Reviews (page 3 of 13)

Loved it. Vocals and bass are based the whole way thru but not overpowering, melodic choices are so fun. I know ‘we are family’ is such a memey song but forgot how good it is bahahahah.

Another Nile Rodgers production. Damn, this guy might be responsible for ALL the disco I actually like. Everything you expect from Chic is here but add 5 sisters with incredible range and vocal talent. Nothing but good vibes here. Dancing my ass off instead of working today.

Oh my god the funk

I cut this album on and immediately started two stepping to the train. Then suddenly I was transported to a random park with a bunch of people. They looked familiar and they smiled at me. I was confused but then it clicked, I realized they were my family! A sweet older woman reached out and handed me a plate. She ushered me to the table and waited patiently for me to finish. Then, off in the distance, I hear a familiar phrase come on to the speaker, “WE ARE FAMILY!” I drop my plate, rush to the dance floor, and two step the night away. An experience I’ll never forget!

Relatable

I GOT ALL MY SISTERS WITH ME (i dont have sisters) yassss idk why im surprised this has millions of views on youtube

A really great funk and soul record. I could bath in the sound of it. The titletrack is not that cool, but it’s still a huge record. Thanks Nile!

Hvorfor er jeg så glad for det her?! Jeg høre metal for pokker da! Oh well. De disco rytmer rammer mig åbenbart bare... Det er føjet til min Chic playliste.

Fantastic album. Although there aren't many tracks on the original album, there are four absolute bangers that every one will know unless they've been living in antartica! The remaining four tracks were also very strong and would probably have fared well if released as singles.

Just so great, I loved it. Nile really gets me going.

Disco perfection. Guitars and bass out of this world and smooth smooth smooth vocals. Not a disco fan so let’s file this under ‘Guilty Pleasure’.

Classic and beautiful. What's not to love?

Ícones atemporais, 10/10

Love sister sledge absolute slapper album

Now we're talking. This is so groovy I can hardly sit still.

Very fun

day 102 —————— we are family sister sledge 1979 disco, r&b, soul very sexy, glamorous and confident disco music. every single track oozes positivity; this is an album that'll cheer you up when you're down. some tracks are faster, some tracks are slower... but at the end of the day the entire sound, the entire picture is consistently wonderful to listen to.

Classic and I just love the bass lines, so groovy...

Kocham

Nooit geweten dat Sister Sledge verantwoordelijk is geweest voor meer dan alleen het bekende We are family. Funky en vrolijke discomuziek.

We Are Family, by the Sister Sledge, is a funky ass album. The groove has never been smoother, with every track making me wanna spring up and dance. Nothing on this album screams boring, despite its seemingly similar track composition. It Is a 45 minute dance jam, and I love it. Highlights include He’s the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, and We Are Family. Just an awesome experience. All in all, We Are Family is an amazing album. Best Song: He's the Greatest Dancer Worst Song: You're a Friend to Me

we are family ta nan na na ananananan

oh my goodness! this must be a straight 5, purely because nearly every song on here is magnificent. I love this album so much!! and it just reminded me that thinking of you is one of the nicest, smoothest songs ever written. but this was truly an experience to have so many amazing songs, one after another. i would rate this higher than a 5 based on the fact that this is so far ahead of everything else. I honestly never knew that all of these songs that i love were on the same album, insane!!

A fun disco party.

I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. I knew most of the tracks on the album, but actually listening to them properly let me appreciate them fully. Excellent production throughout and some truly iconic melodies and hooks.

amazing

Pleasantly surprised. This album grooves from start to finish, without any real misses. This is one of the reasons I started this journey, I obviously knew a few songs off the album, but the rest was a fun ride.

You can't go wrong. Timeless record.

Like a few songs from the album.

Always a slay. Amazing album. I’m biased towards Motown and women

Funky from start to finish. Filled with great songs and powerful voices

Loved this. So many songs I wanted to come back to. More like this!

Excelente

9/10 - Absolute bangers on this album. I loved the first 4 songs and we are family was pretty good. I kept getting into the groove my whole walk home. Kind of like the yeah yeah yeahs album I could hear parts of some of the songs that could have been inspirations for roosevelt.

LOVE LOVE THIS. I listened so many times. Great music - We are Family!

Absolutely iconic. Dancing in the kitchen kind of music.

A ton of fun. Absolute classic. Who doesn’t love some good disco?

Good stuff

Fabulous voyage of discovery

Love this album. So many songs I've heard and didn't realize I had heard. Even the songs that I wasn't familiar with were bangers. Great album, will definitely listen again in the future.

Blast from the past. Great music to move your body!

i liked this a lot! i didn’t know who sang we are family before but i like a lot of the other songs too! and her voice is so smooth!

This is great! I've never listened to them, but I'm already curious to dig more into their discography because, to put it simply: this shit goes hard. It's a feel-good album, full of dance hits and an amazing production. It makes me want to dance, to sing, to live in the 80's. I love the funky guitar and the bass lines in basically every song, the vocals are super clear and groovy af. Favourite songs: He's the Greatest Dancer, Thinking Of You, Easier to Love

Philly's own. Glad to eee them on the list.

I used to own this on vinyl and played it often back then. Another all-time classic album from the era.

I’m not a huge disco fan, but the production and vocals on this album were solid. I can’t deny that.

Beautiful 🥰

Solid album. The opening track is my favourite.

Aside from maybe maggot brain, this has to be the funkiest album I've gotten on this list. Pure 70s soul/funk stuff that I love and he's the greatest dancer is the greatest song on the record. It's so easy to listen to and so iconic sounding to me it's impossible to not at leat enjoy every song even when there are momentary lulls.

Nile Rodgers immediately

So good to chill and ambiance

Love! Already had half the album in my favorites. Added a couple more.

This feels like the culmination of a good HEARTY home cooked meal and the full atmosphere of a LONG overdue family reunion. The feeling just oozes out of you and covers you like a warm blanket. Sister Sledge were definitely creating incredible atmospheres for their perspective times and deserve every bit of shine for it.

Any album that establishes Will Smith as a fraud within the first 10 seconds gets five stars from me.

Really cool album. Funky, disco, feel good, fills you up with energy all with the nice afroamerican vibe with the choirs and everything. Pretty good to put on the background but also active listening. Favorites so far: He's the Greatest Dancer, Thninking of You, We Are Family. Thinking of You also has that tatranska lomnica riff. ;) Generally a real nice positive danceable album to make the good moments even better. For what it is 9/10

The moment i saw this, I just heard the familiar WE. ARE. FAH-ME-LEIGH! Glad I wasn't wrong. I enjoyed this record a bunch, it's some really wonderful mood boosting disco. I also discovered the main sample of a remix I heard in a hotel some time ago, so that also made me happy. It's the main beat of Thinking of You for those curious. Will listen again.

What an incredible mix of strings and orchestral arrangements and synth sounds from that era. Nike Rodgers' guitar playing is phenomenal. Sense of rhythm and timing is impeccable.

Nile Rodgers cannot miss.

Disco. Not my genre, but I'm happy to acknowledge that Nile Rodgers is a genius (and a lovely man).

- Incredibly catchy. - Fun, energetic. - It was cool listening to the "He's the greatest dancer" and realizing that the opening is the sample used in "Getting Jiggy With It"

solid. I don't like this style of music, and yet found myself bopping along anyway.

Truly perfect: I clicked play and knew exactly what I had got myself into. When you want a solid pop/fuck/soul album with some true feel good party classics then you play this album. The whole thing just makes you want to dance and sing along, god listening to this in silence without much of a reaction is hard. The bass, that funky guitar, THE VOCALS?!? Perfect.

Totally awesome great groove

Discooooo!!! For en fest. Så godt som alle sangerne på dette albumet er top-shelf. Løv.

Fabulous mix and arrangements. Timeless piece that takes disco to its most exquisite expression.

What an absolutely delightful listen. I started the day with this album then continued with funky disco all day. He's the Greatest Dancer is one of my favorite 70s hits, and we all know the title song. We are Family reminds me of the movie The Bird Cage...soooo fabulous! And Nile Rodgers is largely responsible for making music funky & popular across the decades - Chic, Duran Duran, and Daft Punk to name a few. What a great disco album. I hope to see more of this. 4.5 stars

This was a great listen. Great way to start the day.

Generally, I'm not a fan of disco. It's fine to dance to, but it often sounds too bloated and shiny - like a club I wouldn't be allowed into. So it was a huge surprise how much I liked this album. Compared to Chic and their like, it was gritty and real. You could hear the instruments being played, occasional grit and funk in the vocals, lyrics that showed a bit more depth than just "let's party". I'd always had Sister Sledge down as somewhat of a novelty band, but this will absolutely be getting played again. A clear 5 stars.

Beautiful classic..

Album full of bangers. Very fun!

Oh man it took me back to the fun funk of the 70s!

So funky and groovy! This album is a bop. There's a few tracks I knew in their original form, and a few I know from other tracks sampling them. Sometimes I get a bit surprised while listening to albums on the list and I hear a song that I only knew from other songs sampling it. This happened with One More Time - I knew it from KAYTRANADA's "Twin Flame", possibly my favourite song of 2022. Never knew it sampled Sister Sledge, but now I know! Either way, this was an excellent album, with some absolute disco classics. Enjoyable throughout. Favourite: We Are Family

oooh yeah, wonderful; its the mellow groove - yes, smooth on every warm loving track. I am going to have to be careful not to overplay this now...

One of the greatest most funkiest albums ever, incredible listen

Classics all the way; such a vintage vibe. Must be one of the most sampled albums—at least a couple of the songs I know better from subsequent sampled versions.

Yeah I dig this disco shit. Absolutely adore the rhythm and flow of this album. I've started to notice that a lot of disco - this album included - is about an appreciation of music in general and I love that so much. "Lost in music, caught in a trap, no turning back, lost in music" is a great way to describe the feeling of discovery and why I like this list. It's great living in a time where it's chill to like both Metal and Disco without starting a gang war. 5

Didn't realise how many classics were on this one album. Great and enjoyable listen, full of great disco classic songs.

No skips. Absolutely fantastic listening.

What a great place to start! A nice mix of disco, funk, and 70s R&B. The vocals and harmonies are absolutely beautifully. The bass riffs are so groovy. Nile Rogers on guitar is killing it. Overall, I really enjoyed this album. Standout songs: He’s the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, Somebody Loves Me, We Are Family, and You’re a Friend to Me.

BEAUTIFUL

Love this kind of R&B album

Love this album. Thinking of You is one of my favourite songs. Classic Nile.

Disco deee-light! There are some pretty awesome numbers here beyond the classic title song, making this a pretty stellar album.

Livin' life was SO fun listening to this album!

A few facts about the song We Are Family: 1. It is on my top 10 list of favorite songs. 2. It's one of very few that I can safely claim to know all the words to. 3. The "hey-hey-hey-hey-yah" on the chorus after the first verse is maybe my favorite moment in pop music. 4. I went to a dance convention in 1979 and learned a dance to this song and to this day, every time they sing "I got all my sisters with me," my brain says "brush-hop-step, brush-hop-step" in rhythm. Anyway...it's so great to get a legit, straight-up disco album. The upbeat songs are divinely danceable and the slow jams have lovely lead vocals and rich back-up voices. Moreover, the love grooves lack the faux earnestness that such songs often display, tending to make me more uncomfortable than anything. The ballads on this album were sweet and authentic and just as appealing as the dance tracks. A really great album!

The incredible sound of Chic covered in those perfect Sister Sledge voices? No wonder this album towers over the disco era. Three of the songs on this have been among my favorites since the moment I heard them (He’s The Greatest Dancer, Lost In Music, We are Family). I don’t recall hearing any of the other songs on this, but they were love at first listen. So great!

Another one where I was delighted when it appeared for me and knew would be 5 stars. Niles Rodgers reckons this is the best Chic team album, and I can't say that I disagree with him. Still filling dancefloors everywhere. You need this record in your life.

bom dms 5/5

Oh we love a good funky album here. mellow at certain points too, but full of soul and beautiful vocals.

Fantastic, timeless, and grovy

Came very close to giving this a 4 for a couple of tracks near the end but upon listening again it's gotta be a 5. This is proper "everything's gone to shit I can't get any work and I don't want to" 70s dystopia disco right here. The escape from reality. Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers is a killer combo, but it's worth remembering that at this point in their career they were making a name for themselves, they're not playing it safe so much as developing a brand. /rant

Fun fun fun

Now I’m living in Exeter!

i got all my sisters with me, which is easy, because I don't have any

Solid pop, listens like a best of.

I love this album, defining album of the end of disco.

Trop bon, disco a letat pure avec guiyare a niles rodgers 5*

This one bops. Feels nice to give a good rating.

Absolute classic disco Every song is a must have on any party playlist Up there as one of the greatest disco ablums

Brilliant

Full of bangers!

Clasic, dance... Dance...

Absolutely groovy and good mood songs. Bass lines that make you wanna dance. Big 4.5 / 5

Great album! Can't go wrong with the funk of Nile Rodgers and the steady baselines of Edwards, but together with the Sledge sisters it is just awesome. The remixes on the remastered album were not my thing, but the original album is just perfect!

An amazing album. Every song had a groovy bass line, catchy vocals, and was a blast to listen too

Awesome!

Partyyyy

cute love the voices and the sound. great album didnt know them before.

Wonderful rythms with female voices. I would listen to it again and again

Like a greatest hits album, the perfect Chic Organisation album - the trademark sound in full flow, double electric guitar, complex bass parts and beautiful vocals. And, sure, the uptempo tracks are more enjoyable than the ballads but what a party.

ALL of these songs are amazing! Classic!

It's a bonus Chic album. There's even an argument to say it's the best Chic album, high praise indeed. You know how songs get overplayed on the radio, you love them for decades and then get sick of them? Well that's not possible here, as these are some of the greatest pop songs even written. Hearing them in their full glory, 5-6 minutes long, just adds to the joy. Annoyingly only the 7" version of We are Family is available on Spotify, you need the record or YouTube for the majestic full 8 minutes (only this one link seems to have the correct tempo) which needs to be experienced. The bass work is simply out of this world. https://youtu.be/FLRvVZ_Q1Iw If you don't like disco, even just a little bit, I just don't think we're going to get along. Absolutely stunning. One of the easiest 5 ratings in this whole project.

Such a classic - remembering when I was younger me and my family would dance to ‘we are family’ how things change

No skips. Iconic.

Rating: 9/10 Best songs: He’s the greatest dancer, Lost in music, Thinking of you, You’re friend to me, One more time

So many R&B/Disco classics that I would never have found if not for today’s recommendation. ‘Lost In Music’ is by far my favourite, with that smooth riff and heavy bass. ‘One More Time’ finishes on a high, with the symmetry of sounds throughout the album.

incredible R&B. The bass, sweepy guitars and strings alone make this a 5. everything else is gravy. End of the album isn't as strong, but not enough to drag this down a star.

Disco will never die.

Definitely a great album to boogie too. Obviously the main song everybody knows, but the other songs in this album are just as good!

Chic in all but name and therefore utter shining perfection.

Surprisingly good!

Worth five stars just for the guitar. Classic album.

Fucking mega album

Really great album, pretty much start to finish. Wasn't the greatest fan of some of the slower songs in between, but liked that it was generally swinging and upbeat :)

The vibes on this album are so immaculate. Extremely fun sounds and would be great at house parties.

Classic disco

Great album all the way through!

var ekki með miklar væntingar þar sem mér finnst titillagið vera frekar boring, en allt utan þess á þessari plötu er alveg yndislegt, mjög skemmtilegt að hlusta á þessa plötu (aftur - án aðal lagsins, ég er ekki fan af því). 5 stjörnur svona tbh, easy listening, very nice!

Sister Sledge is a force. Their harmonies are effortless and their melodies are fire. Could listen to this album for hours.

Kicks off with a fantastic beat, which the Artist Formerly Known As There French Prince wisely sampled for Gettin'Jiggy Wit It. Only gets better from there.

Phenomenal.

Delicious soul & disco vocal register.

SO BOUNCY!!!! luvved it. best song was the opening lwk "he's the greatest dancer"! i luved it....and the sisters!!!! it was fab

adored it!

I'm not very well-versed in disco but I'm digging this album. Amazing vocal performances and the instrumentals are incredibly layered and catchy.

Wat was dit genieten

Heerlijk funky, no skips

One of my favourite Sister Sledge / Chic albums. Two out of 8 songs still sound a bit like fillers to me (Somebody Loves Me and Easier To Love) but the other six songs are really great.

this is already a whole mood and i love it - this makes for great easy listening and grooving

Another disco classic

2. We Are Family - Sister Sledge. 12 Tracks. What an absolutely stupendous album!!!! Yet this is something I would never actually choose to listen to. I will now! @1001_albums_gen has already been worthwhile. 5/5.

Really enjoyed this album

Made me say 'YES'!!! Music from back when I was alive

One of the all time greats

Who doesn't love some motown/disco

It's one thing to always hear about how R&B has influenced music and been sampled so much over time, it is another to listen to the albums yourself. I am a big fan of R&B and the voice really adds to the flow, here it is perfect. I have nothing against this album, for uniformity sake I am not including the remixes included in the remaster as well I don't take that as a part of the original album. I find this simple, smooth and sweet, never once boring, never not groovy. Absolutely no qualms with the album. Banger of a closing too. 5/5

pretty good. old vibes i liked it a lot

Banger central 🕺🏻

classics

Greatest dancer might be one of the greatest songs ever

How much more cool can it get!

Great funk album!

Stunning. Amazing. Love this album.

Nile rogers guitar playing is so iconic. Love this disco album

Some big tunes on here

Is there anything more perfect than the opening of Thinking of You?

Solid funky album

Amazing album, every song is great. some classic songs on here!

What a corker, only dropped to 4 stars as not all the songs grabbed me.

funky, humano studio would play this the last few edits were p good too

Banger🔥🔥🔥

This album was pretty cool. I tossed up whether or not it was worth 4 stars and ultimately I think it is. Funky stuff. Strong, energetic, direct, altogether a great album / band who I'd never really given a second thought to.

Sympa comme tout

An interesting question with these reviews is always to what extent one should take the historical context into account. Take, for example, this album, “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge: on the one hand, it’s so quintessentially ’70s disco that it just sounds completely cheesy at first. But beneath that, you’ll find an outstanding vocal group that combines R&B and funk into something (at the time) new - and even borrowed the groove machine (in the form of Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards - and, to be fair, Tony Thompson as well) from Chic. Ultimately, as is so often the case, we’re in the “actually pretty cool, but after a few songs it gets predictable - 3.5 stars” league here. Yesterday I gave the Beatles a very solid three for a comparable album (Hard Day’s Night) - today, it’s probably time for a narrow four again. This ambiguity is probably unavoidable

Now THAT'S some Funky stuff

I’m sort of surprised that “We are Family” is the only song that I recognize in their catalog. So weird. Clearly talented.

Highlights: He’s The Greatest Dancer, We Are Family, Thinking of You. In a nutshell: “get up everybody…” We’re at the tail end of disco, friends. And right here we got ourselves the best album of a singles genre. Rhythm section is ace, slick vocals, great production. Now get your ass on that dance floor. Overall: 7/10

The title track is a 5 star banger! The rest are 3s

Mega mega mega hit aside… A. Damn does Niles bass bounce. B. Hoping now that we are at a very different cultural moment this list can give discos revolutionary social/cultural impact some respect. Not a bad place to start imo.

88/100. Right from the jump, you can totally feel Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards working their magic. The guitar work is funky, the basslines are outstanding and together they create grooves that are almost impossible to sit still through. Every single track feels like it was engineered specifically to get you moving, loaded with the kind of infectious melodies and hooks that still hold up decades later. There is a massive reason these tracks became legendary disco anthems. At the end of the day, music does not always need deep symbolism or hidden meanings to be amazing. Sometimes the whole point is just to make people dance, smile and have an absolute blast. There is a strange pressure for art to justify itself through seriousness. Happiness has never needed that permission.

Come for the fantastic vocals, leave a bit early for the disco

Huvitav oleks kokku lugeda, kui mitu sample'it on siit albumit tulnud. Igaljuhul ikooniline plaat ikooniliste lugudega. Funki entusiastile kohustuslik kuulamine. 3.8/5

I really love this, it's the first time I hear their music but it intsantly transported me to that diskoteka era my mom told me about, even with parts of blues. Too bad she didnt get to live the full experience of that era, and me, I long for a time I didnt even live. But that's why this music was special, it traveled in time to reach me. I love it

Wow what an album. I’m familiar with the singles but the other tracks are as strong. Even if this isn’t your preferred genre of music, you have no soul if you don’t like it.

Incredible album, all the tracks are excellent, it's a classic. 12/12

excellent 4.5+/5

Feel good pop disco, it’s easy to like. There are also a couple of slow balads, they don’t work for me. Favourites: He’s The Greatest Dancer, Lost In Music, We Are Family

so nice hearing we are family within the context of the rest of the album, and also this beautiful album cover. loved: he's the greatest dancer + easier to love and especially somebody loves me.

Great album - fundamental to disco, some feelings of repeat but generally great Fave songs - Lost in Music, We Are Family

Listen on: Spotify (1995 remaster) Listening experience: Protracted First female album of the project! Also first disco album. Really enjoyed listening to it and would put this on again.

So groovy smoooooooth, loved it, 4

I know the "we are family" song and its an iconic song but the album was also really good I liked it

Anything involving Nile Rodgers gets at least 4 stars.

sunky reference pretty good consistent disco record

Imagine loving music so much you’d quit your 9-5. Now imagine writing a whole song about it. That’s “we love the music”. In fact, there’s quite a lot of meta music about loving music and dance, and people. Sister Sledge- OG lover girls. The majority of the album bounces and funks along in typical 70s ballads and disco modes, but it’s super tight instrumentation that compliments the awesome voice of Kathy sledge. She is a really incredible singer with the perfect voice for this kind of music. Easy to see why it resonated with audiences of the day. Every guitar phrase and fat bass line also sound straight out of a daft punk sample too, groovy baby. Really enjoyed this one, even if they make you earn the eternal hit “we are family” by placing it in the middle of the album ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sure, I get the 'disco sucks' stuff - this is when the music industry as commercial, cynically product-focused behemoth really started kicking in - but you know Nile's getting you on the floor (even if it meanders a bit once the hits are through).

Awesome album

Great album! Beautiful singing, fun songs and great bass. I think it being short did it well as there wasn't a ton of variety and it did not wear out its welcome.

Didn’t know Will Smith sampled from ‘em! Absolute banger of an album, got me dancin’

This is fun

May 29th, 2026 Standouts: We Are Family, thinking of you, you’re a friend to me

i really enjoyed this album! many of the songs are stable in what i'd categorize as "disco" and i also discovered that one of my favorite techno songs was all but a cover of their "Thinking of You". definitely a pioneer of their times and a still loved/appreciated group!

we are family (the song) suffers from extreme overplay in american culture, but i actually really liked the rest of the tracks off of this album especially he’s the greatest dancer and you’re a friend to me. awesome tracks

I had fun listening to this. Liked it

Well that was fun. Over the years have been led by the generalised view put out by” the disco sucks” thing (white rock critics?) and not really heard a lot, yeah the singles over the years were on radio etc. but always fed the line it was inferior to “ proper” music. That’s on me. What absolute bull shit. This has Chic Edward’s and Rodger’s production, sophisticated arrangements cleverly disguised as danceable infectious grooves. Reading on the “disco sucks” thing and it was more about rock music elitism, prejudice and then the usual corporate bandwagon let’s milk the thing. Not the actual highs of the music. But this is just a good record. Good music.4 Star

Fun and easy to listen to. Great instrumentation. Nile Rodgers on guitar makes anything better. Would listen again for sure

4 star, some cracking tunes on here

Some excellent disco tunes. Takes me back to when I was 10. Timeless.

Bit of top quality disco.

I never realised how many iconic tracks were jammed together on a single album; for some, I imagine this is disco-incarnate with "He's The Greatest Dancer", "Lost in Music", "Thinking of You", "We Are Family" and "One More Time". This is simply 'feel good music', with groovy basslines, straight drumming and swanky guitars. All the hallmarks of good, fun disco music. That said, which I realise I say a lot, disco generally has a tendency to hit the same beats and notes each time to maintain that upbeat vibe that it's known for; it lacks the variation I often look for. Still, the sheer joy each track brings and work it puts in to keep the party going deserves respect.

Wow I knew every one of these songs. And I never heard about Sister Sledge. That's influence for you.

groovin'

Solid, even the tracks I didn't already know.

If you told a 14 year old me one day I’d be rating Sister Sledge 4 stars and Oasis only 2, I would have thought you were mad but I’m a bit of a sucker for Nile Rodgers recent years. I have to say I’m more of a fan of Chic than Sister Sledge but I guess it’s 2 sides of the same coin in many respects. So many of these songs have been sampled or covered, it is clear the influence they’ve had.

This album just brings out so much joy!

Love the 70s stuff!

I haven't had a disco album in a good long time on this. I hope it's catchy and fun, which is what you want from disco. It is generally pretty catchy and funky. You can clearly tell that this was music meant for dance parties, as the songs all have tight rhythms and funky bass lines. The lyrics are just OK, but that's not too important for this genre. The vocal harmonies are very good, and so is the guitar. However, this album feels like it's missing something. It doesn't feel like a great album, but rather a good one. There's clearly musical merit here, but it's missing the spark that made the Chic song "Good Times" absolutely legendary despite basically being a Chic album. Even the title track just feels like good rather than great. I can't help but feel a little disappointed.

Those 4 songs from the 1st 5 tracks on here got me singing along, “I’m thinking of you” is such a great upbeat song, I remember the band from nightclub visits from years gone by

Had no idea Nile Rodgers produced this. Great gem that I never got the chance to listen to. Will be on regular rotation.

a huge aspect of my familys favorite albums. although memories of this album are usually clouded by bad memories, the funk, cadence, and tone is an essential 70s album. truly good, painfully catchy.

funky, bops, and great vocals.

This was a very fun album to listen to. Very groovy songs that are fun to listen to. 4/5 at minimum. 4.5 would be ideal.

Their third album. Disco / Funk. One of the funkiest and discoest albums out there. Great vocals and the beats and melodies are impossible to not want to dance to. The production is pretty slick too.

Classic

Música Funk, disco, Soul. De mis géneros favoritos por lo tanto muy disfrutable, me han recordado a los Jackson 5. Álbum corto no contando con los remix, así que muy digerible. 8 sólido

I had never listened to this before although I had heard several songs that were (and still are?) popular. I really liked the entire album. It's one of those that the sum of the whole is more than any single hits. I would probably listen to this again and might even buy it

Ok, this actually slaps

Classic disco and awesome vocals.

Preferred the more upbeat classics to the slower paced ballads, but the latter are still performed well. Enjoyed the album and would listen to it again.

Love this

Soulful banger I loved it

solid 4. disco divertido

This is a fun album, smooth and so well performed. It also came out at a time where disco was turning into the 80's pop sound, so it has the bounce without too much of the disco. Also, the R&B is still more of the classic style, which I prefer over when it evolved in the 80's. Just, overall, a very good album.

This such a fun funky album, how could i not love it?! Obviously I knew the title track, but the rest were just as great!

You could tell me this was made today and I'd believe you. Very fun

Super funky super influential, great album

groovy

Soaring

Disco at its best.

Actually really enjoyed it.

Infectious. I can't say enough positive about Chic here. Excellent music, and the vocals aren't too shabby either. The ladies sound like they're having fun and are just as into the groove as I am. Disco doesn't suck. I was less a fan of the slower stuff toward the 3, so I'm deducting a bit ⭐⭐⭐.75

Beautiful voices and really fun to listen 🕺💃

Excellent disco music. Very tight and groovy rhythm section. Scratchy guitar is so contagious.

This bangs

A lovely bit of business on a sunny Friday afternoon

A 3.5 roundes up.

I actually listened to this album for the first time like a week ago and this was a good second listen. I am huge fan of funk and disco and this is an iconic album for the genres. I'm not the biggest fan of some of the slower songs, but overall solid album Favorite Track - He's The Greatest Dancer Least Favorite Track - Somebody Loves Me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Disco is cool

Mi gusta un sacco, mi immagino su una cabriolet in california o in camper con rocco e nico, o a cucinare le patate al forno. Non è gaso ma è benessere, non è campari ma un bicchiere di vino, le luci soffuse e girare intorno alla stanza.

Many hits on one album. Good disco. 8/10

There is a pantheon of songs that have been abused as background music for the worst movie trailer of the summer. Send Me On My Way. Solsbury Hill. And probably at the top sits Sister Sledge's “We Are Family.” which, ok, kinda cheesy, but unfairly pigeonholed. It's proper anthemic, it's proper funky, and those harmonies that suddenly burst up the scale (“get up everybody and SING”)... it's also 8 minutes long. This is the era of that sort of vamp, I suppose. And it's not like it is alone here… there's a similar conceptual vibe in You're a Friend To Me, so it all fits together. The album proper? Well, it starts with a groove so good that Will Smith stole it. It has Nile Rodgers’ fingers all over it. It straddles 70s soul and tolerable disco with just a thin coating of funk. It's dated in a fun way. The remaster desperately wants me to listen to a half hour of remixes for We Are Family and Lost in Music, and no, no thank you, but I do think this is surprising enough to slip into 4* territory

This list has made me realize I affirmatively don't like a lot of things I was previously indifferent to - hello RHCP deep cuts and any number of 90s Britpop albums - but the biggest surprise is how much I like the dudes in Chic. This is not the 5 star run that I've been giving the Chic albums but pretty darn close. Sorry if I've ever disrespected you disco.

When Nile Rodgers is involved, it's almost always great!

Like ts, it kinda reminds me of Madonna but either way more disco. The first few songs were great.

Groovy funk fun for the whole family

Heerlijk album om te luisteren. Voor veel gelegenheden geschikt. Echte disco vibes. Prettig geluid en mooie stemmen. Remixen zijn niet beter dan het origineel

This was a great find

Man I Love Disco

Entre disco y soul muy buen álbum

Echt een leuke warme vibe! Goed album voor achtergrondruis 8/10

1. "He's the Greatest Dancer" 2. "Lost in Music" 3. "We Are Family"

Exactly how much influence did Nile Rodgers have on this era of disco? Guy was producing and playing guitar everywhere. That shouldn't take away from the talent that the Sledge sisters showcased here on vocals either. There's a good mix of energetic and upbeat singles made for the dance floor, with slower and more tender tracks sprinkled throughout. An essential disco album all things considered.

nice and easy listening

no sabia que de aca venian tantas canciones tan buenas, wow

Fun and stylish, everything was great. Production is top tier, instrumentally it's rich and funky, the vocals are obviously amazing. There is a contrast in love ballads and dance music on this record and I appreciate it.

Funky times.

This is stacked

That opening riff! I had no idea that it was Sister Sledge. Although truth be told, I’m a 90s kid so the first time I ever heard it was being sampled by Will Smith on “Gettin’ Jiggy With It.” The title track holds a special place in my heart because it was an anthem for my mother and her sisters growing up. I also really liked “Lost in the Music.” All in all a great album. Truly a vibe.

Such a fun album and great vibes for a Monday after a holiday weekend, had me dancing at my desk. Helped me realize just how much I love disco 🪩🕺🏼

so fun

Super talented musicians, particularly the singing! Some of the songs sounded very dated/disco- but I found a lot of the album really stood up. Can’t go wrong with great vocals, layered harmonies and danceable music.

Beautiful funk and disco album.

I really enjoyed most of this album, it had a really nice danceable funk going

The first half of this album is full of hits. Greatest Dancer needs to make a comeback as the man's version of Dancing Queen. I'm absolutely happy to be Lost in Music. Nothing needs to be said about the title track as it is a pure work of genius. Then we get to the second half of the album and things go off the rails a bit enough to knock this down to a 4.5 stars, rounded down.

Great disco tunes!

Nile and Bernard getting jiggy wit it like the funky kings they are.

Ótrúlega skemmtilegt. Fyrri helmingurinn betri, en restin samt solid.

Tosi hyvällä meiningillä lähtee liikkeelle. Coolii skittaa. Ja svengi jatkuu. Vähä hempeämpää matskua välissä. Miellyttävä levy.

Niien tunnisti jo kaukaa, menevä levy. Nimikkokappale tuttu, muttei hajua että tämmösen artistin

main character in a romcom vibe

Always

Finally! After a week of shoe-gazing drivel, something funky and fun.

Listened to the song we are family so much as a kid. The other songs on this album are very good as well

Groovy basslines

Was never a fan of Disco at and I did roll my eyes when this came up but the whole point is to listen to things you would never pick. I'm still not a fan of Disco after listening to this but damn this album is filled with floor filling bangers. Good work Ladies, it's not my thing but I *have* to respect it.

Amazing stuff especially reminder of how many modern songs sample these old artist

Got this album and went "hell yeah man". Let me be clear up front. If you're out there sitting in some sad hole in 2026 and still spouting that Steve Dahl disco sucks shit, in this order, you need to: -go fuck yourself -get off the van mccoy disco duck garbage you asshole and pick up some CHIC BABYYYYYY Hope the ghost of Bernard Edwards shows up in the night and smacks you around a bit before seducing your parents. Album is sick. Easy 4, probably like 4.5. Only complaint I have is the keys on You're a Friend to Me are a little lacking in bite for the groove and chord progression. Should have been waaaay more bluesy/churchy instead of the floaty vibe that was working better on the faster grooves on the album.

not as good as Joni Mitchell’s Blue

Fun and funky, it's impossible to not grove along to this. And at a tight 44 minutes, it's a quick listen. I knew "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family," but "Thinking of You" was new to me and I loved the slap bass.

Tremendisimo, clasico de clasicos del Funk

Bangers

Love it

This is some disco I can get behind. It has funky riffs and danceable beats. Thinking of You We Are Family

When you've got Nile Rodgers and Chic as your backing band then it's hardly going to be bad, is it? I mean, they produced Bowie's biggest chart toppers, didn't they? It's easy to turn your nose up at disco and wave your "Disco Sucks" banner, but this is gold standard disco. Four bangers in eight tracks. "We are Family" is an anthem and 3½ minutes of purest Pleasure. "He's the Greatest Dancer" is not that far behind. "Lost in Music" is driven along by Niles and his guitar and a thumping bass line. "Thinking of You" is a bass line Heaven. Of the other tracks on the album only "Somebody Loves Me" drags a bit, although, as an end of the night, "slow dance before he takes her home" sort of thing it's probably peerless. No-one is saying its deep. We're not talking Mahler. But it's an absolutely exquisite bauble.

There's at least three stone cold bangers on this album. Sure almost every song is a minute too long and it probably could have had an extra song in there, but maybe this was all the best material they had. Solid pop stuff, of the Disco variety.
