Reviews (page 7 of 14)

There’s no other band like ABBA. Such pure music.

Lovely lovely ABBA.

Otros discos de 1976: Songs in the key of life, Hotel California, Desire, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, el directo de Peter Frampton, los debuts de Boston y Tom Petty, Jailbreak, Station to station, Fly like an eagle, The year of the cat...

En klassiker

ICONIC

Great pop

Good album to listen to if in need of being cheered up. Happy sounding dancy beats and lyrics to match. Good songwriting.

One of the best pop albums of all time. Fun and infectious energy

Top tier pop. Not something I would probably choose to listen to in most situations. But if you want to unite a disparate mix of generations with some banging tunes - this is it.

favourite: dum dum diddle, money money money, fernando least favourite: arrival this album is great mayb 7-8/10

This was my album of the day. Abba rocks. This actually came at a perfect time for me to listen to because just like a month or two ago I started going down the Abba catalog but stopped right before this one. It’s nice to see their huge transition from awesome folk pop to disco and I think this album is fucking fantastical… up until a certain point. The first seven tracks go from awesome sweet melodies that could make you cry to make you think to just make you dance, and then it stops. Because of repetition, the latter half of the album starts becoming a repetitive and boring. And then it picks back up at the end with Arriva and Fernando. Those two songs alone, the way they connect and fully theme the album, I thought would’ve been a perfect way to end it but then they also add Happy Hawaii, which is such an obvious marketing song for some reason. Overall, super fun. I would’ve cut a couple songs, but can’t deny the legendary Dancing Queen, B-. Oh, also they start the album with the song called. When I kissed the teacher, super sussy

I love ABBA's singles, I feel like the forgettable stuff is pretty forgettable though haha. Like... TOO sparkly sometimes, where I feel like the low end dropped out and all I'm left with is soprano harmonies in major key. It's not bad, and still very easy on the ears for the most part, but I kinda gotta be in the mood. We'll call it a 4 because those singles are 🔥

Super fun album and one of the all time greats.

Disco pop goodness. Just a lot of fun

A jolly offering from the Swedish maestros. Whilst some songs feel every one of their 48 years, there are more than a couple of all-time pop classics, serving to edge the start-rating up to 4....

I used to get so many copies of this record at auction when waiting for furniture to come up for bid. I have some fond memories of listening to them, and it's hard to deny an era-icon smash like "Dancing Queen," but ABBA are for me a Greatest Hits type of group.

Perfect pop. Eurovisions finest do it again!

It's quite hard to be objective with this album. The singles from this are so huge, and (certainly in the UK) so regularly played that they sort of interrupt the flow of the album. It is impossible to fault the production and performances, and most of the songwriting, too. Knowing the back story does make this a brutal album, and whilst Knowing Me, Knowing You probably takes the lead on being the most well known break-up song, but some of the lyrics in My Love, My Life are just heartbreaking.

Much, much better than I expected. A 3.5 bumped to a 4 for subverting expectations in a big way. 2 things though: The lyrics and title on that opening track...woof. Dancing Queen sounds like it's starting in the middle of the song. Why doesn't it have a proper build? It's still a bop.

unbelievable bop ratio on this record

So many goated songs on here - but “when I kissed the teacher” and “happy hawaii” (seriously wtf was that song) keep it from being a 5. But most of these songs are very special, and i really loved the title track, which I hadn’t heard before.

Pretty perfect pop album

hawaiii and dum diddle can be skipped , rest of the album is solid gold 70s pop !

What more can I say about an album that contains "Dancing Queen", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", and "Money, Money, Money"; plus the title instrumental track "Arrival" itself. A great album.

Dancing Queen is iconic. The rest of the album was poppy pleasantness. Not usually my style, but fun away.

It’s ABBA so of course it is a lot of fun! Catchy songs, nice vocals, but it was almost sickeningly sweet by the end of the album bc I had been so overloaded with ABBA.

85/100

They're super uncool but damn that's catchy 4/5!

I always do love Abba, but I’m pretty sure we can all agree that ‘Abba Gold’ should count as an album (rather than greatest hits), and then that can be on the list.

Eurovision GOATs

first listen so so good, i listened with the springtime windows open fresh out of a shower

It's impossible to have a bad time while listening to Abba.

Too much disco for my taste. The disco demolition happened for a reason.

Classic rock is classic and of course there has to be an ABBA album on this list - they’re almost their own sub-genre of rock. Probably best that that disc has their most famous song as well as their most underrated song (Fernando).

The melodrama! The dancing! THE FEELINGS. I thought I wasn't into ABBA before this and I was wrong.

Karaoke night

Get your flares on grandad. This is a humdinger.

1. 4.2 2. 4.8 3. 3.4 4. 3.8 5. 3.8 6. 4.2 7. 3.6 8. 3.5 9. 3.8 10. 4 11. 4.2 12. 3.7

I read somewhere that the reason behind ABBAs continued popularity was despite the lack of engaging lyrics, which can be attributed to English not being the first language, the production and layering of the songs is just so sugar. I agree this album has so many classics we have all heard a million times and someone still aren’t quite boring. The fact this album contains at least 5 songs most people would know word for word without ever making a conscious effort to listen to, is a testament to the catchiness and popularity of ABBA, Whilst this may not be my genre at all, this album is an absolute titan of pop music. 4.5* with the only thing stopping it being a solid 5 is it’s lacking any edge or unpredictability.

Love it!

Fun, peppy, emotional.

I needed this listen. This was fun.

Abba are some of the best musicians of our time. While theres other bands i prefer i only have respect for them

Another good album.

4 stars mostly because of Fernando

I love ABBA! This has got some really good songs, and a few I haven't heard MY love, my life is sad. Prophetic? I liked it a little less than I thought I would!

Lots of catchy songs on this album, some of which I had previously heard. Some of them tended to sound very similar. Overall, a very enjoyable album to listen to.

Really nice, it was really cool

Really, really enjoyed this album! I'm somebody who enjoys the older, old-school songs. This didn't feel like it lasted too long, and even if I'm not going to remember every song, what is on offer I see myself coming back to! Highly recommend!

Few duds but lots of bangers, not a no skipper

I had to force myself not to skip the massively overplayed tracks. But I adored the ones I didn't know. ABBA deserves the hype. Very poised and warm music. I'm a sucker for the theatrical 70s.

first half of this album is an easy 5 stars but it loses steam a little bit after Money, Money, Money. still a very good album though! i’ve been an abba fan for years but never sat down and listened to this all the way through. very silly how Happy Hawaii is basically just Why Did It Have To Be Me with different words

Its kind of good actually

Nice to listen to. Kid would love it

They don’t make pop music like this anymore 🤷🏻‍♂️ An album that puts you right back into its era, I can just see myself in the 70’s driving around with the windows down at night bumping this fallen hopelessly in love.

Not yet convinced abba are exactly an albums act, but the singles are all classics and the album cuts don't feel like their filling space on the record, even if I wouldn't say I'm particularly fascinated by most of them.

Classic ABBA. I know some people say it can get old. And I am sick of the Classics but I can't help but bop.

Fantastic album. Fun, varied, and timeless. Dancing Queen is definitely the best song on here but its surrounded by tons of other great tracks that make this a worthwhile album.

Good classic always great to listen too. Has aged slightly

Pretty good pop; everyone knows ‘Dancing Queen’, and that’s the best song. The end.

Dancing queen Fernando

This album has enough hits to get it into the classics, sure, but the deep tracks are alright too. Some a bit of a snooze, but for the most part, people are missing out if they only listen to the songs that were in the musical/s. Also, fun fact, “Dancing Queen” was written about me. Hard to believe considering I was born in ‘02, but facts are facts. 4/5

Can't say I've ever listened to an ABBA album front to back until today and it wasn't terrible. Contains the undeniable bangers of Dancing Queen and Fernando, Tiger was alright too.

Good overall.

Really really enjoyed!!!

Really good. They’ve got their sound down to a science. Fernando and Dancing Queen will live forever.

Very upbeat and fun!

Any Album with "Dancing Queen" is going to be worth a listen.

Über-Pop!!! Fantastic songwriting. Although you might be annoyed of the over-presence of the smash hits you just need to give it a try as if it was for the 1st time you listen to these brilliant songs

As letras não são muito o forte do álbum, e tem algumas músicas chatas, mas a produção é tão boa que não tem como não se divertir Fav tracks: When I Kissed The Teacher, Dancing Queen, Dum Dum Diddle, That's Me, Why Did It Have To Be Me? Least fav track: Money Money Money

Everything ya want in an album! Musically interesting and diverse, with fun catchy hooks and choruses. Loved reading up more on ABBA as I don't really know there history and was curious once I saw their last album was recorded in 1981 and then they came out with a new one 40 years later in 2021. Wonder if that one's any good? Also didn't know all four members were married at one point? Very cool story. Living legends for sure. Quite enjoyed this record, hoping for more ABBA and if not, I'll definitely be revisiting this record.

They were on the moment. Great.

Muy bueno. Me encanta. Todos los temas. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Timeless good music

70s Swedish Pop goodness

It's Abba pop brilliance but also some serious bubblegum.

One of the first proper albums I ever listened to around the age of 5 or 6. Mostly I liked the helicopter on the front.

bez obzira na moju vjecnu ljubav prema abba-i i nekim pismama s ovog albuma, nije mi najbolji njihov tako da ne mogu dat 5

Sve bi dala da je ovaj album duži! Napokon pop koji ima dobar tekst

One of the greatest pop bands to ever create music. Not one of my favourite bands, but I see how they got so big and what made them so good. The vocals, harmonies, music, all worked out until it was perfect. Standout tracks: When I Kissed The Teacher, Dancing Queen, My Love, My Life, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Money, Money, Money, Tiger, Fernando 8,5 out of 10

Their music transports you, even if you don’t want to go there and even if that place is sometimes meh

It's pretty corny but I can't deny that this album has a lot of great songs.

Fantastic, ABBA always hitthe mark and this is a great example of their work

Not a fan of ABBA but this was a very solid album.

Love it. Abba is so much fun. Not a bad song on this album. In the wrong mood, this album might drive you nuts, but so upbeat, fun, and positive. Makes just about anyone want to tap their foot along.

I am the dancing queen.

„Oh no, not ABBA, I can’t listen to that, heard them so many times on the radio“ where my thoughts. I never listened to an album by them and was positively surprised after hearing it. I’m not gonna listen to it again probably, but from the first song on it just is good, easy-to-listen-to pop music. And I was surprised that I knew half the songs without having listened to that album before, just a sign of how famous and often played they are.

An absolute classic filled with hit after hit. Certainly among the essential albums and I'm glad this app put ABBA on my radar more. Will for sure listen to more. 8/10

How do you get voices and instruments to sound this clean and shimmering in the 70s? Just the coolest vibes.

An unapologetically classic 70s pop album, with one of their biggest hits - Dancing Queen (my favorite on the album) several other hits such as Knowing Me, Knowing You, Money, and Fernando. New discovery for me was Why Did It Have To Be Me.

3.8 - Really enjoyed, I like ABBA, I grew up with ABBA, some people hate ABBA, I am not one of those. I do think there are stand out songs and as an album didn't think much of it. I'd rather stick on ABBA gold and get the best shit.

A classic!

Lots of classics here and a few I wasn't familiar with.

Several great tracks, but a little ABBA goes a long way. Some tracks didn’t age well to me. The most popular tracks are still very good and you can’t help but sing to them.

Have to love ABBA. This was a solid album showing their talent

Sonido basado

Very happy n funny

8/10 it’s a must listen pop classic. it’ll never get old, it’s nostalgic, dancey and fun

Some old favorites and some new songs I’d not heard before.

A near perfect album

One of my favourite albums of all time. Some moments of complete silliness (Dum Dum Diddle in particular), and a degree of imagination is required to enjoy the ubiquitous Dancing Queen - but Knowing Me Knowing You and the title track mark this as an album of beauty.

A lot of the greats but I’d never listened to ABBA album all the way through so that was fun

very fun

Enjoyed it more than i expected.

They are the sonic equivalent to sunshine

30.12.23 Geniales Popalbum, keine Frage

Old ABBA=Good ABBA. I've been brainwashed into liking this band by being constantly bombarded by their songs probably since I was still in the womb. I wouldn't listen to their album on a whim, but I just can't deny that they are probably the best pop band in history. Good job and thanks for all the fish.

Solidly nostalgic and packed with hits. For whatever reason I'd never heard the first track. That one takes a star off tho. Yikes.

I thought most of the songs were great in context, with the characteristic weirdness of ABBA.

This is strong stuff, the major hits are all classic and great listens, the stuff that was in Mamma Mia like Kissed The Teacher and Why Did It Have To Be Me? are just as worthy of acclaim, just let down by the rest of the album, they're very much filler material.

bom album overall, sem skips, 2 tracks muito famosas, é solido 8/10 melhores tracks: when i kissed the teacher/ dancing queen/my love, my life/money,money,money/arrival/fernando

Opens with one of my least favourite ABBA songs, and That’s Me isn’t that great either imo - otherwise an absolutely fantastic album. Either this or the more adventurous The Visitors for their best, this is definitely their most fun though

Enjoyed this album more than I thought. Not my type of music, but influential and deserves a place on this list. This album was less disco and more pop-oriented than I had expected.

ABBA was corny and weird when I was a teen, but since the advent of the movie adaptation of Mamma Mia (its been a stage musical for way longer) the tide of public opinion has truly turned, and I'm no exception. While I don't really ever go out of my way to listen, ABBA is undeniably fun when I do. I feel like we should be allowed to pick compilations for this list besides LPs, but since we can't, this isn't a bad choice - 4 big hits and no real duds, launching them to mainstream global success. Personally I could do without Money Money Money but I know I'm in the minority. Benny and Bjorn know how to write a hook, and Agnatha and Anni-frid know how to sell even the weirder lines that don't quite work in English convincingly. I watched a doc about Swedish songwriters a few years ago that really warmed me to them. Sweden was SO mad they did Waterloo on Eurovision for a long ass time (Swedish culture was and is about being an inconspicuous lil guy), and they did the crazy costumes to exploit a tax loophole if I remember right. Also, like Fleetwood Mac they had two couples that split acrimoniously and then just kept going as a band for a long while. Mad respect to them for the hologram show where they don't even have to perform but still get to rake in the money. They feel like a band that is came together against all odds, but everyone is generally glad they do. Its a really dated sound but its en vogue, baby! Also, Dum Dum Diddle is underrated.

Very good pop. Strong vocals, nice harmonies, simple chord progressions, upbeat mood. hard to go wrong

Sometimes I can hear this stuff and it feels fresh. The instrumentation is frankly a little weird when you listen to it! If I default to half-listening at any time though these tunes are so familiar I could be in a grocery store or at a wedding. Not the band's fault for being so popular.

A lot of their greatest hits are found here. Beautiful harmonies. Fun disco backgrounds. It’s just my taste, but this is a band that I can only listen to when I’m in the mood. That said, this very well could be a no-skipper album. Solid 4

I guess people will be singing along with, and dancing to, most of the songs on this album until the end of time.

Delightful album, full of iconic songs and wonderful hidden gems. It gets 4 stars just by having the ultimate earworm song: Dancing Queen.

A huge nostalgia rush for me, having received the LP for christmas as a kids when it was released. I haven't really been an ABBA fan since, but these songs are better than I thought they would be.

Well I definitely know this band haha, and recognise a lot of the songs. Don’t hate listening to them but also wouldn’t add them to my library. 4/5 for the vibes.

The hits keep coming! I just want to start this review by saying one of the most fun nights of the last 5 years was a wine-soaked ABBA dance party with a group of friends and their parents, a group of Eastern European immigrants in their 60s. Dancing Queen is an unimpeachable slice of pop perfection. I know some of these songs already: Dancing Queen, Money Money Money, and Fernando. Once again, I wrote a longer piece about each song but then didn't save it. It boiled down to- other than the first song, these range from pretty tight to extremely tight pop jams.

They took the world by storm in the early to late 1970s. This album was probably the one that made them a house-hold name in America. Classics: Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You, Money Money, Money Others: When I Kissed the Teacher, Why Did It Have to Be Me?, My Love My Life, Dum Dum Diddle, That's Me, Tiger.

Very good album with a few cracking songs

Im not the biggest ABBA fan but this was pretty good

I love ABBA’s discography. Was surprised at how few of these songs I knew but they still jam.

Quando é bom é ótimo mas quando é ruim é ruim. MUITOS hits atemporais, mas tem uns fillers que eu dispenso.

Abba is always a fun listen. This album is the essence of that era and good representation of Abba's work.

Nice record, of course. Full of bangers, and the basslines are fire. Favourite tracks: Money, Money, Money, That's Me, Tiger, Arrival, Fernando.

Sonically this band crushes it. The vocals, instrumental work, harmonies. It's a taste that could not be for everyone but it crushes it top to bottom for what it tries to do. It almost feels from a time that is unrelateable now. The are some duds on the album but way more top notch ones.

It's ABBA, It's a fun album, not perfect. Solid production. Money,Money,Money was the stand out song for me.

Dancing Queen will always conjure feelings of my childhood in a subtle, indescribable way, even though my mom was three when it came out. The layering they create feels so powerful and gets addictive, and most songs on the album seem able to stand on their own as a complete thought. Not very versed in European/Swedish pop, so for me their music is super identifiable and altogether unique. It seemed intentional that the record ended on a mellower, euphoric note, but by the end I was wishing for some more emotional energetic moments. 7.5/10

Catchy, fun and iconic. Everyone knows of ABBA, surely? And I think it'd be a struggle to find anyone who's not heard at least one track on this album. Personally, I've never been quite sure on my feelings about ABBA. Their poppiness was certainly something I hated when I was younger, but now I find myself enjoying this quite a bit. Some absolute classics here, but a few lulls too in my opinion. I still wouldn't call any ABBA my favourite in any capacity, but this was a fun one to listen to. Favourite: Dancing Queen

Been a fan of abba for decades, but had only listened to their hits. Lots of good tracks on this album.

Old school classic!

Full of great songs

Everyone knows ABBA, they have their sound, I like the lyrics and the jazzyness of the songs Between 4/5***** Surprised by how many of their songs I liked that aren’t their most famous ones

Solid album w lots of bangers

I enjoyed this an unexpected amount. Some really great songs and a ton of fun. 4/5

A pop marvel. This is the quintessential/stereotypical ABBA sound - the one that got them mocked for decades and the one that allowed them to be reclaimed years later. Not giving in to the joy of this record is a fault of yours. So bright, so fun, let go.

A classic!!

I mean... it's ABBA. C'mon. Their music is always fun and upbeat, although not the most revolutionary, they're definitely a favorite for obvious reasons.

Its ABBA, maybe not ABBA at their best but even ABBA at their worst is a spectacle that shines brighter than most

Of course it has probably the most popular ABBA song of all time, but it's certainly not as strong of an album overall as some of their other works released both before and after Arrival. Of course, that isn't to say the album is bad in any way. Enjoyable listen. When I Kissed the Teacher is still a great deep cut.

I love them.

It was really good! I enjoyed listening to it the whole way through

100% ABBA 👌🏻👌🏻

Timeless precious swedish stuff. 3.9.

Das Anhören macht richtig Spaß! Manche ABBA Songs gehören sozusagen zur Allgemeinbildung, um dieser Epoche emotional näher zu kommen. Damals in der Disco muss der Bär gesteppt haben. 7.8/10

Solid album with no skips and some great songs

Infectiously poppy.

I have a soft spot for 70s white bread suburban pop music. I usually go for the Carpenters, but this is also pretty enjoyable.

They’re cheesy but I don’t know, I like ABBA and this has some good songs on it.

It's good

when I kissed the teacher - lol

This is a great album and probably one of ABBAs best. Knowing me knowing you and money money money are standouts

Perfect pop

Fun music

I can't believe these guys copied the famous Icelandic pop group BABBA and their classic song "Disco Girl". All Gravity Falls references aside, this album's pretty alright. I'm not huge on it or anything, but it's definitely not bad. ABBA isn't really a band made for full album listening. You just kind of throw on some of their songs during a community college Halloween party (I didn't say anything about referencing other shows). The instrumentals are pretty neat. "Dancing Queen" is an absolute classic for good reason. The singing isn't bad at all. I'm not the biggest ABBA fan out there, but I do respect them and their music. I just don't think the full album experience is anything special. The bonus track "Fernando" slaps though. Overall, pretty catchy and well done, but nothing to write home about. 3/5. EDIT: Yeah, I actually kinda love this. I re-listened to Arrival and had a really good time with it. I'd say it might be even better than The Visitors now that I've heard that one too. Who knew that becoming more of a music nerd would give me a deeper appreciation for ABBA? But yeah, this is some genuinely great pop music. 4/5.

it’s abba! who doesn’t love abba?

This is a fantastic pop album, hard to believe there are so many hits on it. There are a few weird ones; When I Kissed the Teacher (for obvious reasons) and Arrival (sounds like something you'd hear playing in a tacky Scottish souvenir shop), and a couple boring ones (My Love, My Life and That's Me). But other than those it's great. People who take issues with Abba and other pop artists need to get down off their high horse. Not everything needs to be comparable to the Beatles or whatever...

"Dancing Queen" is incredible. It's one of the songs on my short list to play for the aliens one day when they land on our planet and want to learn about Earth culture. It's pure joy in a bottle. The rest of this album has its moments. "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is a good one. And I like the rockin' "Why Did It Have to Be Me?" The lyrics are fun and I love that swinging melody that the horns play. And ooh those drums on "Tiger" are so dramatic. Really, every song on this album is dramatic and cheesy. That's what makes it so ridiculous and so charming. A few songs are pretty silly. "When I Kissed the Teacher" is a surprising album opener. Not one that has aged well. 😂 And “Money, Money, Money” is funny. It sounds like a song that was cut from a musical.

ABBA are really amazing. They have such a timeless sound that I feel like will live on for as long as people like pop music. To me this sounds like a band that never sat on their laurels, they push in these tracks, they keep the energy high and they don't allow anything that isn't perfect to get on the album. "Pristine" is a word that comes to mind. So many things done right.

I never liked the music from Mamma Mia but hearing some more of ABBA was really fun. I enjoyed more of the songs than I thought I would, and definitely will check out some more of their work.

Fernando is a banger. The whole album is great. 4 stars for sure.

Its abba

Fett album, massa klassiker o roliga instrumental. Favorit Dancing Queen ❤️❤️😭😭🤙🤙

Ça enchaîne tube sur tube sans sourciller. J'ai justement acheté un surmatelas et des fausses plantes à Ikea ce samedi.

L'album préféré de tous les adorateurs d'étiquettes, grâce à l'emminent "When I Kissed The Teacher". Même sans partager ce goût pour l'étiquette, on se retrouve quand même conquis.

Honestly way better than I expected. I obviously knew "Dancing Queen", but I was surprised by a lot of the other songs, and I found them very upbeat and dance-able.

Upbeat and uplifting. Strong chorus/harmonization.

Bruh, Its abba ofc its gonna be good. Very good vibes and upbeat (cause its ABBA)💀 but like why did the first slap so hard.

who doesn't love a bit of ABBA

Album 178 of 1001 ABBA - Arrival Rating : 5 / 5 Favorite Track : Fernando My appreciation for ABBA has grown a bit as I've listened through the first 650 or so albums in the list. They are much more than the international bubblegum pop group I considered them to be. While most of their albums are totally new to me, this one has the songs that always stood out the most. One constant memory for me (for whatever reason) is an episode of American Bandstand where John Travolta was the guest (April 10, 1976). At some point in the show, everyone was dancing to Fernando. For whatever reason, that found a place in my memories and stayed there. Just a frozen moment in time that has stuck with me. It is a pleasant memory that brings to mind a much easier and fun time when all there was to do was live and learn. The chorus takes me right back to that moment. That is what this album gives to me- an enjoyable listen and a reminder of that little piece of time. The extra point is for that and the fact that I'm feeling especially reminiscent today.

Dancing Queen

Really solid, sparkling pop with some tight harmonies. Knowing Me, Knowing You might just be one of the all-time great breakup songs.

It's like purified pop gold. Some of it is a bit saccharine for my taste but you can't deny the absolute silky quality of a lot of these songs.

Great album from start to finish loved it

Teacher - Energetic & Bass extremely prominent Dancing queen - epic classic disco My love, my life - strings amazing, lovely chord progressions Dum dum diddle - the evolution that would become mamma Mia later? Very similar Knowing me knowing you - funk, strong lyrics Money money money - always found it to sound like a show tune. Timeless classic That's me - typical abba sound, would have been a disco classic albeit unknown compared to other songs on the album Why did it have to be me? - Boogie Woogie with blues origins. Solid track

There's a reason Abba are pop legends, this is one of them. Best song: Knowing Me, Knowing You

Muchas vibes a musical, me gusta la instrumentación con un sonido súper brillante junto con la gran variedad de armonías, un album que levanta el ánimo

Solid 4/5

One hit wonders, they'll never amount to anything ;-)

A pretty epic collection of songs that everyone now knows. Among the greatest artists of all time.

This album is packed with hits, but the filler songs are bad.

Outside of the hits, I really liked some of the curios here: That’s Me, Tiger, Arrival. A more eclectic album than I was expecting.

For most ordinary bands, this would basically just be a greatest hits record, but this is ABBA and they are no ordinary band. Some wicked keys on this one as well.

What? An ABBA album filled with meticulously crafted pop songs? *acts surprised*

Is this the first appearance by the Swedish legends? I am very partial to a spot of ABBA, I have a real sweet tooth for those melodies and voices and songwriting hooks. There's a few mishits here, including the morally questionable first song, but the inclusion of Fernando on the Australian album version, plus at least two other bona fide amazing songs, keeps this at a solid 4.

ABBA really aren't a band for me, but this is a really brave effort. So many unusual sounds and styles all on the same album would typically be career suicide for most 'radio bands' but this is a really quality effort

money money money~ in the rich man's world~

This is the ABBA album with their most well known hits, including Fernando which is one of my favourite ABBA songs

Abba are not a group I listen to, day-to-day, even though I do like a lot of defiantly 'pop' music (I've never seen Mamma Mia, and have no burning inclination to do so, just to ram the point home). I find them a bit too cheesy, a bit too sickly sweet (cheesy AND sweet - is that gastronomically possible?) to ever actively seek out. None of which is to say that I don't think they're great at what they do, or that when I do listen to them in small doses, I usually have a good time. If we include Fernando there are 4 undeniable enormo-bangers on this record, and the other tracks are cut from the same cloth. An album that showcases what Abba were all about very well, I'd say.* *Though having said that, maybe all their albums do? That's the thing thing with Abba: like a box of cheesy chocolates, you know almost exactly what you're gonna get. And maybe that's part of the appeal.

Jammers, who can’t get down with some ABBA

I've thought about what to score this quite a bit. I didn't really have to listen to it much (though of course I did a once through start to finish) because I've heard most of it countless times before through no deliberate action of my own. Ultimately, though I don't really enjoy it I've given this 4 stars for these reasons: -It is very well produced -The fact its not a greatest hits album but plays like one is testament to the consistency of its song writing -They took all that crazy disco stuff coming out of America and made an album your mum can enjoy So, 4 as I can't give 5 to something u personally don't enjoy, and its tempting to dock a further star for being the catalyst to us being subjected to Pierce Brosnan singing.

I have a soul and therefore can't give this bubblegum any less than a 4.

Got some bangers

A fun pop album that is helped by the fact it has songs on one of the most well known movie soundtracks. I expected to enjoy the songs from Mamma Mia and have everything else be average. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the overall album is. Fun lyrics, good singing, and not overly repetitive like a lot of pop is. Happy Hawaii is a great song to end it all on

Aside from the stone-cold classic Dancing Queen, I thought the rest of this album seemed to struggle a bit getting to that level of energy. Still, the songwriting is top notch and each song sounds distinct and has its own little twists and flairs that set it apart from a lot of other early 70s albums.

They're og for a reason

As someone who never listened to an ABBA album before this one I expected that it would be good because I enjoy a lot of their hits I know but I did not expect the album cuts to be as good as they were on this album. From "My Love, My Life" to "That's Me" to "Why Did It Have To Be Me?". Of course the hits from this album are also really good my favorite being "Money, Money, Money". Just a classic pop/disco album that is a really easy listen and one I find hard to like. I would probably put it around an 8.5 because it is good but it does have some flaws. I thought that a few tracks ("Tiger", "Arrival" and "Happy Hawaii") were a little weaker than the ones that came before and they felt like lesser versions of previous songs on the album.

It was super pop-y but I enjoyed it. It was good for a relaxed jog.

time transcendent some absolute corkers let's be honest

4 Some bangers on here!!!

never really listened to abba before this (besides "dancing queen" which is always played at a party at least once) but this is actually making me want to hear more. even though this isn't my go-to genre of music, i would honestly listen to this again.

Very good

Big hits: Dancing Queen Knowing Me, Knowing You Money, Money, Money Fernando, and lesser known 'That's Me'. All very well crafted songs, with great instrumentation, vocal arrangements, and chord changes.

Never thought of ABBA as anything other than a collection of greatest hits. Interesting to listen to a full album. Unfortunately the non hits kind of get overshadowed and it is hard to really give them a true listen. Never been a huge fan but hard to argue with.

Disco bisco Rating: 7.5/10

well. the album tracks aren't singles for good reason. i do not want to hear about kissing the teacher Favorite Tracks: Dancing Queen, Knowing Me, Knowing You 3.5-4/5

This album is without a doubt iconic. The vocals really make this album special and each song has its own individuality that makes it stand out whilst also tying in nicely with the rest of the songs on the album. I thought that the songs at the end were not quite as strong, but nevertheless, I give it a 9/10

A great album by abba. This album has it all as far as pop records go. This is my wife’s favorite band so I’m sure she’d give this a 5. As much as I enjoy dancing queen I can’t let one song control the whole review. Luckily the production on this album is superb. The instrumentals vary and sound great. There are several songs on this that have replay value. 7.8/10

Mostly iconic songs, a couple uninteresting

Great!

PREFS : When I Kissed the Teacher, Dancing Queen, My Love, My Life, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Money, Money, Money, That's Me, Tiger MOINS PREF : Why Did It Have To Be Me?

Another classic

I don’t love ABBA, and I could go the rest of my life and never hear Dancing Queen again. I have to admit, though, that Bjorn can write a song. Not necessarily a song that I like, but an objective dinger nonetheless.

Fernando was number one in Australia for 14 weeks! Money, Money, Money and Dancing Queen spent a combined 14 weeks at the top. I was one of those sick of ABBA by then. So it's good to finally listen to the whole album finally. What's not to like: the blending of those two voices with Benny and Bjorn's brilliant arrangements were at their peak here. I wonder why Tiger wasn't a single, but they were spoiled for choice. A couple of fillers prevents it getting 5.

Great 70s pop

Mama Mia II soundtrack for the most part. Basically greatest hits part 2. Great pop.

Idk what was happening at schools in Sweden in the 70s but this feels inappropriate. Lots of all time favorites on here, but a few duds. Ah well, at least it's not another scottish post punk band from the 80s!

Hittikimara. Tapasin vihata kyseistä bändiä, mutta pakko on pitkin hampain myöntää että oman aikansa toimivaa poppista. 4/5

mmm ABBA mój ulubiony rodzaj rymów <3

Catchy and killer. Listened on the plane from Md to NY

Mama Mia, it's fun!

The thing i noted most is how different this is than many other "hit" albums. Most other popular albums actually sounds strange... the hits stand out as so much better than everything around it, you wonder if they really are the same band. This album is really consistent with melodies and energy, and the not-hit songs are only just the slightest bit off from being hits of their own. Pretty banger.

Not my cup of tea but quite good

Conozco algunas canciones -+10 DE 10

All the bops. I don’t even really care for ABBA…but damn. This is ridiculously catchy. Every song is so sugary sweet. On the whole I didn’t feel like skipping…which is really a great thing because I’m impatient honestly.

Dancing Queen, Dum Dum Diddle, Knowing Me, Knowing You, That’s Me, Tiger, Fernando and Happy Hawaii. Catchy and great vocals. Never listened to anything by ABBA but will now. 9/10

ABBA is always fantastic. Some songs are super hits while others are so so, but I enjoyed this overall. I have a list of favorite Swedish bands, and ABBA is #1.

all songs are an actual bop. im a huge musical fan so no surpise i love this album already. mamma mia unlocked my love for abba. most amazing of albums.

I gotta say - I don't understand the vitriol. Best track: Arrival

listened to with with blon bl-03 (on left channel) and kz zx pro x (on right) theres is no good reason for this my dogs just decided to eat one of each

Banger, como dicen los gringos.

Great album!

If Abba was already a hit sensation at this time, it would be this album that cemented them in gold as one of the greatest euro-pop and euro-disco acts of all time. This album has some of the group's best and most well known songs, not the least of which is Dancing Queen. These are songs that have stood for decades and are still very well recognized. This is just a really fun album that shows off the band's dynamics and harmonies. I don't know what to say about this album or group that hasn't already been said, but they make music such an unabashed joy.

Almost 5

You can't help but love this album, super catchy with several classics. 4.5/5

ABBA is considered a "gay anthem" and tbh it's grown on me in recent years. Overall this album was solid with some highs and lows

A solid album with several songs that leave you tapping your foot by the end. Easy to see the many influences it left on pop music going forward

My favorite album cover that shows every person in the band looking like they think the photo concept is the dumbest thing they've ever heard. When they are good, they are very, very good. Other times they are still pretty damn good.

ABBA are mostly known for their singles and the stellar songwriting, production, and arrangements that was displayed in them... Yet if there is only *one* album from the Swedish band you should own, this would be the one--along with the pitch perfect *Gold* compilation, that goes without saying. For starters, *Arrival*'s got three hits that you can also find in said compilation (*four* in its CD edition or Australian/New Zealand version: "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Dancing Queen", "Money, Money, Money" and "Fernando"). That's already an amount of hits most bands would only dream of producing for one LP. But now you need to add the other stellar cuts in it, which actually sound as good as the more famous tunes from the band--cuts such as the opener "When I Kissed The Teacher", or "Dum Dum Diddle" or the exhilarated and exhilarating "Tiger". And the instrumental title track closing the original proceedings is a short yet quite emotional apex for the whole thing. There are a couple of fillers here and there, but with eight or nine great tracks out of eleven, what you have here is still a very good album. Benny and Björn had so many great melodies in them, and Agnetha and Anni-Frid such powerful voices--it doesn't really matter if the lyrics are a little cheesy sometimes: as every fan of good pop music knows, such lyrics are part of their timeless charm. My overall feeling it that you just gotta pay ABBA at least *one* tribute in a list such as this one. And *Arrival* is the best candidate for this. Oh, speaking of ABBA albums: *The Visitors* is an interesting experiment in more mature songs, by the way, even though its melodic contents might not be striking enough for it to be included here. But I guess that's a story for another time, kiddies... Number of albums left to review: 629 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 183 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 85 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 110

Sure one of the best albums from ABBA

Crazy complexity for such cheesy songs

There's a small amount of national pride when this album appeared as the album for the day. ABBA sure is a song writing hit machine and that's something that Björn and Benny continued after ABBA. ABBA is pop/disco and the album Arrival has hits like Dancing Queen and Money, Money, Money. It's hard to not like ABBA. It's well written and catchy. They're definitely not my favorite band but their success is understandable. The album Arrival is no exception.

I mean it's ABBA

Insane pop album, 8.5/10

Nice, I'm happy to get an ABBA album with some classics! "Dancing Queen" is overplayed at white weddings the world over, but it's still a good song. My ears are tuned more to "Fernando," thanks to Malcom in the Middle, and tracks like "Money, Money, Money" and "Knowing Me, Knowing You" have made the rounds for decades. I'm not necessarily a fan of ABBA, but I can't deny how solid this one is. Great stuff. Favorite tracks: Fernando, Knowing Me Knowing You, Dancing Queen, Money Money Money, My Love My Life. Album art: The four of them crammed into a little helicopter? Is that thing even gonna make it off the ground? Looks like a bizarre GTA cult. 4/5

Excellent album of course with mega-classic songs, but not in the same league as "Visitors", due to a bit too much filler. Version reviewed = original version without Fernando (5* song) and Happy Hawaii (1* song). It does not make sense at all to add these two songs if you finish the album with "Arrival".

Great! Classic after classic. My first time listening to an ABBA album straight through and I enjoyed it very much.

I've always known about ABBA but never bothered to listen to a full album of theirs. I was honestly not expecting to have as much fun with it as I did! Although it has its share of misses and tracks that get repetitive, it's definitely a hit all around. Some of the slower tracks like "Knowing Me, Knowing You" are where they shine best, for me.

While this isn't my favorite Abba album, this one has some certified bangers. Knowing Me, Knowing You, Money, Money, Money, Dancing Queen, Fernando are all amazing songs. The instrumentation is tight as usual, and the vocals are strong (as usual). Highlights: 2, 4, 5, 6, 11, and 12.

Great album, has so many hits on it. My favourite is Fernando.

I think they are very talented and "Dancing Queen" and a few other songs are quite good as well. I never wanna listen to any of this on my own though, it's just been so overplayed. However, objectively it's a 4 from me.

8/10. I like ABBA, but listening to a whole album of them at once is a bit much to ask, and their songs that aren't hits aren't swell. Still, this album has a good number of familiar songs, and I found I rather liked Tiger as well, and could probably like Happy Hawaii okay if they didn't pronounce Hawai'i "Hawai"

It has just enough really good tracks to not overstay its welcome. I’ll still always contest that when people say “I hate disco” they’re talking about this white person “””disco””” and not the original genre. Or they’re just racist. 8/10

This is TOUGH because normally it would be an instant five but I was distracted also frankly I love Voulez-Vous and Super Trouper so MUCH that this has to get only four stars. I am sorry. Loved all the classics, and my favorite previously unknown was Tiger.

Very good

Great to listen to the whole album and get to know not only the hits, but also more underrated songs. Decent pop songwriting. The bass on \"Happy Hawaii\" was a nice surprise.

This was fun

Excellently produced, interesting arrangements, a bit hokey at times musically and lyrically, but still worth a damn listen. Favorites: Knowing Me, Knowing You and Fernando.

Despite being Scandinavian and having heard the song a thousand times, Dancing Queen is a megabanger. The rest of the songs are bangers

I owned this on vinyl growing up. Not sure where it went.

As much as people hated ABBA at the end of the disco era, this is a fine album with some catchy tunes.

Second listen. I like ABBA a lot, but this is not my favorite album of theirs. If their self-titled album is on here I might give it a 5, but this is just a 4. A lot of the songs are really cheesy for some reason. Also, ABBA songs get worn out for me very easily, which is probably a factor. The 4 is mostly for my two favorites on this one, “Money, Money, Money” and “Fernando”. (I’ve gotten a little tired of those two as well.)

Being a little kid in the late 70s in Australia, you just couldn't avoid hearing this album. It is part of my psyche. You either love or you hate it but you can avoid it.

It’s Abba. It’s catchy and toe tappy and what’s not to love?

who is fernando?

Disco girl, coming through, that girl is you, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh

Definitely an album where the sum is less than its parts. It drags a bit over the 40 minutes but there are high points that make up for it. Pretty sure everyone has heard Dancing Queen before whether its through film & tv, social media or drunken karaoke. Money, Money, Money; and Fernando were the other big hits I knew previously from the Mamma Mia movie and car journeys as a kid. Two out of the big three are great songs (never liked Money much) and it was good revisiting them outside of those contexts. For the unknown, I really liked Knowing Me, Knowing You. A big hit of theirs which I've never listened to before, it caught me by surprise of how good it is. There were a few other tracks that stood out, including When I Kissed the Teacher, Dum Dum Diddle, and Why Did It Have to Be Me?. The rest were servicable but meh.

Great ABBA album.

Welp turns out I like ABBA? Never knew! Enjoyed almost every song. Like disco pop with splashes of orchestra. Great harmonies. Complex but concise.

Objectively probably a 3, but nostalgia hits like a mfer

Reconec que em costa diferenciar els discos d'Abba més enllà dels seus singles d'èxit. 'Arrival' conté ni més ni menys que la joia de la corona, 'Dancing Queen'. També 'Knowing Me Knowing You' i 'Money Money Money'. Com a album track destacat, 'When I Kissed the Teacher' sona genial

It's ABBA, I don't need to write four paragraphs about ABBA because people are born into this world with the innate knowledge of this band and the lyrics of at least 3 of their songs. Huge hits ("Dancing Queen" and "Money Money Money" of course), the less known songs are good as well, even listened to the two bonus tracks ("Fernando" is another classic, "Happy Hawaii" is fine I guess). Gotta be a 4/5, and not just because my own mother and girl friend would kill me for giving this anything lower, but also because it's really damn good music. Fourth paragraph.

Pop. Varios megahits. Un 4.

I'm not the biggest fan of ABBA, but this is a pretty damn good album. "Dancing Queen" of course deserves the legacy it has earned. My other favorite songs are "Arrival" and "Fernando"

Top quality stuff

Hard not to love Abba. The formula for perfect melodies is amazing. Lyrically it can be juvenile in places but the music always makes up for it.

You got some big disco hits here! This album keeps the party going. It’s ABBA being ABBA as expected and I appreciate that. Dancing Queen alone is a 5 star song - but I’d still rather listen to a greatest hits compilation over their actual studio albums. I just want all the hits, that’s all I need from them.

When I Kissed The Teacher, Dancing Queen, Knowing Me, Knowing You, Money, Money, Money - Classics, storytelling is great, great tunes Classic pop rock album, great tunes, incredible instrumentals paired with mellow storytelling and beautiful vocals
