Reviews (page 8 of 14)

A classic Stones album and maybe my favorite of theirs. They sound like they’re having a lot of fun with this.

With the highs on this, it's understandable that it could be ones favourite Stones record. It just feels a bit less cohesive than some of their other great albums.

I'm not really into the Stones, but I liked this album. It's true that, besides the two classic Stones tunes, the other tracks on "Let It Bleed" are derivative of American country and blues rock.

I've never really listened to the Stones before because I didn't like most of the stuff I heard on the radio but this was a great album. Not what I expected.

Pretty decent. 3.55

A good album, I liked Gimme shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want the most. I've heard them before this album and love to listen to the again and again.

As others have said the two mega hits carry this one. But my oh my do they carry this.

There is an undeniable charm that permeates throughout this. The album had a genuineness to it that other Stones projects have missed. There were a couple songs through the middle that lost me, but I enjoyed it as a whole and can see it leaking into an occasional play. Fav track: you can't always get what you want 3.5/5

Can't deny the classics on here. They still resonate, with that perfect controlled looseness that make The Stones so charismatic. There's still some dodgier blues rips that really don't work for me, but it's a winner. Fave track: You Can't Always Get What You Want

60s classic I’ve never given a proper listen to - had a great time sitting with this one over the weekend. The Stones aren’t a band I ever considered to be in my top catalogue, but every time they’ve come up I’ve enjoyed the album a good deal. Bookended by two great tracks, and even the bluesy honky tonky ones I found great driving tracks. I feel like I’m starting to get their chemistry as band members and reliance on classic styles of song writing and instrumentation. Good listen. Three and a half. Fave track: You Can’t Always Get What You Want

A startlingly timeless album that perfectly bookends the 1960’s.

classic, cool guitars and gimme shelter is amazing obviously fav: gimme shelter

Another classic from Mick and the boys

Almost a greatest hits! You recognize most songs on this album, and the ones that you haven’t heard often enough you should enjoy. I rated a four, only because to me, it seems to be very overplayed, and they’ve done much better before and after. But still… A classic

I can't believe Keith is still alive. Very stones, much jam.

Classic Stones. The country version of Honky Tonk Woman is fun. What a guitar line to open the album. 4 stars

I'm not a big stones fan. This was good though.

this might be my favorite Rolling Stones album. This is better than Exiled on Main Street. It's very consistent. Very raunchy and sexual. uhhhh 8.4/10

P good blues rock album

Nice. I've already reviewed Beggars Banquet which was excellent, but this isn't quite as good (imo). There were a few excellent moments though, and so I will give it 4 stars (same as Beggars Banquet) as 3 stars doesn't feel right.

-the rolling stones! -am really loving this album cover with the cake and records -THIS GUITAR! really digging it -is that SAXOPHONE? -the rolling stones really pulled it out for this album -and i am HIGHLY enjoying it -am LOVING how he is singing let it bleeeeeed -i vaguely remember the last rolling stones album i listened to enough to know i like this a lot more -the creepy children singing you can’t always get what you want is not a vibe tho -its a four star rating for me rn

You just can't sit still when listening to this one, can you? Positively surprised

Kicks off with the best Stones song and ends strong with another banger. What comes in between is not quite as strong. None of it is bad, but after Gimme Shelter anything is going to be hard pressed to really shine. On the whole a great album and definitely worth listening multiple times.

Been ages since listening to this one all the way through. Loved hearing the Country Honk version, even though it’s way worse than Honky Tonk Women. Love that this came out the day before Altamont, the bloody end of what people once thought was going to be an endless summer of love. The Stones, man! I get why Scorcese is so obsessed. I was listening to it on the way to school with the kids and was telling them, “This is The Rolling Stones…” “We know, Dad.” “There a very important band!” “We know, Dad.” “Yeah, I know, but not just like to music, but to me! They’re very important to me.” “Dad, you tell us this every time we listen to them.” “Ok. But you haven’t heard this album! Listen to THIS!”

Solid album. The stones do not miss

Starts amazing, gets dull after a few tracks

There are some pretty great tracks on this one, but a bunch in the middle started to sound same-y. I do think I like the rolling stones more than I thought I did though.

Classic for a reason. True story. Mick wrote Monkey Man because he wanted a banana

pretty good

Classic 4.5

Great classic rock album with a folk and country twist, all executed well. No one song sounded the same. Good stuff.

Gimme Shelter leads off this album and is just so so good that you forget how good it is, over time. I feel like I take it for granted. There are a few of those songs on this album, and it really does a great job of showing off Keith's skillset.

More early rock… at least this time it’s a band I’ve heard of. The first song (Gimme Shelter) is recognisable and good though! Actually liking this one quite a bit, finally a good suggestion after a bit of a slump. 4/5 so far.

Best Rolling Stones album.

A lot of classics on this one Classics: Gimme Shelter, Country Honk, Let it Bleed, You Can't Always Get What You Want Standouts: Midnight Rambler Others: Love in Vain 4/5

Never heard this one before. Solid.

Gimmie Shelter- 5/5 Love in Vain- 4.3/5 Country Honk- 3.5/5 Live With Me- 4/5 Let It Bleed- 3.9/5 Midnight Rambler- 4.7/5 You Got the Silver- 4.8/5 Monkey Man- 5/5 You Can't Always Get What You Want- 5/5 Total- 4.5/5

Good but not my favourite stones album.

The Rolling Stones were famous for a reason. Bluesy rock and swagger.

This is my second Rolling Stones album (the first being Beggars Banquet). With "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want," this album really gives greatness. Compared to other albums from the same era, "Let It Bleed" finds a balance between country blues and old rock, with gospel too.

a classic and quite smooth and enjoyable

Some absolute classics, but some also had some songs that just didn't hit

Good???: Really confused about this because I though this was meant to be one of the best 60s albums of all time, I didn't really come away having experienced that. For starters apart from the two massive songs, it was just plain mid. Maybe the fact the album opens and closes with them helps but I don't think it was all that good. Secondly as a whole the Rolling Stones are amazing but as albums go, underwhelming. In the grand scheme of music this is very good, some of the best, I was expecting more tho.

- start of the 70s era stuff - classic stones

Havde faktisk forventet at kunne lide det bedre. Stones er jo godt, men måske lidt for englænder blues simplistisk til mig? Virker ikke helt autentisk. Lille 4er, og kunne godt have været 3 hvis ikke for Gimme Shelter

Let's face it, Gimme Shelter has to be one of the greatest songs from the 60's, it's such an iconic song. Then you have You Can't Always Get What You Want on here two. Probably two of the best songs from the Rolling Stones (my favs being from other albums; (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, Sympathy For the Devil and Paint It, Black) but there two songs are really great songs. Apart from those two songs, this wasn't a bad little blues rock album. Standouts: Gimme Shelter, Let It Bleed, Monkey Man, You Can't Always Get What You Want

Stones at their grittiest.

Not a big fan of the Rolling Stones, but this was a good album.

Gimme shelter

Gimme shelter is a banger

I have this one on vinyl (from my dad's old collection). With Honky Tonk Women and You Can't Always Get What You Want, it's a clear winner!

Good. Upbeat, good pace. Very similar styles throughout.

Cool mix of classic pop rock and country rock

my first foray into rolling stones... exciting steps gimme shelter seems like the fan favorite and i get it, the GUITAR man... violent, moody, a song that wouldn't exist without its context. call me cliche but faves are definitely gimme shelter and you cant always get what you want. what can i say im a man of the people ! (also another 4 rating im so sorry i just like music. forgive me)

i love music. i love ... instrumental arrangements... its always so charming listening to stuff recorded in this era idk it just has a charm that digital recording can never emulate. this style of blues isnt for me but i can greatly appreciate the album for what it is and the artistry + musicality. it also just feels like you can tell they were having fun in the studio the entire time they were making this album :) Faves: Gimme Shelter, You Cant always get what you want, Country Honk is very fun., Monkey Man, Midnight Rambler Would I seek this out: Actually yeah. the ones i like from this album are in the rotation :)

rolling stones i owe you an apology...i was not familiar with your game. obviously gimme shelter lives up to the hype, and the overall honky-tonk vibes were a pleasant surprise. really strong opener and closer but honestly i also really liked everything in between!! faves: gimme shelter, love in vain, you got the silver

Já conheço

quintessential stones. Iconic songs with gimme shelter being my favorite.

Great album, classic

There’s a reason that the Stones are still recording albums after a hundred years! Not including the opening and closing classic tracks (and a hidden “country-style” third mega hit), this is a solid rock album!! Solid 4!

A goodie.

The Stones are a classic. Let It Bleed starts and ends strong, with some enjoyable tunes in between as well. Definitely worth a listen and an add to your library!

Quite the album opener and closer. Two absolute bona fide world class classics. I also enjoyed Monkey Man which I wasn't aware of which is pretty damn good. Yes it's dated again (I feel like this list is in itself maybe a bit dated?) but gonna give this a 4.

Who doesn't love a bit of Rock.

Bookended by two stunning songs but there's a whole lot of unmemorable stuff in between.

Can't truly appreciate the Beatles without the Stones to compare them to.

Favorite Tracks: Gimme Shelter, Let It Bleed, Midnight Rambler, Monkey Man, You Can't Always Get What You Want

good songs, felt very country for a rock band

Classic shit

Didn't know you can't always get what you want was a stone's song

Really nice, however there are better Rolling Stones albums

Not a lot of hits but still rocking! Halfway through we’re at a 7-8. Not a full 8 but it’s better than good..7.5 it can otherwise 7.

Culturally significant

The rolling stones are a favorite of mine and this album is a lot of fun

Classic

Gimme Shelter 5/5 Love In Vain 2/5 Country Honk 2/5 Live with me 4/5 Let it Bleed 4/5 Midnight Rambler 3/5 You Got The Silver 3/5 Monkey Man 4/5 You Can't Always Get What You Want 5/5 Average: 3,55 Great opening and closing track. Held back for me because of the two honkey tonk songs. Otherwise great album.

Oh, mon 1er des stones! Leur 8ème album avec des touches blues. Ok c'est hot! Blues/country fin des années 60.

Lots of blues and soul on this classic!

Good classic rock, with some unusual instruments (brass, sax)

9/10. A couple of the bluesy tracks not quite doing it for me. Mostly brilliant though

The album starting with Gimme Shelter sets the tone for an album that is filed with an iconic soundscape. The rawness of most of the tracks brings a nostalgia for a bygone era.

As my first Stones album, this is probably not the most exemplary Stones album, but it kinda also is? Feels like the Stones were so deep in their imperial phase, they didnt give a fuck by putting lushly produced epos right next to the blues. I'm feeling a light 4

Very excited to check out this album when the iconic album art popped up. I was aware that the Stones were mostly about rock & roll, but did not expect them to have already committed this hard to it in their 1969 album. Personally, I am not very interested in rock & roll, and lyrically I find the subject material of these tracks hard to relate to. Still gotta give it 4 stars. While I don't go out of my way to listen to this genre, I don't have anything against rock & roll at all, and Gimme Shelter is just that good.

Good good

i did not expect it to be this blunt and raunchy, i loved it

Pretty gosh darn good

Great album for that time.

My type of music! Rolling Stones is great!

So so, 4 song are very well

Started great with the classic Gimme Shelter, then lost me a bit, I thought I was gonna flop but really picked up at Let It Bleed and specially Midnight Rambler.

yeah great what do u want me to say.

Enjoyed a lot of this. A few of the rnb and blues inspired records didn't quite land, to the point where Jagger's voice annoyed me. That said, not many albums are bookended this well. A nostalgic four APPLIED. Nb: going through this list firmly settles any Stones v Beatles discussion, if it even existed in the first place...

Gimme Shelter alone elevates this to at least four stars, and You Can't Always Get What You Want keeps it there.

Another solid Stones

Mate the opening track is possibly one of the all time greatest songs ever made, the haunting vocals and screaming broken backing transend the earthly realm and human experience. The drive and slight distortion make a sound and a song that builds into something sublime. The rest of the album is mediocre covers and it finishes with what sounds like an insurance add. I always think this band is overated and this album hints at what they could have made if they had some nerve.

Took a while to appreciate the rest of the album in between the outstanding opening and closing tracks but this is a mighty fine album.

Well done, The Rolling Stones (claps politely), that was nicely executed. There were plenty of good tracks and you ended on a beautiful earworm. Highly enjoyable.

The bookends "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" are total bangers, just masterpieces. But the middle is not my favorite. Kinda honky-tonk-y rock and roll that doesn't really stand out and can be repetitive sounding at times.

A dark, moody album by the Stones. Themes of war, depression and anger. Not your straightforward rock and roll, big hints of country and R and B. Got great reviews, and the playing is superb, but they have done better. However, Gimme Shelter, possibly the best opening track ever, Midnight Rambler, Let It Bleed and You Can't Always Get What You Want stick it to you right in the gut.

Enjoyed this a lot. 'Gimme Shelter' is so good.

It's the Stones, of course it's good and this one has their straightforward rock compositions.

# 47 : A great rocking album with some of their classic hits on it. Bookended by two stone cold classics but with a collection of middle of the road rock tunes in between. Gimme Shelter

Great album, great band, great front man. Many believe the Rolling Stones to be the greatest rock band of all time. Hard to argue with that, their success and longevity have to put them up there.

In spite of a few misguided attempts at country, The Stones have managed to make their first essential record, with the tightest playing, most original direction and simply the best songs.

grandes mestres, com a primeira já mostram a que veio (gimme shelter)

Some iconic songs on here but not my fav stones record. A perfect 4

love the rolling stones, great album love in vain is my fave 8.5/10

Before listening to this album. I only knew Gimme Shelter (it was also my ringtone for years) and You Can’t Always Get What You Want. I’d only ever listened to The Stones hits before and never their album catalogue, so was curious when this popped up. Really enjoyable. Highlights ‘Live with Me’, and ‘Let it Bleed’

This is my third Rolling Stones album reviewed on this generator (the first two being Sticky Fingers and their self titled debut). This album is their 10th American studio album released, and marks a return to their more blues rock style of music. The album starts with an absolute jammer (Gimme Shelter). This song in and of itself is worth at least 3 stars. I thought Country Honk's lyrics were familiar. Turns out it is a country version of their song Honky Tonk Woman, which was released a few months earlier. Live With Me was the first song recorded with the Stones new guitarist Mick Taylor, after Brian Jones got kicked out of the band for drug abuse. Mick also played on Country Honk. Live With Me is also the first time the Stones recorded with saxophonist Bobby Keys. The London Bach Choir was brought in to assist with the recording of You Can't Always Get What You Want, providing the intro and outro accompaniment. Overall, this is a stellar album. I am a big fan of their more bluesy rock style. What an intro and outro to this album. Everything in the middle of the album pales in comparison, but is every bit as good in its own right. First time listening to this record cover to cover, but I will absolutely listen again! Favourite songs: Gimme Shelter, Country Honk, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Midnight Rambler, Let It Bleed Least favourite song: Love In Vain 4/5

Love the strumming in “love in vain” 4/5. So many hit singles. A little preachy. Liked the instrumentals a lot. Surprised by how country The Rolling Stones sound??

Classic, think this album sees the Stones coming into their own a little more consistently the that Aftermath period, Of course still incorporating that blues rock element but with more dimensions as seen on Monkey Man and Gimme Shelter. Personally no the biggest fan of this one but a classic nonetheless.

Solid album. Best tracks: You Can’t Always Get What You Want, Gimme Shelter, Love In Vain Worst tracks: You Got The Silver

Good tracks, possibly one of RS's best. It's a bit dated though, maybe it's the 1960,s technology but it sounds drab and lack lustre. Still, worth a listen

Bangers sprinkled among good dad rock. Gimme Shelter is a stupidly good song. Had a shot at 5, but the album sandwiches a bunch of mid between a killer opening and closing track. 4/5.

Musiikin soitantaa..

Even if youre not a fan of them, there are enough great songs here to merit a 4. Cool fusion of their blues style with some country and rock.

Again a very enjoyable blues rock album by the Stones, not as good as Sticky Fingers though

Very very good album. The bookend tracks are top 10 rolling stones songs. Not my favourite rolling stones album but very close

Released during a run of Classic albums (Beggars to Exile), Let It Bleed has a couple of undeniably essential tracks. You Can't Always Get What You Want, continues to be a live favorite, utilizing local choirs during their shows and the curious intrigue of songs like, Midnight Rambler and Gimme Shelter brought the Stones some darker notoriety during this time. The Stones show their range of styles on many tracks, country-blues, country-folk, gospel, Chicago blues and rock, that keep the music interesting. A great album, but there's a few tracks that fall short that prevent it from being one of their best.

beat stones record i’ve heard so far

Can't handle the stones, but this one is really ok

många bangers på denna! 4.2!

This was a lot better than any stones I've heard before

The best Stones album I've heard. The opener and the closer are two of the best pop songs ever written in Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want. In between it remains largely fleet footed and fun, avoiding some of the stodgy RAWK that fills up a lot of the Stones' albums. And Delia Smith's cake looks good too.

I don't care for the blues but this had some good songs.

Aside from the famous tracks I enjoyed the lead singing from keef, wished there was more lead guitar.

death, muUUURdeeeer... (whooo!) Highlights: Gimme Shelter, You Can't Always Get What You Want

Gimme Shelter to absolutne arcydzieło wokalne, reszta albumu tak co 2/3 piosenka spoko. Końcówka albumu nadrabia.

the first and last songs are legendary the middle is fine 4.5

You Can’t Always Get What You Want lifted this from 3 to 4. To me this is a three song album with Gimme Shelter, Monkey Man and You Can’t Always Get What You Want. The rest is kind of cheap blues impression filler. I’d probably go 3.5 with the option

Erinomaisen mieluisaa osastoa! 4/5

No täähän oli kova. Enpä ollut aiemmin syystä tai toisesta kuunnellut. Samaa kuin esim. Cosmo's Factoryssa, että alkaa hitaasti, mutta loppua kohti hyvää tykittelyä. Eli hyvä kaari.

Rollareilta erinomainen rokkilevy! 4/5

Great - 5 out of 9 are more or less essential. The slide guitar country tracks grow on you, but are not classic.

Really fun album from start to finish, classic rock

In the conversation for best opening and closing track on an album ever. Midnight Rambler and Monkey Man are two of The Stones best blues tracks. Love in Vain is a fun country romp, while Country Honk does exactly as the name implies. Live With Me starts out with a funky bass line and transitions into a classic Stones, sexy, pop song. You Got the Silver is an uncharacteristically personal song from The Stones, and a great setup to the end. The only dud might be the title track, a light knock on an otherwise top to bottom classic.

Some monster Stone tunes on this record, some that sound like jam sessions trying to mimic American music that happened to be recorded. Like a lot of Stones records there's some killer tunes, and some dudes, which I can live with.

Great album. Had never listened to a full Stones album before, only heard the hits. You can see why they had such broad appeal, the album has lots of different music styles, rock, jazz, country. Something for everyone and the opening and closing tracks are all time great songs.

The stones annoy the ever living hell out of me. Probably because of oversaturation from Classic Rock stations being played at nearly every hourly foodservice job I had as a kid, and I just couldn't escape them. Whiny Jagger, sloppy Richards, over-indulgent arrangements, and just being played all. the. time. I hate myself for saying this. I really really hate it. But this is a good album. Dammit. Just... ARGH urk- aksjkljlkakl;asjDkldsafkjgklhjk;akl;ha dsadsgtewr fd

Gimme Shelter is probably the best song I've heard on any album so far, and I have no idea how I've gone almost 25 years without ever hearing it before. Ultimately though, the album as a whole isn't anything I'll be rushing to revisit anytime soon.

All-time great band entering their peak. Songs hard, production simple but strong, and probably some of Jagger’s best vocal performances. The opener and closer do sort of carry the album, but they’re contenders for the best opener and closer I’ve ever heard so do I really care? Best song: You Can’t Always Get What You Want

Nice album but I didn't expect so much blues vibe. I don't think that second song fits rest of album well. Offcourse first and last song are great classics

Epic bread wraps a solid chug sandwich.

you can't always get what you want

Great record sandwiched by two outstanding tracks. The record does kinda dip towards the middle. A lot of people think this is just the Stones attempting country/honky tonk but I think they’re able to pull it off quite well.

Excellent, just excellent. Before this project I just wasn’t interested in the Stones at all. How wrong I was! I’ve been missing out for over 40 rotations of the sun. What a tit!

4. Enjoyed and would consider buying.

I don’t think I quite liked this as much as sticky fingers but this was a pretty good stones album. It honestly felt like a precursor to the real blues rock of sticky fingers, which I’m pretty sure it was. Gimme shelter was my favorite.

'Gimme Shelter' and 'You can't always get what you want' definitely carried this album, the rest of it was nice, but some songs did not really stand out to me, I am therefore giving it a 4/5. Would listen again.

Can hear the country/blues influence. Some timeless tunes in there and a great lesson: you can’t always get what you want

I have never been a huge fan of The Rolling Stones, but going through this album was a pleasant experience. A couple of classics on this album that are timeless. I think there were only one or two songs I didn't love, but by no means were they bad. The bluesy and at times country feel of this album really pulled me in. Stellar guitar tones and Mick Jagger's voice is phenomenal.

Gimme Shelter makes the album, but the rest was good to listen to too.

Get yourself a tampon. Don't just let it drip all over the carpet.

A lot of this album lives in the shadow of Gimme Shelter. That's as strong a start to an album as there ever was. Then this Country Honk song confused me more than delighted me. And this Midnight Rambler - this can't be the version I've heard most of my life. I must've been hearing a live version, probably? And then the whole closes out with another fantastic song. Those two songs are too good to just be 3 stars. I'll have to give the rest of it more listens.

Great Rock n" Roll Classic

First full stones album I’ve listened to. Obviously up there for best opener and closer on an album and all the in between songs have an equal amount of grittiness and levity.

Not just hornier Beatles. These guys might have some staying power.

4.5. They can't all be 5s

Gimme Shelter & You can't always get what you want are the obvious known classics. Not a huge Stones fan, but this is a very good album. The guiro at the start of GS is classic along with the shakers that come in later. The back up vocals are super powerful. Country Honk is a super cool in this version versus what you hear on the radio.

This is a great example of late 60s/early 70s British bluesy-rock. There’s a lot of late 60s/early 70s British bluesy-rock on this list. I’m not a huge fan of late 60s/early 70s British bluesy-rock though.

A surprisingly chill album from the Rolling Stones. It's nice!

I had to go through my history and being that this is the 5th? Rolling Stones album.... every single one I've said something about my not liking the Stones. Yet... I keep giving most of them 4s. What in the hell is going on here? So I guess I'll stay consistent... As one who is definitely not a "Stones fan" ... "Gimme Shelter" is still straight-up one of the greatest rock songs in history. This even while being firmly entrenched within the nauseatingly constant, repetitive, and limited identical classic rock playlist on two stations in every single market in North America (i.e. I've involuntarily heard the song 1000 times) ... every time I do hear it it's still fresh. It's totally hack at this point to point out the background vocals by Merry Clayton but...damn. My favourite part is while listening in headphones to hear Mick in the background sort of cheering her on in the bridge. Honestly that song is so good that it elevates the album nearly on its own - because there are a lot that I skip here. I actively do not like "country-Stones" (e.g. "Love In Vain" "Country Honk") so this album is a real mixed bag of nuts and nearly comes to a screeching halt after the amazing beginning. For my enjoyment, I have to pick out the few early nasty almonds and dry pecans and savour the cashews and peanuts (e.g. "Live With Me" "Midnight Rambler" "Monkey Man" "You Can't Always Get What You Want") - fortunately the ratio is tilted a bit in my favour and the best is comprised of some all-time greats. 7/10 4 stars.

Zelfde als andere, paar hele goede nummers

Such an epic and amazing album- really enjoyed it.

Love the country flavor…a subtle side of the Stones.

This is way more jangly and fun than I thought. Rolling Stone over Beatles for sure.

Rating: 7/10 Best songs: Gimme shelter, You can’t always get what you want

De sages mots

Opens with one of the greatest tracks of all time - not greatest Stones tracks, but songs by anyone. And finishes solid with the drawn-out Cant Always Get. However, it surprised me that I didn't recall the tracks in between as being so uneven. Probably just used to skipping Live With Me and You Got the Silver. 9-star album, but this time I gotta round down to stand Sticky Fingers at 5 stars.

I really liked this. The Rolling Stones at their bluesy best and bookended by two of their greatest and most epic songs. Rating: 4.5/5 Playlist track: You Can't Always Get What You Want Date listened: 18/02/23

This is my favorite Stones album. I’m not a super fan of the band’s career in general, but I can’t deny how amazing of a blues rock album this is. I mean, it’s the kind of work where, at the end of every song, you just shake your head in disbelief and wonder if it can get any better. And then it does. It accomplishes perfectly what it sets out to do: make a cool, swaggering record of tavern blues songs. The testosterone-driven hedonism is strong on this one.

Listened to on the 2/17/23 4/5 Favorite song: gimme shelter Started and ended with absolute bangers that are on literally every movie soundtrack

This is a great Stones release. Even the filler songs aren’t really filler. As a whole it just takes you in a journey because it’s bookended by two classics. Great production values have this sounding like a million bucks, the remastered version is even better.

Good album, good tracks, good hits.

Absolute classic.

When the album opens and closes with two of the strongest songs in the Rolling Stones’ catalog, one could be forgiven for assuming the middle’s not much to write home about. But songs like Midnight Rambler and Let It Bleed showcase the Stones’ willingness to diversify their sound and make it darker (and, poignantly, feature Brian Jones’ final contributions to the band he helped form).

One of their four best. Consecutive.

You can't always get what you want, but this record needs 4 stars.

Classic album in Rock 'n' Roll history. It has so many great songs. Standouts: Gimme Shelter, Country Honk, Let it Bleed, You Can't Always Get What You Want. 4/5

The Stones' greatest album openers and closers, sandwiching the band at their bluesiest-loosiest.

It's a good album but not the best Stones record. Some great singles like the opening song "Gimme Shelter" and "You can't always get what you want" but it got some lows in-between those songs. I would recommend listening to Sticky Fingers instead.

Good Stones album, great singing, not my favorite

Nice, some Stones on a Friday, I am into that! Gimme Shelter is for sure one of the best opening tracks of all time. It's hauntingly good, with its iconic and instantly recognizable opening notes. I had no idea Country Honk was actually Honky Tonk Women, that just blew my nose and then my mind. Live With Me is shockingly sarcastic and sneering, but I like it. Could very easily have been a punk song if written a decade later. This album is just full of little treats and surprises, and then it ends with a massive hit, another recognizable banger that's been used to soundtrack countless movies and TV shows. Let It Bleed is an unassuming sandwich that upon first bite you discover has actually been made of delicious high-quality luncheon meats sandwiched between two thick slices of the finest bread known to man. Kick-ass album cover too, just fantastic, should be hung up in the Louvre.

Big opener and closer. Odd country version of Honkey Tonk Woman, and and decent chilled numbers. Enjoyed this.

One of their best

First time I've heard this and i was going to give it a 5 but it's getting a high 4 instead, 4.7 to be precise. Proper enjoyed it on the first listen but not as much on the second. Hadn't heard Gimme Shelter for a while and it sets up the rest of the album perfectly with that girl belting it out. Was expecting a mid tracklist lull but midnight rambler and you got the silver are quality. Album finishes strongly

Great album, iconic songs. Mix of country to rock

Rambling is precisely the correct mode. The cohesion of the collection is gradual, its source largely the spread in length between A and B sides. But, as always, the Stones have a few hits and plenty of good playing.

Absolutely amazing bookends with “Gimme Shelter” and “Satisfaction.” Everything in between is decent blues rock, but nothing reaches near the (unattainable) level set by their biggest hits.

A couple of monster bookends here - Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want - elevate this album to a four. But even with the help of the somewhat reimagined Country Honky, there’s still too much here that’s just mediocre. And way too much twang for my money.

This album couldn’t start nor end any better than Gimme Shelter and You Can’t Always Get What You Want. The instrumentation on Gimme Shelter is brilliant. In between, I’m digging the blues stuff and even the country of Country Honk. I realized that I like the honky tonk style in limited, one song per album, amounts. I like the more familiar style of Honky Tonk Women, but hey, this works too. The lyrics for Let It Bleed are gross set to a nice blues track. Keith Richards’ guitar deserves to be commended. He was flying mostly solo with Brian Jones being unreliable during the recording sessions.

Without a doubt, the best Rolling Stones album.

This is where you remember that they have great stuff beyond the singles.

Today was my second time listening to this. I listened to it previously when I was trying to familiarize myself with famous classic rock albums. I don’t even know what to say about an album like this. It absolutely should be on this list. I don’t love all the songs but I think it’s a strong album.

Everyday more impressed by the Stones.

This is a classic and I don't think I'd ever listened to it! It was good as I expected.

Well enjoyed this! They're a household name for a reason. Just cool and fun and peak classic rock

I didn’t realize some of their more popular songs were that old. It also had a honky tonk vibe which was surprising.

I don't usually consider the Stones an album band, but this is very solid. that starting and closing are huge.

Typical Stones album - a couple of very well known tracks, one or two tracks that are highly rated by afficionados of the group and four or five fillers. Overall it depends on whether one likes the famous tracks or not, and in this case they are two of the best Stones songs of all time - Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want. The tracks for the afficionados are Let It Bleed and Midnight Rambler - both are OK. Overall one of the Stones better albums.

first listen it's a fine album

Take out the 5/5 tracks that start and end this album and its position at the very top of the Stones tree looks a little shakier: there's some filler (Country Honk) and some 3/5ers alongside great tracks like Monkey Man and Love In Vain. So 4/5 it is.

Decent album with a couple hits. Not their best. Not even sure if it’s top 1,000 of all time.

Pretty solid for my first album! I liked that the music was chill to listen to especially while studying, although it’s def not what I listen to normally (sort of a dark undertone?)

Listened to it previously.

I know it's sacrilege for me to say this given my Gen X demographic and how hugely popular the Stones were and are amongst Gen Xers and Baby Boomers, the people with whom I grew up, but I'm not a very ardent Stones fan. Fewer of their songs grab me and resonate with me than my peers. That being said, when their songs do grab me, they REALLY grab me. This album has a handful of those. For example, this album has "Gimme Shelter", which if I had to pick a favorite Stones song, this one might be it. I just adore Keith's guitar work on that track. And Merry Clayton's vocal work...please, I beseech you all, run, don't walk, to your nearest streaming service and watch the documentary '20 Feet From Stardom'. I promise you'll never hear "Gimme Shelter" the same way again, in the best possible way. You'll also get a whole lot more out of that film. Back to the album: I'm less interested in their country-flavored stuff. I like it better when they lay down a nice blues groove as they do in some of these songs and on some other albums. Even though I've heard the song "You Can't Always Get What You Want" a bit too often, I have a soft spot for it because I associate it with a film I liked in my late teens and early 20s, 'The Big Chill'. I do understand this album's place in history. And I really did enjoy listening to it all the way through for the first time in a mighty long time. Solidly classic for a reason.

Pretty good

Gimme shelter and you can’t always get what you want are great

Some of their best songs, sprinkled - like many of their albums - with a few blues/country clunkers. Take out 2-3 songs and this album is perfect.

Pretty great!

It's still odd to hear "early" Stones when they were obviously fighting to figure out if they were a rock band or a country band. Ultimately, they made the right choice. Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are standouts (obviously) - the perfect opener and closer. Hearing "Country Honk" was pretty cool too. The album really give you a sense of who the Stones were and where they were headed (sans Bryan).

Legendary band & album. Saw the Stones in 2019 with the full lineup before Charlie Watt passed & Gimme Shelter was one of the best live songs I've ever seen. Hard to not know what to expect from this album but always fun to listen to.

Exceeded my expectations to be honest. The Stones seemed to be on to something with this album, the rootsy blues mixed with a pop sensibility seemed like a formula for success. The actual production is diverse enough to keep the album interesting, and tracks like the ominous “Gimme Shelter” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” form part of the canon of rock and/or roll. On the whole, a very decent album.

Rock and roll baby, 4 stars

Hey, it's a Rolling Stones album that has more than one song I know! I guess Aftermath had two as well, but this one's got "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want," both heaters in their own right. One of the things this journey has taught me is that I'm not super fond of Stones albums. I like their music, they've got a smattering of classic songs, but it's just harder for me to sink my teeth in and enjoy them at long play. That said, I do think this is a stronger album, one of the better ones we've heard in my opinion. I think it's pretty great, with a few songs I also will hang onto aside from the big two. Is this as good as they will get for me? We shall see. Favorite tracks: You Can't Always Get What You Want, Gimme Shelter, Midnight Rambler, You Got the Silver. Album art: Really do enjoy this one, for me the most iconic Stones cover. Are we to believe all of these stacked circular objects are balancing on the spindle at the center of a turntable? Not idea, but it's very cool to look at, and has a nice saturated, '50s America texture to it that I appreciate. 4/5

Not a fan of The Rolling Stones' country tracks as much as their blues material, but this is pretty nice. 'Gimme Shelter' is a damn masterpiece. Favourite tracks: - Gimme Shelter - YCAGWYW - Monkey Man - Midnight Rambler Overall Grade: 8/10

"Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" are the high points at either end of the album. The rest of the album has a blues/country influence.

Classics.

Excellent musicianship, Mick Jagger is very lukewarm on some of the vocals, though. He really benefits from having background singers. He's fascinating visually though, and lends a great deal to performances.

Some fun songs and great vibes on this album. I liked this more than I thought I would!

3.9 - enjoyed this a lot. The messiness and rawness of Stones really comes through.

How many five star tracks does it take to get stars? There's 2, possibly 3, on here - and two of the best ever. Still a bit wanky outside those though

Great start and end and solid middle. Would agree with Tom's 4.5 on average so getting a 4 to get the combo score

Almost got a 5 star just for Gimme Shelter alone. Not in love with all the country-ish influences (just not my thing), but this is undeniably a great album

An album that epitomizes the Stones. It was a relatively short album but a lot happens in these 40 minutes. Give Me Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want are the mega hits and book end the entire album. These songs by themselves warrant a high rating. The songs in the middle are good for the most part. Love in Vain is ok. Country Honk is the worst song on the album and shouldn't exist. Live with Me is good and a nice pick up after the previous two songs. Let It Bleed is alright carries on a little too long. Midnight Rambler was really good, it is the second longest song on the album, and carries on a little too long too. The blues was fun though. You Got The Silver was alright and is just kind of there. Monkey Man is good and nice song after the previous one. I am not sure I would listen to the entire album from start to finish again, but I definitely will listen to some of the songs again.

Classic stones album

A fantastic album by the stones. This album has arguably two of their best songs on it. One starts it and the other finishes it. In between that I’d a bluesy rock middle that picks up with let it bleed. It’s not the other songs aren’t good it’s just the good ones on this album are way above the rest. It’s still a really good album. 8.5/10

Very good, would recommand.

Really enjoyed it the standout is gimme shelter

Nice clean early Stones. Good licks along the way

Very blues album. Enjoyed it.

I’d listen again. :)

I didn’t give this one the attention it deserves. I loved hearing it as background music to grading papers and cleaning house. I will come back to it happily, which is evidence for me that it’s a 4 minimum.

Especially satisfying to bookend this album with two absolute classics. Definitely an album with lots of replay power. There are a couple puzzling tracks here but that's mild criticism.

Went down well. Very strong opening and closing. Good. Bill - 3.5 Conor - 3.75 Shannah - 4 (3.75/5)

I grew up in a household with a brother 7 years older so The Stones and the Beatles were my first soundtrack, even though i was only half way through primary school when Let It Bleed was released. Mick's drawl and elastic mouth, the distorted lyrics, they bring back a lot of memories. I loved some of their stuff and the closing track, You Can't Always Get What You Want was an awesome anthem to close out the 60s, (genius to have a classical choir as your backing vocals!) The influence of early black American blues artists is all over the Stones' tracks and this album is a case in point.

Some classic songs here, and a nod to all time great blues man Robert Johnson with "Love in Vain". Gospel influenced Gimme Shelter is a fantastic opening track and more political lyrics than I'd ever realised. Very heavily blues influenced throughout. I really liked You Got the Silver, a sweet song with great instrumentation build.

Þeirra besta plata. Ekki mikið pretentiousness á ferðinni. Bara hrár veruleikinn. Merry Clayton bjargar þeim fyrir mér.

I really enjoyed this. It's got some of their best songs on it. I wasn't sure about the monkey man one, and I've never been convinced by the choir bit at the start of You Can't Always Get What You Want, but yeah, great album.

On Gimme Shelter Merry Clayton is by far the star. And Keith Richard’s guitars are the star for the rest of the show. Jaggers vocals are hokey and clownish on Country Honk, and I know it’s intentional, but it’s silly and unnecessary. The rest of the album makes up for that in a big way though. I’m not a Stones fan, but this record is undeniably pretty fantastic.

This is hard to rate. "Gimme Shelter" and "Get What you Want" are so a part of my life I don't even know when i first heard them. They're in movies, tv, and on the radio. The rest of the album was fine but with out those two songs, I don't think this album would be on the list.

A good album by one of the originals. Some classics on this one.

Olipahan mukava levy.

Rollarit…

It's like a well matured album I guess. A rewarding listen. I've mentioned my parents on all Rolling Stones reviews so far so here's another mention. Fave: hard to pick one but I did particularly enjoy You Can't Always Get What You Want.

Classic gospel inspired late Rolling Stones end of the 60s blues rock

I would definitely be Beatles rather than Stones - this hasn't changed that.

I think my favourite stones so far. A low four, still not lighting my world on fire but definitely enjoyable and a couple of songs that will still sound good a hundred years from now.

Gimme Shelter is a perfect opening track, and You Can't Always Get What You Want is a perfect closing track. Everything else in the middle is really solid but just kind of falls by the wayside in comparison Can I give an album a 5/5 based off just two songs? I'm incredibly tempted but I think a 4 is more accurate for the entire album experience. They're two very very good songs though

Obviously familiar with the Rolling Stones, but I've never listened to a whole album of theirs before. 1. Gimme Shelter - Already had this saved. Amazing. 10/10 2. Love In Vain - Nice and blues-y. Like it a lot. Saved. 8/10. 3. Country Honk - Well-constructed country song. Just not really my style. 7/10 4. Live With Me - Liked it, but nothing special. 6/10 5. Let It Bleed - Enjoyable rock song. Saved. 7.5/10. 6. Midnight Rambler - Fun song, didn't love it. 7/10 7. You Got The Silver - Weakest song so far. 5/10 8. Monkey Man - Nice tune. Loved the guitars. 7/10 9. You Can't Always Get What You Want - Obviously an iconic song. I really dislike the choir at the beginning, but the rest is obviously great. 9/10 Overall my initial instinct is to rate it 4/5. Solid album.

Tremendo. Gimme Shelter es una de mis favoritas y Can't Always Get What you Want es épica

4.6 - Part of an incredible run of albums around '67-72. Two songs have justifiably become part of the rock canon ("Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get..."). I actually prefer "Country Honk" to "Honky Tonk Women." Jagger's unbridled enthusiasm is often magnetic but can sometimes end up sounding goofy. I hear that goofiness on "Love in Vain" and "Let it Bleed" - the weaker tracks on the album -though they are fine blues recordings. "Midnight Rambler" meanders into an interesting extended breakdown in the middle. "Monkey Man" is another deeper cut worth revisiting - some gorgeous piano arpeggiation that melds with some terrific guitar work. Overall, very full and satisfying.

really great album, some of the hits but also some songs i had never heard and thought were really great.

Really like this, I enjoy the way country influence creeps in. Mick Jagger's singing is sometimes really distracting, but the majority of the time it works. I was driving along the Mississippi listening to this, and it was perfect for the drive and the scenery.

It's iconic, of course. Unfortunately the rest of the song don't hit the emotional highs of the first and last track. I feel like everyone has said anything that needs to be said here, but I could take or leave half the album in a personal listening session. Still, when it rocks it rocks hard.

Great album, really enjoyed

Great album.

Not my favorite stones album but four stars just the same. Not wildly creative writing but still absolute, all time classics that you can hear over and over without getting bored with them. Was never a fan till I saw them live. Two of the greatest shows I've ever seen.

Classic.

Good music

Brilliant - found a couple of new songs I hadn’t heard before but will definitely listen to again.

Bloody good

Melhor música: Gimme Shelter

Muito Bom.

The Stones best album of the 60’s

okay this shit in the late 60s had to fucking hit. fucking banger of an album

An absolute amazing Rolling Stones album that has some of their best songs on. "Midnight Rambler" is my favourite Stones song, and classics like "You Can't Always Get What You Want," "Monkey Man," "Gimme Shelter," make this album a pure feast for the ears. An album well worth a listen on headphones as well, there is just so much happening. Only 4* from me though, because as an album, there are songs I already started skipping on second listen, like "Love In Vain" and are not up to the high standard of some of the previous mentioned songs.

Rock blues

Very bluesy, nice overall. Can't always get what you want is a banger

Here it is: An album that 100% belongs on this list, but that I don't particularly adore. It's a very, very good album, highlighting the versatility (and, yes, utter weirdness) of the Stones, but I have to take one star off for the fact that Gimme Shelter--my fave track--s a total monster of a song, and everything after that feels like a shadow of that greatness. Don't get me wrong. Every track is worth a listen. Is the entire album worth a listen? Hell yeah. Would I say that any track on here is nearly as good as Gimme Shelter? No. I have a special love for this song because of the strange story behind it: a pregnant lady was pulled out of bed in the middle of the night, still in her curlers, to record the background vocals for this track. No wonder she sounds so damn intense.

Listen. It has the biggest hits, and my personal fav, "Country Honk". I may not be a Stones fan, I'm also not an idiot.

Volim ih, ali mi ovo nije njihov najbolji. Al su nastale legendarne pisme kao let it bleed i you can't always get what you want

Dosta dobro, jako kul vajb, najbolji instrumentali dosad!! Love in vain zvuci ko tamburica i bas mi se svida (??)

Absolutely iconic album with some of the most memorable songs ever written. It’s impact is seen everywhere and riffs will ring out until the end of time itself.

Incredible beginning and ending tracks to to a great album overall. A couple of tracks I could do without but, but even those are good. Overall a classic album

The air of dread and menace captured on Gimmee Shelter is spine tinglingly atmospheric and the album closer You Can’t Always Get What You Want is a brilliant epic record to float away on. Has their ever been a more momentous album opener/closer? In between, some brilliant musicians play some catchy, engaging tunes of music they enjoy.

Legendarisch album met zoveel hits, echt de pinnacle van rock&roll

Easy to listen too, nothing too complicated and good fun. Liked the American roots influences......

This is the third Rolling Stones album we got and probably the best one. Their blend of blues and classic hard rock just works out really well on this one. As always, the difference between their best and worst songs is huge. You Can't Always Get What You Want is fantastic. All of the rest of the album is in a lower league, but still absolutely decent.

I liked it a lot. "Gimme Shelter" is one of my RS favorites. Not a perfect album, but damn near.

i will preface this by stating that, from a young age, i never really cared for the stones. i was a beatles kid all the way - they were just _nice_, y'know? whereas mick & co just kinda seemed kinda more seedy, which i didn't so much care for back then. couple decades later, i feel like i've heard everything they have to say on various job sites, and i don't ever need to hear them again. but then somewhere in between, i heard a couple of covers of their work, and i thought i should try harder to appreciate them. i had...some success, but not a ton. i don't think i'll ever be their biggest fan, is what i'm saying. all that on board, here's the thing: shelter is a classic for a reason; can't always get? same. let it bleed - amazing. and to have done it all in '69? huge. the love i don't have for them isn't their fault, is what i'm saying - i just happened to have been born in a place & time where they were just kinda...there.

Didn't realize the country cover on here.
