Awesome album, good vibes!
Banger after banger... A clear 5.
MTTTT bom pqppppppp já conhecia we are family de algum lugar..
Every song on this album is amazing. The disco tracks are all so fun, the R&B tracks sound beautiful, and both have immaculate vocals. Each song is banger after banger, but I will say that the front half is a bit better than the back. Favorite Track: We Are Family - An extremely iconic song and easily one of the best disco songs ever. I had to go back and listen to the original full version when I realized the remastered album had the shortened version as its main version.
First of all, the basslines on this album are UNREASONABLE. It's a rare occurrence that I hear this much funk in one place at one time. These basslines are NASTY. Like gym socks lost under your bed in the corner of your room for months nasty. You can tell Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards played on this. Every song on here is a banger. No Skips, no Meh.'s, just hotness.
Gettin jiggy with it.
My first disco album of the challenge. Absolutely loved it! I was bopping around the kitchen, singing along to hit after hit after hit. Five stars.
Genuinely enjoyable disco, I can see why this saved their career
Classic
It's funky, it's dancey, it's jazzy. What's not to love
What I've gathered from listening and doing some further research: Disco music is so incredibly slept on. The upbeat, feel-good feel of these songs are executed so well. "We Are Family" was known to me as just another song that plays at every white wedding. Little did I know the album would hold so many gems. It's the kind of music you dance alone to, even if it's just tapping your foot to the beat. "He's the Greatest Dancer" is the perfect start to set the tone, and the diversity through the more mellow songs like "Somebody Loves Me" and the more upbeat style in songs "Thinking of You" and "We Are Family" keeps the album interesting and fun. It's an easy listen. Being from PA myself, it was very cool to learn the history and the impact Sister Sledge made in not only from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, but nationwide.
Great album!
Chk chk
Que instrumental incrível, passaria horas escutando essa preciosidade de álbum, sintonia incrível das irmãs e uma sonoridade perfeita!
My new favourite “party” album
Fuck this is immense!! So far there are nottttt enough disco albums on this list and that is a TRAVESTY! Every song on here is a banger and makes me wanna boogie
Absolutely peak disco.
Bernard Edwards gets 5 stars all by himself.
Such a great album Nile Rogers and Bernard Summer gave this album life. The hits are undeniable but the rest of the album is just as great.
Full of classics.
music is love
This is a classic. So good. Anthem for the late 70s.
tastes like rusty cum is a wild thing to say, shame on your entire family
Disco is very alive in my heart
Hell yes
That was much more enjoyable than I thought it'd be. The remixes at the end of the '95 remaster were the icing on the cupcake.
Great
Super groovy and great to have on in the background to raise your spirits. Lost in Music in particular is a banger
Iconic
I love the vibe, it’s cheerful and has an incredible bass and instrumentals that make you want to get up and dance. Favourite - One more time
I love it!!! 🫠🙂🌞
Ahhhh yeah
It's such a great album
[Already rated. Original review:] Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards can write the hell out of a groove. "Lost in Music" is a certified banger and I want to listen to it every day.
Great album! Brought back great memories! Sister Sledge are suck great singers and musicians! Highly recommend this album!
I love Sister Sledge!! Truly an iconic quartet! I wish I was alive during their prime!
Yesyesyesyes
Ох, ну что за альбом! Первоклассное диско, фанковое, клёвое звучание. Завлекает уже с первого трека. Мне очень понравилось.
muuuy gueno 9/10
Ahhhh, disco. The peppier cousin of funk, I can't help but think it's one of the most fun genres of music ever. There's probably some rose-tinted glasses involved since I didn't actually live through the disco wave, but even listening to this album for the first time today proves to me that I'm not far off. I don't know why I was so surprised to find this album so enjoyable when I've been so familiar with the title track my whole life. Never having heard any of the other songs before, including the shockingly more popular He's the Greatest Dancer, I was even more surprised to find myself singing along to half the tracks before they were even done. That's one thing that's accomplished so well here. The lyrics are simple, clear, and the melodies so core-hitting that I was able to catch on by the time the first choruses were done. Not to mention the album is paced incredibly well, with big hits sprinkled between more toned down tracks. I don't think there's a real weak spot here, but if I had to be picky it does start to run out of a bit of steam towards the end of the record. Smooth vocals, funky guitar, groovy bass, and floaty harmonies bring the entire record together into a spot of genre perfection that I can't help but rate it highly. Highlights: He's the Greatest Dancer Lost in Music Somebody Loves Me Thinking of You We Are Family Easier to Love You're a Friend to Me
Classic love some disco
Its a given
Gran álbum que incluye canciones de las que han sacado samples clásicos que han pasado la brecha del tiempo.
An album that sounds like champagne tastes and just as bubbly. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards' production is just as pristine as the best Steely Dan records but they don't fucking go on about it! These grooves have so much space and light around every element that it feels like you're in a marble discotheque.
A fantastic Disco/RnB album that if played at a cemetery it would only surprise me slightly if the dead busted out of their coffins and started a dance party of epic proportions! This is my favorite kind of album - a fun one- a terrific way to lose control of your body for 45 minutes. See you on the dance floor!
This is unimportant but I accidentally logged into another guy's account lol. 5/5
Nile Rodgers/ Bernard Edwards-produced perfection!

Deserves a louder and longer listening
Absolutely loved it!
Pure disco heaven. Some classics on here and then some lovely slow ballads - incredible family harmonies. There's something about the instruments in this album that's so serene and ethereal
Wow. Bangers!
Slaps
Probably the greatest disco album ever. The guitar work is heavenly, and the vibes are immaculate. Even outside of the megahits here, there are some great tracks which help it stand on its own as an album, and not just a best-hits collection. An album I can't imagine anyone truly disliking.
Absolute classic, amazing songs front to back
WE ARE FAMILY. I GOT ALL MY SISTERS WITH ME.
Mu chulo un 5
I haven't heard many disco albums other than compilations, but this is probably the best I've heard so far. I knew I liked a lot of their songs, but didn't realise so many were on the same album - they still get loads of radio play today. This is full of great songs (Thinking About You probably my favourite), and has energy, finesse and grace. The crystal clear Nile Rodgers production is expert, they do not overdo the bass and it has loads of space to breathe. If I am detecting a concept here, then the theme is basically going out and having a good time. You could go 4 or 5 on this one, but for what it is they couldn't really have made it any better than it is, so 5 stars.
uplifting and positive vibrations.
Manifique.
A true classic
This album is sooooo groovy! I looove it! It has a great flow and idk, I’m kind of obsessed
J’adore ! Lost in music, we are family, etc ! 9(,5)/10
Ha bah voilà
Great disco sounds. Definitely dance like no one is watching.
WOW this was an incredible listen, such incredible vibes with such incredible sound, so much fun, wowowow! Wow! Wow!
Oooooooh, that's a no-brainer. One of my favorites, 5 out of 5 right away.
ya dije que no me gusta cuando me gritan en silencio a los oidos.
I don’t think I can be friends with anyone of dislikes sister sledge, it means they don’t like Nile Rogers and Nile Rogers is one of the top ten humans ever to to born.
Perfect. What music is supposed to be. My new obsession is how perfect the “caught in a trap” line sounds in Lost in Music. It might be the best produced line in all of music.
A suprisingly stacked album (as long as you don't bother with the re-issue and its bonus tracks). I absolutely loved this - maybe I just love disco? Such fun! He's the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, Thinking of You, and We Are Family are proper bangers.
I don’t understand how anyone could dislike disco. 5/5.
Absolute gold.
i already love this album
Yay fun good disco
Had my first dance on it, I don’t make the rules
амэйзинг
Better than I thought. Very chill.
Incredible album made even better by the association to Glastonbury where Nile Rodgers performed with CHIC. Appreciate the prompt to go back and listen - boogie central fr
I LOVE IT. LOVE THESE LADIES
Two albums in a row that I already know and love, I am such a Nile Rogers fangirl and had the absolute privilege of seeing him and Chic play a few of these tunes live. A moment please for the most underrated most beautiful song Easier To Love PLEASE i’ve been spinning this track so frequently for the past few months
great
The big songs on this album are just so insanely big, it’s a greatest hits album. Some of the coolest, sexiest music you can listen to. Voices like honey. Grooves that get you moving. 5.0/5.0 Best Song: Thinking Of You
banger. nothing else to say. it speaks for itself, that good is it
some songs on this album were known to me but i still enjoyed it. would recommend
Production is super crisp. This is the first Chic-produced LP I’ve heard and it lives up to expectations. I think this is ideally enjoyed as dance music as the songs themselves don’t have a lot of variation inside their structure, but undeniably a pure pleasure to listen to and will stay in my rotation.
Temporarily cured my depression
Sounds a bit like boney m and I love boney m
Classic.
I mean... As a disco enthusiast, I kinda have to rate this 5/5, right?
Legendary
These are songs and a sound that takes you back. Instantly you want to be up and about finding out why he is the greatest dancer. The backing rhythm section do a great job. And we are Family is amazing
This album is perfect. No notes.
Fantastic, love me some Niles Rodgers who wrote and produced the album. Such great songs with Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, and Thinking of You
Favorite Songs: He’s the Greatest Dancer, Thinking of You Least Favorite Song: You’re a Friend to Me Yo momma so fat that when she went to the beach a whale swam up and sang, "We are family, even though you're fatter than me”
Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards can write the hell out of a groove. "Lost in Music" is a certified banger and I want to listen to it every day.
Am I... into disco?
Awesome!!
yaaaaaassss, we are family
Dei play no álbum e imediatamente fui conquistado. 5/5
Best so far
I see where Will Smith got inspo for Gettin Jiggy Wit It. This is a good dancing around the kitchen album. Solid.
more my speed. very re-listenable. i wanna dance
Beautiful, wonderful, enriching and warming; basically, those are the words I'd use if we were about to experience an orbital bombardment and your last question to me was what I thought of 'We Are Family by Sister Sledge'. Anyway - everything about this album is good. It's the only thing I'd ever call 'bombastic' and not feel like a little bit of a prick (besides like, Metal Gear Rising). I've loved 'We Are Family' since I was a baby who had a dipshit no-good family who I'm glad are dead; that's how fucking good the header song is. It doesn't even matter to me that it's gotta be top 5 contenders for a children's film ending insert where they all dance after saving the day and the villain discontentedly taps his (or perhaps her) foot in a jail cell miles away.
10/10 Disco/Funky Music
YESSSSSSSSSS
There are pros and cons to falling behind on this list. Pros: you get to choose an album based on mood, and you see others’ reviews as soon as you’re done Cons: you are left wondering if anyone cares to read your review so after the fact, it also sort of defeats the purpose of the project I listened to this on a cold, blustery, grey winter morning and it was *just* the soulful medicine I needed to have a great day despite the weather. This album rips. No skips, all bops. An all time disco classic.
Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards' master work - handily among the greatest albums of all time (whether determined by this stupid 1001 list or otherwise). Maybe I'm hallucinating on the hoagie fumes, but the sisters, Rodgers, and Edwards bring something distinctly "Philadelphia" to disco here. "We Are Family" is perfect in every sense and I will never say no to a cover-to-cover listen. I want to give a special mention to my favorite Sister Sledge track - "Thinking of You" - which is certainly not overlooked per se but does seem to take a back seat to the other side one hits in the contemporary cannon.
no skips here Would I listen again: Yes Deserves to be on this list: yes 4.6
This is a beautiful album and it makes me wonder why disco died. From the very first notes on the opening track (and my favorite), "He's the Greatest Dancer," the groove is in and it does not leave. It's an album that makes me years for a genre that died years before I came into the world.
fire. my style for sure
Great!
This rules. Throw it on the classroom, for sure.
Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards all day ❤️
If you don't at least tap your foot to this, you have a problem
This is a disco banger and i'm here for it. Every track was brilliant, with incredible hooks, beautiful baselines, more groove than a record player and it just makes you want to dance and smile.
Just like a greatest hits album and taking me happily through midweek with a bit of brilliant disco.
I'm lost in their music ♫
Disco has always been good
Joni, Kim, Debbie and Kathy Sledge united with Chic's duo and resulted in a classic timeless disco album.Funky man Nile Rodger's contribution can be heard all over this.Even if you didn't know those songs, which i doubt, they were havily multi-sampled by disco house producers and influenced the french filter house ones in particular'till this very day.Highly influencial though vocals are mostly average and a milestone to the disco era and crowd. We Are Family, emblematic disco song that is timeless. Still singing to this when things go rough and we need unity and also a break! He's The Greatest Dancer,Nile Rodgers funky slap guitar delivery can rise a dead man to instantly dance.Maybe he is the greatest dancer they are talking about. Frankie, nice love song.I love the keys in that one. Everybody Dance, nice vibes,''shaft'' guitar intro and at intermissions.Great latin-esque uplifting piano. Lost In Music, emotional with beautiful keys and groovy guitar. One my favourites.I still use the title's term when i'm making music.''I want my melody, melody, melody, melody"! Thinking Of You,beautiful and dreamy from the beginning, sensual and with great lyrics.Reminds me of ''makes me love you'' disco house track that sampled most of the song back in the 00's.The soundtrack when you are in love. True Love's got plucky sounds and a jazzy vibe.My least favourite.A bit of Sade orchestration kinda thing. Brother,Brother Stop, great piano intro. The vocals here shine more than in any other song of this album.A proper ballad.Guitar solo at the end builds tention and reminded me of Michael Jackson's ballads. This was probably a live take. Disco Love 5/5
Really grooving to this on my flight to LA. I love disco so much. My uncle Tim was a big disco dancer, and I have all of his disco albums! Excited to share Lost in Music with Kelso and have a silly little dance party in their living room. Yay, another five star day!
Deliciously funky and genuinely soulful compared with other disco-era records.
Perfect
Love
Lots of bangers
Now this FUCKS. Phenomenal listen in the office on a Monday morning!!
we are family is excellent to listen to, and it has a disco style.
Bernard and Nile are just the best producers. This is a ridiculously good album that sounds incredible. They are incredible and that's before you get onto the vocals - which are also great!
Funk, R&B, singing - this is classic kitchen cooking music right here
Love it!
good gals!
Loved it. Love the genre.
BANGER
me gusto bastante, highlight la linea de bajo de Thinking of You
When I was a child, my mom had two or three “Best of Disco” CDs that she would play repeatedly in the car, leading me to believe this was how music sounded in general in the year 2000. Out of all the songs she’d play, “He’s the Greatest Dancer” was my all-time favorite—my joy of hearing it again to open this album actually made me a little teary-eyed. This album is wonderful and warm to the senses. Nile Rodgers’ touch is all over the tracks, from the funky bass lines to the lush string arrangements. Not only are some of the well-known Sister Sledge tracks on here, but there’s songs that I haven’t heard before and now really like. Just incredible all around tbh.
So much fun to listen to!
Solid gold
The gold standard of disco. The band is tight, the harmonies are luscious, and the groove is simply irresistible.
Fantastic album! So many classics on there!
I mean... It is great!
Loved this album
Great album. Enjoyed it a lot. A lot of great catchy songs on it
Knew all these songs but not who made them them
Perfect, no notes. Classic for a reason
#118/1001. Well isn't this chic! Some time ago, I watched a three episode documentary about Nile Rodgers, and according to him he has defined and redefined most of the existing pop music from the 70s to this day. Well the list is quite impressive, but still... Anyways, I just realised when this album popped up that there hasn't been any disco yet in this list. Come on, it is 2025 and the disco sucks movement should be buried deep somewhere in the cis male subconscious so it will never surface again. What really is wrong with music which is created to enjoy our lives and music that you can dance to? More disco! And don't come complaining that so many of the disco records or artists have just one hit - there is already countless of of one-hit bands or albums which I have reviewed, and I'm only somewhere around 10% of the project so far. So how about a bit of celebration in your life, change those habits, turn hate to love, try dancing instead of saying you can't do it, have some fun instead of glooming in the corner (I know I did). Probably would give this a 3 or 4 otherwise but since we need more disco it is a 5.
an out-of-left-field dinger of an album here. I recognized so many samples and its clear to see why artists utilized them. Great funk and gets you moving from start to finish.
Stellar album! Nothing but classics. It also is a testament to the quality of the tunes that so many of them were sampled by other artists.
I have to rate this LP with 5 stars for a few reasons. First it's a very good Rn B album. It has a signature song on it plus other groovin" rhythms thru out the other sings. Great vocals by the Sledge Sisters and by the way Debbie Sledge was in my high school graduating class. So yes from my hometown of Philadelphia city of soul R n B and the blues. This album was a big factor from that 70s scene. Only disappointment was the Pittsburgh Pirates made We Are Family their championship theme song instead of the Phillies of Philadelphia.
Save yourself the pain of any of the 1995 remaster remixes and just listen to the 8 original tracks. Hard to believe that so many bangers are on one album. This disco does not suck.
What an album. so funky and so smooth.
Great album; wall to wall bangers.
Never would've thought I'd start to appreciate disco R&B via this project.
Exceptional album
So much fun
s’il y avait des chansons comme ça au Dagobert, peut-être qu’il y aurait actually du monde qui danse un peu moins fan des remix par contre
oh yeah!
KiNdA fUnKy :)
Awesome album and I loved all of it! Great mix of soul, R&B and disco! Will be listening to again.
Certified disco classic, so much more than just a song your grandma requests at weddings
I knew most of the songs on this album, I've got a feeling they were all hits and it made for great waiting for customs
If you're wondering why this sounds so familiar to CHIC, it's because this is literally just CHIC with the Sledge Sisters singing over the top. Nile Rodgers (and Bernard Edwards) seems to put magic into everything he touches. I already knew immediately after seeing the track listing of this thing I was going to give it a 5 (over 50% of songs from this album are already in my other playlists). Obviously we've all heard "We Are Family", but it's an even more enjoyable experience if you hone in on the individual instruments. Listen to Bernard menace slapping that bass guitar like a NSW Blues supporter to his wife after losing the State of Origin series (again). Anyways, Nile Rodgers album = easy 5. I didn't even know the guy until I started 1001 reviews.
Perfect
great
amazing
Full on party mode!! Bangers from beginning to... well, the end before we launch into the state mandated remix section lol. Luckily the songs themselves are good enough that I'll let the remixes slide. I had a great time
O melhor álbum do Chic.
Perfect, not 1 bad song 5
Un bon disc de música disco i funk! La cançó, We are family!! un clàssic genial.
If you had told me at the start of this that I would be giving Sister Sledge 5 stars I would’ve thought you were on crack but here we are. This is bloody brilliant, an absolute BANGER of an album. Top Track - He’s The Greatest Dancer
So many classic songs on here, I never knew they were all by the same artist! I liked it a lot!
This is a great album! Nile Rodgers and Bernard Williams are fantastic musicians and producers. Love the songs!
What a nice soulful album. We are family, He's the greatest dancer, Lost in music are all bangers. Nice to listen to, great vocals, interesting backings.
Impeccable! I was concerned that the rest of the album wouldn’t be able to live up to the title track and I’m excited to be so wrong! The urge to sing along is irresistible.
Classic album from sister sledge. Has most of their best songs. Great guitar parts from Nile Rodger’s. Another favorite.
Real music & absolutely 0 skips thank you
Mega. 5/5
One of my favourite disco/funk albums. Almost a greatest hits album. So far I’ve only disliked 1 album. Growing up in the 80s has given me my music education.
Sumptuous production of a disco classic. A slew of great songs.
Absolute bangers from start to finish! Disco at its finest! Nile Rogers knows his stuff.
Fun album Upbeat lots of cool grooves
happy.
🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵😊😊😊
A really solid disco album I e never heard, and felt the biggest radio hit wasn’t the best song on the album. I actively went through and “liked” every song on here but one or two, and those were still solid tracks. The guitar works and vocals were great, good beats, another amazing Niles Rodger’s project
FOOOONNNNKEEEeee... I felt like I was in a late 70's black & white dancefloor. 5 stars
Like all truly great albums it inspired a lot of crap that came afterwards (and a lot of good stuff too!). Disco is the genre with the highest highs and lowest lows. This album is peak disco. I’ve always loved the rhythmic guitar, the floaty, erratic percussion and especially the buttery, creamy bass on ”Thinking of you”. It’s such a perfect song. I never tire of it.
Wonderful album. Took me by surprise, to be honest. This actually is probably one of the best disco/funk/soul albums ever made? I mean I was bopping to the grooves, effortlessly, without even noticing. The instrumentation? On point. The singing? Total fire. Great tunes. Great vibes. No notes. Must-listen #137.
rly remarkable cross-section of talent!! idk much about chic (or the other sister sledge projects, if theyre worth anything) but its rly awsom to listen to a record that has multiple star players and none of them rly overshadow eachother...theres tons of room for everyone. and the songs absolutely ruleeeeee...this has to be as close to good as disco can get for me. spacious, tight, glittery, warm, luxurious, v precise but with no stiffness whatsoever. feels kind of decadent in my mouth! wonderful record, wish it got talked ab a bit more!
This was fire I need more of these R&B albums
Loved it.
Pure disco soul bliss. Absolute perfection.
Highlights: Lost in Music, We are Family
I absolutely love funk music! It makes me happy! This album, in particular, always gets me moving and singing. It's packed with hits - the magnificent voices of the sisters, the mesmerizing rhythm guitar playing by Nile Rodgers, and the punchy bass lines of Bernard Edwards. True legends of their genre. This is exactly what you need to get funky! 💃🕺⭐️
Way more understated than you think. And all the better for it. Niles Rodger’s knows what he’s doing.
Top disco groovy album, fillers lijken er bijna een klein beetje saai door. Je hoort dat tokkeltje van Nile Rodgers wel. He’s the greatest dancer & Lost in music > We are family.
One of the best disco albums with hit after hit. It's honestly impressive how many huge songs are in here. There's not a bad song in here and the highs are incredibly high.
Oh yeah disco let's go hell yeah
Actually fire
Some albums suffer from being too familiar with the well known hits overshadowing the other tracks. This is not the case here and the music flows seamlessly from the floor fillers to the more soulful numbers. This album combines the legendary disco beats of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards from Chic with four amazing vocalists, who are actually all sisters with the surname of Sledge. The result is one of the greatest disco records of all time with the highlight being the anthemic We Are Family. The only quibble that I have with this is the selection of unnecessary remixes tacked on the end of this edition that add nothing of any note to the original versions. These can be skipped without missing anything.
Absolutely banging from start to finish - guaranteed dancefloor time
Ludicrous
28/03/25 Ignoring the fact the extra songs were bonus songs and ruined the album, the album at it's core, was really good.
Absolute classics from the 1990’s. Sister sledge smashed it with this album. You’re more than likely to know the songs than ever heard of Sister Sledge. Greatest dancer and Thinking of You are total 10/10’s. Only thing bringing this album down is the 8 minute long remixes, I get it - you are family. 9/10.
Brilliant. I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. I played it twice in a row, to make sure. So groovy. A great find.
So funky and so catchy, with amazing bass and guitar across almost every track. Again I'm not a big fan of the slow ballads, but the upbeat disco songs are all fantastic. He's the Greatest Dancer, Thinking of You, Lost in Music and We Are Family are all great. I'd definitely come back to this.
An easy 5 from me! 🥇Lost in Music 🥈We Are Family
A fantastic disco/RnB album. One of my favourites. I really do love Sister Sledge... Every song on here is just groovy, sizzling and phenomenal. Faves: He's The Greatest Dancer 💖 Lost In Music 💖 Thinking Of You We Are Family Easier To Love 💖 You're a Friend To Me One More Time 💖 I did enjoy the remixes as well. Fantastic from start to end.
First 5 for an album I hadn't listened to before. Music to put a smile on your face and get you dancing
Nile Rodgers, the man that you are
Excellent front to back. “Thinking of You” is pure bliss.
ALL OUT FEEL GOOD BANGERS THROUGHOUT!
God damn thats funky
I LOVE YOU DISCO I LOVE YOU WOMEN
Up there with the best and most innovative albums of the 70s, there's so much range here but the songs are also so catchy. They pushed things forwards as much as Kraftwerk and Eno.
It has to be from Guyana
Amazing production in a relatively short album, but nevertheless, filled with rythm, good times and good sound. Highly recommended.
I had no idea that I knew so much Sister Sledge. I knew almost every song in this album, and enjoyed very much listening to it all again now. I’ve always enjoyed funk music as I like when people get creative with bass playing. This amps it up with funky disco beats alongside. The whole thing comes together with the vocals to make something that will make me dance with 100% success rate. I can’t fault this album!
He's the greatest dancer
We are familyyyyyy
Makes me dance 🕺
Пиздато, но иногда кажется, что треки должны быть короче, но идите нахуй
A really funky album. Nile Rodgers’ bass guitar was excellent and the harmonies from the ladies were really good.
A classic that helped define disco with elements of Aretha Franklin soul and James Brown funk that help set the stage for Pop music over the next decades. Helped inspire diverse genres such as Hip Hop, New Romantic, New Wave, Electronica, and even far reaching into inspiring acts Chicago Wax Trax! Records acts My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult and Ministry with Industrial Rock. Favorites: "He's the Greatest Dancer", "Lost in the Music", "Thinking of You", "One More Time" and of course the Disco classic "We Are Family".
Maybe it was just the timing but I loved this.
Sounds like a band that ABBA would have copied... Niles Rodgers!
Certified bangers
I can't help it; I like disco.
Drop your 9 to 5, take some ecstasy and do it for family. Then do it again. What an album. If it's good enough for Will Smith and Daft Punk then it's good enough for me
Nice!
Love it, great easy listening music in the morning
Highlight album from the disco era, a real classic.
Prefect album for a Friday 10/10
Drag queens to the front
loved it front to back. I got suuucked in during the first 3 seconds of this one. No disco record is gonna beat this one im sure
Goddamn Nile Rodgers and company were in the bag on this one.
I think I’d be bopping my head along to Nile Rodgers playing guitar and Bernard Edwards playing bass while I was being drawn and quartered. That’s some irresistible good times, right there. This album might be the pinnacle of disco, methinks. Such a head bopper.
Once again I am forced to ask «why on earth do so many hate on disco?»
Dit album is geweldig album! Het heeft alle hits!! *****
I knew Nile Rodgers by name, but now I know Bernard Edwards by name too. I want to listen to this again and just zone in on that funky bass. I loved loved loved this! Lost in Music is about to become my anthem. And it's such a little thrill when you get to appreciate a classic that you've heard a million times in the context of an all around great record.
Remarkable to have so many massive disco hits in one album, it must have been unbelievable when it was first released Truly, peak disco.
Great album! Great rhythm, catchy tunes, I can't help but dance and snap my fingers to it. All songs are instantly recognisable, and you know they hit it big when the tracks are still remixed decades later. The remastered version also adds production value making it an amazing listening experience. Would definitely play again!
WOW. This is great. Perfect for a Monday morning walk to work cos of the feel good vibes and perfect brisk walking speed tempo. Maybe lags slightly at the end if I had to find a negative.
The ultimate Disco Queens - Sister Sledge and Nile Rodgers. This album is not 1, not 2, not 3 but 4 absolute disco dancefloor classics. Anyone who does fw disco, must have a misunderstanding the genre's complexities. Thinking of You is one of my all time top favourite songs (at least top 10). Love!
This is flat out one of the best so far. The hooks we know - We Are Family is something everyone who has attended a wedding in the past 30 years is familiar with - but the lesser known tracks are orchestral, great lyrics, beautiful voices. I WAS born in Detroit early 70s, so maybe these jams just speak to my soul, but a firm YES.
Yes <3
Nile Rodger's fingerprints are all over this album and that's a very good thing. Another easy 5.
I should listen to more disco. Lost in Music is the theme tune of this exercise.
Six things about this album and why it’s a five. Absolute disco bangers: He’s The Greatest Dancer, Lost In Music, We are Family. Like any great pop album if you can marshal three classic singles (Madonna, Prince er and probably Jackson) then who cares what the rest of the album is like. There is no point in discussing the rest of the album, which is mostly fine mid-tempo disco with one ballad, when these three demand your complete attention. Each starts with a leisurely introduction. Exactly like electronic music would do just over a decade later, Chic knew how to build tension and release. So the first track starts with the bass, drums and Nile Rodger’s brilliant guitar hook, then we get the keyboards, then the strings. Only after a minute of establishing exactly how great this groove is do we get the vocals. They start with the chorus. Worked for Motown, works here. Only perhaps Prince and Bowie have enjoyed a purple patch as rich as Rodgers and Edwards did in 1979. As well as this complete classic - to which they gave three of their very best songs, they released Risque with Le Freak and gave Spacer to Sheila B Devotion. A year later they would reboot Diana Ross with I’m Coming Out, Debbie Harry’s first solo album a year later and the quite magnificent Why by Carly Simon a year later. A few years later there would be Let’s Dance and Like A Virgin… wow. If you’ve only ever heard the single version of Lost In Music the full album track contains four minutes of quite exceptional gospel-inspired vocal shredding by Kathy Sledge. And that’s why an album of eight tracks can be a five star album on only three tracks.
Awesome, upbeat, danceable. Just what I needed. I’ll definitely return to this album.
This is an iconic album
Pure disco vibes! Love it!
Delicious yummy disco goodness. Only problem is there aren’t enough remixes!
So cool
Great album
Groovin!
I loved this - anything that gets me up and dancing on a Monday morning is a 5. Full of joyful bops and classic, funky disco. And it'd of course be remiss of me to not mention the excellent title track, which is one of the most enduring, famous disco tracks of all time. Favourite track: He's the Greatest Dancer
Came for the bangers but stayed for the lesser known tracks, all immaculately sung and played.
5 stars! Great album
5*
Wow. He's The Greatest Dancer, Lost In Music, We Are Family, One More Time.
Unreal. To be a fly on the wall in these sessions would be amazing. Great vocals, timeless playing, and perfect production/remaster. I dig it.
Sister Sledge must have back problems from carrying Will Smith around all these years.
ICONIC 💫💫💫💫💫
Excellent! Nile Rodgers at his best
What you have to listen to when you want to listen to some funk + disco
I love disco. I love the memories. I love this album.
10/10. :) This is such a fun disco album! The music is funky and groovy. The vocals are great. The melodies are great. There is a lot of good bass. There are a lot of good strings. :) I totally would recommend this album. It definitely belongs on the list of 1001 must-listen albums. :)
Ja geweldig dit, echt heerlijk
Straight to the point, this is just some excellent disco produced by one of the greats. 4.5 upped to 5.
A masterpiece of disco. The singing and playing are both brilliant. It's astonishing that Rogers and Edwards had never met the Sledges before writing these songs.
Loved it!!!!!!!
He’s The Greatest Dancer // Lost In Music // Somebody Loves Me // Thinking Of You // We Are Family // You’re a Friend to Me // One More Time
Such a great album. Everyone knows the title track that will surely make you dance. But there are so many other wonderful tunes on that album like You're a Friend to me and especially thinking of you. Both should be mandatory on every wedding playlist.
This album has so many famous songs on it but I've somehow never heard their band name before. I liked this entire album, it was disco stripped down to its fundamentals. "He's The Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family" were my favorite tracks. It was all easy to listen to - I was doing lots of foot tapping and head bobbing. It wasn't too long either so I didn't get bored of the sound. Disco isn't my favorite genre to listen to at my desk chair, but I can see that this is the good stuff. 9/10
No skips
Five stars
Definition of fire. If you dont fw disco your soul is imbalanced
I have never once thought about who wrote We Are Family, but damn this was pretty good. I low key kind of like how groovy and funky disco as a whole is, and this is great disco. He's the Greatest Dancer is an awesome opener, didn't realize Gettin Jiggy Wit It sampled this, and I also really liked Lost in Music and Thinking of You.
I did not expect to enjoy this album as much as I did. We Are Family is iconic, but the rest was unknown to me. The disco vibe is strong, the bass lines are prominent, and it was just generally a fun album to listen to. Disco is so far from what I normally listen to, but I must have been in the right mood for this album!
All the best from this era are just solely fun and good times, I will dance to this any day. And Nile Rogers once again pushing a great album to be even better.
The Niles Rodgers involvement can be heard often and I love it.
Some outrageously huge black bear ledge dancefloor energy all over this.
Classic album, so many classics on here that I knew but didn't know were sister sledge songs.
Splendid
This album grooved like crazy! This disco and R&B combo is soooo soooo good. 4.5
I really struggled to find any moment of this album that I didn't enjoy.
A delightful listen on my way to and from work on my bike, brought smiles to a lot of people's faces at stop lights
Not a bad track on this album. Loved it! Had me bopping the whole time.
Brilliant disco songs with great songwriting by Edwards and Rogers from Chic
Nile Rogers at the peak of his powers + powerhouse vocals = the best full length of the Disco era and a total desert island record
Highly enjoyable
Nice disco!! Halston, Gucci, Fiorucci…💎
disco bangers ! Nile Rodgers produced. Makes you want to get up and dance.
This is a fun album if you let it have fun--Oh, what, wow?! I mean come on, that is fun even without roller skates. However, the title track will now have a special place in my life and probably make me cry going forward. This happened to be my 1001 album the day I went to visit my dad in the ICU. I like to keep him updated with my journey as he was a big influence to my musical tastes. He said this was one of his most popular during his disco DJ and lighting days. As I was talking about it, I said I'd play a bit of it for him but had to wait for "We are family" until my other sisters arrived. We had a blast once we got to play it. Get well soon dad! <3 Favorite track "We are family" 5/5
Full to the brim with classic iconic R’n’B and soul tracks. Will Smith owes a lot to Sister Sledge. Getting Jiggy with it
R&B Bass playing is one of the best things in the world. I found myself bobbing and dancing in my chair subconsciously constantly while listening to this. Just a fuckin incredible album. Favorite Song(s): Thinking of You, You're a Friend to Me
Brilliant takes me back to my youth. Good music. What's not to like
Half the album is already encoded in anyone who dances' DNA. The rest is good too, but good lord, Chic had a hit rate to die for back then.
