So this is what hipsters like to listen to
So much meh. 1.5 stars.
This album has kind of an ambient, quasi-psychedelic vibe, but I don't think they've made up their mind if they want to be in kind of a noisy realm like the Breeders or if they're looking to be a little more experimental in the vein of Radiohead. It just comes out as a muddled product. Second half of the album appears to be better than the first. My pick for this album is Desire Lines.
Very drony. Interesting guitar parts and creative chord changes, but really overly drony for me. Not interested.
Nothing amazing about this airy album
This is a band that clearly finds itself fascinating but it bored me.
i honestly don't know, maybe it's a good album but im definitely not hearing it again
Didn't have to turn it off. That is as much praise I can give!
Not great. Easy to forget.
not my favorite
It was okay
simple but ineffective :/
honestly not my fav, kinda boring
Erittäin outo ja "raskas" levy. Taisin siirtyä suotaan podcasteihin tämän perästä kun ei tehnyt mieli kuunnella enää musiikkia :D Pitäisi ehkä nähdä ja kuulla musiikkivideona jotta sävelet saisivat myös artistin maalamat kuvat visuaalisesti esille?
Hassu kokemus. Kuulosti siltä, että joka biisillä eri säveltäjä. Ihan ok kuunneltava
So, I am going to file Halcyon Digest under, "albums that I am not smart enough to understand why they are so great". Is Halcyon Digest different? Yes. Is this album technically "music"? Probably. Do I want to listen to this album again? Not really. Digging deeper into the band Band Deerhunter reveals that they are of the noise rock/shoegazing genre, which makes perfect sense after listening to Halcyon Digest. Heavy use of guitar effects, distorted/echoing vocals, random sounds sprinkled in - it has it all and then some. Also, when Pitchfork gets all excited about an album you know there is some level of pretentiousness and unapproachability for the average listener. God bless the people who are into this type of music, you deserve your exclusive fan club that us regular schlubs will not gain entry to. All and all, Halcyon Digest was tedious to listen to and I just don't get the appeal. You can call me old for being out of touch with the music that the kids are listening to these days, but I just can't with this album. It gets an extra star for being different, but that's about all that is redeeming about Halcyon Digest.
Sounds as if an indie version of George Harrison was on the verge of falling to sleep. There are some pretty moments, but I don't think I will ever think about this album again
I just don’t get the appeal of this dreamy indie. It’s pretty boring, there are times with a bit more energy like Desire Lines and I like He Would Have Laughed. 4.3/10
The opening of the album was challenging. Still adjusting to the experimental vibes I have encountered on this journey. But by the end of the second track I was into the groove of the album and allowed myself to just inhabit that space. Good experiment for stretching my musical tastes, but probably not something I will return to.
There was some really fun stuff here but the rest of the album sounded like the fun stuff but not as fun.
this isn't bad, but it *is* the exact flavor of boring indie rock that plagued me for about 2007-2011 because every guy who would hit on me in certain settings would tell me I needed to listen to it, they're very literary (use wordsrlike halcyon) and that it really captured their innermost feelings and then I listen and it's just, like, "isn't it sad that time passes and the last time you see a friend might be the last time you ever talk again? deep moody thoughts in here" yes?? life's a bitch and then you die that's like the whole point the xerox flyer promotion scheme described in the wiki page just sounds like "street teams" of the warped tour era but for kids with a printer in the family room ok ok I'll stop now musically it had some bits that approached fun
some songs were fine but others i did not vibe with
Default preset indie rock. First song was really cool, then it started sounding more and more like Youtube "How to uninstall McAfee tutorial 2015 punjabi" background music, with the world's most generic vocalist singing over it. Third time I've heard this album and I still don't get it. This seems like something I would eat up like it's breakfast, but it doesn't seem like it'll ever click. Shame on me.
Som bem chatinho, desnecessário
AJ: no matter how “indie” you are, the first song on your album can’t fucking suck this bad. 5 minutes I’m never getting back. Sounds like mmj without any feeling at all. Which is hard to do. Tin can vocals aren’t cool, you sound like shit.
Meh
Nice sound, easy to listen, but too plain. Needs some more rhythm
A rather moody indie record. It’s fine but he sounds like he’s drooling the whole time. At least it has some semblance of atmosphere.
It was interesting, very melodic, quiet, thinking music. It reminded me a lot of Vampire Weekend, but not as good. It was ok, I don't think I'll be recommending it to anyone
I can get into dream/psychedelic/indie pop, but this one didn't provide enough of an engaging soundscape for me. In fact, this album felt like it just dragged on and on, a lot longer than the 45 minute runtime lead me to believe. It might require another listen. Best Songs: He Would Have Laughed Listen Again: Maybe
This came out around the time I started reading Pitchfork. I listened to it quite a bit as it had some hype. Didn't click with it then and didn't now either.
It's fine. Some cool instrumentation, but not really my jam.
It's OK. Drags on a bit.
Just alright. Very mellow indie XRT feeling album
Not for me
Sounded pretty standard to me, not a bad album but nothing i will remember.
Just about tolerable.
There is nothing, and I mean nothing extraordinary about this album. uninspired Lo-fi indie distortion rock that meanders between annoying and almost good. There are one or two good songs, but the album as a whole I'd pass on.
Simply a bit boring. No song captured my attention. All digestible but nothing captivating.
Tried this one and found it unspeakably dull.
I grew up listening to this kind of indie rock in this time period. While I don't dislike the album, I'm failing to recognize how this album stands out among the other lo-fi, garage rock albums of the era. Good album, but not among the 1001 must listens of all time.
Liked it. Probably not remarkable enough to listen to ever again, but it was nice enough.
Meh.
This basically sounded like a very boring Tame Impala record
Good to have some experimental and slightly obscure indie music on this list, I guess. I’ve listened to Deerhunter on occasion, but don’t find them to be that memorable.
„Nett …“
ok
Halcyon - denoting a period of time in the past that was idyllically happy and peaceful. If nothing else, thank you Deerhunter for expanding my vocabulary, best of luck in your spooring endeavours. 2 lexicomane dictionaries out of 5 📙📙
Didn't get to the end of this...dreary, run of the mill indie fodder
OK album, don't mind listening to it, but also wouldn't mind if I missed this in my life. Nothing special
Bit too boring with some exceptions
Where’s Waldo (or Wally) presents a unique sensory pastiche, one that demands a close examination to seek out hidden delights - much like this album. However, like this album, once you’ve found Waldo, there’s not a lot to keep you pulling it off the shelf. That said, I got sedate Wilco vibes. I can get down with that.
Couple of pretty good songs. Pretty dull though.
surprised this one is here it came out in 2010 so its not that old but it isn't very popular or influential very forgettable indie folk 2.5
Meh. Nothing here that I can appreciate... Except the production!? 2/5
It was fine but didn't it sound like British Invasion 60's? Maybe a Dave Clark Five albums with a blanket over the speakers.
kinda boring.
Nighttime gloss on a broadish selection of guitar music is as indie as it gets. The production gives a smooth arc to the proceedings; Call that success. Not a memorable night.
Incredibly boring, but maybe I'm missing something.
was background noise. did not stand out in anyway that made me care about it.
It was ok, some spacey indie ‘10s action
The mysterious album cover inspires some curiosity, especially being a band I've never heard about. However, it's just generic 2000s rock without much personality. 2 stars is enough
Okay I guess. Just a bit bland. Nothing bad but nothing good.
Listened Before? N Oh lord. Indie rock from 2010... aka hipster shit. I'm good on this. Just because it has low production value doesn't mean its good. I'll pass. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Revival (because it's short)
Pulling from a lot of different genre influences, but rather than resolving into something like an "eclectic mix", which I'd be more on board with, it just becomes a sludge
Not something I found particularly inspiring. I was tolerant of music like this when it was new and fresh and I'm less enthusiastic about this sound now. There was nothing wrong with it but it didn't strike me as particularly beautiful or well-crafted given the sea of similar music from the same time period. Perhaps I missed something?
Kinda boring?
To ethereal/ experimental.
Feels like it’s trying to take itself wayyy too seriously. I can only imagine these guys playing this live.
Another boring one to me, better than Steely Dan but not enough for me to bump it to a3. Favorite song: Coronado
Int jättebra om du fråggar mig...
Mostly boring
Boring songs that left a lot longer than they actually are.
Tyytyy hyvään soundiin, ja koukut jäävät vaisuiksi. Minkä takia voisi olla perusteltua erotella tämä hittejä sisältävistä kakkosista kuten Musesta. Toisaalta taas mieluummin erottelen tämän ykkösistä kuten The Young Godsista.
Didn't love this album when it came out, didn't understand why it was making so many critics albums-of-the-year lists, still don't like it 13 years later.
Njaaa niet top
It's like nothing ever happens on this album. Not bad or anything. In fact, not anything at all.
meh
Another unfamiliar one. I've never really known the difference between Deerhunter, Deerhoof and Deer Tick, and have probably confused one for another along the way when their names do come up, which seems to be frequently enough. I'm midway through my second listen of the evening on this one, and while I'm enjoying it a bit more than the first time it's still not doing a whole heck of a lot for me. But that seems to happen with a lot of Indie darlings for me - it's part of why I just avoided so many for so long, but I've been pushing myself to dig a little deeper and have found some gems along the way - but this one just isn't for me.
I don't understand the hype behind Deerhunter.
not my cup of tea
Chill
Dont remember a single song
Fine to listen to, not really anything to shout about but better than I initially thought it would be
This is another one of those 9.2-rated, best new album Pitchfork listens that I'm always eager to listen to...and then I just don't get it. I never connected with this Deerhunter album. I thought this band was a little harder rock, but it was a little more experimental and spacey than I expected. I could probably come around on them with some prolonged listening, but it didn't happen today.
pretty generic indie sounds of its era, nothing too exciting and not much different from Monomania (which is better). not sure why these people are considered "influential?
avaappa poika albumin sivu ja kato mikä iskee silimään... genreissä indie.... yrittää tehä jotain,,, hei käytetään kalikkoja tehdään ääniä ! crazy talented guy claps blocks and makes beat... no mutta pitikö siitä albumia tehdä. insertti onko tämä tärkeä albumi kommentti tähän. noh pari ok biisiä... sillon tällöin vokaalit hittaa... ja ambientti pistää pään sekaisin.... annetaan kaksi... desire lines
idk 2
zu langweilig
Yawn! I kept waiting for something interesting to happen, and it didn't. Just more chill vibes, which is fine I guess, but you can definitely skip this one. My top pick is 'Memory Boy' as it's the only track which made any impression.
Not for me
Some of the songs are tolerable like Revival and Basement Scene. But most of the album I found actively unpleasant, especially Earthquake and Helicopter. Overall this album is one big bummer.
Bang average
A pretty typical indie album that isn’t incredibly fascinating. Some of the album is a lot of synths and Lofi style sounds. The few songs that are a bit more mainstream are okay but still somewhat lack luster. I’m sure in circles there are people that love this album but I was not feeling it. 4.9/10
I think this is the definition of a forgettable album. Not like it was bad or anything but there was literally nothing that stood out to me on this album. I couldnt even tell you a song and I literally just listened to it 2 minutes ago. Boringggg 3/10
Generic yet weird. Boring yet confusing. Nothing terrible and a lot of variety, but not memorable.
Please no more bland indie
Generic indie rock, reminds me of some bands I like, but I did not like this one.
Sounds like your typical indie band. Are all indie band studios actually echoey abandoned warehouses or something? This did absolutely nothing for me.
Eh, not really a big fan of this one.
This really isn't doing anything for me. Seems like a tired mashup of a dozen different styles, none of them done particularly well.
An album that shifts between sleeping and sleepwalking. It’s not an offensive album to the ears, but lacks oomph. There are some songs with a bit more life at least, that help bring you back from the brink of total snoozing. That said, it could be a perfect after party album to wind down on or something you have a trip to.
This is not really my thing, but I kinda liked it for what it was, a new experience.
Today's treat was an indie rock band Deerhunter with their 2010 album Halcyon Digest. After some initial reading about the group and their music, I was very interested and was hoping for another record like I Am A Bird Now by Antony And The Johnson, something innovative, but entertaining and solid. Instead, the album sounded like it came straight out of the manufacturing belt in an Alt-J factory. Nothing on this cd screams (or even talks loud, going by this small metaphor), that any song is great or exceptional. In the ocean of new and old indie rock bands, Deerhunter is just another fish. There was one song, which I liked - Desire Lines. It had some nice moments, especially towards the end of the song, when the music was actually sounded like some dreamy sequences. Otherwise, I can't recall anything special that happened during those 45 minutes. I am disappointed by this album and I will gladly forget anything about this over the next few days.
I've never listened to Deerhunter but have been aware of them for awhile. Album was solid but kind of felt like a watered down version of other bands I already listen to. I might give another Deerhunter album a try in the future but nothing here grabbed me that strongly.
Halcyon Digest is alright objectively, just not my thing. Too indie, too stripped back and soft, admittedly has a nice resonance in places but not enough for me to give it more than a 2/5. Helicopter is charming though.
This sounds like someone making music as art rather than as music. It took until the 5th track before a song resembled music that wasn’t nonsense. The better songs here are Memory Boy, Desire Lines, and Fountain Stairs. The heavy reliance on reverb, echo, and feedback give all the tracks a space, unreal quality that perhaps is supposed to sound like dreaming or something. I don’t know. It also sounds like the songwriter typically grabbed the first three or four note hook he landed on that day and just made that the song for five minutes. There doesn’t seem to be any structure applied to the tracks. I read that this album and the band was given high ratings by critics. I wonder why. I wonder why I should care what critics like if junk like this is considered art.
Hum drum indie guitar music. Nothing special at all. A bit low key.
very indie. Not really my vibe
Ziemlich langweiliges Album ohne besondere Höhen und Tiefen.
Not sure why this is on the list. Fine but not ground breaking.
Not for me
I’m
Aburrido
Pop com alguns momentos envolventes.
i want to cry and not in a good way
ok
Never heard of this band before this. Probably for good reason. It's just boring. Bland and boring and every song sounds similar. Completely forgettable. 2.5/5
Fine, dull, won't listen again
Sssssslllllllllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwww.
angst-wader
👎
Meh. It’s ok, I guess.
2.5⭐
I've always struggled with american indie. it seems like its good with talented musicians, a nice style and what appears to be a strong scene. it has a lot of the hallmarks of something i'd like but it's just wet. It's far too introspective and dainty, there's never any weight, anger or grit to it. if they whacked on a bit of fuzz and got pissed off they've got all the goods to make something really enjoyable but as it is you just get this feeling that the singer has got rejected by a girl, started crying about it and has inconsolably pissed himself on his bathroom floor after drinking shit wine. which is fine, but don't write a song about it and try to inflict your self loathing misery on to others. got enough of my own thanks.
As a regular hunter myself, I find it hard to believe that these kids have ever hunted anything. The lyrics are whiney and it's all a bit too angsty and teenager in love to merit my full attention. Of course, if it's only deer that these boys are hunting then I can't comment. They aren't real men like me. I hunt humans. In particular, vulnerable women and children. That's why any music I make is fuckin' badass, unless this useless shite. I could order this music at moonpig.com.
Easily forgettable.
Five, bit boring
Moderne indie, dreampop, svævende vokal
No review. I listened to it Friday, and it’s Monday and literally nothing stood out.
Full "meh". Possibly the most Meh album I've ever heard.
Chato.
Interesting & different… enjoyed listening
Almost every song felt like it was just a slow burn towards getting started but then nothing happened. Memory Boy was the first one that at least started with a quicker tempo. Haven't heard of this group before but I would have been comfortable not knowing for longer. Doesn't need to be on this list.
Nothing terribly bad about this album. Also nothing memorable about this album.
Атмосферно, но не понятно
Ehh.
Just so bland and samey
Weird indie. Not for me.
It waffled on for far too long
4.5/10
Not very good.
I don't care. This music is all kinda hollow. Nothing here to hold my interest.
Not really my taste
What have I heard?
OK sound, but too slow and soft for my taste.
Not especially interesting.
Not something I really enjoyed abit slow
Nothing to remember 🙁
le tracce interessanti sono poche. a livello musicale c'è qualcosa di apprezzabile, ma è troppo [o troppo poco] Indie per essere aver influenzato at qualcun altro
Not my genre. Tried to listen and just tuned it out.
Lo-fi psychedelia. My favourite. Only joking, this is terrible.
I wouldn't say this is bad, but I also wouldn't say it's good, interesting, engaging, or that there is any chance I will ever listen to it again. It's just a bit slow, gloomy, whiney, and dull. 2/5.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. It reminds me of Guided By Voices and various DIY indie bands from the 80s and 90s. I like the concept - songs about imaginary concepts - but it all starts to feel quite samey. Individually there's a lot to like about the tracks. I might listen to some tracks in a playlist among other artists, but I don't feel like there's anything significant about Halcyon Digest as an album. That's my first impression.
Hard meh.
Almost fell asleep but a few songs were alright
It was ok for background music but really low energy naval-gazing type alternative rock. First song led me to think this was going to be a lo-fi electronic beats but then realized it's not after. Not my thing, but when I was depressed I probably would have loved this.
Each song sounds like there is a germ of an idea, but it needs a lot more development to me. It just doesn’t sound that great.
One word Wednesday: disappointing. ⭐️⭐️
mmmm nop. Nothing particularly interesting here.
bit hit and miss here, and even then, the hits aren't amazing
interesting
Not a fan of the first track, although I do enjoy the atmospheric clean guitar. Too much space, gives me anxiety. The samples are cool though ngl. (Earthquake - 1/5 Second tracks beginning reminds me of Elliott Smith. The fuzzed out guitar right panned sounds incredible. Still undecided on how much I enjoy the vocal deliverance. Vocal harmonies are amazing. Don’t really like the ending though. (Don’t Cry - 3/5) Third track starts out more upbeat, feels like the album is beginning to go somewhere. I love the instrumentation here. There’s an absolutely FUZZED OUT guitar track hidden in there, again, incredible touch. “It doesn’t make much sense” Woah! That punchy delivery was incredible! (Revival - 3/5) Fourth track is returning to the moodiness. Intro clean guitar and vocals, drowned in hall reverb. I find the vocals kind of hard to discern in the mix, I can’t hold that against the album though. This track fails to catch my attention. Out of the songs so far, this is my second to least favorite. The least favorite being the opener. (Sailing - 1/5) The fifth tracks intro is great, it feels like a set up for something greater. Vocals hit, and I instantly love the song. By far my favorite on the album so far. The droning note at the end of each phrase sends goosebumps down my arms. Pre-chorus is really catchy. The drums are incredible in this track, I absolutely love them. The vocals are clear, less whispered. Middle instrumental interlude is tasteful. The guitar walking up and down the scale sounds great. A very long cut, over 6 minutes long. Middle instrumental begins to drag on. No return to vocals, instrumental permeates through the ending. (Desire Lines - 4/5) Track six’s intro is unconvincing at first. Return to hard-to-hear vocals. Two-three chord song, until clear break towards the 2/3rd of the song, pace change, not bad by any means, but just mediocre. (Memory Boy - 1/5) Track seven has a cool instrumental and vocal drone intro, I really like when the drums come in. I like the chord progression, very reminiscent. This track shares DNA with the previous track, but for some reason, I find myself finding this song much more. (Basement Scene - 3/5) Track eight is incredibly underwhelming, I don’t like the drum sample, and the lyrics sound like every other word that has been uddered on this album. (Helicopter - 1/5) Track nine, Another underwhelming song. Seems to me the song quality drops off dramatically towards the latter half of the album. Nothing about this song catches my ears in anyway. (Fountain Stairs - 2/5) Track ten has a very bare piano and acoustic guitar intro that builds into a mass instrumentation. I do NOT like the vocals, I just find them incredibly annoying where they sit in the mix. God bless the sax solo though. (Coronado - 2/5) The final track has quite an interesting slap back delay acoustic guitar intro. You can HEAR the vocals in this mix, but they are still drowned out with hall reverb. I don’t get the appeal of this track, although the guitar riff is very catchy. (He Would have Laughed - 2/5) The album is a 2/5. An underwhelming experience, just feels like an electric Neutral Milk Hotel. The album definitely has a feeling, don’t get me wrong. It’s very consistent and I applaud it for that, but none of the tracks, besides two, do anything for me.
Rating: 5/10 Beat songs: Desire lines
A decent album. But not super memorable.
teilweise netter Gitarrenrock, aber warum das in die Liste muss, naja...
Chill background noise. Not as good as Wilco imo.
not for me
Not very exciting
Like a less accomplished mix of Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend and MGMT. Of course Pitchfork loved them.
Deerhunter is clearly talented. That said, they are not my cup of tea. A couple of alright songs are peppered in but mostly the album was a grind for me. Sad, lonely, depressing shoegaze is just not my forte. I'd give it a 1.5-2/5. Lotta filler and messing around, but clearly talented musicians trying new things (for 2010) that's just not my style. Definitely could have died without hearing it.
medio indie, shoegaze, no me gustó. Sonido como pop fiestero inglés de los 90. También tiene un sonido que me evoca a las canciones de los 60".
Eindelijk weer iets moderns. Klinkt zeker niet verkeerd, maar doet me te weinig om mijn aandacht voor een heel album vast te houden.
meh his vocals annoy me
did nothing for me
It was OK. I thought at times it was a 2.5-er. As I've been grumpy this week I may as well keep that going.
Ok
I dont know if i like this album or not. 2 seems low and 3 stars seems high. Its really confused me
Generic indie rock. Might be good for its genre but no sympathy from me for the genre. Sounds Beach Boys-ish at some point.
Rock pop indie. Aburrido.
Not my style, very boring and making me sleepy. I think if you like beatles, you would like this one.
Soft, experimental, entertaining.
Nothing really stands out about this album, I almost forgot that I listened to it earlier. 2.5
Wow this is so boring. "I didn't even realize music was still playing."
mellow listen
Good background music but wouldn't put it on to listen too.
pretty boring. a little slow for my tastes today
I really liked the song desire lines, I will say that it gets boring near the end. The rest of the album is ok.
It was ok background music, but it didn't stand out much to me.
Ok the album cover is creepy as fuck and ordinarily I get jazzed by this kind of music but just wasn’t feeling it
Before listening: no idea what this is going to sound like but I'm kinda expecting hipsters. While listening: yep, hipsters. Alternative indie rock type stuff, no clue why it's on this list. Boring. 2/5. After listen: yeah, that was just hipster drivel. Hope someone enjoyed it, cause I didn't.
Enjoyable, but forgettable
Another ambient, psychedelic, shoegaze album. I'm not a fan of the "Let's all get high and stare at a blank wall listening to a mediocre album" sub-genre of indie rock. There's also an unnecessary distortion on every song, and all it does is make me mad. I've tried listening to this band before, and this album makes me remember why I gave up. I will say "Memory Boy" was decent, and gave me some "Yellow Submarine"-era Beatles vibes. But over all, not for me.
Pésimo...
What the fuck was that? Good thing we left Animals by Pink Floyd off the list so we could make room for this steaming mess.
Whiny, mopey crap
🤨nope
Pseudo Marc Bolan effort
This was literally SO boring that it made me angry
Not bad.
This album exemplifies everything I hate about music from the 2010s. Honestly was going to give this 2 stars, but I stepped away briefly before writing this review and realize I can’t think of how any song sounded and have almost zero remembrance of this album. I just know I didn’t like it while listening to it. So yeah, 1 star it is.
Much of this sounded like noise or like a teenage garage band that did not understand musicality. The only song I would listen to without turning off the radio is Desire Lines - that might actually be good, although my ears were so numb after 5 songs that it is hard to know if my definition of good had fallen to "not terrible" by that time.
Mehhhhhhhhh
boring
When I first began this journey, I obviously wanted expand my horizon. This included resolving my ongoing battle with 2010s music. I have never liked music of any genre in that decade(other than some major hits of course), so I figured that maybe, just maybe, I wasn't giving it a fair shot. Unfortunately, this generator has only confirmed my disdain for music in this decade. It doesn't help that it's a Shoegaze album(puke), and that combination has made this a truly agonizing experience. Favorite Track: "Sailing".
Apparently, this is their 5th album. Who the fuck is buying this dull and dreary mush?
Yeah, I don't get this one. Not that I don't get this music (I do, anyone with a Bandcamp account or an ex boyfriend with a delay pedal would) but I don't get why this is the one that's on this list. If there are more shoegazy, noisy indie-hipster hell rock albums on this list, they'll almost definitely be better than this one. Less boring, at the very least. All I can do is pray for My Bloody Valentine (or christ, even Duster!) and wait for this whole thing to blow over. I feel bad being so mean, but this album constantly skirts the line between being pleasant enough and pissing me off. Final song in tribute to Jay Reatard? Pleasant enough. Annoying vocal effects making the sincerity of that tribute seem dubious? Pissing me off. If my friend was in this band, I'd probably go to the VFW shows and take their picture for Instagram.
nahh niet weer shoegaze
I lived through this era I was probably supposed to be the demographic here. The era of Pure X, Grizzly Bear, Foxygen etc. I feel like this band bounced off for me several times because based on the name alone I would have checked them out. I disliked this album. It feels like style over substance in a way similar to the Black Keys. The actual songcraft is completely missing. There's no hook at all, the tracks were frustratingly aimless. This should not be on this list.
nowp
fine i guess, but boring as anything
The only redeeming quality was the springsteen-esq horns on the penultimate track. Boring
💩
Caught me on the wrong day
What the fuck was that. More American shit from people who think their the best. Big headed and loud. Go and do your flag shagging somewhere else. Tossers
Zzzzzzzzzzz
1. quake - 1 2. cry - 1 3. revival - 1 4. zailing - 1 5. boy - 0 6. linez - 0 7. zcene - 1 8. helicopter - 1 9. ztairz - 0 10. coronado - 1 11. laughed - 1
Huh....what? ... No i was awake the whole time! I did not sleep! I loved the album especially when they were singing and the part were they played instruments.
Mal wieder unerträglich für mich. Einfach nur langweilig!
competently made but i couldnt stand this
This was just noise for most of it. Hope I get something good next.
Couldn’t finish this.
You couldn’t sell this shit in a discount bin. Not sure you could give it away. Naval gazing moaning boring repetitive BS.
Meh
Three stand-out tracks for me. The rest was pretty forgettable.
Much more atmospheric than I was looking for. Didn't make it too far
Soullessshit
another indie/psychedelic maalsef
What a way to close out a week. Could have used something more interesting, enjoyable, upbeat, fun, less low-fi. If you like low fi bland, mopey, aimless folk rock, well, here's your album. I'll pass.
so schlecht habs gar nicht zu ende gehört
Even the band seems to hate this music
Maybe it's the fever from this flu taking over, but did this even exist? I just finished listening to it, and I remember nothing. When I'm not dying, I might give it a second playthrough to see if I can retain ANY of it, but based on the first listen, which I'm positive I attempted, it's a fail.
This vocals were in audible at times. The production seemed so sloppy. Even if I tried to look past that this was very boring. It sounded all too similar, nothing distinct.
Not for me
• weirder start ins album • geht bisschen lame weiter
Good thing I wasn't driving with this shit on. I would have fallen asleep and hurt someone.
Awful
I remember back in 2010, after growing up with the big rock burst of the 90s-00s, I went off new music because it felt like every album that the critics recommended was a boring, atmospheric snoozefest. This is the exact sort of thing I mean
Pretty boring really
i did not like it
meh
Mmmmm, nei. Enten krangling i ørekanal eller helt anonymt.
Trendy too clever name? Check Concept album with a weak concept? Check Dead band member? Check Sorta not bad but not good? Check Not really remembered outside a small clique of white boy critics? Check A mishmash of bs genres? Check Extra points for dedicating a song to a no talent, in this case jay reatard? Double check So mediocre that the universe turned itself inside out rather than suffer this. I present 1001 albums you must hear before you die poster child.
I can't even get snarky about it.
More wishy-washy indie that never actually goes anywhere and sounds like it was recorded in a shipping container. I try to pick a highlight from every album, but I genuinely cannot differentiate between or remember any of the songs. It wasn't offensively bad, but I'm tempted to give this 1 star because of how fucking boring the entire thing was.
Sick of these wishy washy modern indie records that are just so shit!
Is it "Deerhunter" by Halcyon Digest or "Halcyon Digest" by Deerhunter? I'll never know because this is unlistenable dreck.
Somehow haven't heard of them? But I didn't miss out on anything. Worst type of indie bullshit, some sad boy strumming his guitar with shit vocals that make it hard to understand what language he's even singing in. God, what a bad album 1/5
Drivel
couldnt get past the first 10 mins, just not my type of music
Kjedelig
Wow ... that was pretty awful! I love how Wikipedia states that this album was released to Universal Critical Acclaim! What!? I can already see this album has a solid 3 star average rating which means people either give it 5 stars or 1 star. Well I am definitely giving it 1 star. Absolutely nothing happens in this album. It's like they come up with some simple riff, and then just play it over and over none stop for 3 to up to 7 minutes. I just have to wonder, when you think of a band going into a studio, there has to be a sense of excitement creating a record. We're these guys actually excited creating this album, because it sure doesn't translate onto the finished product.
det er meget kedeligt. nej nej nej. coveret er et billede af mig, der beder til at det snart er ovre
Dull, too dreamy for me
Eiih...
Nääh.. Arppa on paaljon parempaa
Ei, tämä on kuraa!!
★½
1 stern
Not for me
Really
Was just not in the mood for this, and skipped most of the songs half way through, when it was clear it just wasn't something I liked.
Not my vibe, muchacho
I think I need to do another listen LOL but I was bored.
We get it, you're cool. Too cool to try, too cool to care, too cool to even lift your head up. Wait, are you dead?
Hard going.
Couldn’t really get in to this, felt a bit flat and boring
I can tell that this is art, but it is not art that I like
Nothing moved me here - not gonna be coming back to Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
I didn't care for this album
just not a fan, the lo-fi was really hard to get into specially after listening to violator... a decent listen but was hard to get into it , right afte the first 5, we have the first 1 !
Dreary
halfway through i figured id just say "painfully average" and give it a 2/5, but it got worse somehow? its so fucking bland and boring and repetitive, maybe 3 songs on this album are any different from the grey mass of whining and sad fucking guitars god the guitar riffs sound like shit, this isnt music, this is angsty fucking losers jamming together anyway the 2-4 songs that are different arent good different, they still fucking suck. god whats a waste of fucking time NNN
twee 2010s indie pop rock drivel
Alternative music from the ‘10’s.kinda boring music. Pass.
I was sooooooo bored. Bands that take themselves this seriously and without any joy or whimsey really have no place in any musical lexicon. Let alone a list like "Must Hear".
Sleepy and repetitive.
Generally uninspired background noise.
Some music is so bad it’s offensive, and you just want it to stop. Some music is just so boring that you don’t want to listen to any more of it. This one is much more of the latter, with a touch of the former.
A distinctively forgettable American indie album.
Oh jeeeez is this dull. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't even see this as being influential or anything. It just feels derivative and a slog. It was hard to finish. Boo!
I actually like the first couple dreamy songs but the rest of the album is boring tame impala wanna be indie man music trash.
Was there a Producer for this album? It doesn't sound like it. The band also appear to have given up after the first three tracks. They couldn't be arsed. And neither could I.
Juat another indie group with mello depressing music. Not a fan.
no.
Man - not gonna lie, this album is just dreadful... With albums like these, I used to say "what warranted them getting onto this 1,001 list in the first place" - BUT now I'm looking at it in terms of what potentially great albums got left off because of this trash... There were 2 songs that I flagged in "Desire Lines" & "Helicopter" the first-time through - but upon subsequent listening - it's NOT that I sorta like them, it's just that they sucked less than everything else... "Basement Scene" is by far the worst song on the album... Sorry - no redeeming qualities in this swill that I can find... This gives true "indie" a bad name, as this is just lazy and self-indulgent all-the-way-around...
Not for me. It may be well done but what do I know. Not enough depth of sound in the instruments or voices.
Schon wieder eine US-IndieRockBand von der ich noch nie gehört habe. Und nach dem Hören weiß ich auch warum.
Meh
Wikipedia gives the music genre as Psychedelic Pop / Dream Pop / Indie Pop / Noise Pop - change pop to pap and you'd be close. Prentious boring noise!
yuck revival desire lines
olvidable
In what world was this, "released September 27, 2010 to universal critical acclaim."?!? There is nothing here. It's a total waste of time and the band should be ashamed for having made this. This is 46 minutes of filler.
Oh my god. I don’t know how I’m supposed to get into music that sounds like the musicians are bored out of their minds even while making it. There are two tracks that DON’T do this and they’re nothing special. (Prior listen)
Shoegaze: mumble rap for white hipsters
Not a fan. Pretty dull.
