Ace of spades classic, others, not listened enough
Peak Motorhead :)
Ace of Spades is clearly an awesome song, not so keen on the rest
classic dad metal
For some reason, this sounds good to me. They came from an era when audible lyrics mattered.
What Jack said
Iconic title track, but most of the others are a bit generic. Reliable, grizzled, up-tempo hard-rock that's fun for a while but very samey.
Very good!
Some nice riffs, but all very samey
Lemmy sounds like his voice isn’t going to make it to the end of every song. The opening title track is a ripper. Huge energy literally from the first note. But it stays high energy the whole time, and I grew very weary. Do not recommend driving to this album.
Rock, lite av inget
It's okay
It was ok
Kinda felt like I was listening to the same song for an hour. Rhythms sounded the same the whole album, none of it was bad but none of it aside from the title track was particularly amazing.
Haunting blues rock of the title track (and very good solo), heavy, cadenced songs. Considering that this is a New Wave of British Heavy Metal Ablum (NWOBHM), it's quite okay. (6/10) Favourite Tracks: Ace of Spades
Does everything it says on the box. Short, fast and loud. Some questionable lyrics here and there, and then Jailbait plays. Woof.
good title track but the remainder was more of the same - I guess that was Lemmys thing but hey
While most of the songs lean on their lyrical theme pretty hard and there are some questionable choices ('Jailbait') made, there's no denying that at its core this is an absolute charging rock machine that's a classic for a reason. RIP Lemmy
loud
If you've heard one of their songs, you've heard them all. Pretty decent song, though. Best track: Ace of Spades
In my opinion all of these songs are so similar. Fast and loud with the same guitar tones. The only thing it has going for it is that you can hear how much they have influenced other artists
I like Ace of Spades as a song, but loads of the other songs sound exactly the same, so this got pretty old pretty quick.
pretty good for a motorcycle rock band
It's fine. Not the most original sound I've ever heard; that being said, the sound does go hard. Overall an okay album. Favorite track: (We Are) The Roadcrew
Solid straight forward rock & roll album but not a keeper for me. 2.5
Can't get into this album
It's a good, classic album. An influencer of heavy and thrash metal. It's not really my thing though. Highlights: 1, 2, 7, and 10.
Kind of generic and repetitive. Probably ground breaking for it's time, but not my cup of tea.
Solid album, crazy the first track is the title track but decent music!
🤘🎸🎸
Solid album Need to listen again hehe Final Thoughts: 3/5
Awesome - love it
It was fun, got my blood pumping and couldn't help move a bit in my seat to it. Some great riffs.
Mucho fan en los comentarios de YouTube. Yo solo conocía “Ace of spades” y con esa me quedo
Super high energy. Seemed okay but wasn't the mood today.
Good fun rock, Jailbait is terribly dodgy though
3/5 Nice album for Metal sounds.
.
Decent, enjoyable frantic energy. Essentially 6 different versions of Ace of Spades really so not a huge amount of variety for bigger scores.
Enjoyable mostly. By the end I am a little bit bored as it is mostly similar in style. Done well, but by the end I was done.
I honestly thought I would’ve hated it but didn’t mind it! But still a bit too heavy for me.
Some good tunes.
Grand. Good rock album. Same-y
Other than Ace of spades never really listened to much Motorhead. Mainly as its Metal and I have generally found that that genre is associated with people with poor personal hygiene. Ace of Spades is the obvious standout but this is album more rock then metal for me. And that is an excellent thing. Guitars are load and prominent, Vocal works if a bit one dimensional and the rest of the songs on the album are decent without being exceptional and lack the ferocity of Ace of spades. Enjoyed it though. An en-lighting experience and if we're being honest we'd all like to pull off that leather jacket hat combo on the cover. 3/5
Not really my thing but enjoyable enough. Instantly recognisable. Got a bit much by the end and I was glad when it finished
Quite samey throughout. That same is a great sound, but it is a little silly that I felt like the only difference song to song was the words.
Title track is great.
never heard anything but ace of spades. Album is a jam for sure. Songs a little samey, but no duds. Will throw it on at a late-night party for sure.
Fine. Nothing extraordinary. 6/10
I liked this more than I was expecting. Kind of a heavy metal Ramones.
Motorhead is one of those bands I need to divorce the music from the life experiences and types of people I knew then who listened to Motorhead. Solid sound, they lyrics are... well, they compliment the music and I'm not listening to them for content. Just enjoying the drive and grit and rawness. Perfect to push you through. Very similar to ZZ Top. ...ok, except the song Jailbait. WTF Lemmy?
Starts off really strong . giving you "Ace of Spades" and "Love Me Like a Reptile" off the bat. Had trouble rating this; kind of got samey as it went on, but the highs were pretty fun. Kind of a 3.5 if it was possible
Surprisingly enjoyable, would be good running music. Could do without the "jailbait" crap but seems to be par for the course in this era.
Fun and badass metal album. Not something I'd choose to listen to often, but definitely better than most.
There's some good stuff like "Ace of Spades" but it's typically not my vibe so I won't listen often.
Catchy heavy metal. A little more intense than I tend to go for, but good.
Bit samey. Bit rapey.
solid for what it is outside of "Jailbait" that kinda turned me off of the whole thing
Klingt nach Staub und Schlamm. Sehr dreckig!
That's a killer rock & roll record!
nice raw unfiltered rock, nothing more nothing less
Really a 3.5. Solid album, enjoyed listening to it. Nothing on here blew my mind, however.
Already listened, always awesome!
Some out and out rockin going on here. Really liked this album. A bit one paced!
*1980. *Only 36 mins, but I was over it by the 2nd song. *Procrastinated listening to this all day, and sure enough, it was rough. *Basically the generic brand of AC/DC. RATING - 5/10
Honestly, Idk. I’ve been surprised often so far. I am going in with an open mind…. Wow. So I WANT to love this. But… yeah. Brits. Doing hard rock. Spinal Tap. I mean come on. I love drums and a driving bass line. And it opens so strong with Ace of Spades. But then… songs about 2 am booty calls, paeans to touring life with drunk driving, losing your hotel in the haze and super glue? And… jail bait??!!!? With ZERO irony. Um…. Sorry fellas 2 Boolean: False
All sounded the same and not good. At least it was only 30 minutes lost.
If you heard ace of spades you have heard it all
All the reviews on this website are like “THIS IS ROCK HELL YEAH NOTHING BETTER.” Which further confirms my sad theory that I have outgrown “rock ‘n roll” when it sounds like this. Just no interest if the lead singer can’t sing and every song is essentially just an iteration on the last. Points for being a quick album, despite my skipping through almost all of it. Supposedly the title track is redeemable so I’ll go relisten but it sounded p similar to the rest…
A bit too monotonous for my liking. Most of the songs sound like different parts of the same thing. Quite liked Fast and Loose. 2
3/10 Very much not for me
Too hard core for me. DNF.
I wanted to like this, but WTF with the misogyny and “jailbait” lyrics? Also all the songs kinda sounded the same.
It's just too darn loud. Honestly, I kind of like it, but every song sounds basically the same. Same tempo and rhythm, similar guitar chords, etc.
This is so degenerate.
Can’t give this higher than a 2 after hearing jailbait
Favourite tracks: Love Me Like a Reptile I like the guitar riffs and everything that supports them but the vocals are just not for me. Each song sounds like the last one too so hard to pick favourites. However I think it's clear what my least favourite is: Jailbait. Just what the fuck man. 2/5
sublime para su época.
i like that one song
i really can’t imagine someone waking up and being like i wanna listen to motorhead
Reminds me of Deep Purple but high on meths. Great energy, driving rhythms, soaring solos. But, afraid to say, not my Cup of Tea.
Ace of Spaces as a song has a long cultural tail and stands out as the first song on the album, until you get to the rest of the album which is little different song-by-song from Ace of Spades.
I heard of this band. Too raunchy for me. I don't like the vocals. Fair album.
This just sounded like a lot of noise with terrible lyrics.
Yeah, no.
The guitar was great...but the lyrics were sub with this whole yelling but not yelling thing. And then jailbait....sorry not sorry you tanked your rating right there. It wasn't going to be great to begin with, but the guitar is at least really good so maybe that would have bumped it.
I was enjoying jamming out to this and then they had to ruin it with Jailbait. WHY ARE SO MANY MALE ROCK STARS SO GROSS. The rest of the songwriting wasn’t much better. Mostly “I’m a rock star so I’m going to fuck shit up and fuck a lot of women” vibes. Which is too bad, because the guitars are super rockin’.
Meh. I like Ace of Spades because of guitar hero and the way he says Ace of Spades. The rest I could do without.
Holy hell, this sucks. It's like listening to every terrible cover band that ever played at your local dive bar had a love child, and now they're all fighting over who gets to play drums. "Ace Of Spades" if fine, iconic even, but then it's back to the mediocre riffs and sloppy performances. I've heard better noise coming from my neighbor's lawnmower. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - Ace of Spades - Love Me Like a Reptile
The band has talent but I can't stand Lemmy's raspy yelling.
Would be higher if it didn’t feel like one thirty six minute song
Boomer Rock n roll. No me dice nada
The title track is something I'm fairly happy exists even if I never want to hear it again. The rest are increasingly poorer reruns, culminating in the rotten "Jailbait". Does Lemmy achieve a single actual musical note with his vocal throughout? Not my thing at all, but as a frequent inhabitant of "Arizona desert-style" environs I'm at least pleased to see "a sandpit in Barnet" in glorious technicolor.
all of this sounds like a one unnecessary long song and something your 6month situationship would tell you to listen to. I think I would enjoy it more if I was deaf.
80’s Metal
Good hard rock, if a bit repetitive (although that’s the point) would have rated it higher if it didn’t contain a song alluding to paedophilia.
Opener, Ace of Spades, is, musically, a different song to closer, The Hammer, although the gestures are all the same: chugging on E, some sloppy chromatic movement at the ends of phrases, Lemmy hoarsely shouting within his limited range and sense of metre. The lyrical mood is somewhat similar - pathetic fallacy and crushing inevitability of death. The arc of the album makes the similarities between the two songs even harder to distinguish, as there is no arc, just a straight line. That's not quite right. There is the full arc of a speedometer going from 0 to 100 in seconds, then staying like that until the gas runs out and the needle crashes back to nil. Regardless, everything is a bit of a blur. There's no strong argument against Ace of Spades, the song, as an amphetamine rush of energy. And, for a while, one can top up upper after upper, but it will just about keep you in the same state, you won't go any higher. That's a measure of energy, mind, not quality. Nothing gets better than Ace of Spades, the song, but you can sort of believe you are listening to the opener for thirty six minutes. It's certainly a buzz, but the empty feeling at the end isn't just exhaustion. 2 No band with sufficient self-respect to discard tracks 2-12 would have been able to make track 1. Ace of Spades (the song) is absolutely brilliant. 1.5/5
How long until we find out Lemmy is on 'the list'?
me...
Pretty meh here, I had heard the title track before but nothing special here for me.
Turns out I like the idea of Motörhead more than the actuality of Motörhead. 2 stars.
Ace of Spades // 1.5/5
Nothing burger
If this is the best example of thrash metal, it is time to ask whether thrash is a worthy or relevant genre. One harsh nöte!
This album just came and went for me. Influential I’m sure, but it’s sounds like a bunch of stuff I don’t like, so I wasn’t a fan.
Enjoyed the first song, but after that it was a challenge.
Starts to albums dont get much better than Ace of Spades, the urgency of those opening guitars leading to Lemmy’s unmistakable growl. Unfortunately the album as a whole is a bit one note and feels very repetitive. Yes the guitars are great, but Lemmy’s limitations are really evident the more you get into the album. The least said about Jailbait the better. Yes, times were different, but the lyrics acknowledge that Mr Kilminster knows it is wrong even then. The title track aside this is all just a bit dull
Look, it's fun, but it also felt like listening to a single 36 minute song: variety was not its strong suit. Lemmy had a great rock voice though. I saw They Might Be Giants in Nottingham, UK last year and as well as taking the piss out of the massive number of vape shops there, they seemed very impressed that a bust of Lemmy, containing his ashes, was somewhere in the venue with them. They sadly didn't play a cover. I think I'm back wishing for half stars again, but as I don't have access to them, it's getting a 2 instead of a 2.5.
I knew the title track - it's pretty good. And it's kind of the only decent track from the album. I never liked Lemmy's raspy voice, and I'm kind of turned off by all the jailbait style tracks.
Jailbait - teenage baby, you look so fine ... Jesus, that's a little bit sick. And musically apart from the title track, it's fairly shite anyway. 2 out of 5 stars because of Ace of Spades.
1.5
too much happening 🥲
never got into these guys. it decent enough music but just not for me
I know cultural perceptions change, but I’ll give the people who said Rock music is evil this, they were singing about having sex with teenagers A LOT.
Dam this guy needs a cup of water
BOW DOWN TO THE BOW DOWN TO THE KING all I can hear when I listen to Motörhead is triple H and with the current state of WWE, that annoys me ask me again in 6 months and this may get boosted
I have never liked the singing in Motörhead. That being said there were some good moments musically in the album but overall it felt quite simple and dull sadly. Some songs like The Road Crew was just looping the same thing endlessly with some solos built on top of it.
I've never listened to a whole Motorhead album before, but it turns out it's all exactly the same. Fast-paced drums and guitar powerchords, Lemmy's constipated shouting (someone else described it as sounding like he is trying to have a shit and that is literally the perfect description), naff lyrics. Can't pick out any highlights because it's all the same track (bar a couple of guitar solos). I would have rated 3 on the basis that I could probably quite happily listen to most of the tracks as background while working, but Lemmy's vocals and the track "Jailbait" make this a low 2.
ac/dc without the personality and some questionable lyrics was briefly enjoying it at We Are The Roadcrew -> Fire Fire but that moment of fun immediately got put to a halt by Jailbait. ew
I think I've been spoiled by metal bands like Ne Obliviscarus and Opeth having a good blend of harsh vocals and clean vocals with incredibly talented vocalists having multiple styles of each. I keep hearing these power metal bands with the same vocal style throughout a whole album and wonder how people didn't get sick of it. Wanky guitar solos were short and added to the music rather than overruling. Maybe a low-mid 3. Nevermind "Jailbait" made me ill get down to a 2
They LITERALLY all sound the same, which I suppose is ideal if you like it, which I don't. Extra star for the time they were admittedly very cool on The Young Ones.
it's very of a genre but I find this very dull.
Point off for track called "Jailbait" Fave track: Ace of Spades
4/10 - similar to Metallica but not as good
I hear the punk and metal influences of the 80s, but it's not my cup of tea.
Mwah.
I didn’t like the sound of this one very much h
didnt like it. didnt hear until the end. not for me i guess
I liked the riffs and melodies way more than I was expecting I'm not the kind of person that believes all lyrics should have deep meanings but these ones are just too silly to ignore, bordering misogyny. I'd give it a 4 for the songs only and 1 for the lyrics. Make it a 2, maybe? or 3? IDK
Still can't get into Motorhead.
Ehh, it was fine, but I'm only really interested in listening to one or two or three songs, and they all kinda sound the same. I'd go with 2.5, but we're gonna round down to two stars here.
I often have a backlog of albums I haven’t managed to listen to on the day the generator generated them for me. And then a small backlog of album develops and there are albums I am rather reluctant to listen to because of reservations, prejudice, etc. I’m not much into heavy metal/rock. So this was one of these backlog albums. I liked the drums. I appreciate great drummers. The songs of this album all sound very similar to one another and that’s an issue that often bugs me about rock albums. I feel like they are so heavily fixated on one sound. Which I get. They can’t just start alternating their whole motif but a bit of variation could help. So yeah… not my cup of tea but decent drums and guitars. But the song Jailbait … wtf.
There is one speed and one sound and that is frantic. Can definitely see its relevance in the growth of thrash metal to come that decade. But it’s really monotonous and the only thing that really caught my interest were the questionable lyrics on the overtly sex inspired songs. I get that these songs were never really designed with intellectual criticism in mind but can’t help but feel it’s an awkward listen in 2025. Enough irritants to keep this down at a 2 for me but I don’t doubt they had a lot of fun recording and performing this for many years.
“Ace of Spades” is obviously a classic, but after that, it all just blends together in a mostly forgettable blur. Pretty cool guitar tone though. Best Track: Ace of Spades
I had the live motorhead album not too long ago, which I didn't care for much, so the same thing here.
I love the title track of course, but the rest of the album is tragically similar there's no depth to the album at all
Same song over and over
Pretty sure thrash is just not going to be my thing
This is quintessential 80s rock but it drones on to me. I don't notice a wide distinction between songs. It categorizes a genre but without much setting itself apart.
Favorite tracks: Shoot You in the Back, (We Are) The Road Crew They are nothing if not consistent - loud, in your face, and obsessed with sex
I want to like this but I didn’t love the lyrics (especially those from Jailbait…ew), and Lenny’s voice just isn’t too pleasant to listen to. So, needless to say I’m a bit disappointed.
Pretty uninspiring hard rock
Love love love
Lemmy die zweite...c
Undeniably badass and good, but these songs all sound the fucking same.
I already was not a Motorhead fan.
Metal is not a genre I particularly enjoy. Nothing wrong with this, just not my cup of tea.
Vocals: 1. Drums/guitar: 4. Repetitive song formula: 2. 4 plus 1 plus 2 equals 7. Divided by 3 equals 2.333. I’m surprised, as I expected a higher rating but damn his vocals wear on ya for an entire album.
I don't think I'd actually heard another Motorhead song beyond Ace Of Spades and it was actually decent, but very samey throughout. Maybe I'd heard the whole album before but I just thought Ace Of Spades played 12 times in a row?
How many identical songs are on this album? Still I listened to all of it.
Music was OK but I couldn't get past the singer's voice.
Damn bro, do you need a cough drop?
The title track is an obvious banger, but the rest is the same song with different lyrics. Jailbait is absymal, The Chase Is Better than The Catch nearly so.
Not good
This might come as a surprise to no one, but the rest of this album isn't as good as the opener.
88/1089 This album is decent, i can see the appeal and Ace of Spades is a clear standout. However, the songs all sound extremely similar to my ear and i’m not a huge fan of the vocal style (though the guitarring is solid) Jailbait is absolutely abysmal though 22/100
I like ya fit, G
i liked Ace of Spades as a song when I was like 9, but I didn’t realize that every song would kind of just sound like that… oof
chud soundtrack, i don't want to be that guy that hates "fun" music but it just isn't fun to me, i fw Thin Lizzy and other similar bands that are interested in the basic principles of pop songwriting but this chug chug roast beef sandwich music just doesn't do it for me Fav song: (We Are) The Road Crew
These guys are the middle of The Road Crew. Ace of Spades, although hard driving, stays in the middle lane. The songs are very similar with no stand outs. Not sure why this album is a Must Hear, I think the only reason it makes the 1001 List is because of Jailbait and The Chase being about sex with underage girls. I guess they’re trying to portray the Wild West of the eighties, I guess. (2.2*s)
Only ever heard the title track of this album from the band. The rest of the album is not bad. Some early thrash metal with good guitar and drums. Hearing some double bass pedal in there. Sounds like these guys formed in a scuzzy biker bar. Lead has a certain road worn voice, like he's seen some shit. And with that name, Lemmy Kilmister, had to become a hard rock forefather. Ace of Spades was a better album than I expected and I give it 2.1 stars.
Didn't really like it, but also didn't hate it. Motorhead certainly established a formula and stuck to it. That felt like 12 of the same song over and over. Fast beat, hard rock riff and some strained gravelly vocals from Lemmy. Pretty easy for me to shelve this and move on from Motorhead. Lemmy's vocals are primarily what set Motorhead apart from other hard rock acts of this ilk. This dude must have smoked a couple packs then chased it with a glass of thumbtacks and sandpaper. I can understand the unique allure but is has never worked for me. A song here and there is OK but I have no need to spend any extended time with Motorhead. Glad it was only 35 mins even if I didn't mind it. 2.20 stars
this was just not for me and that's ok!
Wouldn't listen to again.
Got halfway through and heard everything I needed to. Just not my genre at all- painfully noisy. Sorry Lemmy. 3/10 (1.5/5)
Glad i listened to the 40min album, i got the vibes in the first track and honestly that’s all you need, don’t think there’s a reason to listen to the rest
I love me some eighties heavy metal, yet I did not care for Motörhead's Ace of Spades. Every song was more or less the same as far as tone, lyrics, and energy. I don't even have the nostalgic factor with the title song because I didn't hear it in my teenage years. At least it was a short album? I won't pretend that I have excellent taste in music--I liked Mötley Crüe as a teenager, and outside of the hits, their music is absolute garbage. Actually, Mötley Crüe's hits all sound the same, but they were more fun than whatever Motörhead put on this album. 2, I guess, because this was music instead of whatever Pere Ubu passed off as music, but my enjoyment was at a 1.
much in the same way ac/dc is, it's pretty much one song over and over again and while it's done really well and it's a fun time to see live, it leaves something to be desired in a full album setting
Samey.....but fun, in a kitschy sort of way. 2.5 and a coin flip for the rounding direction
On today's roll of the 1001 albums I should hear before I die, I got yet another band I have only heard in passing but have never officially checked out any of their projects, I got Motörhead's Ace of Spades. This album is exactly what I'd expect some senior mechanic to listen to as he douses himself in every car fluid imaginable while trying to change your oil. This album is pretty standard and by the books Hard Rock with some influences of early Metal scattered throughout and not much else. The vocals are ragged and at times quite hard to hear, the instrumentals are the main sell as they absolutely rock with each track but lack variety once you get 30+ minutes into this album, and the songs feel very same-y despite the tracklist clearly stating the songs are different. I wasn't really impressed by what Motörhead had to offer outside of the kickass title track, as everything else feels like a copy of the first song. If someone put this on I would enjoy every track except for the very weird song Jailbait, but I would never choose to listen to this again.
I’m only 36 albums into this project and I’ve already been given both Motörhead albums. I’m unsure whether the generator thinks I am a metalhead who will be greatly enthused or rather realizes I am a leadfoot with a penchant for pop who’d rather get the metal out of the way up front in anticipation of more gentle genres. I can’t deny these guys rock. The musicianship is excellent. Lemmy’s voice just doesn’t do it for me. More Motörhead, ma’am? No thank you. I’m all done.
Was a decent 3 until “Jailbait”. Oof
Classic rock and roll, the different songs did blend into each other for me but if you like this sound then that is not a bad thing.
13, 13, THIRTEEN straight album from the UK. For fuck sake, there are 194 other countries on the blue marble that make music - trying listening to something that isn't from your damp foggy island. British excellence is a joke!! As for Motorhead, good rock music with shitty vocals and worse lyrics. There is literally a song about being a fucking pedo -Jailbait. What the actual fuck! How was the rest of the band cool with this, were they all just trying to bones teenagers? minus 1 star just for that song! 4/10 130/1001
Loud intense fast high energy, but so repetitive
So painfully generic and uninspired.
Rating: 1.9 Laughably stupid. Early metal at its most trashy and ignorant. I understand that Lemmy spent his entire life partying himself to death but his music doesn’t HAVE to reveal that so openly. With all this being said, the songs are all pretty much straightforward, don’t drag and you could probably put this stuff on at any bar and everyone (me included) would probably enjoy it so I’ll give it credit for that.
Despite listening to metal for pretty much my entire life I have never really understood motorhead. Every song blends together, jailbait is creepy as hell, the bass tone is really the only thing giving this above 1 star
i hate to admit, but i had a teeny tiny bit of fun with this, while alternating with a stank face (+1) for teeny tiny bit of fun. to add to comment from tom about the general horniness - i have seen this nastiness prevail among a group of former coworkers who are motorhead fans. i think we can separate artist from art or fans from the art's message a lot of time, but seeing this firsthand gives me a nudge to think otherwise sometimes.
I forgot I was listening to different songs for a good 20 minutes. Then "Jailbait" started playing and I started hoping that it was knowing satire about their reputation and treatment of fans. Because, if not, big yikes.
1. zpadez - 2.5 2. reptile - 1.5 3. zhoot - 1.5 4. uuin - 2 5. fazt - 1.5 6. road - 2 7. fire - 1.5 8. jail - 1.5 9. dance - 1.5 10. bullet - 2 11. chaze - 1.5 12. hammer - 1.5
I see the impact it had, but it's not pushing boundaries NOW.
Probably historically important but not pleasant to listen to. Drumming is repetitive, voice gets on your nerves 2.4
Can't give any album with Jailbait on it more than two stars
Böring
A little more groove than I was expecting, but I still really don't like Lemmy and every song kind of sounded the same
Eh, what am I missing?
Fun opening track, but also kind of a mess. Sounds like an album of trying to figure out one song, getting it, making it the first track then using the rest of the tries to make an album. It's dumb, but fine.
Was not in the mood for something this heavy.stopped after a couple of tracks
-well to put it simply, it’s… not really my thing, i guess? a little bit corny even for heavy metal standards. and oh god the lyrics to some of these tracks -someone else is definitely better equipped than myself to enjoy this so i’m not writing it off completely. has some good moments. but yeah not my preferred listening -Favorites are Fire Fire and The Chase Is Better Than the Catch
It’s rock, and it’s fast and kinda loud. Not really my jam.
I can’t even lie, Motörhead has a cool sound, and of course I love the title track but… every classic rock band got that one song called Jailbait if you know what I mean….
Good at what it does, fast paced rock riffs with an angry sounding vocalist. Questionable lyrics. Very same-y. Quite tedious after about three songs of the same themes and tempo. Don’t need to listen again. 2/5
Som en flaska jack daniels
Eh, kind of same-ish. Legally obliged to like Ace of Spades and Love Me Like a Reptile, but every song felt the same. So you really just need the one or two of them. Certainly not 27 of them. 2.5/5 stars.
Ok it was pretty good until I got to the song Jailbait. How the fuck did that song get made?? Are you fucking kidding me?? Dragged the whole record down cuz now they all seem like they are (or support?) disgusting pedos.
Meh...
Why is this so rape-y
I wanted to like Motörhead but the Jailbait song really soured my view of them. Ace of Spades is the only decent song on the album anyway.
Oh boy...
Idk it was better than when I heard the live versions, but retroactively I'm rating the live album lower b/c I listened to the lyrics more carefully this time and they're incredibly dumb. Rating: 5/10
5/10 Motörhead is Motörhead. It’s good just not for me. Favorite song: ace of spades
jailbate didnt age well
It's funny that people say everything sounds the same now when this band is still popular. There's barely any difference between songs. I don't get it. It's fine for about 180 seconds and then it's really boring.
Songs to paint a picture of the same black hallway over and over again to. Fun listen, high energy and wicked guitar tone that makes you want to scream at things. Wouldn't call this album sonically diverse, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but I would've loved to hear something different from song to song. Almost campy in presentation, like a hair metal band that just finished watching sons of anarchy. Fav track: Ace of Spades
I found listening to this to be extremely repetitive. Every song sounded more or less the same. Maybe that's a me issue but I really could not get into this. I felt like the music was poorly played and there wasn't enough interesting to me to make me overlook it. On top of it, some of the songs and lyrics weren't great either. I can see why people like the song "Ace of Spades" but it wasn't really for me. I can see how this was influential for later stuff so I'll give it a 2 instead of 1 but for personal enjoyment it's more of a 1.
Every song feels 10 minutes long cuz they all sound the same and just blend one in to another. Jailbait is bad, real bad
Love Ace of Spades but after that it’s really just the same song over and over again with increasingly bad lyrics. 4/10 and the title track carries it to that.
4/5 for the vibe, minus 2 for "jailbait."
Every song feels 10 minutes long cuz they all sound the same and just blend one in to another. Thought Jailbait was just going to be bad musically. Was much worse than I thought.
Ace of spades is a great song, but beyond that there was not much to write home about. Some of the lyrics were also just downright gross to listen to (jailbait for instance) so I’m giving this one a 2/5. Fav song: Ace of Spades
Stg if I have to listen to one more album with a million long ass guitar solos I will go crazy
Aisde I guess the title track and Jailbait despite the lyrics, the music is pretty dull and crap but Lemmy is probably the only famous metal musician I could stomach if I met them in real life, Rest in peace to a legend. Unfortunately his music is shit to me but more power to you if you like it.
Not a genre I enjoy, but at least it was short.
Imagine being Drake, you get publicly destroyed for being a nonce and then Lemmy was out there singing about underage girls sucking him off and he got a free pass.
I can only take so much of this type of music. I did kinda like the title tract but after that it went downhill. Songs began to sound the same, and annoying.
I liked early Hawkwind so have a soft spot for Lemmy. I also like the track Ace Of Spades very much. Trouble is its track 1 side 1 on this album so the rest quickly falls away in mediocrity of the same old same old. This stuff will appeal to many old rockers and I know quite a few who do but I’m not one of them. 2/5 25/1/25
While not my style of rock and roll/punk/heavy metal, I can appreciate its influence they had on other styles of music.
When loading this up on Spotify, the first thing that jumped out was '12 songs, 36 min 16 sec'. The only way that could have made me smile more, is if each song was literally 3 minutes and 1 second, as opposed to an average.
Yeah, ok. Icons of rock ain’t they!!? But a little heavy for me, I like the odd listen to their commercially successful singles but an album is a little too much for me.
This gets to be real grating, real quick... not sure what it is, if it's the extremely limited vocal range, the repetitive generic riffing or the inane lyrics.
Ace of Spades (the song) was ALWAYS playing in THPS and I've never really liked it. Lemmy's voice was always just terrible to me. I guess at the time it was kind of a novel thing, and their art surely provoked the youth as well, but I feel like it's just edgelord stuff today. Add on the problematic as hell "Jailbait" and you've got a barely-talented band writing cringey music. On the plus side, the album was relatively short.
No need to stroke the chin or check the stereo separation. This is high octane no nonsense in your face drivel. It's engaging because of the front man.
A bunch of songs from the alternate 1985 in Back to the Future II. I now need a tetanus shot.
The title track brought back good memories of playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3. Other than that, I wasn’t into it.
Pretty average, old-school hard rock, akin to Black Sabbath. I see a lot of talk online about Lemmy and how much of a supposed legend he was, but altogether his music isn't really my thing. The title track is alright though.
General dislike
too rowdy for me
I’ve already reviewed Motörhead’s live album, which I did not care for. Granted, it’s hard to appreciate a live album when you only know one of the songs, but still, No Sleep Till Hammersmith? More like… wake me up… when we leave Hammersmith. I’ll workshop that. As far as this album goes, I’m familiar with the title track, but that’s it. However, I see that there’s a song on here called “Jailbait,” so that should be fun and not at all problematic. I guess it’s time to fire this one up! Well, as I expected, outside of the title track, this album was a bit of a snooze. I suppose I’ll start with the things that I liked about this album. “Ace of Spades” is awesome. It’s got an absolutely frantic energy to it, but everything still sounds tight and precise. The main guitar riff is fantastic, the drumming comes at a blistering pace, and Lemmy’s growling vocals are fantastic. The guitar playing across the album is pretty good, and I like the heaviness of the sound. As for the things I didn’t like about this album… the overall sound feels lazy and uninspired. It feels like everything after the title track was just cobbled together without any forethought. These songs all sound incredibly similar to me; they’re just fast and loud, but there’s nothing else of note about them. And on the note of “Jailbait,” the lyrics are somehow even worse than I could have imagined. Holy hell, that was gross. For a band that’s so well known in the history of metal, there’s nothing particularly unique about the overall sound of this album, and it’s pretty dull. Maybe it was earth shattering when it came out, but I think other bands have improved so much on this speed metal sound, that this album just falls flat. Ace of Spades may have been incredibly influential in its time, but to me, it just doesn’t hold up.
Listening to this was like pressing a drill against my head for an hour. Tough singer. No range.
A bit too rockin’
Ace of Spades is the fourth studio album by Motörhead, originally released in 1980. This is a pretty influential album. You can hear Motorhead setting the scene for metal in the 80s. I'm not a super big fan of Lemmy's voice, but it works on a lot of these songs. Especially the first track, that one rocks. Then you have tracks like "Jail Bait" which are just so horrifically bad. In fact, a lot of the lyrics on here are pretty lame. The production leaves a lot to be desired as well.
“Jailbait” bruh these old bands really gross me out sometimes Some decent song in the beginning, def not understanding why it’s on this list
One banging tune and a lot of questionable choices....
Motorhead is some pretty good gnarly rock, although I hate Ace of Spades so much, just one of those songs that annoys me. There are some pretty sick riffs and guitar work on this album, Shoot You in the Back and Fast and Loose sound so good, but the lead singers vocals are pretty dogshit. around the midpoint they say fuck it and get very repetitive, Also what the fuck is Jailbait, different times, I know, but holy fuck how gross.
Some fun riffs but the lyrics in several tracks haven’t aged well and it’s never really been my sound.
#365 - 1 year... and this is what I get? Geez. Not my musical genre at all
YAWN
Some iconic vocals, but really only one good track. The reptile song was one of the better ones, but I definitely got sick of it listening to the B-Sides. Not terrible, just not something I'd listen to in album form again.
nah, somehow sounds more dated than Iron maiden even tho they came out the same year
I'm not sure how something so loud can also be boring.
Nah
This album is only on the list to listen to the title track, Ace of Spades. The rest of the album is fine, but it just feels like slightly grimier hair metal. The singer's voice is grating and it sounds like he'll lose it any second. Best Songs: Ace of Spades, Live to Win, Worst Songs: (We Are) The Roadcrew, Jailbait, The Chase Is Better Than the Catch
Ugh
This is a lot more like punk rock than most metal. That's kind of an interesting change of pace, but it's not my style. This is a pretty rough record, the production is fine but very stripped-down, and nobody in the band is really a strong instrumentalist. Lemmy in particular, while having a very distinctive voice, is quite a poor singer.
Not horrible, but not what I would choose to listen to. The songs all started to sound the same after a while...
I have to agree with another review who called out Jailbait. I was thinking it was tongue-in-cheek, like Shoot You in the Back, but came across as too heartfelt, making it just creepy.
Ace of Spades over and over again until you get to the one where he says he's a paedo.
2.5☆/5 08.29.2024
Not my vibe
Straight up hard rock from the. early 80s most songs sound very similar.
I bet these guys are scary yet cool and respectable
All just a little bit over-the-top for my liking. Yes, there are some killer licks and great rockers in there but I can't really get on with Lemmy's amelodic yelling and the rhythm and bass just lack nuance and variety.
oh... that's a song about how the dude wants to fuck a teenager...
Lemmy's voice becomes grating by the 2nd song.
..
I respect their unique approach and style to the music world. I personally would never go out of my way to listen to them however based solely on their name it was better than expected. Props to them and respect given.
The music itself wasn’t bad, but the lyrics were. I’m docking a star mostly for “Jailbait.”
Seemed like a lot of the same. Nothing really trying to standout. Vocals are not great either.
It honestly all sounds the same to me and tbh if they’re not singing Triple H’s theme song, I’m probably gonna zone out.
Maybe this isn’t my cup of tea but man this album is a slog, even at 36 mins. Every song sounds nearly identical, and that sound is just meandering and completely uninteresting to me. I do get the appeal, I actually enjoyed the first song, especially the riff on it, but as a whole this album did nothing for me.
They deserve jail for that jailbait song.
Todo el rato igual ...
Music is fun, but singing and lyrics are atrocious. 2.4.
not my bag
Some interesting songs and some great examples of heavy metal, but I definitely did not need the second desk with alternative versions of all of the songs on the first record.
title track is great but not sure I like much more
Forgettable proto-metal
This could be a real fun speed rock album, and the title track is bona fide classic. Sadly, the utterly disgusting "Jailbait" ruins it. Different times, sure, but I'm really glad those are over...
Took me multiple days to get through this one
This is the Katy Perry of rock. It's way too safe and I don't like it a single bit. With that said, it wasn't too bad on the ears so it gets a 2
This is pretty painless. It comes at you quick and just rocks the whole way through. It has a kind of Meatloaf on speed quality. Don't love it. Don't hate it. Would not dip in again.
2.5/5
There wasn’t much I liked about this album.
Ace of Spades is incredibly catchy and recognizable even to those that don't know Motorhead. Jailbait is despicable and taints the whole album.
After about 20 minutes I realized I hated the dude's voice and couldn't recall any individual song since they all sound extremely similar. 3/10
ich fühl mich plötzlich sooo müde ;-)
Nah
Favourite song - Ace of spades
This sure is an okay album. Nothing really stands out other than Ace of Spades. BUT this is the first time I get to use my, “this classic rock artist just admitted to being a pedophile” card! That’s an automatic star deduction. This will not be the last time I use it! Jesus Christ!
Wasn't expecting to like this very much as I am not a big fan of metal. Had to listen to Love Me Like a Reptile twice because I had to make sure I heard the lyrics right. Sadly, I did. Then I got to Jailbait... All in all, not the worst thing I have ever heard, but I did not have a good time. Ace of Spades is still cool though.
Couldnt listen to the second album
Ace of Spades was ace
This is okay, but I don't understand why this album is on the list. It's generic sounding 80s heavy metal, not a single attribute or song that stands out to me. Every track seems composed mostly the same with the only difference being the starting note, the tempo shifts slightly, and the lyrics change, but it's basically the same composition track after track. There's nothing wrong with a formula, and there's nothing wrong with solid execution of it by all involved, but I guess I'm just missing the magic of the album. As a side note, while I've heard a few of these songs on the classic rock radio station over the years, I never knew it was Motörhead. I've heard the name of the band before, but I always assumed they were more like an alternative rock / industrial band. So, clearly I came in with the wrong expectations, but at least I left learning something. I don't see anything worth returning for though.
