Reviews (page 9 of 14)
A good listen. Older and wiser, the "contrivances" (i.e. this didn't emerge whole from a jam session) are clearer (actually, would it be fair to say the the craft, as opposed to a natural predisposition for aesthetics, is more obvious now?) but still a jolly good listen
A titan of an album from start to finish, and quite literally from the first song to the last. Highly recommend.
Fantastic rock/blues album. A lot more easier to digest for the casual listener compared to some of their other records. Fav tracks: Gimmie Shelter, Let It Bleed, You Can't Always Get What You Want
What I noticed about this LP, similar to the last 1001 offering, Aftermath, is that the hits sound very different than the rest of the album. “Gimme Shelter” is maybe my favorite Stones song (especially the vocals of Merry Clayton) but they jump to a twangy country blues vibe immediately afterward and stay there until the last song on the album when they bring in the London Bach Choir (!) If you were to compare this to other albums from around the same time by The Who, Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple, their hit songs at least resembled the rest of the album. So, the Stones were either very diverse or inconsistent. Anyway, there are a handful of stellar tracks, the session musicians are great (Brian Jones contributions are chuckle-worthy) & I’m rounding up for the electric version of Honky Tonk that never made to the LP.
The two bookends on this album are arguably the Stones' best songs ever so 'nuff said about them. Then there's a few solid Tier 2 songs on the album, Monkey Man, Let it Bleed and Midnight Rambler which are pretty damned good. Unfortunately the rest of the album is essentially filler. Also I'm not sure how I feel about some blokes from London appropriating Blues that was originally done by Blacks in the American south. I have mixed feelings about this as they certainly gave this genre a huge worldwide audience, but they also sold a shit-ton more records than the OGs. Oh well, I guess that's show biz. I think overall this is a 3.5 star album but the sheer weight of the book-ends elevates this to a 4.
An album that cements The Rolling Stones in rock history. Favorites: Gimme Shelter, Midnight Rambler, You Can't Always Get What You Want
Up there with the best Stones offering. Two iconic tracks (the opener a contender for their finest moment?) and lots of great bluesy stuff.
High school AER remembers checking Let it Bleed out from the public library (to burn onto CDR) and loving every song. Looking back, I probably played Gimme Shelter, skipped all the way to Monkey Man and YCAGWYW, then put on some DMB. The middle tracks are still solid. Bluesy boozy Jagger/Richards. Midnight Rambler drags it's own carcass into a fun jam. There's just so much magic in the bookend tracks that the middle feels a bit normal. Imagine a Stones vending machine and for $1.50 it'll drop You Got the Silver down the chute. Unwarranted hateraide aside, it's still an all time classic "essential" 60s rock record that we all must listen to before we die, or before Mick and Keith are turned into holograms. A-
I think they did themselves a disservice by leading with Gimme Shelter, it’s such a banger, a 6 in the world of 5s, the sound is so big. But after that they seem to revert back to the stripped down blues and Appalachia vibes that are exemplified by in Exile on Main Street. The whole middle chunk of this album just feels like a let down compared to the first song. Not bad, lots of good white blues. I think the big stones fans prefer the stripped down raw things they do, but I prefer the more polished songs with the bigger sound. The last two songs almost reach the Gimme Shelter heights again, in my mind they should’ve transitioned from these and finished with shelter—perhaps this was an A-Side/B-Side thing that I’m unaware of. Good album, but only a 4.
Bold move thrusting at max force erection right outta the gate. You gotta tease 'em a bit before obliterating
Didn't really like Monkey Man
Fun album. Part of a great run in the 70s. 70s Stones s by far my favorite Stones.
great album - gimmie shelter obviously the star (and one of the all time great songs to lead off an album). the rest of the album is just okay by me, but still a solid stones album.
Yes, was good
Two of the finest tracks of all time, plus some others that are a little less memorable.
Esta medio trabado en medio campo, pero no deja de ser alineación legendaria.
inches rolones trae ese disco.
Muy buenas canciones, melodías, acompañamientos y orquestación. Como siempre de esta gente, un muy buen disco
I don't have any disdain for The Rolling Stones, like some people, ahem. I will even venture to say that I like them. Will I spend hundreds of dollars to go to one of their shows? Probably not. I think this album shows the breadth of their music - some songs are clearly rock, others are more jazz, some are acoustic and others a bit country/honky tonk. Their impact to the music that came after them is far reaching. And yes, the whole druggie rockstar thing is played out now. Many will try to emulate their music and their lifestyle and few will be successful.
Starts nicely with an absolute banger. Lots of bluesy stuff that doesn't jump out but makes for some chill listening. 3.5 for me
Their bestest album!
its really really good, but I know it too well now and can't enjoy it as much!
I see why this is a classic. First RS listened to in it’s entirety. Very bluesy which is what I’ve heard before, as to Beatles being more pop than rock. Honky Tonk woman first draft?
Just a solid rock album. Elements of country and blues interspersed throughout. More than a little horn. Favorite tracks: "Country Honk", "Live With Me", "Midnight Rambler"
I mean - an album that STARTS with Gimme Shelter and ENDS with You Can't Always Get What You Want? I'm not the world's biggest Stones fan, but this is undeniably just a masterpiece of chewy hard-driving rock.
Niet echt een uitzonderlijk album, maar wel oké
one of the best from the stones. this was in the midst of their great time. I lie the drunken swaggering bar band sounds.
It's one of the core Stones albums, some absolute classics on here. What more is there to say? Might not be *my* first choice for entry-level Stones, but if you pick it, I can't say you picked wrongly per se.
Wow I didn't know they made a more country / honkey tonk version of Honkey Tonk Women. I dig it. Probably my favorite collection of Rolling Stones songs? 4
Very solid album, featuring some great hits. There was some great music in the late 60s and this is one of the best albums
Some classic tracks, and the others are good. Never really listened to a whole rolling stones album before
Great
good, and their drummer has just died this week. RIP
Great stuff! So many classic here. Arguably the best Stones song ever in Gimme Shelter
Another frenetic and rugged album , featuring Gimme Shelter, a quintessential jam that featured post-psychedelic guitar counterpoint. (8/10) Favourite Songs: Gimme Shelter, You Can’t Always Get What You Want
Great album.
Really enjoyable for the youthful energy, swagger and playfulness. You can feel the enjoyment in the band playing together. Ambitious, provocative, shocking and vigorous, but doesn't seem to take itself too seriously. Don't like the mix on the vocals on the first few tracks, especially Gimme Shelter - it sounds like Mick Jagger is at the far side of the room.
About what I expected. Some good ones I hadn't heard before
Good. It's the Stones, innit
Very nice album. A good mix between classic rock and maybe even country.
Liked it generally. Rolling Stones is pretty hit or miss with me. They have some stand out songs but a lot of their stuff sounds the same to me.
A classic album that shows The Rolling Stones passion & American blues & country influences. There is a disconnect that comes from Mick's vocals & the twanginess of the music, making it feel like Mick is flat or out of time. Overall it is a fine album, but the vocals on the more country/blues songs could have been cleaner.
Solid album. Gimme shelter obviously one of the greatest classic rock songs of all time. Midnight rambler another fav
Has some good songs on there a few weak songs just by the first listen entirely but overall enjoyable
Two classic songs, “Gimme Shelter” & “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” Great blues and gospel feels
Pretty solid album from start to finish. I liked most of the songs. I was pleasantly surprised as I'm not much of a Rolling Stones fan.
This has to be one of the best albums to exist, the lyrics are so dark and menacing with the insturmental being upbeat, almost as a distraction. The whole album though has a very real, dark vibe from it.
Gimme Shelter: amazing Love In Vain: very good Country Hook: average Live with me: excellent Let It Bleed: very good Midnight Rambler: good You got the silver: good Monkey man: very good You can’t always get what you want: excellent 7.5/10
Solid album. A bit of a country feel.
A feel-good, groovy listen. Not really much into classic rock but this was good.
Very very good.
Three standout tracks, some mediocre and a couple of fillers. Good album
Gimme shelter best track, also you can’t always get what you want
Good album, definitely doesn't sound like 1969. Gimme Shelter is top 10 tracks of all time. However, the album peaks with track 1 and never hits that height again.
Great album. Some real stand out tracks such as You Can't Always Get What You Want and Monkey Man. Has a very Cream band sound to it.
Gimme Shelter has to be one of the best opening tracks of all time. You Can’t Always Get What You Want is a great closer. I just don’t think that most of the songs are as good as the hits. Monkey Man and Live With Me are also great tracks but I don’t like them quite as much as the opener or closer. It’s a great album but it has a few songs that don’t do much for me. Favorite songs: Gimme Shelter, Live With Me, Let It Bleed, Monkey Man, You Can’t Always Get What You Want Light 8/10
Classic early, bluesy Stones. **** for the opening to Gimee Shelter !
Banging and opening and closing tracks and pretty good in the middle too. Didn’t realise how American some of their stuff sounded
Great lazy breakfast. Some classics and ones I’d never heard which made my ears prick up via great lyrics and choonage. Properly feels like the classics bookended the the middle portion.
Pretty good! It’s an 8 from me.
I really thought this was gonna be The Rolling Stones lp that grabbed me but no it wasn’t…whyyyy did bands do this tongue in cheek Americana bullshit around this time it’s so disingenuous
8. had some good songs
The standard for rock, but nothing flashy until the end
I enjoy Rolling stones much more than I thought before this album.
Some decent songs bookended by fantastic songs. I think if the middle section wasn’t all dragging blues or if Monkey Man wasn’t a song I’d rank it higher. 8
7/10 uwu
Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are by far the best/most popular songs on the album but the other songs are alright. 7/10.
Good rock and roll!
Classic
classic stones love it
My second favorite Stones album. So good.
4 ist halt nice
Very good. One of the best Stones albums. Gimme Shelter might be their greatest song. 8-9/10
this was p great
The best Rolling Stones album for sure
Definitely enjoyable. Feels very loose
Pretty good Stones record.
!!!!
Realized I didn't know this as well as I thought. Didn't realize Honky Tonk Woman was more or less an alternate B side, the version of Midnight Rambler I identify with appears to be a live version I couldn't source off the bat looking for it... Other than that, it's classic Stones, amazing if you like that kind of thing (which I do).
good, some songs were weak
A fine album, some familiar songs
Pretty good, but not my favorite Rolling Stones
blaaaaaa
-Never heard Country Honk, that was a cool alternative take. -Best song is Midnight Rambler for sure. -You can't always get what you want does not make sense on this album, just thrown on at the end. Sort of ruins the vibe despite being a good song.
great collection of rolling stones songs. would listen again.
hab nur drei Lieder davon gehört bevor ich eingeschlafen bin aber war nice und hatte diese ✨history vibes✨
Great.
Pretty decent loved the title track!!
Cool, especially fun front half. I hate hate hate the choir in the intro of the last song. i thought rolling stones were gonna suck but I guess I'm wrong
Classic
This is among my favorite Stones albums, but not quite up there with Satanic Majesty, Beggars Banquet, Black and Blue and Some Girls. The overall feel of this album is based on a bluesy-rock-country twang that give the Stones what I consider their best sound. 4.5 stars.
Quite the country influenced album. Very good tho. F.T.: Gimme Shelter. Do you even have to ask?? 7/10
It’s a great album, arguably the start of The Stones’ classic era, yet it feels like more than the sum of its parts.
Solid prime era Stones
Some great classics, but also a little more country-ish than I expected.
good album, that's it.
Starts well and ends well. The middle hmmm a bit blah
Gimme shelter has to be the most iconic car commercial song of all time at this point. A honkey tonk rock and roll album. A great cap to the era before the 70's took over
Not my taste, but it is objectively good music.
6.5/10, good music but not really for me, I find it somewhat boring and repetitive.
Another puzzlingly inconsistent album from The Rolling Stones - like Beggars Banquet, this one is at its best on its bluesy songs, with the more rootsy country stuff falling more flat. I don't think The Rolling Stones can really pull off a varied album like this.
The Stones strike again with another strange album containing a couple all-time great songs with a bunch of bullshit in between. I just can’t seem to get behind their attempt at honky tonk stuff. This album even contains Country Honk, which is apparently the original version of how Honky Tonk Women was supposed to sound, but it’s significantly worse because they’re a British band trying to make a damn country sound!!!! Three points for Gimme Shelter tho.
This is totally fine. As we have seen before, you have two all time great songs with a lot of weaker material sandwiched in, but I did find myself enjoying Let it Bleed (song) and Monkey Man at least. This is one of their more listenable efforts.
not too much of my jam, but it wasn't unpleasant to listen to either.
5/10 I think front-to-back this is the best Stones album I've heard so far, but I only really got into about half of it.
A bit all over the place and shit in the middle somewhat
Is it this good?? Doesn’t really do much for me. Gimme shelter is classic but I don’t see myself loving it..
Gimme Shelter is an absolute classic, but the rest of the album doesn't quite match that peak. country honk feels very off from the rest of the album, but overall it isnt a bad listen
fav songs: gimme shelter you got the silver you can't always get what you want blues, iconic, dusty 60/100
It's a good album all right, I don't have anything bad to say about it. Gimme Shelter is certainly a banger. The blues ballads are nicely done, even if not particulary groundbreaking. However, this list pretty much confirmed that outside of their big hits, the Rolling Stones mostly bore me. I can't really explain why - they just do. Their music often feels like something's missing, something I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe it just doesn't speak to me on an emotional level ; or maybe it's their weird obssession with making American roots music, which always felt a bit forced and artificial. Not an unpleasant listen overall, but I don't see myself coming back to it. 5/10
Damn. This is a very good album. This might be their 5. Let’s see how I feel… Uh… no. No. This is a shit sandwich. Gimme Shelter- a bunch of shit - You can’t Always get what you want. The album cover even displays it. They knew. 3 Boolean: uhhhh,True?
I can’t lie this is definitely the best Rolling Stones album on the list - 60s rock is never my thing, it still isn’t after this album but this wasn’t a bad listen at all! Cool album cover too
A criminally underrated and unknown band. In an alternative universe they'd be more beloved and well known than Steps. "Let it bleed" was a pleasant listen. A good mix of old rock, blues and country elements culminating in an "All American" sound. I particularly enjoyed the fiddling on "Country Honk." They're not a band I've really spent the time to listen to. I know there will be more Rolling Stones records on the list so I look forward to hearing them. 3/5
This is mostly for Gimme Shelter tbh
Overall pleasant. I don't think it's as much a shit sandwich as some say it is, it definitely has good bits in between the heavy hitter opener and closer. I say this as someone who typically prefers an earlier Stones sound, even if they're a band best listened to for their occasional hit single rather than any of their albums as an experience.
Kaks päris head lugu, ülejäänud pigem fillerid. Võibolla aja kohta väga head, aga praegu tundub see pigem basic ja mitte väärt albumile panemist. 3.2/5
would maybe stop if it played on radio in a car
You Can’t always get what you want is such a damn good song. Album is a classic.
I was incredibly bored by this album
A 3.5 for me. A good album sandwiched between two stand out tracks in Gimmie Shelter and Can’t Always Get What You Want, but the middle feels loose and too honkeytonk / bluesy influences so sounds lost between the two genres.
Commence bien, finie bien, milieu oubliable mais album sympa.
Rehtiä rokkia 🤝 Upea toi vikan biisin kuorointro! 😍
Tbh aika mid, en tykännyt hirveesti noista western-viboista. 3 tähteä tai jopa 2,5, ei houkuttanut kuuntelemaan uudestaan 🥲
Baladas
2026.06.02-03.
It’s ok
Another album which starts out with a banger largely outshadowing the rest of the material. Gimme Shelter is something I have known for a long time, and I had to listen it on repeat when I started listening this. The Stones do combine elements of a few genres, but the first half of the record proves underwhelming, especially given the superiority of Gimme Shelter. Then you have some nice sogs. I believe the record is likely to have influenced various bands later on. Still, here on Let It Bleed much of the stuff feels just not as capturing as some rock music you are used to. It is overall nice, but lacks something for higher rates, and I am not going to give it favors due to its age. A decent rock release, but I believe the band is likely to have better ones. My picks: Live With Me, Let It Bleed, Monkey Man (cool piano use). Gimmer Shelter is perhaps better than the rest of the album combined... but still, we have to try to rate the album as a whole.
Glad I listened but I think Rolling stones has become one of those bands where the greatest hits and a few personal ones is the extent of the listen. Album that is good by vibes.
No debe ser el mejor disco de los stones. Me gustan sólo la primera y la última. Pero contento de que salieron.
Not bad, two huge hits in Gimme Shelter and You Vant Always Get What You Want. These two are great songs. The rest are mostly just ok. 3.5.
Never thought I'd like the Stones, but this is actually a good album. I appreciate the bluesy feel, although it is a bit too bluesy for my taste. They could have benefitted from a better singer, but all in all it's quite enjoyable.
I have no connection with The Rolling Stones other than them being overused in movies and trailers. This album didn’t change any of the totally neutral feeling I have towards them.
no es su mejor disco. tiene temas meh y temas buenos. creo que es bastante mid (por ahi es que estoy teniendo un dia de re mierda)
It’s alright.
Monkey man and you can’t always get what you want , ja takk
It’s alright
This is one of the four-album period of the Stones that I enjoy. Enjoy the acoustic and more country-tinged to the bluesier numbers, but I’d rate this right down the middle for my enjoyment. I’m super taken with how great the recording sounds on the Remastered version I listened to. I like it and appreciate it but probably won’t listen to it much. Sticky Fingers and Exile are my preference.
Not my cuppa tea at first. Knew and liked the hits from childhood. Didn't finish and switched to Paul Simon's Hearts and Bones. Came back, enjoyed title track, Midnight Rambler, and of course You Can't Always Get What You Want.
Starts with an all-time legend song in “Gimme Shelter”, then - with that out of the way - rolls into a muddy, rambling county-blues that sounds like a lot of drugs. Which isn’t bad! The Stones are doing very much their own thing here. “Country Honk” would evolve into the much tighter “Honky-Tonk Women”. The title track is a little gem. Still, “Midnight Rambler” and “You Can’t Always…” are never my favorites. The children’s chorus on “You…” really grates on me. Really hit-or-miss here, but the Stones receive a little more grace for trying some things. They don’t give a fuck what I think anyway.
la primera y la última son de 10, simplemente como empieza ya ha merecido todo la pena, muy country para mi gusto y me ha costado un poco peero nada nada mal, son icónicos
Listening session: may 11th, while shopping Listened to before: heard one song before Thoughts: som parts of this album are iconic, but other than that this is not something I would listen to again. Not the best Rolling Stones album Favourite tracks: Gimme Shelter & You Can’t Always Get What You Want
Gimme Shelter - 3/5 Love In Vain - 3/5 Country Honk - 3.5/5 Live With Me - 3.5/5 Let It Bleed - 4/5 Midnight Rambler - 3/5 You Got The Silver - 3/5 Monkey Man - 3.5/5 You Can't Always Get What You Want - 3/5
Never got into this. You Can't Always Get What You Want is a great song, but other than that, nothing was that good. Still solid album overall, because The Rolling Stones are a good band. Can't ever be too bad.
they said you can't always get what you want, but i did
2 hit songs to start and end the album, but a bunch of mediocrity sandwiched in between
Couple good songs but nothing amazing
The album peaks at 'Gimme Shelter', then it has a bunch of nonsense before it gets to another decent song 'You Can't Always Get What You Want'
Two of their best songs with a bunch of filler sandwiched in between. Was not familiar with Country Honk so that was kind of interesting to hear. Idk why, but the Stones appeal to me less as I get older. Not a bad album, just not one I'd lean on when I'm in the mood for them.
a few great tracks. I love the stones but don't love their albums as a whole
A decent Album for them.
Maybe basic but this is prob the Stones album I’ve liked the most so far. Still not really a fan, gotta say
opening - best song ever middle - worst songs of all time closing - okay-est song ever
Gimme Shelter and You Cant Always Get What You Want are the stars here and they do a good amount of heavy lifting. The rest is pretty bog-standard blues inspired Stones stuff, Let It Bleed making me laugh about a guy talking about doing coke and getting stabbed in a filthy basement with a jaunty melody is pretty good.
Well we all need, someone we can cream on Another mixed bag from the Stones. Gimme Shelter, Let it Bleed are terrific and the album closer You Can’t Always Get What You Want was a transcendent experience listened to on a sunny day mountain drive with the windows down, but the rest of the album is so weird and forgettable. Just poorly executed country songs and weird Americana and also the awful blues. Hopefully this is the last of the Stones because I can honestly say this list has completely tarnished their reputation for me
reicht mit den ganzen country schiene albums. erster und die letzter song sind stark zwischendrin nicht meins, wobei ich den dritt und zweitletzten okay fand.
Not really my cup of tea, it was fine
A couple certified bangers but not my favorite as an album
Good album, "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" are amazing.
Good album and few songs I liked.
Another overrated 60's -70's band. While its not a bad album, it is just gimme shelter + bunch of fillers. And even that song is massively overrated lmao.
Amazing opening track. Incredible closing track. A bunch of "eh?" in the middle. Didn't hate it, but didn't wow me to the core either. Have never liked Jagger's exaggerated vocals on slower songs such as "Love In Vain" which was notably tough to get through. Dead middle of the pack.
The first one is sooo great !! Gimme shelter!! Don't really like the other, country vibe
70
Couple of good songs
Decent album
Big hair, tight pants. There’s a few pretty good tracks on here but it ultimately feels like young white guys being cool- lacks the deep soul and heartache of TRUE rock and roll. That being said it smells like a turning point of a musical evolution- on the cusp of a new wave.
first time listening to this one straight through. I was familiar with "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" -- beyond that there wasn't much else on here that I thought was all that great. "Midnight Rambler" is fun and has its moments of trickery that grabbed my attention. mostly it sounded like The Rolling Stones doing their own take of genres and approaches to songcraft that other people were doing/had done better already. is that what all the "classic" Stones albums are like? guess I'm gonna find out.
Great bookends on this album, obviously. But again, the middle disappoints. Not bad, just kinda there. There were a couple minutes of Midnight Rambler when the groove sets in that I sat up for. I like the general vibe of You Got the Silver, and Monkey Man is real good.
Gimme shelter and Monkey man are incredible but the deep cuts on this are so disappointing. Also as a side note adding a children’s choir to a rock song will always make it infinitely worse, I’m looking at you You can’t always get what you want. See also: War is over and Schools out.
Great Stones album, great beginning and end songs for the album. Vintage rock and roll, my favorite song off this album is always gonna be Gimme Shelter.
nice
I like the train song, I thought it was pretty cool. I don't really know how I feel about this album, but I do like the sound of it. Overall, this album is just a vibe to listen to, but I'm not sure if I would listen to it again.
It is yet another embarrassing thing to admit but I have never heard a Rolling Stones album in full until this very point. I have heard many of their songs before and would consider myself a fan of some extent but once again I didn't know what to expect when going through 40+ minutes of their music. Thankfully I feel Let It Bleed was probably the best place I could have started when it came to their music. Let It Bleed is a feel good album. It may not be this big loud Rock album a lot of people would expect from the stones, but it is a more calm and laid back Blues Rock album that shows some of the finer details of the band's chemistry as well as their writing skills in a much brighter way than usual. Overall, it’s a really solid album, the only thing holding it back is my spite for dad.
nice bass on 'live with me'
Classic
Great record. Preferred the last stones one I heard, but again, awesome experimentation here
I love some of The Rolling Stones songs. Like really love. I liked some of these songs in this album however, its not my thing. Classic and Iconic for sure but I'm not really the person who listens to this type of rock.
1st song pretty good, i like the girl vocals. 2nd song is ok, abit slow tho live w me - cool sax let it bleed - not rly a fan of how they kinda speak the lyrics instead of sing them midnight rambler - interesting. i do like harmonicas. oo it sped up now n stopped swingin, cool u cant always get what u want - i recognise this melody?? i think they sang this on glee didnt notice the album was over.. anyway pretty ok, wouldnt b mad if sum1 played it but wouldnt choose it myself
mick jagger voice is way too ingrained in my brain via my dad playing stones all the time when i was growing up. these songs are fine but every bluesy jammy type track has been done better IMO!! the closer is nice tho
when mick jagger said "we all need someone we can cream on" i really felt that
Alright rock album not much to say
I love the combination of different sounds. And I’ve never listened to the Rolling Stones before so it was cool
Not bad songs per say but a bit too long and I’m not a big country/acoustic guy
Never been a fan of mick but the tunes are tolerable
It's OK
I know this album’s a classic but the only song I cared about was “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” 🫣😅
Enjoyable to listen to.
No es un género que suela escuchar a menudo, pero me gustó para acompañar mis mañanas en la oficina
Good but old
third rolling stones album pulled... i like gimme shelter but i don't think the rest of the album lives up to it, still a fine listen though.
When the tracks are good, they’re great. There is a decent amount of filler. Appreciate the song from Goodfellas being on there.
mb not for me not bad music
6/10 Bajo nivel, nunca me termino de convencer, las canciones son tranquilas pero les falta sazon, no tiene ninguna que destaque, son un meh, lo apruebo porque es de los Rolling nomas
This album is like a sandwich. A sandwich scraped together with all sorts of leftovers put between two of the most delicious slices of homemade bread you've had. Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are the mega Stones classics that they've always been. And the rest... well, it's okay. It's kind of goofy, aloof British mix of rock and blues that tends to lean more bluesy here than I'd expect. Mick Jagger's vocals still drag the album down for me, but it's almost entirely made up for by the choir in the ultimate track of the record. 3.5 Highlight: You Can't Always Get What You Want Lowlight: Monkey Man Highlight: #2 Gimme Shelter
Pretty solid album, I did like it a lot, but it was slightly a let down. If you really, really get tracks on here, but quite a bit in the middle was not necessarily my favorites, but I have. Three stars.
My first The Rolling Stones album. The first song on the album is very good, full of energy, and it captures the sound the band carries throughout the entire record. This song reminds me of Apocalypto or Despair. The last track is an amazing closer. I do think the slower tracks are kind of weak or bland, they don’t do much for me. On some tracks, I find Mick Jagger’s performance very fitting and full of the energy the song needs, but on others, his vocals are a bit annoying and it just feels like he’s screaming in my ear to get my attention. Overall, I find this album enjoyable, but I don’t see myself coming back to it other than in a couple of tracks. My favorite tracks are: Gimme Shelter, Live With Me, monkey Man, You Can’t Always Get What You Want.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ me gustó, es un clásico y una banda memorable, siempre es buena escuchar sus canciones y este álbum me transmita un ritmo más aclamado y contri.
I can’t believe how forgettable most of these songs are and how much they feel like “hippy garbage.” If you had asked me 3 days ago who the Rolling Stones were, these two words would have been the last thing on my mind. How is it possible for albums to be so boring?
I remember this being better. It’s not.
No me gusto mucho, si bien es un buen album con mucha historia, pasa muy lento a mi parecer. Gimme shelter me gusto mucho, pero no mucho mas. 5/10
Opener and closer are deserved classics, but not a whole lot going on in between
Two amazing numbers, but the rest of the album can't live up to that standard
I like the stones more than I thought! The bluesy stuff was my favorite off this
Couple of good songs
Not a huge fan.
A couple of great songs, but the rest is country and meh.
They wrote two all-time classic songs, stuck them on either end of the album, and put any old shit in between
‘‘Twas alright
As always with The Rolling Stones, the big hits are really good and everything else on the album is wildly inconsistent. Makes the fact that they have so many albums on this list feel a bit egregious
Good.
The big tunes are huge, the filler sucks. The Rolling Stones will always be a greatest hits band to me. Give me Rolled Gold any day
Couple of great tracks but, dare I say it, quite a bit of forgettable dress.
Pretty standard but solid Stones album. A few good standout songs, few that sound like they started jamming on something and thought they'd just go with it....
Pretty good, a few good songs on it.
Some bangers on here for sure, solidly good
This project has more or less confirmed that I'm happy with the Stones' hits. I've yet to enjoy a full-length from start to finish, and it's not for lack of trying (even before this project). In this case, the best moments bookend Let It Bleed: the relatively svelte "Gimme Shelter" and the overlong-but-iconic "You Can't Always Get What You Want." The songs between those often feel meandering—or rambling, if you will—and I prefer the alt "Honkey Tonk Women" to "Country Tonk." It's useful to hear everything in its context, but I don't expect to return to this.
Gimme Shelter bangs but I didn’t care much about the rest
Some great songs and some not that exciting, overall a good album
5/10
Didn't realize how much The Rolling Stones sounded like southern rock with influences of gospel and blues. Really liked "You Got the Silver"
This is a fine enough album. Does this really need to be here when Exile on Main Street and Beggars' Banquet are already here? Not really. I'm inclined to give this 2 stars, but it's not really bad enough for that.
Fav- you can’t always get what you want 3/5
Tooling bones
Great bookend songs. The rest was interesting blues
I’m starting to think the Rolling Stones are just an object of their time because I really just cannot get into any of their albums. I like the top hits or best of albums, but outside of the hits they’re just so mehhhhh. The opener and the closer saved this from complete catastrophe.
I understand the hype.
The longest tracks ever and they all sound the same. Pretty good
Had a few songs I liked.
Gimme Shelter is an underrated opener - what a mood. But, that mood doesn’t carry through the album whatsoever - lots of down home, jangly, bluesy tracks. Then, You Can’t Always Get What You Want… Immediate disqualification because of its involvement with the Big Chill.
𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘐𝘵 𝘉𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘥 is a slightly uneven listen for me. At its best, the album reaches extraordinary heights: 𝗚𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿, the title track, and 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗖𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁 are all outstanding songs and among the most memorable moments in the Stones’ catalogue. Outside those highlights, however, much of the record settles into fairly straightforward blues rock. It’s played with confidence and swagger, but it rarely feels as striking as the album’s strongest material. The peaks are undeniable, yet the rest can feel more workmanlike than inspired.
Just because this is the stones does not make country any less bad!
gimme shelter is kind of on point right now but i do not think there's a chance all of this would get fixed with a kiss midnight rambler reminded me of gloria by patti smith but, well, male. idek why to be exact love in vain is pretty fucking bad not going to lie i yawned 2 times already. it's like 2 teens got tasked to create a sad love song and they.. did.. with a bit of a satire though live with me is.. tasteless reading let it bleed lyrics with my eyes wide OPEN. upd: just realized it's also the name of the album what the eheck monkey man first one i actually enjoy. will make sure to jump around listening to this song sometime . and it's followed by the best song of the album as well - closing you can 't always get what you want is something that is just there and forever will continue on being.. there. i feel like there should be a confetti box exploding after listening to this album
Album #1 - 6 Mar 2026 Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want are obvious highlights. Some samey blues driven tracks felt a bit like filler in the middle, but easy enough to listen to.
lots of skips
喜欢第一首的吉他和女高音。主唱声音有时还可以。
mellow stones
Enjoyable album.
Almost a little too twangy sounding for me, but some good music overall. I've mainly only listened to the hits from the Stones so it was good to hear a full album and some deeper cuts.
Cumple
You can’t always get what you want is basically the only reason to show up
I‘m honestly not a big stones fan and this album was rather mid. Some songs are quite a banger others are just meh.
The Rolling Stones are, without a doubt, the most overrated band in history. The music is boring and Mick Jagger is a clown. In anticipation of the many many Stones albums to come, I really did try to sit with this one to see if I could see it another way. But no. Considering this is one of their better efforts (right?), I don't expect forthcoming albums to get as much attention.
This was fine: a couple good songs peppered in among many sleep-inducing tracks of Mick Jagger trying to sound like a founding member of the Soggy Bottom Boys. Not my jam, really, but at least it's not lush, orchestral pop!
While not bad, the album really didn't stick with me. There isn't much I can say about this. Good in the moment but nothing long time. The lead single is pretty funny though. Best songs are Let It Bleed and Live With Me. 5/10, if you want someone to like the Stones, try something else.
The first album by the Stones I've listened. I think it was a very nice experience and I could pretty much enjoy every song on it. Love the guitar work throughout
Although it's not my personal taste, I appreciate the album for it's cutural significance and context
This was overall fine, not up my alley too much. Familiar with 'Gimme Shelter', I think "Let It Bleed" and definitely "You Can't Always Get What You Want" which I like. Perhaps don't love their blues-y style too much,
White British folks trying their best to replicate American blues. Not for me
Paar goeie nummers, geheel wat minder.
Decent
My first Stones album. Not bad, just ok. Pleasant to listen to, but I’ve never been a huge Rolling Stones fan, and this more or less met my expectations.
I just...I just don't know. I feel like there must be something with The Stones that I'm missing. I can't stand Mick Jagger's singing. I feel like Keith Richard's playing is...boring? And something about their version of rock-meets-honky-tonk is so uninteresting to me. But, "Gimme Shelter" is fantastic. Looks like I've found a hill to die on. Fave tracks: - Gimme Shelter - Live With Me - Let It Bleed - Midnight Rambler - Monkey Man - You Can't Always Get What You Want
Gimme shelter / Can’t always get what you need Open and End the album, monkey man is in there but felt the meat of the sandwich lacked spice
Stand out singles. Overall forgetable blusey background.
I am surprised I have not listened to Rolling Stones yet. I did like the first and last song a few things in between. 5.2/10 for today.
Yeah overall it’s a pretty decent album. During this time era, they were doing some Psychedelic music, and than they completely switched up with this album, but any ways this album has a lot of different styles of music that they Incorporated.
OK
Nice, but they get so much better later on.
classic
Alright, Gimme Shelter is of course a banger, and I liked Midnight Rambler and You Cant Always Get What You Want. Other than those idk nothing really stood out to me, of course everythings very well done but idk, just didnt click with me.
a 2.5, to be clear
idk
Opener i closer odlicni, ostalo ok. 6/10 Najbolja pisma: Gimme Shelter
I think this is the fifth Stones.album.I have had? Out of less than 300 generated. They can't have too many albums left for me, but I digress. Gimme Shelter And You Can't always get what you want are here. Love in Vain is not exactly what I would have expected from a Stones album. Country Honk being a countri-fied sort of cover of Honky Tonk Women is just odd to me. Although it appears.to have been released earlier on research. They're still a bunch of old weirdos, but also still decent sounding.
Besides “you can’t always get you want” the whole album is a bit too honky
Gimme Shelter is a banger. The rest of the album bops along without any tracks standing out. 3/5
The Stones were nearing their peak on Let it Bleed, which opens with their best song. "Gimme Shelter" has it all: groovy guitar licks, harmonica, and fantastic vocals from Merry Clayton. The tracks after it feel like whiplash though; the energy is immediately lowered for a couple blues and country tunes. And those songs are the norm for this album, which hews very closely to the blues side of blues rock. "Live With Me" is a rocker with dirty horns that hints at the direction they'd go in for Sticky Fingers, but it kind of just sounds like a trial run of "Bitch." "Midnight Rambler" has some interesting stuff going on, but it goes on for much too long. The closer is great, but by that point there have been too many lesser tracks. Everything sounds good here musically, but the blues sound just isn't convincing or gripping enough for this to match their best albums.
Aaaargh, I mis-clicked yesterday's album and gave a 4 to The Carpenters!!! Should have been a 2! I'll try not to mis-click today - but is it going to be much different? Sure, I like this album better than The Carpenters' one. For one, The Stones write their own songs. This is my 426th album and the first one by The Rolling Stones. I must confess I've never listened to a full album. I know their hits of course, like many of them but it never goes further than "like". I have never felt the urge to play a Stones song. It's a bit too predictable R&R for me, even though well made. Never really liked Jagger's squeaky voice though. So, this album. It's a bit like going to IKEA. The first 5' are really exciting and all seems great. Then it's an hour of boredom and not finding what you need. Then as you exit, they sell you a hot dog for 50p and you leave with the impression that it's wasn't so bad after all. Some songs on this album I find really poor, actually most of them except for the opener and closer. I'll give it a 3 because it's better than The Carpenters.
Favs: Love In Vain, Midnight Rambler, You Got The Silver. I love the cover art.
Ожидал меньшего чем оказалось на самом деле, ведь подобная музыка это не моё. В целом, альбом просто хороший, Gimme Shelter обрадовал даже.
It’s an ok album with one of the best Rolling Stones songs on it. Other than that, it’s very boring. There are two other good songs on here but that’s about it.
Buiten de 2 hits niet heel wauw
2 of the greatest songs of all time with instantly recognizable riffs. Keith showing up as the guitar god he is. Lots of new directions being tried here. I was really woved by how great Monkey Man was. Despite all this greatness - not a five or even 4 star for me - the in-between songs drag & are not for me & Midnight Rambler is hella a scary!. I would give it a 3.5 but since there is no half ranking giving it a 3.
A very strong three! A great record to have in the arsenal. The singles definitely out shadow the rest of the album.
Some classic songs, but some duds as well
(ranked in order of rating). 1. You Can't Always Get What You Want: What the hell did they put in this song? Stunning. 10+/10 2. You Got The Silver: Love me a love song. 10/10 3. Love In Vain: Big fan of the slower style, love a yearning song, but didn't like the fact that the intro only came through one side of my headphones. 9/10 4. Midnight Rambler: I really liked this one, creates a good vibe and the harmonica really elevates it. 8/10 5. Country Honk: A classic, even I've heard this one - very Harper coded, very vibes, love the background noises. 7/10 6. Monkey Man: This feels like a song rhat should be the backing track in a morning montage in a movie (/pos). 6/10 7. Live With Me: Maybe I take back what I say about shouty lyrics, this one is much more boppy compared to Gimme Shelter, love the saxophone interlude. 5/10 8. Gimme Shelter: Backing track was fun, not so much of a fan of the shouty, scratchy lyric side though. 4/10 9. Let It Bleed: What's with the intro coming in from one side again? Continued for a while this time and unfortunately was all I could concentrate on. Lyrics wise, I fear I am not the target audience. 2/10
This was a pretty good album. There are a few classics, and a nice bluesy sound throughout.
Prima album, niet veel over te zeggen
Klinkt niet echt als hoe ik zou denken dat the Rolling Stones klinken, maar toch ook een beetje wel. Best prima
Led me to the "relationships and fatherhood" section of Brian Jones' wikipedia which was something. Pretty good, remember it being big for me when first discovered. Some great "evil rock" energy here, true to the era. Moreso now it makes me want to dig into some of their influences more, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmie Rogers. I remember bouncing off some of those younger but I think they might have more staying power with me now.
3.0
I liked: Gimme Shelter, Let it Bleed, Monkey Man, You Cant Always Get What You Want. The rest can go in the bin.
So the whole time it was a hit or miss until the last song that I recognized. I went in without looking at the songs in the album, but even with knowing the last song the album itself was kinda....well, just okay.
My third Stones album here. Not quite as exhilarating as Sticky Fingers or Exile (both of which followed this), but still solid. There are no surprises here, but I’m not sure I’m a fan of the bluesier approach on this album. You Can’t Always Get What You Want is kinda monumental though. Even still, a solid 3.
The album starts with a pretty strong song, and then devolves into less interesting music. It's fine and listenable, but not amazing.
Great
Before Listening : It’s time for some old school rock. I of course have heard of The Rolling Stones, but Ive never sat down and listened to one of their albums. Let’s see if I like them. After Listening : That was pretty alright! Some songs definitely better than others. “Live With Me” might be my favorite. Yea I don’t really have much to add. Way better than the last album thats for sure.
Another classic
Let me get one thing out of the way: I never cared much for The Rolling Stones. I like individual songs but theyre really not an album band to me. This is also kinda the case for this. I love Gimme Shelter and YCAGWYW, but everything in between is mostly just ok. Some decent blues, some decent rock, neither side is super standout.
perfect album. the funky country stones are the best stones.
I don't like The Rolling Stones, but this is pretty good for a Rolling Stones album.
Nice to listen to, but more filler songs than bangers imo.
It's a 3.5
More stones. Great start, great finish... At least hits wise. The rest was interesting. Some cool grooves, some lovely guitar licks. Mick's voice is weird, it sounded like he was doing impressions of other singers at points. Hearing country tonk made me just want to listen to honky tonk women. I could imagine on repeat listens I'd appreciate the musicianship more, as it is I'm not sure it held my attention quite enough.
