Reviews (page 10 of 15)
Big fan of this, some seriously good music. Don’t think I have ever listened to the full album back to front in one sitting
it was like an eternal sunshine
My first ever listen of a Pink Floyd album. This made me eager to further dive into their discography. This album is moody and cinematic, perfect for the current cold weather. Loved!
Enjoyable listen. The album feels very short, but makes the most of its time. Shine on your Crazy diamond was a musical highlight, as it builds to the iconic chorus. My favorite track was the title track, great vocals and instrumentation. looking forward to more from pink floyd
Not as gripping as the first album I listened to, but still enjoyable
I had this album growing up, so a proper trip down memory lane for me. Am I voting for nostalgia? Yes. Is it a great album? Also yes.
Familiar with on song in total. Lot of parts I had never listened too before. Good guitar sections.
Liked this more than Dark Side of the Moon
Wish You Were Here is an album i liked quite a lot. The most i really knew of this album prior to listening to it was the cover photo, more accurately, the Barbenheimer edit but i can say that this album is very good. The main star of the show for this album was the music as the vocals were not particularly special but the music sure was. The guitars here were very pleasing, as were the electronic sounds and there was that one cool saxophone solo in Shine On You Crazy Diamonds (Pts. 1-5). I was pretty split on whether to give this album a 3 or a 4 but after some thinking i decided to give it a 4 since its clearly a labor of love and i can really respect that. Best Song: Welcome to the Machine Worst Song: Have a Cigar
8.8
i rlly need to be high
The 4th Best Pink Floyd album, It's very good its very enjoyable. It's also a bit boring at times. Wish you were here, is one of the all time songs tbf.
I wanted to like this a lot more than I did but it almost felt as if they weren't really trying in spite of how good what was there ended up being? I dunno, I came away wanting more so I definitely can't give this full marks.
one of my major blindspots. Only knew the title track. That's still the standout as far as I'm concerned but what a well fleshed out, expansive and far reaching album. I think the import of it will hit me on further listening but honestly spent most of this wanting to relisten to The Specials lol
amo este album con todo mi ser por la nostalgia, creo que fue el primero que escuché con MUCHA atención y de las primeras canciones que intenté aprenderme en guitarra (wish you were here suena fácil pero está cabrón) tqm pink floyd
Love love love 💗 magnificent !
Iconic
I really like how long all the songs are. My favourite is the title track.
Очень красиво, слушать 100% в наушниках нужно "Wish You Were Here" - даже пошли мурашки)
I thought this was a really great album, my favorite song by far was Wish You Were Here.
p350. 1975. 4 stars. Strays into 70s prog-rock wankage a little too often for 5 stars, but otherwise it's brilliant.
Synthy me likey
Strong prog rock (no duh). Interesting commentary, kinda Matrix-esque. Very fun, actively want to listen to this again. Too much instrumental and songs are too long for 5 stars - 5 songs, 45 minutes. No thanks. Better be the best thing I've ever heard if you're gonna do that - Strong intro, has me curious. On brand for Pink Floyd - Cinematic. Vibing - Shoulda just chopped the songs in their natural places but we're pushing through - big 'what if a rock band played like a symphony orchestra' vibes. Dunno if we'll get any lyrics in this album - Most of the way through the first song. Still vibing - Singing!! Queen-y, don't think that's a good thing here - Lyrics are strong. Still holding water - 2nd song switches it up. Similar cinematic intro. Weaker but still decent. Strong lyrics, a bit dystopian cyber-punk for my liking - Loving the lyrics, mid on the music at times. Shaping up to a reliable 4 star album. I like the concept.
heard most of it already
Such a familiar album, from my schooldays. Rich, complex sound, original and unpredictable back then. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this today.
It's a great album, i don't think the Shine closer is needed though, the intro is brilliant, leave it like that.
Très bon album
Schade schon vorbei
I always wished I listened to more Pink Floyd when I was younger. My guitar teacher exposed me to just enough to whet my appetite, but CD prices kept me from digging very far into the catalog. Even still, I’ve spent more hours trying to emulate David Gilmour on guitar than I have any other famous guitar hero, and it’s not even close. In isolation, his guitar is basically just straight blues, at a speed that feels soulful and thoughtful. Most of the psychedelia on this record comes from the synth and keyboards, which don’t seem like the things Floyd is known for. That’s kinda fun. Animals will always have a special place in my heart, but it’s possible this is my second favorite Floyd record.
My dad's fave band before he became a christian nationalist, slay. (He thinks they're of the devil now) I've never really heard them in full before. 1. 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond" - Fucking amazing guitars, wow. The sax is sick. Overall I really like this, but don't love. really cool 2. "Welcome to the Machine" - Woah, this sounds really eerie, I love it. Oooh, the guitars (maybe synths and I'm dumb) coming in then oscillating was super cool. I really really liked this one! 3. "Have a Cigar" - smoking is bad for you >:( Wait, why is this reminding me of the Eagles lol. This one's cool, I like. 4. Wish You Were Here - Oh this is really pretty and cool. I really really like! 5. "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" - This one didn't hit me the same way the first parts did, but still good I'm actually pleasantly surprised by this. I kinda expected to be more "meh" on this, but it was actually really good. I don't think it's one i'd go back to crazy often, but every now and then it could be a fun musical journey. Slay. too bad my dad went his own type of crazy and I can't be like "hey dad, look what I listened to!" please don't put religion over your kids folks lol. 4.5/5
Sick
Shine on you crazy diamond!
I get why people get high and listen to this stuff now.
Classic
Excellent album. maybe even a 5
Amazingly, I'd never listened to this all the way through. It's a trip - definitely feels like going to another world, and it's the prototype for so many things that have come after it.
Favorite Track: Wish You Were Here One of the greatest album covers ever. Great sonic exploration. Love how sparse and melancholy it can be at times. Rock isn’t dead, but a guy who will tell you it is may be right about this album.
8.5
Made me feel cool
Pink Floyd. Considered great by many. It's a band I really like when I'm in the mood for it, and will skip over if I am not. Wasn't feeling it today, which is okay since I know it well. So for me it cannot be a 5 even though it has 5 days, because it also has 2-3 days for me. so 4 it is. I'd own it, I will listen to it again.
quite experimental. i like it
A lot less lyrics then I would’ve liked but nonetheless I really enjoyed it. I forgot what it was like to have songs longer than 2 or 3 minutes
* Notes: Consisting of only 5 songs and being 44 minutes long is insane. This is PEAK stoner music, but also something you could throw on in the background and just zone out to * Overall: A very chill album; showcases the psychedelic sound Pink Floyd is known for; Peak stoner album
Very interesting, sounds great
Always avoided this band. Listening to the whole album actually made me re-evaluate that position. I understand this project a lot better now.
C'est toujours excellent du Pink Floyd
Pretty great chill album. 4 stars for me. Sort of reminds me of 2112 how it’s good to turn on in the dark vibing
Decent album, not quite my speed but had some good vibes
Good album
pretty good, can see how this would start the psych pop evolution
It's very good but probably my 4th favorite by them
31/12/25 Wish you were here, Pink Floyd, 12/09/1975 genere: rock progressivo, art rock, rock sperimentale storia: Wish You Were Here, pubblicato nel 1975, nasce in un momento delicato per i Pink Floyd. Frasi preferite: “We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fishbowl year after year” (Wish you were here); “Oh by the way which one is Pink?” (Have a cigar) Voto complessivo: 9-/10 l’unica pecca che forse non lo è più di tanto è che le canzoni siano poche ma penso che questa scelta sia coerente con i temi trattati all’interno
I do like Pink Floyd but am not a really massive fan aside from Dark Side of The Moon, but I really enjoyed this from start to finish. Loved the opening track 'Shine On You Crazy Diamonds (pts 1-5)'. That had me hooked.
Lovely tribute + anger at industry.
So much depth. I do sometimes wish there were no lyrics. It was just all one ambient piece. I also thought I would find it tough to listen to one song for over 12 mins but because of the amount that’s going on I didn’t even realise.
In just my last review I was shitting on Jeff Beck and his guitar wank. This is guitar wank done right.
Shine on you crazy diamond- abnormally long but extremely powerful Welcome to the machine- makes me feel like I'm transcending Have a cigar- groovy, upbeat and generally fun, gorgeous ending Wish you were here- pure and beautiful, I love the tone of the guitar
Obviously great album. All time classic.
Already knew most of these songs, so I liked it. Pink Floyd is definitely a vibe I have to be looking for, but when it hits it hits.
not my usual type music but I get why it’s so popular - some moments weren’t super me but I liked it!
Really pleasant listen, complex instrumentals. Not my favorite Pink Floyd.
That is some sweet album art. There's a lot going on in this record. It feels like it's traversing through different rock genres, all while making every track connected to the next. Favourite Track(s): Have a Cigar, Shine On You Crazy Diamond (All Parts) Least Favourite Track(s): Welcome to the Machine
Before listening: I am familiar with Pink Floyd but do not usually gravitate towards them ever but that's not to say they are bad or anything. The album name is familiar but this cover art is not. I think the cover art is striking and not something i would associate with a band or even music it feels very high art. The framing of the burnt photograph with the subject also burning doing a deal with himself, there's a lot to be said about this artwork. I assume the association with the album will translate to self sabotaging in some capacity along with corporate America and performance of self. Listening: Very Blade Runner start, sadness of place in space. Ethereal. Fever dream energy, will there be singing? almost 9 min i see. Unfortunately the singing does not fit the vibe i was having a second ago. The saxophone is great. We in an industrial building going to work, the world building is cool. Dark energy, i might be darker if i were reading the lyrics but i am not. There is a lot to unpack with this one, very experimental. There is a complexity that requires more focus than I'm giving it. I always enjoy ambient sounds to create a full picture of a setting at the start or end of a song and its done well here. There is a lot of story telling happening, its going over my head a little but the feeling is persisting. Wish you were here was the most digestible, very radio ready in a good way. It feels like being put to bed for the last time, in a child like sense and an end of life sense. After listening: Very somber, profound. Not at all exciting like i thought Pink Floyd was but i also know my limited understanding of Pink Floyd is just wrong. I enjoyed this more in an art gallery type of way not on the way to work kind of way. I feel heavy. 8/10
Classic
Saxophone in the last 2 mins of shine on you crazy diamond 1-5, no notes The synth throughout!!!!
Shine on you crazy diamon - I love how they can make guitar speak. Vocals are soft but theatrical. Welcome to the machine - Industial sounds go well with acustic guitar in this song but I don't really like vocals here. Wish you were here - My favourite track on this album. It feels like watching sunset from the porch of cabin, summer evening with your closest friends and/or bitter sweetending. Have a cigar isn't much outstanding for me 'cause of vocals which i don't really like here. Overall really good and iconic album. I liked it even though I wouldn't have listened to it if it hadn't been recommended to me. Itstrumentals were perfect but I'm not a big fan of vocals in all of these songs. But i can feel that Wish you were here will stich with me for a long time.
A great band, a great album, and just a fun listen. The guitar licks are groovy and this is the kind of album you could bump over and over again
enjoyable as hell
to quote my brother, "wait, this is one song?"
4,5/5 - timeless classic. amazing artwork, could stare at it for hours.
4/5
Fine - I understand why people love this band.
Good vibes! I would play this in the background while doing something I really enjoy.
This is a good one from start to finish. Enjoyed it.
Haven't listened to this one in years. I bet it holds up? So musically - the opening track has a 9 minute guitar solo to start, and then the song begins. That's a little much for me. But honestly - it mostly works! David Gilmour's playing is so expressive and lyrical. I don't even mind. And that riff that comes in at 4 minutes is excellent. The second round of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a little less impressive to me, but it's pretty fun overall. The three "real" songs in the middle are all excellent musically. My main issue with this album is the theming. Wish You Were Here seems to be about Syd Barrett and the many pitfalls of the music industry. An industry I am not defending! But I'm sorry - am I supposed to empathize with a rock band that rose to stardom at a time when rock bands had a huge amount of creative control over their work, could make tons of cash from recording as well as touring, and were often seen as gods on Earth? "But I didn't like school!!!" Oh cry me a river, Roger. "THEY WANTED ME TO GET A JOBBBBB" Jesus. Get a grip. FOUR STARS
I enjoyed this album. Very cohesive and reflective.
Outstanding tbh. Best prog rock I’ve heard. Crazy Diamond man fuck yes life is good.
Good smooth rock album with clean vocals and instruments. While short I really like it. Not much else to add when its a old school rock album. A genre I listen to and have listened to a lot.
Quelques passages iconiques mais je suis pas le plus grand fan de pink Floyd, c'est un peu trop lent à mon goût. Ça reste très bon 4/5
ok like i hear the music, and I think its good. I like what im hearing... and this album is basically a Roger Waters album so i like it even more... but then i just have never understood the ppl who think floyd is the best band ever... like theyre good!!!! but idk
Great driving music
Wish you were here is one of the all time tracks. Shine on you crazy diamond are also stellar. The album loses me a little through the middle with welcome to the machine, and have a cigar. I think it’s probably part of a broader concept. I don’t dislike those tracks, they just pale in significance. It may be a reflection of my attention span, or perhaps my generation more broadly, but there is a lot of ambient noodling on instruments that I find a little tedious. All in all, it’s a stark contrast to my day one Duck Rock. 4/5
Wow the electronic instrumentals sounds very dreamy and futuristic. very good background music though
great
5 songs all really long, wish you were here carries
The thing about Pink Floyd is they take a lil while to start singing
lovely!!!!! i love a long song
Truly great album - proper ethereal!
Riff of first track goes hard. And the “how I wish you were here” line
Levyn alku oli vähän liian rauhallista vaikka kivoja kitara fiilistelyä mutta loppu olikin yhtä ilotulitusta loppuun saakka. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ei ole tämä bändi ikinä uponnut niin paljon kuin sen ehkä pitäisi. Kova levy kuitenkin.
I'm not a big Pink Floyd fan, I've found a lot of their albums pretty hard to get into or a bit boring. I think I like this one a bit more than most I've heard. It has a bit of a different style to it that I prefer Standouts Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. I-V) 4/5
Classic album. Long moody tracks and a little bit self-indulgent, but enough great moments for core and more general fans.
Hadn't listen to this album in its entirety before. Started slow and wasn't sure when it was gonna kick in. Gotta have been wild as a teenager in the 70s getting to the record store and queuing this up. Would've blown a lot of minds.
Fond memories of getting high as shit with Tyler and listening to this on Isaac's couch. Not the world's biggest Pink Floyd guy but this is definitely my favorite. Plus one for the nostalgia piece.
Me gusta mucho. Creo que empiezo a entender esta gente. Se parecen mas al jarre o a vangelis que a otras cosas
this album feels like unc popped a tab around the campfire and started telling you about the good ol days
Who knew songs could be over ten minutes and good! Very interesting perspective that this record really only has five songs, but is still one of Pink Floyd’s defining works. It’s just not my personal favorite of theirs. Best Track: Wish You Were Here
Classic. Love all the soaring moments, but the end just seemed to be phoned in.
this one is a classic
Great performances and atmosphere. Felt a little samey to other Floyd stuff I've heard in the part though
Pretty cool, but not as good as Dark Side of the Moon. Liked the instrumental sections and the electronic aspects. Favorite Track: Wish You Were Here
Really liked this — started off poorly because I wasn’t open-minded wrt the intro but picked up throughout the project
Great!!
A solid, but overrated Pink Floyd album
not everything on this album is perfect for me But Wish you were here now is great
Wow. I never really sat down and listened to Pink Floyd. This was quite a journey. The tracks are long but don’t feel like they drag on. The production is perfect and every note feels immaculately placed (even the sexy sax solo!). I’m looking forward to hearing more from them.
The third best Pink Floyd album.
Firstly, I’ve never liked “Welcome to the Machine”, which, given its length and the fact that it’s one of only five songs, is a lot to overcome. Secondly, although I like everything else, I differ from the mindset that others have shared so far: for me, it’s absolutely no contest between this and Dark Side, which is as five-star an album as five stars can be in my book. Pink Floyd isn’t even one of my absolute favorite artists (they probably wouldn’t crack my top 50, at least), but Dark Side has always sounded like sheer perfection to me, whereas WYWH has always “merely” been an album I really like. I think “Have a Cigar” is cool as hell, SoYCD is a hell of a composition (I particularly love parts 1-5), and though I may have suffered from burnout in the title track at one point in my life, I’ve come back around to having no issues with it (and thinking it’s a gorgeous, flawless song). As always for Floyd, the performances are nothing short of stellar, and if someone were to argue that it was the emotional apex of their catalog, I wouldn’t disagree at all (if anyone is somehow still unaware of the story surrounding this record, it’s well worth your time to read up on it). It’s just not my preferred album of theirs, or in general. Undoubtedly a 5-star achievement that, in this horrific game of applying a stupid fucking number to assess personal enjoyment, is a high 4 stars for me. 4/5
Wishy washy arena rock silliness, but I like it
Classic album for me.
Probably the only Pink Floyd album you don't need chemical enhancement to appreciate. Wrapping "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" around the album hits is an interesting move. The middle of the album is foundational to every classic rock radio station in the world. My Rating: 4/5
I've been wanting to listen to this album. It is not as good as dark side of the moon, but it was good in giving that classic Pink Floyd aesthetic of vocal free music. It is much shorter than I was expecting. If I came across a used version of this, I would probably get the vinyl. I gave it a second listen, and it is an amazing rock background music, and when the vocals finally come in for "shine on you crazy diamond," very soul lifting
Molt bo...i molt tranqui...7'5.
This was great - I get the hype and the songs were fantastic, journeys into themselves as well as contributing to the whole album journey.
7/10
Jewel!
I listened to this album too many times as a teenager... I still acknowledge its merit but I can't think of it anymore as music for grown-ups. In particular, they take themeselves so fucking seriously: not a glimpse of irony or detachment here. Especially in your lyrics, Roger. It's still somewhat touching how you talk about Syd but, hey man, let's not forget you kicked him out of the band!
Very good.
Good album, familiar with lost songs
I feel like this list has made me truly understand the appeal to Pink Floyd. As I seen (or rather heard) on Dark Side of the Moon, Floyd is about the whole journey, rather than the singles. The way they mix the ethereal, the darkness in a beautiful manner is exceptional. I love the way everything flows together and how they blend synths and sound effects to make all the songs pop. I can’t say this gave me the same impact that Dark Side had, so I don’t exactly think it’s the band’s best album. But it’s still a great album, especially given the context of it as a tribute to Syd Barrett. Favorite track: Wish You Were Here Other hits: Welcome to the Machine, Shine On You Crazy Diamond (all the parts)
Great album. Goosebumps included ——————————— Liked: — Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-5); — Have a Cigar; — Wish You Were Here; — Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 6-9)
I know it's not cool to like this, but it kind of slaps in an old white dude kind of way
I'd put this on after DSOTM to keep the good vibes going, but they just don't keep going in the way I would want.
The rumors are true: it's amazing
very self-indulgent, very good.
Reminds me of mum. Oh How I Wish You Were Here.
Liked this, but it’s not 5 stars. There’s not enough there and some of the tracks are poor in comparison to others.
Classic for a reason
Enjoyable. It is good Floyd. It’s a 3-4 but I think shine on tips the scales in its favour such a good track
good, some bangers
Out of all the Pink Floyd albums I’ve gotten (this is my 4th), I think this is my favorite. The actual music on this album is just downright fantastic. The only thing that drops this from being a 5 is the vocals. Every time someone started singing, I kept wishing they’d shut up so I could go back to listening to just the music.
väldigt bra hela vägen igenom, hade lite svårt för några val gällande ljuddesign och sången gjorde stundtals inte resten av elementen rättvisa, men det är relativt små saker.
oh pink floyd thank you for the album
Pink Floyd has always been interesting to me in the sense that, when speaking with their fans, you always get a different opinion on their favorite album: DSOTM, Animals, Syd Barrett solo work. Their body of work and the way that (mostly) Roger Watters mined himself for material is so impressive. Love this album.
I'm not the biggest fan of prog concept albums. In general, I find them pretentious and self-indulgent. This is an exception to that rule. It's still a bit overwrought but it is still beautiful and highly listenable.
Nostalgic
Pink Floyd is made for this 1001 albums list - they are a concept album band, though some of the singular songs stand out, like "Wish You Were Here". I'm partial to the sleaziness and rollicking guitars, as well as the portrayal of greedy corporate sellouts in "Have a Cigar"
This is one of the best sandwiches ever
In my opinion the best record that Pink Floyd put out. Solid from start to finish. The title track is one of the great rock songs. No complaints.
Two great prog rock albums back to back! Slightly edges out Can but can't quite smash that MF 5 star. Have a Cigar is my favorite, the intro to Welcome to the Machine is incredibly eery.
Only 5 tracks all good.
Classic album about there lost leader syd
That was a really nice experience
Almost gets to the heights of earlier stuff. Still a great musical statement with instruments and lyrics exploring the pain of synthetic life out of our control. I will never not get excited when a Floyd album pops up here. These are ALBUMS in the truest sense. They are always able to deeply explore themes of human life in interesting and profound ways.
Great...thoughtful soundscapes
What a start - madness, could have gone anywhere - ended up in a great place Don't know as much about pink floyd as I probably should and this was a lovely surprise
Pretty nice tbh
77/1089 I really enjoyed listening to this album, the 40mins flew by, probably because it’s only 5 tracks and 2 of them take up over half of the run time but it was a very cool listen and i’ll definitely be coming back to it I have a growing fondness for prog as a style of music and love when songs are given the space to grow and evolve, so this was very much in my interests, i look forward to getting more Pink Floyd from this generator faves: Wish You Were Here, Welcome To The Machine 4 stars
cinema
If 'Animals' is 5 stars, this is 4.5.
I guess I haven’t listened to a lot of Pink Floyd but I like this. Very long songs and sounded a bit like some Dire Straits
Crazy album. The first song is probably the fastest 13 minutes of my life and one of the best prog rock songs ever. Amazing guitar tones all the way through, Gilmour's playing is so locked in for the whole duration of the song and the sax solo at the end is amazing. I love how the whole song, as well as the title track, are just those beautiful meditations dedicated to Syd Barrett. The other songs are maybe not as stunning all the way through as those two, but still contribute beautifully to the grandness of this album. Essential Floyd for sure and really a showing of the band's talent
Shine On and Wish You Were Here just hit so damn hard that poor Machine and Cigars get lost to time even though they are such bangers.
I’m not a huge fan, but this is obviously a solid album. Plus, shine on you crazy diamond is one of the best titles in rock ‘n’ roll history.
Might revisit this review when dark side of the moon inevitably comes up on this list and I can confirm if I’m right that I prefer that album.
Great album, dark sides better.
Thought this was pretty good, but not really great. Given all the praise and accolades it gets, I thought it might be something better. I wasn't necessarily disappointed, just wasn't super impressed. I've been wanting to listen to some more Pink Floyd, as I do like all of their music that I've heard. From this album, I had heard Have a Cigar and Wish You Were Here previously. I like both a lot. The issue for me was that I didn't find the rest to be as good. Shine On was mostly solid and had some really good moments, but the first part was a little meh at times. Welcome to the Machine was probably my least favorite track. There's not much I can say about the album itself that hasn't been discussed for the last several decades. To keep it short, I found parts of the album were on the higher end of good while other parts were simply fine (or a little better). The majority of it was in the good range. Very little on it really struck me as great, though. Overall: 3.75/5
Det har æ aldri hørt før, så det kan æ sikkert høre på, sa Pippi og kom neppe til å høre på det igjen, men det va jo ikke dårlig, bare ikke for mæ.
not sure what i was expecting but it was great. the riffs are awesome and i can see how this was a big influence
Wish You Were Here is an album that I had to listen to a couple times in order for me to draw some understanding from it. It's not as accessible as Dark Side of The Moon by Floyd or even Abbey Road by The Beatles, for its an album that becomes better understood and listened after multiple trials with the album. With that being said I eventually found myself enjoying the album, with the production standing out to me a lot on an album as short in songs as it is.
I can’t really tell if I’d have voted 3 if it wasn’t so iconic or if I seriously like it enough to vote 4 🤔
Does one thing very well. 7/10 22/09/25
Really cool album. Didn’t really care for track 2 or 4 but the rest were fire. 3 was my fav.
Very good but not the best
Really good album, the whole thing has got a great vibe about it and has a good mix of instrumentals and vocals on the tracks. Favorite track on the album was Wish You Were Here.
Not that I really thought Pink Floyd were not good (besides Another Brick in the Wall, which sucks) but I never really gave them a fair try (probably bc of how overplayed the aforementioned song is). My bad! - this album rules.
Banging album
Have a cigar
my name is pink and i’m really glad to meet you
Some days you’re the regular guy on the suit. Some days you’re the guy who is burning alive and forced to attend a business meeting in what appears to be either a vacant movie studio lot or military barracks. Either way, it’s hot, I’m uncomfortable and I’m ready to boomered. I pray that by listening to this album I too can stumble into dirt cheap property and a penchant for being completely oblivious. I think I’ve got point number 2 about halfway sewn up. Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-5) - I knew this as a Mr. Burns expression and believed it to be an original for far too long. Hell, gun to my head, I don’t know if I could’ve spotted the reference before today. What kind of psycho needs this info at gunpoint? And they out Syd Barrett in an asylum. Sad. White boy blues solos all over the front half of this thing. That sounds like an insult, but it really isn’t. Excellent tone and a lot of soul here. I’m not crazy about the main thrust of the song. It’s weird to be this successful band and write about a guy with mental health issues as if he’s dead. Especially when he’s a founding member of the band. That’s kind of icky wnd not explored in that interesting a way to me. I like the industrial outro with the blaring sax. Not a bad track, but I expected more. Welcome to the Machine - Here we go. Eerie, densely layered, and captivating. The lyrics are uhh simple, we’ll say. I think they tell the every day story of dreaming beyond what a simple life offers, only to be pulled into the same vortex we all end up ensnared in. At the sound of the music critics amongst you exhaling sharply and preparing an “errrm actually” through a dry mouth, I will make my exit on this song. Go nuts. Have a Cigar - Ah yes. Cigars. The carcinogenic status symbol of only the most insufferable men. While I do believe in second chances, if you have a photograph of yourself with a cigar and sunglasses at a wedding/graduation; you should be required to perform community service. In the name of taste at the very least. It’s only fair. Fun rock song with the layers that have made this record interesting thus far. Step down from last song, but that’s a high bar. Wish You Were Here - I mean it’s a classic that gets played and played and played and played. It stands up to most of scrutiny even if the melody is ever so slightly obnoxious. I enjoy the lyrics in this one quite a bit even if overplayed. Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 6-8) - Oh Yeah. This is great. So many interesting musical expressions here. This could’ve been the whole song for me. Ugh I’m feeling contrarian today. I think there is a certain stigma attached to bands that I have heard so much about but not really delved into. So many annoying losers in Pink Floyd t shirts. So much praise from mainstream sources. It’s impossible to come in clear headed. Listening to this record was an experience. The sounds are fully engaging, the instruments are played beautifully and a lot of the ideas are interesting. Minor exploitative vibes from the first and last song as I mentioned, but those songs were sonically gripping. What I’m trying to say (poorly) is that this is a powerhouse of an album. Obviously. It envelopes you in its atmosphere. Is it my favourite atmosphere? No. Is it an incredible feat to have woven such an atmosphere? Definitely. I enjoyed this, which feels sinfully understated considering the ambition, but that’s all I can say. HIGHLIGHTS: Welcome to the Machine, Wish You Were Here, Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 6-8)
Excellent album, much prog, very instrument
First time I heard this was on my mates Sony Walkman one night as we smoked a spliff and wandered round the streets of north Liverpool looking for mischief! It blew me away and I bought the record soon afterwards. I think it’s one of their best though I usually don’t bother with Welcome to the Machine or Have a Cigar so it loses a star.
Pink Floyd as they are.
I’ve listened to this many times. This time on an airplane so it was kind of hard to hear every sound, so it kinda just sounded like 4 good songs stretched into 40 minutes of waiting.
4.4 - In seiner Gesamtheit natürlich krass, aber ich würde jetzt kein einzelnes Lied zuhause anmachen.
It’s good!
Is this one of the greatest albums ever? Yes Is it completely amazing? Yes Would I give it 5 stars is Shine down your Crazy diamonds were a few minutes shorter and there was another song on it? Yes
Like The Doors I've never sat down and listened to a Pink Floyd album front to back until now. This was a great one to start with. Somehow the band manages to make 6 tracks and about 45 mins worth of music seem to seamlessly fly by. Its an album that doesn't drag on or feel too pretentious given its in the prog genre.
Eines der besten Pink Floyd Alben. Shine on you crazy diamand und Wish you were here! Dazwischen ist auch nicht von schlechten Eltern. Es hat für mich aber auch ein paar Längen, deswegen 1* Abzug.
Somehow I really needed to listen to some classic Pink Floyd today, and this album absolutely delivered.
That saxophone🔥! Interesting to hear a concept album that reflects on fame and the music industry in this way while also being such a heartfelt send up to a fellow band member. Wish You Were Here and pts I-V have been favorites but Welcome to the Machine stood out to me a lot this time. Have a Cigar is fun but probably my least favorite on the album.
I was worried at first about the 44-minute runtime across 5 songs, having never been a fan of psychedelic jam bands. This was a pleasant surprise: the songs are long, but they always feel like they are going somewhere. The artist communicates in longer "paragraphs" of music than we typically see today, and it takes some getting used to. It's a bit like watching The Fellowship of the Ring: quality is all there, and if you're willing to downshift your usual pace, there's a great story to be told. Musicianship on this record is top notch, synths and sax solos included. It's weird and unfamiliar, but never quite unpleasant or overly indulgent. I ended up listening multiple times, and the songs felt shorter every time. This was the first album I'd listened to from Pink Floyd, and now I'm curious about their other ones.
listening to a pink floyd album is always a unique experience, almost like an event. the various layers create an atmosphere that is honestly like no other. highlights: “welcome to the machine” “have a cigar” “wish you were here”
Este álbum es una función que crece y decrece por siempre
A classic
LOVE. Beautiful, harmonic, thought provoking etc, already loved have a cigar but now love title track similarly
Really liked it, like for listening to it once every 6 months or so and say wow this is so cool and rinse and repeat but its amazing. Para mi es una de esas experiencias super bonitas que revives de vez en cuuando. Es como ver ciertas peliculas, las vez una vez, dices wow que increible peli pero no es como cars o monsters inc que las puedes ver 400 veces
Like a sandwich with premium deli meat, accompanied by garden fresh tomatoes, and the finest Dijon and aioli; between two fluffy pieces of white bread. This sandwich has excellent tonality and production value, with exquisite dynamics.
we're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl 💔
Excellent!
Honestly an incredible listening experience. Songs flow well even though I don't understand most of the story they are telling. Wish the two longer songs were split up more.
Sick album – Just so jammy, enjoyed the listen. These guys were so dope.
Almost there
Phew. After TPAB I needed something I could wind down with. Aside from The Soft Bulletin, I can’t think of an album which fits that purpose better than this one. Wish You Were Here was one of the very first albums that I listened to. While I was never crazy over it like I was with OK Computer, I’ve always had a great respect for this album, even if I’m a little dubious of its sincerity. Anyways, on with the music. Yeah. After all these years, it’s still pretty dang good. I can’t think of another album which captures this kind of irreverent atmosphere and sound, and I don’t think there'll ever be one which comes close. The cosmic sound of this music is pretty sweet and gives the album a timeless appeal, though what I really like about it is how effortlessly the album hops between different moods and sounds. It’s oppressive and tragic for the most part, yet there’s a real sense of journey and progression here, which I adore. “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (1 – 5)” is excellent – my favourite song from Pink Floyd. I don’t recall liking the dark synth in the background as much as I now do, and the effortless, directionless guitar solos at the beginning of the track do a great job at setting the scene. The middle part of the song where the guitar riffs kick in is also pretty great, and so is the organ in the background. Not to mention that the lyrics, which are fantastic. I can still sing along to this song years after I last heard it, which is perhaps the best testament to how memorable this song is. The sax outro is beautiful, too. What can I say? This track has everything going for it. One of the few “long songs” to make the format work. The title track needs no introduction and is another song I can’t help but sing along to – great lyrics. I don’t think there’ll ever be a song cooler than “Wish You Were Here”. I’m a big fan of the grizzled, yet very polished and earnest sound. “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (6 – 9)” has been a bit of a slowburn for me over the years, but I’ve come to appreciate it. It loses points for treading the same ground as its predecessor, yet it’s a good song all the same. I like how it takes the same ingredients from SOYCD 1 – 5 and uses them to create an almost entirely different atmosphere. Very epic and grandiose, with a little bit of a rockabilly sound going on. Where it really wins me over is with that excellent break in the song down the middle and the awesome sound it transitions into – very funky. I can’t think of a better send off to the album, really. Man, I’ve been having it easy lately – I don’t need to check the book for why this is in here. It’s Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. One of the most successful and critically acclaimed albums of all time. Of course it’s worthy of being on the list.
Very good.
A very emotional and timeless record. An album that will be listened to for generations to come. A true classic
Loved the sound though the ear pods. The play, at the start of wish you were here.
I like but don’t love
classic
Much longer than I expected but loving the guitar
only 5 songs and super long Great music and contains one of my favorite songs, "Wish You Were Here", along with "Welcome to the Machine" and "Have a Cigar"
Starting to enjoy songs without much lyrics in them. Melodies can convey more than words can. Really funky beats and synth. Cool vibes.
Iconic. Title track is one of the best tunes ever written. Shine on you crazy diamond is a sprawling space epic and Pink Floyd at the ethereal best. Have a cigar and welcome to the machine are their digs at the music industry and, to be honest, are nowhere near as good as the other 3 (!) tracks on this album. Really hard to rate because when it’s good it’s untouchable but a couple of relative duds in an album of 5 tracks means it can only be a 4 star.
Maybe not something I’d return to, other than the title track, but a good album.
Bueno, descubrí como 70 canciones más gracias al reproductor de spoty
I’m now closer to death but no closer to the truth.
A very Melancholic album by Pink Floyd. It sucks you right in and takes you on a journey about missing a person. It captures those feelings very well and in my eyes the perfect place for solace. Though without any context of what this album is supposed to represent and the things they have been going through at the time of making, it makes it fall rather flat. Especially the two songs "Welcome to the machine" and "Have a cigar" are just okay on their own and mostly just shine because of the story behind them. If looked at for the sole purpose of being against the music industry, there are definitely better songs about that. So it makes sense that when this album came out it wasnt received all to well. Im mostly debating whether or not this is an album I really have to hear before I die. To me the only good reason to listen to this album is "wish you were here". It definitely carries the album but can perfectly exist on its own. Without it, the album would wish it was there..
Excellent album, especially the title track.
Really lovely trip
Surprised how much I enjoyed this and the rating could easily become a 5 in time. Very cohesive
Really liked this! Surprised! Good old fashioned rock n roll.
4.0 rym
pota
The start of my love for Floyd.
this isn't a record in the sense of what the separation of tracks is literally. rather, it is one long composition telling a loose framework of events leading up to its creation. several things are happening in this album that pull the curtain for Pink Floyd as a group. its been done to death what they are talking about and what concepts are displayed. i personally like this more in theory than practice. earlier Pink Floyd with Syd is my style, and that era is a huge theme in this. when it comes to prog rock and ultimately the power of storytelling, this is the meta holy grail. besides the wall, (lol) this basically is the artists showing the audience the truth in a way that can't be censored or delineated by forces above them. without being too on the nose, they are saying that the music industry is not a magical place, but instead a slimy organization that causes individuals within it to make horrible, long lasting decisions. from start to end, you are sucked into the shoes of the band from humble beginnings to gigantic undefinable ends. of course on a technical level, this is probably the best that's ever been made. while seemingly short, its so concise that it never skips a beat, never lulls in silence unnecessarily. styles for the time are lightyears forward as what would be standard in rock for incorporating any influence necessary to tell the story that no one genre can. listening to this zaps you to a period in music where a portal is opened and you have this built in lore that goes with the record and follows the band on tour and adds to it with live experiences. it shatters the expectation of song length, adding debate to what is the best of time versus what goes on the radio. i have tried to be into this particular piece, and i do like all the sum of the parts, but its always been an album that friends and music heads talk about more than i listen to alone. 4/5 because of how relevant this is today. the title track hits home because it is famously about the previous singer, his decline, and the remorse felt after his absence. any musician will attest to this feeling.
I’m not sure I really got the concept of this one (something about the corruption of the music industry I think?), but liked it nonetheless. Wish you were here is an all time song.
Struggling to listen to this. It’s good, but there are events of my life associated with this band and. So I never listen to them. Never listened to the full first or last “shine on you crazy diamond”. Skipped “have a cigar”. I’ve heard that one a lot. I’ve always loved “wish you were here”. Listening again and I still love it. I hate admitting that I like this album. Some of the songs are really overplayed or were where I grew up. The second “shine on” to close the album is really great. I think I’m a third through it and I love it. Vocals just kicked on. No one sounds like Pink Floyd.
I've not listened to this one before, I love pink Floyd, this isn't my favourite but it's quite a nice album listened to altogether
Enkelte partier blir litt langdryge, men på sitt beste er dette et mesterverk. Beste låt: Wish You Were Here
4.25
wonderful, of course
Another top tier album. Almost a 5 but not quite there. All great songs though and will listen to again at some point in time. Have to be in the right mood to listen to it. 8.5/10 (4.25/5)
Really enjoyed it, and I completely see why and how influential it was. Great instrumental and vocals but got a little boring towards the end
Not my favourite Pink Floyd album but still very good. 4 stars or B+.
i liked this a lot! good reading music. wish you were here is great
♫ Listening to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts. 1-5" by Pink Floyd (Wish You Were Here, 1975) ♫
Fine album.
Classic Pink Floyd
Welcome to the Machine is one of the best songs ever written
One of my favorite band and on top of that, two of my favorite tunes on a great album.
The shine on you’s en wish you were here geweldig. De 2 andere nummers niet zo. Eigenlijk 3.5 maar Wish You Were Here maakt dat het dan toch een 4 is
Long tracks, alot of music and not alot of vocals. I like their sound. I need to listen to them more.
The title track 🔥
Enjoyable. Won’t seek this out on my own, but wouldn’t hate to listen to it again.
Spectacular band.
3,9/5
A classic and a favorite.
A masterpiece and not even my favorite album by Pink Floyd.
Like the vibes and instrumental Fav song - Welcome To The Machine 4/5
LOVE IT. know that isn’t too surprising but first time I’ve actually properly listened to them. Maybe helped by just waking up, having the headphones in and going on a proper journey through all the soundscapes and many, MANY layers to each song. SUCH great production. Enjoyed ‘wish you were here’ the song, but actually my least favourite on the album, which was surprising. Great bookends in the intro and outro too. Great album in so many ways. Excited for the next PF albums on the list now.
Top Three Songs: 1) Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 1-5 2) Wish You Were Here 3) Have A Cigar Bottom Three Songs: 1) Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 6-9 2) Welcome To The Machine 3) Have A Cigar
This album makes me understand why pot was such a big deal in the 70s.
Loses one star for wankery self indulgence but there's some genuinely inspired guitar playing and very cool song structures.
I do wish the tracks were shorter, but that's prog for you, eh. Obviously good, not sure if I'll save any cos they're long, but I liked it.
I don’t think I’ve ever listened to this album during the day before, and certainly never just with tea and biscuits to imbibe. I still really enjoyed it though. So that’s good.
fairly decent!
Found this strangely melancholy and menacing at the same time. Ot really felt like an opera, no one track stood out (well except maybe the eponymous track) you had to listen to it as a whole. I own both the Wall and Dark side of the moon, but this was different, more subtle, more wounded. It's almost operatic. “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” is broken into two long bookending parts that frame the whole thing, like the overture and finale of an opera. The middle tracks — “Welcome to the Machine,” “Have a Cigar,” and “Wish You Were Here” — are like dramatic arias or scenes, each adding layers to the themes of disillusionment, exploitation, and loss. Loved it.
jeden z lepszych kawałkow shine
Epic landscape, Ennio Morricone style motif, keyboards sounding like horns. There’s sadness, anger and loss in the lyrics before the sax solo brings the love. The last few bars then become corporate and dark sounds begin. Welcome to the Machine… Country blues guitar herald Roy Harper in a big Stetson singing in American accent, Have a Cigar. Title track is angry and spikey. Shine parts 6-9 doesn’t quite echo the majesty of the opening. Brilliant nonetheless.
4.5
3.5 stars: I really like what it stands for conceptually and contextually, but another album I wouldn't just put on to listen to again.
It's a nice listen. For some reason, I sort of didn't want to like it - some kind of prejudice against the idea of Pink Floyd and how they come across - but it's a really nice sounding piece of art.
Mostly sensational but just begins to lose my interest in a couple of places.
I felt the "Crazy Diamond" guitar solos ran long, but the songs in between are all just first tier Floyd...
really good rock album. there's definitely a story here but im not sure what loving the instrumentals as always
Very cool album
Beautiful album, will defiantly listen again
Another classic Floyd album
Just a fantastic album with so many incredible riffs and solos and moments. Pure mood. A scary dream.
Slightly overrated, but ultimately a journey with some truly beautiful songs
Had never listened to this album before. It sure gets noodly!
I suppose my favorite Pink Floyd album. Not sure what else to say about it.
a little less accessible than Dark Side or The Wall, but just as epic and well-built.
4.5/5, such a tight album with some all time songs, great story and commentary, only thing is the last song takes slightly too long
It’s all about Syd, right? “Shine on…” is famously about him, but hearing all the other songs bookended with “shine on” got me thinking the album is a love letter.
An all-timer from the prog rock masters during their peak. None of their other albums can top Dark Side of the Moon, but this comes close, along with The Wall. But that one is so goddamn depressing to listen to, at least this one has a few fun moments amid the darkness. And by that I basically just mean their one fun kinda upbeat song that's still a funky, cynical take on music industry executives. But some of the Shine on You Crazy Diamond sections are fun, too. And though the title track is a somber, melancholic statement on the loss of Syd Barrett, it always struck me as hopeful or at least, accepting of that loss and not in any of the other stages of grief. There's a reason it was rated #18th best rock song of all time; I'd never rank it that high, but people def respond to it. Pink Floyd's early albums are more fun and weird, and their later stuff is less than stellar but their peak concept album phase is them at their best, and this album fires on all cylinders. It's a more than worthy follow up to Dark Side of the Moon, but I will add that I actually play Animals and Atom Heart Mother more than this album. The songs on those two albums are more enjoyable/easier to relisten to than these, at least to me. But I'm sure part of that is having way more fatigue with this album from classic rock radio growing up. Wish You Were Here is a better album than either of those two, though its inclusion on this list is interesting. The Wall is probably more popular/has a bigger cult following and DSOTM is an all-timer, so I'd expect those two to make it over this. But it's not a bad pick!
Must have really been something to have Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd making new music at the same time. Wish You Were Here reminded me of Animals, which I adore! Have a Cigar is a trip.
very sweet of them to dedicate a whole album to their best friend who went insane
hell yeah
Brilliance. Tenderness. I love this album, always have but it makes me sad for Syd's demise.
Complexity arises from simple elements. Those simple elements in the right hands create sublime compounds.
Sounds like guitar and saxophone and a little alien feel. Reminds me of animusic. A little Beatly. Short album. Also reminds me of Alan Parsons.
This album's a real pleasure. I was particularly struck by the mix of synths and analogue instruments on Welcome to the Machine, still managing to sound quite contemporary to me, despite being 50 years old! Amazing foresight, continuing influence, or mere coincidence of the neverending roundabout of musical fashion: you decide!
Very experimental/trippy album - honestly think I liked that more than the actual songs. Regardless, overall a great album and definitely solidifies the vibe of the mid 1970s. 4/5
4.7- Beautiful instrumentation. Key changes, tempo adjustments, the harmonies, it’s all masterful. In my opinion, this album was created for the ears of other musicians. There’s so much happening and so much to acknowledge as well as appreciate, but it’s not too much where you get overwhelmed. HIGHLY recommended headphones. The only thing I’d take off for is the lack of actual vocals, but that’s just Pink Floyd. It’s experimental and can’t be everybody’s cup of tea… like all music. My favorite song was “Have a Cigar”
mmmm classic. Have a Cigar is one of my fave Pink Floyd songs. 4.5
Pre-lisrening, this is an album I enjoy. And not just because of weed. This listen was no different. A good example of a complete album rather than a collection of songs on an album.
6 songs isn’t enough. Only reason it’s not 5 stars
Canny this. Started slow, a bit Dire Straitsy for my liking, but picked up. Have a Cigar was my favourite, possibly bringing back nostalgia from a compilation I had as a kid that had a Foo Fighters cover of it. Can’t see me returning, but it was good. I think I preferred one of the other ones we had, but the fact I cant remember which one it was proves I probably wont be back
I love Pink Floyd and a lot of these songs are awesome. However it also contains a song I’ve always disliked “welcome to the machine”. I hate the droney nature of it. Overall a great listen
No to jest klasyk. Chociaż ja mam problem z progresywnym rockiem i utworami, które trwają rok. Mimo tego Wish you were here jak w liście przebojów trójki: u mnie wysoko, bo to piękny, pełen emocji utwór. 7/10.
En bra vändning för pink floyd, att ha fyra låtar gör det mycket mer fokuserat.
a ouvir. PF é muito chato mas pode ser q mude de ideia
Overall it has a strong take on the instrumentals and feels like a ride to listen. However, lyrically feels very weak apart from the popular boy wish you were here
forever a classic :)
Very good
Ethereal I would say. I understand why it's on this list now. Pink Floyd is a legend for a reason. It's pretty cool to listen to this
The 70s were a wild time for music and these guys really pushed it. The production is remarkable and the patience required of the listener basically forces you to smoke a j, sit back and relax. Not a radio friendly unit shifter: but then Wish You Were Here pops up and shows that they have the ability to drop an absolute banger in amongst the jams. Remarkable.
This is what listenable prog rock sounds like. Experimental within cohesive concepts and overarching themes. This isn't an all-the-time album for me but there's plenty to love from the inspired reflections in the lyricism, fantastic use of early synthwork, and epic overtones.
"Wish You Were Here" may not be the most memorable album of Pink Floyd's career, but it is still very well appreciated for its cohesion in terms of production and lyrics. It falls a little short of the band's great albums, but it is still an excellent work.
Not a bad tune on it! One of my all time favorites and it flows like a novel! "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is an epic song with depth, insight and substance. "Wish You Were Here" is pushing a Billion Listens! Every song on here has over 70M listens which is a testament to it's longevity and popularity. Half the album still gets airplay on FM and streaming radio. You can't knock the musicianship, the influence and the popularity. This album deserves a spot in the Top 1001 for sure. 4 solid stars.
Another album I'd already listened to... Oh well, at least this one is great. Pink Floyd can be pretty hit and miss for me, but this record and Meddle are pretty undeniable. A beautiful sendoff to one of 60s rock's most mercurial figures. Sometimes I feel like this album sacrifices immediacy for atmosphere, but then I bowled over by the gorgeous melodies both acoustic and synthesized. Great record
Beautiful album
Immaculate first half, great overall atmosphere
Approx. 10 years ago, Wish You Were Here was one of the few songs I learned how to fully play during my short stint as a guitar player
This is a nice follow up to Dark Side of the Moon. Super mellow and slow burning. Not my favorite Pink Floyd album, but it does have two of my favorites, Have a Cigar and the title track. I love the cover art. Normally, I'd give their albums a 5, but this gets a 4. The songs are too long, yet the album is too short. Not sure if that makes sense. I want more.
Another great one by Pink Floyd. Those four notes in Shine On You Crazy Diamond are iconic. Wish You Were Here is such a great song. Just another solid album from these guys.
