I like loud abrasive music but couldn't get into this at all, the quiet vocal mixing annoys me and it feels edgy for the sake of being edgy. Think Hurt is the best track by far and would like to hear a bit more like that.

Absolutely not my flavour. God bless Trent for being as angry as he was though.

yeah this is not an album for me. i'm sure this album was a very influential album but i think it's influential for a lot of musicians that i am not particularly fond of. i don't mind dissonance and noise, but just the way these songs are laid out just does not do it for me. there's something about the lyrics that i cannot take at face value, like they are so over the top and corny. look i am a sad boy through and through but my sad boy tendencies are not this angry. this is just eye rolling to me. this resonates with people? go take a walk or something. yeah, not my thing.

I can see the appeal of this album for hard industrial enjoyers but it's just not for me. Some really interesting sounds going on that I appreciate, but I can't see myself jamming to this album.

I was like what could be worse than the name Nine Inch Nails for a band, then I heard their music... 1 star.

This is five-star music if you're in a club or are just some poser who thinks that listening to this makes you "edgy". Thank heaven I'm neither of those things.

As I have learned from this list, I do not have much fondness for industrial music. I don't really think this is a horrible album. If you like this style of music, I'm sure it's great. But I really, really did not enjoy listening to it. Had to have the volume pretty low the whole time for the sake of my hearing. I kind of like the depressing nature of it, but there's other albums I like more that can make me depressed. I guess I'm glad that this album exists though, because without it, we would not have the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt, which I quite like. My favourite song would be Hurt, I guess? I didn't like any of the songs on here and I don't see myself seeking any of them out again.

Listen to this if you want to make your life feel more miserable. Lyrics are deep as a puddle. Vocals...just irritating. Not recommended for people in a bad mental state. And ones who appreciate their ears. If you want good electronic music with darker undertones, listen to Depeche Mode. As for depressive industrial music (but less annoying), check out Swans. Best song: Piggy (least annoying one personally, the trip-hop vibe is also not so bad) Worst song: Heresy (screaming made my headache worse)

I did not like this. Some songs were okay - a little lighter and with more of a melody I liked. But I couldn’t really hear any lyrics in some songs and it just sounded like ambient noise. Having said that, my 10 month old seemed to really like it.

Hurt proves that the songwriting is great. But dear god the performance of all the other songs is beyond unlistenable. Pure cacophony Trent Reznor was right though: Johnny Cash did make Hurt his song

Van Gogh was not crazy - just perhaps ahead of his time. My ears are crying. 1/10 1 star.

The first part of the album sounded like noise rather than music. The latter part wasn’t too horrible, but not my cup of tea. I found myself actually kind’ve liking ‘Reptile’ and ‘Hurt,’ primarily because of Johnny Cash. I don’t like them well enough to repeatedly listen though, and if I want to hear ‘Hurt,’ I’ll listen to the Cash version. I knew ‘Closer’ already and it’s cool but I can’t stomach it because of my ex. Overall, I can appreciate some of the interesting time signatures and transitions, but I wouldn’t want to listen to this again. 1/5

I just can't with this guy. But I fixed it by listening to Einstürzende Neubauten. Ahhh... much better.

People really like industrial rock? Closer always made me feel weird. I guess that's the point if this whole album is about the downward spiral to suicide. Recording in the location of the Manson murders makes me dislike this album even more. I don't ever need to listen to this album again.

Sesenta y cinco minutos de lo que sólo se puede calificar como una encerrona. Cada vez que llega un riff chulo o una melodía que puede ser interesante prefieren arruinarla inmediantamente -quiero pensar que a posta- para dejarte con el mal sabor de boca. El edging que se lo quede al que le guste pero que no cuenten conmigo

Nah mate not for me ty very much. There was one song I thought I was enjoying slightly more then I realise the album had finished and it was a suggested album from another artist LOL. Just found this all a bit embarrassing with the OTT lyrics etc

Sure it's demonic but its obnoxiousness is the bigger problem. The odd interesting figure and the mellower sections ("Piggy") and parts of the last song suggest that this project could have been much less of a spectacle, if not fully redeemable.

This was a rough day to catch up... Again, not my cup of tea. I am an indie rock girl at heart and I need to accept that. Too much yelling. Too much dissonance.

This album would not be one I would have ever reached out to listen to willingly, and now that I have given it a go my opinion has stood the test of time. I couldn't finish this one.

This album was not for me. I've heard at least two tracks off of this album before, in addition to other tracks from the band. Some of the music I did not like and I did not like nearly all of the lyrics. I did like "A Warm Place" (no lyrics). Trent Reznor is talented, and I have liked some of the movie soundtracks he has created. The other track on this album that is good is "Hurt". Reznor's version is good, and I love Johnny Cash's cover of this track. Even with a couple of tracks that I like, the lyrics and much of the mood of this album sink the rating to 1 star.

Fast schon bemerkenswert niedlich, wie bemüht gegen den Strich gebürstet dieses Album daherkommt. Die Lust am Geräusch und an der Experimentierfreude täuscht aber zu keinem Zeitpunkt darüber hinweg, dass hier versucht wird, mit Plakativität den Mangel an künstlerischer Substanz zu kompensieren (und zwar sowohl musikalisch als auch textlich).
