of music but damn she can sing and her band is pretty damn good as well. I wanted to hate this since the 80’s but after listening to the whole album I just can’t be a hater any longer.
Great background musoc
Decent enough
Sounds like they just stole Bruce Springsteins music
Generally don’t care about salsa but this one wasn’t too bad.
I wasn’t high enough for this hippy shit.
Good album to go to sleep to.
Love Talking Heads but this may be my least favorite album
Not something I would listen to every day and it is probably a lot better rolling on X. Was good for a workout album though.
The most shit hippie music on the list so far.
Didnt understand a word but still enjoyed the album
Just seems like it was phoned in. Not nearly as good as previous albums
This kind of rocked
Was much more into this album than I thought I would be
Ok, I have to admit I was pretty high and had two scotches when I listened to this album. At first I was going to give it a 3 rating. But once I got right, damn, the album got somewhat good. Got to give them 4 stars.
Talking before every damn song. Not a fan
Didn’t care for this jazz album quite as much as the others on the list.
Uhhh, should have been kept in the basement Jacks
I guess I’m into Brit Pop. Listened to the album two times through and just thoroughly enjoyed it
At first I thought this was country, then rock, then folk. I finally came to the realization that it was some Irish and Scottish dudes who can play. Loved it.
Holy shit! A punk band that can play and has some horns. One of the best punk albums I’ve gotten.
It was ok in the background
Never heard of this guy and was completely amazed by this album. Maybe my favorite discovery here in 800 albums. Buying this on vinyl.
This is a hard one. At the start I was thinking two stars and it sucked. Then it got better and was in four star range. I considered averaging to three but what the hell, it’s getting four.
Hmm, maybe my least favorite Who album I’ve heard but still liked it.
Sounds like my high school rock band. We weren’t that good
One of my top five all time albums. Love the sound. Not a bad song on here.
The song Sanctuary on the album is currently asking if I feel the vibes. No, I do not feel the vibes. This album is absolute crap. I don’t tap out of an album often but fuck this shit.
Didn't understand any of the lyrics but the music was really good.
Chill but nothing that totally got me going
Great memories of the 80’s
Really enjoyed this one.
Truthfully pretty shitty. It’s the same lyrics over and over and it sounds like Rod Stewart singing. The guitar is the only instrument to get a solo. The piano player tries once but doesn’t get very far. I’m so tired of late 60’s white British white guy blues.
Kind of boring EDM
Very few albums rise to the level of truly deserving one star.
Way unimpressed. All I can remember is he is running to tie someone’s shoe and just repeats this line until the world ends
He sure is whiny
Sounds like all the other British rappers
I didn’t realize elevator musak was a genre covered in the book. I really like jazz but this was crap
Every song is awesome.
Got high to finish Nabokov’s Lolita and put this album on. After I finished the book I realized this album was pretty kick ass. It’s albums like this that make me so happy I’m taking the 1001 albums journey. 5/5. Getting this on vinyl
Nothing interesting here
Ok background music
All of that talent and still sucked that hard. Quite impressive
A song without lyrics is an instrumental asshole
Just kind of boring background sounds
Pretty tame by today’s standards but I still enjoy old school
When my mom was listening to this in the early 60’s my grandfather used to call Joan the screaming bitch. I never actually listened to a Joan Baez album until now. Not my style but she can certainly sing.
This guy is smooth
This album rocked. Never heard of them before but will definitely listen to their other albums.
This shit jams
First listen I was unimpressed but I let it loop while reading and it grew on me. Going to give it 4 stars
This would be cool background music, also probably pretty good on acid. Just for listening to while driving though it just didn’t do it for me.
Not among my favorite Stones albums.
Heard of these guys but had not had the chance to listen. They sound like they probably started third wave ska, of which I’m a huge fan
This was so dark and so fucking cool. I had his other album a couple of weeks ago and wasn’t all that impressed. This is the reason I started 1001 albums. Getting ready to order the white version on vinyl I liked this so much.
Can never hate on new wave
Definitely more into Iron Maiden but this was ok.
I thought this was some kind of early electronic album that was just really boring.
She can sing but sounds way over produced. Just could not get into it.
She has an awesome voice
Tried but just couldn’t get into it
I guess if I was doing X in London in the mid 90’s this would have been awesome. In the garage working in’s the truck, not so much.
Worst british rapping ever.
Not my taste but I’m giving it +1 for the awesome album name
I thought this was one of the Wu Tang guys
Love that these guys have a unique sound.
I would almost rather listen to Yoko
Didn’t live up to the hype
I really think this one was put on here to troll everyone. Kid’s lyrics are crap and his “flow” is the same on everything. Normally I would rate this a solid 2, however I have so many great memories from this period of my life that I associate with a couple of the songs on this album that I’m going to have to have some grace and award Kid 3 stars.
This just kind of flowed in the background. I think every song was about fucking but the album kind of roofied me.
Somewhat listenable
