Reviews (page 6 of 8)

It's alright.

Nice and chill album, it was a good listen and nice ambiance overall 3 / 5

Gemiddelde dreampop.

Very good for the genre, just not my favorite genre. Some nice moments though

I didn't hate this. I actually kinda like a couple of tracks. Especially Fountain Stairs which kind of reminded me of Wreckless Eric Whole Wide World in a way, not as good, but kinda struck that memory chord..

I enjoyed a few songs but this was another one where the music was a little too dreamy. I didn't really get around to the lyrics.

In my Spotify Top 100 of 2022 I have a Deerhunter song - at song #101, if that makes any sense - "Helicopter". I listened to the LP, Helicopter does stand out, it sounds crisper with more synth than the other tracks. On my second run-through the other songs stood out more, a sign of good song-writing. I don't play guitar but a lot of the chord progressions sound pretty simple to me. At dinner my co-judge said it sounded "okay", which is a more ringing endorsement than she gives most. Between a 3 and 4 for me.

There are some nice moments on this indie dream pop record, but most of it is simply too dreamy for me. When they pick up the pace on Desire Lines and He would have laughed it improves immensely. Basement scene sounds like a blatant knock off of the Everly Brothers Dream. Helicopter is also quite ok. I still find the album cover by George Mitchell to be a bit unsettling though.

man y'all are just curmudgeons 3 stars

Day 9. November 2nd 2022.

3.5 stars. Pretty decent indie. Fairly psychedelic and more poppy than rocky, but catchy at times. And a good listen. Lot's of variation in length of songs. Standouts are "Revival" and "Fountain Stairs"

Favourite song: Desire Lines One for the karaoke: Coronado One for the car: Memory Boy Enjoyed this. Some of the songs sounded too similar, though, which is why it’s a 3 from me.

Not my favourite, bit of a strange vibe, couldn't really get in to all the songs but not terrible. Favourite song was Memory Boy. Very indie

Not bad but could have gone my whole life without listening to it.

Somewhat of a concept album. Listened on the day the Queen died. Probably needed to give the lyrics more attention. Not a great listen but He Would Have Laughed is a fantastic discovery. Very moody.

Pretty okay alt indie fare

As with most of these albums, it is okay. Like I said early on, I tend to stay in certain boxes, certain genres and it is hard for me to sometimes think outside of the box.

Not the style

was expecting something a bit darker but I ended up enjoying it a lot in the end anyway even though I'm not the biggest shoegaze enthusiast I liked a lot of the soundscapes but some of them were almost irritating, for example parts of Helicopter and the sax on the later tracks, but I think the production quality salvaged it a lot

Alright to listen to, didn't really jam to it or hate it.

Cool little indie album, I thought it was super soft and melancholic

Maybe two memorable songs

"Desire Lines" was my favorite song.

I don't know....kind of pretty at points, some interesting noise stuff, but not grabbing my attention all that much

I really like this in a cool indie shoegazey kinda way and WILL explore their back history. Its light and left field. Though to be objective im not sure what makes it one of the greatest albums. Hon a give it a standard 3.

A kind of mediocre indie album - at times interesting but very forgettable.

Average

Pretty cool creative psychedelic indie rock. Definitely some good songs but not super consistent. I thought the album started slow and got better as it went along. Favorite songs were Memory Boy, Desire Lines, and Helicopter.

Kind of reminds me of interpol, enjoyed it

I dont know how to rate this one. I enjoyed it when i was in the mood for it. Then had meetings and house bs to do and i come back to it and didnt enjoy it. Second listen didnt clarify anything in the feels department

I liked this far more on second listen with headphones. It made it much easier to hear the production and layers that make some songs more complex than I realized. There are a few standouts I would listen to again in the future. Favorite: Desire Lines

weird but good

Not bad but nothing special for me. I liked the B side the most, high point was “He Would Have Laughed”

It’s ok. More of a background music album than something I’d actively listen to. The opening track is pretty interesting but everything after is pretty standard for it’s genre I think.

Cool shoegaze

Reminds me of skin shape but not so psych

Wilco-Lite Nice production, good music but nothing that grabbed me. Maybe it isn't for me or maybe I have it all before

Good, but never understood the hype.

Also just kinda bland. I think we need a palate cleanser

this feels like an album i’m gonna revisit in a few months and really like, but right now i don’t really _get_ it.

All new to me, and I like what I heard. Interesting compositions, kept my ear engaged, and solid performances. I'll give this one more listening time and check out their other work.

Fine enough!

Good just really melodic

Indie pop. Ni fu ni fa.

This album felt very of its time and reminded me of bands like Tame Impala and War on Drugs that I tend to like more. It's a mix of differing styles, with some shoegaze and other more pop-oriented tunes that make it a bit erratic, but at few points did I find it irritating or too far afield to make sense. I veered between 2 and 3 but there was enough good I thought to round up.

chill, neat

Fine but doesn't do much for me...

The first track had me worried I wouldn't make it through this album. Thankfully it got more listenable, but never rose to the level that I would actively seek this out to listen again.

I’m not exactly sure what to say. Most of this album is listenable, but nothing special. A couple tracks I would turn off.

Was interesting music and I liked some of it.

Couldn’t work it out. Some magical moments mixed with turgid waffle. Glad I’ve heard it but wouldn’t go back in a hurry.

I'm not convinced that anyone in the world considers this to be their all time favourite album, but it's alright I suppose. I feel like there was a lot of this kind of music 10/12 years ago and it doesn't particularly stick out like a sore thumb, or like SHACK in Tokyo. (He's there for the school girls).

Fun fact pop pickers, I always get Deerhunter and Deerhoof confused. Make of that what you will. This is fine but if I remember correctly I prefer Deerhoof. I think.

Ágætis plata.

I saved a couple songs from it, not the best I've heard so far

Was expecting to enjoy this a lot more, but by the end of the album I felt it so Indie it just becomes a bit dull. One I might need to come back to again to fully appreciate.

Indie pop. Ni fu ni fa.

Nice to see some indie-rock bands here instead of just older classic rock albums. This record has it moments and there are some good songs here, but overall it didn't capture my attention as much I had hoped. Good effort, so I will listen to more from the band.

Ok laid back indie rock with some psychedelic elements. There is a nice vibe going here

At first I was very against this and thought it was wishy washy nothingness. BUT it grew on me - there were some stand out ones among a few that just sort of blurred in. I knew the last song - must have been on a Discovery Weekly and reminds me of Lockdown 1

Seemed completely up my street at first but I didn't find it particularly memorable, not bad though

Landfill indie, made mildly more interesting by being American landfill indie. Like an NYC version of Doves, if they had listened too nothing but Hail to the Theif. Not really my thing, not bad for chilling out with glitchy guitars and engaging time signatures.

Dece. Should revisit sometime to actually listen to the lyrics, but the vibe was good.

This is the fifth album from the indie rock band Deerhunter. The psychedelic / indie pop album was released to critical acclaim. The music on this album is beautiful and meant to romanticize the past as well as produce a sense of existential dread. Definitely a super chill album - and this doesn't mean the music is slow - just that the theme of the album is mysterious and kind of sad. I liked this album and I guess I'll have to check out more music from the Deerhunter band.

Tranquil but odd

Fint, men kanskje litt pregløst (?).

Great album absolutely loved the bedroom pop vibe

Nice sound. Was an enjoyable listen.

Indie rock I guess. Not much happening here for me. I feel like I should know this band, given it's so recent, but I can't say I know anything from them. Not bad, not great, just alright. Favorite tracks: Memory Boy, Desire Lines, Coronado. Album art: A bit creepy, a little woman (or little man in drag?) kneeling in prayer. Black and white works to make this creepier. 3/5

I wanted to like this more than I actually did. Ill give it another go some day but today I was just not feeling it. It might be some leftover fatigue from the album I had before.

It was pleasant and relaxing enough. I understand the appeal, it feels very lo-fi dreamy. I was into indie rock and indie folk my freshman year of college, but I've never heard of this. I had a couple friends that would've liked this a lot, I bet. First song was cool. I really don't see how this album got onto this list though. I feel like there's a ton of this style of music out there that's more well known/influential. I do wonder what people will remember of this genre in 50 years; for some reason this music doesn't seem like it will stand the test of time. I usually have given 3's to albums I enjoyed just fine, but don't need to hear again, which describes this album perfectly.

Solid collection of indie rock and indie pop. A bit too spacey in places for my personal taste, but quality songs throughout. Favorite Tracks: "Earthquake", "Don't Cry", "Memory Boy", "Desire Lines", "Helicopter"

pretty good

Hlustaði ekki til enda. Fín bakgrunnstónlist. Þarf að hlusta betur

This had me moderately interested in the band. Not a bad pick, solid indie pop.

nice indie alt album

Wasn’t in the mood. Maybe on a different day?

January 22nd 2022. The best of this album IMO: - Don't Cry - Revival Man I love me some hipster music. 3.2/5

It's not too bad but don't really know why it is on the list.

Solid indie album but nothing there that I would listen again to.

Alternative music. Good group of songs.

Small intestine kinda thing

sounds like some all the other modern psychedelic bands, just not as good. a snoozer for me.

Mumbo jumbo

I enjoy listening to dreamy alternative songs like these on rainy days. I especially liked Earthquake!

To me, it seems like where Radiohead would've ended up had they not embraced their experimental side.

psychedelische Musik, eignet sich im Hintergrund

Some very good quality tunes by this band I've never heard of

Nice background music. My favorite songs were Desire Lines, Fountain Stairs, and Coronado.

More like Hipster Digest. This album had a strong back half for me. Highlights: Desire Lines, Helicopter, Memory Boy

The person on the cover looks like if Ellen was a little person in a nightgown and wig. I enjoyed listening to this band. Pretty cool album.

Got half way through. Not bad but need to give it another chance

Don't Cry is a good tune. Chameleon by Blanc sounds like a infrigement lawsuit waiting to happen. Most of this album was a pretty easy listen.

Interesting production but kind of bland songwriting

Mundane

Hints of the more experimental end of the Beach Boys, particularly Smile, and of Mercury Rev. Songs are mini-symphonies - or bags of bits, depending on your perspective. Some pleasant moments, but not fully realised - their reach exceeds their grasp, which is not a terrible failing. Better than not reaching at all.

Fine pop-rock. Not great. Not bad. Fine.

I'd been agonizing what to think about this album all day, and played a bit for my spouse, who immediately said "I'd listen to this as background music just fine but I don't love it and I can't understand anything he's singing." I like the mood it sets and how it evokes certain eras with the music. I can't find a whole lot of meaning in the lyrics, but it seems to have been made that way. They like to repeat phrases at least three times in many of the songs. I'm told the songs are inspired by images in memories (real or imagined) without much explanation and the lyrics just come as they come. I like "Revival," "Memory Boy," "Basement Scene," and "Fountain Stairs." "Sailing" sounds to me like the 60s classic "Onie" by the Electric Prunes. "Coronado" has a somewhat 80s saxophone solo! The album seems to end very abruptly at the end of "He Would Have Laughed." Was that as it was supposed to be? Very jarring.

Not unpleasant sounding, but rather meh for me. A couple of moments where my ears perked up, but overall, it kind of just sounded like background music even when I was focusing only on listening.

Helicopter is good

Quiet, unassuming, pretty

2nd Listen. Great sounds. Love at least half of the songs.

Pretty good. Better than I expected

Wasn't my favorite, but it sounded close to something I would like. Pretty neutral overall.

I remember liking it more when it first came out. Fine but not earth shaking.

fantastic atmosphere, unfortunately doesn't do too much else that's notably interesting. 3-3.5

Eh. Not really my cup of tea but it's good for background music when gaming.

Sounds good. Need more listening time.

Trippy

Establishes a mood and has a couple of gems. I remember listening to this a lot when it was released. The first Deerhunter album I really listened to.

Can't help but be reminded of my times at ATP. Happy memories, wrapping in mostly-boring indie music.

Food album with some gorgeous songs. Sweet harmonies, tight rhythms. I'm close to giving this 4 going to settle on 3 🌟

I liked listening to this one; it wasn't a bad experience. The high points of the album felt high. However, the low points felt a bit awkward. Favorite track: Helicopter

Strange unique sound Sometimes it gets repetitive 3/5

I understand enjoying the psychedelic vibes of pretending to float away in space, but I can't stomach the heavily reverbed guitars, loud drums, or the breathing in my ear for too long, which are way to noticible on the first three tracks. Though after these, when Deerhunter abandons a pure focus on psychedelic sounds and goes for a more indie-rock aesthetic, I find that the album improves significantly. Standout tracks are the slow and melancholic Sailing, the relatively energetic Desire Lines, the catchiness of Fountain Stairs and the mysterious distorted vocals on Coronado. 3/5.

Not my cup of tea.

Meh, nothing new, nothing special, didnt kew this band and I know why. The álbum is ok but not for this list

interesting, sounds very heavily influenced by Blur.

Musically good. Lyrics were too quiet

Really enjoyable, striped back pop album full of lovely and poignant songs that can just wash over you if you’re in the mood to listen

Started slow but really built steam by second half - Jesus and Mary chain vibe - I liked it a lot

Ok, I guess? Nothing special

3/5 Okayish, but nothing memorable

So far not the best thing. "Revival" is a nice change of pace. Best song so far. "Desire Lines" was also nice. So far they're also the two most popular songs on the albums if Spotify play count is to mean something. Hopefully that means I'm in for at least another 2 songs I like. Eh. Not my cup of tea. Too drippy reverb. I get it... it's fun to play that stuff. But it just doesn't do much for me as a listener anymore.

Me recuerda a Arctic Monkeys, ta piola.

Very unique production applied to fine pop songs. Not my bag, but not bad either. I can walk away at least appreciating this.

Started out not thinking much of it, but it started growing on me. Psychedelic pop meets power pop, to me. I listened to it a second time. Ok, but I'm not compelled to add it to my collection.

Quite enjoyed this. 3*

I already can't remember much of this album. Fine I guess, bit electronic for my tastes. 6?

I think this album grew on me over time. I tend to find a lot of neo-psychedelia/psychedelic rock disappointing, I guess because I expect something interesting and adventurous like Ween, but I end up with what is more easily described as slow and meandering indie rock. While I think a few songs on here fits that description, there are some pretty good tracks on here too ("Earthquake," "Memory Boy," "Desire Lines," and "Helicopter" stand out to me.)

ok, didn't blow me away

Minimalist alt rock with attention to detail and lots of imaginative and interesting textures

I loved the production but didn’t love the singer’s voice.

I think I saw them open sometime during/after college. I don't recall them making much of an impression, but I do remember them being Pitchfork darlings. This is pretty amorphous music, it could be recorded anytime within the past 30 years. Memory Boy and Cordnado and the boy who laghed are pretty catchy,

Thought it was gonna be too sleepy but not bad

Overall it was really solid. The atmosphere it created was unique, and I enjoyed it. There were some standout moments, such as “Desire Lines,” but as a whole it was just good, not great.

Ah yes, the early 2010s and their bubblegum my electronica and high pitched vocals and washed out guitar. I really wish this was Cherry Glazerr or Beach House. Catchy. Glitchy, but I could have picked a few better albums than this, say Fear Fun, I love you honey bear, Yankee Hotel foxtrot? It's odd how something so young is so dated somehow. Enjoyable regardless

Enjoyable album, however, I don't how much of a replay value it has for me. Let's give it three stars anyway.

Enjoyable to listen to, no particularly memorable tracks.

Self described “ambient punk”, psychedelic shoegaze indie pop rock

I like this. I prefer the songs where the sound isn't all mushy and diluted, but overall this was good. 3 stars.

Not bad. I would listen again

Doesn't seem to be my kind of pop.

Not bad.

Interesting

OK but didn't make a deep impression. Sounds like a lit of things, but then again maybe a lot of things sound like this. Feel like it might grow on me with repeated listening.

Some draggy boring songs but a few really interesting ones too.

A shame Spotify burnt me out on Revival, this is a great LP that sounds surprisingly modern for being released 14 years ago. I do wish they had leaned in more on the more expansive, wall-to-wall production rather than the standard indie rock fare, but this is still a solid listen through and through.

3 stars

Some kind of indie band. Not bad, but not wildly memorable either.

Not bad

cool but wont listen again

Bra, men inte riktigt tillräckligt med attityd.

It was okay.

Nice enough background shoe gaze

Another in a line of albums that mildly appeal to me but don't compel me. Much like the Tori Amos album yesterday, I like it, but about halfway through the listen I became aware of the fact that I couldn't tell the difference between any of the songs. Still, I didn't dislike it. 3 stars.

Enjoyed this. Nothing particularly interesting or exciting, but pleasant enough collection of songs.

not for me

Was okay. Few songs were great, others were boring.

This is one of those shoegaze bands that occasionally forgets to put a melody or intelligible lyric into their music. They come up as a suggested band based on other bands and genres that I'm into, but they've never been more than just okay in my eyes. Best track: He Would Have Laughed

Reminds me of a softer Interpol in some spaces. I like when it gets weird with it (some weird sound effects, a really great saxophone solo), but other than that it feels very calm and timid. Favorite tracks: "Earthquake", "Desire Lines", "Coranado"

1/29 Nice dreamy project. Standout Tracks: Earthquake, He Would Have Laughed

Previously unknown. Mostly too gaze-y, but I got it in some spots.

Damn this album was bad. Some rich dude had kids, and let those kids think everything they did was good art. This album took 9 songs to get anything that would earn more than 1 star. And really it had 2 songs i didn't want to forget. I bet those kids paid a membership fee to get their album on this list.

I don't think this will be very good at all. It's a late 2000s indie rock album, which scares me(despite the fact that it was released in my birth year). Unfortunately, my suspicions were correct. A lot of times, the music is barely even there, and when it is, it's mediocre indie pop. I've completely lost my patience for this shit that nobody cares about. Lyrics are...ahh, who gives a damn when the album is this boring? Again, there is no world in which this album is essential listening. It's basically list filler, like the other 9000 mediocre indie albums. This album is the lowest ranked album of 8 2010 albums globally. Other 2010 albums rated by me: Brothers(1/8)-3 The ArchAndroid(3/8)-5 Queen of Denmark(7/8)-4

Didn’t find all that much to enjoy with this one

Not my jam.

I was never entirely sure what that was or where it was going. Not unpleasant, but not particularly notable either.

It was ok. A bit boring, nothing really stood out.

The first track does not set this album up for success but it blends into an alright album. I was a bit bored though

I thought this album was... okay. There was nothing all that special to me about this. I wouldn't really say that there was anything that stood out to me other than 'Basement Scene'. I think that the album was an alright length, with nothing too long or tedious, but at the end of the day, I didn't find anything all that exciting. I feel like I have nothing much to say on this, but I can't seem to think of anything that would make this album 'influential.' Again, the only song that slightly stood out to me was 'Basement Scene'.

Listened

Extremelu dull 00s indie wank. Nothing really stood out on this one. A must listen to album? Not really sure about that.

Nothing exciting. It’s too boring to be awful.

This was some seriously spaced-out stuff. I didn't understand a lot of the lyrics, and I understood them less when I read them. Went to my trusty friend ChatGPT and asked, "What's the deal with this album?" The response: "Memory turns pain into beauty, but it also distorts reality." Call it a bit too distorted for my taste.

Deerhunter is not my kind of music. I just didn’t vibe to it. It wasn’t bad. I just hear anything that caught my attention to where I needed to pay more attention to it I guess I’m glad I heard before I died but I probably could have died and still not missed much.

It was ok, not a must listen in my opinion

No fav song

chille shoegaze maar niks unieks

Could not get into this at all.

What a snoozefest. Didn't resonate with this at all, but it wasn't absolutely offensive either.

I’m at a loss when it comes to the more recent picks on this thing. There must have been a surfeit of insipid and mediocre music by artists only ‘those in the know’ have ever heard of. Seems like the arbiters of taste don’t have any, who knew?..

Erg atmosferisch. Niet perse mijn soort muziek

Loved the album art but the rest just gets a big “Meh”. A bit too wishy-washy for me. Sligthly psycadelic but with no real edge. Some hipster shit. Strong 2.

Liked some songs but not others that were too slow. Beats weren't that catchy

Weird and uncomfortable.

Boring

This was weird and not great. All the stuff felt like it went nowhere and was super out there, especially "Basement Scene". I can't say I liked this too much but it wasn't the worst. Probably a 1.5/5. Liked Songs: "Don't Cry" , "Revival" , "Sailing" , "Desire Lines" , "Fountain Stairs" , "Coronado"

Another "not really my thing" album. I wasn't even aware of this band, which reinforces the "not really my thing" sentiment. There was nothing awful, so bad I had to turn it off, but equally there was nothing particularly good.

Very sad album,, the kind of album you go listen when life feels...weird and kinda empty

Idk I think I need to listen to this album when I'm not super tired

Aaaaand I'm bored again. Eh, I did enjoy Basement Scene and Helicopter back to back though. And the last track is maybe a bit long but a decent finish. Soft 3. Harder 2.

Slow and uninteresting. This is depression music at it's most boring. There's a vibe here, but man is it a let down.

Ok, I little sleep inducing, be a good album to play for insomniacs.

Why?? Why this album? There are so many better albums from this time. And why is there an outsized amount of albums on this list that are depressing

Notable Textzeile: Did you stick with me? Let me jog my memory I see you leaving Oh, don't forget your TV Ja, das ist langweilig.

The album grew on me the longer I listened but at the same time it felt monotone. I was wondering if the album had looped and if I had heard the same song before. The band really succeed in setting a mood and feeling. Its not a mood I personally want to stay in very long but that doesn't mean I cant appreciate some of the songs. Just not most of them very much.

There’s better versions of this

This band has so much potential that is just pissed away on most of the tracks on here. Earthquake is such a great song and I was excited for the rest, then it just turned in to major key, reverb tainted, indie whining. Desire Lines almost brings it back but then it goes right back to terrible, boring, uninspired crap. This could've been so interesting and moody and good, instead it goes in the "not as coked up landfill indie" pile.

I didn't hate this as much as I expected to. It's mostly pop-oriented shoegaze with a lot of the melodies leaning on '60s bubblegum. I guess I can see how people might like it, but it doesn't do much for me. Even at its best, it sounds like something I feel like I already heard someone else do much better.

Feel I'm being overly mean on this album, but the genre seemed like it'd be more up my alley and it really didn't do anything for me. Not bad but I don't see why this one is on the list, kinda bland, plus I wasn't huge on the singing. Was over before I knew it.

Highlights: Memory Boy and Desire Lines. 2.9

Listening was a chore

Didn't care for it

Hazy, inward-looking indie rock / dream pop built from reverb-soaked guitars, understated rhythms, soft synth undercurrents, and distant, almost fragile vocals moves like flipping through faded photographs in an old shoebox—nostalgic and quietly intimate, though so subdued that its emotional pulse can feel muted rather than fully alive.

Didn't really feel it.

Groupe inconnu. =>2/5

This is not special.

Not my style, but at least bearable. Would give it another listen.

This is #day555 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… this record reinforces my belief that music died somewhere around the turn of the millennium. What started promising (I really liked the first song) quickly veered into late-'00s indie schmindie, and by the middle of "Sailing," I was dozing off. Do you have to hear this before you die? Rarely has a question felt so rhetorical. This is a 2 out of 5. Looking forward to #day556.

I got the point three songs in. Vocals are buried in a tub of reverb. It’s definitely a vibe and not a composition in terms of what you’re listening to. But not something I will return to.

Not that interesting. A little boring for my taste, it’s not really mi style of indie rock, I like it to be more heavy and riff orientated. I liked some of the songs but I wanted to skipped most of them.

An indie rock album that honestly didn’t do much for me. I didn’t find it bad but it also didn’t wow me.

Another indie rock album that was overhyped, I got it and was underwhelmed

Zzzzzzzzzz

Too slow for me didnt get to listen to much but just wasnt for me

Boring

Before: I have to say, I'm surprised to see this album on the list. I know there is at least on song on it that I like a little but cannot say which one it is. Songs from the album used to get recommend to me all the time by my streaming service. I guess it sounds like a lot of stuff I was listening to in the early 2010's but this one never really clicked with me. Maybe this time around will be different. During: Earthquake is interesting but I wouldn't mind if I never heard it again. Same for Don't Cry. I like Revival a little better not enough to add to my favorites from 2010. Checking my DB, I find I have one song by Deerhunter on my 2008 list and one on my 2019 list. That's it. Sailing, is a pass. Memory Boy, nothing wrong with it really but this same song or similar has been done plenty of times before. I'm leaning toward a 2 at this point. Desire lines is OK but there is something undefinable that is really annoying about it. In fact that is the case for most of their music. It will be interesting to read some other reviews and see if anyone else feels the same way and is able to articulate what exactly is the problem with their sound. Helicopter is OK, but nowhere near getting on my favorites from 2010 list. He Would Have Laughed, this is the one that used to pop up all the time from my streaming service. It's OK but quite annoying at the same time. I would usually skip it when it came on. After : I can name at least 12 albums from 2010 that I like better than this one. Looking at my top five, only one artist is even in this 1001 albums list and that is Beach House's Teen Dream, also from 2010. For reference, my other 4 top fives from 2010 are Tall Hours In the Glowstream from Cotton Jones, Bubblegum from Clinic, The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night from The Besnard Lakes, and You'll Understand When You're Older from Venus Infers. Hmm, Discogs lists the genre style as Shoegaze, Art Rock, Indie Rock, I would agree with the last 2 but Shoegaze?, I don't think so.

Very shoegazy, intro song was interesting, I liked it at first then it became boring and redundant, like bro change it up. Revival was a favorite though.

This was alright, but I wasn't blown away. Very flowy and musical, but not super interesting to my ears, and kinda whiny. I wouldn't put it on my 1001 albums list (if I were making one, which I'm not, haha). Two stars.

So amazingly milquetoast. It's indie pop at a level I don't really care about.

meh. boring

I like the shoegaze elements but not the dream pop part of this. The problem is that I think the dream pop takes up most of the space. A song like Helicopter is just terrible to me. Some tracks remind me of weird solo John Lennon, which is not very fortunate.

Too Indy for me. 2.5/5

Nothing special but fineish.

Quite the accurate album title. While I’m sure it’s a reference to a chemical induced state, this album has a fuzzy, not quite able to focus dream-like feel. If I’m going to feel that way, I want to be under the covers, perhaps just having hit the snooze button.

A couple of great tracks here, but I just can’t get to it.

go girl give us nothing

🫩🥱😴

Not much going on here, it’s non offensive, but not very interesting either.

not for me

First part of the album is very trip-hop, Massive Attack coded. A bit slow and mellow for my taste… The second part I enjoyed more, very Inhaler coded. Overall though I prefer smth more exciting. Fav song is ‘Fountain Stairs’.

I don't know what this band was trying to achieve. There are some nice melodies and pop sensibilities mixed with arty nonsense.

My first impression of the album (the cover) was about as good as the album. I hated this. Shoegaze is an interesting genre, but it's hard to do right. This is a wonderful example of how to do it wrong.

No. Too slow

Found this one pretty forgettable and I have no idea why it's mandatory listening. Not awful or poorly done but I feel there's 1,001 albums that sound like this.

I was really not in the mood for this. Nothing stands out, the production is a loud over compressed lump. Not required listening.

This type of music is just sort of a blur for me. Lots of sounds but nothing that I can remember it by.

There wasn't much in this album that jumped out to me. It's indie rock, but it's not the most interesting or valuable indie rock from the era.

I knew nothing about this band until today and I hope I never hear from them again

Some nice and dreamy songs, but overall not that great.

There is SO little to this album, honestly, and it's so fucking boring. There's nothing arresting here, just kind of listless vocals and weak backing music. The drums are so basic and nothing. It's like one big, pathetic sigh.

Hmm... Not really my jam. Was okay, but nothing I would listen to in my free time.

This album missed me. Like it's just boring. None of the tunes made me think I needed to relisten. It's not a bad album, they have talent, it just boring.

Certainly unique, but it didn't really move me.

Boring

It's okay. There are so many better albums in the world..

Not special. So there's no Ben Folds albums, but there is this? It's not bad, by any stretch, I just don't understand

Favourite track: Desire Lines.

Joj ne znam...

Kind of a snoozefest for most of the album. Desire Lines was really cool though.

Cool chill vibe

A bit dull and uninteresting

It was fine. Your typical indie album. I never need to hear it again.

I have never heard of Deerhunter. When the album opened, I was intrigued by the dramatic melody and looking forward to the journey the album would take me on. That thought quickly soured. I was drawn in by the ambient feel of the initial melodies, but the distorted vocals grated on my nerves. I think the lead singer came across as inauthentic to me and that’s why I can’t connect to the album. I’m not sure if it’s the use of distortion or his tone, but something felt forced. The album as a whole feels uninspired. The somber writing didn’t resonate with me, which is weird because I typically like feeling in my songs. It’s as if the songwriter thought he was saying so much that he ended up saying very little. The lyrical repetition is more irritating than impactful. I think they should’ve left the 60s garage band sound back in the decade it belonged. I cannot understand why this album is a must hear.

Boring Indie crap.

Eh? It wasn't bad, but I really had no interest in it.

Chill, but like four songs played and I didn’t even notice it had changed.

Music by People on Antidepressants for People on Antidepressants (?) At some point around 2010 this weird limpness started pervading and then predominating "Alternative & Indy" music. Across sub-genres and styles recordings suddenly featured a noticeable lack of passion, energy, and emotion and a reliance on computerized soundscapes for intensity. This album fits squarely into this category. It bores me, sure. But it also frustrates me because I feel like there are musicians in there who just need to put down the blue pill and take the red.

5/10 - I thought it would be a bit more experimental but I can't really recall much, the first song is interesting but the album is kind of meh

Opening track hit a big mood for me today. Sucks that the remainder doesn't follow that thread.

Never heard of them before. Some decent tunes on but also some annoying pieces. In total nothing really remarkable for me.

Uninspiring electro/folk/psychedelic indie. Well executed but boring. Favourite tracks: Desire Lines maybe?

Not my thing. One word to describe it. Boring.
