Solid album. The songwriting is a little weak on side b
Aí sim ele começa a "fazer sentido".
great! wonderful, even! if you ever get the chance to listen to this record while in bed on the verge of sleep until you are violently brought back to consciousness by david gilmour groaning 'welcome to the machineeeeeee' in your ear i would highly recommend!
Virkelig også en god plade! Måske ikke helt lige så god som The Wall / Dark Side of The Moon , men forfriskende kort.
A classic but the concept style makes it hard to listen to on repeat.
One of the greatest classic rock albums of all time, but that's standard for Pink Floyd
Bit lengthy
I know that it is considered a masterpiece and I can enjoy how well-made and complex it is. But it's just not my specific vibe right now.
quite good so far
Very good. Another band that was omnipresent when I was younger, but didn’t charm me enough to seek out any of their stuff to buy. Although in high school some friends of mine who were into Pink Floyd had me tag along with them to a concert during their tour for The Division Bell. That was a great show.
Absolute masterpiece. The production and instrumentation were awesome and provided listeners with a very mesmerizing and relaxing experience. "Wish You Were Here" is an all-time classic and "Welcome to the Machine" and "Have a Cigar" were perfect as well. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" parts 1-9 were great, but just a little too long and slow for my liking.
This was a time machine. 15 years old, bang into Pink Floyd and playing WYWH (the song) on guitar. I expected it to be worse in retrospect than it actually was. Shine on was really emotional, which is something The Floyd often lack, especially when you know that it's for Syd, and hear the (presumably apocryphal) story of him turning up during recording. And the title track remains an unqualified masterpiece. The emotion in the lyrics, the simplicity of the guitar, the very un-Floyd like lack of a seventeen minute outro, it's all there. It loses a bit for Have a Cigar and Welcome to the Machines being a little too proggy for my tastes, but overall, a very enjoyable listen.
This album goes from atmospheric to semi-theatrical in the longest, but hard-hitting way I've ever heard. I just listened to this album for the umpteenth time, but this hits different. After hearing the lyrics during what seems to be a scary burnout, it didn't cure me, but it's like talking to someone that understands you; nearly brought me to tears. Anyway, driving more towards modern synthesizers rather than pure rock like in their other albums, still in that experimental phase, though in here, it's more realized, as it's less a synth demo and more of an example of what happens when you combine soft rock/folk/easy listening with otherworldly sounds that come with the synths.
Easily some of my favorite type of beats to zone out too and just feel the every instrument. I know it’s the obvious choice but the dark side of the moon beats this album. My favorite songs on this album is have a cigar and wish you were here
I like a lot of Pink Floyd records. This is one of the better ones, but in the interest of not ranking several of them with five stars, I'll give it four.
The music is good, pleasant to listen to, but probably not in heavy rotation.
an absolute icon with some incredible songs but it's not exactly my thing
Moody journey with minimal lyrics. Good use of a variety of instruments that made the album interesting.
I really love Pink Floyd's instrumentals, so I really enjoy Shine On You Crazy Diamond, all parts of it. There's nothing that really stands out for me in the album, but it's so good from top to bottom. Really good listening.
Need to listen to more of it but it was actually pretty good.
I love this album, I don’t even really need to listen to this one. wish you were here was one of the first songs I learned on guitar as a teenager and even in my 30s it’s probably one of my favorite tunes to belt on an acoustic given the right opportunity. SYCD is fantastic. This thing probably blew the socks off people when it was released.
Good stuff
Floyd!
Great sound and atmosphere. Probably need more knowledge of the band to be moved by the Syd Barrett tribute element of it but I was still kinda moved. Good album. Best song: Wish You Were Here
moet goed zijn, was goed, geen verassingen
This is a singular masterpiece by one of the best and most unique musical acts in the last 50 years. Can you think of any great musician/group that sounded like Pink Floyd? I can't either. They are their own genre.
One of the most badass album covers of all time. It's been awhile since I've listened to the whole album, or any Pink Floyd album, in full. The instrumentals on the first track are tight. Great guitar playing by Gilmore. The synth work is very moody and sets a somber tone for the rest of the album. Welcome to the Machine is not my favorite... Have a Cigar is definitely a Rogers Waters song. Motifs of corporate greed, I'm sure they heard a lot of the things he sings about after the success of Dark Side of the Moon. The guitar tone is insane. Wish You Were Here is one of the best Pink Floyd Songs. Just an overall great tune. After listening to the whole thing, it's probably my fourth favorite Pink Floyd album. It is important in their discography though. Marks a change into the concept albums that came after it. The run from Dark Side of the Moon to The Wall is probably the strongest run of albums ever.
My favorite of their albums.
Stellar, it’s an experience to listen to it. Every song could be stand alone.
And I quote 'Pink Floyd be like "we live in a society." - 10 minute guitar solo.'
Very "Proggy" and pretentious, but a saxophone solo is always a win!
4.3 A great album, just not one of my personal PF faves. Fave songs: Shine on 1-9, wish you were here
540 albums is a long time to wait for some Pink Floyd. Almost as long as the wait for the first track to get going… But to be fair, the emotional payoff when the vocals come in is worth it. I found Welcome To The Machine a bit heavy-handed in its message and it doesn’t really go anywhere, but Have a Cigar does a much better job at tackling a similar subject matter, and is relatively concise and accessible by Pink Floyd standards too. The title track is great, no complaints there. All in all I don’t agree that the album is GOAT material, but I do ‘get’ why it’s in that bracket for some people. The ambition/scope of it has a kind of goaty quality, I think.
God dammit a prog masterpiece. Buckle up. 4.5/5
Really liked some of the guitar work! The singing is not my fave, and the experimental stuff doesn’t stand the test of time but some really really good tracks in there
Quite enjoyabke, very chill, recognised a lot of it. Proba ky won't return to it though.
Definitely a nice listen. The instrumentals are pretty awesome with tons of good solos from various instruments, including quite a bit of jazz influence which I enjoyed. I wasn’t mind blown like I wanted to be from this one though. 7/10
Good as usual.
An album that I can listen to repeatedly. That's why I look for in an album. 4.5
Still a good album on relisten
Artful and very tasteful but gets knocked down to a four because slow music makes me bored and impatient.
Love this album. Huge fan of Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts 1-5 so it's a fantastic way to start an album. Wish You Were Here is a classic but overall, a great album that brings back some good memories
Not my favorite Floyd album but I have really enjoyed this at different points in my life! It's kind of a perfect little album, love the backstory about Syd Barrett and the way the opener and closer just bookend this record so well. The songs in-between are absolute bangers! Wow I forgot how much I enjoyed this album
Psychedelic Rock masters. It's odd, and yet works.
la fórmula pink floyd, gilmour, la triste historia de syd barrett.
Not sure I've ever listened to this album all the way through. Obviously I knew all the songs but didn't know the feel of listening the songs they way they were presented on the album. Great album.
Great fishing music.
Dur à évaluer une écoute ajeun de 5 tounes. La 1ere de 13 min et la dernière de 12 min. C'est rêveur, ça calme, y'a du soul. C'est pas venu me chercher au fond de me entrailles alors pas de 5.
Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts. 1-5 // Have A Cigar // Wish You Were Here 4/5
Confession part 2 Never listened to Pink Floyd First half gave, Nevada, New Mexico, desert 70s film with Orange hue editing. Second half gave a rich man’s house with shag carpet, wearing emerald colored suit. All That randomness to say, good composition to paint a good visual for me (which is what my brain goes for). Not what I would throw on to vibe personally, but it is a good vibe .
3 stars immediately for Wish you were here alone. It gets 4 stars as I don't mind the instrumental sound and welcome to the machine. I probably won't ever play it through again in it's entirety though so not a 5.
This would have been a 5/5 from me about 15-20 years ago.
Excellent, but you have to be in the right mood. which is monged.
4.5
Loved this album. It was mixed beautifully and full of synthesizers and sounds that were intriguing and enchanting. Will definitely add this to my collection of albums to play and zone out to.
Aboslutely incredible. From start to finish, this just felt like an jam session with the boys. the guitars were so smooth, and the mixing was just right. Loving this remaster.
Funny that Pink Floyd is a UK band, I honestly didn't realize that. It should have been apparent on some of the way they said certain lyrics, but reading this today kind of shocked me. I'm happy anytime we get a Floyd album on here because I never listened to them growing up but knew of their power. This was another really great album. Some long tracks, seemed like they were having fun jamming out. I wouldn't call it my favorite Floyd album but it's a great one.
Really, really dig this one. In the same vein as Dark Side of the Moon, at least sonically. Doesn't seem as concept-heavy perhaps, but still very strong. Love the long, meandering prog tracks. Out of five, I'm saving four: the one not making the cut is "Have a Cigar," which is the shortest track but still pretty enjoyable. It feels weird to have only really listened to Pink Floyd now through this project, because I really dig their style. Bravo, gentlemen. This is one I could definitely see growing to a five star with more time and listens. Favorite tracks: Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, Welcome to the Machine. Album art: A classic, maybe not as iconic as DSOTM, but deserves a place in the pantheon. Man shaking hands with a man on fire, on a studio backlot. The framing looks strikingly modern, and I just love the little portion of the border that's burned away for asymmetry. Amazing. Metro Boomin essentially remixed this cover for "Heroes & Villains," I don't blame him. This one's a doozy. 4.5/5
First time listening to Pink Floyd and it was very relaxing, the album is a good listen, Have a Cigar and Wish You Were Here were my favourite songs.
track 1- one of the best intro’s ive ever heard, mind blowing song track 2- very interesting parts, song almost moves into different genre’s at times. so before its time track 3- some brilliant guitars and just all around good track 4- no words needed track 5- not actually heard this, v good. really fucking good. too high to write more
groovy. nice background music
This album is only 40 minutes long but it feels much longer. There are only five songs but like three of them are over 10 minutes long.I don’t understand how people can listen to shine of you crazy Diamond. It’s too long and most of it is kinda boring guitar noodling.BUT wish you were here is a great song with a top tier solo so I’m giving this album a 4.
Certaines pièces sont des chefs-d'œuvre. J'aime bien l'aspect exploratoire, même si parfois mon attention se détourne du résultat.
8,5/10
It's indulgent, but the good kind, like a rich chocolate cake.
Tough not to feel a certain way listening to the first 10 mins of this album. A long track, but I’m here for it. Might be an unpopular opinion, but Wish You Were Here doesn’t really do much for me. Shine On and Have a Cigar though. Two of their best. Almost a 5 for this one. But need to keep those in the reserve.
Enjoyed listening to this. These guys are super cinematic; it's part of their mystique. Some really crazy effects and synth. Welcome to the Machine is overall a good song but it really goes to some unpredictable places. Have a Cigar is a really fucking cool song and I haven't heard it as much as some of the other tracks by this band. Listened to the album a couple of times and will revisit
Bill classic
At some point I thought this was Pink Floyd’s best album. Listening to it now I’m not as hot on it compared to their other works. There’s just something I find missing in it. But that’s not to decry this album too much. I still enjoy revisiting it
It is quite impressive the depth that Pink Floyd manage to achieve within this album. The solo melodic lines are pretty much the definition of epic. I do question some of the lyrics - they seem rather banal and trite, but perhaps I am missing the point of them. Some times though, when the context of the album is understood, they are more pertinent and even witty e.g. 'Oh by why the way which one's pink'. What an amazing tribute - an album to their ex-band member. They manage to write long songs that maintain the interest throughout - never are you stuck in exposure to pointless repetitions for the sake of it - the solo lines and the accompanying instrumentation have you hanging on their every note. Very good stuff.
Best song ever. Though I find Shine a bit self-indulgent.
4.5
quite nice love it
Better than expected. For some reason Ive always felt Pink Floyd was tedious but this was great!
Very nice
A caterpillar eating a hearty casserole of shit and peas. This is the death of innocence and the birth of Margaret The Fucklord, ruler of the nipple peasants. All Hail her.
Probably one of Pink Floyd's better albums... but for me personally, I was never that hooked on their music, even though many peops rave about them. Opening track.... sooooooooo long.... a bit of a trademark of the group, with the shortest track being 5 mins, and it did sound very Dire Staits Money For Nothing. That said, I enjoyed this album, despite other stuff they've done which I find tedious.
Good album
3.5
Pink Floyd at it's best....I'd give it a 5, but gotta make room for Dark Side of the Moon....
Today I got my third helping of Pink Floyd, this time with the album Wish You Were Here. This is Floyd's ninth studio album, and deals with themes of mental health, depression, and alienation, while also criticising the music industry (notably: Welcome to the Machine). Shine on You Crazy Diamond is based on former member Syd Barrett, who had to leave the band due to deteriorating mental health issues. Have a Cigar is a rockin' tune sung by Roy Harper which is located smack in the middle of this melancholic masterpiece. It provides the shot in the arm that this record needs at just the right moment! Wish You Were Here is an absolutely beautiful song! I believe this album gets some flak from critics, and listeners alike because it is compared to the stellar masterpiece that Pink Floyd released directly prior to this album, "Dark Side of the Moon". Anything would pale in comparison to that massive classic! Overall, because of the melancholic mood of this record, it is not my favourite of Pink Floyd's records, but it still deserves its time on the podium for all that it did for the prog rock genre as well as music as a whole. Favourite songs: Wish You Were Here, Have a Cigar, Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-9) Least favourite songs: If forced to pick, Welcome to the Machine 4/5
This things only 45 minutes and 5 songs, two of those being 15 minute guitar solos so there legit no room for error. I don’t usually like ridiculously long guitar solos but these ones are real emotional and the couple song they wedge between em are so solid so the structure of the album is the most standout thing but it’s really interesting and it works
What can you say, it's a classic. Floyd got the most out of 70's studio tech by far. They certainly had vision.
So uh. I am a little underwhelmed. It's not bad by any means, but I wasn't super emotionally affected by anything. Maybe I expect too much from certain groups after hearing all the hype. I hear "Wish You Were Here" a lot on classic rock radio so I'm a little sick of it - sorry! Still, I really dug the guitar work on Shine On You Crazy Diamonds (Pts. 1-5), and Have a Cigar was pretty neat as well! It wasn't super duper amazing to me, but maybe it just needs another listen. Definitely a solid album everyone indeed must hear at least once, though.
Zadnji pravo dobar floyd album ujedno i jebeno precijenjen ko i dark side.
Great Album! Never been big on some Pink Floyd Vocals, but their music is *Chefs Kiss*.
When I was younger I thought this was the best Floyd album, but now I think I can admit that Dark Side Of The Moon is better. Even so, it's about as good as Pink Floyd is ever going to get. Moody, maudlin, angry at the world, but still compelling.
Pink Floyd at their best
Worth it for shine on you crazy diamond alone
Alright, folks, buckle up, because we're about to take a journey into the world of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. I can confidently say that this album is a masterpiece that deserves a place in any music lover's collection. This album is a true work of art that showcases Pink Floyd's signature sound and musical genius. One of the standout tracks on this album is "Welcome To The Machine." This haunting and mesmerizing song takes the listener on a journey through the darker side of the music industry. From the pulsing synthesizers to the haunting vocals, "Welcome To The Machine" is a powerful commentary on the dehumanizing effects of fame and success with a sound that will make you feel like you're on a wild acid trip. But don't worry - it's a fun ride. But "Welcome To The Machine" is just one piece of the puzzle that makes up Wish You Were Here. The album as a whole is a stunning example of Pink Floyd's ability to create complex and layered compositions that take the listener on an emotional journey. From the soaring guitar solos of the epic "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" to the melancholic beauty of the title track which is a masterpiece that will transport you to another dimension, Wish You Were Here is a true masterpiece that continues to captivate audiences to this day. Just make sure you have some snacks on hand, because this journey is going to take a while. This album is a must-listen for any fan of progressive rock or music in general, so if you're ready to take a break from your boring, mundane existence and explore the depths of your mind with some killer tunes, then the Wish You Were Here is the album for you. Just be warned, you might not come back the same person.
Excellent, but short album.
A good album, but not great.
After more than 500 albums, many psychedelic and experimental music among them, and one early Pink Floyd album, I was expecting to enjoy it less, mainly because of possible repetitiveness. However, it's indeed a great album despite any previous concept.
Some absolute choons
Nice chill vibes for a Friday morning
thought this was going to be rinse boomer shit but it was actually good
Spacy, kinda bluesy? Some extended instrumentals, but never felt too rambly
Great album, probably one of my favourite Pink Floyd albums
Joda, ganske digg dette.
pretty good! not what i expected
Ohhhhh Michael van Gerwen
I wish I could give this album 5 stars. "Wish You Were Here" & "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" are two of my all-time favorite Pink Floyd songs. However, "Have A Cigar" is one of my all-time least favorite Pink Floyd songs. I'm indifferent to "Welcome To The Machine." 4/5: A flawed masterpiece.
A good pink floyd outing, not my favourite of theirs.
the jury is still out on pink floyd for me. part of me wants to say over rated but i did enjoy this listen!
3.5
I really believe this is a work of art, or at least it sounds that way. Every single factor of the music feels like it was placed with intense care and thought. Maybe that’s not what was happening in the studio during the recording, but that’s what the end product was. However, I personally don’t think I can listen to this casually. I would need to be in a specific mood to listen to any of the songs, and nevertheless, I would need to have a full listen through of the album to satiate that mood. Still, this album is excellent and overall a great time. Favorite track: Wish You Were Here
While not my favorite Pink Floyd album, it’s a strong one
Probably my favourite Floyd album. Love how focused and cohesive the album is to give a complete experience.
Good. Very different than other Pink Floyd albums that I have listened to.
I can see how this album has influenced many other artists.
I really dig it
Great
Across the Universe movie vibes. Shine On's length was intimidating but masterfully executed to feel full and complete without dragging on or being repetitive. The lyrics also felt organic to the song and not like a tacked on after thought. Flutes and Saxophones always appreciated. Didn't realize I knew Wish You Were Here. The album feels like an ethereal LSD trip in Parts.
I truly think Pink Floyd get overhyped by people who make one band their whole personality (or was that just people I met? 🤔). But I still quite like them tbh, this album feels like rock at it's core, but done in a novel way. One of the top 5 Pink Floyd albums. Not a 5 for me in the end. Entertaining and interesting album that I'll revisit sometime though. Missing that true spark of connection for me though.
I give the album a high rating only because of the "Wish You Were Here" and @"Have a Cigar"
I was pretty sure I knew every song on this album – well, there are only five. I hadn’t ever listened to it start to finish though. I knew it was a concept album - partly un homage to Syd Barrett and was fully on board with it. I hadn’t ever realised ‘Shine on you crazy Diamond’ had 900 parts to it but I was fully committed and very into it until the last ‘song’ or the last 712 parts of Crazy Diamond. That’s when my interest began to wane, and even though I appreciate what a clever and well-crafted album it is, my concentration dipped. I could’ve done with track number five being a completely different song. I do think it was very poignant and clever without being smug. A solid experience and much as I might have tuned out towards the end I do appreciate PF a lot but in smaller doses.
Love the band, love the album.
I knew every note of this album in high school. I never reach for it anymore. That's how I feel about most of Floyd's catalog, save for Piper. Not that I don't like them, but I just OD'd on it. I find it hard rating these classic rock albums. The intro to Shine On has always dragged on too long, IMO, and I say this as someone for whom Gilmour is his favorite guitarist. But there's too much keyboard noodling for my tastes. But when Roger starts singing, it's all good. The intro to Welcome to the Machine is great, though. Menacing. Such a weird song, too. Subtle time changes. The music sounds very Doctor Who. In a good way. Have a Cigar: Another killer into. I dig songs that are immediately recognizable. Title track: I mean, what can you say about it, other than it's great. The second helping of Shine On is great, too. I dig the See Emily Play quote at the end. Well, I enjoyed that. The musicianship and songwriting and production are all aces. Still, it feels very high school to me. I wonder how soon I'll feel like listening to it again. I know PF struggled creatively in the wake of Dark Side, having achieved everything they ever set out to do. There was a lot of "OK, now what?" But they pulled through with an album that's still speaking to millions of people all these years later. Impressive.
So I listened to Wish You Were Here twice, because it appeals more to me than most Pink Floyd stuff, but not throughout and I wanted to give it a chance to win me over. It pretty much did, mostly because of the bookend tracks which are stellar, the title track works well too though as a simple easy rock song. The Crazy Diamond journey is obviously proggy but not in a way I disliked for a change. This is really good 4/5 stuff.
Not quite as good as The Wall, or Dark Side of The Moon (certainly in terms of storytelling), but still very very good. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is the best bit of proper prog (i.e. long songs with lots of instrumental) that they've done (and possibly that anyone has done?), the title track is superb, and there's some really great caustic lyrics about the music industry in particular (by the way, which one's Pink?). It's an incredible soundscape with a few bits that make you really listen - DSOTM and The Wall don't really have those lulls, so that's why this only gets a 4 rather than a 5, but it's very very close.
I bought a bootleg tape of Pink Floyd's Delicate Sound of Thunder at a flea market in Myrtle Beach back in 1988. I didn't know a lot of Pink Floyd - mostly things from The Wall. But that first track, Shine on You Crazy Diamond, is pretty fucking amazing. And I gauge that mainly by two criteria- 1) I really love it and 2) it's almost 12 minutes long. This one opens with a lesser version of 'Shine' - it feels lethargic compared to the live version. That said, it's hard to deny the chops of these guys. They aren't playing in a standard songwriting sandbox and yet this is frequently engaging. Pretty good stuff.
I’ve yet to go through a Pink Floyd phase in my life and I’m guessing that at this point I never will. As such, I am not overly exposed to this album and really liked it. Definitely meanders a tad, but the middle is strong and the title track never fails to make me wish I could sing. Anybody remember when Limp Bizkit and the Goo Goo Dolls covered it for the televised concert after 9/11?? Never forget.
Good one.
I had never heard this album front to back, and I found it to be incredibly experimental, even for Pink Floyd. "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" is a masterwork in synth, as is the chilling "Welcome to the Machine". "Wish You Were Here" strips things down a bit more and is almost a ballad. It's wild that these two iconic songs were never singles from this album. The songs both take on new life when heard in the context of the entire album, though. Honestly, the entire album evokes interesting vibes. It's haunting, surreal, melancholy, and strange. I'm not sure if I LOVED it, but it really intrigued me, and has stuck with me and I can't get it out of my head. To me, that's worth something.
It's pink flyod at their pinkiest floydiest. Lots of interesting ideas and songs, but stretched out too far. Brilliant, but also over indulgent.
Everyone knows who Pink Floyd is, but I never really listened to them prior to checking out this album. For some reason, the idea of their music (paradoxically ill-defined in my head) didn't appeal to me. How nice it was, then, to enjoy this collection. While I doubt I could do so directly and actively – the songs are somewhat slow-paced – the musicality is absolutely there. Great for indirect listening, I feel.
There's so much time and space on this album. Nothing is rushed. The songs and instruments are given room to breathe. It takes nine minutes before the first vocals drop. Yet you don't feel that you are left hanging around waiting for them. When they finally do arrive, "Remember when you were young?" is a great album opener. The saxophone break on Shine On achieves almost the impossible of adding some soul to Pink Floyd. Welcome to the Machine and Have a Cigar lag slightly. A four star album for three outstanding tracks.
Good not my fav Pink Floyd album but very good
One of the all time greats. I have been listening to this album for as long as I can remember and it still hits me in the same intense way every time. A most beautiful guy punch.
Pretty cool.
pink floyd - wish you were here (1975) notes - pink floyd is another band who will have multiple spots on this list - an iconic album - the songs on here really take their time to build and make sure that they hit extra hard fav song - wish you were here - this song is up there with roundabout in the 10/10 songs category - really the only song here that i think works just as well without the context of the album lest fav - shine on you crazy diamond pt 1-5 - felt like it went on too long, not as interesting as pt 6-9 - but it works as the opener for this album, sets the tone not my favourite album from pink floyd but still very good 4/5
I enjoyed this more that I thought I was going to. I've been told Pink Floyd is just noise, but it was enjoyable noise. My favourite song was Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5).
Roger Waters is heartwarming.
Solid album
Unique and cool to have in the background. Makes you think you're on a journey
Interesting ebbs and flows. I wouldn't call it iconic Pink Floyd, but it does encapsulate their experimental nature. Not for casual listening.
Fricken huge sax but ultimately not my favourite of their back catalogue
Both spacious and focused. I own this which says a lot considering I am not a Floyd fan.
Well, it's Pink Fucking Floyd! No less than 4 stars. Annoying choice of mine on which YouTube purveyor I choose today... Let's see how I feel Monday
It's a great listen, absorbing and intriguing with real moments where the soundscape soars and carries you along with it. Occasionally there is a sense with Pink Floyd's other, let's say 'busier' albums, that the music is overshadowed by the production but with this they complement the other perfectly. There are flashes here and there of haunting solos and melancholy melodies and this helps the album's cohesion. You feel they have something to say and an idea of how to say it. I suspect this one may grow even more on me with repeated listens. Really very good.
Prachtig, maar dit luister je dan maar 1x in de 5 jaar ofzo.
Pink Floyd stands by themselves with nearly every album they have. Their take on experimentalism in music as well as their epic-saga style of writing and composition is a major point of their success where for others that tried this, failed to really stick the landing. The band manages to tell a complete story but keep the music interesting without the overbearing repetitiveness that experimentalists tried to do. Where "The Wall" has a prolonged theme with political commentaries, or where "Dark Side of the Moon" has a spatial element, this album tends to feel a bit more personal as each song title is a platitude to the listener. In a way, we are being sung either to or towards. The slow disco-esque "Have a Cigar" starts with a familiarizing hook and melody, and then takes a major turn into something else. The band is satirizing their success, grappling with whether or not they are the makers of their own success, or if they are just a product of The Machine. As mentioned, the album feels personal and it is good for doing so.
I used to listen to Pink Floyd a lot as an angsty teen. This is a good album.
solid PF, but not in the leagues of dark side or the wall
Musik zum ... Entspannen / Genießen
Estuvo bn aunque muy largo para mi gusto.
This album really brings into conflict all of the things that I like and hate about Pink Floyd. There are some great songs on here, especially Have a Cigar and Wish You Were Here. The songs are musically creative, well-executed, and have interesting lyrics. That's what I like about Pink Floyd. Then there's the bad Pink Floyd. The one that disappears into interminable jams for half of the goddamn album. Shine on You Crazy Diamond could be a good song if it wasn't so unstructured for most of it. Pink Floyd has made several long songs that I like (like anything off of Animals), but on this album it just feels like filler. This album is great when it's good and deeply frustrating when it's not. I think overall the good outweighs the bad on this one, but it's close, and that's why I don't listen to this one often 4/5
One of the greats.
I had listened to it once before. I like it, but not as much as DSOTM and The Wall.
Absolute classic
Another classic of its time.
Shine on you crazy diamond er stórkostlegt lag. Stórkostlegt. Restin er allt í lagi.
Prekrasno.
Jedan od boljih floydovih, najblizi petici, not tho
A great album. This was my second time listening through it and even though I like dark side a bit more, it still is a classic for a good reason. I love the production and the songs, they give you these haunting vibes. Not much else to say, one of Pink Floyds best
Not usually my thing but not much wrong here
The record is only 43 minutes long but feels twice as long, it drags at moments but actually has a lot of interesting moments and also, has shush you were here, I like it, but will listen to it in full only a couple of times at most before I die
i enjoyed thisssss
*thumbs up*
An album that sold less than the others but offered, a incredible good production sound and solos. I love that album. (8/10) FT: Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Forced to listen to this, I really liked it more than I thought I would. Been an ardent opponent of any Pink Floyd, but really connected with that album artwork. Would listen to this again for sure. Wish you were here...
The middle of this album is so terrific, but it just takes too long to get there, and equally too long to get out of it. "Have a Cigar" and "Wish You Were Here" deserve a tighter album. Even "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" has a fantastic core, but it gets lost in the additional meandering parts that don't even come across as a long evolving jam, but rather separate pieces that start and stop, fade in and out. But when Pink Floyd is good, they're really great.
Never have given this one a full listen in one sitting. Flows really nicely as almost a continuous single song. Definitely feels like a tribute album to Syd. More of the mid 70s sounds creeping in that I don’t like as much as the earlier albums but that gets forgotten as you immerse into the songs.
"Have A Cigar" prevents me from giving this 5 stars.
legendarisk men ku være bedre
Klassiker, 70’er rock, stemningsfyldt, nostalgisk
One of the best bands in the rock history, and great album.
Banger of an album.
Definitely creative and sounded good, but it was a little too hippie for me. You can tell they were on LSD when they made it, or made it for people on LSD.
this is the only pink floyd album i like. shiny on you crazy diamond uh, is a bit excessive at times. but wish you were here is just such a great fucking song.
Best Song: Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Doesn't matter how long it is, this track feels absolutely ethereal. Completely in outer space. Worst Song: Isn't really a worst song here. Everything flows into everything else, and it all works. Overall: This album just feels so expansive. Every note has so much space. I think part of it is the patience with which everything is delivered, but part also comes from the way its mixed, as though the band is actually far away from the microphone, floating in space, and the microphone is just drifting around them.
Was prepared to dislike it, ended up enjoying it. I liked the use of synths and thought I could hear a number of sounds that probably ended up influencing a lot of bands I like.
This was really good. Didn’t expect to enjoy it - I think I expected more self-indulgent wank
3/3/22 Once again I am impressed with Pink Floyd for this composition. The album as a whole is beautiful and expressive. The guitar is amazing as usual. Each song flows and even without a ton of lyrics, a story is told. I really enjoyed the album, but I was slightly less captivated by this than I was The Wall. Would give a 4.5 if I could! Favorite song: Shine on you crazy diamond part 1
yeah nice.
Inextricably linked to memories and sometimes able to reduce me to tears. Consequently has to be 4 or 5*
Very good.
Not much to add here. It's a very good album.
I loved this album when I was younger - Shine on You Crazy Diamond is one of those rare epics that actually evolves and keeps your interest. Have a Cigar is that Roger Waters bitterness that I was there for and Wish You Were Here is gorgeous. In hindsight, the album feels slight compared to the Waters and Barrett peaks, but better than any of the Gilmour era!!! Great, not perfect.
Textural and spacious. A slow build at points but the full body of the guitars, drums and vocal harmonies is a tasty combination. Surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
It was a good album and I think listen to the whole thing instead of just standalone songs really helps the enjoyment.
Гипнотический микс рока, электроники и попа. Опережал время, но уже устарел
Great album this is great in the background and i could see myself leaving this on repeat all day. Less bop, more art.
Engaging and exiting album! Wish you were here is one of the most beautiful songs in history.
Damn I finally understand why all the 40 yr old white men unnecessarily harass 20yr old girls for wearing band t shirts. Put some respect on Floyd’s name! But also chill, they’re fantastic, this was a dope album, but chill. For this reason, in principle, it is a 4.
Mooi album. Niet het Floyd-topalbum. Beetje veel synthesizer…
Not my favorite by Pink Floyd but certainly a great record in it's own right.
Absolutely psychedelic
Listened on the bus on way back from Haifa to Tel Aviv.
But I am
I'll never be q Floyd fan but I can definitely respect this. And it does have my favorite song in theirs.
Great!
I really enjoyed the album. the music was incredible and i felt every part of it. it had an edge to it that i loved.
Classic
A nice album but general lack of variation
I liked this one. More so than The Wall. Probably an unpopular opinion.
The title track is a fantastic rock song. The rest of the album isn't really my speed.
Grew up on this album.
no puedo ser imparcial, es uno de mis diacos preferidos y de los pocos que tengo en vinilo. En cuanto a lo musical, continua el legado de dark side... siendo mas experimental
a beautiful creation indeed
It’d be better if every single song on here wasn’t overplayed by every classic rock radio station everywhere.
I like Pink Floyd but my exposure has actually been very shallow. Dark Side, Meddle, The Wall and Piper in decreasing order of frequency, and I only generally listened to the first two in recent decades. Long ago I had a cheap compilation cassette that include what I learned yesterday was a criminally edited version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and Wish You Were Here, both of which I liked a lot. This is a worthy successor of Dark Side, I think, and on a similar level.
Meglepően sokszínű, egyáltalán nem unalmas. Több stílusra, pl jazz és más előadókra (Queen) is emlékeztetett helyenként. Kevés volt benne a szöveg, ami nem hátrány.
4.21 Solemn. Great studio effects. Great instrumentals. Overall good.
I got pretty lucky for album #1. I'm quite familiar with this album but in all honesty I probably haven't played it in full for a couple of years now. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is still a great song. Few bands could play ten minute plus songs that actually hold my attention like Pink Floyd. The title track is a bona-fide classic rock staple for a reason. It's hard not to find yourself singing along. The only problem I have with this album is Welcome To The Machine. It's not terrible, but it's easily my least favorite on the album. I know a lot of other Floyd fans like it but it remains just "okay" in my book. Overall it's a very solid album. It's probably in my top 5 of the band, and I love me some Pink Floyd.
Nice jamz
great, but not dark side of the moon great
Could defo listen again, although the title track is perhaps a little overrated
Out of body
If I had to describe this album in one word, I'd say STUNNING. I'm not terribly well experienced in Pink Floyd or prog rock generally, but I was floored at how these songs patiently and steadily develop into such striking climaxes. It's definitely not an album of instant gratification, but if you're willing to be patient, the gradual builds of tension and anticipation are so worth it. I love the concept of the album, being largely dedicated to the band's troubled former member Syd Barrett. Shine on You Crazy diamond and Wish You Were Here are touching tributes to their friend that also happen to be the most gorgeous songs on the album. This album is so incredibly deliberate. Nothing sounds easy. Unknown sounds that don't come from any identifiable instrument mix perfectly with a wide variety of instruments, from organ to saxophone to David Gilmour's masterful guitar work. All in all, this album was a pleasure to listen to and I'll surely revisit it often. My only complaint is that due to my somewhat ADHD nature, I know there will be many times I'm too impatient to sit through the entirety of some of these tracks. 8/10 subjective enjoyment rating for me.
The build up on this album (especially in SOYCD) is absolutely insane. Feels like a I'm entering another dimension. But it's a Pink Floyd album so I couldn't have expected anything less. The abrasive sounds on this record really pull you in and define the world that this record lives in. The transitions between songs are also excellent. As far as the concept goes, I had to do a bit of research to understand it. I appreciate the album more now than before I knew it was about one of the band members. I love how the album tells a story as well as you go deeper and deeper into the record. While the album is sonically cohesive and interesting during the instrumental breakdowns, at times it does feel rudimentary especially during the vocal sections. Exceptions however are found in SOYCD and "Welcome to the Machine". I am mixed on the conclusion to this record. I really love how it finishes off where it started, but the second part of SOYCD is not as memorable as the first. I am not a fan of "Have a Cigar". This is the most repetitive song on the record for me. The sound is uninteresting to me as well. Favorite track on the album is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pts 1-5". The build up on this track is really the selling point. I especially love the rhythm change on the backend of this record, and this record overall sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Rock progresivo.
Very relaxing and euphoric. Spacey vibes, made me feel like I was ascending into a greater beyond. A good album to fall asleep to or study to
Kappaleista jatkoon erityisesti hitit Shine On You Crazy Diamond ja Wish You Were Here
Ich weiß ein großes Album- für mich aber nur aus der Distanz
Easy listen when you're all up in your head. Amazing album that is close to five stars, but Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall cast a great shadow.
I remembered Shine on you Crazy diamond had a long intro and was worried it might sound a little dated these days. Sort of like the long intro to Station to Station (made around the same time) kind of does sound dated. But the Shine on intro really didn’t sound dated and in fact sounds great. This is a testament to David Gilmour’s guitar playing. The first words in that tune are great with the vocal effects on the laughing at the end of the first phrase. I realize vocal effects are a lot better these days but it’s still good. I remember Dick Parry hitting it out of the park w his sax solo on Money but forgot that he also kicked it on Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Wish you Were Here is a classic. I particularly like it since it’s a great song for a hack guitar player since the opening riffs are easy to figure out and everyone will recognize them and know the song before the words start. Have a Cigar is another classic. I never realized that an outsider sang it and the story behind that. Who knew ?
Full of classic songs, but the really long Shine On you Crazy Diamond is just too much for me.
Awesome album. Love the blues inspired guitar and the themes within the songs. An album steeped in ideas and creativity.
I loooove Pink Floyd. Thats all I can say about this album.
Like the relaxing songs, dont like the dissonant, anxiety inducing parts. Nice album, but not their greatest.
Dobry
yes, a classic. It's like the air I breathe, not exciting, but essential.
Fantastic album. I would give it 4.5 / 5 if possible.
I like "Wish You Were Here" and "Have a Cigar"
Classic album. This is an ideal album to play with good headphones.
4.5, but have to round down on this one. great album.
Completed. A little bit short, thought there would be more songs. But nonetheless, the album is good.
Legendary.
This is a really classic album, and I am a big fan of Pink Floyd. I love the emotion in this album -- in the music and the lyrics.
Probably not the #2 best album of all time (according to RYM, anyway) but it's still pretty good. I've kind of avoided listening to much Pink Floyd because they kind of seem overrated, and well, I think they still might be but, it's still good music.
top
Outstanding.
Superb.
I've never been huge on Floyd. I did have a copy of The Wall when I was in middle school. I presume that will pop up on this site, at some point. I'd listen to it again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so.
these guys are [on] fire
Bängeri Pink Floyd
tykkään. mutta jotenkin arvion eri korvalla, koska tiedän olevan klassikko. kuuntelin 3 kertaa läpi.
love “wish you were here.” i've never listened to the full album though.
first time ever really listening to pink floyd. Solid album and definitely will listen to it again
May need to re-listen, is definitely more so one of those albums that I think context is required before listening to
only five songs and the first and last two are long but the guitar solos are sooooo fucking goooooodddd
Solid album with very chill vibes.
Familiarity: 8/10 Notes: one of my favorite Pink Floyd albums after Division Bell and The Wall, Wish You Were Here is a delightful album anytime of day, anytime of year. Real Rating: 8/10
Needs more weed
Classic
Classic Floyd. Not The Wall or Dark Side.
long af but can kinda see the appeal of it. dont like lead singer's voice very much, and the title track isn't as sad as most people make it out to be. overall i would give it a 5/10 but i can see how it would be groundbreaking.
good progy opening/closing with Shine On. Welcome to the Machine wears out its welcome after four minutes. Have a cigar saves the album. title track and second half of diamond are solid
It’s a classic for a reason
4 baby again
Vangelis vibes were the last thing I expected going into a Pink Floyd album, but here we are. I'm not sure what exactly the band is trying to say, or if they succeed, but they keep their words short and that helps a lot. The length makes it feel like a prog EP, which is perfect. The bookending with the two halves of Shine On... is particularly nice.
Interesting listening
Meh, too instrumental. I kind of found it boring
It was mostly fine, don't think i'm a fan of their longer songs, as I didn't like Animals either. Highlights-Have A Cigar and Wish You Were Here.
A good time! Liked it better than I thought I would
I liked this.
Heartfelt, classic, semi-psychedelic-and-occasionally-funky.
Pretty good
Not what I was expecting when I started this album. I had previous listen to wish you were here. I love the song but had never listened to the entire album.
Pretty good. Kind of trippy. Bit repetitive.
I'm wondering if I'm missing context to this album. I liked the title track and the rest of the songs are technically really good. But I'm not sure why this is as important as something like The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon.
5 tracks. 3 stars. Look, it's good music, and wish you were here is a 5 star song. I just don't feel the need to ever listen to this again. I already gave Dark Side 5 stars a couple of weeks ago, I can't turn around and do it again for this one. I just have trouble resonating with an album with 5 songs and barely any lyrics, but that's not to say it's bad.
juro soundtrack de película de ciencia ficción
Nostalgic for a time before my own.
I really enjoyed the first song, long but special all the way through. then throughout the album I started losing interest because i heard almost a country influence or tone to it in some parts which doesn't appeal to me personally.
Nice
i think i need to want to like this in order to buy into it. I'm hesitant because this is pretentious and indulgent boomer music. However, it could be a work of genius. The guitar sound is incredible, the confidence to let tracks breathe and become their fullest versions of themselves is welcome and the tracks are very good. maybe when this project is done, i'll spend a few weeks with their discography and some good headphones.
Reminds me of high school, smoking in my friend Barbara’s attic bedroom. Her older brother was so cute.
This feels like the standard for this website - its undeniably goodass rock music that i enjoy quite a bit but dont have a ton of feelings about.
It's okay I guess. Not really memorable though.
I think the problem with being the group that made the wall is that all your other albums will be compared to the wall. This was good but a little slow for me!
Experimental music that fits perfectly in the open credit panning shots of films, or to do night driving to. Otherwise, some incredibly talented musicians largely making music nobody wants to listen to day-to-day, punctuated by a few genuinely enjoyable moments
Not the biggest Pink Floyd fan, but can't deny their influence
It was ok. Enjoyed the instruments on both Shine On tracks the most. 3
Dober
Was okay, knew a couple of the big songs but not blown away. Maybe need to be in the right headspace, could be good if high
Really a 3.5, but no such option here
Better than the last
I always had trouble getting into Pink Floyd. I should like it. It's prog, melodic guitar solos and concept albums. I think there is something about the vocals I can't quite place. But it irks me. Prefer this album over Moon/Wall tho.
I didn't hate it but it doesn't stand out to me. I even gave it a few listens to try and understand the hype (top 10 rated albums on this site, really??) but I just can't really imagine myself putting it on for anything other then background music at work. Good instrumentals, but the tracks are way too long for me. Maybe I needed to have grown up in this era to understand it. TOP 3: Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pt. 1-6), Welcome to the Machine, Wish You Were Here 3/5
I am either getting used to Pink Floyd or this one one was not too bad. One of his better ones.
Boring Band, boring album. Includes one masterpiece.
Couple of great songs, but I've never like songs about the music industry. Can't exactly relate lol.
Is it possible for Pink Floyd to write an album non bloviated and self obsessed and taking themselves SO SO seriously?!? Look, Waters is not my jam but the song wish you were here is beautiful and parts of shine on can shine…so I guess if I had to have one Floyd album..
6/10
pink floyd fans when they tell you to wait 8 minutes for the song to get to the good part fave track: shine on you crazy diamond (pts. 1-5)
More and more I realize that I am drifting away from caring about guitar playing
Never really “got” Pink Floyd, and a few spins of this didn’t clarify much. It’s solid, well-performed, well-recorded 70s rock. Nothing more, nothing less.
Quite beautiful, awfully short. Reminds me of my father. I think I would appreciate this more if I was a boy in his mid-20s, just like how old my father was when this album came out. How I wish I could tailor my body to fit into the target audience for each of these albums.
Not my favorite Floyd, though it does have a few bangers for sure. Pretty subtle album.
Do you, yes you, like really long guitar solos and really quiet vocals? Well this album is for you. Joking aside this album was ok.
Ik herinner me enkele typische pink Floyd liedjes
Good tunes but a bit too quiet / soft spoken for me.
ok, respectfuly
Love sound of it, but distinction of it is lost with only 5 tracks but then the first and last track are parts all together. Am I supposed to recognize the distinction from part 1 fading into part 2. Though it was good for doing work to.
