Lou reed e nice with it ja gillar hans röst
Cool album. A bit on the fence with quite how much I like the music but it’s something like a decent 4
Bra skiva! Walk on the Wild Side är överlägset hårdast thouuu
Exceptional Standouts: Perfect Day, Walk on the Wild Side, Satellite of Love,
Some classics here but also some pretty out there stuff
i like lou reed in general. as part of this project, i was subjected to velvet underground's atrocious second album, and transformer is so much more palatable than that. there was some weirdness, but it wasn't overpowering. the quirks remind me of reed's punk origins. he leans more into rock on transformer, but he dips his toe into punk and pop, and jazz? i mean, i admired the tuba and saxophone inclusion on "goodnight ladies" but it was unusual on the album. i guess that ties back into punk, huh? reed's voice struck me. like some other musicians of this time period, they weren't strong singers--alice cooper comes to mind immediately. but these kinds of singers have unique voices and bring something different to their songs. in fact, reed's steady voice is perfect for slower songs like "perfect day" or "satellite of love." lyrics tend to be stronger, i think, for these kinds of musicians. the first few opening lines of "vicious" seems to prove that. 3.5
sonzao, classico e pa
Here's an example of an influential album that certainly influenced folks but still sounds fresh
Soft vocals, talk singing. Some of the songs have more action than others, but overall Lou has a knack for composing a rhythmic compilation. He has created interesting lyrics with uncommon story telling and fun choruses. He employs some various instrumentals including keys, horns, and strings. The quality of the album is adequate.
"Transformer" is the second studio album by American recirding artist Lou Reed. It was produced by Mick Ronson and David Bowie who helped promote it. Both Ronson and Bowie were also musicians in the band and some songs do very much sound like early 70's Bowie. Reed had written the songs while in The Velvet Underground and, I know, there's some versions of these songs if you search the VU discography catalogue. The album is considered an influential landmark in the glam rock genre. It also gave Reed commercial success and took him from cult status to international fame. "Vicious" was written at the request of Andy Warhol. When Reed asked Warhol about vicious, Warhol said "vicious, like getting hit with a flower." Sure enough that lyric appears in the song. A nice Velvet Underground guitar melody. Ronson on lead guitar gives a unique, scratchy, searing solo. A melancholy piano, guitar and a string arrangement by Ronson highlight "Perfect Day." About heroin and one of Reed's best songs. Speaking of Reed's best songs, side one ends with "Walk On the Wild Side." The classic bass line. The doo-doo-doos. Name another song you think of when you hear Polly. OK, Nirvana don't count. Sexual orientation, gender identity, prostitution, drug use. And it's 1972. Another Reed classic "Satellite of Love" was written as Reed observed a guy watching a satellite launch. About jealously. Great piano melody and backing vocals. "I'm So Free" is more rockin' and a good glam rock example. The album ends with "Good Night Ladies " I didn't know Reed had New Orleans ragtime in him. Horns. Jazzy. Whimsical. The title based on a T.S. Elliot poem and also a line from Shakespeare's Ophelia right before she dies. The highs on this album are super high from the Lou Reed cannon. The other songs are decent, maybe though, not at his Velvet Underground level. The influence of Bowie and Ronson are heard throughout. The album is very good and definitely worthy a listen if you haven't yet and a re-listen if you have.
Somewhere between 4 and 5. Continues the clever songwriting and easy but unforgettable hooks of Velvet Underground, and cuts new ground in the glam rock direction, no doubt because Bowie and Ronson were behind it. The subject matter is really out there for the US in the 70s, and even the quirkiest tracks have an edge to them. I've listened many times and will continue to do so.
Bereits gehört. Ikonisch. 8-9/10
Lou Reed is truly an icon. I absolutely loved Walk On the Wild Side and Vicious. His sound is very unique, but David Bowie producing the album does influence the sound a bit.
I ♡ Lou Reed. I like to pretend he's my ultra weird uncle and I'm just so proud of every one of his quirky songs.
Interesting album, very varied, very good guitar.
I am ashamed to admit I had no idea the David Bowie produced this album. I’ve listened to it so many times in the past. After reading that and listening again I notice it so much. Landmark album.
This is exactly what I was in the mood for today. Thanks to this challenge, I went down a Lou Reed, Velvet Underground, and Iggy Pop rabbit hole. Perfect Day & Walk On the Wild Side are classics, and I love Satellite of Love. The album gets a little sleepy at times, but it's such a solid listen, I left it on repeat. 4 stars.
Different song styles, catchy groovy stuff. Some progressive messaging for a 1972 album with "Make Up". Overall good listen.
This album slowly and surprisingly won me over.
Lyrically with is going on. Its interesting stuff, will listen again
No stinkers, great composition.
I've owned this album for years. Solid 9.7/10
Very 70s feel good soft rock music, loved it and love him :)
“Walk on the Wild Side” — the most popular and commercially successful song off Lou Reed’s seminal second solo album (and one i already knew) — is a song i consider to be borderline perfect. Reed perfectly creates a mood peppered with tranquility and light nostalgia as he recalls experiences of close friends walking on the wild side. it is a testament to Reed’s quietly epic writing and David Bowie’s rich production that the rest of the album surrounding that centerpiece manages to hold up lyrically and sonically. Reed doesn’t reinvent the wheel here, but the music on Transformer still feel particularly otherworldly in how they ebb, so non-intrusively, that you don’t realize how much of a punch they pack until you’re square on the ground. Reed’s greatest strength here is his ability to evoke: on “Perfect Day”, for example, he pens a tune that so succinctly feels like the contentment and peace derived from a sweetly mundane day; on “Andy’s Chest”, his humor shines through as his words bleed care and affection for a dear friend; and then there’s “Satellite of Love”, a beast of emotional turmoil and pain that genuinely threatens to eclipse “Walk on the Wild Side” with its simple descriptions and comparisons. there are some songs that break up the album’s tight pace and let some steam off the top, but one can’t ask for a better representation of an era of music that just wanted to see people feel to the fullest.
Bra greier!! Et par bangers der også. Merker godt at David Bowie har produsert
Real cool
good
Transformer is a great and classic glam rock record and deserves the praise it got throughout the years. Some killer tracks like "Vicious", "Perfect Day", "Walk On The Wild Side" and "Satellite of Love" rises this album up there with other great rock classic. However, this album is far from perfect with fillers like "New York Conversation" and "Goodnight Ladies" paling in comparison with the great tracks here. 8,5/10
Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Vicious, Perfect day, Wagon wheel
Perfect Day is just about a perfect song. There's a few other greats on here. At times I was a little underwhelmed, but overall, a great album.
This is Lou’s most accessible album and very pleasant on my ears, which are still recovering from White Light/White Heat. The song writing is solid throughout, though at times the lyrics go from clever to goofy. I like the lesser known tracks, (like Andy’s Chest and Make-up and Perfect Day) especially when they feature a tuba. I didn’t realize that the reigning Spiders from Mars produced this and contributed in a big way to the overall sound.
Really strong songwriting in my opinion. I really enjoy the arrangements of the songs as well.
4.5. Some all time greats and a few duds
Expected irritating, pretentious, monotony. Pleasantly surprised that I didn’t get that. Really good songwriting. Lots of melody. Reed’s delivery of talk-singing is unique and interesting, but what I like most is every lyric is understandable throughout. I always taken in the musical quality of lyrics, but not the meaning, because they’re always so hard for me to understand. This was refreshing in that sense. 1 = bad 2 = average 3 = good 4 = great 5 = outstanding
pretty nice
Fantastic album! 4 clear stand outs: Sattelite of Love, Walk On The Wild Side, Perfect day and Vicious
Lou Reed's Transformer is a seminal piece of art rock, which has spawn countless imitations, cover versions and film adaptations. U2 and Lloyd Cole's versions are among the strongest). While some of the themes play off of earlier content by The Kinks (Lola) and David Bowie's (also the album producer) entire ethos, Lou Reed's delivery made these themes distinctly his own. As a result, the album can also be considered at the forefront of a global conversation about #LGBTQ rights and equality. The album also transports the listener to the dark and dirty back alleys of early 1970s New York City's night life and sexual underworld. All good things...
Ein af þessum snilldarplötum frá fæðingarári mínu. Mæli með!
I enjoyed a lot. Very interesting character.
Some great tracks here
A good fun time.
First half is amazing, second half could be a bit better
Amazing album
Transformer by Lou Reed cemented him as a rock and roll legend. Some of his best material turns up on here. 'Viscious' and 'Hangin' Around' are some of my personal favourites, as well as 'Walk On the Wild Side', obviously. Unlike the Iggy Pop record Lust For Life which we reviewed a few weeks ago, the Bowie influence on here is not as jarring, yet it's still noticeable. 'Perfect Day' and 'Satellite of Love' have Bowie's fingerprints all over it, yet these tunes don't lose Reed's charisma through his witty lyrics and that forever recognisable voice. There's a slight drop off in quality on the back end in comparison to the first half, however I still thoroughly enjoy Transformer. Awesome record!
Lou was actually capable of writing the occasional album of accessible and enjoyable songs, post Velvets, and this his most consistent and best solo album. Bowie's production really lifts the songs. Mark Ronson and Herbie Flowers need to be highlighted as best on field for their playing contributions. Some absolute classic songs (Wild Side, Satellite, Vicious).
This album is so cozy even with Reed's imperfect voice. Perfect Day sounds like something straight out of a movie soundtrack. Also the production quality sounds way better than other albums from its time. Fave track(s): Perfect Day, Satellite of Love
diver
Really enjoyed half the songs and hated the others. A divisive but good album
A very good album, not quite 5 star worthy because a few songs aren't all that great. Quite possibly Lou's best post-VU work.
Le rappeur préféré de mon rappeur préféré
petite journée parfaite là 🫠
This is such an inherently interesting album, full of well crafted songs that are so much fun to listen to. The real spark of this album lies in how Lou Reed tempers the darker, more prickly aspects of his sound with moments of sweetness and vulnerability. This is arguably Reed's best album. Fave Songs: Satellite of Love, Walk on the Wild Side, Perfect Day, Vicious, Goodnight Ladies, I'm So Free
Highlights: Hangin' Round, Perfect Day, Make Up. Didn't realize just how much I like Lou Reed, and I can hear the lines connecting this album to the artists he influenced, which is always fun.
Amazing album until the last song which feels like I am attending a bad pantomime.
Incredible album, Lou reed is simply fantastic, however it doesn't quite have the punch of his stuff while with the velvet underground so it leaves a little to be desired. Fav song: vicious Least fav song: Andy's chest
Giving it a 4 for the good stuff and I can tell it was pretty cutting edge musically. The album in totality is a 2.75
lou reed as an artist is so hit-or-miss for me, and this album really encapsulated that, with some tracks I love and others that I really wanted to hit skip on. overall, it takes a positive review because the highs are really high , and even when the lyrics made me cringe, those david bowie touches in the production held things together. 7/10
8/10. Really rather nice, lyrically quite cool. And always fun to learn where a memorable sample comes from
What a strange album. Lou Reed has a pretty mediocre voice but I caught enough of the lyrics to like the overall package. 7/10
I’ve heard the big hit but also “Perfect Day”. I really like this album because it sounds like early New Wave but there’s less electronic synths that true new wave
Really enjoyed the witty lyrics and riffs. Goodbye Ladies is a fantastic track
Honestly it was just a really nice album. A great record.
Lou Reed is one of those artists who I think is a good song writer, but I don’t like the way he performs his own songs. I almost always prefer the covers to his originals.
This was dope!
No idea that so many big classics were packed onto one album. Particularly loved Vicious - excellent opener. Andy’s Chest did absolutely nothing for me but everything else is absolute perfection.
Before going into this, I was pretty excited. I've heard Walk on the Wild Side before and thought it was decent, but loved Satellite of Love and Perfect Day. I've been meaning to listen to this for a while. Upon listening to Transformer in full, I can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed. There are a few additional songs I like including Vicious and Make Up, but I didn't care for the album after Satellite. Its still a good album, but my expectations were probably a bit too high coming into this.
Glam rock
4/5 very nice!!!
Fun, clever, good music. A unique slice.
I already knew Lou Reed so this album style was not much of a surprise for me! I do quite like the overall vibe: there's something quite soothing about the general rhythm and voice tones! Fav Track: Perfect Day
good
I liked it
soothing, very soothing. this really calmed me and made my day better. :)
Nice and chill, good mix of sad happy and funny. Take a walk on the wild side bro.
Very enjoyable. Like a missing Velvet Underground album.
This was the type of album where every song was pretty great, but as a whole it got a smidge too samey. But man, some groundbreaking stuff here, especially lyrical content-wise.
Lou Reed was a referent. The best songs in this album are "Vicious" and "Walk on the wild side".
Expanding my mind yo!
Wow. Best album i’ve never heard. So many great songs!
aka Ziggy goes to NY. Skuzzy, just how I like it.
4.5
Great album to put into the rotation. Proto-indie rock in many ways. Great songs
Big fan. However the album includes the sublime and the ridiculous. Classics inter dispersed with cabaret tunes. Cover art 5/5 iconic in its own way
Great collection of songs. Reminded me of Adam Green
A fun and pretty good little album. Lots of recognisable songs alongside a few lesser known, but listenable pieces. My first real Lou Reed exposure was a Nelson Mandela celebration concert and I did not "get" the gruff atonal man or know about his Velvet Underground past. Now I still find his voice languid and a bit annoying, but I quite enjoy it's unique sound and it fits well with the excellent songs. I agree with others that some rhyming is childish, but so it was with the Beatles and Beach Boys. Great album.
wanted to give this a 5 but the end of the album kinda dropped off. too much filler. great songs are great though
A fantastic album, combining the wit and poetry of someone like Leonard Cohen with the punk sensibilities of Iggy Pop. World-weary, weird, and wise
Hell yeah. Sure, his voice is bad, but cut Lou some slack. He and David were inventing bisexuality!
Very close to a 5 falls a bit short second half
Listened to on 7/11/22 4/5 Favorite song: Perfect Day The cover for this album is so contradictory to what it is - very calm and relaxing background
Really great album! Beautifully produced and performed collection of 70's rock music. Favourite songs are Vicious (fav), Perfect Day, Hangin' Round, Walk On the Wild Side, Make Up, and I'm So Free. However, I feel like the lyricism is kinda lacking, giving me no idea about what the overall message or goal or concept of the album.
Classic Lou Reed album, not my favourite of his, that distinction goes to Coney Island Baby which has a more relaxed and personal feel, but Transformer is the album that gave Lou his solo voice and launched his career. And of course it has classic songs like Walk on the Wild Side, Perfect Day and Satellite of Love which have all become classics. It does have some filler material as well which keeps it from being a 5 star album. 4.5 stars
The whole package. Lou Reed crosses the punk, post-punk eras and launches himself into glam with the much needed help of David Bowie. This album is such a gem of a listen.
A psychedelic depression with expressionistic overtones. Love him. (7/10) FT: Perfect Day, Walk on the Wild Side
I liked this album. A slightly jazzier velvet underground. I suspect this album grows on you, but for now only four
Some great songs. Perfect day.
Certainly interesting to see the beginnings of what his supporters believed in. Perfect Day is such an incredible song. Walk On the Wild Side is such a classic along with Satellite of Love. But there's a few oddballs in the mix as well.
Some parts were coffee by the fireplace, while other parts were strolling down the street in studded leather. A good balance, I'd say.
Some good songs on this one, but also some throw aways. Doesn’t reach the heights of the Velvet Underground and Nico.
I'm sorry, my rules are strict; if you have a song with the lyric "little girl", you lose a star, no matter how good the rest is.
Loved the well known tracks, they were excellent. Not so bothered about most of the rest. Think the great tracks elevated it to a 4*
One of those albums where the lesser knows tracks outperform the chart toppers...
The older I get, the more I love Lou Reed. Among musicians that are artists...I think he is a king. He didn't give a fuck what anyone else was doing, he just did what he wanted. The Velvet underground never got him any commercial success and his first album was kinda blah, so hooking up with Bowie (who produced this album) while he was in Europe he came up with this masterpiece. Walk on the Wild Side, Sattelitte of Love, NY Conversation. All amazing. Love this.
Say what you will about Lou Reed, he always puts together an interesting album. It's been a few years since I've revisited Transformer. For some reason I always think this album is going to be more intense than it is. Perhaps its the combination of the title and cover art. Regardless, this is a cool album. Relax, yet very engaging, like a lot of Reed's work. Perhaps his finest work outside of the Velvet Underground 4/5
Taboe-doorbrekend, en met goeie muziek
Några bangers
lou reeed is smoooooth
I really dig it
Much better storytelling voice than Dylan. Can actually sing too
This record has a cool feel to it. I imagine it's exactly what NYC in the 70's felt like. A bit sleazy, a bit scary, a cool mystique. Lou has such an interesting voice and delivery. Hard to imitate. A classic record.
The three "hits" (read: The songs you know) are unabashed classics, which also makes this Reed's most accessible work. I'm all for Reed and the Velvets appearing on the list. I even love a few other of the album cuts on here (although a couple are an absolute snooze). This baby is a Sweet Jane away from being bumped up to 5 territory.
I've read Reed himself disdained this album at least somewhat but I love it. Wild Side, Perfect Day, I'm So Free... it's rock and roll, it's sweetness with hard edges, and queer as hell to boot. Essential.
A really nice album, great for a late listen with a couple of beers. Some amazing songs and topped off with that sublime oboe solo on Walk in the Wild Side
I would love to know what concoction of "medicine" he was on when this was written. I do like the album, and even though some of his bigger songs are on this album, I actually liked the songs 'Hangin' 'Round' and 'I'm So Free'
I found Andy's Chest to be confusing and upsetting, but otherwise this is a really nice album. Perfect Day and Wild Side are such classics that they single handedly bump it up to 4 stars. You can hear a lot of Bowie in this album. Or, maybe you can here a lot of this album in Bowie.
Become anything
Really interesting album, some classics, lots of stories about interesting people.
A few classic songs amidst some fairly inaccessible material
Ha, yes, definitely edges out Fred Schneider as the best talking singer. I own this album, it's too hip. Not everything works, but that's often the case with a mind as original as Reed's. I'll always pick a curious failure over mediocre competence
For some reason I expected this to be much more inconsistent than it actually is. Song after song it worked for me and overall I thought it sounded excellent. Cons? No songs about Optimus Prime. False advertising, bro.
There are a couple of duds on this album but overall it's pretty solid. Stylistically it's a little weird as it's pretty much spoken word rock and that's cool.
Lou Reed's 'Transformer' is one of the leaders of glam-rock. Reed's storytelling ability in his vocals is amplified by David Bowie and Mick Ronson's production, spawning what is a tidy and clean arrangement of an album. Mostly straightforward, 'Transformer' is the perfect soul snack for relaxing and laid-back listening.
Solo por el trio de canciones Perfect Day, Walk on the wild side y Satellite of Love este disco ya se merece la gloria.
Very good !
Its an eclectic bunch of songs, that's hard not to enjoy. A couple songs strike me as a bit unsettled thanks to how emotionally disconnected Lou's vocals sounds from the rest of the performance. It works well for narrative songs like "Walk On the wild Side" and "New York Telephone Conversation", but feels flat on other songs like "Make Up". Where the album really connects though are songs like "Perfect Day", "Vicious" and the final third of "Satellite of Love" (made even richer by Bowie's backup vocals). Overall it's an enthralling album that crosses boundaries and sounds amazingly modern for an album that's has been our for nearly half a centry.
Very much enjoyed listening to the album 'Transformer' by 'Lou Reed'
Nice moody vocals. Catchy melodies. Last couple songs a bit shit but overall great
A well-produced effort by Lou Reed with the help of Bowie. "Walk on the Wild Side" is one of my favorite songs of the decade, an artsy sound with verses covering LGBT themes, prostitution, and drugs, among others. Many songs feel bipolar, feeling sad with (seemingly) happy highlights. "Perfect Day" is the best example. I like the weird art rock tracks, and use of brass, that makes the filler stand out. My least favorite tracks are the harder glam rock tracks, like "Wagon Wheel" and "I'm So Free," but I still like the simplistic yet emotional lyrics. This is an album I frequently come back to, even if just for my favorite tracks.
i've always liked you reed, but i've never really been super familiar with his work, apart from the big stuff. i think i may've liked VU better than his solo stuff, but...well, this was still pretty cool
I think it was good
Awesome album. A bit odd at times bit great tracks, music and lyrics
I have heard a few songs in isolation, but not in a while and certainly not in album form. Really like Vicious, Perfect Day, Walk On the Wild Side (most people know this one). Perfect Day was really good because Lou Reed is NOT a good singer, if it was sung by someone traditionally I would not like it nearly as much. There really isn't a bad song on here, but some I could ignore but overall a 4. Nice production as well. It might be a remaster, but if not then that's pretty impressive. Funny listening to Goodnight Ladies on an actual Saturday Night.
do do do do do
Goods and bads. His voice is so monotone but there’s some good rock as well
Na ez jó.
Lou Reed is good. The best songs of this album are "Vicious" and "Walk on the wild side".
when I first saw my album for the day was Lou Reed I sank a little, only because when I knew of him was little and my impression was negative. How wrong was I, aside from his well known releases such as Walk on the wild side and Perfect day there are some very good tracks on this album. Andys chest is a little out there, but it does paint quite a picture if you listen to the lyrics, as does Make up, the ones I enjoyed: Satellite of love Perfect day Walk on the wild Side Given that it was released in '72 it was a brave move to talk about alternative sexuality, prostitution and cross dressing all of these things still being quite taboo subjects back then. The Bowie influence is certainly there, there were points in Make up where I didn't know if I was listening to Reed or Bowie. Given that the album is 49 years old its still got a sound that doesn't age it in the 70's
Fantastic!
Love the zany stream of consciousness vocals on this + bowie plastered all over the production. Really love the closing track and ofc, Perfect Day. i would give this a 3.8 rather than a 4 as some tracks dont hit as hard.
This is classy af. Though I'll never be convinced that Perfect Day is any good. Fav new song - Goodnight Ladies
Walk On The Wild Side - ту-туру-туру угарные, особенно когда они рандомно становятся супер громкими Make Up - не запомнил тоже, необязательная песня Satellite Of Love - достойно быть хитом наравне с Perfect Day как будто, качает прям Wagon Wheel - Тоже кач, стандартный такой Рид со странными текстами New York Telephone Conversation - какая-то богемная приколюха, особо не понял I'm So Free - подпевки четкие, песня немного смешит ближе к середине. к.
There's Bowie magic throughout this album. Like it a lot.
love lou reed. good album
wow!
Another of the 'I didn't realize that this is where X song comes from'.
Seminal work from a rock and alternative pioneer. Reed explores New York City through the lens of a lyricist and archivist as he encapsulates the time and city, free from Velvet Underground. It is amazing how timeless all of his work is, but this stands out as among his best.
Great album from lou reed. Really pushed the boundaries for rock and roll music. Very much ushered in Glam Rock.
Perfect Day hits hard
giid
Very cool
Solid!
Tanginang bading
Loved this back in the day. Perfect Day/Walk on the Wild Side are played out to death but there's not really a bad track here.
Existem algumas músicas famosas como Perfect Day e o Walk on the Wild Side, aprimeira música é uma clara alusão ao Bruno Aleixo. Nota 7/10 04/06/2024
it was enjoyable, the singles are epic, not as good as velvet underground but still an enjoyable album. some weird songs on it, but they're still pleasant on the ear.
I like Lou Reed so can’t fault this album
Nice mix.
This has 3 quality songs and on. Took me a while to get used to lou Reed. Like this album, and his live albums.
Remember in the mid 90s when a bunch of singers covered Perfect Day? Like Heather from M People smashing the granny out of it. David Bowie, The Lightning Seeds and bloody Boyzone!!! What a time.
The coolest album cover of all time, produced by Bowie, songs about New York's seedy underbelly, Lou Reed at his most accessible, what's not to love?
I have to be in the mood for Lou Reed and this one always puts me there whether I want it to or not. Such a good album. Not a classic, but very very good.
Really good mix of different type of songs
It's something very pleasurable to discover a new album and recognize it as something classical. This album is great!
Suuuper nice vibes
Few classics on there.
This album was produced by Bowie and I think you can tell on certain tracks. I have a fond memory of singing Perfect Day in a choir at Primary School.. a few years later I was told it was about drugs and then felt sad that we were singing that as children. BUT NOW I have just found out that actually it is just about love and having a really good day. My memory can be restored. I really enjoyed this album, varied and solid tracks
Super glammy but DIY punk themes are definitely sprinkled throughout. Mick Ronson guitar is outstanding but the piano gets a little annoying after awhile
Fantastic
mwah
The album of the day is Transformer by Lou Reed and it's made me very excited. I know it produced one of the Reed's most popular songs 'Walk on the wild side" which I've enjoyed for years. But it's 'Perfect Day' that is by far my most favorite song from this album. I'm sure it has a lot to do with a certain scene in Trainspotting, a movie I've seen so many times. Besides the subject matter, a really great dark comedy that gets funnier every time you watch it. Except the baby scene of course, which devastates every time. I'm enjoying this album and it's like an old friend I get to hang out with this morning in my office cube. It makes me want to dive back into the entire Velvet Underground catalog today and absorb it all into my head. Good for David Bowie to champion Lou and help birth this album into existence. This might be exactly what I needed this morning in my life.
now i know where the intro bassline to can i kick it comes from!
A fav since I was in middle schooler! Holds up and you gotta love Reed's deadpan.
Every track an interesting one.
Klassista rokkia.
Always loved this record, and it seems to get better with age.
The rest of the album is surprisingly different than the most known songs from it
Good ol' rock n' roll with honest, straightforward songwriting. Favorite tracks: Perfect Day, Hangin' 'Round, Walk on the Wild Side, Satellite of Love. Least Favorite Tracks: New York Telephone Conversation, Goodnight Ladies.
One of the great art rock artists and one of his solid proto-punk works. I especially like when he works jazz into his sound like on Goodnight Ladies. Also Walk on the Wild Side is a certified classic.
Good stuff here. I always knew Lou Reed for "Walk On the Wild Side", but a lot of the sons are here are great as well. I would pick this up if I saw this at a store.
Some great songs on there
Good 'ol Lou. Satelite of love, my friend!
Considered a classic American rightly so.... just very cool!
Man känner igen mycket!
Musically, it's kinda amazing that he has a career. He can't sing, all that well. HE can write wonderful lyrics about the craziest thing or the most mundane. He surrounds himself with Bowie & whatnot. It's makes him better. I thought this was ok. Not perfect but not imperfect either. 3
A couple of standout tracks but overall this didn't leave much of an impression for me. Going into this only knowing "Walk On The Wild Side" I think I expected more apparent experimentation throughout the rest of the track list.
I love Lou Reed, but I think Bowie did too much here. Still good though
Depresif ama neşeli. Melankolik ve sevimli. Neden klasik olduğunu anladım.
A few strong songs (wild side, perfect day) dont really recover this album fully for me. I’m not the biggest fan of his voice, and the Velvet have never been a huge one for me. Overall it was a fine semi accounting simpler album with a few nice onesies
um soft rockzinho legal
i know exactly where i can play this song in ny
I really enjoyed this album. Every song was good -great. A good mix some hard rock sounding songs and some fun, weird and out there ones. I think I'll revisit this one in the future. Best song was Perfect Day which I knew from Trainspotting, still love that song but I really enjoyed this album. I'll give it 3 stars 🌟🌟🌟

I feel similarly about Lou Reed as I do about Velvet Underground. I feel like I should really like him but just don't. I like a couple songs on this album but I think his talk-singing gets old to me. Not bad but not good.
First album I actually liked
I groaned when I saw this album, but I enjoyed it more than I thought i would. Lou Reed's monotone voice was more calming than monotonous. I knew a couple of the songs, and have a cover on the tip of my tongue "you just keep me hanging on" but I can't place it.
6.5/10 It matched the vibe of the post dewy morning, and i'm suprised i actually enjoyed this genre
Same world as Bowie — theatrical, art-rock, voice-as-character rather than voice-as-instrument. Lou Reed also produced by Bowie, also from that early 70s New York scene. Also not someone I'd call a great singer. But something works better here. The vibe is warmer, less posed. "Walk on the Wild Side", "Perfect Day" — genuine hits that earn their place. The album doesn't try as hard to be interesting as it actually is. I apparently own this on vinyl, via my father. Still in the dragon's den. Might be worth retrieving one day. 3/5 — don't quite get it, but this one I can live with.
The A-side was really good. Especially "Perfect Day" is a great song, but also the upbeat rock numbers were very enjoyable. Then, the B-side. What happened here? Didn't dig the tuba. Weaker songs overall. It's a pity. Still, nice find. 3.0/5 - good

Inconsistent. This has some of the greatest songs ever recorded (Walk on the Wild Side, SoL, Vicious). Then there are the...silly songs? (Make Up, NY Telephone Conversation, Goodnight Ladies) that have tubas and sound like rejected carnival songs that just take me out of the album. I'm still tempted to give it a 4* rating because the highs are so high, but I just can't get there.
I liked a lot of the songs but a lot of the lyrics brought me in and out of the songs. Specifically Walk On the Wild Side. Goodnight Ladies sucked - did not like that song at all. Easy to listen to, not too harsh on the brain. Lou was an interesting character.
Mostly good
Highlights where New York telephone conservation and I'm so free
6/10 - has a couple of classics but I cant remember anything else
Not bad; this has Walk on the Wild Side.
Me ha gustado, entre 3 y 4
Such a weird intriguing album, I do appreciate it for what it is. I’m between three and a four star, we’ll see you in the morning comes, I appreciate most of the album.
This is ok.
it was great but not really something that stays inside my mind for long and it kinda made me sad which isnt so great for my mental health right now
Starting off with vicious! Very characteristic of the time this album was released, but I enjoyed it immensely. Lyrics were nothing special, but I liked them. Andy’s Chest wasn’t bad and I was grooving, until the lyric “hairy minded pink bare bear”. That was the worst lyric, but there were other bad ones in there too. Perfect day was actually really nice. I liked the instrumental. Hangin round was a ton of fun!! Walk on the wild side… apart from a few choice lyrics… was interesting to listen to. I do like a narrative track. Make up was alright. Had a vibe to it. Satellite of love was slightly cringe, but it wasn’t horrid. Wagon wheel was again quite basic. Not bad per se, just basic. I’m so free, again, nothing really to talk about here. Goodnight ladies was a slightly creepy closer, but um, yeah. This was a weird album because it didn’t suck, it just had some questionable lyrics and didn’t really have anything that made me go “ok, that was really great”. There were bits I liked for sure, especially at the start as I wrote, but again apart from a few tracks when the album was fresh nothing really wowed me. 3/5 ⭐️ 155/1089
"Vicious" was a great song and gave me hope for the rest of the album. "Walk On the Wild Side" is ubiquitous with Reed as well as NYC. If the lyrics do it for you, then great. But I need more than that. It all came down to 2-3 songs that, musically, were really good. The rest don't count because Lou can't sing for shit. He gets a third star for being true to himself.
Tämän levyn hitit on ennestään tuttuja, oma suosikkini on ”Satellite Of Love”. Ihan kelpo levy.
Favorite track: Walk On The Wild Side
11 songs, 36min Vicious: 3/5 Andys Chest: 3.5/5 Perfect Day: 4/5
he sings about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. pretty amazing.
What an odd record. 200 albums ago, I think I would have hated this. But I’ve grown to appreciate weird, off the wall personalities and albums while working through this list. It’s still not my favorite, but I was entertained quite a bit.
Good album and enjoyed a few songs on the album. Can here some Bowie influence in some of the songs. Some good lyrics and great voice.
This has some great songs and a few that really drag it down. I do generally like Lou Reed and this was still a good listen. 3.5/5
Better than I was expecting and also more eclectic.
By far the most coherent and musically successful of Lou Reed’s solo efforts.
Am I at a circus? Is the Romani woman distracting me so her cousin can steal my horse?
not really my thing i think. there are a couple slower songs that i like a little more than the other, but i dont think i will ever have the desire to listen to this again. its overall boring, but i am not a fan of the genre. perfect day is probably my favorite song on the album.
not what I expected.
If Lou Reed ever did anything truly great, it’s probably on this album. He seems to me an artist who is heavily influenced by the company he keeps for better or worse. During this phase of his career, he was hanging out with the right dudes. Together they had or helped the genius to lift his sometimes juvenile two-chord excursions up to sublime textural masterpieces. Perhaps this is Lou Reed’s true genius and perhaps a bit of his folly. He one cool ass muthafucka. He’s so cool that fucking Bowie wanted to sing backup on his album. In the end though they can’t save him from himself. There are songs here that are just wrong. I don’t get why some songs were treated like circus music that make his droll delivery sorta laughable. Juxtaposed against cultural touchstones like Walk On The Wild Side makes for an uneven affair.
sehr cool, viele starke Melodien. 7/10
3.9/5
I enjoyed this more than I expected. Though he drones on with the vocals at points, the instrumentation is great enough for the tone and overall mood. Though the album had many tracks that were just average for me, it was a very cohesive project. Overall score-Light 6
I like it well enough. Shit gets a little too weird for me at times, but it’s an overall interesting album.
While I am not the biggest Lou Reed or Velvet Underground fan, I didn't find anything wrong with this album. I enjoyed the variety of style and for a Reed project the musicianship was high.
Transformer was a good album, had catchy beats and the singing is pleasing, however it is unfortunately just a little boring compared to stuff I usually listen to. I would maybe put it on in the background if i was hanging with some friends, but I doubt I will actively again. Standout songs are Vicious, Perfect day, and Take a walk on the wild side, with Perfect day probably being my favorite.
Transformer has some great songs, but also enough middling ones to bring its overall quality down. "Perfect Day" is beautifully insincere and detached, "Walk on the Wild Side" has tons of swagger, and "Satellite of Love" is a tender ballad with a jarring bridge. Much of the rest puts a glam rock spin on the choppy rock Reed made in the Velvet Underground, with sometimes confounding results. While Vicious recalls Bowie's best work, "Andy's Chest" is spoiled by distractingly nonsensical lyrics. Overall, the glam stuff never feels as loose as the rest of the genre. And while I typically like Reed's deadpan style, it gets annoying on "New York Telephone Conversation" (most of the second half of this is pretty inessential). There are some good elements here, but it doesn't quite come together.
Much more enjoyable musically than the Velvet Underground albums I have listened to. Always been a fan of Walk on the Wild Side so I was very curious what other songs would be on an album with a weird track like that one. Turns out its a bunch of weird songs with soft rock/ Bowie influenced style and that's great. I want to spend more time with the lyrics and let them simmer in my head but for now I'll stick with what stood out to me, Vicious, Perfect Day, Satellite of Love, I'm So Free.
Very good
I like Lou Reed, and there are some good tracks, but overall too hit or miss for me.
I wouldn't say Im the biggest Velvet Underground fan, but I do enjoy the lyricism and soft nature of most of the tunes. This album was similar and I had a nice time. Interesting dude.
seems to be a chill-soft rock album pushing weird lyrics of the 70s. Definitely feels like I'm hopping into a stoners time capsule lol
Soundtrack para tus 30s o algo así
It was alright. I don’t know that I would listen to it again but it had some interesting moments. Can’t say I’ve heard tuba played on a rock album before; I also enjoyed the jazz/ show tune influences throughout. Singing was fine but the delivery was lack luster, that’s probably the charm but I just didn’t care for it.
Produced by Bowie, Lou reed’s second solo album definitely shows the influence. The vocal production is very Bowie with the dreamy overdubbed delay sound, and the mixture of piano and rock is too. “Hangin around”, “perfect day”, and “satellite of love” also particularly sound like Bowie songs from both production and lyrical standpoints. Lou will show up again later I’m sure with the velvet underground, but this is a very accessible 70s pop cut that I hear lots of later influence in. Its funny, clever, weird, and sexual all at the same time, I get why it’s remembered fondly. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good album, but never quite understood why it was considered so great.
fun!
Walk On the Wild Side underlines the significance this album had on rock music. Unfortunately, the vocals were pretty much just talking instead of actual singing. I don't typically like rounding up purely based on its influence, but the album feels important enough and its best single feels successful enough to be nothing less than a 3.
I last listened to this about 25 years ago. It’s aged better than me. Upbeat but if you listen to the lyrics there is real depth. Lou has such a distinctive voice. A great album.
Not really my thing too slow and a bit boring. Like a few of the hits, some I didn’t know he sang 2/5
Will I get canceled if I say this album is very average? Cancel me… 3.0
Meh
Alright
Post-Velvets what can you do? Bring on Bowie and Ronson of course. I love the glam guitar chug of Vicious and Hanging Around, and the melodic minimal pop of Walk on the Wild Side or even Perfect Day, but some of this is too cute or not great. Still, post-Velvets, what can you do?
Snarky and cooler than cool. Lou Reed being himself and channeling early 70s New York.
Interesting sound. Some tracks stood out.
Man, this is a tough one. This album has one of the finest songs ever written (Perfect Day), but for me, has some pretty filler songs too. The Bowie and Robson effect clearly elevate it and stamp it's place in history. But it still feels a bit over rated in general. A good album, that is touched by greatness perhaps?
283/1089 getting the idea pretty quickly that this is fine/good but just not for me Walk on the Wild Side is one i’ve heard in some part before and it’s still really good, the bass is just so warm and welcoming. i can hear Life is Strange and Haim in here so clearly just realised i had it on shuffle somehow, well… that’s annoying but easily sorted it’s a decent album, i think it existing led to similar music that i prefer so i’m grateful for it even if i don’t love a lot of it faves: Walk on the Wild Side is GREAT, Satellite of Love is also v good 54/100
Iha kiva 3/5
Album was nice, no song was anything amazing, but they all sound good
it's kind of gung-ho in a heroin way honestly find it mildly disgusting ? not in a bad way but i don't particularly enjoy it - reminds me of a coffee with 5 sugars (enjoyed best when stoned, in withdrawal, or 13 years old)
ok ladny ten typ
6/10 This is the Lou Reed album that people always cite as his best solo work, so it’s an intriguing prospect. Glancing at the track list, there are a couple of obvious classics in there, but plenty that I’m unfamiliar with to get my teeth into. One of the most obvious standouts here is the guitar work of Mick Ronson who, within months of recording Ziggy Stardust, had seemingly carried his entire recording chain more or less as-was, straight into the studio with Lou Reed and carried on working. The guitar work is fantastic, but the fact that there are a bunch of tracks on here that sound like outtakes from the Ziggy Stardust sessions does make it sound a little derivative. And when you’re replacing the enigmatic, charismatic delivery of David Bowie with the everyman, folksy vocals of Lou Reed, it does sort of pale in comparison. While the glam rock stuff on here is decent enough, but hardly spectacular, the highlights are really the areas where he dips into a more stripped back style, with Perfect Day, Walk On The Wild Side and Satellite Of Love. It’s here that his folksy delivery, ear for a melody and approach to both every day life and counter-culture collide into some really special pieces of music. But that’s the strange thing about this album for me. While there are moments of excellence, there are also moments that are incredibly odd. Not odd in a “breaking the boundaries of sound” way like Velvet Underground, but odd in a “why are you recording music hall songs on your glam rock album?” way. It’s a really strange set of choices, almost like he’d had the ideas for three albums, written 3-4 tracks for each, run out of steam and then just lumped them together onto one record. Every single bit of it is competently delivered, the playing is all excellent, the production is great, with some interesting and quirky choices that help elevate the work in places and get out of the way to let the music do the talking in others. But it just feels slightly weird and unbalanced. Lou Reed has always been regarded as a pioneer and innovator, so it seems very strange to me that this, his most lauded album, contains such derivative, if well executed, work. The outsider folk anthems are absolutely fantastic, but aside from that, it’s all just a bit meh. Which is a massive shame. Vicious - There’s something quite endearing about this, despite the fact that it’s quite rhythmically flat. And by that, I mean that one of the key parts of the drum beat sounds exactly like a metronome that ticks its way through the whole song. It also doesn’t really offer much structural range or development. Some of the more experimental sonic edges to it add extra depth and I quite like his laissez faire vocal delivery, but it’s not necessarily the most interesting of tracks. Andy's Chest - I quite like the groove to this. It has a bit more development and interest to its structure and blends swagger well with the folksy delivery that Reed sings with. I noticed it a little in the opener, but Mick Ronson’s guitar is so obviously him here that it sounds like he’s literally just finished tracking for Ziggy Stardust and then recorded this through the same recording setup. There are some great moments in the production, like the “rock, rock” vocal in the outro. Nice to hear Bowie on backing vocals too. I enjoyed this one and it was pretty good, but it’s also put me in the mood to listen to Ziggy Stardust now. Perfect Day - This is a really beautiful and subtle pop song. The use of a minor key set against the lyrical content gives it a really wistful air of nostalgia, with the brief lift into major tonality during the choruses giving that edge of hope. It’s very simple, but that’s part of why it works so well. His everyman vocal delivery helps to give this more power too, I think. It has been over-covered and overplayed, but it’s a great song. Hangin' Round - More incredibly obvious Mick Ronson guitar here. Tonally, this is really cool and definitely leans heavily into Bowie’s glam rock sound of the time. Unfortunately, that is somewhat to it’s detriment, because this sounds so Ziggy-era Bowie that it sounds almost like it could have been a track that wasn’t quite good enough for Bowie, sung by someone who, while his voice works for some things, doesn’t have the musical control and charisma to really connect with this like the man himself. But it’s still a good song. Walk On The Wild Side - The dual bass lines in this are iconic. It’s a brilliant counter-culture anthem, discussing characters that even today are on the fringes of society. The production choices, particularly the backing vocals gradually pushing forward in the mix and having the reverb removed as it happens are really cool. Again, it’s a pretty simple track, but it packs in a lot of feeling and power and is a classic for a reason. Make Up - This is a bit more plodding and almost has an edge of music hall about it. It’s a little quirky and fun, but it feels a bit lacking in musical substance, almost feeling a bit like a novelty song, with the tuba bass line really not helping. I don’t dislike it, but it it’s also just too throwaway for me. Satellite Of Love - The piano playing and production here are lovely, and I think the pre-chorus is excellent. It’s got a delightful edge of quirkiness to it and the messing around with instrumentation and production styles in places gives it extra depth and quality. The lazy swagger to the groove is great too. Another solid track. Wagon Wheel - Now we’re leaning into a bit of a T-Rex sound for the guitar. There are some really cool moments in this, but it feels a tad disorganised and rambling, getting a little bit lost when it goes off piste. It’s weird, because it’s not bad, but it feels both unfocused and, at its core, musically underdeveloped at the same time. Strange. Again, it’s still decent, but not a highlight either. New York Telephone Conversation - Similarly to Make Up, this is almost music hall in sound and just feels a bit weird, but not in a good way. I'm So Free - Here come’s Ronson’s Ziggy guitar work again. There’s a great groove to this and it’s a solid glam track, but as I’ve mentioned before, I’m not entirely convinced that Reed’s vocal style works with this type of clean and harmonically tight material and it feels like it could have been a better track done by Bowie or Bolan. The actual track itself is pretty decent, if unspectacular compared to the very best of glam. Goodnight Ladies - To close out the album we get a reprise of sorts to Make Up. It’s quite meandering and, even though the jazzy bits are quite cool, it feels a very odd stylistic choice. I don’t really understand these tracks as they fell like a pastiche of variety music from 60 odd years prior. Very strange and a little bit pointless.
Muy americano
One of my all time problems with Lou is that I just don’t believe him. We’re listening to a guy who hates himself while styling himself as the coolest guy alive, but tripping all over it because he hates himself and definitely hates you, too. But, fantastic songwriter and had Bowie handled more than production, etc, and made this his own record and used Lou as a co-songwriter off and on for the next 30 years, we could’ve had quite a run. Great ATCQ sample.
Stuff of legends. Hadn’t heard the whole thing before. Some better than the others but I enjoyed it
he can’t sing and some of his lyrics are dodgy but this album is great overall. Proof that he was wasted in the velvet underground.
I haven’t heard much Lou Reed but I enjoyed his album Berlin. I think this is the one before and I imagine it’s alot more accessible. 3.6/5.0
Chill ass album to play golf too. Nothing crazy or special and pretty forgettable but it was a nice listen Fav Song: Walk On The Wild Side 6.5/10
A couple of GOATs on here. Never been the biggest fan. Enjoyable.
Wish this did more for me.
I love his voice and I love walk on the wild side but this was so so for me. I think it’s an important album but not my favorite.
I liked it, interesting guy!
The hits carried the misses.
5/10
I’ve never been a fan of the Velvet Underground or Lou Reed. I didn’t hate this, but I’m not coming away with new favourites. 3/5
Lou Reed is verrry very popular in the office, and with most of the songs I now understand why. Sometimes the speak-singing shtick really drives me up the wall, though (goes for everyone not just Reed).
One of those classic albums that does NOT sound like the cover. You'd expect some rock, but then you get Walk On The Wild Side - a pretty chilled out song - and Perfect Day which is pretty much a ballad (not to say these aren't great songs). Rest of the album is alright, but it just can't compare to the best of Velvet Underground Bit shocked that this came out in 1972 actually, I kind of had it pegged as an 80s album for some reason?
Heard perfect day like 100 times already, and walk on the wild side is obvs a tune The rest of the album could grow on me but doesn’t seem anything all that special either 3.5
I was going to say this album sounded good, but then I heard Walk on the Wild Side and decided I hate that song and it ruined the rest of the album for me. It sounds good, but at the same time it sounds bad, it's hard to explain.
My enjoyment of this album shifted a lot during my listen with some very high highs and very meh lows. Reed's voice leans monotone in quite a few tracks, which made them a bit boring, but that's not always the case. Sometimes, in songs like Wagon Wheel, it's far more exciting and dynamic. Plus, the most well-known song on the album, Walk On the Wild Side, is one of the worst offenders of the monotone sound and manages to not be all that bad because of the lyrics and guitar. I wouldn't describe this as my favorite kind of album to listen to, but I did feel it was properly balanced and was moderately enjoyable.
Top Songs: Perfect Day I'm So Free
Bangers: walk on the wild side of life, perfect day. Okay: satellite of love, NY telephone conversation
Toisella sooloalbumillaan Lou Reed pääsi pois The Velvet Undergroundin varjosta ja tuottajina toimineet David Bowie ja hänen silloinen kitaristinsa Mick Ronson toivat Reedin uuden yleisön tietoisuuteen. Transformer-levyltä löytyykin Reedin tunnetuimmat kappaleet Walk on the Wild Side, Satellite of Love ja Trainspotting-elokuvassa ikimuistoisesti käytetty Perfect Day.

I love the Velvet Underground and David Bowie, but I can’t make myself love Lou Reed.
Huh, this wasn't horrible. Track I liked: perfect day. Make up reminded me of tv girl. Would I revisit this: nah.
