kind of revived a whole showgirl genre, credit where credit is due. I personally don't care about this album, but i do recognize it's placement.

The title of this album comes from Adele's love of blackjack. She's been banned from most major casinos because her ability to count cards. Seriously, what a voice! A well-produced album that captures a mature beyond her years pop sensibility.

This album came out when I was in high school. We had to go to an assembly where my Integrated Sciences teacher and 6 students got on stage and danced to Rolling in the Deep, and then we just went back to class. Might've given it a 5 but Rumour Has It brings it down a star

God damn it, i enjoyed this. Its manufactured and coded to press all the big emotional buttons in a very unsubtle way but it works. The singles are bangers, the album tracks dont dip in quality, she has a banging voice and I now hate men. Job well done Adele.

Probably inflated by nostalgia, but there’s still some real strong pop songs on this album. There’s not much variety on it though, so it feels longer than it is. If I could do half points it would probably be a 3.5.

Might not be my thing, but you can't deny it's a good album. I remember when it launched you would listen to songs like - Rolling in the Deep, Set Fire to The Rain, Rumor Has It, Someone Like You - over and over again in the radio.

#6 An album full of basic piano ballads about heartbreak but at the same time they're also good? Of course the whole thing here has mainstream pop kinda vibe but there's also something pure? I wonder what Adele could do if she was so much more open to making more unique sounding music. Or maybe her label just has preferences, idk.

I don't remember another artists/album in the 2010's that had as much universal acclaim and radio play as Adele did with this album. I'm sure there are those that hate it (or grew to hate it as it got played to death… 3 tracks have over 2 BILLION STREAMS for christ's sake), but there was a time when this album was absolutely inescapable…and for good reason. It's a special kind of album that's built for mass appeal without ever seeming trite or inauthentic or over-produced. And what a voice! I know there have always been comparisons to Amy Winehouse, but as much as I love Amy, they're certainly different artists and she never quite had pipes like these. If you ignore the fact that you've probably heard every track on this album a million times, and try to listen with fresh ears… it's a great album. 4/5 Highlights: Rolling in the Deep Turning Tables Set Fire to the Rain Someone Like You

Adele was originally just another in a series of post-Amy Wine house British soul revivalists, together with singers like Duffy, Paloma Faith, or Gabriela Cilmi, but I'd say her foremother is in fact Céline Dion. That style of big emotional Adult Contemporary ballad that hits all the star notes is very reminiscent of Dion, and that would become even more apperant in Adele's next album. 21 is her big blockbuster moment. The acoustic guitar-led bedroom laments that characterized her early songs is mostly absent, leaving only the pretty good Cure cover "Lovesong". Elsewhere we get mostly slow piano ballads and the occasional relatively uptempo track like the modern classic "Rolling in the Deep" and its following track "Rumor Has It". I must say, as far as the mainstream is concerned, this is a darn good album. Timeless, too. It could have been released now, or twenty year prior. Confesso que quando vi que o desafio era ouvir um álbum da Adele, já desanimei. Nunca tinha escutado um disco dela do começo ao fim, só os hits de rádio — alguns insuportavelmente chicletes. E justamente aqui estão três dos maiores: Rolling in the Deep, uma ótima abertura e surpreendentemente longe de ser irritante; Set Fire to the Rain, um pouco menos interessante; e a insuportável Someone Like You, que, graças a Deus, ficou por último. Mas, como álbum, 21 me agradou bastante. Adele consegue equilibrar bem a melancolia com momentos mais ritmados, passeando pelo jazz e por uma sonoridade pop mais sofisticada, sem transformar tudo em piano e choradeira. E, claro, a voz espetacular dela amarra tudo muito bem. Curiosamente, gostei muito mais das faixas que não são singles. No fim, valeu a pena não pular o disco: 21 é um ótimo álbum da Adele, bem mais interessante do que eu esperava.

Adele reminds me so much of high school, which is the time she really blew up. I knew the hits on this one, but enjoyed some I had never heard before (He Won’t Go, I Found a Boy, and her Lovesong cover).

A very good and consistent pop album. The three most popular tracks "Rolling in the Deep", "Set Fire to the Rain", and "Someone Like You" are still great, albeit "Rolling in the Deep" has lost some of its charm after being played so often over the years. My favorite track is "Someone Like You", but my sleeper pick is "He Won't Go".

Most songs are just boring, middle of the road... Half an extra star for the amazing vocal performance and half an extra star for Set Fire to the rain.

Young love can lead to intense emotions. Young love lost? That leads to emotions that are ten times stronger. And those emotions shine through here extremely powerfully. Some absolutely enormous hits here. But also a few kind of unremarkable songs. The tracks which were released as singles, and saw widespread radio play, stand head and shoulders above the rest. It's like there's a few legendary tracks, and the rest is filler? It's not bad, but it's just ok. In a way, I'm also a bit confused by the general direction this was taking. It seemed to oscillate between modern, and 70s. It just made the album hard to follow. The wonderful songs which made it as singles push this into the 4 star area. But the rest weigh it down, and keep it from rising above that level.

Honestly, I was in no mood to listen to a whole Adele album (I never really cared for her music, but obviously knew the hits and could appreciate the talent). This was an enjoyable listen! So well produced for 2011, easily on par if not better than what we´re getting in the big 2026.

The Good: Ahhh, to be 21 again… The Bad: 21 did come with some mayor issues… cashflow, being one of them The Ugly: The poor breakup Adele seems charged with… Believe it or not, it has taken me 15 years to listen to this album for the first time… and it was well worth the wait. To think that according to my experience there hasn’t been anything decent produced since the 2000s showed it’s face—barring some exceptions obviously—and then you finally listen to this more than excellent freshmen attempt. Bravo, Adele, bravo. I listened to the album two times in a row, and couldn’t find a song I disliked, at all… wow. You’d think that I would instantly give this album a 5* rating… but you’d be thinking wrong. You see… covering a The Cure song… you don’t do that… and then, there is that one excellent song that, for whatever reason, all of a sudden includes a choir… bitch please… Aside from that… wow. 4*

Good album

Relisten. This is a tough one to objectively rate since the album and, more specifically, the major hits off of it were always in the background in some way growing up. Especially since my mom and sister were such big fans. It has been a long time since I've listened to some of these songs, and I'm inclined to say they hold up pretty well. I'm kind of exhausted by a few, but that is none of the actual songs fault, and more to do with the insane amount of airplay they got in the early 2010s. I found myself really gravitating to the less talked about ones way more. Fav Tracks: "Rolling in the Deep", "I'll Be Waiting" and "Lovesong".

The nostalgia of her voice makes this so easy to love

Brilliant voice. Of course, I’m familiar with her, but when an artist becomes as massive in the mainstream as she did, I tend to lose interest and move on to other things. So, I’ve never actually listened to her full albums, though I’d never turn the radio off if she came on. At a certain point, that was practically impossible anyway, as Adele was on the radio and in the media on a daily basis. So now I took the time to listen to the full album from start to finish. It sounds really amazing and pure. Beautiful carved instrumental arrangements are guiding a great voice. Also, what a surprisingly great cover of The Cure's "Lovesong" 4/5

Adelle's voice is absolutely stunning, and even on those tracks where the music doesn't particularly impress, her range and timbre are incredible to behold. To think that she recorded this album at the age of 21 is absolutely incredible, and as someone who owns and has burned out on each of her records in turn, this one stands as my personal favorite. It's a strong 4/5 from me that I was pretty happy to revisit after a long reprieve.

This album has such a strong start; I like Rolling in the Deep a lot despite having heard it so many times. I'm on the third track of the album, Turning Tables, and her vocals are particularly nice here. It's not her most vocally demanding song, but I like how much her voice carries. The double meaning for her having an unstable partner, constantly arguing, and her wanting to turn the page and start afresh. Don't you remember is so me in almost every way. She's almost begging and pleading for him to remember her once more. I understand that completely, wanting someone you've shared something with to remember you :/ The 6th song from the album (I don't remember the title) is one of my favorites; I like the instrumental; it sounds very groovy to me, like sitting in the corner of the room at a coffee shop and overthinking a relationship or situation in general. It's a little sad but with a more upbeat sound to it. It also sounds different from the other songs I've heard so far. I'll Be Waiting is very telling to me as to how it's not as comfortable to see a woman yearning for a man to love her back as it is for a man. I like overlapping vocals in songs, so One and Only is one of my favorites from the album. I love the exaggerated rasp and power in her voice; it's a song of acceptance, and she expresses the feeling of being sick and tired well. Final Verdict: I'm not 21, and I haven't gone through the trials and tribulations of being in a relationship presented as such, but there are some bits and pieces that I relate to. She's very down-to-earth and emotional here. It has so much emotion and conviction, beautiful from start to finish.

Hard to listen to as even as the a most casual music listener, some of these songs have been overplayed. Still her voice is great, the songs are well written and let her shine. Good album. 4 out of 5.

Incredible album, her voice is very inspiring and her songs are very impactful. This album proves her songwriting ability and the careful selection of songs. The music is amazing and there's no comparison.

It’s funny how I was so aware of this record’s success in 2011 and 2012 but just never gave it a shot. Basically this set the tone for the female pop belters of the 2010s and I guess I can tell I’m entering my late 30s since I was vibing with it in a Starbucks radio sort of way. Minus a star because Apple Music autoplayed me a terrible Ed Sheeran song right afterwards.

Nice album - some pop classics of the 2010-era. Always enjoyed her passion and delivery on the ubiquitous hits. The non-radio tracks bring it down just a notch for me.

Okay, "Rolling in the Deep." A banger. No two ways about it. To the point where I delayed finishing the album because I kept listening to this opening track on repeat. I had to force myself to go to the second track. How does the rest of the album stack up? Incredibly well honestly. Talking about blue-eyed soul seems an anachronism by the standards of a very integrated international music scene, but just as it's not possible to talk about Parliament without talking about the historic fortunes of funk (see previous review) it seems to me that we have to contend with what soul music has meant in a specific context of a historically black American genre faring in a white British context. It seems to me significant that 21 came out just seven months after the death of Amy Winehouse. Not because Adele and Amy were ever really "in competition" (though the misogynistic music industry will always seek to pit women artists against each other). But it's not just the sudden departure of Winehouse that allowed Adele to snatch the crown of Queen of British soul. This is a soul album, but it's definitely a pop album too. 2008s's 19 had been much more of an exercise in the vein of Winehouse and co. In Adele's mind, 21 had to be like it but different, so much more itself that it reached new heights. So yes, soul, but mixed with a pop sensibility that sought to modernize it, drawing in singer-songwriter folkiness and more current R&B. To bring the "blue-eyed soul" paradigm out of the nostalgic longing for long-shuttered clubs like the Twisted Wheel in Manchester and Blackpool Mecca and Wigan Casino and into a contemporary timeline. And yes, bring in something a little bit more, for lack of a better term, feminist. The personal valence is well-known by now: she had been dating an older man, and after a breakup Adele channeled her heartbreak into the album's composition. Whatever else can be said about her as a songwriter, nobody could ever accuse her of being anything other than fearlessly vulnerable. "Rumour Has It," another banger and strikes a pose regarding younger women and older men that wouldn't have been thinkable in the 70s. "Turning Tables," "Set Fire to the Rain," the stunning closer "Someone Like You." These are all instantly recognizable. So why is this album simply four and a half stars instead of a full five? It comes down to the context, yet again, and what 21 represented for the trajectory of British soul. Yes, it was a modernization, but a modernization that allowed the sound to be metabolized into a general pop landscape that was, by the mid 2010's accelerating its homogenization. Adele herself became one of the world's best-selling artists. As for the blue-eyed soul torch she had been past, it had been taken out of the fading memories of Wigan Casino and Blackpool Mecca and into Las Vegas residencies. The specificity of a music, of a sound, was lost. Not entirely Adele's fault, not even primarily. But nonetheless, it's what the album came to represent.

Third second pass in a row, but it didn't matter much for this one. I bopped to this album quite a bit when it came out. 15 years later, sure, it's not groundbreaking. Still sounds good though. (I like 19 better).

Great often, but it does get very ballady by the end, and some of them aren't as strong as others. We run into an issue of the album sounding a bit one note. But there highlights, like Romling in the Deep, the sound of her voice at the get go is booming and full of emotion and I was thoroughly impressed. It is also not revolutionary, but not everything has to be to be good.

Many things have been written about this record in particular. But looking back to it, there it's still something special about it 15 years later. The truth it is indeed, that Adele knew how to capture the young angst and bitterness that comes after a breakup in such a special way that no matter how much has passed by, anthems like Rolling in The Deep, Rumour Has It and Someone Like You still makes it into radio and still makes it into the memory of a lot of fans. She it's certainly not the same young adult she was back then, but fortunately for her, she was fortunate enough to find out this earlier in her carreer some of the heavyweights in music industry and wrote these collection of songs with some of the greatest producers like Rick Rubin, Ryan Tedder from One Republic, and even Dan Wilson from Semisonic. The whole crew brought her massively talented heart and spirit and gave her voice a special place that has kept evolving through the years. Heavily influenced by folk and Motown Soul but also in country and blues the direction of the record it's absolutely different to his predecesor 19, Yet the arrangements are so well crafted that even the version from Lovesong (originally by The Cure) doesn't seem to be out of place and has its own way in this anthology of sounds that feels more like a balm for the soul rather than a pop album. Probably if it weren't for that breakup who knows where this album would be. Maybe lost in time and space. Fortunately for us, Adele also evolved as a person, and the maturity she gained with this record has been a crucial part for her carreer to the point that, just like all of these melodies, she has aged like a fine wine and 15 years later we still keep singing these songs like they are part of our own deepest sensations.

I recognized so many songs! I just realized this is the album she released when she was 21... so impressive. Very expressive vocals, but each song sounded the same and blended together. Only one of them stood out as different; One and Only. It sounded like the end of a movie song.

Loved this album! I’ve never listened to it fully- mostly just heard the hits, but I added almost every song to my liked songs!

(Light 8/10) Admittedly I never got on the Adele hype train, the lead singles off of this record were EVERYWHERE on pop radio in 2012 and my music tastes back then were much more limited than they are today. I was so tired of these singles and I just wrote her off as a "here and gone" kinda one trick pony that I would hopefully forget about and move on. Well, 25 came around and Hello had it's time in the sun, and for me the song was kind of a meme and at this point in my time I wasn't ready to give her a chance yet. Fast forward to her release of 30 this year, my taste in pop and singer/songwriter has grown considerably, and as fortune would have it I absolutely adored it. So hey why not.. it's been long enough. I returned to her Breakthrough album 21 in hopes that I would get it. Boy did I! It opens up with her biggest single, Rolling in the deep. A monumentous song with dramatic vocals, a powerful hook and such pain-soaked lyrics that Alanis Morisette would give a thumbs up to. By far the best song on the record for sure, but hey the next track is incredible as well. Rumour Has It is a stomping rollicking sass-monster of a song with superb backing instrumentation and a hook that won't leave your head. This one-two punch of a beginning is hard to beat when considering album flow. The 3rd track Turning Tables does essentially what the title hints at, and brings the record to a 180⁰ and slows it down a bit with a piano ballad that is quite effective but honestly kinda here-and-gone. I much prefer Don't You Remember as it is way more catchy and has a better energy behind it. This album is very well constructed, Set Fire to The Rain makes Rolling look like child's play in terms of grandiosity. The album reaches it's emotional peak right in here in the middle, as Adele's most lavish and grand performance takes hold. It's build up and release is perfection and makes for a serious highlight to the album. The mood does take a gradual downward slope from here on out, but don't discount tracks like He Won't Go and One and Only. While not as grand instrumentally, the lyrics and craftsmanship in the songs themselves are more than satisfying and provide a great latter half. The only questionable choice in my opinion is the cover here. Her rendition of Lovesong by The Cure is actually pretty nice, but in terms of inclusion on the album it seems kinda out of place.. it really could be omitted. The final song is also a massive hit and it's the melancholy, yet optimistic Someone Like You. A stripped back ballad, just piano and her voice, but it is wonderful. A great example of how great her voice is, how she's able to carry emotion on top of being a stellar vocalist, and it rounds out the album just fine. A solid finish and a satisfying ending. Overall, I enjoyed this a lot more than expected, and I feel years from not being over-exposed did the trick and helped me understand just why she's a huge deal. It's a record full of personal struggles and love-sick emotions. A break-up album to contend with the classic break-up albums. If it weren't for the oddly-placed cover song, this record could be a higher score for me. Still, I do highly recommend this.

I remember when this FIRST came out, and sometime in March 2011 I heard an interview with some song clips on I think NPR, and I wrote down the singer's name so I could look her up. Suffice to say, I had no problem remembering her by April. This was my first time listening to the entire album, and while I think the singles were the best songs on it, the rest of them would have been just as famous if "Rolling," "Rumour," and "Someone" were not on it.

Simple progressions and melodies and songs that still really pluck the hearrtstrings. Adele's voice is gritty yet polished, her voice is absolutely heartbreaking. Lot's of bangers on this album that I have heard before, yet a handful that are in steady rotation on the radio or streaming.

I’m trying to review this through the lens of someone who is clearly not the archetype Adelle fan, but who can spot a good song when they hear it. This takes most of those boxes, yes it wanders into soppy love song territory too often for my liking, but mostly the songwriting is very solid, and very soulful, with some of the tracks being modern pop classics. Adelle’s voice is immense on this album, it has to be appreciated just how strong she is vocally. Definitely good enough all round to score a four from me, despite the fact I’m pretty sure I’ll never actively listen to it again.

Album startet sehr stark, hervorragender Gesang, großartige Produktion, wirklich rundum ein Beispiel für "Kunst kommt von Können" und eine Wohltat nach so viel Grunge/90s Alt Rock/Post Punk, der ja vor allem von der demonstrativen Attitüde lebt, dass man auf seine eigene Musik scheißt. Aber! Am Ende ist es mir zu Pop in der Masse der Lieder. Zu glatt, zu gefällig. Geradezu retro im Stil (was hat dieses Album NEUES gebracht?) Für die perfekte Ausführung davon immernoch solide 4*

an amazing point in time for music. 21 didn't sound like anything out there and there's still nothing quite like it. so many of these songs were in heavy rotation on the radio, in stores, in cafes. iconic I do think that some songs are better than others. not every track is perfect or worthy of 5 stars so this is a 4 star album to me

Damn I hate her subject matter but this woman can sing! She has this beautiful raspiness to her vocals it is really pretty and she sings with great emotion. It is really a great soulful blues album, but not something I am going to buy or replay a lot.

An extremely niche game I play sometimes is matching up popstar careers and NBA careers. Taylor Swift is LeBron - teenage wunderkinds turned cultural Main Characters who seemingly succeed constantly but are most interesting when they fail. Beyonce is Kobe - all-time greats by virtue of their sheer insistence on being seen as such, and whose status as arbiters of Realness is less stable than it appears. Britney is Allen Iverson - enormously important cultural symbols, and we're also still on some level arguing about whether they were ever actually good. Ariana Grande is Kevin Durant - destined to be known for both transcendently pure talent and a preternatural ability to create drama and leave emotional wreckage wherever they go. And so forth.^ Adele is Tim Duncan, which at first sounds like an insult - nobody aspires to be Tim Duncan. Outside of central Texas, Tim Duncan was not a cool player. His signature move was a bank shot off the glass. Tim Duncan was your granddad's favorite player because he "played the right way." Tim Duncan also won. A lot. More than Kobe and LeBron, depending on how you define winning. Hopefully the parallels to Adele are apparent at this point. She's perhaps the least flashy popstar of the 21st century, eschewing the trappings of the Greater Madonna Diaspora (synth-driven compositions, group dance numbers, explicitly sexual provocation) in favor of live instrumentation (or as much as that can be a thing in the Pro Tools era, anyway), unabashedly old-fashioned songwriting, and her powerhouse soul voice. She's her generation's Dusty, with designs on being her generation's Aretha. And the craziest thing is how understated it all seems; she seems to be just doing what she normally does and then you look up at the scoreboard and she has 30 and 15, so to speak. Of course I'm familiar with Adele's panoply of hits - "Rolling in the Deep" is one of the last great female-driven *rock* songs to become a hit maybe ever, and the other singles aren't far behind. But I did not expect this whole album to work as well as it does. I typically like my pop more of the power variety, and while I understand the impulse to go "stripped down" (scare quotes intentional) from a production standpoint I can't shake the feeling that a little more sonic variation is needed here; parts of this could have used a more authentically primitivist, less audibly digital approach. But if that's my biggest criticism then there's a lot of success happening. Even the album tracks are strong; "One and Only" is a gem, with a grand and moving coda that pushes the song into Stones/London Bach Choir territory. And her cover of the Cure's "Lovesong" turns gracefully inward on itself, becoming a Nineties lounge-R&B tune that wouldn't have been out of place on a Braxton or Blige album. In the years since *21* it's become somewhat fashionable to mock Adele for making an album that everyone's grandparents bought; some of that is probably sour grapes at the fact that she made way more money from her sales than did streaming-centric artists with similar numbers, but more fundamentally it's unfair to judge her by the same standards as her pop contemporaries. She was going for something timeless, and I think she succeeded. This is about the best classic Motown R&B album it was possible to make in 2011. Sometimes the olds are right. ^Why yes, I do have a bunch of Chuck Klosterman books on my shelf, why do you ask?

You can’t beat a bit of Adele such a bop in the shower. Her voice is just incredible and the lyrics are so catchy.

I really enjoyed returning to 21! It had been a hot minute since I’d listened to any Adele to be frank, but this album is still that good. I immediately followed in up with 19, because for some reason I thought that was the “better” album, but 21 blows it out of the water.

don't think I've ever listened to an Adele album in full before so this was pretty cool! You don't need me to say that the songs are pretty good and sound equally great in 2026 as 2011. Gotta shout out Rumour Has It as probably the most interesting and fun track here, and also the middle of One and Only really impressed me. I also just think it's hard to beat the power of Rolling In The Deep as a tidal wave of a song. It is a lot of similar sounding and paced songs in a row, though

Pretty good

I listened to Adele's *21* this morning. Some of the tracks sounded familiar; they are great pop songs. Her voice sounds damn good, and the strings give the music wonderful depth. I really like the track "Don't You Remember" because of the sighing guitar. I wouldn't say the album is going to become one of my favorites, but it makes for very enjoyable listening.

I enjoyed this album much more than I anticipated (the joy of 1001). Her version of Longsong reveals similarities with Robert Smith, evident in her song writing - beauty in pain and sadness. An unexpected 4 stars.

So much emotion and soul!

I really loved this album at one time. I am not sure it has aged well. Adele’s voice is beautiful but already showing strain from improper use. The endless big songs of heartbreak that used to move me feel less full and too careful in their production. I love her cover of Lovesong, but it reminds me that Robert Smith is a consummate song writer and Adele is a… vocalist with a largely untrained instrument. But then… the closer. Someone Like You is a great song. For me, this song is worth a lot of slosh. It’s probably on my list of all time greats/ best songs of all time. I’ve never experienced first hand its sorrow, none the less, it brings tears to my eyes every time. It stands well against the cover of Lovesong. The two together end the album in an amazing way. And this is, perhaps, the high point of Adele’s creativity. At 21. 4 Boolean: True

I actually think that I've never heard this album in its entirety. Though most of the songs are recognisable, still some feel new. A highlight for me is "Don't you remember". What a track. And of course a cover of The Cure and a good one at that. Yeah, this is gonna be a 4.0 for me.

Listen, I had this entire record to prepare for “Someone Like You”, but it didn’t help. My dog, Caddy, passed away last year at age 13. When he was younger I used to crate him during the day and I always kept a radio on for him. I can’t remember the exact circumstances, but one day I was home and he was in his crate (he hung out there a lot, it was his safe space) and I could hear him howling. I went to investigate and heard this song was on the radio. Interesting. I had no idea he had any proclivities for howling at this point, but as time went on I figured out he did it semi-often and had favorite songs. We made a playlist. “Someone Like You”, “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, and “Come Together” were the first songs. We later added “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay”, and we’d frequently start our weekend mornings with some karaoke. “Someone Like You” always had to be last though, because it put him deep in his feels and he wouldn’t sing anymore after it. Rest In Peace, bubba, I hope we get to do it again someday.

3.5 stars This album has her most well-known songs and what launched her into superstar status overnight. It is well sequenced and doesn’t have a bad song on it. There is clear filler though and some of the middle tracks are just fine. But the she is worth the hype on this album. This is definitely better than many older albums that have stayed on the list, although I believe this was taken off on later editions. They need to have criteria for removing older albums and not replace albums from the last 3 decades exclusively.

I have mixed feelings about this album. I like it and I think it's her best album, but it's not what I usually listen to and the album gets kind of eh towards the end. Overall, a pretty okay album.

I am a little torn on how to rate this. There’s no doubt bout Adele’s voice quality, but some of the songs are quite boring. The pop/neo-soul combination hasn’t been my thing so far. Still, the best songs are good enough and I am feeling nice today.

Good album. The second half has some good deeper cuts. The first half lacks some dynamics, but there are a couple hits there.

i really really love Adele, it‘s just not my kind of music

I don't think of myself as someone who cares much about Adele one way or the other. She seems pretty charming from her late-night appearances. This album, though, is quite impressive. Even the sleepier songs have something interesting going on, and the best of them are straight bangers. I really appreciate her range of genre, which mixes things up a bit.

Adele, why’d you make the chorus to Rumor Has It like that? Most of that song is pretty good, but that chorus is so terrible it ruins the whole song. I really hate that chorus. It’s so bad dude. Most of the album is good but kinda generic. All the hits (besides Rumor Has It 😡) are pretty great, and the album never is bad outside of that. Just a bit bland at times.

O ano que estamos hoje tem a mesma "distância" de quando o álbum foi lançado em relação a quando tu nasceu (já se perdeu, mas pensa). A primeira é clássica, marcou nossa geração com consciência, interessante isso, ter vivido a época que uma música lendária tocou sem parar nas rádios no lançamento. A voz dela é muito foda, bem única. Foda, 3 pedradas no álbum. Excelente álbum, vou dar 4 estrelas pela qualidade absurda. Se eu fosse fã provavelmente chegaria no 5.

Probably doesn't quite escape the charge of being "Amy Winehouse for nice people", but there's no denying the power of her voice, the perìfection of the production and the quality of the songs. On the surface it's full of pretty songs, but there's real anger and strength in them lurking under the surface, the sound of a woman in pain taking back her independence. Sure, at times (Set Fire to the Rain) it goes into melodrama. And perhaps the polish of the sound could have been grittier to match the content. She never reaches Etta James or Sarah Vaughan levels of power for instance. And 11 songs about broken relationships is maybe going on a bit, particularly when it gets a bit mopey towards the end. But it has to be said that Rolling in the Deep makes a brilliant single, Rumour Has It and Someone Like You are astonishing songs and this whole album is a hell of a thing for a 21 year old to produce.

I definitely enjoyed the hits more than the rest of this, but there are beautiful moments throughout this album. I used to love "Rumour Has It," and it still is such a great moment in this record. Adele's voice is so powerful and filled with emotion, and I think that that sets this apart from a lot of the "mainstream" pop (if this really counts as that kind of pop) from this time. I know Mum and Dad won’t be happy with this.. but for me it’s impossible to deny how good Adele is. This has to be her best album too (although I also really enjoy 30, with “Easy On Me” and “I Drink Wine”). It’s almost unfair to finish an album with “Someone Like You” and have it loop back around to a track 1 as good as “Rolling In The Deep”. Those songs are timeless already, but the album tracks here were the most pleasant surprises for me. “Take It All” and “Don’t You Remember” were great.

Just seeing the cover of the album I was reviewing told me I was going to enjoy it. What I didn't know was how many amazing tracks it had. Of course, I'd already heard the iconic "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You," but this album has so much more; it's incredible. I have to admit there were some songs that didn't blow me away, but I enjoyed the album from beginning to end. An album worthy of the amazing singer that Adele is.

beautiful. i’d known of this album because it’s just so iconic, but there’s some deep cuts on there that really stood out like “turning tables”, “don’t you remember”, and “I found a boy”. obviously the popular stuff is very catchy and she has a beautiful voice so it’s just a pretty good album overall. I had a good time listening to it.

Because he gives a fantastic studio-quality live performance here, extremely expressive with an infectious energy which is helped by the backing band. you get a mix of blues and soul here and in theory it’s quite a basic album but Sam just absolutely sells it and elevates it to something great.

Among the most surprising revelations I've found on this list. I obviously knew of Adele, but had never listened to her music. This is a world-class vocalist able to deliver ballads with uncanny emotional resonance along with punchy bluesy numbers. Adele is Dusty Springfield reincarnated. Count me as a fan.

This was an album with an incredible amount of repetitive songs. The first few dozen seconds of each song were good, but in most songs, it just got old after three minutes. I feel like this encompasses pop as a genre; great melodies that grow old after being repeated a bunch. However, as I said before, most melodies were good, and a few songs were great. It’s far from perfect, but decent nonetheless.

Oorspronkelijk ging ik dit een 5 geven, want ondanks dat Adele wel zeer mainstreammuziek maakt en eigenlijk niet echt de kracht van haar stem ten volle benut, is het wel gewoon nog steeds Adele. Maar na eens echt naar het album te hebben geluisterd zijn de middelste nummers eigenlijk echt niet zo goed (13-in-een-dozijn zelfs). Verder ben ik eigenlijk niet zo een fan van Rolling in the Deep... het wordt dus een 4. Ik kijk uit naar 25.

Surprised, good vocals

Massive album, and you gotta give credit where it's due. Even removing the hits you've got a good album here, if those hits weren't so overplayed you'd probably be blown away by this. Her voice is excellent, and makes each song a fun lil journey. Ok let's forget the hits, special shout-out to I'll Be Waiting because I think that might be the winner on this album, just awesome. Hopefully in future releases she can harness some of this energy

Really, really good. The b-sides don't expand on the sound of the album as much as they should, but the hits are some of the greatest songs ever written. This could be a 5 but I'm giving it a 4 because I don't know if i would really come back to the b-sides, sometimes the lyrics are kinda whatever which makes sense because she really was 21.

I was talking about this album with my wife recently. Set Fire to the Rain came on and we were enjoying it and I was thinking back in disbelief that the same album that has that song also had the heavy hitters Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You, the latter of which is one of the greatest lost love songs ever. I have always heard Rumor Has It at low volumes in the background out in public and found it terribly obnoxious, but at normal volumes when you can hear it all it's not bad! Of the songs I hadn't heard before, Turning Tables and He Won't Go were my favorites, and I was really taken by surprise by her beautiful and unique rendition of Lovesong. What a huge album. What a singer. I remember being blown away by her performances of Chasing Pavements and Cold Shoulder on SNL but I didn't see Rolling in the Deep coming at all.

The hits are 10s. Don’t you remember did not hit, I don’t think the production fit her voice. He won’t go is great my own complaint is I wish there was more accompaniment on the chorus as it falls a bit flat. But well structured and a strong song, with good rhythm. Turning tables is decent, but in general it takes a lot for a ‘slow song’ to peak my intrigue. On the contrary take it home felt like a nice ‘rest’ in the album and hit nicer. I didn’t feel like it was missing anything and it offers some different melodies and nice smooth, then gritty vocals that itch my brain quite nicely. I’ll be waiting is SO GOOD how haven’t I heard it before? The uptempo and swing is very nice and the jazzy vibe is just fun. It reminds me of Amy winehouse, especially in the prechorus. It starts to feel repetitive towards the end but the bridge saves it and rejuvenates the track, and the last chorus feels fresher. I like how one and only builds, the pacing is very refreshing. And I’m a sucker for some organ. I feel like the buildup is more energetic than the chorus though. The bridge is fine, grows on you as it goes. Lovesong hits that hauntingly beautiful vibe that I love to hear. The bass coming in is perfect, with that little spooky top synth / organ. I enjoy how relaxed she sounds singing this. Also my favorite production on the album, it’s perfect. And obv someone like you is one of the greatest songs ever. Love that the album starts and ends on probably the 2 best songs from it.

Not a big fan of the kind of big sound production, but in spite she’s go a pretty amazing voice.

I feel like a wine girly whose deadbeat boyfriend just broke up with her except I still love him deep down. Imagine having a perfectly fine 3* album and having the confidence to put Someone Like You at the very end of it.

Enjoyed this so much more than I expected to really. Most songs really stood out, and were enjoyable. No skips at all. Just missed out on being a 5 for me tbh.

I'm familiar with this album, though I don't listen to it enough. It's quite good.

I enjoy her music when I encounter it. It’s not necessarily something I seek out but it is definitely well produced.

Adele is one of those artist that spurred a ton of copycats. I great vocal style. Highlights: Someone Like You, Rollin In The Deep and my favorite Set Fire To The Rain. 4.1

Diva elton, solid album start to finish

The first album I’ve already listened to in full that’s popped up on this list. Undoubtedly amazing voice but it does get repetitive after so many songs.

Brings me back to a very specific and emotional place and time. Beautiful.

Take It All, I'll Be Waiting and Someone Like You might be my favs on this album! definitely a great album to listen to if heartbroken. I didn't realize she had ever covered Lovesong by the Cure
