One great song, one good one and the rest just sort of blended together.
Hard to rate something this old and pre-rock with today’s ears. 2 really good songs, and another above-average one, great harmonies. Would probably lean to 2.5 if it was an option.
A couple of these were almost listenable.
Definitely not a 5 but a solid core of songs, almost dragged down to a 3 by the na-na song.
The textures in the music really make it a rich sounding album for something so folksy. The stories and harmonies add depth and make it pretty unique.
Chuck D’s voice is unstoppable.
This is definitely not a generic “live” album. The performances are great and the inmates makes themselves heard at all the right (wrong) lines.
I think this is the first time I have knowingly listened to any music by Zappa. Whatever I expected this wasn’t it. Enjoyed the musicianship and the mix of carefully arranged and improvised parts.
Loved the sounds, could’ve used some more variation.
There is a lot going on here.
Somehow I didn’t know these were all on one release.
I was on the fence about 4 stars or 5 until I got to Radio Radio.
The sound is amazingly clear.
The lyrics are pretty clever, and it took me a second listen to appreciate the music. I feel like I want to start speaking with a British accent or at least go watch a Ted Lasso episode.
I have never turned the volume down on Limelight. I still skip the weirder ones, but I like the rest of it too much go below 5.
The book compares this favorably to PE, and I hear the similarities - but not nearly as good musically, lyrically or in delivery.

The beginning of Night Train made me think of the Eddie Murphy impersonation from Raw.
test notes?
I wonder if this is the album that started the trend of the overdone vocal flourishes in pop music?
I wish I could watch a video of my face while listening to the entirety of the last song on this album.
If this was remade as an instrumental album I would give it another star.
There is no reason I needed to hear that album before I die.
As the Apple Music summary says, “there is no easy entry point”. Thankfully, it was pretty easy to find my exit.
Albums that seem to be made to reflect skill with cutting edge technology age about as well as a smart phone.
You can have your standards, I’m a cheap date.
Almost as bad as his first pitch for the Mets
