Great album
This is a fantastic album. As cliche as songs like Jammin and Three Little Birds have become, the fit perfectly with the overall intent of the album, life as an exhile that you turn into your land. You've got love songs like Turn Your Lights Down Low and Waiting In Vain (which might be my favorite on the album). The energy from The Heathen to Exodus is incredible transitioning to Jammin, one of the best middle of an album in history IMO. Don't get me started with Natural Mystic, the perfect begginig to a perfect album, mood setter and starting point for anything you do in life. Protest songs like So Much Things to Say and Guiltiness. This is a basic starting point in any musical journey and an easy one to get lost in for a long time.
A classic/essential reggae album Rating: 9/10 Favorite Song: Exodus
An exceptional album, there is so much here to like
So... last Bob Marley I said I prefer old Ska and would rather listen to Toots & The Maytals. I have to say that currently I have been listening to more Dub and Rock Steady, so the timing of this album popping up is going to yield a higher rating than a few months ago, but yes, it is a damn good reggae album (glad to divert from his hits).
Jesus what an album, you absolutely cannot understate Bob Marley’s influence not just on music but on the world as a whole.
BUENISIMO, lleno de clasicos 5/5
Pinnacle of a genre
An absolute classic. Bob Marley weaves in themes of spirituality and sensuality throughout the album. While this is a reggae album it incorporates aspects of different genres throughout
Is great
Every song is great, a perfect album.
Too many bangers to not call it a 5
Fucking awesome, I truly found god
Awesome!
It's Exodus by Bob Marley: it is what has been defined in pop culutre as "objectively good" music. Bob Marley
Amazing album front to back. Listened to it twice.
Fantastic album, never a weak choice. By the way, I see that one of the best live albums of all time, Babylon By Bus, is not in this generator. Thats a damn shame! Bob & The Wailers were wonderful live musicians.
This album and ‘Uprising’ were my introduction to reggae in the 1970s. This album in particular captures the many sides of Marley, lover, revolutionary, mystic, peacemaker, and lover of jah. Exquisite. 5 stars. Fave - one love.
Boy do I love me some Bob Marley. Such an easy listen. All the songs are great and they're already featured on my personal playlists.
I love Bob Marley, genuinely beautiful
Easiest 5 so far. Absolute perfection
One of thee best albums of all time.
Incredible raggae album. So many tasty rhythms. What an absolute vibe of an album we got here.
Really excellent reggae, with a great variety of brass, guitar, and piano providing various blends of blues, jazz, and rock to songs throughout the album. I enjoyed the contrasting halves of the album in which the first group of songs feature themes of traditional religious and political struggles, while the second half is more upbeat and happy. Of course, Marley's vocals are always on point and underscore the emotions carried by the theme of each song. Altogether, this album is exemplary of Marley's talent in blending the sounds of popular western influences with more traditional reggae.
Hard to not feel happy listening to this. I just want to be out at the beach somewhere, enjoying a drink and the breeze. 5/5
Me encanta, en mi opinion de mis discos favoritos.
Super summery and wholesome? Makes me feel like life is good all the time.
Love this - low 5
The first half of Exodus is perfect roots reggae, and the second half is perfect pop reggae. It works.
Some outright stand alone classic songs that anyone of them could make the entire album immortal. Groove makers and body shakers get crowds moving. Passion and courage distilled into song for humanity’s treasure
Yeah, this is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard. I have heard it hundreds of times because it is one of Ariel's favourite albums and its all her Dad listens to, but this was my first listen in headphones and it is GORGEOUS. Perfect 5
Classic
As an almost middle aged dad, one of my real moments of zen this time of year is spending a few hours every weekend cutting grass. Throw on some Bob Marley while doing it and that is peak zen right there. This album fits that mood perfectly. “Jamming,” “Three Little Birds,” and “One Love” were good as always, but “Waiting in Vain” was probably the one that stood out most this time. It had been a while since I listened to all of Exodus straight through, and that song was way better than I remembered. Great love song.
Excellent
Good music
Classico classique. Plusieurs Hit plus que connu, étonnant pour du reggae.
easiest 5 stars ever. i audibly gasped when the album was revealed. one of my favs oat
Side two of this album may be the greatest side of any album in the history of music and I don't think that' an overstatement.
Exodus is a brilliant album. It is Marley's magnum opus. There is a heart and a beauty to this album that is good for the soul
Best Song: Three Little Birds Is this Marley's best album? Maybe. When you have so many good albums you can't pick one that is the best, that is a great career! The back half could easily be considered a Bob Marley greatest hits compilation. 5/5.
Really great album. Even the songs that aren’t the ones we all know and listen to often (Three Little Birds, One Love, Waiting in Vain) are a great listen. (5)
A great album that invokes smiles and happiness. A joy to listen to
I am absolutely Jammin' with this album. Every little thing is gonna be alright, so people get ready for some Punky Reggae!
Classic
This one is classic. Raggae done well.
Love Bob and the message he was sending - One Love!
Classic af, UHQR
Impossible to hate this. Some iconic songs that I already knew and other excellent tracks throughout that I didn’t know. I’m not gonna listen to reggae all the time obviously, but it has its place, and it’s hard to top this.
Yeah this album is so fucking good. This is the absolute pinnacle of reggae and the album that introduced me to the genre. You got your social commentary, your spirituality, your party tunes, everything all at once.
Sometimes I think God sends down profits very rarely, but I think occasionally he sends somebody down to try us try and show us the light try and guide us down the path. Johnny Cash is one and I believe Bob Marley is another.
Was listening to this in the car and was a bit underwhelmed thinking it was a little pedestrian. Listening to it again (and again) on my hifi and can fully appreciate the warmth of the record (especially when weather is so foul).
A fantastic album. Might not be the best example of reggae. Might be the case that Bob Marley is over hyped by white teenagers trying to be cool and middle aged mums /moms on a beach holiday. Either way, several absolute classics on the album and a great listen
I grew up listening to this album thanks to my mum. 5/5
If you ain't jammin to this you have no soul.
No skip. Il est génial. Plein de morceaux connu et on comprend pourquoi.
This album is the best of its genre, IMO. if you don't like it, you won't like reggae. I love it, such a great album.
I’ve grown out of reggae but credit where credits due, this has many great tracks
I really like the album . it really made me realise just how much excellence we have as black people and how we made our own sound . this album really made me tap a lot into community , bob Marley and Jamaican people are really deep into being together and being with one another . not to mention just how relaxing and regulating the beats and sounds are, beautiful production . this definitely grew my character and opened up sooo much space for beauty in it . its a staple in my home and a 10/10 anyday .
Undeniable album. Elite synergy between the band & Bob. The chords won't quit and it feels like he's at his best on this album. So many hits. Highlights: The whole thing is smooth, but the back half has all the goodies. One that doesn't get enough attention tho is the title track, Exodus.
What a wonderful, wonderful record. Loved it all the way through. Nothing wasted, lots of feel good chill out tunes and what a voice. Full marks.
Great album. I never listened to reggae before, but it's actually really good. Loved the mood during the whole album and overall message.
Inextricably linked to drinking beer by the river in the summertime without a care in the world. Limitless possibilities. Legend was my jam but this has about 75% overlap. Instant mood elevation.
Very consistent, interesting all the way through, not a bad song 5/5
Enjoyable reggae and you can never go wrong with 3 little birds! 🥰
The back half of this album is an incredible run, kicked off by Exodus and that absolutely filthy bass riff. Highly recommend giving the Deluxe Edition a listen or else you're going to miss Punky Reggae Party, which is basically Marley shouting out the same London/Roxy punk scene that gave us the Slits record from last week. He was a massive influence on those bands, The Clash chief among them, and the track is a fun little time capsule of that crossover moment. Beyond Punky Reggae though, the Deluxe also has some alternate versions I prefer to the originals, and the live cuts of So Much Things To Say and Exodus are a nice treat. If you like to get a mild buzz going and blast live music in your living room, much to the chagrin of your family, the "Live at the Rainbow" concert film is worth a watch https://youtu.be/bLkfzVSp49c?si=bySlBoKPw16fJvbK Favorite tracks: So Much Things to Say, Exodus, Jamming, Waiting in Vain, Three Little Birds, One Love, Punky Reggae Party.
Even my kids enjoyed this album.
I'm ja ja ja jammin, jammin, jammin! Such a feel good album, with a couple mega monster hits to top this thing off. Honestly the front half was my favorite part, the songs I was less familiar with. The Heathen, Exodus, and Jamming are so so so good. Light one up for Mr. Marley!
OMG One of my desert island discs. Love love love.
The perfect reggae album by the masters. Every song uplifting in a sad way, full of life and suffering. From front to back, one of the best records out there
This earns a 5 for being the best of its class.
One of those entries that are just guaranteed to make your day better. I feel like listening to this every day. Great stuff.
Just superb to be quite very honest with you. I really like how it moves from the overtly and righteously political in the first half to the personal and spiritual in the second half, all without reducing the sense of flow and one-ness that it has. There are so many highlights in here - the title track, Jamming, One Love, Three Little Birds of course, and Waiting In Vain above all. He's just a consummate and brilliant songwriter, person and performer.
Love it!
ALL TIMER never disappoints
This is it
Its great how this album kinda builds. Some of my favorite songs from Bob on here.
Listened to this sitting on the beach. A stonking album, great song follows great song.
Reggae tends not to be great but always good; that doesn't apply to Bob Marley though.
The more it plays, the better it gets. Some classic tracks, tight production. 5*
Hell yeah. Got contact high. Reggae so often is a self-derivative genre, with the same three chords and beat for the past 80 years, with the only changing element of who's singing it. Versioning and all that. No wonder Bob Marley is the pre-eminent reggae artist. He makes every song here unique and catchy, with social and political commentary, and great messaging. Such a vibe.
el mejor disco de regge dela historia, mejor tema jamming sin duda
Goddamn the amount of hits off this album. The fact it ends with two of his most recognizable songs, and the fact that the rest of the album lives up ti it's hits, is incredible. I could listen to this over and over again. It's incredible.
CLASSIC on ne peut pas aimer
I mean c'mon, its a classic for a reason. I loved listening to this, just instantly relaxing and chill. Deep lyrics, incredible Marley vocals. You think its done and then you get three little birds and it elevates the whole piece. The only improvement is I should have gotten high before listening to it.
Loved a bit of reggae
So good! Never sat down with the classic- I have a new appreciation
A magical album that captivates and transports you; each song is a journey through reggae culture.
One of the greatest albums - no skips.
Love this album, so many great songs. It's crazy to think of all the hits he got out of this one.
The godfather of reggae music still thrills me to this day. Outstanding and upbeat album that will stand the test of time.
Probably his most iconic album due to hosting "Jamming", "Three Little Birds" and "One Love", this is Bob Marley at peak fame and for good reason. I can only imagine how many future artists he inspired with his non-aggressive and love filled tracks; you can fight against something oppressive without playing the same game. My listen did focus on every other track outside of the three mentioned above and I was not disappointed. How did I miss this album... it is remarkable. Straight from the beginning with "Natural Mystic" with it's thumping bass and earthly message in Marley's calming vocals, I was swept away. "Guiltiness", "Exodus", "Waiting in Vain" and "Turn your lights down low" were also all incredible for that same deep bass and vocals. Was a 4, but has climbed to a 5 for me. RIP to a legend.
Amazing
5 Amazing from start to finish
One of his best. Three Little Birds means the world to me.
Sick
Very relaxing 😎
One of the best albuns for sure!
Nydelig!
A peaceful collection that holds more power today than ever before.
Great album many good songs.
Beginning is sooooo good and fun. Middle was the same this has been amazing. Omg literally 10/10 album no skips the ending is so upbeat but his voice is so powerful Favorite: jamming Least: the heathen
Awesome record !! Everything on this album is good
Is this copy machine a Bob Marley fan? Cuz it sure is good at Jammin. (that's an old copy shop joke). I like reggae music. it's a genre that I've only scratched the surface with. I'd like to explore other reggae artists but Bob is the most popular. This is good stuff. I dig it. Exodus is going on my Cardio playlist. (Edit. bumping this to a 5 after a few more listens.)
Not loving this album would be a crime. It’s peak art. I find Bob Marley albums to be interchangeable so this could be any of them and I’d glow like the sun. Vibey and politically on point paired with lighting up a big fat doob, he truly was and still is dangerous to the powers that be. 5/5
I love the vibes of reggae. It's got soul and depth and spirituality and political protesting … and also makes perfect island music. A lot of it does get samesy feeling, but Bob Marley is the GOAT and this is a fantastic album with some of his best songs. Also brings back fond memories of being in Jamaica. One love, mon.
Loved it!
mellow & chill, takes me back to Jamaica vacations.
Too to bottom, such a chill vibe.
Not the only 5 star album by Bob but certainly worthy of this list. 5 of the 10 songs here would end up on the Legend compilation.
Very nice
Such a good vibes album. He can take you away from where you are so easily. Smooth strong lyrics
Legend. And rightly so.
I now get why Bob Marley is so famous, this album is lovely. Granted I am a reggae fan, although I never listen to BM, I think his music is totally overplayed, but hearing all these classics together on one album, I understand why he is considered such a legend
Time named this the best album of the 20th century. I'm not gonna argue with that. Marley is one of the greatest of all time and this is easily in the top 50 albums of this whole project. I've always felt an instant distrust for people who tell me they don't like reggae. This music is scientifically proven to make you feel better.
Perfect.
te amoo bob marley🫶🏻😭discazoo devoraste crack
Todos temones, igual tmb me influye qe da mucha nostalgia de 2020
I listened to Natty Dread a couple weeks ago and was not really impressed with that album. This album was different. Every song really hit, and it just felt so much more vibrant. The singles from the album came towards the end of the album, which I feel like isn’t normal, but it worked because the other songs I never heard before were almost just as good. When I listen to Bob Marley again, it will be Exodus.
End to end a great album full of bangers and good vibes. Not sure there is a single skip on the album in my mind. Every beat is catchy and reminds me of sitting on the beach in Mexico.
Just straight classics all the way through. Can’t find anything to dislike about this.
One of my favorite Marley albums.
The best Bob Marley album
Lovely intro song. Very chill.
10/10, what else is there to say.
I’ve grown to appreciate and enjoy Bob Marley’s stuff much more the more I learn it’s not just stuff for stoners.
frankly shocked but this is a huge 5 for me
Classic prachtig album. Het pakt een genre en blijft erbij, pretendeert niet iets anders te zijn dan wat het is. Als je zoiets wil luisteren, this is it
Just fantastic
Beautiful albas, awesome reggae shi ir labai gražūs back/supportive vokalai
Absolut classique
Considering this is one of my favorite albums from childhood and 'Waiting in Vain' is one of my favorite songs of all time, it would be criminal to award this record with fewer than five stars. Although it has been years since I've heard the full album in its entirety, it still retains the magical charm that I remember from youth. A timeless message that means just as much in the 2020s as it did in the 1970s.
I didn't get Natty Dread, and during this first listen, I wasn't sure if I was going to get this one either. Lo and behold, this record's second side came in blazing with Jamming and ended strongly after that. My initial thoughts were then reduced to "I must only enjoy the hits", but a second try was warranted. On my second listen, side one began to click. Together with side two, the album felt more complete and my rating grew. But now the question was: Is this a 5/5? So I took a third listen and, ok shut up already...this is great. The stylings of reggae heard on Natty Dread might not be what I'm looking for in that kind of music, but that gets patched up with Exodus. Exodus is Bob Marley and the Wailers at a complete peak with their songwriting; that second side shows up and shows out. It all comes together so well with every listen and I'm happy that I get to admit myself as another believer in the spirit and music of the honorable Robert "Bob" Nesta Marley (9/10, 5/5 on this scale)
Don't worry about a thing. Cause every little thing is going to be alright.
I bask in this.
Very surprised by how much I like this as I'm not keen on reggae but I love the mellow tones, his voice is fantastic. I found myself getting really lost in the vibes.
somehow i grew up with a good bit of this one around the house or in the car. fantastic album. Standouts: turn your lights down low exodus natural mystic
Love this album its a classic heard majority of it already. No more words needed.
Lovely, beautiful album. What a body of work.
Awesome album almost perfect imo. Guiltiness is probably the only song that is below the average and maybe Turn Your Lights Down Low but I still like the slow relaxed feel to that tune. So many tunes on it as well that you can stick on any time its sunny. Less of a rough sound than catch a fire but kinda in a good way.
A solid album that empowers the soul
Amazing quality start to finish
This is a masterclass of rhythm. Music you can dance to that is played well with .meaningful lyrics. What more could you ask for? Liked Songs Added: Natural Mystic So Much Things To Say Exodus Jamming Waiting In Vain Three Little Birds One Love/People Get Ready Punky Reggae Party
yes
In all honestly I used to think this was a Greatest Hits album but realizing it's a studio album makes it all the better. An artist I used to like musically, it's nice to come back to Marley's work when I'm able to appreciate the music and message more clearly. Technically it sounds incredible and I'd expect nothing less from The Wailers. I'll definitely revisit the London live album this week too.
An absolute worldie Being recommended to listen to things like this is why I started the Album Generator. Belting. An easy five stars
Jamming
That was perfect
THEE all time reggae album! The front half is such a juggernaut of slow build energy that the second half can almost seem kind of weak in comparison. But, don’t be fooled! The second half is killer too, it’s just a different vibe as if he talked out the political and religious struggles to a loved one, took comfort in that, and comes out more positive in his aspirations in the end.
I wish we had Bob around for a lot longer.
Can there be a better album that hits the political commentary edge balanced so brilliantly alongside some of the best love songs to be made? Endlessly engaging and beautiful. Masterpiece.
Only knew a few Marley songs. This was great
A lot better than I was expecting. Really pretty
This album rocks
Love this album. It’s feel good from start to end.
Fantastic album and classic! Bob marly and the wailers are such good musicians and they made some timeless classics, this album being one of them!
good
So much more depth than the last album. Absolute masterpiece with amazing musicianship and atmosphere. I was worried for a sec that I actually didn’t like Bob Marley lmao
Really really regae
Such a great album. Would definitely go towards the top of my all time list. Tracks like Jamming and One Love are easily some of my favourite songs of all time. Amazing
Så mange bangers, god stemning, i det hele taget fremragende album.
10/10 - a perfect, classic Reggae album. 99% of people will know at least one song from this album
Such a good listen
If you listen to one Bob Marley album, let it be this one
5/5 Coeso do início ao fim. Seção rítmica e vocais do Bob nunca são menos que impressionantes.
It’s almost a shame that Marley’s legacy has been mostly reduced to every smoke shop’s mascot. Exodus is a powerful album that presents the truth in an understated way. Plus, I doubt you’ll hear many groups on this list as tight as the rhythm section here.
The legend of Marley lives in how groove and message exist in perfect harmony, hypnotic rhythms both grounding and lifting up his heartfelt vision of love and unity with soul-deep power.
Full of rasta belters
This is an all time classic album. Great songs throughout and a huge influence on many artists worldwide to follow. I had never heard this album before yet I knew most of the songs already. Just put this on and enjoy the vibe.
An incredible album. I can’t believe I got suckered into only listening to Legend. This album has a few massive hits and great deep cuts. This turned a rainy January day into a Caribbean paradise.
Such a good listen, my first 5 of the year!
Love it
Echt bijna een best of CD!
1. Natural Mystic - 10 Quintessential reggae. Brilliant lyrics with a deeper meaning and an awesome beat. Fantastic opening track. 2. So Much Things To Say - 6 Verses are enjoyable but the chorus is too repetitive and it's a major come down from the opening track. 3. Guiltiness - 7 A solid reggae track. 4. The Heathen - 8 Short but solid track. Lyrically it's very catchy but a smidge too repetitive. There's an excellent background guitar solo in the 2nd chorus that's absolutely awesome to listen to. 5. Exodus - 10 Perfect jamming reggae. Absolutely brilliant sounds instrumentally the lyrics are intentionally kept light to allow the song so much pace to dance and vibe to. Absolutely excellent. 6. Jamming - 11 Brilliant reggae. An absolute all time classic. I could jam to this all night. 7. Waiting In Vain - 10 Amazing love song. Everything in this track and Jamming are superb. They have awesome background electric guitars mixed with a reggae beat and perfect background vocals to compliment Marley's voice. Just amazing music. 8. Turn Your Lights Down Low - 6 It's an okay love song. Nothing too phenomenal about this track and it's a bit of a pass over on the album. 9. Three Little Birds - 11 An all time classic. Just a short and sweet reggae track with incredible lyrics and an awesome set of instrumentals to match. 10. One Love / People Get Ready - 11 Another all time classic and a fantastic track to end the album. Average Rating: 9.0 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 4.5 Rounded Up: 5 Stars
Y'a rien qui sonne aussi bien. C<est clairement le summun de quelque chose.
Three Little Birds is such a nostalgic song for me. I really enjoy Reggae and Dancehall, so Marley has a special place in my heart as well.
Classic
40 minutes of pure bliss - what a talent, the likes of which we'll never see again
Masterpiece.
Muito bom! Minha favorita foi Wait in vain.
Marley is a natural storyteller and this is just a massively cinematic and atmospheric album. Really excited to keep digging into it.
very good background music to calm the nerves at work
Love this album. For a long time I never realized there was more to reggae than Bob Marley. This one had a huge impact on my my Whole life!
Favourite album
Joyful bangers throughout. Think Catch a Fire remains my favourite, but this is still excellent.
This is a fat 5. Listening laying in bed alone after a work week looking forward to my 3 day weekend. Trump has been re-elected. It scratches every itch. Good lord there’s just something about the refrains, the backing vocals, the reverb, like what hidden planet could have produced such great art? Praise be to Bob Marley and Jamaica as a whole. I don’t even listen to reggae like that but I just might start
You’ll never hear an album so chill. Only good vibes came from that man
This is an iconic album not just a reggae album. It came out at a time (1977) when disco and glam rock were at their height and punk was on the horizon. The music spoke to the times. I was planning to see Bob Marley in 1981 but he passed away at 36 before his tour reached UMass.
I was feeling indifferent about both Bob Marley albums before I played them and was SO into both of them. This guy rocks big time.
For there being only 10 reggae albums on this list it's crazy to get another one so fast. Lotta hits on this jawn 5/5
An extraordinary album that feels like a greatest hits package. Side 1 is a cohesive mix of slinky midtempo reggae jams, whilst side 2 is anthem after anthem
Excellent
It is the middle of January, 2026. This album made me cry. Remembering that this was originally organized to play on an LP record helps understand it. It is in two distinct halves. The first half is "Natural Mystic" through "Exodus". It is fire and anger at oppression and injustice. An ever burning flame that we have to keep fighting. Keep marching. Keep standing up against oppression. Keep moving forward. The second half is "Jammin'" through "One Love / People Get Ready". It is pure love and compassion. That however hard the fight is, we can and must still take time to relax and care for ourselves and for each other. Because only Love will conquer Hate. But that second half is not a different album with a different message. It is the other side of the same fight. Listening to it as a whole, really makes the messages of those songs clear. Take "Jammin'". I used to think how it was just a chill out, smoke some weed, "no worries" kind of song. Not so. It is a call to rest between the hard fights, and the lyrics make that clear: " No bullet could stop us now, we neither beg nor we won't bow Neither can be bought nor sold We all defend the right, Jah-Jah children must unite Oh, life is worth much more than gold " It is not naive to the danger and threat. It just recognizes how vital rest and replenishment is to that struggle. We must embody the good we want to bring into the world. Even "Three Little Birds" is really, "Every little thing is GOING TO BE alright." It isn't now. But it will be if we keep the fire burning against tyranny and oppression, and show love for each other. 6/5 stars.
Was listening to this in the car and was a bit underwhelmed thinking it was a little pedestrian. Listening to it again (and again) on my hifi and can fully appreciate the warmth of the record (especially when weather is so foul).
The Wailers have to take a lot of credit here, as the band sounds superb and the harmonies consistently dilectable. The brass in particular is used excellently, stabbing out hooks that birthed the likes of Groove Armada. The bass is so phat, and ploughs excellent groove after excellent groove. It segues from the superb descending bassline of 'So Much to Say' to 'Guiltiness' without skipping a beat. 'Natural Mystic' a sublime opening track, fantastically laid back, matched by the equable 'Heathen'. The title track must be the centrepiece, 7 epic minutes, like a slowed down 'Papa Was a Rolling Stone', feeling like it embodies the sweep (or movement, or 'exodus') of people. It's even got some Kraftwerk robotics at the five minute mark. Then comes quite the further roll call - the irresistible 'Jammin'' (how does Bob Marley like his doughnuts?); the dreamily longing 'Waiting in Vain' (with a break into the chorus that is absolutely marvelous, and a superb guitar lick), and the sultry 'Turn Your Lights Down Low'. Finishing with 'Three Little Birds' and 'One Love' I had to remind myself that this pairing wasn't a deluxe edition bolt-on. What a finish.
No skips
Three hundred albums into this list before the first reggae comes up. I wonder if there will be any more. Not Marley’s best, but still essential.
Really good groove and undeniably influential. The album has very very strong messages that are always relevant especially now and are delivered perfectly. Great musicianship as well and overall very little wrong with this album if anything. Standouts to me were obviously the big hits "jammin" and "three little birds" but also "waiting in vain" and "so much things to say" I'd give it 4 and a half but there's no half option so I'll round it up to
The wailers were a true fun and talented band, and then you add Bob Marley with some amazing lyrics! Such a great vibe and time in musical culture to experience. This is a must listen for all!
What an album. I can't even count the amount of times I've listened to this fully. It's definitely my most played actual record, with Babylon By Bus as a close second. While that album might have a better feel due to the live recording, Exodus surely has more classic songs on it. The laid back instrumentals combined with Bob Marley's soothing voice and meaningful message make this a great listening experience at any point or place in your life. Ending the album with the 2 best reggae songs in existence is an amazing choice and a joy every time you get to that point.
Made me feel high and like everything would find it's way
Klikkuð plata. Ein af þessum rosalegu. Bob er svo kósý en samt áhrifamikill.
Bob Marley var alveg ótrúlegur meistari. Platan í heild alveg geggjuð. Jammin, Three little birds og One love extra góðir gullmolar og Punky Reggae party algjör snilld.
This is one of those albums that, when I started, I knew must be on this list, and I’ve wondered when it would come up. As someone who rarely listens to reggae, Exodus defines the genre to me. Exodus is what I think of when I think of Bob Marley. So many classics are loaded up on this, it’s unreal. I always think Bob sounds tired at first. He had been shot at and forced to leave home, after all. Then, about mid-album, he brings the power. Exodus fulfills one of my qualifications for a truly excellent album, that is, the B side must be better than or as good as the A side.
This is easily 5 stars for me, probably my favourite Reggae album.
a perfect album. i am a reggae girl at heart
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t like Bob Marley at least a little. And I’m certain I wouldn’t want to. While most everything he did was good, this album is exceptional, even among his wider body of work.
Growing up there was a radio station in N.Y.C call 102.7 WNEW. They had a segment called the Perfect Album Side. In this segment ccasionally they had the Perect Album. This one falls in that category hands down. From the haunting fade in of Natural Mystic to the battle cry Exodus to the anthem of 3 Little Birds...every little thing is gonna be alright. Pure perfection.
Wonderful album, b side probably most stacked ever
Maybe no artist is more associated with their genre than Bob Marley. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or if it has made reggae kind of a static thing where most of it sounds like a Marley cover band. I consider myself a fan but I'm not sure I've listened to any of the albums rather than greatest hits albums of compilations or playlists. So Much Things to Say is a great song, better than some of the singles that came off this album. A three and a half minute Jamming is a shock, I usually only hear the extended version. Turn Your Lights Down Low is another great song, and the version Lauryn Hill did using the original is great too. Three Little Birds is a great pick me up song. It's hard not to smile a little bit when you hear it. It's too bad they turned him into a mascot...I guess he's Jamaica's greatest cultural export...either him or the bobsledders. Great album.
Emotive and atmospheric
Not a genre that I actively listen to much, but one I appreciate a lot. Álbum lindo.
Nice chill vibes, will be listening again in the summer
Obvious 5/5 if only for "Three Little Birds" -- the song that would soothe our newborn any time he was fussy.
Bob Marley is an important part of history and I respect his music, but unfortunately, my parents have ruined any and all reggae or reggae adjacent music for me by playing it CONSTANTLY every time I visit them sooo... Not my fave, but I'm giving it a 5 because I did at one time love this album
Great album
One of my favourite albums of all time. Absolute quality and reaches the depths of my soul 💖
Enligt statistiken är reggae en av de genre jag skyr mest. Konstigt, för det är ju först nu vi får ett album med själfull baktakt. Tydligen har the Police räknats som reggae. Bob måste vände sig i graven. För det här är nått helt annat. Lysande rakt igenom.
Tight band, mäktig körtrio i the i-threes. Titelspåret är mäktig. A-sidan något mörkare. B-sidan; glädjebuskap. Bästa spår, omöjligt att välja. Marleys bästa.
I’ve listened to this album a million times.
There is reggae and then there is Bob Marley and The Wailers. Sometimes an artist transcends from rural poverty into pop culture icon immortality...and usually for good reason! As for this album, this plays more like a greatest hits rather than just a slice of time in a band's history.
I did enjoy the album but I is not my taste of music. But I did like some of the songs. Especially the song today
Honestly, I never really listen to Bob Marley on my own accord. But as I listened to the full album I realized how iconic most of the songs are. They have been in so many movies and have been on the background of my own personal life’s background. It deserves a listen from anyone who appreciates music.
Another banger album from Bob Marley & The Wailers, perfect for this Monday morning as I sat on the couch sipping my coffee.
Great album! Calm and easy listening.
I've never listened to a Wailers album (or pretty much any reggae album full stop) but I was blown away by ~40 minutes of pure bangers (8 of which are on the Liked list).
U2 is to Ireland as Bob Marley is to the Caribbean. What great album. Aston Barrett kills it with simple but effective bass lines. Insightful lyrics and great melodies throughout. The Heathen is the ultimate fight song.
What a beautiful album!
EXCEPTIONAL MUSIC BY EXCELLENT MUSICAL ICONS 🙏🏻👌
What an album! I absolutely love Bob Marley and this is probably his best album. It just makes me feel things. So many good tracks, and to top it off Three Little Birds is one of my all-time favorite songs. I can't say enough good things about Exodus.
love this one
Absurdoooo massa demais!!
never heard this in full, but some of his most popular tracks ever are on here so i know I've at least partially listened to this over the years Natural Mystic - 5/5 So Much Things to Say - 4/5 Guiltiness - 4/5 The Heathen - 4/5 Exodus - 4/5 Jamming - 5/5 Waiting in Vain - 5/5 Turn Your Lights Down Low - 4/5 Three Little Birds - 5/5 One Love / People Get Ready - 5/5 Average score: 4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ not much i can say about this one. it's very good entry-level reggae that i feel just about everyone can enjoy, even if you're not the biggest fan of the genre
This is a great album, plain and simple. I won't pretend I understand what it feels like to live through the political turmoil he endured, the same way I can't ever really identify with 90's New York the way NAS raps about on Illmatic. But the music pulls you in here, just as on Illmatic. Two completely different stories, but both pull you in the same way. Both are super consistent throughout, and beg repeat listens. Biggest Hit - Exodus (though Three Little Birds is my fav Marley song) Miss (if I had to choose one) - Guiltiness Surprise - Natural Mystic
Vibey
The amount of people I see in the reviews for this album saying "I'm not a fan of reggae, but this was great" kind of speaks for itself with this album, so I'm gonna draw attention to something else. The bassist on this record needs some more people talking about him. He's great. I love how bouncy all of his stuff is throughout the album. Bass mention over, now to the music. Great music. It makes me want to find the nearest group of people and make a hand-holding circle and sway around for an hour and a half.
No skips
Bob Marley is the king of reggae. Ive always loved the sound and this album has some of the classic Marley hits plus more.
Bob Marley never misses and this album is no different, it's absolutely brilliant. The bouncing percussion and driving bass lines give such a vibrance that is complemented by the soulful vocals and storytelling throughout. Each song has it's place and it flows beautifully, climaxing with two absolute killer tracks that top off a 5 star album.
Basically a greatest hits record haha.
This wasn’t available through AppleMusic and I had to listen through YouTube- ordinarily the aggravation of that (all the ads) is enough for me to knock a star off the score or in some cases really make me not want to listen at all - but Marley - Exodus - man I could knock 5 stars off and it would still be a 5. Ya mon. Pure gold.
Who doesn’t love Bob Marley?!
Another one I’ve heard before! Great themes. Definitely the best reggae album of all time. Great bass.
An absolute classic
I feel like a big part of the challenge for me with these albums is putting aside preconceptions and just listening to the album in front of you. Anyway. Listening to this with intent felt almost like hearing some of the songs again for the first time and what a cracking album it is. So 5* for that, but also to spite the other reviewer below who keeps using the word political about Bob Marley like that’s a bad thing.
Complete audible serenity
this was fantastic, a perfect summer album
Uplifting beat. Easy to work to. Happy vibes. Familiar with a few songs.
Best album I have ever heard. Haven’t listened to it in its entirety in years.
Full of all-time classics & excellent deep cuts. The world would be a better place if everyone just put this on & chilled out.
This is the first album I listened to when I got into reggae, so it has a special place in my heart. I would say even with bias aside, it is still phenomenal. Short enough to not feel repetitive and has enough variety to feel new and fresh.
Starts a bit slow and then gets better and better
Don't worry.
Technically, I'd say this was a 5/5 album- excellent instrumentation, feel-good songs from start to finish, thoughtful composition and detail. Unfortunately for me, the Rastafarian ideology which so much of the album is centered around is fundamentally incompatible with biblical teaching and my own Christian belief-all that to say, I don't think I'll be returning to most of the songs here. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed my first listen through!
Album review 014 Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailer (1977) Rating 5/5 I’ve listened to Exodus more time than I’d care to guess. No lengthy review or detail needed beyond saying this is a 5/5 album and one of the best ever recorded.
Easiest 5 I have given so far. Production levels are just unbelievable. Then after 15 minutes or so you just get wall to wall banger. What's not to love?
Surprisingly good listen as coming from someone who does not listen to this type of music. Instantly want to learn jamming on my bass
Classic jams
This was the first time I have listened to Bob Marley without irritating, and often pretentious, people wanting to skin up a joint and and speak in a mock Jamaican accent, while pulling out their Bob Marley Greatest Hits. This album is great music, which I look forward to enjoying listening to in the future.
I can listen to this album anytime and it makes me feel goooood.
No skips, really.
I remember listening to this in high school. It's such a warm and lovely album. Makes you feel happy and hopeful!
you can't reggae much more than that
What a great album! So influential and a real staple where I'm from. Kill all white people
Bi-ba-boby und sini gang. 12 lieder und mind. 10 banger tracks, was söll mir na meh sege ... Es paar super famous, aber halt au es paar eifach gueti eher unbekannt wo kicked. Alles immer begleited mit em ne ska/dub bass wo eim s fuessglenk fast verrenkt, oder mindestens d söcklis vo de füess riesst. Demenstprächend häts da na platz für ein song gha: „where did my socks go“… Immer wirdi au na wüsse woni d bassline vu exodus s erste mal ghört ha, wegtätschd heds mi. Au wenni nüm zu de weekly listeneres vum bobby M. ghöre, aber es isch eifach glich immer wieder e freud! 1 Meisterstück, 5 Sterne.
So many good vibes going around. There's not a whole lot in disc one, but there's also not one problem with it. The second half comes alive with 'Jamming', which is super groovy in its own right, and 'Three Little Birds' seals the deal. Even the in-betweeners relax the mind and body. Not perfect, and a few forgettable ones, too, but still a very strong body of work.
I'd listened to Rastaman Vibration on my own before this and already enjoyed it quite a bit, enough to buy it later. It's remarkable, then, how this one sounds even better to me all around, even though I can't easily pinpoint a distinct change in style here. If I had to throw out a good guess, I'd say that this one does have a wider emotional palette; the last album was mostly rather pensive or grim, while this one has a few more twists and turns. Title track is the highlight; despite having that same 'grim' attitude from the last album, this one changes up the standard reggae beat quite a bit, to an appropriately insistent march. So nice to learn how much can be done in reggae!
No hace falta ser amante del reggae para disfrutarlo. Buen álbum, buenas canciones y buen rollo
liked this one alot.
F'ing masterpiece. Who doesn't love this one? Some of the best music ever.
If I could give this negative stars I would
5 out of 5
I've listened to this many times and it never gets old. The vibe is infectious and the groove that weaves through the album makes this one big cohesive near religious experience. Bob isn't preaching, but he makes you want to join the flock. This is the pinnacle of reggae as it moved from Jamaica into the rest of the world's consciousness. 5 enthusiastic stars.
Love getting this on a Friday. Great vibes, production and instrumentation. 5/5
As a longtime reggae fan, this album is more than enough for me—nothing more to say, but it's simply the best.
The quintessential Bob Marley album, Exodus might just be the zenith of first wave reggae. Besides all the hits on the record, including Marley's most successful single Jamming, Exodus has a vibe that reaches beyond the typical reggae audience at the time. In fact, Exodus was the gateway drug of reggae, especially int he early 1980s. Released in 1977, Jamming somehow became part of the early 1981 new wave radio mix. While many people who were into more exotic music in the US listened to Bob Marley and the Wailers earlier, the mass market became aware of him in the early 1980s because of Jamming. After that, Markey was all over every college dorm for the next decade. Tragically, Bob Marley achieved this height only a short time before he died from cancer. At least he went out on top. Exodus is genuine, free feeling, and, yet, accessible. It belongs in every collection not matter if you have dozens of reggae albums or none yet.
Even outside of the big hits, the whole album is a laid back vibe and loved every song. 5/5
fave song: waiting in vain ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is maybe Bob Marley's most refined and produced album. Despite that, the rawness of his musical style still shines through. I think a lot of people associate Reggae music with being light and airy, singing songs about sunshine and good times. Exodus is a perfect example of how that same sound can tackle some dark and intense themes. I had this album on repeat for a number of years so nostalgia and familiarity probably play into my feelings a bit but I genuinely believe this is a near perfect album. The setlist reads more like a greatest hits than a studio album. Despite the sometimes darker themes I also think this album is guaranteed to put you in a good mood. While there may be an issue with the fact that Bob Marley is perhaps the only Reggae artist 95 percent of people could name, I do understand why. He is the absolute king of this genre and Exodus may be his crowning achievement. A feat in the history of music and i think this album deserves a place on the top 10 of all time.
If this list was reduced to a single album for each genre, Exodus would be the album that remains for reggae. It perfectly typifies reggae music and is an all around great album.
foundational, classic, etc.
An album that I think everyone embraces at some point and which is so accessible to anyone to enjoy. A vibe creator, it puts you in the right spot. Allthough I can only ever hear Chief Wiggum’s voice during Jammin’ 5.0/5.0 Best Song: Waiting In Vain
What an album its so good, its a nice start to the album but the second half really cements it as a legendary album. Jamming - One Love is just an insane run of tracks. It really epitomises reggae and the time so well. Best track: Jamming/ Waiting in Vain
Just such an enjoyable listen. Maybe easy to classify Raggae as "easy listening" given the upbeat musicality, but there's a lot going on beneath the surface here. Marley's explorations of faith and liberation are fascinating. The laid-back instrumentation propels it along. Who knew personal and political struggles could sound so easy-going and hopeful? Five stars for Mr. Marley. Just had a great time.
I have never bothered with Bob Marley or reggae in general. That changes today.
Love this album, one of my all time favourites. It’s a master piece, no further notes.
It's pretty goated. a lot of bops Will I listen to again: 100%
Iconic as ever Best Song: Three Little Birds Rating: 9.5/10 Stars: 5
It’s about the perfect album. There isn’t a weak song here. Just lovely.
Such an easy ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. Never a weak moment. And honestly it's not even my top 5 favorite Marley albums.
Bob Marley the cat, 2013-2025 It took me nearly six months to listen to this album after it got generated, my cat's death in July hurt me more than I was letting on. Yeah, I still have four cats, but I used to have five, and cats are living creatures with unique personalities and... yeah, losing Marley the cat got to me, all right. That said, he was named after an incredibly talented musician. I'm glad I finally got around to listening.
6/5
What can I say but pure love for this album, the memories, the quickening of awareness and most of all the deepening of appreciation as the years pass.
excellent album! a true classic!
- vaikka en jointtia harvase päivä polttele niin jaman-meininki kiinnostelee - onhan tää chillailumusaa par excellence - bob marleyn äänessä on jotain lohduttavaa ja rentouttavaa - ei juuri heikkoja hetkiä tällä albumilla, kovaa kamaa
Yeah, fair enough just a mega album. I generally find Reggae listenable but quite boring however this I enjoyed thoroughly all the way through. Only got better as it went on and loved the fusion of genres, especially the English rock influences due to my taste. Jamming, One Love and Three Little Birds all timeless songs, as well as Waiting in Vain, a new song for me that will be going straight into my playlist as I loved the track. 5/5
Greatest album in Bob Marley’s discography. Enjoyed immensely.
