liked. good vibes. nothing I favorited.
Was previously familiar. Had not listened in a long time though. Prince was great!!!
Not a fan. Sounds like Flaming Lips and Oasis had a love child. Not in a good way. Hippy stoner rock.
Nah. Not for me. Too indy coffee shopy.
Not a fan. Dig the punkish music, but the mixing and lyrics I can hear are not my bag.
Too mello and depressing. A couple okay tracks.
Meh. Good background study/work music. Not a fav, but didn't dislike.
Meh. Good house music for background noise.
Meh. Not terrible. Not great. Yellow was the only somg I almost clicked like on.
Smooth easy listening. Not anything I would select on my own.
Way too theatric and dark.
Loved the vibe and energy. No songs that I loved tho.
One of the most boring and utterly mind numbing things I have ever listened to. Ptew!
Reminds me of a mashup between the Breeders, Seether, and Smashing pumpings. A lot of repetitive droning parts in many songs that made me pretty much zone out.
Hippity Dippity World Electronica. No bueno. Makes me want to smash my neighbor's wind chimes.
Good ole classic tunes. With guitars. And harmonies. Good stuff.
A bloody brilliant piece of legenday musicianship.
A little bit Elvis Costello. A little bit of The Clash. Boppin bass and good guitar riffs.
Meh. Easy listening and great storytelling. Not something I would ever pick tho.
It is okay. Like listening to a Pet Shop Boys and the Cure mashup... just not as good.
Typical punk rock. Can see how they influenced many, and I like a lot of punk music. Just can't enjoy it when vocals are burried in the music. First few tracks are very momotenous. Some good power tracks on the latter half.
Some catchy vibes, but not my bag, baby.
Not a bog Doors fan. Just not into that style.
A very hypnotic electonica with feminine vocals that provide a good musicbed for study and focused work.
Didn't dislike it as much as I thought it would.
A good classic. Lots of uplifting vibe.
This album is weird. A little Strat Cats. A little early B52s. Sorta punk. Sorta ska. Sometimes vicals. Other times not. Didn't hate it. Don't like it.
Why do I like this so much? She sounds like a blend of Sheryl Crow and Courtney Love. Some of the vocals feel forced and there is a crap ton of bajos and harmonicas in this back country soundtrack. And I think I like it. I normally don't. Great story telling and pace for a cozy drive or evening in by the fire, or swattin squitos on the porch.
Just really didn't enjoy. The quirky novelty and diminutive voice wore off quickly. Many songs sounded the same.
Love the powerful music. Disdain for the sophmoric and excessive Fbombs, like a fifth grader at his first overnight party away from home. LB had potential, but they never got there. :(
A lot better than I exected. Great Coolio esque vive in some parts. Fun and energetic.
Metallica. Nough said. But even better, old school Metallica. ❤️ 🔥 \m/
Though i am a fan of most Cure music, I can't get into music that devolves into operatic horror rock. Still, there are a couple tracks on this I really enjoy because they are not so dramatically over the top.
Gotta finally admit, I like Van Hagar better than Van Halen. I can admire early VH, but it is not music I seek out and truly enjoy.
Coyld not listen to this one since it is removed from spotify, so I listened to their next album. Catchy beats with many familar samples and some lyrics.
Utterly boring electronica.
Good rock and grunge sound. Easy to see the Nirvana comparrisons ( or Nirvana's to the Pixies).
Meh. Just can't will myself to like them.
A classic that launched a full trend and style. Some great tracks. Some not great tracks. Filled with a lot of imagery and lyrics that would be blasted if produced today.
The reviews on this are kind. Can't believe someone would release this on purpose.
Juat another indie group with mello depressing music. Not a fan.
Did not know China Girl was an Iggy Pop song, though Bowie helped write it. Bowies version is way better, but it is still the best song on this album. Didn't really like The Idiot otherwise.
Haven't heard this album in decades. Always sorta like it. Good vibes. Some songs get repetitive or lack lytics.
Pretty voice against some basic synths. Boring.
One of prominent music acts of the 90s. I could not stand them at the time; have really come to appreciate their art since. Still, not something I would intentionally seek to listen to, but not opposed to hearing if it's on.
A more mello verion of the Beatles + CCR. Soothing and relaxing music. Not something I would listen to again.
Delightfully different. Good vibe. A lot of callbacks to classic hip hip and tap with some modern styles. Not something I would pick out again, but didn't dislike it.
An occasional lyric on top of radio sound effects on top of an electronica music bed. No thanks.
Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. Better than most of the albums I have had suggested so far.
Light rock misic with soothing vocals. Interesting and folksy. Not bad, but will not listen again.
Some good instrumental and sound.
An interesting blend of Ramones meets Beach Boys. I sort of like it, I sort of could do without it. Nine Million Rainy Days and Cherry Came Too are the best trax IMHO.
Never listened to Joan Baez before this. Never will again. Magnificent voice and a great storyteller, but just could not handle the music. Felt like I was at a rennasounce fair, and for far too long.
I now see why they are a one hit wonder.
Meh. I honestly don't get Bob Dylan.
After listening 2-3 months, I was finally introduced to an artist I will listen to again. I had heard of the Charlatans but never listened to them before. Really enjoyed the rock elements and feeling like I was listening to something akin to Oasis and/or the Stone Roses.
Scooby Snacks. It was popular for a minute. A sound very similar to others in the era. Nothing special.
Another anthem of my generation A great unique sound that stood out then, and still does today.
If I could listen to Led Zeppelin without the vocals, I might like them.
Didn't like it. Didn't hate it. Folksy rock akin to CCR, but a little less polished.
A wonderful album that I really enjoyed when it came out, and still do today.
Meh. Typical rock of the era.
I really wanted to love this, but I don't. Despite hearing their influence on some of my favorite artists, like Nirvana, Helmet, Gruntruck, Soundgarden, etc, I just could not get into it like I had hoped. I favorited the song "No One Has", but that was it.
If the Cure and Transiberian Orchestra had a band fronted by David Bowie, this would be it.
Just didn't dig this. Hard to hear the vocals and music is mainly just dijointed noise.
Listening to this album makes me aware of how much the 1980s SNL band sounded like E Street band. Bruce Springsteen, in all his blue collar, gritty glory shows how he is a master storyteller in his music. Can't say I love this album, but respect for the Boss.
Oh no. Another Elvis Costello album. Nothing different or standout about this album from any of his other work.
Beautiful voice. Dreadfully sad album. Occassional poppy music beds. Folksy.
A long string of sound effects and random volcals on top B-side keyboard music beds. Not a fan.
She was a great and unique voice that stood out in her ear. Still stands out today, but underappreciated.
I hear a lot of Primus, Early Chili Peppers, and Rollins Band. Funky and assertive. Nothing I particulalrly enjoyed tho.
Some powerful, gripping tunes that were so integral to the 1980s era. Some other songs that are wishy washy and fluffy. Still, a great album.
No sire. I didn't like it. Sounds like a pop band with a lead sing impersonating Bob Dylan. Badly.
Not as bad as most psychedelic rock.
Mello hypnotic carnival music.
Really enjoyed listening to this and realized how underappreciated George Harrison is in light of Lennon and McCartney comparrisons. Some of the instrumentals in the back half of the second disc get a little monotenous, but still enjoyable tracks nonetheless.
Love the music. Can hear their influence on many of our more recent alt punk artists. Not digging the vocals.
I remember this one being crazy popular. Hearing it now, it strikes me how much of the era's music sounds similar to this album. Ms. Jackson did it better than any of them though.
Great artist and album. Cult of Personality remains one of my favorite songs. Some other good tracks, but nothing rises to that level.
Never heard of Gene Clark. Reminded me a lot of Jim Croce. Big a bit different, I just can't peg exactly how. Enjoyed the story telling and easy melodies.
"Gawd I'm bored. Might as well be listening to Genesis." If you get the reference, you'll understand and agree.
Typical S&G. Mellow and soothing storytelling with hypnotic melodies.
Interesting sound that reminds me a bit of Gruntruck and Helmet. A little more punk vibe to them tho.
Never really got into RS. Listened to it and found it to be a little more folksy that I expected. Still, some upbeat rock that sorta I enjoyed.
This is a very dreary and bleak album. Not a fan.
The music is exactly what one would exect from the cover art and band name. Very theatrical and weird.
Surprisingly good. I sometimes feel like I am hearing Pink Floyd one ment, and Jamiraquoi the next. I would rarely listen to either of those two, but is somehow works here.
A critical part of the late era GenXer's life soundtrack.
A "good" Cure album. Hardly their best work tho.
An interesting sound. Almost a bit of Kiss with a little rockabilly twist. Didn't love it, but didn't hate it.
Fun bobby music with some sophomoric lyrics.
Truly, should be zero stars.
Reminds me of a mellower Stone Roses or a not as poppy Oasis. Surprised at how much I actually enjoyed this one.
A lot of country twang. Not for me.
Some solid pioneering rap n rock beats. Hearing it now, their rapping feels so slow. Probably not appeciated nearly as much as should be.
Good trance music if you just need to zone out.
If the Beach Boys sucked, this is what they would make.
Reminds me a lot of Kid n Play, but with a bit more edge.
Some good and unique tunes, but a lot of it just blends together in typical late RHCP style.
Skynyrd meets Vutthole Surfers (with a little Black Crowes). I should like it, but I don't.
There was no music in this... just the noise of keyboards, static, soundbytes, and mish mash. Blech.
I thought this would be another coffee shop Mariah Carey, but was very surprised by the depth and diversity. An enjoyable listen, even though not my typical go to.
A lot better than I expected. Really dug the vibe and style.
If old school Alice Cooper experimented with stock sounds on an electric keyboard, this would be it.
Not bad for the era. A little too rockabilly, but a fun little record.
If I were to open a hair salon or spa in the midwest and wanted to project oan image of trying to hard to be nre age eccentric while bringing "a bit of the big city to middle America" I would loop this album. I can practically taste the hair spray just listening to it.
For the life of me, I just don't understand the draw of Grateful Dead. :(
Listened to this a lot as a teen. Always sorta dug it and the style... but no real reason why. Cut Your Hair was the draw and is still the best track. I enjoy it a lot. The rest of the album, not so much.
Not terrivle, but not my thing. Sprt get the impression that, if BBT's Footprints on the Moon formed a semi serious ska band, this would be it.
I like a lot of Bowie's music. This one is probably my leasr favorite of his library though.
HARDLY A Van Morrison fan, but I enoyed much more than expected.
Like excessively long guitar solos and high pitched voices on your frontmen and a dazzling synthesizer noise mixed in from time to time? This is for you. Not for me.
Not for me. Couple of radio hits that are poppy, but I didn't even like those.
Very mellow easy listening.
A mish mash of random sounds and music beds. Someone recorded their kids playing with the stock sounds of their electronic keyboard and made an album with it.
Fun little pop party band, pre-Love Shack when Rock Lobster was their highest draw. Not music I typically enjoy. Somebody must though.
Some interesting storytelling and lyrics in a very mellow music bed.
A lot of the reviews I read prior to listening noted the comparrisons to and likely influce this album had on Duran Duran. They are right! My golly, at times I thought I WAS listening to Duran Duran. Good album and a group I plan to explore more.
Don't judge a book by its cover. But do judge an album by its cover. This one especially. Sounds exacly like you'd expect.
Better than many reviews credit, but low production quality make it a hard listen.
Nothing makes me want to listen to music less than when it is deemed "experimental pop". This album goes a long way toward confirming that bias.
Lots of sappy "art songs" I can do without. Could benefit from more edgy songs like "Eternal Life"
Based upon reviews and genre, I expected to give thus a big ole 1 star burger. Was pleasantly surprised. Much better than expected. Still, not something I would listen to again, but didn't hate it.
Probably was great back in the day. Not something I can enjoy today tho.
Like Boxcar Willie, but worse.
Am I listening to Macarena or is it Terry Crews doing his comidic schtick in an Adam Sandler movie? Am I at a wellness spa or visiting a new age cult? Whatever it is, not for me.
Reviews set me up with low expectations. I'd say it hit this. The music and flow were not bad. But lyrics and tone are just another gang and drug glorifying derivative of the genre Dre and Snoop made famous in the 90s. Nothing stands out as worth hearing a second time.
I would bump this up two more stars if the vocals were more that throat scraping screams.
Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. Some good ole rock akin to CCR.
Sounds like one of the guys from Oasis stole Beck's music and put out a solo album. Sorta works for novelty, but would never listen to it again.
Back half of the album is much better than front, but it is still mostly tired slacker rock.
I REALLY wanted to like this. But I didn't.
A little too much "rock opera" for my taste.
One of those albums you keep listening to because you're convinced there will be at least one good tracj. There's not.
A high pitched voice over moatly whimsical melodies. Nope.
Wanted to love it. Merely liked it.
I don't dislike Van Morrison, but I am not really a fan either. This is a good music bed tonput on and just zone out to when you are working.
A quality ole rock album.
Liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Nothing stood out as exceptional. Just good time rock.
Before there was Wonder Wall, there was Waterfall. Used to listen to the original disc constantly til it got stolen from my car. So many great tracks, always leaves me to wonder what might have been if they had done more. Gawd, I needed these tunes today!
Low intensity hypnotic electronica. pass.
Wow. Been a long time since I have listened to the full album. Forgot how good some of the lesser played tracks are. Still a masterpiece.
I almost gave it a 4 simply for the fact that I like the Celebrity Skin album so much more. That wouldn't be fair though. This album stand on its own and is a great work of the era.
Gets the standard, "not terrible, but nothing other than basic electronica" 2.
Really enjoyed this more than I thought I would. At some points, it almost sounds like Foo Fighters with a little less edge.
I like a lot of Pet Shop Boys music, but not this album so much.
A good little rock band that pleasantly surprised me. A little too mellow for me, but still, pretty good compared to most of the lesser knowns on this list.
A bunch of long electronica loops. No real lyrics. Would actually be pretty good if there were Beastie Boys dropping some rhymes over the music. As it stands, though, the novelty of the music wears out quick.
Good trance music. Pretty much Prodigy with no lyrics.
Sort of Cranberries meets Oasis with a nice edge. Pleasantly surprised.
Rock opera albums are like the musical episodes of sitcoms. Novel, but annoying and wear out quickly.
Often sounds like a mediocre Springstien impression over industrial experimental soundbeds. Sometimes it works here. Mostly, tgough, it does not.
This is one of the few pleasant surprises in the 400+ alvums I have listened to from thus list this far. I really expected psychedellic expirimental noise. But it's actually gritty, energetic guitar driven rock that you can't help but enjoy. Have now gone through most of their catalog. Nobody killed the Zutons. Their rocking and keeping it real!
A great throwback to good American rock and roll. Wonderfully arranged music, hard hitting lyrics, use of instruments and a powerful frontman vocals.
Instruments get a 4* but vocals are a 1*.
Never listened to the JAMC much, so just slightly familiar with them prior. Kinda reminds me of a Mad Season and Ramones mashup. Not terrible, but not something thar got me excited either.
If Adam Sandler and Talking Heads went to the mall to collaborate on a pop album in the 80s, it would sound like this... but better.
Another rap album with F bombs street machismo. Yawn.
Exactly what you will expect. Not terrible and the sound grew on me a bit the longer I listened. Still, not for me.
The instrumental end of Layla is the most beautiful instrumental ever produced. Gets a star for that alone. Can't say I get into the rest all that much, but it's quality at least.
Good mello music for meditation or when doing a painting.
Wow. Slow and depressing. Not an enjoyable listen in any way.
Dang. I want to like SOAD so badly, but I just cannot. Everything is there. Power. Intensity. Energy. But the theatrical vocals just negate most of it. :(
I have to admit, I was not looking forward to another folk album. This one was shockingly good and I intend to listen to more by this group.
If half stars were available, would do 3 1/2. Just didn't enjoy enough to give it a 4.
Nice and groovy. Great background muzak.
Boring whiny voice that just don't work for me, brother.
A great bridge from Disco to Pop music. MJ was so great. Some good tunes, but not one of his albums I truly dig.
A mostly hypnotic repetition of sound, but there are some signature songs that were big hits and have lasted the test of time.
Once in a Lifetime gets 2 stars of its own... but the rest of the album collectively deserves just 1.
Such a gem that helped define the 80s sound. All Through the Night is sort of a forgotten hit because it is overshadowed by Girls Hust Wanna Have Fun.
I want to like it, but just not overly enjoyable and no plans to listen again. :/
The album everyone hated... until they loved it! An album so ahead of its time, it sounds like it could have been made last year and not decades ago.
A lot of catchy tracks that I rrally enjoyed. May or may not listen again tho.
Smooth groovy electronica that may be good to zone out to or have in background while painting or something.
If Billy Idol were a dramatic performing Frenchman in a dark carnival, this would be it. While that may seem great, the novelty wears quickly.
I dig Motorhead, but just not enough to "love" them.
Not nearly as bad as I expected when I saw the cover and the musical style is certainly better than anticipated. Very gritty and folksy. Not bubble gum boy band wannabe pop.
The music that is largely regarded as the 80s sound. Cars is well known and easily the best on the album. Pretty boring and monotenous otherwise.
First and last tracks are best. Vintage Alice.
If Blondie formed the Spice Girls in 1971, this would be it.
Like Oasis or Stone Roses but very boring and no grit.
If I gave it anything higher, it would be simply because it's Megadeath and not based on the album content alone. I like it, but it's not one I do or would listen to often.
Electronica that could be the music bed for Moby or Ray of Light era Madonna. Some good art studio ambiance.
I really want to like Blur, but I just don't. Almost like a less artsy but more experimental REM. And, oh my, this album is super long. The second disc is a bit better, but, by then, I am Blurred out.
Better than expected. A little odd in a good way. Some beats could be mistaken for Beastie Boys, but the tone of the vocals often don't match the up tempo pace. I expect that from the Faming Lips tho.
Great beats on this album. Really dig the flow.
41 minutes of nonsensical noise you'll really want to enjoy but ultimately fail to do.
Like Alice Cooper but exponentially worse.
Very along the lines of Korn and Pitch shifter, Pantera, etc. A little more along the Death Metal spectrum tho.
Some groovy Electronica. Gets overly repetitive for too long in some tracks.
I avoided this one a bit because I figured it would be torture. It was anything but. Really enjoyed it and nothing like I expect3d.
Was going to go 3 stars because, though not my taste, I can respect the art. But the longer I listened, the less I admired it. Only exception is the duet because it at least added some variety of sound.
Not as bad as I expected. More upbeat and not so mopey sad face. Still, not my favorite style.
Love the sound and energy. Lyrics are lacking and the tracks are excessively long and repetative. Still, a solid album.
Dire Straits is a much underappreciated band because of their enormous success with Money for Nothing and Walk of Life. Many consider them to be one hit a wonder of sorts. This album is just one example of how good they truly.
Wow. When this was popular, I HATED it because I heard Tennesse and Mr. Wendall all the frigging time. Today, with some life seasoning under my belt, I have a newfound reverence. Some is a bit hokey, but there's a lot of depth to the lyrics I didn't truly understand or appreciate back then.
Track 2. Captain Stupido. Pretty much sums it up.
Wow. I have sort of avoided ELO my whole life and now I know what I was missing. No idea what I expected, but it wasn't what I got. This was a very enjoyable listen with music, lyrics and arrangements that exude energy.
Remember that one time your friend's mom with a voice that sorta sounded like Stevie Nick's made a demo at the mall? Yeah, well we found it.
I felt like I was listening to the soundtrack of a mocku-biopic of Barry Manillow staring 1970s Martin Short.
Wonder if they were high when they made this. Might be better if you're high when listening to it. :/
A little Duran Duran. A bit of Clash. Some disco and Island groove and maybe even a little Culture Club. It's a weird cocktail.
Admittedly, I never understood the Grateful Dead fanaticism and I dreaded this selection. But I found this album to be a good listen. I can't say it spoke to me or that I loved it, but it was some good background music while working.
I should really like Rush. I just don't and not sure why. Mad respect, but I just can't get into it.
A surprisingly enjoyable listen.
