Reviews (page 8 of 9)

Ace of spades goes pretty hard. The rest of instrumentals and vocals feel a little repetitive, nothing special here. 2*

Rating: 4/10 Awful vocals, awful lyrics, and very one-dimensional songwriting. I appreciate the energy of the band and some ideas are good but overall I do not care for this album. Ace of Spades is great though.

Only liked Ace of Spades, the voice of the singer was too distracting for me

Jailbait - it's as problematic as it sounds, probably more. Ace of Spades is pretty much the standout but Fast and Loose adds some variety with blues-y rockiness, almost Clutch-esque

Not my taste

Peruspaskaa sai päähän laittaa

I choose in my life to constantly make fun on the leading track, Ace of Spades, because Lemmy's voice is so unique its hard not to pay attention to that track. It wouldn't be a notable song without the delivery, but I understand that pulling people in. Lucky for those people, every single other song here is the exact same track but chopped up with different lyrics, some far more disgusting than others. Its fine in short bursts, but a whole album of it, even at only thirty minutes, can lead anyone to groaning every time a track starts and it sounds the exact same as the last one, two, three, etc, etc. I get why those looking for a pick me up would like the rough energy of this, but nearly everything about this has aged like milk, and it feels only like it passes due to the joy I feel singing "MY ASS IS GAY!" to the tune of "The ass of spades!" Its a cathartic experience, truly, and gives me some amount of pleasure, which I feel deserves it some indirect credit.

Lots of energy, not much else.

Hard Rock, Metall, 1980 -> 2

A song called "Jailbait" does not age well.

All the tracks sounded EXACTLY the same. The guitar was pretty good. Vocals were scratchy and atonal

Interesting. If I didn't know this was Motorhead, I couldn't have placed it between 1978 or so and today.

Pretty rough

Guess I'm not a Motörhead fan. I am, however, a ¨ fan.

Not as bad as I thought it would be. Has a very 70s hard rock mixed with Guns N Roses feel to it (ignoring the vocals which for me don't match the quality of the guitars and bass). This is certainly much more listenable than early Metallica for me.

Never really got into Motorhead. Too much noise, not enough substance

They're like if toxic masculinity was a band. Some pretty wild wah effect solos though.

Glimpses of hope, but mostly mediocrity. Don't think I'll find replay value in here

Jailbait aged well

Not for me. I’ve always loved “Ace of Spades” and was excited to expand my knowledge of Motörhead. But every song was just “Ace of Spades” with different lyrics.

Wenig Abwechslung

The whole album sounds similar. Lemmy growling with heavy guitars. I've never listened to an entire Motorhead album and don't need to again.

Just don't like metal

Wow. I am not into this. Made it halfway through. It’s not a texture I care for.

One track career

Lemmy created an entire persona millions of people copied. The problem is Lemmy was not overly talented and also a pedophile. The title track is good, I liked Fire, Fire also. I thought the last few songs were decent. But overall this has not aged well, Lemmy did not age well. Motörhead’s greatest accomplishment is influencing Metallica, for that alone it gets a low 2 star rating 3.9/10

I am not and probably will not become a fan of trash metal. Too loud, rough, sans finesse.

This probably just will not be my thing, don't really like metal but I'll be open minded! The guitar riffs are cool i feel like this would be really cool live. jailbait gross song ew

Feels like more of the same song each time, probably because of the way Lemmy is singing. Its not for me, never has been.

Known before: Band/Some songs Standouts: / 3.5/10

Known Before: Band Standouts: 11. The Chase is Better Than the Catch 4.0

As an album, it's not that remarkable to me. Some solid riffing and playing. Lemmy's voice is very unique/charismatic. However, Ace of Spades is one of the best rock songs of all time.

It's really not my kind of music. It's not bad it's just not what I'd choose to listen to.

Motorhead is considered hard rock royalty and an influence to many rockers. I of course knew the Ace of Spades song, but my only other familiarity with the band was HHH's Time to Play the Game entrance theme. We Are the Road Crew was a nice homage to the roadies, but every song was really, really similar. Lemmy's voice rocks in small doses, but this isn't an album or band I want to hear on repeat.

Every song sounds the same. Ace of Spades was fun only cos I already know it. Not for me.

It’s alright. It is a tad boring and repetitive and I’m not impressed with the songwriting in any way, but it is pretty good driving music.

The title song still rocks - Ace of Spades is a classic. Jail Bait is disgusting. Everything else sounds pretty much the same and is nothing special. Very meh album.

Lemmy sounds like he destroyed his vocal chords before this album. Not sure how he kept singing for another 30ish years. Again, metal isn't my style. I made it 3 tracks in before deciding I wasn't going to hear anything that was much different from the first 3. Some nice riffs but this just isn't for me.

Ace of Spades is a classic, but this isn't an album I'd spin through again.

Pluses for influencing the course of metal and Ace of Spades ripping/the energy getting me through the last Thanksgiving dishes. Minuses for it mostly all sounding the same and Jailbait being truly hard to listen to. Bonus for learning about Girlschool/the extra session musicians being a bunch of punk chicks.

Getting strong "old man yelling at clouds" vibes from this, but in an almost endearing sort of way. The lead singer has no business being a lead singer - none, but dammit if he ain't doing his darnedest. And after all, that's all any of us can really ask for ain't it? Best song "The Road Crew" Worst song "Jailbait" ♠️♠️

2.5 Ace of Spades is a great song. There are some other good songs and a lot of filler.

The instrumentals here are amazing and apparently very much my kind of music. Remove the vocals and I would listen to this possibly forever.

I didn't like this album because it's little too wild for me and heavy metal isn't my favorite genre. Moreover, for me every song almost sounded the same. 2.4

Mir hat das Album weniger gut gefallen. Keine schlechte Musik, aber sie macht mich nervös, hektisch und aggressiv! 4.2/10

Oof. Some nice sounds but otherwise way to heavy metal for my taste. 2 out of 5

meaningless sludge that all blends together. would most likely be best listened to if you need something in the background while you’re doing a task that requires a high amount of [technical] concentration. even then, i personally wouldn’t seek it out for that purpose. gets more aggravating the more i pay attention to it.

Maybe its bc I was listening to this album while writing a midterm but by abt halfway through the album I got annoyed. Its fine. just generic dad rock. Sorry if this is supposed to be a good album.

sounds like being trapped in a demon bar. i like ace of spades, but the rest of the album is consistently not really my thing. some pretty awful lyrics here... also fun fact: "the hammer" in question? maxwell's silver, of course

boo 🍅🍅🍅 I was bored and unimpressed. lyrics made me think mr. lemmy’s personality might just be worse than his voice.

this is the most amount of metal/hard rock i have listened to at once voluntarily... and you know what... i wouldn't do it again but i did not entirely hate it. honestly ace of spades is the one song i might listen to again, but the rest of the album sort of blurs into one big \"mediocre rock band at the bar you go to for your office party\", right down to the awful lyrics. I can see why this did best commercially. not for me! especially \"jailbait\"... what are we doing man, cmon

Some of the lyrics haven't past the test of time

Everyone should listen once AND THEN MOVE ON!

I actually really like the unique way the lead singer sounds. Makes them stand out from other bands of a similar style. It kind of all blends together after a bit, and I just find myself listening to noise. Noise that I like, but I'm not paying attention to what I'm listening to.

Fine but not my vibe

Bit too intense for me, and didn't need the 2nd disc. Obviously the opening track is a banger but i'm never going to put the whole album on for it.

I made it 7 songs in and yeah they kind of suck

Todo el rato igual ...

Some dubious lyrics, not my thing

The reason why people only know Ace Of Spades and not any other song is because that is the blueprint for the rest of the album.

Ace of Spades baby. Incredible song. Not much else for me here.

Huh, so it's just Ace of Spades with 12 different sets of lyrics? The other songs aren't bad, since Ace of Spades is obviously a great song. But it's tiring to take in as an album.

Ace of Spades is amazing. The rest of the album is pretty tame by today's standards.

can the losers on these albums get through one singular record without shoving their foot so deep in their mouth it comes out their ass? the answer when we come back. the weird horny is just so expired lol. the metal cowboy thing is cool when it works on ace of spades and shoot you in the back

Not for me. I find the whole NWOBHM scene as boring, cliche and predictable. I think I had this as a teenager when I was much more susceptible to this sort of thing, and even then it didnt do much for me. Ace of Spades just repeated but slightly differently, and even that isnt a great song really. 1.5

Had highish hopes for this, ace of spades is great, album was just over half an hour long, thought it would be a quick, enjoyable rock album. Actually turned it off about four songs in the first time, was very bored. All of the songs are essentially worse variations of ace of spades. In hindsight it makes sense but I didn't think Lemmy was such a creepy fucker either, bit disappointing. Jailbait can't have been acceptable at the time, he's telling everyone he's a nonce! Also surprised to hear he's not from some desert town in USA, but stoke-on-trent. Should be singing about oatcakes and pots really. Ace of spades is brilliant, everything else is awful, let's say 2.

Ace of Spades is great, but the rest of the album (mercifully short) is a rehash of it. I did find the album OK to have on in the background though, which says something about how good Ace of Spades is. Some of the lyrics are a little odd to say the least. Lemmy seemed fascinating.

I've listened to Ace of Spades so many times because of Tony Hawk Pro Skater, it's a great song. The rest of the album is very meh. I don't understand why they made Jailbait, what an awful and cringy song to make. The Chase Is Better Than The Catch ain't much better either. This album loses a star just for those. Highlights: Ace of Spades Shoot You In The Back

Gøy ein gang i blant, men ikkje heilt i mi gata ellers

Much of the same

Æi, ekki alslæmt skyldi maður fíla röddina, en mér finnst svona hart rokk ekki lengur málið. Hlustaði ekki á textana, en skilst líka að þeir séu sumir problematískir.

It's basically the same thing for thirty some minutes. Some of the lyrics are gross. I don't mind Ace of Spades, but I'll probably like it less now because I listened to the whole album. Not great. My favourite song is Ace of Spades.

it's ok. none of the songs really stand out but the title track is decent

Album #: 238 first impressions: back to our usual programming, i guess -- british rock dudes beloved by dads after listening through: these guys sure play rock music fast and loud post-reading reviews/wiki: pioneers in thrash metal; not really a genre i enjoy, but i suppose i understand why this album is on here & didn't suffer any more for listening to it than I did w/ yesterday's Limp Bizkit album... recommended for: comical getaway scene in a film set in the 80s

If the first title track is this band's magnum opus, I'm in for a bad ride here. They are sloppy, not in a good way. They do sound like they are enjoying themselves though.

No me gustó. Tiene alguito en la música pero la voz es malísima.

jailbate? girl what

Ok. Lyrics were a bit creepy in some songs. Songs sounded very same. 2/5

nice energy, quite muddy mix, bit fatiguing

oh my god ace of spades is such a fucking tune

This is frustrating. The music, the instruments, are really good. His voice is rough but it fits the feel. But the lyrics are so simple and frankly problematic that it ruins it. Glorifying pedophilia is not cool. I bet they'd be awesome shows if not populated by the Sturgis crowd. And that's who would be there. This also only has one level. Yeah. 2.

The title track is very good but the rest of this is samey and also has some weird noncey lyrics. Title track gives it more than 1*.

Wow that was lowkey the same song 12 times. And sometimes I liked the song, but by the end yeah I was kinda tired of it. Jailbait’s gonna bring it down a point. Best song: Ace of Spades but it could probably be any of them

Pretty much what I expected really. Ace of Spades is great, but the rest of the album is just mindless monotony. Also Jailbait and the Chase are creepy AF

Rocks hard. I’ll let other people enjoy it.

tracks : ace of spades [3] love me like a reptile [2.5] shoot you in the back[2] live to win[1] fast and loose[1] (we are) the roadcrew [3] fire fire[3] jailbait[2] dance[2] bite the bullet[1.5] the chase is better than the catch[1] the hammer [2] RATING : 2

This album is very much just alright. Ace of Spades is a great single and if you've heard it you've heard the entire album honestly. The entire album sounds very similar and there's barely any differences between the songs. I'm not saying it's a bad thing but in my eyes this makes this album just fine.

Ace of Spades!!! The only Motörhead song I know but I do love it. The heavy drums and bass are awesome but after a while the songs do meld into one another.

Every song sounded the same, like it was something my tenth grade stoner friends made in their band

Hmm. I think it might be quite true that this was a strong influence on a lot of other heavy metal artists. I acknowledge that. However, I found this repetitive and boring and sometimes offensive (jailbait).

I didn't enjoy this one...not that I was expecting to, but it was tough to make it through the album. I did make it through every track, except Jailbait, but it was an unenjoyable task. I mean, there were moments when the driving rhythm and guitars were a bit catchy, but on pretty much every track I was just waiting for it to end.

Not my favorite brew, but refreshing compared to the beta albums I've recently been subjected to.

This album was kinda like eating donuts. The first song was pretty good, I kinda wanted another. The second one was enough. The third was a bit much, I’m feeling a bit full now. Then we get a fourth, a fifth, a sixth…by the 12th I was about ready to roll over and die. One at a time would have been much more enjoyable probably

This album was decidedly not made for me. I can appreciate the musicianship, but that's about it. 2/5

The link between Sex Pistols and GnR, but the drums really grated on me after a while. And the less said about Jailbait the better…

Title track is great, the rest is fine and exactly as expected. Was going to give this a 3 but have to take off a star for Jailbait, yikes

Bon mais un peu redondant. Malheureusement, l'enregistrement date des années 70. Donc le son n'est pas parfait.

Sounds all pretty much the same, unfortunately. Knew Ace of Spades before. But still, kinda gets you hyped. + Ace of Spades + Live to Win

It's just 12 variations of the same song. Granted, that song is "Ace of Spades" but, even at a relatively short 36 minutes, it wears on you.

A voice only a mother could love. One banger, all filler

Definitely not my cup of tea, the singer's voice is pretty grating but I can see the appeal of the instruments. Makes you want to drive fast. Gets a little repetitive though, and many of the songs sound the samey to me, which made the album kind of drag.

Was Ace Of Spades on a Tony Hawk game back in the day? For some reason it reminds my of Tony Hawk. It’s one of those songs that everybody has heard of, isn’t it? Even if you’re not into rock much at all, you know Ace Of Spades. Not sure I’ve ever heard anything else by Motörhead, but there you go. Songs I already knew: Ace Of Spades Favourites: Ace Of Spades Ok, so it turns out that if you’ve heard Ace Of Spades then you’ve basically heard the whole album. The guitar solos are remarkably similar in each song, and I’d bed that if you played Fire Fire and Ace Of Spades at the same time that you wouldn’t even notice there were two different songs playing. The elephant in the room on this album is the song Jailbait. It feels bad to speak ill of the dead, so I’ll just state the facts. In this song, Lemmy sings about how he wants to “taste” a teenager. It’s pretty damn weird, and made what was a decent (if not very samey) album, into something much weirder.

Fine, was in the mood for it originally but I swiftly tired of it

A couple of bangers but felt somewhat relieved when it was over

Wasn't really my thing. Hope this site doesn't recommend more dad rock to me...

Seemed to go all downhill after the first song. I had to stop after an hour.

I’m not a fan.

some of these are boppish but the cringey lyrics overtake the good licks

Rock N Roll...but not for me.

As far as Metal goes, Motorhead has a special place as their impact on aesthetics and attitude have transcended more than mainstream Pop/Hair Metal. That being said, this album has only one major breakthrough hit "Ace of Spades" with several homogeneous filler tracks that don't necessarily elevate or push any boundaries. While that isn't a bad thing, it does hold the effort back.

The Ace of Spades, The Ace or Spades, The Ace of Spades, The Ace of spades… That’s about all I remember from this early 80’s metal. AoS was always on rotation while listening to old school metal.

Cool for the genre

New to me. I was never much of a heavy metal guy but this included snippets seemingly left over from punk, which I appreciated. Conceivably I’ll listen to one or two tracks again someday.

Y'a eu un bug c'était 12 fois la même chanson je crois

je ne regrette pas d'avoir repoussé cette écoute j'aurais même pu attendre plus je crois

A precursor to butt rock????? Idk not really feeling it. Songs sounded too similar for my taste

Every song is basically the same, but it's pretty fun. Some really dodgy lyrics in one of the songs in particular (Jailbait) which is a bit grim. It's an odd kind of music, it's simple like 50s rock & roll (Dance in particular sounds like this) but with louder guitars. Not really for me, one track of it is fine (particularly when it's Ace Of Spades), but it gets very samey very quickly. 2/5.

Too heavy for me

just not for me

Ooof, Imran it wasn’t terrible, just not for me for a full album.

While I knew the title track and had heard Road Crew, the rest of the album was new to me. And it's cool. It's a bit same-y, of course, but at the same time, I was impressed with how much variety they managed to get given that Lemmy has a very narrow range as a singer and they are a three-piece band. Anyway, I dug it for what it is. Interesting middle-ground between punk and metal. Docking one star for Jailbait, though

54/100: The song Ace of Spades is really good, but this album is one of those that really tests your promise to listen to every album all the way through before writing a review. By three songs into the album, I knew this was going to be a tough listen. The album “Ace of Spades” is aptly named, because it’s essentially just the song “Ace of Spades” and 11 variations of it. When the distinct part of your musical style is just playing loud and fast, it’s hard for any song to stand out as unique. I won’t listen to this album again, I had a hard enough time listening to it once through.

Back in the day I was a dastardly street magician. I would take advantage of drunken idiots for a small fee and perform ‘magic’. This one time I got caught by a fella who happened to see my trick deck and noticed every card was the Ace of Spades, I was mortified. “The gig is over mate, you’re done for unless….” He started to unzip his pants and said “I’ll let it slide if you Love me Like a Reptile”. I said to him “turn around then”. He obliged and as he turned around I pulled out my trusty revolver (this isn’t a metaphor) and I said “I’m going to Shoot you in the Back”. Bang. He was on the floor bleeding out and I said to him “we are very different people you and I. I don’t do this for sport, I Live to Win”. At this point I walked away, leaving him to enjoy his final few minutes face down in the dark street. I was in such a high and went into the night looking for a woman, someone who is Fast and Loose. It was as if someone could hear my thoughts because these hot chicks pulled up out of nowhere smelling of cigarettes and leather. “We are the Roadcrew”, this one firecracker stated. She walked up to me I noticed my piece. At this point it could of been a metaphor as I was ready. She took my gun and the other chick, hair looking like a premium firework silhouetted in front of the moonlight. “Fire Fire” she yelled whilst shooting my gun into the air. In a daze, I didn’t take into consideration what attention this brought to the alley we were in which was now lit up by red and blue lights. As ominous the arrival was of these chicks, their departure was as if they were all smoke and mirrors. I was done for. As the metal clasped my cold sweaty wrists, one cop said “you’ll be jailbait in a few hours you little punk”. I was thrown into a cell. Alone with my thoughts still not really understanding where it all went wrong. Why was I so comfortable in shooting that man? Is this something I have done before? Why can’t I remember anything before that incident? A big brute came pacing outside my cell, caressing the bars with his fingers “You have no idea what you’ve done do you? We’ve been looking for you for months and at the sight of a bit of pussy, you let your guard down. You’re fucked now, that was your last dance”. I had no answer. I guess this is is, I have to bite the bullet. Considering they have been searching for me for months and now I am within 6 feet of every cop in this town, they sure do not seem too happy. Maybe the Chase is better than the catch after all. With this in mind I thought I would oblige. Why does this have to be over? We can continue this game can’t we? I could see that this 300lb fucker had all the tools on him to take down a small army. I could see the seam of his pants partially covering a gun in is boot. He had two guns on each side of his hip and what looked like a blade in his back pocket. I walked over to the cell and he seemed to appear smaller the closer I walked to him. He looked scared which made me start to question what kind of things I had been doing outside? This guy who was safe on the other side of the cell started to tremble. He was so scared he couldn’t even look me in the eye. His head looking down at my hand he has now realised that is his terrified state I have taken one of his guns and he knows that he’s the one fucked. We are both fucked but at least I will be the one who sees this guy get fucked. I pull back the hammer “In a bit dickhead” Not really my cup of tea that album.

This is way out of my wheel house and I just can’t say I love the genre. My low rating is just personal preference based.

eh not for me. Leather strapped cowboys are a funny visual though

Motorhead's lead singer does not do it for me.

Förstår att detta är en klassiker men för mig låter allt likadant.

Dull Dull Dull

Only listed to a few, but it’s not my personal listening taste (metal rock).

There is a reason I’ve only ever heard one song off this album before.

Same story as with ZZ Top - monotonous, repetitive and irritating. The only reason it's not one star is that Ace of Spades is a great song (and then you have 9 more songs that barely sound different). Once again, not my style.

The title track is a good listen, but wouldn't go out of my way to put the album on. Also some questionable lyrics (Jailbait).

12 versions of Ace of Spades.

Have definitely heard of Motorhead, but don't know the music very well. "Ace of Spades" I remember for the vocals, which sound a bit whiny. That carries for the album, it's like hard rock with a vocalist straining to prevent himself from crying, kind of a strange effect. It's not a bad album, but there's not much here that was memorable, and amid all the other classic rock bands out there, I just don't think this brings much to the table. Maybe they've got better albums out there, but this one's more like a three of diamonds. Favorite tracks: Ace of Spades, Fast and Loose. Album art: Really like this one, these guys look absolutely insane. Goth cowboys. Color contrast is excellent, stances are proud. Iconic looks all around. 2.5/5

Not a massive fan of the sound but I didn't think it was awful. 2/5

Lol, that front cover encapsulates hard rock. Three British guys cosplaying as leather-clad gothic cowboys and managing to look serious about it. The sound is slightly better than I remember. It has more of the stripped-back energy of punk than most heavy metal records. However, it does get a bit samey even in 36 minutes. The songs are mostly mindless crap about getting drunk and having sex. "Jailbait" is particularly repulsive ("you're jailbait. I just can't wait"). I'm not even morally objecting - it's more that I just want to vomit at the thought of Lemmy having sex with an underage girl and writing this song after. 2*

The metal band loved by punks. Their most famous album named after their most famous track which Lemmy hated. It fast, heavy and a bit repetitive. Not for me.

The only cool thing about this band is that it is better that suicidal hippie folk rock

Every song sounded the same and then within each song it was a lot of repetition. I didn’t mind listening to it necessarily but don’t need to ever listen to it again.

Wanted to like it because THPS "Ace of Spades", but this just felt repetitive and noise.

Ik vind de pukkel van Lemmy gedenkwaardiger dan deze plaat.

Good music but lyrics kinda didn’t matter

It’s fine, and if it was on in a store I’d be neutral about it, I just can’t bring myself to care about Motörhead. Listening to this album is a boy task. Every song sounds the same.

Mmm, not bad. Just not my style. I enjoyed Ace of Spades, but beyond that I felt it was a lot of the same thing.

A precursor to mental in England British band Didn’t save any songs from this Album

Peaked kad je Dave Grohl mu došo odsvirat ace of spades na bubnjevima, that's all.

His warty face though.

The Ace Of Spades sets the tone and boy does this album never shift out of that gear. Jailbait is a rather unfortunate song. This album is peak 80s mysogeny, sex, drugs, and rock and roll. (We Are) The Road Crew is a nice send up for the tough life of a stage crew.

All of the songs sounded exactly like Ace of Spades to me

Very samey but solid.

4/10. Maybe it's just that I pre-judge any album with a song called "Jailbait" on it going in, but I didn't think this was that good.

My first introduction to this was on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. It didn't get annoying listening to it constantly while I perfected a 50/50 grind around a cast of boiling steel. So... This is just boring dumb rock to me, though. So I don't really care. And since this list is already disproportionately filled with upset whiteys, I'm gonna penalize the 'head. Not 1/5 though, because these guys can clearly J-A-M.

This album started off super strong, exciting, energy that was a great indicator of things to come. The title track had a great riff, things were looking good - great, even. Next song, similar riff, but that is okay because this band clearly deserves the continued listen, surely there is more in this tank. On and on that goes, while the Law of Diminishing Returns rears its I-told-you-so head. A view at their play count confirms it: the first song is absolutely amazing, but everything after that is basically the same with an ultimately downward trend. The setting likens to back in the old arcade days, no quarters left, but the Motorhead pinball machine's flashy lights and exciting "Ace of Spades" soundbites create that false hope that it can be played as if for the first time, every time. Truth is, on the next visit to the arcade, quarters at the ready, the pinball machine fires up at the deposit of coin, the world is lit and the moment is all but fleeting. The same lights and brilliant flashes become predictable, as the score gets higher, the same "Ace of Spades" riff echoes, the game gets boring. The last ball is lost, the game is over. After a brief reset, the pinball machine is back to flashy lights, the "Ace of Spades" anthem playing at seemingly triumphant moments of flash. The realization sets in that the flash and music never changed at the deposit of coin, it was the exact same with coin or not. A quarter wasted, yet still the temptation of a good time lingers, perhaps the next time will be different? Truth is, with this album, the differences were seemingly rehashed for every song. Granted, this is the world of modern music, this is exactly what happens, but perhaps Motorhead forgot to be creative?

I don’t get it

Motorhead album, fine thrash music. They are okay.

Pretty loud. A lot of the songs are the same, but not bad. 2/5 Ace of Spades is best song.

:D vittu ebinn kuunnella ace of spadesii täysii sen verran mitä oon joskus kuunnellu motorheadia niin muistan että kaikki biisit kuulosti 99% samalta ku ace of spades. että odotukset ei ole korkeella. aika hyvin vastas kyllä odotuksia, mutta toisaalta hyvää tasasta tykittelyä. voisin kuunnella uudestaan töidenteon ohella ainakin semi-ironisesti.

Crankin first song. Does get a bit the same as the album goes on but can't fault the enthusiasm.

The title track is of course fire (shoutout Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3) but the rest is kind of meh. Not that it's terrible, it just falls into that Kiss territory of cheesy hair metal. And I refused to listen to anything past a song called "Jailbait."

Jah, rock og rul. Man skulle nok have været der, i tiden, for at kunne opleve hvor stort det var. Nu er det bare endnu et rock album. Men fint og små-kedeligt.

Heavy metal, højt, nogle ok numre, ellers lidt tungt

Speed, heavy rock n roll. Sorry to say it is a bit samey. Still legendary band.

It gets a little samey, but the guitar work is pretty good. Too bad I can't really stand Lemmy's voice, and the lyrics are.. something.

Shouty

The album got off to a cracking start. How could you go past the classic Ace Of Spades? As it progressed it kept those hard nosed guitars and drums but the content of the lyrics progressively got more and more rapey. Culminating in both Jailbait and The Chase is Better Than The Catch. I wanted to enjoy the entire album but I really couldn't, it makes sense as to why the only released single from the album was the Ace of Spades. This album would've had a much higher rating from me only if the lyrical content was not so rapey. Best: Ace of Spades Worst: Jailbait; The Chase is Better than the Catch

Talented, hard-rocking stuff... but not for me. I don't listen to this kind of stuff enough to get the nuances, if their are any. To me, it sounds like the whole thing is played at one volume and at one level of anger.

Early metal, not really my thing though the first song isn't bad. By far the most popular song on the album. All else sounds pretty much the same. 5/10.

It’s fine…not particularly my thing.

First metal record on the list. Vocals were not as indiscernible as I would expect from stereotypical death metal, for example. Still pretty mediocre with the exception of the good guitar riffs. // Favs: Live To Win Score: Decent to Strong 2

Terrible. Didn't even finish listening. There's even a song about pedophilia. Terrible.

nicht so mein Fall

Really Hard for a Monday Morn. Solid beats, but I just couldn't get into it. I will shelf this one for later. Update: Not my genre, baby, but I get the appeal and I like it...just not that much.

Hmm. Not bad old rock, just, not for me.

Lemmy knew it when he sang “it’s all the same to me” - after the title track it was hard to tell the rest apart.

Never really been a fan of these. It was ok, samey samey though

this is not good for my head today

Better in short bursts

Giving 2 stars due to ace of spades but the rest is shite. Take speed, play fast, talk pish. You'd think it'd work but it's boring as fuck. P

I swear I have listened to this album already on here. It’s hard rock. Idk. Ace of Spades etc.

Music was ok but every single song sounded like ace of spades... Listened to 60% ish

Pretty good, but songs other than Ace of Spades kind of blur together and a song named "Jailbait' isn't cool.

Not my bad. Sure this is iconic, but just a bit 'much'. Can you ever imagine just popping this on in the background? Or having it on whilst you drive? What I mean this is quite limited music

A little heavy for my taste but not hard to listen to

Meh. All the songs sound the same

It’s lusting and shouting and creepy. And not finding yourself punk kind of anger but simply mad and reactive. Too close to home after the recent riots.

I had only heard "Ace of Spades" the song from the album, maybe one other. This would be perfect music for a dive-bar, like North Star or something. Beyond that, all the songs basically are the same tempo, same drum pattern, same style. There is something to that, but it doesn't do much for me just listening intently. As a live show, I could see the appeal. Some of the song titles/themes are gross.

fine. didn't seem that speedy for speed metal

energetic! a bit repetitive.

Every song is the same

Fuck these assholes

Ace of SHIT!

Could not finish. Boring dad rock, every song sounds the same, the vocals are a whole struggle bus. Not for me.

no es mi estilo para nada

every song is about convincing a woman to sleep with him, even underage girls! how pleasant and enjoyable <3 :)

No thanks. These guys have a sound, and they execute that sound well-enough. But every song sounds the same — there’s no imagination in the delivery, particularly of the lyrics. A 1.

Loud, boring and repetitive. It started out a 3 for the big riffs and metal energy, then became a 2 due to the singer’s voice and weak lyrics, and finally a 1 by 3/4 through when it became clear that every song sounded exactly the same, which had worn out its welcome long before. Add the badly-aged “Jailbait” to the list of grievances here.

yeah they got a song called jailbait…

the problem with a one note album is that when you don't like that one note...

I would have disliked this in 1980 and I still do. The only thing going for it is that Lemmy's voice wasn't nearly as bad as I'd imagined. In fact, he sang just like he spoke. Unfortunately it was used to sing ridiculous lyrics and the music sounded like generic hard rock This could be any hard rock band from the 70's/80's era. The riffs were indistinguishable to any other crap I heard on the radio at the time. I can usually understand why an album makes this list, whether I agree or not. But this was just boring and nothing new. Even in 1980.

i think the metal umlaut is goofy as hell tbh. most mainstream commercial rock from this period sounds very formulaic to me, and it's not a bad sound, but it gets a bit boring after a while.

I was just waiting for this to end the whole time. Love Me Like a Reptile was a particularly wtf moment. I was just thinking the lead singer sounds incredibly old when the song Jailbait came on. Lovely.

Not a fan of heavy metal…

Awful, I hate this band

No mg mucho, hard rock viejo, como kiss pero un poquito mas duro

Not my type

Lacks imagination

violets are blue roses are red i really don’t like motörhead The voice is hoarse the rhythm coarse from this picture alone i can tell these men probably smell i hate their hair i hate the vibe one star from me that’s it, good night

uh oh. i know ace of spades (song), the instrumental is really good. i hate this guy’s voice. oh god there’s a song called jailbait on here 😭😭 i might hate this. shoot you in the back immediately made me angry. on live to win. the bass tone on this album is cool. i wish i liked.. any of this. this sucks so bad. fire fire. ugggggghhhhhhhh 🫩 i’m on jailbait… i already hated this what are we DOING HERE MAN 😭😭 THEY JUST FUCKING REUSED THE ACE OF SPADES RIFF AS A BASS LINE. FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU. the chase is better than the catch… this was dreadful. 1

36 minutes of screaming hell. If you are looking for music that leaves you tense, angry & anxious, this is your album. I am obviously not a heavy metal fan.

Bacons

This album was a 2 until I got to the song "Jailbait."

I don't think it's great; it's the kind of rock and roll that got very dated. But, at least it's honest; it sets out to do something and does that well, even though I don't found particularly good.

Ace of spades is prima. 2/10

I was on board until he genuinely started singing about being sexually attracted to a child. this was never ok. DNF

Hm naja. Is ok 1-2

I feel like part of the aesthetic of this album is that the music sounds crappy and janky and also slightly inebriated. If that appeals to you im sure this would be a great listen, I was not a fan.

One decent song, one noncing anthem and all the others sound exactly the same

All fine and straight ahead but 'jailbeat' is a dealbreaker holy shit

I’m not a metal girl

this is giving me a headache… the longest 36 mins ever? 🌑

funny this album has so many alt versions bc every song sounds the same.. it's the same bad song, 27 times. with a sprinkle of pedophilia bc what is rock and roll without predators

This was a solid 2 star album until the pedophile song

I thought I was about 4 tracks in when I looked and realized I was only halfway through song 2. This wears on me.

This album does fall into the category of 'classic album' for some people, and I certainly remember it's popularity when growing up. It just sounds like a noise to me, and it's not even a pleasant noise. Repetitive riffs and sound. Juvenile lyrics. In case you missed it: Teenage baby, you're a sweet young thing Still tied to Mummy's apron strings I don't even dare to ask your age It's enough to know you're here backstage Tell me baby, oh you look so fine Send quivers up and down my spine I don't care about our different ages I'm an open book with well-thumbed pages Jailbait I ain't too late Jailbait baby, get down Right now GROSS

Boomers singing about how much they want to sexually assault girls {AGAIN!!}. Fucking gross and tired of this shit.

This is not starting well. Haven't even started listening yet but was reading through the reviews and most seem to say that the title track is way better than anything else on this album and I have really hated that song ever since I first heard it so that's not a great start. The reviews were wrong. Ace of Spades is not better than the other tracks, they are all the same f*cking song. So I now thoroughly hate all the tracks on this album.

Man, Jailbait is such an offensively horrible song that it immediately gives the album 1 star for me. The guitar work is absolutely phenomenal, though.

Full on fast heavy metal with horrific lyrics sung by a a screaming toad. Songs like Jailbait leave one wondering...

I got to Jailbait and just... Oh no.

I don’t have the energy to describe how much I didn’t enjoy listening to this album.

All I really knew about Motorhead before this was the song Ace of Spades. Turns out every other song is just a crappier version of Ace of Spades as written and performed by sex offenders.

Stopped listening after Jailbait.

Gross. I can sorta excuse the Beatles for singing about dancing with a 17 year old because they keep it "innocent", with lines about falling in love but nothing "suggestive". Jailbait is a song celebrating sex crime. To call it satire would be willful ignorance. Fuck Motorhead.

While listening to fast and loose I thought the song was on min 6+ at one point. Turns out the song is only 3 minutes long. That sums up this album, far worse than the ZZ Top album. I mean this band is just gross, the chase is better than the catch is so hard to listen to. I don't think it's cool to have to tell a woman to not be scared when you're fooling around, seems like a red flag, not sure why it's a point of pride for this dude. It's tough to pick whether this is worse than Eminem but they're in the same ballpark 1/5

it sounds like i'm riding with a biker gang and about to fuck a twink in a gas station bathroom. that or it sounds like I'm in a twink gang and am currently fucking a biker in a gas station bathroom. Surprisingly i mean both as a compliment. There is however a song on this called fucking jailbait and... ewwww grossss bleh bad bad. It makes the whole vibe go from trashy fun to something really gross. Like a started writing the first part to be funny but now it feels weird. It's a nauseating song. HE LITERALLY SAYS "LOVE THAT YOUNG STUFF" WTF. singlehandedly killed the album for me. fucking disgusting.

Bad. Ace of spade is there only good song.

Too much

not my cup of tea, epic album cover tho!

I think my friend billy likes this album so I have to not like it just to annoy him

Terrible

jailbait.....

54/1001 - Somehow makes the blues even more repetitive and grating than it already was.

Apparently I’m a Motörhead hater, who would’ve guessed. All the songs sound exactly the same to me and I don’t particularly care for the heavy guitar or raspy vocals. Did not fuck with

*No music on this album, plenty of noise and screaming.

Lemmy was the quintessential hard rocker. Quite the character. An institution. I knew that much before listening to this. Now I also know that I do not care one little bit for the music his band made. And there's "Jailbait", a song that really hasn't aged at all well thanks to its topic of "better not ask her age" girls being backstage.

I wasn't looking forward to hearing this album because of their 'apparent' reputation etc, but after the first track I thought it was ok, and then was disappointed by the rest of the album which all sounded the same alongside lots of shouting down the microphone - not for me

Growly nonsense

Dude this is 1 song repeated for an entire album. And it's only a mediocre song to start with. Man. I could've done fine without this one.

This kind of music only makes sense to me if I'm playing Tony Hawks. Otherwise I feel like I'm wasting my time with something that is designed to appeal to someone very different from me.

Ears are bleeding sins are pleading this is not for me STOP is my plea

I couldn't listen until the end. At the beginning I thought I've already listened to it? But no, it was their other album 'No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith' which sounds exactly, and I mean exactly, the same. '(We are) The Roadcrew' was okay.

Jailbait was the nail in the coffin.

eh, turned off by weirdness

Musically, there are definitely good to very good passages in various songs. I definitely can't come to terms with the screaming chanting.

These songs all sound interchangeable to me, and it's all unpleasant.

Öne out of Fĩve

I was going to be more generous because the title track is such a banger, but every song sounds the same. And boy, is it diminishing returns. I've had a bad case of the blues for the past couple of months and haven't had the energy to write longer comments, but I had to come out of hibernation to justify what a slog I thought this was.

cannot fucking stand Lemmy's god awful voice and while I don't think lyrical content exactly constitutes a moral affront or anything, Jailbait (among others) does make me personally feel very skeeved out (which could possibly be forgivable if it was a banger (it isn't))

How does Motörhead have two on this list?! Speed metal just feels like it stimulates the evil in people, which is such a huge turnoff. Really wanted to be done after Hammersmith. Although I will say I was tickled to learn that they're all from the UK and Lemmy is from Staffordshire! Stop. Metal. No. Don't. Go. Away.

Schrott.

aldrei aftur

Es klingt alles sehr ähnlich. Nicht unbedingt schlecht, aber auch nicht, was ich persönlich als gut bezeichnen würde. Jailbait allerdings: einfach nein.

Not for me

Butt rock. More like ass rock. Obnoxious.

Oof All sounds the same Lyrics trash Voice annoying Album cover is crazy bad Would’ve gotten a 2 if not for jailbait

Liked it at first, but it's literally the same song on repeat for 40 minutes. When I started listening I read the lyrics of Jailbait and lold out loud, but by the time I reached that song I was already fed up, so won't praise it even ironically

The same chords over and over and over.

Not for me.

A Motörhead once but my sister.

Not a fan of metal

Unlistenable.

Nicht meine Musik..

I don't think I'll ever get Motorhead. Some of the riffs are okay, but Lemmy is a terrible singer and the lyrics are somehow worse. Glad they were an inspiration to other musicians, but this is a hard pass from me

Typically if I vote something 1 star, it's just simply because it's not for me. This is just straight trash. Also, electric eels are not reptiles.

There were only two (2) songs about statutory rape on this album, which I suspect is below average for the genre. These guys are apparently only capable of one riff, too. Imagine going through all the work of recording 11 songs but you actually only had one to begin with and just played it 11 times in a row.

Tried in the morning. Tried again in the afternoon. Still a no go.

All the songs sounded the same!

One of the most annoying voices in 80s rock, music so generic it hurts. What is this doing on a list of albums you MUST hear before you die? Just because Ace of Spades was a big radio hit the whole album is Essential Listening? Come on, man.

Did not like at all. Noise to me.
