Reviews (page 7 of 7)
At first I genuinely thought Scott 2 was some kind of parody album or a joke. It sounds like a cancelled, overly serious version of Mike Flowers, minus the humour or charm. I honestly can’t believe this made the list. The music is miserable, the songs are sung badly, and the lyrics are dated and painful. It’s all melodrama with nothing underneath it. This was a real slog to get through and I can’t imagine any situation where I’d ever want to hear it again. Favourite track: None. I couldn’t pick one — every track was awful. Least favourite track: Every track. Album artwork: Crap.
Would not be surprised if he were named in a certain large file…
(28/100)
This is absolutely not for me. Lyrics-first, big (small? medium?) band style music. Pass x10.
It must have been good in its time. Now in 2026 it's soporific
As politely as I can be, this is a no for me.
Didn’t listen
Pretty bad.
I'm from Wisconsin, so if I see the name Scott Walker I'm out. Sorry, not sorry.
Wtf are the lyrics? Overly dramatic and pompous.
Meeh
Hier heb ik niks mee
Didn’t really do it for me. Some nice ballads near the end and some instruments I don’t hear as much contemporarily.
This is my second Scott Walker album from this list and I hated it even more than the previous one, Scott 4. It bored me so close to tears that it’s getting the wooden spoon. I will shit bricks if Scott 1 or Scott 3 make an appearance here.
Hey. Why the fuck is this guy here again? I’ll give this album this. It’s not as abysmal as the other one. But Jesus here’s this awful crooner ruining a Tim Hardin classic.
I tried, I even went to the good ratings and listened to the songs they said were the best, but this is pure misogynistic cheese. Out here making me hate cheese.
Oh absolutely NOT. The orchestral drama was already teetering on the edge, but the moment he started in with “I followed a naked body, a naked body followed me…” I was DONE.
Just because you can make music doesn't mean you should. Rather, the lyrics are what you shouldn't ... do. This is like the audio version of the movie "The Room"
Oh god, I hate this already. This type of voice is not my jam.
It's a no for me dawg. The singing doesn't really match the music. It's just weird and awkward at times
Why? Just why? This is so pretentious it hurts. Definition of 1-Star
Feels like Ron Burgundy making up lyrics with Disney orchestra playing behind him
After listening to the song The Girls and The Dogs, I now know that this entire project is a psychological experiment designed to make us question our taste, our sanity, and our selves. Well, guess what… I’M FINE! I know who I am and what I like and you can fuck with my head but you can’t take my mind! You won’t break me you sick, sick generator! NICE TRY!! HHAHAHAHAHA NICE TRY!!!!!!
Not my cup of tea
Nothing special on this. Wouldn’t listen to it again
Not even worth a listen
Not for me
This is like sitting through a Vegas lounge act. I'm NOT drunk enough for this bullshit.
Why this dribble would even be considered on any list (except the worst of) is beyond me)
ahhh, shit. hes back. pass.
I hate this album. cannot get through it honestly. Thanks but no thanks
Really not for me.
roughhhhh
Nope, this is absolutely not for me. It feels very self-indulgent and over the top. Like it belongs as part of a musical or some overly theatrical performance. Another reviewer had a good observation, it seems like mediocre James Bond music. This is one of my least favorite albums on this list so far.
I don't know why but I literally hated this. I don't like his voice, I don't like the fact that it sounds like a cheesy movie musical but with none of the catchiness. I don't know it just did NOTHING for me and I was waiting for it to be over the entire time. There's just no way that this is in the top 1001 albums. No way. Maybe because it sounds like bad 1980s music but it was released in 1968? Still. Just not it for me.
Wasn't a fan of any other the other Scott albums and this was no different. Biggest standout for this listener was some pretty messed up lyrics. I did get excited about Best of Both Worlds but quickly found out it wasn't the VanHagar song. I did think of Van Halen and that's the best thing I can say about this album. 1
Not for me. 1/5
Yep, no. Just no.
Sorry but no Scott
my worst nightmare
If Metallica's "...And Justice For All" was cruel, then this is clearly unusual punishment. What did I do to deserve this?
First I thought this was going to be Scott Weiland from STP - and then it was this…. Not a fan of this at all.
This album sounds like an old musical. I absolutely hate old musicals. Walker's singing and sometimes songwriting are good, but I'm not keen. How did a week that started perfectly turn into a nightmare? Scott's discography seems to get better in the years that follow, but none of those albums are on the list. 1 star for "Scott 2".
Christ this sucks
Not my thing. Interesting to see where other artists have got inspiration from this artist
Joy, pure unbridled joy, was my feeling when this pretentious over-affected baritone gobshite stopped singing.
I usually really like music like this: solo vocalist with big orchestral arrangements. I think I hated everything about this record: the lyrics are cloying and immature and sexist, the arrangements are often boring or poorly mixed, and I don't like Scott Walker's voice. I didn't like this record, and I probably won't listen to it again
Sorry fam, I couldn't get through this one. I appreciate that he had a run of albums simply named "Scott 1-4" but this is not something I'm capable of enjoying (beyond being slightly surprised that the phrase "stupid ass" was used back in 1968).
If Neil Diamond met Johnny Mathis and that creation was soulless and even more boring.
Sounds like any of these songs in the album could be in a Tarantino film!
I'm not into it. At all.
Folk/ contemporary, not sure. Strange music.
This guy just seems arrogant to me. And without the genius to make it acceptable. He thinks he's Zlatan when he's is actually Bendtner. I think it's the album title. Scott is such a generic name as well, like sorry mate you're always going to need the second name before someone know who you're talking about. I can only imagine Scott 1 and Scott 3 are more of the same irritating baritone swagger over a harpsichord. "Scott 2 be a 1 star"
<< the Beatles Hey, what if that cheesy and cliche music in 60s movies, ummm.... Sucked and had no charm?
It’s like if a middle school boy tried to write awkward, uncomfortable poetry for his crush and then put it to royalty free music he found in a trashcan. No.
Very uninspiring, the vocals and background music is fighting each other to be on top. If I wanted to listen to a guy talk in a singing voice, I would've just gone to lecture. Favourite Song: The Bridge
Over emotive
i just don't like this.
Like really bad musical theater.
eesh, Tone deaf
No thanks.
I enjoyed none of this weird British man talking at me to bad lounge music.
Man you the sad part is I liked the actual music but the vocals just sucked
Musically I guess this could be 2 stars - not interesting but not offensive. But he hates women so much it bumps it down to 1 star
somehow sounds like christmas music
Nope. Too much talking-singing. Not for me.
Homophobic and misogynistic frank sinatra wannabe
1,4/5
Sounds like a bad Disney movie.
Crying with laughter at this album title. What is this album?? It's weird top to bottom. I like musical weirdos, this stuff is so unnecessarily misogynist for a list like this though... and it's not the type of weird I needed to hear before I die. (Weird I need to hear before I die: The Shaggs Philosophy of the World.) The music is well arranged, the vocals are decent, the songs are interesting enough. The only thing that stands out though are the lyrics and those are edgy teen jokes written by a 50 year old. Don't need to hear this before I die at all.
No va
Viel Orchester um nichts.
It is like a musical with a musical
I've listened to 4 tracks on the album. I don't like the arrangements. I don't like the music and I don't like the voice. Incidentally, I don't like Jaques Brel either. The album reminds me of hypocritical American stage shows in Las Vegas. I don't need that. 1/5
Meh
Not a good weekend from the list generator. Nick Cave yesterday and Scott Walker today. Not into this at all. 1/5
Getting two Scott Walker albums out of the way in one day. This made me wonder how some albums get on this list.
I mean, it's bad. There's no other overriding thought for me right now, it's just bad. Maybe I'm not the target audience, but I can't imagine who that is.
This is worst than Nick the Lounge Singer. I would listen to Nick all day. Horrible, Welcome aboard the LOVE BOAT but not something exciting for everyone.
This sucks. I can smell the whiskey and fancy cigarettes through the speaker.
The first song started off OK. It was weird, it could be something you enjoy ironically or could be a song in a Quentin Tarantino film. The lyrics were funny. It went downhill from there. The music was like a deranged Disney ride through the 60's and eventually became unbearable. I couldn't finish. The Girls and The Dogs put a stop to that.
Nope. The lyrics on "Next" are...um...interesting. Had to look them up to make sure I heard them correctly. I swear on the wet head Of my first case of gonorrhea It's his ugly voice That I forever hear Next, next That voice that stinks of corpses Of whiskey and of mud It is the voice of nations That thick voice of blood Next, next
Is this a joke? Like a bad SNL sketch
Who is this guy? What is this album? Scott Walker created an album that's pathetically named and full of tortured baroque pop. I enjoy baroque pop, but not when the music is over the top. Walker's lyrics were meant to shock and grab attention, but they were just dumb and meaningless. What was the point of this album? Was it meant to be a caricature? I couldn't tell you.
What the fuck IS this "oh no Frank Sinatra overdosed on LSD and was let loose in Vegas" concept album? The presence of "Scott 2" on this project has left me very worried that what I can only assume is "Scott 1", or god forbid, "Scott 3" might be lingering on this list, somewhere, still waiting to get to me. This album just struck me. Unfortunately, what it mostly struck was my nerves.
Wow, that was terrible. It was unsettling in a way that almost made it interesting, would make good music for a haunted radio to be playing in a horror film (like other albums we've had). But to actually listen to full songs of this? No. Was like listening to the worst frank Sinatra tribute act while on drugs. Never again.
Smörigt och lite musikalaktigt. Hoppar denna
Rating: 2/10 This is shit
Great Scott! Or not, in this case. American trying to cover Brel and to sound like a chansonnier is doomed to fail.
Ok so I might be being too harsh with this one and I wanna lead with that. Nothing too enjoyable here. Just not my kinda thing. Big band idk whatever kinda club music from casablanca. It has a couple of weird things in random places that make it seem slightly tongue in cheek. I may be very dumb and I wouldn't blame u for thinking that but I didn't enjoy it. It's a one I think. Or maybe I should have given other stuff a one recently and I'm picking in this one but I'm rolling with it.
👎🏻
Not good, not much else to say about it
Sometimes I like this kind of music but the lyrics made it really difficult to like. Very outdated and misogynistic.
It’s so totally of it’s time awful.
This felt like a joke
Hard pass on this. Either I didn’t get it or doesn’t deserve to be understood.
At best boring, at worst irritating. The guy kinda icks me out, voice and lyrics. Also I’m not a fan of the string orchestral vibes which some of these songs had.
I usually find some redeeming qualities to most albums. And then there's this album
Nope.
What the hell even is this?
No way--life's too short for this.
What an odd album. I was over it by the end of track 1, but stubbornly listened to the rest of the album. I'm not sure why... maybe to just confuse the streaming music algorithm. There were some questionable tracks. Incredibly not my thing.
ruim
This is pompous, self important, overbearing, and just generally unenjoyable to listen to. I guess there’s some political commentary sprinkled throughout, but finding any sort of subtlety is like milking a concrete slab. I don’t understand why this album was included on this list, but that seems to be a reoccurring question for me. Hard pass.
Wtf? I have no interest in a guy crooning some ballads about gonorrhea and prostitutes. To the bargain bin with this. 2/10
Awful....probably the worst album I've ever listened to...and I tried, I really did
Good grief, another crooner album? No thank you, I’ll pass.
It starts beautifully, then it doesn't amount to much.
Weird weird album. It’s the sound of the oldies without the charm of the oldies mixed with the singer/songwriter pontification style that I’ve heard in other list albums from the 70s/80s. I hated it
I think I gave this a fair chance, I didn't listen to the last couple of songs but judging by how much I hated the rest of the songs on this album I really can't imagine they would've saved it for me. I just hated this album so much.
Surprised, as I didn't know what to expect. I don't mind crooner type music, but this felt off. There's an ick factor I can't place. The instrumentals were good, and he has a nice voice but I wouldn't listen again.
# Playlist track - Jackie # Notes - Repetitive. Very, very repetitive. - Dude's a decent singer, but definitely a one-trick pony. Spends most of the album over-singing and over-acting. - The whole thing is built like it's a grand, monumental even, act and it does show potential, but ends up falling flat on its face. No amount of orchestras and producers can save this from being super slow and boring.
I could swear that this was Annibale Giannarelli, the cheesy singer in a few spaghetti westerns, and made popular again by Quentin Tarantino. Anyway, this album and I did not connect in any way. Memories of the Lawrence Welk show minus the accordions.
Not really my vibe, but interesting!
Jackie
He had a nice voice but it’s a big no from me.
No. The most commercially successful song on this album was Jackie which was banned by the BBC. I guess this proves the "any publicity is good publicity". So the first song is banned for being offensive and the rest of the album is forgettable. Why are we listening to this?!
No
Man, I really hated this
New greep album shitty theatrical bs like this obsolete
So awful
Well I see now who Neil Hannon and Alex Kapranos have been listening to. I wanted to like this but it wore on me more the more I listened to it, and by the end I was thoroughly sick of it.
Not a fan of his voice
Same crap, different album.
The insipid lyrics and the pretentious delivery make this a horrible listen. Did we really need two Scott Walker albums?
This was like a combo of a poor man's Sinatra and Tom Jones. It was pretty awful.
He's got a powerful voice, but this all just came off as really cheesy.
Not for me 1/5
Not it
Weird album. More like a movie soundtrack. Didn't enjoy.
I listened to this a long time ago and forgot to rate it. I hated it the second time as much, if not more, than the first play.
I've never heard of this before. As the first song, Jackie, started playing, my eyes grew wide, and I mouthed "wow". Not sure what I expected but it certainly wasn't this. The song is filled with borderline inappropriate lyrics, and then halfway through I discover the singer was actually "Jackie". Didn't see that coming either! As much as I'd love to live-blog this album, I'll give the abridged version: - Psychedelic Cattle-driving song (the aforementioned "Jackie") - Weird Tom Jones - Vanilla Neil Diamond - Creepy James Bond Theme - Really creepy Spanish-themed soundtrack song ("Next", but could be called "Jackie Strikes Again") - Song to Murder Hookers To - Bad Trippy Beatles - Slightly Creepy Engelbert Humperdinck - Raunchy Rogers and Hammerstein - Sappy Burt Bacharach - If Ernest Hemingway was more misogynistic - Frank Sinatra sings a bad song. Glad I've heard this monstrosity, but will definitely never listen to this again.
Next.
Didn't enjoy it.
Not for me at all
Very William Shatner vibes, not my style
I totally hated this
Incel Musical Theater
Nope
I went into it thinking “no way it’s as bad as Scott 4,” which is technically correct… it’s even worse. It’s like show tunes without the show. Cheesy, self-indulgent nonsense.
Complete not my thing.
A pretty interesting style of performance, but not really my thing.
like showtunes, not my thing
Didn’t really care for it.
I will preface by saying I did not finish the album……. But what I did experience made me feel *insane* and I don’t even know what to do with the fact that it’s titled Scott 2
I came across this album a few weeks ago in an article on the most influential albums. I gave it a crack then and didn't see what all the fuss was about, and after giving it another shot, I still don't get it
Scott 2 is an incredibly fitting name for this album. Scott 2 good songs on it, and the rest is a snooze fest.
Scott Walker? More like Scott Walk me out back and shoot me
Are you fucking kidding with this? It's like a bad joke. HARD PASS.
This is really out there. Like Space Ghost in a velvet suit.
Such a weird album...especially for the time. Not really a fan however. 1.5/5
Trash, interesting and self indulgent
No not my music. I know he is influential but I don’t like it at all..
Wtf is this
Not a fan of his voice.
not my thing... always sounded like soundtrack music for 60's movies, and then I realized it was in fact music from soundtracks of the 60s
I can't believe I had to listen to another version of the awful panto dame spoken word song from last week. See said Alex Harvey 'Next' review for my feelings on this album except I did not enjoy it this time.
Not today buddy
aggressively dogshit
Next!
I'm not going to lie, after hearing the first song, I thought this was a satire crooning album a la Richard Cheese. And I would have enjoyed the hell out of it if that were the case. But no, he was being serious. I think. What a weird, tone deaf album.
Not my style
Scott number 2 is about right, this album was sh*t.
Is this a Martin Short character? He lost me at Gonorrhea. 0/5
I liked Black Sheep Boy. Everything after that was god awful.
Ummm. Show tune to open, shit to follow and then country, crooning, more shit. wtf? This was a #1 album in UK? I was 2, so may have missed the zeitgeist, but thank God I did.
So pompous, so melodramatic, so grandiose, so misogynistic, so homophobic. And that’s just the vocal…. This is a something only a creepy uncle could love when he’s taking time off from making women feel uncomfortable…
The album is named "Scott 2," which felt like a bad sign. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but this was so big and overblown that I just started laughing when they went ahead and doubled up his voice so he could echo himself (badly).
Wow, what an experience. I don’t know who this record is for. Every song is like its own terrible little musical.
Goooong!
This was like if Frank Sinatra attempted to be Tom Waits. It's real cheesy and dumb.
Nope, musical-sounding songs. Broadway perhaps?
Good Lord, why is this listed here? It's like having your drunk uncle grab the karaoke machine crooning for an hour of cringe lyrics.
Cat: Yikes
Really dated. Didn't care for a single song on the album.
thank god that's over, pointless noise buzzing in my ears for 40 minutes. half forgot that i was even listening. wouldn't even use as background music, whack. 1/5
Fuck this guy
Was t his a joke?
Not my music taste
This feels like an album that I'm far from the right demographic and time period necessary to come close to enjoy it. For the most part, I can't get past the voice even when the lyrics or instrumental are engaging. My favorite songs were his covers, making me wonder if I would like the originals more. My grandpa would probably skip this if it came on too. 2.5/10
This is something I'd expect to hear in a low budget western film another pop/country album about as good as the genre could probably be and that's just from the first song Jackie.
A frank sinatra saying punk lyrics. Is unfinishable to annoying.
To be honest, this makes me think of the Gaither Gospel Band, a 80s southern gospel vocal group. I don't like it. I do really like some of the orchestration, but it's a miss for me otherwise. If there was no singing, I'd say this was a really good instrumental album. But I'm getting the ick from this.
A man way too in love with his own voice (whose defining feature is a too-slow vibrato).
TRASH SEXIST TRASH
Wildly inconsistent and the lyrics were bad. It was not enjoyable. No need to listen or even consider. It is better than 1 but not a 2. I will round down.
Gross
It's a rare talent to have someone with an admittedly strong voice, backed by the classic '60s pop sound, to create music that's so bland. This record reminds me of someone like Barry Manilow - but for all of Manilow's corniness and cheesiness, I'd much rather listen to his music.
Boring. Also he said f*g.
Thats a large portion Oh frig no, definitely not one for me.
I get that Scott Walker is supposed to be this rogue crooner who earned the respect of the gritty auteurs, but everything about this felt dated to my ear. I will admit a bias - even Tony Bennett and Tom Jones do nothing for me, so he was fighting an uphill battle. For every song that had moments that drew my attention, songs like The Girls and the Dogs would come along to make me cringe. I just can't get on board
This sounds like an album of show tunes. Not for me.
This sucked. Smaltzy and boring. Could not finish it.
Frustratingly sexist, garbage vibrato, lounge-lizard, disco-adjacent trash vocals laid on top of Specter's lifeless brick turd production. I hated everything about this pretentious, cheesy, corpse of a record.
Horrible.
Mikä vitun musikaali tää on?
I don't really have patience for you scott walker.
Grew on me a little. The man definitely has a golden voice but I wasn’t feeling this one
Doesn't measure up to other crooners
I put the divine comedy on and really enjoyed it. This was shit.
Cheese deluxe. Gross. No thanks. Go away.
Yeah that was pretty awful.
WTF was that? Some weird blend of orchestral pop backed gross male behavior novelty songs… Jacques Brel covers? Stop. No thank you.
This is horrible. This is so much worse then anything i expected.
This was a chore to get through
Not a fan of this at all. Seems like super self-indulgent pretentious 60's horny music. I feel like I really didn't need to listen to this before I died, but here we are.
I hated this album and the lyrics upset me. Boooooo
I tried to listen to it...started scanning songs and lost interest quickly. Why is this a 1001 album? Is it "what not to do?" Is it because Phil Spector and his "wall of sound" epicness? Whatever - others have done this schtick better.
Not what I expected knowing his top played hit
What the hell? How was this ever popular?
This guy sucks. Every song is this grandeous sweeping gesture over acted horse water.
Delusional brassy ear trash
Thank god that's over. I hated nearly everything about this. Fuckin' awful. 1 star.
not for me
so boring....
Nothing about this album aged well.
12 pieces of music that sound absolutely beautiful, likely played by world-class musicians and some asshat comes along and drowns it all out by 'singing' making every song sound exactly the same; no thank you.
Vintage … not in a good way
utter shite
Cringe and gross. I see him being compared to Neil diamond but he's somehow worse which I did not think was possible. Next.
Load of bollocks
What the fuck even was this
Shut up Scott
Effen horrible. Sounds like a bad lounge singer with a bad case of the safe.
The Amorous Humphrey Plugg - There's a high-pitched noise throughout this song, it's irritating. Honestly, this style just doesn't jibe with me.
I hope Scott 4 and any other Scott Walker albums that might make this list are better, because this did absolutely nothing for me. Maybe the lyrics are good and that's why it's here?- I found Next a bit interesting but in general wasn't too focused because of the instrumentation and his terrible 60s croon pop voice. Ugh. Black Sheep was okayish, so I'll give this a 1.5.
Pretty bad. Just because it is from the U.K., does not mean it is a must-listen-to.
No, I couldn't get through it.
If you like movie sound tracks you might like this
People who like this concern me.
Not bad reminded me a little of neil diamond got a little bit repetative
This was too much in all the wrong ways. The wall of sound. The sinatra ripoff-homage the outragey-weird lyrics.
If you look at Scott’s lyrics out of context of the music, some of it actually okay poetry. But the aimless music makes it sounds like rambling drivel.
Really not me. Eye opening mind.
Nope, I hate that.
no
Overly theatrical voice, schmaltzy arrangements. At best, tracks are like mediocre Bond theme songs ('best of both worlds'). Unconvincing country pastiche ('black sheep boy'). While the music is cheesy and cliched, the ;lyrics are often strange and unfiltered ('next'). Weirdly honest, yet highly artificial. I did not enjoy this album.
i liked scott 4, but not this one. i did like the song Jackie though. 1/5 stars.
God this sounds so dated. It's weird, the lyrics are actually quite clever pointed, but music is so dull it just stops me from being interested.
Not my cup of tea.
Nope, not for me. And not for anybody else I hope ;)
Huh??!? I felt like I was at a modern opera, but then Scott would jump in with insane lyrics. He looked nothing like the deep, strong, tenor he would belt out. The only track I liked was “Next”. So no matter how many Scott’s you made 1-2-3-4 ... I would buy 0. If you have time to waste listen to his song “Jesse” for a true creep out.
What was that?!
The Amorous Humphrey Plugg - There's a high-pitched noise throughout this song, it's irritating. Honestly, this style just doesn't jibe with me.
This is terrible.
Ooof.......
Why, when Neil Diamond exists?
Nem consegui ouvir tudo de tão chato.
Not really ok.
A bit too much like Niel Diamond but not as catchy
