Album really showcases their breadth of sound. And for me, sympathy for the devil is one of their most conceptually creative songs.

The knock against the Stones has always been that they make great hits, but the albums often have fillers. In this album’s case, the only knock has been it didn’t have the hits. The lack of hits is only by Rolling Stones standards. I think Rocks off, Tumbling Dice, Happy, and All down the line, are certified bangers.
This is the most complete Stones album and, to me, the standard bearer, for a Rock & Roll album.

Probably a 5 star for me if it was trimmed to single disc. That’s true for most double discs. I can only think of a handful of double discs that hit the whole way through.

I didn’t dislike it, and I thought I might. Influenced some female artists I like.
Depeche Mode

Initially I thought to myself, ugh, this is the prototypical sound of the 80’s I hate. But to be fair, I never really gave this sound a through chance. By the third track I found myself appreciating the theatrical feel.
While I’d say I’m neutral, at best, on the sound, and lyrically lacking, the story arch of the sound, and the cohesiveness of the album really made this enjoyable for me.

Great album. Fantastic debut. But I think they’ve got a couple better albums. Similar to the recent stones album, I think they’ve got better, so it’s not perfect for me.

Having listened almost exclusively to rap from 1995-2010, I feel like I can grasp and analyze hip hop albums more than other genres. And this album is fantastic.
Unfortunately for me, this album was released in 2012, outside of the aforementioned hip hop listening window. So this was my first time hearing this album.
Clearly, it’s a coming of age story which is nothing new, but the way he weaves the overall narrative in a linear way through the voicemail messages, while weaving in songs that cover both past and present events/mind-state is fantastic.
The album tells a story as vivid, and evoking as much emotion, as any movie could.
It’s probably 4.5 for me right now, but I know at another point in my life it’s a 5, and probably with a few more listens it’s a 5. So I’ll give it a bump.

Pinnacle Dylan. Both lyrically and musically it’s his most diverse and complete. It’s chaotic, but controlled. It’s comedic and tragic. A concept album about emotion rather than a plot. And ties up so perfectly with Sad Eyed lady…
And Visions of Johanna is just incredible.

The last third of the album really struggles. Was during a time where everyone felt the need to make 20 track, 80 min hip hop albums. Cut to a normal length this is an outstanding album. For me the though, the high points are really really good.

This was the last album Kanye showed any self awareness. Battling the combination of his ego and the power that comes with fame, it clearly felt like he was on a tipping point. In retrospect, we know he lost that battle. Outstanding album. One the best produced albums I’ve ever heard.

Groundbreaking album. Solidified him as a superstar producer, but introduced the works to his unique flow and, somewhat ironically at this point, his down to earth lyrics that connected with young adults of all races and sexes. As a college dropout in 2004 this one resonated with me and is a bit of a time capsule piece for me.
