Reviews (page 11 of 15)

The title track is the best one on the album. Enjoyed this a lot, but for me it fell just a bit short of the transcendent experience of Dark Side of the Moon.

This used to be my favorite Pink Floyd album, but I've come to discover Animals and Meddle, and it leaves this album paling in comparison. Still, their best that the generator has to offer, for sure.

This was good to listen to in the background and I liked it all. Not my favourite but I appreciated the effort Pink Floyd

So, so you think you can tell? Really great album, Shine on you crazy diamond part 72 is the only thing keeping it from 5 stars.

I think I’m a point in my musical journey where I’m not all that interested in things that, on the surface, prescribe self importance. In our current day and age, if I see enough people talking about a rock album or band being “one of the greatest ever”, I hesitate to fully commit time to listening. This is due to a lot of things. Mainly being just how often non-straight-white-guys are left out of the canon of not only rock, but mainstream music as a whole. It’s kind of a conscious rejection of the Rolling Stone Magazine canon of western music. There are several albums that are left off of this 1089 album list that feel like no brainers considering their importance to non-rock genres of music. (I’m beyond baffled that D’Angelo has one album on this list and it’s not Voodoo). I’m mostly glad that poptimism has more or less beat out rockism in the current zeitgeist. Pink Floyd one of those bands that I could neatly place into this box of overly-praised rock music for me. Stuff that is usually pretty good, but since I don’t have an emotional connection and my favorite artists of today don’t often site as influences on their artistry, I tip toed around them. This group also included groups like Radiohead and The Rolling Stones. But just like Radiohead, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc. these groups often more than prove their worth and that they are 100% deserving, at least a little bit, of the heaps of praise that are tossed on them. It’s good, but not as impactful/influential as some would like you to believe. Wish You Were Here is great though. The guitar solos capture emotion better than many other noodlers of yesteryear. This album has way more SONGs than the 5 tracks that are listed here because each weave in and out of different, but related sonic motifs, making the overall runtime just fly by. Nothing drags. The vocals are really great. And to cap it off, the title track is making a really solid case for one of my favorite new-to-me songs of this project so far. It’s good. You got me. This one deserves the love.

Love it!

When I’m in the right mood & environment, I know I’d enjoy this. But I couldn’t listen to this every day. And it would never be a choice to play it. Their music for me has a time & a place. That time is at home in the evening. With narcotics.

einer meiner ersten alben ich liebe es.

Ya lo había escuchado ajjsjs, mis favoritas la primera y la última

8.5/10 A deep cut for love for hx drug use and death of friends mixed with production quality I would get stuck in an elevator for 2 days with.

5 songs and 45 minutes long? Oh boy. But it's not bad. The two 12-13 min songs are complementing the other three songs well. "Wish you were here" is good

в качестве фоновой музыки - отлично

Feb 26th 2025 (Wed) | Day 3 - Fav song: Welcome to the Machine #1970s #1975 #spotify #'25 #feb '25 [4.5*]

What an album - 5 songs but almost 45 minutes, and it was such an adventure listening to all NINE parts of Shine On You Crazy Diamond. I think that this album is great, but it's not for all occasions - you can't really listen to it and party, it's more for when you're in a relaxed mood and want to have this playing in the background.

A classic in all shapes and forms. Explendid atmosphere, performance and production. I don't give it 5 stars because I don't think is perfect, but is almost up there.

I like PF a lot but I find this one a bit smug and dare I say it , a bit boring. Still a 4 though.

Had this one on CD in highschool. Enjoyed it then, and still enjoy it now.

The psychedelic factor definitely takes it up a notch. I was staring at my ceiling and wondering why the walls looked so funny. THAT is why I listen to music.

I feel like I enjoyed the music more than I should have. It was pretty chill and simple. Would have preferred more vocals

periodt, the song ate and i love the track so much but it could do better JKK

Love the funky synth sounds

Another one that I haven't listened to a ton other than Dark Side of the Moon. This one is pretty solid. One or two that I enjoy

The song Wish You Were Here is my favorite Pink Floyd song, love the guitar in it and the way it builds up. The other songs on here were alright. Shine on You Crazy Diamond is good but too long for my tastes. 8/10

This album is sweet. I listened to it as one long song. This is far from my first time listening to it, so I don't have a lot of new listener takes to provide. It's the kind of album you just fall into. It makes me feel like I'm in bed and high. I have a memory of listening to a live performance of this entire album with my friend Dan in his truck. It was almost ten years ago and I remember it, so it must have affected me. Not a lot of individual moments stand out, but the entire thing blends in to one rocking song. "Wish You Were Here" is legendary. 8/10

Great album, almost a 5. I think Animals and Meddle might be better though

Doesn’t quite rise to the level of Dark Side of the Moon or The Wall, but comes close. The title track alone helps push it there and to this day is simply timeless.

Not their best album but still good. The title track is probably the best one.

My favorite Pink Floyd album. They are, generally speaking, not really my jam, but I do listen to this album semi-regularly, especially the title track

This is obviously a pinnacle of the prog/rock genre, and it is beautifully made. Really amazing sounds and progressions. And amazing that this was just a few years after the Beatles. But on the other hand... this is kind of clinical and detached. I feel like I'm watching the prefects put on a concert.

More intentionally ambient than the wall, and more cohesive and shorter (even though I suppose shine on is like 15 minutes lol)

So much beauty in this album. I feel like Welcome to the Machine drags it down just enough to miss out on five stars. But not to worry Pink Floyd will reach that summit.

Great album. I knew the title track before but I hadn’t sat down to listen to this album. Needs more listens but a great introduction to Pink Floyd (if necessary).

Have not really listened to much Pink Floyd as had previously dismissed as wanky toss when i was in my punk phase and never really revisited this opinion. Roll forward 30 years or so and its much more up street and very much enjoyed large parts of the album - unfortunately there are some wanky bits like the sax solo - but still happy to give it a solid 4.

Despite the album being languorous, indulgent, bloated, there is such a commitment to it - something completely imperious about this album. I don't think it has the warmth of Dark Side - it feels a lot more clinical. But there is an ambience to be enjoyed, and you can cast aside the pretension of a song in 9 parts. An album which conjures a mood and does it really well. And included one of the greatest tracks of all time, in the title track. It's so close, but it gets to a high four.

Love this album.

Pretty solid if you’re in the mood for it, which I wasn’t necessarily but I can see why people like it.

Pretty good on a distracted first pass! The shine on first section was brilliant, second section less so (though I enjoyed the fade), title track was nice. Already knew the lore and was a nice tribute. Will relisten with full attention in the future

I think this is relaxing in a way. It reminds me of what it feels like to follow your own path. That it gets lonely but thats is not the reason not to take it. It gets better… The entire -ballad? Should I say?- is a preparation for that. It is an auditory example of the say “good things take time to fester”. You have to be patient. One more thing, it feels somewhat foreign, this feeling, unknown or better yet, unexplored. Yet this is not the first time I have been at this place. It has been quite some time though. That might be my queue, my signal to go on. To start this other new part of my journey and tread lightly, every corner has a new mystery.

This is the second Pink Floyd album that's been generated for me in a four-day span. I can do without the intro, and the outro, but other than that, it's an excellent example of Progressive Rock, and the peak of Pink Floyd. I just wish it was a bit longer. When I use this generator, I need to welcome the machine, and take whatever I get thrown at me. Favorite song: "Wish You Were Here".

Enjoyable prog rock. Standout is the opening first pat of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" which brings the listener on an ethereal ride. Other standout is the title track which sounds like a more mainstream rock song with the vocals sounding a little like folk 60's singers.

The length of the tracks daunted me at first. But this is a wonderful, relaxing album to listen to. I can see why Pink Floyd has such a legendary status - the album's autobiographical themes gives it power enough to stick out.

A top 3 Floyd album for me. I love "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and the title track, but not as high on the two other songs. High 4.5 stars

4.5/5. Great record

Loved it

Very remarkable album, I feel I need to listen it once more

It's interesting to comeback to what I thought at age 16 was my favorite PF album, back when I wasn't all that into listening to albums or judged just based on what songs were cool but I was *almost* there in listening to all the songs in an album. It's almost been a decade since (ouch) and it's weird to realize how much I still remember about this album (and also enjoy) but also how much I didn't remember like the smaller details to the instrumentals, particularly the synth work on the Shine on You Crazy Diamond suite orthe foils in Welcome to the Machine. It's the kinds of things that make me realize that there is still a lot that I can dig into these older albums that I didn't realize initially now that I'm more conscious of these things. Anyway, unlike other prog albums I heard before this one is one of the best, maybe it's how emotional and mechanical/space inspired it can be, there's no grand concept beyond being an ode to Sid Barrett and struggles with being a band but it's just really good at acompaning this instrumentals thay fit just what they wanna communicate and I love that about it I'm glad I could return to this one with a fresh outlook on it and still come out of it enjoying it a ton

Could never go wrong with Pink Floyd. Awesome album!

Hell yeah, Pink Floyd. I mostly just like "Wish You Were Here" though.

Great album and vibe from start to finish. A masterclass on what you can do with a very simple chord structure. Not an all time favorite for me, but great nonetheless

I grew up listening to this album and specifically, the title track so it was really good to listen again with grown up ears.

Very much an album listen; it’s just so nicely tied up into a cohesive package. Grew up around this music, so there’s some bias, but I still won’t give it a 5.

Bit of a classic and only Have A Cigar stops it being a five star. Four and a half 😊

The first Pink Floyd album I ever purchased. It was really good great on headphones, especially I don’t think as good as dark side of the moon of the wall but after those two This is MY FAVORITE.

Was kinda expecting this to be a 5 but no dice. The two 12 minute songs was really what hurt it. Also I didn't think the other two songs were phenomenal, but really well done. "Wish You Were Here" is the best song on this album (and one of their best of all time) but that's kinda the only shining moment on this album. Everything else is just kinda meh for me although production wise it is really well put together and sounds good, just didn't connect for me.

I like some Pink Floyd but just not the long, drawn out instrumental pieces....and there are several on here. Shine On is a great piece, once they get to the lyrics. Wish You Were Here is just a fantastic, fantastic piece (and one of my favorite by them). Rating gets bumped up just because of that track alone

Um bom album de prog. Gosto de progressivo e gosto de Pink Floyd. Algumas músicas já tinha ouvido antes, seja em covers, seja as originais. Enfim, muito bom

I don't know why I like this so much more than a lot of other prog/art rock on this list. Maybe nostalgia? Maybe the format? Their most "art" song is split in two to open and close the album. It's a slow introduction, which builds to a more complex piece, then mirrors that on the second half. In the middle are songs that are a bit more "radio friendly," but they are still experimental. overall, I really enjoy this, it's got a couple great songs, and the album as a whole is quite well realized.

Atmospheric and generally pretty excellent

Maybe it's because I'm drunk and I've been crying for the past hour over an animated film, but I really liked this, and I've tried to like Pink Floyd before. all parts of 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' were great. The others were kind of whatever on a second listen.

Wish You Were Here (song) is among my favorites. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (all parts) are tutorials in guitar creativity and excellence.

Not my favorite Pink Floyd album, but dang is it good.

A deeply bitter and paranoid album, which contains a stark beauty for all that. Knowing the history behind Shine On You Crazy Diamond makes it hit that much harder.

“Wish you were her”…how many of these is he going to send?

seems it was actually pretty decent. Will listen again

A very good album, with a mostly instrumental song beginning the album and closing the album. Standout track: Wish You Were Here

The opening songs and wish you were here were great, the rest just alright. Good album though

Dark Side was one of the first albums served through this site, in the first couple of weeks I was doing this alone. At the time I gave it a 4 - thought I needed to leave room in the ceiling. I would give it a 5 now. I really like prog rock, through composed stuff, and albums that hang together beyond individual hits. I didn’t realize how much of a full album band Pink Floyd is, probably why I never really “got” them. They’re kind of the perfect band for this process of slowing down to listen to the whole thing. Maybe I’ll end up reranking this as well, enjoyed this a lot - man I love the title track - but didn’t really enjoy this as much as Darkside.

Not Dark Side of the Moon but still quite good.

4 stars for wish you were here the song, flawless, no notes. the rest was aight

An experience that really requires listening to uninterrupted in one sitting. Has peaks and valleys but the overall experience is quite good. I do think it would be better without the middle track.

Wish You Were Here is not the best Pink Floyd album. But it is the most accessible of all Pink Floyd albums. It consists of four songs; and three of them became FM radio staples (Welcome to the Machine, Have a Cigar, and Wish You Were Here). The fourth song (Shine on You Crazy Diamond) is 26 minutes long, and is wisely split into two tracks that bookend the album. Conceptually, Wish You Were Here is also one of the least dense Floyd records. The songs are split between sorrowful odes to their fallen leader, Syd Barrett (SOYCD and the title track), and scathing stabs at the music industry (Welcome & Cigar). The music is engaging; and apart from Shine On, the songs are relatively concise. The tracks about Syd are earnest and heartfelt. The tracks about "the machine" are cold and cynical. But on the whole, the album doesn't overstay its welcome. And if ever Pink Floyd was making deliberate moves for radio, it's here in the title track, and Have a Cigar. Wish You Were Here doesn't have the lingering impact of Dark Side of the Moon, or The Wall; but it is probably the best entry point to Pink Floyd fandom. And that's good enough.

Erreicht nicht ganz die Größe wie andere PF Alben…8/10

I don’t really like Pink Floyd But this was surprisingly good. David Gilmour‘s guitar licks are fantastic. My main criticism would be that “Shine on you crazy diamond” song was awfully long.

the middle 3 songs are my favorite of all of the Pink catalog.

I liked this album a lot. This the 4th album of Pink Floyd's I've listened to. Not as good as "DSotM" though, that one is unbeatable. "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is incredible and never gets dull. The other songs aren't filler at all. 4 stars for "Wish You Were Here".

Really enjoyed this! About time I listened to the band I likened Coldbones to if anyone over 50 asked about our sound. Definitely some elements we share but this album is a trip and the production is so good. Some super cool panning going on! 45 minutes was about right as well.. Gorillaz should’ve taken note!

Yeah nice. This is cool. Loved all parts of Shine On You Crazy Diamond and the moody themes throughout 🙏🏻

This album has to be listened in its entirety. I hadn't appreciated Pink Floyd as much as they deserve before this. It was atmospheric, a love letter to a former member and probably mental with a belly full of drugs 😂😂 I really liked it, although it's more an experience than something I could just pop on.

Much more of an instrumental album than I realized but very good nonetheless.

The more albums I listen to on here the more I realize how much these rock and roll heads love blues

"Have a Cigar" and "Wish You Were Here" are gorgeous bits of music.

We’re all just a bunch of lost souls in fish bowls. Great top to bottom. My favorite Pink Floyd album.

very long intro quality music

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V) 4 Welcome to the Machine 4 Have a Cigar 4.3 Wish You Were Here 4.4 Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI - IX) 4.2 Score: 4.18

Nice atmospheric and moody. Worked well as an album. Stand-out: Have a Cigar

Classic and timeless

Wish You Were Here is a belter. Liked Shine On You Crazy Diamond too although a bit long. Gonna give it an extra star for how clean and crisp the quality is.

Roger Waters is the man.

I can see why everyone loves this album, but it still is not my cup of tea. I guess I am that based preferring Radiohead, Queen, and god forbid Linkin Park over Wish You Were Here

Classic

I enjoy listening to Pink Floyd and this is an album I haven't heard before. I liked Welcome to the Machine the best.

Love it. Didn’t think I was a Pink Floyd fan beforehand and maybe I’m still not, but this album is special. Opening track steals the show but the artistry and storytelling on Welcome to the Machine is also remarkable. Essential to listen to this in full, undistracted, and let the music take you.

Meditative and enjoyable-peaceful

Their creativity, patience, and innovation shine here. They let their music breathe in a way few artists allow. This is an odyssey through space that you can really sell into. Built for a good set of headphones, stars, and maybe some LSD if you’re feeling adventurous.

You can tell when an artist has the sauce, and Pink Floyd has the sauce. Both prog rock jams, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Pts. 1-5 and Pts. 6-9, are awesome and sound fascinating and feel like a true journey. While Wish You Were Here is a classic, I think I liked Have a Cigar a touch more. Definitely an album you have to commit to the whole thing for, as each song doesn't work too well individually, but if you have the time, then it's a really awesome 45 mins.

This introduction is transcendent. It feels like entering a new world or something. Overall I loved how structured the album was, it had a clear beginning and end with the last track. My fave song off this was Have a Cigar. Felt very bluesy which I love.

Listened to this a few times. Good one to relax to

Allegedly the most enjoyable album Floyd ever recorded with Watrers and Gilmour. Unannounced during the session a Syd Barrett - fat, bald, unrecognisable - walked in to say hello. 'Shine On..' was about him. And then asking the artist next door - Roy Harper - to have a go at the vocal on 'Have a Cigar.' So well his go, it was the take used. Happy days, seventies myth and bonhomie and a cracking record to boot.

yep it's still good. ya gotta hand it to them. i wish that the shine on you crazy diamond parts were broken up into individual tracks for the sake of the current ~streaming era~ but like most things of that ilk, i appreciate that the work is so linked to the original physical format (i.e. a vinyl record)—i think it's a great demonstration of how practical technological limitations influence our conception of something like music. the medium is the message as they say 😳 idk if that makes sense but we can talk about it later lol. fav tracks: have a cigar, wish you were here [i may or may not have teared up while listening to the latter......EMBARRASSING!!!]

yeah that was good. not much else to say i haven't listened to this probably since high school but it still hits

We know this album and the lyrics to all four songs, it’s a sing-a-long from start to finish. Fun listen. Both give it (4.3*s)

There's nothing bad to say about this one, not even the long runtime on all parts of Shine On is negative for me. Nothing else needs to be said. Stellar.

One of the top Pink Floyd albums (post Syd). Little long on the shiny diamonds but a stellar album start to finish. I have always loved "Welcome to the Machine" with its slow mechanical burn. "Have a Cigar" is a fun one with more jabs at the music industry. Title track is the topper...flawless, emotional, and everyone knows every word. Cover art is cool enough to have up on my display shelf...probably some more symbolism of industry deals and lies. Glad to finally see some Floyd on the list...4.25.

Wish You Were Here is nearly flawless in its execution. The worst song on the album is Welcome to Machine which is still a solid song in its own right. While a 20+ minute jam may not be everybody's cup of tea, Shine On You Crazy Diamond might be the best example of a long jam ever. I personally love this album and while I have a lot of personal history with Dark Side or The Wall, Wish You Were Here might be the choice for best Floyd album. It is so enjoyable from start to finish and is a a perfect entry point for anyone hesitant to jump into Pink Floyd's discography. 4.4 stars

This album had mixed reviews upon release but its acclamation has steadily grown. I’m still with those early reviewers, and not sure what the big fuss is about. But… a little fuss is warranted! So I’m rounding up to 4 for the musicality and the strength of its best songs (which are also the most familiar).

Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.

Wish You Were Here is one of Pink Floyd’s most emotionally resonant albums — a reflective, atmospheric tribute to absence, loss, and the pitfalls of the music industry. It trades some of the grand concept sprawl of The Dark Side of the Moon for a tighter, more personal focus, and it pays off beautifully. “Wish You Were Here” is a standout — haunting in its simplicity, heartfelt without being sentimental. It’s one of the most enduring acoustic tracks in rock history, full of quiet yearning. “Have a Cigar,” on the other hand, brings swagger and satire, poking holes in the industry machine with biting lyrics and a funky, driving groove. While “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” bookends the album with grand ambition, it occasionally drifts a little too far into the ether. Still, when Wish You Were Here is locked in, it’s stunning — thoughtful, mournful, and musically rich. A near-masterpiece with a soul.

Ok, so I'm just going to get 3/4 of the Pink Floyd albums on this list out of the way in one month (and within my first 100 albums). Cool. Anyway, this was better than The Wall but I didn't like it as much as Dark Side of the Moon. Still a solid album, and I do really like the song "Wish You Were Here" just on its own. I think "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" (parts 1-9) is too long, but I generally liked the album as a whole anyway.

the appeal and polarization in pink floyd is that, if they are prog at all, they are the most moderate and instantly digestible prog in existence. all the musical phrases inherit an instantaneousness from their grounding in capital b Blues, and all their cumulative statements inherit a big weighty gravity from their ability to achieve aesthetic/thematic unity and clarity in a way that is readable to just about anyone. in other words, if im being cynical (which i have a slight inclination to be given my loaded history with the band as one of my former favorites and Big Musical Gateways that i fell out of favor with), i could describe the band's style as cribbing from musicians more adventurous and/or More Black then them, and stacking up mountains of credit that they dont really "deserve" due to not actually being either of those things to a degree that will offend common consensus tastes. being less cynical, i enjoyed this revisit of my former favorite album of all time (as a teen) more then i expected , just because even (and maybe especially) in their instantly readable mellow tones, they created a very emotive record that pulls that quality from a variety of well-selected traditions. they are not a flashy band, and that Does have a bit more worth then maybe i thought...it makes all their big lofty ideas feel attainable and approachable, and thus more emotionally immediate. they will likely never be one of my favorite bands again, but here is yet another Day Of Reckoning where i was able to make some peace. at the v least, fun to discover that welcome to the machine is Easily my runaway favorite on the album now...comes the closest to fully recapturing that old vividness

Awesome band!

I like and dislike Pink Floyd. While I probably won't listen to this again anytime soon, I can see why this album is on the list.

One of the best albums out there

Un altro ottimo album, bravi bravi

Wish it was longer.

Pink Floyd in general, and parts of this album are "wall of sound" music. Everything hits the senses at once. Either you feel delighted or overwhelmed. The other half of this album are some of the most memorable guitar licks of all time. David Gilmour uses the same blues scale as everybody else, but his sounds are like a human being singing a beautiful melody. If you play at all, you've tried "Wish You Were Here". And that's my ONLY problem with the album. The two halves don't go together. It's a jarring switch between them. I've always wished they would have stuck to one concept on the album. So ride me out on a rail, but I can't give it a five.

The algorithm is good to me, blessing me with this album after yesterday's flop. This is really just stellar - it doesn't quite hit the 5 star mark, but only because I have very specific standards for an album to reach that calibre, but this is definitely a 5 star album in general.

It's like watching a movie.

Felt like I was watching a movie with no visuals. A bit repetitive at times but that was my only issue. Really good, really cool. The title song through to the end of the album was 5/5.

I have this one on vinyl but wasn't aware this is a whole album. The star of this one can follow you into your dreams.

Great album

No point on commenting on this one, I suppose. IYKYK :)

It's Pink Floyd.

Pretty good not that good

I liked the number of songs. Nice album cover too. My favorite song was the titular one, the others were good but kind of boring.

Pink Floyd is one of those bands/artists that makes me Super happy I'm doing this 1001 thing. Obviously I know who Pink Floyd are but I never really listened to them before. I wanted to give this a 5 but the long instrumentals were a bit much for me -- they sounded amazing but I think some of their more songy songs are more up my alley. Still really great 8/10

Pretty enjoyable, but I think only because I wasn’t paying close attention 7/10

Like I’ve said many times before, it doesn’t get much more boring than prog rock- but as far as prog goes Pink Floyd is actually pretty enjoyable. I liked this album

By no means a Floyd fan but listened to this a lot. Not sure why. It's quite self indulgent but wish you were here is one of the greatest songs.... ever

Hade höga förhoppningar. Det är bra. Jag är inget superga av långa elektroniska låtar men det här soundet gillar jag mycket.

Honestly really really good, could even be a 5 with more listens and I enjoyed it slightly more then DSOTM 4.5/5

I didn’t actually listen to it all but I don’t even need to because it’s Pink Floyd. Wish you were here is special to me.

Really enjoyed this, not listened to it in ages, love the guitar tone throughout

A classic record. Great recording. I’m not a big fan of Shine on You Crazy Diamond, but the other tracks are to my liking.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond Welcome to the Machine Have a Cigar Wish You Were Here

I enjoyed humming along to this. They don't take their time, but not everything has to fit on a 7", so that's a nice change. Shame about Roger Waters politics! I tried getting my kids into Pink Floyd but they weren't interested. I'm pretty sure adults tried to get me into them too back in the day.

Really enjoyed listening to this all the way through again.

Got better and better as the album progressed.

Just a fun listen, start to finish. Turn it on and let it wash over you. Wake up and go to bed.

Oh by the way, which one’s Pink?

Interesting spun-out songs: very well done.

The sax! OMG! first track 💜

1. banger, 2. meh, 3. bra, 4. meh, 5. bra Overall: 8/10

Is this the best album? Wish You Were Here is in the middle I say this because come on 5 songs and its 45 minutes my second reason why. why I like it a little I love everything but yeah 5 songs and 45 minutes i recommend

the same old fears...

I was surprised that I knew every song on this album, also surprised they were only four.

Very solid album, and tighter than "The Wall."

Better than I remember this being.

Really enjoyable album and another classic from the Floyd lineup

its a good album but im never listening to a 15 minute song outside an album 4/5

Good stuff. Simpsons: Yes

Wish You Were Here is a great tune. Rest of the album was pretty good.

I was firmly anti-prog rock for most of my life. I remember being bothered by Pavement mentioning Geddy Lee in “Stereo” and wondering why musicians all seemed to like that stupid hair metal band. But after reading “Ready Player One” I decided to give Rush a chance and they were my gateway drug into all things prog. And now I am a huge fan of the genre. Yes, ELP, Genesis, Jethro Tull, King Crimson. I have fully embraced prog and am happier for having done so. My wife and daughters having to be around me when I listen to it, not so much. Is Pink Floyd the best prog rock band of all time? Can they even be properly labeled as prog? I think so, but if someone differed I would respect that opinion. But I think “Wish You Were Here” and “Dark Side of the Moon” were two of the greatest prog rock albums ever made. If you are in the mood for this type of music, this would be one of your go-to albums to put on. If a pop or rock song goes on over four minutes, I start to get antsy, but a 13 minute prog song never wears out its welcome. I kind of wish that they hadn’t split up “Shine On” and just left it as one song. I love it when a whole side of an album is just one song. But that is just a quibble. This album is proggy enough for the weirdos but poppy enough for the normies. It is a masterpiece.

Which one’s pink. Ha 4.5

Giving it a 4 because it's the soundtrack of Jojo Part 4

Dirses Album hat zwei meiner Lieblingssongs von Pink Floyd, welche sehr zeitlos sind!

Sad and beautiful.

Shine on you crazy diamond is a great song, but I don't find myself caring about the 3 songs that interrupt it as much. Pink Floyd has made better albums.

bits of annoying but still solid. could i write poetry to this? n

It would be a shorter list to name the non-essential Pink Floyd albums. "Wish You Were Here" gets four stars only because it's not "Dark Side of the Moon" or "The Wall."

Shine On could be trimmed. Welcome to the Machine kind of irritates me. But overall, I love this album!

I missed this day somehow.

So good

Theatrical, fun harmonies!

Doesn’t reach the highs of Dark Side of the Moon or the best of The Wall. But I still vibe with a lot of it. 4/5

For a 5 song album, this really checks a lot of boxes in terms of innovation and creating imagery not only with the lyrics but with the instrumentation as well.

Intro/outro are a little much, but the main three tracks are all absolute epic.

Good, still makes me want to sleep.

good but not my favorite

The power of the acoustic guitar

Incredibly cohesive Pink Floyd demonstration. I remain a huge Floyd fan, favoring the late 60s and early 70s albums. Pre Dark Side of the moon. I'd like to call this their magnum opus, but The Wall remains that with mixed fanfare. Thus I refrain and call it the most cohesive work, one song with 12 parts that doesn't even feel broken up by the time it fades in from the second to last track. Anthemic guitar solos, experimental time signatures and the grooves coming from heavy drum and bass cohesion propel this album to the stratosphere. Last note, the hilarious introspection and satirical inclusion of Have a Cigar on a major record label release shortly after the Wall is my favorite piece of Floyd charisma ever.

- really really good - they have a way of creating emotion in their music - Wish You Were Here is a beautifully nostalgic song

Un altro ottimo album, bravi Pink Floyd.

Yes. This is an album. The sounds here are both all over the place and clearly centralized. You can clearly hear a theme that runs through the album. Great bookend songs.

I think I like pink Floyd's earlier albums more but this is an incredible album. Low 4.

One of my very favourites. There is one or two discordant tracks thus the 4

Liked this a lot! The perfect soundtrack for while I was working out.

Some really great guitar on here - lyrics and vocals are a bit of an after thought. The pretentious Roger Waters has yet to emerge. Real jam band sort of stuff, contemporary with the Dead and pre-Phish.

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Shine on you crazy diamond, Welcome to the machine, Wish you were here

All of it was great except for "Welcome to the Machine". It's a nice album to listen to while I'm doing work. Additionally, the best song in this album would have to be "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-5)".

The big 2 on here(wish and shine on) are some of the best songs ever, the rest are not that interesting

Cool man!!!

Pretty damn awesome from the first twang to the last chord but didn’t overly enjoy.

Better than The Wall, mainly because its a more appropriate length. Again, the musicianship is excellent, but it's still a bit highly strung. A low 4.

Last song was a banger. Loving the exposure to guitar from all these albums.

Pretty good time jamming out.

This was really good! It is very rare that I will listen to 25 minutes of the same song (split into two parts at the beginning and end of the album) and never get sick of it. I think conceptually, “The Wall” is definitely better than this album, but I liked the sound of this one better.

A really great album that I have heard before. I'm sure I will listen to it again, it's a classic.

Some parts of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” will have you looking at your watch but everything else is pure prog-rock bliss.

Classic

Very cool!

Some undeniably well written stuff but also moments of what sounded like someone wobbling keys aimlessly on their cool new synthesiser thinking they're the second coming of christ.

The opening of Shine On you Crazy Diamond , using wineglass rims, then those notes…. Epic….

very close to a 10/10

This being one of the highest rated albums on here, I really had high hopes for this. I’m honestly struggling between a 3 and a 4. The guitar playing is exceptional. A 5 song album is kinda whack Arnold’s though. The hits on here are so good though. I think my final ruling is a 3.505.

Never listened to this album all the way through, but enjoyed it.

good album - forgot to write down notes but i think i really liked it.

This is an interesting concept album by Pink Floyd. This progressive rock album is fluid, building up, ungulates and lives, and slowly releases. This is a great album that must be listened to whole in order to gain a fuller appreciation of the writing and musicianship.

Skipped. Cannot with this album. Maybe never again.

One of my big problems with Prog is that, while I find the bad stuff soulless and insipid, an attempt to impress rather than to create true art, I’m also not particularly impressed by the good stuff, finding that it never really rises above the level of pleasant sounding distraction. I’ve been assured by multiple people who like this genre that that is what they enjoy. Turning their brain off and just letting the music was over them. But that isn’t what floats my boat musically. I like hooks and emotion, rather than chops. Pink Floyd’s run between DSOTM and The Wall is probably the best of the classic Prog, and it’s firmly within my parameters for ‘good’ Prog. I can happily put any of the albums on and essentially just nap for 40-80 minutes. And of all of these nap albums, I probably like Wish You Were Here the most. It’s got the title track, which has the emotion that I find lacking in other Prog projects, and is otherwise a pleasant bit of music to listen to. It’s still nowhere close to my favourite music ever, but it’s passable. And for this overrated slog of a genre, passable is the best that it can hope for

Beautiful, hypnotic music. Great for studying or getting work done.

Fire, probably no skips, 4.5

Wish You Were Here is the ninth album by English rock band Pink Floyd. This progressive art rock album released to mixed reviews as some felt it was uninspired and inferior to the band's previous work, but it has since received praise as some of their finest work and one of the greatest albums of all time. It was the band's fastest selling album of all time and has been certified gold in Argentina, Greece, & Poland, and platinum or multi-platinum in Australia, Austria, Canada, France (10x aka diamond), Germany, Italy, New Zealand, the UK, & the US. Musically the band again uses synthesizers and acoustic guitars primarily in addition to other instruments occasionally, but intricate everyday sounds were sampled and added to the mix also. The vocals were great and complimented the music well. Most of the run time is taken up by "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," a nine part ballad paying tribute to founding band member Syd Barrett who left seven years earlier due to mental health reasons, but visited the studio during the production of this album. It's interesting history, how the concept of this album became wrapped around Syd, since he is a victim of how the music industry can turn people crazy and then extended absences are the only way they can cope with their sadness. Overall, Wish You Were Here is one of the best Pink Floyd's albums, and on the list of the greatest progressive rock albums. It's a stellar piece of simple, yet attractive music that is carried by its "soul". I highly recommend this album, although it may leave you wanting more.

Shine on you crazy diamon pt 1-5 i don’t remember being this bluesy AS FUCK The through like is but hazier than I remembered. It’s fantastic music but it doesn’t feel life changing? I don’t know how to explain it Maybe it’s cause I’ve listen to it before and it’s the first album that I’ve heard all the songs before Gonna give it the benefit of the doubt and go with 4 over 3

Enjoyed the album. 6/10

You know, the fact that this album only has 5 songs but lasts 45 minutes already makes me not want to listen to it. Okay so I liked that way more than I thought I would. 4/5

Pink Floyd is the perfect example of music as an art form. Besides being great music, this record carries so much weight, emotion, and darkness. It's artsy and a little bit self-indulgent, but never in a manner that's off putting. At the same time it also wears its heart on its sleeve, without ever being corny. Not as good as The Dark Side of the Moon, but very close. Standouts are Wish You Were Here and the entire 25-minute run of Shine On You Crazy Diamond.

A classic. A true album.

miren the wall amigos la primera ta bastante piola la segunda ta normal en general suena bien pero es medio lento pa mi gusto

Really good

Which One’s Pink? Good stuff…Part of the Canon.

The title track is memorable beyond its years (even now), but I really just wanted to skip ahead to parts VI–IX of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" while listening. I think Syd would too.

2024-02-27...

Four good songs that are mostly too long. This was my first time listening to the entire album since my first year in college, and time hasn't brought any new appreciation. The playing and production are great, just too much space-filling for me. Still, 4 stars for the production alone.

She shine on my diamond till I'm crazy

Solid.

The title track “Wish You Were Here” is a beautiful song that I added to my monthly playlist. The others were cool, but not necessarily re-listens for me.

Shine on you was a bop, wasnt expecting it to be 13 mins but didnt feel long

Love this band. Maybe not quite my favourite album - Dark side of the moon better!

As with all Pink Floyd albums this one too is an experience.

One of many incredible albums by Pink Floyd. What else is there to even say on this one that hasn't been said already.

Quite nice. Need to be in the right mood and really listen to it

A favorite

Thought about a 5 but there are a few bits where it dragged ever so slightly. It's a high 4 though

A classic rock album and an interesting prog album. Packed with synth and a handful of jazz influenced interludes, the album builds a harsh look at the price of stardom in its tribute to the former front man, Syd Barrett. Pink Floyd had fully transformed by this point and we're well on their way to their chaotic falling apart. This album is effortless to listen to in the background and has likely cycled through the backdrop of burnt out bars for years. The title track plays this unique trick in sounding exactly like Pink Floyd but filled with emotion that the band has slowly become disassociated from over the course of its tenure.

Classic

Very good album that I nonetheless have issues with for reasons that have nothing to do with the quality of the songs.

Typically long songs and lack of vocals make it harder for me to get into a song. Though they do such a wonderful job creating an atmosphere I see why they are still so popular to this day.

Felt calming at times, easy to get work done or relax

very gentle , not entirely what i expected but something i wouldnt say no to listening to if asked. probably not something ill listen all the way through very often.

This is a very good album. Probably a 4.5/5 so will decide what to give it. But I've heard only 1 song by pink Floyd before and I enjoyed it but this album was incredibly progressive and chill and just very well performed.

Classic pysychadelic rock.

When I close my eyes I see Factory workers. It's music that would work well when you want to get things done and keep a pace and go and you could play this on repeat. Although it does make me sort of anxious.

Unexpectedly great

Wish you were here and shine on you crazy diamond are excellet

Old favorite. and still a favorite

Nice but so sad

Better than Prince. Still not great.

This is my first Pink Floyd album! Let me just say that this was longer than I thought. 44 minutes with a 5 song run time? Even though each of the parts of “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” are separated into two different songs, it’s still kind of concerning. This was a nice album, though. 4.2/5 Favorite Song: “Wish You Were Here” Least Favorite: None

I appreciate it but not really getting the hype

Sprawling and conceptual. Never gave Pink Floyd too much of a chance, but this seems like a concept album of the highest degree. Not exactly my cup of tea for an every day listen, but impressive nonetheless. Wish there were half stars.

In line with DSotM

Just a great listen, easy to drift away to, sounded incredible

Musicalmente es 5/5, pero no es algo que me pondría en mi día a día.

Great album. It's only 5 songs long but each song is a completely different experience. "Welcome to the Machine" is such a great track; hauntingly sad. I knew 2 songs before listening and the other 3 are just as great. The songs are very long and I'm not sure that was necessary.

Cool psychedelic album with amazing guitar work and strong messages.

I really have only listened to another brink in the wall and this album was so fantastic. I wonder if daft punk got some of there sounds for RAM from this album

A lot more instrumental than I anticipated. Lots of slow burns in a relatively short album. It was a nice listen!

Fantastic album, not my favorite Floyd but still really incredible. 4/5

Love the guitar, as always a good classic

I enjoyed the guitar work a lot. It isn't something I would listen to normally, but I absolutely get why people dig it. Also some really fun production that I'm sure was groundbreaking at the time.

first one. 7.1.24. darkness in pants. guitarr carried

Good album, but already a well-known classic rock masterpiecez

After their magnum opus The Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd couldn't quite match the quality of that album with its successor. The title track is a classic, and all the parts of Shine On You Crazy Diamond make and epic synth and guitar - driven track for the ages. But Welcome to the Machine and Hava a Cigar, while not bad, leave me shrugging. The spark that was there in all the tracks of Dark Side (and would later resurface for most of The Wall) is just not anywhere to be found on this album. Which is not to say that it's bad by any means. It is a great album, but really not iconic. 4/5

Outstanding, sounds of the seventies another Masterpiece by Pink Floyd!

Has one of my favorite songs of all time a high 8

Recommended with headphones. I always thought Pink Floyd was for pot smokers and acid droppers. While that is still true, listening to them cover to cover, I can see why people are big fans. The songs are so long but it works well if you are having to listen to a whole album anyways. The transitions between melodies and beats make a long song feel like a journey. The ominous sounds always seem a little strange but the transitions make it all worthwhile. The ambience created is unlike anything you get from other albums. Uniqueness is a 10/10. The music is just fun to listen to. The guy who makes a weird cough noise at 40 secs in “Wish You Were Here” scared this shit out of me. The strange thing is, there’s no one song that I want to replay over and over like I generally do when I hear a song I like. With that being a said I still want to rate this album high because of how different and great sounding it is. This will be on the top of my list for a road trip. 8/10

Space, no one can hear you synthesize in space. This is a heavy sci-fi blues jam album. It’s very atmospheric and keeps a very solid theme throughout. It also does a great job of leading each song into the next making it a nice front to back album which Floyd is known for. It is a bit slow at times and some songs drag a bit with all the solos. I got really confused when the first song played at the end of the album again only to find out that it is a 9 part song spread through the entire album. Kind of took me out of it as I wanted to hear more varied tracks and instead just listened to the second half of a nearly thirty minute song (the album is 45min…) 7/10.

needed to be high

Shine On You Crazy Diamond pts 1-5- First 4 minutes are terribly slow when it does develop the music becomes very engaging and builds atmosphere quite well. For being a relatively slow paced song and for it being fairly long the song is able to maintain being fresh. Weakest point of the song is beginning that struggles to get to the point. Strongest point of the song is towards the end when the saxophone comes in and adds a little extra texture and emotion to an already emotional song. Overall the song is a fitting tribute to a founding member of the band. Welcome to the Machine- I love the way this song opens on this wavy synth and then dramatically strumming what sounds like a 12 string guitar. I love the darker tone of the song and I love that this song veils the criticism of the music industry in a way that it can be interpreted in multiple ways. Over all I think this a much stronger song than Shine on you Crazy Diamond. The various electronic effects combined with the simple guitar parts lends to a very powerful sonic dynamic that is very engaging. Have a Cigar- This song is considerably more to the point than Welcome to the Machine or Shine on you Crazy Diamond. It definitely does a great job of combining the more blues rock oriented base that Pink Floyd has with their more musically progressive tendencies. The vocals are a little inconsistent for me especially when the singer goes into the slightly softer parts. As far as a rock song goes musically it is very strong I didn't notice the weak vocal part in the rest of the song except for the part towards the beginning. Song does kind of randomly end without it feeling like it has reached its natural conclusion. Wish You Were Here- I really love this song. As somebody who isn't really into Pink Floyd this is one song that has seen the occasional play from me. I love the lyrics and think they are very relatable with feelings of alienation. Again I love the acoustic guitar in this song and the use of synths on this song and find that Pink Floyd is quite adept at this combo. I think this one of the strongest songs on this album. Vocally it is one of the strongest as well, it is very simple but packed full of emotion that lends itself well to over all idea of the song. Shine On You Crazy Diamond pts 6-9- The opening on this track is much stronger than on the first Shine on. The mixture of the synths and the electric guitar plus the simple drum beats and all the rest of the layering and textures going on in the beginning is quite masterful. The one thing I think that would make both Shine on's better is if they were back to back as a 25 minute piece instead of split up into 2 halves. Musically this one is much more engaging than the first shine on. I think it was wise to keep this song mostly instrumental. This song does a great job of keeping things engaging musically something that the opening track struggled with a bit. Definitely a strong album 4/5 I think. Would give it another listen even though it isn't in my normal wheelhouse.

Wish You Were Here is one of the greatest songs of all time. But I prefer lyrical Pink Floyd to their instrumental work.

Ein bisschen in die Jahre gekommen, aber immer noch gut.

The middle three songs are fantastic and so are the sung parts of SOYCD but the endless instrumentals that make up half the album don't grip me very much.

I don't want to sound like my Grandad, but shaving 5 minutes off each of these wouldn't have hurt. The songs themselves are recognisably classics, especially Wish You Were Here.

Very good, although I give the edge to Dark Side Of The Moon and The Wall. But still, this is a fantastic record. 8,5 out of 10

Great album

I have tried numerous times to appreciate this album's legacy, but I just think it is overblown. It is a very good album, but that is the extent of it.

A little bit slow, but I definitely enjoyed it.

beautiful and very pretty but Pink Floyd still feel a little one-note, enough so to not entirely impact me all the way through, one day I'll get over it maybe

Nice album frl

This is a great and amazing album! An amazing statement on the music industry and a beautiful love letter to Pink's former member Syd. RIP Syd. Shine on You Crazy Diamond: 9.3/10

I'll start by saying, for the longest time I was NOT a Pink Floyd fan.. I was into heavy music when I was young, on top of being straight edge psychedelic music never really stuck out to me BUT once I got older, I stopped claiming straight edge and I started experimenting and I remember listening to Pink Floyd while I took some mushrooms with a buddy of mine Mitch and that really showed me how amazing this band truly was.. Truly master musicians. NOW onto this album.. Nothing new but greatest honestly lol. The whole album has this great space atmosphere to it. I'd love to own this on vinyl one day. My favorite track on this brief, yet lengthy album is probably 'Wish You Were Here' obviously an amazing, very popular song.. but I also loved the opening track and the closing track, 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond' parts 1-9. Overall: 3.9/5

The first time the band truly went full prog rock

Geiles Album, wenig Lieder, dafür lange. Sozusagen mehrere parts pro Lied. Sehr atmosphärisch

Good. Too spacey in parts. The three middle songs are great.

I liked this more than I thought I would

A classic!

One of the only PF albums I thoroughly enjoy. “Have a Cigar” is probably my favorite song of theirs. 4/5 Would listen again

Pink Floyd is one of the bands that I have never gotten the hype of. I think their music is good, but not the holy grail as it is for lots of people. I have heard most of their catalog from before, but not this album. This album, I actually like more than the other stuff I have heared. I like that it is a bit more classical and not too experimental with bells and whistles all over the place.

posebna jaka nostalgija. lijepa melankolija koja motivira, kako to uspije ne znam...voljela bih da sam ja ta vrsta melankolije, koja radi a ne prokrastinira (someones getting personal okay).

Favorite Tracks: Wish You Were Here Welcome to the Machine Have A Cigar

Big vibez

I really enjoyed this record. Something about it hit all the right notes for me.

A classic Pink Floyd album. While I do think it is very good I still find that it not their best work, at least in my opinion. You only have 5 tracks to appreciate here and while they are all good I only find myself coming back for the title track. When I want to listen to Pink Floyd I'm much more inclined to put on Dark Side of the Moon over this.
