Always down for some Al Green

Отличный соул!

La voz es magnífica.

Unspeakably good.

Al Green is a favourite, and this is the album that introduced me to him. Great songs, slick and emotional vocals, timeless classic.

Very good

So this is definitely the kind of 70s music I wish I’d heard more of growing up. I like this one, very groove, funk.

Classic Love and Soul

Magical album. I'm a particular fan of the horns used throughout. I will be adding this to my shopping cart.

Pretty good soul music, I'm enjoying, I do think my favourite is Let's Stay Together

This dude FEELS. I felt more romantic having listened to this album. Wish I'd found it sooner

Simply Fantastic!

Really like this album I’ve heard Al greens work before and I’m not surprised by this album. Really love the title song and the whole album is full of great stuff

Hell yeah, love this sound. So smooth. I ended up listening to this one on repeat for a while.

Smooth as butter is the best way I could describe this album. At times I do find the pace of it slightly meandering, but there's no denying how brilliant the vocals and instrumentals are throughout. The band are super tight and the songs are full of soul, making for a very enjoyable listen.

Al Green’s smooth and soulful voice is amazing.

Tracks to go back to: • Let’s Stay Together (overrated) • La-La for You • So You’re Leaving • What Is This Feeling • Old Time Lovin’ • I’ve Never Found a Girl • It Ain’t No Fun to Me 6/30/26

Smoooooooth

Really enjoyed this, very easy listening and great voice

Incrível!!!!

Short and sweet. Has an incredibly warm feeling to it. His voice is soothing, the melodies are absolutely incredible, it's all killer no filler.

Groovy bass lines and that old school quality that lifts the mood and makes this album a classic soul album. The last song ‘It ain’t no fun to me’ has a really good rhythm! I’ve heard the first song, the title track ‘Let’s stay together’ before, but not the rest. A good album!

Never heard anything on this album except Let’s Stay Together. That is a great tune, but there is so much more here. His voice is so soulful and rich. The backing band kills it throughout. I look forward to hearing more of his catalogue.

Very nice and laidback and smooth. Just a lazy summer afternoon in the '70s of an album.

I feel like it's been forever since my last soul album. I haven't gotten many in recent times and I'm sad about that because I like soul music a good deal. Fortunately, Al Green is here to give me exactly what I want. This album's great! Al's voice is nice. He's got charm. He's got soul. The music is delightful. There are some really nice horns on here. The writing on here is a little repetitive and pretty basic, but the vibes are immaculate, so I don't really think about them a ton while listening to the album. As far as songs go, the title track is obviously excellent. It might be the perfect distillation of what makes soul as a genre work. I love it. The title track is easily the album's best song, but the rest of the album is no slog to get through. The rest of the songs are very enjoyable. Songs like "So You're Leaving," "I've Never Found a Girl," and especially the cover of the Bee Gees' "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" make the remainder of the album's runtime feel worth it. Why am I saying that as if the album's really long? This thing is short. I'd be concerned if someone found this album to be "too long." But yeah, I really like this album. It's not much more than a really pleasant soul album, but sometimes, that's all you need for an album to be great. Strong 4/5.

Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke get a lot of attention, but man this is right there with those guys.

Very nice and chill for the most part. Super calming and let me slow down for a bit

Smooth operator music.

Al Green rules.

Soul aus den 70ern

The tightness of Al Green’s band is unmatched. Groove.

They don’t make them like this anymore .. awesome

Perfect vibes for this very sunny day. Pleasant and smooth, enjoyed overall

Gorgeous. I do hope he eventually found a lovely lady who treated him well and did not desert him 🙂

Liked the overall vibe Feels like the album is just one big song and I like that My favorites: Let’s stay together, La-La for you- It ain’t fun for me I can confidently say I will keep listening to this album in the future

Хороший приятный соул-альбом. С удовольствием послушал.

Very good soul album, with great flow 4/5

Smooth

Classic

8/10 - Smooth, easy listening. Solid album that made me want to listen to more Al Green.

Smooth

Nice and funky, great music to dance in the kitchen to.

Outstanding

Close to 4.5. I’m more of an “I’m Still in Love With You” album guy.

Funky as shit boi

Day892 - i was worried it would drop off after “let’s stay together” but the whole album is smooth

tres gourmand je retournerai dessus à l’occas meme si ça restera un truc de fond

I like it but not the most because it's like really simple and I somewhat like simple. But don't like simple at the same time I also like how the beat and the melody's or the effects. It feels like chill at the same time even though it feels like jazz mixed. with some like rock but not a lot of rock or not to little just the perfect amount of rock and I would recommend it but not all the time though. 7.8/10

It was pretty good, liked the instrumentals.

Good songs I would recommend to many, I really liked the song itself.

Soulful and beautiful. Still prefer funk to soul but this is definitely a great album

Feels like falling in love

Overall Rating - 4.00/5 (8.00/10). Excellent soul album. The title track is outstanding.

Old-school soul van de bovenste plank! Funky vibes!

funky 3.5

Repetitive but good

Smooth, sensual soul with a sizzle and a crispness to the recordings themselves. Been meaning to hear this for years and I'm happy to cross it off my list finally. Title track is inimitable.

Very pleasant listen. 4/5

fucking awesome

A fabulous album. Super cool

Classic. Timeless. And, ‘How Can You Mend a Broken Heart’ just might be a perfect song.

It is a great album when you want some background music, either alone or with some other people. 4.5/5 - enjoyable

Excellent vintage soul. More of this!

Joyous

father or soul

Easy listening, feel good.

fucking fireeeee

Soul with a S

I listened to a big chunk of this album walking along on a warm day with a gentle breeze and it was just the perfect combination. Al Green has a fabulous voice and I love the accompaniment. One of those rare albums where the most famous song being track 1 didn't feel, for me at least, like everything that followed was a disappointment - I liked everything. As a complete side note, Al Green's Wikipedia Personal Life section is *a lot*. I enjoyed this, but not 5 stars of enjoyment, so: 4/5

Great, mellow album! Enjoyed the listen.

Heel aangename deuntjes

Altijd leuk

Bäst är Let's stay together, So you're leaving, I've never found a girl, How can you mend a broken heart och It Ain't no fun to me.

legendary shit, man at the same time i'm writing coursework

I love this album. A great voice and such tight arrangements.

listening to this makes me feel romantic and honest. like a warm cup of tea on an early morning with the love of my life or on a late night drive going somewhere cozy for dinner and driving with the windows down. his voice is natural and full of soul. making this album the perfect soundtrack to a day of romanticizing life.

Ik luister al green altijd als ik iemand leuk vind hihi. Jaa love dit. Niet de meest interessante soul ever, maar dat dramatische is altijd goed

Man this is good! I forget how f*ing good Al Green is. Another reason to do this exercise. Bring back the albums I haven’t heard in years and knew were good once, but there’s just so much music, it’s easy to lose even the good ones. Boolean: yes, very glad to have heard again before I die.

ooo lover boy, muy tierno

Al Green Not really my thing but even I could tell that In terms of feel and vibe, this is everything that D'Angelo album wanted, and failed, to be. Smooth but with edge, soulful but without being plastic, frank without being fake. Best Track - La-La For You Worst Track - Judy 8/10

Smooth as silk, and sweet like honey.

es un solido 4. Los grones cantan muy bien

Very pleasant to listen to. Voice like butter. Songs not the strongest but still good and well produced.

Peaceful album to have in the background

awesome!!!! 4.5

The Reverend can sing and Let's Stay Together is an all time great tune

Easy & moody

Also opens with a banger, groovy throughout of course but also not super memorable

Just a great soul album. Think I prefer Marvin Gaye in general, but this is damn close with a few really fantastic hits. Gives me "Going to Cedar Point" vibes, similar to Chicago to me, although Al Green is much better than Chicago.

This was a really groovy record. Not 5 star material for me personally, but groovy and amazing all around. Loved my time with it.

Mainio soul-levy. Al Greenillä on hieno ääni. Nimikkokappale oli tuttu Pulp Fictionista.

It was pretty nice 🙂. The vocals were fantastic, great vibe to it, and a really cool sound 😎. Overall, I would give this a 3.6/5! 🫠👌

Very cool stuff, good flow, great voice, great album!

Amazing start! Listened x3 in union Square Barnes & Noble

Great tunes, incredible voice, but not all of them stuck with me. Marvin Gaye at home.

Smooth!

Everybody knows “Let’s Stay Together,” and for good reason. Al Green’s voice is silky smooth on that song, and the whole album has that same easy, effortless feel running through it. It’s soulful without sounding heavy handed. “It Ain’t No Fun to Me” is probably what bumped this from a 3 to a 4 for me. The horns on that one are incredible, and the guitar playing is slick as hell. The final track was the point where the album really won me over. Favorite song "It Ain't No Fun to Me"

This guy (until he found God) and Marvin Gaye (who never quite did) were two of the main go-to’s for romantic balladry (= hose tunes) in the 70’s. This album was the start of a long winning streak of hit albums for Green. All the elements that make him so good can be heard here: his supple tenor/falsetto, great horn (and to a lesser extent, string) charts, and as always, the crack Hi Studios rhythm section. Well done.

Sooo this is Soul I like the simple but effective grooves, the sax and piano tunes, and most importantly the vocal. I've definitely heard of "Let's Stay Together" somewhere before without knowing the whole album. There're some other nice songs as well; it's just that after some point they kinda sound the same to me.

Really good album. This band lays down such a great beat. Love this album, so much groove, which was fantastic!!!

Great album and artist. Been listening to this album since I was in high school.

Classic R&B that doesn’t overstay its welcome. I’m not. Big R&B guy and this album doesn’t change that, but if I’m going to listen to any, let it be someone like Al Green.

A classic soul album.

Very Smooth, Nice drum pattern

hell yeah. smooth, nice, great voice. i only knew the most famous song, but the rest of the album is pretty great as well. will definitely listen to this again

Amazing voice and one of my all time fav songs on the album. What’s not to love.

Al Green is a legendary Soul Singer and this album was his breakout into the mainstream. Right away you have the iconic "Let's Stay Together", an "oh that song" moment for me, it's subtly groovy and infectious with his smooth vocal chops and the lush instrumentation really pulling you in. The rest of the record follows suit with some really nice Southern Soul adorning this thing, as well as a great cover of a Bee Gee's tune with "How Can You Mean a Broken Heart". Now, a certain darkness casts a pallor shade over this record for me, as beforehand going into this I had learned that this charming young man on the front cover was really no different from this lineup of men: Chris Brown, Prince, Ike Turner, yeah.. I've come to learn the "Reverend Al Green" is a creep who preys on vulnerable young women and who has had a history of domestic abuse and scandals, covering it up with a persona that to most people wouldn't cause them to think any other way about him. This is important to me because a song like "Let's Stay Together" in a vacuum is a sweet love song with a tender message, but coming from this man kind of twists it a little for me and is hard to take seriously. As is the case with those other artists previously mentioned, this does affect my overall enjoyment of the record. So while I do think the music within is gorgeous, I do sometimes have trouble separating the art and the artist in this case.

Classic from my childhood

Smooth.

Quite calming

Freakin awesome

Love it

Classic

Yes and no

Classic, warm with a familiar sense of intimacy

woooow this was really tuff i fw it. W first album. 8.7-9.0/10. I liked most of the songs but there 2 songs i wouldnt replay much, but they were still really solid and chilld tracks so i wouldnt skip it if it played on my speakers.

Smooth as honey. Lovely.

Super groovy, although for my money I would always just go with the classic best of Al Green.

amazing vocals and instrumentals, just wished that all the tracks weren't about love, but still a great album. Favorite Songs: Let's Stay Together, So You're Leaving, What Is This Feeling, Old Time Lovin', I've Never Found a Girl, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart, It Ain't No Fun to Me

Good soul Hyped from the first to the last song

What a lovely album. Not a bad track here.

Top heavy album. The star power songs deserve their praise, but those 2 songs really carry this album. A good few awesome moments otherwise, and none of these songs are bad, but there certainly is a disparity in quality. It's a low 4, but I think it deserves the fourth star 3.6/5

Lovely

Smooth all the way through

Loved this. Great voice but a better band.

Al Green is awesome. Love his music. This album is representative of his best, but a lot of these old school guys have greatest hits albums that are much better

weird aber nice

Vibey as heck

I think this album is really a 3.5, but I'll give it a 4 since I may listen to it again. Al green's got a good voice and the instrumentals are solid. However, I do find that male soul singers usually aren't as pleasing to me than females. That is nothing against Al Green and is entirely subjective, but it does influence my ranking of this album.

uplifting record, super good songs

One of the greatest voices of all time!

Listened to before? No Context? His breakthrough album, with the opener/title track being a smash hit. *Reviewed in a holistic format* Opening an album with the best song always seems like a bad move. And the opener here was the best song by far. The way he sings in “Let’s Stay Together” has an addicting quality to it, and the instrumentals are beautiful. Of course, just because the first song is the best doesn’t mean the rest are bad. Immediately afterwards, you get “La-La For You”, which has some fantastic guitar. In fact, the guitar was probably my favorite part of this whole album. Which, googling it…the guitarist was Drake’s uncle? Too bad his talent didn't get passed down the family tree… My thoughts on this album are pretty simple: it’s a good soul pop record. Not great, not bad, not average—good. Excellent instrumentals with amazing vocals (though the vocal style is not my cup of tea). It was even fairly revolutionary for the softness of which he sang and presented himself lyrically. Even the album’s political leanings are presented in a very personal manner in the title track, which at surface level reads as being about a relationship. There aren’t many highlights outside of the first two songs, except for maybe “Old Time Lovin”. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There isn’t a whole lot of sonic diversity, but that’s okay, because it’s meant to be chill: something to slow dance to or put on while reading a book in your living room. There’s more emotion to it if you’re a huge fan, of course, but unless you dissect the lyrics or are the type to feel the brass section in your bones, it’s a good radio song. And I mean all that as a compliment. Maybe not a huge compliment, but as a compliment.

This guy is smooth

Favorites: Judy, How can you mend a broken heart?

so smooth and groovy

So well put together

Swaggy asf

From the first horn blast of the first track, this album is a ripper. This definitely makes the cut for dinner party jams.

Velvety, feel good grooves

Me gusto mucho, no conocia ningun tema pero muy buenos

Just good listenin.

Just a solid soul album. Al Green's voice is smooth and the music is well crafted to add to the vibe.

The definitive work by the ‘reverend’ with one of the great soul classics as a title track. A smooth laid back album with a consistency of approach and a showcase for a unique voice. The cover of the Bee Gees song is another high point. A pleasing satisfying listen.

How Can You Mend a Broken Heart es el tema que mas me gustó. Muy bueno, relajante.

Muy buen álbum, muy buena vibra y me interesa bastante el soul

Un disco muy clásico, cargado de sonidos suaves, muy bueno

Classic soulful album. Really enjoyed.

Solid!

this was actually really good despite my feelings about soul. just cute

Loved it, musically interesting, good slow jams

I'm into Reverend Al Green. I like bedroom soul/R&B and this is very of its time, as well. There are not enough bangers beyond Let's Stay Together to climb the mountain, but I really like the ride.

I didn't realize I liked Al Green so much. Smooth, yes, as he famously is, but there was also a lot of fun variety.

Muy bueno, gran album de soul y R&B, toco bancar como corresponde

ya había escuchado algunas, me gustó

strings: beautiful voice: amazing groovy, soulful, feels like summertime Fave: what is this feeling

Just wonderful. How Can You Mend a Broken Heart is just one of the many soulful bangers on here.

listened on 5th feb 😘

I could listen to this style of music all day. Al Green has got quite a voice and this was an enjoyable album. An ex boyfriend mouthed Let’s Stay Together to me from across the room at a party a long time ago so that song is pretty special 😂 and How Can You Mend A Broken Heart is incredible. Am I a weirdo for preferring The Bee Gees version of that song though? It definitely was a pleasant listen the whole way through.

Both vocally and instrumentally, this is a really intimate album. The vocals are beautiful, sung with a lot of passion and feeling. You can hear his influence in later works, such as 'Off The Wall' - I feel that a couple of the tracks have a similar feel. It goes to show how influential Al Green was as an artist at that time. His influence even shows today, with modern/up-and-coming artists making music that feels shaped by this, such as Olivia Dean. The percussion in 'What Is This Feeling' particularly works well, utilising triplets to carry the track forward. The backing vocals are also too prominent not to mention - I really love the use of them in 'Old Time Lovin''. I really feel they add to the groove as a whole, the same in 'I've Never Found a Girl'. Favourites: So You're Leaving Let's Stay Together What Is This Feeling

Ça groove, c’est cool. Un peu trop calme par moment quand même

Just a great soul album that I enjoyed while sitting on the beach.

A great album. I’ve never heard anything about this guy, but he is a great singer and song writter. I’m gonna listen more of him.

The Reverend Al Green! This was a pleasure to listen to. Green's voice is so versatile.

Two all-timers in one tracklist. I’ve loved the title track for years, and I’m glad this gave me reason to listen to the whole thing. I love the combination of the smooth, soulful instrumentals with Al’s restrained but wonderful vocals. With so few weak or wasted moments here for me, this pushed five stars, but I just didn’t fully fall in love with enough of the other tracks. 2 listens Favorite track: The Title Track

Expectation: -> Hopeful. Al has inspired some of my preferred modern music. That's Al, not AI. After listening: -> Ooooh so cool, so smooth. Love me some Al Green. Track ranking: Together Never Found La-La Mend Leaving Feeling Judy Old Ain't

No es mi estilo musical pero me gusto

Love this. Its groovy, sexy and vibey. Vocals are good, bass lines are progressive and moving. Guitars keep thing grounded. I had a blast with this one, its fun hearing the source of music that is often sampled in hip hop.

Notable songs: - Let's Stay Together - How Can You Mend a Broken Heart - It Ain’t No Fun to Me

would be like a 4.5, such a great soul album, al green one of the best

Adoreeeei o álbum todo! Se tiver que recomendar, acho que seria #5 e #7.

I think this was a very enjoyable listen. The instruments and Al Green's voice come together like they're all one big family. A huge highlight of this album were the vocal harmonies of the various people on this album. I do think some songs sounded a little bit the same.

There was a time when I was listening to a lot of classic soul. Should be more familiar with this one by now.

I hadn't heard any of Al Green's music before this but I'm glad I have now. It's a lovely listen.

260/1001 Al Green - Let's Stay Together Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ✅ Heard a few tracks by Al Green, but never delved deeper into his work. He's got an incredible voice and the production is wonderful.

This feels like one of those old-school records where the opening title track is the main event and everything else is filler. As iconic as the title track is, everything after the first track is still delightful listening due to Green's soulful crooning and the immaculate production. It feels like Green is carrying the touch that Otis Redding left behind. I enjoyed Green's take on the Bee Gees 'How Can You Mend A Broken Heart'. This is soul music with a gospel twist. Green will steal your girl and praise the lord above in one swoop. I'm in no way religious, but I can still enjoy this style of music as long as it is not overly preachy, which Green rarely is on this album. Classic soul always makes for easy listening and this was no different.

Very mellow and nice. Started strong with the near-perfect Pulp Fiction cover. If it would have kept that pace a 5 for sure, but the rest pulled back a bit. Great listen.

Some insanely chill R&B. Sounds are really good, more accurate to my taste. The type of album to just vibe with!!!!! 3.5/5

A soul master. Apparently can't do the same thing twice, Saw him opening the concert for John in Liverpool 1`990. He did Come Together. This is standard fare but doesn't include my favourite Tired Of being Alone.

It's good. Let's Stay Together and How Do You Mend a Broken Heart are incredible, but the rest of this album did kind of pass me by and wash over me a bit

Yes Al let’s .. immediate repeat listening required

Al was a great talent and this particular album features what was perhaps his best song. This is a very nice listen.

Smooth soul to start the day. 4/5

Good Sunday music. Smooth and easy.

I saw Al Green perform at Bonnaroo of all places. He was 60 some years old, and one of the best performers of the weekend. The dude absolutely brought it. This album is a gem from start to finish. I have to give it four instead of five because it's a bit homogeneous in terms of sound (it's barely over half an hour), but I appreciate how much it packs in in such a short amount of time. It gets to the point and doesn't waver. Great album to make love to, but I'm probably not going to listen to it time and again.

So relaxing, the music and vocals are flawless.

soul goat

Oooh its an absolute banger of an album.

FUCK that is BRILLIANT. that is INSPIRED

I wonder if there's an album from the early 70's that I don't like. I mean I'm amazed at how much great music was being made at once. There must have been a perfect storm enabling artists to create without having to be corny like the 80's or grungy like the 90's. Anyways... This album is super listenable, executed very well, and only really lacking in breadth or ambition P. S. I can really hear the influence Green had on Darondo, a more recent singer

"Let's Stay Together" has become Al Green's signature song, and a staple of wedding band setlists everywhere, for good reason. not only is it romantic and tender and all that, but the construction of the song itself is immaculate, especially the move to the ♭VI chord paired with Green's sudden leap into his falsetto on the lyric "is all I neeeeed." in general, all nine tracks from Green's album of the same name hit on a tenderness that's irresistible. his singing voice is, of course, unpredictable in all the best ways, but so is his songwriting; he's credited as writer or co-writer on seven cuts here, all of which are full of those tiny vocal and compositional surprises! the engineering and mix has a pretty ramshackle quality about it, like the album was cut and produced on the cheap, but it creates a certain aura around these songs that's unmistakable. even the string arrangements, which often sound squeaky-clean on other soul records, feel akin to a gnarly, slightly de-tuned horn section. light 8/10.

Aaaah i love this album, sounds like a classic for sure I would rate it 4.5 if it was possible

Smúð

This album feels like good walk on sunny day, love it

Overall: 8/10 Oh my god, that voice.....like hot butter and maple syrup over the fluffiest pancakes you've ever had. I think I'm in love. The best songs on this are absolute masterpieces of soul music. I certainly didn't love everything here but man, it was all so catchy and beautiful. I can see this growing on me as I get older. Fav Song: Let's Stay Together

How to mend a broken heart is gorgeous

The smooth soulful sounds of Al Green will cure what ails you

This one's a good'un. Some excellent grooves. Fav tracks: Let's Stay Together, What Is This Feeling, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart

Très bonne ambiance, même le daron a validé 😉

Good soul / funky album. Not too long, doesn't overstay its welcome. If you're into this kind of music, definitely try this one. 7.5 / 10

Fantastic soul album, a few really memorable tracks. More of something to put on in the background for me personally but a great vibe all around.

Title track and the Bee Gees cover are insanely good. Didn't hit those heights elsewhere, but a very smooth enjoyable listen.

Ok. Let’s.

Let’s Stay Together is such a classic. Fun album, very chill with good vibes and smooth bass lines.

A smooth, soulful 35 minutes. So nice I listened twice. I definitely want to keep this album on hand for relaxing evenings indoors. Really nice vibe. Thank you, Mr. Green

basically absolute peak

Excellent album. Green really gets to show off his vocal range here, with a whole brass section backing him up to really drive home that soulful feeling. Lots of emotion put into what are admittedly simple lyrics.

Transported to the early 70s. Funk and soul in abundance. Needs Starsky and Hutch to fully appreciate.

fucking love al green, amazing voice and awesome record would def listen again and recommend

this album is an easy one to recommend if someone asks for some soul or just to fill the void in the room with some good vibes.

Lekker albumpie - ruime 4 sterren

Echt een heel lekker album. Over de muziek valt niet veel meer te zeggen dan positieve dingen. Maar Al Green is wel een wifebeater

Always say yes to the Reverend, or Amen as the situation may be

A voice like butter, with an iconic sound. Good one here.

Let's stay together 5/5 La La for You 4/5 So you're Leaving 2/5 What is this Feeling 5/5 Old Time Lovin 2/5 I've Never Found a Girl 3/5 How Can You Mend a Broken Heart 4/5 (Because I love the original version too much) Judy 3/5 It Ain't No Fun To Me 4/5 I was 13 when this album was released and I was unfortunately not aware of Al Green at the time. Enjoyed this record.

Good, just not my type of songs at the moment. But definitely worth a listen.

Very groovy

Un álbum muy conmovedor y bonito, me gustó, en especial How can you mend a broken heart

A rare album on this list where the rest of the album stands up after the big hit! Just great overall.

Gorgeous album that you can hear was so influential. Wish it was a bit longer and maybe had some denser tracks but a real classic

Me gustó, de la onda de Janis Joplin y Amy

All green

Smooooth, baby. Green has a wonderfully emotive voice. This is one sexy album. A classic for good reason. It is hard for me to see how anyone could hate this music, there is too much joy to ignore to get to a hateful place. That said, I'm sure some of you miscreants will find a way. ;)

Excellent album. Groovy.

Chill. I like it 👍

Pretty good and jazzy

8/10. def listen to more 70s music.

Great stuff - the title track is a classic, but all 9 tracks are a fun listen. Soulful, fun, enjoyable. Doesnt quite hit the heights of a 5 - let's say a very high 4.

Started at Mühlestieg on a cloudy day. Supposed to rain later

Bomb ass opening track, track of all time. So minimal and so full. Track 2-4 I'm eh on. I'm sure it was absolute heat at the time, but it's been kinda sterilized and stripped of it's flavour thanks to gentrified acts like Thee Sinnseers, who blare out of "locally owned cafes" that are in fact franchised, much like the band itself. The album cover mgiht be one of my favs though, the jacket is killer, what the fuck is this slime typography they spelled out his name for. It looks like he wrote the Ghostbusters theme or something, but no, he's just pumping out these vulnerable and honest soul ballads. I'm a big fan, i think it might be my fav so far. Yeah i like this album. Slows down from tracks 2-4, so i'm hesitant to call it a no-skipper, but DANG the second half is GOOD. Like really good. Last track mid tho

Never surpasses the title track; but so does 99% of all things on this planet.

Great album. Smooth the entire way, a great way to wind down.

7 - GOOD

Favorite songs: Let's Stay Together, So You're Leaving, I've Never Found a Girl, How Can You Mend a Broken Heart

It was really decent, a lot of flavour would recommend

lets stay together - cute if only that snare isnt booming cool harmonies it aint no fun to me - pretty fun to me

I very much liked the Beegees cover and enjoyed his light, vibey soul.

What a treat this was. I was familiar with the title track already, but every song on here is a good listen. Green's voice sounds like the epitome of soul, and the music fits perfect with it. Everything came together for a really pleasant experience. The only real negative I have is that there wasn't too much diversity in the feel of the tracks. They all kinda followed the same mold. It was a good mold, but it did feel a little same-y after a while. I was craving something a little more peppy toward the end. Other than that, I take a little bit off since not all of the songs were his own originals. Even so, this was a really good album. I'd listen to it again. Overall: 4.2/5

delightful. a fun short album. really enjoyed this :)

Hip hop samples could definitely be heard here. Vocals slap as always

Energetic fun, doesn't overstay its welcome. Would listen to again.

Classic

Made no comments alas but I liked this so much!!!!!!

i love his sound nice, short album, easy to listen to what is this feeling and i’ve never found a girl standouts for me

So easy to listen to and love. Green’s vocals just sound effortless, and the songs have so much feeling. Must-listen #294.

It was a fun album to listen to on the whole. I thought his cover of "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" dragged on a little long. Best songs, "Judy" and "I Never Found A Girl", plus his most popular song at the time, "Let's Stay Together".

I like it

This record is like a warm shower. I love classic r&b. As usual, do not care for the slower ballads, but all around a good record.

Short and sweet. The brass and backing vocals are of another time but also feel evergreen. Al could get it!

Al Green is an absolute master of the soul genre. I don't quite think this album -- with its restrained range -- is up there with his best, but it's still a pleasure to listen to.

Great R&B singer from the 70’s. Great voice, and music. One of the top vocalists of the 70’s.

Relisten

love this album and have already listened a lot haha

Good stuff. Lots of emotion, at times feels loose rough around the edges. I prefer stuff like this to the more polished soul. Favorite track: "It Ain't No Fun To Me"

Really impeccable vibes. Smooth, enjoyable. Let's Stay Together (the song) is such a classic.

Album No. 0142 on my list. I had never heard of Al Green before, so "Let's Stay Together" was completely new to me. Which is a shame, because I would have wanted to get to know it much earlier! I think this is the best soul album that I've encountered on the 1001 album list so far. It's better than all soul/soul-adjacent albums that I've heard so far, and that includes Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". I have to admit that I know very little about the genre in general, but to me this album has everything one would want from a soul album: the groove, the catchiness, the coolness, the sexy vibes. Most of the songs did not really get stuck in my head, but the overall thing is pretty good still and something I imagine playing at a house party, but like the cool, stylish, classy-but-not-boring kind. I will add "Let's Stay Together", "So You're Leaving", and "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" to my playlist. Good stuff, will certainly listen again! 4/5 stars!

I liked it. But I couldn’t fully distinguish when one song ended and another one started. Although I was also doing work while listening.

To my shame, this genre isn't something that I would purposefully put on, but I would never turn it off. Mr. Green is easily one of the top 5 American singers of all time, and this album contains his magnum opus. I just can't give it that 5th star as after Let's Stay Together, everything else pales. Influence 4. Hits 4. Quality 5. Intangibles 5. I was singing it to my wife for three days after I listened to it 4.

More old school soul. No denying the talent of Al Green.

It was ok. solid 7/10

a lot of the album isn't lovemaking music but like "gently sway in the kitchen with your ex-wife of 20 years" music which is nice. the rest of it is just some solidly funky good stuff. the title track is too iconic to treat fairly, otherwise my favorite is It Ain't No Fun to Me

Classy, melodic, and soulful. A great Soul album. Great for sipping a cocktail late at night.

As someone who only known a lot of R&B soul singers through Gorillaz hearing a full R&B album is a great experience and makes me want to give some of those collaborators a shot because they are on some of my favourite songs of all time this album made me feel so good from start to finish lovely listen would highly recommend

Baby making sexy slow soul music. Only getting a 4 instead of a 5 because it’s not an album I’ll find myself constantly going back to.

Some very chilled, groovy soul. Hell yeah. This guy’s voice is a tonic to the soul. Loved a lot of the songs - some are a bit samey towards the end and do the classic fade out every time but not much to criticise. Solid 8.5/10

This was pretty groovy. Really dug the hits like the title track and mend a broken heart. I’m hanging onto this one.

Maybe Excel didn't quite complement this album in the way it should

Such a smooth and soulful album

Smoother than a freshly plastered wall

Al Green has such a great voice. The band is tight too, I like all the shots that brass instruments do. This is perfect cafe/restaurant music - easy listening, good vibe, consistent. The mixing is cool with the panning and vocal layers, I like it 3.5

Hell yeah. I hope it lets me review this one when I get back from my trip cause Al Green slaps. This was a full album of bangers. Literally, want to pop this record in and just

i actually love this album. he mostly talks about his feelings yk about love i do enjoy listening to it

Don’t really listen to this genre of music, but still pretty chill and beautiful

This is an amazing album. Al’s voice is so luscious and rich and it sounds so good. The instrumentation is amazing and had me grooving and vibing on my walk while listening to this album. I loved most of the songs on this album but there was1 or 2 at the end that i was meh about. Great album and definitely deserves a spot on the list

A lot of fun. Would buy. Listened with headphones and loved the production on some of the horn parts. Soul music is becoming a new favorite genre!

обкладинка альбому описує мої емоції при прослуховуванні

Soul isn’t my go-to genre, but this is a classic. Funky, groovy, soulful. Enjoyable from start to finish. Highlights: Let's Stay Together and How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. 4⭐️

Kicks off with a hit from Pulp Fiction and keeps its energy throughout.

Overall, this is a really nice album—smooth and soulful, with just a pinch of funk dropped in occasionally. An easy, enjoyable listen I’d definitely come back to.

ME ENCANTOOO, en especial la de How can you mend a broken heart, la había escuchado antes pero ahora le preste mucha más atención y AMOOOO Top 3: - How can you mend a broken heart - Let’s stay together - Old time lovin'

4.5 stars Love the sound and feel of this album. It's quintessential soul. Al's voice sounds heavenly. REALLY wanted to give this a 5 star review, but the only knock I have against it is it doesn't have that 2nd or 3rd really big hit. perhaps unfair, but... Favorite track: It Ain't No Fun To Me

The general vibe of this album is excellent and it’s very enjoyable to listen to. The production is lush and Al Green’s voice feels expensive. Where it falls slightly flat for me is that there isn’t much variation across the album, and the best two songs are the two you’ve most likely heard going into it, the title track and the excellent Bee Gees cover “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart”.

How can you mend a broken heart pakken me absoluut! Het laatste nummer, It aint no fun to me, is heerlijk funky en Al pakt daar 1000% je aandacht op. Top nummer om mee te eindigen, toch zeker een boven gemiddeld goed album, gewoon 4 sterren. FAVO: Let's stay together, Ive never found a girl, How can you mend a broken heart

A great easy listening album
