Reviews (page 4 of 13)
Vol met hits, wat een stem.
It is stupid how much talent Adele has and she showcases so hard on this record.
I think this is her best album, what a voice.
Its Adele. She can really carry a tune. There's nothing to not like about this record.
Rating: 10/10 A soul masterpiece. This album is absolutely gorgeous and heart-wrenching, Adele pours out her emotions in each one of the songs and sings with masterful prowess. There is so much nuance in Adele's voice that complements every song so well. The production and instrumentation is incredible, very beautiful and perfect to match her voice. There is a decent amount of variety in the production with lots of details that will make repeated listens of this album interesting. This album is something special, definitely one the best of the 2010s and possibly one of the greatest soul albums of all time. Favorite songs: pretty much all of them. Least favorite song: Don't You Remember.
Released in 2011, Adele's "21" became a cultural phenomenon, selling over 31 million copies worldwide and sweeping the 2012 Grammy Awards. But beyond the commercial success, the album resonated deeply with listeners due to its raw portrayal of heartbreak, growth, and self-discovery. This review delves into the intricate details of "21," analyzing its lyrical themes, musical arrangements, production choices, and lasting influence. Lyricism: Laying Bare the Heart "21" is a masterclass in confessional songwriting. Adele, then 21 herself, poured her experiences of a tumultuous relationship into the lyrics. Tracks like "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You" capture the anger, denial, and lingering love that follow a breakup. Lines like "We could've had it all" ("Someone Like You") are simple yet potent, allowing listeners to project their own experiences. The album explores themes beyond heartbreak too. "Turning Tables" showcases newfound strength, while "Rumour Has It" tackles gossip and societal pressures. "Fire to the Rain" delves into forgiveness, and "Turning Tables" celebrates self-worth. This thematic richness ensures "21" resonates with a wider range of emotions. Musical Tapestry: Soulful Ballads and Surprising Twists Musically, "21" leans heavily on soulful ballads. Tracks like "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain" showcase Adele's powerhouse vocals, with soaring melodies and piano-driven arrangements. However, the album isn't one-note. "Rolling in the Deep" injects a bluesy swagger with its driving beat and prominent drum line. "Rumour Has It" incorporates a playful tempo and Motown influences, demonstrating Adele's vocal versatility. The string arrangements throughout the album add a touch of sophistication, particularly on "Someone Like You" and "Turning Tables." Production Magic: Timeless Elegance The production on "21" is clean and polished, allowing Adele's vocals to take center stage. Producer Paul Epworth masterfully balances intimacy and grandeur. Sparse instrumentation in songs like "Someone Like You" puts the spotlight on Adele's emotional delivery. Conversely, tracks like "Rolling in the Deep" utilize layered instrumentation to create a powerful sonic landscape. The production choices are never flashy, but rather serve the songs, contributing to the album's timeless quality. Themes: A Universal Language of Emotions The core theme of heartbreak is undeniably the driving force behind "21." However, the album delves deeper, exploring themes of self-discovery, forgiveness, and resilience. These universal experiences transcend age and background, making "21" relatable to a broad audience. Influence: A Seismic Shift in Pop Music "21" redefined pop music in the early 2010s. Its introspective themes and focus on powerful vocals ushered in a new era of singer-songwriters who weren't afraid to be vulnerable. Artists like Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith cite Adele as a major influence. The album's commercial success also proved that there was still a market for raw, emotional ballads in an increasingly electronic dance-oriented pop scene. Pros and Cons: A Balanced Perspective "21" is a landmark album, but it's not without its critiques. Some argue that the focus on heartbreak becomes monotonous after several listens. The reliance on ballads can also feel emotionally draining for some listeners. Additionally, the production, while polished, might be considered too safe by those seeking more sonic experimentation. However, the album's strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. Adele's vocals are undeniably phenomenal, and the songwriting is both honest and relatable. The production, while unadventurous, serves the songs well, creating a timeless soundscape. Conclusion: A Legacy of Heartbreak and Hope "21" is more than just a breakup album; it's a testament to the power of vulnerability and self-discovery. Through her raw lyrics, soulful vocals, and beautifully crafted songs, Adele created a masterpiece that resonated deeply with millions. While the album may evoke feelings of sadness and heartache, it ultimately leaves listeners with a sense of hope and empowerment. "21" remains a landmark achievement in contemporary music, a testament to the enduring power of heartbreak, resilience, and the human voice.
I’m a big fanatic of big orchestration and big band. My first kudos go to the entire orchestra that made the full score tracks shine. Still, even the simpler songs were captivating. There is a broader range of intensity on this album than I remember. The lighter songs were fun, the loud songs were exciting, and the melancholy songs were moving. Whatever the intensity of vocals, Adele brings a sincere passion to these songs that is so raw. I remember when "Someone Like You" was on the radio, my friend’s mom was driving us both to school and she turned around and almost scolded him, “Son, don’t you ever hurt a woman to make her feel this way. If you do…” Then she turned back to the front apparently too emotional to continue. Both of us looked at each other a little shocked by the melodrama, but clearly the emotional impact was there.
I usually stray away from music where the vocals are the main focus, but Adele gets the pass every time. One of the best voices of our generation and she delivers eargasms like a Broadway star but with the instrumentals of "pop" music. Proper album.
Almost every song of this album is a hit. The only one I didn't like very much is Don't You Remember, because it's a a little cheesy. She's also one of the best singers alive probly. If this doesn't deserve five stars, nothing does.
Great voice.
Forgot how good this album is. Great voice and great lyrics
So many hits, great deep cuts, this album has it all. I really like it.
Beautiful album, it feels powerful, she really conveys a lot of emotion in all of the songs. Fantastic listen.
Very good
So beautiful!
I missed this the first time around so now I get fresh ears and no sense of it being overplayed! Nice! Huge! Powerful! Adele.
Adele is one of very few artists on mainstream pop radio who are actually talented. This album is raw, genuine, and just plain good. It doesn't matter how many times I've heard Rolling In The Deep, Set Fire To The Rain, or Someone Like You; I'll always be excited when they come on. Plus she covered The Cure on this. Love it.
Nasceu aclamado
Great songs from a really great vocal performer. Adele has been amazing fans with her vocal ability from a very young age.
Great album. Beautiful voice. Sings with passion.
An excellent, high-quality album with fantastic songwriting, instrumentation, vocals, playing, production. A varied yet cohesive collection of great music that has something for everyone. To quote the Star-Ledger, the album ‘appealed to Baby Boomers nostalgic for Etta James, Carole King and 'Dusty in Memphis.' It also appealed to teens struggling with the first sting of heartbreak, hipsters who missed Amy Winehouse, traditionalists weary of synthesizers and vocal effects, and non-pop fans who simply found it refreshing to hear a singer belt out her blues with conviction.’ It was for everyone, and everyone listened. I can’t fault this album — I immediately listened again but got interrupted. Oh, and Adele has soundtracked my ENTIRE life. 25 and 30 came out at different times in my schooldays, but I still remember the hype everywhere. Justified. 10/10.
One of those albums that you feel you've heard most of it on the radio but it then reveals other wonders.
The first album in this list that I've listened to before! I absolutely love this album, I love her voice, emotion, and depth. Beautiful!
A modern classic, blending 60s soul sensibilities with crisp production. And what a voice.
„Someone Like you“ ist mein Weckerlied. "Rolling in the Deep" ist einfach nur herrlich.
Love this album
Incredible album and so many hits!
This album is one I already love and know well. It’s a classic and the songs are great. Love Adele her voice is amazing.
Such a beautiful album. I'll always remember the first time I heard Someone Like You. I stopped what I was doing to listen to the music. Powerful stuff.
Genre: Pop Instruments: 4/5 Modern Translation: 5/5 Dance Potential: 1/5 Listening Location: Commute home from work. Heard it before: Yes Favourite Song: Rolling in the Deep, Someone like You, Rumour Has It, Turning Tables. Made me feel: Like I wanted to be laying in the sun, eyes closed, swaying to the music. I like the piano. I think this album is vulnerable and timeless.
banger right in the feels
Never listened to an Adele album before, or Adele in general outside of in passing. Now I get it. She's got such a beautiful, soulful voice here, and the songs are so rich and varied! I do think the production sounds a touch dated here and there towards the start of the album in terms of sounding like many early 2010's stuff, though I honestly can't fault it because I feel this album set those trends in the first place. This is one of those albums that really keeps up the pace towards the end, and each song here just kinda clicked with me. Definitely will revisit sometime, and will probably dig into her other albums at a later date.
And here I am kicking myself for taking, like, thirteen years to finally get around to this. Good-ass stuff from the lady who'd go on to sing the "Skyfall" theme.
That’s a 5, through and through, and if we were going by 10, to me, it’d be a 10/10. It comes as no surprise to me that this is the best-selling album of the 21st century thus far, and I feel like a moron for never listening to the whole thing until today. I really truly think this is the album that defined the sounds of the 2010s, for better or for worse, and the fact that she was only 21 is insane to me. I loved every single song on here, and obviously, I’m a little biased because of growing up on the big hits, but there’s some incredibly good stuff in between that I had never heard until this listen. I think every part of this album, from the production, to the lyrics, to the vocals, hits on everything I love about music. Perhaps, in some subconscious sense, the amount of times I heard the singles from this album on the radio, or on YouTube, or in some movie or ad, is what shaped so many of my musical tendencies as I grew up. Just a spectacular album, and for me, a timeless one.
Me mola 9
Adele! One of the greatest from my generation!
This is one that I already knew through and through, but I'll never complain about listening to it again. I miss this Adele. The raw emotion in this album. It still takes me back to a place and time that I've long moved on from. Regardless of what happens in the future, this album will always have its place as one of the greatest of all time.
Nice
She deserves all the hype. Just when I felt like it was about to be too much, she shifted gears and showed me what that star power is all about!
Did she release every song on this album as a single? Honestly, there were only two songs on here that I hadn't heard on the radio (or ever) - both of which were equally as great. My plan was to skip the songs I knew (or at least only listen to parts of them as a refresher), but I played the whole thing front to back and sang along as loud as I could the whole time. Adele is my favorite female vocalist of all time. She's a diva, but seems chill. She's got pipes, but she's raspy, and rocky, and sexy, and a little dirty sounding.
Such a fantastic album, and deeper than I remembered. Maybe the songs are a little formulaic, but her voice more than makes up for any criticism.
I remember receiving a free iTunes download offer of "Hometown Glory" by this artist I had never heard of named ADELE. I was struck by, as everyone else has been, by the complete power and nuance of her performance. I had not been that blown away by a female vocal performance since hearing Whitney Houston in the 1980s. But, as it usually does, life intervened and I never did get around to checking out her complete album 19. Nor, I am ashamed to admit, did I hear 21 when it came out. I was in the midst of dealing with family crises, and my attention did not have enough bandwidth to seek out new music. I had to rely on the old favorites to get me through. My world started to right itself around 2013, but I did not hear 21 until I saw a social media post by someone sharing her Grammy performance of "Rolling in the Deep" broadcast live during February 2012. This led me back to Adele, and it has been quite a ride. A breakup album, like countless others, but this one kept my attention all the way through. The song arrangement did such a masterful job of telling the narrative of the relationship blowing up and the process of healing, that to my ears you cannot convince me that it doesn't meet the criteria of a concept album. She worked with fantastic collaborators, this much is true, but as a songwriter on all but one of the tracks, it is shocking that something this powerful emerged from a 20-21 year old. A big fan of the The Cure's "Lovesong", the only song she didn't write, I was weirded out initially by her cover, but I have grown to love its place on the album as a whole. This is totally an album that should be listened to in its entirety, instead of as randomly shuffled tracks, as some are prone to do, or as cherry picked release tracks only. Perhaps loathed by others because of its constant presence and massive success, I feel like this is one of those times I cannot help but tip my hat and say, well done, everything Adele Adkins received was well deserved.
Knap.
BANGER. NO SKIPS.
Great album Her voice is amazing and the songs really hit some chords in the soul
Was Rolling in the Deep with this album. Rumor Has It, this album Set Fire to the Rain. The One and Only. Someone Like You would love this. I’ll Be Waiting to see what you think.
Absolutely insanely good
Album #9 This is the first album that i have listened to more than I care to admit. It's ADELE and not much can go wrong with ADELE. This is a comfort album. Play it in your kitchen and sing along as you scrub dishes, play it in your car and scream it out loud to all the drivers around you, hear it in the grocery story and sing along as you walk through the aisles while giving a knowing smile to the others singing along or play it in the background as you work occasionally murmuring the words as you do your work. Like many of the other albums on this list, ADELE's will stand the test of time.
I can't not give Adele a 5/5. This was arguably the last CD that I bought, and I enjoyed every song. I am typically not much of a "chick rock" listener, but her unique voice and style made me a real fan.
I think this is her best album front-to-back in her catalog. Adele is at the top of the mountain in terms of vocal range, tone, and style. She doesn't miss. If you are a fan of music of any kind, you have to respect what Adele has done with her 4 albums.
So deserving. Banger after banger. Made me dance made me cry. Fav songs He Won't Go, Turning Tables
Much better than her first album (which was very good) I thought she was going to be an Amy Winehouse wannabe but she found her own voice with 21.
Almost seems quaint when compared to the heights she's since reached. Beautiful, compelling songs. I didn't know that she was signed to XL Records. That seems, again, dwarfed by how her legacy has grown. I'm struck by how it has a Muscle Shoals "session musician" feel to it, like a Dusty Springfield album might. Truly powerful, beautiful stuff.
One of the best albums I have ever heard
Voice of a generation
I mean...of course it's one of the greatest!
happy i got another chance to listen to this album. such a beautiful voice. so much passion and pain.
Fantastic album
Regular listen. My favorite Adele album
More sultry and R&B influenced than I anticipated. Nice phrasing and arrangements in this pop classic.
Admittedly, I had never actually listened to the entire album. Just the releases. It's very good. Something I should've done years ago.
Worthwhile revisit. My daughter (born in 1986) has this one. Adele is a class act and has the talent and durability, at least so far, to enjoy her worthy success. I recently watched a documentary on Linda Ronstaht and it struck me that Adele’s vocal range, tonality and stylings are beautifully similar to Linda’s. Would it be a worthwhile project to have Adele rearrange the Ronstaht hits for a revival of interest in Linda’s work? Too often limited arranging and scrimpy budgets hindered the durability of the older artists’ songs. The sad ending of a career due to illness is a fate no one wants. Enjoyed the selection, thanks.
Love her timing and effortless rhythm…she makes a loungy song sound rich and blusey. Love song is a favorite but really all are great.
Queen
This album came out right when I met Tucker. It brings me back to such an exciting time in my life. Starting a new relationship obsessed with a breakup album.
Excellent album
insane lyricism. OBSESSED
Amazing album start to finish. I'm not much into modern pop but Adele is the one singer that I can't get enough of.
The succes of this was one of the rare occasions where the biggest star in the world is also really really good - it should be true more often! A brilliant second album, which really shows off her voice and song-writing (& song-choosing). A modern masterpiece - and still probably her best and most consistent work.
Das Album gefällt mir sehr gut. Adele singt traumhaft schön. Die Musik lädt zum Träumen ein.
Good music, sympathetic voice.
Great songs, could have removed 4th track but the nostalgia still hits hard. I’ve realised I’m a pophead.
Adele is one of the few artists that can literally make me cry. 21 is still early in her career but between 19 and 21 (the albums and her age) she had matured and solidified her vocal style. She is emotive, evocative, and soulful. Honestly, she could sing a restaurant menu and it would hit me like a truck. While she gets better over time (30 is an amazing album), 21 is still fantastic. High points include Rollin in the Deep and, especially, Someone Like You. Adele is what you listen to when you want to feel all the feels and 21 is a great start.
De allerbeste zangeres uit onze tijd. Een beetje kazig door hoe vaak we deze nummers hebben gehoord maar rolling in the deep en someone like you zijn gewoon klassiekers.
first time listening have heard rolling in the deep rumor has it set fire to the rain someone like you
Hard to say otherwise
songs of love, loss, and heartbreak. otherworldly vocals. in my opinion, she is the most gifted female vocalist in pop music today. not my preferred genre, but i find her music irresistible. you really can’t go wrong with any of her albums, but this one is my favourite. a true masterpiece. highlights: “rolling in the deep”, “turning tables”, “lovesong”, “someone like you”.
This was incredible.
Not my thing, but exceptional.
Nádhera! Aj tie piesne, ktoré som nepoznala. Aj Terinke sa to veľmi páčilo 👍
Beautiful.
Great album. Adele's voice is so powerful. Wonderful for listening to after a breakup.
I first listened to this album a few years ago, when I was going through Rolling Stone's best albums of the 2010's list. I was really shocked how much I enjoyed it then, and I still loved it on this relisten. Adele's voice is absolutely incredible. She manages to hit every note with absolute perfection, and I found myself listening to her every word with rapt attention. I'm completely spellbound by her vocal talent. The singles off this album, for the most part, are incredible (more on that in a bit). "Rolling in the Deep" has its fantastic call-and-response chorus, "Set Fire to the Rain" conveys an actual atmosphere of embers falling from the sky, and "Someone Like You" is the perfect heartbreaker to close out this album. Outside of the singles, "Waiting For You" was my favorite track, with its driving chorus, jangly guitar riff, and fantastic backing vocals. Lyrically, this album perfectly captures the range of emotions that come after a breakup. It's deep, soulful, and feels authentic throughout its eleven tracks. The musical arrangements are beautiful too; whether the music is driven by piano, strings, or guitar, every song is captivating and beautiful in its own way. My only beef with this album, is that I hate the repetitive chorus of "Rumor Has It." There's just something that song that I find really grating, and I can't quite put my finger completely on it. Still, this is easily a five-star album for me, and I think it's objectively fantastic.
wow
Once in a lifetime choice. Every track is genuinely moving. The emotional authenticity is almost embarrassing. A landmark album.
Rolling in the Deep Set Fire to the Rain Someone Like You
this good
I've listened to this album more than 38 times, already, I love it. Lovesong or Someone Like You is my favourite.
10/10
If "Someone Like You" were the only track, I'd still rate it a 5/5. The whole album is a 5+++/5.
peak
Adele is an absolute legend
don't talk to me i'm still crying
staring out the window with tea and a blanket and yelling VOCALS!!!
(ifunny.com meme)
it's 3:30 in the morning and i'm crying.
bas ti hvala adele... Days without crying: ̶1̶0̶ ̶ --> 0
Art Class c.2011 no skips
There's nothing I could say about this album that hasn't already been said. Simply fantastic!
One of my absolute favorites.
fantastic quality vocalist focused pop songs with a couple mega bangers
I really like Adele already. Great voice. I didn't realize how many of these songs were on one of album.
Realno 10/5
A genuine masterpiece, a true coming of age album
blessed to get this album first..... one of my favorites. my favorite song is def "he won't go". 10/10. adele did the damn thing!!! this album got me through it.....
Still a great album. Great performances, and even though I did get sick of the songs when it was new, they still hold up after not listening for a while.
just as good as a when the pawn or all mirrors
As usual, Adele delivers with this album. Her voice is so strong and unique, and she is very well-versed in the blues. The song styles are diverse, though the topic tends to stick with a "lost love" theme. I just really like everything she does.
Ein wirklich schönes Album.
Wat een topzangeres is dit toch. En ook een erg straf album
Whatever you might think of her as a person or whether she's overplayed this is an album packed with talent. I remember listening to'Rolling' and thinking "boy this girl is good!" Little did I know. Since then I do think she's overplayed and all the razzmatrazz is too much. Compare her to say Tina Turner, Aretha or Whitney and I think it's down to marketing and exposure. Adele has a great voice but should she really be compared to the greats?
Very good
Powerhouse of an album that shot Adele to superstardom. Still listenable as it has a timeless sound, still relatable, still raw in many ways.
Incredible album. Only heard 2-3 songs before, but the entire album is a masterpiece.
How can this not be five stars? Sound track of the decade. Five transcendent songs surrounded by excellently crafted bangers. I'm not even an Adele fan, don't care for her voice, and I still recognize this as near perfection.
Absolute belter of an album.
I liked this album. Particularly "I'll Be Waiting" and maybe 1 or 2 other ones unknown to me before this. Also there are some good ones obviously, Rolling in the Deep, Rumour Has it, Set Fire to the Rain, Someone Like You. "Lovesong" is a cover of the classic Lovesong - The Cure. It was nice to relisten to some of these songs. I know the lyrics to a lot of them and haven't listened to them for a few years, it's nice to revisit. I like "If It Hadn't Been For Love" as well.
memory rush
Highlights: Rolling in the Deep, Set Fire to the Rain, He Won't Go, Someone Like You Leave Em's: Don't You Remember, One and Only, I Found a Boy Overall Thoughts: An album full of songs that shaped our iPod playlists in middle school, and thus are remembered with nostalgia and fondness. Adele's voice is awesome and can reach volumes and pitches that girls would fail to replicate in talent shows across the world. Some may consider this to be a "guilty pleasure" album and I would likely fall into that group of people. While most of these albums for me are appreciating the classics, this is one that came out during my lifetime and acted as a soundtrack for my formative years. Score Breakdown: 4.242 & 5 -> 4.621
A powerhouse of a voice and iconic album, loved it since it came out and I will continue doing so over a decade later.
Soul, R&B. Me ha gustado. Venga, vinilo por la voz.
Obviously Adele is a generational talent, both as a vocalist and a songwriter. The punchy pop production really suits this album. Not sure what more you could want.
a defining album of the 2010s, just filled top to bottom with huge hits. the songs that aren’t hits are worse, but that’s genuinely a minority here. the production is a lot better than i expected, though it has some unfortunate hallmarks of the era (probably unavoidable but the weirdly aggressive bass hits just annoy me now). the lyrics are what they are, but broadly i was pleasantly surprised. a strong 4 to weak 5, and i’ll round up because i have some nostalgia here.
I didn't think I'd be giving Adele a 5 today, but here I am because this is a fantastic album! For an artist to have one song with over a billion streams is an impressive feat, for that artist to have three on the same album is unbelievable. It is just a fantastic album that doesn't have a single miss in the lineup. Not to mention that is has the best cover of one of The Cure's songs I have ever heard. Great album, very deserving of a 5 star rating.
Honestly, this album goes way harder than I ever realized. The passion in the songs is evident. Also I cannot for the life of my figure out why 'I'll Be Waiting' is the least played song on this album. It's a jazzy, fun, bop. So good!
AMAZING
A GREAT ALBUM.A TRUE 5/5.so much better than Adele’s other albums it’s crazy. Her voice is so beautiful the hooks of the songs are so good, the emotion, the instrumentation it all just works.I would highlight stand out tracks but they’re almost all bangers.Just a great album.
Stone cold classic.
It was really fun to get to listen to this album in full again. The last time I listened to this album in full was probably in 2012. I really enjoyed Adele's rendition of Lovesong. When I initially heard this album I did not realize Lovesong was a cover, now as an adult (especially an adult who was proposed to with this song) I greatly appreciate how soulful her voice is in that cover.
It’s Adele of course it’s gonna be good
Can't go wrong with Adele. Such a fantastic album. Absolutely love it!
Any songs known?: All Favourites?: - Rolling in the Deep - Rumour has it - Turning Tables - One and only - Set fire to the rain Least Favourites: None!! Thoughts?: - Such an underrated album, Adele never misses Album art: 5/5 - classy, flawless makeup, she IS the moment Overall score: 5/5
Loved
Goddamn she's got a voice
How can you not give this five stars? Some absolute belters on there, and it culminates in the iconic Someone Like You.
Brilliant start, beautiful end, can the rest of the album maintain the standard to get top marks? Yes, just about. It lulls a little in the middle but still some quality tunes in there. She is a national treasure and one of the best artist of the 21st century.
I forgot how good this was. Hot damn, high school me didn't know what he was listening to.
Finally one for the ladies!
This came out 10 years ago and this is the first time I hear it.... Adele, forgive me if I'd ever thought you were overrated! Anyway I loveee it!!! Rumour has it! He won't go! The Lovesong cover! If It Hadn't Been For Love! 5, no question.
Unreal. Had no idea Adele had a cover of Lovesong.
Considering the significant airplay a lot of these songs received, 21 feels almost like a best of. A collection of some of the greatest pop songs of the last 20 years. There are bangers such as “Rolling In the Deep” and “Set Fire To the Rain”, beautiful piano ballads in “Turning Table” and “Take It All” and then there’s the funky “Rumour Has It” and “He Won’t Go”. The piece that finally convinces me that this is as good a pop album as they come is the cover of the Cure’s “Lovesong”. Once in a while a cover comes along that sounds so convincing that it could easily have been the original - take the Johnny Cash cover of “Hurt” as an example. Adele’s “Lovesong” is one of those.
One of my all time favorites. I do have bias but every song is incredible and even her cover sounds perfect. Everything about this is 10/10.
Yeah this is straight-up fantastic. It's really quite a simple album which oddly is what I like about it - not overly-produced in any way, not terribly cutting-edge, no electronics or sampling - just great bluesy/soul/rock with a simple backing band and her killer voice which is honestly why the album rises from nice to great - the best part is she *never* overdoes it vocally. Every track is catchy in some way, and this is more than worth the hype of being an all-time seller (plus it's a family favourite). 9/10 5 stars.
Beautiful, emotional, accurate
Always good. Love song hit particularly hard. What kinds of heartbreak did Adele go through for this?? Brilliant, class act, timeless
Simply a modern classic.
Damn what an album. Kinda sad its over. No wonder this cemented Adele into what she is today. I listened to this without taking any notes and while doing homework and it was a really good listen. The album flowed really well and carried a certain vibe that only Adeles albums can capture. Not gonna lie tho, I was so disappointed when I realized this wasn't the album that had "Water Under The Bridge", it's my favorite song by her. Overall really good album
What suprised me most about this album is the tracks that ended up being my favorites. He won’t go and I’ll be waiting we’re great and super upbeat. FUN songs. Really surprised me. This album is stacked and to be honest, made me a solid Adele fan(?) but this project is solid too to bottom. Plus my gf really liked the cover of lovesong I like how her albums are ages too, nice touch.
It's Adele. It's very, very good. It's Adele.
Top songs, top voice, nice music. Must listen for all.
I am a fan of Adele’s going into this. She has such a powerful, beautiful, amazing voice that conveys so much emotion. This album was magnificent. I hope that her other albums are on here as well.
Might suffer a bit for some because these songs were so overplayed at the time. But really good, song after song.
Adele has absolute PIPES and they are on full display here. Song after song here are well-written and fantastically performed. The production values are really high. A top tier pop piece from a modern day diva.
The bomb
One of the great modern classics. A vocal display for the ages. She made her mark like nobody else in this time period. Her influences are vast and it shows in a voice that can do anything. Big singles, great production.
Aided by 3-4 megahits, this album is also a surprisingly diverse album stylistically and knows to convince with a high quality of production, singing voice and songs
As a 9-10-year-old when this came out, I can still remember the grip this album had on pop music in the early 2010s and was thus a big part of my initial exploration of the music and Vevo side of youtube (rolling in the deep music video). I can even remember a year or two later, when I got my iPod touch, downloading rolling in the deep, set fire to the rain, and someone like you on iDownloads+ from mp3skull.com because I didn't want/know how to buy music. Anyway, the point is that this album is awesome and all of the big hits still hit and the less popular songs are also great. While I've heard the hits a million times, I never knew how country and twangy adele gets in some of the later songs which I really liked.
Focking bangers only, mate
Yeah that’s an incredible album
An impeccable pop album.
The hit singles are great - Rolling in the Deep, Rumour Has It, Set Fire to the Rain, and Someone Like You in particular are such powerful and emotional songs. And different emotions - shows depth. I was a bit surprised I didn't like some of the non-hits as much. Still that's like saying a t-bone steak isn't quite as good as filet mignon. If anything, the second half of the album after Set Fire to the Rain might have dragged a bit - until her remake of Lovesong. That was a cool rendition. Once I listened a few more times the non-hits really grew on me (especially Don't You Remember, One and Only). Might be another 4.5 but I'm rounding up because I rounded down on her third album.
I'd say a 4.5, some really solid songs and this was only her second full album! I'll round up to a 5, I wouldn't listen to Adele very often personally but she deserves the credit
I love Adele. This album is called 21. It's because she was 21 when she wrote and recorded it. Her first album was called 19. Sick talent. Anyway, watch this video. https://youtu.be/PQM3XUhiXbQ
Soul, R&B. Me ha gustado. Venga, vinilo por la voz.
An automatic 5-star for me as I’m very familiar with this album. It was nice to listen all the way through again.
Great album!
She had a lot of bops on this album, surprisingly a big fan I enjoyed it 😌
Powerhouse! The songwriting, the singing, the deeply vulnerable and raw expression of self, it's all here. Adele is the whole package. I'm not even a fan, but I can respect and appreciate the true artistry on display here. And at such a young age! She's just so damn impressive.
Amazing voice, really good album.
A green eggs and ham for me. I've of course heard a lot of this album before but really enjoyed it start to finish. The cover of Lovesong is great
every song is literally so iconic omg how did adele do this at 21 wtf she really saved the best till last favs - rolling in the deep rumour has it turning tables set fire to the rain he won’t go I’ll be waiting someone like you
Not in my edition of the book! 2011. 5 stars. Adele before she became a parody of herself. Cracking voice, and the albums is packed with great tunes. What's not to like?
So I am not an Adele fan. Don’t hate her by any means, I just mean that I’ve never listened to an album of hers all the way through before and none of her music is in my library. I thought about this one a bit after listening and I have to say, with no existing bias towards her whatsoever, I’m going to have to give it a 5. I can’t think of many albums with such a strong first half. This first 5 songs from Rolling In The Deep to Set Fire To The Rain was relentless. There was one song in the middle I’d not hear before and then it went on to a really strong finish. I can’t say that Adele will take a permanent place in my library rotation after this, but you’ve got to give credit where it’s due as the saying goes. Brilliant album to be fair. Weird one for me to give a 5 and not have it in my library already and then subsequently choose not add it after giving it that score. But I feel confident in the score “I was in the o2 signing my lungs out, Rudeboy - you’re never too big for Adele” - Stormzy, Big For Your Boots - Feb 2017.
I've heard this album a bunch of times. Adele has a magnificent voice. The songs are all good, and it flows quite well. While not my preference in music, the album is definitely a good one.
I knew adele but to be honest i never listened to one of her album. This was a pleasent surprise. Each song was well sang, well composed and really great overall. The vocals are insane, this is really a great album and i will definitely catch up on her other works
I own this album and have listened many times. While there are some songs that I don’t love, it’s excellent. I love Adele so much.
Amazing second album that put Adele on the map.
Honestly I'm not the world's biggest Adele fan but this album was such a cultural moment I can't help but appreciate it
The bookends of this album make it an instant classic. Heartfelt lyrics from a heartbreak mixed with clean and simple arrangements make this a great listen. Take my 5 for those bookends.
An excellent album
sooo many songs i didn’t know abt!
Un d'aquells casos improbables on tot encaixa. Composicions, arranjaments, veu, moment, so... Un disc per una generació
A modern classic, Adele's voice is so gorgeous. Listening to the whole album is a lot since she sounds like a psycho stalker after 11 songs about the same dude, but every individual song on its own is so good!
beatiful this album is her best album that she has ever pulled out 10/11 song still a 5/5 great hits on there absolutely incredible her vocals the instrumentals everything is amazing the themes incredible nothing bad about this album
good
Beautiful
So good. Kismet moment. Listened to it already this week. Her best work likely!!
Her best album.
Real shit, no autotune. Olipas virkistävää ja modernia!
Adele is one of the only truly unique talents to come out of the last 20 years and I'll fight you about it.
This is an album I am very familiar with! I can't believe it came out 11 years ago! I distinctly remember Adele's name being everywhere following the release. There are 5 singles out of 11 songs on this album, and each one recieved insane amounts of fanfare. Adele has an amazing singing voice! It is so weird to hear her speak, then sing! It's like 2 different people. The music on this album is minimalistic, but I believe that is on purpose so that her voice is in the spotlight, which it should be! Another crazy fact is that Adele recorded this album when she was only 21 years old. There are a lot of songs about heartbreak on this album, which she wrote after a hard breakup shortly before this album was released. There is always something to be said about an artist who writes their own material, because the pain felt through the lyrics of some of these songs is something that cannot be recreated by anyone except the person going through the breakup. This was a phenomenal album, and I will definately listen again! Favourite songs: Someone Like You, Rolling In The Deep, Rumour Has It, Set Fire To The Rain, Turning Tables, He Won't Go, One And Only Least favourite song: if forced to pick, Lovesong 5/5
A master at the height of her game.
Todella upea levy tämäkin Adelen teos
Pleasant.
Love it
Undeniably a stunning album
It's hard when you have to sit a group member down for a difficult intervention. To have a talk about a review so absurd it makes the whole group look bad. But we are sadly at that point with pretentious-ass. A hard reviewer to agree with, as the data attests, but someone who often makes a good point and shares a reasonable opinion even if I don't always share it. Alas, not today. "Every couple of years a singer like Adele comes through with a breakout album that's been promoted, marketed and consequently adored by all the early/mid-30's, recently married (mostly) women." Adele is totally not my typical kind of music. Pop heavily influenced by soul and R&B, with an emphasis on a generational vocal talent, isn't something I listen to much of. Then again, there really isn't much else like Adele, despite some of the nonsense below. I am married. But not a woman. And no longer in my 30s. But I'm pretty confident Adele transcends the bubble pretentious-ass tries to shove her into. "There were the Celines, the Didos, the McLachlans, the Tunstalls and countless others. Now, it may not be fair for me to lop them all in together, because they're not all the same, but they all serve the I Heart Radio enthusiasts that gobble up this homogenized stuff." Um, please. Celine Dion is the only one that can come close to touching Adele's popularity and superstardom. I'm sorry that I Heart Radio is having such a tough time figuring out what to put on your Adele station, but that's because there is pretty much no one else that fills that same niche. But KT Tunstall? Never even had a top 10 hit song. Dido? Once. Sarah McLachlan? Just two, though "Angel" far outlived it's time as a hit thanks to the ASPCA. Dion is the only one who comes close. Though she had contemporaries in the 90s that were just as big, whereas no one in the 2000s can touch Adele. Dion had four #1s and 10 top 10s. Adele has had five #1s, eight top 10s, and 25 total songs on the Hot 100 to Dion's 21. But "Rolling in the Deep" was on the chart for 65 weeks, twice as long as the biggest Dion hit. It's not just 30-something soccer moms that kept Adele that hot. "There's nothing wrong with 21, but there's nothing amazing about it either. It's plain vanilla. I can say that. I'm a dabbler in the I Heart Radio world and I've even got a special place for the tunes that I find there. That place is called my 'guilty pleasures' playlist. You'll find artists like Vanessa Carlton, Counting Crows, Jane Weaver and Cracker there. If you're an artist tho, there's no clear path to gaining acceptance to this coveted and enviable playlist." You can love it, like it, or loathe it, but Adele's music isn't vanilla. There is all kinds of vanilla pop being cranked out, but Adele is at the very least Neapolitan. Then we're bringing Vanessa Carlton into it, which seems to follow in the seriously overrated department after Dido and KT Tunstall, but then we take a major detour. Counting Crows were not vanilla. But you finally got one right. Acceptable guilty pleasure. Jane Weaver I'll pass on as I barely know her from the 1001, and Cracker... the less said about that barely a one-hit wonder the better. This guilty pleasures playlist is weird. "Yes, Adele has a great voice, amazing even. All of the women above do. But unfortunately, this is just like so many others and doesn't resonate as anything special." Not amazing, even. Just flat out amazing. One of a kind. The only one that could have given her any kind of run for her money as the iconic voice of her generation would have been Amy Winehouse. "21" is absolutely top-notch from start to finish. Five singles hit the top 100. It sold 31 million copies, more than 10% more than the next highest album of the 21st century (weirdly 2nd place is a three-way tie between Linkin Park, Eminem, and Norah Jones). It is likely that no album will ever sell that many copies again. No one since Adele has come through with a break-out like she did at 19, or followed up with an even bigger hit at 21. The only artists making those kind of sales, pop chart, spins, and streams impact at that age are manufactured boy bands. She is a legit singer-songwriter with a dynamic voice (both in her writing and her singing). There is almost no one who is comparable, despite pretentious-ass' misguided efforts. I rarely listen to music like this. But when I do, it's Adele. I'm pretty sure that even if I really didn't care for the music I'd have to give it at least 4 stars on iconic impact alone. But there are so many songs on this album that break the scale that I don't even have to consider it.
Adele clearly went through some shit but damn I am glad we got this album as a result. This album is a pop masterpiece with infusions of R&B, gospel, and soul. Her voice has a very unique texture and tone that makes every note ooze with her heartbreak, anger, and depression. By the time Set Fire to the Rain is done, I am emotionally exhausted, and it's only halfway through the album! This album will be in my regular rotation forever, it was a classic the moment it was released.
Yeah that was good
One and Only y Set Fire to the Rain son mis favoritas.
My favorite Adele album. She was absolutely peerless and put out a record that showcased everything she does to perfection. So many high points.
Absolutely gorgeous album. Scratchy vocals that easily reach her ranges. Haunting ballads on love, breakup, introspection and healing seep from her recent breakup with her partner. Love song is my favorite. Truly so beautiful. Major Amy wine house vibes, and overall incredible emotion pouring from every song. No problem giving this one 5/5.
Great best album so far
On second listen I don't think there is a bad song on the album. First half is stacked with radio hits but there is a lot to like through the end. Favorite: I'll Be Waiting
Heartbreak hotel.
One of the defining albums of a generation
Killer album by a killer voice
Pop, but good. Excellent vocals.
Adele is a force! I appreciate any artist that includes covers.
Amazing voice and music
Amazing, just simply amazing. This album shows off Adele's vocal talent and the songwriting is sublime. Enjoyed every second of the album.
raw emotion, beautiful vocals, wondrous production. literal music heaven. adele’s best album, and for sure one of the best albums of all time. highlights: EVERY. TRACK.
I love this album, I've listened to it 100s of times.
What can one say? This has been a favourite of mine for some time now. It's crazy to think she was only 21 when this was recorded with so many absolute bangers. Many songs of this are in my regular rotation and it's a pleasure to listen to the album in full again since there are a few more songs I've forgotten about.
Adele really isn't my favorite artist but this album is undeniable in its power. Both her talents and also the sheer force that these songs shocked the airwaves with. Basically every single one of these songs was a hit radio single and all the white girls in college were belting them out every chance they got. Also it's impressive to hear a voice like that coming out of a ginger.
Adele really came into her own with this album.
STAAAHHPP. This album is fucking flawless.
5 Love this Have heard this shit so incredibly many times, but still it just works.
Rating: 9/10 Best songs: Rolling in the deep, Rumor has it, Turning tables, Set fire to the rain, He won’t go, Someone like you
gotta love adele this is full of bangers
Different album, but Stevie Wonder must be pissed!! Anyway, so going into this I thought I just listen to it the background while getting ready for the next day, well prepared to give it a 4 because everyone knows this is a great album. I was even considering a 3 just because I had heard is so much and was possibly sick of it. But, it is a great album and actually hooked. I began to appreciate what a story it tells. Will definitely go back.
Jodidamente brillante.
Fantastic album - wide variety of soulful, emotive songwriting and Adele's vocal performance is wonderful.
9/10. This had a lot of rather good songs on it, that all sound a lot better after a few years of not having listened to the radio.
Excellent. 9/10
Every song is perfect.
Adele at her best!
Кк
Amazing Album from start to finish, not my mood but I respect it
I love every song!
Such a beautiful voice. Such an amazing songwriter. Top-notch album.
Banger after banger!
Classic
Really good album. Excellent vocals and song writing
good music, only knew the famous songs but the entire album is worth listening to. production is impeccable and her voice really is special. felt like the album was a bit too long maybe? and some songs aren't quite on the same level as the well-known ones. still, will probably listen to this again.
yea i get it. i wish i had the guts to say it isn't technically really very good. but im also okay never hearing any of this music ever again in my entire life. favorite song is He Won't Go or Don't You Remember, but if i remove the cynicism from my heart for a few minutes Someone Like You is a lovely tune. very annoyed 4
Figured this would be ploddingly drab but ended up enjoying it much more than I though I would
Classic
C'mon. It's Adele. Everyone loves Adele. I don't even listen to her music regularly and I like her. Haha. Rolling in the Deep. Rumor Has It. Set Fire to the Rain. Someone Like You. The only thing I didn't like about his album was that I saw it came out in 2011... I could have sworn this album came out 2-5 years ago. Definitely not 15!! Ahhh! But yes, it's a great album. :)
Have never cared for Adele and always thought of her as the industry's whitewashed answer to Amy Winehouse ... but I'm gonna have to eat my words; this is a legitimately great album.
Listening to this shit while looking at the sunset is genuenly so cool. I rly like this. I rly like I’ll be waiting. Overall. All of them were. Bangers. None of them disappointed.
Following Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain yesterday she literally was Chasing Pavements here. Good album! Closer to the Memphis sound that I was hoping to hear on 25. Great Cure cover!
I’m trying to review this through the lens of someone who is clearly not the archetype Adelle fan, but who can spot a good song when they hear it. This takes most of those boxes, yes it wanders into soppy love song territory too often for my liking, but mostly the songwriting is very solid, and very soulful, with some of the tracks being modern pop classics. Adelle’s voice is immense on this album, it has to be appreciated just how strong she is vocally. Definitely good enough all round to score a four from me, despite the fact I’m pretty sure I’ll never actively listen to it again.
Beautiful. Poetic. So well done. Adele has a great voice. If you're not crying while listening to "Someone Like You" what are you even doing?
an amazing point in time for music. 21 didn't sound like anything out there and there's still nothing quite like it. so many of these songs were in heavy rotation on the radio, in stores, in cafes. iconic I do think that some songs are better than others. not every track is perfect or worthy of 5 stars so this is a 4 star album to me
An extremely niche game I play sometimes is matching up popstar careers and NBA careers. Taylor Swift is LeBron - teenage wunderkinds turned cultural Main Characters who seemingly succeed constantly but are most interesting when they fail. Beyonce is Kobe - all-time greats by virtue of their sheer insistence on being seen as such, and whose status as arbiters of Realness is less stable than it appears. Britney is Allen Iverson - enormously important cultural symbols, and we're also still on some level arguing about whether they were ever actually good. Ariana Grande is Kevin Durant - destined to be known for both transcendently pure talent and a preternatural ability to create drama and leave emotional wreckage wherever they go. And so forth.^ Adele is Tim Duncan, which at first sounds like an insult - nobody aspires to be Tim Duncan. Outside of central Texas, Tim Duncan was not a cool player. His signature move was a bank shot off the glass. Tim Duncan was your granddad's favorite player because he "played the right way." Tim Duncan also won. A lot. More than Kobe and LeBron, depending on how you define winning. Hopefully the parallels to Adele are apparent at this point. She's perhaps the least flashy popstar of the 21st century, eschewing the trappings of the Greater Madonna Diaspora (synth-driven compositions, group dance numbers, explicitly sexual provocation) in favor of live instrumentation (or as much as that can be a thing in the Pro Tools era, anyway), unabashedly old-fashioned songwriting, and her powerhouse soul voice. She's her generation's Dusty, with designs on being her generation's Aretha. And the craziest thing is how understated it all seems; she seems to be just doing what she normally does and then you look up at the scoreboard and she has 30 and 15, so to speak. Of course I'm familiar with Adele's panoply of hits - "Rolling in the Deep" is one of the last great female-driven *rock* songs to become a hit maybe ever, and the other singles aren't far behind. But I did not expect this whole album to work as well as it does. I typically like my pop more of the power variety, and while I understand the impulse to go "stripped down" (scare quotes intentional) from a production standpoint I can't shake the feeling that a little more sonic variation is needed here; parts of this could have used a more authentically primitivist, less audibly digital approach. But if that's my biggest criticism then there's a lot of success happening. Even the album tracks are strong; "One and Only" is a gem, with a grand and moving coda that pushes the song into Stones/London Bach Choir territory. And her cover of the Cure's "Lovesong" turns gracefully inward on itself, becoming a Nineties lounge-R&B tune that wouldn't have been out of place on a Braxton or Blige album. In the years since *21* it's become somewhat fashionable to mock Adele for making an album that everyone's grandparents bought; some of that is probably sour grapes at the fact that she made way more money from her sales than did streaming-centric artists with similar numbers, but more fundamentally it's unfair to judge her by the same standards as her pop contemporaries. She was going for something timeless, and I think she succeeded. This is about the best classic Motown R&B album it was possible to make in 2011. Sometimes the olds are right. ^Why yes, I do have a bunch of Chuck Klosterman books on my shelf, why do you ask?
You can’t beat a bit of Adele such a bop in the shower. Her voice is just incredible and the lyrics are so catchy.
I really enjoyed returning to 21! It had been a hot minute since I’d listened to any Adele to be frank, but this album is still that good. I immediately followed in up with 19, because for some reason I thought that was the “better” album, but 21 blows it out of the water.
don't think I've ever listened to an Adele album in full before so this was pretty cool! You don't need me to say that the songs are pretty good and sound equally great in 2026 as 2011. Gotta shout out Rumour Has It as probably the most interesting and fun track here, and also the middle of One and Only really impressed me. I also just think it's hard to beat the power of Rolling In The Deep as a tidal wave of a song. It is a lot of similar sounding and paced songs in a row, though
adele voice, words amazing. emotional
Adele never disappoints. Her way to portray heartbreak and betrayal is beautiful
She’s amazing. Banger after banger. And written when she was 21. Incredible
Superb. Great singer songwriter album.
So many nostalgic songs on here. Really love her voice and defiantly puts me in a mood. Some of the songs get a little repetitive but very solid
Pretty good
I listened to Adele's *21* this morning. Some of the tracks sounded familiar; they are great pop songs. Her voice sounds damn good, and the strings give the music wonderful depth. I really like the track "Don't You Remember" because of the sighing guitar. I wouldn't say the album is going to become one of my favorites, but it makes for very enjoyable listening.
I enjoyed this album much more than I anticipated (the joy of 1001). Her version of Longsong reveals similarities with Robert Smith, evident in her song writing - beauty in pain and sadness. An unexpected 4 stars.
Great voice and a very good songwriter
Perfect album for me today
So much emotion and soul!
I really loved this album at one time. I am not sure it has aged well. Adele’s voice is beautiful but already showing strain from improper use. The endless big songs of heartbreak that used to move me feel less full and too careful in their production. I love her cover of Lovesong, but it reminds me that Robert Smith is a consummate song writer and Adele is a… vocalist with a largely untrained instrument. But then… the closer. Someone Like You is a great song. For me, this song is worth a lot of slosh. It’s probably on my list of all time greats/ best songs of all time. I’ve never experienced first hand its sorrow, none the less, it brings tears to my eyes every time. It stands well against the cover of Lovesong. The two together end the album in an amazing way. And this is, perhaps, the high point of Adele’s creativity. At 21. 4 Boolean: True
I actually think that I've never heard this album in its entirety. Though most of the songs are recognisable, still some feel new. A highlight for me is "Don't you remember". What a track. And of course a cover of The Cure and a good one at that. Yeah, this is gonna be a 4.0 for me.
Yep, labai jautrus, gražus albumas.
Never dived into the whole album just the hits - nice to be reminded she’s a powerhouse
Man, Dan Wilson can write a song.
On the edge of a five-star rating!
Lots of popular songs
Nice album, great voice and melodies.
Leuk om weer eens te horen. Goed album
🔝🔝🔝
Good album, good voice. Rightfully blew up 4/5
I like Adele. Rolling in the deep is a fave
banger after banger
Completely inescapable my pre-teen/early teenage years anywhere there was a radio and/or a piano and a kid who could manage the chord progression in “Someone Like You”. Makes me almost nostalgic
Top notch! Brit- Motown.
solid album I actually know more songs on it then I thought
Me encanta
Adele set the world on fire with this record. Full of huge hits that seemingly everyone knows. Rollin' in the Deep and Rumour Has It were played on rock radio stations. Was a monumental album. Set Fire to the Rain is an insane closer. I also really enjoyed The Cure cover of Lovesong
This was much better than I was expecting. I understand why it sold a zillion copies and earned a ton of Grammys
If this album came my way in 2020, I would have cried my ass out. Now I just enjoy living with the nostalgia it holds.
Hoping for more Adele. Not her best album.
That Adele lady can certainly sing eh.
