Pretty cool, just not my thing
Not super into metal, not bad though. Would give a 3.5 if it was possible
Iron Maiden is one of those bands that I am aware of, but never actually sat down and listened to. It's just classic rock, heavy drums, chuggy metal guitar, high pitched guitar solos, and the 80's rock vocals. So far it is just meh for me. I see the appeal but I never can really rock out to this brand of music. I find it a bit muddy and busy overall - nothing really stands out, it just feels like a wall of sound to me right now. Ok, the second song really slowed down and the singing is really coming through and it sounds much more focused - feeling like a high 3 right now. I think I'll keep it at 3, the second song on the album was the only one that spoke to me.
Hot take: they rock hard
As a heavy rock fan, it’s crazy that this is my first full listen through a Maiden album. It’s just another band of it’s time that boomers love and I just don’t understand the hype. On a side note, I own a “Iron Maiden Eddie” funko pop so that’s gotta count for something right? To me this is mostly guitar hero core but even then, I’ll just listen to other bands for sick riffs. I’ll have to dig deeper on them to understand, but I do have some saves here. Favs: Hallowed by thy name, run to the hills, the number of beast.
Fuck me. Relentless energy. Not as angry as I'd been expecting - there's a song about The Prisoner in there! - but still very noisy and ferocious.
Meh not my style
3/5
Metals not really my thing but I can see the vision ig
Exactly what I expected
Not really my style
I like this more than the self-titled album we got a while ago, but only just. I'm not really far enough into "pure" heavy metal at this point to really be able to distinguish between the songs.
Not bad, but oh my god everything sounded the same. Hallowed Be Thy Name was by far the best song and the only one that really stuck out in my mind. Even the damn title track, which I know from Guitar Hero, sounded the same as the rest of it.
Not really sure how to rate this type of album because it just sounds like the same song over and over (and by extension their first album as well). Loved Hallowed Be Thy Name but the rest of the album doesn't have that energy.
Some of the lyrics have, errr, not aged well, but this is a great album to put on that isn't going to demand your full attention - though it will grab it from time to time with guitar solos and switch ups. Listened to: Amli RiNo. Favorite tracks: Children of the Damned, Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills
This is one of those bands where the album artwork never matches their musical style. It feels very bait-and-switch.
Middle ground greatness.
It has been long time since I last listened to this. It sounded surprisingly fresh.
Good 'ol Irons! First album after Di'Anno was sacked and with Brucey at the helm, well in vocal duties anyway. While I prefer their later style, a more refined Maiden of the "Powerslave" and "Somewhere in Time" era, I can enjoy this raw NWBHM attitude as well. Around the "No Prayer for the Dying" and "Fear of the Dark" era I lost interest in the band and haven't really listened to said albums. I'd love to give this 4/5, but it's not that good really, so 3 will have to do.
Pretty goddamn fun. Unimpeachable hits
Not my cup of tea
I listened to this on a Sunday night after work at McDonalds whilst playing Football Manager with Dolny Kubin. The album was OK, there were a couple songs that i added to my spotify, Children of the Damned & Gangland, that i enjoyed, good drum beats, energetic 80s feel. I didn't have anything bad to say about the album, but then nothing really stood out to me. I found it interesting how i actually enjoyed the lesser-played songs on the album. I'd give it a 3/5
Es una paja sin terminar, me deja sabor a poco.
I was never a huge Iron Maiden fan but I did like a free off there songs two of which are on their album. Number of the Breast and Run to the Hills. I’m guessing probably two of their more popular songs so no surprise. Bruce Dickerson has a voice that was made for Metal and those screams are powerful. I think the drummer is fantastic. Enjoyed the album for the most part but skipped through a few songs after a couple minutes.
Songs have great energy The songwriting is creative
I don't get Iron Maiden I guess
📀 The Number of the Beast – Iron Maiden 3,5/5 Día: 26/4/2026 Primera impresión: Muy arriba y oscuro 🏆 Top primera escucha The Number of the Beast 1. Hallowed Be Thy Name 2. Run to the Hills 3. The Prisoner 4. The Number of the Beast 5. Total Eclipse 6. 22 Acacia Avenue 7. Invaders 8. Gangland 9.
Great energy, good guitars, ironically not satanic propaganda
Yeah it was alright, but if I wanna listen to this kind of music why not just play SOAD? SOAD does it better.
Solid minor 3. Loved the soft words in my ears at the start of some songs “the number of the beast 6 6 6 etc.” Was he the devil or some bible bro? Hope it is the former. Album felt like I was riding out of hell on a fiery steed after vanquishing my foes. In reality I was just on the bus to work. High scoring for hype value I’m fucking fired up for a 3 hour data privacy course, what a waste. Personally, not heavy enough for the metal genre but the second halves of some songs got heavy so that was neat. This left me hoping songs were like that the whole way through. Hmph. Lead vocalist would fit right in with the BeeGees. (Hoping for a beegees album during this challenge). I digress, Run to the hills was a stand out. And had meme able potential think “always watch out” Not an album I’d jerk to - as someone else left a review on. It’s not you (iron maiden) it’s me. N.b think I fucked my scoring up because if this is a 3. CCR should be a 4. Consider CCR a high 3.
3/5 stars, not a huge fan of metal so it didn't really hit for me. Even though it was pretty controversial when it came out it felt really tame listening to it now. Mostly reminds me of the songs in Guitar Hero I didn't really care for in college. Standout songs for me were Run to the Hills and Hallowed be thy Name, but most of the album feels a little same-y to me.
Great album for the genre. Would ocassionaly listen
Not a big fan (too rock for me) but I understand why people can enjoy that :) This is powerful ! I'm really surprised by The prisoner and actually enjoy this one
it was good as someone that just liked metal and i liked it but i was scared of the number 666 thing but good music tho i cant lie
Pretty mid as far as I'm concerned.
this album was better than I expected! the first 4 tracks were good, Number of the beast was eh, and Run for the hills was decent but the lyrics was just basic ‘white men mean conquerors’. gangman was good, and Hallowed be thy name was ok
Pilastro dell’heavy metal anche se io preferisco un metal un po’ più alternativo, meno veloce etc
Never really loved Iron Maiden from the songs I've heard, and this doesn't change my mind. Not bad.
Solid: like most 80s metal albums I remember, great singles + solid filler
Invigorating. And undoubtedly classic.
Not the biggest Metal fan, but this is a good album. Favorite songs: Children of the Damned, Run to the Hills
More musical than I expected
Was good in it's time. Dad rock.
Not bad but it didn’t grab my attention too much. A lot more listenable than I thought it would be
Loud and fast. This is the first time I've listened to an iron maiden album. It's not really my cup of tea.
6/10
midden mode
I was a little surprised by this album, because I really don’t like metal. However, it wasn’t as bad as I thought. So I guess it’s a 3.
A perfectly good metal album. Not catchy or intense enough for my taste, but nothing to object to
Like this maybe more than British steel, complicated because this one's a lot cleaner which works for and against. The voice is not immediately appealing. If I had more time I'd give it a higher score
Yeah I mean it was pretty good but they all sound the same

The Number of the Beast was far more enjoyable than I expected it to be. I went in bracing myself for relentless noise and walls of heavy guitar. Instead, I found well crafted songs, sharp melodies and genuinely catchy hooks. This challenge really has shifted my perception of metal. There is far more thought and musicianship involved than I used to give it credit for. The twin guitar work is precise, the rhythms are tight and Bruce Dickinson’s vocals add drama rather than just volume. It feels theatrical and controlled rather than chaotic. Invaders is a strong opener and sets the tone immediately. The Prisoner has great momentum, The Number of the Beast itself is iconic for a reason, and Run to the Hills is simply a brilliant song. These are not just heavy tracks, they are properly constructed pieces of music with clear structure and memorable choruses. Every track feels like it earns its place. It is powerful without being exhausting and melodic without losing its edge. I would definitely listen to this again. Favourite song: Run to the Hills Least favourite song: None. Every track works Album artwork: A crazy, instantly recognisable cover that perfectly matches the theatrical intensity of the music
Interesting how 80s metal has aged for me. I was not a metal head during the 80s opting more for New Age styles but this album sounded great. Some of the themes of the songs surprised me, i.e. Run To The Hills. Overall really solid - a 3.4 or so for me.
Surprised how much I like this. Pretty solid, riff rock, even though some of the sounds and song structures feel pretty dated and trope-y.
not a big fan personally therr were some bangers tho
Should out Ralph Fiennes in Bone Temple.
Combo of RnR , Hard Rock , punk , prog , pas mal
Decadent. Insane. I appreciate the Viking invasion of England as a topic of song lyrics.
If Katie can have bad Reggae and Ska takes I'm allowed bad heavy metal takes. This was by no means terrible, and I can see why people would like it but I just don't that much. This was awash for me and, except for a few bright spots, was totally forgettable. 22 Acacia Avenue made my eyes roll with the way it talked about prostitution, but on the other hand I wasn't really expecting a song with anti-colonial messaging like Run to the Hills. Probably was my favorite. I dunno I don't have a lot to say I don't like this genre very much.
rocky, not to my liking
Not my fav genre so my opinion is a little biased but solid songs.
For a genre I usually don’t connect with this wasn’t that bad at all. That brother was singing his heart off and the production was hard!
Muy bueno
I don't particularly like Iron Maiden but I do like people who listen to Iron Maiden so 3 stars. Best of it was Hallowed Be Thy Name
Good old fashioned heavy metal
I came in expecting to hate it, but in the end it was just music that I didn't care about; which is somehow worse. The songs itself are alright.
no es lo mio pero no se puede negar que son eminencias. 3,5
3.5
🦴🏯🦴🏯🦴🏯🦴🏯🦴
Respect, but no thanks.
As someone trying to learn how to play the guitar, this album was really fun to listen to. The combination of the guitar, drums, and high intense vocals comes together well.
I have not heard this album before. Talented guitar solos and stuff but I feel like the album kind of lacks something, though I'm not sure what it is. I have never really been an Iron Maiden person, or a heavy metal person though.
3.5/5
Meh 3/5
Run to the Hills is a jam
They definitely took the torch from Lizzy and extended the metal genre. The Disney satanism is a little cringe, as are the power ballads but number of the beast is a banger, surrounded by other boppers
Didn't much care for it back when it was new but I'll give it another start after a good listen. It def rocks
i recognized the opening bits of the prisoner because i've see the 60s tv show. insane
3 würde ich sagen. Nicht immer aber kanns enjoyen
I always regard Maiden as being a band that's surrounded and engulfed in iconic imagery that goes HARD. Like ever since being a kid, I was always looking at Maiden shirts being like "daaaaamn son, that shit's hard" (maybe not those words but that sentiment). I always thought Iron Maiden would be the darkest, most fierce, most badass metal I could ever be subjected to. Like especially here where it's The Number Of The Beast, my Christian-washed kid brain would be like "uh-oh, that's satanic music. I better not go near the music of Satan 'cause then I'll go to hell," yet still couldn't help but gaze upon whatever shirt some dirtbag in the 80s was wearing. Then I finally hear the band that by that point was legendary in my mind, like a big moment that might actually end up being the reason for my being sent to hell, and I hear "Run To The Hills" and am, like...it was cognitive dissonance. It was like "wait, this is Maiden? This is what they actually sound like?" It was like hard rock opera, like it was made for a stage show or something. Would be like music playing at some live-action show at an amusement park in the 80s that wasn't good or what you wanted to be watching but your parents needed a break to sit down for a few minutes. The music of "The Number of the Beast" sounds like an inspiring montage in a movie, if not for the actual lyrics which are pretty satanic, but coupled with the music, it's basically Satan going from a loser to the best version of Satan, know what I mean? Like I picture Satan training hard, even wearing a sweatband, sweating a lot as he pushes it to the max through the fires of hell. It's a very positive representation of Satan. Similar thing with "Run To The Hills" where it's pretty grim subject matter, but you would think running to the hills in this case was running for health and vitality. Like I can see a whole marathon of 80s runners running with passion over hills where presumably native genocide is happening, or I guess they themselves would be the actual targets of the genocide, 'cept they're in marathon gear, again with sweatbands all around. I mean, it's British metal that sits next to Judas Priest (though I contend Judas goes harder [and preferred if I'm choosing]). I wonder if other people have felt this massive cognitive dissonance with Iron Maiden. Don't get me wrong: the imagery, the lettering, the whole iconography of Maiden is incredible and unfuckable with, and is also why this is getting a 3 and not a 2 as the imagery is so much part of the music (even when it doesn't necessarily match the music IMO). Many people rock Maiden shirts never actually having heard Maiden, and for once I think that might be okay. Keep it whatever you think they sound like, 'cause whatever's in your head is likely way-cooler than what Maiden actually sounds like.
Not as bad as I was expecting. It has good energy and isn't as cringe as I remember from previous listenings. But it all sounds pretty similar and nothing really catchy
Overall okay. New to iron maiden surprisingly. Fun tracks overall
Satanic panic! Strong rock album, but the religious and dark themes were too heavy for me today.
The Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden 4/5 Invaders - Okay this shit rips right out of the gate - The lead signer’s vibrato thing is so good 🗣️“We cannot fight this battle alooooooone”🎸 - I feel like I want to dig into these lyrics. I love a good, wordy song. Good thing I didn’t uncover these hoes as a kid - Way closer to the pop punk cuties of the early aughts than I realized, I think— melodious singing, cool guitar, wordy lyrics Children of the Damned - Already such a grand ballad. I know this is gonna go crazy - I like how theatrical they are; I’m not sure how else to put it - I feel like Pat from Fallout Boy sacrificed chickens to kinda sound like this guy. Very very clear similarities - THIS RIFF??? It is melting my face off in the best way - The way he sings tha last note is so funny. Like, almost a parody? It’s interesting hearing the old stuff that precedes my references Prisoner - I like the skit! - Yeahhahahahahahhhh - Cute, a little cheesy. Sounds like it could be in a movie. - I bet some old MAGA dudes like this lolololol 22 Acacia Avenue - Actually… maybe I was good with just, like, 3 songs’ worth of this. - Yeah, I’m over this one. It’s kind of annoying. Looking forward to the next one since it’s the titular track and apparently a banger? TBD. - Oh! I like this little.. riff? Instrumental interlude? Idk what you call this— a palate cleanser? - There’s TWO MINUTES left?! Ugh. The Number of the Beast - damn, this was the big one, and I kind of zoned out. I’m sure it was good.. Run to the Hills - Ooh this one is crazy and fun - Ok, but WHAT is the concept of this album? The lyrics are wild. Is it a metaphor? Is this considered a “concept” album, or are they just like this? - Very grand ideas about life and death, good and evil, taking a stand or whatever Gangland - First off, this title?? Lol - Ok JAZZY! That cymbal! - “Dead men tell no tales” ok bud - Are these guys actually tough guys? I’m wondering if they are real ones or just, you know, bards. Hallowed Be Thy Name - big finish! I like it
I get why people love this band, it's just not my style. I worked in a record store in the 80s with lots of metal fans as customers and a few as coworkers. Great folks, friendly and positive, and I heard from them what they loved about Iron Maiden. 40 years later, they still love them. The guitar and drums are wildly energetic, the vocals distinctive, and from what l can hear and my limited knowledge, they set the bar for the genre. Giving it 3 stars for that, not because I particularly like it. :)
This album was a good surprise. I'm not the biggest metalhead, but I enjoyed this one alright.
Better than expected
Classic metal, dude. Not their best work, but still a good time. The title track always brings me back to Guitar Hero 3. Does anyone else think about Tenacious D when they listen to Iron Maiden, or is it just me?
Feel like I'll be a bit of an outlier here in that I liked this less than Iron Maiden's debut. Maybe due to a bit of familiarity with some of the bigger songs, but I also feel like they lean much more into the fantastical.
Previously unknown. I enjoyed this way more than expected. I couldn't understand what they were talking about, but the whole thing sounded like a heavy metal jukebox musical.
Fun enough you can't really hate it but not much with lasting appeal. Gets in and out without wasting your time though!
Tuff Fave Track: Run for the Hills
Not bad
I recognized a couple songs to my surprise. This wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Some of the songs were okay like children of the damned. Overall they were just 5 star songs to me.
It’s interesting to me that there was ever a panic about music like this. It just seems so unbelievably nerdy. Just ok to me.
Logan and I listened to this togethet and he said I should give this album a 5. Alas, not my jam but I see why people like it.
A few bangers in here, i never listened to the whole album in order its p good. Vocals are stellar, along w drums and bass
guitarras mt boas mas eu odeio esse jeito de cantar que eu nao sei o nome e eu iria rir da minha cara a 3 anos atras pq iron maiden foi minha banda favorita
6/10 - Favorite song: Children of the damned
178/1089 This was decent, i already knew some of it due to osmosis from family/friends so that made it more accessible for me. It’s not for me but it was an enjoyable first/one-time listen. faves: Run to the Hills, Children of the Damned 64/100
Dad rock!!!! Love it
3/5
80s Metal sure is something Favourite Songs: 22 Acacia Avenue, Hallowed Be Thy Name
This is pretty sick overall. There are some clear highlights. I’m not a huge fan of this sort of literal story telling in music but I dig this
More fun than I expected, kind of musically honestly - 3/5
I admit I wasn’t looking forward to listening to this, not being a metal fan and having a vague idea of what to expect. I won’t say I was blown away, but I actually kind of taken with the tunefulness and musicianship here — even if I could have used a couple more moments to catch my breath! Where I was most wrong: I expected an AC/DC-like screechiness to the vocals, but the singing was a real strength here. I still don’t like metal very much, but I’ve always respected it. I understand why this might be someone’s favorite band.
Dos canciones van en mi playlist 1001: The Prisoner, Hollowed Be Thy Name.
I’ve never been much of a Maiden fan from what I’ve heard despite loving a lot of metal. This is the first time I’ve ever really sat down and listened to one of their albums and I’m not really impressed. Hallowed is by far the best track and most of it was relatively kinda lame. Not a big fan of the singer’s voice either.
Teenage me was big into all kinds of metal, but adult me thinks it's just okay most of the time. This was a good album though and I enjoyed the listen.
old metal not my style but i rock with it
Classic early '80s metal, with the thunderous bonus of Steve Harris putting a shot of adrenaline into heavy metal bass. There are some weird moments where the tempo goes wonky, but the band is 100% together, so it's not really a problem. Favorites: "The Prisoner", "Run to the Hills"
Surprisingly traditional rock save for some fairly anodyne satanic lyrics. Fun but not for me.
Na verdade, me surpreende muito bandas clássicas de hard rock e heavy metal serem britânicas, sempre associei esses sons a uma estética estadunidense Faixas favoritas: Children of the Damned, Run to the Hills
3.5 stars for this one. I’m not a huge Maiden fan but this is their best album in my opinion. Plenty on here that will captivate my attention.
A good song or two.
Overall 7/10. Not my personal fave but there are some really good songs on this one!
1st song like the guitar at the start. a bit unsure about the lead vocals (is he british?) really like the instrumental. very cool 2nd song liking this one a bit better. i like the bass and the song is slower overall but picks up at the chorus 3rd song not a big fan of the verses here i feel like hes just yelling. but i like the chorus 4th song i feel like this song feels familiar. i quite like it 5th song i think this is the title track. i like how grand it feels. definitely one of my more enjoyed songs on the album 6th song this song is very political was not expecting that. i like the message though. and i actually really like the song too. its very fast paced like the beat is constant 7th song very repetitive. not my favourite 8th song decent but nothing special
I've loved the title track for years, but I had never listened to the entire album. The musicianship is impressive throughout, particularly the bassist and lead guitarist. Lyrics can be corny. The lead singer is talented, but his vocal style is very dated. Composition is good. My problem with rating this album right now is that I'm very much a metal dilettante. I know it's not a five because it doesn't stand up to Paranoid, Master of Puppets, or maybe even the Black Album, but I have no idea where it ranks against the full albums of metal bands I think I might like (e.g., Slayer, Megadeth, Pantera, Judas Priest, Motorhead), or metal bands I suspect I won't like (e.g., Def Leppard, Poison, Motley Crue). I just haven't listened to a ton of metal albums in full. I'm going to play it safe and say... Strong 3.
The album is good, although maybe it gets too long because it's not my favourite genre. But there are several songs that are very nice.
I like Iron Maiden’s music but can never get used to the high register vocals. Just doesn’t appeal to me. Also, wow, those lyrics. These were written during sophomore year study hall (UK equivalent)? 3 because I like the music.
Better then i was expecting. "Run to the Hills" is pretty catchy.
With Maiden I kind of recognise that they are good at what they do but it’s just not for me. All the Eddie stuff is good fun and all but it’s more appealing to teenage boys and men who used to listen to Iron Maiden when they were teenage boys. The novelty wears off very quickly. Anyhow, the best bit is the intro to Run To The Hills, which is banging. 3 stars
Golly riffs, a classic fr. Nothing special, every song sounds the same, they definitely have a certain sound, sounds like they found a formula that worked and stayed with it, lazy but iconic.
Was very familiar with Run to the Hills before listening and The Number of the Beast. The only record I own of Iron Maiden is Place of Mind.
5/10
i fw it. the number of the beast made me lock in it was good i felt like nicki minaj with the pen on fire. not my day to day listen but i feel like i could come back every couple of months. 7/10
Okay I changed my mind, Iron Maiden fuckin slaps. Huge improvement from their debut album in every way. The only problem is—and this might be the 2015 remaster—the mixing is absolute dog roll. It's so tinny. I had to bass boost the shit out of the EQ just to get any low-end happening here. Other than that, this is a pretty good album. I don't think I'll listen to the whole thing again, but some of the tracks are definitely going in my workout playlist.
Iconic, but feels really cheesy. Melodramatic but not really in a good way. Standouts: Run to the Hills Gangland
This album gave us "The Number Of The Beast" and "Run To The Hills" which are both genre classics. I'd classify this as Hard Rock except the suggestion of the title track makes it feel real edgy for the early 80s. If this is Metal, it's gateway metal almost purpose built to appeal to young teens. It's well made and easy to listen to, as long as you can stomach the screeching vocals. Hard to get very worked up on this one either way.
no one
My wife’s first thoughts when hearing this album: “Wayne’s World”
lowkey fire, i didn’t think i would enjoy but it wasn’t as heavy metal kinda idk but i liked it and will prolly add a few to my playlist
Not for me at all. Appreciate its solid music, cant get on board with the vocals 3/5
First exposure to maiden, liked it more than I expected, the guitars are incredible
I was pleasantly surprised by this.
There are a few exceptions but most of the time I can't get past the operatic vocal approach. I think everything else about it is exceptional but the vocal hampers my overall experience with it.
It’s ok, just not my thing.
Yeah this is pretty cool. Could up to 4 stars at some point.
Ok listen. this is not a typical 3 for me. Usually I give an album a 3 if it was sort of a wash for me, nothing stood out, etc. While I actively do not resonate with this kind of music, there is so much undeniable talent that I feel a sort of reverence for it. I mean, the vocals alone are insane. I probably won't listen to this again, but I'm glad to have listened once.
Still surprised that I like Iron Maiden. It's cheesy, but maybe I'm a mouse 🧀🐁
Didn't finished
Absolutely loved the instrumentals. Pretty much every song had a solid guitar solo. The drums were interesting. Lots of time changes within each song. The vocals? Ballad-y and corny. The lyrics? Only something a middle school DND player would find cool.
First album
This is another solidly Not For Me album, but I can appreciate the artistry behind it and why other people like it. I can't believe I enjoyed an Iron Maiden album more than Herbie Hancock (never again) but life is a rich tapestry, I guess.
A little heavy, but good driving rock.
Meddl Leute
Well, the singing isn’t for me. But gosh darn it the guitar playing and song writing charmed me. I get it why they rose to the top of the heavy metal genre in the early 80’s.
Exactly what you'd expect from Iron Maiden
Didn’t do much for me, but Hallowed Be Thy Name is a sick song.
The singles are great, the others don't hit even close to being as good
Eh? Fine? Les hits rentrent dans le dash mais sinon idk man
ok
Really loved the Prisoner sound bite
I've heard worse. I've heard better. The whole demon/death-creature thing is so middle-school. Grow up, lads. Just play the frickin' music. Who cares what mother in some middle America state thinks you play diddly with Satan? It's banal, that. 3 stars for the music; 1 star for the juvenile theatrics.
A whole song about killing colonisers? My dark woke kings
Some cool stuff- timing and time signature kinds don’t work it seems
My mom told me to stop listening to this because Satan. That's all I feel I have to say right now (7/10, 3/5 on this scale)
Was cool. Better than I thought it would be. Similar to a heavy rock, not metal
\m/ \m/
Pretty good, I really enjoy "hard" or "heavy" rock music that's also actually good. "Run to the Hills" is an all-time classic. 3/5.
Not a metalhead, but I liked the energy of this one. Listening as a Christian, it's funny to me that the title track brought so much pearl-clutching. It's not promoting Satanism—it's a nightmare about darkness that someone's trying to escape. Bruce Dickinson's voice is what I think of with heavy metal, and the high-speed guitar harmonies give the album a structure that's very listenable and not just noise. The storytelling throughout the album is impressive, from social and historical critiques to the last track, Hallowed Be Thy Name, about a prisoner facing the gallows. Not my favorite genre, but better than I thought.
It's not my taste but for once it's perfectly acceptable
many biblical references - sounded a bit like epic poetry. very arcane language.
There’s elements of Iron Maiden I can really appreciate. I think Bruce has a fucking phenomenal voice for this music, and Steve Harris is one of the best rock bass players of all time. Saying that, I find their output so dull. They have some great singles, but to listen to a whole album of this stuff is tough going.
It’s very dramatic. The guitar is good, and I like a metal album where the lyrics are decipherable. I’m not going to casually put this on, but it’s almost campy so I don’t mind it
This was actually better than I expected it to be. Definitely better than KISS Destroyer which I had yesterday and it squeaked out a 3 star but I can’t justify it getting the 4 star - a 3.49 star perhaps?!?
Wasn't expecting the clip of the Prisoner, that was a lot of fun. I AM NOT A NUMBER I AM A FREE MAN. Some of these albums (the Megadeth comes to mind) I wish I had really gotten into when I was a teenager. It's not that the music is juvenile it's that I no longer have the spare energy to head bang the way that this music demands of the listener. Still a rock solid 3.5.
I waffled for a bit, then 3 things: 1.) Number of the Beast solo 2.) Number of the Beast Screeachm 3.) seeing them live is the only way to listen. I really appreciated the guitar a lot more. Also, Run to the Hills is a bop.
I could see it growing on me but I also don't imagine I'll revisit.
It is heavy and its metal. It is not the worst album. The title track is fantastic.
Run to the Hills has been a fav since '82 Good to hear the whole album again
Mer roligt än bra, men det är väldigt roligt!
Solid album for metal heads. Just not for me
Great album, some really good hits on here and overall I think it's a standout of the genre.
No doubt the instrumentation is amazing. It would make a great score for a movie. It feels like this was genre-defining however, it’s a genre I don’t love. The vocal stylings are just not my taste but I think this could easily pivot into something more punkish that I would enjoy
Besser als gedacht
Surprisingly decent. If partially stars were available I’d give it 3.25 stars.
If you think you might like iron maiden, you will like this. It is surprisingly well produced, and the musicians clearly have talent.
Not that bad actually. Run to the Hill is a decent song. Feels less generic than Metallica that's for sure.
Lies sich gut hören. Nix besonderes 3/5
Apparently this whole time Iron Maiden is the sound I thought Black Sabbath had. It rocks.
Pretty nice heavy metal. Occasionally quite silly, yeah, but sometimes quite powerful too.
Slightly ridiculous and of its time, but enjoyable in parts.
First full listen, but heard some songs before. 3.5 I actually enjoyed this album. I got this only one or two after getting Master of Puppets, and it's interesting to hear the difference in styles. To me this is a much more fun album, and I can even hear some similarities to later-era Black Flag, especially on the first track.
Solid
I can see why mothers in the 80s were scared of this music. Lyrically kinda grim but musically pretty great. Averages to a 3.
Ok so this album has some hits I was familiar with and really enjoy. The music is fantastic but the Singing I really don't love. It kind of bored me. However I tried a different album and listened to Powerslave and enjoyed it a lot more.
Not really for me but liked it slightly more than I expected.
Sounds funny now. Association with silly characters in comedy movies. Like jack black etc.
Iron Maiden instrumentals > 👍🏾 Iron Maiden vocals > 👎🏾 Not that they were bad but his voice kinda got annoying there for a while. Some songs were pretty alright. The album as a whole was better than I expected.
Solid foundational metal album
I can understand the cultural impact Iron Maiden had, and not just on metal as a genre, but the sound and lyrics are so corny and boring. Still better than Metallica though.
Iron Maiden sounds like the most approachable metal ever, not sure if it's a thing for me and not sure if it's a thing for fans. I feel like the songs that are most well known of theirs are not in the included albums, and that's a shame! Because I were learning them on the guitar lessons. 3 or 4, really.
For an album with a new vocalist, it's a strong effort. When it works, it really works. This album was the springboard for the rest of the Bruce Dickinson era. A good album, but not great.
5/5 for pure rock and roll ethos. I love the attitude and I love the cover art, I just can't help but hear the music as almost a parody of itself. Maybe it's form watching too much tenacious D and spinal tap as a kid growing up but I really have a hard time taking this album as seriously as it is intended. Maybe Im wrong and it's supposed to be a bit tongue and cheek, in which case it's great, but I really think Iron Maiden it's trying to be sincere in their approach to songwriting and unfortunately to me it just comes of as a bit cheesy.
I mean it's fine. Jesus Christ Superstar is basically a better version of this
Honestly enjoyed it more than I thought that I would. Some pretty symphonic melodies. Not sure if it could become a go to band but I was pleasantly surprised.
Meh, not into the vocals. I get that it was probably groundbreaking for its time, but I personally can't get into it.
Solid metal album. I didn’t love the vocals on this one and it wouldn’t be an album I played again, but I can appreciate the sound for what it is. 3/5.
Admittedly, Iron Maiden’s vocal style has never really been my favorite, but there’s no denying it’s a genre-defining classic. (Also: “Run for the Hills”—wow!
There’s something so unique and almost flamboyant about the sound of heavy metal to me. The vocals are often really impressive, expressive, and melodically beautiful, as they are in this album. It’s such an exaggerated form of expression, and Iron Maiden really takes that exaggeration to an almost cartoonish level. It’s kind of a juvenile idea of “evil,” and hardcore, simple lyrics and references to the devil and such. I almost wish it were a bit goofier to really sell it. I generally don’t love the metallic, grinding sound of the electric guitars as much as I like the brooding sound of the early Sabbath album I listened to recently. But the slow/fast compositions are fun and the timing and high level of control are very impressive. This isn’t gonna be for me but I get it.
I get why it’s important and the influence it had. Just not my cup of tea.
Initially, I thought to myself "here we go again" - feeling like CJ dropped off on a street corner with only a walkman and a cassette tape of NWOBHM music to listen to. I don't think I'm any stranger to voicing my disdain for power metal and despite not being tagged as such, since musically it's not really, the vocals by Bruce Dickinson are exactly the same as many power metal bands. Now, that being said, I do understand why Iron Maiden is popular and it became even more clear to me after hearing Children of the Damned. I'm not confident on this statement but I do think Metallica's Metallica is heavily based off this song. While I enjoyed the aforementioned song and Hallowed Be Thy Name, the rest of the album is the kind of heavy metal that I don't really care for. This combined with Mr. Dickinson's voice, doesn't really make this a relistenable project for me.
5/10
Not my cup of tea. It is a well made album though. I just don’t like the style.
As a guitar player I can appreciate the extremely high level of guitar mastery. The blend of hard riffs with driving solos is really hard to pull off well. As a bad singer I can also appreciate when someone shouldn’t be singing. This album is a perfect example of why metal had so many bad singers for so many years. Also lyrics were written by someone who played too many table top RPGs. If submitted to a high school poetry class he would fail. So cringy.
Sometimes feels like Journey but heavy.
One of their best albums
Along side with many other metal genres (like 'Power Metal','Speed Metal' or 'Glam Metal'), 'New Wave Of British Heavy Metal' is a style I have never invested my time into neither I was interested to. And this applies to Iron Maiden, as they fall into this category. What I disliked the most about the record is Bruce Dickinson kind of operatic singing. I find it to be a bit irritating, but it is not a particular problem I have against him, it is something to do with this style of voice in general. For the rest, it is very decent. The band certainly feels like is having fun and that they are very talented musicians. In addition, I wouldn't say that there is a bad song in here. Nervertheless, this album didn't change my opinions and feelings about this genre.
Number of the Beast is one of my fave songs from Iron Maiden. The album as a whole is okay. They’re definitely a better singe maker than they are album makers, which seems to be a trend in most “old-school” metal bands
normal
Definitely not a fan of metal. Run to the Hills is a 10/10 banger.
This album JUST creeps in to be a 3/5 as it has 3 of Iron Maiden’s 5 good songs. They’re a real shrug shoulders band for me, like someone’s drawn a caricature of metal. 3.0/5.0 Best Song: The Number Of The Beast
Love Number of the Beast, Run for the Hills and not much else
A couple songs were good. Not something I would go out of my way to listen to.
I havent listened to much Iron Maiden. I always find it surprising how melodic they are given the reputation. This one was alright.
Very good heavy metal. I definitely don't love this type of metal but I had a good time. Strong 3*
This was so camp and I really liked it. Probably would never listen to it again but that one listen was definitely worth it.
Good
Fun metal album. Nothing groundbreaking but still a good time. 3.5/5 Might listen again
6/10 Favorite: The Prisoner
I dig the songwriting, but not the genre itself
You don’t have to like it but, you have to respect it.
Like a combination of thrash metal and hard rock. Not quite what I was expecting. Not terrible, but would likely not revisit it. A true 2.5 stars.
Gave this a go despite my previous reservations. Objectively its a good example of early 80s British Heavy Metal and carries off some memorable hits like, 'run to the hills'. The rest of it is just don't get.
Only sabbath can overcome the corniness of metal lyrics with the power of their rock. Everyone else tries real hard, and does ... ok. However, traitor/faggot/soft boi Petey Hegseth would do well to listen to Run to the Hills on repeat and meditate on how mammothly goddamn stupid and weak he is.
Enjoyed it more than I expected but not something I’ll have on repeat. Children of the Damned and Run to the Hills for the playlist.
It's fun, you know what you are getting with a Maiden album
It's fine
Decent, fundamental, metal.
Nah
Gallops along in a rather fun way, even if it is all a bit of nonsense. Dickinson is a better singer than Di'Anno, but he's a bit too operatic for my tastes.
The good: The singer can SING. Some of the songs have cool riffs and are worth revisiting. The not-so-good: The lyrics are really bad. They're not even good in a campy way. Just bad. The mastering is awful. Beside the 2-3 songs that are relistenable, the rest isn't.
Den ersten track muss man durchstehen, danach hört sich The Number of the beast aber doch erstaunlich gut weg. Leider werde ich mit dem Gesang nicht so wirklich warm auf Dauer.
Je ne suis pas un fan de métal vintage. C’est intéressant d’un point de vu historique, mais c’est pas mal ça.
I’d give it 666 stars if this thing let me but it doesn’t so I’ll give it 3.
Norse mythology, apocalyptic literature, unjust imprisonment, and the slaughter of the Cree, Iron Maiden feels like the soundtrack to a alternative medieval theme park where all the snacks are served from spits, the carnival games involve torture devices, and the roller coasters are made of rotting wood. Musically, it is well done, but content-wise it is a hodgepodge of adolescent inquiry.
capas foda mas música mid...
Heavy metal is probably one of my least favourite genres. Its done ok here but i just cant get past the cheesyness of this genre. Uhm hallowed be thy name is pretty good. Invaders is a terrible chioce for an intro track. 7/10 Favourite: The Prisoner Least Favourite: Invaders
It’s OK
Yep !
some great songs, but album only ok
Straightforward metal
Run to the hills classic song I remember listening to from video games. Everything else sorta similiar sounding. Hard rock man. 6/10 some good stuff great vocals but I am a bit more of an alternative guy.
Tufft, argt och manligt! Inte alls dåligt (om en är tuff, arg och manlig). Men, de tar sig på lite för stort allvar! Lite självdistans, tack.
🤘
Rob Halford has a voice that should have been in better music. Still, good heavy metal.
Standouts 22 Acacia Avenue Run to the Hills Hallowed be Thy Name
из альбома нравится только песня про горы, потому что она была в игре SSX: on tour
Early 70’s British metal at its finest. It’s hard to dislike Maiden.
It's campy fun theatrical rock, Bruce Dickinson is a class singer and the band are talented. So I don't know why I just can't get on board with Iron Maiden. The over the top 'metal' iconography and themes for a band who are basically classic rock with some galloping rhythm sections is slightly off putting. Actually I don't care how heavy it is, rather that it means everything is thematically one note, ah it's all scary and monsters and midnight and that. Didn't know run to the hills was about native Indians, clearly a common topic of songwriting for 80s Brits, still the best song I'd say. It was an enjoyable listen for one go but I'll never be a proper fan.
My first metal Album I heard until the end. It was quite fun to listen but not really my thing.
A little heavy on the ballad-type vocals for me, but those drums were so clean.
Random thoughts: * Solid rocking all around here. * I was always kinda terrified of Iron Maiden due to their album covers. The album covers are way more scary than the music. * "Run To The Hills" is a good one that I've heard before. * Iron Maiden is somewhere in between heavy metal and hair metal. * This feature "THE Bruce Dickinson"!! * Some day when I commit to my metal phase I'm sure this rating will go way up.
Heavy metal isn't a genre I like. However, this album would be an exception. Guitar and drum are solid. Good vocal as well.
Marginally better than much the metal recommended on this list
I like Sabbath better
I think I said this for another of their albums. I appreciate the technical prowess, I just don't like the music.
my cat rubbed his head against the phone while this album was playing, I think it means it's good
Been probably more than 25 years since I listened to this. I used to think that it was totally kid stuff. Surprised that I did not dislike this.
Pure metal. Not my jam, but this is pure metal!
And only be described as cheesy. They remind me a lot of Tenacious D. I really just don't like the vocals I guess. Heard one song heard them all for this album. None of them are bad, just very similar. It's a difficult one to rate.
Not for me
Good but a lot of songs didn't quite hit
Some of the most listenable metal I've ever heard in my life, just not really my thing.
Mixed feelings on this album for sure. I don't think the overall vibe is quite my thing but there are undeniably some good songs/solos in here. "Children of the Damned", "Run To The Hills", and " Hallowed Be Thy Name" were the standouts to me.
This was fine. It was better than I expected, but not something I’d go back to revisit.
3.2
For theatrical metal it doesn’t get much better than this.
It all sounds the same.
I know a few people who are obsessed with Iron Maiden. I can see why, but it's not for me. This is pretty good though.
GREAT guitar, great energy, not something I'm gonna add to my collection but I did enjoy this quick jaunt down to metal-land
Rock on. Great album, thought this was more controversial when it came out then it feels now.
Pleasant surprise. Not so bad. Not 'my type' of music, but worth a listen. Rating: 3
Of course I’m going to hate this album, this isn’t my sort of thing. Turns out I was wrong! This is more listenable than I expected with melodies that complimented the heavy riffs. I’m not sure the lyrics will win any songwriting awards but it’s a good listen, better than I ever imagined it would be.
The music is fine isn’t it, but Dickinson’s vocals style while entertaining, the subject matter is just a bit stupid (and the Acacia avenue one just wrong) and it’s not particularly tongue in cheek. It just means it all sounds a bit silly to me.
Not bad but probably won’t revisit.
I've been doing my best to try to get into iron Maiden since the late '70s. I just can't do it. They seem like a cool band, got nothing against them, I just don't like the music
Killers is my favorite Maiden album and I prefer Paul Di'Anno's vocals (sorry for my unpopular Iron Maiden opinion). There are some really fun/excellent songs on here (Run to the Hills, Number of the Beast, Hallowed..., Prisoner); there are other songs that are a slog (Children of the Damn is the epitome of all the things I don't like about Bruce).
I was listening to this aloud when the question came from the next room - “Is this the band who does “Steve’s Laca Chicken”?
Fun, fast, energetic. Feels like i should be throwing devil horns which is probably the vibe.
-my first Iron Maiden experience. idk i think a lot of it is a bit corny and didn’t age too well, but other than that i liked it -i think the strongest aspect of this whole album is the instrumentals, honestly. exciting and rather hypnotic. would be up for listening to some more stuff by them -Favorites are The Number Of The Beast and Run to the Hills
I don't think I've ever listened to Iron Maiden but I was very pleasantly surprised. rock awn
I've never enjoyed Iron Maiden. And I feel like all of their songs sound like the same song, but I recognize that is just because I'm not a fan and don't listen extensively to the genre. I also recognize their contribution to rock.
It’s a vibe
The operatic singing got a little annoying but overall this was more palatable than I was expecting. I know of Iron Maiden but never really listened to it. Couldn’t stop thinking of James from Love on the Spectrum.
...
Thanks to having a taste in music that runs far noisier than most, my main reaction to most of the canonized metal albums is "was *that* it?" Like, the riffs are fast, and I guess they came off as loud and dangerous to the average listener back then, but I'm not the average listener. Unfortunately, Iron Maiden is a victim of that same dynamic; I'm sitting around listening for it to get scary and it just... never does? I know it's not even just that I'm unfairly judging it according to the standards of noise rock, because Motorhead managed to do it right around this same timeframe! That being said, I'm convinced by Bruce Dickinson as a really good vocalist for the band, so maybe listening to more will get me there someday. Just not today, and not with this album.
tenho memórias mto felizes de tocar baixo numa igreja usando a camisa do the number of the beast de resto, tem umas boas, tem umas ruins, é bem repetitivo e levemente cansativo
No surprises on here. You get what you expect and it’s very good!
Delightfully hit all the metal cliches I expected, can definitely see why Bill & Ted idolized them. Everything you want out of cheesy 80s metal, but don't know if it's ever going to speak to me the way it did to people back then
Pretty solid rock/metal album.
This is my first Iron Maiden record. I've long been familiar with their logo but had never listened before today. This is not my favorite style of music but this is well.done and there are good songs on here. 3/5
Two classic songs on an overall good record
