Reviews (page 8 of 13)

great metal album. I'll be listening to it more often. That is all.

Enjoyed hearing this front-to-back for the first time in years. This album still holds up as a solid set of metal tracks. Paved the way for bands like Metallica to revolutionize the genre.

The guitars left me moist

We just hit the lotto today apparently!! Yeah this album is awesome. The speed and temp kick you in the pants right off the hop. Some great musicianship all around and Bruce’s voice is some of the best in the biz. I admit I haven’t heard this record. I know many iron maiden songs but less so for albums in their entirety. So this is blank slate for me sage for the title track and run to the hills. They have some awesome energy, a metal band but it’s not super heavy! Prisoner was stand out to me and might be my song on this record. 22 Acacia avenue was a long track that tells a story of charolette the concubine. A lot of the subject matter seems to be about murder, marauding, and other devilish things. Hallowed be thy name’s intro reminded me of some straight Halloween shit.

Here. We. GO! This album is great. Full of great songs that not only have great riffs, but also switch things up with bridges and pre-choruses and solos all over to keep you interested. The instrumentation is fantastic, everyone here is so good at their instruments. The standout is the bass, which often flies off into an excellent riff or has some counter-melody lines in the chorus or something. As someone who is not overly into metal, I found this album to take the best aspects of metal (energy, instrumentation) and kept them in a format where the songwriting and music can really shine through and without getting carried away with overly long tracks or overly repetitive foundations. The highlight for me is the run from The Number of the Beast to Gangland, where all three are fantastic songs that seem to be just the right length. I really like Hallowed Be Thy Name as well but that one runs just a touch long for me, I find it loses my attention before it ends usually which is a shame for the final track of the album. Just a small negative though on a mountain of excellence. Of the albums we've done so far, this is the new number one.

Ok, this album was good. Glad I gave it a listen.

What a cracker of an album. Hard to go past The Number Of The Beast and Run to the Hills for my faves at the moment but would certainly love to explore further.

I actually liked this but it's a thing I would have to be in the right mood to listen to. They are skilled musicians and the lyrics are crazy, sensational and over the top. Pretty funny. Probably not what they were going for, but I enjoy it that way.

The outrage that conservatives have over albums like this is hilarious. It's like the outrage that exists today for the mumble rappers and how they're the next devil re-incarnate. At least with metal bands they embraced the "stereotype" and had fun with it - just look at the album cover! Overall it was a fun head-banging album that really does stand the test of time, oh to have been to one of their early gigs would have been incredible! Best: The Number Of The Beast Worst: 22 Acacia Avenue

Iconic metal album. That’s it. Powerful

Tunes to speed to Victoria to

My teen years were all in the 80s, so I remember vividly the fairly large number of 3/4-sleeve t-shirts with this image and other Iron Maiden images on them. I was more into what we now call "classic rock" and progressive rock, so I didn't pay much -- really, any -- attention to this band and other big-name metal acts. I honestly don't recall hearing any of their music before. So, given that I've not typically listened to much metal/thrash/hardcore/etc. music, I'm glad this project is introducing me to quite a bit of it. This band -- at least on this album; I'm inspired now to check out some of their other work -- is really strong. They compose and perform more musically and melodically than I would have guessed, yet of course, they always have that hard-driving metal sound. What surprised me were things like their very well-performed vocal harmonies. Instrumentally, they are superbly tight and deliver so well. This album was released in 1982 (and the band had been together for 7 years by then), so I can hear how it influenced a lot of acts that followed in the 80s and 90s. By the way, even though I didn't listen to the band back then, I've always loved their album art. It was fun to read about it, learn about Eddie, and really fun to revel in the ridiculousness of the conservative backlash against the band for being "Satanists". Hilarious. (Although I do get how any time religious conservatives focused their energy on a particular band, that band's album and concert ticket sales went way up, which is even funnier.) The artist put Salvador Dali's face on the devil figure as a joke. Love it. I think most everyone knows this by now, but another fun fact is how an "iron maiden" as a purported medieval torture device did not actually exist. It was either made up by owners of European tourist sites in the 18th or 19th centuries or misunderstood by them. Back to the album. Once again, this project has opened my ears to a band whose music I probably would've ignored my whole life. So cool.

The best example of this kind of music. Crisp and genuinely exciting to listen to.

A good album. A couple of the songs run a little long. The second half of the album is better than the first half. It is not quite a 4 but I will round up because of the second half had some well known songs.

I enjoyed this A LOT more than I thought I would have!

Actually pretty good. 🤷‍♂️

I was expecting this to be very samey but it keeps things interesting throughout. Banging tunes if you don't take it too seriously and accept it's a little dated sounding now

I honestly don't think I've ever sat down and listened to Iron Maiden, which feels like a huge blind spot but this is a really solid album. Aside from a few exceptions, I don't listen to a ton of metal. I kind of had different expectations for Iron Maiden. These are good, melodic songs and catchy choruses. I liked this one way more than I was expecting to. Standout Tracks: Children of the Damned, The Prisoner, The Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, Hallowed Be Thy Name

Enjoyable

Genres: Heavy Metal Formed: Leyton, East London, in 1975 The Number of the Beast is the bands third studio album. Within a few seconds of any song, it is recognisably Iron Maiden. The album only contains 8 tracks running at less than 40 minutes, which is disappointing and a bit short by today’s standards. I enjoyed four of the eight tracks; the others were OK. I love Iron Maiden, but I don’t think I’ll listen to the album again, I’ll stick to the Best of… All the tracks have over 1M listens on Spotify, the best three have over 100M listens which is incredible. My Rating: ****

what a metal album should be

I really enjoyed this album! The songs had great energy but didn't lose the melody or musicality that I so often am missing while listening to other metal bands. The only thing keeping my rating from a 5 is that so many of the songs sound very similar but I would definitely go back to listen to Iron Maiden!

I’m so confused am I becoming a metal fan? This album is technical and punches you in the mouth. Plus I felt like Jack Black could be the frontman of Iron Maiden which is a cool visual.

Better than the Megadeth album, so 4 stars.

I thought I’d already reviewed this such is it’s fame and fortune. Great rock and not as scary or hard to listen to as non-metallers might think. Terrific anthemic heavy metal songs and a catchy singalong "pop" song in Run To The Hills, albeit about marauders laying waste to a village settlement! And what an ending - The Guardian voted five of the eight songs on this LP into their list of Top 30 Greatest Maiden songs with Hallowed Be Thy Name at No.1. Possibly true, if it wasn't for the earlier Phantom Of The Opera🤟🏽

Important album for the time, still holds up even if I'm not the biggest maiden fan

Loved it. Childhood favourite of Dickenson era Maiden at their best.

8/10 really like iron maiden, didn't finish the album in time but I know what to expect from iron maiden

Classic Maiden. Clearly influenced by The Who, Zeppelin, and prog rock, but dominated by Dickinson’s vocals. None of the songs are bad, and there are several very strong tracks, notably Run to the Hills.

Bruce Dickinson's voice is amazing and there's a lot to enjoy on this album. Hard and driving, with enough immediately catchy riffs and variety that makes it compelling. Definitely like the haunting parts of Children of the Damne and Hallowed Be Thy Name. Really enjoyable.

Good album, never been a fan of them because of the big theatrical vocals. I know that's what draws some people to them. from a music standpoint they are amazing. The grandfathers of modern rock. Favorite song: The prisoner

Very Nostalgic but don’t find myself listening very often

It's Maiden. I don't know how you can't enjoy it (though I'm sure some people don't). It's fun, campy, cheesy, but also requires full-throated singing. Favorite tracks: "Run To the Hills", "The Number of the Beast", "Hallowed Be Thy Name"

I mean it’s good but I don’t think it’s much of an improvement from the first iron maiden album 4/5 just like I gave that one.

Algumas músicas famosas e boas, mas achei meio repetitivo.

Great dark theatrical themes, storytelling and mood. would listen again. highlight track run for the hills.

Bangin

Everybody knows Iron maiden, including me. But never took the time to listen to a full album until now and I don’t regret it. The hard rock combined with the vocals and melodic chorus makes all the songs very easy to listen to, even if they are 6 minutes or longer. Favourite songs: - The prisoner - Run to the hills

Good old fashioned 80's Heavy Metal. Nothing too deep or meaningful here but it's fun.

Holy shit! Invaders is the most incredible high octane hard rock album opener I think I've ever heard! This is the way to start a Friday, I'm fucking awake now. My day could use some devil worship, and black magic fuckery, right on. Bruce was a really key addition to the lineup.

Saw them live recently so started to listen more to their music in prep. Glad I did. I was more open to hearing this whole record. Songwriting and execution both very strong.

Liked this a lot more than I expected tbh. Just the right amount of silliness! It's got the one pretty misogynistic song that I could live without, but the rest is quite good. Obviously the singer is a bit of an acquired taste, but his voice grew on me as I listened to the whole thing. Again, just the right amount of silliness.

These dudes have to be one of the tightest, crispest metal bands of all time. It’s not just “trash” metal or “death” metal - there’s an art to it. They are talented musicians who used their skill for evil! Rarrr! Just kidding - but this album is awesome.

I get it. I'm into it. Cool guys playing cool things on cool instruments. With passion! Highlights: Gangland Hallowed Be Thy Name

It's a classic when it comes to heavy metal ... popular edition. It's fun revisiting it after all these years.

Very Good. Haven't heard any Iron Maiden before but if they release anything new I'll probably be on that.

Finally seeing the light on Iron Maiden, great riffs, good lyrics and very metal singing

This album kicked some ass. It definitely reminded me of Megadeth forsure. I was surprised i actually knew some of these songs already. The number of the beast was a great song. Lowkey they did not go as crazy as I thought they were going to. Badass 7/10

This is so amusingly twee that it's almost impossible to realise how controversial Iron Maiden were. Tshirts with Iron Maiden artwork on them will literally never see a washing machine, let alone be put in one with some detergent. Music is not always inseparable from its listeners. Almost anyone can enjoy, say, hop hop without being clad in trousers that fail to adequately cover the arse, an American football jersey five sizes too large and a backwards baseball cap. It is absolutely possible to enjoy psychedelia without being dressed to the nines in tie-dye linens and reeking of patchouli. It is not possible, however, to be an Iron Maiden fan without having body odour that arrives several minutes before you do, and stays past your departure by several hours. Perhaps said body odour has become semi-sentient? Maybe it gains sustenance and succor from the music itself, as if the exact frequency and harmonics provide life-giving force to it, like something from an episode of Doctor Who? Anyway. This album does exactly what it sets out to do, which is to be the kind of balls to the wall heavy metal piffle that is lapped up by the sorts of people (and their accompanying body odours) who lap up balls to the wall heavy metal piffle.

Another one 16 year old me loved

Not normally into this type of music but it was pleasantly surprising

Heavy-metal del bueno. Un 4.

This album holds up well. Melodic and eminently re-listenable. 4/5

Good, solid metal

Powerful album with fantastic vocals & instrumentation. Removed 1 star for the parts where the lyrics dipped into cliche territory.

Iron Maiden fucking kicks ass, and there's not a lot else to say about it. If you like their style, then you will love this album 4/5

Oh, wow! I have never listened to an entire Iron Maiden album from beginning to end. I knew a couple of songs, like "Run to the hills", but that was it. I really enjoyed listening to The Number of The Beast and the stories they told. Would definitely play it again!

Oh this was good. This was real good. Lyrics were...alright, but the guitar work was mesmerizing. Missing a bit of oomph to push it to a 5.

80s metal.

3.5/5. Not bad, honestly. It certainly is a lot, but I don't mind it. It gets me pumped up. Most of the songs do sound pretty similar, however.

One of the albums I loved as a teen and that might still be in my parent's house. I didn't remember most of the songs and can't give it a 5 because of some not very good ones.

A solid classic metal album, opening up with a banger of a riff and filled with top tunes.

Favourite tracks: -Hallowed Be Thy Name - oh wow! -Run For the Hills

First Iron Maiden album 9/10

Very solid metal album with several stand out songs that were added to the Playlist.

Haven't listened to yet, started yesterday but didn't work super well. From what I heard of the first song I enjoyed it. I'm not sure if this is one of the more respected or well regarded Iron maiden albums, I feel like I'll eventually find out.

B A N G E R S på detta album

Yeeeeeeeeeiyeeeeeeiyeeeeeeee, haaaaaaallowed be thy naaaaaaaaaaaaaaame

Not as great as I remember… but it is as good as I remember 🤘😎

Good, but not my favourite.

Yeah, memories! Some really nice songs to shout along during the live concerts :)) The live version of Hallowed Be Thy Name is great!

Spinal tap vibes, ha, ha!

Nothing like some early 80s UK heavy metal to get you going. Certainly helped I was biking…gave me a boost! Run to the Hills is epic!!!

This isn't really my genre of music; but it is basically the best version possible of this genre.

I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would

Such a good album. There's not too much to say about it from me

I mean it’s Iron Maiden and I do like it personally but it’s a little annoying and I get that. The music is super cool and his voice a little annoying

Ça swing dans les bermudas

Delicious I’m pretty familiar with 3/8 tracks but the others did not disappoint

It’s Iron Maiden, baby

I like metal the same way I like comic books and in that regard this is a great album. Just look at that album cover: you know it's obviously gonna be a little dark, but in a fun and entertaining way, rather than being overly morbid or taking itself too seriously. Definitely my favorite Maiden album.

Fínasti metall. Fullt af góðum lögum. Og röddin.. man oh man!

Lots of good songs on this one.

6.66/10. I'm starting to like Iron Maiden a bit

Irony. 8/10

This album was the second most popular album behind Master of Puppets when I reached high school in 1986. The legacy of Number of the Beast catapults Iron Maiden to the upper echelons of heavy metal because of its quality and its influence. Compared to the metal that would be released after this album broke music, one would think it tame and hardly Heavy Metal. But just like the Beatles and Elvis' music today pales in comparison to the children they spawned, Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast shares the same limelight. 4/5.

I was pleasantly surprised by this. Guitar and vocals are very melodic and it doesn't feel like there's too much flab on the album - it's just a lot of fun. Iron Maiden might have a new admirer. 3.5 / 4

Such impressive musicianship. Their sound has been massively parodied and imitated over the years, but they quality really shines through. Defo deserves its place in this list

Not Listen to iron maiden before. Not much if a metal fan. I have to say I really enjoyed it.

run to the hills is an absolute banger. 4/5

Definitive heavy metal album containing, arguably, three definitive tracks of that genre. Possibly the best last three minutes of any album.

i am not a number / you are number 666

First time listening to Iron Maiden. Solid

Solid 4 - Run to the Hills is an all time classic and enjoyed the rest of it.

Fun album. It had a lot of good cuts on it that put me down a rabbit hole of Sepultura, Pantera, Slayer, Danzig, and more. Really great for the somewhat pissy mood I was in at the time.

IRON MAIDEN!!!! Finally something I know something about! Iron Maiden's place on this list is undisputed, and really there would hardly be a wrong choice to pick from their extensive repertoire of guitar-centric, catchy-yet-elaborate power metal. The Number Of The Beast is a good introduction to the band's brand of hard rock, with galloping riffs, heavy drums and Bruce Dickinson's (who is also a trained pilot and entrepreneur) soaring, operatic vocals. Tracks like Prisoner and the classic Hallow Be Thy Name are prime examples of this, with (slightly) softer tracks like Children Of The Damn serving as the shortest of respites. While the band hardly ever deviate from this formula, both on the album and throughout their collective career, it can be said that when one has such a winning formula that would go on to inspire bands like DragonForce, Hammerfall and Nightwish, it can't hurt to stick to what you know. P.S If you like this band, do also check out Blind Guardian, a contemporary of Iron Maiden.

Bra hela vägen igenom. Lite får många utdragna gitarr/trummsolon. 4/5

Great album!

Simple yet effective

Not quite my favourite genre, but it undeniably has some incredible tunes, classics even. Number of the Beast and Run to The Hills are my two favourite songs of the band. Incredibly powerful and fast paced, showing of both guitar and singing talent. Great album

Rocking.

This is the best metal album I've ever listened to!! That's not saying loads haha I'm not a huge metal fan but I really enjoyed this album. It certainly woke me up this morning... Guitar solos and bass are all over the shop twists and turns so exciting. Love that I can hear the lyrics. I have a lot of love for Jack Black's metal stuff and I can clearly see that this is his inspiration so I still got that nostalgia feeling even though I've never listened before. It's a 4 from me.

Very enjoyable. Good quality metal where it all feels very considered, not just metal for metal sake.

Classic

What they do, they do well. The style isn't the kind of thing I could listen to every day, but when I'm in the mood it's good stuff.

666666

Enjoyed more than I thought I would. Solid album.

Not great for a Sunday

More heavy metal glee from the Beast, Iron Maiden sure sound like they are having a lot of fun. And if you let yourself get lost in the opera of it all then you will too.

Wailing high vocals, kickass guitar riffs, and melodic kickass rock. Not for everyday, but when I'm in the mood for it this stuff rules.

Banging, rocking good fun

141225 11:10 3.5 / highlights: run to the hills, hallowed be thy name

Excellent - forgot how awesome number of the beast and run to the hills are.

Great album that, due to it being not too hard and aggressive and it's somewhat catchy songs is also great for people who are normally not too much into the genre

I rather like the vocals here. Guitar work is phenomenal, as expected. It's a little heavier than my usual, but I dig it. I can see myself listening to this again. The Prisoner and Gangland are my top picks so far. I didn't expect Run to the Hills to be so anti-imperialist.

When I was a wee lad of 12 or so one of the very first CDs I had and listened to on repeat was an Iron Maiden compilation with three songs off this album. The sound of this album is pretty much the definition of nostalgia for me. It still has a couple of strong points. In particular, Bruce Dickinson is simply a fantastic singer and the guitar solos are A+. But on the other hand, you can really hear this album's age, most of Iron Maiden's songs sound pretty samey and tend to go drag on for a bit too long and the lyrics are somewhere between angsty, cringey and completely ridiculous. Early Iron Maiden will always have a place in my heart. But tastes change for a reason and this album is definitely not the masterpiece 12-year old little me thought it was. It's still very solid though.

Heavy guitar riffs, great vocals with strong drums and bass lines, what's not to like. "Run to the Hills", "Gangland" and "Hallowed By Thy Name" are the best songs imo. Only negative is it can get a bit repetitive

I had fun listening to this album. It’s at the heavy metal point where it’s still energetic and fun but still hardcore enough to not be regular rock. Fav songs: 22 acacia avenue, run to the hills

Excellent heavy metal, but the songs tend to run a little bit long. Favorite song is the closer, "Hallowed Be Thy Name".

Solid hair metal album.

This is the one Iron Maiden album. They may have put out a dozen more records, but this is the apogee of their career, and one of the keystones of 80s metal. (7/10) FT: Run To The Hills, Hallowed Be Thy Name

My previous exposure to this music almost exclusively through that subset of high school friends with whom, not to put too fine a point on it, I used to smoke dope. Embarrassed to realize I never really tracked that they were an English band. The music seems almost akin to baroque classical in the context of all the increasingly blacker shades of metal that have followed on. As often with this kind of thing a lot of the lyrics are weighed down by their own portentous self-importance, still I found myself heartily belting it out along with the choruses on Run for the Hills (with headphones on while washing the dishes, so metal)

Holy yes I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ba wi wi wewww, ba wa wa wewwww. Is it possible to listen to this album and not find another layer to love about it? A taste I am grateful for having taken the time to acquire.

The definitive heavy metal album from the definitive heavy metal band. At least, the definitive New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Semantics aside, this is a band that consistently brings their a-game when it comes to metal. The riffs are heavy, the solo are shreddy, and the lyrics are evil. Iron Maiden delivers this in spades, perhaps a little too well. Album also features one of my favorite riffs of all time in the titular song (the riff in question is right after the second solo). Overall I'd say side B is stronger than side A, but the whole product delivers.

I always liked Iron Maiden but the sound between songs is so similar I never fell in love. 4.4

Run to the hills is a tune, surprisingly enjoyable listen

Classic 80's metal - technical guitars, operatic vocals, fun riffs in minor thirds, and of course the "gallop". Run to the Hills brings back some Rock Band memories.

Classic metal – keen. Great opening track and keeps its energy throughout. Will be listening again.

I have not listened to much metal music, and definately not a whole album before, and I have to say I was surprised by the musicality of it, and lyrical composition. I don’t know if I would put it into regular rotation in my play lists, but I can definately listen to it.

The best Iron Maiden album, so good, so fun, and Run To the Hills have been a favorite of mine for a looong time, so it was really pleasant to hear it again. 4 stars.

Not usually my thing but lots of respect for Maiden.

Classic Iron Maiden. Holy shit the solo on 22 Acacia Ave. HOLY SHIT HALLOWED BE THY NAME

A classic album. Gets off to a slow start but on the whole it's a fantastic look back at a sound that spawned an entire genre. You can hear so many other bands in this one album, it's incredible. Especially big fan of The Prisoner and Hallowed Be Thy Name.

Melhor música deles no final

Oh man! Can't describe how happy I was to see this come up on the list. Definitely a a huge Maiden fan and even though I haven't listened to this in years, it was just as kick-ass and over the top. Yes the lyrics are ridiculous and the whole occult aesthetic is hooky as hell, but Bruce Dickinson's voice is one of the best in the history of music, the twin lead guitars are straight fire and the bass playing is equally iconic. You may not like it, but there's a reason these guys can still sell out stadiums 40 years later.

Solid 4. Just non-stop good metal without it getting overbearing or overstaying its welcome. Multiple classic tracks too. It's the first in awhile that made me at least consider if it gets a 5.

Was a massive Maiden fan in college. Still am.

This is probably the best Iron Maiden album. Great Heavy Metal songs with a band in peak form. Run to the Hills and The Number of the Beast are all-time metal classics.

Really solid metal album

I enjoyed the rhythm it was a super nice pace for a workout. I thought the guitar and the drums rocked that said there was just not enough in the lyrics for me

Reminds me of the Metallica concert with the Cowboys. Never an album I'd seek out, but I love it. Not as dark as expected. This site was already a great decision. So many chord progressions/runs that are iconic; curious where I'll hear them referenced in more recent music.

Got to love iron maiden.

This Rocks. Pun intended.

Deeper album than I thought Best track is title track of course

loved it so much

8/10 Songs kind of sound the same i guess 1. Run to the Hills 2. Children Of The Dammed 3. Hallowed Be Thy Name

The musicianship on this album is actually enough to get past the awesomely cheesy operatic delivery of the vocalist, and over time it even grows on you. This would be a 3 for me except the fact the guitars absolutely shred which bumps it to a 4. Will definitely be coming back to this one.

Was brilliant, vocal work is great, arrangements awesome.

Enjoyed more than I thought I would

A very fun, solid Iron Maiden album. It's no "Powerslave", but it's got some great tracks nonetheless.

Solid album

A great Album. Pretty much a classic, though its not my favourite by Iron Maiden.

Ouuu yeah! Good old heavy metal.

Starts slow but builds up amazingly, kinda impressive.

Levyn kohokohta oli vähän yllättäen The Prisoner.

Still very good album, haven't heard it in years.

Surprised at how much I loved this. If the lyrics were better this would be a 5

Love this album, classic metal music that showed up on Guitar Hero. The entire album was blast to listen to. This was when metal was still just super hard rock so it's much easier to hear what they say and the music itself isn't too abrasive, but if you don't like hearing about the devil and his beasts this album may startle you. My tops for this were Invaders, The Number of the Beast, and Run to the Hills. LOVE this album cover too, all of theirs are great but actually seeing this up close. Satan is still only a puppet to Iron Maiden and that is how it should be.

Another Maiden album. This is album does not have my favorite songs from the album, but it's still great!

Heavy-metal del bueno.

The album that helped start the Satanic Panic of the 1980s. Powerful vocals, masteful baselines, face-melting guitar solos, and such skilled drumming that a single bass drum peddle is all that was needed. Great album for fans of melodic speed metal and Satan worshipers alike.

7/10 Empieza flojo pero termina fuerte

The Number of the Beast and Hallowed Be Thy Name are just great songs

A classic heavy metal album. Favourite track is '22 Acacia Avenue'. 7/10, would like to see more variety in sound or instrumentation.

An wild interesting/educational experience probably not to be repeated. Glad I experienced it

Two glorious essentials of my upbringing: the killer one-two of “The Number of the Beast” and “Run to the Hills”. Closed strongly with “Hallowed Be Thy Name”. YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7/10

No bad songs

Oh baby, a triple! Triple six, that is. I started playing this without looking at the tracklist and thought "I don't know if I've ever really listened to Iron Maiden," but this has two of their most classic hits that I know and love: the title track, and "Run to the Hills." Other great songs on here too, just a great experience front to back. I'm not much of a metal guy, but stuff like this and Metallica are very much in my wheelhouse. Absolutely deserves a spot on an all-time list like this. It doesn't get a perfect score from me today, but I love this album. In time, I could see it getting there, just like The Cure's Disintegration. Favorite tracks: Number of the Beast, Run to the Hills, Children of the Damned, Hallowed Be Thy Name (how great are these song titles??). Album art: Brother, let me tell you. This has got to be in the top 10 or so for best ever. I've always adored the art style deployed by Iron Maiden on their covers, apparently all painted by Derek Riggs, and this is such a fantastic one. The heavy metal ghoul (he's got a NAME and it's EDDIE), the dastardly devil, the puppet strings, the pyres, I love everything about this. 4.5/5

Enjoyed this waaay more than expected. Really fun, catchy, 80s hard rock, loud, thrashy, not too much guitar wanking. Great drums and bass lines. Can hear the influence on hardcore punk and thrash I listened to a lot as a teenager. But 80s hard rock vocals will always sound cheesy to me. Run to the hills is 5* 🤘🤘🤘

Enjoyed this one! Could see myself running to this album

RUNNNNNNNNNNN TOOOOOOO THEEEEEEEEEE HILLLLLLLLSSSSSSS

Not surprisingly, this album also rips!

muito menos farofa do que eu imaginava

Solid classic rock album. I have never listened to it all the way through though and I am glad I did

A classic, and love this album. Rocks all the way through.

Cool album. Amazing bass playing. Not my type of music normally but this album rocks

Very much enjoyed this album. Love the 80's rock. This was softer than the Anthrax album. Included great hits like run for the hills and children of the damned.

Good early metal album the diction is clear some of the songs a bit meh but a few great ones.

Like going on an epic D&D adventure!

Plenty of bangers. Only prevented from being a 5 by the vocals. Just not my thing.

Great album because it's saved by side b

Higher tempo suits them better. Last two tracks drag a bit.

Hard album, love Rock / Metal with grand melodic singing backing it. Standout Tracks: Children of the Damned, The Prisoner, 22 Acacia Avenue, Gangland, Hallowed Be Thy Name

Awesome hard rock album, insane guitar solos and incredible vocal performance. RUN TO THE HIIIIILS

Hot take but this isn't really doing anything special. Like it's a pretty decent heavy metal album with (non) screaming vocals but also nothing sticks out. And for a heavy metal album the most provocative thing about this is the title, sorry

Iron Maiden were just a bit before my time, and with family musical heritage that leans less Black Sabbath and more Doobie Brothers, I had to seek out and decide on Iron Maiden’s music on my own. Its heavy, which is a good thing, and I love a record where the stronger songs are on the second half. The back to back of Run To The Hills and Gangland is especially strong.

Once you understand, that these are drama club dorks, that are really good at playing the instruments, it all starts making sense and let's you enjoy it even more.

Not a metal fan but I appreciate these cats.

This is far from my preferred style, and my previous reviews will clearly support that. I wouldn't say I hated this, and to be fair, I wouldn't even say I disliked it. I think that going into this with an open mind, understanding that I wouldn't like the style and trying to look for things I would enjoy, I think it helped me connect to the music slightly more. I liked the variations in the album; for example, 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' has quite a unique opening compared to the rest of the album. One of my main nitpicks of this style, though, is that the instrumentation seems kind of 'set' throughout. That doesn't apply to only this album... But I think some instrumental changes would be really lovely. There are plenty of heavy tracks I have heard that utilise string orchestras beautifully. I think, in all, it wasn't a bad listen. I probably wouldn't listen to it again, but I'm glad that this is opening my ears to different kinds of music. Favourites: 22 Acacia Avenue Run to the Hills Children of the Damned

Listened to this a lot when i was a kid.

Must admit, I find it quite hard to tell one Maiden record from another. This is hugely redolent of Lucas Brunelle's NYC courier-racing videos from back in the day: awesome but a bit of a novelty. Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills are absolute bangers here.

Back half strong AF. 3.5

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would based on the little early metal I’ve heard. 3.5 stars.

Sounds like glam-metal or metal-glam and hasn‘t aged particularly well.

Not my cup of tea

I liked it, not my style but i could definitely vibe w it awesome one!

ja niet mijn ding sorry

Definitely felt the 80s hair metal Vibes. Always like rock.

Great album, so many bangers. Love me some Maiden

The music on this album is amazing but the cartoony lyrics kind of diminished the overall appeal. Which is a bummer cause the drums and guitars on it are so fantastic.

for whom the bell tolls is an absolute banger but the rest can be left in the past Would I listen again: see above Deserves to be on this list: i guess 3.1

The bass is great. Run to the Hills is superb. The rest of it is middling.

The singles are great. Reminded of being a teenager and the thrill of discovering music that you know your parents can't get.

It wasnt bad, still i don't like this genre

There’s a lot about this that sounds a bit of a parody of itself but I think that’s more because it has been emulated by so much since. When I asked Alice who this was when it was playing she said ‘Tenacious D?’ which said it all really. The vocals and guitar are very much not my style but I can see the proficiency of them. All a bit OTT really.

This album, while good in parts, failed to dissuade me of the notion that this style of music isn't really my cup of tea. It's more the vocals that I don't enjoy, instrumentally it's quite good and I can see why people enjoy it. The first two tracks were probably my favourite, particularly 'Children of the Damned.'

What I wrote for their debut applies equally to this one (although it is a bit stronger): occasionally I’m in the mood for this sort of thing, but just for a song or two. A full album is too much for my liking. The famous songs are the best ones here, the title track, ‘Run to the Hills’, and ‘Hallowed Be Thy Name’. Most others were still pretty decent, though I could have done without ‘22 Acacia Avenue’ (God knows why they decided to write a sequel to the awful ‘Charlotte the Harlot’). Dickinson’s voice grates after a while too.

Pensé que iba a odiar y no, ta parchado. The number of the beast es severa cancionsota.

not my cup of tea but I liked it

Not bad, probably the best metal album I've gotten so far. The second half is way more consistent than the first, but that wasn't bad either. Highlights-The Prisoner, The Number Of The Beast, and Run To The Hills.

Iron Maiden – the number of the beast ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am in no way a metal fan. Turned out it was pretty good- a mix of the absolutely terrible (22 Acacia Avenue), and brilliant (run to the hills and Hallowed be thy Name). I probably won’t be back but largely a fun 40 minutes

If you’re going to like heavy metal rock, this will do nicely. It’s all about the voice.

Just is iron maiden is crazy but is no my type

Kill 'em all

Fun to go through this one but I felt that besides “The Number of the Beast” and “Hallowed be thy Name” I wasn’t drawn to any of the other tracks. Anyways, the Iron Maiden pinball game is fun go check it out.

Not really my favorite genre, but I appreciate the killer leads and how tight the band is. Lyrically is where it goes south, but the delivery is top heavy metal for sure.

It's okay. Not my thing at all but not horrible 3/5

I know that it's a classic and I really liked the riffs but it didn't touch me deeply. didn't reach my soul lol :)

Never really exposed my self to Iron Maiden before, and expected an audio assault to my senses, only to be surprised by how poetic and Ballard driven this is.

Not maiden's greatest imo but latter half of this album is iconic

I don't mind some of the music but I can't stand Bruce Dickinson's voice

Not my cup of tea, amazing guitar

Never have been a big Iron Maiden fan, even though there are a couple good songs on this album.

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Bit corny and song names are dramatic, like.

The wrong side of the goblin and ghoul Maiden style which turns me off. Got miles better albums, this feels like it was an obligation for 1001 albums. PILLAGING! The Prisoner, Total Eclipse and Hallowed be thy Name are good though 3.5

Nunca escoitara este álbum enteiro, gustoume Hallowed be thy name.

May 26th, 2026 Number of the beast, Run to the Hills

Vinyl - 3.7

I know it’s importance so I listened as impartially as I could. As best I can muster, it wasn’t as awful as I would have thought. I can see the genesis of all things I hate, and all parodies I snicker at, comes from. I will give a point because it is an album I should have heard before death. Thankful I knew not to play it backward and hasten the event.

It's very theatrical which I like, but it seems to take itself too seriously.

Pretty great. Second wave British metal isn’t as good as the first but still pretty neat

Waaahgggg

Album 203. The Number Of The Beast (https://open.spotify.com/album/6q5MEna6Fg46powSoeZJe3?si=XLJIYhQhQ3y80NeoUzhIbQ) — Iron Maiden (1982) Just a heavy metal album. Not bad, not great 3/5 No liked songs

Was the cover made with glue and magazine cutouts?

6/10 Run to the hills

Never listened to them before. Good stuff.

A lot of power, a lot of pizazz, but kind of a comic book intensity that’s hard for me to take seriously.

mental rock; classic and old school

I guess I’m just not a metal head. I can tell these guys are wildly talented but it just doesn’t resonate with me at all.

The guitar solos are great!

Reconfirms I don't love screamed lyrics

Well. While it’s absolutely not my kind of music, it was a nice listening. Not too long, not too aggressive, yet very energetically charged and kinda charming with its youthful-rebellious tone. Can’t say I liked it a lot, but I didn’t hate it either and I genuinely see how influential this album was for many musicians. Also, I love the fact that Iron Maiden has very consistent visual style. I don’t think I like it a lot, but the fact alone brings me a lot of joy.

The respect we all should have for iron maiden was clearly created in this album. Although it's not my favourite genre of album, the influence this has clearly has on the world's is in matched

Well shit, a metal album I didn’t hate. It is possible! I really think it’s the vocals for me. I can’t do the growl yelling, and this is more 80s hair band vocals.

Cool vibes

Notable Textzeile: Cold as steel, the darkness waits Its hour will come A cry of fear from our children, worshipping the sun Ich finde das alles irgendwie sehr brav.

not for me but yeah it's pretty good stuff

Well well well…if it isn’t my old basement companion. Working out to this (via my abs last night) brought back the mems- specifically Run for Your Life. The others were mostly just a generally nostalgic vibe. Anyway, it’s lovely and melodramatic and a bit fantastical, like gothic metal. Thumbs up!

listening

Pretty good. Bashed it out over coffee and set the mood for my day

I was never a big fan of iron maiden. However, I do like some other songs. You have to admire the guitar playing.

7,50/10 Mas movido y divertido, no me encanta pero bastante bien, te despierta y levanta, no aburre

Pretty good biking music

Almost a 4. Prisoner reminded me of Le Mis. lol is that what it’s from?

There's a couple of bangers on here, run to the hills is great. The skills of the musicians is clear. But it's all a little bit silly really isn't it

Fav song: 22 Acacia Avenue

It’s better than the iron maiden album I was assigned YESTERDAY, but still not my thing. I think if I hadn’t had two in a row I would give this 3 stars. It feels like the definitive iron maiden album.

Ok, I get it. I can see why this is on the list. I can even see why people who love this band and get tattoos of them. It’s just not for me. At all. 3 stars for being culturally significant and for being glad I listened to it.

I like the sound of this album but I think overall it doesn't really grip me. Some of the lyrics are cheesy in a way that is fun. I think the album is let down by some songs (like "Invaders). The songs do sound fun to play but just not my thing

01) Invaders - 6,5 02) Children of the Damned - 7,0 03) The Prisoner - 6,5 04) 22 Acacia Avenue - 6,5 05) The Number of the Beast - 9,5 06) Run to the Hills - 9,5 07) Gangland - 6,5 08) Total Eclipse - 7,0 09) Hallowed Be Thy Name - 8,0 TOTAL: 7,44 (74/100) Current ranking: 379/895 I'm not a fan of the genre, but this wasn't as bad as I expected.

A great album with suprisingly melodic singing for a metal album, satisfying riffs and a well curated album overall

Remember when this was the most outrageous, heretical, downright sacrilegious thing ever put on tape? It's terrifying! Burn your records, smash your tapes! In reality, this album is so cute! It's adorable! The song about 'Charlotte the Harlot' is no more egregious than the demon-possessed farm animals in Charlotte's Web. I understand that Iron Maiden and bands like them were massively influential. It was groundbreaking at the time. But unfortunately for them, I find the metal of the future more exciting, more bizarre, more prone to causing actual offense. And that's what I find interesting. There's nothing wrong with what's going on in The Number of the Beast. But it obviously got outclassed pretty damn quick. Now it's just a quick little jolt of classic metal. It's cute.

Great album to lift weights to

Technically very proficient. Not for me.

Liked it, probably would not listen to again.

Growing up in the 80s, I vividly remember the satanism panic that had swept much of the country. There was an abandoned house in our neighborhood that all of us kids were convinced was being used by devil worshippers for their crazy rituals. Thanks goodness the country got through that weird phase (at least most of us) I say this because even though my family wasn't super zealous about things like this, an album like 'The Number of the Beast" would have been pretty taboo back then. Though I'd heard of Iron Maiden, before today I never heard Iron Maiden. And all in all, I really liked this. I expected to hear heavy songs all in minor keys... and I got pretty much that, though this didn't sound as dated as 80s metal can often be. My favorite track is definitely the final Hallowed be Thy name. Epic in scope, it seems to be about a prisoner grappling with his fate as he faces execution. This wouldn't be something I'd listen to regularly, but when I'm in the mood for something heavier, this will do quite nicely.

Fabulous

7/10. Not a big Maiden fan but this might be my favorite of there’s.

This might be one really long continuous song.

Not my cup of tea in terms of genre but still a pretty good album, i enjoyed it a lot while working out!

Whilst compared to the rollicking riffs of their heroes Deep Purple a lot of this can appear one-dimensional, it feels next level against many of their peers. Megadeth have been my favourite of the genre so far, and this is similar - technically great but soulless solos, but with moments of superior quality. Some Spinal Tappery a given, there are some bangers here in the singles and 'Children of the Damned' and the semi-epic closer 'Hallowed Be They Name'. I'd group them with Megadeth for not being my cuppa tea, but a cut above the Slayers of this world, taking hard-rock to the stadiums and laying the path for GnR. What Maiden also has in their favour is a certain restraint that allows this album to come in at 40minutes. It throws up more melodic variety than contemporary heavy-metallers - although the peak of this genre is the trough of another, so let's keep it in perspective shall we. Pushing a four.

ganz gut dad rock aber auch einseitig...

Sort of silly fun, but pretty formulaic and vocals more impressive than enjoyable to me, so overall got tiresome.

Great at what they do and I appreciate it. But ends up being a bit too silly for me.

It’s okay. Not the biggest fan.

Way different than I thought it was going to be and I liked it!
