Reviews (page 10 of 14)

First and last track are still bangers, but nothing really grabbed me in between.

You already know im not the biggest fan of rock n roll

Man and you always. Get What You Want gewesen, hätte ich sogar nur zwei Sterne vergeben. Aber das sind schon echt gute Musikstücke

I listened to half of the album

In 2005, I saw a Stones cover band in college and they said that, “back in the day, you were either a Beatles fan or a Stones fan.” As someone who has always prided themselves on a lover of music in general, I called this crazy. However, try as I might, I have never been able to find myself as enthusiastic about Mick, Keith, and the Boyz as I wish I did the Fab 4. When I woke up this morning to find Let It Bleed as my assignment for the day, I was excited to challenge my bias. The record starts off like a rocket with Gimme Shelter, an objectively phenomenal track full of passion and purpose. Unfortunately, after that, it kinds of slogs through song after song that I can only describe as …fine… With lyrics ranging from the overly lascivious to forgettable and dull. The album ends on another classic You Can’t Always Get What You Want which cannot be denied for its impressive arrangement. While it’s technically impressive and nice to listen to, I can’t help but think that this record benefits from first impressions and recency bias. Not much else to share. It’s safe to say that I am whelmed.

Great at the start and end, but if a lull in the middle. Don’t really care for stones albums, singles are usually top quality

Love in vain was my favorite- added it to my drinking beer playlist. 5/10 I could tell it was good (obviously) but it didn’t capture my attention

6/10 The Rolling Stones are a band that I’ve tried to get into a whole bunch of times in the past. I really enjoy blues and the development of 60s and 70s Brit rock, which should make them right up my alley. Unfortunately, they kind of manage to straddle both worlds without ever landing on completely sure footing in either. When they get things right, they can be an incredibly compelling listen, but they can often be an inconsistent band that makes me, as an album listener, unable to completely get on board with their work. This album is another mixed bag of an album from the Stones. Not just from a quality point of view, but stylistically too. None of the first four tracks seems to actually have much of a common thread to them and, after throwing out an all-time classic as the opener, they really struggle to follow it up. There’s so much vibe, an edge of psychedelia and some excellent musicianship across the board in Gimme shelter, but when they drop back to a more traditional Blues and then Country sound for the following tracks, it just doesn’t feel as engaging or convincing as that opener. They do build a little into the second half of the album, but it’s still a fairly disjointed experience and they still don’t feel like they’ve completely decided what they want to be as a band. There are moments of quality scattered across the rest of the tracks, but there was nothing vastly memorable aside from the brilliant bookends of the opener and closer. You Can’t Always Get What You Want is another that uses that Blues base but adds that rocky, psychedelic edge to elevate it and bring it towards the Rolling Stones sound that I’m really looking for from their work. It’s a brilliant way to close the record, but unfortunately what lies between those two magnificent tracks is just too uneven and variable to keep me hooked. Gimme Shelter - An absolute classic to kick us off. Everything about this is great, it’s so atmospheric and vibey, the rhythm has such a great groove to it and the guitar oozes quality. Merry Clayton’s vocal is brilliant and steals the spotlight from Jagger, although they do compliment each other really well. The chorus is such a great hook too. This is a fine example of dragging the most out of what is a fairly routine chord structure and backbeat that just plugs away for the whole tune. They do so much with the work that sits above it, combined with the superb vibe, that it never gets boring. Love In Vain - This crashes down quite significantly from the high of Gimme Shelter. It’s pretty plodding, Jagger’s vocal is quite whiney and it feels super sparse by comparison. There's actually some nice playing on there, particularly from the guitar, but it's just another Stones blues cover that doesn’t particularly do anything to stand out or make it unique. I think it suffers due to its placement on the record, but I’d rather listen to Robert Johnson do it to be honest. Country Honk - A country version of Honky Tonk Women that sounds thin and poorly recorded. It kind of sounds like a barn dance singalong, rather than a rock band. It’s not a terrible song, but it’s not a great version. Meh. Live With Me - This is a bit better, although it’s another that feels stylistically very different. It’s got a decent pace to it and some great playing, particularly from the piano and sax. There’s a decent driving groove behind this and it’s got a good dose of swagger and feel to it, and it definitely got me tapping my toe. It’s this kind of thing that works really well as a solid album track. There’s nothing overly hooky about it, but it has a decent vibe and enough grit and drive to engage the ear. Let It Bleed - It feels like we’re getting back into the swing of things now. This has that laid back cool but with enough drive in there to keep things moving along nicely. The chorus is really good here in particular, but it’s all good really. The band sounds like they're having great fun and every member gets to show their stuff. There’s a load of little riffs, licks and solos in there that add depth and flavour to the track. Midnight Rambler - Back to something more basic and bluesy. The groove is decent enough, but it doesn’t really offer anything vastly interesting in terms of development or variety for the first couple of minutes. They do change the tempo and emphasis about half way through, which is a welcome change, before it then drifts away to almost nothing. What follows is just a bit disjointed. There’s probably something in there, but it all feels a bit too dragged out and there’s nothing that particularly grabbed hold of me. You Got The Silver - I quite like the vibe of this one. It’s smooth, and the interwoven guitar and organ lines are really nice. Jagger’s vocal delivery works really well here too. This feels like one of those tracks where all of the band get to have their moment of fun and focus. Everything dances around everything else really nicely and the general feel is really good. Monkey Man - There’s a nice bouncing groove to this, particularly from the main guitar riff. It’s another where they’ve got the vibe right. It doesn’t necessarily bring a vast amount of range or variation to things, but it’s carried enough on that vibe that it doesn’t matter too much. The piano and guitar playing are great, although Jagger’s vocal gets a bit distracting later on. Not the most memorable of tracks, but not bad either. You Can't Always Get What You Want - Another classic to close things. It’s a really slow build, but that gives great impact when the beat does kick in. It’s got a great syncopated feel between the guitars and drums which gives it a solid, toe tapping groove. The main vocal hook is great and the build from the verse to chorus is really nice. There’s some beautiful playing on this track from the whole band, but guitar and organ stand out for me. Jagger’s swagger here is brilliant too. The bookends of this album are just so good that they elevate the rest of the album. What a great way to close.

3 great songs. Very Americana

Not a big fan but this had some decent tracks

Tre gode sanger: gimme shelter, live with me og monkey man. Resten Rolling Stones som spiller hvit blues

Easy listen! Standout songs to me were Live With Me, Gimme Shelter and Midnight Rambler. 6/10

Nice album, but not exactly my kind of music to listen to. I wasn't really interested until the last 4 songs. Still a decent album though. Songs I like: Monkey Man, You Can't Always Get What You Want.

It was good, though twangier than I was expecting. A few better standouts (Gimme Shelter, Let it Bleed, Monkey Man, You Can’t Always Get What You Want) but largely just plain good.

I'm hoping this is 1001's version of eating your veggies because at this point I've seen just about every Stones album show up in my assignments this early in the project, and here's the thing...they just aren't for me. They never have been. As far as Let it Bleed, it's 2 of their best hits bookending a lot of mediocre blues and country filler in the middle. It's all just fine, but I'm begging the algorithm, please, no more Rolling Stones!!

It’s not my usual style but it was still good. I’ve heard a few songs from this album before but haven’t listened to the whole thing. I would rate it probably. 6/10

Start and finish tracks are obvious classics. Middle is ok, a bit Dylan-esque (which isn't a good thing), but more enjoyable than anything Dylan has ever put out. Solid middle of the road 3 of 5.

As someone who has had potentially embarrassingly little exposure to their music, Gimme Shelter was incredible and made me wonder what I had missed. And then the rest of the album was completely different.

Really strong songs with not great filler

It surprised me with the country and theatrics. Midnight Rambler felt like Dr. Frank-N-Furter would sing it. Easy listening.

I've found that with these old ass bands there's typically a good reason you've heard the songs you've heard and not heard their other stuff. The bookends of this album are solid but the middle is so forgettable

Rock like this is so groovy and catchy I really enjoyed it. The guitars are showy and vocals are pretty good. Great album.

Never really got the stones, after two listens of this still don't. Needs to either be more bluesy or heavier. Around a high 6 to 7

Fun! Not revolutionary except for the Main One, kinda honky tonky

One or two good songs but it's not really iconic enough to be listed on this platform

classic

Gimme Shelter: Such a good opener to album. The little ooohs at the beginning are so good with the buildup. End of world anthem. Please remind to check out work/ music that has Merry Clayton on it 🤓 Her voice and Mick’s go so well together. It’s just a shoot away is something I will probably remember the most out of this song. Love in vain: I’m sorry but being a fan of Robert Johnson 😔, I was okay with this reinterpretation. I like the instrumental and how I can imagine going to a bar with a buddy after this situation happening. Going into detail, with a hint of regret and sadness. Country Honk: I like the fiddle 🤓👍 Live with me: The late 60s and early 70s were a different time buddy. What an odd way of asking your girlfriend to come live with you. Bobby keys on the sax and Keith Richards on the bass🙀 I like the mention of Crazy Horse, I didn’t know it started in the 50s. I like the lyric: they got earphone heads. But I’m not an hippie hater. Overall a well composed song, a problematic fav I suppose. Let it bleed : I really like the drums and bass towards the bridge to the end. Midnight Rambler: A harmonica solo! 🤯The tempo change and drums change. I really enjoy the storytelling in the lyrics. Probably my fav song so far.

Another solid rock album. They influenced a lot of what came after, so don't want to diminish any of that, but for me it's always been The Beatles over the Stones

Some standout songs especially give me shelter. Quite a country vibe and overall a v pleasant listen. I do think Rolling stones were overshadowed by some contemporaries, but enjoyed it

I’ve never really listened to the Rolling Stones and honestly didn’t expect them to be so folky/bluesy/country as this. I have no doubt that I’d see a lot more range if I listened to their whole repertoire but this didn’t really grab me. Gimme Shelter was a banger to start but it kind of lost me after that. Would have liked more of that energy to continue.

Rolling Stones #2. No surprise there, we're definitely due given the 50 Beatleses we started with. The cover is nice, crisp and unique. Shoutout to them for actually having a "the" in their name. Somehow I missed that Puddle of Mudd covered 'Gimme Shelter'! That song sure is in a lot of media. 'Country Honk' would be a good name for a duck. Highlights: 'You Got the Silver', 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'

Tekst is mwhua. Goede gitaarrifjes. De blazers zijn ook erg nice! En love voor ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’, dat koor blijft fantastisch! Betoverend zelfs

What in the country folk

This project is making me like the Stones which is honestly pissing me off

banger

The Rolling Stones have nothing to prove to me. They have produced some great music in their day. When they are on, they are on. And like most of their other albums, they usually create solid single tracks with some fairly forgettable tracks. For me, Gimme Shelter and Monkey Man make the album. I will give honorable mention to You Can’t Always Get What You Want, but even that track has worn out to me over the years. And it didn’t rebound to me listening to the album straight through.

Love the album cover, Country and rock mixture Ranked in terms of fav to least song Midnight rambler You can’t always get you want Monkey man You got the silver Let it bleed Live with me Love in vain(Bob Dylan vibes) Gimme shelter Country honk

I mean first and last are legendary. The rest is forgettable to gross. How do you rate that?

Okay, but a Little Bit monoton

A very experimental album with a fairly consistent genre. Favourite track: Let it Bleed

thought i’d not like it but i did pop puss to quite a few songs. the more upbeat moments were my favs even tho i really liked love in vain. guitars sounded amazing. songs saved: 5/9 fav song: gimme shelter

This album has big "bookend" tracks: Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want. Along the way there's also a country'ish version of Country Honk. The rest is more generic but has the same bluesy rock feel. Maybe my favorite Stones album so far, borderline 4.

Three big singles and a lot of solid, if forgettable, filler. One could probably argue this is a 4, but this list has given me a little Stones Fatigue.

Good but not really my taste

Gimme shelter do g a lot of heavy lifting. Favourite song: Gimme Shelter

Listened: in car, washing up Paused

Not very catchy songs but still nice and relaxed

No sellanen blues ja country vibainen levy rollareilta tällä kertaa. Eihän tämä huono missään nimessä

It’s good. It’s just nothing that would surprise me with quality or creativity

alright

i think it's a solid album, some songs really stand out agaist the others, but overall i had a good time.

This wasn't the best Stones album, imo. They just don't pull off the fake honky tonk that they were going for in a couple of the songs. Far from the worst album in this list, though. Gimme Shelter and Let It Bleed are great, though.

very old.. country esque that i am not the biggest fan of but it is not a bad album at all

Personally 3, I guess objectively a 5 for what it was when it came out

I'd say it's the best Rolling Stones album we've had so far. Starts and ends with 2 absolute classics, and most of what's in between is quite good, too. My biggest issue is Jagger's voice just doesn't do it for me on the bluesier songs. This one would be a 3 1/2 if we could give halves.

I seem to always compare the Rolling Stones with The Beatles. But I think they have and will be compared for all eternity. I know and enjoy all the hit songs from the Stones, but I have never listened to their full studio albums. I know The Beatles albums by heart. But when it comes to the full Stones albums, the rest of their stuff is just filler to me.

Gimme Shelter gets the album a 3 even if it was the only song on it. Everything between it and You can't always get what you want are filler, but still worth a once over.

GOING IN: No strong feelings LISTENED WHILE: Morning on the treadmill FAMILIARITY: Know a few songs SKIP RATE: Played it straight through REPLAY VALUE: Might come back to it DISCOVERY CURVE: Got it by the end ALBUM ARC: Warmed up nicely VERDICT: Fair enough BODY'S VERDICT: Toe tapping situation FAVOURITE TRACK: ...Duh! ALBUM RATING: 3

- Can't Always Get What You Want is one of my favorite songs of all time - Have never listened to this one all the way through, so excited - Oh wow the connection between "following her to the station" in Love is Vain and then "seeing her at the station" in CAGWYW - so much more twang than i would've anticipated! - excellent last song choice - was also subbing a very chaotic and noisy class and listened to this album on my breaks, so my opinion may be slightly impacted by that :P 3.5/5

Gimme Shelter - 5/5 Love In Vain - 3.5/5 Country Honk - 2.5/5 Live With Me - 3.5/5 Let It Bleed - 3/5 Midnight Rambler - 3.5/5 You Got the Silver - 3.5/5 Monkey Man - 3.5/5 You Can't Always Get What You Want - 4/5 This album is carried by its opening and closing tracks. Gimme Shelter is a phenomenal opener, which is kind of a let down as the rest of the album is kinda just meh. Sure, there is a decent variety of musical styles but none of them really stand out against one another. 2 stars for Gimme Shelter and You Can't... alone. Overall: 3.5/5 Favorites: Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get What You Want

Decent 3,5

This album has Gimme Shelter. And, yes, I'm going to say it. It's moody, overused and just not that great. I know enough about Keith Richards to see the vibe he was going for on this. It's open tuned and bluesy. To his credit, as the one guy playing guitar, he really chews the scenery (or whatever the musical equivalent is). In fact, his singing on that Silver song is probably the standout for me. The acoustic ones are bluesy and boring. When it's full band, the drumming is a highlight. Can't always get what you want is overrated too. 3 stars.

already listened

Nice album and a few classic songs to enjoy. 5th Stones album and i'm sure 3 or 4 would have sufficed.

3.5. Liked it a lot, I’m surprised!

Some songs just go on too long.

a couple of great tunes, but also plenty of country and blues stuff, that I don't particularly fancy.

Can not let myself give this album anything less than 3 solely because Gimme Shelter. One of the greatest songs of all time and my go-to hype song whenever I get aux before a game. However, holy this album was not as strong as I thought it'd be. I've seen the cover on best-of-all-time lists, but how? Gimme Shelter is phenomenal, You Can't Always Get What You Want is solid enough, and...? What else? There's nothing else. MAYBE Midnight Rambler and Monkey Man? MAYBE. After an incredible start in Gimme Shelter it goes into sloppy county territory? Weird.

Meh.two great songs.

Aerosmith is not Rolling Stones. This was a good album.

I found this album to be fairly generic. Not bad but not great.

I'm always surprised with how the Rolling Stones sound. This is more country blues than rock, and I always thought they were pure rock. They started recording this album, and then fired one of the founders of the band, Brian Jones, who promptly became a member of the 27 club and died immediately after after getting drunk and diving into a pool. Just crazy to think that one of the founders of the band died, and then the band kept performing for the next 50 years. 50 years! I dunno. The music is there, sounds great, but the style is not for me. I get why people like it, but it's not my style. Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are the best songs on there, and the others are just too country for me. Stones are just so weird to me. They're a great band......but something feels missing to me. I think in my head, I have them built up as this legendary rock that changed everything.....and the music just doesn't live up to what they are in my head. Unfair to them because it's good music, i'm just left feeling unfulfilled.

i liked it

Decent, if a bit noisy and juvenile

Å andra sidan "Live with me" och "You got the silver är dussinlåtar och ren utfyllnad.

Smärtsamt tydligt i Love in Vain och i ylandet i Gimme Shelter.

This is a pretty solid rock album. There are a couple parts where it creeps too close to country for my taste, but still a fun album. I mean it has the iconic song "You Can't Always Get What You Want"!!!

One of the better Rolling Stones records, bookended by two of the band's best songs. I like the silly-random artwork. What even is going on there? Key tracks: Gimme Shelter You Can't Always Get What You Want

Good songs but I wasn't really immersed; of its time.

78/100 A bunch of solid songs and a couple bangers It’s just that as an album there’s not a lot that makes it stand out Not a big concept and no huge themes that I could big up on first listen

Good ol’ classic.

Great tunes at the start and end....nothing outstanding in the middle but nothing offensive.

2 good songs bookmarked by mediocrity

Classic Stones record with some really nice bangers (Gimme Shelter, Monkey Man, You Can't Always Get What You Want) and some nice filling material. Don't get me wrong - it's a good album but the Stones could do better.

Fantastic bookends to this album, but not my favorite by them. Still pretty darn good though.

5.8/10

Rating: 6/10 I really don’t care much for the Stones, and after Gimme Shelter, the album doesn’t do a lot for me until the second half comes along to pick it up more

not an attentive listen-through 6.2/10

Something I could listen to again without hating myself. 6 stones rolling down the street out of 10 lizard wizards

\_______/

Did I really listen to this just because it ends with You Can't Always Get What You Want? Stripped of its notoriety, it's that 1969 classic American rock sound. If you want that, this is a great album. Otherwise I find the bulk of it forgettable. 2.7/5

I’m not a stones guy really

A wildly uneven record with weird sequencing, *Let It Bleed* mixes some of the Stones' most adventurous and forward-looking songs with undistinguished genre exercises. The album kicks off with the tense and potent "Gimme Shelter" but then immediately downshifts into a (mildly out-of-tune) version of Robert Johnson's "Love In Vain". The string of loose and tossed-off songs that close out side one don't bode well, either. Flip the record over, then in comes "Midnight Rambler", "Monkey Man" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" to save the party (interrupted only by the inessential "You Got The Silver"). All of these songs rank with the band's best work, including the sometimes-overlooked "Monkey Man" (with its terrific intro). One can only wish that the entire record had gone in this direction rather than including so many throwback-sounding tunes.

Sleasy af and lacking depth but a decently structured album with a fair few bangers. Although I feel the Rolling Stones have aged very poorly, they have it down by this point. The wrongun in me kinda likes it.

tbf, I wouldn't actively turn it off - and there's some nostalgia here I can't escape

Sounds great and a couple of classic songs.

The age old question, are you a stones or Beatles fan and I’m firmly in the latter. This album does have some classics on it with some other good songs but besides that the rest is perfectly average

Overrated

Interesting stuff. In my unusual position - as someone who listens to a bunch of 60s albums regularly but has never listened to a stones record through - this was really interesting. I knew that they were heavily blues influenced, but I didn't realise that outside of the singles and well known tracks, a record like this would be quite heavy in acoustic blues jams. It makes the blues influence on their rockier stuff feel more pronounced. The famous tracks are very strong. Gimme shelter is really fantastic. I'm so familiar with pub covers of honky tonk women that the original feels alien. The album doesn't flow like a Beatles record for me (but what does!)

#127 - it's ok but not remarkable

Classic hamburger album. Amazing buns, but the patty is so undercooked a skilled vet might still save it.

As a piece of music it’s alright to listen to. Nothing crazy. I like Mick’s voice but his fake American accent is annoying, especially when he’s quite an eloquent bloke when he’s talking.

Overall I liked more songs than I disliked ok this album and added a few to my library. It’s not an album I’d choose to listen to all the way through though as there were several songs I would skip.

Ok. Maybe I’m just tired of the Rolling Stones Albums by now but this just felt decent and not much else. 3 stars

I need the full recording of Merry Clayton’s backing vocals on Gimme Shelter immediately

Did not enjoy this save for Gimme Shelter. Boring album right up until the end again.

Liked it a lot, will probably listen again, would give 3.5

This is the only Arcade Fire album I have in my collection

I feel a lot of nostalgia for this album. After learning more about the making of the opening track, I also feel a lot of emotion and my experience of it is irrevocably changed (not for the better). It’s hard for me to judge this one on purely musical terms. Some tracks are great, others are just fine. My rating on this could swing wildly from day to day, so today I’m putting it in the middle.

Another good album by the Stones. Some great tracks on here, with a nice variety of styles.

A good album but never a fan of Mick Jagger’s vocals

Very strong opening and very strong ending, but the middle was, mostly, just okay. I think that all The Rolling Stones albums I've received on this generator so far have been pretty good. They just aren't outstanding or exceptional in my opinion.

Fav Song: Monkey Man

Gimme shelter may be the finest rock song ever

It was... fine... Cant' Always Get What You Want and the opening track were the two best ones

2 good songs on it, the rest is ok

Extremt stark trea tack vare Gimme Shelter

I feel like other than Gimmie Shelter, which is probably one of the most iconic and great songs by The Rolling Stones, the rest of the album is really lackluster and boring. I never really think to much about The Rolling Stones or Mick Jagger, just never was a big fan of the band. While they have some great songs, this album and most of all their catalog is really bland. It just feels as though that after Gimmie Shelter, all of it is just filler and fluff that is unnecessary. While an iconic title, it is just something I didn't really care for. Favorite Tracks: Gimmie Shelter, Let It Bleed, Monkey Man Rating: 3/5

Many songs on this album sound a lot like folk/country, which is not my cup of tea. A couple of great hits though!

I liked this more than I thought I would... maybe I like the Stones more than I think I do?

Rock, Bluesrock, 1969 -> 3

I was excited having this pop up in the morning. But somehow it turns out that I like their sound on live performances much more than on their studio recordings. favourite: "Gimme Shelter", "Midnight Rambler", "You Can't Always Get What you Want" worst: "Love In Vain", "Monkey Man"

There are no good Rolling Stones albums, only good Rolling Stones singles. Also, in my experience, there is never more than 3 good singles on any Rolling Stones album. Do yourself a favor and download the 2 singles from this one, and consider listening to "Monkey Man" with its creative opening on the vibe and try to ignore the shit lyrics. You can safely ignore the rest. Save yourself from their horrid interpretations of honky tonk, country rock, and blues. I am giving LET IT BLEED three stars solely based on the quality of "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" and nothing else.

The Rolling Stones seem to me to have just two modes: 1. Great songs, musically and lyrically, interesting AND 2. Crappy bar band trying to play blues and honkytonk in American dive bars. Each album has 2, possibly 3 songs that are just great and the rest are usually skippable. Let It Bleed might be the best (worst?) example of this. The first and last songs are fantastic. And that's not just nostalgia for me as I never really listened to much of the Stones. Just not my bag. Monkey Man is pretty good - I actually love the terrible way Mick enunciates Monkeeeygghhr. This is my.. 4th Stones album on this list and it's the same thing every time. Guys, drop the whole American blues honkytonk crap. It doesn't work! Hard to score this because most of it sucks, but those good bits are sooo good. I guess a 3 will have to suffice.

This is a miss. This album does have quite a cool unique sound to it, but I can't seem to get into it. Perhaps it's the vocals, they are to be frank quite strange. I was going to listen to Sticky Fingers but haven't gotten around to it, perhaps it's just this album I don't like. I think I just don't like albums that have titles that start with "Let It..." Conclusion: Album has a cool vibe to it, but I just can't get into it.

Ciekawe dość, ale nie mój gust rocka

Oh man. Would you hate me if I said I only really enjoyed 3 songs on this album?? This is the first of many Stones albums I’ve heard so far, the second highest rated Stones album on the website, and I’m going to give it a 3/5. I’m always hearing that you have to pick either The Beatles or The Rolling Stones as the best band of all time, and it may be blasphemous to say this, but I’ve already rolled Revolver, and I gave that a 5, easily. Now, listen, “Gimme Shelter” may be in the Top 10 for best songs ever. It’s an absolute achievement of music and should be acknowledged as such. Watch both the documentary of the same name, as well as the documentary 20 Feet from Stardom if you want a really cool history lesson on it. The background vocalist alone sends a shiver up my spine, and the sick beat mixed with Mick belting one out really gave me hope that I was about to listen to the best fucking album of all time if it could even remotely match up to the sheer presence of this opening song. It single handedly gives this album a high rating in my book. It’s so good that I kind of want to go back and rate the top song of each album in this book and rank them separately. It would be pretty hard to beat. “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” is another classic, that’s the second song I enjoyed. I was unfamiliar with “Monkey Man” but that one was also deeply enjoyable. So, 3/9 songs is, eh, not great, but I didn’t outright dislike the others, so a 3 is very fair. That being said, every other song on the album is just filler that ranges from just fine to utterly boring filler. A lot of them are filler. After the brilliance of “Gimme Shelter”, I was pretty disappointed with the rest of the album, and man does it absolutely hurt every fiber of my being typing that out. Do they have a more solid album from top to bottom, or am I going to ultimately side with team Beatles? Time will tell.

Some highs and low. Not the biggest stones fan so it either hits or it doesn't. This one had two bigger songs bookending so it was fine.

čista trojka

enjoyable

Honky tonk gonna tonk

You can't always get what you want is a bad song. Rest is fine!

Has some great tracks on it but drags in some places

Gimme Shelter is the banger to start things off. It rocks on from there with some good ones from the Stones catalogue. But why so country in places, Mick? Listened before? Y Saved tracks? Y Favorite tracks? Gimme Shelter, Let It Bleed, You Can't Always Get What You Want, ⭐⭐⭐ Loved it. Saved some tracks

Best Rolling Stones album I've had thus far. That's kind of a low bar. You Can't Always Get What You Want is a classic, though. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Gimme Shelter, Midnight Rambler, You Can't Always Get What You Want ⭐⭐⭐: Liked it. Saved some tracks.

I do not like the Rolling Stones. I do like "you can't always get what you want." Therefore this album was mid 7.89/10; 3/5.

6,5/10 Highlights: Gimme Shelter Monkey Man YCAGWYW

Strana quella country

well, it’s the Rolling Stones.

Obviously a classic album though I have never liked the Stones greatly. Something everyone should listen to at one time in their lives at least

H: an ok album, very mid. There are sounds ranging from rock to country. Not very cohesive. 5/10 H fav song: You Can’t Always Get What You Want Z: this gave me a much broader understanding of the Stones’s sound. Certainly a wider variety than I thought previously— blues, country, folk, and rock all rounded out the album. Mick Jagger’s voice doesn’t fit throughout the album as much as it does on the “classic” Stones sound I know. Lacks cohesion. 6.5/10 Z fav song: You Can’t Always Get What You Want

Didn’t love this. A few tracks I dug, but I felt were too long. The rest just feels kind of boring musically.

Suprisingly funky. The album in its entirety is 'ok' but a few songs stood out. The mastering was interesting, not crazy detailed but there was solid imaging and spaciousness.

This one feels hard to rate. The opening and closing tracks are two of the best songs of all time. But everything in between is way too country bluesy for me. I just don’t like that kind of sound.

It's good to hear the Stones. This is kind of an odd collection.

Pretty chilled album, like the country influences. Not super grabbed by it but it'll do.

Best songs: - Gimme Shelter - Monkey Man - You Can’t Always Get What You Want The rest is just meh to me

Like the artwork suggests, this sandwich has a lot of filler. It's a good job the start and end are classics.

Started off strong and then didn't keep it going at all minus one track. Nothing bad though just underwhelming.

Monkey Man - ♡

The only Stones era I've ever really cared about was when they were trying to be the Beatles in the mid-60s. Most these albums that get held up as their best are just two good-to-great songs with a bunch of bluesy country rock filler.

“Gimme Shelter” is one of not just my favorite Stones songs, but one of my favorite songs in general…so to say I was primed for this album is an understatement. After that phenomenal opening comes Love in Vain, which produced such a negative physical response that I had to check and make sure that I was still listening to the correct album. Things improved from there.

# Playlist Track - Gimme Shelter # Notes - A mediocre album with an incredible opening. - Midnight Rambler and Love in Vain deserve -1 star each, easily.

A classic album with a couple very good songs and mostly honkey-Tony filler

iconic so i feel bad saying anything negative, but my personal thoughts are that i don’t love bluegrass so those songs are rated lower. love their rock songs tho and their lyrics are good!!

Some classics but overall not my jam.

Love it!

First time actually listening to this album. Much more bluesy than I expected.

Bookends are fantastic, the rest mushes together. 3.5

This was cool, I won't listen to it again, but I enjoyed it. 3.5

Imagine an egg sandwich made with warm freshly baked crusty bread. Egg isn't my favourite filling, but I'll eat it. And truth be told I'd rather have the gorgeous warm crusty bread on is own with a bit of butter. This album is that sandwich. 2 great tracks bookending a passable filling. (And I'm so glad they redeveloped this original version of Honky Tonk Woman)

I sort of liked it. You Can't Always Get What You Want is a really good song. Sticky Fingers was my first full Stones album, and I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did that one.

- Good music but the lyrics rambled a bit. It was alright but I wouldn't listen again. They have been very influencial and some of their earlier stuff is better than the country that this album is.

I didn’t really «accrocher» since it’s not really the type of music I like, since it’s a bit boring…

Some good tracks

Good album yes. Great? Live would be great but as canned music… perhaps less so. Undeniably great songs on the album though. 3.4….

The album has two bangers on it, the opening Gimme Shelter and the closing You Can't Always Get What You Want. The rest of them is also fun but there are quite a lot of fillers, and country-blues by them isn't really my thing. I have always preferred a Best of/Greatest Hits by the Rolling Stones, instead of studio albums...

When are we going to admin that Gimme Shelter is just ok?

Never cared all that much for the Rolling Stones.

Consistency solid Not my usual taste but a few songs here I find are perfect when I’m on a nice walk or drive Favorites: Live with Me, You Can’t Always Get What You Want

I guess when your album is sandwiched between two undeniable classics you can put shittier Bob Dylan songs in the middle

2.5 stars My experience with Stones albums, as I mentioned on Sticky Fingers, is that they kill it with a couple of great singles and then load up with filler. This was during their era of doing a lot of country music, including Jagger’s fake Southern twang, and it’s not great. That being said, the first and last songs “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always get what you want” are 5/5 stone cold classics. They are some of the Stones most overplayed songs but they are fantastic. They do all of the heavy lifting on this record. The countryish songs aren’t terrible- but it’s not interesting enough to make me want to sit through the album. And the other non-country more straight ahead rock n roll isn’t memorable. The Stones are a greatest hits band. Any of their greatest hits albums would be in the top of all times. But their albums, full Long Plays, are not their strength.

I've never been big on the Stones. I'm only really familiar with their hits. This was a pretty good album! It's got some classics like "Gimme Shelter" "Country Honk" and "You Cant Always Get What You Want." There's something about the Stones though that keep me from "loving" them. Maybe its Mick's voice. All the instruments are pretty good. But outside of the hits I'm probably not going to listen to too much of this again. 3/5

This isn't bad. I think I just don't love the Stones. 3

You can definitely tell how much the Rolling Stones were influenced by the American Blues. Also I didn't relize that the song Honky Tonk woman started out on this album as a more country blues song. The beginning of great things to come in their career.

My feelings about music like this are complicated

Wildly inconsistent album. It has some absolute gems, like Gimme Shelter and Live With Me. It has some average songs, like the last two tracks. It has some proper garbage too, like Country Honk. It even has some songs that start shit, but get better at the end, like Midnight Rambler. Very odd

Honestly not a fan of the country Stones songs. Even country honk is better in its blues version. Absolutely love gimme shelter and monkey man, however.

Oh god, it’s The Beatles for me all over again… Like, this is good, right? But I don’t really see anything impressive about this. It’s just like The Beatles: A couple of songs on the album are fantastic, and the other are kinda whatever. This is a good album, but it’s way too simple and outdated by today’s standards. A fun listen but nothing out of the ordinary. 7/10

6/10 Best Songs: the singles Least best: the rest

Ganz gut

Interesting change of sound for me, didnt finish it but wasnt disappointed

Great album

It's Rolling Stones at it's finest. It's either you love their style or not and in this instance I just found it fine. Nothing really jumped out and forced you to remember the album.

Pretty listenable blues rock w some bops

I can take or leave Rolling Stones music. Just not into that blues heavy rock style of theirs... Is it weird my favorite song on the album, the one that really got me to listen, was the one that wasn't sung by Mick Jagger "You Got the Silver." Am I crazy or is Keith Richards a better singer than Mick Jagger?

6.5/10

Not a great fan of the stones

Liked it more than most of the other stones albums ive heard on the list, gotta agree with a lot of other reviews ive seen that say the first and last track are the best of the album, the best rolling stones album is most likely a greatest hits album

It was good, but I won’t listen again. Standout track: - Gimme Shelter: 5/5 - this one however, I could listen to on repeat

Good listen, but I think they have better albums

The first and last songs are amazing. The middle is just meh

Never heard this Country Honk version of Honky Tonk Women. But the album at least starts and ends with the two best songs.

Pretty decent I guess. Mono for a few of the songs is a bit annoying on headphones. 3/5

Great opener, but it fails to deliver. The album has 4 really really great songs. The rest is not even mediocre. Favorite song: gimme shelter.

No way this is the album that gave us Gimme Shelter. First and last tracks are great, everything in between was fine, but it's sub par honky tonk which is just a wild theme after playing such an opening banger. - mitona Pleasantly surprised with this album. Really great listen for the holiday today. Surprised it released in December! - spacecrabs

Very easy listening but not my favourite. I liked monkey man and had never heard it before. 3.5

Pretty good album, nothing worth noting really

Not bad. A couple great classics in this album. But overall a bit lackluster for me.

Pretty good album. Some enjoyable songs on here. Even the songs that aren't hits were pretty good.

Early blues-orientated Stones.

Two mega hits and a bunch of half-hearted blues noodling

Hey babe, what's in your eyes? I saw them flashing like airplane lights You fill my cup, babe, that's for sure I must come back for a little more

It’s not a bad album but it’s not my fav Rolling Stones by any means. I prefer the more blues rock over the country influence.

"Let It Bleed" is an interesting album in that it is bookended by two incredible, legendary Rolling Stones songs -- "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" are two of the most famous Rolling Stones songs ever, and even some of the most famous classic rock songs ever. And yet, the internal content of the album is pretty lackluster (in my opinion). It all kind of blurs together and doesn't really excite. I've always been kind of partial to the album cover, though; it is very eye-catching. Who doesn't love cake?

You Can't Always Get What You Want and Gimme Shelter are both fantastic songs, but the rest are kinda forgettable.

Good for the hits, the other songs were very forgettable 3/5

I once again was not impressed with this Rolling Stones album. Am I missing something? These guys have a magazine named after them.

Blues rock is not for me from this band. At least it finished with a jam.

Didn't think much of this one to be honest I say this everytime but I'm not really a Stones fan anyway. I honestly don't really care for the 2 big singles on the album. I actually preferred some of the other songs, but it wasn't great on the whole. Got bored in parts 3 ⭐️

Bookended by two of the greatest songs of all time and some alright blues/country in the middle.

Sarcastic and bluesy, somewhat dated sounding. Love in Vain is a slow but solid tune, the only one I'd return to.

Gimme Shelter - catchy Midnight Rambler - blues vibe to it

Quality

I’d love to hear a great top to bottom Rolling Stones album, but I’m beginning to lose hope that such a thing exists. The standouts are the 2 hits, no surprise there. I gotta say, when they do blues or country it feels like more of a pastiche than an earnest attempt.

I get that Mick Jagger was supposedly a sex symbol of the era, but I feel like there were definitely a few songs on here that substituted sexuality for actually making a decent song. "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" are classics, but I also enjoyed Midnight Rambler.

Classic

This album has, as they say, a couple songs. The rest is surprisingly undercooked, almost unserious.

Some bangers, some filler; mostly misogyny.

This is only my second Stones album, the first being Some Girls, and I can tell this is an earlier album. The sound that I'm accustomed to is here, albeit with more blues and less rock. 'Gimme Shelter' and 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' were the only tracks I went into knowing, and they act as a great sandwich for the album. Unfortunately, this sandwich's best feature is the bread. What follows is ... good, don't get me wrong, but a little same-y for my liking. 'Love in Vain' and 'Country Honk,' the two songs immediately following, blended together. 'On Midnight Ramble,' Mick Jagger and Jones's harmonica deliver on the song's promise. The title track was good too, but nothing to write home about. I did quite like 'Monkey Man.' Overall a 3/5. Not a disappointment, but only because the album art has repulsed and confused me for so long, I had no expectations for the record.

Country rock Too country

same as beggars request. like they knew they'd last forever so didn't need to innovate

2 great songs (opener and closer), but the rest didn't stand out for me

“Gimme Shelter” is a good song. The other hits on here are okay. The rest is just more Rolling Stones’ slop.

Too southern-ish rock for my taste. Cool overall.

This is just fine nothing crazy

Gimme Shelter esch no geil. De rächt esch halt meischtens chli Country Musig. Ned bsonders schlächt aber au ned wörk e Banger.

I have heard some of the hits before, but in general I thought the album was more of the same? I must not be a huge Rolling Stones fan or I misunderstand their hype, because it wasn't bad, but not exceptional to me

Decent

I dont love their honky tonk stuff. Two good songs on the album to open and close the album, but the rest didn't keep my attention. Felt dragging on.

This album has its highs, especially with "You Can't Always Get What You Want," which I really enjoyed. But then there's "Honky Tonk Women," which feels weird and out of place. Overall, it’s a decent album, but it doesn’t quite live up to the hype for me.

Was ready to be a little disappointed, then got blasted by one of their best hits! Then slowly got disappointed by the rest... But wait! Their other best hit is on here too!!

i mean, yea i see u (beatles will always be better)

Refreshing change. I liked Mick Jagger's performance on Monkey Man. Very authentic. I liked the first and last songs especially. Mostly the last I think.

Pretty alright rock. I like the use of violin, flute and saxophone to spice it up a little

My dad loves this band. I took some of the records he got before he got rid of it. It's never been able to get into it, due to the very prominent blues in it. That being said, the album was alright. Way better than Little Richard. 3/5 (but higher than LR)

I’ve always liked The Rolling Stones but never loved them. This is a good album, 2 giant hits that bookend an ok rest of the album. I never wanted to just skip the songs but I didn’t feel like I needed to go to them once they were done

super country for rolling stones. also honky tonk woman is another song??

Great opening track in Gimme Shelter, and fantastic closer You Can’t Always get What You Want, songs in between are good, but not great. The Rolling Stones have better albums, I’m still glad I listened to this one.

It's alright. I've never really been a huge Rolling Stones fan. I like their hits but the rest don't really do much for me.

I love classic rock but these guys for some reason have always rubbed me the wrong way.

Highlights: Gimme shelter Live with me Midnight rambler 7/10

Getting this the day after "Exile on Main Street" was weird. Hearing this right after that one, it really struck home how when the Stones weren't trying so hard to be the kind of band Alan Lomax recorded, they had some good songs. These were, invariably, the least American blues/roots influenced - "Gimme Shelter," "Monkey Man" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" - that really makes me wonder why they spent so much time chasing the blues and not working toward their strengths.

The last song is fabulous but some of the tracks more in the middle are not great.

Meh, idk not my taste

Never a big fan of the stones, but this album is iconic.

A uhhhh classic rock album. Has some heaters on it 5/10 Favorite track: GIMME SHELTER

2.5ish

You Can't Always get What You Want

Back to back stones albums. Ouch. That being said, this was infinitely better than Exile on Main Street

I never cared for the Stones much, at least in singles form. I still don't, but I think this is a more compelling album than as single tracks...a concept form a more civilized age. Doesn't rock as hard as the Who, but sometimes more complex. Favorite track: Monkey Man

Expect more from the stones

-seems like this was a good album to lose my Rolling Stones virginity to. it was only a matter of time before I got around to it -all in all it was about what I expected.. it’s not the type of music I would usually listen to in my free time but I still liked it! would probably like to listen to it again sometime -Favorites are Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want

I like the Stones just fine, but I’m a little surprised at how boring I’ve found most of their albums on the list. Just kind of feels like a lot of their songs move slower than they should or something. I don’t know. Let it Bleed is good, it’s bookended by two of their bigger hits, but getting from point A to point B was not nearly as interesting as you would hope from a record by one of the biggest bands in the world.

Two great songs booked end some honky tonk sounding much of the same, couldn't really tell when one song finished and one started. 3/5

A classic and easy to listen to, personally carried by it's opener and closer

Best songs were the first and last as everyone else says, this one definitely has weaker deep cuts than the other stones albums on the generator, live with me and the title track I did like as well though. However, the other ones didn’t really do it for me all too much especially country tonk, I liked the experiments with different types of music in the songs though. Overall 6/10.

It's fine and all and they're super talented but I can't give the stones more than a 3

Three bangers, then a bunch of semi-country filler

I used to love the Stones. I hadn’t listened to this album in a long time or any Stones albums for that matter, just the odd song here or there. The music is pretty good, but Mick’s voice is atrocious. Especially on the song “Country Tonk”, it’s fucking embarrassing trying to sound country , I guess he’s trying to be funny. I didn’t laugh.

I love the Psychedelic aspect of the album that's ever so present in 1960s songs. I do feel that it's a bit too white for me as of right now. I need something with more sauce. I'm only 3 songs in but it is a 9 song album. It's honestly bland or I am not in the headspace for it. Let it bleed had questionable lyrics. My favorite song would be you can't always get what you want. Because that is what I am currently going through in life right now. I also really liked love in vain and listened to it twice. No least favorite songs, but a lot of songs did not end up being in my like songs.

An album of bookend bangers. A bunch of flyover states in between. I'm fine to leave it on after the opening track - don't need to put it on particularly - but as it gets going through, may as well leave it on for the closer.

Monkey Man was a good new find. Obviously I Can't Always Get...is a classic, the rest was a little too country rock for me

it's okay, waking up to a choir singing You Can't Always Get What You Want was a very House MD moment

Rock of course. Lots of country/western influence in this one Some rock n roll and even gospel bits (you cant always get what you want) Best track - let it bleed/ midnight rambler is fun

Some good tracks, some average ones, some very skippable ones. I still don't really like Mick Jagger's singing.

Good but don't see myself regularly listening

god i wish this was a sonic youth album

It’s fine, nothing really stood out to me

Too bad the whole album couldn’t keep up.

can appreciate it for what it is, a good album, but its just not my style of music.

Two 4s bookend a 2

Wow I thought this album was going to be phenomenal given the two hits. But that's all this was. Two great hits surrounded by mediocre 60's honky tonk imitations. Meh.

Man, the more of these Stones deep cuts I hear the more I really see these guys as greatest hits merchants. A lot of this is just very dull and derivative faux blues/honky tonk bullshit, I don't know why their albums are littered with this and then sprinkled with a few of their breakout tracks. the opening and closing tracks are definite highlights for me and save this from a negative rating in spite of the fact that hearing Jack Nicholson may have tainted my listening experience of Gimme Shelter. As for the rest of this album though, if I paid to see this live and ended up getting fatally stabbed by some Hells Angels meathead, dying would probably only be the 2nd worst thing that happened to me that night

Pavlovian response to the first track that makes me think im about to see some fat retard drop their chilli on a basketball court and say the n word (white)
