Reviews (page 8 of 14)

This album is without a doubt iconic. The vocals really make this album special and each song has its own individuality that makes it stand out whilst also tying in nicely with the rest of the songs on the album. I thought that the songs at the end were not quite as strong, but nevertheless, I give it a 9/10

A great album by abba. This album has it all as far as pop records go. This is my wife’s favorite band so I’m sure she’d give this a 5. As much as I enjoy dancing queen I can’t let one song control the whole review. Luckily the production on this album is superb. The instrumentals vary and sound great. There are several songs on this that have replay value. 7.8/10

Mostly iconic songs, a couple uninteresting

Great!

PREFS : When I Kissed the Teacher, Dancing Queen, My Love, My Life, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Money, Money, Money, That's Me, Tiger MOINS PREF : Why Did It Have To Be Me?

Another classic

I don’t love ABBA, and I could go the rest of my life and never hear Dancing Queen again. I have to admit, though, that Bjorn can write a song. Not necessarily a song that I like, but an objective dinger nonetheless.

Fernando was number one in Australia for 14 weeks! Money, Money, Money and Dancing Queen spent a combined 14 weeks at the top. I was one of those sick of ABBA by then. So it's good to finally listen to the whole album finally. What's not to like: the blending of those two voices with Benny and Bjorn's brilliant arrangements were at their peak here. I wonder why Tiger wasn't a single, but they were spoiled for choice. A couple of fillers prevents it getting 5.

Great 70s pop

Mama Mia II soundtrack for the most part. Basically greatest hits part 2. Great pop.

Idk what was happening at schools in Sweden in the 70s but this feels inappropriate. Lots of all time favorites on here, but a few duds. Ah well, at least it's not another scottish post punk band from the 80s!

Hittikimara. Tapasin vihata kyseistä bändiä, mutta pakko on pitkin hampain myöntää että oman aikansa toimivaa poppista. 4/5

mmm ABBA mój ulubiony rodzaj rymów <3

Catchy and killer. Listened on the plane from Md to NY

Mama Mia, it's fun!

The thing i noted most is how different this is than many other "hit" albums. Most other popular albums actually sounds strange... the hits stand out as so much better than everything around it, you wonder if they really are the same band. This album is really consistent with melodies and energy, and the not-hit songs are only just the slightest bit off from being hits of their own. Pretty banger.

Not my cup of tea but quite good

Conozco algunas canciones -+10 DE 10

All the bops. I don’t even really care for ABBA…but damn. This is ridiculously catchy. Every song is so sugary sweet. On the whole I didn’t feel like skipping…which is really a great thing because I’m impatient honestly.

Dancing Queen, Dum Dum Diddle, Knowing Me, Knowing You, That’s Me, Tiger, Fernando and Happy Hawaii. Catchy and great vocals. Never listened to anything by ABBA but will now. 9/10

ABBA is always fantastic. Some songs are super hits while others are so so, but I enjoyed this overall. I have a list of favorite Swedish bands, and ABBA is #1.

all songs are an actual bop. im a huge musical fan so no surpise i love this album already. mamma mia unlocked my love for abba. most amazing of albums.

I gotta say - I don't understand the vitriol. Best track: Arrival

listened to with with blon bl-03 (on left channel) and kz zx pro x (on right) theres is no good reason for this my dogs just decided to eat one of each

Banger, como dicen los gringos.

Great album!

If Abba was already a hit sensation at this time, it would be this album that cemented them in gold as one of the greatest euro-pop and euro-disco acts of all time. This album has some of the group's best and most well known songs, not the least of which is Dancing Queen. These are songs that have stood for decades and are still very well recognized. This is just a really fun album that shows off the band's dynamics and harmonies. I don't know what to say about this album or group that hasn't already been said, but they make music such an unabashed joy.

Almost 5

You can't help but love this album, super catchy with several classics. 4.5/5

ABBA is considered a "gay anthem" and tbh it's grown on me in recent years. Overall this album was solid with some highs and lows

A solid album with several songs that leave you tapping your foot by the end. Easy to see the many influences it left on pop music going forward

My favorite album cover that shows every person in the band looking like they think the photo concept is the dumbest thing they've ever heard. When they are good, they are very, very good. Other times they are still pretty damn good.

ABBA are mostly known for their singles and the stellar songwriting, production, and arrangements that was displayed in them... Yet if there is only *one* album from the Swedish band you should own, this would be the one--along with the pitch perfect *Gold* compilation, that goes without saying. For starters, *Arrival*'s got three hits that you can also find in said compilation (*four* in its CD edition or Australian/New Zealand version: "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Dancing Queen", "Money, Money, Money" and "Fernando"). That's already an amount of hits most bands would only dream of producing for one LP. But now you need to add the other stellar cuts in it, which actually sound as good as the more famous tunes from the band--cuts such as the opener "When I Kissed The Teacher", or "Dum Dum Diddle" or the exhilarated and exhilarating "Tiger". And the instrumental title track closing the original proceedings is a short yet quite emotional apex for the whole thing. There are a couple of fillers here and there, but with eight or nine great tracks out of eleven, what you have here is still a very good album. Benny and Björn had so many great melodies in them, and Agnetha and Anni-Frid such powerful voices--it doesn't really matter if the lyrics are a little cheesy sometimes: as every fan of good pop music knows, such lyrics are part of their timeless charm. My overall feeling it that you just gotta pay ABBA at least *one* tribute in a list such as this one. And *Arrival* is the best candidate for this. Oh, speaking of ABBA albums: *The Visitors* is an interesting experiment in more mature songs, by the way, even though its melodic contents might not be striking enough for it to be included here. But I guess that's a story for another time, kiddies... Number of albums left to review: 629 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 183 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 85 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 110

Sure one of the best albums from ABBA

Crazy complexity for such cheesy songs

There's a small amount of national pride when this album appeared as the album for the day. ABBA sure is a song writing hit machine and that's something that Björn and Benny continued after ABBA. ABBA is pop/disco and the album Arrival has hits like Dancing Queen and Money, Money, Money. It's hard to not like ABBA. It's well written and catchy. They're definitely not my favorite band but their success is understandable. The album Arrival is no exception.

I mean it's ABBA

Insane pop album, 8.5/10

Nice, I'm happy to get an ABBA album with some classics! "Dancing Queen" is overplayed at white weddings the world over, but it's still a good song. My ears are tuned more to "Fernando," thanks to Malcom in the Middle, and tracks like "Money, Money, Money" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You" have made the rounds for decades. I'm not necessarily a fan of ABBA, but I can't deny how solid this one is. Great stuff. Favorite tracks: Fernando, Knowing Me Knowing You, Dancing Queen, Money Money Money, My Love My Life. Album art: The four of them crammed into a little helicopter? Is that thing even gonna make it off the ground? Looks like a bizarre GTA cult. 4/5

Excellent album of course with mega-classic songs, but not in the same league as "Visitors", due to a bit too much filler. Version reviewed = original version without Fernando (5* song) and Happy Hawaii (1* song). It does not make sense at all to add these two songs if you finish the album with "Arrival".

//////////////

Great! Classic after classic. My first time listening to an ABBA album straight through and I enjoyed it very much.

I've always known about ABBA but never bothered to listen to a full album of theirs. I was honestly not expecting to have as much fun with it as I did! Although it has its share of misses and tracks that get repetitive, it's definitely a hit all around. Some of the slower tracks like "Knowing Me, Knowing You" are where they shine best, for me.

While this isn't my favorite Abba album, this one has some certified bangers. Knowing Me, Knowing You, Money, Money, Money, Dancing Queen, Fernando are all amazing songs. The instrumentation is tight as usual, and the vocals are strong (as usual). Highlights: 2, 4, 5, 6, 11, and 12.

Great album, has so many hits on it. My favourite is Fernando.

I think they are very talented and "Dancing Queen" and a few other songs are quite good as well. I never wanna listen to any of this on my own though, it's just been so overplayed. However, objectively it's a 4 from me.

8/10. I like ABBA, but listening to a whole album of them at once is a bit much to ask, and their songs that aren't hits aren't swell. Still, this album has a good number of familiar songs, and I found I rather liked Tiger as well, and could probably like Happy Hawaii okay if they didn't pronounce Hawai'i "Hawai"

It has just enough really good tracks to not overstay its welcome. I’ll still always contest that when people say “I hate disco” they’re talking about this white person “””disco””” and not the original genre. Or they’re just racist. 8/10

This is TOUGH because normally it would be an instant five but I was distracted also frankly I love Voulez-Vous and Super Trouper so MUCH that this has to get only four stars. I am sorry. Loved all the classics, and my favorite previously unknown was Tiger.

Very good

Great to listen to the whole album and get to know not only the hits, but also more underrated songs. Decent pop songwriting. The bass on \"Happy Hawaii\" was a nice surprise.

This was fun

Excellently produced, interesting arrangements, a bit hokey at times musically and lyrically, but still worth a damn listen. Favorites: Knowing Me, Knowing You and Fernando.

Despite being Scandinavian and having heard the song a thousand times, Dancing Queen is a megabanger. The rest of the songs are bangers

I owned this on vinyl growing up. Not sure where it went.

As much as people hated ABBA at the end of the disco era, this is a fine album with some catchy tunes.

Second listen. I like ABBA a lot, but this is not my favorite album of theirs. If their self-titled album is on here I might give it a 5, but this is just a 4. A lot of the songs are really cheesy for some reason. Also, ABBA songs get worn out for me very easily, which is probably a factor. The 4 is mostly for my two favorites on this one, “Money, Money, Money” and “Fernando”. (I’ve gotten a little tired of those two as well.)

Being a little kid in the late 70s in Australia, you just couldn't avoid hearing this album. It is part of my psyche. You either love or you hate it but you can avoid it.

It’s Abba. It’s catchy and toe tappy and what’s not to love?

who is fernando?

Disco girl, coming through, that girl is you, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh

Definitely an album where the sum is less than its parts. It drags a bit over the 40 minutes but there are high points that make up for it. Pretty sure everyone has heard Dancing Queen before whether its through film & tv, social media or drunken karaoke. Money, Money, Money; and Fernando were the other big hits I knew previously from the Mamma Mia movie and car journeys as a kid. Two out of the big three are great songs (never liked Money much) and it was good revisiting them outside of those contexts. For the unknown, I really liked Knowing Me, Knowing You. A big hit of theirs which I've never listened to before, it caught me by surprise of how good it is. There were a few other tracks that stood out, including When I Kissed the Teacher, Dum Dum Diddle, and Why Did It Have to Be Me?. The rest were servicable but meh.

Great ABBA album.

Welp turns out I like ABBA? Never knew! Enjoyed almost every song. Like disco pop with splashes of orchestra. Great harmonies. Complex but concise.

Objectively probably a 3, but nostalgia hits like a mfer

Reconec que em costa diferenciar els discos d'Abba més enllà dels seus singles d'èxit. 'Arrival' conté ni més ni menys que la joia de la corona, 'Dancing Queen'. També 'Knowing Me Knowing You' i 'Money Money Money'. Com a album track destacat, 'When I Kissed the Teacher' sona genial

It's ABBA, I don't need to write four paragraphs about ABBA because people are born into this world with the innate knowledge of this band and the lyrics of at least 3 of their songs. Huge hits ("Dancing Queen" and "Money Money Money" of course), the less known songs are good as well, even listened to the two bonus tracks ("Fernando" is another classic, "Happy Hawaii" is fine I guess). Gotta be a 4/5, and not just because my own mother and girl friend would kill me for giving this anything lower, but also because it's really damn good music. Fourth paragraph.

Pop. Varios megahits. Un 4.

I'm not the biggest fan of ABBA, but this is a pretty damn good album. "Dancing Queen" of course deserves the legacy it has earned. My other favorite songs are "Arrival" and "Fernando"

Top quality stuff

Hard not to love Abba. The formula for perfect melodies is amazing. Lyrically it can be juvenile in places but the music always makes up for it.

You got some big disco hits here! This album keeps the party going. It’s ABBA being ABBA as expected and I appreciate that. Dancing Queen alone is a 5 star song - but I’d still rather listen to a greatest hits compilation over their actual studio albums. I just want all the hits, that’s all I need from them.

When I Kissed The Teacher, Dancing Queen, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Money, Money, Money - Classics, storytelling is great, great tunes Classic pop rock album, great tunes, incredible instrumentals paired with mellow storytelling and beautiful vocals

This is a one stop shop album for like all the disco. 4/5

Fun throwback

Upbeat, joyful and full of classics

Album with plenty of classic tracks which are absolutely fantastic. However the album as a whole isn't perfect and there's a few skippable tracks.

华丽的美国流行曲,奇特的编曲,富有寓意的歌词。Money money money ! ! !

Some good songs but generally not my vibe.

ABBA! I mean obviously this is a classic. I've never listened to a full album of theirs though, so this should be a blast I like Knowing Me, Knowing You - didn't know this one before Why Did It Have To Be Me is interesting

I mean I love ABBA in a big way, but perhaps at the right time. I didn't enjoy this as much as I expected to, but perhaps that was to do with my mood and the times I was trying to fit in listening to it! But I deeply respect ABBA and some of their more 'party' songs are just so fun. Some more slow ones on here I wasn't so bothered by. Going to give a 4 for good measure

Abba is one of the few bands whose music is impossible to not like, despite mamma Mia’s best efforts. Every song makes you want to jam out and each has a unique sound. Very cool to hear dancing Queen organically and fully enjoyed my first full abba album, Fernando was also great

Got this one on vinyl. "Dancing Queen" is maybe one of the top pop songs of all time. Insane how it hasn't aged at all in 50 years. I enjoy Abba. I think people lump them into the disco subgenre but really they are absolute pop and great at it.

Hella bangers, fun album

I almost want to dislike it, but it's good. Almost every song is catchy and varied enough to keep the album interesting.

can sing along with plenty of the tunes and Madonna loves them, so what am I to judge

Very interesting to hear what accompanied Dancing Queen and Fernando. Not a huge fan of the style but I understand why people like it and why those hits are still played to this day.

Haven’t listened since the 80s but there are some great tracks.

Really enjoyed this, mainly Dancing Queen, Money, Tiger, Fernando. Clearly, the hits are the stand-outs, but I would say most of the album is very danceable!

Good Lawd. First ABBA Album on the list ticked off for me. ABBA basically sound-tracked a LOT of weddings and events growing up for me and this album doesn't disappoint. How can you go past hits like "Dancing Queen" (absolute all time - fight me!), "Money, Money, Money", "Knowing Me, Knowing You" and "Fernando". However there are definitely some lulls ("Arrival") and problems ("When I Kissed The Teacher"). In spite of this, it's really hard to go past those four hits, which are embedded in our (my) cultural history. Best: Dancing Queen; Money, Money, Money; Knowing Me, Knowing You; Fernando Worst: Arrival

Some classic ABBA on this album!

A lot of highs but a few mediocre songs

My appreciation for ABBA has grown a lot over the last few years, to the point now where I have to say - this is absolutely at least a 4 star album that I will put on again.

Oh jeez. The teacher in me feels compelled to explicitly state that I do NOT approve of the very first track. Not even going to say the title. Let's just move on... You're not beating "Dancing Queen." Even if there was no other song on this album, that at least gets you two stars right there. Throw in "Fernando" and it's only going up. I know this band and their music has been called "infectious" a million times over by now, but it's really the most apt word you can go with for when they're on their mark. Just pure listenable undiluted happiness. But yeah - "Dum Dum Diddle" and that song about being a tiger were certainly far wide of the ABBA bull's eye, imo. Nobody's perfect.

Estilo inconfundible con canciones muy pegadizas, buenas voces, estribillos y con predisposición a bailar.

Well, with enough distance from wedding music, I could listen to ABBA with an open mind - and this album delivers wonderfully sublime pop tunes - Fernando, Dancing Queen - albeit both overplayed are masterpieces - Money, Money, Money is also a good contender. The rest of the tracks pale in comparison to the strong showing of the hits, but it's a good album nonetheless - sometimes a bit too Swedish twee to enjoy on a regular basis, but objectively a true pop opus.

i love abba i love their music i love their vibe and their songs. 8/10. there isn’t a lot of negative stuff i can think of other than sometimes their stuff isn’t as creative as i feel it could be but that’s a reach.

DANCING QUEEN YOUNG AND SWEET ONLY SEVENTEEM. classic, lots of peppy and catchy stuff but loved it nevertheless love u fernando.

I liked it

Fun album with some classics. Fills me with feelings of nostalgia, remembering back to when my mom used to listen to her "Best of ABBA" cassette back and forth.

The hits on here are unreal. One or two MFers which bring it down a bit for me, but only slightly.

Nice, well crafted pop. I'm probably like a lot of other people, in that I'd only heard Abba singles and their greatest hits songs. Arrivals has a decent chunk of their best singles, but the non singles songs stand up well too, though they suffer from feeling like they are just not as good versions of the bigger songs. The good songs carry the album though.

Very fun

4/5. Objectively pretty good, but I can only endure so much 🙏

It is only through this generator that I get to listen to an ABBA album in full. So to hear the massive singles surrounding by songs not previously heard was odd. It will take a few listens for those other songs to not be swamped by the familiar ones. Quality song structure, harmonies and production as expected.

I didn't want to like this, I wanted to be able to say it's terrible. Can't help but enjoy it though, even the atrociously worded 'Dum dum Diddle'. Silly, lovely Swedes.

ABBA is Pop Perfection.

This is like a pop masterpiece from outer space to U.S. ears. Devoid of North American blues influence, this album contains a pervasive, wistful melancholy under its stage-ready Broadway-style bops. At the time of its release it was derided by critics, but in hindsight, ABBA is a behemoth of pop influence. The production here is pristine and leaps from your speakers. It sounds good on everything, no crazy hifi necessary.

pangalbum! även om det är lite för mainstream kanske.

The very famous 4 hit songs are the standouts Their pristine vocals define the group's sound. Only one duff track.

Genre: Europop 4/5 ABBA is like the 70s and Swedish Mamas and the Papas. Sunshine europop shot directly into your veins, with harmonies that soar to the skies, and joyful tunes as far as the ear can hear. Arrival is their best effort, compiling a more-than-decent run of songs that showcase the best of what ABBA can do, and its good vibes and sweet pop stylings are all one really needs. Dancing Queen, the obvious highlight and one of the biggest songs ever, is a real delight, but it doesn't overshadow its album companions. Knowing Me, Knowing You is great, as well as Money, Money, Money, two great pop songs that were both also successful singles in their own right. This is a happy album that will easily brighten your day, whether you'd like it or not.

Le B. A. BA de la pop.

que des tubes t'as juste envie de chantonner au bureau et d'embêter tes collègues ^^ :p

Good dance vibes.

I am a huge ABBA fan, but I even I will concede that the hits here - “Dancing Queen,” “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” “Money, Money, Money,” and “Fernando” (on some International editions) - are the biggest hitters. However, it would be foolhardy to overlook Arrival’s album cuts. Opener “When I Kissed the Teacher” is as potent a pop song as the hits. For all their kitsch-iness, “Tiger” and “Why Did It Have to Be Me?” charm. And the title track and closer might be the most beautiful piece of music the group ever did - an ode to Swedish folk music, a wash of keys, strings, and vocal harmonies. 4.0

This had way more abba hits on it than I expected.

Deserves to be on the list for Dancing Queen alone. Everything else is just gravy, including the other two hits (Knowing Me, Knowing You and Fernando, both of them good but pale to the magic of Dancing Queen). But Good God, how perfect of a pop song is Dancing Queen? That one song is going to outlast many of the albums on this list. It's the one reason why ABBA will probably tour as holograms for decades to come.

4, quite good

Love a bit of Abba

Abba dabba doo!!! Haha

Un classique disco 4

Solid album - standout tracks were Dancing Queen and Knowing Me, Knowing You (aha)

I've listened to ABBA through my whole life, but to hear a full album and to be this concise and a great pop listening after 45 years it's amazing, these are songs that'll never die (even though i have to consider some of this songs not to be that great like the first track but it's funny as hell) Fav tracks: Dancing Queen, My Love, My Life, Knowing me, Knowing you, Arrival, Fernando,

ABBA is always a good time. Not one I can binge, but fun every now and again.

Can’t go wrong with ABBA!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W3Vx-d2VEI

Interesting, I understood they didn't completely know English.

While I can rock to ABBA at times this was driving me nuts yesterday, though my context (wrapping up the year at work) was probably more to blame. I acknowledge this is Core Pop.

coolll 4

My secret pleasure!

The hits on this album are absolute 5 star material, but there were a few duds. I think if you removed 2 or 3 songs the album would be 5 stars, but I can't give 5 stars to an album with "Dum Dum Diddle" on it.

Brilliant shiny pop and songwriting at its finest. Becomes heaven-sent with the inclusion of Fernando on later versions. No surprise it's their bestselling LP not called Gold. Instrumental title track that closes original LP is a bit boring, so a high 4 out of 5 for one of my favourite "pop" bands.

Top notch pop from the ABBA-bots. Can't say I actually enjoyed it but I did very much appreciate it, like a nicely stacked shelf of tins or a well presented window display. Well done everybody.

Already had this on vinyl and ought to listen more often. Solid sentimental pop production. Despite a couple of awkward clunkers (kissed the teacher) it's amazing.

ABBAAAAAAAA the presence of Dancing Queen garners 3 stars, and the highly underrated title track gives it a 4th star. Was a delightful grocery shopping listen. I was dancing in the aisles the whole time.

Disco. Aceptable

Reminds me of my Mama!

This is undeniably ABBA’s best album period, ABBA at the absolute pinnacle of their career. The arrangements are delightful. The production is flawless. Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad are in perfect voice. If I had to pick an album to stick in a time capsule and represent 70s pop, this might be it. Which would be a lie ultimately, considering how much better this music is than much of the dreck of the era. There are two absolutely perfect pop songs on this album. The balance of the album is a nice assortment of slightly lesser pop songs that are still great fun to listen to. “Dancing Queen” is a marvel of a song, probably the best song the band ever made. Except for maybe "Fernando," my goodness. These are two of the prettiest, catchiest songs I have ever heard, and they are on the same album. They are two sides of the same coin as pop songs go, with “Fernando” pulling at your heart strings while “Dancing Queen” is just a bubbly, sparkling ode to joy. I like the reviewer who said you just have to let yourself go when you listen to ABBA. I can’t think of a better way to describe the experience of listening to them. For some reason ABBA is treated as some sort of guilty pleasure that you have to justify listening to. I think it’s time we let that notion go and appreciate the fact that crafting quality pop music is difficult. ABBA truly makes it look effortless. Fave Songs: Dancing Queen; Fernando; Knowing Me, Knowing You; That's Me, Money, Money, Money

Very good. Favorite tracks are Dancing Queen and Tiger

The cream of the crop

Some real bangers in this one. Good listen for sure

It was nice. I had heard parts of this in the past, but not the whole thing

Good songs great, bad songs very dated

There’s a reason this band is as popular as they are. Every track has clean production and catchy lyrics, and a catchier hook. Every. Track. And a lot of people won’t admit this, but the songwriting is fantastic.

The kings and queens of 70s euro part. They knew their way around a melody that’s for sure.

Not trendy to listen to ABBA when they first appeared, particularly as my parents liked them. But the masterful songwriting, performances and production can't be denied. Stuffed with what turned out to be timeless hits. Who'd a'thought it?

it's fuckin abba bro

Dancing Queen <3

Старики мочат

So amazingly feel good

It is such good head bobbing stuff. Full of bops, especially the singles. A few duller tracks hold it back (as well as my own pickiness with pop music), but this is a very very fun listen, if anything.

This songs are so well crafted that it's easy to see why they were so popular. ABBA knew how to right a compelling middle 8 as well. Modern pop music is incredibly indebted to ABBA. The instrumentation is lush and slick, and everything about the production is careful and intentional. Though this is not my favorite style of music, I can appreciate just how well done it is. Very enjoyable.

Jams left and right.

This would be a 5 if I didn't know that ABBA ever put out any music before or since. Or if this sounded like these songs could only be together on this album and not on, say, their next one or their previous one. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent album and this has so many great songs! But let's be honest, an ABBA greatest hits collection is a 5 star an everything else must be lower

ABBA is something else. I mean there's hit after hit on here, but I'm not pulling this off the shelf and adding it to my record collection.

Great songs

3.5/5 Some bad songs, mostly good

FERNANDOOOOOO

Decent

Bouncy pop. Pretty good. Some catchy tracks but nothing that made we say "whoa"

i like pop

You can never go wrong with some ABBA. Some of the songs here clearly aren't on any best-ofs for a reason - When I Kissed The Teacher aged very poorly - but overall it's a fun listen.

Bright, fun, quintessential Abba.

I fucking LOVE ABBA! So happy to listen this

Not a single bad song throughout the album which was a quite blast listening through. It also has bangers like dancing queen which have you dancing all around, very good

good 70's disco album. I had heard several of the songs before.

An almost perfect collection of scandi-pop tunes by some truly gifted song writers. Love it!

IM the dancing queen

YAS QUEEN

Saved Prior: Dancing Queen; Money, Money, Money Off Rip: My Love, My Life; Dum Dum Diddle; That's Me; Tiger Cutting Edge: Knowing Me, Knowing You Overall Notes: I truly do not understand why people hate ABBA. You have to be so angry at people being happy. The lyrical depth of this album caught me off guard, was expecting vapid songs and these songs were not that. That's Me might be my favorite ABBA song by a country mile. ABBA know who they are and they do it so damn well. Went into this thinking ABBA were the quintessential Greatest Hits over Albums band, but this worked as an album very well. 4.5 to a 4 because it was just about what I expected and didn't really surprise me musically, but that doesn't mean this album didn't go crazy.

After 3 albums that I didn’t love, I was happy to release my inner dancing queen. I’m pretty sure ABBA are white supremacists, which I obviously don’t love, but they knew how to lay down a funky beat and a catchy lyric.

very good album, not quite a 5 star but i would give it a 4.5 star if i could. this is because the songs are very similar and i have to be in a good mood to listen to them but very good songs and, of course, iconic

some classics on here, but not a huge huge fan of abba overall. Interesting to see early pop

a great album!

I liked a song or two from there

I would have given it a 3, but it's a 4 for Emily

Really Enjoyed this album Dum Dum Diddle - Slaps

Better than the last ABBAlbum

Certified bops

ABBA ne

An incredible pop record. The songwriting, the arrangements, the musicianship, the production - all fantastic. Perhaps not something I would choose to listen to regularly, but I still think this is probably one of the greatest pop records of all time.

love it.

Fængende pop, 70’er, kærlighed, simpelt

I see why people know the big abba songs and not much else

Since it was abba again I had a lotta expectations. Can't say I didn't enjoy it but yeah it was medicore. I liked dancing queen, money, and especially the last song was cool since it literally had sounds of waves washing up on beaches of Hawaii. This album has a strong opening which was awkward to me as it was about a teacher kissing a student or vice versa idk. But hey it was a nice experience but got boring in the last 2 songs tho. Maybe I'll grow into it i guess

A whole album gets a bit too much, but you get why they hit like comets back in the day.

This was fun in a campy, goofy kind of way. Dancing Queen was stuck in my head from the moment I saw this album come up. They can definitely write a catchy tune. It’s dated but it was a fun listen after a shitty Monday.

Throughly enjoyed the listen. Fun 70s pop. Nothing deep, just fun goofy songs.

Treble heavy. Good melodies, chord progressions. Plastic sound. Could've benefitted from more bass. "I Kissed The Teacher" and "Arrival" the standout tracks. 3/5.

Abba-ish album with big hits!!! But beneath the hits the rest is quite average!!

Abba are something else. They sound like simple pop but the music is very intricate. Always a bit of fun.

When I Kissed the Teacher - 5/10, good upbeat vibes, didn’t fw the concept too much, song didn’t stick Dancing Queen - 8/10, YOU CAN DANCEEE YOU CAN JIVEEE. Makes me feel like I’m watching a house x wilson edit

A little rocky start with the "Teacher" song to start, but "Dancing Queen" (17?) steadied the ship.

Singles are the obvious best tunes, outside of My Love, My Life, none of the album tracks really come close to matching it. Instrumental closer is very different ABBA song. Dancing Queen remains of the greatest pop songs all all time, When I Kissed The Teacher though, WTF, of it's time lyrically! 6/10

Just pure pop nostalgia for me - there's really nothing to say about ABBA that everyone doesn't already know. I added four songs to my music library: "Dancing Queen," "Knowing Me, Knowing You," "Money, Money, Money," and "Fernando." As an album though, it's kind of weak. Even though I like those songs, the other ones hold no nostalgia for me and no new appreciation either, so even with four songs added, it's a ⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me.

ABBA great as always, such timeless songs. This album has two great hits "Dancing Queen" and "Money, Money, Money" but also some hidden nice catchysongs and some one or two ballads that despite not being my favorite tunes added to the depth of the album.

Very decent pop album. Def has a vibe to it. The teacher song is funny

A couple of missteps, such as "Why did it have to be me?" (uh, you're not Fats Domino) and "Happy Hawaii" (uh, you're not the Beach Boys!) this is pretty solid... incredible pop writing in the most part, and again superb production. Pretty unfairly maligned as being trite, it's all great fun and super catchy, of course.

I usually really like Abba but I've never gone that far as to listening to all their b-sides. I liked dancing queen, tiger, money money money and happy Hawaii from this album. That being said I think the other songs from this album are quite mid and too mellow for me. Especially knowing me, knowing you and arrival.

So I've never been an ABBA person - that synthetic mid-70s pop sound has never worked for me. But this record is short, so that's good! I like their odd Scandi-accented English. And the keyboard bit going on in the background of "Money, Money, Money," "That's Me," and some of the rest of these songs is fun. They have an old-fashioned feel, like you're in a bar in the 1950s or something. I enjoyed "Tiger," though I'm disappointed on reading the wiki that it's metaphorical and not about an actual tiger. And if I meet you, then I will eat you, I am the tiger, tiger, TIGER. The rest is kinda dumb, but fun. Favorite track: "Arrival." This opens sounding like something by Väsen, or one of those other Swedish trad bands. I liked it better before they started singing, but it's nice.

usually not my go-to music taste but this was refreshing to listen to

Can’t decide if this is a 3 or a 4. Some absolute classics on here but also a fair few that there’s a reason that they’re not better known

Being Swedish, I've grown up hearing ABBA everywhere all the time, so there's lots of nostalgia connected to several songs of theirs. This album has some iconic songs, like Dancing queen and Fernando. My personal favourite is Knowing Me, Knowing You. Many of the others are just average.

Some pop classics. Some fillers

Not as bad as I thought it would be

i love some of their songs, but others are just sort of annoying, you know?

See that Garg, watch that scene, he is the dancing queen.

I was expecting this to be a couple of unassailable classics and ten tracks or so of garbage. The highs (Dancing Queen) are high, the lows (Dum Dum Diddle) are certainly low, and... I must begrudgingly admit that there are a few more pretty good pop songs on here than I expected. I still think ABBA is a singles band and not an album band, but this exceeded my expectations.

Pretty fun, a few bangers, kinda lumpy

Happy hawaii

Our friend, Geoff, is in an ABBA tribute act. Today was his birthday and, as I was playing with him this evening, I asked him to rate the album for me. After some consideration, he gave it three and a half stars. Playing ABBA several nights a week does rub the shine off some of the big hits, of course. He says that Dancing Queen now feels "like wallpaper that's been there too long." But it's hard to ignore the exactitude of the arrangements and the indelibility of the melodies when you are so immersed in them. It gives the album tracks a specific context too. You have to learn everything, because, despite the obvious primacy of the singles and the ABBA Gold tracks, people are desperate for album tracks too. People love Dum Dum Diddle - I'm one of them (that's me, not Geoff). Thanks, Geoff. 3.5 It’s hard to know what to say about an ABBA album. I know what to say about ABBA Gold. But when ABBA are laid bare in terms of individual albums like a regular band, a part of a material culture rather than presented summarily as a sort of half-understood but sublime religious miracle that happened somewhere mysterious and inaccessible (‘Sweden’), then their fallibility looms larger than everyone elses. It is rather discomforting to hear Dancing Queen follow When I Kissed the Teacher; absurd to hear Knowing Me, Knowing You begin after Dum Dum Diddle has just ended. There is something of debasement about the whole thing. It could be that the callow proceduralism of the lesser known half of this album highlights the procedural elements of the classic hits; no one wants to know how the sausages are made. I think the main problem is the shapelessness of the album itself. There is no narrative logic in beginning with When I Kissed the Teacher or ending with Happy Hawaii and no sign of thoughtful sequencing in between. Everything tries to ‘hit’ in some way - except maybe the Title Track. It’s a merciless conveyor belting of catchiness and hook and novelty. Which leaves us nearly obliged to compare it to ABBA Gold I think; clearly the record they were trying to make, right from the start. ABBA Gold is the paragon of pop writing; ABBA are the Lawgivers - no one saw Solon’s first draft and no one ought to have. Still…once the Gold is set to one side, there is much more here than muck. To be honest, it’s all sort of good. ABBA’s interests in a recording studio are so narrow - there is no sense of a desire to explore textures or play with the mixing desk. This is an element that sets them apart from The Beach Boys. The reason the Californians are my example is that ABBA are so like The Beach Boys in another respect - their old-fashioned belief in the power of the musically exquisite. The inherent assumption that you can disregard almost everything else about making a record (even the lyrics!) if, like Mozart, all your notes are in the right place. Well, I dare say they are. It’s very pretty, nimble, playful, carefully arranged music unburdened by Beethovian follies like self-expression and ‘something to say’. Not that that bit in When I Kissed the Teacher about the ‘laws of geometry’ isn’t sheer poetry - but you’d have to think it was accidental, at least amidst fluff like Tiger or Why Did it Have to be Me or…most of this. Schikaneder could have written this stuff. Well, in the 1970s as in the 1790s you had best be a genius if you want to find any significant quantity of Gold this way. Well done Mozart, I mean ABBA. 3/5

It's ABBA, it's fine.

Not really my jam, but some undeniable pop classics on this one. Although I must say I preferred 'The Visitors' as the more cohesive album, even if this has the bigger hits. Really kinda wish the album was more like 'Money, Money, Money' and less like Dancing Queen/Fernando.

The sound is definitely a little samey, but I was impressed by the variety of subjects covered by the lyrics. Unfortunately they are not immune from the One Creepy Song rule.

Undeniably irresistible pop music that has been so overplayed in time that I don’t get much enjoyment out of it anymore.

Enjoyable! Liked each song but feel like some of their other bangers are on different albums.

I prefer The Visitors over this, but still a fine album. 3.2/5.

I am not the biggest ABBA guy, but “money money money” is so important to me.

Some great gems and some... Not so great. I'll take the hits and pass on the rest unfortunately.

Also so es is gut, aber glaub auch nicht das ichs mir anmachen würde

Boomer Geburtstag und alle singen und tanzen...

Another singles band album that I just NEED to hear before I die!!! Spoiler alert: the singles carry and everything else is fine

ABBA on tosi ABBAa. Hittibiisejä löytyy pinkka, niiden ympäriltä ei suurempia sanottavia. Menee kuunnellessa, mutta en aktiivisesti hakeudu ABBAn seuraan.

Weird opening song but I guess it is catchy - good album but I see abba as more a hits band than an album band - high 3

5/10 - For a group with such big hits I thought this album was pretty average. Some of the classics on there but I've heard better.

Probably the platonic ideal of a 70s album— it’s got all the strings and sentimentality I associate with the era. Its more cohesive as an album than I expected, although Dancing Queen as track 2 was definitely jarring (would it be less so if I hadn’t heard it at literally every wedding and karaoke session I’ve been to?) Also doesn’t help it’s behind When I Kissed the Teacher, which is a crazy track 1. Still good overall and proof the Swedes know how to write good pop songs. I can hear the influence on my favorite band Ghost! Standout tracks: Dancing Queen (duh), Knowing Me Knowing You, That’s Me, Tiger…. Clunkers: When I Kissed the Teacher, why did it have to be me?, Happy Hawaii

Listened: 7/15/26 Not my usual. However. Not the worst album I've ever listened to. 3/5 Standout tracks, no order: 1. When I Kissed the Teacher Has some shockingly good beats + melodies 2. Dancing Queen (obv) A classic forever 3. Money Money Money So different from the rest of the album. Kind of threatening sounding 4. Fernando Has an incredible synthesizer. Crazy whiplash in each section of the song. 5. Arrival What is this? sounds very celtic. i feel this as more of a departure sound. Overall: I can see why it made the waves it did at the time. Maybe I need to research some more.

Sure, the songs are catchy and memorable. But listening through the album actually feels anachronistic. It is like an adult listening time capsule. It is comfortable, Hallmark music that feels like a card from a relative you don’t know that well.

Better than I expected. I've always hated the way ABBA gets forced into every possible birthday party, wedding or celebration. It's not that I dislike the music itself, it's just that I'm convinced people have been conditioned to believe it's the definitive party soundtrack, and that you're somehow obligated to enjoy it and pretend that no other music is worth dancing to. I'm sure a good number of people are just playing along because that's what's expected of them, and they don't want to sound like killjoys. Ironically, that does ABBA a disservice, because I have to admit this is actually a good album if you play it in a non-party context. It's warm, fun, full of life and energy. I expected the sugary pop sound and relentless enthusiasm to be insufferable after a few songs, but ABBA did rises above the stereotype, and their talent and sincerity managed to win over even grumpy old me. It's not something I'll be playing of my own accord, and I still can't stand hearing "Dancing Queen" at virtually every party this side of Stockholm. But as a one-time listening experience, I did enjoy it. 6/10

Ngl I was stuck in unexpectedly frustrating traffic so this did not bop as hard as I wanted

Although I've never really enjoyed ABBA all that much, it's easy to see and hear why this was their breakout album. They seemed to have nailed down a distinctive sound on this album, especially with all the mega-singles--including "Fernando", which strangely only appears on the Australian and New Zealand versions of this album--but also in the not-so-memorable remainder of the album too. It's not nearly as impressive as, say, "Rumours", mainly because the filler/vacuous tracks like "When I kissed the teacher" and "Dum dum diddle" bring down the average quality of the tracks by a lot, but still an impressive production from the Eurovision winners, and I'll always have a soft spot for "Money, money, money" and memories of my brothers and me singing along to the chorus and probably playing air-guitar with tennis rackets.

It was fine, obviously some catchy pop tunes.

6/10 ABBA used to be a bit of a joke - very naff, beloved by housewives and people who didn't really like music (e.g. my mother in law). But then people started liking them ironically. And now it is unironic. They work hard mining for musical gold, and return rate of 4 classic disco pop tracks is great. But the slag from such work is just weak and undermines any consideration of this as a larger body of work.

What’s not to love. Sweet hooks, wonderful harmony’s. It’s not chickening why ABBA took the world by storm.

Well, even if this band is overrated, doesn't mean that they are bad. Songs that are not hits are the better ones. Best one is Tiger

Some of their biggest hits here so if you like Abba you’ll love this album. For me it was enjoyable but not spectacular

A good enough album, but with sadly too many overplayed songs.

Hey uhh I'm getting ready for work but I just wanna say, I really liked this on paper and I haven't heard anything quite like this before, but the thing is, it's hard for me to wrap my head around this being a band. It sounds just a bit TOO polished, a but TOO stiff instrumentally. The happiness absolutely shines through, but I take issue with the fact that I don't hear any individuality in the performances outside of the vocals. But the vocals themselves are fantastic, and they make some great songs.

Singles = good Rest - filler

Not my kind of thing but the hits are undeniably good. As with the other album of theirs I heard on here, it's striking how it doesn't draw on the same influences as most of the other stuff on the list. It was actually a bit weird when one of the songs had a blues structure. Outside of the hits though, nothing grabbed me, and some of the songs were a bit silly.

7/10 Buen album, divertido, con energía, me gusto

Was expecting the worst but actually got something which is pretty good. Very surprised to learn that this is a concept album, something that I didn't think ABBA would really do. Quite a few classics on here, but also a couple of saccharine stinkers that let the side down somewhat. Overall, this was surprisingly alright, if a little dated in the synth department. Favourite track: Money, Money, Money Least favourite track: Dum Dum Diddle

it's good but i think i'm kinda sick of abba's sound and i need a break. i liked tiger, never heard that one. there's a few duds but lots of catchy classics too. not all of them i would dance to unless it was the greatest hits

It was fine. Not much into Abba; too saccharine, too Disco. It's a fine album though full of classic songs. I'll allow it.

A perfectly suitable pop album. ABBA's faults mostly lie in how good they are. They are so severely overplayed that "Dancing Queen"—a perfect get-on-the-dancefloor song—borders between a shimmy of my shoulders to enraging my ears. At times, they can come off childish, which is sometimes fun: "Dum Dum Diddle" has a quirky to us that fits in the same category as "Ob-La-Di" (an understandably divisive song). Or fails with a puzzling tale of "When I Kissed the Teacher." You can completely see how ABBA's likely greatest success is the musical of Mamma Mia! because their songs fit spectacularly into the category of musical theater, especially "Money, Money, Money" (the only song besides "Dancing Queen" from this album to feature in the original musical), which sounds like the midway point between Fiddler on the Roof's "If I Were A Rich Man" and Gwen Stefani's "Rich Girl" but is a skip for me for personal listening, but it's a fun one for wedding receptions. I understand why one would like this album, but as far as ABBA goes, this is not a strong album for them (in fairness, it's the only one I've listen to in entirety). It has my least favorite of their hit songs. "Fernando" has always gotten on my nerves, even the spectacular Cher version from Mamma Mia 2 where she plays Meryl Streep's mother. "My Love, My Life" is my favorite, exhibiting something I love about ABBA and I feel is not often brought up when discussing them. They write incredible ballads that don't suffer from being wistful overwrought. The complicities of the group or less focused on than their rock counterparts Fleetwood Mac, but if I had to choose I'd pick "The Winner Takes It All" over "Go Your Own Way." I hope we listen to other ABBA albums because my favorite songs are on Super Trouper and Voulez-Vous (EXCEPT "Chiquitta")

Ballsacks

It's difficult to find any big thing to complain about on this set of lush pop songs. The hooks are plentiful and the synths are layered. "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is great, as is "Dancing Queen," even if it feels weird to be listening to it on purpose instead of at a wedding or in a movie. There are, however, some little things that drag this down. "When I Kissed the Teacher" is very weird lyrically. It's short enough that the lack of variety doesn't really show, but also short enough that the number of songs that are just pretty good is noticeable. "My Love, My Life" is lethargic and uninteresting. With a few more hits this could have been great, but as it is it's only very good.

Dancing Queen Knowing Me, Knowing You Money, Money, Money Fernando

some great highs and some flops, I’m not super into Happy Hawaii. But some of my favorite ABBA songs are on here as well, so I mostly enjoyed it.

Individual ABBA songs are so good but when I listen to an album I feel so perplexed. My American mind can’t comprehend how or why a single group has made all these songs. I guess I can’t really read if the absurdity is sincere or a little self aware. Anyway this album has most of the hits!! I do love Why Did It Have to Be Me? And who doesn’t love Money Money Money!

Not a huge ABBA fan but this is a solid album for them. 3 Stars.

I had 1 added to the old playlist but its not a bad album not bad people and I do like the songs I just wouldn't listen to them

ABBA is ABBA. Enjoyable. But not to play every day.

I wonder how much their catalog remains popular because of the smashing success of the A*Teens

This is a fun album. It's a product of the 70s and showcases 70s europop at its finest.

Cheesy but in an enjoyable way. My favorite track is "The Tiger" and I imagine "I Kissed The Teacher" was more fun when this album came out, but as often as teacher/student affairs are in the news these days it just feels creepy.

One great song, the rest kind of annoying.

the hits hold up, but the deeper cuts are deep cuts for a reason. 3/5.

Bollywood 100% Copied the title track 'Arrival' but I can't prove it ;-;

Ah, ABBA. Or should I say, AHHA, ABBA. No, i should not say that, because that would be weird. You could probably pick any ABBA album to go on this list - each has a few hits and bangers you'll know and assorted filler. The issue with the band has always been a flaw and a plus - you know an ABBA song when you hear it, but they don't do much beyond that. Sure they have variety, but that core sound is so ingrained that they all kind of feel the same after a while. So, this has a few bangers and assorted filler which are fine.

started off very peppy i like the sound very shady bar karaoke coded My love, my life changes the sound a bit, until it the song sounded like a happier song but this sounds like something of substance is being talked about. I like knowing me knowing you as its the kind of song you would just listen in the metro while making a scenario about breaking up with somebody. I REALLY LIKE MONEY MONEY MONEY's SOUNDDD. Thats me reminds me of my sister very teenage girl empowering songs. the whole album is very dipika coded. the avoidance but not the ignorance. I like fernando for the lyrics and the feeling of it. Happy hawai is the kind of song i would play in the webseries i will make which will include a car drive scene or a fair scene with vague things happening .

I thought I liked Abba but perhaps I don't. The songwriting is clearly impressive but I found the actual music quite painful to listen to at times. Particularly the grating harmonies and cheesy backing tracks. But its still good music, despite the well known tracks having been played to death.

What more can be said about Abba? When they get it right they do pop music better than anyone else. Dancing Queen, KMKY, Money Money Money are all perfect little pop nuggets. That said, a lot of the rest of the album is filler. As good as some kf the production and instrumentation is, on repeat listens you can tell it's just 50s songs with twin guitar harmonies. Iron maiden if they read Take A Break instead of Tolkien. Impossible to hate, but not woeth recommending. 3?

The bagpipes number was a surprise especially being followed by a mexican number. The writing does come across as formulaic with some songs blending into each other. The harmonies stay just this side of sickly sweet but it's good honest pop with an accent on goodness

Props for longevity and a couple monster hits ("Dancing Queen" and "Money Money Money" especially) but ABBA has never been high on my list of bands I enjoy. Just part of the disco-pop sound that was pretty vapid but did produce some extremely catchy jangles.

People will tell you that Abba are annoying. And they may be right, depending on the dose. But those people have never went to a white person wedding and seen the dance floor fill the second Dancing Queen starts up.

Not my cup of tea, but I understand why people like it.

I do enjoy Abba and it's very catchy. I didn't discover much that was better than the hits though. It was a fun listen tho! 3.5

this is not for me...im not excited for this I will say I recognize for more songs than expected. This is not a bad album per say, but it is not my vibe, and is not weird enough for me to be super interested in it.

O álbum tem vários hits (when i kissed the teacher, dancing queen, money, money e fernando), mas como álbum é bem fraco.

Sad i can't give a 3.5 cause fernando deserves a 0.5 on its own

I always considered ABBA a singles band…but what singles!

É um álbum giro. Acredito que tenha sido revolucionário na altura em que saiu. Tem muitos singles conhecidos que até aos dias de hoje são incríveis de ouvir. Dum dum diddle e knowing me, knowing you, foram as minhas favoritas. 6/10

Some very famous songs that I really like but a lot of filler in between to get to them that aren’t too good

it was OK. Abba is Abba.

This one is tough to grade. The songs seem so unauthentic, so produced and manufactured. It feels like... Ok, lay down the vocals. Ok, now lay down the acoustic guitars. Ok, now lay down the drums. Ok, now lay down the bass. Ok, now add some effects. The vocals are great, despite heavily overproduced. It just doesn't all come together for me. They are great songs though so whoever r the songwriters are super talented.

Fine. They sounded good enough, just not super special. “Dancing Queen” is a classic obviously, but besides that it’s just sort of fine.

La música de ABBA la vinculo automáticamente con la banda sonora para un musical, mi favorita ha sido Fernando

A fun batch of disco pop. Some absolute bangers on here that you’d need to be soulless not to start tapping your foot to.

Always kinda fun

Nicht mein Fall, aber besser als ich gedacht hätte Favs: when i kissed the teacher, Knowing me, knowing you
