Reviews (page 5 of 13)
Great voice, great songwriting. Not a huge Adele fan but was surprised by how many of the songs on here I recognised and enjoyed. Sure, it's over-played and a little safe now, but I remember it being a huge breath of fresh air when it first came out.
What's 9+10?
Listen, I had this entire record to prepare for “Someone Like You”, but it didn’t help. My dog, Caddy, passed away last year at age 13. When he was younger I used to crate him during the day and I always kept a radio on for him. I can’t remember the exact circumstances, but one day I was home and he was in his crate (he hung out there a lot, it was his safe space) and I could hear him howling. I went to investigate and heard this song was on the radio. Interesting. I had no idea he had any proclivities for howling at this point, but as time went on I figured out he did it semi-often and had favorite songs. We made a playlist. “Someone Like You”, “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, and “Come Together” were the first songs. We later added “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay”, and we’d frequently start our weekend mornings with some karaoke. “Someone Like You” always had to be last though, because it put him deep in his feels and he wouldn’t sing anymore after it. Rest In Peace, bubba, I hope we get to do it again someday.
3.5 stars This album has her most well-known songs and what launched her into superstar status overnight. It is well sequenced and doesn’t have a bad song on it. There is clear filler though and some of the middle tracks are just fine. But the she is worth the hype on this album. This is definitely better than many older albums that have stayed on the list, although I believe this was taken off on later editions. They need to have criteria for removing older albums and not replace albums from the last 3 decades exclusively.
Pretty classic Adele songs
I'm not usually a ballad person but wow what an iconic album.
Initial reaction: eyeroll!! But, great songs, great voice - not my thing AT ALL, but I have to be fair!!
8/10 - Great album, no bad songs at all, and no filler, perfect length
I have mixed feelings about this album. I like it and I think it's her best album, but it's not what I usually listen to and the album gets kind of eh towards the end. Overall, a pretty okay album.
Rolling in the deep - 5 Rumour has it - 5 Turning tables - 3 Don't you remember - 3 Set fire to the rain - 4 He won't go - 3 Take it all - 3 I'll be waiting - 4 One and only - 3 Lovesong - 4 Someone like you - 3
I am a little torn on how to rate this. There’s no doubt bout Adele’s voice quality, but some of the songs are quite boring. The pop/neo-soul combination hasn’t been my thing so far. Still, the best songs are good enough and I am feeling nice today.
Good album. The second half has some good deeper cuts. The first half lacks some dynamics, but there are a couple hits there.
I mean, of course I've heard this album before and appreciated her powerhouse voice, but I'll Be Waiting is an unexpected jam.
i really really love Adele, it‘s just not my kind of music
I don't think of myself as someone who cares much about Adele one way or the other. She seems pretty charming from her late-night appearances. This album, though, is quite impressive. Even the sleepier songs have something interesting going on, and the best of them are straight bangers. I really appreciate her range of genre, which mixes things up a bit.
Somehow I think I knew every song on this album and I’m not an Adele fan, really. It’s very good, but I doubt I’ll go looking for it again.
Great album
There's a reason it's the number 1 most sold album
.. ... .... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .... . . . . . . . . . .
Great vocals. Very sad album tho.
one of the best of the 2010s. Absolute banging ballads throughout with a couple of more forgettable songs thrown in
Adele, why’d you make the chorus to Rumor Has It like that? Most of that song is pretty good, but that chorus is so terrible it ruins the whole song. I really hate that chorus. It’s so bad dude. Most of the album is good but kinda generic. All the hits (besides Rumor Has It 😡) are pretty great, and the album never is bad outside of that. Just a bit bland at times.
Adele on ikka talent. Super album, mille peal on mitu minu generatsioonile pähe kulunud hitti ("Rolling in the Deep", "Set Fire to the Rain", "Someone Like You"). Filler lood pole päris minu maitse ja need kohati sulanduvad ühte patta, aga plaat on ikka hea. 4.0/5
Solid album, mastered very well.
Good album, but not my style
Beautiful album where like half of the songs are mega-hits. Gets a bit slow on the second half but all around great music.
Rating:★★★★ Lots of hits. I remember half these songs from the radio growing up. Good, solid album overall
Rolling In The Deep: A classic. 8/10 Rumour Has It: CERTIFIED banger. 10/10 Turning Tables: Has it's moments. 6/10 Don't You Remember: Feels like a really good ballad. 7/10 Set Fire To The Rain: Secondary school nostalgia hard. 5/10 He Won't Go: Good beat but a tad bit boring, still good. 6/10 Take It All: Good but not very memorable. 5/10 I'll Be Waiting: A really good beat, her vocals are great here 7/10 One And Only: INSANELY good. What the fuck 10/10 Lovesong: SO GOOD. Good cover. 7/10 Someone Like You: Lowkey boring 6/10
Yup this is a good one
Yup, just as good as I remember when I came out. Awesome album with a lot of memorable songs. If I could do 4.5 I would
Already have listened
Honestly Rumour Has It and Rolling in the Deep are bangers.
Great voice, liked if more than I thought I would
9/10 - Love this album. Adele is a great vocalist and this is just chock full of well structured pop songs. Fav Tracks: Turning Tables, One And Only, Rolling in the Deep Heard before? ---–- ✅ Saved a Song? ----- ✅ Saved Album? --–-- ✅ Will Listen Again? -- ✅
This album leans too heavily into pop for my tastes, but Adele is such a powerful and emotive singer that it’s impossible not to enjoy it.
Rolling, Rumour, Set Fire, and Someone definitely all deserved the hype they got back in the 2010s never knew there was a cure cover on that album, its really good tho
Foda, 3 pedradas no álbum. Excelente álbum, vou dar 4 estrelas pela qualidade absurda. Se eu fosse fã provavelmente chegaria no 5.
Amazing album with great vocals as well as songwriting. Enjoyed it throughout especially the first half.
Favourite Songs: Rolling In The Deep Rumour Has It Set Fire To The Rain One And Only
I new the main singles, but I was quickly won over by the power of Adele’s voice. It’s not a musical style I lean on often, but this was a very enjoyable album.
Solid album. Lots of radio play from this album back when we still listened to the radio. Someone Like You will always be an iconic song. Deserves to be on the list.
Rolling in the deep nada más y nada menos como opener. Set fire to the rain reina abosluta.
Our generations Whitney Houston
3/4
A powerful siren call from a strong young woman navigating relationships and heartbreaks of young adulthood that is captivating
Powerful performance from Adele even if some of the songs were missteps.
I was surprised by how much I liked this album, it was relaly good
this gives you power somehow
Really good.
It all sounds good, maybe not my genre.
She’s a genius
En plus cet album comprends mes 2 chansons préférées d’elle, soit Rolling in the Deep et Rumor has it.
Nota: 3.8
Probably doesn't quite escape the charge of being "Amy Winehouse for nice people", but there's no denying the power of her voice, the perìfection of the production and the quality of the songs. On the surface it's full of pretty songs, but there's real anger and strength in them lurking under the surface, the sound of a woman in pain taking back her independence. Sure, at times (Set Fire to the Rain) it goes into melodrama. And perhaps the polish of the sound could have been grittier to match the content. She never reaches Etta James or Sarah Vaughan levels of power for instance. And 11 songs about broken relationships is maybe going on a bit, particularly when it gets a bit mopey towards the end. But it has to be said that Rolling in the Deep makes a brilliant single, Rumour Has It and Someone Like You are astonishing songs and this whole album is a hell of a thing for a 21 year old to produce.
I definitely enjoyed the hits more than the rest of this, but there are beautiful moments throughout this album. I used to love "Rumour Has It," and it still is such a great moment in this record. Adele's voice is so powerful and filled with emotion, and I think that that sets this apart from a lot of the "mainstream" pop (if this really counts as that kind of pop) from this time. Favorites: Rolling in the Deep, Rumour Has It, Don't You Remember, Someone Like You
This is not my type of music, but man Adele is something else. I really appreciate the strength of her voice, especially for someone so young! A poppy, but not overly poppy album with great blues influence
Its a great album Of course, some songs are stronger than others Some people will react badly to the Cure cover song And Adele's voice has had so much exposure as to make some of her vocal inflections into a cliche Its still a great achievement No perfect to my ears - I like a slightly rawer edge, but heck, still a solid 4
Great album, amazing vocalist. I like 25 better, but this is a near second.
Undeniably changed the game. I appreciate this album more than I did when I was younger and first listened.
It’s pretty good very good vocals and instrumental but just not my vibe though I really like he won’t go
This was my first random album on the site and its a hell of a start.

EXCELENTE
Hard to believe this is a sophomore release, it seems like a greatest hits album. Seems like this poor 21 year old has experienced a lot of heartache for someone so young…must have started early.
Cantante espectacular, me sorprendió mucho
She's got a great voice, and the album is really consistently good
So much goodness!
I know Mum and Dad won’t be happy with this.. but for me it’s impossible to deny how good Adele is. This has to be her best album too (although I also really enjoy 30, with “Easy On Me” and “I Drink Wine”). It’s almost unfair to finish an album with “Someone Like You” and have it loop back around to a track 1 as good as “Rolling In The Deep”. Those songs are timeless already, but the album tracks here were the most pleasant surprises for me. “Take It All” and “Don’t You Remember” were great.
Solid
Good songs, great voice
Completely not my type of thing, but this is really good. I wouldn’t listen to it again on purpose but if someone put it on, I wouldn’t mind. This is a great music for somebody.
Muy buen álbum
Slow and absolutely beautiful (how tf was this written by a 21 year old!? MADNESS). Would be good for a cosy rainy day. Definitely got a sad vibe at times but she does well to balance that with uplifting songs. Some absolute bangers on here. Overall, definitely enjoyed.
Just seeing the cover of the album I was reviewing told me I was going to enjoy it. What I didn't know was how many amazing tracks it had. Of course, I'd already heard the iconic "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You," but this album has so much more; it's incredible. I have to admit there were some songs that didn't blow me away, but I enjoyed the album from beginning to end. An album worthy of the amazing singer that Adele is.
Solid 8/10 This one hits me. Emotional, direct and it feels real the whole time. Adele’s voice carries the album effortless. The songs hits hard and really stay with you.
Great album. Banger after banger really sounds like a greatest hits record. Very soulful, some rockier tracks like rumor has it and plenty of ballads. Adele’s vocal performance obviously very strong. Some reviews here commented that it’s overly produced and lacks grit and yeah this is a pop record but an all time great at that.
Probably her best album though I’m more partial to 19
Break up cd, janis Rollin in the deep Rumour has it Take it all
beautiful. i’d known of this album because it’s just so iconic, but there’s some deep cuts on there that really stood out like “turning tables”, “don’t you remember”, and “I found a boy”. obviously the popular stuff is very catchy and she has a beautiful voice so it’s just a pretty good album overall. I had a good time listening to it.
Have I listened to this album before? No How familiar am I with this album? I remember when this came out, I know about half the songs How do I feel about this artist? I enjoy Adele, but I am not an avid listener Favorite song(s)? Rolling in the Deep, Rumor Has It Overall Thoughts: This was a good listen. Some of these tracks were really overplayed when this came out but enough time has gone by that they are enjoyable again. You can tell she was really going through it when she made this. The Cure cover was nice.
So many hits on one album. It’s crazy! Undeniably talented. The only thing that makes it 4 instead of 5 for me is it’s not something I would put on to listen to even though I appreciate it
Really good, and see why this album essentially made her huge. Not really my style in that I'll be going back all the time, but still it's easy to see why this was a hit modern pop album.
Solid album, lots of very good songs. Don't listen to her often but it is good!
4/5. More like Sam Cooked with this live performance. Because he gives a fantastic studio-quality live performance here, extremely expressive with an infectious energy which is helped by the backing band. you get a mix of blues and soul here and in theory it’s quite a basic album but Sam just absolutely sells it and elevates it to something great.
Among the most surprising revelations I've found on this list. I obviously knew of Adele, but had never listened to her music. This is a world-class vocalist able to deliver ballads with uncanny emotional resonance along with punchy bluesy numbers. Adele is Dusty Springfield reincarnated. Count me as a fan.
Fantastic, what a voice. beautiful songwriting. The cover of Lovesong was unexpected and very well done.
honestly just the fact that i have half the words to this album memorized from childhood speaks to its importance. yes all the songs kinda sound the same but her voice is beautifula and her talent is undeniable.
love her voice. love piano and dramatic lyrics
Solid
Great album, but not my style
I distinctively remember when this came out. How it caught me even if it's not really my genre. I think it's impossible to ignore Adele's powerful voice and beautiful harmonies. So many good tracks on this record
couple clunkers but man a couple epics too
This record was everywhere. Adele’s got some pipes.
This was an album with an incredible amount of repetitive songs. The first few dozen seconds of each song were good, but in most songs, it just got old after three minutes. I feel like this encompasses pop as a genre; great melodies that grow old after being repeated a bunch. However, as I said before, most melodies were good, and a few songs were great. It’s far from perfect, but decent nonetheless.
Bias
Not the style of music I would normally listen to but she's such a good singer, plus added points for nostalgia. She really pours her emotions out in this album. And I really liked the unexpected cover of lovesong.
Fantastic sophomore album with hit after hit showing why Adele is a powerhouse of a musician
She's so good, dude, on god. Obviously I'd heard all the big radio singles before when the album came out but oh, man, everything here is so good.
Best Track - "Rumour Has It"
The Cure Cover slaps Elten John Influence on the Piano Parts? Well rounded Album musically imo Really enjoy Adele's Voice Didn't get boring whatsoever Would be a 5 star if I'd ever been in her situation or even slightly felt like she must have felt Made me listen to the cure again 4 Stars
Great vocals
Not my taste but it's hard to deny the power and range of the voice. My wife likes this kind of thing.
3.64
7/10
Surprised, good vocals
Massive album, and you gotta give credit where it's due. Even removing the hits you've got a good album here, if those hits weren't so overplayed you'd probably be blown away by this. Her voice is excellent, and makes each song a fun lil journey. Ok let's forget the hits, special shout-out to I'll Be Waiting because I think that might be the winner on this album, just awesome. Hopefully in future releases she can harness some of this energy
Her best.
Really, really good. The b-sides don't expand on the sound of the album as much as they should, but the hits are some of the greatest songs ever written. This could be a 5 but I'm giving it a 4 because I don't know if i would really come back to the b-sides, sometimes the lyrics are kinda whatever which makes sense because she really was 21.
I was talking about this album with my wife recently. Set Fire to the Rain came on and we were enjoying it and I was thinking back in disbelief that the same album that has that song also had the heavy hitters Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You, the latter of which is one of the greatest lost love songs ever. I have always heard Rumor Has It at low volumes in the background out in public and found it terribly obnoxious, but at normal volumes when you can hear it all it's not bad! Of the songs I hadn't heard before, Turning Tables and He Won't Go were my favorites, and I was really taken by surprise by her beautiful and unique rendition of Lovesong. What a huge album. What a singer. I remember being blown away by her performances of Chasing Pavements and Cold Shoulder on SNL but I didn't see Rolling in the Deep coming at all.
The hits are 10s. Don’t you remember did not hit, I don’t think the production fit her voice. He won’t go is great my own complaint is I wish there was more accompaniment on the chorus as it falls a bit flat. But well structured and a strong song, with good rhythm. Turning tables is decent, but in general it takes a lot for a ‘slow song’ to peak my intrigue. On the contrary take it home felt like a nice ‘rest’ in the album and hit nicer. I didn’t feel like it was missing anything and it offers some different melodies and nice smooth, then gritty vocals that itch my brain quite nicely. I’ll be waiting is SO GOOD how haven’t I heard it before? The uptempo and swing is very nice and the jazzy vibe is just fun. It reminds me of Amy winehouse, especially in the prechorus. It starts to feel repetitive towards the end but the bridge saves it and rejuvenates the track, and the last chorus feels fresher. I like how one and only builds, the pacing is very refreshing. And I’m a sucker for some organ. I feel like the buildup is more energetic than the chorus though. The bridge is fine, grows on you as it goes. Lovesong hits that hauntingly beautiful vibe that I love to hear. The bass coming in is perfect, with that little spooky top synth / organ. I enjoy how relaxed she sounds singing this. Also my favorite production on the album, it’s perfect. And obv someone like you is one of the greatest songs ever. Love that the album starts and ends on probably the 2 best songs from it.
Impressive and powerful songs, beautiful delivery
Not a big fan of the kind of big sound production, but in spite she’s go a pretty amazing voice.
No. 380/1001 Rolling in the Deep 5/5 Rumour Has It 4/5 Turning Tables 4/5 Don't You Remember 3/5 Set Fire to the Rain 5/5 He Won't Go 4/5 Take It All 3/5 I'll Be Waiting 4/5 One And Only 4/5 Lovesong 3/5 Someone Like You 5/5 Average: 4,0 By far her best record. Undoubtedly one of the best voices of the 21st century. Here it is coupled with great songs.
Classic Adele, she’s so f ing good. Every melody is insanely catchy and it makes you want to sprint in the rain while crying about something out of your control
Mom core
I feel like a wine girly whose deadbeat boyfriend just broke up with her except I still love him deep down. Imagine having a perfectly fine 3* album and having the confidence to put Someone Like You at the very end of it.
Ngl no idea how she did that at 21. I’ll be waiting is a banger.
Enjoyed this so much more than I expected to really. Most songs really stood out, and were enjoyable. No skips at all. Just missed out on being a 5 for me tbh.
I'm familiar with this album, though I don't listen to it enough. It's quite good.
I enjoy her music when I encounter it. It’s not necessarily something I seek out but it is definitely well produced.
Adele is one of those artist that spurred a ton of copycats. I great vocal style. Highlights: Someone Like You, Rollin In The Deep and my favorite Set Fire To The Rain. 4.1
like whatever adele why are we starting with peak, i know like half songs already and theyre peak sooo
Adele always manages to make me feel everything, 4.5 from my end
Obviously good but overplayed and didn't age as iconicly
4/5 Veeery good
Some gems rescue this and lift it to a 4. But one needs to be in the right melancholic mood to listen to the whole album. Rainy days at the coffeehouse?
Diva elton, solid album start to finish
The first album I’ve already listened to in full that’s popped up on this list. Undoubtedly amazing voice but it does get repetitive after so many songs.
Brings me back to a very specific and emotional place and time. Beautiful.
Take It All, I'll Be Waiting and Someone Like You might be my favs on this album! definitely a great album to listen to if heartbroken. I didn't realize she had ever covered Lovesong by the Cure
An album full of resentment towards men, I feel so in touch with it, queen Adele is just so real
I know a couple Adele songs, but most of this album was new to me. I enjoyed it very much. She has a fantastic voice, and the songs and arrangements suit her well. This album is strong all the way through. I would listen again for sure.
Fantastic album. Plenty of great songs. Not really something I would typically listen to. Could see how plenty of people would give this 5 Kevin Parker's out of 5. Would listen again by choice.
Not my usual cup of tea but a great listen.
As cheesy and vapid as this got at times, it was pretty good overall, as the hits are among the very best pop songs of our century, and the rest of the album oscillates between tasteful soul-influenced tunes and generic (but well performed) ballads.
New to me song that I liked: Lovesong
I adore the opening punch of Rolling in the Deep and Rumour Has It. Many absolute bangers that have followed me throughout my life starting with this album being one of the first CDs I ever owned (played on my lightning mcqueen CD player of course). That said, the overproduction on most of the songs really bugs me
Very solid, not really an album I’d listen to outside of this though. Her voice is a bit too powerful for a daily listen for me personally. The quality of the album is undeniable though
Honestly rolled my eyes when I saw this, but these are banger songs. They're definitely way popular and she gets written off as a pop artist, but she's really good. I think they're also new enough they still really suffer from being overplayed, but as my fiance likes to say, songs get overplayed for a reason....
I gotta say, i’m still a little fatigued from the “BIG” ones (Rolling in the Deep and OH GOD Someone Like You) but there are some SOLID deep tracks here! Like, o completely understand the absolute chokehold she had on so many caucasians a decade ago! Set Fire to the Rain is still a huge banger. THE STREAK OF 4S CONTINUES!!
Adele is such a soulful talent. I could picture how riveting it would be to witness her perform at a piano in a small venue while her voice and piano fill the room. She has such presence on "Someone Like You," which concludes the album. An interesting hit given its minimalistic production, which just goes to show. (That song, by the way, makes an interesting counterpoint to Alanis Morrisette's "You Ought Know.") I also enjoyed the penultimate "Lovesong," which finds her in a different musical motif altogether.
What a voice! Adele's moves across her vocal range as deftly as she moves through the emotional turmoil of her young life. I hope it is storytelling and not a confessional, but in either case, she is an impressive artist.
Classic
love
Before listening to this album, I almost convinced myself that I would not like it one bit, and that's mainly because of the most popular songs Rolling In The Deep and Someone Like You. Having heard those two songs countless times on the radio over the years lessened the impact the meaning of the lyrics would have on me, but after I heard everything else 21 had to offer, I was left shocked by just how beautiful every other song was. Often times with radio pop, the artists' voice and catchy lyrics are the main focus, but this album stood out to me almost instantly because the instruments had just as much of an impact in creating melodies that were full of emotion. 4.5/5.
This is as close to a modern day classic that I can think of. I think this album will stand the test of time. Many massive hits and great vocal performances. This isn't my type of music but I can appreciate the talent and the song writing.
I want to be hipster about this but every song is genuinely great. She still shouldn't have headlined Glastonbury tho
A classic for sure. 5 year old me loved this album
Listening session: february 17th, while commuting to internship Listened to before: yes many times Thoughts: this is not the type of music I would listen to today, but I’ve listened to Adele a lot when I was younger. It’s quite nostalgic to hear these songs and some are undeniable classics so therefore this album deserves 4 stars Favourite tracks: Rumour Has It, Lovesong & Someone Like You
It was pretty good. Probably it would be even better if I’d be sad
7.6/10 the hits aside, the album was a great pop-soul mix, definitely had its highs.
I liked i"ll be waiting and he won't go i never heard them before. Someone like you still slaps
This is my first time of the 1001 where I am very familiar with the album, so it's hard for me to take a step back and think critically about it. I tried to listen through and document how many I'd skip. Realized I'd probably only skip love song. She's too damn good. The first half is banger after banger tho. Kinda slows in second Highlights: He Won't Go, Someone Like You
Great album, lots of bangers and beautiful vocals. It’s a classic
Bangers on bangers
Solid album held up by some world-conquering singles. Will I listen to this again? Probably not. Will I throw it at Penelope when she goes through a bad breakup? Absolutely.
Her voice. Stunning!
I hadn't realized how familiar I was with this album. I don't think I've ever put it on myself, but Jenny definitely listen to it a lot. So listening yesterday was a very "Oh yeah, this song!" experience. It's quite good, but ... as impressive as her voice is, it does get a little gratting by the end. Not a lot of vocal versatility on display. Someone Like You saves it, though. That song is just 🤌
I like Rolling in the Deep quite a bit, but I'll Be Waiting is the standout here. I'll never get tired of that one. Most of the rest doesn't hit me as hard, but it's all very listenable.
4/5 - I know this album well enough that it's a 4. Vocals are obviously amazing; songwriting hooks are there. You should listen to it if you never have.
A little less stoked on this than I had originally thought. It comes out swinging for sure with rolling in the deep and rumor has it. Those songs are genuine mega hits but they might be the bottom of the barrel for what this record has. They are fine songs but the slow stuff is what gets me. The more upbeat stuff just feels a bit off. But after that it slows down some and finds its groove. I really got on board with dont you remember. Rolling into set fire to the rain which is a hit im actually all about. Still good for real. Then it just flows into song after song until its bookended buy someone like you and this might be her best song ever. Im not all that up on what she's ever been doing but this might be the pinnacle. And looking back its still a great batch of songs. Obviously it did very very well for her. She's still out there showing off her very powerful voice and her writing chops. Im sure ill get another one of these and im interested in the lead up or thr follow up, whatever it may be
a classic. overall good songs with some great hits
Great album not my style
Derfor 4/5
I didn't remember this was this good.
It's Adele it's great
Lovely album! I never listened to it all the way through, but I can see the hype for sure. "I'll Be Waiting" and her cover of "Lovesong" were the two favorite.
I was surprised by how much I like this album! Of course I'd heard of Adele and I liked the 2 singles I'd heard. Thought she had a good, strong voice. But, I never checked deeper into her catalog by writing her off as a pop music singer. That was wrong. I mean, yah... she's doing pop music. It's just head and shoulders better than most of what gets played on radios these days. Her voice is fairly amazing. Solid, even, emotional. Just great. Her lyrics are vulnerable and honest. I love it when people are sharing their true emotions and find interesting ways to share a feeling that is ineffable and hard to quantify. Some of these songs have found their way onto some playlists. I don't know that I would actually listen to this whole album on it's own, though. While I like her and some of these songs are real grabbers, it does tend to be a bit same-y throughout. I'll be checking out some of her other albums now, though. I'd call this a 4.4 given that option, but I have to give it a 4 here. I'm going with a 4 because while it is a very good effort, I don't find it to be musically challenging, varied, or interesting enough to bear repeated listening.
This is another modern album that doesn't get the respect on here that I think it deserves. Adele might not be at the same level of singer-songwriter as John Denver or Bob Dylan, but from a popular music standpoint there isn't a much more approachable entry into this than this album. It's not a masterpiece, it's not a genre defining, well balanced entry into the zeitgeist, but it is an easy, enjoyable listen that showcases a very young Adele's natural talent. 3.5 Highlight: Someone Like You Lowlight: Lovesong Highlight #2: Set Fire to the Rain
Listen, Adele isn’t my favorite but god damn she knocked it out of the park with this album
I liked 3 4 songs of this album, but not all of this
Must be one of the top break up albums of all time. All the soul. Also love the cover of Lovesong.
diva
Powerful vocalist and brilliant songwriter
Every other track is a single I've heard 100 times but it still manages to feel cohesive front to back. It goes without saying but her vocals are truly generational. Favourite track: Rolling in the Deep
- I forgot how awesome Adele is - she has such a unique voice and I think it stays fairly consistent in this album - she yearned before it was popular - so many hits on here and they should be hits
Adele has a great voice and sings with real feeling, but apart from the bluesy "Rolling in the Deep" and the soulful "Someone like You", the album doesn't really do it for me, (but that could be because I'm male). Has an interesting version of the Cure's "Lovesong".
i know this album well and it makes me calmer every time I hear it
Bangers, but bloody hell cheer the eff up
yk who’s jealous of adele?
I was already familiar with Adele as several of the songs on this album were hits I'd heard before, and I thought they were good. The entirety of the album has beautiful melodies and instrumentation. Of course her voice is big and powerful, but I sometimes felt like it overpowered the music (which it was obviously produced that way on purpose because it's the asset she has that differentiates her from others). I'm just a person that's more interested in instrumentation. Overall, I think it's a solid album and easy to listen to. My favorite song is Someone Like You because I do like melancholic songs and I think songs like that make good album closers.
The memories this brings back
Na
Incredible album. She has such a great voice. The voice, the writing and the style are all incredible.
Beautiful voice and music. Favorite: Someone Like You
Separating personal feelings from the music… it’s a great album. Just seriously intense vocals.
I'm kinda going through heartbreak and this album kinda hit way too close to home. Her voice is amazing. The good songs are peak, but the rest are forgettable. Great storytelling tho.
I’m not usually a huge fan of vocal-based albums. The voice is not my favourite instrument. That being said, there’s something about Adele’s sad melodies that hit right. I don’t mind her voice shining in the spotlight.
9/10 fav songs are one and only, he won’t go, and lovesong.
Cant believe she wrote this is 21. crazy good first album
This album was MASSIVE at the time. Adele was everywhere. And it still holds up, especially the singles. 21 was a cultural force that we are unlikely to see again with the death of monoculture.
4.1
8/10 Fav: Remour Has It, Set Fire to the Rain, Someone Like You
I will be honest I didn't listen to it, which I know defeats the purpose of this project, but I know it well enough, and know the vibe and the singles and have spent time loving Adele, but yesterday I just didn't want to listen to a full album of piano ballads... Still 4 stars for longevity sake.
Brit soul. I'm kind of ambivalent on Adele overall but I'll give her this one; I like most of the singles, and the "Lovesong" cover is really nice.
My fav Adele but there's still something kinda basic about it.
Very good album. I've never been much of a pop fan, but Adele does the job. She has such an amazing and powerful voice as well. 8/10
I know this album quite well because we have it on CD but I've not listened to it for years. Good to hear with fresh ears. Heartbreaking emotional songs and that beautiful voice. Only a couple of forgetable filler tracks in the middle.
the songs are good but unfortunately i’ve heard them so many times already they strike no emotional significance to me. they’re radio hits for a reason i suppose
Sounds good
Yes. Absolute ride on a memory lane.
Just a very solid pop/singer-songwriter album, where every song is, or could have been, a classic. I don't think I really am the target audience for this, but the album bangs.
Banger of an album. Sounded like a greatest hits album at times; I literally didn't know so many of these big hits of hers were just on one album (and made when she was 21yo as well!). What can I say? Strong songs, strong voice, strong album. 8.5 / 10
Day740 - a no doubter from the last fifteen years. just a behemoth of an album with hit after hit.
classicccc favs are turning tables and dont you remember
Brilliant album, great cover of The Cure as well
Actually controversial take - I think this album might be my least favourite of Adele’s. Probably just because it was absolutely everywhere, but I prefer the vibes on 30. Or maybe I just relate to that more right now. 7/10.
Excellent album. Still not tired of it. Favorite song: Lovesong
(4.3)
I remember going to the mall to get this CD w my mom when it came out. Crazy she made this at 21
I pretend I am too cool to like pulp pop like Adele, but let's be honest, Rolling in the Deep is a modern classic. And the overall album 21 is pretty damn good, too.
21 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!
Incredible voice but only decent lyrics and storytelling. It's better than her other album on this list though!
good but did not maek me gostupidgocrazy
Really good Adele mixes many different generes. Really liked it and her voice is just spectacular
4/5
Banger. After. Banger. 4.5/5
Uh adele I like this one some famous songs and her voice is incredible
Bangers
Really strong start that sort of tails off towards the end. Enjoyable enough, liked it more than I thought I would and really enjoyed some of the singles.
I never listened to this album when it came out, outside of the hits. Really enjoyed it, and what a voice!! Highlights: "I'll Be Waiting", "One and Only" and "Someone Like You"
crazy debut album, so sensitive. and she wrote it so young too.
Already have this downloaded. Amazing
very good vocal performance
I don't resonate with the lyrics at all and the genre influences aren't my vibe either. That said, this is an incredible piece of music.
these songs were overplayed during my glee era -- but I can recognize that adele is a crazy talent. what a lady
I mean, as far as singer with piano stuff goes, Adele is really good at this, I can understand why it won the grammy. I liked it! 8/10
There is no doubt that Adele has a terrific voice and one of the great ones of the ages. However, I hate her content. I wish she would venture into blues or even jazz. I feel like her voice is much more suited to that type of music. I get that the money making is the pop songs, but they're all terrible. Solid 3.5. the voice is a five of course, but the content is a two.
Amazing voice, great songs - Adele is pretty amazing.
Groovy songs, great vocal.performance, lovely lovesong cover, nice surprise for someone who wasnt expecting much
I an not an Adele fan by any means, but this is a solid output!
I think 20 dollars in Kohl’s Cash just appeared in one of my jacket pockets. I didn’t realize this was the best selling album of the 21st century and second place is behind by 4 million copies. It’s hard not to see why. These songs were, and still are, everywhere. The hits are still really great and the deep cuts (if you can even call them that) are pretty great too. I also forgot she did a Cure cover. Never been a fan of Someone Like You.
Adele : classic
4/5
So nostalgic
Is a very emotional album that I guess she sings about a lover who she misses there time together and wish to get back but is rejected of some sort and the last song is her still missing but having to move on. It’s a good breakup album if u wanna be sad
Banger. after. banger. after banger. Literally the only song I didn't LOVE was Lovesong but even then, it is a beautiful song and her voice is just *chefs kiss* perfection. I knew Adele had game but DAMN, this is an ALBUM. She weaves in hints of different genres here and there and the darn thing flows so well. As someone who has listened to literally one album all the way through (see above), this made me understand the album hype.
Adele turning boys into men
Lots of bangers on this thing, starting with the opening track "Rolling in the Deep".
Never listened to this as a whole and was sick of the singles at the time due to constant radio exposure… but what a talent. The years have been kind to this album. I’ll listen again.
outside of the songs which i have previously known and liked, "one and only", "he won't go" and "don't you remember" surprised me really positively. the overall "vibe" of the album is very appealing to me and definitely i wanna get more familiar with adele's discography outside of major radio hits, after listening to entirety of "21"
I like it! I’m so familiar with the singles that it was kind of boring to listen to but I love Adele’s vocal performances!
Hard to give low marks to an album where you already know 1/2 the songs as singles. Cold take but Adele’s voice is phenomenal, favorite song I hadn’t heard before was “I’ll be waiting”
Recognize: Rolling in the Deep, Rumour Has It, Set Fire To the Rain, Someone Like You. Cannot deny the beautiful voice and depth of vocal abilities. Absolutely loved the Lovesong cover.
I really like Adele but I never reach for her music, I wonder why!!!!!
Classic Adele bangers. Enjoyable easy listening. Great vintage production. Adele’s voice is top notch. Only 21 years old. 7.5/10
I’m probably a bit biased here, since I’ve liked Adele’s voice ever since 𝟣𝟫, but 𝟤𝟣 feels like the point where everything truly comes together. Her vocals are powerful without feeling forced, and the emotional weight of the songs carries the album from start to finish. The record balances heartbreak, anger and vulnerability in a way that feels direct rather than melodramatic. Even when the arrangements are straightforward, her voice gives them depth and character. For me, this is Adele at her most focused and convincing — and likely her strongest album overall.
I fucking love this album and listen to it regularly The deep cuts are so good and much better than the singles.
Another great album! This has some fire songs! And Adele is always good
Before Taylor, Adele was The voice! Nice listen -
Really lovely didnt expect to know as many songs as I did Rumour has it is very good obvi, Ill be waiting has nice instrumentals, big fan of any lovesong cover- not the best but pretty good Her voice is very nice like 4.2 stars- 8/10
not really something i reach out to play on the daily, but absolutely iconic, one of THE albums of 2010s
Always impressed with her talent. A couple of great tracks on here that are less main stream.
First Listen; 4; While this was first listen to the album, I'd obviously heard these singles before. I expected to think that the album was good enough, but not for me, but I actually really enjoyed it. These songs are just so good and have a timeless quality. Favorite Track: Someone Like You
I had never listened to Adele's “21” in its entirety before. While her voice is known to be outstanding, I had previously been of the opinion that this did not apply to her songwriting. Listening to the album confirmed this impression: “21” contains 2-4 really strong songs and a whole lot of filler material. At least this gives me the opportunity to highlight a few songs. Here we go: In my opinion, “Rolling in the Deep” is already the best song on the album—Aretha always started her albums this way, so Adele is in good company here. Next, I like the rhythmically accentuated “He Won't Go”—especially after the rather monotonous songs that precede it. Adele's voice also comes into its own on “I'll Be Waiting” and “Someone Like You.” All in all, a pretty good second album from an up-and-coming artist at the time—but with some room for improvement. Too bad she didn't make it beyond that until today!
My queen did such a good job every song was a true story.
8/10 - great album peak songs, my childhood favorites as well. Did not listen to the full album but i revisited the classic ones soo it still counts for me :D
I am not really into her music, but when looking at the tracknlist, man was it full of well-known hits. But the album tracks really make this album sound like a singular unit. Never thought I would give an Adele album this high of a rating. 4/5
Rolling in the Deep: 8/10 Rumour Has It: 8,5/10 Turning Tables: 7/10 Don't You Remember: 7,5/10 Set Fire to the Rain: 8,5/10 He Won't Go: 9/10 Take It All: 7,5/10 I'll Be Waiting: 9/10 One and Only: 8,5/10 Lovesong: 8/10 Someone Like You: 8/10 média: 8,1/10
Ya había escuchado algunas canciones pero “he wont go” realmente me gustó
Its adele i mean it was great
classique.
The hits were great, but the rest of it felt like filler
I feel weird for writing a lot about Adele here since I’m not even a particularly huge Adele fan, especially compared to others I know, but I find her so fascinating as a musical figure for how she came about and what she represented at a very specific time. (Full disclosure: I’m American so I’ll be talking about that perspective. I don’t know what would’ve changed if “Chasing Pavements” was a bigger hit here.) Picture this: it’s 2011. The Hot 100 is dominated by uptempo, largely dance-oriented songs by women like Britney, Katy, Gaga, and Rihanna. “Rolling in the Deep” came out as a single the fall before, but climbed slowly up the charts until it hit #1 early in the summer like a load of bricks. It wasn’t in a totally separate universe from other dance-pop songs on the radio at the time: it’s got a *very* stomping 4/4 beat and a percussive backing vocal that if you squint recalls disco while not really sounding like anything else. But this was a classic, classic R&B song, not super unlike what Amy Winehouse had done with Back to Black but bigger than ever before. (Worth noting too that sadly Amy left us shortly after this song took off in the US.) All of this while she was signed to XL! XL!! I’m a big fan of most of what XL Recordings has ever put out so I’m biased here, but Adele’s inclusion on that roster is lightly insane if you think about it for more than .02 seconds. Imagine if songs by their other R&B-referencing artists like The xx’s “Islands” or Jai Paul’s “BTSTU” took off like wildfire in the US. The mind boggles! All the same, Adele took off, and followed up that song’s success with “Someone Like You”, which really, really did not sound like anything else on the charts at that time. For me, it’s hard not to draw parallels between her and Mariah Carey, whose huge success in the 90s was at least in part a reaction to the exposure of ‘fake’ singers like Milli Vanilli. But Adele didn’t change much in the broader musical landscape: neither throwback R&B nor piano ballads came to dominate the charts, maybe because there were already other belters like Gaga who were just working in a different style, maybe because Americans in that era just wanted to fantasize about being in the club more than anything else. Who knows what happened, but Adele herself continued to thrive in her own lane for years and years to come. So what of the album itself, then? For its history listed above, I think it’s totally unique, especially as far as 2010s records go. Aside from Adele’s classic soul voice, it stands out for some uniquely piano-heavy arrangements, and I honestly kind of love how hollow the drums the sound on a lot of the more uptempo numbers (especially "Rumour Has It”. What is going on with that snare!!) But due to overexposure and the fact that I was 17 when this album came out, so many of these songs feel embedded in my DNA in a very specific way. I will fist pump every time during the second chorus of “Rolling in the Deep”. I’ll lift a lighter, or at least a phone flashlight, up for “Set Fire to the Rain”. And I’ll always shed a tear for “Someone Like You”. I think this album represents a very specific artist who could’ve really only hit once in a very specific era, and I don’t miss that era necessarily, but I’ll always smile along and wave my hands up in the air every time I hear the record.
Incredible album defo will listen again just wish this was my first time hearing the singles as knowing them so well took me out of it a bit.
Listened
Rolling in the deep is an amazing forst song the songs till set fire to the rain are so strong and the song itself is a melodic masterpiece The momentum continues to the end of the album and makes you listen again and again, and again
One of if not the most important pop record of the 21th century
thoroughly enjoyes
woah. all of a sudden i’m 16 again
Much better than I was expecting. I was only familiar with hits which are good songs but the rest of the album is just as good. Fantastic production and she has a great voice.
A good modern pop album, containing some of Adele's biggest hits. She demonstrates her exceptional voice here. I have to admit I'm sick of Someone Like You, which is not a bad song, but it's overplayed. Rolling In The Deep definetly deserves the hype. My favourite songs that I didn't previously know were One And Only and Lovesong.
The goat
Wow. First time listening to this album. It’s so good! She has an amazing voice, great song writing, and it felt like a complete album. Will listen again soon.
Man, she can sing. No standout songs on this album to me, though.
4/5
Pretty good. 4/5
Fine album. Good songs, sympathetic backing. High 3 or low 4
Best female vocalist of my generation
Good stuff. I know some of the songs from the radio, but there are some good songs that are less played in popular media.
maravilloso
