I used to listed to this alot!!
Fantastic album
full of bangers, just peak no notes
Not a whole lot to complain about with this one. It's got a whole string section, for crying out loud. It's some good music to relax to with a classic at every obnoxiously white party right in the middle of it. Sometimes the album was a little too easy to tune out, especially with the lyrics, but it was a great album. Past that I don't have a lot to say.
This one is a bit strange for me because while it's hailed as groundbreaking, a classic, legendary, et cetera, it's still pretty much a pop record. Influence 5. Quality 4. Intangibles 4. Hits 5. Of course I have to break the tie. Sigh. 4
I’m convinced the ‘Disco Sucks’ movement in the late 70s was started by a bunch of assholes who hate fun, cause all the disco stuff I’ve listened to on this list has been pretty good, and this album fits that description. Everyone knows the forever wedding reception staple title track, but there are four songs on here that are way better than that tune, especially the opener. You’ll have a hard time not moving your body to this record. Solid 4/5
Banger after banger - even though most of the tracks are so familiar, it’s great to hear them all together on the album. Favourite track: Lost in Music
album intro long af but dope. good vibes. Saved thinking of you, lost in music, and he's the greatest dancer. obv I have heard we are family before, its a good song but its overplayed now.
Great vocals, love the sisters. Today's bird: Red-headed Woodpecker
Easy breezy beautiful
Absolute fire
Can’t go wrong with Nile Rodgers and this era of disco. Exactly my vibe. We are family is probably the worst song and that’s saying something
First off, the production on this thing is tight. Listening to Sister Sledge reminds you of why Daft Punk chose to sample their 1982 song "Il Macquillage Lady" for their 2001 track "Aerodynamic" from the Discovery album. The opener is a banger. Great track with tight grooves. The slow ballad Somebody Loves Me is also a joy to listen to and a nice break from the funk of the 2 last tracks. Thinking of you is okay but not my favourite on the first half of the record. We Are Family is a classic and the most well known track on the album. It’s played a lot on tv and films etc sometimes as a parody. It’s a fun track to be played imo in a party context. But it’s probably my least favourite cut on the record. Easier to Love is fantastic. That little flute thing in the back of the groove is killer. You’re a Friend To Me starts almost with a reggae bass groove melded with the funk and disco of the record. It then goes into this R&B gem of a track. It’s a great cut. The closer is just okay. Not a strong finish to the record but decent nonetheless. He’s The Great Dancer 10 Lost In Music 9 Somebody Loves Me 9 Thinking Of You 9 We Are Family 6 Easier to Love 9 You’re a Friend to Me 8 One More Time 7 8.38/10
4/5!
A banger and some decent disco
Their harmonies are spot on and the enthusiasm in the songs makes you want to jump up and dance!
The album version of We Are Family is great!
I saw this and said "Are we really going through an entire album for one song????" but then loved most of this album. "Lost in Music" was my favorite.
Top quality disco but mainly for the hits
vivan las mujeres, los bajos y el r&b, pero chale con los fade out de esa época jsjajaja
Day 202 Music is fucking ace really isn’t it? Worlds gone to shit and it can still make you feel great. Highlights Lost in Music We are Family You’re a Friend to Me
++++
It's a happy day when you listen to sister sledge :) Fave: He's The Greatest Dancer, We Are Family
Oh wow, almost a whole album of "ohhh it's THAT song"
RIP Gene Hackman. I'll never be able to hear the song "We are Family" without thinking of your role in "The Birdcage". I hear a lot of influence from Sister Sledge in other tunes. Pretty sure "Getting Jiggy With It" ripped off the hook from "He's the Greatest Dancer". On the whole, This album is very good. Adding "We Are Family" to the playlist, obviously.
Dancy fun.
8/10 - best Disco album so far
Say what you want about Will Smith's rap career at least he had some pretty good samples, including using the "He's the Greatest Dancer" riff for "Gettin Jiggy With It." The Nile Rodgers guitar on here is slick and the hits are good, less filler than the Chic albums I already got on this list.
We Are Family is a timeless disco classic that perfectly captures the energy and spirit of its era. From the very first track, the album delivers an infectious groove, driven by tight rhythms, rich basslines, and vibrant vocals. It’s the kind of record that feels both polished and effortlessly fun, with a sound that still holds up remarkably well today. What stands out most is the sheer number of standout tracks, there’s hardly a dull moment. Each song brings its own flavor while maintaining a cohesive, danceable vibe throughout. I listened to the original CD pressing (R2 71587), and there’s nothing in particular to note about the mastering, it’s solid and does the job without drawing attention to itself. Overall, a strong album and a must-listen for anyone interested in classic disco. 8/10
Classic end of the disco era tunes.
FUUNKY!! GROOOVY!!
Comme une envie de mettre des rollers et enfiler des pantalons pattes d'eph ! Cet album disco funky nous fait swinguer et nous appelle à danser ! La boule disco est déjà installée, plus qu'à s'ambiancer ! Note : 4 À réécouter : Oui
Good old time
I enjoyed the upbeat R&B sound,
I love Disco, this is a chill disco album with what I consider 2 great hits. The rest of the songs are good but nothing amazing. It's a quick album though and I would listen to it any day of the week, it's just not blowing me away!
Really funky intro to the album with He’s the Greatest Dancer. Love the double layered guitar track. Such a groovy lick. Vocals and brass tie up so well together in this one. Really like the high vocal melody in the chorus. The instrumental outro is so good in this. It’s so damn repetitive but you actually just don’t care it’s that good. This track somehow feels a lot longer than it actually is, probably due to how repetitive it is, but this is a good thing in this case. Lost in Music keeps up the grooviness but shifts into a slower tempo and smoother rhythm. I’m loving what sounds like the strummed octaves and percussives wedged in between. Real prominent vocals coming in over this. SUCH enunciated vocals. Really phenomenal. Interesting at this point I’ve not heard anything in the way of a real bridge in any of these tracks. I suppose that’s maybe a staple of disco, will be interesting to see in the upcoming ones if this changes. We drop the tempo yet again with Somebody Loves Me to give a much more dreamy soulful sound to the track. The mood this creates really ties up with the nostalgic reminiscing described in the lyrics. Gently played piano in the background. Ah I really really love this one. Sister Sledge ADORE a slow fade out. Jesus Christ. The PERCUSSIVES on Thinking of You in the intro. I LOVE IT. Oh. The slight little pause before breaking into the chorus. I didn’t realise I was such a Sister Sledge fan. This is amazing. I love the little instrumental breaks they’re taking instead of a defined bridge. I didn’t realise this was THAT song from the intro. Love the really prominent piano in the intro. And of course the instantly recognisable chorus. First time actually listening to a verse of this song. The backing bass line is very very subtle but really packs a beat. I actually got a little bit distracted with the intro to Easier To Love. I think I'm finding this with some albums that first such a strong specific theme and really tie themselves in to a strict genre is that it’s easy to zone out between songs. This isn’t necessarily bad? Things just kind of blend together? Not much to say about You’re a Friend to Me for that same reason. Good track though. Bit more of a pickup in pace and tone for the outro to this album. Finishing on the same high the album began with. Overall a really really good album, another 4 stars. Highlight of the record was Thinking of You for me, don’t have any complaints about any of the rest!
An absolute gem! Roger’s and Edward’s bring the beat Fave tracks: He’s the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, Thinking of You
Actual rating: 3.5/5

Classic disco goodness. Very easy to listen to.
solid stuff, ladies!
Other than We are Family I am not very familiar with Sister Sledge's music. This album starts with that amazing bass line and guitar in He's the Greatest Dancer. I can understand why Will Smith lifted it. From there it peaks with We are Family. I enjoyed listening to this one. This is a good album, disco or otherwise.
Top Textzeile: I Fell so alive, i quit my 9 to 5 Slappendester Bass, jedes Lied hat sich kurz vor Ende so in sich selbst verliebt, dass es nicht enden möchte. Schön, aber oft würde ich das nicht hören
A bunch of fun. Makes me want to watch “The Birdcage” again.
vraiment bien
Nile rodgers heavily influenced album from the first chord. 5 really great tracks, the others a bit mundane. Drums are a bit unimaginative in most of the songs. I do like his production on this though.
Funky disco vibes are off the chart thanks to Nile Rodgers, and it's been ripped to shreds for samples, like the 1:00 intro to "He's The Greatest Dancer" gives you more than enough time to insert the opening verse of Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy With It" assuming those lyrics have been burned into your memory for the last near 30 years, but I digress... The album is a celebration of pure, joyful energy, anchored by powerhouse vocal harmonies and timeless bangers like "Lost In Music" and "Thinking Of You" that prove this group is far more than just that "We Are Family" one hit wonder.
Hit after hit. Doesn’t sound dated either - just great tunes all round.
Classic
“Caught in a trap No turnin’ back We’re lost in music” Upbeat, joyful, and relentlessly fun “We Are Family” was a pleasure to listen to. It contains Sister Sledge’s three most famous tracks “He’s the Greatest Dancer”, “Lost In Music”, and of course “We Are Family”. It is easy to see why these three are the big hits but almost all of the rest of the songs are just as good at getting you moving. I listened to this while strapped into an incredibly small airplane seat and even that couldn’t stop me from moving my whole body to the rhythm. The only real low point for me was the slower “Somebody Loves Me” which, while not a bad song, fades into mild obscurity in comparison to the rest of the album. An essential listen for any fans of Funk, Disco, or Soul and one that I’m sure will yield tremendous replay value.
FUNKY!! DISCO!! great stuff
Some MINT disco. Honestly the famous title track might be my least favourite here, and its a solid track so that says something.
Close to flawless as a disco album. 4.5
Love me some disco, love me some Nile Rogers. I didn't love the slower songs but most were the perfect energizing backdrop for my workday.
Nice disco album, to be added to my collection
Belting tunes with those irresistible Nile grooves.
WE ARE FAMILY✨️✨️✨️
Not a big fan of the titular song. Likely due to its overplayed status in pop culture. But the rest of the album was surprisingly good.
Love ittt
Listens: 3 Standout tracks: He's the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music Another groovy disco album. We Are Family (the song) has been played to death, but other than this song, which it's still perfectly fine, and the fact that there are four remix songs tacked onto the album that begin overstay their welcome, this was a solid album to listen to. Disco albums get high marks in my book so far. The genre feels timeless.
Timeless disco sound
Хороший альбом, приємний звук, не вистачило трохи якихось хуків, і вокал також можна було б цікавіший
Nile Rodgers production A+. Maybe too short?!
Good
4.1 Possibly the best disco album I've heard. Guitar is absolutely incredible (Nile Rogers' work)? Funky beats throughout. Think the titular track might be my least favourite, though I think it's repressed memories of my mum playing it nonstop for the first 10 years of my life. Might have liked it more if it was unknown. Seems too 'easy' though, unlike the first two which are just as funky but feels less overplayed (well, lost in music maybe less so). Only thing letting it down otherwise are the slow tracks - Somebody Loves Me and You're a Friend to me certainly start to drag.
Fantastic stuff, I love disco. Some terrific bass lines.
Funky grooves with enough layers to remain interesting. At its heart, disco is music that aims to be fun and this album is a damn fun listen, so mission accomplished. Sometimes fun is enough, especially when it involves boogying with your daughter. However, this album adds just enough complexity to the music to step it up. Among the better disco albums I’ve heard.
Yurtrrrrrrr
Well we all know the song that gives this album a name. Going in I was not sure about the rest of the tracks though. I was expecting nothing but disco in that vein. But this was a pleasant surprise. ‘Somebody Loves Me’ is a beautiful ballad, totally fits with everything else but what a great surprise. The rest of the songs give more context to ‘We Are Family’, and I might enjoy it more now than I ever did. This is a fun album, if I had company over I’d definitely put this in the rotation.
Really great album. Obviously know lots of these but songs like somebody loves me and easier to love were just as good and deserve lots of recognition. I do think it got a bit repetitive but they all sounded great. I would give 3.75 if possible.
The second artist on this list I've seen live. Nile Rodgers' imperial phase on show here, some of his best work and some of the best pop music ever made. Reminds me of midweek nights out at uni. I would play 'Lost in Music' in the dance today, a proper club record. However I've always struggled with 'We Are Family', feels too much like a novelty song and I can't really put my finger on why.
Si
Pretty good. Pretty influential for others. One banger song. Overall, a good album
That was cool, for the life of me I can't remember who sampled the first song.
Before being in a group here I rated this a 3 although this may have been a bit harsh.. think it just grazes a 4. A couple of songs do drag a bit but on the whole, fantastic disco production from Nile and Bernard.
It’s a blast. I don’t liked every track but he’s the greatest dancer, thinking about you, lost in music make it deserve a 4. Fun!
Great vibes with this one! Not quite 5 stars but it had loads of bangers. The non singles just slightly let it down 4 ⭐️
Wow, the first half of the album is crammed full of bangers! It’s like a Sister Sledge greatest hits package. The 2nd half wains just a little but it’s still a good time(s)
Such a danceable album, enjoyed it a lot even though I don't listen to this type of music
Smooth slick nostagia, loved it
Ta weno
Sister Chad
loove them
Just an absolute hit machine, all funky all good times all of the time. Nile Rodgers is so cool and so important in modern music, he created a sound, a vibe. Best track: Lost in Music
That that good stuff
I think this list might be exposing Freudian insights into my true feelings surrounding disco. On the surface, my general take on the disco era has always been rather negative. Perhaps that is cultural head-binding, or some sort of knee jerk reaction to the glittery shit, perceived corniness, and imagery associated with the movement. But as I listen to more and more disco era records (this one included) I'm forced to concede that the music was damned fun, at times soulful, and (mostly) dancey as fuck. Granted, this is a top-level sampling, so perhaps my conclusions should be delivered with an asterisk. Focusing on the record at hand, I'm only 4 songs in present, but finding myself steadily grooving. Opener He's the Greatest Dancer wastes no time getting things shuffling and Lost in Music is a groove and I love it. Somebody Loves Me deflates the balloon for a tender ballad (not my favorite), but Thinking of You quickly erases the memory with some funky scratch guitar, hand percussion, and a bouncy bass progression that feels similar in a sense to some of the licks on Daft Punk's RAM. Sitting in the middle is their inescapable mega-hit We Are Family. Maybe not the best song here, but it certainly is infectious and fun. The back half of this album drags slightly, but has enough to love. The flutes on Easier to Love feel familiar and One More Time is a jam of a closer. For me this was an enjoyable ride. Soft 4
Another one like ABBA where there is not a single thing wrong about this album. It's an easy listener with some hits. High 3, low 4 area because of the lack of blemishes.
We have been getting some disco funk in bunches recently and I am all about it. The first 2 songs on this were absolutely fantastic. I have loved learning where a lot of these songs I have always known come from, in this case We Are Family. Been very fun listening to the whole albums of personal 1 hit wonders. Easily a high 4, just a few too many duds on here to not get it a 5.
Two Nile Rodgers albums in a week not bad. It's such a classic dancey guitar sound. First two songs are jams. Somebody Loves Me is putting me to sleep. We are Family is a serious jam but we already knew this. Kinda like the Chic album it's groovy but something just feels way to prolonged with some of it. Like it's one long song but not in a great way that it could be. Either way I liked this more than that, but something is missing.
Very fun this makes me want to dance and sing along.
🎶 We are family! 🎶 I’m giving this 4 stars indeed! 🎶
Album was really good I really enjoyed it !
Catchy! Fun!
Good vocals 8/10 2026/1/3
This album kinda reeks of disco. And we'll, disco sucks, right? At least that is what TV taught me in the 90s. But actually, it's got some cool funky guitar on each song, the bass is quite clever and the orchestration isn't too bad either. 'We are Family' is a bit of a bore and the first track has been used in samples since (I am sure), but I didn't actually find this album too bad. I kinda liked it. 4 Stars.
This was actually my very first time listening to an entire Sister Sledge album from beginning to end. So first off, if the actual song “We Are Family” just popped out of existence forever, I definitely wouldn’t miss it. Other than that, this album had some really good tracks that were very influential for modern-day dance and house music. Also, when it comes to Nile Rodgers, his name speaks for itself, and you can always count on getting something of good quality. I’m not going to pretend to be an expert or huge fan of disco, but overall, I enjoyed this album simply for what it is
Nostalgia rubdown
Four of the eight songs are slappers, and I was ready to be let down by the non-hits, but Easier to Love and One More Time are great too.
Shoutout Philadelphia soul, shout out Nile Rodgers. Funky and fun....wasn't expecting a "Gettin' Jiggy With It" sample in the first 5 seconds but here we are. Honestly, this had like 3 tracks I loved, 3 tracks that were good and two that were meh. Some went on a bit long but the talent, groove and vibe is undeniable. 3.5 rounded up to 4 for Philly.
We Are Family is funk, pop, and disco at their absolute best—and it also showcases Nile Rodgers at the peak of his powers. His signature guitar sound is everywhere, and you can clearly hear the DNA of Chic running through the record. This album moves. It’s funky, it swings, and it’s impossible not to want to sing and dance along. The vocals are outstanding—full of joy, confidence, and warmth—while the musicianship is tight, elegant, and effortlessly cool. Sister Sledge sound completely in control, delivering iconic disco-pop that still feels timeless. There are a couple of slower moments that slightly blunt the momentum, but they don’t take away from just how strong and influential this album is. At its best, We Are Family is pure celebration. Favourite tracks: He’s the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, We Are Family – all absolute classics Least favourite track: Somebody Loves Me and You’re a Friend to Me are a bit slow and dull, stopping this from being a full 5/5 Album artwork: A cool, stylish cover that perfectly matches the music inside
Love it
This is groovy as hell. Lost in Music is great, and it often happens to me. I love the slow jams, too. Bass is on point. 4
I love disco. Bernard Edwards' bass playing really carries this album, just as it did the Le Chic album. Great melodies and funkiness all around.
Not my kind of thing but it's clearly very good and I can see how influential it's been. I really like 'Lost In Music'.
Some great grooves and rhythms here. I found myself dancing to this album and I typically don't do that. Nile Rodgers is an underrated guitarist, recognized by more modern crowds for his work with Daft Punk, his work on this album is evidence of his great skill.
Efectivamente, el disco We Are Family es el del tema We Are Family.
My first disco album ever! The only downside of this album, personally, were the slow songs. The livelier ones just packed such a punch that the slower songs fell flat for me. You can't help but dance and move listening to this.
I'm In Love Again, And It Feels So So Good 1001 Albums Generator 185 (12/17/2025) So that's who did that song huh? I had no idea what the original line after "We Are Family" was; I've only ever heard it followed by "even though you're fatter than me". But wow, there are some real bangers here. He's The Greatest Dancer is probably my favorite song; it's just so much fun and is real disco perfection. Definitely had me movin in my cubicle. Lost In Music and Thinking Of You both have some great syncopated guitar. The latter is almost African sounding at times in the beginning. Super interesting. This song also has perhaps the most catchy chorus outside of the title track. But there are some stinkers here, especially the slow songs. Somebody Loves Me and You're A Friend To Me are both a real drag to get through, although they could make good samples. I also just wasn't as into the second half of this album generally. Maybe I just got a bit tired of the disco by the end. It's a pretty good album though. 3.5/5, rounded up to a 4. Favs: He's The Greatest Dancer Thinking Of You We Are Family Least Fav: You're A Friend To Me
All killer, no filler
funkayyy
I was getting jiggy with this from the first beat. What a collection of bangers. Nile Rogers has the Midas Touch.
Great disco album
Awesome but I don’t need an entire album of it
Thinking of You is so underrated.
Oh!
Easy bangers, goes real good with a quiet room with the windows open or even a massive event.
a vibe
The remix tracks are rubbish though.
Love the Sisters!
Wait disco's good?
It's been a while since I've had a Funk/Soul/Disco album. I've missed them! This reminded me of CHIC, of course. Getting all these Nile Rodgers albums through the generator has really made me respect him a lot as the brilliant musician that he is. While I didn't like this one as much as either of the CHIC albums I've gotten, it was still a really good album. One thing that surprised me was how the title track, despite being the biggest hit, was far from the best song. If anything, it drags the album down a bit. Favorite Track: Lost in Music
Excellent R&B/Disco album. Personally I loved the disco tracks more than the slowed down R&B ones but both were good. Favorites: He's the Greatest Dancer, We Are Family, Easier to Love
Pretty incredible. Really good disco album. Finishes a bit slower than it starts, but still very very good.
They are much more than “We Are Family”. Disco-soul grooves, great voices, sweet harmonies. Still, That Song stands out and I could hear it 1,000 times without boredom. Sometimes all it takes is one.
4/5
Great vibe
Groovy for sure. "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family" are all time classics. A couple other songs that got me in the disco mood, but there were a couple non-capturing songs. True rating would be 4.5, but gotta round down for the uncapturing moments.
This is an iconic album with some solid tracks. Obviously the hit here is the albums main single 'We Are Family' which has had an impact and reach that's hard to overstate. Even today I'd expect everyone to at least be aware of this mega-hit. It's actually so good that it almost makes the rest of the album a bit worse because you end up just waiting for 'We Are Family' to come on Standouts He's The Greatest Dancer We Are Family 4/5
Sexy as hell. This is baby-making music. I was only familiar with We Are Family (obviously) but the whole album slaps. Will be revisiting at future times.
It’s difficult to say anything bad about this album. That funky, soulful, disco style that permeates through the record is so infectious. The entire record is borderline flawless and is a joy to listen to. This is the type of album that I could sit back and live in.
He's the Greatest Dancer - 4/5 Lost in Music - 4/5 Somebody Loves Me - 3/5 Thinking of You - 4/5 We Are Family - 5/5 Easier to Love - 4/5 You're a Friend to Me - 4/5 One More Time - 4/5 Average score: 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great bass lines!
Bar mitzvah parties were never the same after this dropped
Soulful lyrics and great beats make up this disco era classic. We Are Family is a major hit that I’ve heard countless times, but I cannot honestly say I’ve ever heard a single other song of this album. Which is a pity, frankly, because it’s wonderful. While firmly cemented in its era, it’s boppy and fun that I hope continues to stand the test of time.
7/10 Favorite: He’s the Greatest Dancer
Don't think it needs the repeats at the end, u know they are different mixes but it's repetitive.
We are familyyyy. 🎵
I was an idiot when I was younger. In order to seem "cool," me and my friends shunned disco, but secretly, I actually liked a lot of disco songs, including the iconic We Are Family. After listening to the whole album, Lost In Music is another outstanding song. This is a lovely album, nice and funky, and I'm here to finally say that not all disco sucks. 💃 🪩🕺🏻
Not my genre but it seems really good for what it is.
Tunes
Some very famous songs. Enjoyable, although by song four the sound was getting very samey.
Well this is an amazing album but really think it should be ‘Nile Rogers feat. Sledge Sisters’. I love ‘Thinking of You’ - its very romantic :)
Enjoyed this but the remixes at the end of the album on Spotify are really shit, bar them a great album 4/5
Bring It Uh! Ah, ah, ah, ah Ha Haa, Ha Haa What, what, what, what Huuh On your mark ready set let's go
Pretty good disco!
Great!
Fun and groovy disco album? Sign me upppp. Ofc I’ve heard the most famous song on here (although never in full before) but the rest of the album is a great listen.
In its core, this album is just disco. It doesn't do anything really different from any other disco project from the time. The thing is, "He's the Greatest Dancer", 'Lost In Music', 'Thinking of You' and 'One More Time' are some of the best true disco tracks I've ever heard. Incredibly catchy and groovy. The other tracks aren't as impactful, and come as very standard songs for me, but at least they keep the great performances and super clean production.
Awesome disco/dance beat on all the songs. somewhat repetitive a few decent songs in the album.
Amazing
Great beats, sampled a ton, nice to hear some of the originals.
I’ve heard the song before but if you had asked me who sister sledge were, I would have said an 80s hair metal band. This is better
know many tracks but never listened to whole album. very enjoyable
Fantastic production and that bass playing is top notch!
Such a fun album
I groaned because disco, but Neil Rodgers fixed it.
It was cool to hear parts of a song that was sampled for a song I am familiar with in the late 90s (gettin’ jiggy wit it). Groovy, funky, soulful beats.
Awesome.
Good stuff! I think I'll give it a 4, a lot of good songs
You can't help but move your feet!
that bass alone makes this a 4/5
Excelente álbum de Dance Music. Muito Groove! CVJ Neko.
Never would've guessed that a disco album would be one I'd return to and say, "Hey, let's listen to this," yet here we are. This album deserves its spot on this list, simply by merit of the number of times pieces of multiple songs have been sampled and used in other music over the last 40 -45 years. It's also just so funky and fun and it made me really appreciate a genre I may have previously tuned out.
I liked this one a lot.
This is my first album with female musicians so far, and it was great. This isn't my normal genre of music, but it's catchy and danceable, and it has stood the test of time. This is also one of those rare occasions where the biggest hit is the weakest song on the album. Highlights include He's the Greatest Dancer and Lost in Music. 4 out of 5.
Solid album
Hvis eg først skal høyre på noko som liknar disco, kan eg godt høyre dette.
They have been sampled galore! They are bumping, dancing and fun. I couldn't stop chair dancing :) Somebody loves me got a little long but their voices were great. Is it deep? No its Disco influenced by R&B. But that is okay, not all music has to be super deep and meaningful, sometimes it can just make you want to get up and dance and feel good. This album does just that
Discofabulous! Some moments made me wonder if Daft Punk was influenced by them or maybe sampled them. My favorites: Lost in the Music, Easier to Love (flutes are great), One More Time (especially dig the guitar solo).
Disco, soul, funk and Nile Rodgers all wrapped up in one sultry glitter ball of a cocaine party. If music is a time machine, then I’ve just been transported right into the center of a life-sized champagne glass on the dance floor of Studio 54. There’s such a deliciously rich texture to this album. The album cover sums it up nicely… I feel deep red velvet carpet, dark wood paneled walls, white silk sheets covering a large round bed, and the flicker of rich jewels in the light. Pure 1970’s opulence.
This is so deliciously disco-y. I danced and had a great time with it.
Greatest dancer track one is sublime. Lost in Music, track 2. Phenomenal. Very strong start. Track 4. Incredible. 4/5. full of classics. Though not a fan of them sticking 4 remixes of the same track at the back end of albums.
Silky Smooth and very Groovy
Banger of an album
A really solid disco album with upbeat vibes and positive (if not repetitve) lyrics. Tracks to Track: Lost in Music, We Are Family
It's just pretty much Chic, so it's pretty much perfect
First disco album on this list so far, and Nile Rodger’s production is always great to listen to.
Lots of good, funky tracks on here.
Groovy
I liked this a lot, but it's not a 5/5 unfortunately. 4/5 is pretty accurate. It was funky but a little repetitive
Such a solid album, Classic.
Fun, funky, soulful. That was a great listen.
This album is pretty great. It just grooves all of the way through and it has probably been sampled countless times. Obviously 'We Are Family' gets played endlessly but there are other great songs on here I have never heard that are just as good if not better.
Meni vrh album, nikad nisam poslušala u komadu, ali naravno znam sve stvari. Živio disco! 🪩❤️ 4/5, 7/10
This was a really good album.
7.5/10
Ok groove queens! I had a great time listening to this album. They rocked out the gate with He’s The Greatest Dancer, I can only imagine how fun it was to hear that at a disco club at the time. “One night in the disco on the outskirts of ‘Frisco, I was cruising with my favorite gang. The place was so boring…” Truly timeless storytelling for every gal who has ever hit a club. The rest of the album was fun: lyrics made me giggle, the beats didn’t feel boring, and above all I was walking around feeling like I had my own personal soundtrack going on. Also learned that We Are Family was recorded in one take by the youngest sister at the age of 19 🙂↕️ To have lived in the time of disco clubs!! and to make a hit album with your sisters! goals
super funky
A pretty good disco album is something I don’t really say often. Disco was a passing trend and it died pretty quickly. It was also pretty cliched and the culture really couldn’t fit the chaotic 80s. But honestly listening to this, I couldn’t really see too many flaws. Even removing a great song like We Are Family, I think it can still be good as a standalone album. The beats and groove are really amazing to listen to and of course the fact that Sister Sledge came from the iconic Chic. Yeah, this album was pretty good! Favorite Tracks: He’s the Greatest Dancer, Somebody Love Me, We Are Family, You’re a Friend to Me, One More Time Rating: 4.5/5
Damn good album
Some of the catchiest, funnest, and smoothest soul/disco around! This album a blast, nothing but gold throughout! 4/5
Not much for disco, but can't argue with disco soul too much.
banger after banger, shame they stole the riff from gettin jiggy with it
Hmmm
-good -chill
Fun, vibey! I loved it!!
First half is 5 star, peters off towards the end. Incredible bass
groovy, funky, made me wanna dance. everything i would hope the album that holds the legendary “We Are Family” would be.
I remember we are family, but never reay listened to Sister Sledge. Nice and Funky.
More absolute peak Disco music, up there with C'est Chic and MJ's 'Off the Wall' in my opinion. Squeaky clean production, melodic bass lines for days, scratchy guitar, and lush strings backdropping the whole thing - just everything you'd want out of a Disco album, pretty much. And when paired with the dense, yet undeniably smooth vocal harmonies all throughout this thing - especially on that grand opener 'He's the Greater Dancer', 'Easier to Love', and the forever iconic 'We Are Family', the album just further unveils itself to be this irresistible bundle of joy, that's honestly super intoxicating. Maybe if I had to pick one thing this album does exceptionally well, it's the bass, cause goddamn, I don't know what it is about the mixing here, but the bass's presence is just so confidently stated as the record's backbone. I can listen to the bass on the song 'Easier to Love' for, like, the rest of my life - such a slick song.
Suurin yllättäjä positiivisessa mielessä tähän mennessä. Voi jäädä soittoon pidemmäksikin aikaa. 4/5.
Produced and written by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, "We Are Family" is particularly a Chic album by another name. At the height of their popularity, the two were cranking out hits, so why not lend some to some other vocalists? It obviously worked, as there are plenty of well-known and frequently sampled tracks here. Speaking of, you can immediately hear where the music that Will Smith used to get "jiggy with it". Remember when artists could "sample" someone by basically just singing over another artist's song? As usual, the original is far better. Anyway, Sister Sledge doesn't work quite as well for me as Chic, but they did managed some impressive songs that really passed the test of time.
Gros disco j’adore
Iconic, j’adore
Gets a 4 because of the funky bass, but a little too disco-y
With the ubiquity and heavy plays of most of these songs, it is easy to forget how bloody good these songs are - production ,bass playing, vocals. Another album that’s almost a greatest hits collection but the non-hit songs are also great.
really lit up my tuesday morning in office
Outstanding Disco album. Will Smiths go to for creating his own music. Danced around with the Vacuum on a Sunday doing housework to this classic. I'm the greatest dancer. Good beats nice vibe good vocals loved it
Excellent
I love disco. This is good disco. Good disco gets 4 stars.
Amazing to see some boomers are still mad about disco. Grow up, nerds! These are well-written songs, sung by great vocalists.
BEST ONE YET
Hootie tootie disco cutey!
Pristine stuff! The singles from this, mainstays at high street nighclubs and student discos, are also clinics in how to put together/produce a song.
A disco classic. Like a greatest hits package almost squeezed into a single side of an album. I was less keen on the slow stuff but this is Nile Rodgers doing what he does best
such a fun record!!!!!!! :))))
We Are Family is a great song and it's not even the best on this album.
It’s fun and cute
"We Are Family" is the third studio album by American R&B vocal group Sister Sledge. Disco, R&B and soul are the Wiki-listed genres. The album was written and produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, members of the band Chic at the time. The Sledge sisters are Kathy, Debbie, Joni and Kim. The backing band included members of Chic: Nile Rodgers (guitar), Bernard Edwards (bass) and Tony Thompson (drums). Others instruments included piano, keyboards, percussion, trumpet, trombone and strings. Commercially, the album did very well reaching #3 on the US Billboard 200 and #7 in the UK. The album opens with the first-released single "He's the Greatest Dancer." A chunky bass, guitar slashes and a disco beat. Keyboards carrying the melody. Organ, trumpet. Nice sound and needless to say a great groove going. Kathy on lead vocals as she's going to the disco to see a hot guy dance. Nile Rodgers gets more of his traditional Chic guitar groove going in "Lost in Music." Percussion and organ in a smooth song. They slow it down a bit in "Thinking of You." Slower R&B. Strings are added a romantic song. And then comes the big one "We Are Family." Drums, the Chic guitar, a really funky bass and a piano carrying the melody. The sisters singing in unison. The disco ball is spinning right now. For some reason, I feel like watching Dave Parker and Willie Stargell highlights. Nile Rodgers said that this album was the best album he was involved in that later 70's time frame, even better than his Chic albums. There's great sound and production on this album....the select use of strings, horns, piano, keyboards and organ. The core Chic band is is tight and funky. There's lovely lead and backing vocals. The album hits all the styles Wiki mentioned...disco, R&B and soul. Yes, this was an album of its time but you hear its influences in bands such as Daft Punk. I give this a very strong recommendation especially if you want to revisit the late 70's and disco era. This is a solid album.
liked first few more than last few but enjoyed a lot, listened on walk
groooovy, i didn’t realize we are family was them
Not my usual genre, but this was a solid disco record. Great vocals, beats, and I really enjoyed the slower tracks as well.
every Nile Rodgers song sounds the same (they are all 10/10)
basically why Nile Rodgers has had something to do with all music in the 80s
A blissful release from Bob's harmonica
Fun songs, ultrafunky
You'd probably expect a one track album, the title track being such a smash hit. I realized listening to it that I knew a lot more of their songs than I thought, and the one I didn't are just as smooth and velvety. Truly, a blast full of sweetness, and very much hip danceable. You can play it front to back at every wedding, it's full of love and killer bass and full of hooks. I guess despite the fun I have two main critics, one that is quite surface level (it's a bit too kumbaya) and the other being that it sounds a bit too coherent for me. It's so well put together, and without any inclination towards experimentation sonically so it sounds a bit samy. I can't fault it too much, it wasn't the aim and they smashed what they set out to do : a very dancy fun album. However, my favorite records do either in a spectacular manner so it's not getting a five, but it is for sure a fun time and easy listening. Honestly, a good surprise, it really stands on its own.

Очень приятный альбом.
Huge songs, even bigger vocals
Good to dance to with kids.
Funky. Great upbeat songs and immaculate production.
Good disco music. "Lost in Music" is a bop "We Are Family" is an upbeat classic. Was produced by Nile Rodgers, very cool.
A lot of fun, the slow 70s disco ballads are less my thing but still a great time.
Worth it just for the dope remixes
Groovy baby
Did not finish however not particularly my style but it is catchy especially we are family
Some very iconic songs in this upbeat R&B album
They are such a vibe. Tre legends. This album puts you in a good mood, ready to dance as soon as it starts. We Are Family is definitely my least favorite, when I was little there was a commercial that had this as a background and it has just stuck with me, also my parents got divorced somewhere in the timeframe that commercial was popular, so it just might trigger me, other than that totally disco, would recommend! :)
rings of flowers round your eyes and ill love you
Great Family R&B band from the 70’s
Great analogue sound, and some hits, even if overall the songs have a tendency to sound samey.
Great record! Smooth r&b/disco! Really good!
HOLY FUCKING PEAK BRO this is so fire and fire like I loved it absolutely zero skips
Buen disco para escuchar por la mañana y comenzar el día con energía
Laadukasta tanssipoppia 70 luvulta
Songs were fun to listen to, but quality of the recording and instruments pushed it from 3 to 4 stars
-Funky Wunky and I love it -So groovy I feel like I could bust some fire moves out on my imaginary dance floor -Liked it much better my second time listening for some reason -Love the mix of slower songs and more upbeat drummy ones
I remember this album from when it came out back in the day. I never realized that it was basically a Chic album (with different vocalists) - although that is completely obvious now.lots of good grooves and the songs are pretty good as well.
Absolute scenes.
Quite a fun funky album, interestingly the title track is the weakest of the album.
I liked this album a lot more than I was expecting to. The influence on artists that followed is obvious. The overall album was a funky fresh listen.
3.75 / 5 This album bring the funk! A really fun album!
It made me want to dance.
Not usually a disco fan, but this one hits just right. Nile Rodgers is a legend.
Everything Nile Rodger’s touches is gold. Thinking of You is the track I enjoyed most. But if I never hear We Are Family again it will be too soon.
Funky as hell!
Okay, confession time: I was the disco skeptic in the corner, arms crossed, silently judging those mirror balls. Then Sister Sledge’s We Are Family was allocated and wow, suddenly I’m twirling around the lounge in fuzzy socks. It’s like getting unexpectedly invited into the warmest, coziest doona fort you never knew you needed. “We Are Family” feels like a cheeky pep talk from your besties, “Lost in Music” is the perfect soundtrack for living room boogie, and “He’s the Greatest Dancer”… well, let’s just say I’m still trying to perfect those shimmy moves. I never thought disco could give me the same comfort as a hot chocolate and a marshmallow barrage, but here we are. Sister Sledge has made me a convert, if you’re ready to swap your snarky side-eye for some glittering joy, this album is your ticket. Trust me, once you dive in, you’ll be snuggled in that sonic doona all night long.
Between getting this in my daily review rotation and listening to Rappers delight the other day, I’m starting to think these Chic guys are following me from track to track like a vengeful spirit. Given I gave them a fairly mediocre score last time I heard them. Perhaps I treated them too harshly, the instrumentals on this album were awesome and definitely saves this album from feeling like it is occasionally going through the motions
Giving my sisters eating disorders by singing to them "we are family, even though you're fatter than me"
disko lady disko lady disko lady disko lady disko lady disko lady!! erinomaista 70-luvun diskojytää paitsi sitten hidastetaan ja jotain paskaballadeja heitetään kekoon no jah vähän vaihtelua ei nyt nii haittaa mutta huohhoijjakkarallattaass.. nykynuorison lempitanssia ovat diskojytä ja beat-tanssi jotka tuottavat erityisesti vaikeuksia aikuisille, johtuen tästä liikkeestä -> (panoliike). hei hei hei... mitä sinulla on sanottavaa? sano, hei hei hei... mitä sinulla on sanottavaa? hollywood. hollywood keinuilu. hollywood. hollywood keinuilu. muistan, ei kauaa sitten, menin teatteriin, ja näin kool sekä jengi esityksen. lost in music
Got this the Monday after they performed at Pride!!
This was a good throwback to the last days of disco
Sisters can sing! Yeah I like disco.
Eslo IS the greatest dancer. Lots of fun here!
mmmm, tastes like the 70s. We're past the point that we all have to pretend that disco is bad. Disco is good. (Well, good disco is good, but, like, duh. There *is* good disco, is the point.) Even so, the entire album at once feels like a lot, somehow. It's obviously quite good. Also just...a lot.
Obviously I knew from the title that We Are Family was on here but didn't realize the same record also gives us Lost in Music, He's the Greatest Dancer and Thinking of You. Thats almost too stacked. Four stars.
Great album! So dancy! Feel good music.
Nights at the clubs.....yes!!!!
After only ever hearing a good portion of these songs on the radio at work in the background almost daily has caused them to become irritating and overplayed. Then I get home, this site suggested the album, so I get comfortable, with it playing through my earphones. The songs suddenly get a whole new lease of life, with the clear basslines and the fully realised vocals shimmering through. I'm listening to them for the first time as many would have back in '79. It's almost ashame that time can taint your perception of some music.
Coming in what would wound up being the tail-end of the disco craze, Sister Sledge is as good as advertised with the epochal anthem for such times. Anchored by the in-demand and aptly named Chic, We Are Family is largely all killer and no filler, boistered by enthusiastic and emphatic performances from the sisters Sledge who compliment the instrumentation sprinkled throughout the record well. There are good enough reasons why We Are Family remains an enduring listen almost fifty years on and the album that contains it has plenty of gems worthy of unearthing. Favorites: He's the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, Thinking of You, We Are Family, Easier to Love, One More Time.
This slaps. Rogers & Edwards (RIP) killed it. So smooth, so groovy. Not all disco is created equal. This is some top-tier stuff with two of the genre's best at the helm. There's sonic, dynamic and rhythmic variation (not every song is a 140bpm four-on-the-floor dance floor number), pitch perfect vocals and an immaculate vibe throughout. 4/5
Gøy! Bra stemmer og gøy musikk og i det hele tatt, positivt innstilt.
up beat and classic for sure
No complaints. Good stuff.
Fun and familiar 4.5
Fire.
WE ARE FAMILY 🗣️🗣️
amazing album but i got bored by the remixes at the end
Toimii kuin kone. Hieno laulu. Disco, hyvä.
Pretty groovy damn
Wonderful! Fun record that obviously influenced a ton of later music. 4/5
If you're like me and your disco education is lacking, but you know your Will Smith, He's the Greatest Dancer will sound very familiar. Lost in Music is as good if not better with keys and another addictive riff. Thinking of You brings another massive bassline and groove. The backing orchestra and singing are on point too, but we're all about that bass today. The anthemic title track slots in nicely, but I'm disappointed this version is the 3 and a half minute edit instead of the full 8 minute original. I feel a little momentum is lost after, but One More Time is a solid closer and another toe tapper. Dance the night away.
Enjoy!
Good vocals, good instrumental, good album. Happy to finally listen to more than “we are family” from this album. 4.4/5
Ooooohh I like this Nile Roger’s is a great guitarist Funky af This is like super good 😭 I’ve heard we are family a lot Not my favourite song on the album I like the first two songs alot Solid album, really funky and nice to listen too, killer guitar work Great intro to that funky sorta music
Eigenlijk best wel goede dancemuziek. Niet iets dat ik dagelijks zou willen luisteren, maar ook zeker niet erg om vaker te horen
Wall-to-wall funk/soul bangers with incredible bass parts. Less of a fan of the ballads though (Somebody Loves Me, You're a Friend to Me). Favourite tracks: He's the Greatest Dancer, Lost in Music, Thinking of You, We Are Family, Easier to Love, One More Time.
Ouuuf! Ekte kul plate. Sterke låter, nydelig produksjon (hvert fall remaster fra '95 som jeg hørte). Må bare løpe på BigDipper for å finne denne på vinyl. Nydelig.
Nice. I'm excited. This should be good. Wow - there are 4 or 5 huge hits on here. This was so good. It hit just right today and the quality is so high. I think I'm going to listen to this regularly
4.5/5
I didn't think I was a fan of Disco music but this album could change my mind. The songs are incredibly catchy, with sounds that dont sound too dated (I thought it would be bad). The album is well worth a listen.
We as a society never should've let disco die
Groovy, loved it
Excellent listen. Really fun, start to finish. Loved the remixes especially
Get a bit same-y as you go through, but the funk and the vibes can't be denied.
Not quite perfect, a bit too one-note, but still fun and pleasant.
Solid funk. Powerful female voices. A solid album and a fun listen.
Funky as hell off the bat. Highlights: we are family, he's the greatest dancer
