Reviews (page 4 of 13)

Strangely, the lesser known tracks stand up really well against the more well-known tracks. A fantastic album. It's nice to finally get another genre-defining album after the recent dross I'd been served up.

Exodus was one of the first records I truly loved. My dad had this CD in his truck, and I immediately enjoyed a lot of the songs. The tracks that I didn’t enjoy as much have grown on me over the years. I think part of the reason for favoring some tracks to others was my lack of understanding of the meaning behind some of the deeper more political tracks.

There’s a reason this album has billions of streams. It’s timeless. So many great songs about life and love and journeys. Bob was one of a kind.

Classic

My second Bob Marley album in this list, and just as good. As memorable and influential Three Little Birds and One Love are, I think the beginning of the album is even stronger. It's darker and bluesier in So Much Things To Say and Guiltiness through Exodus. Maybe a little more consistent than Natty Dread (Rebel Music is still the best of both though).

I am very familiar with this album, it was a big part of my soundtrack during my time at college. Wonderful record.

One of the best

Fuck yea Bob! Natural Mystic Exodus Jamming Waiting In Vain Three Little Birds!!!!!! One Love!!!!!!!!!! The combo of those two bangers is insane together

Great album beginning to end

Perfect for a Monday morning commute

I don't think there's ever a bad time to listen to this one.

Great album. Oddly, I don't like the first and last tracks but everything in between is sublime. It isn't perfect but I'm going to give it 5 stars for what it is able to accomplish in terms of renovating my whole mood today. Thanks Bob and company.

One of the best albums of all time

Amazing. First song hooked me. This album has emotional highs and lows, and each are fulfilling and resonating in their own way. Love this project front to back. I’m thankful to listen to it, and will definitely go back to it in times of love, grief, and just life being experienced for all it entails.

Consistently solid album. Bob Marley holds a special place in my heart, and both instrumentally and lyrically this album is transcendent.

I must be getting old, never had the patience for this in my younger days. But today it made me feel all right.

Beautiful beautiful album. These songs are so familiar but this must have been a revelation to people who heard it for the first time.

An absolute vibe.

Awesome album! Such a vibethat few other albums can achieve. 'Natural Mystic' takes my fave slot.

Delightful.

Never disappoints.

Well, I feel like I can official say that I have now been doing this project for an entire year. I started on October 5th, 2023. It is now (as of when I'm writing this) about 8:00 PM on October 4, 2024. Every day on the calendar can be associated with me listening to an album from this list. I can hardly believe. Fortunately, I get to celebrate this occasion with an amazing album. This is just a phenomenal album right here. Bob Marley is a legend of music. If anyone gets to be called "the Reggae Guy," it's him. I already listened to Natty Dread and liked it quite a bit. However, there's something about Exodus that just makes it a special listen in comparison. Perhaps this album feels more varied, because it does. While the songs do generally have the same feel to them, it's more so in a "this is just what the artist sounds like" kind of way and not a "these all feel like the same song" kind of way. The writing is perhaps the biggest source of variety in this album. Some songs really hone in on the feel-good aspect of reggae. Songs like "Jamming" and the absolutely iconic "Three Little Birds" just make me happy. The whole album does bring great vibes. However, some of the songs on the first half in particular really have a lot of depth to the writing. I mean, the opener "Natural Mystic" has the line, "Many more will have to suffer / Many more will have to die." What? I did not expect that from this album, but it adds some depth to the music that is not a bad thing in the slightest. The sound is great too. The reggae style has practically been perfected in this album. Again, there's a similar feel to the songs, but each song has its little quirks and features that make them stand out from one another. I really have no complaints with this album. It's perfectly paced, it's got a great blend of emotions, and the sound is amazing. This is an essential listen to anyone who is even remotely interested in reggae. I'd even recommend this to people who aren't that interested in reggae just so they can hear how amazing it can be at its peak. Light 5/5.

I absolutely love this album. Always makes me feel good and do my "chair dance"

Amazing and iconic

Really drives home how versatile the standard reggae beat can be. Discusses heavy topics with a comforting confidence and optimism.

Classic reggae from the master of the style. Chilled vibes and rhythms

I have never—not once—listened to a Bob Marley album in its entirety. I felt neutral about his music. I felt it was written for someone else. I was glad that many people found inspiration, hope, and comfort there. Something’s changed. I loved this album. Listened to it and it seems the perfect music to listen to in these troubled times.

Solid album. Better than the Best Of

Now we're talkin'... I love me some Bob! THIS is a Top 1001 album without a doubt. From the slow rhythmic intro of "Natural Mystic" into solid songs like "Guiltiness" (better version on the box set), "Exodus", "Waiting In Vain" & "Turn Your Lights Down Low". All reggae gems in their own right, but then you throw in classics like "Jamming", "Three Little Birds" and "One Love/People Get Ready" and you have a true masterpiece. Even my 75 yr old parents know the last 3 song I mentioned, my kids know them, they're timeless and always welcome on the radio or at a party. I would have absolutely loved to see Bob in 1977-78 playing all these fresh songs! 6 of his biggest hits on this one release - this is a Top 50 album.

O i know this one.

Whether it's the politics or the hits, an absolute classic!

very good :)

5 stars excellent album

This one was soo good. Been a long time since I heard something this good on the list. Not THE strongest 5 star on my page but still I don’t think there’s a better reggae album coming up. Sounded much better than the last I heard from him. Maybe could’ve skipped the one slow track but all is good. A perfect way to spend 37 minutes

I own this album. I've actually owned every album so far. Exodus is not as good to me as Catch a fire or Natty Dread, but it has many bangers and good heart.

Clearly this is a classic.

I already knew and liked Three Little Bords and Jamming, but Natural Mystic and The Heathen are new favourites. All of the tracks were decent, but those were standouts for me.

Great album. Refreshing to hear a different genre to the usual stuff. Thought Bob did a decent cover of the classic Top Bananas track, "Three Little Birds".

Listened through this a few times and it was good shit mon. I'd heard a few of the tracks before obviously but all the other ones were equally as good. Just an all-round blast of an album. Perfect length too. The Title track was a banger.

I still remember listening to this for the first time when I was 13.

sometimes religious, sometimes lovey-dovey, always smooth sailing with someone like bob marley. this album is nice. very nice, very relaxing... it's the ultimate feel-good reggae album. leave it to bob to write songs about the beauty of love, life, and realizing that everything really will be okay, in the end. let's cherish this life and spend every moment of it grinning from ear to ear.

4.7/5 listened 2x

Bob Marley ate, left no crumbs.

Amazing album

This is peak reggae. I came into this with high expectations and was not disappointed. I can't believe I haven't listened to this sooner. For 37 minutes this flew by quick, every song on this was a treat to listen to. Best - Natural Mystic, So Much Things to Say, Exodus, Jamming, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds, and One Love/People Get Ready Worst - no bad songs 4.75-5.00/5

La magia de los grandes. Canciones que pueden sonar "parecidas" si las escuchas colgadas pero todas juntas hacen un disco del carajo.

Classic

One of my favorite albums

Incredible album. The songs and grooves are so good

Love this album! Turn your lights down low is one of my favorite Bob Marley tunes.

This will always be a timeless album

Deeply meaningful and top notch reggae, none has been better

I'm familiar with who Bob Marley is. I recently saw the One Love movie and liked it. Listening to this album is actually surprisingly good

Coincidentally I watched the Bob Marley biopic this week, so gave a bit of insight into the making of the album. Deserves the title of a classic album. You'll certainly recognise quite a few of the songs 5/5

In a word: Iconic.

Very good album. I really like the tone and the mood of the songs in this album. It’s very unique and upbeat, it’s really fun to listen to. All songs are very interesting and exciting. 9.8/10.

feels like every song of this album is known!! everybody loves this album and this album fucking rules!!

This is like a best hits album almost... but the ones that I don't know are excellent too. There's definitely a formula but I really don't mind in this case.

It's exactly what you imagine Bob Marley music to sound like. I don't listen to much Reggae so I can't really say if it's good but it sounds good to me.

Great album.

This CD is great. The Wailers have a wonderful sound, heavy on bass, keys, rhythm and backing vocals. Between Bob and the strong backup singers they have a lot of voices on here, all of them quite good. And it's just fun, light and breezy. It's a relatively short CD and all of the songs are pretty good, there's nothing obviously weak on here. The back half is better than the front, which I think is the best way to put a record together, end strong. And it really is strong - between "Jamming", "Three Little Birds" and "One Love" the back half is truly loaded. It also generally gets faster and lighter as it goes on - the slowest and darkest songs are "Natural Mystic" and "Exodus", while the last two songs end on an incredible high note. That progression is truly uplifting - like you feel better when you come to conclusion of the CD. There's an amazing universality to Bob's lyrics too. I don't think he uses a word with more than two syllables in it on the entire CD. And it's obviously very religious, religious themes dominate throughout. But that simplicity creates a connection that is just palpable. Everyone will get and everyone will like what Bob's saying. I listened to this a couple times in a row. It's the first CD I've gotten on this list that I hadn't already heard but have no negative things to say about.

It’s the album by which all Reggae is measured. Not a masterpiece, but beautiful work non the less. I appreciate him more as I get older, but unlike a few of my good friends, I won’t spin this daily. Love it.

Once you hit the title track it's just banger after banger after banger. Production is amazing, killer basslines and good vibes. Love it.

not bad but nothing besides that one song really stood out, kind of blended together, didn’t feel very innovative or memorable sorry, i appreciate the sound and why people like it i guess, idk it was kind of boring kind of bland, but there were a couple moments i guess just not enough to really do it for me

I would not have knows as much about this album if it wasn't for the movie that recently came out about Bob. Good stuff man! 5 stars.

Big Bob Marley guy. One of my all time favorites.

5555555555555555555555555/5 Bob Marley is always the best. This is perfection.

Loved this! Quintessential Marley. Made me want to see his documentary.

Ah, this is like comfort food. Most biopics suck, but I actually enjoyed seeing One Love: The Bob Marley Story when it came out recently. Not that it was realistic or anything; there’s always a need to take Hollywood level creative license (make shit up) to tell a life’s story in 2 hrs, but it did illustrate the power of these songs, on a political, anthemic level. Rastaman Vibrations is close, but this album is really Marley’s masterpiece for me. Except for one song, “Three Little Birds”: yes, it’s legendary for its simplicity yet engaging melody and lyrics, but I sometimes cringe hearing it. I think it’s partly because I heard it too much when it was one of Addison’s favorite songs (this and Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like an Eagle”; kid has quirky, eclectic taste musical taste which is indeed charming) but we had to hear it damn near daily for six months…😱😱!!! Beyond that, this is always a welcome listen start to finish.

I knew this album would be great. There's hits like the title track and "Three Little Birds". "Exodus" changed reggae and other genres forever. Marley was brilliant and so were the Wailers. I'm glad the album's here on this list. 5 stars for "Exodus".

01) Natural Mystic - 8,5 02) So Much Things to Say - 8,0 03) Guiltiness - 7,5 04) The Heathen - 8,0 05) Exodus - 10,0 06) Jamming - 10,0 07) Waiting in Vain - 10,0 08) Turn Your Lights Down Low - 10,0 09) Three Little Birds - 10,0 10) One Love/People Get Ready - 10,0 TOTAL: 9,20 (92/100) Current ranking: 17/259

hehe been here before. the great marley. 8/10.

Wasn’t Waiting In Vain on this one. I was just Jamming

Ok wauw. FAVO: Natural Mystic, So much things to say, Exodus, Jammin, waiting in vain, Turn your lights down low, Three little birds, One love/People get ready

Arguably THE quintessential reggae record. Marley and his band were not only talented musicians, but extremely passionate about affecting change in Jamaica.

I used to very much dislike Reggae, mostly due to the similar guitar strumming pattern and much of it sounding the same to my untrained ear. However, many years ago, I learned the power of the music and beauty of it. "Exodus" is an obvious classic, with so many amazing songs. The production is great, especially with the latest Deluxe Edition, and the music stands up today as much as it ever did. I haven't listened to enough of Marley's albums, in their entirety, to say this is his greatest album, but from what I know of his songs, this one definitely feels like one of the heaviest hitters. It does make me want to dive into the rest of his albums, though, to decide that for myself.

If you don’t like this music, something is wrong with you.

Fantastic!!

Starkes Album, besonders die Version von Exodus

Alright! Back to album number 1 for me I've been sewing together pieces of this album for the last few weeks, but I finally gave it the full spin that it deserves In terms of hits, I think this is the best reggae album of that i've ever come across. Jammin', waiting in vain, 3 little birds and One Love are essentials in The High School Stoner starter pack (in all seriousness, they blow all of the reggae albums/tracks we've encountered on this list wayyy out of the water -- im looking at you UB40 & Peter Tosh). So much things to say and Turn Your Lights Down Low are honorable mentions.

Loved it, super chilled and totally upbeat

It was so nice to have a chill album for once that also remained interesting. It put me in a really good mood. Would love to dive more into this genre. So many great songs here. Highlights: Natural Mystic So Much Things To Say Three Little Birds One Love

Very chill

A very peaceful listen. My favorite song was Three Little Birds. This encouraged me to listen to more reggae

Always 4 or 5 for me love me some Marley

A lot of classics on this album, but the lesser known songs elicited just as much head-bobbing. Messages of peace, love, protest, and hope. Timeless.

Obviously!

I remember hearing ‘Jamming’ on holiday when I was about 13, and being amazed at how music could sound like this (blew my mind as a kid who’d only really heard British Pop, Motown, and a the odd pop punk song). My Dad told me it was Bob Marley, and for the next 5-10 years or so he became one of my favourite musicians. This record is his best for me. The amount of big hits on this rivals any other record, yet my favourite is the least listened to on Spotify apparently (The Heathen!). A true icon, an incredible record.

Amazing album, much better than the previous Marley album we've had on the list. Feels like a greatest hits album, but it's not! Lots of great tracks: Natural mystic Exodus Waiting in vain Three little birds One love 5

There’s a reason Bob Marley is synonymous with reggae. Absolutely a masterpiece.

I refused to listen to anything reggae for a loooooong time, out of spite for all my reggae loving high school peers who I thought were exemplifying an extremely boring subculture at the time. I came to equate reggae with a sense of drugged out sameness, dipped in smelly pseudo mysticism. But mostly, I was just reacting to bad imitation reggae and to what I perceived as cultural laziness, leaning towards what I suspected to be cultural appropriation. Unfortunately this closed off attitude turned me off from artists like Marley and records like this. This is a straight up masterpiece. Tight musically, sparse but precise, and hopeful.

I love this album, so many boppers on it

If only I was near a body of water yesterday. Bob always reminds me of Lake Powell or the beach. You can’t help but sing along while listening. Love this album

Legendary album that defines what reggae is about. If you listen to any individual part of any of these songs, it will be perfect. Truly a 5 star album.

Is it going to far to call Bob Marley a cultural icon? He manages to represent a country, a religion and a lifestyle across the globe. He spreads a message of peace and love and he does it all on top making some of the most iconic songs of all time. He is taught in school, he is loved by all generations and he is handsome as fuck.

Some of these tracks are so embedded in the cultural ether, it's wild to think they all came on the same album. While I might reach for a different Marley album for most listens, this one is undeniable. We're jammin.

My friends and I have spent many a lazy afternoon jammin' to this album – a classic.

Many hits on this one

O melhor álbum dentro do género musical. Se falar apenas dentro do género, é um 10/10. Considerando que reggae não é o meu género favorito mas gosto na mesma, dou a este álbum 8.5/10

Classic. Hadn't heard this all the way through before

Sunny classic

A must listen for everyone.

Has to be one of their best albums.

I made the claim in a previous review that Exodus was Bob Marley’s best album. Am I sticking with that claim after having relistening to it? Yes. Absolutely. Everything that made Bob Marley a great artist, from his songwriting, to his musicianship, to his fucking voice, is on top notch form here. I don’t think Marley gets as much credit as he deserves as a singer. All of his work is so tied up with his life story, with his religion, and with the weird colonialist attitude that people have had towards Jamaican culture if they have even a passing knowledge of his work, that the actual artisan nature of the a lot of reggae in general, and Marley’s oeuvre specifically seems to have got lost. Exodus shows us what we’re missing. An artist who was not only intensely spiritual, but also very bodily in his sexuality, and even more intense in his political feeling, both of which completely override the hippie vibes that every white college student who has ever put up a poster of Marley because they’ve smoked weed a few times while listening to Three Little Birds has had. Bob Marley was a serious artist, who should be taken more seriously than he is. And Exodus is a high watermark in his excellent legacy

How could you not enjoy Exodus? Sometimes I think reggae is a little monotonous (it's like Blues for me), but Bob just puts a smile on my face. Which was perhaps not really his intention when you think about the lyrical content, but oh well. Fave Tracks: Exodus, Jamming, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds 4.5/5

Great vibes. Not a single miss on the whole album, would definitely listen to any song again.

Excellent

Absolutely fire. Deep and rich

Great! 5/5

Classic

It's great

Classic great album you could listen to over and over

every little thing gonna be alright

Iconic.

I could listen to this on repeat all day. Beautiful lyrics, iconic singing, and of course the Wailers holding it down.

excelete

How can you not love this album. Jamin’ alone makes it 5 star.

Already knows and listened earlier

Love a bit of Bob Marley. This was a really good album!

Great timing, having just watched the movie One Love. It made the well-known songs more layered now that I have better historical, political, and cultural background to the album. It is a work of art.

Bob is obviously the most popular reggae artist that brought it into the mainstream. Many classics on this album like Exodus, Jamming, Waiting In Vain and Three Little Birds.

Absolute top van de top voor mij. Vooral laatste zes nummers geniaal. Ik heb dit zo ongelofelijk vaak geluisterd met m’n neef terwijl we FIFA 14 speelden

Perfect

Amazing

Flanged vocals! Every song is a classic. I fell in love with this one the first time I heard it, and I spun it three times yesterday!

This might as well be a greatest hits album. Hard to be mad while listening to this album, just very enjoyable cover to cover. 5 stars.

A new classic to me. Can't believe I've never heard this top to bottom.

meh, not my vibe

Some of the best music ever made

Timeless song after timeless song; how can you not feel relaxed after listening to this album. Powerful lyrics, fun melodies, and great words to live by. Everything is gonna be alright

sophomore year of college, Roy turned me on to two things, kind bud and Bob Marley

If you’re in a good mood this will lift you up. If you’re in a bad mood this will help immensely. Marley was a legend for a reason.

Every song a banger.

Shame he’s dead! 4.5

So much praise for Exodus! It's like THE Reggae album to listen to. Not a bad song among the lot and has most of the classics you know from him. Faves are Waiting In Vain, Natural Mystic, and Exodus.

Skipping class, smoking joints, sunlight

Always powerful. Always love. Quintessential Marley.

Favourite tracks:: exodus; three little birds; jamming; waiting in vain; punk reggae party

Fantastic album. Enjoyed every single song.

Bob Marley is one of those artists who’s really transcendent. Who can listen to this album and not be moved in some way? So many amazing songs that we will collective listen to for decades to come.

Easy answer

Deux albums de qualités d’affilée? Wow, le générateur se surpasse pour une fois. Excellent reggae, excellent rythme, excellentes chansons, j’ai rien à redire

I went through a big reggae phase in my teens, and definitely used to listen to this album on repeat all the time. You know, not much of the stuff I loved at 15 holds up to a relisten now, but this one was actually even better with some more life experience to understand it.

They really said what if all these tracks become the biggest Reggae classics for the rest of time. Seriously though, I think I had previously put down reggae to having the same beat but my presumption almost made me miss an amazing album. It has such a drive to it that really sells the messages it's putting across. The rhythm is punchy and relentless, it keeps the jam going all night. It oozes fun in tracks like Jammin' and sings out a sweetness in tracks like Waiting in Vain. The production really gives the drums a snap and the vocals a lovely verb. You can't help but feel good listening to this music. The albums on such a high note in both message and music. The first side of the album isn't quite as strong as the second which is what bumps it from a 5 but it's still quality stuff. It's hard to fight against some of the most iconic tracks of all time. I went in a little skeptical and come out a lover. Lovely album.

Simply beautiful and Relaxing. Each song feels simple but dense. Bob marleys meoldies are each soothing and make you feel as if worry doesnt exist.

Brillant album

Bob makes you feel like everything’s gonna be alright! No notes!

Come on. It's Bob. It's classic stuff. Pure reggae. Even so, hadn't often heard a lot of the songs on this disc not on the Greatest Hits. Guiltiness and So Much Things to Say. *chef's kiss*

I've heard songs off of this album all over Thailand but have never sat down to give the whole thing a listen. What a joy. I'll be putting this back on. This album is perfect for the beach bar but it is more than that as well.

Bob Marley & the Wailers - Exodus Such a great album! Recorded after Marley went into exile in London after an assassination attempt. First half of the album focuses on Religious politics and the second half has themes of making love and keeping faith. So many great songs on this album and it culminates with Three Little Birds and One Love! 5/5

Beautiful album, with a ton of top-tier classic songs that put me in a really great mood. What more can you ask for?

So glad I listened to this. For as long as I can remember Bob Marley has been background music - at shops and cafes - but never something I’ve sought out and played. Deeply soulful and positive. Loved it.

I did not realize how many great songs were on this album. All of it- just lovely

This is one of those albums that absolutely transcends genre. I'm very lukewarm on Raggae. I don't hate it but I rarely love it. This album is positively electric with meaning. Marley came into the studio with something deep and meaningful to say and put his thumbprint on the universe. It's raw without being aggressive and spiritual without being preachy or vapid. Easy 5 star record.

Loved it <3

muy buenooo

Probably Bob Marley's best, I gained much more appreciation for this album after seeing that Bob Marley movie that released earlier this year. Also, being high helps tremendously for an album like this. Just a perfect pairing really. I have no complaints about this record, all great songs here

Legendary

Made me very sleepy, which is a good thing. Soothing, comforting

Un classico senza tempo. 5* facili facili.

Best Song: One love Vibes: happy, invigorated, chilling, Themes: cultural history, struggle

From “Natural Mystic” onwards, this is a mighty album, capped by the soaring title track. Life, love, liberation: it’s all here. Magnificent.

A classic masterpiece. If you can't enjoy this do you even like music?

the archetypal reggae sound, totally iconic and fresh sounding

Great album

For the eponymous track alone, it’s a five

Traditional good old fashioned Bob Marley

One of the best albums of all time!

Exceptional album that has not aged at all

Terrific!

Can't believed all these songs are on one album.

Facirite

Great album! I love the message and the feeling of the album, Bob Marley always puts me in a good mood.My new favorite song besides the really popular ones may be “So Much Things To Say” I also really enjoyed the perfectly timed guitar solos on this record.

Doesn’t get better than some marley

Wow - so many great songs I’ve never heard. “So much things to say” is definitely going to be a regular on my reggae playlists. I don’t think I can rate this album for less than 5 stars.

Forget great album, this is an absolute top work of art, a rare 10/10.

Massive, monster of an album, one of the best records of the 70s. one of those albums you could teach an entire course on. Even better on versions that include the non-album single Punky Reggae Party

Not much to be said about this one...I mean everyone loves it for a reason. While I do prefer other albums, this is the one that is the most consistent. 9.5/10

Bob Marley was nothing short of an epiphany and a revolution for white music listeners. I'm not sure his genius has been matched since he died.

Very passive but that shit had me 🥵🤯🤰🏽🌱🌿☘️🍀🪵🌴🍃 had me twerkin. mi papa thought I was smoking weed while I listened and walked in the room all confused to why I was listening to Bob Marley and asked me if I was okay. needless to say the album was great and very relaxing as well as having good lyrics to sing to as soon as you start hearing each song

🦜🦤🐦‍⬛

ete broer era un genio musical, un mariwano y un woman beater. just like my bro oink oink delights 10/10

Solid tracks from front to back. Consistently good vibes.

Such a beautiful and laid back album. Hope set to song.

This is pretty fire ngl Amazing. Either 4 or a 5 pretty easily Fuck it 5. We may be due for a recalibration due to some high scores recently but this is better than the 4s I just got. Of course a lot of these songs are overplayed to an insane degree, but if we’re objective it’s because they are great. When 3 birds is probably the worst song u know you cooked

Excellent as expected.

I'm not the biggest reggae fan in the world, and my first reaction to this was significant disappointment that I got two reggae albums in three days. This started ok, "Natural Mystic" is a decent first song and then it has a few fine songs after. I was somewhat favorable to the album at the halfway point, but no strong feelings. The first half is a little more "religion" themed, which is fine but not as much my thing. The back half of this album is just pretty much perfect though. It's basically song after song of what reggae is at it's best. It's laid back and mellow with relatable lyrics, it's just good to vibe to. I highly doubt that I'm going to like another reggae album as much as this, this is getting a 5 and I don't think that will happen again. It's mostly "love" songs on the back half, and just consistently hits. "Three Little Birds", "Jamming", "One Love", just hit after hit. I don't have much to say, but this was really great. It's not my genre at all, but it's awesome and I get why people are into it. Favorite song: Three Little Birds Other: Natural Mystic, Exodus, Jamming, Waiting In Vain, Turn Your Lights Down Low, One Love / People Get Ready 2/6/24

awesome

His best album.

I knew a lot of songs on this album, it listening through the whole thing together and reading about the history made it so much more meaningful.

his best one

Exodus is just a delightful album that combines a mature and very musical Bob Marley, with great arrangements, cool lyrics and intoxicating reggae. It's 5, for sure.

Wonderful! Enjoyed it all.

Worship protest music calling for unity and peace. I get it now.

A no brainer of a 5 star rating. Love this album, especially the ‘B Side’. Doesn’t matter what mood I’m in, this album just hits the spot. Beautiful.

Contrary to popular belief the reggae sun doesn't rise and set over Bob's ass no matter what the trust-fund rebel Chris Blackwell might lead you to believe. This is, however, a great album.

Another all-time legendary album. Last six songs are all certified bangers, Bob Marley clearly just nailing that transition into a legendary songwriter from a great reggae artist. Bonus edition included Punky Reggae Party, which is something a bit different and top quality.

Discazo.

I saw him in Dortmund!!!!! Mega!!!!! UNFORGETABLE***!

I owe Bob Marley, The Wailers, and the entire reggae genre an apology. I was not familiar with their game.

I've been waiting for this recommendation. Reggae speaks to me in a way I never thought possible. This is a fantastic record, hard not to bob your head along with it.

Muchos exitos en un solo album. Suena a mi infancia esto

Makes me want to go to the beach sipping on a drink with an umbrella in it.

Brilliant! Classic! I'd write more but I'm in a hurry to get to my next album.

Love this

Great, great album.

Album: Exodus Artist: Bob Marley Year: 1977 Genre: Reggae Number on list: 377 Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love Bob Marley, he’s definitely one of those artists that are on my high rotation, and definitely my soundtrack for summer. Such a relaxing vibe, definitely one to take to the beach! Fave Song: Three Little Birds Would I listen again? Absolutely

love it

Fantastic. Some of my all time favorites. Like Turn Your Lights Down Low

Previous Familiarity: High-ish. Definitely heard, and loved, most of these songs, but not in the context of the album. This is the quintessential reggae album. Nearly every song is well known and outstanding. The passion and soul in the songwriting and vocal performances are the reason Bob Marley was a legend. The deep-soul horn section and island-breeze rhythm section of the Wailers make rewarding listening for the keen ear, adding flourishes and funk to elevate above the standard reggae stroll. A no-doubt classic.

So good. If you don’t have a compilation album on hand it has the greatest hits. Jammin waiting in vain one love punky reggae…

Classic!!

This album and any album by Bob Marley will always be a 10/10. (Unrelated to the album but an ad for Sandal Resorts came on with “One Love” playing in the background. What are the odds of that?) 10/10

The best religious album ever created. The icon himself, the face of reggae, the inspiration to the hundreds of white reggae bands that try to emulate his greatness. It’s reggae but it doesn’t fall into the trope of stoner music, it’s just so satisfying and smooth to listen to. This album has most of Marley’s biggest hits as well as some other not as well known songs. Another album that I have listened to hundreds of times and it’s still as good as it’s ever been. 10/10

Outstanding

To almost be killed by the hands of her oppressors and be exiled to whole other country for safety and a peace of mind just to come back and drop THIS. Legendary in its own right. This was a means of music therapy for Bob Marley. You can almost heal him coming to terms with his own healing through prospectives of religion black ideologies. As a black person myself, it raises questions and makes me interested to check them out. I thank Bob for being as vulnerable as he could with this one and it really elevated the power of what reggae had to offer. True classic. 5 out of 5 stars. NO QUESTION.

Relaxing, and excelent

5 Star classic. Hit after hit after hit. Deserves the reputation it has.

Can't wait to see the see the new movie with his backstory!

Before I listened to Exodus, I heard one of their Live Concert albums and wasn't able to pick up the words. I didn't have that problem with Exodus. I enjoyed their music and became very aware of their social activism. I would like to give them more than 5 stars!

Not much to say about this one. Just 100% gold.

hell yeah! Everything you want and need from a Bob Marley album!

The quintessential Bob Marley album. Pretty much everything you want is on there.

Genius

One of the All time great albums, was a lovely revisit after some time. Dig the overall vibe and been listening for years.

Cool vibes

Cooles Album

I've always loved the tenderness in Bob's voice, which comes through no matter what kind of song he's singing, even the protests. And the poetry and inspiration he finds in Old Testament verses resonates with me. Exodus isn't my favorite Wailers album (in part because of the overplayed hits on the back half, which isn't Bob's fault), but I know some critics think it's his best. Regardless, I don't think he ever wrote a bad song (ok maybe Reggae on Broadway), making him the most consistently high-level musician I've encountered. Pick any song off any record, whether it's one of the old raw recordings or the modern polished versions, and it's guaranteed to be good. I don't know how he sang with such emotion, authority, spirituality, and moral clarity at his age. He left behind an amazing body of work that never gets old.

Lyrics: Pros: Poetic Depth: Marley's lyrics in "Exodus" are profoundly poetic, transcending typical reggae themes. Tracks like "Three Little Birds" and "One Love" convey messages of hope, unity, and love, while "Exodus" itself addresses the longing for freedom and escape from oppression. Universal Appeal: The album's lyrics touch on universal themes of love, spirituality, and social justice, making it accessible to a diverse global audience. Marley's ability to convey deep messages in a simple yet profound manner is a testament to his lyrical genius. Cons: Repetition: Some critics argue that Marley's penchant for repetition, common in reggae, can be a drawback. While it serves the genre's rhythmic purposes, it might lead to a sense of predictability for certain listeners. Music: Pros: Infectious Grooves: The album boasts infectious reggae rhythms, characterized by the distinctive offbeat guitar strumming and pulsating bass lines. Songs like "Jamming" and "Waiting in Vain" showcase the band's mastery of creating irresistibly groovy arrangements. Melodic Brilliance: "Exodus" blends reggae with elements of ska, rock, and funk, creating a rich and diverse sonic palette. Marley's melodies, often backed by the harmonious vocals of The Wailers, are catchy and memorable, adding to the album's lasting appeal. Cons: Genre Limitations: While the fusion of genres adds depth, some listeners may find the overall reggae-centric sound limiting. Those less inclined towards reggae might feel the album lacks variety in terms of musical styles. Production: Pros: Island Records Production: The album was produced by Island Records, allowing for top-tier production quality. The mixing by Aston "Family Man" Barrett and Chris Blackwell's guidance contributed to the album's polished sound. Studio Innovation: "Exodus" features innovative studio techniques, such as dub-inspired production elements. The use of reverb, echo, and creative panning enhances the immersive quality of the music, showcasing the studio as an integral instrument. Cons: Simplicity: Some critics argue that the album's production might be overly simplistic, especially when compared to more experimental works in the reggae genre. However, this simplicity aligns with Marley's commitment to accessibility and mass appeal. Themes: Pros: Social and Political Relevance: "Exodus" reflects Marley's commitment to social and political causes. Tracks like "Exodus" and "One Love" advocate for unity and freedom, embodying the spirit of the Rastafari movement and expressing solidarity with the struggles of marginalized communities. Spiritual Depth: The album delves into Marley's spiritual beliefs, notably in tracks like "Natural Mystic" and "One Love," where he explores themes of spirituality, redemption, and the interconnectedness of humanity. Cons: Predictability: Some critics argue that Marley's thematic focus on love, peace, and freedom can be predictable. While these themes resonate with a broad audience, they may lack the nuanced exploration found in more avant-garde works. Influence: Pros: Global Impact: "Exodus" catapulted Bob Marley & The Wailers to global stardom, introducing reggae to mainstream audiences worldwide. The album's success significantly contributed to the international recognition of Jamaican music and culture. Cultural Legacy: The album's influence extends beyond music, contributing to the popularization of Rastafari and reggae fashion. Marley's messages of love and social justice continue to inspire generations, solidifying his status as a cultural icon. Cons: Weight of Expectation: The monumental success of "Exodus" may overshadow other worthy works in Bob Marley's discography. Some argue that this album's dominance could potentially limit appreciation for his broader artistic contributions. Conclusion: "Exodus" stands as a timeless masterpiece that transcends musical genres. Bob Marley & The Wailers' ability to infuse profound messages into catchy reggae beats created an album that remains culturally and politically relevant to this day. While some may find aspects of predictability or simplicity, these characteristics contribute to the album's accessibility and mass appeal. "Exodus" not only defined a genre but also elevated Bob Marley to the status of a global icon. Its influence on subsequent generations of musicians, its impact on reggae's global recognition, and its enduring relevance make it a cornerstone in the history of popular music. In the end, "Exodus" is not merely an album; it is a cultural landmark that continues to inspire and resonate with people across the world.

Classic one

Bob Marley is one of the all time greats and this is one of their best albums. That second side is just so good. Everything is so easy to like.

This is an absolutely awesome album, which I have listened to so many times. The first four songs are a seamless zone of next level music - so good - culminating in fifth track, Exodus, the showpiece. (I hadn't ever realised quite how good Exodus was as a song until I saw the Bob Marley Revival band play it live.) The rest of the album after that has several classic singalong tunes and is more radio-friendly. I always feel that "Turn Your Lights Down Low" is weaker than the others and that the soul style doesn't quite work; maybe it's the production. But I know people who love that track. Overall, it's an incredible album. So good, always has been, still amazing... really has something to say, and what a way to say it.

Always fall into a relaxed trance listening to Bob Marley.

Peak performance by the group and the work that solidified their legacy.

A really tight set of jams with spiritual lyrics.

3 bangers

Great album. I used to run to a Bob Marley play list. Stopped running in 2018 when the doctor told me I needed anew knee. Hearing Three Little Birds brought back great memories. Also made me think of Hawaii and the movie 50 First Dates

A true masterpiece. Real classics, no filler on this one.

This is the slimmest margin 5 I have given thus far, but I think it makes it over the hump. The second half of the record is a bunch of amazing singles that Bob Marley is known for all over the world and the record not only sounds great (produced super well) but also /feels/ great. I'm a tiny bit surprised to be giving a 5 here but it's a nice surprise!

No skips! Total classic.

I didn’t think much of the first half of this album….and then the second half dropped. Whoa. That’s what comes of surviving an assassination attempt, eh?

God I really wish I had some green. Fantastic album. Every song is a classic. Can never go wrong with some Bob.

Super solid, not a bad song in the bunch

Takes me back! I will always love me some Bob.

Classic but never gets old

I like this album

this is a 5 star album for me ez

One of a very few perfect albums, every song is a classic and if you hate Marley and the Wailers you're a cop

Certified banger. 10/10 groove, inspiring rhythm section arrangements

I liked it. It was nice to listen to it while laying on the beach.

This album is legendary. I just wish I was sitting on the beach and not at my desk.

I mean it’s Bob Marley, what do you expect? Incredible.

The perfect artist to smoke a joint to. Something about his beats makes you just want to keep listening. I’m not one to listen to reggae too often, but this makes me just want to get into it.

I have known songs from this album and have a listen to them before. But honestly the entire album is a bop. I liked the song, guiltiness, and jamming is just so fun to listen to. You can’t find one person that hates bob marley if they haven’t given this album a try

Classic

Nice and chill

From the fade-in on natural mystic, the deep hypnotic bass groove carries this album everywhere it goes, leaving ample room for funky electric piano, soulful horns, guitar stabs and solos, lively percussion, pitch perfect harmonies from the backup singers, and, obviously, an all-time vocal performance from BM. The album is full of inspired interplay and joyful back and forth between the musicians/singers, all feeding each other and running with each other's ideas creating endless layers of rhythm and melody. I could live without hearing jamming ever again, but the rest of this is a genre reaching its zenith.

Didn’t realize so many hits on this album. Read on Wiki the most songs in his greatest hits come from this. 5 singles.

This music can speak to anyone’s soul. Gives me the feelings of serenity, compassion, and hope.

OMFG I LOVE THIS ALBUM.... THIS WAS MY CHILDHOOD. i listened to bob so much i had a huge poster of him in my room when i was a kid lmaooooo

As easy as a 5 as there is

This album really my little sense to me. I felt Marley's pain , his acute sense of loss, the sentiment of a man who was trying to see the best in the world despite being in a very dark space. Of the albums of listened to so far, I've turned off most of them. This one? Back to back. A true talent and a masterpiece of an album

Album mythique

This cured my anxiety 10/10

Really enjoyable

Jamming should be the definition, why a jam‘s called a jam

Best song - One Love/People Get Ready

An exceptional album. So many good songs. I've felt for a long time that one of Bob Marley's strengths was that he was a fantastic song writer.

Yes!! Never listened to a whole Marley album before. Feel good jams

Many hits on album, three little birds, jammin, one love. Mixture of religious themes and an heroic outward looking positivity. Prophetic with eternal themes such as the lure iniquity for short term pleasures. I can understand Bob Marley's place as an icon of peace and a force for good after listening. This music must been a salvation for alot of people in many of dark places, most of all probably Bob Marley himself. Dont eat the bread of sorrow, buy exodus today!

Dude! Listening to this in a blanket fort and lighting up was purely iconic! I may be bias due to my set up but I absolutely loved this album. It’s one I will keep in my rotation of albums I listen to.

i already know this album and its great. reggae is good

Súper agradable !! Y eso que no soy fan de marley

Chill throughout

Super iconic album that flows well! Jamming 12” version was my fave song

really good, very laid back with three amazing tracks. It’s a 4.5 because there’s some not memorable tracks but it’s still a 5z

3 Little Birds is easily one of the top 20 songs for me.

a classic from beginning to end

Great album with some timeless classics on there.

Exodus is excellent. In other news, water is still wet and Snoop smokes trees. All worries lift away during Two Little Birds

My favourite Marley & The Wailers album. All killer, no filler. Kick back in the sunshine with a six pack of Red Stripe and enjoy.

Forget going to therapy, I think listening to this album front to back during one of my depressive episodes could cure me more than any Lexapro or Zoloft could! Fav Songs: Natural Mystic, The Heathen, Exodus, Three Little Birds, One Love/People Get Ready Least: honestly, none

I was listening to this in the office when I got an email that startled, confused, and panicked me a little. Right at that moment, Mr. Marley was singing about not worrying about a thing, and it turned out that every little thing was, indeed, alright. This album is perfect.
