super repetitive and samey jailbait damn near ruins the album

Only one song on the record repeated 12 times, but that song is enjoyable enough!

The title track is a great piece, brings memories of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 and evokes driving way too fast. The full album doesn’t quite keep the same frantic pace of “Ace of Spades”, but a good portion of the album stays pretty close. While Motörhead set the standard for speed metal with this album, it really isn’t much more than a bunch of mediocre support for a great single.

Definitely a fun ride. I enjoy metal, and this one had some bangers, but not something I usually keep on the regular rotation these days.

Ace of Spades (the song) is of course a classic, also really enjoyed the chase is better than the catch. Everything else sounded a bit same-y.

Pas mon style de metal préféré mais il faut respecter ce genre d'album qui a pavé la voie aux groupes plus heavy. 7/10

Já já. Tveir icky textar en annars bara rokk og ról. Dálítill "boys will be boys" bragur yfir heildinni.

Quite a fun album but all the songs sound a little samey

Good stuff, up & down but quality.

Just not totally my thing.

Kinda forgettable

Classic metal. Lemmy in rare form.

Cowboy sex music for ram ranch enjoyers.

Had to turn the album off at Jailbait, too much of a snowflake for this album. It was going so well, gonna give 3, minus points for noncery

Ace of Spades is a good metal song!

I would never have picked this up on my own but I enjoyed this. Not my style but I respect the sound and it was fun to experience it.

I like Motorhead, and believe that every industry should have a Lemmy Kilmister. I also know just how important Ace of Spades was in the beginnings of heavy-metal, and as a single it's simply phenomenal. The rest of the album is lackluster though. MH are pretty famous for doing the same thing over and over again, and this album definitely reflects that. After the 3rd or 4th song it gets samey. Good samey, but samey nonetheless.

Yep, that was some 80's hair metal. It was fine, although I remember liking Judas Priest much more when their album came up a few months ago. I'll never listen to this again, but I didn't dislike it.

Ace of Spades is the fourth album by English rock band Motörhead, and it's their most successful one. This heavy metal / hard rock album was influential to the European thrash metal scene, although Motörhead considers their music to be rock 'n' roll. It's a fast and loose album with a western theme and lots of gambling references. The album was certified gold in the UK. It's an enjoyable hard rock album with fun albeit dirty lyrics that are sure to keep the party interesting. I recommend this album if you're a fan of rock or metal.

Nazi mole face man

Not my jam, but decent album! It definitely felt like it was riding that line between the “classic” 70s rock and the burgeoning heavy metal scene. I enjoyed it.

The title track always makes me pleasantly growl. The remainder of the album makes me think of grimy roadies and the scuzzy life they lead. I’m sure Lemmy wanted it that way exactly. Curious that the band rejected the new British heavy metal movement and always identified as hard rock. I think that’s why punks and goths have such love for Motörhead.

we all love "Ace of Spades," but I couldn't help but wonder: how many of the dudes who negged SZA for singing about her pussy think this album, with tracks like "Jailbait" (written and sung by a 35-year-old) and "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch", is a stone-cold classic?

Loud and fast. Just the way I like my coffee. Fun but not particularly essential or remarkable.

I’ve never really been a Motörhead guy, and I’m probably not going to be after this. But that being said this is a pretty good album. Not my cup of tea anymore. Had I heard this earlier in life, I would probably made different mistakes than the ones I made.

I never could get hooked on the band for some reason.

Pretty good. Ages poorly with the underage girl lyrics.

Most of the songs were musically interesting but I don't find Lemmy's voice very appealing to listen to.

It's a decent hard rock/metal album but it's nothing special. 3/5. Favorite track: Live to Win

This is has been played at least once in every sports bar. It's fun but not quite my thing.

Motorhead es un clásico del rock. Para mi demasiado pesado. Aún así se disfruta si se combina con rock más ligero.

Everyone knows "Ace of Spades" and its still great. Though I must say "Jailbait" is exactly what you think it is. I know that's a song of its time, but it's still gross. An interesting mix of punk and heavy metal.

Having already heard No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith I'm not sure I also needed to hear this before I die. One or the other perhaps, surely not both. In any case, the song Ace of Spades remains a pinnacle of metal and will always deserve some stars. I find it best to let Motörhead wash over you and listen with your lizard brain only. Because lyrically, yikes! Extra star for the album cover.

Big Tony Hawk energy. It's a good workout album.

Love the brashness of the sound and great lyrics but the songs are somewhat repetitive after a minute.

Comeback ?

really fucking cool. but Jailbait 🤢

For most people, Motorhead is one of those bands where you really only know them for one song. That was certainly the case for me, so I was quite excited to listen to the full album that the iconic "Ace of Spades" song comes from. After listening to this full thing, I was somewhat disappointed. This is not a bad album, not in the slightest. It does, however, have some major flaws. For one, it's pretty repetitive. The sound, which I like, feels the same all throughout, leading to there not being much to miss out on. The writing is sometimes samey but usually pretty decent. Finally, as far as big problems are concerned, there is one song on the album that is kind of gross. I don't like that song very much, but the other ones are alright. The title track is obviously amazing. This is the song people think of when Motorhead comes to mind, and I don't think that's a bad thing because this song is awesome. The other ones are good (save for that one), but don't really stand out much overall. Lets talk about the singing for a bit. Lemmy's one of those singers that you either love or hate the sound of. I think its funny. He sounds like an anthropomorphized pack of cigarettes, but that makes Motorhead sound unique in a way. Overall, I do really like Motorhead's sound and I think they're definitely an iconic band that deserves to be on this list, but this album did have some things left to be desired that hold it back a bit. 3/5.

Good end to end for a little pump up. Did while running.

AND DON'T FORGET THE TOASTER Gritty, raw, and hasn't aged well. Whilst the opener is of course in "stone-cold classic" territory, the rest of the album does feel a little samey. Not to deny the importance of the album in that "not quite metal, not quite rock" genre.

As a metal fan, my peers are always fawning over Motörhead, but I just don’t get it. They fall in this middle ground between rock and metal that leaves you wanting more. Most of the songs have very simple, forgettable riffs. Ace of Spades is of course the standout song, the rest are just meh.

Strong rock album with a lot of drive. Ace of Spades sticks out as a banger. Overall probably nothing I'll revisit but nothing to complain about part from it being my ordinary taste in music.

Bringing the metal! I feel like this was one of the first in the '80's metal movement. I can't help but think of Guitar Hero when I hear Motorhead.

Not like particularly interesting but I might have just not been in the mood

Musically a 4, lyrically a (generous) 2.

This really lays the foundations of motorhead. Love the first half, the second half feels like filler songs though Favorite songs: Ace of Spades, (We Are) The Road Crew

I like it as far as heavy rock goes

Good loud dumb rock and roll

All sounds the same

Ace of Spades - good song

you can listen to, but you don't have to

I was fully prepared for this to be nothing more than loud angry music for pimply boys in the 80’s to be mad at their parents to, but I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself tapping my steering wheel along to several songs. Yes it’s loud and angry but it’s also catchy and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Good job scary metal cowboys!

always thought these guys were hard rock in the style of metallica or something and never listened to them. pleasantly surprised to discover that theyre much more grounded in punk and they did the “Ace of Spaee-ds” song. consider me educated on motörhead

This album says Rock. Like, where's my car? I need to go take a drive, windows down, definitely speeding a little bit with this on the radio to properly set the mood. If you want to learn to play rock and roll on the drums, start with Back in Black by AC/DC. Just put the album on and play along until you got it. Then put this one on. By the end of that exercise, you're ready. But, seriously, Motörhead? Jailbait? Wasn't okay. Was never okay. Ace of Spades is rightfully a classic (the song, not the album as a whole). As the album continues, it gets more samey. The riffs become more stale. This is definitely their wheelhouse, and it shows. Still, the rock and roll swagger, the apparent lifestyle – this is sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll exemplified. This is a double-edged sword. The content is primal and straightforward. The album is about as deep as a puddle, but that's what it was meant to be. You *can* do rock and roll without the idiotic misogyny, however.

It is ok and contains a super-classic song, but every time I listen to this album I cannot shake off the feeling that I am listening to the same song 10 times in a row. Iike the bonus tracks from the St. Valentine's Day Massacre EP much better - very catchy songs with Girlschool - but of course these songs cannot be taken into account.

Livenä varmaa vie kovempi. Kovaa rokkia 🤘🏼 NONIII :D en oo kyl varmaa ikinä koko albumia kuunnellu Hyvää taustamusaa oli töille. Tehokkuus nousi kummasti

With the exception of Ace of Spades, this sound doesn't quite resonate with me.

classic speed metal, might sound outdated today but its importance is still felt

Ya know, I didn't have a chance to listen to this all the way through, but I do love some guitar-heavy Motorhead. My only complaint about this band is that Lemmy has virtually zero range. Every track sounds very similar, vocally. He is a talented front man and the songs tend to rock, but it's kinda boring.

Link to Apple Music is wrong. Relentless but brilliantly cartoonish too.

I have always disliked the guitar part on Ace of Spades. Take all the guitar out and I think it's a decent song. I think Lemmy's vocal on it is cool, the way it raises at the end. Like the opposite of James 'Metallica' Hetfield's 'a-uH!' at the end of a phrase, up vs. down and kinda neat vs. very dumb. overall pretty listenable - I've dug through tracks a bunch of times to see if I like Motorhead, and I don't really, but I wouldn't ask somebody to turn this off. Motorhead understands that hard rock is best as party music. music: acknowledged. (⌐♠_♠)

Motörhead is of course a bit “if you’ve heard one you’ve heard em all”. But it’s still plenty of fun to listen to this whole record. I believe the “know I’m going to lose, cause gambling’s for fools, but that’s the way I like it baby I’m not gonna live forever” is the hardest rocking 10 seconds ever committed to recording. And don’t forget the joker!

12 tracks of pure, unadulterated rock!!! (It was ok.)

Yeah… I actually loved it. Until “Jailbait.” Even my… lyrically challenged… brain picked up on that one and set off alarm bells. I was biased not to like Motörhead at all, and I suspect our group might have skipped this one because we *just* had a 2-hour long live album of Motörhead a couple weeks ago. That one started strong with an amazing live version of Ace of Spades and then… fell flat. Got very boring. This one is called Ace Of Spades, it starts with an EVEN BETTER recording of Ace of Spades, and then… keeps going…? Still a little boring and flat by the last couple songs, but I think we have a much better version of the electricity of the band than the live version. As long as I put a lot of my brain cells on standby mode I kind of loved it. I think this album is probably more influential than it is a fantastic listen. But I am still shocked how much more I like thrash metal than I thought coming into 1001. 3/5. Good time, but not speaking to me. Tempted to deduct multiple points for Jailbait.

Ford driver music

Possibly included just to have the title track in this list- could have been a one track album so awesome is the tune. As to the rest- lather, rinse, repeat, rhyme smoking with joking, unsettle the listener over proclivities for youngsters. Ew.

One perfect song followed by 9 inferior copies (including an icky paean to statutory rape), then one change of pace before the closing carbon copy. But oh, the glory of the title track, which is quintessential rock n roll. There aren’t many lines better than ‘and that’s the way I like it, baby, I don’t want to live forever.’

The titular track is by far the best on the record and such a great song. I appreciate that I guess they started or were at least influential on thrash metal, but Motorhead does get repetitive for me unless I'm in the mood to just pay attention to catchy guitar riffs.

kinda fun but overall not that great.

The album rocks hard and is a lot of fun to listen to but holy hell some of those lyrics are... Dated. I just felt the album as a whole felt repetitive, like there wasnt quite enough to fully distinguish a really good song from some pretty good songs.

Dope Rock Metal album, would listen to it at the gym or drive fast at moments. S/o to Triple H for putting me on back in the day

Better than I thought it would be

This album has a good groove. The title track is a classic, but none of the other tracks bring anything new, really. I'm glad it's only 36 minutes long.

The schtick works for a couple of songs before it gets boring. Also, the sound is a bit outdated for 1980.

No other way to listen but to swing your long hair around your head and shred guitar.

5.5/10 All songs are the same Highlights: Ace of Spades

I didn't hate this. I really thought I would. It was like a slightly better KISS? Not bad.

Great metal, but the voice is so hard toblisten to

Yeah, for this pretty dedicated poo-pooer of hard rock, this was not too bad. I feel like they really trade on the absolutely undeniable banger that is Ace of Spades, and it's a bit of a slow downhill from there. Like most hard rock/metal bands, the guitar and drums are really technically impressive, and the vocals are extremely distinctive. Did I actively enjoy it? Not really. Am I glad I've listened to it? Yeah, I think so.

There's a definite roughness to the vocals. The guitars are simple but heavy as hell. It all just kind of works though and it resonates pure rock and roll. This one seems like a big influence on heavy metal bands of the 80s and 90s. My only complaint is that much of it sounds the same.

If you like metal, here you go. I don't. So take my rating with a grain of salt.

Bit too much for a sat morning

all the songs sound the same, thats not bad but besides ace of spades it all washes over you.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 out of 5

Fine example of metal. Not to my current taste, but it is music and represents its genre truthfully. A 3 because it doesn't suck.

Great rock album

I can see why it would be significant to the story of metal music but not my thing. It just doesn't sound good enough. You can get the same feeling of rage and thrash with more compelling rhythms and melodies with something like AC/DC

Of course this isn’t for me and I don’t need it. Speaking as a clueless tourist here, it seems to me pretty good in its class. They rock, sure. Any one track is kind of fun make-believe. So three stars, why not. But for me a whole album in this register is untenable. Even two songs in a row. If you’re metal for hours at a time, you should probably seek medical attention.

once again. can i say something without anyone getting mad

Got a bit tired after a while but it does a very solid job at what it’s trying to accomplish! I liked this more than I thought I would, so I definitely wouldn’t mind hearing it if someone else turned it on. I counted at least two Doors references which was cute. Really just feels like a hard rock/rock and roll album (complete with the teenage girl song lyrics). Fun solos! Good fun: Ace of Spades, Love Me Like a Reptile (love the lyrics), Shoot You in the Back, Road Crew (vocals aren’t my favorite but that wah-wah solo!!), Bite the Bullet (sounds like a 50 year old man divorce anthem which is cool), the Hammer (LMAO????? Okay Paul McCartney!) Fine but boring: Live to Win, Fast and Loose, Fire Fire, Dance Evil and not even fun: Jailbait, The Chase is Better than the Catch

A tad heavy for me, at parts. But there were some classic tunes in there.

Started strong, got rather monotonous

Weird lyrics aside this is a good metal album. Lemmy as such a raw voice. Good solos. Some songs sound the same. 3 stars

A real metal album, heavy riff, lemmy’s powerfull voice and the also powerfull drums we see it directly with the first song: Ace of spades wich is the best in the album. Shoot you in the back have one of the beat riff with fire fire i think I think this album really show how heavy metal is suposed to sound and look like. With punk elements in addition this album is very a good piece of art. I have to say that i dont really click with this and its not my favorite metal album, but it do sound pretty good

Well. I enjoyed the peppy beat. I couldn't understand a lot of the words, but some I sure did (jailbait!). Not terrible to listen to though. I never need to again, but I didn't hate it.

I was never really into heavy metal or its endless subgenres, but always liked Motörhead. It's been a few years since I last listened to this album, and maybe I don't like it so much anymore... Or maybe I should just keep listening to the music without paying attention to the lyrics, which was clearly a mistake I made during this listening.

Dark but entertaining stuff when you’re in the mood for it, perhaps best experienced as an accompaniment to the documentary film Lemmy (2010), in other words; his life as soundtrack or vise versa. It's not the music alone, it's what Motorhead represents - a kind of barely believable out of control life of the road - while we are at the dark end of the colour wheel of "rock 'n' roll" here, ultimately I find its semi-humourous and a partly self aware caricature of the hedonic nihilist rock’n’roll life, done in the "picaresque" tradition; the likeable rogue being the Lemmy Kilmister, whos' real life sounds like pure fiction. So its part Rock'n'roll voyeurism - the songs describe his life on the road and its lewd comforts, autobiographical, Lemmy seems like a motif that couldn’t possibly be real, and yet the film seemed to show him as just that, hence comedic and perhaps tragic, but definitely entertaining. Good fun metal, if there is such a thing.

Predictable but an easy listen. I love the way that Jimi’s ex-roadie uses that famous riff from Foxy Lady on Shoot You In The Back. I can’t argue with this album, but I’ve got no real desire to ever hear it again.

Bit too fast and furious listening to the whole album.

It was pretty good, I don't think I'm really into this type of metal so it didn't really strike a chord with me so to speak. Really like Ace of Spades (single).

Fun but not very impressive

Enjoyed the extra bits, not heard the alternate versions before

I was liking this and was gonna give it a 4 and then it all started merging in to one. I think it’s another one I want to give a 3.5 to. I laughed at Lemmy saying the producer got him to sing rather than just shout. Also the thought of them appearing on TISWAS. LOL wonder if Lemmy got pied. And as others have said about the lyrics to ‘Jailbait’, no need. This would definitely be enjoyed more in a rock pub with sticky floors and a couple of ciders

Klart, titelnummeret er en kæmpe banger, og der er virkelig meget knald på den her plade. Men er det bare mig, eller lyder de her sange liiiige lovlig ens? Faktisk mindre end jeg havde regnet med, men stadig

Jailbait. What the fuck. Not really my bag. Lenny’s voice starts to grate after awhile.

Kinda all the same song, but that song is a banger

Timeless hard driving rock

Lyrics are awful but music is good hard rock.

Kennste Ace of Spades, kennste alle. 😜

Ace of Spades 5. Rest of album 2

Classic init

Iconic but not my type of music

The riffs are iconic and I just choose to not pay attention to any of the lyrics whatsoever. 3.5/5

Cult classic but all fur coat and no kickers

I like a lot of Motörhead's songs and generally like their type of metal. Lemmy's raspy voice is great and the ferociousness and speed is excellent. So why only 3 out of 5 stars? First of all the album itself isn't anything special as a whole and there's some songs that are duds. Secondly I think their compilation album No Remorse that released a few years later blows this one out of the water. No Remorse really showcases Motörhead in the best way possible.

Dated songs and questionable lyrics. Many of the songs seem to run together with riffs that sound similar.

Ace of Spades is good. The rest is relentless pounding without any satisfaction.

The energy they bring is without a doubt impressive. Overall though, the lyrics don’t really bring much and sonically it gets fairly repetitive.

Know Ace of spades, but not much else really. Sounded exactly like you'd expect a Motorhead album to sound. I like the sound, it's hard not to, but much like ac/dc, it all sounds the same. Think I preferred the first half more, the sound got tiring by the end Jailbait has some hugely questionable lyrics. In fact, there's a few! So does the chase is better than the catch... Feel like once you've heard Ace of spades, you've kinda heard enough! 3.5

Nao consegui ouvir até o final. Acho que não estou na vibe.

It's the Ace of Spades and a bunch of songs with the same sort of energy. It flags a bit after a while, as there isn't much textural change but still... It ain't broke!

Hard to go wrong with Motorhead. I regret not listening to this in an environment where I could have turned the volume up to the appropriate level, but it still made for a decent listen.

While this was a good time, it's not really something I think I'd come back to often. I liked it alright, and of course Ace of Spades is a banger, but the rest was only "good". 3.25/5

decent

Title track is fun and the rest gets a little exhausting. I’ve never really understood the huge appeal.

Much better album than I expected, although not as good as the Iron Maiden record we heard a few weeks ago. Didn't realize they were a trio. Lyrics aren't anything special, but the sound is pretty powerful for 3 guys. This definitely verges on Punk, while still being Metal.

Rockiges Album. Heute Standard. Highlight ist der Song Orgasmatron.

Ouvi o inicio de todas as musicas do album. Todas as musicas começam da mesma maneira: •riff de guitarra bué fire •entra a bateria a bater pesado •entra o resto 3 estrelas

maybe 40 years ago...

Weird that Lenny and Motörhead are now basically dad rock. Fine for what it was though.

There's something to be said for straightforward rock and roll with absolutely no ambition other than that but it put a ceiling on my enjoyment of it. Great at what it is, but nothing more than that. Lemmy should not be singing about jailbait either. Nobody should, but especially him

Awesome rocking record. Really enjoyed it. We Are The Roadcrew was a highlight.

heavy but melodic, fast but under control, plodding but groovy

I used to joke that Motorhead only had one song. Listening to this album, that's totally unfair. They have two. However, when they're good, they're VERY good. Ace of Spades is a classic, and a lot of other tracks have a really fun swing to them missing from a lot of metal. Unfortunately, they really don't have many tricks up their sleeve. Almost every song has the same key change going up a major 2nd. Eddie Clarke uses the same guitar lick in at least three of his solos, and some of the lyrics (especially 'Jailbait') REALLY don't stand up. Still, what an opening track eh?

I've read that the live album *No Sleep 'til Hammersmith* is also in Dimery's list. In that case, I'll keep that live album and reject this one studio LP to save some room in my own list. Both records contain great version of "Ace Of Spades", but the live album has many other essential by the band. Trying hard to save some space on the shelves here... 3/5 for the purposes of this list. Which translates to a 8/10 grade for more general purposes (5+3). Number of albums left to review: 471 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 251 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 120 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 156 (including this one--nothing wrong with it, though... Just want to save some space).

Classic front to back, perfect meld of punk rock and heavy metal. Minus a point for "Jailbait."

Is Motörhead the slightly harder rock version of AC/DC? Maybe. It's all good. 2.5 / 5 stars.

I can't play poker

Two minutes in to Ace of Spades I had to pause the album to run out and get a leather jacket, some Marlboro Reds, and a 12 pack of Bud; good to go now... Ace of Spades is a quintessential jam for the genre. Few better songs have been written about gambling. Great riff. Also I get the impression that Lemmy used to gargle with asphalt and rinse with bourbon. Other standout is We Are the Road Crew. Jam. Otherwise, the songs kind of fall into a wall of sound, befit for playing in any biker bar. Some tracks have almost punky elements which I was surprised by. And the drum work is bananas throughout. Man must have had robot arms to get through a full set live. Overall I'm a soft 3/5 on this. Doesn't do a lot for me outside of the standouts, but Ace of Spades is an absolute jam and I do dig Lemmy's voice.

First time actually listening to a motorhead album, pretty enjoyable, but I don't reckon I could listen to more than 30 mins at a time normally. Some strong tracks, some not so good, but overall good. 3.5*

Some good hard rock, but hard to listen to an entire album. Lots of similarities between the songs and too little effort to make it unique. Just catering to a very narrow audience...

Great Old School straight forward heavy rock

You can't deny the title track, Ace of Spades is a great song. After over 40 years since it was released, the song is experiencing a weird revival of sorts appearing in numerous movies and TV shows when it calls for an intense, frantic, drugged up scene and it really is effective for the ambiance and mood of the scene. Apparently, Motorhead loved that song so much, they built an album around Ace of Spades and recorded that song over and over to fill the rest of the record. Or, so it seems, the sameness of the formula is play fast, have Lemmy shout gibberish loud and sloppily and repeat...! They make AC/DC sound like they have range and diversity...yikes! Is Motorhead, hard rock or punk or metal or hardcore or speed metal or punk speed metal? Judging by the leathers and long hair, I lean towards metal, but who cares, the song, Ace of Spades is fab! The song itself deserves 2 stars, but the rest of the album sadly only 1.

Good! There are quite impressive instrumentals here on this album.

It’s like AC/DC, ZZ Top and Spinal Tap had a baby.

Ace of Spades and other Motörhead songs that kick ass on the album that has Ace of Spades by Motörhead

This is a fun band that I will always associate with Tony Hawk (showing my age here?). I'm not sure we need both this AND No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith (Live) on the list. The track lists are almost exactly the same. If I had to choose one, I would be inclined to go with the live album for its energy.

Solid 80’s rock, if that’s your jam.

Although this album probably does deserve to be on the list, from the generator offering me both their albums (in a short time, too, since I only got their live one 3 weeks ago), I get the feeling they’re more of a singles band, or at least songs band, since everything on here is still good on its own (well, musically; lyrically, ‘Jailbait’ is just… no). It kind of drags, even if there’s nothing bad (again, excepting the one song), and Lemmy is an iconic singer, but his vocal style can get kind of repetitive. Of course, the title track is a metal classic, and the energy is great, so it’s more my opinion. I’d say keep it in, even if I’m not the biggest fan.

I love motorhead but to be true only the best of motorhead. It isn't bad but imo only has 2 or 3 standsout

Sick riffs, title track is a highlight. Losing a full star due to the track "jailbait." Big yikes.

Every song basically sounds the same. Oh, and what the fuck is he doing on that Jailbait song? Gross.

Heavy and a bit hard to listen to. Songs get a bit repetitive, but it has its moments

Title track is a great song, the rest of the album is fine.

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would

HL: title track, "Fast and Loose", "Fire Fire", "The Hammer" Enjoyable, raw & rollicking, but I wasn’t compelled to revisit most songs after it ended

The opening track, Ace of Spades, very much sets the tone for the rest of the album - which is just more Ace of Spades. Not that that is a bad thing. Very questionable lyrics on the 8th track, Jailbait... and for that it gets only a 3. Best track is ofc Ace of Spades.

Speed metal is cool.

It was interesting getting this right after Metallica. I have to say that I preferred this over Metallica as it's a bit lighter. Kind of fun to hear to metal before it evolved.

Somehow more than one motorhead album made it to the list. With a lot of the dame songs. It only needs one and it's this one. It's a very influential album for both heavy metal and hardcore punk. They do one trick, but they do it well enough to justify a 36 minute album. Favorite song: Bite the bullet.

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: Yeah, some brilliant riffs ever present on this Favourite song: Track 1 - Ace of Spades

I had only a passing familiarity with Motörhead from playing along with Ace of Spades in Guitar Hero. That was not sufficient to have me excited to check out the rest of the album. Positive observations first: I really liked a lot of the playing on this. Some good guitar and drums, catchy beats. The lead vocals were definitely the weak point for me. They wore on me. The subject matter at times was a little more off-putting than I usually like in my metal. Some of the lyrics (Jailbait?!) were quite atrocious. After this I don’t consider myself a Motörhead, but the umlaut seems less scary.

kind of ok if you try not to pay attention too much

Some hits and misses on this one. Overall, a good album. 3/5

kaljahirmu seksihirmu pedofiiliaesque albumi, lemmywinks yksi parhaista vokalisteista ikinä, niin mahdottoman paska rööki köhinä vetänä lauluäni sillä. kaiki biisit samoja mutta ei haittaa niin paljon ku kuuntelin lyhyemmän version albumista...eka biisi se on paras. hyvä salilla ace of spades

Ok 80’s rock. None of the track’s really caught my ear and didn’t find the singing anything to latch on to.

It's exciting. It's a joy. It's got elements of punk and hair metal, but it has its own identity. Yes, most of the songs sound the same, but it's unmistakably Motorhead and it's just brilliant.

Love the title track Nothing wrong with the rest but a whole album of it does get a little samey

Album would've been much better if it ended after the first song (the title track). Instead it was another half hour of more of the same but worse. Drum track was uninspired and same schtick with the high energy guitaring and growling, masculine singing was not much to write home about.

Was fairly on board with this for most of the runtime. Lemmy's voice is undeniable, guitars are pretty chunky, and somehow an album with a songs called 'Jailbait' and 'The Chase is Better Than the Catch' is less offensive than the Van Halen record we were force-fed yesterday. Couldn't help but feel things started getting stale as it went on though. Not a ton of dynamics here, in tempo, production, melody, or structure beyond the occasional chug chug moment. Listenable but came through a little bland by the end. Two and a half. Fave track: (We Are) The Roadcrew

I was ready for an awful experience, but it wasn't so bad actually. 3/5 just because I wouldn't try it again.

Lemmywinks Every song is the same lemmy, driving metal. Would listen again.

I definitely had heard of them -- and always loved the umlaut in their name, so fun! -- but I don't recall hearing their music before. I probably dismissed them outright in my teen years when I decided I didn't like speed metal, heavy metal, thrash, etc., even without listening very much to those styles. Ah, youth. So I'm glad this project served up this album today so I could finally actually listen to this band instead of judging them without hearing a note. I found it to be a little bit more "hard rock" than "heavy metal", although there are elements of those styles as well as plenty of what I believe we might call "speed metal" too. I hear some real skill in their musicianship and performing. And they want to up the tempo, wow, they can rock. The songs themselves are not the kind that draw me in and cause me to relisten or seek out more of a band's music, but that's all a matter of personal preference.

Once again, another classic artist I have little experience with and was hesitant to try. I’ve heard the title track a handful of times and never really found the appeal until this go around. The album is way more fun than I expected, with Lemy’s vocals being just barely a step up from your local bar band’s. That’s sort of their appeal though, vibes that say get trashed, fuck around, and maybe try and get laid. Unfortunately there’s Jailbait, which brings the party to an uncomfortable point that it never really recovers from. Everything leading up to that is a good time, and so is everything after it for the most part if you’re able to remove the bad taste from your mouth. Motörhead feels firmly in AC/DC territory, where it’s nothing special but there’s also nothing that hits quite as good as it when you’re in the mood for it. Maybe just skip Jailbait and play the title track again instead.

Can't deny the influence of Motorhead to heavy metal. The combination of hard rock and punk (in sound and attitude) is charming, as is the production value. Standout track is the classic "Ace of Spades" but the rest of the album sounds a bit samey to me. Lemmy is not the most technical bassist but his hard driving bass lines and slightly distorted tone suits the music so that's cool. I definitely enjoy his bass playing more than his vocals haha. Something I don't mind listening to in small doses but not all the time (generally applies to metal for me nowadays).

Loved it classic rock album

A classic, every track is perfect when in the mood for some raw, heavy rock.

Kovaa motörheadin ajoa

Starts strong but some songs are terrible

Ace of Spades is fun, and there's some variation in the album, but not enough for me to want to repeat.

Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Surprisingly good. Not really heavy metal, just hard edged rock. Catchy tunes.

All songs sounded fairly similar but not in a bad way. No song really stood out to me in a good or bad way. Was shocked to read they were English.

It was good Friday music. On a Monday morning, maybe not so much

I'm not a metal fan but I don't mind giving some a close listen on occasion because the best bands seem to take their playing seriously. This one is pretty generic; simple lyrics give an excuse to bang on some drums and get those guitars screaming. Not bad, but doesn't leave me wishing for more.

So they are a cross between late 70s heavy metal and late to the party punk. As such, I was expecting to hate this. It wasn’t as bad as I feared.

It's interesting the cross-over between punk and metal - that would have won them over a lot of fans in 1980. It didn't appeal to me then, and "thrash metal" is near the top of my least-favorite genres list, but listening to this entire album went over better than I was expecting. The riffs, and guitar playing in general, was good, the bass and the drummer kept the pace so fast and driving - they sound like Black Sabbath at 200 bpms. Lemmy's voice is horrible, but perfectly suited to the music. They keep it simple and stick to their guns - you know with certainty that the next song won't be a ballad!

Listened while driving in the car. Felt like one long track. Honestly the first time I’ve listened cover to cover. My score reflects the respect I have for Lemmy.

Lemmy was a very unique musical entity with a sound all his own. Just not a sound I need to hear very often.

Honestly the Ace of Spades was the only Motorhead song I knew before this album, can’t exactly say I missed much. It’s not bad, just average for me, and with all average albums I have to decide between 2 or 3.

noisy metal-shaped sludge with extra guttural vocals. More filler for your generic old school metal playlist. 2.5/5

More fun and melodic than I expected

3/5. Some of motorkill’s best songs but really only 3 at most. Everything else sounds so similar it’s hard to pick and choose which I would rather listen to, and most of the time it’s none of the other ones. Still rocks.

Ain’t sayin this album has the best lyrics or range, but the raw force and excitement you get from it is incredible. Makes me feel like I could punch a hole through another hole. Unfortunately, nothing else on the album really stood out, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. 3/5

Definitely a distinctive sound. I enjoyed listening through disc 1, but now that I'm into the deep cuts of disc 2, I think I've had enough Motörhead for one day.

Well now! This was 40mins of balls out, riff fucking, drum smashing, vocal growling joy! Did not expect this! I’ve shied away from the likes of Motörhead, Iron Maiden etc for no reason in particular and maybe I’ll end up investing more time to them! This was good fun! Love Ace of Spades as an opener, serious nostalgia waves for this one as it took me back to Tony Hawks Pro Skater (bloody loved that game, but I digress) and shitty student accommodation! Is it the best album of all time, no. Is it going to change your life, no. Will you air guitar and bang air drums to it, yes. Yes you will.

I love motorhead in small doses. A while album is a bit much for me lol

ok metal, but repetitive

I enjoyed it. I was familiar with the title song. It was good.

a classic - amazing guitar riffs and the energy is good

This is a solid hard rock-going-on-metal album, but the only song that truly sticks out for me is the title track. That said, "Ace of Spades" is one of the greatest hard rock songs ever, so I feel like that earns the album a 3.5.

those reefs are amazing, played with speed and demonic urgency. Lemmy's voice is a rasping scream, while bass and drum pump their rhythms energetically fast. In 1980 this album was probably terrifying and exciting, now, at least to my ears, sounds like the same song played in 12 different ways, rather than 12 different songs. Repetitive is probably the best description of my reaction by the time I have reached song 10, Bite the bullet. still an amazing album. Best song: Ace of Bases

Classic for a reason, although some of the lyrics give me the ick

Hadn't listened to the whole thing. Ace of Spades obvs the standout but the rest gives you peak Motörhead, which if it's your thing you'll love. I was never huge into this band but find them listenable enough.

Standard 70's metal here. Good enough not to skip after the first couple of tracks. Not good enough to actively seek to listen to again.

I had only heard Ace of Spades off this record and in fact had only heard one other Motorhead song from the Crow soundtrack before today. I get the appeal of this and I like it myself. But I have some questions. Why are all the songs the same tempo? Why is this cover art so awful? Why so many fade outs at the end of songs?

Great album even though every song sounds more or less the same. Gonna go with a 3 for that reason

Motörhead on kyllä yksi helpoiten tunnistettavista bändeistä oman soundin puolesta. Aina se ei ole toki rikkaus ja pidemmän päälle käy tylsäksi. Lemmyn persoonasta lisäpisteet ja kolmonen.

Ymmärrän mistä fanitus kumpuaa. Tykkiä menoa hengittämättä

not too bad, would not listen again

Motörhead can only make one song, but it's a good song so who cares. Look at these guys, dressed as cowboy bikers (or biker cowboys), they are cooler than you and they know it.

Shit shreds, fast paced heavy

Does exactly what it says on the can.

Not a fan of this one. I think the music-making is legitimately good, but it’s just not my genre. I enjoy the upbeat energy and guitar riffs but can’t get over lead singer’s voice. Not something I’d listen to on a regular basis.

kova, roadcrew låter chill

Helt hårtt

Helt stenande bortsett sången om att bonea minderåriga... vad tääääääääänkte han?

Speed round. This was pretty solid.

Ok speed metal

Best Song: Ace of Spades. This song hits you like a truck to kick off the album, and then drags you through the gravel of Lemmy's perfect thrash metal voice. Worst Song: Jailbait. Unless I'm misunderstanding what he means by "jailbait", this song is creepy as fuck. Overall: High speed, killer bass, legendary voice. Honestly, apart from that random pervert interlude in the middle, this album is pretty good, even if it does feel like it starts to lose steam at the end.

Good solid album. Basic lyrics

Weird voice, shit lyrics, good vibes

Dumb but v fun.

Patient zero for what would become thrash metal. The Big 4 of thrash, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax all cite this album as their gateway to what made them great. 3.5 / 5.

Delivers on the title tracks energy, but over time feels a touch one note A solid historical entry, but one im unlikely to revisit

Amazing album opener, the rest of the album was pretty good but can never beat the opener.

Excellent driving music. The song Love me like a Reptile has a line that goes ‘shock you like an electric eel’. And the band MGMT has a song called Electric Feel. Listen to it. Coincidence? I had planned to write derisive things about this album, like how all the songs sound the same and the lyrics aren’t very inspired. But I just realized that those things are OK because all that matters is the unrelenting beat. Is it the drums, the bass, the guitar? Or all of them? *My brother (limpbizkit…) just informed me it’s the bass. And then talked a lot about Lemmy. I won’t steal that info for my review but he said interesting things so I hope he reviews this album.* It is short. But that doesn’t matter because you can always just play it again. Optimally, while driving fast.

Favourite song: Ace of Spades One for karaoke: Ace of Spades One for the car: Ace of Spades. Goes a million miles an hour from the off, right the way to the end. Was convinced every song was Ace of Spades - as you can see

Classic. Definitely enjoyed it

Ace of Spades is great Jailbait is the worst, the rest is solid.

I played some guitar hero, but not that much; I imagine some Motörhead stuff had to have made it into that game, right? seems like the right genre. Any case, guitars fun, songs are sleazy in such a tryhard way it’s alternately charming and off-putting. Also not relevant/bad taste or whatever, but Motörhead fans I’ve seen around on the internet are some of the most obnoxious fucking dweebs on the planet

Classic but nothing exciting

Insane opening track. I think Ace of Spades the song gets overlooked since it's so short but it really is great. Energy from the first note and doesn't slow down. After how many years there still isn't much that sounds like it. Fast paced metal from front to back, almost punkish in pace though.

Pretty groundbreaking stuff for the time. Listening to it in 2022, the sound is a bit thin and I'm not sure when I'd put the album on in my day-to-day life. 3.5/5

Jailbait lyrics 😬😬😬

i dont think i’m ever going to be a metalhead, but this was a fun album. not to my taste, but you can see how it influenced people

A somewhat average album here. Ace of spades is a solid song. Some of the others on this album are pretty bad. The main singer doesn’t have much vocal range and limits the variance in the songs. They do rock pretty hard though which is nice. 6.5/10

So Ace of Spades is excellent, and every other track on this album is “ace of spades lite”. And then there’s Jailbait…

Ace of spades still rules, the rest of the album is samey, sleazy, pretty good. Jailbait was pretty cringey and gross.

I love this album like a reptile. It’s exciting at first but then gets a tad scary.

A lot of it sounds too similar from one track to the next. The title track is inarguably iconic. Outside of this everything else is…fine.

First things first - Lemmy aint going to pull of any beautiful acapellas in this album. But - in the context of the rock and roll that Motorhead play - it works well. Now - obviously - Ace of Spades is a superb song and opens the album. And then we get Love me like a Reptile - which has some questionable pretty cheesy lyrics - as does 'Jailbait' - but - picking up again from 'Shoot you in the back' - it's apparent, every song has a singular focus and thematic lyrics, sometimes drawn out to being cheesy. It's pure unapologetic hard rock and roll - speeding down the highway on a Harley. It's a short album - good at what it does, a fast hard punch. However - there's not much dynamics to this, it's ALL loud and fast - and sometimes that can get a bit tiring to the ears. To be truly effective, sometimes, you need to give the listeners ears a rest. 7/10

Surprisingly listenable! Of course they had to list after under age girls, write about, record it, and no doubt perform it. Was four stars, but knocked a star off for misogyny.

Starts hard and never gives up. After about three songs I started to wonder what it would be like to be Lemmy. Everything fast and loud and always vocally straining like your trousers are too tight. By the end of the album all the intensity got a bit tiring. Title track is awesome, everything else here tries to do the same thing and largely misses.

Exactly what you expect for an album that starts with Ace of Spades.

Liked energy of drum/guitar/bass. Enjoyable to listen to, but questionable/superficial subject matter.

buddy holly but make it metal?

Ace of spades is great but Motorhead aren't exactly a varied band. Also, 'Jailbait'? Oof.

Right off the bat, I had to check and see when Kill Em All came out (1983) so Metallica was probably inspired by Motorhead to some extent or maybe they knew each other but that 80's metal opening of banging on drums before those chords begin is a classic.

If you're going to be known for one album for most of your carrer, this isn't a bad one to be tagged with.

Never been a motorhead fan. I had always heard OF them but never heard them. I was definitely into this kind of music later in the 1980s and I think this album was just ahead of my time, so that is why I missed it. Ace of Spades is definitely an easy song to call the 'star' of the album. The rest of the album definitely sounds like my kind of music. It's a shame it took this long for me to hear it. 3/5

starts and does NOT stop

I didn't really notice any songs other than the title track but they were all pretty good but a bit samey. Hard to dislike overall

Never knowingly listened to anything by this band before. Couldn’t find much to fault in it, just good old straight ahead rock and roll with a fair dose of thrash in it. Clearly laid a lot of ground for metal to come. As usual I find the metal attitude a little boring and one note. I did appreciate lyrics that were largely free from posturing about spiritual, philosophical or political evil. No grandiose pretensions here, just your basic lifestyles of the rough and rowdy.

Jailbait is er questionable. Generally the songs are listenable with good sonic textures.

A good listen and something outside my normal music preference

Ace of Spades is a good song but I didn't really love any others. Not bad but I don't need to hear it again.

Based on my experience with the Live album I trimmed this album to it's base 12 tracks instead of the additional 15 on the deluxe editon and it was much more palatable. Still probably a bit too soon since the live album was only 5 days ago. Anyway, Ace of Spades is still great, (We Are) The Roadcrew is my fave from this one.

pummelling, growly, groovy

A fast, loud, straight forward, slab of rock. This hurtles past in no time without pausing for breath. The lyrical content would be enough to get Lemmy cancelled multiple times in 2022. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Ace of Spades Date listened: 15/04/22

A collection of bangers! Lemmy doesn’t drop the vibe in any of these songs.

I lost my virginity to Mötorhead. They each took turns to fuck the shit out of me. It was neither fun nor meaningful.

Pretty fun, I respect the fact it partially started a whole genre that I do really enjoy. Some of the lyrics are a little questionable

Ace of Spades is cool but every song sounds just like it. Enjoyable album but I can survive just hearing Ace of Spades at random occasionally.

Motörhead always goes down easy, hard rock done well and fast

Some classic hard rock on a Friday, alright! I've never been a Motörhead fan, but I can get down with this. The guitar does all the work. The lyrics don't offer anything meaningful or profound, but that's what I expect from my rockers. Just a lot of guttural urges and bravado. And that's okay. "Jailbait" is creepy and gross though, that's not cool. Side note: I did not realize Motörhead was such a sexual band in terms of lyrical content and it is not a turn on. I think people who’ve had sex with Lemmy are entitled to some kind of financial reparation.

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. A lot of it sounded the same but was enjoyable.

Way better than expected but not much variety

Decent but slightly repetitive

5/10 mid tier hard rock album that loses an entire point for the existence of Jailbait

If I wanted to hear Ace of Spades ten times in a row I’d love this album. 5/10

It must have been groundbreaking when it was released, but it isn’t my kind of music.

Eu não consegui ouvir até o fim, não é o meu tipo de música

One good track. The obvs one, the rest not so good.

A good metal album that paved the way for better metal, and which has been overshadowed by those better albums, unfortunately.

It could just be the title track for the whole duration and it would still be just as good.

I'm amazed that Lemmy managed 40 years of fame from one song.

A bit of 1980 heavy

Pretty sweet album, I love the vibe. RIP Lemmy.

Ah Lemmy, Philthy and Fast Eddie at there best here with obviously there "Anthem" "The Ace Of Spades" a highlight but overall a good album, which has some merits. I can see why some may see this on this list but not in my collection.

Heavy riffs and a lot of them, and Lemmy's voice. "Ace of Spades" and "Jailbait" the two best songs in my opinion. The album can get repetitive but short enough to not get boring in my opinion.

Cover reaction - Emo 80’s Cowboys? Sick. Dad rock for sure but absolutely an album to drive to.

This break-neck sprint of an album is a striped down and pure cut rock gem! The sound of the group lives right at the intersection of punk and metal and there is absolutely no pretense about the fact that they came to party. Each track has an almost bootleg quality, which is a testament to the skill and sensibility of their producer. On the whole the album is fairly uniform and a bit of a one-trick pony, but I happen to really like that one-trick, so it suits me fine.

It had a lot of bangers and ace of spades is of course a monster of a song, but the album was a little one note to me. Still enjoyable with all its energy.

3 för att Lemmy verkade vara en skön jäkel

Meh. Obviously Ace of Spades is a classic. Everything else seems to blend together.
