попса 60-х. скучно, не цепляет
This just isn’t an album I’m interested. I’m sure it was maybe good at the time for those who are interested in Country rock. Some of the guitar solos are interesting, maybe if the guitarist was in a different band he could’ve produced some good music. It is one of the less irritating country voices that I’ve heard as well, to get credit where it’s due. The songwriting is also better than 90% of other tedious country songs. Low rating is because it’s not for me, I’m sure it’s someone’s perfect record. Favourite songs are: ‘Do Right Woman’.
I have nothing to comment on regarding this album. Not my cup of tea.
not bad but i can't see myself wanting to listen to any of these songs again :/
American at its finest. In as much as that genre is relentlessly dull, and this sits atop the genre. Not worth even casting a cursory ear towards
too country for me.
did not like
Stalled on take-off.
Bit trite
Wtf
Country and folksy. Lyrics are better than modern pop country. But I can’t get jiggy to this
Not a bad album, but not my jam.
Someone please explain to me why something like this is on this list. Not a fan of country preachy Jesus genre I suppose.
sigh! so dull!
meh
Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: None This album reenforces my dislike for super twangy country music. I don't enjoy it. I don't like the singing, I don't like the instrument playing, I don't like the subject matter. Strangely, the first two songs both make copious references to the devil or Satan. Kind of weird...
Kan ik niet naar luisteren. Veel te ouderwets en tenenkrommend braaf
Hader er et stærk ord, så jeg bruger et andet til at beskrive min utilfredshed.. Lårt.
Hippie Country er lige så kedeligt som almindelig Country
Great band name, great album title. Shitty country music.
Super duper not my thing. Could hear moments of likely influence on 70s rock but not the type of 70s rock I really like.
Considering that it's country rock, which in most circumstances I would gladly pay to see being mass-excavated into a landfill plot, this was actually... just as shite as I was expecting for the most part. I will acknowledge that the opener "Christine's Tune" is genuinely a rare, rollicking banger of a tune for the genre, "My Uncle" also had a bit of energy to it and "Juanita" is a passable enough ballad, but much of the rest descended into that wet, skin-crawling mid-paced slop which we apparently didn't have enough of in this list. Give me up-tempo bonky bonk over some lad doing his best sheep impression whilst giving a guitar a manicure any day of the week. Arguably even worse than the above however, we're "treated" to a spoken word organ track with someone occasionally rattling a cymbal in the background as the album's closer. Who in their right mind would've signed off on that? These jokers apparently.
Not my thing at all
Not for me. 1/5
Not for me
Gave up on singing at the end of the album, understandable i would be tired of singing bad songs as well.
Did not like. Did not finish
Boring
*eye twitch* Feels like I accidentally walked into a saloon during an existential crisis.
Some interesting cues, but in the end still boring country
Yawnathon
I'd rather have Taco Bell burritos and be on the toilet for the night
I really like the energy but the music wasnt great
Bleh, basic cowpoke music posing as hip.
I didn't even mind how this sounded but jeez the lyrics are so atrocious. Would never listen to this again
🤢
Painful
Is it supposed to be funny? Christian country?
please dear god stop no more country music
Meh
Yeah, no. No.
Could only hack one listen through of this one. Goes into the vault of pain along with the Louvin Brothers.
When I saw this album was from the late 60s, was by a band called "The Flying Burrito Brothers" and has the super tacky font on the cover, I could only imagine what awaited me. I am so sick to death of all the psychadelic rock albums from the late 60s by bands with stupid names that use that exact font. So you can't even imagine my relief when I started listening to it and it wasn't that. However, that feeling of relief only lasted all of a few seconds, as it didn't take long for me to realise that what this album is, isn't much better. It's still annoying, and pointlessly weird, only difference is that it's country as opposed to psych rock. I appreciate that it's different, but that doesn't distract me from the fact that it still fucking sucks.
1.5 - Bad
Nope not my style of music but cool band name
First Beck and then "The Flying Burrito Brothers" - what hell am I in. Beck is so experimental on "Odelay", the "Burrito Brothers" are so un-experimental. Uninspired country sound, damn slide guitars that I hate so much. "The gilded Palace Of Sin" - and nothing here is gilded, not even remotely like the shed in the background. The album is wrecked. Even listening to one song is painful. "I really hate all twang and slide" - no star, really, really no star. This is way below Beck. Get rid of it!
Awful. Not for me. Maybe I could take one track in a playlist but a whole album of this was boring & painful. Don’t care how influential they were.
No. Twangy.
wanhan ajan
TOOO country twangy for me, sorry boys
T E R R I B L E
If this is an influential album, then it must have influenced a whole bunch of music that I don't much care for.
I laughed when I saw the band name, and I was genuinely intrigued. Unfortunately when I hit play it was country/western rock, and I knew I was going to struggle. Around song 4 I gave up. Country music is just so unappealing to me, I can’t stomach it most of the time.
Three tracks were enough to have listened to the whole thing. This sort of stuff doesn’t deserve to spread beyond dive bars in the dustbowl.
Groupe inconnu. Aïe, encore un album de country ennuyeux comme la pluie. Je ne suis pas allé au bout. =>1/5
Nothing to say, just bullshit.
Fruktansvärd dansbands-country. Nej.
I've had better burritos on the east coast and thats saying something
Are you taking the piss?
Rubbish. One of the worst albums I've come across so far on this.
I don't really get why this one is on the list. Is this classic country? It's not great. Same background music, different lyrics. Big meh.
Pretty much hated this hillbilly country
Not my cup of tea
Gram Parsons was my second one-star review here, and this confirms that his music doesn't agree with me.
I'm sorry, I tried. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band were good, I didn't mind Waylon Jennings, I even got through that Emmylou Harris album, but this is just too country for its own good. Dear Lord that was a slog to get through, and I don't even remember any tracks I even slightly enjoyed. The album cover honestly suggested at least a little bit of psychedelia, but this was just mawkish, good ole boy country all the way down.
Like Boxcar Willie, but worse.
trotos
Just a cringe, twangy country album. There's nothing special nor interesting about this at all.
Country, 1969 -> 1
Bit too country for me
Not for me. Didn’t like the singing voice and it sounded a bit preachy. The music was ok but the singing and lyrics were not my thing.
I didn't finish it. Not my stuff at all.
Boring
not for me
No more country. Enough. This was slightly Beatlesy country, which means it was in some way experimental and worthy of inclusion. In practice it's the same as the other country albums, same themes, same music, same tropes. No need to hear it.
Gear: Moondrop Variations Artwork: 🌯 Mix: 🌯 Musik: 🌯 Wertung: 🌯/5
Ehh, perhaps it was ok when released, but I have no space or time for this
Struggling to hear how this is country rock and not just.. country. Lovely recording, horrible music. Given the reverence these guys inspire I was at least expecting a strong crossover, maybe some psychedelic sounds or some of the bluesy boogie of ZZ Top or even Lynyrd Skynyrd. Nope just really polished cliched country. And look at their stupid fucking clothes.
Didn't enjoy this at all. More country.
Don t know
Sadly the music comes nowhere close to living up to the promise of that great band name
An insult to burritos.
I struggled with this one, the slower country/folk tracks aside, there were little things with the production that felt shoddy and rushed, (coughs in vocals, random knocks), put me off, especially considering the talent involved. There were a couple of decent tracks, (the cover versions were okay), but overall I didn't enjoy it. 1.5
Not a big country fan
Not for me
Wie macht man Null Sterne?
I'm allergic to this sort of music.
country western who gives a fuck
A groundbreaking album? It would be if I wrapped it up with a brick and threw it out of a window. It was not going to be something I'd enjoy as it was pretty much standard 'folk'. A couple of ok tracks, the standout being 'Burrito #2' - J Mascis thought it was OK too! It's getting a high 1.
Late 60's Hippie / Country / Folky. Too twangy for me.
Tough. Hate the genre. Might also hate the album and the band. Tried to get through the entire album 3 times and couldn't do it without turning it off again.
No my music
Not a fan of country. Even if they try to rockify it. This was hard to finish. But I did. I’m sure someone enjoys this music.
Country nope
I don't like this fusion of music genres.
Started off okay, but found it a bit monotonous after a few songs. Never trust a hippy. Country rock is clearly not my thing.
It's bad. The name of the band could have been cool if it was not country music.
Christine's Tune starts the album and it's VERY country sounding. It gets worse from there. Sin City is a straight up country song. I almost never look up a band or album before listening because I want to formulate my own ideas, but I am *not* subjecting myself to listening to any country music. So I looked it up and it's Gram Parsons, who people somehow constantly label as a "rock" artist, but who, in my opinion, sounds indistinguishable from any country music snippets I've ever heard. In summary, this album is trash.
About as psychedelic as a portobello mushroom Boring, basic Low 2?
40 minutes of country hell
Nope
Started ok, but quickly became boring and eventually I couldn't wait for the album to end
3/10 Obnoxious, saccharine, boring
nothing to catch the ear
If this experience has confirmed one thing for me it is that I don't give with country at all
Nope! I'd rather chew on tin foil!
Oh god. This was a chore to listen to. I didn't know what to expect based on the band name and album cover, but I wasn't anticipating anything good. That's just what I got - nothing good. I hope I never hear this music again.
Way too country for me.
No, this is terrible music. Production is poor as well.
Country and Western of the worst type - lot's of twanging guitars. Hate It
Very almost couldn't finish this.
So after listening to what may be my surprise artist of 2023, I get the Flying Burritos. I know this Parsons dude has worked with all kinds of bands and been making music a long time, but this is not for me. This is the annoying twangy kind of stuff I just can't get into. I saw the 2nd song called Sin City and was hoping for something like Bon Scott's version. Not even close and all hope for something special was lost..... There was a song Hippie Boy, that mentioned a guy on acid, smelly like weed. I like the sticky too. Tough to follow Lou, but you did mention weed, so I give a solid 1. Won't be seeking out other stuff by these guys
Really country music! Not a very entertaining country music it is. Boring to me.
Old man country music. Grandpa country
Why are we on a farm in Texas? Zei Almudena na 2 tracks. Daarna maar afgezet, want toen was de lol er voor mij ook af…
Dit bewijst maar weer dat de meeste countrymuziek gewoon echt niet te harden is.
I never thought, in a million years that a band called The Flying Burrito Brothers would produce an album by the name of The Gilded Palace of Sin, or that it would sound like that. This was an adventure in pain tolerance.
Country ...
Æsj
Meh
Country & Western & Soft Rock? I'm actually in hell.
Nein.
ah man, i'm just so let down. top ten name- check pussy wagon style logo - check superfly album get up - check sick album name - check music that isn't shit - big fat red X its just such a waste. why does it have to be cuntry music. i got so excited when i saw this masterpiece album cover.
I tried, i did, even though i cant stand country music. i hear the mix of beatles-eske with country. cant get into it
That was a slog. The Hippie Boy story was sort of intriguing but not exactly clear, and the Hot Burritos (two tracks) weren't the worst either, but that's about all positive I have to say about this one.
Several times while listening to the album, my subconscious thought I was listening to the radio and my arm reached to change the station. I broke my rule of no research before a review, and from that I learned that the reason this album sounds a bit like lots of other artists is because at one point or another, anyone doing the country rock thing was either in The Flying Burrito Brothers or was in a band with someone who was in some iteration of The Flying Burrito Brothers. I get that the band is/was important because they are an early example of a band marrying rock and country. But that was also problematic to me because I don't think they did a good job. It seemed too heavy handed, too twangy, too much piano. I particularly dislike the talking quality of the singing in "Hippie Boy" and all similar songs that followed by other artists. Either sing or be a poet, but fuck off with your in between. While I, gasp, like other bands who flirted with country and rock such as the Eagles, I don't necessarily enjoy the bands that influenced them. And the album cover? They didn't hike out to this rural location dressed in gaudy suits, so what are they trying to convey?
This is straight up country. Pass to the damn moon.
I think I'm missing a lot of context on this band, and the album cover does not help. This one was a flop for me.
Nope. Not for me. Boring country. Yes it was influential (Eagles, alt-country) but I don’t have to like it.
Listened to at least a portion of each song. Tried to like it, but really didn't. No particular reason, just a matter of personal preference.
How did this make this list?
