The xx
3/5
Ok I have been putting off listening to a bunch of albums bc im judging based on artist name/album cover and im just totally confused and wrong. I thought this was going to be super screamy and I could not be more wrong. I love indie pop but this is kindve underwhelming. Like its not bad and I kinda like it but it feels like the sort of thing thats only on the list bc the British guy that made the list is British

The Fall

Saw the album cover and artist name and assumed this would be stupid. I was stupid this is fire. Really liked a few of the songs and the rest were all good.

3/5
dont think Bob Dylan is my thing but the music is p good. 7/10
The Band
4/5
overall enjoyable to listen to and good album... none of the songs stood out to me tho. 8/10
Blondie
5/5
I like this one
Stevie Wonder
4/5
feel like most of the songs ran a bit long, there’s a few I really liked tho
Public Enemy
3/5
Don’t think I’d ever listen to the whole thing, feel like this could be a fire movie soundtrack or sum but I could not listen to the whole album in a sitting it was too much
Joni Mitchell
3/5
bummed its not on Spotify. how poetic that we just watched love actually and the lady got this album from her adultry committing piece of shit husband and now we are listening to it. ily Joni
edited: ok I didn't like this album that much I think Joni Mitchell is cool and I like her music but the cadence doesn't really work for me.
Thin Lizzy
2/5
Feel like it wasn’t bad music but I didn’t like listening to it. The guitar and drum solos are sick but they bore me. Don’t think the listening experience of the album as an album is very good :/
Red Hot Chili Peppers
3/5
Would not listen to any of the songs on their own but thought the album as a whole from start to finish was pretty good. Feel like this is good passive music to have in the background. 7/10
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
4/5
Hated the screamy part but liked everything else.. got better towards the end of the album, would not be upset if the album was longer w more of the less screamy vibes 7/10
Sly & The Family Stone
2/5
Thought the first song was the best, didn’t love that one n didn’t love the rest of the album either. 4/10
Beastie Boys
4/5
Album was alright.. I like it but don’t know if I’d listen much on my own
Liz Phair
2/5
strange bc I like the vibe of the album and it's not painful to listen to, I just dont think any of the songs are good -- wouldn't listen to any of em again. 5/10
The Police
4/5
Wasn’t very awake when I listened but a few of the songs were super good rest were fine 8/10
Sheryl Crow
3/5
Expected to like this more… the songs were kind of repetitive and too long and just not enough singing to fill the song. I feel like the instrumental for no one said it would be easy sounds like something I would like but the song is just boring and not flowy. Feel like I just don’t like her style of song and she has some collabs I like better than the stuff on her albums
Garbage
4/5
So not garbage !! I liked this a lot - feel like the songs worked together well n were also pretty varied - good listening experience, solid 9/10
Soul II Soul
3/5
Conflicted ab how to rate this bc I tried listening this morning when I was driving and it wasnt stimulating enough of noise so I stopped listening and thought I wasn’t gonna listen to the album but then later I played it when I was looking at Christmas lights w my friend and it was good background music and was able to talk over it comfortably. So like I think it’s 8/10 for background music but like 4/10 for listening experience. Thought the instrumental stuff was so boring and there were a few songs I didnt love even as background music… gonna avg to a 6/10 but don’t think numbers do a good job describing how I feel ab this album
Stereolab
3/5
Emperor tomato ketchup.. what a goofy name. Did not enjoy the first song so I was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the album. The electric techno vibe is not really my thing and I have too unrefined of an attention span for the amount of instrumentals/non singing bits present so don’t think I’d listen again… but I actually liked most of it, the French was fun I think I liked it better than the English parts 7/10 rounded down bc I don’t think I’d listen to any of the songs just cause
Various Artists
5/5
I mean it’s a Christmas album on Christmas.. there’s better and there’s worse 9/10
Peter Gabriel
4/5
I like some of the songs a lot, other were eh, I think all of the songs ran a bit long for my taste but overall good 8/10
George Harrison
5/5
George Harrison is now one of my fav artists. I dont think I'll listen to the whole album again front to back again but theres alot of songs on here that I really love. so good.
Buffalo Springfield
4/5
Rating things is such a mindfuck… 7/10 like the vibes, would listen to some of the songs again
The Mamas & The Papas
4/5
Overall enjoyable, there’s a few songs I’ll def listen to again 8/10
Hookworms
3/5
Not a huge fan but don’t think the music is bad per se, just not something I see myself listening to — im not big on the whole techno electric thing but I think it’s executed well enough 5.5/10
The Modern Lovers
3/5
I feel like w a lot of these I don’t actively dislike them but I just would never choose to listen to them… this to me was like someone got really into karaoke and popped off a little bit. I think there’s a bit of a disconnect between the music n the singing and the dudes voice is not super compelling 5/10
R.E.M.
4/5
Had a 9/10 listening experience bc I was sat down w an absolutely gorgeous view of a lake w a bunch of cows infront of me and I did absolutely nothing else so I felt very in tune w nature. -1 because my brother and dad slightly disturbed me. Idk if any of yall seen a cow get up from sleeping and do a lil stretch but it’s SUPER cute. Esp baby cows. Kinda crazy how long they are able to sit still and stand still. Feel like i don’t see cows not eating very often so it was cool to see them chilling.
Ravi Shankar
3/5
Grew up listening to lots of classical indian music and hear this guys name all the time n he lived in San Diego before he died so aunties would also talk ab seeing him live. He’s a super adulterous man super funny how the aunties never feel the need to talk ab that 😒. But yeah I just don’t love sitar on his own and enjoy traditional music best when it’s accompanied by dance bc I really enjoy watching barthanatyam. Also lack of lyrics made it a bit boring. I also don’t know how I feel ab the fact that this guys main goal(I think )was to get ppl who aren’t Indian to be educated ab our music. 6.5/10
Ella Fitzgerald
5/5
Absolute gas, 9.9/10 -.1 bc I don’t love the beedoodumdadee stuff in the first song but that’s literally the only thing I have to say
1/5
Pretty damn horrendous but I got through it which is better than I was expecting and deserves some credit ig. I’m just thinking ab how someone definitely produced this and listened and okayed it which is pretty bold and pretentious. As far as music goes this is p bad but I guess I’d still call it music. 2.5/10
Beastie Boys
4/5
Liked this one better than the last beastie boys album. Not 100% my thing but still good 7.9/10
Serge Gainsbourg
1/5
I have lots of thoughts… First song felt like gossip girl vibes w the talking over the instrumentals being p sparse, rest of the album kinda felt like a movie soundtrack. Idk how I’d rate if I read the Wikipedia after I listened bc I really liked the instrumentals, but the French man talking is very not sexy to me… and him repeatedly saying melody is so gross and also not musically entertaining either !! also the sex noises in en melody were very disturbing! Apparently the album cover is a photo of his partner who is pregnant and 18 yrs younger than him.. and they got together while she was 22 and married to someone else which is interesting ig. And she’s the one featured in some of the songs. I like the instrumentals but read way too much Wikipedia ab this to not think it’s super fucked up and perverted and be icked out by the voices. Not gonna rate out of 10 bc idk what I would even put
The The
4/5
English post punk is super bizzare to me but I fw this 8/10
Paul Simon
5/5
Love the energy, not flawless but enjoyed the whole thing 9/10
Keith Jarrett
3/5
Good background music fs but dont think it was particularly compelling… not sure why its the best selling piano album 7/10 round down
Rahul Dev Burman
4/5
This is not the bharatanatyam this is the cha cha cha 😂 that line made me chuckle. There’s something about old timey Indian music that makes me so warm and fuzzy inside.. I didn’t grow up watching Bollywood movies, but this sound in general is very nostalgic for me so im def biased. I feel like this album was def chosen cause there are white people in the movie and it was also released in English, not sure if that’s bad or good bc it’s def more globally present bc of that. There’s def Bollywood songs I like more than any of the songs on this album, but I’ve never listened to their albums so don’t know if there’s anything I think would be better suited for the list.. I think the music is good enough, I liked a few songs but there were also a few boring ones. Liked some of the trumpet bits but overall I think the parts w/ more western influence and English I liked less. 7.5/10
Iggy Pop
3/5
Overall I found this album unexciting, can’t really point out anything horrible or amazing but didn’t love the overall energy 5.5/10
Sufjan Stevens
5/5
totally not what I was expecting... haven't really listened to sufjan Stevens but I have a friend whose obsessed and I thought I was gonna be sobbing through the whole thing but it wasn't too depressing. I really liked the music and the variety in instruments and I felt like the whole album was curated very nicely. big fan 9/10
Charles Mingus
3/5
It was pretty funky and I could feel the story but I think this would work a lot better paired w a visual art like film or dance or sum. I didn’t love it as just background music bc I don’t love the sound of the trombone(?) sometimes but it was pretty solid overall. Also realizing how much I love pacific time, I miss rating things at nine and being asleep at 9:15. 6/10
Supertramp
5/5
Love! 9/10
Sister Sledge
3/5
Pretty good but did not enjoy how repetitive it was 7.5/10
The Stranglers
4/5
Mostly fine, haven’t been too locked in while listening 7/10
Astor Piazzolla
5/5
As far as instrumentals go, I like the noises in this one a lot. It was really fun! Like imo this should be a 4 but the fact that I think an instrumental should be a 4 makes it a 5 I think. 9/10
Fun Lovin' Criminals
3/5
Not super compelling but didn’t completely miss the mark. It was okay but don’t think I’d listen again 6/10
Billy Joel
5/5
Ugh I fucking love this album it just makes me feel so warm and happy inside when I hear it. Billy Joel is amazing and idk this just exudes positivity 9.5/10
Tina Turner
4/5
I liked this! I can’t tell if I was awake for the middle part of the album or not but either way my subconscious has heard it. the Spotify reccomended songs that played after the album were so good so I think that might impact my rating 8/10
Peter Gabriel
3/5
So is prolly one of my more fav albums from this so was kinda bummed that I didn’t like this as much. 6/10
Aerosmith
3/5
feel like a bunch of the recent albums have felt like this to me; there's nothing bad ab it but I also would rather be listening to something else and it doesn't do anything great. fine for background music because id be happy to talk over this, not that that's a negative thing but not sure if thi 5.5/10
Everything But The Girl
5/5
reading the wikipedia and its talking ab how the lyrics are more like short stories than pop songs w/ choruses... not super catchy bc of that but I very much enjoy the mellow energy and think the singing and music flows nicely, feel like listening again would make me like it more? I think this makes for excellent background music but in the sense that I want to listen to this as I am living... like I think it has much more redeeming qualities than the other albums I've thought of as background music (like the others feel like background music bc they aren't interesting enough to be listening music), it feels intentionally curated or sum, like a nice dinner to this sounds so classy chic, and as Kats would say, very much romantic. Also the perfect amount of stimulation for me to do homework while listening. also also, lydllwild is a place a bit north of San Diego and its mayor is a dog (https://www.mayormax.com/index.htm -- I've met him and Miley's met him too!) super awesome place for some hiking and just hanging out, ik this is called Idlewild but the association is there and brings more good energy.
edited: this is one of my favorite albums ever I love it so much its amazing I have the entire album in my liked songs.
Scott Walker
3/5
dated imo, can't see myself listening again but not terrible 5/10
Fugazi
3/5
Feel like it was a very mid rock album and rock is not my preferred type of music so it was kind of underwhelming 5/10
Led Zeppelin
4/5
pretty good 7.5/10
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
It was fine 5.5/10
Pavement
4/5
Ok I haven’t listened to the entire album but I just finished the Elliott smith album and a song from this was the auto play after and I liked that song a lot so I’m prematurely giving it a review (9/10) before listening to more. ok went back and I think some of it is very overwhelming and too much noise for me but I really like some of it so staying overall positive 8.5/10
Sarah Vaughan
4/5
I think the music sounded pretty good but it’s not my vibe and just isn’t what I was in the mood to listen to. Don’t think I’d listen to this by choice not bc it’s bad but I’d just rather be listening to something else 7/10
The Beach Boys
3/5
Can’t pinpoint but something ab this was pretty damn annoying to me… 5/10
Lou Reed
4/5
Was p good, don’t think I’ll revisit much tho 7.5/10
Tortoise
2/5
Pretty funky, it’s very difficult for me to stay engaged when there are no words and I don’t think the instrumentals were all that 4/10
Common
3/5
Not the type of music I usually listen to and I’m still not crazy ab it but this was pretty decent. 7/10 round down
Dexys Midnight Runners
4/5
Was p fun n funky I enjoyed it, don’t know how many of the songs I’ll listen to again 7/10
Nitin Sawhney
1/5
Shits ass 3/10
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
5/5
Short n sweet, sound is super fun, holds up great for an album so old 9/10
The Black Keys
2/5
the album started off pretty damn bad like it just was not fun to listen to the high pitch voice like idk why he was trying to be so quirky or whatever. I feel like its just almost fine but there's annoying noises n sounds in there that lowk just piss me off. it definitely gets a bit better later in the album but can't get over the beginning. 5/10 round down
Marvin Gaye
4/5
Good energy 8/10
Björk
3/5
Tbh didn’t feel super strongly about this which is kinda disappointing, I definitely do not appreciate the creative choices being made but doesn’t extemely hit or miss 5/10
David Bowie
4/5
Pretty good. I fell asleep the first time I listened so had to re listen. 8/10
Finley Quaye
3/5
Listening on the bus is impossible because I cannot stay awake for more than 2 songs, might impact how I feel ab the album… feel like it’s not bad but don’t know if I’d listen again 5/10
LCD Soundsystem
5/5
Songs were too long imo and I don’t really like the electronic-y sound or atleast how it sounds in this album. Think it got better towards the end tho.
edited: my music taste has changed since I started this. I enjoy the electronicy sound alot and I thinks its done exceptionally well on this album. really great.
Arcade Fire
4/5
trying to catch up on the albums I missed and I just listened to a 70s album that sounded like every other rock album ever and was boring. ik this is like 30+ years later and maybe its time maybe something else but this feels elevated compared to a lot of the other rock albums on this list. there's some monotony but its monotonous good if that makes sense... 8.4/10
Can
1/5
Pretentious and unbearable 2/10
SAULT
3/5
Did not enjoy listening to this… feel like the idea and execution were fine, good even but I just didn’t wanna be hearing this, feel like this album is not what I want to hear if I’m listening to music
Like 3/10 enjoyment 8/10 quality ig overall 5/10
The Who
3/5
everything sounded the same to me… fine not bad but unexciting 6/10
ZZ Top

Weather Report
2/5
Booooring 4.5/10
Stan Getz
4/5
such an easy listen, feel like this is my ideal restaurant etc music, love but can't see myself listening to this w/ headphones in just cause... like 10/10 for background but 7/10 listening experience rn.. so 8.5/10
Songhoy Blues
4/5
some of the words sounded kinda Indian to me, thought it was pretty good but can't see myself listening again 7/10
George Jones
5/5
I am so happy listening to this !! I'm just hyped to have a country album but also I really like this and think its great and an excellent pick for the list. like this is one of those albums where I listen and I so so get it when people are like oh yeah the modern day trashy pop country is so booty, I mean I don't even think the genres are that comparable at this point, like I enjoy a song about beer/whiskey, mamas, n trucks as much as the next gal, but the lack of beer/whiskey, mamas n trucks is noted and appreciated, anyways 9.5/10
A Tribe Called Quest
3/5
I think this is good music n respect it as an album but didn’t enjoy very much… didn’t dislike it but wouldn’t listen again
Elton John
4/5
Bennie and the Jets has gotta be the most delightful song ever. @kailey watching 27dresses w you and then sobbing will forever be a core memory and this song just lives in my soul. Rest of the album is also very good. Yesterday was just a good day for an Elton John album 8.5/10
Janis Joplin
3/5
“Oh she’s just shouting”-my mom. Like yeah I agree but it sounds good. I liked this for driving, don’t think I’d like it otherwise. Oklahoma is so gorgeous could make anything(most things) sound a little bit good, I think this had a baseline good so was p decent. rating based on how I think I’d feel while not driving. Also, ALL CAUGHT UP!!!
Cocteau Twins
5/5
so. fucking. good.
Elis Regina
4/5
This was a solid album imo. Nothing crazy ab it but it sounded good. Prolly wouldn’t turn it off but also idk if I’d choose to put it on bc I think there’s other albums that appeal to me more 7/10 ca->pa rating #5
Beatles
5/5
dont have much to say
The Triffids
4/5
2nd album of day 2, this was really great road trip music. I think I’d get bored of it regularly but it was very nice to drive to. Took us from petrified forest national park in Arizona to a bit west of albequrque. capa#12
The Stone Roses
5/5
Hadn’t heard of this but it was SO good!! 9/10
Kraftwerk
2/5
There’s some good qualities here that are completely overpowered by the other moments that are utter rubbish. Can’t stand this 3/10
Arcade Fire
4/5
I started listening to this at 10something because I needed something to keep me awake until midnight because I haven't done my homework. It kept me awake but I ended up on Facebook. who even uses Facebook. the music was p good tho. 8/10
Pink Floyd
3/5
Not bad for on the road. However my mom kept thinking things were wrong w the car bc of the noises in the music.
Dennis Wilson
2/5
Ugh this was so long. Any redeeming qualities were unredeemed at like 50 minutes. Also was not matching the Texas vibe. Maybe I should start tomorrrow w some country.
The Kinks
3/5
this was fine but not too exciting to me, 6.5/10
Beyoncé
3/5
Last album of day 1 and first album of day 2. I like a few Beyoncé songs(none of them r on this album) but I feel like she has a very big pop culture presence and ppl are like queen bey can do no wrong and I don’t really get where that comes from. This album was not really my thing, I think my fav parts were the other artists that were featured. I don’t really like the thing she does w her voice that’s not very descriptive but yeah. 5/10 capa#11
Air
5/5
Are you kidding me!! This made me grumpy at all the other shitty electronica albums we listen to, this is how it should be done, the sounds are so nice! Capa#9
Mariah Carey
2/5
I think I didn’t like this for the same reason I don’t like Ariana grande’s music. Clearly Mariah Carey has a hell of a voice but I feel like it was just kinda whispy singing that didn’t really project and relied more on her voice than having good music. Sometimes girly pop is just doing too much and I didn’t appreciate her for it. Not terrible but just wasn’t my thing. ca->pa rating#4
Rush
3/5
Another car listen . This was a bit boring to me, some songs were fine but tbh didn’t fully get the essence bc I was absorbing the Texas.
The Libertines
3/5
Felt pretty standard 7/10
k.d. lang
5/5
Was exactly what I wanted to be hearing yesterday morning 9/10
The Isley Brothers
4/5
I was hungry when I listened to this and traffic was bad but it was good. 8/10 capa#10
The Byrds
3/5
Maybe it’s cause I’ve not been listening to the recent albums but idk how to differentiate between 4s n 5s and 3s n 4s.. anyways 6.5/10
Echo And The Bunnymen
4/5
I like this, nothing crazy not sure if I’d listen all the time but was good the first time around 7.5/10
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
I think this was fine. Didn’t really pay much attention to this playing but in a good way 7/10 capa#8
Beach House
5/5
Yeah I loved this 9/10
The Flaming Lips
3/5
I don’t think my mom liked this bc she asked to listen to the news like 1 song after the Radiohead album ended, I didn’t like the screamy song at all. Most of this was fine tho, some songs I’d give like a 7.5 or 8/10. Overall I think the flaming lips were pretty adventurous w the sounds they tried and not all of them sounded amazing and the ones that sounded good weren’t great. Overall mid ca->pa rating #3
Justin Timberlake
2/5
As a celebrity I really just cannot stand Justin Timberlake… the whole Janet Jackson thing, that song from the trolls movie, his face, etc… I haven’t listened to a bunch of his music and like I feel like this album isn’t that good. Seems like he’s got a lot of ideas and the execution is not very admirable. Think my hate of jt might be influencing my rating, 3.5/10 side note, that one movie w him and mila kunis is pretty good but that’s despite his presence not bc of it 🤷♀️
Elliott Smith
5/5
I listen to a lot of the songs on this album. really good.
The White Stripes
3/5
I did not enjoy listening to this. it wasn't bad but like I felt the same ab this as silence. like I can brush my teeth and put my hair up and walk down the stairs and make a cream cheese and bread sandwich(pathetic breakfast but tbh it tastes not so bad and food is food) in silence and it'd be fine but instead I listened to this album while doing all that and its was fine. didn't add anything to my life, and ig not adding anything kind of a negative bc I could listen to something else that would be making my mundane morning taste more enjoyable. I guess 5/10
The Yardbirds
3/5
Feels kind of like sum you’d hear in a movie or tv show in a battle of bands sort thing, nothing bad but also not what I’d chose to listen to 6.5/10
Buck Owens
4/5
super fun I like this, feels a bit old/dated tho and I don’t love the variety of old it feels but overall good 7.5/10
Eminem
2/5
I appreciate that there’s prolly a ton of thought etc but rap is very hit or miss for me and this was def a miss.. and it was an hour so didn’t enjoy much 4/10
Big Star
3/5
I listened to this on the bus so I was very eepy. I liked a few of the songs more than others, which is normal for most albums ig, so nothing special but overall fine, 6.5/10
Goldie
1/5
Hot ass. Maybe this is cheating but I skipped half the songs like halfway through.my mom asked for the news again. Ca->pa rating #7
Metallica

Pretty solid, I was highkey grinding my philosophy essay when I was listening to this and I put this at way higher volume than I usually listen to music and it did a good job of tuning out everything else. Feel like it was the perfect type/amount of noise. I’d prolly not enjoy it when listening regularly, who knew that metal would be good homework music for me. Homework music: 10/10, usual listening opinion: like a 6.5/10
The Kinks
4/5
Feel like it says good things ab an album if it’s long ish and I enjoy the whole thing, pretty solid 8/10
Simple Minds
4/5
I really liked this, I feel like the whole thing was good, bordering on a 5 but I don't see myself being like obsessed w/ this or any song in particular, I just feel like every song was an enjoyable listen so overall very good as an album, 8/10
The Streets
5/5
I reckon a whole lotta buggers think this album’s rubbish but I say that’s poppycock!! This was so intriguing I was engaged the whole time. Would not listen again but the experience was magical. I was lowk in an altered state of mind when listening tho. The English accent is the only reason this album worked, it’s very stupid tho. Cheerio bruvs! 12/10
CHIC
4/5
Love this, kind of.. its very good but a bit too repetitive for me, overall enjoyed 7/10
Dire Straits
4/5
Was the first album of the day. I am road tripping to Pittsburgh w my mommy(I drove all 9 hours) so I didn’t get to write an immediate review because #bothhandsonthewheel but I liked this. Have had Romeo and Juliet on repeat since it was in the music league and none of the songs on this album were that good but I still thought the album overall is good. For all the albums I listened to today, I think being on the road made them better bc any gaps in interesting music I just paid attention to the scenery instead. Ca->pa review #1
R.E.M.
4/5
I get what u guys r saying ab the good album streak! I liked this, just an easy good listen 8/10
The Clash
4/5
This was pretty long and I have a short attention span so the fact that I wasn't bored I think is a very good sign. I love love love the fact that I liked the second half of the album better bc I feel like that rarely happens, I dont really see myself going back any of the songs a ton but overall p good; 8/10
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
4/5
felt very standard for an album on this list, was pretty good but not super duper exciting or anything. 7.5/10
MGMT
5/5
I think this is the first album we’ve gotten that I’ve listened to in it’s entirety before having it as the album for the day.. I like some of the songs a lot, the most r just fine, based on the songs I like more and ig just in agreement of spot on this list 9/10
Joy Division
4/5
I liked the first song best I think but all of em were pretty good, overall very solid imo 8.5/10
Jethro Tull
5/5
Oh baby. The hour and five minutes during which I listened to this album were very memorable. My mom decided to drive so I was back seat enjoying the ride listening to this then my phone died and then I was like ok if I’m gonna sit up front to charge I’ll just drive then jethro tull cooked a bit too hard bc I was cruising at a hundo and then I saw a cop slowed down but not enough and got pulled over for speeding and my license expired so I just have a printed piece of paper for the extension and also since the car is a brand new used car they hadn’t mailed all the paperwork yet so didn’t have registration for the officer🤪. I ugly cried to the officer and we had to call my dad for proof of purchase and he is furious w me and Darlington car is in jeopardy and now for the rest of my life I have to drive like an ancient old lady with a massive fucking barbed stick up her ass so I don’t go broke from paying my insurance and everyone will hate me for driving so pathetical and lawful. #makingcruisecontrolmybitch Anways ab the album I actually really liked it and it’s so snazzy and quirky 9/10
Fleetwood Mac
4/5
feel like its hard not to compare this to Fleetwood Mac's other stuff (mostly rumours ig), its def good but not as compelling as the stuff ik better imo. Also I listened to this very early on the morning in the bus so not sure how much I was processing so I dont think my review has the best perspective, 7.5/10
Tim Buckley
2/5
I listened to this on the plane from Pittsburgh to home. I downloaded the album and forgot to rate it after my flight. I’m clearing out my downloads rn so that’s why i remembered to rate it. my specific thoughts but the overall vibe was meh. I don’t feel like listening to it again to give a more accurate rating and I think that says enough to rate it
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Same deal as Tim Buckley. This was fine, very jazzy but the instrumentals r wearing on me.
Pink Floyd
5/5
imo this is just good music, I think its great to listen to, not sure if its what I would listen to in my day to day but its just done well I think, 9/10
Björk
2/5
I feel similarly ab bjork and Joni Mitchell I think. Like I want to get it but I don’t. Ik I gave the Joni Mitchell album a 5 but actually I don’t listen to any of her music and it just makes me think. This album isn’t all bad but it’s just wierd and just the things going on aren’t for me. Idk what gaze/ears bjork is appealing to but it’s not mine. 4.5/10
Eels
3/5
Feel like this was trying very hard to be quirky, wasn’t terrible but it just felt a bit off, 6/10
Peter Gabriel
4/5
The album cover guy looks like the actor who plays Neville longbottom… anyways this guy knows how to make music, I don’t think this album is my fav thing ever and I don’t know that I’d relisten to a ton of this but I think it’s done well and sounds good, solid 8/10
3/5
not the genre I was in the mood for n there wasn’t anything super exciting ab it 6/10
Talking Heads
4/5
I listen to songs on this less than I do the songs on the other talking heads albums we've had. still good.
Tracy Chapman
4/5
I liked this, obviously fast car is very good but the rest is also very solid imo!! 8/10
The Byrds
3/5
This was fine nothing too exciting 6.5/10
Dagmar Krause
2/5
lol 4/10
The Cars
3/5
sooo booring this was extremely mid, not bad but im unexcited unintirgued. album cover is so cunty n the album itself just does not do it justice 6/10
Sex Pistols
2/5
This was a bit noisy for me. I don’t know what constitutes good noisy music but I don’t think this was it. It wasn’t painful to listen to but wasn’t my thing. 5/10
Germs
4/5
this is the type of music I need to listen to when I study... bc if its anything else I can't focus on my work. for studying to 8/10, would I listen to this otherwise, absolutely not but sticking w/ 8/10
Lupe Fiasco
4/5
I think I liked it more as I listened longer, except for the outro was boring and too long. Pretty solid 7.5/10
Beck
3/5
Felt pretty indifferent towards this 6/10
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
I can't think of a situation in which I would enjoy listening to this, it doesn't sound bad but is just dull and doesn't really appeal to me. 5/10
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
Springsteen is iconic n this album is good, the last song was a bit long n dramatic 8/10
Iron Maiden
4/5
I listened to this in the shower and lowk I didn’t hate it bc I think metal works really well for me as white noise. Even so I think this is p solid as far as metal goes. 7/10
Count Basie & His Orchestra
3/5
Think this I liked this less than I should have bc I was incredibly hangry while this was playing. The sound of the music was good, sound of my stomach growling-not so good. Enjoyed it like a 6/10
Jah Wobble's Invaders Of The Heart
2/5
Another album I listened to on the plane. I was glad I listened to this on the plane bc I was to tired to switch to other music bc this was very mid imo 4.5/10
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
feel like evaluating this as artwork, its really good, not what id usually listen to tho 8/10
Iron Maiden
3/5
A bit loud but not bad 6/10
Dolly Parton
4/5
Dolly Partons got some music I like a lot so I thought I was gonna love this but I didn't 🤷♀️, still good just not super amazing 7/10
Megadeth
2/5
Wasn’t in the mood for this. Too noisy 4/10
Jean-Michel Jarre
3/5
I dont get it. Makes a lot of sense that it’s by a French dude. It sounds cool I guess, think I’d really like this as the soundtrack for a movie. 7/10
Adele
3/5
listening to the albums on this list has made me like Adele less. I think she has an incredible voice but her songs are pretty bland to me. some songs are still nostalgic and I like them.
David Bowie
4/5
Did NOT enjoy the moss garden and neukoln bullshit, other than that pretty good. For some reason Bowies stuff isn’t super exciting to me but it’s still good. 7/10
Nick Drake
4/5
listened to this while cooking and was v good, has a nice sound to it. 8/10
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
Felt p indifferent to this, 6/10
Nas
4/5
Was very good! Just not the type of music I usually listen to 8/10
Janelle Monáe
4/5
I’ve been meaning to listen to Janelle Monaes music. Saw her on a Instagram reel ab good met gala looks n feel like ik of her more from her acting but im glad i listened to this. The album was a bit long but i feel like it did a good job of having a cohesive variety in its sound and it sounded good. 8/10
Nico
2/5
Something about this makes it not speak to me. It’s very boring, maybe something ab the lack of excitingness of the instrumentals but also there’s not much going on w her voice, like it’s simple but it’s not good enough to be simple. But also I am disgustingly congested and my hearing is shot so maybe I’m missing something. There was that one song with noises I really just didn’t like. On a more positive note I’m back home and very excited to rate things at a reasonable hour of the night! 4.5/10
Sam Cooke
3/5
Maybe I would feel better ab this if it wasn’t a live album. I think live albums have a time n place and this list is not the place bc usually I only listen to/appreciate live versions if I already love & am familiar w the song. 6/10
Pere Ubu
2/5
I really did not like Thriller! Probably because I am such an MJ fan and you can’t be using a good name for bad music. The rest of the album wasn’t really great either. However being on the road drowned out some of the noise so I don’t think It was quite as bad as it should have been , 5/10 ca->pa rating #6
Kid Rock
1/5
When Lucas sent the thing in the slack I was not sure if this was gonna be one of those things where u have to have refined taste to hate it, clearly not! This is hot ass! Total rubbish. Had to roll up the windows in the car at intersections while this was playing bc having someone I know(or don’t know for that matter) pulling up next to me and hearing this coming from my vehicle is my personal hell. The ego on this guy, my goodness. Anyone who doesn’t have a problem w his music should take a look at the public image and Controversies section of his Wikipedia. apparently he’s a loud n proud republican & gun nut. Public display of the confederate flag?! Are you kidding me. Racist, misogynist, homophobe, transphobe AND makes bad music, this guy is not my cup of tea nor should he be anyone else’s.
Tears For Fears
3/5
I’m disappointed. IMO head over heels is byfar the best song on this album, everybody wants to rule the world is fine, and the rest are all forgettable and not really that fun to listen to. The first two songs are wayy too damn long and so is the last song. 6.5/10 (the math in my head: 4/10 + .75 everybody wants to rule the world + 1.75 head over heels)
Orbital
2/5
“Can you turn that stupid music off”-my brother. Usually he’s way out of line but today I think I agree w him. Not really into the electronic techno thing they’ve got going on. Not offensive but most definitely not exciting. I think my reviews have been unduly critical lately and I blame that on my mother so apologies to everyone on her behalf. 4/10
The Everly Brothers
4/5
Thought this was p good for how old it is. the voices are a bit annoying kind of and some of the songs kinda just remind me of interacting w/ a girl who is super whiny and thinks everyone else is the problem not her. But overall enjoyed the energy I think 7/10
Joanna Newsom
2/5
Too long. Not on Spotify which is kind of inconvenient. Saw some reviews ab this feeling bjork-y. I agree I guess. Like they don’t sound the exact same obviously but if we are drawing parallels that’s a good parallel to draw. Anyhoo i don’t enjoy bjork and didn’t enjoy this. 4.5/10
DJ Shadow
3/5
This was aight. Lyrics r usually a nice touch and this wasn’t super lyric heavy. Don’t know that words would change my rating tho. 6/10
Jungle Brothers
2/5
To contextualize my pessimism: i am writing this rn and it is 10:54(past my bedtime) and I am sat on the floor of my garage next to my dog waiting for the family friends we had over for dinner to leave. No hate to them but I’m tired and wanna sleep. This album did nothing to help my mood. So mid. It’s been too long since I’ve given an album a 5. I want to be fired up and excited and got going. This didn’t do anything for me and I hope the next albums are better. Again there was nothing wrong w it but it was just fine 5/10
808 State
3/5
I think rn it would take a groundbreaking and revolutionary instrumental-esque album for me to rate it higher than a 3. This was fine. I fw it but like it didn’t get me excited. Ik there were some lyrics but not enough.
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
I don’t get it. Why would u make an album so long. Disc 2 is an easy 5, disc 1 felt like so long ago I don’t even know, maybe like a 3. It’s hard to pay attention to what I like when there’s so much it kinda blends together. But like some of this was really good. 1979, SO GOOD. I liked a lot of the stuff that wasn’t super noise heavy. I really wish there was just an album that had the good songs from this. I guess that’s what playlists are for. makes me appreciate mixtapes. Would prolly melt if someone ever made me a mixtape. I’m ab to sleep so the last song being all good night is super cute. 8.5/10
LL Cool J
2/5
are you kidding me. milk and cereal was ASS. for starters im not strongly oppionated ab this but I feel like cereal and milk is the more generally accepted order, but like are you kidding me I could not take this seriously after that song. I listened to half of this then a John Denver album and the second half of this which was really not exciting to me.
UB40
3/5
I think this could be good for passive listening as background music. Unfortunately I don’t have much going on in my life rn so it’s hard to have something be the background when there’s no foreground. I think the album overall has a nice sound and good vibes, but wasn’t extremely compelling to me. Its hard for me to evaluate how I’d feel ab something as passive music bc imo “good” background music is something that you can listen to while doing something else but like I’m constantly thinking wow that’s song is so good. I felt that way ab the Getz/gilberto album. I don’t know that it’s what I would just have playing when I’m on a walk/drive but any activity of substance and that is just the most gorgeous noise to live life to. Also imo very few songs have any business being longer than 5 minutes and the Medusa song def was longer than i wanted it to be. Basically i like the energy but idk how to rate this. 6/10
David Bowie
3/5
I enjoyed this more than some of the other Bowie albums I think. I’m still not a huge fan of his music, appreciate it but not totally my thing and I don’t know why. 7/10
Radiohead
5/5
10/10 An incredible album. I really like pretty much every song on here.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
A very standard good
Butthole Surfers
1/5
🤢 🤮
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
4/5
Listened 2 days ago but forgot to rate, I think I liked it, was great on the road
Tom Waits
2/5
Didn’t like this :/
The Shamen
2/5
Hear this and then see the Wikipedia being like thus was notable in the clubbing scene and then I get why ppl who fuck it up in the club also fuck up acid bc I’d have to be tripping too to enjoy this. 3/10
The Afghan Whigs
4/5
enjoyed this! it was quite a fun listen, feel like I was engaged and didn't wanna skip anything which is more than I can say for most albums. I dont know that id listen to any of these songs often but as an overall album pretty damn good. 8/10
Beatles
4/5
I prolly listened to this like 4 times through but was still moving out of Darlington so I was only half inside so the 4th listen was the only one that counted. Obviously was good. Yellow submarine is nostalgic, a bunch of the other songs r just good. The ones w Indian influence kinda threw me off. Idk if I like the sitar(or whatever instrument that is) and idk how I feel ab how that mixed w the music. 8/10? 8.5/10… idk
Goldfrapp
3/5
I usually like this kind of music but it was a bit too boring for me. Wouldn't mind this in the background I dont think, but like I think she could be doing just a bit more and id enjoy it. 6.5/10
Basement Jaxx
2/5
I listened to the start of this album like 4 times before I finally listened to the whole thing. It wasn't bad, just a bit too experimental and noisy for me. I dont like listening to staticy things. not offensive but my boat was not floated
Eminem
1/5
I cheated w this album. I listened to Kim(like 2 minutes of it) first because everyone wrote about it in ur guys' reviews. after that I kinda just skipped through each of the songs to vibe em out and I dont want to listen to the rest so rating based on what I did listen to. I feel like maybe that's not the point of this but also Im getting a little bit behind and I just dont feel like listening to this and I dont know that I will ever be in the mood to.
Throwing Muses
3/5
p standard album, got a more tired of it the more I listened.
Scritti Politti
4/5
This was fine. Low 4. I think that it didn’t do anything crazy but all of it sounded good. 6.5/10 maybe.
Bert Jansch
3/5
I think I would like this playing in my house, but like it wasn’t doing that much. Prolly would only listen to it passively. Like a 7.5/10 but a 3
The Police
3/5
Overall dissapointed. I like every breath you take a lot, there’s a few other good songs but like as a whole not a fan. Prolly like as an album a 2 but every breath you take is a high 4 and then there were a few songs that were solid.
Pixies
3/5
Didn’t like the first few songs, it got better tho. 7/10
Miles Davis
3/5
I have the same reaction every time we get something like this and I just think that it's fine but im not that into it even tho clearly he's really talented
Simon & Garfunkel
5/5
love this. also im always confusing Paul Simon w/ Peter Gabriel I dont really know why.
Nirvana
5/5
Very good! Long ish and not my usual genre but I enjoyed the whole thing. One of the better live albums we’ve gotten, also recently i have heard/seen more Kurt Cobain references than usual which is a funny coincidence 9/10
The Dictators
4/5
how do these guys have less than 37K monthly listeners on Spotify bc they are kindve really good.
Talk Talk
4/5
super fun 80s album, I liked it a lot 8/10
Stevie Wonder
5/5
Very good. Like a high 4 low 5 9/10
Aretha Franklin
3/5
I listened to this a while ago in the car but forgot to rate, it was good but the ppl I was driving started inquiring about what my Spotify wrapped was last year and I was like uhh why the interrogation ahhhh. I listened to Lady Soul and this immediately after. But I listened to lady soul while walking so I think I internalized it more but I think it's better regardless. like a super high 3.
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
3/5
wasn't paying a ton of attention to this
Parliament
3/5
I confused parliament and pavement and I was a bit confused when I started listening. I think I am just a complete idiot. album was fun, dont think ill revisit tho
Michael Kiwanuka
5/5
really good. I was doing work when listening to this and nothing made me like perk up yk but the whole thing was enjoyable. 9/10 but like idk if I should give a 4 or 5.
The Electric Prunes
5/5
Love! It’s pretty old so I feel like the fact that I like it and it’s old makes me like it more.
OutKast
5/5
Super duper good. I feel like I say I'm not a huge hiphop/rap girly but re-evaluating and I think that's false n based on what I usually hear out and about, which is what my brother listens to or stuff on the radio that's not really up my alley.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
kinda whack how we r getting two Aretha Franklin albums so close together. I haven't listened to the other one yet tho. good but not something I see myself listening to all the time.
The Pogues
3/5
im lowk going insane rn adn I think this is helping in the background. I like the woman's voice better.
John Cale
4/5
Liked it a lot!
Public Enemy
3/5
Rebels without a pause irritated me specifically the noises in the background. Album was fine just not my thing. Think I felt similarly ab fear of a black planet.
XTC
4/5
hello what this is so fun. I think like a 8/10. was just a super enjoyable listen. idk how much id listen every day but I think as an album this is super duper great.
Slint
3/5
I think they are annunciatinf a bit too much and it’s throwing me off. Songs r long. Idk why I must listen to this before I die. Mid 5/10
Beck
4/5
I have one song(Heart is a Drum) by beck in my liked songs which is more of a connection than what I usually have to these albums. That song is a different vibe from this album tho. Also since looking at the albums that have been taken out of the book I’m very judgmental of any post 2000 album. I don’t like the lo fi rap thing he’s got going on but everything other than that I enjoyed. Rating based on what’s good rather than what’s not like a 7/10
Metallica
2/5
By the end I was just like please god make it stop. This is the only music I’ve listened to all day. They r good at metal and the live album does them really well but like two hours of this was wayyyy too much and I just did not enjoy it.
Ms. Dynamite
3/5
I dont love r&b but I think this is good. few bops in there
Yes
3/5
I was hosting office hours while listening to this and no kids showed up. It was fine. Really liked the instrumental stuff at the beginning of the first song but subsequently tuned this out kinda.
Jefferson Airplane
4/5
I liked this, very 60s. I did enjoy the first half more but idk if thats bc it was better of if I just got bored.
Laibach
3/5
Kindve ate. Never gonna listen again, probably. I had to switch off of this because it was overwhelming to listen to all at once. Interesting blurb on Spotify. "We are fascists as much as Hitler was a painter." collective not individuals. ok then! Glad this was on the list
The Byrds
4/5
Im p sure I listened to this the day it was generated but I forgot to rate it so here after listening round 2. I like this album. also has me relistseneing to mr Tamborine man bc they also ate w/ that. 8.5/10
The Fall
5/5
Saw the album cover and artist name and assumed this would be stupid. I was stupid this is fire. Really liked a few of the songs and the rest were all good.
The Doors
4/5
I was listening to this just like out loud on my phone speaker making breakfast and the album was fine but I put my headphones in to walk to work and then it sounded really good. Idk if the songs at the end were better or if I just needed to not be hearing ambient noise. I really like End of the Night. Overall p good. 8/10 + .5 for end of the night so 8.5/10
Marvin Gaye
3/5
Pretty good nothing crazy
Joni Mitchell
3/5
I don’t know why on earth I gave Blue a 5. I want to love Joni Mitchell but I just don’t. This album was good enough and I enjoy the energy but I think it’s much better as an album than as individual songs. As in I’d prolly skip most of the songs if they popped up on a playlist. Something ab the way her songs flow just don’t do it for me. 7/10
Nick Drake
5/5
I’ve been off the album train for the past week ish and this got me back on. A few songs from this album have been in my recent rotation so I was excited to listen to the album in its entirety and it did not disappoint. Was really great to sit outside and work to.
Sabu
3/5
if all the songs were just like the first minute or two of the songs I'd prolly rate this like a 4 or 5 but by the time it got to the halfway point I was bored of listening to the same drum instrumental thing for two more minutes straight.
Jack White
4/5
I fw it
3/5
fun noises... I guess
Van Morrison
5/5
Pookie is looking pure fire
Beatles
5/5
This was good. Shocker 😱😱😱😱. Also dojo is severely messing up my sleep schedule the fact that I am awake at 2:50 in the am is PREPOSTEROUS
Talking Heads
4/5
feel like the last few songs were not super exciting to me but overall I liked it.
Pink Floyd
4/5
Pink Floyd is one of those bands/artists that makes me Super happy I'm doing this 1001 thing. Obviously I know who Pink Floyd are but I never really listened to them before. I wanted to give this a 5 but the long instrumentals were a bit much for me -- they sounded amazing but I think some of their more songy songs are more up my alley. Still really great 8/10
Ice T
3/5
Ok immediate thoughts: that first song is stupid it sounds like a middle schooler went crazy on garage band but throw money at em. Also I mostly know ice t from the few episodes of law n order svu that I’ve seen. Overall album was not bad but don’t see myself revisiting any of the songs. 5/10
PJ Harvey
4/5
this just reminds me of moth at IM soccer. I fw it tho. Well most of it, a few songs r the same vibe as the other German YouTube albums w/ the lady shrieking kind of. Overall I enjoyed.
Neu!
4/5
I’m really confusing myself because I highkey really liked this? Except for Leb wohl. Like im just very much enjoying music lately but idk why im rating things so high.
edited, I liked this but idt id give it a 5 so 4
David Bowie
4/5
Another pretty good Bowie album that’s not like crazy or anything. I do think I liked this one better than his orher albums we got. Are we finally done with the Bowie albums? I think we should start betting on random albums and like someone owes/gets money if a certain album shows up before/after a different one. The songs were a bit long but the album is shortish so like ig that evened out.8/10
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Super Y2K… which I love but at the same time I don’t love that much at all. Album cover is so good tho Christina ate I wish I could rock those jeans like that.
Elvis Presley
5/5
Really good. I get the Elvis hype, makes me wanna get married in Vegas w an Elvis impersonator officiating
Depeche Mode
4/5
I liked this. I hadn’t heard of depeche mode but I guess they r pretty popular. Seems pretty standard as far as English rock esque bands on this list go. I feel like w/ the arcade fire/new order/joy division/jefferson airplane albums I liked them fine on the first listen but I've grown to like them significantly more bc individual songs just pop up on my playlists n they just are good... I can see this being similar to that I think?
4/5
idk I feel like ppl say this is one of bowies best albums but I didn't really like it more/less than his other stuff. pretty good.
3/5
I liked a few of the songs in the second half of the album. I don't love the woman's voice. Groovy but theres only a few songs on here id listen to again and even those weren't crazy or anything.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
A little context to my state of listening —!Lowk didn’t sleep well last night bc I was so stressed I thought I was gonna shit myself and I listened to this in the morning and was still eepy and I didn’t wanna go to work bc my coworker drives me absolutely off the walls bonkers mad not happy so I wasn’t fully engaged w/ the album and it also was not the vibe I needed. Not terrible but don’t see myself putting this on.
The xx
Curtis Mayfield
2/5
either I dont like this or im the wrong mood
3/5
Cute fun and I like it but doesn’t do anything crazy for me. 7/10
Marvin Gaye
2/5
wayy too god loving for me to appreciate. also I just think about the weird Spotify playlist thats like Mavin Gaye being confused. not a fan.
Van Morrison
4/5
Was listening to this in the car and got through the first three songs and then into the mystic just played 12 times I have no clue what I did and why that happened but I didn’t realize til Kailey pointed it out LOL. Anyways I love Van Morrison and this album is great
Machito
3/5
🤷♀️
Ryan Adams
4/5
Really enjoyed some of the songs, 8/10
The Smashing Pumpkins
5/5
I had one song from this album liked before listening to this. I think I like the smashing pumpkins. It's always fun to get albums I think I'll enjoy but haven't listened to yet. I didn't listen to the deluxe version thats like 3 hours but maybe I should at some point. I kinda love the balance they strike between a few chill/mellow moments and mostly upbeat vibe because I think I enjoy depressing music a lot but then ill be a week into my sufjan/elliot/adrienne eras and just a bit more weepy than id like to be so like I need to incorporate more of this energy into my life bc I really liked this. TLDR; fire.
System Of A Down
4/5
lowk cunty. I like these guys(I will never listen to this again) 9/10 -- metal goes unreasonably hard when I need to be productive, do need to cleanse my ears afterwards tho
Venom
2/5
ughhhh. why are all metal albums long. Feel like I go back n forth on metal and today I just was not in the mood at all. the start of the album woke the poor cat from her nap 👎
The Cure
4/5
I was so unbelievably eepy listening to this and i think I I liked it better bc of that. Overall good
American Music Club
4/5
didn't listen to this earlier bc its not on streaming services. im not sure if me not being able to put this on Spotify is making me want this more or what but I feel like I would totally listen to some of these songs. I liked this
Metallica
3/5
listened to this bc im studying and its not as metally as I wanted it to be and also im so fkn grumpy because I forgot to turn in a homework that I know I did good on because I literally sat in OH doing it and double checked my answers. thats besides the point but I wasn't in the mood to enjoy this. the hold school has on me is so stupid and dumb and whoever said no late homework is a poopy head. grrrrr
Solange
3/5
Back to rating things west coast time rahhh. Didnt' realize til now that Solange is Beyonce's sister. This album was fine but I don't really like any of the songs enough to listen to them again. Maybe I'm the problem. Also after knowing how picky they r w/ newer albums ive been a bit more scrutinous(Idek if thats a word) when we get a post 2000 album. Like ur telling me I need to hear this more than arcade fire, kendrick, Adele, mgmt, MIA... I guess they r different genres but still. Side note, I listened to one song off arular bc it's mentioned in the top of the expunged thingy and im so hyped for that album! anyways... mid 6/10
Jerry Lee Lewis
3/5
Good enough. Can’t see myself listening again
Portishead
4/5
I’m on a train and some of the sounds in the album confused me bc I couldn’t tell if it was the song or the train. I think the combo of the instrumental and the voice is interesting and I like it.
GZA
4/5
Not bad. Low 4
Herbie Hancock
3/5
I didn't enjoy the thingy at the end of watermelon man. was mostly good but if I was paying attention its bc something stood out and not in a good way. I just am not an enjoyer of instrumentals like this.
Skunk Anansie
4/5
Not a promising start but it got better. Like a lot better. 8/10 maybe even
Sinead O'Connor
5/5
You cause as much sorrow kind of has cranberries energy. I didn’t know that the cranberries r Irish. Anyways this album is great
Air
5/5
Air just gets it. The voice was kinda weird but I fw it still.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
5/5
so good
Emmylou Harris
4/5
I forgot this existed for like a day there. Sidenote I stopped adding to my 1001 playlist in April so playing catch up rn, I hate how I don't process songs individually when I listen to albums bc they kind of mush together and then I dont realize how much I like them and I dont add them to my liked songs.
ab this album-- I like it. Not that any of this is super loud wild crazy but I really enjoy the more mellow songs. 7.5/10
50 Cent
4/5
Alot of the songs r a bit repetitive for me but some of these slap. 8/10
Willie Nelson
4/5
91 and still touring is actually crazy. What a guy. High 4
Radiohead
5/5
10/10
The Jesus And Mary Chain
4/5
I like just like honey and I had slightly different expectations for the album but like I dont even know why because it totally made sense and fit together. pretty good
Little Simz
3/5
Electric Light Orchestra
5/5
This was a lovely start to my day. Woke up put this on made myself coffee sat on our lawn swing drank said coffee went to Costco returned our shit ass pans went to home goods got a good ass pan and then the album ended. Long but not only did I not get bored I enjoyed the whole thing. I feel like what I do during albums impacts my opinion a lot. 8.75/10
SZA
4/5
Not a huge r&b fan so didn’t love this but think it’s good
Grizzly Bear
4/5
I didn't really have expectations but this exceeded them.
Funkadelic
4/5
Also didn't get to this til now since it's not on Spotify. This is the same guy whos on Wesley's theory. I love that song. Def would have to be in the mood to listen to this album but it's a vibe.
AC/DC
4/5
fire.
Mudhoney
3/5
I really liked the beginning. was too long and I got sick of it
Dr. John
2/5
yk that one scene in white chicks when they r like yo mama so stupid she went to dr dre for a pap smear. anyways yeah this album was abt as pleasant as a pap smear.
Norah Jones
3/5
This was good enough I guess, but I wasn't really feeling it. I don't see myself listening to any of these songs again. high 3.
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
3/5
ehh this was fun but im not super into it
Muddy Waters
3/5
hoochie coochie man made a mid ass album
Derek & The Dominos
4/5
pretty good. the middle chunk kinda blended together. not a super long album but long enough that I feel like I might enjoy these songs more when I listen separately from the album
Boards of Canada
2/5
Quite dull
Arctic Monkeys
4/5
v good. its the type of upbeat that makes the whole album kinda blur together in my brain so I couldn't really pick out songs I like more
Fairport Convention
5/5
This sounds so nice, so folksy and fun. Like so apple picking and apple pie and dog looking doggo thats friends with a cutie little cat and leaves and fun little boots and autumny jacket. I didn't listen to it earlier bc it's called unhalfbricking and I think thats a silly name. its also like very late rn and Im a bit delirious so maybe that is influencing my opinions.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
Kind of underwhelming
Turbonegro
4/5
honestly this was pretty good. They r def trying way way too hard to be vulgar and shocking. Im getting kinda freaky Friday vibes, as in if this were a band in a movie id be like wow that was lowkey good. prolly unlikely to revisit this
Van Halen
4/5
nice and short. I wasn't really in the mood for this but still good.
Steely Dan
5/5
Really fucking good
Motörhead
2/5
Lowk fell asleep listening to this
Björk
5/5
Idk if this is an evolution of me or like a de-evolution of Björk and this album is just less quirky than her later ones but I really like this
The The
3/5
Eh
The Black Crowes
3/5
Pretty good but didn’t really stand out to me if that makes sense. 7/10
The Specials
3/5
Feels like a really standard album. Like a very solid 3. Has me reflecting on the fact that I am trying to listen to 1001 albums and I am very happy I am doing this because I probably won't revisit this album much but like it was a good enough listen and I feel like this is the average album I need to endure to experience all the good ones on the list is so worth because this wasn't even bad. its even good. just not good enough to be super compelling
Silver Jews
4/5
I don't know if I was supposed to like this or not but I do. I really like the cadence of the music n the tune n the instruments.
Fiona Apple
4/5
Like this a lot! Most of the Fiona Apple songs I listen to r from her 1999 album n I think I like those a bit better but she’s so good
Fugees
4/5
The Cult
2/5
Not a fan. I was like oh this got better and actually it was just the album ended and Spotify was on autoplay. Not offensively bad just not very great either
Cyndi Lauper
5/5
im just a girl 👯♀️
Eagles
4/5
Prolly cause I’ve heard it the most but take it easy is def the song that I paid most attention to, nice listen overall tho
Boston
3/5
Had its good moments but otherwise some of the sounds were not really speaking to me as in I just was like eh not for me. As in ok cool instrumentaly sounds and singing I guess, but I just was wanting something different and that’s okay. High 3/low4
My Bloody Valentine
4/5
Love the sound but think I would enjoy it more if it was a bit more vocals forward.
B.B. King
3/5
Didn’t really enjoy the live recording for this. Not really my thinf
Bad Company
2/5
booooooring
Gotan Project
4/5
some of the songs ran a bit long for my liking but I really enjoy the sound.
Pixies
5/5
This has some of my fav pixies songs. Good album
Elton John
4/5
Elton John is always fun but I think goodbye yellow brick road is def better than this. Low 4
Destiny's Child
3/5
I did not really like this that much, very repetitive and not in a way I liked. they have nice voices and it wasn't offensive or anything but just didn't enjoy it. I think I dont really appreciate y2k stuff
The Rolling Stones
3/5
idk this wasn't doing it for me, like I kinda tuned it out but not bc it was bad just bc it wasn't interesting.
The Killers
4/5
mr brightside n somebody told me r def the best songs on here imo, I think id be really into this some years ago when this genre was my shit. some bangers and the rest wasn't bad. also guess this is one of the expunged albums, I would think thats because theres only a few songs that you NEED to hear(imo) and you've prolly heard those without this book so I guess that makes sense. Also the killers have a song with weyes blood that I like.
New York Dolls
4/5
why was this lowk fire. maybe im just in a good mood
Todd Rundgren
4/5
liked this a lot, glad it didn't all sound like the same song. it was kind've long for me today tho. 8.5/10
The Who
5/5
Really likes this. So fun
N.W.A.
2/5
not digging it. 5/10
Frank Black
3/5
There were like 2 songs I didn't like but other than that none of the individual songs were that bad. Feel like there was an energy shift midway through the album. Couldve been better if it was split into 2 but as a whole it wore on me.
2Pac
4/5
I used to be a hater of long songs just in general and I think ive evolved, and ik none of these songs are even that long but they are all consistently around 4-5 min which I think is a little lengthy for the avg/standard. I feel like anything lengthy you gotta do something spicy to warrant the time. Also I feel like a bit of variety in song length in an album is wayy good for keeping me engaged and this didn't do that. Anyways other than that I think this is quite good and I enjoyed it.
Adele
4/5
I think this is a lot better than the other Adele album we got and I really like it and she’s got a gorgeous voice but I don’t think it’s a 5
Run-D.M.C.
2/5
I totally didn't realize its tricky is a real song, it's kinda fun, thought a few of the songs were fine but not a huge fan of the album as a listening experience tho. the beatboxing was not enjoyable.
Bee Gees
5/5
stupid essay grr I am losing my mind. Anyways I love this it's so lovely and kitty is just chillin with me on the sofa and thats so lovely. Also trafalgar is a weird word and I don't like how it sounds sung.
PJ Harvey
5/5
im so hyped for PJ Harveys other album bc the songs I know on there are actually so fkn good. this was also good tho.
Soundgarden
2/5
Bill Callahan
5/5
Oh yes.
Heaven 17
2/5
Wayyy too long, it seems like they r trying to be a little bit of LCD soundsystem wannabes(maybe or maybe I am just not clocking this right). Feel like there was some variety at the beginning but as it went on I was more and more over it.
The Zombies
4/5
bunch of British guys in suits standing on a sidewalk... wonder where ive seen that before. they may be Beatles copycats but im here for it bc this was pretty good.
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
I thought I was going to like this more. Feel like it was almost good but every song had something that was like slightly off. Maybe I'll like it more if I listen more. Low 3.
The Soft Boys
2/5
Jesus fucking christ this was miserable. this is definitely not the worst album we've had but it just really wasn't that good at all and its so goddamn long I dont understand why its on this list and I dont know how anyone listens to this and enjoys it. at least as an album. Some of the songs were fine, but overall I just didn't like it. I think this may have been the least I've enjoyed listening to an album on this list so far. Like it wasn't even comically or offensively bad, at least thats entertaining. This was just bad.
edited: I dont know what I was going off about this wasn't that bad. it still wasn't good.
The Birthday Party
2/5
lol what. that was pretty darn bad but at least it made me feel something.
Black Sabbath
4/5
maybe its because I just listened to the birthday party, maybe its because this is fire, but I was rocking w/ this
Queen
5/5
My carpool used to have this album cd and we’d listen to it on the way to kindergarten. And first and second and third grade. Just a damn good album
G. Love & Special Sauce
2/5
No ty
Oasis
3/5
Eh. I feel like if this was nostalgic for me I’d like it but it’s not nostalgic so it was just fine
John Lennon
4/5
Johnny ate
The Prodigy
2/5
didn't love, wouldn't listen to again.
Soft Machine
2/5
18 minutes for a song is always too much but If ur gonna make a long song atleast make it very good. This wasn’t that.
Harry Nilsson
3/5
fairly boring.
The Stooges
4/5
Fun!
Talking Heads
5/5
Easiest 5 of my life. Every single one of these songs is a banger. I cannot believe I didn’t give the other talking heads albums 5s
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
Super fun listen
Carole King
5/5
🔥🔥🔥
Can
3/5
my friend was playing this and I was like no way you are listening to can rn. Mid.
Bad Brains
3/5
fine but I feel like im never in the mood to hear this. kinda just tune out while I work music
David Bowie
4/5
idk I feel like im still missing something here w/ bowie
Femi Kuti
3/5
Good enough but a bit too long for my liking. I started the album then made tacos and I’m eating and the album still isn’t over.
Antony and the Johnsons
4/5
Kinda made me feel like I’m In a movie
David Bowie
4/5
I liked this. Didn’t like it a 5 tho.
Syd Barrett
4/5
I feel like I objectively didn’t love it but subjectively I like it does that make sense
The Slits
4/5
Listened to this album twice in the time it took me to fold my clothes..i think i need to do laundry more frequently. Was better the 2nd time around. Was good but nothing crazy. Can see a world where i listen to this more and enjoy it but for rn just good. 7/10
The Stooges
3/5
The long song was kinda boring. Alright but nothing crazy imo
Elvis Costello
4/5
I listened to this a few days ago, guess I didn't rate it. Thought it was good, dont think I'll listen to a ton of the songs outside of this
Hole
4/5
There’s a song by hole that I’ve been listening to a lot recently so kinda fun that we get this album now I guess. Enjoyed it
Hugh Masekela
3/5
the songs weren't bad but Jesus Christ I must've listened to this in like 4 increments im so over it
Ramones
4/5
This is actually so fun. I swear I remember blitzkrieg bop being in the soundtrack for either she's the man or bend it like Beckham but I looked it up and its not. Its definitely in some movie. It's just the perfect music for a kinda shitty romcom but actually it's not shitty bc why am I so invested and giggling out loud.
The Undertones
4/5
I listened a few days ago I think I liked it I really like the album cover so 5
The 13th Floor Elevators
3/5
Eh this wasn’t all that
Spiritualized
3/5
Some of this was quite nice . Some was too chill. Feel like the name spiritualized kinda irks me like they think they r on some woke shit but actually just bc you mediate doesn’t mean ur better than everyone.
The War On Drugs
5/5
Listened to this on my flight, it was very lovely.
Cat Stevens
4/5
Sorry all I can think ab is how my overpriced airport subway was wayyy underfilled and now I’m stilly hungy :((((
Always album was nice
Leonard Cohen
4/5
mhmm... Leonard ate
The Pretty Things
3/5
idk if this is normal, and I guess I dont read much anymore, but I am reading and I listened to this while reading... kinda tuned this out and I think that thats bc of the album and not bc im reading bc the next album started and im def noticing that more.
Meat Loaf
4/5
I liked some parts more than others but the stuff I liked was super fun and the stuff I didn’t like wasn’t even bad just felt a bit bland. Overall v fun
Sonic Youth
5/5
Lucas u might be onto something these guys r kinda good
Jane's Addiction
3/5
P indifferent to this
Santana
3/5
I thought most of this was pretty boring but the guitar stuff on the second to last song is pretty cool. I never really played instruments growing up so I dont really appreciate the talent that goes into these albums. Im keeping Alexa’s electric guitar while she’s doing her semester in Switzerland. I tried to learn a few chords and they hurt my hand to do and I wasn’t even playing alot. And idk switching chords just seems impossible to me. it’s just so impressive to me when ppl can just play an instrument good like the playing on the albums we hear is just insane. Makes me realize there’s so much more that goes into this music than just some guy who can kinda sing sometimes. That said this album was meh except for that song, feel like these comments are more fitting for a diff album but I’m thinking about it now so I’m writing ab it now.
Radiohead
5/5
Really good. im very glad I listened to this w/ headphones and not in the car or w/ shitty headphones or on a bad speaker bc I think the sound quality added a lot. I haven't really listened to any Radiohead albums outside of the ones we've gotten so far on this list, and I listened to the bends in the car w/ my mom and didn't really appreciate it fully and I just listen to songs off their other albums as I encounter them but I might just need to binge listen their entire discography bc I fuck with this HEAVY
Pixies
4/5
There’s some pixies songs I really like. Like I listen to them a lot. And idk why I didn’t rate the other albums higher bc I feel like they have a lot of songs I listen to. On this one where’s my mind is the only one I knew beforehand. For some reason the other albums didn’t really hit as albums for me. this did, but maybe bc I was more conscious about my mind inner workings. Also we got lots of albums that have naked boobs on the album cover kindve in a short time frame lol
Kings of Leon
4/5
I wasn't not in the mood for this but I wasn't in the mood for this either... think this was a little hit or miss for me??? enjoyed the overall tempo tho
U2
4/5
This guy I liked in middle school was a big U2 fan so 8th grade me listened to the Joshua tree and was like 😱😱 wow I love UK rock but actually in my heart I liked silly little American emo bands. Now I actually love UK rock & rock adjacent I but don’t listen to a ton of U2. Anyways this was decent.
Japan
4/5
Thought this was quite fun
Coldplay
4/5
I liked p much everything from the scientist to the 2nd to last song. Maybe it took me 3 songs to get used to his voice and I just don’t love the last song. But I don’t think Coldplay takes much getting used to right?? Anyways this was good
Kraftwerk
3/5
Some of this was a bit shit but some of it was super fun. Also rating this in Frankfurt(just the airport so idek if you can count it) and autobahn is the highways system in Germany and I think that’s a fun coincidence.
The Verve
3/5
There’s a few songs I didn’t like and a few I did like. Ur welcome for the most groundbreaking review of an album ever.
Suede
3/5
So meh.
Kings of Leon
3/5
Thought a lot of this was more dramatic than it needed to be low 3/ high 2
R.E.M.
4/5
I enjoyed this
Gram Parsons
3/5
I enjoyed a few songs but for the most part this was kinda dull, I usually like this vibe of country tho
Van Morrison
3/5
This wasn’t bad at all but I just wasn’t feeling it. I really liked the first van Morrison album we got after that I feel like it’s been a bit worse every time. I think
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Pretty solid, I enjoyed this
The Who
4/5
I listened to this on the plane and I forgot to write down what I thought. I think there were a few songs I didn’t like but also others I think I’ll listen to again.
Spiritualized
3/5
Not god only religion made me feel like I was floating. Maybe bc I am floating in a giant metal tube sat in middle seat sandwiched between two men and behind someone obnoxiously reclining their seat. i also like cop shoot cop and a few others. Better than the previous spiritualized album I think.
ABBA
4/5
I like ABBA. I guess like who doesn’t. Mamma Mia is the first song I remember having as like my current fav song tho. My neighbor growing up had a little Barbie boombox and an abba cd and that was my shit. Slipping through my fingers all the time and a few others were good but other than that I feel like this had good musical qualities but the songs themselves weren’t super catchy.
Dusty Springfield
4/5
I think I like the other dusty springfield album better. Son of a preacher man and breakfast in bed are bangers. This was still nice tho
Scissor Sisters
4/5
What a bizarre cover of comfortably numb.
M.I.A.
5/5
This album feels like it was made for me. I think M.I.A is the coolest. Like she's Tamil, im Tamil and idk much about her but I think she's prolly my fav famous brown person. And this album is named after her mom Kala which is literally my grandmother's name. My mom and MIA are like the same age so I imagine our Kalas are the same age too so basically this album is about my grandma. Also my mom's favorite dog growing up was called Jimmy. The sound of the album is just super homey to me
Morrissey
4/5
I don’t really understand morrisseys obsession w calling ppl fatty. Idk I like the smiths and some of his other solo stuff n I liked this less but it’s still good.
Kanye West
5/5
Idk if y'alls schools did senior assassins but i ended up chasing after this guy through a park to get him out and my partner sent the video and put runaway in the background and it was lowk my social peak and that song holds sentimental value in my heart.
Orbital
2/5
Idk I’m not really feeling it
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
I really like this album also I have a coaster of this album cover
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
4/5
I’m sure I’d have my usual not fully appreciating of instrumentals to share if I listened to this like any other time but I’m tired and doing the dishes and I rlly enjoyed this.
Terence Trent D'Arby
3/5
P good
Cheap Trick
4/5
Surrender is the first song I ever liked on Spotify and I want you to want me just makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Don’t have much opinions on cheap trick outside of that
Calexico
4/5
The Rolling Stones
4/5
I listened to this in the morning now it’s night and I’m eepy and dont remember my thoughts except for I think I thought 4
The Prodigy
3/5
Boy have I had a day… was in a weird headspace while listening, don’t hate prolly won’t listen again. The album cover is not something I enjoy looking at. It’s how I feel like I look like when I cry.
The Flying Burrito Brothers
4/5
Fun! I never know what to expect when things have a silly name
Michael Jackson
5/5
I love Michael Jackson. Also my mom loves Michael Jackson and he’s like the only non Indian music she ever acknowledges.
The Beach Boys
3/5
Pleasant listen and pretty good but I can’t really see myself listening to these songs outside of rn
Queen
5/5
Idk how big any of these songs r but I didn’t know them before this. I really like this
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
I have a headache and feel not so hot so my opinions rn may be off. Not bad but didn’t do anything crazy. The birthday party played on the auto play of random songs after this lol.
Deep Purple
3/5
This is classic Abhi in music league. I don’t think it’s my go to for what I’d listen to but it’s clearly well done and pretty good
The Beta Band
4/5
I had conflicting opinions about this. I enjoyed some parts. I think I always over think the post 2000 albums.
Willie Nelson
5/5
Uh… yeah
Ray Charles
3/5
Thought this was boring. Low 3
Peter Frampton
3/5
Fine
Foo Fighters
4/5
I like this
Jeru The Damaja
3/5
Unrelated but do yall put off listening to albums bc yk they will be on this list? because I definitely do and im thinking maybe I shouldn't. Also I never know if anyone is actually reading this or if im just making a fool of myself. I guess I make a fool of myself either way bc I write some pretty stupid reviews sometimes.
Anyways. im not crazy about super traditional hiphop. Like this seems pretty good, but it's not super exciting to me. Maybe my perspective will change eventually. 7/10
Frank Zappa
4/5
I dont know much ab frank Zappa but I feel like if theres ppl out there who make frank Zappa their entire personality, I kind get it.
Kelela
5/5
Wow I was not expecting to like this as much as I do, its pretty good. Im surprised ive never heard of kelela. On the sza album I said I don't really like r&b, thats a lie. Any generalization I make about my feeling on a genre is a lie-- I think I just like music. glad this is on the list.
Beatles
5/5
I like the sitar in this better than in revolver. I think it’s a bit more subtle. All the songs are good, a few I really like. Norwegian wood is a current fav I really like that song have been listening to it alot.
Nirvana
5/5
Scentless apprentice was too loud for me. The rest of the album is like really good.
Arrested Development
3/5
dont really see myself listening to this again but it was fine
Genesis
4/5
long album but I thought it was a fine listen. some of the songs had parts I liked but I dont think id listen to the songs just for those parts.
The Go-Betweens
3/5
enjoyable listen high 3
Also, when I saw alvvays at home the Beths opened for them, they r from New Zealand and their accents r really prominent in the music and I didn't really enjoy that part of it. This band is Australian, so similar accent to New Zealand, and I dont really notice the accent that much. I wonder why some ppl sing in like generic English and others dont it's interesting to me.
Khaled
2/5
I think the album is nice enough, alot of the songs sound fairly generic to me, a lot of Indian cinema music sounds like this too. The imagine cover being a part of the album rubs me the wrong way. Like ok theres a million mediocre British alt-rock albums on the list and you needed something ethnic for diversity so u throw this in. Bffr it has imagine on it and seems fairly influenced by western music. Lucas u were talking ab how u give points for things being like creative or genre defining-- I feel like there are just better things that could be put on the list, and if ur not gonna put something novel and exciting, omit it altogether. Like imo an arabic album on here it should be representative of Arab music in the same way Heaven or Las Vegas is of shoegaze yk, and I highly doubt this album is like that. Especially considering how blank the wikipedia page is.
The B-52's
4/5
this is so fun I love it. I also enjoyed the songs that aren't on Spotify.
Guns N' Roses
4/5
Pretty clear why guns n roses are as big as they are, but I dont think this is very exciting. I thought the beginning was good but it was boring by the end and not bc the songs were bad just bc the genre doesn't have much to it
Bee Gees
5/5
Feel p much the same way ab this as I did ab trafalgar. Did not enjoy the song the album is named after and something about everything else just really worked for me.

3/5
My standard is not paying attention to lyrics, like even songs I think have great lyrics I have to be kindve locked in and emo to notice the lyrics. I noticed these lyrics and I wasn’t locked in and that wasn’t a good thing. Enjoyed some of it tho

The Pharcyde
3/5
Put this on because I was enjoying my music too much to do work. I can't work if I know the words to a song. or I can work but like im writing a paper so im thinking the wrong words yk. My paper is on AI and Ethics and I looked myself up on chat gpt for research and it was very freaky how much it told me about myself so I guess it can do my review of this album:
Based on the available information, Iniyaa is a student-athlete majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, with a background in hurdles and jumps. She has also been involved in projects related to coding and music genres during her time at Del Norte High School. However, there is no specific information about her personal music preferences or familiarity with Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde. Therefore, it's difficult to accurately assess how she might feel about the album. Chat gives it a 4.5/5.

a few songs off this album have been in my recent rotation, like more so than usual so the timing of this is nice. I've never listened to the whole album tho, I really like it. Also didn't realize its from the 70s and I was a bit surprised but its not really that surprising.
Kate Bush
4/5

2/5
would just like to let everyone know that I submitted my essay w/ 28 seconds left. really living on the edge. woohoo. anyways I grew up hearing brown ppl devotional music I think alot of it is really fucking annoying to listen to. i dont mean that in a disrespectful to god way but I also am not religious so I guess it doesn't matter. I do think some carnatic music is really nice tho and theres def been some performances n stuff my mom dragged me to that I really enjoyed. I thought this was too long and not that enjoyable tho. I think Carnatic music is better than this in general tho, I guess im biased. idk everytime(everytime!) we have an album I feel to the smallest degree somewhat culturally related to I have a lot of opinions
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
As an album kinda dull the talk singing is not super engaging. Think I would maybe enjoy more as an individual song on a playlist

long ass album and I am embarrassed to admit I was playing the snake game the entire time I was listening. really enjoyed the album. I have been in a super duper folksy indie phase so it was nice to switch things up with this. I also totally see where the flute album came from, the instrument parts of this were enjoyable. also André 3000's bday was 2 days ago. happy bday André!
