Just an amazing voice.
February 7, 2025 HL: “Rolling”, “Rumour”, “Someone”, “One and Only”, the Cure cover
A modern classic
This is WAY better than I thought it was going to be, mostly because I only know of Adele from the hype. What a great voice. Such excellent songwriting, blistering intensity tempered with some beautiful smoothness. Big production. Great musicianship, but doesn't overshadow the singer. Usually not my cup of stylistic tea, but I was bowled over.
Very nice
Great vocals and awesome hits. You can’t go wrong!
Having only listened to the hits before I actually enjoyed a bunch of the other tracks on here. The hits are obviously hits, but they've also almost been played to death. I found the album soulfull/emotional and vocally strong. Standouts Rumor Has It Turning Tables Set Fire to the Rain One And Only 4/5
Not near as bad as I remembered actually enjoyable. I'm sorry I judged you so harshly Adele
A story of love and heartbreak. I enjoyed this album more than I expected and the hits hit hard. Rumor has it he's the one I'm leaving you for!
Wow. Great album. Would listen to again
Grew up with this release, features some all-time hits from Adele like "Set Fire to the Rain", "Someone Like You", and "Rolling in the Deep". Adele's vocals are impressive, and this album is about heartbreak - sung in an emotional and cathartic way.
Voc.Pop, 2011 -> 4
Huge part of my childhood, love Adele. Rolling in the Deep has an amazing chorus and production; Rumour Has It is great as well. Don’t You Remember has a key change (I believe) and it overall enhances the song. Set Fire to the Rain is amazing; the beginning, the chorus, and her vocal performance are highlights. He Won’t Go is the weakest of the first half of the album; its bare but it still has a decent chorus. Take It All is similarly bare but has a heartfelt vocal performance from Adele and a great piano part. I’ll be Waiting is a return to a more broad and grand style that was seen in the earlier half of the album; the piano is super groovy and the drum beat is as well. One and Only is sweet; need to listen it more, I can barely remember the chorus. Lovesong is ok. Someone like you is great with a memorable chorus and production. The last track is ok but fitting the album’s themes. Overall the album highlights Adele’s voice, even if it is somewhat inconsistent with the quality of the tracks, it’s still enjoyable. Initial listen: 8/10 or 4/5.
Better than I expected. Standout track: Rumour Has It
Not my cup of tea for go-to listening, but the talent here is undeniable. And at such a young age. Clearly she’s got the pipes to sing, and with at least three solid hits here…that combination alone deserves high marks.
With an undeniable collection of bangers, it’s hard to argue that 21 isn’t peak Adele. I remember how huge this album was, but reading through the list of accolades was still impressive. A bit on the commercial side for me, but this is top tier pop music.
Girl can sing! + Massive hits with Rolling in the Deep, Fire to Rain and Someone Like You - some songs drive me crazy (fuck Rumor Has it and her saying that over and over and over….) +/- Then a lot that I feel is incredibly well performed but I just don’t know that they’re that memorable. But the hits are just so massive that I gotta give the benefit of the doubt.
News flash: Adele can sing! Bangers galore. Drags a bit for my taste but can’t deny this songstress at the top of her game. 4/5
Great album, one I really enjoy. Adele has a such a good voice it’s hard to dislike it.
Monta hyvää biisiä, jotkut vähän lässähtää
This album really surprised me. I was familiar with some of her hits, but didn’t know that almost all of the ones I’d heard are from this album. Her voice is phenomenal and the production values are right there with it. I could definitely see this being a 5 for some people it’s just not quite there for me personally.
4 stars
more like 3.75
Going in expecting generic pop music with a great singer from what I had already heard, I was proven wrong, the album cuts are absolutely amazing, in my opinion better than the singles but that also could just be the fact I’ve heard them for a good 15 years now in the grocery store
Definitely a catchy album and I remember this exploding when it was released. I have never sat down to listen to it from start to finish and it was actually pretty good. Her voice is distinct and powerful and carries all of these songs. I would say a 3.5 but I’m feeling generous so I’ll go 4.
Goodie.
Britain's finest export. I'd have a pint with Adele, she seems a right laugh. But dayumn does she have pipes.
Hadn’t realised just how good this would be. Great from start to finish.
Really powerful album with a ton of hits.
Very good. Tad sad at end.
Still gorgeous
Probably Adele's best. Honestly, I like it. It's soulful (but not Soulful) and the songwriting is pretty relatable. The music itself isn't particularly challenging or edgy, but it isn't trying to be and I think there is space for that.
love adele
Per other Adele albums, there is just too many overdramatic tracks. I don't think this matches my personality very well. However, when it works like on "Someone Like You", wow! It can really be a revelation. The other not-so-great melodramatic tracks reminded a bit of some of those same kinds of tracks by Queen. I actually was way more into the uptempo tracks. "Rolling in the Deep" and "Rumour Has It" are 2 amazing opening tracks that really got me bopping. I also enjoyed "He Won't Go". The "Lovesong" cover really caught me off-guard. I was not expecting it and not sure I ever heard it before. Great cover and tune. Overall, this album has enough going for it and might be my favorite Adele album.
It’s simple and heavy. Her voice is big but not overdone. Kind of like Amy Winehouse, but with less chaos and more focus. The sound feels like it belongs in another decade, but it works here too. It’s straightforward and emotional in a way that’s hard to ignore.
Truly on the great albums if our generstion, however it was all I heard on the radio at one point so I'm a bit tired of the songs.
I think I'm a little burnt out on Rolling in the Deep when it was all that played during COVID. Still, great vocals and unique experience from Adele.
I’ve always liked Adele but there were some dull songs here.
She has an amazing voice. This album is littered with hits, but it's way more of a pop album than I wanted (I don't know why I expected otherwise). I guess I was hoping for soul? A 3 feels too low, but I don't think this is quite a 4? I guess that will do, though.
Several great hits on this album! Excellent voice, nice catchy melodic hooks, nice production.. pretty overplayed for a while there, but glad I never listened to Adele too much so I could enjoy this album today. 4/5
4 Sterne
Honestly, pretty fucking good. It’s overplayed, but I’m happy that I never listened fully when it first came out so I can enjoy it more now. It’s not the songwriting, that’s clear, but I can’t be deaf to the singing. It’s on a level not often heard.
I've of course heard Adele, but i had never really listened to her. Going in i figured i would think this is boring over produced trash. I was wrong. This was much better than that. Really good tunes that I could see putting on again.
This is an excellent album where Adelr g Ave a vocal masterclass. Perhaps if she'd been singing in the 70s this would be a 5 star album but it's a little overproduced for our tastes at points. Still very strong with a lot of her best tracks.
adele
I never got really into Adele, but I can't deny that she cranks out great songs. Her melodies, her voice, the piano -- it's all good. I liked ~4 of the tracks on this album.
Like angry Adele more than sad ballad Adele. Waffled on if this was a 3 or 4, but I like this more than her other album we listened to, which I gave a 3, so I'll round up this time
A ja gospel lubię. You go gurl
Some of these songs I’ve heard way too much, but it was nice to hear them in context of this debut, which is excellent. You can certainly hear her vintage influences, but they’re packaged in a modern take with a poise and knowing that is wise beyond her years.
Quite good 4
Bangers. Like some of the less popular more than the big ones.
Rumour has it this album is fire
Very good
went into this one a little skeptical. Enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Already familiar with the singles, but was impressed how well the whole album comes together. No filler to pad out the hits, just solid music.
It's Adele, she's excellent. Can get a bit samey listening as a whole
Excellent singing.
The songs I had previously already heard are still phenomenal stand outs. The songs that were new to me are alright, not bad, but not special compared to the others. The cover of lovesong was an unexpected good postmodern take.
powerhouse pop perfection. these songs have weight again now that i'm not hearing them on the radio 5x an hour. the memories of overexposure kill my desire to listen to this again on purpose but i completely get how this was a must-buy record at the time.
Adele innit
Amazing voice classic songs.
Boring, but deep
Is very good but does sound a bit too much like heart radio
It’s Led Zeppelin. Probably enough said. Not a bad listen. "Kashmir" definitely stands out as a particularly good track. I would definitely listen to this again. Double album though so it’s just a lot in one sitting.
Have listened to songs on this album before but never all the way through, was cool to hear the songs on headphones for the first time which added to the experience
I’ve never really listened to Adele. I’ve heard some songs but never listen to a lot of her music. I like it. She’s a more polished Janis Joplin. Very soulful.
I remember when Rolling in the Deep came out. It was all the rage and felt like such a unique and cool pop song. I've never been on the Adele hype train. I appreciate how talented she is as a vocalist but I've never really been into her songs. I do think that she's a step up from the generic/algorithmic pop though.
FAVO:Rumour has it, Burning Tables, Don't you remember, One and only
Not my favorite genre but the lady can't sure wail
Yeah her voice is good. Yeah this shit is bland as fuck shopping mall music. But if I told you I wouldn't absolutely belt the chorus of some of these hits anytime anyplace then I would be a big old liar.
If we could do half stars, I'd totally give this 4.5. It's fantastic!
What a performance. Adele is iconic. This is proper pop.
No one can sing like her. No one. She’s in a class by herself.
Man Rolling in the Deep is such a good song! As much as i like that song and adele in general, 4 stars
Great voice with iconic tracks
This probably would have been a 3 for me, but her excellent vocal performance always elevates the music to another level. The result is a well-produced pop album with decent songwriting and some incredible singing. It's also undeniably one of the best break-up albums ever made. 4 stars
Great album every time you listen to it it makes you get inside your own feelings think about life
4 hits and everything else was fine. The hits don’t feel as fresh since I’ve heard them everywhere but still good.
I think this is a lot better than the other Adele album we got and I really like it and she’s got a gorgeous voice but I don’t think it’s a 5
7/10 - I kind of forgot how good some of these songs are. The first two tracks are obvious bangers alongside set fire to the rain. I know someone like you is popular but it did not hit that hard on this listen. The biggest surprise for me was turning tables, I hadn't heard it before and it was very good.
If I'd heard this album before it was flogged to death all over the world I might have liked it more, except for couple of yawners. Adele is a big talent as a songwriter and singer and this is a powerful album.
Great voice
Exceptional
rolling in the deep - nice guitar strum, big kick/toms, tambourine, clap along section, nice piano rumour has it - oohs in the background, tempo change in the middle with piano and strings, piano trill, then returns to first tempo, good piano outro turning tables - I like this piano intro very ballad like, strings in the background, violin outro which sounds a bit haunting at the end don't you remember - soft intro with guitar, smooth introduction to drums, bass strum, I really like that key change set fire to the rain - reverbed toms in the background, feel very therapeutic sounding, beautiful strings he won't go - I like that high piano chords played delayed, tambourine, active bass lines, nice vocal layering, nice drums rhythms, background vocals, I like that stringed instrument in the background that's very light, I like the switch from "I won't go" to "he won't go", nice piano outro take it all - another ballad sounding song, I like the choir like background vocals I'll be waiting - drums fade in, prominent bass line one and only - organ in chorus, piano, organ changes to a higher octave, chord changes in bridge with just piano and bass, crescendo at end of bridge lovesong - guitar in left ear, other guitar in right, playing two different melodies, vocals in middle, drums come in, synth in background?, I like this slower tempo, strings introduced, this is my favourite song from the album someone like you - a piano ballad to end, feels very reflective, nice piano outro
I was surprised to learn that I much prefer the ballads to the songs that were pop hits! Some of the pop mixing already sounds dated, and it’s only a decade old. But you can’t deny, Adele has some pipes.
Yeah this one has the hits. I like this one better than 25.
This album was nostalgic for me. I was a teenager when Adele became very popular so it was to listen to something I used to as a kid.
Great Album with very emotional Songs. Sadly not my kind of music.
Some enormous and good tunes in here, I was considering this for top marks however a couple of songs let it down.
Like others have said, the bangers are bangers. I thought the lesser known tracks would be worse. Apart from Rolling in the Deep then album started off weak for me but everything from Set Fire to the rain onwards was descent.
Really enjoyed “someone like you”
The album started with a 5-star track, had another one in the middle and another one in the end, but the rest were 3.5 and 4-star songs. I hadn't listened to Adele's full albums, but singing-wise - incredible. Overall enjoyability, pretty good and because I am rating the full album, I am bringing the rating down slightly.
4.5/5
Adele is an artist that I can tell makes fantastic music. I just would never listen to it on my own. But this was a great listen. Underrated Track: Don't You Remember
21 on minun drum n bass playlistin nimi.. miksi hän käyttäisi tätä nimeä albumissa? copycat? omg so young artist.... meikäläinen oli tekemässä vähän isoompia asioita tuonnikäisenä... paljonko tytteli penkkaa... prkl.prkl.....................prkl............ aaaaaaaaghhhhh..... rrrräyh....... rräyh....... suututtaa tommone... pistää vihaksi tommone... satatann TSIILE.... cmooon brassit... eieiei EIEIEIIEIEIEIIE TSIILE EIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII........ braaaasilia,... brassi brassi brassit!!! ei voi ei eiiii EIIII EIIIIIIII TSIIIIIIIILEEEE EEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII i set faar...... tothrain..

I actually like this one more than I thought. I haven’t really listened to Adele since this first came out, so it was fun to come back to some of these old songs that were popular when I was a kid. 4/5
Big one! Probably my favorite Adele album, though it doesn't have my favorite Adele song ("Chasing Pavements"). I'm honestly shocked that "Rolling in the Deep" and "Someone Like You" are on the same album, as singles they were only released two months apart but in my mind they are two completely different Adele eras, not sure why. I never liked "Rolling in the Deep," but some serious bangers on here, especially "Set Fire to the Rain" and "Lovesong." I didn't know she did a cover of "Lovesong," and it made me realize she would or could be a fantastic cover artist. Her music is a bit bland, but she's got an exceptional voice - pair that with classic songs, you've got gold. Favorite tracks: Set Fire to the Rain, Lovesong, Someone Like You, Rumour Has It, Turning Tables, He Won't Go. Album art: All of her albums are just portrait shots. This one's arguably her most memorable, but really just because the album was so huge. It's fine. 4/5
Can't believe I hadn't listened to this one before. Golden voice she has there. Even 13 years later these songs are hits.
Fav: Turning Tables, Someone Like You
This was huge back in the day. And look some of them are great to sing along to.
It’s a shame this has been played to death. But it’s no wonder it was a sensation. Quality pop music, unique voice, extraordinary talent. Shocking for someone so young. The Cure cover is a nice surprise. Some of the songs are a bit typical, but overall, this is pretty remarkable. 4/5
Adele has a beautiful, soulful voice. Personal enjoyment: 4/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
Loved her for years. Good stuff
Pretty solid album, diverse enough to be interesting all the way through, singing is very soulful and the keyboards are really nice
I think this is Adele's best album.
Like her voice and only 21 years old
So lovely, so many hits. Can't believe she made this at 21.
-I saw a tweet yesterday which called Adele the number one white woman of all time… while listening to this album I found myself starting to agree. I have heard a few songs from here before but the deep cuts are good too. A definitive 4.5, I just wish I could do half-stars -Favorites are Rolling In The Deep, Rumour Has It, He Won’t Go, and I’ll Be Waiting

82 - 4,10 Catchy and emotional, most of the songs share similar mood, good vocals, decent instrumentation.
Ver gud
This is a fat banger of an album Probably feeling an 82-92 as of rn
Such a great album- I'm glad to get something a little different today.
Well crafted album. I was not excited when this came up on my day but found it much more enjoyable than expected. yes there are several songs on here that were unavoidable and burned into our ears but i did find myself suprised by her cover of lovesong. not an album that will ever be in heavy rotation for me but definitely one that i can see how many people identify with it and rhe artist.
Adele knows how to do one thing and it is to serve
Adele is a sort of guilty pleasure for me - love her voice, tone lyrics - just great. I listened to this album twice and added three songs to my Liked list. Not sure which is better, this or 24 - I'll give the edge to 25.
Nice with something modern for a change. Adele sure has a very good voice, and this album contains a few of her most known songs. It is a very emotional record for sure, and I read that she wrote it during and after breaking up with her boyfriend. For me it gets a bit samey after a while, basically every song is about heartbreak in various forms and I lost track how many times the word "Love" was mentioned. For whatever reason I don't feel sucked into the music and I find it a bit hard to relate and connect, but maybe that's more on me than on her. Overall solid record, but maybe not entirely my type of music. Still, a very good modern album and it's insane that she made this when she was 21 considering how mature and good it sounds.
Maybe one of the first newish album that isn't someone who started in the 90s on this list? Still it's a very safe choice as it's one of the best selling albums of the 21st century. First things first, Adele has a very, very good voice and utilises it well during the whole album. Kicking of with "Rolling in the Deep" and "Rumor Has It" is a great start. A thing that I hadn't noticed before is how much this is inspired by root and gospel music. The album takes a bit of a dip towards the middle with only "Set Fire to the Rain" being memorable. It does however finish on a high-note with "Somebody like you" The album has many hits but becomes a bit samey, 5 star singing but will settle on a 4 star as the songs lacks some breadth and depth. Another thing I noticed is Rick Rubin had a finger in the album production, I wonder how many albums he has produced on this list.
God Adele has a good voice. I wish that the backing behind her boiled was more consistently compelling. Often on this album it feels like an afterthought. Still, I have a hard time giving her a low rating, when she is probably one of the best voices of her generation.
The best-selling album of the 21st century. A number one album in countries as diverse as Brazil and Denmark, South Africa and Mexico, Argentina and Hungary. 21 seems simple in its premise: a break-up album with rare occasions for other topics. If you take a step back and think about it as a piece of art written by one person about another, it is deeply personal - yet it resonates with a good chunk of the world. I guess most people have been through a relationship breaking down (?) The guy-who-is-everywhere-but-nowhere, Rick Rubin, was supposed to produce the entire album, but in the end only produced 3 songs I believe. Adele chose to keep the more raw-sounding versions she had created with other producers during or just after her break up. Indeed, she was told to add some layers to Someone Like You, the simple piano and vocals deemed to be too little. Thankfully she decided to retain it as is. It's hard to overstate the universal success this album was, winning awards left and right, breaking sales records, across many countries. The music itself is a refreshing mix of styles, from soul to country to ballad and a few things in between. I had forgotten how good it was (and indeed, think it builds beautifully on 19). Turning Tables is a special song, I really felt a wealth of emotions when listening to it. Other honourable metions are: Take it All I'll be Waiting One and Only Lovesong (a cover of The Cure! Very well done) Someone Like You Indeed, the "b-side" of this album is popular music at its absolute finest. First side is slightly less interesting but still shows moments of brillance. Nostalgia factor is very high on this too, I remember listening to it when I was a kid, played on repeat by both my mother and father. A solid 4.2 stars. Beautiful stuff. (P.S., in a true random fashion, this album came up for me the day after Adele's 25. This album is on a completely different level to that) (P.S.S., I was going to give this 5* but a weekend of reflection brings it down to 4)
This is quite good. A powerful, lovely voice, but is it horrible to say it gets a bit wearisome after awhile? And does she write just lyrics or does she do some of the music as well? Still, a solid 4.
Maybe a 3.5 rounded up. But a lot of fun songs here and some good ballads too
I remember the radio playing the absolute piss outta the singles from this album back when I was in high school. As a result, I sort of despised Adele by association. In retrospect, that didn't seem fair to the artist as they themselves don't necessarily control radio play. Listening to this album in full now with more open ears just confirms the enormous talent of Adele. Starting with the signature single of hers that everyone has heard, "Rolling in the Deep", it is as emotionally charged as I remember it, complete with authoritative vocals from Adele. The rest of the album continues to explore failed romantic relationships, along with the healing and introspection that comes after. The piano ballad "Turning Tables" is a beautiful example of this introspection, as well as the more optimistic "I'll Be Waiting". Everything culminates with the powerful "Someone Like You" as the album closer. There is some musical range here. Soul is in the forefront, but there are tinges of R&B, gospel, and even country. Heartbreak-inspired songs and albums generally come off as trite to me, but a select few can add to and sell it well, and I think Adele is among those acts here. Her commanding presence via her voice bears strong resemblances to certain women of soul from the past. Even more impressive considering this was only her second album. I'd put this in my personal top 10 pop albums from the 2010s.
There's a few songs I don't care for, but more songs that I think are great. Rolling in the Deep was huge and rightfully so. It really packs a punch
For every undeniable timeless adult contemporary classic banger there is also a dud that really feels so much like a studio-pushed afterthought to make the album with "those famous songs" also have other songs. Yay for "Set Fire to the Rain" or "Turning Tables", nay for "Don't You Remember" or "I'll Be Waiting".
Do people go to Adele concerts to cry and hug each other? There’s a couple upbeat songs but even they have hints of despair. Adele has masterful control of her gorgeous voice but the genre wears me out more than the constant radio play Rumor Has It received.
Adele has a very striking voice, but for me it can be too much at times. I took a break midway through the album and came back to it and appreciated it more. This album has several of her best-known songs.
An enjoyable album, but has really suffered from its own success. Been very overplayed on radios and in adverts
Awesome album. Favourites- rolling in the deep, rumor has it, turning tables, set fire to the rain, love song, someone like you
What A Voice.
Good
Viele Hits.
It's pretty good. Her voice is amazing. I will always remember the first time I heard her was when she did Chasing Pavements on SNL and I was blown away by her vocal talent. This album has some good songs but a lot of them just bum me out and have been played to death. That's not fair to hold that against her but I'm really fatigued by the hits at this point.
Another one of my favorite sophomore albums - Turning Tables deserves more attention.
I thought she was like 40 when this came out and even though I have since put it together that she was ‘21’ I still have trouble connecting the voice to basically a kid. I have historically never been much of an Adele fan. I think she’s got a singular voice, but her music has always seemed a little boring to me. Lounge music that lacks that sparkle that makes things special to me, idk why. Still packed with hits though so hard to give it below a 4
I've never heard a complete Adele record before. I had heard a couple of songs in the radio, and I liked a few, but with the time her last songs didnt really impressed me, but this did. Is a very strong record, in which the main attractive is Adele's amazing voice, which is strong but soft at the same time. Her voice, is accompained with some interesting instrumentals. In this album Adele collaborates with many producers and musicians, like Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic and Paul Epworth; which have credits on some songs, but the ones that bring the magic on 21 are the guitarist Matt Sweeney (Skunk and Zwan's guitarist) and pianist Neil Cowley, who complement perfectly Adele's voice. In this album, Adele's lyrics mainly focus on her recent breakup, and how, as the album goes on, she starts to heal. I cannot really relate to what she's sayin, and after a few songs the theme starts being repetitive and boring, which is one of the things I disliked from the album. The other thing I disliked is that, just like this recors has some amazing songs, there are other ones that feel very boring and weak in comparison to the singles, which are very good (even though I think "Someone like you is EXTREMELY overrated). Overall I think I likes this album, it has great vocals, good instrumentals and has to be considered among the greatest pop albums of the 2010's.
Wonderful voice. Not something I’d choose to listen to, but that’s just my taste.
Not really one for me, but it's not hard to see the talent, and why so many love it. Album is a bit mixed, there are some weak songs to go with the obvious standouts. 3.5 🌟? I'm going to be uncool and round it up to 4.
3.5
- Very tempted to give this 5 stars, because the first half is just that good. Multiple great tracks and it all builds to the combo of the epic "Set Fire to the Rain" and the enticing "He Won't Go." - I admittedly lose some interest in the second half...not sure if it is more a result of the genre or my own tastes? - The first album of this kind I have gotten on the list. I hope there are more like this that break the mold a bit.
Superb
Så otroligt många bra spår.
Some great songs on here!
Klässik after classic
I was coming in to this album to hate it, but dammit, I have call a spade a spade and admit this album is pretty damn good. I was around 6 years old when this album came out and my family used to play the radio a lot so I heard some of these songs a lot, mainly from my mom and sister, and it drove me insane and I would avoid trying to listen to it and because of that it lead to me listen to heavier stuff or songs that were the antithesis of the kind of the music this was like rap, metal, electronic etc. But now that I am older and have developed a more eclectic and can appreciate pop songs like this and more, man I can't deny how good Adele and this album is. The fact that someone with this much emotion, raw power with her vocals, and can make songs this intimate and then it becomes the highest selling album of the 21st century is crazy. There is no song on here I would call vapid or distinguish like other pop songs of this time and later one. She knows how to write catchy hooks and also make it incredibly devastating like with Set Fire to the Rain. In conclusion, if you hated something as a kid, look back at it and see if it's change because 9 times out of 10, you were too naive to really appreciate it.
Rolling In The Deep Rumor Has It Set Fire To The Rain He Won't Go One And Only Lovesong (cover) Someone Like You
Middle school shower bangers all over the place
What a strong album. It's nice to see her evolve since this time in terms of style and themes, but it's not hard to see why this remains the top-selling album of the 21st century. I feel like I've heard many of the songs on this album before, but don't mind at all hearing them again, and I enjoyed the songs I wasn't familiar with either. I do wish for her sake, though, that she didn't continue to experience so much heartbreak in her life, even if she has a gift of transforming the pain into soulful music. I think my favorites are "Set fire to the rain", "Someone like you" and "Rolling in the deep" (especially the latter's video, which is mesmerizing), which perhaps not coincidentally seem to be *everyone's* favorites. I also like her version of the Cure's "Lovesong". I also cheated and now see that we'll also get her album "25"--it's nice to know that this isn't the only Adele we'll get in this collection.
Rolling in the Deep, Someone Like You, I'll Be Waiting, and the cover of the Cure's Lovesong are terrific. Elswehere I think she oversells it but small complaint. I don't think this album is overproduced but her voice, persona, everything is so huge that I'd love to hear her in an even more laidback role.
5/11, 45%
This comes with a lot of nostalgia. Nothing groundbreaking, but enjoyable. Adele’s voice is just so beautiful.
Un tema memorable tras otro
amazing how someone so young can be so mature and fully formed as an artist and vocalist.
Great album - and not all maudlin by any means!
Er zit een knip tussen de eerste "now" en "rumour has it" en het is mokerirritant Nostalgia kicks in
Brilliant vox (obviously) but for me I can't help but feel like it's missing a lot of OOMPH from a lack of low end in places. Could have been five stars otherwise
I was receptive to this one today. The wife loved it, even back in 2011, and I can see why it was such a hit back in the day.
It’s amazing how many hits she got in on this one album.
Great album to showcase the best vocalist of the last 20 years. The range and power of Adele's voice is amazing, and I love the raw emotion and vulnerability in the lyrics on several of these tracks.
Starts off so strong. I prefer the more powerful songs over the ballads. Good listen though for sure
Somehow I had avoided listening to the biggest selling UK album of the 21st century until now, and it’s a remarkable piece of work. Written by Adele when she was just 21 (hence the title) in the aftermath of what sounds like a toxic relationship with a much older man, it naturally deals with pain, heartache and redemption. Musically, it’s a mix of genres but I found that I preferred the simpler tracks with the highpoint for me being ‘I Found a Boy’
rollin in the deep front lods the album rest is okay
Favorite Tracks: Set Fire to the Rain Rolling in the Deep Someone Like You
Great album, but a bit too cheesy for my taste.
Bona-fide classic
When this first popped up I was convinced we’d done it already. Turns out that was 25, an album I was mostly underwhelmed by. This one is significantly better, and I mean significantly. Adele has a powerhouse voice, which was used to middling effect on 25, mostly on ballads. The songs on here are harder, like pure pop goodness. Definite recommend.
Pilly approves (so do I)
I was familiar with the hits before and didn't mind them, but didn't pay them much attention. The songwriting and emotion here is genuine, playing up strong influences in R&B, without being inauthentic. If I knew there was a Cure cover, I would've checked it out a lot sooner. Well-done on that.
Holy shit... I don't know what I was anticipating, but this is great. I generally avoid pop music so despite knowing her name I was unfamiliar with most of her music before listening to this album. Her voice has an undeniable power in its quality, and her control over it suggests a discipline that I feel many vocalists will never achieve. Even musically, this is elevated well above standard pop. I can hear nods to classic soul, r&b, and even Americana/outlaw country underneath much of this. Despite the varied influences it never sounds like an experiment, and never makes the album feel erratic. Instead, using those influences to create a unique sound. Nothing here is accidental and it shows.
She is an amazing singer, but this is way too sappy for me.
Bever knew I'd enjoy this album as much as I did. Knew almost all songs and the ones I didn't surprised me very pleasantly!
Ya know, I really don't care for Adele in a general sense. I hear her music and I can respect the talent, but generally speaking something about the whole package has turned me off. That said, I'm now 3/4 of the way through this album and I couldn't tell you where this feeling originates. As I listen straight through, I find myself enjoying song after song. They are at once catchy AF, soulful, and packed full of amazing vocal performances. And yet, even though I enjoyed this album, I have zero desire to dig further into her discography. I'm not sure what that says about me. This is a strong 4 / 5.
Adele is not my jam but she is really talented. The album is really well done. Set fire to the rain is probably my favorite. 4 stars.
Another great Adele album that really showcases her pipes. This one had a bit more going on in the background than "25", but it still hit similar highs for me.
Rollin in the Deep was the absolute jam my freshman year of college. This album is another depiction of Adele's booming pipes. Not much more to say other than this is another great album by her. I couldn't listen to her everyday, but I am always happy when her songs come up. That version of Lovesong was very interesting I didn't know that she made one. I accidentally gave her last album 25 a 3 when it should have been a 4. This one is a very solid 4.
Adele is always one I never seek out but I've heard a ton and can dig her voice. Did not expect a Cure cover on here. + points because apparently like Brandon, I'm a fan. Had this on while working but damn she has some pipes. So much emotion in that voice it almost gets exhausting listening to a whole album. The classics I knew sounded even better with headphones and the unknowns were a pleasant joy. Set Fire to the Rain was my favorite.
Adele is one of the earliest musicians I remember recognizing on the radio. I remember my mom purchasing the CD for 21 and often playing it in the car. Revisiting, I think the songs are still fresh and powerful. I think Adele was pivotal in diversifying pop music in the 2010s, it broke up the monotony of Kelly Clarksons and Mariah Careys. This album starts out very strong with rolling in the deep and rumor has it, demonstrating right away her willingness to stray from one style. Set fire to the rain is the emotional climax of the album and the closing track someone like you is a powerful closer. This album was an instant classic for good reason, great production and great vocals. I'm unlikely to revisit but I can't deny the project of this album and how successfully it delivers.
Reminded me of the adele/skrillex dubstep mashup (Posted Jun 12, 2011): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=md1QECWVRHs Listening to this mashup again, it isn't as good as I remembered.
The top songs of 2011: Party Rock Anthem - LMAFO Gimme Everything - Pitbull/Neyo Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5/Christina Aguilera Last Friday Night - Katie Perry In the middle of all this garbage Adelle released this soulful album that charted 5 mega hits. It's banger after banger of well composed, deep songs about love and hurt. Maybe the best album of 2011. I'll never listen to it again.
8/10 She has an incredible voice and the arrangements are great. 5-10-2024
wonderful 4 stars!
I hadn't listened to this in years, I forgot how good the non-singles were. I really enjoyed He Won't Go and I'll Be Waiting Today. Someone Like You remains a GOAT breakup anthem.
Expected to hate this, and was wrong, because this album kinda rules. Nothing but hits!
Hard to believe all those hits came from the same album. One of the greatest sophomore albums out there.
A modern classic. Will be played at galas until the end of time.
Incredible album with a lot of hit songs. Adele has an incredible voice. Enjoyed this from start to finish. I hadn't listened to "He won't go" before and I especially enjoyed this track along with all the other hit songs.
30.04.24 Faves: - Rolling in the Deep - Rumor Has It - Set Fire to the Rain - Lovesong - Someone Like You Opinion: I've known Adele before and enjoyed it. Really good album. Amazing voice.
Like some of the tunes here. Easy listening
Some of these sound familiar… very solid packaged together tho. I hope she’s doing okay.
Mostly great Soul-pop. A lot of memories coming up with "someone like you".
Brilliant.
There is so much power in that voice. And emotional expression: just listen to Someone like you.
I knew several of these songs, of course -- everyone does. But I'd never listened to the whole album, and it turns out it's really pretty great. Good songs, good arrangements, good sonics -- just a really fun experience.
Adele's voice is something else. Great pop album of 2010's. Some worldwide hits, but I was also surprised by Lovesong cover
Adele has a hell of a voice, and she writes a great song too. This album starts off with a blast with Rolling In the Deep, but it keeps up the energy well 4/5
Powerful voice overlaid with powerful and vibe matching composition. Adele’s range is incredible. Great album, top 500 easy
Adele is undoubtedly a talented vocalist. 21 is mostly emotional piano ballads, several of which became well-known hits. A bit of extra variety would make the album a little better, but it's still fantastic.
21 a great album from a great artist. Not my type of music, but still very appreciated! 4.5/5
Can’t hate Adele
25 is more consistent, but there's too many hits here to ignore
Just like 25 this was definitely Adele. It was definitely good. She will still age well. All this said Adele does kinda make the same album over and over so I don’t have a lot to say. But hey it’s a good album. Best song: Someone Like You
Bangers
I got this album right after Suzanne Vega. I think Vega would have gotten a lower rating if the order had been flipped. Adele's vocals are just amazing.
Liked this far more than I thought I was going to. Rumour has it = banger Someone Like you = beautiful, heartfelt song
Wenn mein lokaler Musiksender "Someone Like You" spielt (also mind. Heute mal 4 Sternchen.
There are several deserved hits on this album, but I appreciated listening to the album through, as I discovered a few softer songs that still showcased her rich voice well. I tired of the repeated theme a little, of nothing but relationships, but I think it's also fair that that was probably a theme in her life at that time too so it makes sense.
Have never listened to before. Quite liked it. Soulful. Catchy. Still not bothered about seeing her live though.
Although I haven't listened to Adele's '21' album yet, its widespread acclaim and cultural impact are undeniable. From the singles I've heard, it seems to be a deeply emotional and soulful collection of songs, showcasing Adele's powerful vocals and heartfelt lyricism. I'm intrigued to experience the raw emotion and storytelling that many have praised in this album.
Stunning voice. Obvious similarity to amy winehouse
Great singer. I had overlooked this album due to it being wildly popular. Mistake amended.
Inarguably a tremendous voice. Although I must say, I prefer her singing on soul, blues, and rock-inspired tracks compared to her ballads.
Just last week I was talking to my co-worker about how I'd never listened to an Adele album despite humming her songs regularly. Fixed. Favourite track: Someone Like You.
Not necessarily an album I'm reaching for but you have to respect the unique talent and songwriting here. An album deserving of this list. 7.5/10 (3.75/5)
Great pop. Is listen to a lot more pop if it sounded like this
Now I kind of get it. Great voice and some all-around excellent songs.
I listened to this album a while ago since I’ve heard a lot of Adele on the radio growing up. She wasn’t my favorite pop artist as I didn’t vibe with the slow heartfelt ballads she does often but she has a lot of good songs on this album. I love: Rolling in the deep, Rumour has it, and set fire to the rain. I still appreciate her music even though it’s not my taste anymore.
Favourite song - Turning tables
Really enjoyed this album, it has 4 undeniable hits and I liked all of the other songs too. I could be convinced that this album is a 5/5.
Some good songs, great voice.
Great vocals, of course. A great exhibition of her abilities, rich and full. Some songs were amazing. Covering The Cure was a nice touch
Amazing voice
Best song - Set Fire to the Rain
Modern Classic
The songwriting and voice talent on display are undeniable. If I was really into this kind of music, I’d give five stars.
I love Adele. Great album and I love watching her mature.
I thought I was too cool to jam to the music I was too cool to jam to when I was 13 or so. Then "Someone Like You" comes on at the end and yeah this shaped a decade of music. I was in 6th grade again, and had just been broken up with, again. That shit had me hurting over a 6th grade relationship >:o
I actually really do enjoy this album. I consider it one of my guilty pleasures. A lot of people may not care for her style, but you cannot deny that she has an awesome voice!
I remember when this came out, and I hadn’t really paid attention to pop music yet, but I was on a 9 seater bicycle at the beach when Rolling in the Deep came on our speaker. It was instantly catchy and the singer was insane! We played that like 4 times while riding around the boardwalk. Anyways that was my intro to Adele and hearing more tracks garnered more and more respect at her range and song writing ability.
I love some of the songs on here, the ones that weren't singles are kinda meh.
Full of classics plus some good ones that I never heard before. Adele's voice really carries it to a great album.
Magnificent
Not particularly in the mood for this today, but she's got a great voice and it's a solid album.
Adele popped up on a previous challenge, so I ended up listening to her all day. She's incredibly talented & I love her soulful voice. This album has my favorites & her first mega hits. It also reminds me of a time when I was behaving badly. Memories. 4 stars.
I don’t know what’s more nostalgic this album or all the remixes that came out of these songs. As someone who was 21 when this came out and it coinciding with the explosion of electronic music I. America, these songs were everywhere.
Not usually my style of music, but Adele is very special
- "you're gonna wish you never had met me" in the background gives me life 🤩 - rumour has it reminds me of glee,,,, IM SORRY IK ITS A BETTER SONG THAN THAT - OKAAAAYY BREAK IT DOWN DELLY (end of rumour has it 🤯) - the violins in turning tables??? iconic. shattering. everything this song needed. - never heard don't you remember before - understandable its not as powerful as the others - set fire to the rain never gets old. - "I. WON'T. GO" BAM BAM BAM - how is ill be waiting the least streamed song. HOW?? HOW??? arguably one of the best songs on this album - lovesong - spanish guitar? not mad. just... - AND THIS IS WHY I LOVE ALBUM CLOSERS THANK YOU ADELE 🙏🙏 4/5
beautiful voice
Despite the overplay, still a banger
Her voice is amazing
Lots of hits obviously. Someone Like You is such a good song man. Would like to re-listen to I Found A Boy and Lovesong
If you're ever looking for an album that would empower you after a breakup, while also making you long for your ex...this is it! Her voice makes me feel ALL the feels
Great album brings back memories of commuting from Olathe to work. I would listen to this again.
Love the smooth vocals. Funny how young Adele was when she spoke about her youth as if in the rear view mirror.
She's very, very talented. Gorgeous voice. Not one for my own "Hall of Fame", but a well deserved 4
Incredible voice
Several instant classics, easy to see why she gained the recognition she did
Powerful flashback to the 2010's; I'll be waiting is a banger
Surprisingly good, her voice is just amazing. Some real good power ballads.
This lady is good. Really good. The production value of this is also top of the line. It’s easy to see why it was such an immense hit. I’m not a huge fan of her voice… a bit too effective for my taste, but it’s hard to listen to this and not give it the props that it deserves.
Not normally a fan of this sort of stuff, and especially the slow weepy ballads, but this…this was good. Firstly, Adele has an amazing voice, and the album is all about highlighting it. Her vocal performances here are powerful yet nuanced and engaging. As a listener you always stay invested in the songs and their stories. I’m a bloke approaching middle age, so am not the target market for this kind of album, but even I have to doff my cap and say I am genuinely impressed with her singing, song writing, and her take on love, loss and heartbreak here.
Gorgeous and I love it!
Incredible voice, one of the best of our generation The songs are centred around heartbreak, but they feel very real and genuine. beautiful album 4
Incredible voice/production and each song felt unique in their own right. Not an album I'd return to often just because most of the album has been overplayed by now, but still a great album.
25 is better to me, but only by a fraction.
Great vocals, of course, but more fun music than I expected. Ranged from rock leaning to jazz in addition to straight pop
Standout other than the hits: I'll Be Waiting
Great!
I’m just gonna rate it as close as I can to the average since I didn’t listen the whole way through. I’ve been exposed to this album’s hits ever since I first listened to the radio, and I gained a newfound appreciation for Rolling in the Deep and Rumour Has It after actually paying attention to the lyrics. Both great songs imo. I stopped at Set Fire To the Rain and I still don’t really care for it. I never really fucked with Adele too much, but I’m glad that most of the hits actually deserved to be hits.
As someone who only listened to the singles from this album, the album-only tracks certainly surprised me while listening to it.
Adele is a classic, but I haven't listened to her in years. It's nice to bring her back to my radar again. Not my absolute favorite type of music, but certainly important and influential. 7/10
Liked this way more than expected. Close to giving it a five.
fire album
Adele made some great albums in her 20s and this one is definitely her best. Almost all of the songs on this album are solid pop hits that are either upbeat and fun or sad and emotional. A bit overly generic but that’ll happen when your music is insanely popular. Her voice resonates masterfully throughout and this album is one of the best of the 2000s. 8.3/10
truly such a powerful voice -- always amazed
Overall -idk if I am just listening to these songs differently but these sound like completely new songs -the instrumentals, rhythms, melodies blend so well together -it’s peppered with hidden and new guitar riffs -she sounds so young -it’s kinda extremely bluesy, jazz, soul -it’s actually pretty diverse collection of sounds but with a strong through line Rolling in the deep -ok this is actually extremely blue grassy or ragtime ? -the hidden guitar riffs Rumor Has It -the bass goes fucking hard I’ll be waiting -OOOOOOOH? -huh?????? -this song goes so fucking hard There was one song that sounded so fucking country that I can’t remember
Classic
Honestly so iconic. Someone like you and set fire to the rain r such breakup staples but also childhood sad songs. Love her and her voice
I wanted to call this bland and dull but its pretty good. She has an amazing voice and writes a decent song.
1/31/24. This was everywhere when it initially released, but listening 13 years later you can't deny it's strong vocals, songwriting, and influence. A good amount of music took a lot from this album.
Didn’t listen but love CSN
As far as pop goes, it’s good.
Never listened to this album before but it’s worth the hype.
Some bangers on this. Would that she could return to this eras energy
Wow, this album was everywhere! I don't love all the songs but considering the impact it had still a solid 4.
Great voice, and she doesn’t overdue it with diva flourishes (looking at you, Christina). Gets a little weaker in the second half but finishes strong with Someone Like You.
listened to again still a great album
What a hit maker
4.5 This is only the second album of 25 that I was very familiar with prior to starting this project. While critics would disagree, I liked 19 more than this. She has an amazing voice nonetheless. One and Only, Take It All, and Don't You Remember are great and didn't get the play they deserved.
She's great. Her voice is beautifully nuanced,, but sometimes I feel like it is surrounded by overproduction.
Rolling in the deep is still amazing. A little hard to take someone like you seriously after the gummy bears. The world needs more cure covers besides love song.
Powerful voice!
Her voice is incredible, the music arrangement is well done but I find just some of the songs as standouts from the rest.
Not my style, but certainly a great artist.
Adele is one of those artists that’s better than her hits. But her hits are still great!
I can understand how this album became so popular. She has a great voice, and it's presented really well throughout the album. Her richly textured voice has a good crack/yodel in it, and it sounds natural and she doesn't overuse it. Reminds me of Amy Winehouse and Joss Whedon. Her cover of The Cure's \"Lovesong\" is plaintive and authentic. As with many artists, I enjoy Adele when I hear her, but I don't feel the need to seek out her stuff, as it is so easy to hear in the zeitgeist. Least favorite track: \"Rumour Has It\" for its repetitive chorus. \"Rolling in the Deep\" is a banger.
Three all-timers on one album
8/10
One of the pop artists that I actually enjoy listening to. This album is full of classics.
Beautiful, powerful, and cinematic. My mother loves this album; listening reminds me of her
