Santana
3/5
Beastie Boys
2/5
A parody of itself at this stage
Manu Chao
1/5
Meh apart form Bongo Bong!
Sade
2/5
2 great tracks - the rest very samey and boring
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
A tough listen as Neil Young's voice just goes through me and clouds everything else
Primal Scream
4/5
A nice change of pace. Really enjoyed it as I often forget about them when Roses etc are to hand.
Portishead
3/5
Glory Box is a great tune but the rest is all very trippy and background music style. Wouldn't make you sit up and take notice and actually gets annoying after awhile
Missy Elliott
1/5
Utter tripe
Missy Elliott
2/5
Better than her other album but only just
Neil Young
2/5
Some good tunes but that voice seems to get worse. For The Turnstiles is the worst vocals I've ever heard.
Steve Earle
3/5
Not my favourite of his but a nice listen
Laibach
2/5
Well that was weird. Didn't know what to make of it. Was interesting but not enjoyable.
Sonic Youth
3/5
Took awhile to get used to. It's along the lines of stuff I like but not quite it.
Dexys Midnight Runners
4/5
Really enjoyable
Green Day
3/5
It was ok, some good stuff but they were never my thing
Sisters Of Mercy
3/5
Surprised by that. Enjoyed the majority. The voice and sound reminded me of Editors and Joy Division - no bad thing!
Boston
4/5
Great fun and a very very good album. Not quite 5 star but ran close!
Pavement
3/5
Had never heard of them. Some good parts, then it got a bit tiresome as it went on.
Pretenders
4/5
Very enjoyable and surprising. Will lead me to listen to them more
Erykah Badu
2/5
A bit forgetful. Not bad, just boring.
Dire Straits
4/5
A very good listen. With one all time classic track and the rest are strong songs. Didn't think there's a song I didn't like. I'll be listening to this album again for sure.
The Pretty Things
3/5
Enjoyed it. Weren't on my 60's radar.
Beastie Boys
3/5
If you took out the vocals/rapping it's actually musically very interesting. Some tracks are very good just ruined by their shouting. Sabotage a classic in any case.
Beatles
5/5
Sometimes I found myself trying to find a reason to not give it 5 stars knowing that they have better but that's wrong. As a standalone, 5 was a no brainer. Very enjoyable and as it's short and snappy, ended up listening to it more.
Dire Straits
4/5
4 brilliant songs and the rest just plodded along and felt tame in comparison. Still a great album and an enjoyable listen.
The Dictators
4/5
I really enjoyed it. Hadn't heard of them before and right up my alley. Some of the lyrics were a bit of shock value.
Michael Jackson
5/5
Just a classic with 3 of the best songs ever along with some other very strong songs. One or two cheesy ones but still great.
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
Very enjoyable, every song offered something different. Time after Time an all time classic.
Frank Zappa
2/5
Some bits ok but it just went on and on. I know it's exploratory but not for me.
Fleetwood Mac
2/5
Really disappointed by it. It's too long and bored me for the most part.
The Byrds
3/5
A nice listen but nothing to get you too excited
Aerosmith
3/5
Took a few listens to get to grips with it. No real stand out track but no bad tracks either. I could see how the sound influenced a lot of other bands in the coming years.
1/5
If I could give less than 1, I would. Painful to listen to. Hard to believe that shit like this exists let alone is on a list 1001 Albums......maybe it's the last album you're supposed to hear before you die so that you want it to end quicker.
Frank Sinatra
3/5
A nice listen but a bit one paced
Jurassic 5
2/5
It was ok, nothing offensive just not my style
The Kinks
4/5
A very good listen, songs complemented each other without being samey. Just lacked a stand out track
New Order
3/5
Feel like we say this a lot but not my favourite of theirs. This was the turning point where it became a bit too dancey for my liking.
The Coral
4/5
The first album in this list that I bought when released. It's a great listen, short snappy and catchy. Every song offers something different.
Louis Prima
4/5
Very enjoyable, some iconic songs and sound.
T. Rex
3/5
Didn't quite do it for me. All felt a bit samey by the end.
Roxy Music
4/5
Very good. Virginia Plains is a cracking song. The Bob medley was good too
Emmylou Harris
2/5
Meh....
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
Enjoyed it, was upbeat and fun with some good beats. Not a clue what the lad was saying obviously.
Eric Clapton
4/5
A great album, very good listen. Not far off 5
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
Enough iconic songs and sound for it to be 5 stars.
The Human League
4/5
That was very good. Finished off with 2 top drawer songs.
The White Stripes
4/5
Just enough crackers to give it a 4 star. 16 songs in total and most I was bored by
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
3/5
Weren't on my radar but I did enjoy it. Just lacked any stand out moments.
Talking Heads
3/5
Never quite too off in terms of pace but not a bad listen.
Iggy Pop
5/5
Thought it was the perfect album. Nothing I didn't like on it.
PJ Harvey
4/5
Really enjoyed. She was always someone that I just never listened to as saw it as too "arty" but that surprised me.
Billie Holiday
3/5
It was nice but just one paced
Butthole Surfers
2/5
A strange listen
Elbow
5/5
Such a good album, just love it.
Cocteau Twins
3/5
Middle of the road stuff. Probably would have liked it more if I listened more. Reminded me of a lot of other bands that came later.
Franz Ferdinand
4/5
Some very good tracks and the sound is very much of its time
The Waterboys
3/5
Weaker on listening than I was expecting. Only a few tracks that I'd actually want to listen to again. Disappointed by it as not a fan of too much of their Irish/folk stuff. But still, any album with such a strong opener grabs your attention
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Lacked a standout track but thoroughly enjoyed the sound. Will listen to it again.
Joy Division
5/5
Love it, love them.
Hole
3/5
3 is prob too low but 4 was too high. Enjoyable, particularly nice to recognise Celebrity Skin and Malibu but the other tracks just didn't kick on in the same way
Funkadelic
4/5
Very enjoyable and surprising. A lot of different sounds and all of them very good.
Elvis Presley
3/5
Love his voice but the songs just didn't grab me, nice and all just felt a bit one paced for the most part. Still enjoyable but middle of the road
Alice In Chains
1/5
Didn't do it for me at all, was wishing for the end. Although I was expecting Triple H to enter the arena at any given moment!
The Police
2/5
Thought that was very poor. Boring.
Every Breath is lovely and all but christ I couldn't wait for it to end
Megadeth
2/5
Found it tough to finish as not my cup of tea. Hard to judge it if you really don't like it.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Stone cold classic. Every track is brilliant
k.d. lang
2/5
It was ok. She has a nice voice but not my taste in music so never grabbed me
Miles Davis
2/5
Oh god it was never ending! Lovely background music but Christ it went on! More of an opus than an album.
The Undertones
4/5
Very enjoyable, fast paced with good punchy lyrics. Love Feargal Sharkey's voice too
Marvin Gaye
3/5
A nice relaxing listen, nothing stands out though. Lyrics felt personal to oul Marv.
Sister Sledge
4/5
Very enjoyable, some great tunes on it
Suede
3/5
3 on a first listen but it's one that would probably grow on me more
The Shamen
3/5
Not my thing but it wasn't bad. Some interesting bits and it was good background music to bop your head to
Deep Purple
4/5
Very nearly a 5 as massively enjoyed
Morrissey
4/5
A very good album. Not too much of a fan of Morrissey but that album was enjoyable, it changed pace and got me excited
Count Basie & His Orchestra
3/5
Good background, feet tapping, head bopping music
ZZ Top
4/5
Very very enjoyable. There's a lot more substance there than I had realised
Love
3/5
It kind of passed me by apart from one or two bits to make me prick an ear. Soft, enjoyable listen though.
Marty Robbins
2/5
Not my thing
R.E.M.
4/5
Upbeat and enjoyable. Started off with a cracker
Pet Shop Boys
3/5
Always found that they had an interesting sound but I can never quite get to like their stuff.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Loved it, went back to the old problem of knowing that they have better albums. Maybe lacked some really big songs on this one
Morrissey
4/5
It's very good, need to listen to him more
Simply Red
3/5
Middle of the road stuff. 2 hits but even they're just above average
Harry Nilsson
4/5
Very good sound and some crackers
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
Enjoyable listen and would be higher rated if I listened more I think.
Common
3/5
Nothing aurally offensive
Paul Simon
4/5
Not far off 5 star, a great album
Sinead O'Connor
2/5
Didn't quite grab me as much as I expected. Apart from "Nothing compares 2 U" there wasn't much to get excited about
Public Enemy
1/5
Just nothing to interest me
Can
2/5
Weird, experimental stuff but it just dragged on. First few tunes were decent but fell off a cliff with boredom by they end
Dinosaur Jr.
3/5
It grew on me after a 2nd listen. I like the rawness
Spiritualized
3/5
Enjoyable, very close to a 4 but would need more listens
The Stooges
4/5
Seriously good music. I wanna be your dog is one of the coolest songs ever
3/5
Enjoyable, a sound very like Talking Heads. You'd either love it or hate it
The Strokes
5/5
5 star all day long. A brilliant album and influenced so many bands that dominated the indie rock era of the noughties
Slayer
1/5
For the most part felt like noise. Couldn't concentrate on it
Bobby Womack
3/5
Middle of the road stuff
Crowded House
4/5
It better the more I listened. 2 real stand out tracks
Jimmy Smith
3/5
Nice relaxing stuff
Jane's Addiction
3/5
1 stand out song (Been caught stealing) but the rest was enjoyable
Cheap Trick
4/5
Very enjoyable, usually don't enjoy Live albums as much but this got me interested
Supertramp
4/5
Very very good. Ended up listening to a lot more of their stuff
Method Man
2/5
Full respect for him as Cheese in The Wire but the genre isn't my thing.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
3/5
Elvis Presley
4/5
Very nearly a 5, still sounds fresh after nearly 70 years
The Soft Boys
4/5
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Had never heard of them but Razorlight obviously have - very similar sound.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
3/5
It was average, nothing too bad but little to get excited over either
Bob Dylan
4/5
I always find it hard to rate albums like this as we obviously don't have the same social environment now than when it was released. Dylan spoke to people, looked at society and said something. I think we miss out on some of the importance of that now but rating the music and how I enjoyed, it's a 4 star. Some of the songs were samey - in rhythm and tone. Overall very enjoyable
Morrissey
3/5
I enjoyed his albums immediately after this more but still enjoyed the sound. Some songs were very similar and seemed to blend into one another (think it's just the tone of his voice as it rarely changes) otherwise nice but don't think I'd be listening again.
Anita Baker
2/5
Apart from Sweet Love, all the other songs sounded the same to me. Nothing bad, just not my cup of tea.
The B-52's
3/5
On a first listen it was fun, upbeat and something different. On a 2nd listen, it didn't excite me as much but some songs were very good (particularly Rock Lobster and Dance the mess around)
Tim Buckley
4/5
I really enjoyed it and listened to it a few times to try to get a full grasp of it. I loved Pleasant Street as it kicked on a bit, wish more if the songs had been a little more upbeat but that's not any criticism. His voice is great, something that really draws you in.
Metallica
4/5
If there were a 3.5 I'd give that. It's better than average and some of it is top notch (3 hits in particular) but the rest just felt like shouting and grrrrrrr! Heavy metal for the sake of it
Eurythmics
2/5
That was a lot of synth. Started poorly, peaked in the middle with Sweet Dreams and tailed off after. Won't be listening again.
The Offspring
3/5
I was surprised that I enjoyed the majority of songs. It's a short, snappy and a simple album but the sound just worked for me.
I might not listen in its entirety but would make me respect them a lot more
Thundercat
2/5
Jesus, that was boring. A tough slog. The intro and 2nd song made me hopeful but then it just turned to same beat, same sound over and over.
The Streets
4/5
Almost a 5.
I love this album, it plays out like a movie. Very song is completely different but carries on the storyline. There are some phenomenal songs on this that I still listen to regularly but it does sound a little dated, naff and clumsy almost 20 years later.
Fairport Convention
5/5
Thought it was brilliant. Had never heard of them but loved each and every track.
8 songs so it's a short album but every song offers something different. Her voice is amazing, it holds your attention. 'Who knows where the time goes' is a simply stunning song. But I loved something from every track. I'll be listening to this a lot more
Jungle Brothers
2/5
Didn't interest me in the slightest. Not my scene
Mike Ladd
2/5
Another that wasn't to my tastes so never got me interested
Bebel Gilberto
3/5
Hard to fairly judge as some songs ate hidden in Spotify but I'd respect the talent from what I did listen to.
The Everly Brothers
3/5
It was nice easy listening. All felt very familiar (even the songs I hadn't heard before). Might be higher rated if it was longer and tracks deviated a bit but hey......it's 60 years ago
Cocteau Twins
3/5
Very relaxing to listen to but that's about all it did for me. Hadn't a clue what they were going on about but it sounded nice. Won't be seeking them out again though.
Beatles
5/5
It's a stupidly good album. No need to say more really.
Emmylou Harris
3/5
Enjoyable even though not to my taste
The Jesus And Mary Chain
4/5
Took me a 2nd listen to decide whether I liked it or not. It's got enough to warrant more listens. I like the laid back style of vocals, it's really interesting.
Duran Duran
3/5
Some good tunes but the style annoyed me after awhile
Madonna
3/5
The Modern Lovers
3/5
LL Cool J
2/5
Thin Lizzy
4/5
It's a great collection of songs but loses a star as I don't think a Live or compilation album can be judged the same as studio albums in their own right. Especially as this "Live" album was taken from 3 different concerts. The songs themselves were great, but I prefer the studio versions in nearly all cases
Tori Amos
3/5
Nick Drake
3/5
Incubus
3/5
Surprised to have enjoyed most of the songs. Some very good bass and rhythm
Mj Cole
2/5
Not my scene, could have been 1 song long and I would have gotten what it was all about
Circle Jerks
3/5
It was nuts. Original album is 15mins long with 14 songs packed into it! Love some of it, other bits just shouting "Red Tape"
Alanis Morissette
5/5
A thoroughly brilliant album. So so many great songs and iconic sounding ones. Her voice is so distinctive and she uses it so well to weave through the lyrics.
The Temptations
2/5
Didn't do it for me. I was excited when I saw the album came up but most of the songs were flat and left me feeling disinterested
Cornershop
3/5
A very strange mix but I enjoyed for the most part.
XTC
4/5
Really enjoyable and new to me. Reminded me of Jellyfish.
Will be listening to more for sure.
Marilyn Manson
1/5
Listened with interest to change my perception of him but ended up wishing for it to end. Not my thing
Arrested Development
3/5
I really enjoyed this album but don't think it deserves more than a 3. Kept me bopping but was samey by the end.
Glad I listened and that I know there's another Arrested Development
Stan Getz
3/5
Nice background music, enjoyed it
AC/DC
4/5
An enjoyable album but all the songs just seemed to sound the same after awhile. They're a great band but very one dimensional
The Louvin Brothers
2/5
Ya.....don't know what to say about that album. Very much of its time and genre so I didn't dislike it but not much to get interested in with it.
Lambchop
3/5
It was a strange listen. Some tracks were really interesting but others just bored me. A sound similar to Death Cab etc
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
I generally like this sound but just didn't seem to click with me. I don't really like his voice either. The Killing Moon is a great track but overall fell flat
Alice Cooper
3/5
This really surprised me - particularly the first few tracks. I was really enjoying it but then it got a bit weird lyrically.
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
Hmmm.
I've also found it hard to match the adulation that people have towards Bruce. I've always known there was something but that I just wasn't "getting" it. This is one album that made me think that I wasn't missing out on anything. It offers very little. Heavily centred around the stories within the lyrics but just read a book if that's what you like!
The Prodigy
4/5
I have to say that I enjoyed it. My tastes have changed since I first liked it but still got me interested. Some of the tracks are a bit long and laboured but 3 absolute classics too.
3/5
Started off well with 2 great tracks then just seemed to slow down and almost get boring.
Fun Lovin' Criminals
4/5
I really enjoyed this, maybe I was just in the mood for something funky and upbeat. A great listen in any case.
5/5
I don't consider myself an Oasis fan but this is a great album. Some ridiculously good songs on it that still sound fresh 25 years later.
Lou Reed
3/5
Love the idea of a concept album. Many of the songs are nice but I won't be listening in again.
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
4/5
Loved this! So gritty and with serious balls. Each track offered aural pleasure. Not quite a 5 star as lacked a real stand out track or two but seriously good.
Everything But The Girl
3/5
A weird listen. Great voice obviously but the beat and tempo got annoying after awhile
Fishbone
3/5
A fun listen. I really couldn't work out what genre it supposed to be but good nonetheless
Wire
4/5
Really enjoyed this. Great raw sound and rhythm. Will be added to my playlist for sure.
3/5
Prog rock really isn't my thing. It's lovely to listen to but doesn't excite me. Just meanders along for the most part.
My Bloody Valentine
3/5
I can see how they influenced so many bands. Just didn't grab me as much as I expected as they were always on my radar.
Queen
4/5
I LOVE Queen.
But I think this is only a 4 star.
Some very cringey songs on it, as there always is on their albums, but felt there wasn't enough strength in the tracks to warrant more than 4. Killer Queen, Now I'm Here, Lily of the Valley and Laps of the Gods revisited are amazing.
Dizzee Rascal
3/5
It's an interesting album for someone not a fan of Hip/Hop or Garage etc. Some great beats throughout and catchy tunes. I found myself more interested in it than I thought I would be.
The Gun Club
3/5
A new one to me and an enjoyable listen. One that might score higher the more I listened. I liked the mix of genres
Air
1/5
Uch......a soundtrack - really? Pointless including something like this on a 1001 list. Each track was penned to accompany a scene so totally lost as a standalone piece.
The Clash
5/5
It's almost a 5 star album by default. Has the reputation, has no weak song, some hits, iconic songs and every song offers something different. I just came away from listening to it having not loved the experience - really weird.
Faith No More
3/5
Enjoyed it overall. Epic is.....epic!
Nothing else really stood out (apart from cover of War Pigs) but it was surprisingly good listen
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
4/5
Really enjoyable high energy album. Will for sure listen to them again
Judas Priest
3/5
It's not a genre that I fully subscribe to usually but I did enjoy this. It's got a good tempo throughout and keeps you rocking! I probably won't listen to much more to them but hey, now I know!
Kanye West
5/5
He's not my cup of tea personally and the genre is usually one that doesn't awaken much in me but......I think this album is genius. It flows so well, it grabs you at times, keep you wanting more, great beats, great use of samples and styles of music. Just love it
Roxy Music
3/5
It was easy listening. Nothing to get me overly excited.
The Cure
4/5
A great album with a really good sound and atmosphere. Some of their greats on here too. I know not to everyone's taste but works for me
Grant Lee Buffalo
3/5
Inoffensive. I listened to it and almost immediately forgot it all pretty much straight away. Still a nice listen though
Eagles
3/5
They're their own Genre really. It's lovely to listen to, just nothing to get too excited about.
Van Morrison
5/5
It's a classic of the genre. Some beautiful songs on this (Into the Mystic, Moondance, And it stoned me, everyone, glad tidings)
The Rolling Stones
3/5
2 classic tracks but apart from that, nothing strong enough to warrant more listens.
Randy Newman
2/5
I've always found him a strange artist. Could never quite get to grips with what people loved so much but he's unique so that's one thing I suppose.
The Byrds
4/5
A lovely listen
4/5
Really enjoyed that. She's always been on my intrigue list and not disappointed
Isaac Hayes
2/5
.....another soundtrack. Not for me. A waste of space on a list.
The Monkees
3/5
It was only ok, nothing overly exciting or that I haven't heard before in some way
Paul McCartney and Wings
5/5
I thought about only giving a 4 star rating but then I looked back at the absolute quality of BOTR, Jet, Let me Roll it and Nineteen..... just top notch, best in class songs.
Queen
4/5
I LOVE Queen but their albums are always a strange mix. Just 4 star for me as the quality is still really high
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
4/5
Really enjoyable, is a definite to be listened to again
Metallica
2/5
Utter tripe for the most part
Finley Quaye
3/5
A nice listen. "Even after all" and "love gets sweeter" are great tunes, were stuck in my head for the day
Flamin' Groovies
4/5
Very enjoyable listen, it's on the rotation
Magazine
4/5
Very enjoyable. I'd never heard of them before but thought the sound was great. Will def add to the rotation.
Elton John
3/5
It was EJ so was always going to have that sound and some lovely tunes. Apart from Tiny Dancer, it just lacked a wow factor
Madonna
3/5
Some good tracks on it, just didn't overly excite often enough. She's got a very distinctive voice which is great.
Randy Newman
4/5
Really enjoyed this surprisingly. I always found him a bit tough to enjoy but this hit home. Great lyrics and storytelling. I'll need to go back over his stuff to pick out the bits I like now
Elliott Smith
3/5
Was a new artist for me but having read up on him, it's obvious how he influenced those that namechecked him as an influence. Was a nice listen, just never made me stand up and take note at any point
Pixies
5/5
A brilliant album. I need to listen to them more but they're just never high on my list for some reason
Wu-Tang Clan
1/5
Not my thing at all.
10cc
4/5
Really fun album. Almost self aware and speaking directly to the listener. Will be sure to switch it on when in need of something fun and upbeat
David Crosby
3/5
A nice listen, one to go back over again.
Guns N' Roses
5/5
It's a great album but not one that I entirely liked and probably wouldn't seek out to listen in its entirety again.
However, with Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child of Mine and Nightrain all on one album it can't be anything but 5 star.
George Michael
3/5
Apart from title track, nothing to get overly interested in. Meandered along
Pixies
5/5
A fabulous album.....another from Pixies.
Can't fault anything with it. Has balls with some literally Gigantic songs. Where is my mind is an all time classic song.
Jane Weaver
3/5
I feel I missed something from this album, it was a good sound but couldn't quite understand why it would have been on the list as it's so recent. Didn't really sound too different from a lot of other similar sounding artists. Will have to listen a few more times. Enjoyable nonetheless, just not "wow, this is great"
Arcade Fire
5/5
A superb album. Has everything you'd want music to be.
Ian Dury
3/5
Quite a unique sound and wasn't entirely sure if I was enjoying it but it interested me nonetheless. His lyrics draw you in but the delivery of them can become quite samey.
Happy Mondays
4/5
I had always put the Mondays in a bit of a box and thought they were more novelty than substance. Delighted to have been able to correct that. 'Pills' is a great listen, with some great hits
Grateful Dead
3/5
Middle of the road music. Nothing overly exciting but not bad either
The Verve
4/5
A 4 by default as some great anthems on it. Still unsure about some of the other tracks - can't work out if they're filler or good album tracks.
R.E.M.
5/5
I dithered whether this was a 4 or 5 star album but fuck it, 5 amazing tracks on it so deserves it
Kraftwerk
2/5
A strange listen but kind of what I was expecting from them. One I wouldn't be seeking out again
Kacey Musgraves
3/5
There's nothing wrong with it and perfectly nice but just down get why it's on the list. She's got a lovely voice but don't see what's any different to multiple other artists in a similar vain.
The Kinks
4/5
A great listen. Some weaker tracks so perhaps could and should have been 5 Star
Sarah Vaughan
3/5
A nice listen and glad I got to hear such a good voice
Elis Regina
2/5
It was such a lovely listen.
But......it's a compilation so loses some stars for that.
Nightmares On Wax
3/5
Very chilled, enjoyed it
The Slits
3/5
A good sound. Really enjoyed "Spend, Spend, Spend"
Led Zeppelin
4/5
A great listen. Just lacked some of the real balls out tracks that you'd become accustomed to with Zeppelin in later albums. There was lots of instrumental/jamming tracks (albeit they were still great)
B.B. King
4/5
Really enjoyed it. He knows how to interact with the crowd and the sound is great. Still don't think "Live" albums should be included but hey - the fuck do I know
Cat Stevens
5/5
I smiled when I saw this was today's album. It's what music should do - evoke emotion so it's a 5 star for me.
Gang Starr
3/5
Not my thing but it was quite relaxing to listen to
The Stooges
3/5
Enjoyable but nothing really jumped out at me as wow
Queens of the Stone Age
3/5
I think further listens would make me appreciate it more but just a 3 for now
Minor Threat
3/5
Some of caught my interest but it was fast and a lot to take in
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
A very strange listen. Not one that I could say that I enjoyed
The Byrds
3/5
Didn't quite do it for me although a good sound. Think I'd need more to start to really like it
CHIC
3/5
Apart from Good Times, it kind of bored me. Very repetitive.
Talking Heads
4/5
I like them and the sound a lot so maybe 4 is a bit high but fuck it, I like it.
Lucinda Williams
4/5
I think this caught me in a good mood as I really enjoyed when I don't usually like Country style. Beautiful voice and tempo throughout.
Slipknot
1/5
Why does he have to shout so much, Jesus wept!
Pulp
4/5
Very enjoyable. Helped changed my view of Pulp. Will listen more
The Pogues
3/5
It was more enjoyable than I expected but still not too much of substance
The Stranglers
3/5
Found it a tough listen. Was really expecting to love it. Peaches is a knockout though
Tom Waits
3/5
A nice listen. I'm always torn on Tom Waits. Sometimes I love him and other times thinks it's mad an unlistenable.
Dexys Midnight Runners
5/5
I loved it and now love them. Such a unique sound and so upbeat but with balls and substance.
Hüsker Dü
2/5
A strange listen. nothing made me sit up and take notice but obviously, they've influenced bands to follow. That singing style doesn't appeal to me either.
Rush
3/5
Rush were always on my list to get to. Glad this popped up as gave me the excuse to dip in. It left me feeling a little flat, good prog rock but just not for me.
Dr. Dre
1/5
Not my type of music. some of the beats were foot tapping but ruined by lyrics. it's like what you'd get if you asked a 12 year old to write some rap lyrics.
Ray Price
3/5
Nice easy listening from a simpler time
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
Very nearly a 5 star but it's just too long imo. Could have knocked off a few weaker songs and would have been a phenomenon
Buena Vista Social Club
3/5
Atmospheric and relaxing to listen to
Christine and the Queens
4/5
It's a good listen. Have always liked her/them. Nothing to really grab me but would listen again for sure (background music)
The Young Gods
3/5
A mad listen and different. Wouldn't go there again but glad I know there's a French rock scene like that!
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
Loved it. Added to rotation
Big Black
3/5
Started off strange but got betterm I liked it but felt it lacked a hook on many songs.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
Some classics, others very enjoyable but way way way way too long. Glad it ended
Peter Frampton
3/5
Enjoyable listen. I still have a thing against "live" albums on this 1001 list. Especially when taken from multiple concerts.
3/5
Middle of the road country but very listenable.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Pure class
Various Artists
3/5
Enjoyable and good timing on Xmas Eve!
Bob Dylan
5/5
Yup, I see it now. I get it. Great album, had balls but also moments of reflection. Top drawer music.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo
4/5
A beautiful album. Really made me stop and listen.
The Beach Boys
2/5
Didn't do it for me. Even as a short album, just seemed to drag on.
Sonic Youth
3/5
Didn't do it for me overall. I was hopeful but it just never kicked on
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
It was only ok. Won't be listening again
The Cure
3/5
Only ok.
Turbonegro
3/5
I thought it was fun. 4 is maybe a bit high and 3 is low but 3 it is. Would rate higher if I listened more I think.
Ray Charles
4/5
A lovely album and would have been so strange at the time but still essentially an album of covers
Liz Phair
4/5
A gem of a find for me. Really enjoyable. Ended up listening a few times and will add to rotation.
Nirvana
4/5
It was good, just not great in my opinion. Maybe it's reputation clouded my judgement. Had even considered a 3 but 4 star is probably best.
Kanye West
2/5
Didn't like it. 2 good tracks.
Justice
4/5
Enjoyed it a lot and was a new one for me. Some crackers and the rest were of a decent upbeat standard to tap a foot to
Caetano Veloso
3/5
Nice bit of Bossa Nova
Ute Lemper
3/5
A nice album with some top notch musicians. Just wouldn't be listening too often
Neu!
4/5
Yup, that did it for me. Was even considering a 5 star! Love the 2 sided idea and they worked so well together. Just top drawer musicianship all around.
Thelonious Monk
2/5
Gentle ambient music but feel like I've heard it all before. Can often be the case with early albums, that we don't appreciate their impact
The Band
4/5
Really enjoyable, went down a rabbit hole vadter listening.
a-ha
3/5
2 hits but the rest was very samey and of its time
Wilco
3/5
A nice listen but nothing stood out. Passed me by a bit
Kraftwerk
2/5
Doesn't do it for me. Monotonous stuff
Elastica
3/5
A very interesting listen as it was such a success when released. Didn't do much for me though. Nothing wrong with it per se, just didn't excite me enough. Had some balls in places but probably wouldn't listen again.
Joni Mitchell
4/5
Really enjoyed. She was always on the list to explore more and glad I got the chance
Coldplay
4/5
This was an tough one to judge. Some great anthemic songs that would normally mean it's a 5 star rating but I just couldn't do it! The more I listened, the weaker some songs sounded so 4 is probably fairest in my mind.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
4/5
Yup, this was good.
Apart from 'American Girl', it lacked some wow tracks
The Who
3/5
Another Live album on this list when it shouldn't be.
I really like The Who but this is a collection of songs that is neither here nor there. Pointless
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
4/5
Very enjoyable without getting too excited. Just a good piece of Americana music. Would stick them on again (CS&N at least)
Robbie Williams
4/5
There are some all time classics on this album but some of the album tracks are weaker and don't stand the test of time. He was always a bit of a jokey figure but when I looked back on his catalogue, he's had a lot of good songs and hits
Baaba Maal
2/5
A nice listen with some toe tapping but not one I'd want to listen to again. 2 is probably low but hey ho
Teenage Fanclub
4/5
Very enjoyable. Think I'd like even more the more I listened.
The Rolling Stones
5/5
Pure class. A stunning opener and you're kept glued to it throughout. It hasn't dated one bit.
Beatles
5/5
An easy 5 stars.
Iconic album. Must have been amazing for people when this double album was released......but it is too long as a standalone album.
I'm not complaining by any means but imagine if they chose the 15 best tracks - even wower!
Terence Trent D'Arby
3/5
Was really enjoying it and then it just died off. Some good tunes and glad I listened
Garbage
3/5
I was looking forward to listening but didn't interest me too much unfortunately.
Aerosmith
4/5
I varied between 3 & 4 stars on this but it was fun enough to get 4. There are some interesting songs
Amy Winehouse
3/5
Maybe I'm missing something but I found it boring and quite one paced.
Back to Black addressed that but Frank didn't do it for me.
Travis
4/5
Just a 4. Some good standout tracks with some great hooks. Would listen again but not too often - I get it.
Neneh Cherry
2/5
Didn't do it for me.
The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy
3/5
I'm surprised that I enjoyed a lot of it. Some good lyrics that intrigued me.
Screaming Trees
4/5
They weren't on my radar but I really enjoyed it. Took a 2nd listen to get to grips with it and will be listening more!
The Mars Volta
3/5
I found it very interesting. Didn't justify higher than 3 though. Might have if I had more listens.
Air
4/5
Very enjoyable with some greats.
Tangerine Dream
1/5
Sounded like BBC sound effects Vol I & II.
Or Ross Geller's Keyboard sounds.
Boring
Hanoi Rocks
3/5
Enjoyable but a bit cringey in parts. Could only listen to some of it as some songs were hidden
SAULT
4/5
A new one to me. Thought it was excellent for the first half and tailed off then. Love the anonymous idea
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
3/5
Lively and nice atmospheric background music
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
A brilliant album with some classics. What more could you ask
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
An iconic enough sound to be 4 star
Deee-Lite
3/5
It's not my thing but "Groove" was a nice surprise
The Triffids
3/5
It was interesting and with more listens I'd be able to pick out more that I like. As a standalone, it's only a 3 star. Lacks any really wow track
Genesis
3/5
Prog rock can often be hit and miss for me. This did both.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
I've started to like Bruce a lot more through listen to his albums on this list. Or at least I've started to know why he was so celebrated. This was a good listen but didn't hit the heights often enough. Still good, just not great.
Pavement
4/5
Yup.....that was good! Right up my street. Will def be listening much more. It might get a 5 star from me then (only thing holding it back was lack of standout tracks but overall quality is there)
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Really enjoyable. A silky smooth voice from good oul Mary O'Brien!
Keith Jarrett
5/5
Loved it.
Goes against what I said about Live albums being a cop out for inclusion. Never thought an hour of just piano could hold my attention so well.
Steely Dan
4/5
Had just enough to offer for a 4 star. Enjoyable but was just hoping anw waiting for more hooks.
Jefferson Airplane
4/5
Very enjoyable. Somebody to love and White Rabbit both iconic songs
The Velvet Underground
5/5
Yup, that does it for me. A sound ahead of it's time. Some absolutely brilliant songs and any others are still of a very good standard. Each song offers something to take away.
Lorde
4/5
She's got something about her has young Lorde. A unique voice.
Merle Haggard
2/5
Sorry Merle, didn't do it for me. I hate this genre. It's not quite Country, it's old school Country. But nah, 2 stars cos I'm it's not total shit
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
Musically would have been a 4 star but Neil Young's voice just turns me right off.
Sigur Rós
3/5
Lovely music and all that but I just didn't click with it. Didn't evoke anything in me. Won't be listening again.
Björk
3/5
It's decent but wouldn't be seeking it out for future listens. Cool that her voice is unique but can get annoying.
The Chemical Brothers
2/5
I would have loved this when I was 16. Not now. Repetitive and uninspiring
Korn
2/5
Not my cup of tea
FKA twigs
4/5
A new artist for me and she intrigued me. Surprisingly enjoyed it.
Manic Street Preachers
4/5
On a first listen I was very excited as I'd had such a bad run of albums. It's got balls and some great tracks. But on a second listen, it didn't hold up as a whole. Still very good, just not great
Leonard Cohen
3/5
A great voice and some great lyrics but fell flat for me.
Eagles
5/5
A great listen. Really enjoyable
Bob Dylan
5/5
Has to be a 5 with 3 all time greats on it. All songs offer something. I'm becoming more of a Dylan fan though properly listen to his stuff.
Fleetwood Mac
5/5
An easy 5 star. The great tunes just kept on coming. Hard to believe you'd be able to pack that much in.
Jeff Buckley
5/5
I loved it. I know it's not for everyone as come across as a whiney voice but it works for me. Change of pace in the songs keeps you interested.
Jamiroquai
3/5
Meh. Was funky and all but all a bit samey. Can't understand why there were tracks that were so long when it was just repetitive.
Waylon Jennings
3/5
It had something enjoyable about it. Something fun. Wouldn't seek it out as not my taste
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Very good. Little Wing was the standout track for me.
Johnny Cash
3/5
A pointless inclusion on the list. Music is ok but why more live albums?
The Prodigy
2/5
Just not to my taste anymore. Felt so old listening to it
Nick Drake
3/5
It was nice but didn't wow me
The Who
4/5
A very good listen. A lot of rawness. My Generation and The Kids are alright are all time greats. The covers do take some gloss off it overall.
Adam & The Ants
3/5
This ended up being a really strange listen. On one side I should have liked the sound but I just couldn't get to grips with it. Didn't enjoy it but couldn't work out exactly why.
Amy Winehouse
5/5
It's brilliant. A masterpiece of her life's work.
So we'll sung and produced. Tears Dry on Their Own is my favourite.
Adele
4/5
I could picture lots of people giving 5 as it's got some big hits but the substance isn't there for me. It's good and she's got a great voice but she knows it and often over uses it. Gets boring after awhile.
The Magnetic Fields
3/5
Jesus ...I mean really. Almost 3 hours?
It's cool that people try to do some different but this got annoying. Too long to enjoy the songs. It felt like a chore.
Most of the songs themselves are nice listens but nothing to get you excited too much. They could have picked 15 of the best songs and it could have been a very good album.
Queen
5/5
I love it and them. This album has it all. It's got all time greats, good rock songs and a lot of fun tunes too. Still don't know what "I'm in love with my car" is all about though Roger.
Talking Heads
3/5
I'd usually like Talking Heads but this just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was my mood but fell flat
David Bowie
4/5

3/5
Underwhelming. Maybe reputation affects it but this offered very little
Pulp
4/5
A very good album. Has fun to it and some great tunes.
Gary Numan
3/5
This varied between me liking it and then thinking it was too repetitive. Some songs sounds exactly the same. Observer and Cars for example. Wouldn't listen to the album again so it's only a 3
MC Solaar
2/5
Not my scene
Depeche Mode
3/5
Meh, didn't do too much for me but not shite
Ananda Shankar
2/5
Pointless having the crux of the album with covers
The The
4/5
This is the Day is such a good track. It kind of casts a shadow over everything else. A very good album and will listen again for sure.
The Young Rascals
4/5
Funky, was a cool sound and surprised me.
Spiritualized
4/5
Thoroughly enjoyed that. It's why this project is so great, being presented with music you've never heard of before. I'd stick this on again for sure
The Lemonheads
3/5
Maybe a 3 is a bit low but I felt it lacked a really stand out track (apart from the cover of Mrs.Robinson)
The Byrds
4/5
A sound very much of it's time but no less enjoyable.
The Electric Prunes
3/5
Middle of the road. Didn't get me overly excited
Brian Eno
2/5
Had always wondered if Brian Eno was any good. It bored me for the most part. Maybe I just don't get it.
Bob Dylan
5/5
Brilliant album.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Good, just another Live album but I suppose this is and was always different
Bill Evans Trio

3/5
It's good and has balls but really?.....another Live album. A waste of time
Spacemen 3
3/5
Didn't do it for me.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
Piss poor. Awful voice that's getting worse and more annoying
Peter Tosh
2/5
Nah.... repetitive and not to my taste
Devendra Banhart
3/5
A weird listen. I've heard his more upbeat stuff in the past and enjoyed. This never took off although it was nice
TV On The Radio
3/5
This passed me by on original release and would be very much my sound - just didn't click with it now which is a shame.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
Nice but just didn't kick on
Todd Rundgren
4/5
Really enjoyable, found a surprise at every turn
Fever Ray
2/5

Lauryn Hill
3/5
Disappointed in this. Had always thought that it must be wow
The White Stripes
4/5
God listen and some nostalgia
Nitin Sawhney
3/5
It was interesting but that's about as far as it went

5/5
Yup, that was great. Such a unique voice and coolness

A strange listen after so long. Quirky but not enough of wow tracks
Dusty Springfield

Black Flag
3/5
I like this punky, fast paced sound. This just didn't hit the heights enough
The Flaming Lips
4/5
Very enjoyable. They'd always been a band thay I knew I'd like....but not love

Ya, it was ok. Enjoyable
Syd Barrett
3/5
A strange collection of songs. Didn't do much for me but was nice
Led Zeppelin
5/5
Balls out brilliance
Pink Floyd
5/5
It's got to be a 5 as there's so much of an iconic vibe to it. Some great tunes but also so much to keep you interested
Norah Jones
4/5
A lovely listen and a beautiful voice
Ash
4/5
Ya, I just love their sound. A winner for me

Many sides to that album (literally).
Not all of them to my tastes.
Black Sabbath
3/5
I liked it for the most part, just didn't love it.
The Fall
5/5
I'm biased cos I think The Fall are genius. Mad genius tjst doesn't always work but I really enjoyed this. Drums and bass are so good.
Johnny Cash
4/5
It's a karaoke album for the most part but no less enjoyable. His voice sounds so good and really carries the emotion.
Fiona Apple
3/5
Don't think I quite got it. It was interesting but so what. Why's it on this list. Sounds like every other album from last few years
Primal Scream
4/5
Enjoyable without setting the world alight
Lou Reed
5/5
Loved it. Great sound and some iconic songs
Leonard Cohen
3/5
It was a nice listen but past his best at this stage. Anyone else and you'd say it was shite
Barry Adamson
1/5
What was the point? Like really, why?
Settled on a 4 star. First half of album is blockbuster and 5 star but let down badly by weak songs in second half.
Aretha Franklin
5/5
I thouroughly enjoyed that. Sound amazing tracks and everything else had so much soul and feeling
Depeche Mode
3/5
Apart from Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence, the rest was meh
Stevie Wonder
3/5
A nice listen. Good tempo but just meandered along.
N.W.A.
2/5
Not my scene at all
Haircut 100
3/5
Middle of the road new wave. Not sure why it's on the list
4/5
A historic moment in music but still a live album.
The Killers
4/5
Hmmm. Was tempted to give it a 5 as I still think it offers so much. So many anthemic songs.
But.....the weak songs are very bad so takes the shine off the whole album
Kendrick Lamar
2/5
I see why he's so popular now, but it's just not for me
Tortoise
2/5
That was weird
Bonnie Raitt
3/5
Beautiful voice but took a second listen to decide it wasn't shite!
The Flaming Lips
4/5
I really like their sound but it rarely gets me overly interested. Only 2 tunes on this that really grabbed me but overall, a lovely listen
Nina Simone
5/5
5 is possibly high but I bloody loved it and her. Such depth and soul to it all.
The Jam
4/5
That was a fun listen. 3 storming tracks
The Boo Radleys
4/5

1/5
Nope, just a rubbish listen. Offered me nothing
Mercury Rev
3/5

Björk
3/5

Bonnie "Prince" Billy
4/5
I got something from this. Some sort of connection. It wasn't amazing but it struck a chord

3/5
That was weird. Oul Serge has a right hard on for whoever Melody is.....the fucking weirdo.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
I love Creedence. This was very good, just not great
The Doors
5/5
It's a fucking brilliant album. Sounds so ahead of it's time. Reminded me of The Black Keys as it was so fresh sounding. (Caveat - 2 songs I wouldn't look forward to are the Spy and Indian Summer)
The Isley Brothers
3/5
Apart from the 2 obvious hits, it was nice but nothing overly interesting
Crosby, Stills & Nash
3/5
Decent album, never quite grabbed me though apart from Suite
David Bowie
3/5
It was ok. Obviously interesting to see how an artist develops over such a long career and how their sound changes. If this album was from anyone else, it wouldn't be near this list....and probably shouldn't be by right.
The Damned
3/5
I like the energy, it's my sort of thing. Just didn't quite fully click with me for some reason
The Beach Boys
5/5
It's a stone cold classic isn't it. Still a mood lifter no matter how many times you hear it.
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
It was nice. A few more listens and I think it would grow on me more.
Radiohead
3/5
Radiohead were always a band that I meant to get into and listen more but I never got around to it. Now's my chance.....great! But wait, is this it?.....really! I know Kid A was a turning point but Jesus, what's all the fuss about. It was whiney and slow and boring. The opening bars of National Anthem are the only redeeming thing on the album.
The Yardbirds
4/5
An enjoyable glimpse into the 60's scene. Would listen again and probably enjoy even more
Hole
4/5
This was good. Had balls! Think I was just in the mood for something like this so 4 might be too generous
Charles Mingus
2/5
Not for me
Dennis Wilson
4/5
Hugely enjoyable. A big sound and I think I'd grow to like it even more
Iron Butterfly
3/5
I suppose it was exactly as intended. A bit groovy! Just not overly entertaining

4/5
Really enjoyable but I suspect that it's not very good. Shows you what mood can do yo affect

Some nice bits, but very hard to know if it's good, bad or I'm just indifferent and nodding along
Deerhunter
3/5
It was ok. Nice.

5/5
As much as I don't like the brothers, they knocked it out of the park with this. Hard to believe it's a debut album. Brilliant

3/5
Its not my personal taste but I have a grudging respect for Public Enemy after this and some of their other stuff. It's unique and offers a different take.

4/5
A cool album. Not 5 but close
Bert Jansch

Suicide
2/5
First 3 tracks were ok, then it went south. I like the post punk but can't deal with electronica
/Synth heavy stuff.
Coldplay
3/5
This was where it started to go downhill for them. 1st album and 1st half of this are very good. 2nd half of this album and everything they've produced since has been piss poor. No feeling. Same boring sound
Blur
4/5
Some all time great tracks but so so much filler now in hindsight. I was disappointed by this
Antony and the Johnsons
5/5
Inadored this album when it first came out and I still do. Just think it's got so much to offer. Fistful of Love is an epic

Dwight Yoakam
3/5
Inoffensive country.....again

Fleet Foxes
4/5
Agonised over giving this a 5. I love it and have for years. But on reflection, it's a bit samey and after one listen I'm content. Wouldn't dip back for more too soon. Doesn't kick on so has to be a 4
Shack
3/5
Can't understand why this is on the list. It's nice but so what?
The Allman Brothers Band
4/5
Live albums shouldn't be on this list......but I'm glad this was. Really enjoyable as a piece but come on - "live"? Recorded over 3 nights, pffff
The Smiths
3/5
Apart from the 1st track, it didn't overly excite me

Love

Like a lot of these older albums, very much of its time. Hard to connect with it or like it

So boring and one paced. Even the hits felt fairly vanilla. It's only getting 3 cos those hits are iconic (but not my taste)

5/5

Songhoy Blues
4/5

Fiona Apple
3/5
It was a nice listen but also.....so what? Why's it on the list, why's it special? Very samey all the way through to my earballs
Pet Shop Boys
2/5
Awful stuff. Go west redeemed it from getting 1 star because at least that has some sort of catchiness
Pink Floyd
2/5

It's a 5 all day long.
Just brilliance from the very first time I heard it all those years ago. Still excites me to hear it again now.

The Chemical Brothers
4/5
This got me in a good mood.
George Michael
4/5
Enjoyable and surprising.
Iggy Pop
4/5
One of the great things to come out of this is a new found admiration for Iggy. But this album just fell short of the other wows
Venom
2/5
Horseshit. Only got 2 cos at least they give a fuck
Cypress Hill
2/5
It's not my scene at all so I can't judge if it's good or not. But I didn't enjoy
Roxy Music
4/5
A tale of 2 sides to an album. 1st half brilliant, 2nd not so much
SZA
3/5
It was grand but again why's it on the list? Offered nothing different from much r&b that I've heard before

1/5
Nonsense. Repetitive bullshit.
How in god's name can this be enjoyable. It's just a background irritant.

The xx
5/5
This was brilliant. Particularly the first half - just wow.
Overall, such a cool, funky and relaxed sound whilst still having heart and balls. Loved it
Beyoncé
3/5
I just don't get all the hype. It was very ordinary. Over produced and relying on her singing at highest octave with a bass drum banging. Felt that x 20 tracks
The Mamas & The Papas
4/5
2 all time great tracks but the rest felt so below that unfortunately. Very enjoyable though
Dirty Projectors

Became indistinguishable by the end and I couldn't wait for it to finish
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Nope, didn't do anything for me. River is a beauty though

Batshit crazy but intriguing. It's still objectively shite but at least they were trying something different. I respect that at least.
Lana Del Rey
3/5
A strange album as it just passed me by. Think her style is like that though. Not very memorable
The Clash
4/5
Usually right up my street but this didn't do to much for me surprisingly

3/5
3 is generous
Jeru The Damaja
2/5
It just isn't my thing. I'm comfortable knowing I just don't enjoy this genre
The Pogues
4/5
4 is generous. It's got an all timer but the rest is just the usual trad stuff with a twist. Doesn't do it for me
The Saints
4/5
I know 4 is generous but I welcomed the energy of it. Was a welcome change after a bad run!
Big Star
4/5
This was great, really enjoyable. An all timer in Thirteen
David Holmes
2/5
Sounds very very dated now
Blondie
5/5
A properly good album. All timers and just a good overall sound
The Icarus Line

It had balls and was half decent. Not sure why something like this would be on the list. There was nothing different
Badly Drawn Boy
4/5
Mixed feelings on this but just did enough to warrant 4
Tricky
3/5
A nice relaxing album. One track stood out, the rest was background
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Surprised that this wasn't wow. Had just presumed
Nirvana
5/5
Too many good songs for it not to be 5. It's a banger
Paul McCartney
3/5
Apart from "Maybe I'm Amazed", which is an all timer and fav of mine, it doesn't offer too much. By his standards, it's disappointing

A nice listen but why in god's name is it on the list?
The Good, The Bad & The Queen
3/5
Nice sound, good bass. No idea why it's on the list

Nonsense from a fake doctor!

John Prine
3/5

Ray Charles
4/5
A nice listen. Nothing massively unexpected though
The Beau Brummels
3/5
Standard 60s fare.
Sugar
4/5
A decent sound, energy and rawness to it. Think I'd grow to like it more
Ms. Dynamite
2/5
Very disappointed in this. This was a Mercury Prize winning album........for what!? it was so poor.
Just ambled along without anything mildly interesting.
Her hit is decent, but one hit doesn't make an album.
Beth Orton
3/5
Totally forgettable
Miriam Makeba
3/5
Enjoyable without being wow. She has a beautiful tone and voice
Suede
4/5
A great sound and album. Close to 5 as it's so unique but just lacked more real wows
Kings of Leon
4/5
Thought about giving 5 as I enjoyed it when it came out and again now. But 5 would be just too high. It's a 4.5.
The Flying Burrito Brothers
3/5
It was grand. Better than average. More than boring. Just nothing overly interesting. Covers were the stand out

Sounds very dated now.

I liked the energy but it got a little samey after awhile.
Sepultura
1/5
The absolute worst of the worst. Horrible shit to have to listen to

Kings of Leon
5/5
This was a big album for me in my 20's. Listened and loved a lot since release so it works in every way
Tracy Chapman
4/5

The Youngbloods
3/5
A nice listen but didn't do anything for me
Queen Latifah
2/5
Very limited and samey
Megadeth
3/5
It had balls and some good riffs, that's being kind. I wouldn't ever seek this out to listen to. 3 is generous
Echo And The Bunnymen
4/5
A very Joy Division sound from them on this one. I really enjoyed. Think it could be a 5 star with more listens
Fred Neil
3/5
A nice folk listen. His Everybody's Talking just shows how a cover can sometimes be best. Fair play for writing it though
The Divine Comedy
3/5
I love his voice, it's unique. I like a lot of Divine Comedy as they're mostly fun. This was fun but just wasn't enough good tunes
Silver Jews
3/5
I liked the tunes, lyrics etc but his voice just grated me. It loses a star for his voice
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

3/5
Chilled out music but tame

Very surprised by this. It was very enjoyable. Some great tunes
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
4/5
Really enjoyed this. His sound is unique. It's a 4.5
John Grant
5/5
I love John Grant. I love this album. If it was 3 songs shorter (remove weaker songs), I think it would be the perfect album and my favourite album. I still love it regardless.
The Hives
3/5
It's fast paced and fun. An album I bought but I never realised it was technically a compilation. Loses a star for that

Thoroughly enjoyable listen
The Dandy Warhols
2/5
It was boring.

3/5
Another strange listen with Tom. Some glimmers of wow and then just madness
Billy Bragg
4/5
This project has given me a new found appreciation and fondness for Billy. This was very very enjoyable. 4 is probably low. It's 4.5 as he's great
Eminem
3/5
This was one I bought when released. What the fuck was 15 year old me thinking? Actually, I know. It's for teenagers. Only getting a 3 for nostalgia.
Kelela
3/5
Not sure why this is on the list. Didn't offer anything new or different. Total vanilla
The Mothers Of Invention
3/5
I was expecting something a bit more mental when I saw Frank Zappa involved but this was tame. Didn't do much for me
Gene Clark
4/5
4 might be overrating but this was a nice listen. Great voice and cadence
Destiny's Child
3/5
Started off very strongly but then just wanted in catchiness and quality
Peter Gabriel
3/5
3 might be unfair but I just get so bored by Gabriel and the synth/prog rock vibes. There are some strong songs on the album ruined by the boring shite
Earth, Wind & Fire
3/5
A nice listen. Nothing wowed me but glad it was upbeat at least
Weather Report
2/5
A strange listen. Felt like theme tunes bad 70s cop shows. Not for me

4/5
There's something about this that I'm intrigued by. Love the rawness. Think it would grow on me massively too
Nirvana
3/5
Overrated by a long way. Loses a star as it's live

Little Richard
4/5
Very enjoyable. Short and snappy. Was thinking of a 5 but just didn't enough wow
Pentangle
2/5
Motörhead
3/5
It was fine. Some of it's decent and would get you interested. More of it ends up being repetitive.
Soft Machine
1/5
Pointless Jazz fusion. Bored me to tears
Radiohead
2/5
Ya, another Radiohead that I worried about. This type of thing was always my worry. It's so fucking boring to listen to. And whiney.
The Beta Band
3/5
It just was. Nothing of note or massive interest. Background inoffensive music
The Kinks
4/5
A classic sound. Really enjoyed
Grizzly Bear
3/5
Started strongly and was quirky. But their hit was too familiar from adverts, kind of ruined it. The rest of the album tailed off
John Lennon
4/5
I was surprised that it wasn't better. 4 is about fair.
Marvin Gaye
3/5
It was not so subtle and became a parody. It was middle of the road
R.E.M.
4/5
Good but not great. It was consistent at least throughout
Run-D.M.C.
2/5
It's non threatening to the ear balls but not very interesting. Just so repetitive
Os Mutantes
4/5
A good sound. Very lively and fun
Dexys Midnight Runners
4/5
Really like his voice so I'm being generous with 4 star.
Digital Underground
2/5
This project has given me the freedom to honestly say that I've tried but rap/hip hop etc does absolutely nothing for me.
American Music Club
4/5
Something about the sound that I really liked.
Shivkumar Sharma
3/5
This is possibly the last album that I'll rate.....
It was fine. Feel like I've said it a lot so it shows that personal taste is what it's all about
