One of my favorite albums

Obviously 5*

Nice songs, didn't know many modern songs still have essense of pink floyd in em.

full journey

Contains the greatest song ever

This was really nice to listen to on a block where I just needed to get some work done. It flows incredibly well end-to-end and takes you to different places along the way without being jarring or pretentious. Loved hearing this again after a long hiatus.

This is still the perfect album for when you want to stargaze on a cloudy day. Close your eyes and melt into the everything.

What happens when you have to top one of the biggest albums ever made: you just get better. Musically it's more Gilmour than Waters, and the better for it. Excellent tone and a tide of both grandeur and ennui. (Also, that 'Have a Cigar' intro is one of the most porno-sounding things ever recorded. Class.) Definitely higher in the pile than Dark Side, deservedly so.

One of my favorite albums ever.

10/10, of course. Nothing I’d change about this album

That's a 10. I don't know if I like this or The Wall best, as they are both phenomenal but very different

One of my most-listened albums ever. I don’t go back to it super often anymore, but every time I do it’s like a breath of fresh air. 10/10

What can I say? An absolute classic. The only question is whether this is a 4.75 or a straight 5 for me. I find this album more personally enjoyable than Dark Side or Animals, which are the consensus and music nerd picks for the best late era Pink Floyd album respectively. All three are great. (The Wall doesn't belong in this discussion, IMO. There's a number of great songs on it, but it's one of the most blatantly bloated albums of all time.)

God, this was beautiful. My favorite Pink Floyd album

One of my favorite albums. In my opinion Pink Floyd’s second best album but my personal favorite. It’s so easy to get lost in the sounds of shine on. Wish you were here is a beautiful song. Have a cigar really rounds out the album, helping it transition from the beginning to the end. Everyone about this album is outstanding. 9.8/10

Perfect album!

Legendery

Shine on you crazy diamond. Shine on.

Over the years Shine On and Have a Cigar have only grown in my estimation, though my enthusiasm for Welcome to the Machine has waned. Still, pretty unimpeachable record you got here, Mr. Floyd.

True Rating: 100/100

Wahnsinn! Grade shine on you crazy diamond…

My favorite album from (one of) my all-time favorite groups. Dark Side of the Moon may get more glory, and it deserves the praise it gets, but this album is the Pink Floyd at their best for me, especially Richard Wright. The synths on this project are so massive, but so emotional at the same time. This band really just has a way of grabbing a hold of you and whisking you away into whatever world they are crafting in the music. And when you add the inspiration to most of the lyrics and the story of Syd Barret into it all, you get the cherry on top of this sweet, sweet dessert.

The album before my fave. I can hear the vocal transitions happening, and the soundscape elements that I love so much really begin to blossom here.

Woah. I was not expecting to really love this. This album is beautiful.

Classic album

Flawless

this is another album that's very difficult to be even remotely objective about. it came into my life at a time that should be impossible to be nostalgic about, but somehow this album makes it not only possible, but inevitable. also, knowing the bookend tracks are all about syd really gives the whole thing weight. plus, the title track - every guitarist learns that opening at some point, i'm sure. this album is of its time, but timeless.

5/5. Know this album so well. It is a masterpiece. Every song is great.

When I first heard this I was a bit disappointed - I guess I was expecting more aggressive and innovative synthesizers and effects that they had laid down on Dark Side and its predecessors - but I got over it.

A lot has been said about this album so I don’t need to repeat it. I would say that Meddle, DSOTM, Animals and The Wall are all excellent but Wish you were here may just edge out the others, ever so slightly.

This is in the running for my top 10 albums of all time. Love it so much.

Overlooked because of their two classic concept albums but still great.

Probably didn’t enjoy it quite as much as Dark side of the moon but it’s still great. Shine on you crazy diamond is really awesome

One of the greatest prog albums of all time.

I think that more has been said about this album than ever needs to be said about any album, probably, so just take my five stars.

In high school Pink Floyd was my favourite band. And this is my favourite album from them. I have moved on from my high school tastes but this album is still great. 5 stars

dies de dies

5! If I was high it would be a 10 and I'd be spending an hour trying to figure out how to find the 10. One of the classics. One of rock's masterpieces. Beautiful.

One of my favorites!

Magi! Bäst: "Shine on you crazy diamond, Pts. 1-5"

Very instrumental rock.

One of my all time favorite albums!

Fantastic. Definitely a return to listen.

Really liked this one, very chill

Definitely Top 5 of all time. Planetarium Rock. It's a celebration of grand transience and wistful recognition of the fleetingness of all things combined with some serious guitar solos/rocking out.

GOLD!!!

Listened before. GOAT album

One of the all time great

classic

Magic from the first second to the last

Ill give it a five just for wish you were here, the shine on you crazy diamond is a 4.

One of the greats. Bloody marvellous at high volume!

Superb, nothing like it!

Never stop shining you crazy diamond

Psych rock, how is this from 1975 it sounds so FRESH

Quem nao foi no show do Roger Waters eh otario.

AWESOOOOMEEEE

Such a drastic change in quality compared to the other prog rock record from yesterday. Pink Floyd was in their prime with this one, and this a huge fucking stride to hit. Instrumentally rich, compositionally unmatched, structured perfectly. Only gripe I have is with David Gilmour's occasionally strained vocals, but man is it easy to look past. One of the best albums ever.

Easy 5 star.

its a 5 every day of the week. Reminds me of being late teens, drugs, mates. Great.

Classic!

I love this music; I've listened to it many times before so I'm pretty biased. Pink Floyd albums are an immersive experience. This album in particular takes me back to driving through southern Utah deserts in the middle of the night, helping to make me feel like I was on a different planet. This music is so intense, so surreal, so expansive. Plus so much history behind these songs. This is why people still love Pink Floyd.

Incredible piece of music imo, great album, very cohesive for it's time 😉

5.0 + Getting blazed and listening to this record in my buddy’s Nissan Maxima was among the most formative music experiences of my teenage years.

Excellent Album. Short but very good

I am still on a trip

2nd only to Darkside

I have listened to this vinyl more than 10x in the last week. This is a gemstone, a travel through the ages, sadness, nostalgia, joy, and every feeling in between. A political, social and cultural statement that breaks chains and gets you through a vortex of timeless music.

What should I say - one of the best album ever. A milestone in the music history I saw Pink Floyd in Dortmund operating "The Wall"

Muy bueno

I’ve only ever heard radio edits of these songs, and album is much better than I thought it’d be.

Indispensable

Amazing dad rock. Can't really beat this one.

Great record! Really enjoyed listening to it again, start to finish. Good soundtrack to a chill morning frying bacon and eggs for the fam.

One of my favorite albums - if not my favorite - of all time. The title song is the first song I learned to play on guitar and is still my go-to “noodling” song when I pick up the instrument. I love everything about the album and all of its weird little idiosyncrasies.

Es muy obvio no?...5!

I've loved this album for far too long to have any objectivity. Flawless. Fave track - "Wish You Were Here", I guess, but really I think the whole album should be consumed as one cohesive unit...

These guys changed the game

Songs: Wish You Were Here, Shine 1-5, Welcome to the Manchine

Classic rock is classic but shit, yeah.

It's pink floyd, whats not to love.

One of my favorite albums.

classic

Simple.

One of my favourite albums by one of my favourite bands. Enough said there really.

One of the all time greats

Algo así con 'Wish You Were Here'.

It's Pink Floyd, no explanation needed.

I wish I could give this album an 11. Of all the Floyd albums (Including Dark Side), this is still my favorite.

So good

IMO best pink floyd album. Sue me.

This one is a masterpiece. I've listened to it a ton, every song is great. Best enjoyed by listening to the whole album

Uh ya beat album

Great album, always have time for Pink Floyd.

I don't think it's as high level conceptually as The Wall or even Dark Side, but as an enjoyable collection of tracks it's hard to beat this in Pink Floyd's discography.

Wish you were here...

pang säger det!

A masterpiece

Great rock jams, and best ballad ever.

One of the best ever made.

Love it

Five out of five

I have a hard time picking a favorite Pink Floyd album. In my mind, they can almost do no wrong. If you put a gun to my head, I'll probably say this one. Or maybe it's The Wall. Or maybe Animals (I'm aware this is an unpopular opinion). No, it's probably this one. Best track: Wish You Were Here

Fantastic, epic rock album. Equal parts beautiful and bombastic. Fave tracks: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (1 and 2) and Wish You Were Here.

1975. Key Songs: Wish You Were Here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond

Absolutely timeless

beautiful <3

Pink floyd as one of the bests.

Shine on you crazy diamond celkem goated

It's good, with really a single heavy hitter surrounded by really great accompanying tracks. Classic music vibes. Doesn't have the same gravitas as The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon, but altogether it's a solid fare. Would gladly listen again.

Not bad at all but, as every Pink Floyd album, it is b-o-r-i-n-g.

Overall, there are some genius moments on this record but I just feel like it’s over-produced. I like the early Pink Floyd much more. Everything here feels a little too radio polished to also feel psychedelic. Not enough noise.

Pink Floyd is not my particular flavor of classic rock but I really enjoyed this listen. Lots of MIDI and orchestras patches that caught my attention. Would def go back for a relisten

Touching and great

The overall production/lyrical quality of this album is amazing, and I appreciate that the album only consists of 5 songs rather than a bunch of mediocre 'filler' songs, although they are admittedly longer. The only issue I have with this album is that all the songs utilise a very similar synth/guitar solo sound - at parts the instrumental breaks do sound quite repetitive. I think the dreamy atmosphere of the songs as a whole inadvertently reinforces the overall message of the album - the acoustic guitar passages can be interpreted as representing the band members' nostalgia for a time before fame, romanticising the freedom and authenticity of their earlier lives. In contrast, the recurring synthesiser textures seem to evoke the presence of "the machine"—the music industry's commercial pressures and expectations. Together, these elements create a compelling musical depiction of the band's struggle to preserve their identity while operating within the confines of the industry. I will say I like how the album concludes on a bittersweet tone - perhaps symbolising how they are able to acknowledge their success and global fame whilst reflecting upon the effects that their negative experiences have had on their present selves - including the loss of Syd Barrett and their disillusionment with the music business. This balance between gratitude and regret gives the ending considerable emotional weight. Overall, this is a beautifully composed album featuring a blend of acoustic, electronic, and heavier guitar sounds. Will definitely be re-listening to this! I'm going to give this album a rating of 4/5 - the lyrics are simple yet clever, and the overall sound of this album is encapsulating, although slightly repetitive at times.

I’ve listened to this already

I never listened to Pink Floyd growing up. They weren't on my radar, and I guess I had some weird perception about them, like they were a genre of music I like (although I have no idea what that genre was). They've come up twice so far, and I'm so impressed. I wish I'd been listening to them longer. There was part of a song on this album that I didn't like (not a fan of whiny guitar solos), but I'll definitely be checking out their entire library. It's never too late to find a new band or song!

Initial post listing ranking: 8/10 Type of music / Reminds me of: Thoughts: Me likey. but some parts took me out of it Favorite Track: Wish You Were Here

Tender and personal, the “difficult” follow up to Dark Side is one of their best.

Iconic album cover, but not my favorite Pink Floyd album.

Favourite Songs: Welcome To The Machine

Not necessarily my jam but I do admire the skill

Never really listened to Pink Floyd before so was excited when I opened this one up. And this was cool.

i was able to tell more and more songs/albums influenced by this record alone, but i only truly liked the album-titled track

Good prog rock sounds I heard during splatoon on a Thursday

The titular song is one of the great songs of all time. The rest of the album is also very good. It's probably closer to a 3.5, but that title track, man.... Post review edit: This may be the first time that I liked an album a lot and my score was lower than the average....that's kinda wild

A very melancholy album but quite nice.

Much better than I expected. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (1-5) was a wonderful ride from start to beginning. It set the atmosphere for the rest of the album perfectly. The guitar solo at the end of Have A Cigar makes you lock back in to the album. Shine On (6-9) is a great call back to sandwich the album as it rides off into the sunset

I enjoyed this much more than I thought I would

So poetic. I love it. It's a big fluid emotive expression. It's a fantastic expression of the blues for me - in contrast to half of this list which sometimes feels like fairly dry rehashing of blues in slightly different contexts. Even when using 12 bar blues here I think it does it in a fairly free pleasing way. Gilmore's guitar is so good on this record. That might be the one thing record has over dark side of the moon for me. Otherwise this feels slightly less powerful to me across the board

This album really surprised me. I saw how few tracks there were on a 45-minute album and instantly assumed I was in for a very tedious time. I had not listened to any Pink Floyd before listening to this album, and I was unsure about how I would feel. As soon as noticing how long the first track was, I was completely dreading it, to be honest. However, as soon as those first notes hit, I was in awe. The cinematic feel that this album gives off is unreal. I loved the instrumental throughout, and could listen to it for hours. The vocals are quite few and far between, but they don't come in at a time where they don't belong; They add just as much as any other instrument, and the smooth vocals just work so well with the instrumentation. A really beautiful album to listen to. Favourite track: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts.1-5)

Are there mainstream bands making albums like this nowadays? Were Pink Floyd considered mainstream when this was released? A 14 minute mostly instrumental opening track just feels quite far away from where we are as a society at the moment. We should return to that.

A great sounding album. The title track is wonderfully written and my favorite of the album. Every track was good, though the last track dragged on a little a bit.

I mean its a good album. Not among my favourites but still good.

Just an effortlessly cool album. A lot of fun to listen to, but not as good as some of their other ones.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting. I was thinking I'd be a hipster snob and not like what everyone else does, but this is actually a really solid album.

Great album. So weird and different.

Ricardo. Welcome to the machine helloooo Nota: 4.0

Trippy

Yeah that was good

While never my favorite Pink Floyd album as a whole, with 1001+ albums, it certainly deserves a spot here. Have a Cigar is amazing and Wish You Were Here is one of my favorite songs ever. The textures on this album are top notch. My issue here is that I have never been able to really latch on to Shine On You Crazy Diamond in the ways I feel its intended. Its good, unique and exploratory but I find it just doesn't stick the landing.

Floyd be Pinkin'

personally not my thing really, but i do appreciate it

I like wish you were here but it's a bit bloody long

I have heard this album a number of times before, and expected going in that I would be rating it a four or five. However, it was really just OK for me today. The three shorter songs are all pretty great. However, the very long “Shine on You Crazy Diamond“, two versions of which bookend the album, just doesn’t do it for me.

I've really only seriously listened to Dark Side of the Moon, so this album was mostly a new one for me. I found this wonderfully depressing.

Headphones and some minor substance abuse really made this album a lot of fun. Production is complex and interesting and the vocals have that lovely haunting quality. I kind of wish it was a little more cohesive as a Syd Barrett concept album/tribute. Welcome to the Machine and Have a Cigar are both great songs but they don’t really seem to fit the theme. Or maybe they do and I'm just missing the connections. Anyway it was fun to revisit after a couple of decades.

Pink Floyd is either hit or miss for me. I love the Wall. Dark side of the moon is great. Some of the 80s stuff is just okay. This album is great. But I kind of tuned out Shine on you Crazy Diamond. But the album is really good.

#357/1001. 2nd Pink Floyd album here. I always think beforehand that this was the boring album, but after playing realise that this is crazy diamond. But starting to sound very commercial and stadiumsize, somehow it would have been interesting to hear that album made with kitchen utensils and machines or what was it after dark side of the moon. Some great songs, some of good that they play them twice or extend in to 10 minute lengths, but we still tend to forgive them.

> the Beatles Wish You Were Here is one of the greatest songs of all time. Welcome to the Machine and Have a Cigar are great songs. I unfortunately lose interest in the Shine on You Crazy Diamond segments

not my favorite of theirs, but good

Really solid jam album! I had only heard wish you were here before listening the whole thing down. I am not normally a fan of rock without words but there was such a thick presence that I didn't mind

Shockingly enjoyed this album. Good vibes

Once again another album I listened to not long ago. but it is still about time a pink floyd album appeared on here. So i used to hate pink floyd. I thought they were too slow, too energy sapping and too pretentious to enjoy. Nowadays I see The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon and this some as the best progressive rock albums I have ever listened to. While the other two have certain themes that are easy to understand, this one goes into more of an emotionally complex journey which was clearly inspired by the life and death of Syd Barrett. The first son always sends shivers down my spine whenever I listen to it.I will only give this one four stars but thats only because The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon are better. Although I do need to listen to Meddle and Animals more.

I enjoyed “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” and “Welcome to the Machine,” but the other songs didn’t fulfil me as much. It is a Progressive Rock, Art Rock, and Experimental Rock album that was released on 12 September 1975.

Great album 3/5

Classic Pink Floyd. Again an album I have not enjoyed in its entirity for a while. Enjoyed it!

I used to listen to this album all the time. Perfectly atmospheric, easy listening but intense at the same time. Fantastic work and a classic for a reason

would be 5 stars if the intros wouldnt have been so long

Musically a good album, limited variety. Strong tracks.

If you get the opportunity to make enough records, you will make a road album eventually. Of course, at their imperial pomp, Pink Floyd were in the air on private jets, rather than on the road, and in studios for months, rather than in hotels far from their loved ones, making them further isolated from regular people and their concerns than most musicians. This might explain why Wish You Were Here loses some of the universality of theme that characterised its predecessor - although, isolation may also explain why Dark Side of the Moon tackles broad generalities rather than emotional specifics. It is hard to tell, nine albums in and millions of sales later, how the rock star is meant to connect with anybody. A little luck. Some pandering. A bit of guesswork. Roger Waters certainly doesn't know. And it is amazing that this piece of 'inside baseball' is as successful as it is. He will tackle the core issues of WYWH again later on The Wall, but WYWH is, I think, the more concise, targeted statement - if you can call all nine parts of Shine On You Crazy Diamond either concise or targeted. It's more effective too. For, while the record is not shy in presenting harsh, unpleasant music - Welcome to the Machine and Have A Cigar are intentional grotesques, very hard to listen to for pleasure - it is bookended by some of the angry Waters' most humane and specific writing: a portrait of Syd Barrett, the rock star so disconnected from everybody that his own bandmates hardly recognise him when he visits the studio; and the title track, which also addresses the death of Waters' father. It is hard to gauge what self-awareness Waters has here: in writing about these personal subjects is he being honest and, therefore, creating honest relatable music (universal sentiment mined from biographical specifics) or is he merely feeding material to the machine? Is the Crazy Diamond suite just more myth-building that isolates Barrett - and all rock stars after him - further? Reflecting on the dehumanising effects the industry hand on his friend does nothing to change the industry - it shifts more records and it risks dehumanising him further by abstracting him into mythos. And mythos sells! So when Waters turns that truth into total abstraction on The Wall, creating the rock star avatar, Pink, it feels cheap to me. When he returns to his father's death on The Final Cut, he makes a full album - that's an artistic statement and its a product. Once you're in the machine, it's hard to get out. Even the title track, the most straight-forward sentiment on the album recognises this. It's corny E minor country riff performs authenticity from the get-go, even when filtered through a tight envelop, suggesting a radio speaker - the medium through which all pop music comes to us. When it bursts into technicolour (a closer mapping to The Wizard of Oz than Dark Side of the Moon), it feels more realistic, despite the obvious contrivance. But everything the rock star does is mediated. They are always in the isolation of the vocal booth. Yet, while Pink Floyd acknowledge that here, it doesn't stop Wish You Were Here from being effective. The song is performed at house parties and open mics the world over. Possibly because its sentiment is universal. Possibly because its corny riff much easier than the band's other epic compositions. It's a little luck. Definitely some pandering. And all the guesswork. Once I got deep into Welcome to the Machine, I was certain that I would mark this album lower than expected. I never liked Have A Cigar, but Welcome to the Machine - with its cold washes and dystopian swooshes - felt like seeing how the sausage was made, then having the hard metal sausage shoved down your throat. But I've talked myself out of such sensitive critique. I've talked the album back up. Pink Floyd may be deep inside the machine here, but the machine depends on humanity to keep it running and the humanity here is desperate, sad, and affecting. 4 [our car approaches IKEA as ‘Welcome to the Machine’ plays] Me: “Pink Floyd is making this trip to IKEA feel dystopian”. Fiona: “Every trip to IKEA feels dystopian.” Recently I have indulged in a couple of long(ish) negative reviews. I say indulged because there is such pleasure to be had in negativity. It is moreish, like crisps. Coldplay? Green Day? Why shouldn’t I eat a whole ‚sharing bag‘ in one sitting? Now comes Wish You Were Here to sharpen those pricks of conscience telling me it would be all well and good if I could write a long positive review for a change. Well part of the pleasure of negativity is how easy it is to find fault. Part of the challenge of positively analysing a piece of great Art is that its greatness is often inscrutable. Wish You Were Here is doubly challenging because it genuinely ought to be awful. Successful rock stars moaning about how gross it is to be successful. 25 minutes out of a 45 minute record dedicated to mythologising a former band mate as a ‚legend‘, while throwing in plenty of solos. Synth melodrama. Now that I think of it - my 5 star review for Dark Side of the Moon was wholly negative. I hate this band. Anyway, it’s a really beautiful album. Even, perhaps especially, the solos. Bah. [on the way home from IKEA as the lap steel guitar solo in ‚Shine On… (part 6)‘ plays] The Child: “I don’t want this music.” Me: “Is this not good?” The Child: “No, this is not my favourite.” Me: “What music do you want?” The Child: “I want Bonzo Dog Doh-Dah Band.” 4.5/5

is it objectively fantastic music? yeah, is it also kinda boring? also yeah

Solid!!

Highlights: ALL OF 'EM, BUT WITH AN ASTERISK ONCE AGAIN

This is a great album for letting music wash over you while doing something else. I think it would be a great album if you were doing nothing else as well.

No. 176 Pink Floyd is a very good band. They don't disappoint; this album has good sound. I'm not familiar with their early work, but I liked it.

4/5 https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/pink-floyd/wish-you-were-here/ This guy Pink and I, we just don’t really click. Personally like this more than DSOTM because of the consistency, but the consistency also gets a bit boring sometimes.

Even though I like other albums by them more than this one, I must admit that this is beautiful and relaxing. I liked it a lot. At times I got bored because it kinda got monotonous but it was still very good. Also, as a paranthesis, fuck Roger Waters.

Great PF album, others are better, but this one is good.

Yeah, who IS pink?

I’m not a big fan of this album, in fact, I think it’s quite overrated. That said, it’s still very good, and I’d struggle to criticise much about it (aside from Welcome to the Machine, which I find to be rather lacklustre). Most of the strengths fans point to here are ones I’d agree with; I just wouldn’t go so far as to join them in calling it one of the greatest albums of all time. Personally, I’ve always found Syd Barrett’s work more exciting and engaging. Overall, a great album, perhaps even a legendary one, but not my favourite Pink Floyd release.

I love me some Floyd

A classic pink floyd album. I enjoyed it.

I didn't get it after the first listen, but after listen two I understood. "Wish You Were Here" is obviously the focal point of this album but it's such a good song, truly one of the best ever, that they get away with the other tracks being a bit unfocused. But as a whole this album works so well and I see why it is such a classic. Top Songs: Wish You Were Here, Have a Cigar

i have unfortunately never bought into the pink floyd hype massively (probably because i haven't listened to them enough) but this is great. listened to the title track a lot years ago, i do really like how varied this album feels but also how consistently good it is

I have had every conceivable opinion on this album at one point or another in my life but I hopefully am now settling on firmly thinking that it is indeed great and I should stop trying to resist albums like this because I'm not a teenager or college Freak anymore, I don't have to be EDGY!!!

Pink Floyd was truly untouchable for a few years, and this is an exceptional piece of work: lush, layered, and trippy, but also deeply sad and cynical. The only mark on WYWH is the indulgence of the final track, which could have made as much impact in half the time if only for greater artistic discipline.

I really enjoy the instrumentals here, it's really calm and evokes many emotions at once especially with its lyrics.

i like the instrument

great album knew this going in the instrumentals are worth it alone.

It’s great but I wish it was more fun

An amazing listen. Of course with Pink Floyd it's heavy music and few lyrics, but the lyrics that are there make you think on them for a while. First listen review would be about a 7.5-8/10. definitely want to listen to this one at least twice more tho.

To be honest, I didn't remember that this album only had five songs and that two of them were over 12 minutes long. I only knew that it included my favorite Pink Floyd song (Whish You Were Here). At first, I thought I wouldn't like it and that it would seem too long, but the truth is, I enjoyed it immensely. I even added the first song (the 13-minute one) to my Spotify playlist. The 8-minute introduction is simply incredible, and that song alone conveys so many emotions. A great album from a great band.

popular stuff, trippy and dreary. good for curling up in a ball on a drizzly grey day

really enjoyed it

Favorite: Wish you were here

Good ol' Prog Rock

5 songs 40 minutes?? Really? Can we not. It's ok. Yeah I mean great music it's pink Floyd. This is quality shit. Sal was right. It's captivating instrumentals with dreamy vocals. Big fan. If you can hear this you're dying. Why are we in the washing machine. Oh welcome to the microwave I guess. Ok this is actually great. Why am I kinda getting lorde. Could I tell heaven from hell?? Probably not. The real question is heaven or las vegas. Who really knows. Why are there multiple parts to a song. Mr. Pink what are doing. Favourite: Have A Cigar Least favourite: Welcome To The Machine

love it let’s go

Nearly a 5 for me, just dropped a few points on the very long tracks. Probably the most genuine PF album there is.

I'll always have a soft spot for this one but "Shine On..." is just not their best nor should it bookend the album. You can hear the tension between their creative peak and Dark Side of the Moon with the Brechtian mini-operas Roger Waters would concoct for Animals and The Wall, while the also struggle against an industry thats fully burnt them out and longing to know what could have been if Syd hadn't become an acid casualty. It's not their best but even B work from the Floyd gets a solid rating.

Sevdim ama tam benlik değil

Great album - the track wish you were here is a classic

Sounds confusing and mysterious. Are you looking for something? Like the voice part more.4/5

pt 1-5: My only experience of pink floyd before this are some of the popular singles from the band. This track shows another part that i wasnt familiar with. machine: enjoy the vocals and the synth parts, has a modern feel to it 50 years later. All in all the album was a positive experience, could really feel the cultural impact it had on many future releases that ive listened to. 4/5

Great innit

A sprawling, meandering album. I can see why people would both love and hate this.

Joya de álbum, mi primer acercamiento a Pink Floyd.

Classic!

Espectacular!

I appreciated this album a lot more as an adult than as a teenager. When this group's music first came out, I thought Pink Floyd's music was just strange. Now, I can appreciate its quirkiness and eccentricities. On the whole, I enjoyed this album.

It feels like a political manifesto of the artist’s soul. You don’t just need ears to listen; you need a soul to anchor the short lyrics that hits you like a thousand tons of coal. It’s a beautifully dirty experience.

I really like this album. I know I'm supposed to love it but I can't quite get there. It's really good but doesn't blow me away. 3.9/5

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would

A gripping album, and a fitting ode to a friend and a situation Pink Floyd found themselves in. Mix that with the fact that here they were at their apex in terms of creative energy and just the right amount of angry and you get an album that can rightfully be called the best of all time by some criteria.

sad, slow and nice. Moving in ways where there is this river of emotion that ebbs slowly by, sometimes the tide becomes a little stronger, but all in a serenity that makes you think

Wish You Were Here is probably my favorite Pink Floyd song, and in my Top 50 all time. Great tune. None of the others really speak to me in the same way.

It’s very self indulgent at times, but it’s prog so what do you expect? At least that self indulgence is counterbalanced by good tunes and musicianship beyond mere displays of technical prowess. It’s a classic for a reason, really.

I enjoyed this one. Familiar with wish you were hear, but never listened to full album. Great start!

esta bueno

For a forty-odd minute album with only five tracks, this fair flies by! Favourite track: Wish You Were Here

Good 👍

It was good and it felt self-contained and important. But, I think to me it has somewhat low replay value

Really great. I do like most Pink Floyd.

What a unique listening experience , feels classic and futuristic at the same time. I’d like to listen again.

Need to listen to again

This is the kind of album you put on when you need noise to drown out other distractions while you concentrate on something more important. But, like at a low enough volume so it doesn't overwhelm the senses and distracting you enough to accidentally put down an expensive piece of electronics directly into a cheap glass of whiskey. Why was that so specific? No reason... Anyway, the music is pretty good. Record is maximum Floyd.

I've never been much of a Pink Floyd fan, but I think I like this album. I can't say why.

My rating is almost entirely based on the title track, which is one of the very best songs ever written.

This album's kinda like an Oreo... the top and bottom are alright, but it's really that creamy center everybody wants... That said, I don't think I'd like chomping down on just a wad of cream filling without the cookies; so, for atmospheric completeness, I guess the 26-minute, 9-piece intro-outro serves its purpose in the recipe. 4 stars as is; 5 stars with the sax replaced by a glass of ice-cold milk.

A lovely, well composed album. I wonder if I wasn't in the totally right headspace for it, I don't know if I got the same thing out of it that others have. I could feel the themes of wanting more and alienation coming through the lyrics, and the music is very well done. But still, it did not hit with me the way I maybe expected it to. Still great.

I don't know how to write reviews, it's a note anyway... The album is wonderful, the mixing, the electronic instruments, especially the guitar! The voice is beautiful and the idea is simply divine, especially the creation of the album and who it is named after, and especially the song of the same name in it. And that sound at the beginning of shine like a crazy diamond, that electronic noise... Beauty... But, I can't give a score higher than 4.5... I just can't imagine listening to him on a daily basis. I admit it's one of the greatest albums of all time, but the music from there just isn't mine... Although, I'll add wish you were here to myself))) I really liked her.

A very pleasant listen, a lot of instrumental madness. Will most likely have to return to this album to listen to it again and try to discover more of it.

Finally a Pink Floyd album I actually enjoyed! Previous entries were "The Wall" and "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn". This album is really interesting, there's some fantastic instrumentals, the music is deeply layered but the synth effects aren't overdone. Pretty much all of this album is profoundly sad. Not being a Pink Floyd fan, I wasn't aware of the backstory of this album prior to listening, but it came across fantastically throughout. Probably the most impactful aspect is the fact that the vocals are pretty sparse. In particular, the first half of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", there were moments where it felt like the mournful guitar was a vocalist, and it was a great listen. Not sure how much I'll go back to this, and there were definitely weaker tracks (personally I preferred the book-ends rather than the books), but this deserves a decent rating. Not quite going to scrape a 5, but respectable 4.

So good, haven’t listened to that album through in a long time

4 out of 5. While never being the biggest Pink Floyd fan this album is my favorite of theirs.

Still good!

wish you were here album by pink floyd was beautiful in my opinion another old gen banger at first i thought it was just going to be music no singing at all but there was singing although it was really little singing i still really enjoyed this as the music showed feelings and emotions it was really calming listening to these five pieces the only downside for me is it is too long like 13 mins 12 mins 7 mins is little too long me even 5 is bit long but the music is more improtant overall rating 4/5 only reason its not higher is the pieces are too long for my likingv

Pink Floyd Wish you were here: Very brilliantly produced, consistent all over and never one boring moment Shine on you crazy diamond(Pt1-5): 5 Incredible production, talking about Syd Barrett an old member, and how losing him a tragedy, very emotional flows into the next song Welcome to the machine: 4.6 Mechanical sounding on purpose, song is about how music industry controls artists and critiques it. Very trippy Have a cigar: 4.25 Funky riff, critiquing music execs again, saying how they don't understand the band Wish you were here: 4.4 Emotional, brilliant I just don't enjoy acoustic guitar songs as much as prog rock. Shine on you crazy diamond pts 6-9: 4.7. A continuation of the first track, a farewell. Avg 4.59/5 barely missing a 5/5 == 4.5/5 Since on this app, there are no .5 increments I have to score a 4/5 which doesn't reflect my rating accurately.

This is the first Pink Floyd album that I have ever completely listened to and it comes with a weight of expectation. How does one of the most iconic albums from one rock's biggest bands compare to some of the other fodder on the list? Pretty favourably really. It's a lot more electronic than I expected, making it sound a lot more current than it's 50 years. Favourite tracks were the title track and the sprawling Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Sure, it's indulgent and not all of it works - not sure about the squealing guitars - but this isn't ever just going to be background music and every element of each part has been carefully constructed. Not quite as keen on the record company put downs in the musical sense although lyrically they are spot on. An interesting first exposure, and i look forward to hearing more. 4 stars.

Bit too self-involved, obviously, but musically fascinating and invigorating.

Designed to be listened to as an album, really well crafted soundscapes and a nice call-back to Wish You Were Here at the end. Not one you can particularly bang on for a quick listen but I'd say its worth the time investment.

Not that familiar with this album but thought it was really good

Very well orchestrated. Didn't change my life, but quite good.

Have not really listened to much Pink Floyd as had previously dismissed as wanky toss when i was in my punk phase and never really revisited this opinion. Roll forward 30 years or so and its much more up street and very much enjoyed large parts of the album - unfortunately there are some wanky bits like the sax solo - but still happy to give it a solid 4.

A big and heavy slow-burn album, solid and immersive for as long as it lasts, maybe not as much a fresh revolution as Dark Side of the Moon, but it's got a lot to offer

Pink Floyd is always a nice treats. Is this album a little overhyped? Maybe, but it’s still nicely done. The intro song is quite long, so is the closing song. Favorite song: Wish You Were Here

Their ninth album. Prog / Psychedelic Rock. For me this is a case of two things being true. On the one hand this is a masterful and seminal album. On the other it is also a self indulgent wankfest. These guys would sit in a studio enjoying the smell of their farts. Seminal Fart Rock !

Nice album, classic pink floyd

I understand the genius of this album, even though it doesn't resonate with me as much. Wish You Were Here might be one of the greatest songs ever recorded though. 4.5/5

78.4/100

YAYYY JOJO REFERENCE!!! I don't think I've ever actually listened to Pink Floyd before, but I really liked their sound. It was not what I was expecting, but definetely in a good way, I can't wait to check out some more of their music.

An old friend...

This was another good album, after I was expecting more of the same from Pink Floyd really (if you take out the fucking awful Piper At The Gates of Dawn album). The opening take/version of Shine On was really good, the closing one was not so good. The other 3 tracks were also pretty good. The best Pink Floyd album I'd had on this list.

Not bad, 7/10

Ridiculously overhyped but still good.

gran album

ça fait réfléchir...

Great album the songs alone aren't as good as together and sometimes it can be a bit monotone but very chill.

This one is an all-time classic. This is an album that deserves to be listened to without distraction, which makes this a more challenging album than Dark Side of the Moon. Ultimately, those who listen well will experience a well designed storyline of isolation, desperation, and hope.

The infamous Pink Floyd, where a 17 minute track would be considered short. Really enjoyable. I love prog rock, and that 70s synth sound is one of my favorites. Very whimsical sounding.

super good stuff, basically shine on you crazy diamond the album, kinda gimmicky transitions between tracks didn't really like it

I was introduced to this album after I hear Radiohead feat. Sparklehorse's cover of "Wish you were here" in university. I can understand why it's a classic, but in all honesty (and with some regret), I do prefer the cover version...

Really good stuff. Heard the title track before. The last song was meh. Short album too. But the first three songs are great.

I knew it

I love the title track. It's up there with my favourite songs. The rest was good but not quite at the same level.

Tällä levyllä on legendaarisia PF biisejä. Hyvä levy. Kuuntelin Deluxe version bonus-biiseillä.

funky and good vibes

Really love this album. Only reason I don’t give it a 5 is due to how long some of the intros and outros are in the songs. I don’t need a full minute of random noises. But still love Pink Floyd overall.

Love the psychedelic style of pink Floyd. Very recognizable, yet soothing. Love some psychedelic rock

So yeah, the music is exceptional. It is epic and grand, amazingly mixed, and all that comes with a great record. But 26 of the 43 minutes is 2 of 5 songs. There are really only 3 approachable songs on the entire thing, and of course those are awesome. Minute for minute it's incredible, but song for song it doesn't offer a whole lot that I'm interested in revisiting. Still real good though. 3.8/5

mixing is insane!! everything is kind of just washing over me rn. This would be really good high i think.

Nice instrumentals, very long songs but great calm vibe.

Classic great album

This is one that makes me want quarter or half stars. Great album but I don't really want to give it a 5. "Have a Cigar" and "Wish You Were Here" are excellent. The rest of the album is a great listen, but it isn't something that blows me away or anything. The latter parts of "Shine On" are particularly good, but probably not quite enough to warrant a 5 in this rating system.

The best pink Floyd album.

A proper album rather than some songs recorded at the same time.
