me calenté
Always avoided this group and most RnB artists. Felt nostalgic and gave this a shot and actually enjoyed it.
Me surpreendeu positivamente. É um disco divertido e bem feito. QKZxHBB Khan.
I like TLC, I used to listen to Fanmail all the time. This was a pretty decent album. The hits from this album are my favorites.
The music is pretty good, and the singles are catchy at times, but beyond that, it is unmemorable. Michael Keaton's character in "The Other Guys" unwittingly quotes this album to great comic effect throughout the movie. I will absolutely rewatch "The Other Guys." It is way less likely I will revisit the album.
The vibes are great. There is only so much smack about frontin' and makin' I can abide, though. A whole album full of it is a bit much.
Went on a long time or felt it. Some interesting instrument choices
I thought I didn't have any recollection of this group, I got a hint of a memory when Waterfall came up, but still felt some nostalgia with the energy of the record. I appreciate the classic hip-hop sound, let's separate the art from the artist with Puffy bringing something very important to this record. It took midway through a second listen before I recognized them from the All That theme song I would listen to a lot in my youth. Which means..there's a lot of darkness surrounding this, I started tying Puffy to the Nickelodeon and then a few names start popping up and... this album is just a bit too sexy overall, even when they're talking about wiping their ass. They got away with a lot by playing off how ridiculous or funny some fetishes can be. Conspiracy theories aside, this was an interesting listen. It's definitely got a theme to it, and TLC have a distinct enough sound to be appealing if your brain's already been exposed to them. I'm not sure I'd highly recommend this, I'm not sure I'd give it another listen past today, I feel like the highlights of the record are the features, top quality hip-hop acts meshing pretty well with TLC and the theme. Definitely a must listen, I just don't see the replay value. 3.4/5
no me gusto tanto algunos temas malisimos otros meh 6/10
Got jumpscared by reading the Wikipedia. What a great album filled with great and catchy tunes!
Just like makin' love; it's starts off hot, sweaty 'n sultry with some deliciously produced beats (?), then climaxes around 30 minutes with a Waterfall (???)... but then it just goes on and on, and you're just kind of waiting for it to finish. ...amirite fellas??? idk man I swear this analogy worked in my head
It's a bit of a silly album, but not terrible
There are some big hits on this and overall enjoyable, album as a whole average however.
Waterfalls ist ein bekannter Hit. Der Rest pätschert so vor sich hin. Nichts störendes, aber für mich auch keine Highlights. 2-3/5
Surprisingly credible. I had this down as pretty mainstream (manufactured?) pop and pretty lightweight. There is some solid music to appreciate. Actually pretty enjoyable. It's very horny. Almost prince levels of horny. Maybe attractive young women being kind of horny is one of the elements that my brain shortcuts as a marketing angle and makes me think it's lightweight (which isn't fair)
Decent album, obv I liked Waterfalls, but I think some of the other songs are strong too. Probably wouldn't listen that often but I could see myself putting this on in the background. Didn't like the interludes too much
Fine. Lots of attitude.
Some really great tracks and some boring ones
Listened to the entire album while in line for Record Store Day. Waterfalls was my jam in fourth grade! Nice to hear Andre 3000 make a cameo.
3.5 stars
One hit wonder, the album ft. Diddy.
It has the hits but outside of those I didn't latch on to anything. I had my wife listening, who is a R&B aficionado, and she gave the thumbs down so I will round to 3 for 3 incredibly memorable songs. Revised, apparently it had 4 top 5 singles but I only remember 3 so I stay with my ranking.
Switch
This album is fine, but didn't really do much for me. I enjoyed the Prince cover. High 3.
I was really expecting more from this album. Of course this is the one that has Waterfalls on it, but the rest of the songs are just kind of meh. It is very much '90s to the core.
Good but a little horny for me
These ladies are legends and my mother adored them as a teenager. I was looking forward to digging into something she loved and I learned a lot from just one listen. I never realized how low-key, chill and soulful TLC was. I'm so used to other female vocal groups flaunting their pipes and meanwhile, TLC stays in a lower range vocally unless it's a climax where a member might go up higher. This approach does work on this album where songs like Waterfalls and Diggin' On You stand out. I also did not realize how sexy this album was trying to be though that's on me. It's literally called Crazysexycool, it's in the name. I wanted to vibe and dance, but instead, I was met with plenty of songs in the back end that were fit for sex nights. I wasn't personally participating in the two-person relay race known as coitus at the time of listening, so too many of these caught me off guard. Plus all the interludes too which act as filler for a 56 minute album. I don't want to hear Busta Rhymes describe what girl he wants for nearly 3 minutes AND I DEFINITELY don't want to hear fucking Diddy trying to act slick. His part on this record did not age well at all. That sex hotline interlude which ends with sexual moaning, screaming and toilet flushing noises may be up there for the grossest thing I've heard on this challenge so far. But despite their increased arousal, when TLC gets serious and heartfelt, they hit better and stronger. That sounds sexual too, dammit. On one final note, I thought I would hear Left Eye spit more verses, but I guess she was too busy committing arson. Swagteam, ma (6/10, 3/5 on this scale)
pretty good
3 Stars (8/15)
Biased but I love this album. Great vocalists, great RnB/hiphop music and production, catchy songwriting, classic hits. It can sound a bit dated at this point but there are so many classics on here: Creep, Waterfalls, Red Light Special, Diggin’ On You, Take Your Time, If I Was Your Girlfriend. I was stuck between a 3 and a 4.
Good.
Better than expected. Sounds and production very similar to Prince on most tracks.in fact there even a Prince cover
crazy, sexy, AND cool
Oh lordy - you could NOT escape TLC in 1994. At all. They were all over MTV and the radio. God - that "Creep" video with them in giant billowy silk pajamas....... they must've played that video a thousand times a day. This was not my jam at all in '94 so I missed this album, but the singles were inescapable. I've even heard "Diggin' on You" many times, which has to be the most obscure of the singles. Anyways. What I'm trying to say is that unless you were there, TLC probably seems like a forgotten artifact of the 90s, which also probably colors your view of this album. This record is pretty excellent, if dated, R&B. I mean - if you had to pin mid-90s R&B down to a singular record this would do nicely. It's all there - super sexy slow jams, incredibly stupid skits, a song or two about contemporary issues, just enough guitar, just enough DJ scratches, some funk, some ballads...... And because it was made for CD its way too long but somehow this didn't feel like a chore to listen to after the first 40 minutes. T-Boz's voice is interesting, and perfectly suited for R&B - reedy and deep. But it isn't particularly strong. Chili has a better voice, and the contrast between her and T-Boz works really well and keeps ear-fatgue at bay. Both of them are totally fine singers. One thing I feel compelled to write about is "Creep" - specifically the first verse. "Creep" was the first single released, as well as the first song on the album. Take a close listen to the melody in the first verse. Maybe it's the mix - but it is so low and out of T’s range that you can't really tell what's going on. And yet that song was huge! It's kind of amazing. I liked CSC, but I probably won't put it on again any time soon. THREE STARS
I thought this was gonna be a higher ranking for me but honestly... other than the hits off the album, it was just ok.
Ok hip hop band
Waterfalls natürlich n Banger, aber der Rest war ganz okay. Halt so 90er-Early 2000s Sound
Waterfalls ist nach wie vor ganz gut, ansonsten eher durchschnitt bis schwach
Wundert mich immer, wenn man Songs hat mit mehreren Millionen aufrufen, aber selber nicht kennt. Mid.
This album is very cool, but I do think it's hard to be a straight through listen over and over again. With the songs extracted the whole thing just becomes very easy to listen to. I am most familiar with FANMAIL, but this album is basically as good.
Сексапильно девки пляшут
interesting!
I think nostalgia is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Diggin On You came out as my favorite on this listen. I had completely forgotten about that song. I know interludes were a huge part of 90's albums but I can't ever remember a time an interlude added to my enjoyment of an album. I also can't believe my 9 year old brother had this album...it is much more inappropriate than I remember.
3 - I owned this album like many kids at the time, but I doubt I would have ever listened to it again if not for this app. There are some good songs and a lot of nostalgia. Too much filler though.
Groovy with solid production
Definitely made me feel some kind of way back when I first heard it, but nowadays I appreciated the groove more than the horniness.
Au début de l'album je me disais que c'était le bon vieux temps où il n'y avait pas encore d'effet(s) dans les voix. À la fin de l'album je me disais qu'il était un peu trop long.
Not my cup of tea, bit some songs, like “Red Light Special” are sexy. I knew right off the bat that “If I was Yr Girlfriend” was written by Prince. Also, I didn’t know “Waterfalls” was a parent talking to their kid.
I like this album though it gets a bit samey in places, not sure if the interludes really work either!
3/5. Liked this one more than I thought I would honestly. I’ve always had a mostly negetive perception of all the 90’s boy-bands/girl-bands and this album does occasionally fall into that 90’s pop/RNB cheesiness, but the production is mostly very good and there are some high highs here like the albums biggest hit “Waterfalls.” I also liked the closer with Andre 3000 “Sumthin’ Wicked this way Comes.” Doubt I’ll revisit this one in full, but there’s a handful of tracks here that I’ll definitely be coming back to. And as a side the interludes are mostly meh but I don’t let interludes affect my rating too much unless they are particularly egregious, which none of the ones here are.
Rating: 6/10
The scientific definition of three stars. 4 great, world-beating singles, a good Prince cover, then a bunch of filler. An enjoyable trip down memory lane, but didn’t inspire any re-listens.
An album featuring Len Houmous’ greatest attributes. 3.2 8/16 Waterfalls
não consegui prestar muita atenção depois de notar que pescaram o refrão quase inteiro de uma música do macca sem nem darem um shout-out pro meu goat, mas the album itself is fine/fun enough mixagem é boa
Weird that the their popular songs are their least horny songs. Was not expecting that. The album itself was fine I guess, kind of mid.
An almost pleasant pop-album lead by the single "Waterfalls". 2,5
I can see the appeal, but it's not for me
ConsistentlyGoodButDidNotFullyClick.
It was fine. Plus one for waterfalls, otherwise it's very normal RnB/Pop.
For me this album represents the end of the late 80s, early 90s R&B/soul sound that dominated radio and MTV. By the mid 90s songs went harder into hip hop or pop or dance but groups like TLC represented a hybrid of those styles that was exciting when it first hit.
Album #1,056 Going in, I know Waterfalls, maybe Creep, and I know the Prince version of If I Was Your Girlfriend. And I know one of them died young. Let's hear the album now. About what I expected. Poppy, catchy R&B stuff with a little rap thrown in. Didn't care for the rap or vocal fry. Almost took a full point off for the literal toilet humor. (Why was that here?!) Other than that, it was OK. Diggin' On You was pretty good. A very low 3/5 gnome sayin'? Word.
This really was a great album.
The album is a good mix of R&B/hip hop, soul and pop. If you like that sort of thing I'm sure it's great. I thought that it was good, I had it on in the background while I was working. It was ok.
You know how there is a song or artist that you would sing mockingly back in your youth, but then you relisten years later and admit that it was secretly a banger...? ... this is not that. It's not *bad*. It's just very mediocre corporate radio pop with R&B flavor. It was pretty mediocre for its day, and it does not hold up. Their voices are good though. Nice to hear real musicians actually singing, and not a bunch of auto-tuning or quantization or anything.
I see why it’s a classic of its genre. Carefully produced and carried by the charisma of the performers and has some absolute classics in its tracklist. It’s a little too long (I could really do without the interludes) and some of the vocal mixing isn’t great. This era of R&B isn’t my cup of tea, but I am glad that I listened to it. A worthy bridge from the girl groups of yesteryear to the girl groups of yesterday.
Nice
It was nice, but nothing grabbed me.
Aika hyvä R&B-levy. Waterfallsin olin kuullut aikaisemmin.
Cool
Andre 3K????
This was enormously successful at the time and they were seen as the biggest girl group of their era. Financially they were ripped off and there were subsequent tragedies, but this is a fine RnB sound of the time with a mega hit single and a good Prince cover on it. Not my scene but good if it’s kind.
Do go chasing, Prime 90s hip-hop waterfalls. i like how you have to branch out on some of these. 90s hip-hop is that for me. It's an Ok album that i would have never listened to otherwise. it has the Mega-Hit "Waterfalls" and i did like "Red Light" and "if i was your girlfriend".
3.5 stars The interludes are obnoxious. The hits are great. The deep cuts are often dull and forgettable, but there are some vibes. All in all it is a satisfying listen, but seriously the interludes are a total waste.
Thought this was very chilled. Could easily have it on in background. No idea if it’s cool to like “tame” rappish stuff. Lol
Surprised at this, some pretty good music but would pass on a few songs, plus the interludes were a bit weird
The songs weren’t terrible but the interludes were stupid. Not my kind of music, but I can understand why people liked this. 3/5
cool stuff, some songs I'll return to but album as a whole probably not. Atlanta, Georgia!
If they trim some of the fat, this could be a solid 40-minute album. Still, it's fine. Some good stuff, mostly unmemorable. 5/10
Waterfalls but not much else tbh
Some vibes, but this era of hip hop just isn’t my favorite
Something to keep in mind while listening to this record, is that this group essentially just want to make their listeners feel good, raise a smile, and of course show the world that they are crazysexycool. It's an approach that defies critical analysis because it just feels mean spirited to anything other than to just go with the flow and enjoy. I would say that this record could do with a handful more killer singles, and that it does tread water for some of the tracklist. I also would personally would have removed the interlude with the flushing toilet - while it made me laugh, I don’t think that needed to be kept for posterity!!
A high 3 for TLC for me, ahead of its time in someways and iconic in others, doesn’t quite hit any big heights for me but consistently close
Some classics... and a lot of filler! The trend to have "interludes" between songs was such a weird 90s thing. Glad it has been mostly scrapped. Hah.
Slay
Never heard an entire TLC album before. It was entertaining. Definitely dig the prank call and Can I get a witness. >D
A smooth fusion of girl group r&b and hip hop with decent but perhaps mixed results - not for me, save for If I Was Your Girlfriend (best Prince cover outside of Sinead O'Connor)
it was fine. not my favourite but it was still fun to listen to
Agradable e inofensivo. Bien grabado con buenas voces de jóvenes negras atractivas.
Waterfalls and Creep are classics, but it sounded worse than I remembered otherwise. Still, a great group.
It’s not my thing but it’s a good RnB album
Def not the target audience but nonetheless had some jams ngl
Busta Rhymes is that you? I apologize TLC - I was not familiar with your game. This album was WILD. Between the intense hetero sexuality of it, the little interludes, the ladies basically talking to each other, and the constant reference back to crazy sexy cool, there was a lot to unpack. But to go from the horniness of the first 80% straight into Switch and Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes was wild. Also the number of names on this album is crazy - Prince was a big green flag. P-Diddy....major bummer to see his name on it
Not my style but it was good, especially the classics
Some of the interludes here were utterly bizarre (especially the toilet flushing...). Otherwise, a decent enough album with the classic Waterfalls found on it.
I knew TLC from their early days. Back then, I was even somewhat interested in their music. This combination of pop and funky hip-hop is fun at times. Overall, however, the pop is too insignificant. 3/4
It is distinct of a moment in time - early 90s R&B mixed with hip-hop. I found some of the tropes of the time period, the constant branding/remphasizing of "crazysexycool" throughout the interludes annoying and cringey, but it was a key fixture of albums of that era (and this might have been a trailblazer). Overall the production is really good, just overall not my style. "Waterfalls" is the clear highlight.
Spicy!
Why my shit rock hard. Such a horny album, freakyassshit Fave track: Waterfalls
Cool. 3/5
Not normally my thing, but a pretty solid and fun album overall. Also Waterfalls is an unqualified banger. 3/5
I've listened to this before and based on that fact I thought this was gonna be quite awful and frankly most of it was. That said the 2 core singles are pretty good. Also the Andre 300 feature was great and I was surprised by the Busta Rhymes feature even though it could have been better. The content of the songs was kinda bad but a lot of the production was pretty good. Moving on now....
Not as good as I remembered
I just never cared for this album.
TLC, huh? I mean, it makes sense for a list like this. This album especially is rather iconic and I think it's warranted to have some sort of 90s girl-group representation on here. How do I feel about CrazySexyCool? It's good. It's definitely not perfect, but it's got some good elements and good moments. I think the album does a good job of being accessible and fit-for-radio without sacrificing the sensuality that TLC were going for. All three members have solid vocal capabilities. There are some pretty solid songs on here. "Creep" and "Waterfalls" are classics for a reason. They even have some cool surprises on the album, like a pretty solid Prince cover and an André 3000 feature on the last song! This was less than a year after Outkast's debut album, so it's pretty cool to see that, especially seeing as the feature itself is great. However, CrazySexyCool has some flaws. For one, I think that this album suffers a bit from "Ready to Die syndrome." What does that mean? Too many unnecessary and sometimes-uncomfortable interludes, that's what it means. It even shares the issue of having the presence of Sean "Diddy" Combs. Oh, joy... Additionally, while I respect that these girls are willing to embrace their sexuality, I do feel that the album gets a bit repetitive on the lyrical front. Overall, this album is pretty okay. Has a few flaws, but nothing that completely ruins the album for me. It's a solid 90s r&b album. 3/5.
I went in with trepidation as I've never liked the two hits I knew from this album ("Creep" and "Waterfalls") But the rest of the album really rode on those mid-90s R&B vibes and took me back. A bit long, and interludes are just part of 90s Hip-Hop and R&B that that don't interest me, but otherwise a fine listen.
Waterfalls is great. The rest wasn't to my tastes. It wasn't bad, but I'm not sure it is something I would choose to put on.
It's alright, but the moments I enjoyed most were when guests like Andre 3000 or Busta Rhymes made an appearance.
It was okay. Idk why I was expecting more from this album maybe because of the name haha. Was enjoyable
Pas si mal pour un disque de rnb. Un peu de soupe mais quelques morceaux pas désagréables.
intro lude- 5 creep- 5 kick your game- 5 diggin on you- 5 case of the fake people- 5 crazysexycool- 5 red light special- 5 or 6 waterfalls- 5 or 6 intermission- 5 lets do it again- 5 if i was your girlfriend- 5 just a tad boring
Pretty ok
Meh wasn’t that crazy, sexy, or cool
Fun album with a few real highlights, but it drags. Too many tracks, and several blur together. Still enjoyable overall. 7.5/10.
Undeniably nineties R&B.
Stopped working half way through the album for some reason
The ladies can clearly sing, but I just find this style of music lackluster. The Switch is the one track that has a little more oomph, which I appreciated.
Other than Waterfalls, I liked Switch a lot, a good sample of Mr. Big Stuff. But there's a fair bit of filler on here, and I could do without the interludes.
The whole album is very chill, it sounds good, and I can imagine people enjoying it in the late 90s. Waterfalls is my favourite one from these, the rest are alright as well, pretty enjoyable.
There are two or three icon tracks on there, but not much else to really grip me.
It's alright. I like the group and the tone of their music, this album has some great songs on it as well, however a lot of the songs just aren't that great overall. At least the skits/interludes are minimal and actually sound pretty good.
Lots of classics that hold up well. Also pretty dated and too many stupid interludes. Came very close to 4 stars, but couldn't get all the way there. A very good 90s album!
That was a kinda weird time in hip-hop and R&B. I remember. It’s still decent, but it defies the normal genres in a way that only made sense at the time.
nice enough
This is so the 90s in the best way. It’s pretty chill and the songs have a groove. There are some good messages in here and it’s really fun. For me personally, I don’t care for really “sexy” songs if that makes sense, but I feel like most of them were actually done really tastefully. Not too bad. Standout songs: Creep, Case of the Fake People, and Sumthin’ Wicked This Way Comes.
What I expected from the name of the album is different from what I got. I thought that this would be very fun and energetic, and instead I got a rather slow, intimate and sexy record. All songs follow a very similar line of romanticism, sexual expression and defense of the women figure, which makes the album very solid. However, if I'm being honest, I am not a big fan of this sound. Neither the voices nor the beats appealed me enough to make me return to the project, regardless of how much I appreciate the feminist messages.
Not bad. Some songs are better than others. OK to have on the background but I wouldn't go back to the artist to listen to more by them. 2,75/5.
This is good. It really grooves and makes you want to dance. "Waterfalls" is iconic. I enjoyed this. I HATE vocal interludes tho. Liked Songs: "Creep" , "Kick Your Game" , "Case of the Fake People" , "Red Light Special" , "Waterfalls" , "Let's Do It Again" , "Switch" , "Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes"
Good vocal harmonies 3
они действительно крейзи, секси и кул, не соврали
Beat my expectations. Some really funky jams with undeniable style. Love Phife and Busta showing up, and 3 Stacks to end it! Maybe the strongest 3 yet (but still a 3.)
Throwback to the 90s for sure. I didn't know a lot of these tracks, other than Waterfalls of course, and I kind of remember Creep and Red Light Special. "If I was your Girlfriend" is a pretty funky track. This is definitely a little better than some 90s R&B, due often to hiphop influence. Phife Dawg, Busta and Andre 3000 all make appearances. 3/5
Took me straight back to my 8th grade jr. high dance…
I mean its allllright. Not a huge fan of them but the instrumentals are fire tho. Creep was cool. But what are some of those interludes? Idk man
So I creep, daaaada so I creep
While I do enjoy this, only a couple things even stand out! Also while I enjoy skits, there's too many here I think
Fun album, demonstrating one of the best examples of the "hip hop soul" style that took over R&B in the 90s. As is typical for hip hop of this era, the skits were the weakest, with Sexy in particular coming across as unnecessary. Creep and Waterfalls were easy highlights, though, and some of the finest that 90s R&B has to offer.
A really cool album brought down by some incredibly stupid skits. Waterfalls was stuck in my head all day.
Funky, fresh, danceable album. I was sensing a heavy Prince influence in a lot of these tracks which I enjoyed; hearing them straight up cover If I Was Your Girlfriend later on was a highlight for me. Unfortunately, as an album there's not a lot of substance or variety that would have me coming back for a full listen. Lots of solid tracks to bump ass to though. Standouts: Kick Your Game • Creep • Diggin' On You • Red Light Special • Waterfalls • If I Was Your Girlfriend
Never been a huge fan of R&B and this is not the album that will change my mind. It's pretty long and the interludes don't add much. To me, it's fairly samey throughout too. There are some really good songs on here but I wasn't too interested.
It's fine, not really my jam. Very apt title, whoever came up with that for these three was genius. Never really listened to this one as a concept album before.
Good r&b.
The full-fledged songs were nice and smooth and I particularly loved Creep. I could've done without the interludes, which were filler at best and mood killers at worst (the toilet one, eesh)
Soundtrack to youth
This actually wasn’t as bad as I imagined it would be. A ton of filler? Yes…and honestly, I think at the point where half the tracks are interludes, those interludes lose their punch. But there are a fair amount of hits on here, almost none of which I love, but i understand why someone might. Here’s my main takeaway from listening to Crazysexycool: these chicks are super into porking. I do like the song, “Red Light Special”. The rest of it, meh. But that song jibes with me for whatever reason. 3/5
90's hip hop
Not as good as you would hope based on the quality of the singles...
I don’t listen to this kind of music but this was ok. Can't say I loved it.
Cover 5 Classic 90s hip hop. Better than the radio hits. Yes the radio hits are great (Creep and Waterfalls) but more than just those.
Not really my thing
A prime example of an album that is carried by its hits. Now don't get me wrong "Creep" and "Waterfalls" are massive hits and bops to end all bops but they do a lot of heavy lifting. The rest of the tracks leave a lot to be desired, especially when compared to those two tracks. Also I don't think we needed 4 interlude tracks.
When this dropped, TLC stood shoulder to shoulder with the era’s power girl groups, their sound unapologetically feminine, defiantly Black, and smooth as velvet. Listening now, though, the album feels less like a door being broken open and more like a room being polished to perfection. Maybe when it first dropped, it sounded like the future. There are glimmers of that vision still: “Creep” slinks with jazzy ease, effortless and irresistible. “Waterfalls,” meanwhile, remains anthemic. Yet, CrazySexyCool feels tethered to its decade. Compare it to Aaliyah’s final, posthumous album, also orange-hued, guided by Jermaine Dupri & Timbaland, and you sense the leap from polished present to prophetic future. Aaliyah sounded like tomorrow. TLC, like a perfectly tuned version of the now. And then there’s their cover of Prince’s “If I Was Your Girlfriend.” Stripped of its androgynous ache, it lands flat. Prince’s version shimmered with gender fluidity and daring. TLC’s take feels rinsed clean, safer somehow. CrazySexyCool may no longer sound revolutionary but it still sounds like a moment that mattered.
Waterfalls gets this to a 3
It was okay. I'm not really the target market for this kind of music I think. It didn't do anything to change my mind on this but I can see the value of has. Waterfalls is a song I remember from my youth.
this album delivered as promised… some songs are crazy, some songs are sexy, and some songs are cool.
Some good songs, but talk about overstaying your welcome. This album feels incredibly long, and the cheesy interludes (which from previous albums on this list I've come to realise are a staple of 90s hip hop) don't add anything of value. Waterfalls is catchy as ever, but I'm not surprised that I've never heard anything else from this album before
Tiene cosas muy buenas, aunque lo que pasa con estos discos es que pecan de golosos. Se les va largo
I'll have one red light special and some fries please, hold the slaw. This brings some 90s stylings of polished production; people whispering sexily, and songs almost exclusively about sexy times; the obligatory interludes that don't add much. It is dated. Wah-bass is never advisable, as heard in 'Kick Your Game'. 'Case of the Fake People's is pretty derivative and bland-funk; 'Let's Do it Again' is a lazy, monotone attempt at seduction; they choose a torpid Prince song to cover, not much improving it; and the interludes are a waste of time. The phone call interlude, amongst all the album's breathy sexiness, where the caller wipes her arse and then farts (an odd sequence of events when you think about it) is jarring, if chucklesome. There are a handful of decent to great tracks though. For the former, 'Diggin' On You' is kept on track by a good chorus, and some competent harmonies. 'Creep' is anthemic 90s RnB with nice sample; some nice vocal and brass hooks mean it flows along quite nicely. 'Waterfalls' is rightly a classic and dat bass! Had this lost a few of the lounge rnb efforts it would be an excellent album, but as it stands is a good listen, great in places. In fact, notwithstanding the chaff, it's probably a high watermark for 90s pop/rnb.
I joked to my friends about this album. I only know the one song, and ironically that day I was driving to sight see some waterfalls. Well, it's very 90s. I can imagine it's a blueprint for the girls' Rnb album of that era. Light rap, and that classic hip-hop beat that so many albums have are all there. The melodies catchy, and enough attitude to know that it's not three white girls singing. I had it on for a car trip, so I was listening in and out. I will say that it was quite catchy. It didn't pull me away from trying to entertain my son though. I would say that the lyrics painted an odd picture. I'm a bit indifferent to the whole 'we're sexy' vibe that gets put across. These are, of course, very attractive people. And perhaps it's just a product of the 90s. But there must be more to shifting albums than this. I mean, they can sing! Surely that's the selling point! I'm glad I listened to it, but I'm not sure I would bother again. 3 stars.
It is the first class of your sixth form year at school. Halfway through roll-call, a new girl walks into your class and sits down. She doesn't apologise for being late, and has a faint smell of cigarette smoke lingering around her. Dressed in skate shoes, baggy denim jeans and a loose fitting grey hoodie, she slumps into her seat, as if to tell the room she is already bored. At lunch, you go over to her to introduce yourself. She doesn't seem interested in learning your name, but cuts straight to asking if you want to ditch the afternoon and go hang out at her house. Normally you'd never agree to truancy, but something about her draws you to say yes. You're not attracted to her at all. Or are you? You go to her house, where her brother and a couple of his friends are already relaxing, playing playstation and drinking alcohol. You immediately feel out of your depth. Nervously, you question if maybe you should go back to school. You've got a strict chemistry teacher who wouldn't tolerate your lack of attendance. 'You'd rather hang out with Mr Southern than me?' the girl says as she takes off her hoodie to reveal a tight fitting tank top. Next thing you know you are playing Madden while drinking something called Mad Jacks Gold. The girl asks if you'd like to go up to her room with her. You say yes before she's even finished asking. Excitedly you stand up, but she bursts out laughing and says 'as if!', punching you in the arm. This girl is going to be the end of you.
Was ok. Some good tracks. Some drag. Don't know if it stands the test of time.
Better than I expected. Liked the hip hop stuff and the Phife feat. The R&B stuff wasn't for me.
Funky hip hop e jo gøy det:) Kick your game hadde ein goofy as beat. Sexy-interlude smh hahahhaha. Beste sang: Waterfalls
Malik of Tribe being featured on the first song really set the tone in a way I did not expect (my knowledge of their discography extends to ... Waterfalls). There was more diversity in music style than I expected, although the lyrics are fairly one-note
Waterfalls is genuinely good, but getting through 54 minutes of dead weight just to listen to a single is a chore
"Waterfalls"! Ab jetzt kriegen alle nicht weissen dudes, die keine Gitarre spielen, min. 4 Sterne. eine der ersten girlbands? r&B-soul leider nicht so meins...c
It was fun. A very bloated album, but not bad
It’s really crazy sexy cool
Classic. Creep, waterfalls.
The lyrical depth is basically that of a human spread out on the surface if a neutron star - one atom deep. They wanna fuck, and they aren't going to he subtle about it. The music is decent though, very laid back R&B, some quality basslines and it's nice background music. Waterfalls is the classic. The Sexy interlude is fucking hilarious but I don't think I want to listen to it again. Not bad at all but I don't think I'd listen to this on the regular.
A couple bangers and a bunch of meh. I mean, it's incredibly stuck in the niche period it was produced in, but TLC were also super influential in developing R&B for the next decade.
I’m more of a Fanmail fan myself.
I remember how big this album was back in the day. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing Creep and Waterfalls. A decent time capsule to 90s R&B.
Was a little disappointed in this one. I love Creep and Waterfalls, but none of the other songs even come close to being as good. I really wanted to like this more. 3/5
I’ve always loved the hits from this one. Album as a whole is nothing groundbreaking to me, just very 90s. Solid overall, but I didn’t find a ton to come back to
Very 90's. Horny. Not my kind of music but definitely a kind of music.
Random thoughts: * I don’t have a ton to say about this one. Solid listen, I never listened to this album in full before. * Creep and Waterfalls were the big hits when this came out. Especially Waterfalls, which I’m still not sure I know exactly what the song is about but it’s serious. * Red Light Special. Damn! I’m speechless. * I hated the last interlude. I really hate the skits from rap albums and thought this album would be free of them. * Play the hits and the rest for a jammin good time.
First all female band I've seen so far. Unfortunately it's not to my taste, but I can't deny its relevancy nor it's place on this list. No Scrubs is a great song. 5/10
Lots to enjoy, although lots sounded the same. Sumthin Wicked the best track.
I tried to like this. I thought I would. I enjoy the laid back grooves, the lyrically style sits in with them well, waterfalls is incredible... But the rest just faded into the background for me. It just felt like nothing music and I kept finding myself drifting off doing other things and not listening. I dunno, maybe it was too laid back.
To be honest I expected more from this, but I feel like you stil can't go wrong. There is definitely still a coolness about it that makes it feel unique, even if the album as a whole isn't quite as consistent or as dynamic as I would have hoped.
Ok
Pretty good. 3.5
So many hits but doesn’t all work together. The asswipe joke comes out of left field
On kovia biisejä ja tuo muistoja mieleen
Not really my scene but I can see the appeal.
Enjoyed this!
Its good, a bit weird to listen to it while working due to the moaning in some tracks. but overall a solid album
Nostalgic. Some good sounds. Very of its time.
There's only one song i know about these girls and it's not even in this album. I enjoyed it though
enjoyable smooth r&b, but something gets lost on the second half. I really liked the first few tracks!
“Waterfalls” is the clear standout here and I remember how huge it was at the release. That alone gets this to a 3. The rest to me is just good R&B, if it was a preferred genre of mine I would probably round up. It’s a decent listen all the way through, although takes quite shocking left turn with “Sexy-Interlude” LMAO. 3.5/5
It’s probably a fair question to ask whether TLC were more impactful with their effect on pop culture in general rather than the music industry itself. But, the success and ubiquitous presence of this record can’t be denied. I mean there’s nothing too deep going on here. Lots of sexy time lyrics and mid-tempo grooves that I’d probably rate higher if the interludes were shaved down. Still, you gotta appreciate or at least chuckle at lyrics like this from Red Light Special: “I’ll let you go further if you take the southern route.”
So so much 90s cheese. How can you sing Kick Your Game and Diggin’ On You with a straight face. 🤣 But man, Creep and Waterfalls were soooooo massive. They sound a bit dated but still have to respect. I personally love Red Light Special. “Take a good look at it…look at it now…” and it just gets better from there. 2.5 but gotta round up for that.
Can totally see why this is a classic. 90s R&B is hard for me to get enthusiastic about.
Iconic 90’s.
Super smooth and enjoyable R&B, but I can't help feeling it would be better if it tried more things. The most well-known songs are great: "Creep" has a nice and funky vibe and "Waterfalls" is the catchiest song of the bunch (not surprising since it was the big hit). There are a few good rap verses, both from TLC and also from Phife Dawg and Andre. Outside of those moments, it's largely filled with slow jams. These songs aren't bad, but there's also not much to separate them from similar songs from the era. Like "Red Light Special" is a good song, but it sounds like a song many other 90's R&B artists could write. Definitely has a nice vibe, but there's also not enough unique about it to make me want to come back.
Don't go chasing waterfalls. Stick to the rivers and the lakes thst you're used to.
Mid-’90s R&B didn’t just sound smooth—it looked smooth, and TLC were the blueprint. CrazySexyCool is that rare mix of radio-polished hits and personality-driven swagger, with Dallas Austin and Babyface crafting beats that slide right into your head and stay there. “Creep” oozes sly confidence, “Red Light Special” turns seduction into an art form, and “Switch” flips Jean Knight’s “Mr. Big Stuff” into pure bounce. Even the slow jams in the second half keep the vibe warm, though they can’t match the fire of the singles. And when André 3000 opens “Somethin’ Wicked This Way Comes” with that off-kilter drawl? That’s just the icing on an already iconic slice of ’90s soul.
Not bad
Not bad, but not sort of thing I’m likely to revisit. Hadn’t heard any of these songs expect for “Waterfalls,” which was probably the best on the album.
A few things I noticed about this one. There are some great tracks and there are some perfectly mediocre RnB tracks. The great tracks have certain things in common, they either have Organized Noize doing the production (Waterfalls, Sumthin' Wicked) or specifically have Lopes as a writing credit (Waterfalls, Sumthin' Wicked, Kick Your Game, Switch). Unfortunately, there is so much filler outside of these tracks and I think that's a shame. I've seen reviews that say that Crazysexycool is a step up from On the TLC Tip, but the first album was a solid hip-hop album and I think it's a shame that they started releasing more generic RnB. They did help continue to pave the way for strong female RnB acts and for that they deserve a 3 but this offering is just for the most part a bit bland.
A sladak mi je ovaj album, ima tu dobrih hitova. Da bih cijeli rateala nešto previsoko, realno ne, ali oko par stvari sam nostalgična dosta. 3/5, 5.5/10
TLC is really a singles group for me. I’ve never been in love with their deep tracks. However, they sound amazing together, and the singles like “Creep,” “Diggin’ On You,” and “Red Light Special” are so freaking good (I never liked “Waterfalls,” I’m sorry). It’s a fine record, but I’m not in love with it. Still good, but I’m not sure this holds its own on this list, though TLC more than deserves to be here.
3.5★ Title checks out.
"I want you to pass me some tissue... so I can WIPE MY ASS!!!!!!!"
It's not a bad album. It's pretty much just OK. If this is your style, and you were 15 years old in 1994, this album would probably be a 5/5, but that's not me. Waterfalls is still a banger, 30 years later (which hurts me to believe it's been this long).
Waterfalls is great but not really surprised or impressed w the rest. Not bad though.
Some nice surprises in here - Kick Your Game was fun. Not gonna come back to this if I’m being honest, but I enjoyed it
Overall: 6/10 A pretty good pop/r&b album. I honestly just don't have much to say about it, most of the songs were pretty good but it didn't do much for me overall. Fav Song: Waterfalls Least Fav Song: Take Our Time
178/1089 - This definitely sounds like RnB (the diarrhea-shit-poop-fart-interlude caught me off guard, gross but kinda funny). I rate these sort of albums neutrally but I think I find a lot more interest/things to talk about in the albums I strongly dislike and like. Here's my current rating scale: 5 - :D 4 - :) 3 - :/ 2 - :( 1 - >:C
A decent mid 90’s female hip hop album - probably the template for countless bands at the time and waterfalls is still a classic pop song.
Solid album. Not my favorite genre, but it was well done.
Good listenable album, ill probably only return to the hits tho
Their singing is very nice. Cutting the interludes and intro would help the album quite a lot.
As far as hip hop albums go, this one's okay. More remarkable that it's women. (Yes I said that out loud).
90's R&B is not my thing at all. That being said this is still an enjoyable album, especially the first half. Get's a bit repetitive in the second but still. 6/10
An inescapable experience in the mid 90s and it holds up mostly well. Drags a couple times but the high points are spread evenly through out
-Omg Creep reference -Let’s Do It Again got my hormones going crazy so they gotta be doing something right -Sexy has got to be the most insane interlude I’ve ever heard
Way too many moans. Mildly interesting music, but nothing that really sticks. Song I liked: kick your game. Would I revisit this: no.
This is a very good record, but the only downside is that 5 out of the 16 tracks are interludes. This makes it incredibly hard to rate and analyze. While, I loved the record, the interludes made it hard to follow the story. And I feel like I need to rate the interludes, since they are on the album and define it in the R&B world. This made it feel MANDATORY to have to listen to every single track from back to back. But I enjoyed the normal track list, excluding the interludes.
Some great parts. Started to drag a bit towards end
Fine album.
Well produced, but really not for me. I hate the era of RnB/rap that had all these skits - it wasn't that great on the first listen, and it hasn't aged well.
I was surprised that "waterfalls" was lifted from such a horny album. I thought everything was really nice sonically. The instrumentation was very clean and the whole album was pretty groovy. Something about it did feel like hip hop musical theater or something though. I got pretty bored about halfway through and the rest felt like a slog
Outside of Waterfalls (LOVE the chorus in this song), I don't think I've heard other songs from this group. Love the beat in Intro-Lude off the rip. Shame it's only a 1 minute song. Creep is just some solid 90s hip-hop/R&B. Loving the beat on Kick Your game. Into this so far. Vibes dip from Diggin' On You until it gets to Waterfalls (DON'T GO CHASING WATERFALLSSSS). The horns and the funky bass give the song such a smooth flow. Such a jam. Unfortunately nothing else stands out until Andre 3000 comes on the last track. This one was probably a little too R&B heavy for my taste. It's usually hit or miss with straight R&B songs and it was 50/50 for me on this album. It made the album drag slightly and the runtime is fairly long. I'd give this a High 3 (3.5 stars) that borders on a 4.
NGL the Intro-lude was pretty dope. Pulling Phife Dawg in to throw down a solid 45 second group intro is a fine investment. Creep is some solid downtempo R&B. Vocals trend a little nasaly for my liking, but are otherwise fine. Good cruising music. Kick Your Game has a distinctly 90s funk vibe about it -- mirrors some other boy band production elements (cowbells, etc.) -- I'm into it, solid mic passing and vocal layering. Not diggin Diggin' On You. Kinda makes me sleepy. Waterfalls is a classic for a reason -- that chorus is catchy as hell and the production is delightful. The mic'ing on the toilet flush of Sexy-Interlude was for some reason deeply uncomfortable. Always enjoy early Andre 3000 -- this coming before they even dropped ATLiens. Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes is a solid track to end on. When I think of 90s R&B I don't tend to get excited, but this scratched a certain nostalgic itch this morning. As a whole the album runs a bit long for my liking, but the production throughout was fine and there were only a couple of songs that I found skip-worthy. For me this sits somewhere in the high 3 territory.
Had a couple songs I really liked and the vocals were really great all the way through. Ultimately though this falls into the same bucket as all other 90's hip-hop where it's fine/good, but it's just too long and never really excites me outside a couple songs.
Der Sound ist sehr recognizable und distinct, gute Wissenslücke gefüllt, gut klingendes Album.
Good vibes, did not appreciate the overly sexual songs. 2.5
Too horny for Monday at 11am in a cubicle lol. While it’s fun at times, the production is incredibly dated. The slang is dated too, so much so that I’d sooner use the word “cringe” than “cool.”
3.5
I can't quite tell, but suspect that some of these songs were about sex.
Crazy, sexy, 90s pure bliss.
Good for what it is but 90s R&B really isn't my sort of thing.
This is fine but nothing special. Makes me think of Michael Keaton quoting TLC lyrics in “The Other Guys”, and Will Poulter doing the complete middle rap of Waterfalls in “We’re the Millers’. Both are hilarious.
Verdict: Crazy? In 2025, there is something “crazy” about having Diddy intoning “crazy, sexy, cool” on your record, but I can’t blame 1994 TLC for including him. I doubt they knew. “Ready to Die” only came out two months before this album; Diddy hadn’t even gotten big yet. I give this a 1/10 crazy. Sexy? Yeah, so much so I’m surprised we had this in our house when I was 11. Cool? In the 90s, you could not get cooler than this album. But its production now feels a little dated. I haven’t even watched the Waterfalls video and its CGI attempts. So, not awarding full “cool” points.
Pretty standard
big ones and filler. could i write poetry to this? n
Remember when Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes burned Andre Rison's house down? That shit was crazy, right? And then the whole David Justice and Halle Berry thing...that was some news back then. Winona Ryder was dating all those shaggy-looking Rock stars and shoplifting too? Just nuts, right? Aww, man... I almost forgot about Jennifer Lopez and that green dress. Wasn't she with Puff Daddy at the time? Damn, I miss the Nineties. Anywayyyy.... "Waterfalls" is a killer track. The rest is pretty alright, I guess. Minus at least a half-star for TLC's association with the aforementioned Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs.
Pretty good. 2 bangers and some generics, but good enough for a 3.
Big bangers, a load of clangers. There's a real consistency in the big pop albums on here being simply too long. When they hit though, they hit hard, and obviously Waterfalls is a huge song.
Some good/forgettable moments
Really wish I could give this a 3.5; it deserves more than a 3 but doesn't quite reach my personal criteria for a 4.
One of the better female group. Some vibey songs. "Don't go chasing waterfalls" album
Ok, some very nice songs, some not so ...
Happy to listen to this, nice flow
Would have been four stars if it was half the length
#574. I remember TLC being a force to be fucking reckoned with back in the 90s, but listening to it now it just doesn't seem to be as powerful for whatever reason. I suppose all pop music expires after the time period it existed in, and there's no getting around that. 3/5: still not terrible by any means
Aight
This was a dope album. Just vibes all the way through, you can see why they popped when they did. Not particularly my cup of tea, but good.
The more I listened the less I liked it.
Waterfalls
I listened to this quite a bit when I was in college. Good album. More interesting band members.
Diddy record
started off slow, but picked up pretty decently well what the fuck is sexy (interlude) doing
There are some good songs on here, but also far too much filler.
I cannot believe CrazySexyCool came out in 1994! TLC absolutely are trailblazers. After the eighties and early nineties male-dominated hip hop, CrazySexyCool is a breath of fresh air with these women owning their sexuality while making such a smooth album (with really sick beats). The power that came from their lyrics is undeniable. I loved their cover of Prince's "If I Was Your Girlfriend"; somehow TLC made it even funkier and I have to trust that Prince loved what they did. And speaking of other artists, I suspect TLC and CrazySexyCool influenced Christina Aguilera, particularly for her Stripped album.
TLC was always great at striking such a strong balance of hip-hop and R&B, and this album that put them on the map exemplifies that. Outstanding album production and sultry voices with compelling harmony add to the album's charm. At this point in the 90s, both the hip-hop and R&B genres were typically pretty "heavy" genres, production-wise; they were full of very thick, very weighty sounds. That said, TLC found a way to take these sounds and make them a little bit different; they found a way to make hip-hop a little more light and R&B a little more airy. They somehow manage to do this while also including a fair bit of funk in their sound. TLC would go on to become a bit of a blueprint for girl groups in these genre spaces, but nobody ever did things quite like TLC.
decent album, got some nice R&B songs
What a cool and sensual album, I enjoyed listening to every song. I don't listen to much Pop and R&B, but this album feels so smooth and polished. The beats and the mix are like butter, the vocals are soulful and nicely blended in. I also liked the hip-hop elements which are also mixed in well and the crossover between vocal styles is seamless. The album also feels so 90s, the vibe is 100% there, which is a good thing in my opinion. There is nothing exaggerated on here, the album is sexy, but not overly so. The vocals are tamed and there are no crazy highs or falsetto. for example. Solid album, an easy listen on any day.
Hard to rate. 3 great tracks (Creep, Waterfalls, Kick Your Game) but a lot of the rest I thought was just forgettable or filler.
Love the hits
The songs I already knew are great. The songs I didn’t we’re fine to good. The interludes were terrible and annoying.
Childhood memories. ...I remember it as being better though. Waterfalls is good of course. 3,5/5
I only knew "waterfalls" before listening this album. I don't like this kind of music but is well produced. I just don't like it. And I hate that the assholes Diddy was involved in this. The story of Lisa "left eye" is just sad RIP.
вроде норм но интерлюдии меня поломали и просто переключилась
A perfectly listenable album. Nothing particularly stood out to me as bad, or amazing either.
Boring
oO__*cRaZySeXyCoOL*__Oo
meh it is off to a very relaxed hip pop start. This is the Waterfalls album? okay cool. Andre 3000 on the last track! the guest spots are cool and the album has occasional flashes but is broadly a miss for me
It's slick and well produced and Prince like at times. I just find it a bit of a dull genre and find it hard to get excited.
solid 90’s rnb, not too much more to say tbh the performances and instrumentals don’t wow me by any means, but i didn’t expect them to either just perfectly enjoyable overall
Objectively, this is a very solid album in the genre. Subjectively, it's fine, just not totally my cup of tea.
-okk this is a vibe… i had actually not heard anything by TLC other than No Scrubs and I didn’t realize how melodic their stuff was. I can see the roots of a lot of modern r&b and hiphop I like coming into being here -rip lisa lopes -I would plug this somewhere between 3.5 and 4 tbh -Favorites are Creep, Kick Your Game, and Waterfalls
Probabil bombă, not my style too much
A nice 90’s throwback, a little longer than I liked, but these jams are still smooth.
Some of this was great. I couldn’t help but think of Girls5Eva during a lot of it. They were/are very clearly very talented and Waterfalls is a masterpiece. Comes out to a solid 3 for me.
[3.5]
# 434 : 12/03/2025 : They've done a pretty decent job. I think Its OK, I could listen to it and a couple of things stood out. There are interesting bits of R'n'B in it and the background music is pretty OK, But there were more songs I wasn’t really a fan of. But most songs are cool and horny LOL :-D. Honourable Mention : Waterfalls
Kinda sexy, mostly cool. Virtually no crazy
I had only heard waterfalls before bit this album has lots more. It just kind of flows well through the whole thing. I definitely liked it a lot more than I expected
Relationships and sex from a female perspective… so excited to hear the boys take on this one 😉 Not something I’d usually listen to but I appreciate it for what it is and what it represented especially in the 90’s - a sex positive album. However I don’t know that I personally need an entire album about sex from a male or female perspective lol. I really like the actual music of this album and how it blends rock, jazz, r and b. Also waterfalls in an incredible song and I will hear no other opinion. Switch and Somethin wicked this way comes were also so great what a way to end the album. I hope we all feel closer after listening to this sexy album together ❤️
I love a concept album! 3/5
3.5
A bit too long, was expecting more because the only song I knew before listening to the album, Waterfalls, is so good and a r&b classic
Not really my thing but I can respect it. The beats are very well produced and chill. Waterfalls is a fun song. I think they should've trimmed a couple tracks, especially the interludes and made it a bit tighter.
This wasn’t bad. Not my usual kind of music. Nothing memorable though.
I had previously listened to the radio hits on this, but it's been a really long time. It was fun to hear Andre 3k on this.
Rentoa radio RnB:tä. Yksi tuttu biisi, Waterfalls. Outo vessahuumori interlude. Parhaat: Waterfalls, Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes, Creep
I feel like this is the embodiment of the “love and basketball” soundtrack vibe. 90’s LA may have had the best vibe of all time. Some classics for sure otherwise good easy listening
Mediocre
Kinda cheesy. Waterfall is a great song; gotta love Red Light for its frank request for eating out. Can I get a Witness is cringe.
Empezó muy bien pero luego se estancó en temas muy tranquilos aunque sensuales. Creep, gran canción. Nota: 3.0
Meh not too crazy about this. Not bad. Just not my taste
Helt ok, inget svinnice som stack ut
