fun, stayed in the head
the deluxe version is too much. the original was perfect
Pretty good, easy to listen to! Will probably come back to.
Great album, wonderful lyrics and musicianship. This could well have the best opening and closing tracks on any album.
didn't deep listen but enjoyed myself for sure and will definitely come back to it
Standouts Baba O'Riley Bargain Love Ain't For Keeping Behind Blue Eyes Won't Get Fooled Again
Solid
This might be my favorite album by The Who. That said, I still think it's worse than many of its contemporaries. Baba O'Riley does slap though.
a classic. “Behind Blue Eyes” is an absolutely unserious song tbh
okay yeah it’s great but like why did pete townshend do that thing fifteen years ago. weird as fuck
1. Baba O'Riley - 10/10. Amazing intro and classic track, 5 minutes of adventure. 2. Bargain - 9.5/10. Really enjoyed this song, reminded me of late stage capitalism. 3. Love Ain't For Keeping - 6.5/10. A little too short, but the magical forest / goblin vibes were amazing. 4. My Wife - 6/10. Borat but I wasn't feeling it that much. 5. The Song Is Over - 8.5/10. Very melancholic, and is a 6 minute ballad. 6. Getting In Tune - 7/10. Makes a man want things, I like the piano. 7. Going Mobile - 10/10 - Gives me the same feeling I get when I hear Ocean Man. The roadtrip / hippie sound is absolutely working. 8. Behind Blue Eyes - 10/10. Makes me want to sing at a concert for every second I listen to it. Extra points because of Limp Bizkit cover. 9. Won't Get Fooled Again - 10/10. You can sacrifice lambs to those synths and drum work. Holy ball knowledge. Overall : 8.5/10. I really want to give the album a 9 but the middle section was a little too lacking. Amazing start and finish tho. The Who get more respect in my book. Cover : 10/10. Future I was promised.
classic. rock. standard. new grounds.
One of those albums where you recognize every track you hear. This plays like The Who’s greatest hits. Loved it, and I’m not a big Who fan.
A pretty quintessential classic rock albums; loaded with a bunch of classic songs that are certainly must-hears.
Love The Who in small doses, but their songs are so long.
This album is like being the prom king quarterback of the high school football team. Everything is great on the surface. Your team is 14-0 on the season, and you're on track for the state championship. You're dating Kimberly, the hottest girl on the cheerleading team. You own a drop top Chevy and you are the guy that everyone wants to be friends with. But then you get home from school, and are faced with the reality that your parents are in a loveless marriage. You call Kimberly, but she makes it pretty clear that she doesn't want to talk right now. All of a sudden you realise that she is only dating you for the status at school. You wonder if your friends hang out with you for the same reason. These are meant to be the best days of your life, but you are now seeing that as a bad thing. You feel hollow inside, and you know it is only going downhill from here.
Icónico (nunca lo había escuchado)
The CSI band made an album? Good for them! I went through a bit of a Who phase when I was younger (well, I liked Tommy), and three of the tracks here are some of their best known songs. A decent album overall. Favourite track: Getting in tune
Ooo baba o'riley and behind blue eyes? Excited for this. I'm not ashamed to say I learned about behind blue eyes because of the limp bizkit version. Not every track is a banger, but very strong album, 4* Highlights: baba o'riley, behind blue eyes
Desconocido grupo para mi, pero muy bueno
I just recently bought a pair of those cowboy-like boots that used to be so in fashion in the 70's and a few days later I got this recommendation... I call it destiny. (I know they're British but I'm talking about vibes here)
Good album.
rock album classic, a bit dry in the middle, but enjoyable all the way through Standout: behind blue eyes, baba
I have no real interest in the concept of a rock opera in itself, though I do appreciate a concept album, if we can allow them to be related. I don't rank The Who among my favorite bands, but I realized listening to this that I also rarely turn them off when they come on the radio, and that they've been a larger part of my inner soundscape than I give them credit for. This album is really strong and ambitious and showcases a band willing to explore the contours of rock itself, i.e., without adding other elements or veering into other genres like so many groups do. I don't*love* it or feel like it changes my life, but I'm also glad it's in my life.
This is probably my favorite album by The Who so far. Exquisite
Really great first track, some other gems in there too
Bangers, bangers and some more (more rather mid) bangers. The first and last songs are by far the best, the songs in the middle are ok, too. Not 5-star-level-good, but not 3-stars-mid either.
How good, Keith Moon is so fun
I bet in their late 60s / early 70s heyday, The Who were a force to be reckoned with - Moon and Entwistle were an absolute powerhouse and it's a shame to see Daltrey and Townshend withering on the vine without them. This record's a belter though, and played loud, it still has its clout. 'Behind Blue Eyes' and 'Won't Get Fooled Again' are the obvious ones to call out but they really are great songs. Actually, the whole record, hangs together brilliantly - the only problem I have is whenever I start to lose myself in listening to The Who, I remember Roger Daltrey's aggressively ignorant and selfish stance on Brexit and I have to switch them off.
There are some obvious classics on here, but a 9 track album should not have any filler. Definitely two or three tracks on here, where if played live, would be time for a bathroom break.
I got to see them live in 2016 and they still got it.
I'm a big Quadrophenia guy, but this sits nicely in the Who's discography as a moment of them just being a rock band in between the two big Rock Operas they did.
It was amazing, I am not such a big fan of rock and roll but i like some tracks of the spotify list!! ;)
I didn’t have high hopes but it was good
One of my dad’s favourite albums which, I mean yeah, it’s a dad album.
Me gustó mucho Going Mobile y las canciones con el sonido eléctrico que no sé bien cómo describir
Enjoyed a few of them, but also its clear why baba orielly was the standout. The others really blend.
I have who albums but always thought them overrated…. Went to see them for the first time in 2023 at a half full stadium in St Helens, with a downpour throughout…. They were great! I now hear their albums differently. 1. Baba O' Riley 2. Behind Blue Eyes 3. Won't Get Fooled Again
Muito bom.
The Who isn't my favorite band, but I do like a lot of their songs. It's hard not to call this a great album. I've heard over half this album just listening to local radio. Baba O'Riley, Bargain, and Won't Get Fooled Again are amongst my favorite Who tracks.
Classic album, starting with Baba O'Riley and ending with Won't Get Fooled Again. Come on. And the songs seem ahead of their time. This one is just slightly below the "all time great album" level for me, 4.75 stars. But you could probably convince me that it's a 5.
This is like going on world vacation - for a year. Epic. There are so many unique cities and each have their own tasty cuisines, rich culture, and eloquent language. One after another, you feel like you are traveling to other planets, which is equally overwhelming and inspiring. Wow.
Much better than I thought. Really like the song "Behind Blue Eyes".
Highlights: Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again Lowlights: -------------------------- One of the greatest opened and closed albums I've heard. Everything was great, but outside of the hits it was all a bit too samey to be perfect.
It’s really good music. It’s not what I like to listen to. But it’s undeniably good.
Now this The Who I was promised, really exciting and upbeat rock. Great start and finish but waned in the middle.
Fantastic album. The influence on later bands is there to be heard.
All-time classic. Baba O'Riley remains my favorite track from it, it's just so iconic. Getting In Tune, Bargain, & Won't Get Fooled Again are standouts as well.
Baba O ´Riley ❤️
Who's Next was very enjoyable, despite not really being all that groundbreaking (in my opinion.) It's simply just a really solid classic rock album. That being said, it obviously spawned the immensely famous "Baba O'Reiley", that has been sampled to death and used in countless commercials, but for good reason. "Behind Blue Eyes" ended up being my favorite off of the album, I love its dramatic tone and the style they played the guitar in throughout the song. Favorite Song: "Behind Blue Eyes"
4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/the-who/whos-next/ Long line of 4/5 star albums and this one is no different. Never really listened to The Who aside their hits (of which this album has at least two), but I like this album quite a lot! Looking forward to the next Who albums.
Love their melodies. Fun classic rock.
Peak classic rock with pure bangers that hold up today.
My rating 4.2. Really an amazing album. Not a bad song and different throughout. Incredible to me this came out in the early 70s with its use of synthesizer and guitar.
There are some true classics on here both for the Who's discography and in the world of rock in general. Killer beginning and ending. I enjoyed it from front to back. 4.5/5
The album with "Baba O'Reilly", "Behind Blue Eyes", and "Won't Get Fooled Again"" has long instrumentals but this is another epitome of what I think when I imagine "classic rock".
Listens: 3 Standout Tracks: Baba O'Riley, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again I suppose The Who's 'Who's Next' is the album I am most familiar with insofar as I recognize three or four of the songs, with Baba O'Riley being instantly recognizable song for its famous intro and people's habit of calling the song Teenage Wasteland. I am also pretty sure Won't Get Fooled Again is used in some capacity in one of the CSI TV shows. This is a good album. It's good album length. Memorable, distinct songs, excellent singing and instrumentation. An the album cover feels legendary. A very 2001: A Space Odyssey aesthetic.
Gute Unterhaltung.
Meet the new boss! Same as the old boss! Intro och outro är ju 5/5 och mycket däremellan är rätt fett också. Gillar Getting in Tune, Going Mobile och Behind Blue Eyes (som jag länge trodde var Limp Bizkit original haha). Rock!
70’s Rock ⭐️Won’t Get Fooled Again
Swag ass album 8/10 classic rock asf
Very Ca-chi
Solid stuff.
I've been up for three days listening to Baba O'Riley nonstop. In unrelated news, I tried Starbucks coffee the other day.
The first thing I want to say is that it's a cool album and the cover is just as cool. I was actually very surprised when I found out that the original song "Behind Blue Eyes" belongs to this group, lol but it's still cool. Here's my favourites from this album: love ain't for keeping (SUCH A COOL GUITAR, maybe it's my the most fav track from this album), Bargain, My wife (cool vocals), and the song is over
Goeie classic, met vele hitjes. Lang nier geluisterd.
The Who are not my thing, but I do appreciate them not making this another rock opera. Overall it’s solid. Baba O’Riley is a classic and there was some good stuff in the back half.
baba o’riley fells like such a distant memory. great album
It’s a classic, classic rock album. Is it the most classic? I don’t know, but it’s got to be considered in the discussion of the most classic, classic rock albums of all time. So classic.
Du bon rock d’homme blanc des années 70. Rien à dire de plus
Son intéressant
Might be the greatest opening track of all time.
A really good album with a surprising amount of filler. You've almost certainly heard the high points of this album, and they are incredible. But there's not much else in between the iconic songs to make this album more well-rounded. Starts strong and ends strong, but the middle is lacking. Top tracks: Baba O'Riley, Bargain, Won't Get Fooled Again
Didn’t realize how many of The Who’s hits came from this album. Overall a good album! Daltrey does love to yell though lol. The album being bookended by Baba and Won’t Get Fooled is such a great composition.
😃
Nice Bluesy sound, excellent drumming and good guitar riffs mixed with the catchy vocal inflections lead this to be an enjoyable listen. Favourite : Won't Get Fooled Again
I can’t believe I’m admitting that I have never listened to a Who album before. I can blame my parents? I’m 100% on board. This album is epic!
I've never listened to this album start-to-finish, but am well-aware of the hits from this one. This is a solid collection of songs by The Who. The tracks that are lesser-known than the singles are also pretty good.
Great stuff. Even if the rest of the album sucked Baba O’Reilly is enough to pull it over the line.
This is what I am expecting when The Who is mentioned. Modern sounding rock music, surpassing it's age in many ways. Amazing how many hit songs with longevity this album has! I very much enjoyed this album, after the "Sold Out" one it makes a huge difference.
loves it!!
3.5 rounded up, very fun
8/10
4.4
8.8/10 Don’t have too many notes here, Great album, essential listen.
Great opening
Who’s next? Who’s next! The who? The Who! Won’t Get Fooled Again Baba O’Riley
Nice substitute was Only song I knew So good to know this album haha My fav: baba o’Riley Bargain The song is over Behind blue eyes Won’t get fooled again Naked eye I don’t even know myself
I'm torn by this album. Won't get fooled again is incredible. Everything in it is amazing. It has the greatest rock scream of all time. Baba O'Reilly is good, but always felt like a weaker version of won't get fooled to me. Listening to this bargain is eerily reminiscent in guitar part and other bits too. I guess that works in a musical scenario where these songs came from before it was changed. Musical call backs are a big part of that, but since this isn't one it just feels a bit samey. Other songs on here are quite good, behind blue eyes is pretty great. Overall it reminds me a lot of Barkley James harvest and the album I know best from them (everyone is everybody else) just seems to flow better and feels more thought out. I think this is an album I want to like more than I do.
from what i listened to i didn’t finish enjoy it but there were to many songs so i had do dnf sadly! i will probably listen to it again when i have more time
Loved this whole album! It’s 55 years old this year but the style feels pretty timeless, great music!
I own this album on vinyl and pulled it out for a fresh listen. Disclaimer, my father is the world's biggest who fan so I grew up listening to the who on repeat and I'm biased towards liking the group. I've always been conflicted on how to feel about the who. Part of me feels they are a vanilla 60s-70s rock group who relies on gimmicks such as creating their own "rock operas", not too far from a band like Rush. However, another part of me has always enjoyed their stuff as music that "rocks" - I look for music that is loud and which I don't have to think much about, a la foo fighters. Having been a few years since I last listened to Who's next, I went into listening to this album thinking I would feel the latter: it's classic Rock that's fairly unassuming. However, from the opening instruments on baba o riley to the final guitar chords on won't get fooled again, I was reminded why the who is more than just plain classic rock - every track has its own unique layer of instruments, commanded by Keith moons overarching drum beats. I come to understand as well how they were so popular in the 60s and 70s, as their mix of various keyboards, synths, and guitar effects throughout each song must have been truly revolutionary considering music at the time. As I listened to the main singles (baba o riley, behind blue eyes, won't get fooled again), I was reminded why the who is still fairly well known today - their music has staying power and has remained culturally relevant even 50+ years later. If you played any of these tracks to the average person, I guarantee they would at least recognize the music; it's used in popular media today, whether in various car commercials, or as the opening theme to CSI miami, or by the famous blue man group live cover performance. Above all, the who made catchy, enjoyable music that is rhythmically sound. This listen brought me something that I hadn't thought about in prior listens: the overall message/theme of the album of the cycle of young people starting a political/social revolution, only to see once they've become old that the change they brought forth was similar to what they originally fought against, and is now being uprooted by the next generation. This contributes to the album's staying power as being so well known, as it is as relevant today as it was 50+ years ago. As I listened to this album, I realized that my like of the who is actually a love of the who. I thoroughly enjoy every part of who's next. To me, the only thing holding this album back from being a perfect 5/5 is the forgettable nature of some of the in-the-middle tracks (my wife, getting in tune), however listening to this tracks still sparks joy and brings me back to the fact that the who has been and always will be a group that rocks
4/5
confusing album versions - hab die 9 von der lp angehört, fetzig, auch wenn ich außer 1. song meme song, behind blue eyes und das "jaaa" in wont get fooled again nichts kannte 4/5
It has some absolutely legendary songs on here, but a couple of good, but not amazing, tracks keep this from hitting 5 stars for me.
When it’s great it’s great. It’s a little one-note throughout, even if that note has its peaks and valleys. I just think The Who is, for me, a four-star band through and through. Many moments of brilliance but surrounded by blander iterations of the same things. I wanted this album to be the 5-star experience, but alas. It’s just like a narrow range of rock expression — albeit performed thrillingly. Still. Good listen. Must-listen #282.
It's got 3 bangers and 6 meh songs, but the bangers are so good and iconic, I can't give this anything less than a 4/5.
Three of my favourite Who tracks on a nine-track album is a pretty good hit rate
Good album, book-ended by classics
(listened to the deluxe reissue) A few outstanding tunes and then a lot of forgettable Who-style tracks. When it's good it's very good though 4.4
🦉🦉🦉🦉
not totally sure why The Who sounds good to me but I enjoy their music.
This has got to be the essential Who album. Very good.
This album is like a "V" in that the beginning and end are incredible but the middle is lackluster. Still, the piano work is brilliant, and several of these songs are legendary classics for a reason.
Pretty fantastic - for so many bangers and CSI themes 🤣 on one album. Behind Blue Eyes is stupendous - the hirs are iconic. Don’t really care about the rest.
De très bon morceaux
The opening song and the closing two songs are rightly lauded. The middle kind of blurred together.
Great classic rock. There's a reason they became icons
Unusual song constructions, quite artsy and adventurous at times. But even more than that, one great song after another, not a single dud.
Always fun to find an album with a bunch of songs that I already know. Didnt know the Who made the "YEAHHHH" song.
Awesome, every song is a classic and so fun to listen to
Classic
Album: good start, teenage wasteland is a classic, kind of died out in the middle with some slow ballads but brought me back in with behind blue eyes and then now won’t be fooled again? Pretty banging/great album.
Classic
7.9/10
Some excellent tunes on this album. Must have been gobsmacking when it first dropped.
Yea obviously
i thought it was really good - another classic. heard a lot of these songs before, but baba o'riley was definitely a favorite. overall like an 8/10
I like it. 5 Jan 2026
The lyrics and vocals are mediocre, but the instrumentals more than make up for them, they tickle my brain Favorite songs: bargain baba o’riley (just for the instrumentals)
baba O'Riley... forever iconic in my heart.
Probably one of the best classic rock albums
"Baba O'Riley" is an intense, energetic, thrill-ride and a kick-ass way to begin an album! It still sounds fresh 50+ years later - that's impressive! "Bargain" has moments of both hard-hitting rock and stripped-down honesty and rawness that make it a great second track.
I was enjoying this album until I realized I had completely stopped listening about halfway through. It starts off super solid, but after Bargain, everything until Going Mobile sounds like worse versions of the songs that came before. None of this mid section is actually that bad, but it definitely lags behind the start and finish. On the musicianship level, there aren’t any glaring flaws or things to point to that make this middle less interesting, but for whatever reason it kind of ends up being a talented band playing boring songs. The musicianship is really consistently good, particularly the rhythm section. Also some really interesting synth/organ work that I feel like predicts some of the sound of 80s rock. The high points are good enough to warrant a high rating, but I feel like it kind of falls apart as an actual album. Also, the lyrics/general vibe of everything carry a kind of Boomer “I got mine” ethos. Standout Tracks: Baba O’Reliy, Bargain, Behind Blue Eyes, Won’t Get Fooled Again
Goated album 9/10 loses a point for being so damn long lol Baba O’Riley and Getting in tune are hits. Can’t really see myself revisiting the whole album
Not a perfect album but monumental in it's own right. Would kill to have dropped the needle on this record in 1971 and hear those first notes of Baby O'Reilly for the first time.
A much better record than I gave it credit on first glance. Other than the obvious killer hits, I loved "The Song is Over" and "Getting In Tune", but then again I'm a sucker for meta-commentary. Does still lack a bit of bite, a problem I find in a lot of pre-punk 70s. Has about 3 moments where you understand why people view it as a transcendent genre defining album, but then has several more where it sounds like The Stones, which is where I lose interest The Borat song is funny
What to do with an album with so many 5-star songs but who has the time to sit through a double-album these days? This is the most 4.5/5 I've felt yet.
Good album, with some amazing Songs! Classic
Kinda U shaped quality wise with the middle being pretty forgettable but man the ends are amazing
Listening to this made me want to jump on a motorbike and ride into the sunset - iconic hooks, heartfelt ballads and energetic rock magic!
Dudes rock
So. When we got My Generation a while back I said I preferred that version of The Who. And then I said “is that true?” and I threw this on. And watched some live videos from the era. And I gotta say I was very incorrect and was won over. Which makes sense because I love big dumb arena rock. If you don’t love the scream on Won’t Get Fooled Again, you’ve probably never experienced joy. The concept behind the album is also wacky af and I appreciate that as well. Rockstars back then came up with insane ideas when they did lots of drugs and now they just post racist shit on Twitter. We used to be a proper society. So then I went to Pops to buy the album and it was like $44 and I said haha no. As there exist other albums for which I would have (and already have) paid $44, I think that means this isn’t a 5 star album. And it also means I think I have to go back and 5 star Parklife because I think that’s roughly what I paid for it.
Listened for another list. Probably the best Who album. It has some real bangers on it. 3.75/5
I've always felt that I should like The Who more than I do. They are clearly from an era of British classic rock that I like (The Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, and later Led Zeppelin). Plus, they use a lot of synthesizers, which I also love. And clearly, this is a legendary album with some epic songs. So why can't I give it five stars? It boils down to consistency. There are a few songs on this album that don't click with me, most notably "My Wife" and "Going Mobile." These aren't bad songs by any means, but their presence keeps this album from being a true masterpiece in my mind, even though it contains absolutely banger classic tracks like "Baba O'Riley," "Behind Blue Eyes," and "Won't Get Fooled Again." Apparently, this record has been remastered and reissued many times, and many of those releases are poor and have been brickwalled by the "loudness war" style of mastering. I listened to the MFSL Gold Disc, which was produced very well. It's worthwhile to try to find excellently mastered versions of the albums on the OAD. This effort is particularly relevant for this album. This is a classic record that I only connect to in a limited way. Four stars.
I think the issue is the two hits that bookend this album are too good and overshadow the rest of it massively. They are really good tho.
4.0 / 5 Let's go, probably one of the most classic Rock albums out there with certified meme potential. Apart from that, it's a solid album, but it's not what I'd consider the quintessential best there is.
not bad
Those drums roll through me. A blast of an album.
As good as a 70s Rock Album gets. "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't get fooled again" did make it on my freshly created 1001Albums Hit Playlist.
WHOS NEXT by THE WHO ( 1971 ) The album starts off weak with songs like" baba o'riley" only featuring 1 prominent guitar riff and songs like "love ain't for keeping" and "getting in time" lacking depth . "My wife" let's you get started in lyrical intrest with good storytelling. The album for me picks up momentum from "The Song is ove" , the songs that follow "Getting in Tune", "Going Mobile" and "Behind Blue Eyes" makes it difficult for you to choose a favourite, "Won't get fooled again" brings the best climax to the album concluding it on the best note possible . The higjoght for me were " Behind Blue Eyes " and " "Won't Get Fooled Again" . My favourite out of all songs was "Bargain" absolutely beautiful.
Two and a half hours of music, you must be joking (the five songs I listened to were good tho)
Listened before: yes Went to the good music factory and this was on
*Listened before the project* Not my favorite of them
Hell yeah Not quite perfect but we got Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, and Won't Get Fooled Again out of it.
I’m so torn on this. Half the album’s a five. The other half, the tracks 3-6 half, is a generous three. Do I let my enthusiasm for Baba O’Riley and Going Mobile and Won’t Get Fooled Again and Baba O’Riley win out here? Nobody’s ever suffered the way I do rating these albums. nevermind I watched Joe Pera Reads You The Church Announcements again. It gets the four. already in collection
Re-escuchar: buenos rocknrolles clásicos
A special record to me but I'm not so blinded as to think it's perfect!
Amazingly, I am giving this album four. I have always hated the who, and I just really cannot stand Roger Daltry‘s voice for whatever reason. But the reality is that this is a great album and I can acknowledge that.
algo bien, gracias Inglaterra Ojalá pudiera ponerle 5 pero no me gusta nada my wife jajaja
I can definitely see how this has been an influential album for many!
Baba O’Riley (Track 1) - Absolute Classic Bargain (Track 2) - Love Ain’t for Keeping (Track 3) - My Wife (Track 4) - The Song Is Over (Track 5) - Different starting pace than the rest, but becomes as much rock as the others by the end, ended up enjoying this the further it got into the song Getting in Tune (Track 6) - Going Mobile (Track 7) - Behind Blue Eyes (Track 8) - Won’t Get Fooled Again (Track 9) -
Classic
Multiple undeniable iconic hits, but there’s better albums from top to bottom.
Fine
Album #4 The Who: Who's Next Simply one of the finest Rock albums ever made. The album could have been called “The Best of The Who”, and no one would have batted an eye. Classic Rock was the first genre that really gripped me when I started listening to music, although at the time, I would only listen to playlists comprised of greatest hits rather than albums. The desire to listen to an entire album only arose when I noticed the same cover appearing next to multiple songs, which, when you are specifically seeking out the most popular and widely acclaimed songs, can be rare. Few albums can boast to having even one song which will go down as a classic throughout generations, a song which will still be played during the climax of a movie or sung at a karaoke bar in 2083, yet Who’s Next might just have three of them. “Baba O’Riley”, “Behind Blue Eyes”, and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” are three of the most recognizable and powerful rock songs ever recorded, and upon discovering all three and noticing that very same picture of four British dudes next to a stone slab next to each of them, I knew I must listen to the entire album. And the supporting cast of songs doesn’t disappoint. It’s hard to say there is any filler on this album; every song brings something to the table and never outstays its welcome. That being said, the three songs mentioned prior, whose standard shouldn’t be expected, ultimately do shine so brightly that the other appear dim in comparison. When you have three songs of that calibre, the others can appear ordinary in comparison. I will admit I don’t get that same spike of dopamine when “My Wife” kicks in that I do when the opening piano to “Baba O’Riley” plays. Which may be unfair criticism, but to me, that results in the album being a touch uneven and prevents the 5-star rating. Best Songs: Baba O’Riley, Won’t Get Fooled Again, Behind Blue Eyes Worst Song: My Wife Score out of 10: 9.5
bops
All the different instruments layer on top of each other so seamlessly, it drags you into the nostalgic fever dream that the album aims to create. It kind of shocks you throughout the album in a way that you never know where the songs are gonna go. Genuinely my favorite part of the album was Entwistle’s melodic bass lines. They really add so much to this album (specifically in The Song Is Over and Won’t Get Fooled Again). There were a few songs that I probably wouldn’t listen to again (My Wife..) but overall a very very solid album and a classic for a reason. Favorites: Baba O’Riley, Love Ain’t For Keeping, The Song Is Over, Won’t Get Fooled Again
Baba O Riley για πάντα!
Seems like this one is always a *takes off sunglasses under a miami filter* Killer listen
An album I always used to play. Generational songs on this album.
A great album that stands on its own, but also evokes nostalgia for the pleasant side of Covid, listening to records in the basement and playing endless foosball.
Fun! Parents listen to this one. Love the vibe.
it’s an automatic 4 for Baba O’Riley imo. really solid, another banger from 71
Straight bangers all day. I liked it even more than I thought I would which was already a lot
A precursor of longer rock songs throughout the 70s; karaoke-worthy and somewhat ambitious production (3.5-4)
I think this is a great album but it’s pretty much the only one I’ve listened to multiple times from this band! I got to hear The Who Sell Out last week so it’s cool to get this album now and hear how far they’ve come in 4 years time. Looks like I’ll have to listen to Tommy to get the full picture of their transition. They sure ramped up the production as they sound much more well recorded and mixed than from 4 years ago. Every single song has its own vibe and well worth listening to multiple times for their arrangements. Also great to hear the contrast of the two lead vocalists. One of the great rock bands of all time and unbelievably still going as of this writing at the end of 2025.
And this is when I learned that One Direction sampled The Who.
pretty good album, great songs, not my cup of tea BUT there are songs on here that id listen to again. Classic album. A solid 4/5
Got a little lost listening to this with so many different versions of the same songs. Pretty sure I listened to the whole album over four-ish days but may have missed a song or two
Favorite Track: Baba O’Riley
Four absolutely monster hits on this album.
This is one of those "let's get this one out of the way" albums that come up here. It's because this is an album that's been played to death in my life. I'm so on the fence about The Who. Daltry and Townshend are proper fucking boomer douchebags. Keith Moon, while great in his own right, is pretty overrated in the British rock drummer department. It was his over the top personality and above average drumming and John Entwistle that elevated his work. I understand that's a bitter pill to swallow but the guy would get smoked by anyone but Ringo Starr. John Entwistle is the one member that deserves all the praise he gets. He was easily the best musician in the band as well as one of rock's greatest bassists. My other issue is that I recently had a discussion about The Who's Tommy. The discussion resulted in (fully biased and subjective) the conclusion that it sucks. (Again, that's just me) However I also don't trust the opinion of the other person in said discussion. She sucks and listens to trash anyway. So after all that I admit this is a good album. It has the best writing and performances of the band's catalog. I still think they kinda suck but I'll rate this album high because it deserves it.
"Baba O'Riley", "Bargain", "Getting in Tune" and "Won't Get Fooled Again" are all great songs and classics for a reason, the rest is merely good. 4 stars
I'm not sure what it is, but I've never held the Who in the same regard as other classic rock artists like the Rolling Stones, Beatles, or Led Zeppelin. They certainly have some songs I love, but album-wise, I've always found them a bit underwhelming. I do think there's some great stuff here, but I also think it sags a bit in the middle. Still, it's solid enough and there's some great songs here. Highlights for me are "Baba O'Reily", "Bargain", and "Won't Get Fooled Again". 4 stars.
One of The Who's best
AGORA SIM!
Really strong album. Starts off with one of my favorite songs ever, which is very hard to follow up. There’s many solid songs on here though, and the final song’s got some rocking energy. That scream towards the end is just so iconic. In time, I might have to change my score to a 5.
For Baba
If I could give this negative stars I would
There are a number of huge rock bands from the 60s and 70s that I've never really cared for... The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Who... and I've enjoyed being "forced" to listen to their full albums and give them my undivided attention. What I have mostly learned is that yes, I do in fact do not care for much of their music. Especially those bands and specific albums that skew more blues inspired. But I will say the Who is the exception and I have come to appreciate them in a way I never did. This album in particular has been the best of the lot. The hits hold up and the songs in between were enjoyable as well.
Pretty long though
I liked this a lot more than I thought. I knew Behind Blue Eyes and Baba O'Riley and those are great songs, but the rest are also so good. Really good musicians playing simple music in an interesting way.
4.5
Strong beginning and ending but the middle was hit or miss. There were more hits than misses so a solid album but I wouldn’t choose to listen to the whole thing straight through.
Baba o'riley canço que ja me sona només començar es disc. M'ha agaradt molt s'album.
Great classic rock sound!
I have less time for The Who than I did as a young man, but when they rock, they rock. They’re at their best when they let Keith Moon be the main guy, and there’s a lot of that on this one.
Each song sounds sorta like Won't get fooled again
I’m going to give this a 4. I’m shocked tbh. Any time I hear the Who on the radio I usually kind of roll my eyes and change it. I don’t know why. Just was never a huge fan. But they are classic for a reason. The drums are kicking on this album. There are quite a few hits, that actually are good, I just have been overexposed to them. I actually did mostly like it.
Keith Moon is a beast.
Great album - really enjoyed two massive tracks, but enjoyed the whole album
Rock and roll. The Who are just straight good fun.
пойдет, хотя не фанат зе ху немного претенциозно, но за орили бабу уже респект сходу
When I put on Who’s Next, my first thought is: How is he doing this? Of course, I am referring to the intense drumset witchcraft of Keith Moon. His playing really propels this album and elevates it to higher spheres. But then it can also be tiring when you realize that his modus operandi is: "One fill after another (repeat endlessly)". Regardless, masterclass, Mr. Moon. Sometimes it's just too much for simple-minded me. Overall, I have to say that the occasional mid-tempo tracks (Getting in Tune, Going Mobile) don’t do much for me songwriting-wise, but that's really no big deal if you have a song such as “The Song Is Over” under your belt. The Who go prog rock? Well, if you have a songwriter as skilled as Pete Townshend and a drummer like Keith Moon in your ranks, what can go wrong? In short: nothing. In my book, this is the best song The Who have ever put on tape. In a way, I like the thought that "The Song Is Over" foreshadowed the more “conventional” passages of Fragile and Close to the Edge by Yes, which were released just a few months after Who’s Next. Even if that thought is probably bollocks, I feel the urge to spin Close to the Edge immediately after Who's Next concluding notes vanish into the aether. Since Who's Next ends on such a strong note (Won't Get Fooled Again), these albums compliment each other quite well, I'd say.
Very consistent, not my favorite type of rock, but I could see how The Who are as big as they are with this one
I always had this image of The Who as a more punk-leaning, guitar-driven band, so Baba O’Riley really surprised me, it’s not at all what I expected. Bargain is much closer to the sound I had in mind. And to be honest, my image of The Who still mostly comes from their My Generation era, so that rough, explosive sound is the one that sticks in my mind.
Great songs but so long
Never could stand “Getting in Tune” man
The bar for old school hard rock
This album has the feel of a "Best of The Who" because so many of these tracks were played (overplayed) on Classic Rock radio. There is no denying that these are among their greatest songs. But the Overplay is a strong negative factor. Hard to make a determination. 4/5
There are some absolutely genre-defining tune on this and at the same time some pretty forgettable stuff. Sadly the stuff that's great is the stuff that's well known and maybe the rest is not for a reason... (Except Bargain and at a push Love Ain't For Keeping).
This album could just be "Baba O'Riley" and forty minutes of velcro sounds and I'd still give it four stars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I79YNDYrUno
Great. Heard this also before in the last list but still excellent on replay.
Yeah heard it loads
It doesn’t seem that ‘The Who’ get their due anymore. They were easily one of the most consistently Fantasyic guitar rock bands of the 60-70s, yet you rarely hear of them anymore. Some filler here, but mostly strong stuff.
Not my favourite who album but still so good. I always thought this was released much later than it actually was. Baba o Reilly might be the best opening track on an album. Man they were great.
This is by far the best Who album they ever made - it contains the classics "Won't Get Fooled Again", "Behind Blue Eyes", "Bargain" and my all-time favourite song "Baba O'Riley" which my dad bought as a single in his teenage years and I played over and over again, amongst a hundred others of his collection, when I was ten and had my first record player. I was always disappointed it ended as a jam, and I really hoped, years later, that the album would contain the full (jam) version. Unfortunately, it didn't. What is remarkable about this album is the shift The Who made in just four years, from recording Mod-songs to rock operas to bonafide stadium rock. Keith Moon is totally all over the place here, with some outstanding drumming on "My Wife" and the aforementioned "Won't Get Fooled Again", but Roger Daltrey's singing is also at his best. Not to mention the role of Pete Townshend and his excellent acoustic guitar work on "Love Ain't for Keeping" but also for adding the synth parts on this record, making it a more interesting listen, without overdoing it. Yeah, there are some less interesting songs on it, like "Going Mobile" but that doesn't really undo the overall enjoyment of listening to this album. 4/5
A bit like a good DM, does its job well without demanding too much attention. Baba o Reilly is the greatest song of all time
The first 2 songs and the last 2 songs are legendary classic rock staples and still hold up. The middle of the album doesn't really do it for me.
I listened to this record a ton in high school 40+ years ago. Not so much subsequently, although the hits are inescapable. Holds up pretty well.
ROCK
There’s no need to have the same song on the album 4 times. It’s a good song but it’s gets real annoying to hear it played over and over again
This is an awesome example of why The Who are legends. There are several all-time classic hits in this album. Pitchfork: n/a Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #79 Best Songs Baba O'Riley Bargain Getting In Tune Behind Blue Eyes Won't Get Fooled Again
Some absolute classic songs here, but was unimpressed with some of the "b-sides".
A really mind blowing opener (Baba O’Reilly) and closer (Won’t Get Fooled Again) and lots of other great songs in between. I love the synth organ sound mixed with the guitars. Now that I that this was from a failed rock opera (Lifehouse) I can’t help hearing how stage-musical some of these songs sound (even though they’re great). I enjoyed listening to it, but it didn’t really move me in any significant way.
A handful of decent to average tracks sandwiched between a few of the greatest rock and roll numbers of all time. The album starts with a bang and ends with an even bigger bang. The drumming is soooo good. Sporadic, explosive, everything you would expect from Keith Moon. The synths are also incredible and they give the album a totally different feel to their previous records. A fantastic record. Favourite track - Baba O'Riley. 8.5/10
Sometimes this project is difficult, in the case of Who’s Next, the difficulty lies with how many times I have heard these songs. So coming in with a fresh perspective is tough because The Who have sold off these tunes to every which commercial or movie or shitty cop television program, that it’s kinda tainted these tunes. The Who are very much to blame, they watered down their great songs with overexposure and I think they’re an annoying band, an annoying band that really did make some great songs. It’s hard to dispute that Baba O’Riley and Behind Blue Eyes aren’t all time classics. Won’t Get Fooled Again really is an excellent closing track and the rest of the tracks are pretty decent too, though I don’t care too much for The Song is Over. I wanted to give this a 3 because I typically reserve 4’s for albums I will willingly return to and I don’t think I would ever return to this because, I’ve just heard these songs enough but had I heard this on release with no knowledge of how annoying the band is, I’d be into it. 4 stars
не фанат, поэтому 4.
i generally don’t care much for The Who, but Baba O’Riley slaps
Amazing milestone for classic rock, from all the old 60s bands that made it for the next decade, I believe the Who was the one to adapt the best compared to the others, and this album is a proof of that Baba O' Riley, the hymn for the teenage wasteland, is a perfect intro with that iconic keyboard and set the tone for what the album represents: an ode and also a tragic overview of the Rock n' Roll world, and how this phenomenon of the century still amaze us to this day
This is #day445 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… it's been a while since I got a The Who record, 310 days ago, to be precise. While The Who Sell Out was a fun listen, I think Who's Next truly belongs in the band's canon of classic, must-hear works. I mean, just the sheer presence of "Baba O'Riley," "Behind Blue Eyes," and the epic grandeur of "Won’t Get Fooled Again." Once again, the music was a perfect match for my Technics SU-7300. This is a 4 out of 5. Looking forward to #day446.
Lots of good classics
Not my favorite Who record, but it's a solid album. Realistically I'd give it like 3.5, but it's definitely better than some of the shit I've been giving 3s to lately, so I'm bumping it up. The synth work is fun, if a little primitive sounding by today's standards.
Felt like proto-metal, vaguely? A very good album.
Behind Blue Eyes ist von denen? Tolles Album
This album is a masterclass in sequencing — a lost art, really. Back when records still had sides, the order of the songs mattered; an album wasn’t just a playlist but a journey with a beginning and an end. Who’s Next proves that The Who understood that structure better than almost anyone. It opens and closes with two of the greatest songs ever written in rock music. “Baba O’Riley,” with its legendary Lowrey organ intro (not a synthesizer, despite what most people think), is one of those tracks that instantly justified the price of the LP — the kind you’d decide to buy after hearing the first 30 seconds through the headphones at the record shop. And then, at the other end, there’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” — a thunderous, cathartic closer that still sounds like the end of an era and the birth of something new. Between them, “Behind Blue Eyes” stands tall: tender, then explosive, a prototype for the rock ballad before the term even existed. The rest of the album, though, doesn’t quite reach those heights. “The Song Is Over” exposes Roger Daltrey’s limits as a singer, and some of the material feels uneven, more like connective tissue between the giants. Still, the peaks are so extraordinary that they cement The Who’s place — unfairly overlooked, at times — among the true architects of modern rock. They even toyed with early synthesizers here (“Going Mobile”), something virtually unheard of in hard rock at the time. It’s another small sign of how far ahead they were willing to go. No, Who’s Next isn’t flawless. But when it’s great, it’s as great as rock music gets.
The real measure for whether these classic albums really are as good as people say is if the deep cuts measure up to the (good) hits I've heard a million times And here, they really do. Great acoustic playing on Love Ain't for Keeping. My Wife has a cool turn from Entwistle on vocals. Getting in Tune simply rocks. Going on Mobile is catchy. I don't see myself returning to The Song is Over, and Behind Blue Eyes never did it for me.
More importantly, this album inspired my favorite 10 minutes of television: "Joe Pera Reads You the Church Announcements"
I think many of the people on here giving this immediate 5 stars forget just how forgettable the middle of this album is. 3.5/5
My favorite Who album on the list thus far. The variety, piano, and driving melodies are classics.
I didn’t think they were good, but they proved me wrong
This was by far the best Who album we've had. First half of the album is super strong, straight up incredible. No complaints for that half. Back half kinda drags, things slow down, less happening musically too. The last song does not need to be almost 9 minutes long. They don't really do anything with it, just the same ideas over and over again. I found "In Tune" to be quite funny I appreciated that.
I love the Who! Good album, some great songs.
Write a whole thing, but good album, way better than the one yesterday.(Live and dangerous) Middle falls off a bit, but beginning and end are great Best: Behind Blue Eyes Worst: Going Mobile
Great iconic album from which I already heard a couple of songs before
A really good album with some legendary songs! Rockstar doesn't have to look that far for intro songs for their future GTA-trailers, because they can all be found here!
Great album! Its a shame each song makes me think of different truck commercials, but its a great album!
Jedan od rijetkih klasičnih rock albuma koji su s razlogom klasici iako nisam prevelik fan generalnog zvuka. Izmislili su muziku. Fali malo basa, imali najboljeg basistu ikad a slabo se čuje.
Banging hell yeah
Very good.
Some great tracks on here, starts with Baba O'Reilly and ends with Behind Blue Eyes and Won't Get Fooled Again, the tracks in between can't quite live up to those but were mostly very good. Solid 4.
Very good rock album Enjoyed
Never have been a big fan of The Who. But dang, this album is bursting with classic rock hits. Favorite: Behind Blue Eyes
A mix of good and great.
Baba O’Riley // Bargain // Love Ain’t For Keeping // Won’t Get Fooled Again 3.5/5
Knew the hits but this is a solid album throughout. I’d put this in the 4.5 category because there were some skips and I don’t have any nostalgia did the record. That said I absolutely get why it has classic status after listening to the whole thing. Chose album tracks “Love Ain’t for Keeping” and “My Wife” for the playlist.
i guessss this is a classic
A classic.
This is why I am here for! I knew many o these songs, didn't knew enough. For me The Who was just "meh", but this is gold.
Great rock Album and probably The Who`s best Album. Fav: Won't get fooled again
i listened to this album sooooooooo so much when i was a teenager that i can’t help but feel a bit of affection toward it. it’s a great pop/rock record! sue me! i like when they say beep beep! fav tracks: baba o’riley; going mobile
This was actually fine. The first few songs really had my attention and over time my interest waned but it was pleasant. *Fav tracks: Baba O’Riley, Bargain*
Great album but forgettable save the big hits (Baba, Blue-Eyes, Won't get fooled again)
So many hits. A classic and influential album.
I mean, it's The Who
Who?
4.1 1x extended edition 2h33m
Solid album. I’d rank it above Mr Morales but below Section 80. GKMC at the top with Damn second
A thoroughly enjoyable album bookended by two absolutely legendary songs with a lot of good-to-great in between! Keith Moon is such an epic drummer. The final minute of Won't Get Fooled Again might actually be the best minute in recorded music history.
the mid is kinda ass but the rest of the album is so good i dont even care
Great album, classic Wio
Some great songs, some filler
Looks like a solid run of albums and this was very much a good one. I would however say first two songs and last two songs crackers, middle five a bit more on the average side. I think the maths still come out to a four overall.
Banging start, banging end, dips in the middle but still good stuff
Better than you remember, worse than it's reputation
an album of massive hits. Good tunes, sounds fun for the era - progressive for it's time. Great talent across the board with instruments.
It’s always Beatles or Stones, The Who always gets snubbed. They’re light years better than the stones. My theory is that they rocked so hard that they surpassed that debate and are instead included in later bands like Zeppelin. They’re light years really do have two distinct eras, the early British Invasion years and then later when they turned it up to 11. Anyways, this might be their best album. One of the best openers and closers in rock history.
Probably my favorite Who album.
Played like a greatest hits album. Easily one of the most influential of the 20th century.
Who's Next features all round great performances from the band. Every sing is great and a few songs are superb. 'Baba O'Riley', 'Won't Get Fooled Again' and 'Behind Bleu eyes' make the others les poignant. A great endeavor from the band, not their best.
THEY'RE ALL WASTED. Gotta be the Who's best album. Favorite track: Baba O'Riley
I think this is truly a classic album. This is what you think of when you hear classic rock.
4.0 - Very Good
So many bangers on this one. Amazing production and sleeper hits
It was a cool album, at first I wasn't digging it, but the last few songs we quite cool
eh questo peak, 4.7
Baba O'Riley is such a killer opening track dude. Good few legendary songs on this one. Overall pleasant listen, just short of a 5.
4- Stars (10/15)
Songs I already knew: "Baba O'Riley" and "Behind Blue Eyes"
Ikonisk start. Mye bra.
It's a classic. I just didn't really like the mix I listened to. Also would have loved to hear the concept album that these songs were taken from
Classic
4/5 kuullut kyllä the whosta mutta en olis yhtään biisiä nimetä. Useita tosi tarttuvia stygejä!
Bab O'Riley is an absolute classic. Yet I have never heard any other song from the Who. It might have been that I am to young. Or that my parents didn't listen to then when I grew up, But now really listening to them for the first time with a whole album I love what I am hearing. Classic rock rhythms and a great voice on the singer. While some songs weren't my favorite I have already added several on my rock playlists. Really good album that I will listen to more times!
You can tell how influencial this album was on artists that would follow in the 70s and 80s, The Who really set the standard for that classic rock sound. Great use of early synths as well.
Utterly fantastic Middle is a slight slouch tho

By far their best and my favourite album by The Who although I’m not particularly a massive fan!
i’ve become a bit dissociated with The Who of late as my favourite Radio Station has played them to death. But this album was good, very good. However i’ve had my fill for a wee while
Very good. Particularly enjoyed from The Song Is Over onwards. Starting with Baba O'Riley and ending with Won't Get Fooled Again is a quite a strong way to start and end an album. Well done to you, The Who.
Gotta love The Who!
A rich (as in full and colourful) rock sound which I enjoyed more and more as the album went on. Behind Blue Eyes was my best track. Not something I’ll likely revisit but I certainly enjoyed the classic nature of it this afternoon.
I don't know that I'll ever listen again, but I enjoyed the vibe of these guys much more than a lot of other stuff in this decade. They're very good. Also Behind Blue Eyes is such a good song, memes aside.
Loaded with classic rock tracks, no skip album. Would definitely add to my collection.
